day 7 of @hprecfest — the best of your OTP
wit's end with this prompt, went through all my oldest bookmarks to pinpoint what about harry potter & draco malfoy sank its fangs into me eleven years ago and— look—
i can't remember the first h/d fic i read, but it would have been from @dictacontrion's daily drarry quotes initiative— a splendid system queueing delicious h/d snippets that ran from 2013 to early 2022. dicta wrote many of my early h/d favourites, the stuff that really got me into this ship, but the DDQ initiative was my first exposure to what prolific reading & fandom engagement looked like. DDQ led me to dicta's curated recs here on tumblr and here on LJ— gorgeous selections that were a crash course in learning my tastes.
hungry for more lists (still didn't quite trust myself with ao3/ffnet's search functions), i found @capiturecs' meticulous & immensely navigable LJ rec archive + rec tag & @gracerene-recs' drarry tag. i still go back to these, especially for older fics i don't see recced all that much anymore.
@drarryspecificrecs' reccing & fic finding catalogues running since 2017 are something else; their work on their main blog, on @drarryspecificrecsdaily & as part of @lostdrarryfics (if i'm not mistaken) is an enduring force in this fandom. their consistent contributions put so many underrated fics on my dash i wouldn't encounter otherwise, and it's always a joy to get the tag notif when i post something on ao3. (also here's a drarry reccers masterlist curated by LDF, i haven't checked out everyone on it, but go forth & enjoy!)
@bridenore has been reading fic on a scale i can only aspire to, their continuously updating rec tag is such a diverse list of reads across tropes & fests. @mxlfoydraco's one-stop-shop masterlist is also glorious.
@thedrarrylibrarian's friends of the library initiative is such a fun take on showing love to fanwork & building community— every rec, interview & adjacent commentary felt like having a warm mug of hot chocolate with a friend. here's the masterlist!
i'm also loving the collaborative brilliance of @drarry-reccage ('get recced!' is phenomenal energy)— seven pals putting time into fresh recs. individual tags: @cailynwrites' tag here; @dontthrowsticksatme's tag here; @garagepaperback's tag here; @kk1smet's tag here; @mallstars' tag here; @pl0tty's tag here; @sweatersinthesummer's tag here.
i also love @sweet-s0rr0w's recs (masterlist & tag); i love how inventive she is with themes (the collaborative sex scene rec initiative is fucking inspired). sweet is also doing recfest, check out the tag!
@ghaniblue's monthly reading lists are always fun & fresh + acari's rec tag includes their recfest entries, featuring some drarry, some other ships (including rarepairs), so go have a look!
in general, i've always loved creative recs, so @onbeinganangel's embroidery recs were some of the most fantastic stuff to ever cross my dash (i was lucky enough to get one for my birthday a few years ago & it changed my life). wistfulrats themed recs + commentary were also brilliant. this author list by @bogglebeans was also wonderfully unique & had great takes.
and! of course! @sitp-recs whose blog & person are both gems, whose participation in this fandom is an absolute beacon of light. liv reads & recs with such infectious enthusiasm & i only realised how much of a love song reccing could be for works & creators i enjoy and admire through following her. here's her masterlist of masterlists & every link is delightful. liv also runs incredibly, incredibly kind initiatives, the hidden gems series stands out, as does running @yours-drarry blog which is a platform to send appreciation to fandom participants, so if you've got some love to show someone this holiday season, hop on over!
this is by no means a comprehensive overview of all the reccing that goes on in this fandom, i'm probably missing much more than i've counted (speaking of, if you rec & i've missed you, let me know and i'll follow your tag). but among the many things i adore about h/d fandom, the robust reccing culture occupies one of the top spots, not only because it shows appreciation for creators but because it's such a distilled display of excitement for participating in fandom— all of us poking each other and being poked to go look at that cool, brilliant, fantastic thing, jittery to wax poetic about it. reccers held my hand in fandom when i didn't know what i was doing, relentlessly cheered (other) creators on, cultivated a participative space for readers & lurkers and set the bar in so many ways.
to everyone who keeps the h/d fandom alive— reccers, but also writers, artists, podficcers, fest moderators, editors, cheerleaders, readers, lurkers, everyone, everyone, past & present: you are the best of this ship.
for all the love, time & effort you've poured into this space, thank you.

since twitter has become actively hostile to its users, so they came to tumblr, and reddit has become actively hostile to its users, so they came to tumblr, what do we do now that tumblr is becoming (more) actively hostile to its users? i’ve been here for over a decade so i know tumblr users are the type to cling on despite everything and revel in undoing every change, but i’m so tired of the way this website breaks the way it fundamentally works in order to appeal to new users. the twitterfication of the site seems so much worse than when people jumped ship after the porn ban, and even then, only small communities (and twitter) cropped up as solutions. you might not be the person to ask for a definitive answer, but i figured a tech blog might be interested in considering - what do we do when there’s nowhere left to go?
Okay so, I mean this very seriously: how has tumblr meaningfully become like twitter?
I don't personally find the sidebar view obnoxious and it seems to me like just another layout change that's pretty typical to tumblr. New users are getting signed up with a bit more emphasis on algorithmic feeds, but that is still very easy to change (MUCH easier than on any other social platform) and the algorithm has been there for everyone for quite a while, we just typically don't notice it because a lot of long-term tumblr users don't go into the "for you" feed.
I don't think that tumblr *has* fundamentally broken the way that it works to appeal to new users. My dash now is still very much like my dash in 2019, and still very much like my dash in 2018 (though much less pornographic). Reblogs are still reblogs, likes are still likes. Replies, for all that they seem like they've been around forever, are new and good and I think they work well. I'm irritated that the notes menu doesn't have a "view all" option but I think that's a worthwhile tradeoff for an easy way to see tags.
I *do not* understand why tumblr has broken linking back to previous reblogs but I don't think that's out of an effort to act like twitter; it is a bizarre choice that I dislike and don't understand but I also don't think that it has fundamentally changed the way the site works and i mean you've been around long enough that I'm sure you've had the same experience I have of going into the notes of a post and randomly clicking until you found a version that you wanted to reblog without a bunch of bullshit at the bottom. Tumblr has always kind of sucked, this change DOES suck but it doesn't suck in a way that is particularly novel or insurmountable. (For instance, I think this change sucks MUCH LESS than when they made posts with links invisible to the search, that is something that is genuinely bad that has been long lasting but doesn't get brought up much in lists of the ways that tumblr has gone wrong)
Tumblr *is* changing, but I think it is changing more incrementally and less terribly than other parts of the internet. I also hate the floating clown, the login walls, the dash-only view for blogs (you can't archive it and I HATE that), and - to an extent - the new lightbox on mobile. And I dislike that less than I thought I would but I don't think it's a fundamental change that necessarily impacts my interactions with the site - it *adds* a feature that I don't care for but it doesn't *break* anything that I require to have a good time on tumblr - in that way I think of it very much like Live. People hate Live so much and I find that perplexing because it is so easy to simply ignore it.
But that's not really your question; that's just some stuff I want people to think about because as much as tumblr has changed in the last two years it is nowhere near as fucked up as the recent things that twitter and reddit have pulled.
So, as to your question: where do we go?
Well. Not to be an extremely old person on the internet, but damned if I don't miss email lists. And forums. God I miss forums. Neither of those things has all the bonuses of platforms like twitter or reddit or tumblr or facebook, but they were great ways to hang out with people you liked on the internet.
The internet is changing. I can feel it, you can feel it, I'm pretty sure we're all like cattle in a field lifting our noses and hearing some distant rumbling and becoming slowly aware that it's almost time to run. There's a coming stampede and it isn't here yet but you know it's on its way. You're not imagining that, that's how things feel right now and there are a shitload of things contributing to it.
Things like SESTA/FOSTA and KOSA (which has not passed yet but is a big red flag waving on the horizon) have been eroding away the way that users on various platforms can function. Some platforms have consolidated in ways that harm users; some new platforms have popped up and shaken up the map of the internet; some platforms are being torn apart brick by brick by owners who don't care about the users. It kind of seems like people are actually looking up and realizing that advertising is A) bad and B) doesn't actually work and I think we're running straight toward another advertising-based crash like we saw in 2017. It feels like all the desperate things that tumblr is doing is just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic as the internet as a whole starts to sink into the ocean.
Honestly, I don't think it's that bad. I think it *feels* bad, but I think we're looking at a slow whimpering death of the platforms, not a bang. I think tumblr is going to hang on at least for a few years and I think it's going to end up like livejournal and myspace, which both still exist as websites that are recognizable as updated versions of the sites they were in 2004-2010. The thing that I think would really, honestly hurt tumblr in a fundamental way is if it moved to a more algorithmic and data-sales based model of advertising, and I think that's still pretty distant. I think Automattic is aware that killing the chronological feed would be the one unforgivable sin that would cause a mass exodus and a final crash, and I think when we see that, when we can't just scroll through the feed and see what our friends did that day in order of when they did it, that's when the party is over here.
But that's still not answering your question.
So, where do we go? What do we do? Well, for now, I'd say it's a good time to get contact info for your friends across various platforms. Get email addresses, get phone numbers.
Now is also the time for you to set up a personal website. NeoCities is currently the best place to do this, though it takes a lot more effort than just starting a blog on tumblr. I think that various oldschool blogging sites like Wordpress and Blogger/Blogspot/whatever the hell the google one is are a better place to have your emergency backup than a more platform-y platform if you aren't up to doing something with NeoCities.
If you've got the ability to do so and a group of people who are interested in the same core subject, set up a forum. There's a decent amount of off-the-shelf forum software out there and a text-and-small-images forum isn't prohibitively expensive, but it's never going to be huge and you're never going to have the kind of spread and virality and random connections that you would on a platform with millions or billions of users.
If you can't set up a forum, setting up or joining a discord server for your friends is a decent enough option at the moment, and may be a very good option for people who are looking to keep their interactions more private.
But yeah i think right now is a great time for people to start setting up their own personal websites, to start visiting actual webpages again, to start bookmarking their friends' websites, and to start collecting contact info that isn't tied to platforms.

etiquette for using & crediting art
right, well, I'll get straight to it instead of messing about like in my other tutorials. editblr has a serious problem with people not crediting artists, we all know that, I don't need to talk much about it. but I figured instead of just making one of those posts, I'd make one explaining the etiquette for such things and how you can appropriately use fanart in your edits. oh, and also what could happen if you refuse to offer those credits
contents table:
stop letting them use your shit to train ai models
why credit is important, and what lack of credit could potentially do to your account
how to source your fanart
how to differentiate fanart from official art
how to find credits for art blatantly stolen and reuploaded to pinterest when all the caption says is "credit to the artist!"
knowing and understanding artist boundaries
how to give appropriate credit
alright, cool, let's talk about it
Tumblr media
— stop letting them use your shit to train ai models
if you've been on tumblr for a bit, or have just gone through the general settings, you'll probably have noticed that in the visibility tab there's this not-so-fun setting automatically turned off:
Tumblr media
yeah. that's fun, isn't it? since you're using fanart, and most artists don't support nor engage with ai, it's basic respect to opt out of such a thing.
settings -> visibility -> bottom option
Tumblr media
— why credit is important, and what lack of credit could potentially do to your account
I feel I shouldn't necessarily have to explain why credit is important, but I will anyway. in the plainest terms, they made it, it's theirs, so credit them. it's a simple concept, no? hm, but I know that doesn't sound important to some people, so imagine if someone stole your edits and reuploaded them onto their own blog, but in the caption all it says is "idk who made this originally, sorry" or "credits to artist".. I bet you'd feel pretty pissed off about it, right? your hard work being stolen by someone you've never heard of, who didn't even bother putting in the effort to search for you.
another thing: credit is still important when they're a figurehead in the community you're editing for. yes, their artstyle may be familiar to you and the others in your fandom, but to an outsider it's just another piece of fanart that remains uncredited.
if you use art that doesn't belong to you, and the original artist finds it and doesn't want you using it, you could face a takedown. of course, most artists are kind and would send you a polite notice first, but there's always that chance they could send over a takedown request to your post and therefore your blog with zero warning. three of those, your blog gets deleted. they're incredibly easy to send off, and afaik tumblr gets to them pretty quickly.
oh, and also people typically don't look favourably on those who can't be bothered to credit artists, so you'll end up losing connections with other editors as well, if you care about that.
Tumblr media
— how to source your fanart
stay away from pinterest. I cannot stress this enough, I understand that pinterest is by far one of the easiest platforms to find fantastic art on, but having proper credits is more important than the 5 minutes of time shaved off by stealing a reupload.
twitter, instagram, tumblr, pixiv, and deviantart are all good places to search. though, do make sure to check for ai on deviantart especially, it's like a rat infestation over there.
Tumblr media
— how to differentiate fanart from official art
fandom wiki. I know, we all hate fandom wiki, but whether your media is popular or unpopular it's likely to have a fandom wiki dedicated to it, and people will archive all official art there. if you're unsure, cross-examine the potential fanart piece with the archive.
if you hate fandom wiki that badly, there's also archival accounts scattered across different platforms, so you can use those.
if the art is official, then for company-ran medias it's normally okay to just add "all art is official" or leave it uncredited; though that's also somewhat of a dick move. but for smaller things like web-comics and games that aren't hosted on any big site, and have no huge monetary support, it's nice to include the name of the artist and/or creator.
Tumblr media
— how to find credits for art blatantly stolen and reuploaded to pinterest when all the caption says is "credit to the artist!"
reverse image search, that's my simplest answer. with chrome at least, it comes with a built-in reverse image searcher called google lens. it's normally highly efficient, so for most art pieces it'll pick up on the artist pretty quickly.
but what if it doesn't? what if it just links back to the original pinterest post instead? well, the weird thing about google lens in particular is that it initially retrieves one post it thinks it could originate from—probably the post with the most traffic going to it, but it then also features a "see exact matches" option underneath that first photo.
Tumblr media
if you click it, it'll show you a whole lot more examples of the art being used.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
normally, you can use that to figure out who made the art, since it'll show you similarly popular recorded instances. however, there are also times when even that fails to grab a source, and you're left only with confusing results. what do you do then?
well, you can either resort to clicking on random sites until you find a username, or you can give up and find a different piece of art to use. it's really just a process of rinse and repeat until you find something usable.
Tumblr media
— knowing and understanding artist boundaries
artist boundaries are typically easy to see and simple to understand. they're normally just in the bios of the artists, which is super helpful. however, sometimes they're kept within links placed on the accounts instead. if you can't immediately see a list of boundaries, then instead start looking for (typically) a link to one of these sites:
carrd
rentry
strawpage
lit.link
skeb (though skeb can sometimes block itself if you have parental controls on, so be aware of this)
scour through them, and you should get an understanding.
right, and for artists who have bios in foreign languages; just translate it, it's not as if google translate or deepl are impossible to use. not knowing the language isn't an excuse anymore.
however, if they still don't have one available, you might have to start searching keywords on their accounts. of course, such things aren't really possible on da or instagram, but on tumblr and twitter, search up these keywords before giving up on an art piece:
credit
pfp / icon / profile picture
use
your art
on tumblr especially, most asks are tagged with something or other, so you can scroll through and check to see if there's anything there too.
and if there's still nothing.. well, just ask the artist about it. if you don't want to do that, then it's not a good idea to use it, and it's back to the drawing board for you.
Tumblr media
— how to give appropriate credit
by including "art credit - (username)" in the description, ordinarily. however, you should note that most people who use rentry graphics don't care for art credits, and won't include them if they're using said graphics. so, that's why you put a watermark on it, so it's basically like forcing credit to be given. it doesn't have to be anything big or flashy, but it does need to be readable, so simple fonts work well.
oh, and ideally there should be a direct link back to the art piece, so if people want to use it also they don't have to scroll through someone's entire account trying to find it.
Tumblr media
anyway, hope that helped somewhat. if it didn't, then pop into my askbox and I'll explain things further.

I am trying SO HARD to find this one specific post/article, because I KNOW for a fact that I've read it before (or at the very least, it was screenshots or an archived version) but I can't find it for the life of me. I know I've seen it, but I've been searching everywhere I possibly can online and still have nothing. I *think* that it was maybe mentioned or discussed on your blog before (or if not, you and your followers' knowledge of fandom history might still be able to help me out)
I have a vivid memory of reading this old forum post (possibly from Usenet) from the 90s, about MSR. I believe it had been brought up as an example of puritanical moralizing/policing being a fandom issue long before the 2010s or 2020s, because it was a mid-90s forum post by somebody condemning the Mulder/Scully ship for being a "pedophilic fantasy" with a bunch of ridiculous mental gymnastics to justify their insane claim. I remember it because of how much of an outrageous reach that old take was. It might have even been an article instead of a forum post, I just KNOW I've seen it before. "Mulder/Scully is pedophilic" was just too absurd for me to forget.
I'm going to be discussing the topic of moralists targeting fiction for a presentation, and I really wanted to use that old MSR take as one of my examples (especially because I have a lot of citations for the 80s and 90s like "listening to rock music means you're a devil worshipper" and "video games cause violence" but I don't have anything from that era that pertains to fanfiction and shipping)
If anybody could help me find what I'm looking for, I'd be super grateful!
--
I don't recall it offhand, but it sounds hilarious.

G'day, I hope you're doing well on this fine Saturday!
A while ago, I began writing and sketching a Dungeon Meshi OC by basing him/her (haven't decided, though I might take the liberty of making it a guy) on my own characteristics, continent of residence and my play style in games like D&D to see what race, country and occupation would best fit that description in the world of good ol' Dungeons & Diners. In all honesty, the parallels I drew are somewhat superficial, so I could technically bullshit my way into being one of many things, but it's been a very fun way to kind of craft an OC that I think fits me the most regardless.
BUT, I have run into an epiphany! I need a hero, a guiding light, an archiver of Dungeon Meshi trivia! I need someone to save me! Super Meshi, will you answer my call for help?!
You see, I settled on making my OC an elf as I drew the most parallels with them on all fields and so far my characteristics are translating over quite well, but the problem lies in the fact that I'm above average in terms of tallness, but I don't really know how much I'd need to shorten this feller to make him pass as a right proper elf, y'know? I have dark hair too, I suppose, but you already answered a question regarding that a while ago. However, I can't find anything here on tallness other than a chart for every story character's height and that Mithrun's teammates are all taller than average, which... well, almost answers my question! Almost.
I guess I could just wing it, but with how much thought I already put into this character, I felt it was a good idea to ask you this; how tall can the average elf reasonably be based on all the information we have? Is it at all possible for them to reach or exceed tall-man heights or would that be far too unusual? Lycion is roughly 170cm, but I can't remember if any elf is taller than that, and while I've perused a great many ancient scriptures in search of precious knowledge, I believe you might be the hero I need to solve this relatively minor conundrum that may not even have a clear answer! I think the question might be a bit silly, but I hope you'll indulge me regardless. You'd have my infinite gratitude! I uh, I prolly coulda and shoulda condensed this ask into a single sentence. Pleasedon'tkillmethanks-
TL;DR: How tall can elves reasonably be based on what we know?
Oh, while I'm at it—and I say this every time I'm here and will continue to do so 'til the cows come home—your blog is a blessing. A wonderful, nice-looking, tidy blessing. The fact you're maintaining all of this is a boon to all of us. Thank you so much for keeping this up! I hope you have a delightful weekend!
Hello! That's really cool! I thought about making a Dungeon Meshi oc based on myself too before (a dunmeshisona?) but then I didn't lmao. Making characters is hard
Anyway I think "how tall can an elf be" is pretty subjective cause even irl humans vary a lot. I think one way to guess would be to do what people tend to do with their ages and compare the average proportions??
Average Male elf is 155 and Average Female Elf is 150 Average Male Tallman is 180 and average Female Tallman is 170
I did some doubtful math and came up with *0,86 for male and *0,88 for female (that's for tallmen height to elf height, if you want to calculate from elf to tallman it would be *1,16 for male and *1,13 for female, both of them you can round up the result)
I don't think that's very correct tho cause using that math on the tallest elves, Lycion who is 170cm and Cithis who is 165cm, it puts him at 197cm and Cithis at 186cm as tallmen that doesn't sound right but maybe it is. (Edit: I got flamela's height wrong she's 140cm I was still asleep I guess, changing it to cithis who IS 165cm I double checked)
It probably doesn't really work cause tallmen average in dungeon meshi is WAY taller than irl human average (google tells me the global average is 171 for men, and the average where I live is even shorter than that) and also cause the height difference between male and female elves is really small, which fits with how androgynous they are in general, there's not much difference between male and females so as a tallmen might be way taller than you'd expect for a woman but for elves Cithis and Lycion being so tall is probably about the same amount of striking.
I ended up rambling but this might help somehow? or just make you even more confused. Anyway I wouldn't worry too much about how tall to make your elf, if I were to make one I'd just make it like a bit taller than average cause that's what I am irl. I'm really bad at explaining math but if you need me to I can try (I tried and ended up making the post double the size and I don't think it made any sense LMAO)
And thanks! I love reading your comments it's very encouraging!

Ughh 😭 I've been searching for like a week and I can't find it - do you/anyone who follows the blog know of the fic where like, Tim is a canine shifter (I can't remember if he was a dog or a wolf) who gets kidnapped and forced to stay in canine form due to a drug? And then batman/the police find him and the other kidnapped shifters but because he can't transform back they keep him in wayne manor for a bit? And then tim doesn't want to shift back because if they see him as a human they'll figure out who his parents are/his parents will get in trouble? It's complete but I have NO idea what it's called 🤭
It doesn't fit your description exactly, but it's one of the only ones that has Tim refusing to shift back.

The pup was so fucking small Jason swore that he could snap his neck with one hand. He froze as Jason spoke and looked up at him with his big blue eyes.
“Still don’t feel like shifting?” He asked as he raked his hand through some of the pup’s muddy matted fur. He was filthy and had gotten Jason’s trousers completely mucky, but he didn’t mind that much, mud was easy to wash out and there were more important things at the front of his mind.
The pup didn’t reply, and didn't try to shift either. Jason sighed and rubbed  the pup’s jaw. The pup hadn’t showed any adverse reactions to touch so far, in fact if the way he had melted in Jason’s hands earlier when he had rubbed his ears was anything to go by it calmed him. But the lack of scent on the pup put him on edge.

how do you even find all this stuff?? i've tried myself and it's genuinely really hard lmao i admire you for archiving stuff that otherwise might be lost
i just saw this ask !! honestly it does take work! my good friend @webdiggerxxx made a post abt how they find images, and my blog is inspired by theirs!! ill repeat some of their tips along with mine!! this mostly applies to flickr btw bc thats where i pull my images from.
set the date of your search term to only show photos up until a certain year! lets say i search for an image and i type in "dolls" i can set flickr to only pull up images before 2010. this helps me find a lot of good accounts and images that will feel truly nostalgic
keep looking!! go down rabbit holes!! if you find an image u like, check out their page, their likes, their albums, followers, and anything else u can! usually when i find a ton of photos i like it ends up being from the same person!! and its so fun and addictive too, i have spent hours looking through 80 pages of someones account and found gems. not only that it feels so personal and cool to learn about someones life through photos, and see it change over the years as they upload.
keep a list of search terms that you want to look up!! this was a tip from @webdiggerxxx and its super helpful!! i often can't think of what to search for, and if you write ideas down when you aren't trying to search it makes it easier
follow people!! even if someone stopped uploading in 2010, its still a good way to keep track of what accounts you like (so you can look later), and because flickr has a feature that brings up images of people you follow first when you type in a search term. so it can show u pictures u havnt seen before! very epic
if you find an image of something you like that you didnt know much about (like for me i learn about a lot of old tech i didnt know about), search that term to find other photos similar!
try to find what terms were used back in the day. for example, mallgoth is a relatively newer term, whereas they were referred to as spooky kids in the 90/2000s (there are better examples). but if you aren't finding images that you want when searching a term, try to figure out if it was called something else! we have so many aesthetics and "cores" of things that are new ways of referring to things happening in the 2000s.
i think thats all my tips 4 now, hope it helps!!

hi, my name is roman. i used to be a semi-popular winteriron blog, but now this blog is mostly dead. so. rip, gone but not forgotten. but i still get some pretty common questions so here's a one-stop shop for most of them as well as links to the important things.
My Tumblr Fic Masterlist
My Ao3
My (dead) WinterIron Discord Server
Did you write the Tony Stark wifi tower fic?
yes, i wrote that fic! it is by far the most popular thing i've ever written and it will probably outlive me.
I found that fic on [insert site here], do they have your permission?
probably not, no. i have found that fic everywhere. and i mean everywhere. pinterest, wattpad, facebook, instagram, tiktok, mediachomp, and so on. honestly, it's been years and i can't control or chase down every single copy and i have no interest in doing so. i don't love that it was stolen from me (especially on for-profit sites) but it just is what it is. it's a fanfic rite of passage to have your stuff stolen, honestly.
can i do a translation/podfic/write something inspired by one of your fics/posts?
yes! there is always a blanket permission to do any sort of transformative work with my work, especially my older stuff. if it sparks joy and creativity in you, run wild with it. i prefer to be credited, but honestly, i'm just happy to see my stuff still inspiring people.
will you ever write winteriron/mcu fanfic again?
well, you should never say never. but in this case, you might want to say never. i have very little interest in winteriron or the mcu in general outside of nostalgia, and i likely will never write anything substantial for them again. it's sad, i miss it too, but i just don't have that spark for marvel these days. mostly i write dc comics fanfiction.
did you write [insert winteriron fic/post here]?
idk. maybe. probably. i wrote and posted a lot of things. you can scroll the tag on this blog to find all my old posts, some more popular than others. if you think it was me, chances are, it probably was. i got around a lot from like 2018 to 2020.
do you have a tagging system?
i used to but lord if i'm going to use it now. i don't even remember it, so your guess is as good as mine. tbh i just use tags as a place to ramble these days so navigating my blog is about as easy for you as it is for me. which is to say, it's not easy at all. because tumblr's search function is ass. i do know one of my old tags has my deadname in it. you'll probably find it if you look hard enough, but that is what it is.
are you going to revive this blog?
probably not consistently, no. if i have something i really want to say here, i'll say it, but i don't have much interest in maintaining this like i used to. i want to be able to, i miss posting here a lot, i just don't think it'll spark joy for me the way it used to, which sucks but that's just the way things go.
why did you leave this blog?
idk. life happened. i was an 18-year-old fighting chronic health conditions and mental health issues that led to me dropping out of high school so, tumblr sort of fell to the back burner, then got forgotten about entirely. eventually, i lost interest in the mcu as i felt the quality of it took a turn for the worst and i went back to dc, which i'm still into. i read some marvel comics, enjoy an occasional mcu project, but largely i just don't have the interest i used to. it sucks and i miss it, this blog probably kept me alive as a teenager. but now it's mostly just an archive of my past, and i'm okay with that.
can i talk to you/send you an ask/befriend you anyway?
sure, if you want, don't know if i'm good company though. but i'm always open to making friends and reminiscing about winteriron, marvel, and all that good stuff. i've gotta warn you though, tumblr fucking eats my DMs on this blog like no fucking business. i'm regularly fighting it. my discord is devilbonesofmetal if you wanna yell at me there, just say you're from tumblr.

CLAWING OUT OF MY GRAVE BECAUSE IT'S FINALLY THURSDAY AND I CAN ANSWER THIS IN PEACE 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 YAYYY RAVENNIS YAP TIME THANK YOU LIEN ILY
(um. tagging you because you sent the ask in my other blog and i think you meant to tag yourself in the ask so @snowpuffclovers )
there are also a few spoilers here though about your guy, and im not sure if you already know/want to get into that but 🙏 just a spoiler warning. also long post warning
okay firstly, esper and the mc are separate characters. he is the mc's colleague :) of a sort. he doesn't have an aether core, he's just immortal because he's from philos 🫶 (he's also a dragon)
esper's evol is pain :) he is capable of inflicting physical pressure and pain on other living things, either to the point of collapse, bleeding, or imploding as if they were experiencing pressure akin to how it is at the very bottom of the ocean. or more than one. he's not picky, it just happens, depending on the effort he puts into it
esper is immortal, by virtue of just being from philos, in addition to being a literal dragon. so he's been living one very long horrible life ever since the sylus myth story (beyond cloudfall) :')
in the original myth, mc is a 'sorceress' who. if i remember correctly. is thrown into the abyss with the fiend (it's sylus! :D) after being caught with a dragon figure? statue? the image of dragons alone is considered blasphemous, so she was branded as a sorceress and tossed away, kind of like how the salem witch trials were like. she finds sylus by chance, pulls out the sword in his chest and accidentally(?) frees him, then makes a deal in exchange for her soul
for esper, i changed a lot of things here. most notably, i wanted him to be aware of his fate as the destined dragonslayer (that extra enemies to lovers flavor has my name written allllll over it yeah). the elders saw his fate in the arrangement of the stars when he was born, so he was raised with the sole purpose of one day killing the fiend
he does still get thrown into the abyss with sylus. however! the reason differs. esper is under too much pressure to commit blasphemous acts lol. his brother though :) is not. so esper finds out his younger brother broke into the forbidden archives, and is trying to study all the ancient knowledge that's been censored and hidden away by the sacred judicator. because esper is literally me, he decides to help him sneak around despite his better judgement. as you can imagine, it doesn't end very well
his brother is caught and executed. but the sacred judicator can't afford to kill esper, since he might be their only chance at eradicating dragons for good. instead, they take him to the abyss and tell him to do just that. do his penance and slay the dragon
so when esper finds sylus, he knows what he has to do. he knows his role in fate. but thinking of his brother, and how his only fault was being too curious for his own good, this is where he decides to change things
they still make the deal, and things go more or less similarly after that. they go on raids, searching for the sacred judicator, totally not learning more about each other and getting endeared by their unlikely companionship nope not at all, they bind souls. like a normal rivalry. obviously, esper gets kidnapped, sylus loses control and kickstarts the end of the world, and then sylus forces esper to kill him so that he doesn't destroy esper as well. like mc, esper turns into a dragon at the very end due to their merged souls
this part isn't clarified in the myth ever though but i like to think esper continues the end of the world after sylus dies as revenge for killing his guy :)
esper goes through a lot more random shit after that. a lot of which isn't super clear because the canon timeline isn't clear either. one of which is the illusion forest that he walks around in for ??? millenia. i have more angst. in these tags hdshkhdfhj i never posted it because i got embarrassed but ig this is a good opportunity
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the other thing is the xavier plotline. the headcanon so far is that by the time esper gets out of the forest, it will be the time xavier left the kingdom with the backtrackers and uh. hid away somewhere hdshfshj yeah they find esper. and so esper was (unofficially) their feral cat. some time after reaching earth, esper separated from them to figure out his own life
and lastly this part isn't really a change, but since i infodumped about backstory i might as well fill in what he's up to now. esper is still a deepspace hunter. but honestly he prefers to spend most of his time at his lighthouse. he's usually deployed on the especially dangerous missions, and is very rarely seen in the building. prior to the plot, he spends most of his days killing wanderers, watching the lighthouse, and guarding over the family that lives there :)

hi hello! I adore the blog, thanks for all the work that you all do !! May you recommend any good multi chapter fics that have a really great plot/storyline? Something not explicit or nsfw. thank you dearly!
Hey! You can check our #plotty and #long fic tags for more recommendations like this. Here are more to add...
something wretched about this by IvyOnTheHolodeck (T)
You might wonder why Aziraphale can't seem to enjoy his retirement in peace. You could ascribe his distress to the series of terrifying thoughts that haunt his days, or the only book he wishes he'd never read, or even the wound that still hurts after six thousand years.
Really, though, you should blame the fact he's never learned to talk about his feelings.
in the study with the lead pipe by paradoxicalpockets (T)
The year is 1845, and Aziraphale, a rare books dealer, would like to retire early. His plans are scuttled when a mysterious letter is dropped on his stoop - a threat of blackmail from one Lord Gabriel, a wealthy American living out in the English countryside. An already tense dinner with 5 other blackmail victims (one of which is the famous actor Anthony J. Crowley) takes a turn for the worse when their host reveals that they are locked in the mansion, the blackmail materials are in the mailbox outside, and the police are set to arrive in 24 hours.
The only way to truly protect your secrets is to send them to the grave. Aziraphale and Crowley must find the front door key and escape...or die trying.
World Enough And Time by Stephquiem (T)
For Aziraphale, there were always two Crowleys: the First Crowley, the one he met in the Garden, the one he's spent 6000 years meeting across human history. And there is the Second Crowley, the one who comes to him across time, again and again, propelled, it would seem, by some unknown tragedy. Both, his hereditary enemy. His dearest friend.
For Crowley, there is a Before, and there is an After. Before, he spent 6000 years as Hell's agent on Earth, seeing Aziraphale occasionally, working together where they could get away with it. After... After, he's drawn back over and over, like he's attached by a tether that just won't let him go.
Not that he wants it to let him go. The alternative...
Binary Star by TriffidsandCuckoos (T)
After abandoning the Earth in the wake of a more environmental apocalypse, humanity has taken to the stars. Crowley stayed behind to restore the Earth; Aziraphale followed the humans into space. After almost two centuries, the latest prophet arrives in Aziraphale’s archive, determined to rectify this.
So Much Discounted by WanderingAlice (T)
After asking Aziraphale a strange question, Crowley disappears. Can Aziraphale work out what happened to him? And more importantly, can he save him before it's too late?
---
“No.” Aziraphale sat up, throwing his senses wide, searching, seeking, all the way to the edges of the world. “Crowley!” His frantic cry, amplified by his angelic power, rippled through the minds of every being with even the slightest occult sensitivity. Miles away, Anathema sat up in bed, and reached in panic for her lover when she felt the new absence in the world. Down the street from Jasmine Cottage, Adam Young tumbled from his covers, reaching out himself with what remained of his power. What he found was so terrible he fled from it, running to climb into bed with his parents like he hadn’t since he’d been very small.
“No,” the angel said again, his voice small and lost amid the stacks of lonely books. “No.” He pushed himself up with trembling hands, climbed to his feet, and didn’t stop running until he stood outside the door to Crowley’s Mayfair flat.
stalwart sun, wily moon by dustnhalos (M)
Anthony J. Crowley is a world-class art thief with a complicated past who, until now, had been pretty content with going through life as part of a prolific black market art trafficking ring. He enjoyed the thrill and danger of the hunt, especially if it meant he got to travel the world, play with state-of-the-art technology, and make enough money to afford anything he could ever want.
That is, until a simple logistical hiccup leads him straight into the path of one Aziraphale Fell, former Head Conservator of the British Museum turned antique repair shop owner.
Suddenly, there's a space in Crowley's life that only Aziraphale seems to fill, but his clandestine life of crime paired with Aziraphale's industry connections and indomitable penchant for good seems like a relationship doomed to fail.
Little do they both know, the strands of friendship, morality, and deception in their shared circles of the London art world are interwoven in even more complex ways than either of them could have expected...

Hey Source Librarian! This is less of a request and more of a help call. So, hopefully you've heard of DCreate? It was Disney's deviantart back in the day and I adored the art of this one person on there sooo much. It was kinda formative for me, tbh. I don't have any of their art (DCreate is long gone and so are the devices that could've had any saved pictures of theirs), but I'm really hoping you can point me to a group or blog or resource or something that can help me find them. I remember them making fanart of the anime Ginga Densetsu Weed and having a feral canine sona, and their name was "bordercollie" and then a couple or three numbers, one of which I'm fairly sure was a 7. I also open this to anyone else reading who may know who I'm talking about. No worries if you have no idea, I'm mainly just looking for more direction to go in besides aimlessly giving Google search terms and praying. Thank you much! (Also, I just recently found your blog like a few days ago and am already in love with the work you do. You rock! 💜)
Hi, thank you very much!
I can't say I've heard of it, nor that I know of any archival efforts for it in particular. But I do have my tricks, so let's see if they can be of use to you.
The Wayback Machine has archived "disney.go.com/create" several times—picking one of those, I can take a look at the structure those pages used to have.
For starters, the thumbnail and profile pages have very convenient URL formats: http://n7ugc.disney.go.com/item/[USER] and http://disney.go.com/create/artists/[USER] respectively.
Using "bordercollie" in the prefix search, I can find 3 archived profile pages that match this query. Based on your description, I'm hoping the one you're looking for is "bordercollie166".
If so, that's your lucky break: there are a couple of snapshots of bordercollie166's page. Using the prefix search on the thumbnail URL, I can also see 193 archived images for that user.
Although, it appears that the full-size images cannot be viewed correctly—some Flash player shenanigans—but still, I hope that helps!

a guide to dnfao3tags!
hello there :] i'm kay, the admin of this blog. i've been running this blog from april 29 2022 when i made my dnf starter pack post for all those new to dnf fics. since then, i've made more than 700 posts and have added many features to my blog.
here's a little guide to everything and anything dnfao3tags!
(highly recommend checking my blog out on a pc, a lot more features are easily visible that way)
new to dnf?
as mentioned above, i have a starter pack; along with that i'd like to recommend :
my personal favs
my tag navigation page so you can easily find fics according to your wishes
i also have a masterpost of a significant number of fics i've recommended on this blog, however i don't often update it so its a little useless
every month (or whenever im free), i try to make a monthly fic roundup which i post in the first week of the new month; stay tuned for that
my trope wise reclists
spotlight fic recs from my bookmarks (dnfao3tags bookmarks)
all of my fic rec posts (dnfao3tags recs) - including reclists, spotlight fic recs, fic was founds, etc
posts made by authors themselves for their own fics (author post)
fic recs made by writers themselves (author recs)
there's also a dnf ship wiki surprisingly which might be useful if you want to get familiar with them
if you're confused about any references or something, feel free to send me an ask and hopefully me or my followers can help.
'can i help you?'
absolutely! while i don't accept any more mod/admins on this blog, you can still do the following :
rec/submit a fic (self-promo encouraged)
send me a quote you liked from a fic and view some dnf fic quotes here
here are a bunch of fic not founds that unfortunately were never found. take a look and see if you recognise any!
you can also send me fics to submit in the monthly fic roundup
sometimes i can't find fics for certain tropes so i crowdsource; check if know any fics for that particular trope and send them in
send some fic ideas you have!
deleted fics
i already made a guide to how i deal with deleted fics on this blog.
my Finding Deleted Fics: A Multi-Method Guide post.
if you're an author and would like me to take down your fics then send me a dm and i'll happily do it. if you'd like, i could also only share them in dms too.
fic not found
feel free to ask about any lost fics and i'll see if me or my followers can recognize it. please please Please be as specific as possible and also mention if you think it may be deleted.
i will post your ask asking my followers if i don't recognize it and if someone helps me out, i'll reblog your ask with the found fic so just keep checking the reblogs or the tags fic was found & fic potentially found.
searching my blog
if you open my blog on pc then you'll see one search bar in the header:
Tumblr media
and one like this below the updates box:
Tumblr media
the google enhanced search box is more accurate so i recommend using that one ! however, it is definitely not foolproof so i also recommend using my tagnav to search for a specific post because i tag pretty much everything. you can also send me an ask.
cool features
i have a music player ! you can send in songs for me to add to it
any tips and tricks i have for ao3 will be in this how to ao3 tag
want some writing inspo? here are some fic ideas
you can also ask me for song based reqs
i also have author archives for anonymous authors (eg. mario anon), deleted authors and orphaned authors
click this for a random post of mine
more stuff
i have a twitter (though i am inactive there)
please read my about/faq page before sending asks
i have a tag for any posts that aren't specifically fic recs and just me talking (kay talks) which you can mute if you aren't interested
occasionally i get asks about dreamnotnap which i sometimes answer; you can also mute that tag along with my not dnf tag
and that's all i can currently think of!
i'm thinking of adhering to a posting schedule so i might post about that later. i'm a bit more free these days so i'll probably be a bit more quick to asks.
hope this helped you guys out; thanks for reading :]

Magnificently Cursed... the blog post ✨
🕰🍂🕯🌿📔🧣🌙
My writing log says it’s been exactly a year since I started writing Magnificently Cursed, my Dark Academia Inuokko Magic School AU! I find summer to be insufferable (my apologies to the sun) so I took an escape hatch to an early fall last year and immediately fell down this massive rabbit hole. Not only did I write the whole fic and make overly-intricate graphics for each chapter… I also made a ton of other content that I simply didn’t have enough time to post! (Fall is but one season… unless you’re me, and it’s two, because fuck summer) So as a little anniversary gift to me, I’m going back through the archives and finally putting everything in one place.
Let’s start with the character mood boards, shall we?
Toge Inumaki:
Tumblr media
I wanted Toge to have an earthy/natural, vintage-y feel, while Yuuta was all sleek and new. I’m still completely obsessed with this library-lizard aesthetic for Toge.
I low-key wound up buying a brown sweater after searching online for literal hours just like the one in the upper left so we could twin. That duffle coat still has my whole heart. Lavender mug inspired by Neara 🥺
Yuuta Okkotsu:
Tumblr media
The lil ghostie patch 😭 I still think Yuuta would look hot as hell in all these clothes- especially the speckle-y fisherman sweater. Coat game is strong here as well.
... so is it obvious that I spend too much time on Canva yet? 😅
The Timeline:
Tumblr media
My outline wasn’t outlining and I resorted to making an in-world calendar to make sure the dates were realistic. Each chapter is a different color, and the lines represent what days the chapters covered in-world. The corresponding stars represented each chapter’s posting dates… except the real life dates didn’t line up with the fictional dates (rude), so those thursdays were actually saturdays? I think? I'm actually not 100% sure what past me was up to here, to be totally honest 😅
(also, politely ignore that bit that says “epilogue - december” 💀i’ll get to it when i get to it. I don’t really like the idea of it being *over* so maybe i'll just gatekeep that bit forever)
Tumblr media
⬆️ Example of aforementioned “outlining,” which, yes, is unfortunately littered with as many potential tweets as actual organization 💀
Not pictured: the outline for the first three chapters… when i thought this fic… would only *be* three chapters. 🪦
Writing Log:
Tumblr media
I wrote all 92k between July 13th and September 13th (including 60k in August, nanowrimo style)!
Honestly would love to know what her regimen was because i immediately went back to being slow and undisciplined. I don’t foresee this coming august looking anything like this, lol.
Also, sidenote, hilarious that I took a break to work on it would make a whole in the middle of this? Because I literally just finished that piece this week and posted it today 😅
The Playlist:
Tumblr media
Spotify proving that July 13th commitment! If you start a wip without procrastinating and making a playlist for two hours first... did you really start a new wip?
The playlist was three and a half hours and i would listen to it nearly every day, sometimes multiple times in a day 💀. Listen during a rainstorm for peak vibes.
(other favs not pictured: The Butterflly Effect’s cover of “Lay All Your Love on Me,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Decode,” Liz Longley’s “Rescue My Heart,” and "Nothing's Gonna Happen" by The Staves)
Bonus:
Tumblr media
(fall baking... toge's fav pumpkin muffins of course)
Tumblr media
(my toge sweater knockoff)
Tumblr media
(editing buddy... clearly working very hard)
Tumblr media
(cider donut cider... for the ✨vibes✨)
Tumblr media
(obsessively drinking massive pots of harney and son’s victorian london fog tea as i tried to interpret my own bullshit)
Tumblr media
(me celebrating actual halloween like i didn't start in july)
.... ANYWAY (if you made it this far 😅) many thanks to anyone who read/kudos/commented/supported this fic, because (if you can't tell already) i had so much fun writing it.
Currently, working on another longfic rn that's also promising to destroy my life... but you never forget your first 😘

Important Fandom Interest Check Poll!
Please vote and share around if you would be interested in a Genshin fic rec archive blog!
The basic idea would be an archive of posts linking to tumblr or ao3 fics of extremely high quality. It would make it easier to find older fics that are finished but don't have the high kudos to come up when you search by most kudos. The categories would be based on main ship or gen and the ship tag would only have fics with that ship in it. All fics would be read by me or a second mod before being added to the archive and they don't have to be complete before being added.
I am just trying to see if there is any interest in this type of blog. If the no's seem to be a lot or the number of votes is small all together. I won't sink time into coding a tumblr blog template.
If you are interested please consider reblogging so your genshin friends can also vote!
More about how this might work under the read more.
I would have submissions open and you would be free to submit your own fics along with others. I just can't guarantee I'd put it on the blog. I'd have final say to veto any fic submission. But the main reason would probably be needless smut.
Yes I am aware the idea of a genshin fic archive sounds redundant. Check marking only your ship on AO3 never gives you 20 oneshot compilation fics with other ships before the first solo fic or anything. The whole point is to make it so you don't have to scroll through countless not great fics that just happen to include your ship in the tags. And again to help older fics not get lost in the pile.
Genshin gets 100s of fics posted per day on AO3. It's not easy to sort through all of it. The blog is meant to make that easier. Also Tumblr fics. Those get lost to the void of character/reader what if posts never to be seen again.
Even if nsfw fics are included fics that are 50%-100% smut won't be included. I just can't read through that much porn personally. Including 18+ would just mean slow burns with countless chapters of character build up before one smut chapter wouldn't automatically be excluded. They would still be tagged and stored separately from other fics in that ships category.
Kaeyluc will be excluded by default. Along with any smut fics including child characters and rape/noncon. Also Porn without plot like mentioned above.
Quality would not be judged by kudos or any other metric. I even plan to allow fics with questionable spelling and grammar to an extent. If your story is moving or does something interesting with the characters involved. Then I don't care if you mix up your there, their, and they're. I don't want to exclude non-native english speakers from this list. The fic just needs to be readable.
Most ship fics would probably be mlm or wlw. There is just a larger quantity of those in general on ao3. I don't mind including lumineXchilde or LumineXdainsleif. But any other het ships will probably be reliant on submissions to be found and added.
But none of this is set in stone except for what I would be excluding. Tho that list might get longer. This is all just the basic idea and any suggestions on how to make it better are greatly appreciated!
