âEMERGENCY COMMISISONS.
So uh, hi guys! While I sold at a convention this past weekend and did pretty okay, most of that money went towards a few bills, paying for my table. Ect. Iâm actually still behind on some bills and wasnât able to pay for everything. I also wonât have enough for groceries tomorrow either.
I do have a queue right now, but starting next week I will be hunkering down on commissions. Most of my spare time will be working on commission work so activity may be slow.
I live as a single income home right now and my partner is having a hard time finding work, so sometimes things like this come up where we donât have enough money for stuff.
If I can maybe *somehow* get $100-$200 by tomorrow, I can pay for groceries to last us until next pay day. I am even slicing my prices in order to get more to my queue.
I do have merch that I sold at the con too ( prints, stickers, charms, buttons ). Lots of PokĂŠmon, some original stuff, metal gear solid, twisted wonderland and street fighter. If interested in any of that stuff please DM me and I will give you pricing + shipping.
â GRAPHIC PRICING.
Promos ( 2, 3, or 4 panels ) - $15.00-$30.00 ( depending on gif or not and complexity ) FLAT FEE OF $15 T
Post Splitters - $5.00
Dash Icon - $5.00
Icon Borders - $5.00
Icon Borders + Icons - $5.00 for the border, 0.50 0.25 cents per icon ( i will put a psd and the icons in the border for you. )
Banners (Headcanons, pinned, ect) - $10 $5 for 5 banners.
Header - $10.00 $5.00
Full Package ( everything above as a deal ) - $60 $40( only includes 30-50 icons depending on resources )
âART COMMISSIONS.
These are much slower then graphics due to my mental health. I have a lot of examples so if interested in this I can DM you examples and my pricing listâI just canât fit all examples here and I donât have a proper sheet.
If this isnât possible Iâd appreciate sharing this regardless. Iâm desperate and it sucks. While I donât expect handouts, I will leave my PayPal here for those who want to help but donât want to actually purchase anything: [email protected]

"PENCIL GIVES CLUE IN APARTMENT THEFT," Toronto Star. January 4, 1934. Page 3. --- Harry G. Chant Convicted of Stealing $70 From Girl's Trunk ---- Alleging that she had been robbed of $70 in bills which were taken from her trunk, Ethel Brown, a maid in a St. Leonard's Ave. flat, appeared as a witness against Harry G. Chant, 45, occupant of an upper flat in the same house.
Mrs. Brown swore that she left $173 in her trunk, which had no lock, and that when she looked for it only $103 remained.
A pencil, which accused admitted was his, was found in a tray of the trunk, complainant testified, and she swore that prior to the theft she had never seen the pencil.
It was brought out in evidence that Chant offered to repay the $70, but he explained this as a desire to preserve the goodwill in the house.
"A very suspicious move," commented Mr. Malone. "It certainly puts you in an unfavorable light."
Registering a conviction, Magistrate Jones remanded accused until Jan. 12 for sentence and advised a medical examination in the meantime.
One prisoner was sentenced to the repeaters' penalty of $50 or one month in early court to-day and two were assessed $10 or ten days. Joseph Riordan was the unlucky one, he having been convicted only last November for the same offence.
"He doesn't seem to change," commented his worship, when Edward Halchead pleaded guilty to drunkenness, and admitted that he was given a chance several months ago.
Stanley Treyzoloski was a little dubious when asked if he had been up before, but the bench was not.
"Oh, yes," he said, "$10 or ten days."
William Patterson, youthful vagrant from Winnipeg, who it was stated was given an opportunity to return to his home but failed to take it, will serve the next 30 days in jail unless he produces $10.
"He is living in 'flop-houses' and had 60 cents in his pockets when arrested," an officer testified.
George Graham was anxious for a sentence.
"I'm asking for week to-day." he told the court, and the bench obliged. "Ten dollars or ten days" was the verdict. John Gillespie, also accused of vagrancy, was assessed $10 or 30 days.
Hit-Run Driver Fined "This young man stole a bicycle from Queen St. and rode it out to his uncle's place in North Toronto," Detective Robert Semple testified when Wilfred Cronkwright appeared on a theft charge.
"There are too many bicycle thefts, and it is a good time at the start of the year to hand out a warning." observed Crown Attorney Malone.
His worship decided the youth had been warned and granted a remand for sentence.
Accused of criminal negligence following an accident in which his car struck Jacob Kleinman at the corner of Spadina and College Sts., Charles Jackson to-day pleaded guilty.
Detective O'Driscoll testified that Jackson's car struck the injured man as he moved across the road while the lights changed.
Jackson failed to stop, and in a statement attributed this to "nervousness."
"The serious side of it is the hit-and-run driving." Mr. Malone stated, and his worship added, "I can have no sympathy with hit-and-run drivers."
Fifty dollars or one month on the neglect to return charge, and one month on the criminal negligence charge which will be dated back to the time of the arrest one month ago, was the penalty imposed, in addition to cancellation of the driver's permit for six months.
Sheldon Young, found guilty of attempted wounding, was placed on probation for one month, after the bench had learned that he had been in jail for 19 days.
Young was convicted of attacking 17-year-old Lloyd Bradley, a young friend, when the youth declined to accompany him to a theatre.
"The doctors seem to think that if you leave liquor alone you would not have these crazy spells," Magistrate Jones said, addressing the prisoner.
Tossed Bottles For tossing bottles in a brawl on Christmas Eve and thereby injured Basil Ebinoff, James Cairns will pay $50 or serve 30 days.
"Christmas Eve is not the time to get drunk." said Magistrate Jones.
"You can't throw bottles around and injure people," Cairns claimed that he was attempting to leave complainant's premises "where they were fighting" and said his beverage had been several bottles of pop.
Rivalry between independent taxi drivers soliciting fares near the Union station flared into open warfare on December 23rd, it was brought out in court to-day when Thomas Carter was charged with doing malicious damage to an auto owned by Harry Hoffman.
Crowding for positions in line was responsible for the quarrel and complainant accused Carter of deliberately ramming his taxi. Magistrate Jones ruled a conviction would be registered and remanded Carter for sentence with a warning.
Took Turns at Being Sick Frank Bartolar, John Parigan, John Sciabar and Rudolph Brogobich, all officials of the Toronto branch of the Grand Carnolian and Slovenian Catholic Union, pleaded guilty to a breach of the Iusurance Act, by receiving premiums from members of the fraternity, in return for the privilege of sick benefits, an arrangement which Crown Attorney [W. O. Gibson pointed out is strictly forbidden by the act.
John Grudeff, defence counsel, in explaining the procedure, stated that the officials were not knowingly breaking the law, and that in any event the system was to be discontinued.
"This is a very respectable and well-known society in the United States," he said. "Due to the fact that some of the members took turns at 'being sick and drawing the $2 per day sick benefits, the organization does not wish to carry on this business in Canada any longer."
With the consent of the crown, his worship assessed Brogobich a $50 fine and remanded the three members of the group for sentence.

Dream? Story: 3
Warning: Attempted suicide, child labor?, mentions of dog dying, Sad story with a very happy ending
So I was an orphan living in a meat factory with like 30 other orphans. We lived on a platform near the roof of the factory.
It was filled with pillows and fluffy stuff. My dog Wera was also there. We were annoying to the owner cuz she was really mean. We got paid 0,03 cents for 2 hours.
One day we discussed and agreed on stealing that old abandoned car of theirs and getting out of there.
After 4 hours of driving we arrived in an old mansion farm. But got caught and we had to go back. Then skip a few days later. We were being much more annoying to her.
But when I came back to rest from work, my dog was gone. I bumped into the owner lady and she said that she turned Wera into meat. I didn't believe her at all. She has a dog and would never do such thing... Right?
Skip few weeks. We found out that the mansion is actually our property. The old orphanage. Totally abandoned by the government.
So we saved up as much money as we could and stopped working for her. We packed everything and drove to the mansion. After two days of repairing and cleaning up. I came back for the rest of the my stuff and my friends stuff.
After packing that into the car, I demanded to see my dog. When she said she wont show her to me, I started choking her which she then allowed me to see her. She led me to one of the freezers and opened a box and said that is her.
I freaked out crying and screaming so hard her husband came out from a sound proof room. They were joking behind me when I pulled out a knife and drew it to my neck. They stopped me seconds before I could do anything. The wife ran upstairs and brought my dog back but I already blacked out.
Next time I woke up, I was in a hospital with my dog next to me. Turns out I had a heart attack.
After the nurses were done, my friends all ran into the room. They were angry but we didnt want to see their faces ever again. So we left the bitchy owners alone.
They had to pay fines for emotional abuse and my hospital bills since I was like related to them. Super far cousin somthn like that. And they were the only 'family' i had left.
Then we all came back to the farm and lived happily. I got into a poly relationship with one girl, one non-binary and one dude. And Wera had a dog friend. <33
This story was um.. certainly something.
Luckily it had a happy ending but the overwhelming sadness and rage I felt in that moment that I thought my dog was dead, were not fun.
I mean I got so overwhelmed that in my dream, I decided to literally wake myself up by killing myself but then I felt sudden calmness and blacked out inside of a damn dream.
Jesus Christ man.
But I'm not surprised that I got so overwhelmed. Since I have anger issues and every time I get angry it just hits me like a tsunami.
This is the first dream that I got angry in. Sometimes I feel happy or sad but I tend to be very neutral in my dreams. This was definitely a big change.

In the words of Rodney Dangerfield, probably: "I can't get no respect, and if I continue to encounter this level of disrespect, I'm gonna expose myself to high levels of radiation so I fucking die."
My first job was delivering newspapers. I was 11. I got tips rather frequently, which was great for a child with a burgeoning, Yu-Gi-Oh habit. The rules were to put the newspapers in between the storm door, get the papers delivered by 5 PM and be courteous.
I'd received a list of the customers that I'd be delivering to, which totaled about 80. My route was actually 3 combined routes, which was a lot for an 11 year old that has had punctuality and service absolutely branded into their brain.
My first complaint was a lady that was not on my list of customers who called my home multiple times because she hadn't received papers for a week. She yelled at me multiple times, including in person, until it finally sank in after the 15th time I informed her that she wasn't on my list. After it was corrected, I never spoke to her again, but I received $50 tips each Christmas.
My second, and thankfully final, complaint was from the wife of a family friend. She did not like me when I was 14 and I'm sure she'd hate me now. She very specifically told me that she wanted the newspaper rolled up in a rubber band and placed on the ledge next to the front door. I did this every day for about 6 months until the company I received papers from was actually out of rubber bands for a couple weeks, so I placed the paper neatly in the door for a couple days and they told me to do what they'd originally requested. I explained I didn't have rubber bands and i didn't know when they'd be back. They didn't care. I compromised and folded the paper neatly and placed it on the ledge. After a few days of that, the family friend, a 45 year old man, was watering his plants when I brought the paper up and handed it to him. Upon which the 45 year old man screamed at his 14 year old newspaper carrier, "ARE YOU GODDAMN STUPID?! HOW HARD IS IT TO FOLLOW SIMPLE FUCKING DIRECTIONS?!" From that day forward, I never stopped placing it, banded, on their ledge, out of fear of being screamed at again. (Sidenote: Paper carriers were required to purchase their $20 bags of rubber bands. I made, after taxes, about $80 a week.)
After the paper route, I worked at a gas station for about 6 years. Day 3 of the job, an old man handed me a $50 bill for candy and I had trouble using the register to determine his change. He went to his car, brought in a handful of change and counted it on the counter in front of me, looking at me with every coin he counted. As he collected the change he smiled and said, "See? It's not that hard, is it?" I then refused to ever use the register's calculator again and did all the math in my head. Never missed a cent in 6 years.
Every once in a while we had a dentist and a drunk construction worker who would come in and condescend to me and scream at me for his tall boys for not being cold enough, respectively.
My first job out of college was a dying factory that I only took because it was full time. The HR person told me that she was hesitant to hire me because I had a degree. I drove 35 mins to this job every morning at 4:30 AM, would often get home at 5 PM, and was never paid a cent of overtime. Eventually, I was hired at a much nicer factory for a $5/hr pay bump that was 2 miles from my house. I turned in my 2 weeks and the HR person sneered at me, "Well, I've learned my lesson in hiring college kids."
After 3 additional jobs between the better factory and my current career, I had mostly positive interactions and only left those jobs to pursue better pay and better prospects as to my field of study. I've now been out of college for 10 years and am comfortable in my job. Occasionally, you have to deal with a difficult customer, but it isn't too bad.
This morning, I received an email after reaching out to a customer yesterday, in which he lambasted me for having the gall for contacting him, because he is a busy surgeon. All I originally asked was if he'd be available a certain day and if he wasn't, when could he meet.
I broke it down into simpler terms, condescendingly apologizing to him for offending his sensibilities by having the gall to use language that I've used, verbatim, to communicate with hundreds of customers over almost a decade on the job.
Haven't heard back yet.
The point of this trauma dump is that I briefly touched on negative experiences in 4 jobs that I've worked. The situations I described took place over an accumulated, maybe, 30 days in the 22 years that I've been working. 30 days is about 0.4% of the 22 years that I've worked. I didn't even mention the fact that those 4 jobs were only half of the 8 jobs that I held in that time, and yet I'm focusing on this insane minority.
Your words mean so much more than you ever realize, for better or worse. If you can't pay respect to those that serve you, it points out a far larger cavity in your soul than your ego and prestige can ever fill. Never underestimate the fact that a single "fuck you," in traffic might consume a person's entire day. Watch your mouth and consider the fact that you are not the main character in this story.
Thank you for listening, though I'm not sure why you would.

TGIWednesday: A penny saved, is a penny earned
TGIWednesday News
Our topic of focus this month is all about money, luck of the Irish âď¸ and financially benefiting you! I found today's topic interesting because lately I've seen changes in the savings side of money. I've gotten odd offers through the mail and emails (they're legit) that tout savings and when you find bargains and save money it gathers up more financial energy for you! My girlfriend got a high end vacuum cleaner at an outlet store for $50.00 and it's on Amazon for $150 plus shipping. We got a bill the other day from our file storage provider in the cloud arena. Normally $25 or so and it's been as high as hundreds and it was 87 cents this month! đŽ Never justify or put down your blessings and welcome that which is unusual and bountiful and FUN! đđ°Â I see you finding savings and benefits untold as you read or hear this now!Â

The BBC is expected to investigate whether enforcement of the licence fee discriminates against women, after figures showed that more than three quarters of those convicted of evasion were female.
The corporation has agreed to carry out and publish a âgender disparity reviewâ after a single mother from Essex who faced prosecution for failing to pay her TV licence threatened a judicial review of the system on the basis of sex discrimination. Women made up 76 per cent of the 52,376 people convicted in 2020 for TV licence evasion.
The mother, 32, who does not want to be named, said: âI felt that they target people who are helpless, such as single mums, and that this needed to be challenged. I did this to stop other women being targeted unfairly, and so that they can see if there is discrimination.â
Last year, after a public consultation, the government shelved plans to decriminalise non-payment of the fee but said that this would remain âunder active considerationâ. Last month it confirmed that the fee would be frozen at ÂŁ159 for two years. Nadine Dorries, the culture secretary, has told The Times: âI am deeply concerned that so many women are being disproportionately saddled with the stress and anxiety of facing criminal charges for non-payment of the licence fee.â
Licence fee evasion was the most common offence for which women were convicted in 2019, Ministry of Justice data shows. It accounted for 30 per cent of all female convictions in England and Wales, and 4 per cent of male convictions. The main reason, according to the ministry, is that women are more likely to be home and therefore open the door when an inspector calls.
The woman in Essex contacted Appeal, a charity that opposes miscarriages of justice, which argued that it was not in the public interest to charge her for the offence. TV Licensing agreed and withdrew the charges. However, she felt that the system was unfair, and so the Public Law Project told the BBC of its plan to pursue a judicial review.
âCriminalising people for debt is Dickensian [and] regressive,â Tara Casey, a womenâs justice caseworker at Appeal, said. âAll the women we have assisted in their criminal cases against TV Licensing have been vulnerable: some are single mothers, some have medical problems.â
Officials from TV Licensing, which the BBC outsources to the company Capita, visited the woman at her home in Essex during the November 2020 lockdown. The woman, born in Rwanda, came to the UK in 2015 and had just moved into a home on her own for the first time with her daughter, then aged ten months. She admitted that she was not yet on top of her household bills so signed up for PayPoint, which allows people to pay for the TV Licence in cash or on a debit card, in shops such as newsagents and supermarkets.
However, as she wanted to minimise trips out during the pandemic to protect her health, she tried to switch to a direct debit and believed an email from TV Licensing confirmed this. Last February she realised that the payments had not been made and got in touch with TV Licensing. The day before TV Licensing received the first payment, her case was authorised for prosecution and she was charged with non-payment in March. When she called TV Licensingâs helpline, staff insisted that she had to attend court. âI was so scared. I felt completely helpless,â she said. âI was a single mum, in the pandemic, living by myself with a baby . . . I made tiny mistakes but I tried to correct them and I co-operated from the beginning. I feel like I wasnât treated with respect, either because I was a woman or because I didnât speak good enough English.â
The BBC, which published a previous gender disparity report in 2017, said that it had considered her legal claim unfounded but agreed to conduct an internal review. She has now dropped plans to push for a judicial review.
TV Licensing said: âThe 2017 report found the disparity was due largely to societal factors but we took steps to counter any disparity where possible by introducing better monitoring, increased levels of transparency over the prosecution policy and more engagement with womenâs organisations.â
The inequality between the sexes when it comes to licence fee evasion convictions is a further motivation for those who say that the offence should not be criminal (Jonathan Ames writes).
The subject came to prominence a year ago, when ministers gave their views after a public consultation on decriminalisation. The consultation had attracted responses from about 42,700 individuals, more than 80 organisations and another 111,700 from a joint contribution from the campaign groups 38 Degrees, We Own It and the Taxpayersâ Alliance. Individual responses were split 19,200 to 17,600 against decriminalisation.
In recent years there has been considerable concern that the law unfairly affects women and the poor. The Centre for Criminal Appeals, a justice charity, has pointed out that in 2019 evasion made up 30 per cent of all prosecutions against women, compared with 4 per cent against men. That year Naima Sakande, an advocate at the charity, said that âthe burden of a struggling BBC in the age of many competing television streaming services must not be borne by women and vulnerable members of societyâ.
In January last year the government kicked the topic of decriminalisation down the road and said that it wanted to assess several factors. They included âwhether an alternative, non-criminal enforcement scheme is fairer and more proportionateâ as well as its cost. The government said that it would also assess the potential overall impact of decriminalisation on licence fee collection.

La Fayette in Prison - Part 2 - Magdeburg
After Wesel, off we go to Magdeburg. Here La Fayette and his fellow prisoners stayed from January 4, 1793 until January 4, 1794.  Just like Wesel, Magdeburg was and still is a prominent city in modern-day Germany (back then in Prussia). And just like Wesel, Magdeburg lies near a river, the Elbe to be precise. And again, the prison laid inside the cityâs fortress. Large parts of the fortress are still intact and are the sites of numerous activities throughout the years, such as re-enactments, historic festivals, historic guided tour ... visitors are also free to request an individual guided tour, unrelated to any other activity. La Fayette is once more named as a noteworthy inmate by the Homepage of the organisation charged with taking care of the fortress. But he was far from the most prominent inmate â Germans at least will recognise the names of Fritz Reuter and Werner von Siemens (the guy who founded the company âSiemensâ). Whoever created the Homepage either did not do their research or disliked La Fayette. It is stated that La Fayette attempted an coup dâĂŠtat that failed and that he initiated the Champ the Mars massacre ... both statements are grossly oversimplified at best and utter nonsense at worst. During La Fayetteâs stay Ludwig Karl von Kalkstein (then a Lieutenant-General) was the Governor of the prison and Otto Kasimir von Meerschneidt (then a Major-General) was its Commander.
La Fayette and is fellow Frenchmen were brought to Magdeburg by means of an open cart. What was in all likelihood intended to degrade them further, was actually a blessing for the prisoners. They now had fresh air and the open, blue sky in abundance, something that had been denied to them all those months prior. Something else happened as well. People recognized these august men and apparently also cheered for them. Where the Prussian and Austrian authorities had a keen dislike for La Fayette, the population was in large parts in favour of him (more on that in a bit). Though he may have been touched by the cheering, such outpours of affection did not help La Fayette endear himself to his jailers â not at all. Nevertheless, conditions at Magdeburg were better ... far from good, but better.
La Fayette was allowed to obtain some books. Among other things he read mostly about agriculture and this knowledge would later come in handy when he ventured into the farming business after his return to France in 1799. He was furthermore allowed to write and receive letter ... but there was a twist. You see, when a letter for La Fayette arrived, the authorities in Magdeburg would open it, read it and decide if La Fayette was allowed to receive this letter. If so, they would go into his cell and read the letter aloud to him exactly once. If he was allowed to reply, his letters were checked and if there was something in them that did not please his jailors, well, the letter then moved directly into the bin. Lovely!
Nevertheless, things were looking up for La Fayette and he started writing letters to the full extent of his possibilities. Although he ached to let his wife Adrienne know that he was more or less okay, he did nor dare to write her. She was still imprisoned in France and La Fayette feared that somebody there might recognise his handwriting and subsequently destroy the letter. Instead he tried to reach his English and American friends (both in America and as envoys in Europe).
La Fayette described his cell in a letter to an unknown friend in England:
âImagine an opening made under the rampart of the citadel, and surrounded with a strong, high palisade; through this, after opening four doors, each armed with chains, bars, and padlocks, they come, not without some difficulty and noise, to my cell, three paces wide five and a half long. The wall is mouldy on the side towards the ditch, and the front one admits light, but not sunshine, through a little grated window. Add to this two sentinels, -- whose eyes penetrate into this lower region, but who are kept outside the palisade, lest they should speak other watchers not belonging to the guard, and all the walls ramparts, ditches, guards, within and without the citadel of Magdeburg, and you will think that the foreign powers neglect nothing to keep us within their dominions. The noisy opening of the four doors is repeated every morning to admit my servant; at dinner, that I may eat in presence of the commandant of the citadel and of the guard; and at night, to take my servant to his prison. After having shut upon me all the doors, the commandant carries off the keys to the room where, since our arrival, the king has ordered him to sleep. I have books, the white leaves of which are taken out, but no news, no newspapers no communications, -- neither pen, ink, paper, nor pencil. It is a wonder that I possess this sheet, and I am writing with a toothpick. My health fails daily (âŚ).â
(I am a bit irked by the fact, that I can neither associated an recipient nor an exact date with the letter. The letter otherwise seems authentic and the content is similar to other letters by La Fayette that we have more information on â that being said, I gave the letter a pass although its provenance is not what I would like it to be.)
I have seen some people argue that La Fayette mostly managed to keep his spirits up, because he did not complained an awful lot in his letters â but when assessing such a statement, you have to keep in mind that La Fayette really could not complain a lot in his letters, otherwise they would never be posted. It is true though, that there were small betterments. I already mentioned the letters and books, but he and the other prisoners were also allowed to take regular walks in the yard of the prison. They walked separated from each other and were heavily guarded. But La Fayette fell ill again, this time with a fever. His illness was not as serious though as it had been at Wesel.
La Fayette also received some money from his friends in America. Some of his friends, such like Washington, privately send money for La Fayette to use. Thomas Jefferson, then Secretary of State, found a way for the Government to pay La Fayette some money. He argued that La Fayette had offered to serve in the Continental Army without pay but that there was no official document of the Continental Congress accepting this offer. It follows that the Treasury owned La Fayette six years of pay and furthermore ten years worth of interests since they had âforgottenâ to pay him the money since the end of the war ten years prior. Jefferson wrote a letter to Washington on December 30, 1793:
âSoon after his captivity and imprisonment, and before the ministers had received our instructions to endeavor to obtain his liberation, they were apprised that his personal restraint, and the peculiar situation of his fortune disabled him from drawing resources from that, and would leave him liable to suffer for subsistence, and the common necessaries of life. After a consultation by letter, therefore, between our ministers at Paris, London, and the Hague, they concurred in opinion that they ought not in such a case to wait for instructions from hence, but that his necessities should be provided for until they could receive such instructions. Different sums have been therefore either placed at his disposal, or answered on his draughts, amounting, as far as we hitherto know to about twelve or thirteen hundred Guineas. This has been taken from a fund not applicable by law to this purpose nor able to spare it: and the question is whether, and how it is to be made good? To do this, nothing more is requisite than that the United States should not avail themselves of the Liberalities of M. de la Fayette, yielded at a moment when neither he nor we could foresee the time when they would become his only resource for subsistence. It appears by a statement from the war office, hereto annexed, that his pay and commutation as a major General in the service of the United States to the 3rd of nov. 1783 amounted to 24,100 dollrs thirteen Cents exclusive of ten years interest elapsed since that time, to the payment of which the following obstacle has occurred. at the foot of the original engagement by Mr Deane, a copy of which is hereto annexed, that a certain roll of officers there named, and of which M. de la Fayette was one, should be taken into the american service in the grades there specified, M. de la Fayette alone has subjoined for himself a declaration that he would serve without any particular allowance or pension. It may be doubted whether the words in the original French do strictly include the general allowance of pay and commutation. and if they do, there is no evidence of any act of acceptance by Congress. Yet, under all the circumstances of the case, it is thought that the legislature alone is competent to decide it. If they decline availing the United States of the declaration of M. de la Fayette, it leaves a fund which not only covers the advances which have been made, but will enable you take measures for his future relief. It does it too, in a way which can give offence to nobody, since none have a right to complain of the payment of a debt, that being a moral duty, from which we cannot be discharged by any relation in which the creditor may be placed as to them.â
Washington forwarded the letter to the Congress and on March 27, 1794 Congress passed a bill to pay La Fayette the money he had not accepted as a General during the Revolutionary War. To nobodyâs surprise, neither Congress nor President Washington had any objections and the bill was approved swiftly.
Prisons in the 18th century (as well as today) often development into some sort of parallel society. Money and especially bribery could get you far in prison and La Fayette experienced that first hand. On November 18, 1809 La Fayette enclosed an account of his financial situation in a letter to Thomas Jefferson. It seems as if this lengthy report had been written by one of La Fayetteâs secretaries. Here is a short excerpt of the English translation of the report:
âThe expenses caused by his captivity were enormous; the prisoners had to pay their own way as long as their money lasted, and as General Lafayette was the only one with some money, he had to take responsibility for his fellow prisoners. But this was a small matter in comparison with all that his European friends did financially to save his life, to correspond with him, and to facilitate his escape. Some of them made great personal sacrifices, and the sums generously sent by the American government were swallowed up. General Lafayetteâs family provided for its own expenses while living in Olmutz. So that on arriving at Hamburg after an imprisonment of five years he found nothing of what had been intended for him and only an increased debt to Mr. Gouverneur Morris up to the time when he was paid 68000.âś; to Mr. Parish former United States consul, forty three thousand Livres; to Mr. Bollman a contract reduced to 30000.âśâ
(You see, a great deal of the financial troubles and transactions came after his stay in Magdeburg but since everything started in Magdeburg, I thought it convenient to discuss the monetary issue here in full.)
We see the United States taking actions to the best of their abilities and we see also more letters discussing La Fayetteâs fate. News travelled slowly in the 18th century and it took the three months that La Fayette stayed in Wesel for the world to find out that he even had been arrested. But after the knowledge was out there, we see an increase in letters and also in newspaper coverage. So much so that Adrienne could read in the French newspapers that La Fayette was presently alive and in Magdeburg. We can further observe that people all other he world started petitioning the Prussian King for La Fayetteâs relief. His friends, English Members of Parliament (although it would take a couple more years before the House of Commons would discuss the topic in full), Washington and his friends in America, Americas envoys in Europe, the list goes on. Some of La Fayetteâs fellow prisoners, mostly unassuming secretaries and aids, had been released almost immediately and were now also trying to secure La Fayetteâs freedom â some even returned to France to do so. We also see Prussians citizen petition their King. Most of these petitions were simple letters, but some petitioners had the money to spare and printed their petitions as pamphlets â many of them can today be found online.
Although the instructions for the guard were not less strict then they had been in Wesel, the guards in Magdeburg appeared to love to gossip. During his stay La Fayette was kept more or less up to date on the newest developments in France and the war. Eight months into his stay in Magdeburg he was also given some news about his wife Adrienne. La Fayette wrote Charles Pinckney in London on July 4, 1793:
My dear Sir,
Whilst on this anniversary my American fellow citizens are having their joy, I join in a solitary bumper with the happy remembrances, the patriotic wishes which are crowding upon us (...) Owning to your kind interference, my dear Sir, the crowned gaolers have consented after eight months to let me know that my wife and children were alive â be pleased to acquaint them that my health is tolerably good (...).
(Can we please acknowledge the fact that La Fayette took the time out of his day and remembered that it was the anniversary of American Independence?)
There is another letter that I want to give the spotlight. La Fayette wrote on March 15, 1793 to his friend, the Princess dâHĂŠnin. In this letter he wrote that:
âI know not what disposition has been made of my plantation at Cayenne; but I hope Madame de Lafayette will take care that the negroes, who cultivated it, shall preserve their liberty.â
La Fayette had bought a plantation in the French colony of Cayenne and implemented a system of gradual emancipation. The plantation was later sold by French authorities and the people there re-enslaved. Although his endeavour ultimately failed I found it interesting to see that La Fayette, even during such a dark hour, thought about others as well.
Before we move on to the next prison, this time in Neisse, on last titbit. The Baron von Steuben, the absolutely legendary legend, was born in Magdeburg and as a man of military background probably spend some time in the fortress as well.

Aussie Currency Guide [Part 2 - Notes]
Have an aussie character, or sending your character downunder for a fic? Are you coming for a holiday and our weird monopoly money and coins are confusing?
If you want some currency continuity, then here's a little info on our money system. It's pretty self-explanatory, but the bills have been changed recently to include a new design, but the amounts are similar.
------------
Notes
The notes are $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.
Our currency has changed recently, but you may see old notes in circulation that are still valid currency, so I'll include a picture of both sets.
Above are the OLD notes, they are all double-sided with different figures and images.
Please be aware some vending machines and ticket machines have trouble with bent, damged or new notes. The new notes have a clear strip in the middle and machines that have not been updated go, "?????????" at you and spit it out.
(If you need an action for a character to do while having a late-night wanted-a-snack-from-the-vending-machine conversation with a friend or other person, yelling at the machine due to frustration over emotions, etc. Some, not all, also have new card charge functions).
Of the notes, $5, $10 & $20 notes are used day to day. You get out a $50 if you know its a big event, eg going to the cinema or the local markets, etc. You do not often have a $10 note on you, that's like super fancy birthday or 'let's put this in your savings account' type stuff. I mean, if there's a rich person out there that carries $100s around daily then like... hey, what's the security at your house look like? No reason...
Most ATMs will dispense in $20 or $50 notes only, so you need to think on what you are after. A lot of chain stores have an abundance of smaller notes and coins because of this, but it's still a bit painful to have someone try to buy a $2 item with a $50 just to 'break it up'.
------------
5 dollar note
The old note , lot of details. If you want to look into it, they're fascinating, and there's usually little details you miss unless you're really looking.
The New Note (above) copped a lot of flack from the public who disliked the change.
A lot of things are '$4.99' which straight up means $5, people. Anything with '0.99c' on it, means that you are paying one cent more, and because we don't have 1 cent coins anymore, the retailer builds up additional funding. Etc.
1 x 5 = $5, 2 x $5 = $10, 4 x $5 = $20, 10 x $5 = $50, 20 x $5 = $100, etc.
------------------
10 dollar note
[Old Note above]
New $10 note, with a transparent section (as previously mentioned, this can cause issues with automated machines like ticket dispensers, vending machines, change machines, etc. There's usually a human around you can check with, and most are happy to exchange an 'old note' for you, or vend the ticket directly.
Lots of items for $10 or less, often in larger retail stores like Big W and cheap stores like the reject shop, silly solly's, choice, price busters, crazy clarks, etc. Lots of little meals and things at food stores like Woolies, Coles, IGA, ALDI, etc.
Very easy to understand, in terms of use. 1 x 10 = $10, 2 x $10 = $20, 5 x $10 = $50, 10 x $10 = $100, etc.
-------------
20 dollar note
[Old note]
New note (above), again easy to understand.
Most meals at fast food restaurants or general small meals at a cafe will be around $20 (just under or just over). At restaurants, cheap meals are 18 - 30 dollars, depending on what you order.
Easy to understand - $20, 2 x $20 = $40, 3 x $20 = $60, 5 x $20 = $100, etc.
-----------
50 dollar note
[Old note above]
[New Note above]
Self-explanatory, 1 x $50 = $50, 2 x $50 = $100, 5 x $50 = $250, 10 x $50 = $500.
Not super unusual to have in your purse, especially if you went to the ATM or bank, but not an everyday thing. Plus bigger purchases are more often than not completed by card.

100 dollar note
[Old note above] Have only seen one of these up close on one occasion.
oI mean it looks interesting?
Not many would wander around with this amount of cash in the bag, and I don't think most ATMs give out a 100? As far as I know you have to go to the bank directly to withdraw a $100?
Easy enough to understand, 1 = $100, 5 = $500, 10 = $1000
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please let me know if you have any questions about currency, r what have you.
The Aussie dollar is generally lesser when it come to currency exchange. Like, when buying something from america, it can be 1.5 - 2 x more than the aussie amount. i.e. In american it says $10, but to pay in Aussie dollarydoos, it's between $15 and $20 dollars in practice. And in GBP, it's like 3 x the amount in aussie.
If you want to see what it will be for you, your characters or a family member's trip, there are currency converters online that keep up to date on the daily changes in exchange rates. (eg. today 70 american cents is equal to 1 aussie dollar, but tomorrow, 1 dollar = 1 dollar, and the next day 50 cents = 1 dolar).
Money is a messy factor, but it's worth looking into if you're planning a trip, so you don't get confused or scammed.
If you feel something might be a tad overpriced but you're not sure, feel free to check in. A lot of touristy type shops overcharge, and half of it is the thrill of being at place X, but you don't want to pay $80 bucks for something worth $30, and all.

I hope you're doing well! I know you posted about a stressful situation last month, and I hope it's resolved itself. Sending good wishes you you and Hamlet!
Thank you so very much for checking in on me! I really do appreciate it. An update to that post under the cut.
Carol, who moved in with me on May 28, is still here. Right now, we have set a tentative move-out goal of the first or second week of August, but this is pending an apartment application that she hopes to finalize on Monday and a job situation that is a complete mess.
Basically, according to my limited understanding, Carol is licensed to teach in Florida. Alabama has a reciprocity clause with Florida, but it must be applied for. Carol has recently begun this process, but her teaching license(s?) is (are?) set to expire in December unless she passes certain exams. Sheâs already passed one for...general middle and high school teaching, I think, but failed a math exam. She has an art history exam Monday afternoon and expects to pass. I hope so, because sheâs been doing nothing but watching Netflix and shopping for houses for the last few days in her new 2017 Jeep Cherokee.
I remain unspeakably grateful to my parents for teaching me financial literacy, because until I witnessed Carolâs decision-making, I had no idea how hard it was for some people to not spend money unwisely.Â
As a reminder, Carol is dead broke. She has $153,000 in debt across student loans, medical bills, Czech and US taxes, and some personal loans she would like to repay to friends for helping her. She is unemployed and has no support from her family and has relied on couch surfing at friendsâ and acquaintancesâ homes since last summer for housing. Since moving in with me, she has been trying to find somewhere to live that would accept her with all her debt and her nonexistent US employment history for the last ten years. Based on what sheâs said, I think she has about $9k in the bank--or did, until last week.
In short, she needs a car, a job, and a home, and as far as I can tell she doesnât care which order they come in.
Two weeks ago, she was offered a position in a rural town about 30 minutes from where I live. Itâs a small, very country town which desperately needs a special education teacher, something I think Carol really does have a passion for. However, because she hasnât finished the reciprocity licensure application yet, theyâre having a lot of roadblocks with her paperwork, compounded by the fact that when she left Prague last year, she left all her important documentation behind: things like her birth certificate, her social security card, and her letters of recommendation, which for some reason she did not have electronic backups of. The principal has been trying to get what she needs from Carol for two weeks. Carol is constantly saying that things are âin processâ but has nothing to show for it.
As far as we can tell, the job is still hers, but the school year starts August 13th and she still hasnât been approved by the Board of Education because the paperwork is still not finished on her end. She did not attempt to replace her birth certificate or social security card until they needed it for the application. (Her friend in Prague--and I am beginning to realize she uses the word âfriendâ for anyone sheâs met longer than sixty seconds), who frantically packed up all her belongings when she realized she would not be able to go back to the city, cannot ship her belongings or go through them for the important paperwork until next summer, as she and her husband are currently vacationing in Rome for a year.
Carol decided last night she is also going to apply for some online Department of Defense position--I didnât understand the details and donât really want to know, except that itâs also teaching and some administration. Weâll see how it works out. She is growing increasingly annoyed at the principalâs requests for paperwork completion, which baffles me.
So, job: shrug? Maybe?
Car next, then, but this whole mess also goes back to the financial literacy thing. My parents have always been extremely frugal (pennywise, as my dad would say), and from childhood they made it very clear to us to not buy things you couldnât afford. Theyâve never had a car payment in my memory, and they paid off their house about ten years ago. This means they drove a lot of junkers for a very long time, and for a very long time we had very few vacations, but now theyâre fully financially stable and debt-free and my mom has a car that she drove off the lot brand new that they paid cash in hand for.Â
If I had been in Carolâs situation, I would have found a cheap, mostly reliable used car that probably wasnât going to explode on me and drive that as long as I could while saving up for housing. I did in fact drive her to look at several used cars, most of which would have been even outside my expected budget (hers, as it happens, is larger even than that, because one of her overseas friends was willing to contribute $5000 to the cost of a vehicle). (I paid $6500 for my current car, a 2004, in college in 2012 with 70,000 miles on it at the time, and have driven it ever since.)
She rejected all of them because they did not have good âenergyâ and âfeelings.â One she was willing to buy at $3700, but told the seller to go pay for his own inspection (once I explained to her what mechanical inspections were as a concept), so they ghosted her. She also is extremely afraid of head gasket failure--I donât know why, since she knows nothing about cars--and has assumed all vehicles she has driven are on the verge of it, so after the first week she refused to even look at a vehicle without a warranty.
This means she exclusively limited herself to used dealership options, which Iâm just going to come right out and say was monumentally stupid. I donât know if any car dealers follow me, so Iâm sorry if I am misperceiving this, but in my experience almost every dealer Iâve gone to has been aggressive, manipulative, and extremely predatory in their interest rates. I cannot think of a riskier course of action in abject debt than to try to cut a deal with a car dealer for the sake of a warranty I doubt will cover that much truly expensive failure in the long run anyway.
On Thursday, Carol bought a $20,000 2017 Jeep Cherokee from a dealership down the road. I donât know what she put down. I do know she did not use her friendâs money (why not??) and I know her interest rate on the car loan is 4%, which she is extremely proud of and which horrifies me. She also âpersuadedâ them into a limited warranty that will cover the vehicle up to 100,000 miles (currently at 42k, and they ~only offer it for cars under 40,000 miles~). I canât tell you how bad an idea I think all this is.
Thursday night, as she was regaling me with stories of her negotiating prowess, she also tells me she has decided to buy a house. Sheâs sick of renting, and somehow, someone somewhere managed to get her approved for up to $120,000 in a home loan. She already has $150k in debt, another $20k from the car, and now wants to buy a house. She was delighted that she could make the minimum 7% down payment, even though it would wipe out every cent she has left and leave her less than $500 to her name for moving expenses, utilities, food, title registration, etc. afterwards.
She doesnât even have a secure job yet.
However, this plan seems to have fallen through. She went out with a realtor several times this weekend and came home the last time in great, heaving sobs, because she canât find the 3bed 2bath she wanted in her price range. (For reference, most homes in this area go between 200k - 250k right now for 2-3bed 2ba, and the closer you get to the city--I have about a 20 minute commute--the higher it gets. My next door neighbor sold her 3bed 2.5ba for >300k three months ago, and Carol knew this.) She was absolutely devastated that the only things in her range were âtiny little ugly flipped housesâ and âthe ghetto.â The realtor basically said she wasnât going to waste any more of her time. Carol repeatedly told me how grateful I should be that I got in at the price point I did a few years back, because no ânormal peopleâ could ever afford to break into the market again.
I tried to tell her that it was because I lived in with a roommate in very cheap housing and then a cell of a 1bed 1ba apartment for eight years while I saved money, but if nothing else, Iâve learned Iâm not allowed to compare our situations or histories or offer advice of any kind except âgo ahead and buy what you want,â because that only makes her cry harder. In the end, she has decided to give up on the house for now and settle for the absolute last thing in the world she wanted, an apartment with a lease.
To be honest, until she has a signed contract in hand, I half-expect this lease to fall through as well. I have tried to offer what I think is sensible advice and been ignored or rebuffed. I have tried to offer a sympathetic ear and ended up with her sobbing uncontrollably on me--heaving, body-wracking sobs--over and over again with me trapped in my own home, providing endless emotional support for a girl I donât even like. I have tried to encourage her to do the things she wants to do, since sheâs going to do them anyway, and when she gets ânegative energyâ after the purchases (buyerâs remorse, I think, that one little inkling of sense saying maybe it wasnât a great idea to buy a $20,000 car or an $1100 brand new iPhone without a job), she blames it on the exact thing I said I thought might be good and makes me feel like I have now directly contributed to a negative outcome after poor decision-making.
For the record, when she says these things to me she is not saying, and has never said, them directly at me. She has never blamed me in any way for a negative outcome. She is not consciously trying to manipulate me or abuse me or take advantage of my help. She has never once asked me for money or job connections or for me to use any of my stability to unfairly or unethically get her something she needs. She is just completely absorbed in her own (rightfully absorbing) mess of a situation, and I think just completely unaware of how much of an emotional black hole she has become. There are no problems except her problems. There are no needs except her needs, and everyone around her has to understand how hard she has it at all times.Â
So, weâll see. I am praying that the apartment works out next week. The owner seems to want to work with her, which is a hopeful sign. Good thoughts would be appreciated.
--
Aside from all of this, work has gotten extremely complicated. Iâm not going to go into all of it now, but one of my jobs is to create an extremely detailed schedule for students in clinic. This is used to schedule patients in each service--if we have this many students, we can have this many patient slots per half-day, etc. Last week, two students were out unexpectedly, one who broke her arm the day before she was supposed to begin, and one who had a terrible anxiety attack and thought the symptoms were actually COVID. That student was tested and cleared negative, but Student Health requires a two-week quarantine anyway, so she was not allowed to return.
This meant that we now had multiple patients per day with no one to see them. We tried to reschedule as many as we could, but we still ended up with multiple overbooks. This is extremely stressful for me as both a provider, an instructor, and a human being who hates having other people wait on her in a professional capacity. We got through the week, but not without several painful bumps, and itâs looking like there will be more soon.
I also woke up to an email this morning that one of my favorite students (yes, I have favorites, Iâm sorry), had a completely unexpected death in the immediate family and had to rush home. This is a very, very sweet, very smart girl who has worked unbelievably hard over the past year to do well in this program and in my courses, and I am just devastated for her. One of her friends is willing to cover her clinic, so the impact will be minimal on that side, but to have this happen during this countryâs hellhole handling of this pandemic...I canât even imagine it.
All of this isnât even touching COVID. The Presidentâs side has won in that sense--I donât even register the numbers anymore--but as of last week our dean sent out messaging that implied that with our stateâs failure to contain the spread, new discussions were going to be happening soon regarding our August start. We already had committed to full hybrid scheduling: all lectures online, in-person labs only where absolutely necessary to continue advancement in the program, and those labs limited to two per room with full PPE, but if they decide even that canât happen, I donât know what the fuck Iâm going to do. I cannot make competent doctors over Zoom. I canât. At some point they have to touch other people and look at other peopleâs eyes. They have to be able to check real, in-person blood pressure. They have to look at genuine eye movements and ocular surfaces in person and I cannot and will not let them enter clinic until they have the practice and the time and the practicals behind them. I fucking refuse to endanger the public for sixty years because someone in an office somewhere decided a timetable is more important than a patient keeping their ability to see, and Iâm ready to fight administration on this if they try to push it.
But if I win the fight, what next? They just...donât enter clinic next year. They donât enter my program. I donât know what they do in the meantime, as this lab meets four mornings a week and the lecture twice. The course is delayed until next year or whenever we have the virus under control again, and suddenly my fall semester sure looks like Iâll be being paid to stay at home and count carpet fibers. I donât think theyâll fire me--no one else wants to teach my course anyway--but if I win this fight I might put myself right into furlough in the process.
I could be borrowing trouble, I know. They could come back and say that after review, our system and safety protocols (all extremely conservative) are indeed safe enough and we can proceed as we want. They could say that our limited in-person option for lectures (we have several gigantic lecture halls that could easily socially distance) is the only thing that needs to go. They could say that we just need to have smaller lab groups--hellish on me, but doable.
But itâs one more element of stress in my life that I just canât handle worrying about right now, which is why Iâve been bouncing back and forth between random fics and oneshots (that mermaid one was feverishly written on a single evening Carol spent at her momâs house) and pouring an ungodly amount of hours into Animal Crossing. At least there I have some control over what happens next.
Sorry, guys. I know this is not the happy update I was hoping for. Iâll try to check in again next month and weâll see where things end up.

This is what making more money can do for you:
Help you to save money and pay off your debt.
Pay your bills at the end of the month.
Help you stop living paycheck to paycheck.
Allow you to reach financial freedom.
It can even help you to leave a job you hate.
Plus, you could retire sooner if you want to. But remember: If you want to reach your goal of making $100 or more a day online (or offline), simply combine a number of these money-making ideas.
Whether youâre between jobs, a stay-at-home parent or just want to make some extra money without leaving the house, these work-from-home jobs and tasks can boost your income, helping you make ends meet, pay down debt or reach savings goals. Legitimate work-from-home jobs do exist but beware of scams that require you to pay upfront for the chance to earn extra money. Instead, check out these ways you can easily make extra money from home.
Letâs dive into it: here are the best ways to make money in 2021. No matter what your skills are, you can find something thatâs right up your alley.
1. Sell Stock Photographs If you have a knack for capturing the perfect shot, you could turn those pictures into extra money. Sites like Shutterstock, Fotolia and Adobe Stock enable users to upload images and get paid when people purchase them. Youâll receive a fraction of the sales price â and a good picture can earn you thousands of dollars if itâs downloaded a lot. You must have the exclusive rights to the photos, and you must include signed releases for any recognizable people or private property in the images. 2. Use the Right Account for Your Money You shouldnât settle for any old checking account when youâre looking for somewhere to keep your money. Instead, you should find one that pays you back. PenFedâs Access America Checking account does just that thanks to its annual percentage yield of 0.20% or 0.40%1 â depending on the daily balance â with a monthly direct deposit of $500 or more. By using an account that pays a higher APY, your money will grow more quickly while it sits until you need it. And if youâre able to avoid monthly fees, thereâs no reason not to take advantage of a perk like this. 1APY (annual percentage yield) is accurate as of Sept. 18, 2020, and is subject to change at any time. Federally insured by NCUA. 3. Pet Sit If you love animals, getting paid to watch other peopleâs pets is a dream job. Sites like Rover connect pet sitters with pet owners. Youâll need to set up a profile explaining why youâd be a great pet sitter, but once youâre approved, you can set your own rates and hours. You could earn up to $1,000 per month, according to Rover. 4. Transcribe Audio Clips If you can type quickly and accurately, you can earn money by transcribing audio clips in your free time and turn it into a sweet side hustle. Companies like TranscribeMe! pay about $20 per hour, and top earners can earn $2,200 a month from these work-from-home jobs. If you have a specialized background like medical or legal training, you can earn higher rates. 5. Sell Unused Stuff If youâre looking for quick cash, consider selling items around your house, including your CDs, DVDs, games or books on the site Decluttr. Just enter the barcode, and Decluttr will tell you how much itâll pay you for it. 6. Take Paid Surveys Online Various online websites will pay you for sharing your opinions on a range of topics. For example, e-Rewards is open to anyone older than 13. Youâll earn e-Rewards currency for each survey you complete, which you can redeem for gift cards. Other options include GlobalTestMarket and Harris Poll Online. The amount you make depends on how many paid surveys youâre eligible for and how quickly you complete them. 7. Become a Remote Sales Agent If you have a smooth voice and like talking to customers, sign up as a sales agent. Youâll take calls like you would in a physical call center, but some sales agent positions are remote jobs. For example, you can sign up with the company LiveOps to take calls for 30-minute blocks. First, you must apply, be accepted and complete a company training course, which takes about two weeks. Depending on the job, you could be paid an average of 25 cents per minute and/or commission and receive incentives for selling certain products. 8. Make an Online Business Out of Creating Online Courses If you have specialized knowledge, use it to create an online course. If you partner with a site like Udemy, you can set your price â between $20 and $200 per course â and keep a portion of the earnings based on whether you drive the traffic to the site or Udemyâs advertising attracts the students. 9. Surf the Internet There are dozens of ways to win money online. For example, companies want to know what youâre doing online, so they pay data aggregators like Nielsen to collect that information. To do this, Nielsen incentivizes people to share details about their computer and mobile phone usage by installing an app. You can earn rewards for each mobile device, plus sweepstakes entries. Nielsen gives away $10,000 each month to its Computer and Mobile Panel participants. 10. Serve as
an E-Juror You can make extra cash by serving as a mock juror so attorneys can practice their arguments and judge the value of their cases. Sites like eJury recruit U.S. citizens over 18 who havenât been convicted of a felony. You canât be an attorney, paralegal or legal assistant â or closely related to an attorney or employed by a law firm. Expect to make between $5 and $10 for each verdict. 11. Rent Out Your Car Renting out your car is one of the many ways you can make money off of tourists in your city. When youâre sitting at home, youâre not using your car, so consider making money from home by renting it to someone else. Companies like Getaround enable you to offer your car to someone who wants to rent it when youâre not using it. Getaround offers car owners top-rated insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance â so youâre fully protected. Active car owners can earn about $10,000 per year, according to Getaround. Smart Money Moves: 35 Useless Expenses You Need To Slash From Your Budget Now 12. Get Cash Back When You Shop Sign up with Ebates to get cash back when you shop online. Ebates has negotiated deals with more than 2,500 companies. Each time you click through the Ebates site to partner sites, the company pays a referral fee to Ebates, and Ebates shares it with you. You can also earn $25 for each friend you refer to Ebates. 13. Become an English Proficiency Test Grader To test for English proficiency, foreign students take tests that include writing paragraphs, which need to be scored. Companies like EditFast need people to grade the tests, and you can earn between $18 and $25 per hour. You must be a native or native-like English speaker, have a four-year college degree, pass proficiency exams and complete the training. Then, after making this extra money, you can grow it even more by putting it in a checking account like the one from PenFed. With an APY that can pay up to 10 times1 more than the average checking account, it can do more for your money. If youâre looking for an easy way to improve your financial situation, donât overlook something as simple as your checking account. 1Sourced directly from: www.fdic.gov/regulations/resources/rates as of Sept. 18, 2020. 14. Host Dinner for Guests If you like to cook â and others like to eat your food â you could make money by hosting dinners at your home. Companies like Eatwith coordinate guests for your dinner parties. You must apply and host a demo event so the company can verify your culinary and hosting abilities. If youâre accepted, youâll be on your way to making up to $1,100 per dinner. 15. Recycle for Cash Recycling helps the Earth by reducing pollution, but it can also put some cash in your pocket. Some states implement a bottle deposit you can get back when you turn in the used bottles at a collection center. For example, in California, you can earn 5 cents for most glass and aluminum cans and 10 cents for 24-ounce or larger bottles. 16. Watch Promotional Videos Some companies put together videos they want consumers to watch â and sites like InboxDollars find and reward consumers willing to do it. Youâll earn a little cash for each video you watch. If there arenât any videos available to watch, InboxDollars also pays members to take surveys and online shop. 17. Turn Your Home Into a Bed and Breakfast If you donât mind sharing your home with people, you can sign up to rent it to vacationers. On sites like Airbnb, you can list your space, set your rate and wait for guests to sign up. You have the flexibility to rent when you want and close up shop when you want your house to yourself. 18. Share Your Spending History Companies want to know what youâre spending money on. Snap pictures of your receipts, and upload them to the ReceiptPal app to earn entries into sweepstakes and points you can redeem for gift cards. 19. Test Websites If you like surfing the internet, consider becoming a website tester for UserTesting. Companies that are launching new sites will pay you to provide feedback about them and perform tasks to make sure theyâre
functioning properly. You can expect to make $10 for each website you review. 20. Sell Coupons Online If you have any coupons around you know you wonât use, someone else might be willing to pay for them. For example, if someone is planning to buy a new laptop, a 10-percent-off coupon could save them a substantial amount, which might motivate them to pay you a portion of what theyâd save to get the coupon. EBay does have some restrictions on coupon sales, however. You can never sell coupons for free items, and you can sell only 25 coupons â or up to $100 worth â each month. 21. Trade Cryptocurrencies Cryptocurrencies are currencies electronically created and controlled in a decentralized manner instead of by a government. Types of cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin and Litecoin. Trading cryptocurrencies can be lucrative â Bitcoin went up considerably between January 2017 and December 2017. Trading cryptocurrencies has its risks. If the price plummets â as Bitcoinâs price has in the past â you could lose your investment. 22. Create Slogans for Companies Companies love catchy slogans because they help sell products. If you have a knack for coming up with creative sayings, enter slogan contests. At Slogan Slingers, companies offer a reward of between $200 and $999 for slogans. If a company selects your slogan as the winner, you keep the prize, minus a small administration fee. 23. Lend Money to People If you have extra money, you can earn an average of 4% to 6% per year in profit by investing in peer-to-peer lending. Sites like LendingClub allow you to invest in small portions of loans â as little as $25 per loan â to other people. If the borrower defaults, however, you lose your investment. You must make a minimum opening deposit of $1,000 and meet the suitability requirements set by your state. For many states, that means you must have an annual income of at least $70,000 or a net worth of at least $250,000. 24. Tutor Students Online If you have a knack for explaining difficult subjects and helping students get better grades, consider tutoring online. You can find your own students and set your own rates to create an online business, or you can sign up to tutor with an existing company like Tutor.com. Tutor.com requires you to be at least a college sophomore, and you must be a subject matter expert in the areas you want to tutor. You must work at least five hours per week at Tutor.com. The site does not list the pay for tutors on its website, but with Chegg you can make $20 or more per hour of tutoring. 25. Host Direct-Sales Parties Direct sales companies like Mary Kay pay representatives to host parties and sell their products. You host events and invite friends, family and neighbors over to see and buy a companyâs products â and you keep a portion of the sales. If you work for a single-level, direct-sales company, you can expect to earn an average commission of 20% to 25% of what you sell. 26. Rent Out Office Space in Your Home If you have home office space you donât need to use, it could be worth money to someone who wants an office outside of their home but doesnât want the associated cost or inflexibility of a traditional office space lease. You can set your own prices and decide when and for how long you want to rent your space. 27. Provide Tech Support Online If you get excited about fixing computer problems, sign up to get rewarded for being tech-savvy. Through companies like Upwork, you can complete lucrative freelance gigs online to earn cash and rewards by helping people fix their technology products. 28. Search the Web With Bing Switching your search engine is an easy way to make money from home. Microsoft, for example, will reward you for using Bing to search the internet. You earn points for activities like searches, which you can redeem for movies, games and gift cards. 29. Become a Virtual Fitness Instructor If you like helping people get in shape but donât like traveling to the gym or other peopleâs homes, consider marketing yourself as a virtual fitness instructor. You might need to get
certifications to gain credibility with clients so you can oversee their workouts via webcam or other technology. Alternatively, you can have short, online meetings with clients and provide them with workouts to do on their own. Either way, you can work from home. 30. Sell Your Hair If your friends tell you they wish they had your hair, you might have a source of income growing right on your head. Sites like HairSellon provide an easy way to make money from home: You can list your hair for sale, and the site even has a calculator to help you set a reasonable price depending on its length, thickness and color. 31. Be a Virtual Assistant People will pay you to assist them with a range of tasks from canceling cable to scheduling appointments. âVirtual business assistance is an opportunity with so much variety and need that many people are able to find a place here,â said Angie Nelson of The Work At Home Wife. âIn-demand skills can run the gamut from customer service and email management to optimizing eBay listings and setting up email funnels.â At Fancy Hands, the pay ranges from $3 to $7 per task â the faster you complete tasks, the higher your earning potential. 32. Sign Up for Credit Cards Credit card companies want to get their cards in your hands, and they often offer substantial bonuses to sign up. Many sign-up bonuses for credit cards are in excess of $1,000 â but you might have to spend a certain amount in a short period of time to qualify. Check that the cardâs annual fee doesnât offset the sign-up bonus. 33. Perform Tasks on Amazonâs Mechanical Turk Website Amazon has created a huge marketplace for tasks that require human intelligence for completion: Amazon Mechanical Turk. Businesses post tasks and how much the pay is for completing them. Tasks include identifying pictures or videos, transcribing audio recordings and conducting research. Adjust Your Homeâs Temperature You can increase your bottom line by reducing your heating and cooling costs. Write a Book Thanks to the advent of online publishing, you donât need to have a connection with a big publishing house to deliver your story to the public. In fact, you can publish an e-book digitally through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. You can set your own price and earn up to 70% of it in royalty payments. 38. Pay Your Car Insurance in Full Instead of relying on monthly payments, save up to $120 a year by paying your annual car insurance premium in full, according to Lifehacker. Leverage how long youâve been a customer and how you pay on time to increase your chances of success. 42. Use an App To Find Price Rebates Many stores have price guarantees, but itâs a hassle to track them all down and potentially even more of a hassle to file the paperwork. Now, you can get price rebates from the comfort of your own home. For example, sign up for Paribus via email, and the service will track the rebates youâre owed by scanning the receipts sent to your email address. It will seek out the lower price and request a rebate on your behalf if you qualify. 43. Review Computer Software Nobody wants to buy software only to find out it doesnât work well. To help people avoid that disaster, you can write software reviews and get paid for them. SoftwareJudge will pay you up to $50 per review. 44. Watch TV You can make money from home watching TV: Download the Viggle app and earn one point for every minute you watch shows on subscription services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, plus bonuses for certain shows. You can redeem points for cash or gift cards. Although it might not be the most profitable activity, if youâre going to watch TV anyway, you might as well get rewarded with this easy way to make money from home. 45. To help find lurking expenses, consider an app like Trim, which shows your recurring costs and can even cancel subscriptions for you. 48. Share Your Knowledge If you have specialized knowledge, you can monetize it by signing up as an expert to help others online. For example, JustAnswer will pay you to share your expertise. You must apply for each category you feel youâre qualified to provide answers for, and you need to have a degree or certification in that area. The amount you earn depends on how in-demand your area of expertise is. 49. Bet On Your Ability To Get In Shape Did you know you can get paid to sweat? Part 1
Word count: 3.9k
Just a single responseâa single response that could make everything better.
Or could make matters worse.
It had not been long since his girlfriend repliedâfive hours outmost. But five hours felt like a day to him. Getting used to quick replies, itâs making him crazy as to why he wasnât getting any response even after sending her messages and giving her calls.
Sheâs mad.
He couldnât help but think, and itâs making him weak. He doesnât like anyone getting mad at him, especially if it was her.
Pleâ
He stopped typing. He shouldnât bother her, sheâs at work. He shouldnât annoy her. She must be annoyed. He wasnât at workâit was his rest day, leaving him alone with his thoughts and his phone. Nothing worse than thatâoverthinking.
He dug his face on to his phone, praying to the gods to make a miracle for him.
He waited, and he waited. Still got no response.
Maybe staring at the screen would make a difference. He stared at every icon he could see, scrolled from side to side.
Why am I lying to myself?
Nearly 30, he was, but he could be still naĂŻve at times. He was a high school dropout with divorced parents.
What divorce? They have no money for such things, his parents only lived separately, and things were too confusing for him. He ran away from his home at the age of 17, and started to find ways he could live on his own. Things never worked out for him, still broke at the age of twenty-nine. Heâs renting a small, cheap apartment, and he had a third-hand car that needed constant maintenance. He worked at a convenience store near where he was staying, only a 15 to 20-minute walk.
Byun Baekhyun considered himself as a good-for-nothing, and was only working to survive. The only thing that was making him somewhat happy was his girlfriendâs affection. Now, the person giving what he wanted was mad at him.
He took a deep, hopeless breath as he dropped his head down to his table from where he was sitting. At the brink of losing hope, his heart jumped when his forehead felt the vibration of the table coming from his phone.
He didnât check from who it was, and immediately clicked the notification and read the message.
Disappointed, he was, when the text message was from his carrier, reminding him that his phone billâs due was approaching.
This girl, now this. His grip to his phone loosen, feeling weakâhe could hear his heart beating. He felt like he was losing his mind.
A picture of his wallet flashed through his head, remembering exactly how much money he still had before his next pay. $43.05.
His phone bill usually cost $45.
He didnât want to double check his wallet, it was too heartbreaking for him. He recently spent most of his money buying his girlfriend a nice dinner and a new phoneâa phone she didnât like thatâs why theyâre in a fight. She wanted an iPhone. He couldnât afford such phone. He himself was sticking to his 3-year-old phone. As long as he could send his girlfriend a message, he was fine with any phone.
He pressed his eyes closed, thinking what should he do to pay his dues and to make his girl happy. His feet couldnât stop tappingâhe couldnât think of a solution.
âMoney canât buy happiness?â he muttered to himself. âBullshit.â
He stood up from his chair, threw his phone to the sofa just to release some stressâeven a tiny bit. He needed a break.
He started walking circles in his small place, thinking of different things how to earn enough money to, at least, pay the bills.
Baekhyun never turned his head so fast when he saw his phone screen flashed from his peripheral view, hearing the vibration from the sofa. His feet dragged him fast towards the sofa and his hand grabbed the phone.
Disappointed again, it was from his friend, Park Chanyeol.
Im coming 2 ur place.
Baekhyun felt so pissed. He was hoping it was from someone betterâhis girlfriend. âI donât need you to come,â he muttered to his phone.
Subsequently, a rapid knuckle impatiently knocked on Baekhyunâs door. It paused for a quick while, then started knocking again.
Baekhyun already knew who it was. He stomped his way to the door to stop the noise.
The grin on Chanyeolâs face faded, cocking his brow after he saw Baekhyun. âWhatâs with the face?â He made his way into Baekhyunâs place without permission and went straight to Baekhyunâs living room.
Baekhyun followed Chanyeol with a glare as he closed the door. âWhat are you doing here?â
What a stupid questionâBaekhyun realized immediately. Chanyeol only visited Baekhyun for one thing, and one thing onlyâsniff drugs.
âIâm telling you, bro. You should break up with Yuri. Sheâs just using you,â Chanyeol said as he was pulling out his cheap snuff set from his jacket, placing it on the glass coffee table afterwards.
Chanyeol already knew what was bothering his friend, especially when Baekhyun made a face like what he was wearing. Nothing else bothered Baekhyun but women. Sometimes, Chanyeol knew Baekhyun doesnât know how to straighten his priorities just for the sake of a woman.
But Baekhyun doesnât like anyone minding his own business, so Chanyeol only watched him be stupid.
Baekhyun ignored him, and changed the topic. âHey, when are you going to take home your shot. Itâs taking a lot of space on my fridge.â He only had a mini fridge, it could only fit a few drinks and few foods.
âFor as long as I donât need it,â Chanyeol blatantly replied. âI donât want my mom seeing that, sheâll start asking questions.â
âYeah, yeah, yeah. You already said that.â
Chanyeol still lived with his parents since he spent a lot of his money on the things he liked to snort.
Baekhyun pulled a chair on the dining table, and watched his friend do his thing.
Chanyeol carefully released a portion of his powered drug from a tiny airless balloon on Baekhyunâs table. Chanyeol pulled his wallet out and took a card to collect the scattered powder on the table and made a thin line with it. He licked the remaining powder that was on his card. Then, took his already-rolled-up bill from his kit. His nose made a loud noise as he snorted the powder. He twitched both sides of his nose and sniffed again, just to make sure his brain received that well. His eyes slightly became watery from the mild burning sensation that went through his nose. He cleaned the white dust excess on the table with his finger and brushed his gums with itâevery bit counted.
Chanyeol sighed, satisfied, as he rested his head on the sofa.
âWhat was that?â Baekhyun asked.
âHeroin.â
Baekhyun was still a traditional man. Drugs never interest Baekhyun. Heâs tried a pot, but it was never for him. Heâs seen people around him done it, and he didnât like what it did to them. Besides, these substances cost too much.
âBy the way,â Chanyeol lifted his head up and pointed at Baekhyun, âI told boss youâre gonna take my shift tonight.â
Chanyeol also worked at the same convenience store, thatâs where they met each other.
Baekhyun reacted, âWhat?â
âYeah, Iâm sorry. I didnât tell you. I have some business tonight.â Chanyeol winked mischievouslyâobviously planning something sketchy.
Baekhyun thought heâd have his rest day for himself.
Then, Baekhyun remembered his bills and his girlfriend.
Maybe he needed that shift.
âBreaking news: Kang Sunmi filed a divorce. The fifteen year old allegedlyââ
Snapping fingers diverted Baekhyunâs attention from the television back to his manager who was in front of him. The manager pointed his pen to Baekhyun and said, âThat news will stay for a while, customers donât.â
Baekhyun nodded lazily.
It was past 3AM. He was on his second cup of coffee but he still felt drowsy, his eyes wanted to close itself. Heâs not used to night shifts unlike Chanyeol, who could do any shift at any time of the day. Baekhyun still had an 11AM shift after his shift at 4AM. Heâll have less time for sleep, but a little more money for him. He needed every cent.
Less than an hour left.
There weren't many people at the store, so he was pissed off at his boss for being such an uptight motherfucker.
He couldnât wait for his shift to end, he missed his bed. But he missed his girlfriend, Yuri, a lot more. She was still ignoring Baekhyunâs call and messages, making him miserable. He didnât know how to make her notice him again.
Iâll pay her a visit after my shift. Iâll be there before breakfast, before she leaves for work. Sheâll be surprised, see my effort and sincerity, he thought.
The idea washed away his sleepiness in a snap. He got excited to see Yuriâs face again. Baekhyun hoped she would forgive him and give him a kiss or hug.
His brain cells started to work actively, thinking of what things he should say.
How should I apologize?
Thinking of what he should do.
Should I text her first or knock straight away at her door?
Should I buy her a chocolate?
No, maybe hotcakes. She loves hotcakes.
He was alone with his thoughts, distracted by the challenges of love.
The bell on the top of the door rang when somebody pushed it open.
It woke Baekhyun up from his thoughts, his instinct greeted the customer who got in. âGood evening.â He, then, realized it was already early in the morning. He corrected himself, âMorning, sir.â
They were trained to greet anyone who came in the store.
Baekhyun watched the tall man take big steps as the man walked in, not even turning his head to Baekhyunâs direction. The tall man vanished from Baekhyunâs sight as he passed by the tall shelves.
Baekhyun had seen different types of people enter the store when he took night shifts on some occasions. There were people in pajamas buying food for breakfast, or maybe for their late night snack. Guards, drivers, and night shift employees buying coffee. Normal looking families who were on a trip buying snacks. Bunch of drunk teenagers wearing cropped tops and/or bomber jackets who came from a party buying cigarettes, or water for their friend who kept throwing up. People of any age wearing tacky clothes who were obviously on drugsâhe could tell it from their teethâbuying lighters. Some people looked dangerous, he dared not to judge the things they buy, but they were usually alcohol and cigarettes. And, some men buy condoms.
But Baekhyun had never seen a person walk wearing sunglasses. Who wears sunglasses late at night?
What was also striking was the man was wearing an obviously expensive black coat. It was beautiful how vivid the color was; it was the blackest of the black he had ever seen. If the man came from a party, it must be a fancy one, might be a ball, or a fancy wedding of a multi-millionaire. Baekhyun thought the man was lost. The man should have asked his butler or driver to buy things for him.
A pair of heels started to echo his earsâit got louder as it got closer.
Of course, he has matching Italian shoes.
Even the most decent shoes donât make a sharp sound like that.
Baekhyun turned his head to the manâs direction as the man got closer to the counter.
The man stopped in front of Baekhyun, still holding on to his items. He slightly lifted his head and scanned his eyes around the top shelves that were behind Baekhyun.
Baekhyun noticed the man was wearing a high-end brand of sunglasses. The way the light reflected on the black frame and on the black lenses, it was something else. His skin glowed as the light met his face, showing his healthy and almost poreless skin.
âDo you have anything besides Jack Daniels?â the man started to speak.
Baekhyun turned around and scanned the shelves himself. He knew the man was looking for something hard. âWe have Johnnie Walker. Red, black, and double black.â
He rarely drank such expensive alcohol, but he enjoyed the scotch he recommended when he tasted it.
The man scoffed. âIâd take the bourbon.â
Baekhyun nodded and stretched his arm to reach the box of Jack Daniels.
The man placed his item on the counter. Baekhyun scanned the box, and the cotton balls that the man placed.
âIs that all?â
The man looked down at the front of the counter, turned his head from left to right, searching for something. He finally reached for something that caught his interest. He lightly threw the item on the counter
âThatâd be all,â he said as he revealed a part of his side body under his coat, reaching his back pocket for his wallet.
â$27.14,â said Baekhyun after scanning the box of condomsâthe ultra-thin one.
The man took another item in front of the counter the moment it caught his attention.
Baekhyun scanned a small bottle of lubricant. â$38.54â
The man initially took a hundred-dollar bill out from his wallet but he put it back. He extended his arm, slightly revealing a shiny silver watch under his sleeve, and gave three 20s instead.
The man looked at Baekhyun and said, âKeep the change.â
Baekhyun's eyes slightly widened, his lips curved upward. He couldnât be happier, he needed every cent of money he could get.
It must be his lucky day.
âThank you, sir!â
The man cocked both of his brows as a response while he put the smaller items inside his coat and carried the bourbon by the hand. Then, Baekhyun watched the man leave the store.
Baekhyun couldnât stop grinning as he put the change on his wallet after he cashed in the payment.
âThat was a nice watch,â he muttered to himself. It was like love at first sight when he saw the manâs watch. It was still at the back of his head.
Baekhyun looked at the storeâs watch.
Ten minutes left before 4:00.
He started to fix his things at the staff room. Removed his tacky uniform under his white shirt, and wore a cozy jacket. He bid his goodbyes to his co-worker and manager and left the store at 4:05AM.
Cold wind blew on his face, making him shiver. He dug both of his hands on the pocket of his jacket, and started to walk across the almost empty parking lot.
He couldnât spot a single person around. Few vehicles, yes. It was still early. The area of the city heâs in wasnât exactly the busiest.
Baekhyun put a smile on his face. âIâm gonna buy hotcakes. Iâm gonna see Yuri.â He felt excited. He tried to paint the look on Yuriâs face when she saw him at the front of her doors.
âWeâre gonna have breakfââ
A long honk of a car distracted Baekhyun from walking. He turned his head where he heard the noise, but he couldnât see anythingâit was too dark, and the parking lot was too huge.
He turned around, checking if other people were around. But he was alone.
It was still honking, it wouldnât stop. There was panic in Baekhyunâs eyes, his heart started to pound hard, he was nervous. Other parked cars seemed peaceful. His eyes searched everywhere, but he seriously couldnât see anything. He started to walk hesitantly where the loud beep was coming from, he was unsure.
Silence.
Baekhyunâs ears rang and felt deaf after the vehicle stopped honking. But he was still worried. His feet wouldnât move, his mind went blank, his ears still ringing.
Then, a tiny, orange light suddenly emerged from his sight from where he was walking to. The light was from inside a car. He could see tiny silhouettes in it.
He started to walk forward, but still hesitant. He turned his head from left to right to check if there were other people besides him. He was still alone.
The light got closer and closer as he walked nearer.
âHEELP!â
A loud screech of a woman alarmed Baekhyun, putting him to a stop.
âHEEELP!â
Baekhyun ran as fast as he could to the light, to the womanâs voice who cried for help. He saw the woman looking in his direction. Baekhyun was having a hard time to breathe because of the cold wind blowing against him, but he ran faster after he saw an unconscious man next to the woman.
Baekhyun panted heavily when he finally reached the vehicle. Him and the woman looked at one another with panic in their eyes.
âHELP!â The woman cried while she was shaking the man on his shoulders.
Baekhyun shifted his look to the manâit was the man who tipped him earlier. He was unconscious.
Baekhyun opened the door. âWhat happened?!â
The woman was in a state of panic, she didnât know what to say. She was only worried for the man.
âHave you called 911?â
The woman blinked. âAre you fucking crazy?!â
Baekhyun looked around the vehicle. He saw a spoon, an elastic band, a syringe, a dust of power, and cotton balls. Baekhyun suddenly noticed the man had his sleeve rolled up.
âHe fucking ODâed?!â He concluded after he saw the things around them. The man got overdosed by some drug.
The woman didnât know what to say. Her eyes were shakingâshe was unsure if she should trust the man.
âYou must call 911, or heâll die!â exclaimed Baekhyun.
âNo, no, no. Please donât call them!â the woman begged.
Baekhyun knew if they called 911, they'd go to jail after he regained his consciousness because they were doing illegal drugs.
âFuck,â Baekhyun cursed, he knew the woman wonât change her mindâhe had met a lot of people on drugs, so, he somewhat understood. He removed his jacket, dropped both his bag and jacket on the concrete.
He stepped up to their high SUV and searched for the recliner lever of the manâs seat. But he couldnât find it. âWhereâs it?! How do you recline this fucking seat?!â Baekhyun yelled at the woman.
The woman jumped in panic, âFuck.â She pulled something behind the seat of the man she was with to recline the seat.
Baekhyun lent his face to the manâs face to feel and listen if he was breathing. He wasnât. âFuck.â
âDonât fucking die on me, Sehun,â the woman begged, pulling her hair. Her eyes began to tear up.
Baekhyun held the manâs face upward. Heâs going to perform CPR.
He had his face close to the man, then the woman spoke. âWhat the fuck are you doing?!â
âDo you want him to fucking die?!â
Baekhyun exhaled all the air from his lungs and passed it to the man. He pumped his chest with both of his hands intertwined.
No response.
Baekhyun performed another around. He gave air, pumped the manâs chest.
Still, no response.
Baekhyun performed another, and another, and another round.
âFucking shit. Donât die on us, man.â He kept pumping his chest, sweat was breaking on his forehead despite the chilly climate.
The man wasnât breathing.
Then, Baekhyun remembered his friend, Chanyeol. He remembered that he had Chanyeolâs adrenaline shot in his fridge.
âFuck.â
Baekhyun carried the man on his shoulders and transferred him to the back of the car.
âWhat are you doing?!â The woman freaked out, confused. She followed them behind the car.
âKeep giving him CPR. I have something in my place that might help.â
Baekhyun went in front of the car, fixed the seat, and started driving. He drove as fast as he could to his place, he had the hazard lights on, he didnât stop at any red light, he kept honking the car on every car that was on his way. Every second counted. The man could die at any moment.
They reached his place in 3 minutes.
Baekhyun carried the man on his shoulders and ran as fast as he could to his door steps.
Baekhyunâs eyes widened. His keys were in his bag.
He left his bag in the parking lot.
âFuck. Fuck. Fuck. This isnât happening,â he muttered to himself.
âWhat? Whatâs happening?!â The woman freaked out while she held the manâs face behind Baekhyunâs back, trying to wake the unconscious man.
âFuck,â Baekhyun panicked. He didnât want to let the woman know. Sheâd make him freak out more if she knew.
Baekhyun searched his pockets. He was starting to feel the weight of the man on his shoulders. Baekhyun gulped. Then, he felt the bulk in one of his pockets. It was his wallet. He remembered he had a spare key in his wallet.
He immediately took his wallet and searched for the key inside his wallet.
It was the biggest relief of his life when he felt the cold brass meet his finger. It was his key.
He opened the door, then carefully placed the man in his living room.
âKeep giving him CPR,â he ordered the woman as he ran as fast as he could to his mini fridge, and took a package on the top shelf.
He ran back to the man. His hands were shaking. He had read the instruction of how to use the shot countless times when he had nothing to do with his time and when he attempted to throw it away because it took a lot of space. Chanyeol had also told him how to use the shot once or twice just in case Chanyeol got overdosed himself. But Baekhyun still read it, just in case he read it wrong before.
But he was shaking, his head couldnât think straight. There was an unconscious man in front of him.
âFuck this shit.â
Heâll have to trust his memory.
He opened the package, and there was a tiny bottle that came with a huge syringe in it.
âRip his shirt open,â Baekhyun commanded the woman as he tried to inject the 6-inch needle to the bottle with his shaky hands.
Baekhyun breathed heavily. He held his hand high over his head with the syringe, focused on the manâs chest. He had to inject the shot hard enough to get through his ribcage to his heartâto make his heart pump again with the adrenaline shot.
Baekhyunâs breath got heavier and heavier by the second.
Just a single response.
Baekhyun held his breath and stabbed the man with the needle.
A single response that could make everything better.
The man arose from his position, making a loud noise as he inhaled every air his lungs could get as he came back to life.
In a shaky voice, breathing rapidly, the man cursed, âFuck.â
Or could make matters worse.
To be continued...
