theres so many things i could point out that i love, from the amazing designs of the enviroment and characters, to the expressions. my art brain is going crazy, i love this sm! 💚

speaking abt character designs, THIS IS GREAT!!! THEY'RE SO COLOURFUL AND EXPRESSIVE WITHOUT BEING WEIRD!! (im not a fan of sonic characters that have hair different colour to their body, it makes it seem like they're wearing a wig)

THIS IS PERFECT! JET BEING OBSESSED WITH SONIC, WAVE NAGGING HIM AND STORM BEING SILLY WITHOUT FAT JOKES!!! OMG I LOVE THEM!!!! 😭🫶

I didn't start playing Okami back when it released on the playstation but when it had come to the Wii I was instantly hooked. The artstyle, the story and just being able to run around as a DOGGO was amazing for my young teen brain!! It got me into looking up myths and legends when I was in school and now I love reading about them still to this day, its fascinating seeing what was used in the game and seeing other instances of the real myths in other games thanks to Okami getting the ball rolling for me! Then of course Okamiden came out and THAT IS THE ORIGINAL OKAMI 2 WE CANNOT FORGET ABOUT THE LIL OUPPY HIMSELF CHIBI!!! I'll admit I may have only played thru Okamiden once.... only because I HAD a complete file and lent the game for a family friend to play on... and they deleted the file and I had been so discouraged to replay it again, maybe with the new game being teased I may play thru it again along with OG okami as well to 100%

Back when I first played Okami initially, I managed to make 2 things just because I loved the game so so much, first being this old clay figure I made. Its missing a leg sadly but I'm still so dang proud of how well younger me managed to even get it so well shaped! Her mirror is a lil worse for wear too but its flames are hanging on by a thread (its removable too!)

Then I forget WHEN I made this but I think I just wanted to paint something small on this tiny canvas I found at the time, and tiny it was! Again probably to broaden my skills as a kid XD

And then in 2019 during one my sisters batchelorette outings we did for fun, we went to this ceramics cafe where we could pick something and just go buck wild and paint whatever we wanted on it. I decided to make the coolest mug ever, and of course did Ammy! Itty bitty Issun to boot XD

Now something cool folks may not have seen that I gots! I didn't use the internet like crazy as a kid so I didn't know about looking things up for games and whatnot, so how did young me even stumble onto Okami to begin with? Well with THESE two books right here!!

NINTENDO POWER BABEYYYYYY!!!!! Back when I had been getting a subscription, these were my introductions to Okami! The One with Sonic on it was the original one that had this section for Okami in the issue, and man when I saw the art for it I fell so hard in love adsfsgdhfj

Then the Kingdom hearts one was the one that told me about Okamiden!

I had to go digging for those when I remembered I had them at all, the only other cool things I owned that I didn't make or was the game themselves XD

I'm so hyped Okami is getting a third game and from the trailer alone it's gonna look amazinnnngggg. With how far graphics have gotten today, who knows how much stylization were gonna get that's essentially what they wanted from the original, how far can they push the Sumi-e now that we have the graphic capabilities? I can't wait for news and PRAY it comes to the next gen nintendo console, we got the other two for the nintendo, one being a DS exclusive, so it would be insane if it didn't come to nintendo again.

HIII FENN!!! the asks DEFINITELY helped chill me out and take my mind off things. I cant remember if you told me about following me for hlvrai art but good lord... we're skipping through these interests together

I've been having a lot of fun with transformers so far! I remember being apprehensive about getting into it cause it seemed a bit daunting with just how much stuff theres been made for it since its conception but it seems like one of those medias where you can pick a path to take to get into it and then keep going from there. And there's many paths to take! You could start with watching the G1 cartoons that are available on youtube, you can grab onto any of the various modern shows (prime, earthspark, transformers animated, etc), you could fucking. Watch the bayverse movies. (those are what i grew up on and where most of my cursory knowledge was from). And then i havent even mentioned all the various comics

The newest film, Transformers One, is what has drawn in a lot of new fans it seems and provides a good starting point for seeing optimus prime and megatrons story and conflict. My path to getting into it went like this: watching bayverse movies growing up -> seeing bumblebee (2018) -> watching transformers one -> watching the first seasons of G1 and earthspark -> starting the comics with IDW transformers: more than meets the eye, which my friends have said is the best and easiest way to get into the comics. And youll be having a great time the whole time (do you know how much crazy violence they can get away with cause theyre robots, not humans. Its wild. Also its very queer and has fantastic character arcs and writing, it feels like such a fully thought out and lovingly crafted story)

Now that I'm fully into it, I would say that I would absolutely recommend :] i think theres something here for everyone. Hmu on discord if you ever wanna talk more about it!!!

this is pretty niche but i’m sure most mcd fans will catch what i’m getting at, but to give a general understanding: i’ve been hyperfixated hardcore on sonic for a while now and there’s some neat things i’ve taken from trying to force mcd/sonic aus, lol.

in the game sonic and the black knight (my favorite game. no i don’t have a type/j), sonic goes on a quest to save the kingdom of camelot from the underworld, of which king arthur is trying to take over - but, in the end, it turns out that he’s just an illusion puppeted by the kingdom’s sorceress, merlina. merlina goes crazy, merging the underworld and the kingdom in order to make the kingdom live forever - because she’s saddened by death.

tl;dr sonic beats the shit out of the wizard merlia after she tried to take over the kingdom with immortality and then has this incredibly touching moment: “merlina… every world has its end. i know that’s kinda sad, but… that’s why we have to live life to the fullest. at least, that’s what i figure!”

and i can’t help but connect that to aphmau. to me, aphmau is PERFECT for sonic’s role - even if their personalities are very different, their core traits are still the same. make sure everyone gets to live life. to live freely, and to love!

another core feature about sonic, is that generally, he’s not meant to change. he changes the world around him. he, despite being the main character, isn’t the focus of the story - the people and the world surrounding him are! and i LOVE to imagine aphmau in that similar role, not necessarily changing herself, but everything else. motivating people to be their truest selves, liberating everyone for that chance of freedom, and giving second chances.

and honestly - she is this character. in season 1, aphmau stays primarily very much so the same. she’s the strong, fun, light-hearted one who never seems to take things too seriously (while still taking them as they are). that’s what’s so appealing about her! she’s driving the world to change! she’s making huge influences on the people around her! she’s the main character, the story-driver, the reason the world is going uphill.

and then by season 2, we lose that.

there’s nothing wrong with character development. obviously! it makes for characters to feel more real and 3-dimensional, and i’m not even saying that mcd’s format would have supported this type of character anyways, but truly… i think the concept still remains dear to me. aphmau is not meant to change; she’s meant to change the world around her. support everyone else into achieving what they’re meant to achieve. etc :(

AWW MAN !!! THAANK YOU SO MUCH for giving me a reason to talk about this because i have actually answered this question before . but now that i’ve actually come to learn how the game works i hold a lot more respect for it overall LOL

i put forward Link’s arc with the master sword/temple of souls in the first post but i would rlly like to revisit that and get a bit more specific abt WHY i love it. under the cut bc it’s screenshot heavy LOL

to start out stage 12, they explain that link is Really jamming on the master sword

you start at the Front of the hyrulean forces and are immediately thrown into combat while Proxi cheers you on, and Impa seems apprehensive

Overall this stage is Overwhelming. you have lots of keeps to capture across the entire map, only one warrior to control, and they keep spawning Very annoying Very powerful enemies that immediately begin advancing towards Zelda. After you’ve neutralized that threat, Cia only makes things worse

this is awesome . this is actually so great . i LOVE dark link as a concept and i ADOOOOORE the way they really expand on the whole “manifestation of the darkness in your heart” thing by giving link Specific Flaws to be fighting against.

not to mention the fact that it’s a flaw that you could argue was present Before the master sword ie. ignoring his comrades and running into battle despite still being a trainee in the Opening cutscenes.

couldnt find a natural way to weave this in but i also find it so interesting that these things are Both true.

when impa told link that hes the chosen hero he “did not believe himself worthy of the honor” despite knowing he’s an excellent swordsman . really shows that when he embraces his role later on a little Too enthusiastically there is Growth .

i think i would kill for this game to have the capability of providing a more intricate and moment-to-moment narrative just to see how this arc would play out on an intimate level, AND what it actually means when link considers himself not worthy yet. but this game canonically spans a matter of Months adding up the several “weeks passed” timeskips so that would be crazy. i will have to do it myself >.o

this rlly is just about one thing . MY BAD!!!

i think it’s cool we get to play with characters who would never reappear in the franchise otherwise. its one hell of an excuse but i am still delighted by it

this seems like a Good strategy game as far as gameplay goes . it has been fun and challenging cutting my teeth on this new format

Also before I do that I just wanna say that I absolutely love THOAM and I'm so glad I've been along on such a crazy journey for this long. Love seeing your art evolve throughout the 2 years I've been here!

ok let's get on with it already-

Okay so the first thing I noticed is Sonic's demeanor in this entire chapter so far. Sonic wasn't necessarily pissed at Shadow before coming here, (I still fail to remember the name of their location) but he was a bit... He seemed angered to some degree. This obviously has to do with the lack of sleep he's been getting due to his incredibly painful transformation, and uh side note here, transforming on its own would be enough to make someone feel out of sorts. I totally understand why Sonic is acting odd, in this case.

Anyway, the point I'm making is that Shadow has slowly been testing Sonic's patience throughout this and the last chapter. In the last one, Shadow said something incredibly rude and impulsive, which lead to Sonic staying behind in the dorm while Shadow and Chip were getting mawled. He only came back because he knew they were in deep trouble. The hug he got from Shadow didn't really help all that much, even if it was a kind gesture and something the Ultimate Lifeform wouldn't typically do. Because, y'know, it's just a hug. People hug others all the time, and it's not even close to a real apology.

Then Chip stayed behind with Tails. And... Suddenly, Sonic took a complete 180!

Without Chip around, without Sonic's emotional support buddy, the blue blur is left with all these pent up emotions that he's been refusing to let out for a long time. The last time he cried was days ago when he accidentally attacked Amy, and for us, that was probably like 3-4 years ago at this point. He's hardly had enough time or room to really feel anything, and that leaves him all constipated and icky. Sure, he had to kind of mellow his real feelings when Chip was around because he's just a kid in Sonic's eyes, and when Sonic lashes out it impacts Chip in a bad way. This doesn't mean Sonic feels any better without Chip, because without him, there's no hype man to make him feel better. There are no comforting words or small chit-chats for the road and no pit stops to get snacks... It's just him and Shadow now, and since they're on a pretty important mission to, you know, fix the entire fucking world, there's like no time for breaks.

Combine all this with the fact that Sonic is stuck as a Werehog for this entire chapter, and for the entirety of this specific mission... Yeah, you've got a pretty cranky hedgehog. And here's the sad part in all of this: Sonic doesn't like feeling this angry and this alone, but no one seems to really understand him anymore. Not even Shadow. They don't know what it's like living two whole lives at once, having to go through all this pain and agony for so long and not able to tell a soul. They couldn't possibly comprehend!

So how should he feel when his closest companion makes an effort to understand, even just by a little bit?

TL;DR

Sonic is confused and angry at the world. He doesn't understand what to do or how to act, and without Chip's support and unintentional therapy, he's just kinda... Left to his thoughts. Shadow suddenly trying to help after being not very helpful for a while made things even more confusing, and the fact Shadow never told Sonic about the constant nighttime thing... Yeeeeeaaahhh, Sonic's not doing too hot.

IM FOUND ONE OF THESE MEMES IN MY DRAFts! Im gonna rank my experiences in the major fandoms i’ve engaged with.

🩵 YUGIOH! - Second longest running fascination. Upside!! Made life long friends. DOWNSIDE!! Was my first go at online engagement and in those 10 years so much happened that I still can’t help but feel a little sour. …Though ygo back in the day wasn’t good at tag comments, so I didn’t even know those were a thing for years until I branched out. 5/10. But grows to a 7/10 because i’ve settled into a niche area with so few people that it’s now a silly little club. 💕

🧡 Dragon Ball/Z - GENUINE CHAOS. Started off slow but intensified hard cuz get who got involved while Super was airing??? (I didn’t watch it lol), so the discourse and fighting was at an all time high. I have no idea how I even survived this in retrospect. My slight association with people netted me troll asks and my liking of Yamcha also set me up for those. …and frequent art reposting, and quite a few bizarre interactions. Pretty sure my art and edits have circulated more in latin america than I even know. This was also pre-tumblr purge so the amount of nsfw that got thrown my way is… something. That said!! Made also really good friends 💕 and DB/Z probably desensitized me to longer form discussions. 5/10 for insanity, but 8/10 for good reception and VERY PEAK and generous humans.

I think dbz hardened me.

💚 Invader Zim- started off fun (mostly irl with my friendo from days of YGO), but quickly devolved into territory that tested my patience. WHY ON EARTH THIS SERIES’ CONSUMERS had such a huge morality high ground base is beyond me. It’s this fandoms fault I learned about certain modern day online discourse terms and what instilled an irrational posting fear for a year lol. Fun at first and there’s super creative and receptive folk (then those people got kicked out) and left the most insufferable beings imaginable. There’s no in between. Shoutout to all 3 friends made who are still peak. 3/10, if I ever finish any remaining projects or decide to bite the bullet and show completed work, i’m not engaging again. The base just skews somewhere I can’t handle. Which is crazy given the ABOVE contenders have, on paper, done so much more.

dbz hardened me but iz weakened me. Which is probably why i need the formers bootcamp back. Don’t think I’m as fearful now, but i’ll still be salty.

💜 Twisted Wonderland - this is a work in progress experience. Will require further evaluation if all of the above experiences haven’t set my standards. Will stay in my corner. So far it’s 6/10 in vibes (they’re much calmer than the last one), tho I question how much of the interest is from what i do vs. what I did for others. Haven’t shared a ton of opinions yet and god knows lol we don’t want that /s. Still recovering from the former making me wanna just not do much. Baby steps I suppose.

💙 - Sonic The Hedgehog: This is a cheat, I have never interacted with the fandom directly (purely by happenstance, so thankfully no traces exist), but I have been into this since I was a child with no issues. So by default this is the best one. 10/10, didn’t engage, but I do lurk. Though all the stuff I see on tweeter isn’t exactly anything out of the norm for fandoms in general to do, so it weirds me out that people rag on this one for just kinda talking amongst themselves about innocuous things.

“omg this fandom is arguing over QUILL length ughhh can they never be pleased [30 yt videos about this drop]” ngl, this just feels like par for the course junk fandoms do. It really feels no different from DBZ where people go ham about the art style changes and which one is better. Or stupid shit in IZ where they fight about comics vs movie vs show. Like??? The only major difference here is that StH has more people in it (by the millions).

So literally nothing these folk do or say strikes me as anything more serious than what other fandoms already do??? Its just more outsiders see it then churn out content and perpetuate something worse from what’s honestly….pretty tame stuff. Maybe it’s just twitter’s setup given that’s all folk talk about.

Opinion: SA1's OST is at the very least top 3 in the whole franchise, and its rich art direction is only matched by '06's music.

(Not sure about the art direction part, but only because there's a lot of OSTs where I'd praise the direction in addition to those two lol.)

Despite the fact that I'm pretty sure I've made top 5 or 10 Sonic OST posts in the past, it's never permanently set in stone because I love too many of them for my own good. Even so, SA1 and '06's OSTs will definitely always be in the top category for me... along with the Advance trilogy. And Mania. And Heroes. And CD. And...

Anyway, as you know, SA1's impressive variety is an integral ingredient to why I cherish it so much. I love the nostalgia of Station Square. I love the intrusive fuck you energy of Eggman's leitmotif. I love the melancholy of Gamma's theme. I love the feel good whimsy of Windy Hill, the excitement of At Dawn, the casual rock of Mechanical Resonance, the mystique of Tricky Maze, the manic pacing of Sky Deck's tracks, the sheer contrast between Red Mountain's tracks, the unconventional funkiness of Crazy Robo... even ambient tracks like Snowy Mountain are very memorable and impactful. I can't think of a single track that I struggle to remember.

SA1's aesthetic and vibes (I hate that I now have to specify I don't mean in the shallow way when I use those terms) are already among the best in the series on their lonesome, but just like with a certain purple dragon, the music goes a long way to elevating the atmosphere even further. Nothing is compromised, nothing is shortchanged, it's just a satisfying blend of everything Sonic music has to offer.

hello. at the time of me writing this opening paragraph, it is november 7th, and my old rom hack 'Pepsi in Sonic 1' turns six years old today.

you probably have not have heard of it. if you have, you probably either watched somecallmejohnny play it once, or you ran into it while looking up sonic rom hacks on youtube, or you got a random DM from me asking "u ever heard of pepsi in sonic 1" for no reason other than because its funny.

if you already know me, you know i am bad with words and conversation and stuff. but if you dont, i hope that helps a bit of understanding in why i might randomly ask u if u heard of this weird little rom hack. i am bad with starting a conversation ! and my dumb little sense of humor thinks it's funny to bring up a rom hack that doesnt even represent any of the things i currently do !

anyways, even though i joke a lot about this rom hack now and for a few years even Hated its very existence... i also have a deep love for it, as it was one of the few fangames ive made that i feel were made of pure, unrestrained passion. and i dont think i would be the same person i am now if not for this dumb little hack existing.

Alright, so Pepsi in Sonic 1 is a rom hack of (you guessed it) Sonic 1 that i made in 2016 for the sonic hacking contest. at that point, i had only been making games for 2 years and this was one of my first rom hacks ive ever made...

On the Surface, it looks like just a simple joke hack that replaces Sonic with a can of Pepsi. there's also a ton of other sprites that get changed into random little jokes, with some of the more notable changes being Big the Cat replacing Eggman, Jimmy Neutron replacing the Newtron badniks, and the wrecking ball sprite being replaced by a sprite based off Somecallmejohnny's "amiibo face". The game also has a ton of other silly little jokes, such as changing every level's names to something dumb or changing the level art slightly. And the people who played it pretty much wrote it off as just that... just a weird little joke hack that you may or may not have found funny.

but let me tell u.. there is more to this dumb little rom hack than u think ! one of the most major changes to the original game is that every level has been edited to have almost completely new level design.. and honestly a lot of the levels hold up pretty well. the Are some problems which come from the way they were designed.. for u see, i still didnt know a whole lot so a lot of the levels are built on top of the original Sonic 1 layouts, with some sections in some levels being kept the same, as well as all of the levels being forced within the original size limits of the levels (on Top of me having to deal with all the hardcoded bullshit from certain levels like Labyrinth and Scrap Brain).

So, some levels like 'Not Green Hill Zone', 'Dimps Place Zone', and 'Pepsi City Zone' have some really huge changes to the level layouts, while the rest of the game is still a little recognizable from the original Sonic 1 levels.. but i managed to make enough changes to where the whole game feels wildly different from vanilla Sonic 1. Not Only are all the levels different.. but all of them have a hidden "emerald monitor" which u can find to unlock one of the emeralds. they're in pretty difficult to find places, and when u collect all 6 emeralds they give you extra lives when destroyed. The only problem with them is that you can keep collecting the same emerald monitor in a level by dying... so you could cheat and get all 6 emeralds in one level. Still, it's a nice little thing that i put a lot of effort into making.

another one of the main big things in the hack is the Playable Characters. the main character is just a Pepsi Can who is basically just a sprite replacement of Sonic, However there are three other characters in the game that you can play. there is Pepsiman, who's main gimmick is that he can't actually do Damage while spinning. he's basically the game's hard mode, and you actually have to explore the third act of each level to find an invincibility monitor, as he also can't do damage to the bosses. he is the Running Hero, after all ! his only desire is to quench your thirst.. oh and also he can destroy eggman monitors without taking damage from them so. Yea.

You can also play as Classic Sonic, who is his own separate character and uses sprites from the 8-bit games. unlike the other characters, he actually has his own special move: The Drop Dash. You See, in the middle of the hack's development, Sonic Mania was revealed. So, as soon as i saw the drop dash in that game i just Had to implement it in this game. And Well, with it being one of the first instances of the drop dash in a fangame, it is implemented Very Poorly. But It Exists ! and there's actually secret paths you can take using it in the levels (something i wish Sonic Mania did but oh well..). Something that Classic Sonic doesnt have that the Pepsi Can and Pepsiman have is that they can perform the 'Shield Double Jump', in which you are given the ability to double jump while having a Shield. the double jump is pretty powerful, but it stops your speed. i didnt give it to Classic Sonic for Balancing reasons (AKA: i wanted there to be a reason to actually play as the other characters)

the only other character is actually a very hidden secret character: a Very Broken version of Knuckles. all of his sprites are broken and also i think it plays loud music while u play as him. thats all there is to him LOL!

Anyways. Um Yea. i put a lot of work into this rom hack back then. i was still pretty new to ROM hacking, with this being my first time using a disassembly. so i had to both learn basic ASM aswell as figure out how a ton of tools worked just for this game.. and i didn't even understand how most of the stuff worked by the end of it ! and i spent pretty much every weekend Exclusively on working on the hack. also, i had pretty much No Help with this game, with me having to rely on the Very Old and Outdated sonic retro wiki aswell as old forum posts just to implement the things i wanted (and there's still a ton of ideas i didnt get to implement)

when the game finally released at the hacking contest, i was very proud of it but also very Burnt Out. there was still a Ton of issues with this game... for One, all of the pixel art was pretty Bad. not only that, but my method for implementing artwork was very Confusing and Time consuming, with the different playable characters being a huge hassel as i did not know how to make them have different "mappings", which made making the different characters very restricting. there's also little problems with the level design, such as certain "chunks" being misused at some points and also Labyrinth Zone being not as edited as the other zones

i think one of the biggest mistakes i made with this game is with the jimmy neutron sprite... You See, in the original Sonic 1, the Newton badnik has two variants with different behaviors. one uses the first palette line, which contains the colors used for Sonic and most of the objects in the game. the Other varient uses a separate palette line specific to Green Hill Zone, which gives it a more green color scheme. You See.. the jimmy neutron sprite wasnt implemented until the Very End of the game's development... and i never bothered to check the other variant of the jimmy neutron sprite to see if it worked with the new palette and Um..

Yeah . it is not supposed to look like that. this is something that i didnt realize until awhile ago when i replayed the hack for this post. i feel pretty stupid for not noticing it sooner.

anyways. part of what made me hate this game for awhile is The Humor. you see, when it came out, a lot of the people in the hacking community thought it was Unfunny and Dumb. So, by extension, i also started Hating it for being a Dumb and Unfunny rom hack. And well... i made this hack when i was 13, so there Are a lot of dumb unfunny stuff in this hack, like replacing the Points sprite with 'GAY', or having one of the sprites be of ken penders' face.

a lot of things in this hack havent aged well, but i think ive grown to accept this hack's existence. its one of the first things ive made that got Some sort of public knowledge, even if still very few people have played it. And i think, if it werent for me making this hack and joining the hacking community, i wouldnt have ended up in the crazy situation i am in today..

i may joke about askin people if theyve heard of pepsi in sonic 1, and although i would prefer if people checked out my newer stuff, i also hope at least Some One, Some Where, can appreciate the dumb little hack i made. this hack was very important to me when i made it, it was made before i even fully interacted with the hacking community. it has all sorts of dumb little ideas that i tried to do despite all the restrictions i had.. and it was a little soul crushing back then when no one payed much attention to the game i spent Months working on. nowadays, i think ive come to accept being a niche little game dev.. but also i cant help but wonder if there are people out there who like my strange little creations as much as i do...

anyways. Idont know. i probably am missing out a lot of things that i wanted to say. this whole thing is probably incomprehensible (i am currently writing this paragraph at 1 am on November 13). it has been Very Hard for me to Do Things or to even Write Down my thoughts on things. but i hope you appreciate this little thing i wrote about the thing i made.

Overall i loved this idw issue, i can always make the excuse " use more jet content!" but they did a really good job with expressing all the characters fairly. (still, i still want more jet tho :P)

Well, who could have predicted what went down between SA2 and now. And I imagine if certain events went differently, we might some things would be way different. Especially when English is telling one story and Japanese telling another. (He wasn't the only character who experienced writing issues, his in particular just became "unfocused" after a while until they started scaling back the cast a bit.)

Hmm, probably would have helped if he had more kids around his age to interact with frequently. Cream slowly faded to the background {to her fans' dismay}, Marine is in Blaze's dimension and good luck finding Charmy interactions. Closest thing now is Sage and that's a mystery for now.

I think his theme song pretty much laid out his aspirations and still holds true for his Frontiers story in both versions of it. Presented differently in it and SA2, but ultimately the same goal: Finding his own style and path. (How far his potential goes really depends on him, so him pushing himself in different ways [and perhaps at times too much] could make him discover more things about him he hadn't before. That, wanting to show his friends his new skills is a good motivator too. xD)

I don't expect a drastic timeskip either; at most it'd probably be a few years. I'm sure they want keep the characters relatively similar-looking in nature if they ever decide on any physical or outfit changes to fit their current story, but not disrupting the iconicness of the designs. It's not the same as making an adaption with a different art direction. (Heh, I actually like the idea of him having a ponytail, to go along with his tails. Like Bark's, but shorter. But I can see them going for stylized models; the Mario crowd has been going nuts over "Wonder".)

In Boom's case, since it was meant to be its own subsection, the characters having designs that distant them from their Modern selves made sense from a marketing standpoint. Mixed on release, warmed up since but not wholly. At least wasn't the early concept art, Sega stomped down hard to get what we got. (It was mainly Knuckles and Sonic that got most of the criticism, with Amy to lesser extent, and Tails having little to none. Heck, some think his Modern self SHOULD have the goggles and toolbelt. Funnily enough, some did like the idea of a bulkier Knuckles, just not top-heavy, and more like his ancestors. And I have seen some scarf/adventure-looking Sonics here and there. And the surprise that was Vector, that leather jacket does suit him.) In any case, making changes isn't easy. Execution matters so much.

Considering that Eggman has a Vtuber model now; that'll likely mean other characters down the line, depending on the topics that pop up. (Though Shadow does feel like he's next. Hoping that his is mainly him and Tails before Sonic inevitably pops in, which is a recurring gag for that series.) But yeah, just a few fun shorts. Nothing crazy.

Yeah, his development from sa1 to sa2 made sense, it's unfortunate that it didn't work out in the long run.

Actually... idk about that. I feel like interacting with the other kids a lot would only highlight how more mature he is compared to them. When with his own friend group of older friends he still comes off as more childish than them. Maybe if they'd leaned into "youngest characters all being friends" from the start, but we'll never know now.

(Though take this with a grain of salt since maybe I also have a bit of resentment over people trying to metaphorically "banish them to the kids table", as if they all need to hang out with each other just because they're the same age.)

Yeah "Believe in myself" is a great theme for Tails and I feel like. You need to listen to it to understand him as a character, though I feel like it fits what he's going through in Frontiers somehow better than sa1? Like, a lot of the stuff mentioned in the song you can't really get from his story in the game itself (or maybe I just. forgot or wasn't paying enough attention). (Though it might also be the case of them writing frontiers and using the song as a baseline for his character and arc, while in sa1 it was probably the opposite)

Maybe they will change up some clothes!(Tails with a little ponytail? Aahhh it would be so cute) (I do agree with those people I wish Tails had goggles and a toolbelt in the mainline series. Maybe not on a permanent basis but at least goggles when he's flying? On the other hand, I do enjoy the main characters all having pretty simple designs. I also agree with Knuckles being bulkier, I like what they did for the movie, it just makes more sense for the type of character he is)

I only brought up Boom as an example of people reacting negatively to the redesigns, and it wasn't even canon.

there's a lot of fusion across sounds and genres that happens on fine line and i am in love with it forever. the initial high and glitter and infatuation and freedom and revelation of the first four tracks, the groovy guitar and the gospel choir, swooping down into the sweetbitter sting of cherry and its delicate acoustics and its tinged pink atmosphere (pathetic was his word, regretful is mine), and then the full scale piano soaring vocals drowning heartbreak ballad of falling (that plea: what am i now? i cannot), and then the cheeky/resentful self-deprecating ukulele match strike of to be so lonely, and then the more hs1 old-fashioned rock epic in she, and then sunflower comes in and goes, "hi, so we've been moping for a while, it's time to get psychedelic with it."

sunflower is the light switching back on (lights up and you know who you are, do you know who you are?), some recovery, some happy memories, still the yearning, but it's giving way to something else. the genius of "does he take you walkin' 'round his parents' gallery?" transforming into "i've got your face hung up high in the gallery." HELLO? nepo boyfriend can take you to SEE the art, but to harry...you ARE the art. he's still self-criticizing and reflecting, but in a less harsh way (not the wandering hands or arrogant son of a bitch, just trying hard not to act a fool). kiss in the kitchen like it's a dance floor! keep it sweet in your memory! we're finding our way through! the silly bizarre nonsense mushroom noises because his humor is sparkling back into view. and then! suddenly! bursting onto the scene in screaming bright color, guitars and dulcimer and whistling and sunshine, is canyon moon, and we're going home!!! an old lover's hippie music! you do not understand (actually you probably do), i love the storytelling that happens there SO much. i LOVE the way sunflower was a turning point in the writing and sits as a turning point on the album itself, where it's like, we've grieved, we've paced, we've been lost and questioned everything, we've felt it all, and now it's time to find the sun again. (take me back to the light...i've been thinking back to a time under the canyon moon. golden is answered in sunflower and canyon moon.) i'm going home and looking to treat people with kindness, in spite of everything. go home and take a deep breath and reflect on everything that's happened, and feel that hurt and that mysterious pull, and remember the love that was there, in six minutes and eighteen seconds of catharsis, and it's all just such a fine line. crisp trepidation (the vocal layering and harmonies there. then the horns at the end!), because the fear is crystalline, but we keep going anyway. that's what we always are, constantly walking along it. we'll be a fine line, over and over, in different ways. maybe that's okay. maybe we'll be alright.

ALL that said, because it is such a perfect album and told in such a specific way and follows a story, anything extraneous or that didn't directly enrich it, or was TOO cutting or too sorrowful, he took out, which objectively i understand for the sake of the art, but subjectively and selfishly, i want to know what it was. I NEED. i'll take the even more experimental ones, the bitter and angry songs, or sad ones, or earlier adoring ones, please give them all to me immediately. the fact that this will probably never happen??? i can't think about it!

✨- "Impact" just sounded cool for a guy whose deal is punching so hard it makes shockwaves TBH - the name was decided before he even became a cowboy.

🌼 - He's a BIT older than Sonic, 16-17. Doesn't really act like it though when he's not in his "Sheriff" persona.

🌺- In my brain movies, he's got this one outlaw dude who he's always butting heads with and trying to catch, whose relationship with him is also VERY gay-coded. He's a mosasaur because I'm a secret paleo-nerd. Gotta give him a better name than "Tyler Saurus" tbh

🍕 - I'm going to defy my source pages and say "Onion rings." He also really likes them on a good, fresh-grilled "cowboy burger."

💼 - He's the sheriff! He basically just applies that to being the protector of his island. There isn't any "police" or anything, considering it's a small island settlement. He just likes being "sheriff."

🎹 - He's a surprisingly exquisite cook! A SHRIMP FRIED THAT RICE. Although pincer-hands can make certain recipes more difficult... dunno if that design element is gonna stay tbh. Maybe he also collects dried seashells, considering the star on his cowboy hat is meant to be a dried sea star.

🎯 - He's got a really keen eye for detail, not just because he can see more colors. Almost photographic memory if he wants to have it. He's also come up with a surprising amount of uses for shockwaves, whether firing them underwater to heat things up, or using them to propel himself through the air - maybe he can even go at super speed by just PUNCHING BEHIND HIM.

🥊 -He loves INTERROGATING people, because he's GOOD at it! He hates doing stuff at night because he's freakin' terrified of the dark. He's also insecure about his freckles, so he wore a bandana at first to look more intimidating.

❤️ - This is where we start getting into bridging today with five years ago - parts I'm not sure about! Probably some really fun cowboy LARP with his BFF/brother figure Archer the Fish.

✂️ - His dad just disappearing from the island when he was just BARELY old enough to process it.

🧊 - He wasn't always a cowboy. He was originally a more laid-back, neutral character who didn't have a drawn design - he'd randomly pick whatever side he agreed with more in any conflict. His MS Paint cowboy design was created in a sudden eruption of motivation (I get those) long before I ever actually dedicated myself to Sonic art. He is also in desperate need of another redesign, something simpler with fewer colors.

🍀 - I wanted a cool yet down-to-earth OC who would seamlessly fit into the game/comic world, and I wanted a Sonic OC based on a cool real-life animal with some kind of superpower of its own. Then someone on a Discord server suggested I make him a cowboy, and... here we are.

🌂 - He's a Western guy. And he's going Yeehaw Mode.

💚 - Impact is crusty cis... and very much bi. I originally intended for him to have a crush on Knuckles when he was trying to be more connected to the outside Sonic world, but now he's got that mosasaur toxic yaoi guy, so...

🙌 - He's got his brother/"deputy" Archer, an... archerfish who uses a bow and arrow and maybe SOME hydro kinetic powers. Or he just built a special bow that shoots water arrows... hmmm. I did conceive a couple of OCs around Impact - I wanted his island to have a little culture like Spiral Hill. Dunno how that will hold up.

🍎 - His dad was a pig. I'm probably scrapping his old backstory, but his biological dad SUCKED. Archer's parents, while we never really see them, are chill and Impact loves them.

🧠 - I like how out there he is, while still being grounded. I'll admit - I've conditioned myself to be iffy with crazy OP Sonic OCs. Your hedgehogs and Black Arms and chaos gods are all cool, really, but making one of my own just isn't my style. I'd rather make cool obscure animals into fun Mobians with outlandish powers that could be used for small but cool stories. That's just me.

✏️ - I literally dusted him off from when IDW was new to submit him. I barely remembered he exists. He's just my first "serious" Sonic OC not made for a specific story, and my "flagship" one. Can you tell by how much I'm struggling to remember and add as I write this, that I need to workshop him a LOT with my new ideas and understandings?

💎 - He might graphically lose an arm/hand down the line... and get a cool upgrade to replace it. He'd also DEFINITELY go down shooting in the Metal Virus. But him just straight-up dying, I... eh. He doesn't get favoritism immortality, I'll go with that.

💀 - He's so fucking scared of the dark oh my lord, he sleeps with a nightlight and doesn't want to dive in deep water where he can't see the bottom. Stick him, Sonic and Tangle in an underwater cave and cities will burn.

🍩 - BAD OLD LORE TIME! HIS ARCHNEMESIS WAS MIMIC! And guess why... Impact's dad killed Mimic's mom and then drove him off the island just for being her son! That's why Impact's dad left! That's the beginning of Mimic's entire spiral into villainy! I may KINDA keep this around, since it would make sense with all the sea creatures on an island and Mimic's possible country accent, but... wow.

🎓 - First made him when IDW was new, partially inspired by Tangle, and connected him to Mimic basically when Mimic was first revealed/accepted by the fandom (we literally guessed his name)... so, 5-6 years lol

🍥 - Somewhere between 15 and 18... I had some crappy CRAPPY OCs beforehand when I didn't quite even understand Sonic. Impact is my first genuinely good one.
