please put a lil nutmeg in ur sugar cookies yum yummy
#amax antics#i am working on a sugar cookie recipe and right now testing out little alterations#i have made (eaten) three batches of sugar cookies in three days#if anyones wondering an all-butter cookie with baking powder AND soda gets you the best soft cookie but they don't spread much#adding a bit of corn syrup makes it chewier and stays moister longer but at the expense of a slight corn syrup aftertaste#vanilla and almond extract and nutmeg are the winners flavor wise#still going to test with a bit of lemon zest/juice but I'm not sure how the addition of acid will react with the baking soda#if it'll make it too fluffy or if the little bit of extra liquid will give it a bit more spread

a damned good chocolate chip cookie
ingredients:
12 oz all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp kosher salt (not table, that’s all wrong for this)
cinnamon to taste
dash of nutmeg
1 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
1 cup brown butter, softened to room temperature
2 eggs, room temperature
1 cup toasted walnuts
1 cup chopped chocolate
the method (which is BY FAR worth the effort):
first, toast the walnuts and let them cool. how much walnuts? measure with your heart. my heart says one cup. chop them up big and small and set aside. (don't know how to toast walnuts? put them on a baking tray, stick them in the oven at 400F for three minutes. take them out and give them a good toss and put them back in for three more minutes. that's it. keep an eye on them in case your oven runs too hot. nobody wants burned walnuts)
second, chop up some good 60-70% chocolate bars. splurge on guittard or ghiradelli. don't do nestle. fuck nestle. they're bad. i mean, the chocolate tastes fine, but the people behind the company are terrible. so fuck nestle. chop about a cup of hopefully morally superior chocolate into little slivers and big chunks, the variety is good. want more chocolate? do it. (sometimes I’ll also use chocolate discs or chips to vary the final look of the cookie because why not?)
next!
get onto the brown butter. don't know how to do it? watch and learn
okay, got that? cool. brown the butter. let it resolidify before you keep going. sometimes i prep it a day or so in advance.
blend the butter and sugar until that stuff is whipped. turn it pale and fluffy and gorgeous with little brown specks. takes you more than 5 minutes to get there? awesome. makes it even better.
Look at how fluffy!
(if you use melted brown butter at this step, i don't know what will become of you, because i only did that once with messy results. go with god if you choose to make that decision, but i won't take any responsibility for it. also, having a stand mixer would help here, but handheld won't hurt you)
is it fluffy and beautiful? excellent.
add the two eggs one at a time, whip it really well. great, that part is done.
dry ingredients:
whisk them together. that’s pretty much it.
the dough:
add the dry ingredients to the wet. in two or three separate batches, mixing slowly, that's a good approach.
add your mix ins. i hope you toasted the walnuts. infinitely better that way. my apologies to those with nut allergies.
once it barely comes together (even if it's a little crumbly), stop.
the next important bit, the really, really important bit, is:
rest.
the.
dough.
some will say for an hour in the fridge, i say overnight. at least 6-8 hours. i've eaten stuff just after mixing the dough or waiting the single hour and it's just not the same.
(little tip: i smush the dough into a quarter sheet baking tray and wrap it with plastic before putting it in the fridge; this step takes care of the crumbly bits and then i just cut it into little squares when i'm ready to bake. round off the squares between your palms and it comes out pretty well)
(Like this!)
bake at 350F for 14-16 minutes, depending on your preference of doneness
there you have it. the best chocolate chip (walnut) cookies i've ever made.
#chocolate chip cookie recipe#mine#it's gone through years of tweaking#it used to have two whole cups of sugar before someone told me to rein in my rampant american overindulgence and they were completely right#please share if you tried the recipe out because i'm so proud of what i came up with and it makes me so happy to see others enjoy it too#got tweaks to add?#i'm all ears!#if i'm wrong about the melted butter i'm willing to hear it#tumblr just informed me that i broke 100 posts with this one#this feels right for my life#these are good choices

“Cookie Monster” | Astrid x Raymond
While Halloween was Astrid’s favorite holiday, Ray’s was Christmas. It was the one time of year where he could go all out with decorations and let his perfectionism control him and Astrid would let it slide. The tree would shine as bright as the sun, the gift wrapping was absolutely perfect, and the decorations on the porch put everyone else to shame.
Meanwhile, Astrid baked her famous soft sugar cookies, with homemade frosting and designs that made Enniss giggle to himself. Ray was an addict and an absolute fiend, he was referred to as the ‘Cookie Monster’ by everyone in the house–no cookie was safe, Astrid had to hide batches under lock and key.
This year was no different, Astrid perfected the first batch of cookies and would look around periodically for Ray but he was nowhere in sight. Enniss was watching his cartoons while Annie was sitting on her play mat, and everything was calm in the Smith household.
However, a large hand came out of nowhere and snatched a cookie from the plate, and Astrid turned to her left to see Ray having come up behind her to steal a cookie. “And so it begins…” she mutters to herself while Ray takes another cookie before fleeing the kitchen.
As the days went on, the stockpile of cookies grew and were separated appropriately: Two plates for Enniss’ daycare, one plate for Dad, Three for Mickey and Ros, and a box for Celeste and Bunny. The baker tried to remain vigilant in keeping them all away from her husband, but Ray was a sneaky bastard and would steal from every batch individually…
“It wasn’t me! I swear!” Ray insisted.
“Raymond, I can see the crumbs in your beard!”
Ray huffed, “It’s from my lunch!
“Which was a couple of cookies?”
“Star! I swear to you! I haven’t been taking the cookies!...it must have been Enniss!” Ray argued, turning against his eldest.
Enniss pouted as he looked at his mother, “Mummy! I didn’t eat them, I swear!” he said, almost about to cry from the accusation.
Astrid frowned while looking down at Enniss, “I know you didn’t Bun, why don’t you go play!” she said, watching Enniss practically run out of the room while she stared down her husband. “I can’t believe you’d sell your son out for some cookies!”
“Perhaps Antoinette?” Ray offered.
Astrid raised her finger and pointed at Ray, “Don’t you dare! She can barely eat an Animal Cracker, let alone a whole sugar cookie. Don’t lie to me, Raymond! I know it was you!” she hissed before backing out of the room to go hide the cookies from her husband again.
It didn’t help, Ray was relentless in his hunt for cookies, eating an entire plate meant for Enniss’ daycare; he didn’t even care that he got caught.
“Are you fucking serious? Raymond!” she yelled out while storming towards her husband who held the plate close to his chest while taking another bite.
“You’ll have to pry them from my cold dead hands!” Ray insisted.
Astrid didn’t flinch, grabbing the plate from Ray and storming out of the room with the remaining cookies to try and salvage them to make sure they did make it to the daycare. Astrid eventually made a new batch of cookies with a gingerbread man cookie cutter and designed them to look like Ray, glasses, tie, and all with his eyes as X’s.
It was a threat, as she presented them to her husband with a smirk on her face, but Ray smirked back while taking a cookie and biting its head off before walking away. Astrid was impressed, but also frustrated and hoped that the cookies would keep him at bay…
They lasted 8 hours.
She went out with Celeste, leaving Raymond alone with the children to vent about the cookie war, as well as other holiday time stresses.
“I honestly don’t know where he puts it all! He’s eaten at least 4 pounds worth of sugar cookies in two weeks! I can’t keep up with him! And poor Enniss lost an entire plate of cookies to the man! I’m about ready to kill him!” Astrid complained before taking a sip of her wine.
Celeste smirked, “Have you tried just…not baking cookies?” she offered.
Astrid frowned at her friend, “Well, I don’t want anybody to suffer…” she muttered.
Celeste sighed, “Look, babe, if the cookies are causing this much of a problem for you, and Ray should probably go see someone about his cookie addiction, then just stop baking! Like you said, you’ve got enough going on with present shopping and running the bakery, just let the cookies go!” she said.
Astrid groaned, knowing that her friend was right but her love of baking during the holidays was causing her more heartache than anything. “Or maybe just different coo–”
“I said stop baking.” Celeste said, side eyeing her friend while taking a sip of her drink, “You already do enough baking at work! Don’t bring it home! Get a hobby, Astrid, seriously!” she told her.
She huffed, “Okay, fine…I’ll get a ‘hobby’.” Astrid hissed.
“Don’t get smart with me. Just…” Celeste sighed, “Astrid, you do too much sometimes, and you should be having a wonderful holiday, not worrying about your husband eating all your sugar cookies…which should be the point of making cookies.” she continued while looking around at the people in the pub, “I know you love baking, but just rest…just a little bit?”
Astrid nodded, “Okay, fine…no more cookies…” she said while taking another sip of wine, “How about knitting?” she joked.
Celeste laughed.
She returned home to silence, the children were off to bed and the lights in the living room and kitchen were dimmed; she could smell vanilla and cinnamon as well as hear someone shuffling about. Astrid walked into the kitchen to see Ray alone in the kitchen, with a piping bag in his hands.
Astrid squinted her eyes at him, “What are you doing?” she asked while slowly approaching.
“Making cookies,” he muttered, looking back down to his cookie and carefully icing it.
She stood next to him and watched as he slowly and carefully outlined the design of the cookie he was working on before the line of frosting got stuck, and ruined the perfect line.
“Fuck,” Ray muttered under his breath, pausing his motion.
Astrid let a soft smile out, “Here, let me…” she said while taking the piping and corrected his mistake effortlessly. “It’s all in the wrist, and speed…you can’t let gravity get to it before you do.” she explained before handing the piping bag back to him.
Ray nodded, putting the bag down and looked at his wife who seemed distant as he reached out and stroked her hair, “So how was drinks with Celeste?” he asked gently.
She nodded, “Good, good…after much deliberation, I have decided that I am not making any more cookies for the rest of the season.” she said before looking at the cookies on the island counter, “But it seems the household doesn’t need to worry about a cookie shortage…” she muttered.
“Yeah, um…” Ray trailed off before blinking hard and adjusting his glasses, “Enniss read me the right act, he was very firm with me…about eating all the cookies…” he said.
Astrid chuckled, “Did he now?”
Ray nodded, “He said: ‘Mummy works very hard on these cookies, and when you eat them all, you’re being mean to Mummy…’” Ray recited.
She laughed, adjusting her hair while crossing her arms at her husband, “What a very wise thing for a little boy to say.” she muttered.
“That’s what I thought. So I figured I would replenish the stock and also tell you that I’m sorry.” Ray said, “I’m sorry that I did not stop eating the cookies when you asked me to, I’m sorry that I used Enniss as a scapegoat, and I’m sorry that I caused you so much stress this holiday season by being a selfish cunt.”
Astrid hummed, squinting her eyes at her husband before sighing to herself and nodded “Apology accepted. But…did you apologize to Enniss?”
“I did,” Ray smiled, “But he said he wouldn’t forgive me until I apologised to you.”
She laughed out loud, covering her mouth to stifle the noise before finally composing herself and looked at her husband, “Enniss Keane!!” she muttered to herself.
They looked at each other, Ray stared at her longingly before slowly leaning in to kiss his wife and he tasted the several glasses of wine, and Astrid gently kissed him before Ray pulled away and stroked her cheek.
“Why don’t you get ready to bed and I’ll finish icing these cookies, my Star?” Ray offered.
Astrid smiled gently, “Okay…”
“I love you…” Ray said.
“I love you too, Raymond.” Astrid said before slipping away from his grasp and left the kitchen.
Ray looked down at the cookies, knowing damn well that none of them would look pretty like Astrid’s, and also knew that he would be up for a long while–but he was determined to finish them all, to rectify the damage he had done for the past few weeks.

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies Oh man, these are so good! I just made a batch of dough last night and I’ve already eaten 7 cookies! They definitely elevate the traditional chocolate chip cookie with the browning of the butter. If you would like some, you can order them frozen from $0.75/cookie or baked for $1/cookie. I have these in the freezer, so they’re ready to go, but if they’re something else you would like to order on my page or would like to make a custom order, please put in these requests at least three days ahead of time. However, if you want to make this on your own, here is the recipe: Ingredients: 2 ½ sticks butter (375 g) 2 cups flour 1 tablespoon cornflour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup caster or white sugar 1 egg & 2 egg yolks 2 tablespoons vanilla 2 cups chocolate (I did a mixture of 1 cup dark chocolate chips and 2 bars of Lindt Chocolate – one milk one dark) Instructions: 1. Start by browning the butter in a pan. Once brown, move to a bowl to allow it to cool completely. 2. Mix flour, cornflour, and baking soda into a bowl. Set side. 3. Cream together sugars and cooled brown butter. Add it eggs and egg yolks. 4. Mix in flour mixture, be careful not to overmix. 5. Mix in vanilla and chocolate. 6. Portion out dough into tablespoons and freeze until hard. You can then either store it bake at 160 C (320 F) for 8-12 minutes.

Apparently I have been in a baking mood lately because I have made two batches of cookies in three days. This is also because I have been craving cookies but my family devours them. That batch I made Monday has already been eaten. Mom can’t eat them cause she can’t have gluten. This means that the 51 sugar cookies I made on Monday were eaten by four people in the course of two days. More like one because I made them at night and they were all gone this morning.
#i plan on making my mom some peanut butter cookies tomorrow#she has an entire gluten free apple pie to herself#she’s not too upset about not having cookies because of that

Baking Cookies
All Brothers x gn!MC
Format - Scenarios / Headcanons
Words - 2633
Content warnings - tooth-rotting fluff, some implied sexual activity (nothing explicitly stated or described)
Prompt/Inspiration - MC bakes cookies for Mammon, AO3 request
Summary - You spend the day baking cookies and spending some quality time with your favorite demon.
AO3
Scene -
Baking was perhaps one of your favorite hobbies. For special occasions you always whipped something up for your friends and family. And everyone could always count on you to bring oodles of cookies to holiday parties.
Since being in the Devildom, however, you haven’t been able to bake anything and you were sorely missing your hobby. Finally you decided to ask Lucifer about it and he arranged to have some human realm ingredients and kitchen appliances brought in for you.
While you were getting things set up in the kitchen, you suddenly felt some arms wrap around you from behind. When you turned to see who it was you saw….
Lucifer
He pressed a kiss to your temple when you turned to look at him, smiling warmly at you
He had come to check in on things and make sure that everything had arrived in working order
You thank him for his thoughtfulness, pecking him on the cheek in return
He wants to know what you plan on making, so you tell him about your favorite cookie recipe
He gives you another kiss to your head, and then says he has to go finish some RAD related things
But he asks that you bring him a cookie when they are done
And promises to come check on you later if he gets the chance
After spending most of the day in the kitchen, you finally have all your cookies on cooling racks
You realize then that no one else has bothered you all day
The fact that Beel never made an appearance strikes you as especially odd. You had even made extra so you could make sure you still had enough for everyone else if he popped in for a snack.
Hesitant to leave your cookies unattended, you text Lucifer and tell him that you’re done and voice your concerns
He explains he had placed a small spell on the door to keep the scent of your baking contained, so your cookies will be perfectly safe for the time it takes for you to bring him a couple yourself
When you arrive in his study, he’s still working diligently, but pauses briefly when you enter to call you over to his lap
Not wanting to stop working, he asks that you give him a bite
You of course give him what he wants, and assuming he’s trying to embarrass you, make sure to maintain eye contact with him the whole time
This results in a rare blushy Lucifer moment 😍
You take a bite of the same cookie, and he comments that there is some chocolate on your lips (there isn’t)
When you go to wipe it away, he stops your hand and kisses your lips
“Here, let me get that for you.”
After he pulls away, you smirk at him and inform him he has some chocolate on his own mouth
Needless to say, he isn’t getting much work accomplished after that
And it’s entirely possible that the rest of your cookies get discovered (and consumed) while you are...busy
Mammon
He’s very curious about what you’re up to
Wants to know if he can help, he’s kinda excited about the idea of making cookies from scratch
You tell him he can stay, but he has to listen to you exactly
He agrees “Of ‘course I can handle some bakin’. How hard can it be?”
Poor, sweet summer child
To his credit, he tries, he really does
But you finally have to stick him on “fetching detail” because of the utter chaos that results when he does anything else
There is flour everywhere, vanilla extract and other liquids are spilled on the counters, he’s probably dropped a few eggs too
By the time you get the first batch in the oven, you’re pretty worn out. It reminds you of baking with a small child, honestly.
You look up at Mammon, and he doesn’t seem to be having as much fun as you would have thought
He’s noticed the mess all over the kitchen, and starts to feel self conscious about how much trouble he’s caused
But you know the best way to distract him...is by teasing him
Hopping up on the counter next to the mixing bowl, you call him over so that he’s standing between your legs. He wraps his arms around your middle and rests his head on your shoulder
You return his hug, kissing his cheek, and thanking him for the help
“I couldn’t have done it without The Great Mammon.”
You then ask him if he knows what the best part of making cookies is
He lifts his head up to look at you, curious and feeling a tiny bit better
You then scoop some cookie dough out of the bowl with your finger, and act like you’re about to offer it to him, only to put it in your own mouth instead
He blushes. Hard. Which makes you smile
You go to do it again, and this time he catches your wrist and...helps himself to the cookie dough
After that, there is a lot of laughter and giggling that can be heard from the kitchen
In the end, you only manage to make a single batch of cookies, but you wouldn’t have had it work out any other way
Leviathan
He’s resting his head on your shoulder so you can’t see his face, so you give him a quick peck on the top of his head
You honestly hadn’t expected for Levi to join you, you knew he could bake too, but he had said he was busy today with whatever otaku stuff he does when you’re not there
He mumbles something about being bored and lonely, so you ask him if he wants to help and immediately perks up and agrees
You two make a great team, and manage to get things done in record time
You and Levi sit on the ground next to each other, backs against the cabinets, playing mobile games together, while the cookies are baking and cooling
The cookies you had decided to make were sugar cookies, thinking that Levi would get a kick out of decorating them
And you would be right
You’re amazed at the level of details he’s able to draw with royal icing. They’re almost too cute to eat
He’s a mixture of proud and embarrassed as you compliment him on his cookie decorating skills
You take lots of pictures so you can post on Devilgram and brag to everyone about your amazing boyfriend
Asmodeus is probably the first one to see your posts about the cookies and he hurries to the kitchen to see them himself
Cue another round of bragging about your boyfriend and his cookie decorating skills
Poor boy is getting pretty embarrassed now, especially since he can hear the rest of his brothers coming down the hall to see what all the fuss is about
So you gather up a plate of your favorites and make a hasty retreat with Levi to his bedroom, locking the door behind you
You climb into his tub with him, sitting between his legs and reclining onto his chest, with one of his arms around your waist
He puts on some movie that he knows you both enjoy, and you eat your cookies together while relaxing
When the movie is over (and the cookies all eaten), he hugs you close and hides his face in the crook of your neck
He tells you he’s had a lot of fun today, and that it was worth missing his gaming live streams for
And that’s probably like the sweetest damn thing he’s ever said to you 💗
Satan
He immediately asks you if he can help
He loves learning, so baking with you seems like a great way to pick up a new skill
He makes for a really great helper: follows directions to a T, asks plenty of questions, precise in his measurements
He’s also really good at keeping the kitchen neat and orderly
As you prepare to put the last batch of cookies in the oven, you watch Satan start cleaning up and wonder why his room is such a mess if he can be so meticulous in other areas
Once the cookies are in the oven, you begin to help Satan tidy up
Until…
You stumble a bit and Satan catches you
But...you had been carrying a bag of flour
Now...you are not carrying a bag of flour
Satan is covered in a POOF of white and you immediately start apologizing and trying to clean him off (while trying desperately not to laugh because honestly he looks pretty ridiculous)
He picks the bag of flour up off the flour, without saying a word, then looks at you, and then the bag, and then back at you before smirking
You start to get a very bad feeling about this
Before you can even blink, Satan has grabbed a handful of flour and tossed it right in your face
A food fight of epic proportions ensues
It does not stop until Lucifer can be heard stomping down the halls
“MAMMON what have I….”
Lucifer freezes when he enters the kitchen
You and Satan also freeze
And the three of you just stare at each other
“What is going on here…?” Lucifer finally asks
“Baking cookies…?” you reply
“...baking cookies…”
Lucifer then turns and leaves as quickly as he came. He does not have the time to deal with this. And it’s you who is at fault here. He’s not even sure what he’s supposed to do. Yell? Hang you from the rafters? He decides that’s a problem for….later.
You and Satan burst out laughing as soon as Lucifer is gone
A few sweet kisses are exchanged before you decide to actually clean up
Once the cookies are out of the oven and cooling, Satan invites you to his room for a much needed shower
“Only if you’re comfortable with it, of course.”
And you are very much comfortable with it
Asmodeus
He’s come to check on you and see what all your excitement from earlier had been about
You explain about the cookie recipe you were going to be working on and ask if he wants to join you
He’s more than happy to help you, and was actually hoping you’d ask
He then presents you with a set of matching aprons to wear while you work, one for him and one for you
Asmo is a pretty good helper overall, but he’s very playful too
Lots of chocolate flavored kisses, cookie dough sampling, and pats on the ass
(You’ll probably have flour handprints on your ass, make sure to give him a matching set though)
It takes a little bit longer than normal for you to finish all you had planned, but you don’t mind. You really enjoyed having Asmo there to keep you company
While you start cleaning up, Asmo says he’s going to draw a bath for you so you can get cleaned off and relax
You make sure to grab a small plate of cookies to take with you, sorting the rest into pre-portioned and labeled boxes for the others to help themselves to
When you’re done, you join him in his room and are greeted by the most divine, relaxing scent you’ve ever experienced
Asmo emerges from the bathroom, wrapped in a robe and quickly helps you undress
The two of you slip into the tub together, with you sitting between his legs as he massages your shoulders, and your scalp while he washes your hair
You didn’t realize how tense your muscles had been from hunching over the kitchen counters all day, but he makes quick work of all the knots and kinks and soon you’re feeling much better
You then swap positions so you can pamper your favorite demon as well, he of course can’t resist making all sorts of exaggerated lewd sounds while you wash his hair, which leaves you giggling/chuckling
When you’re done, he leans back against you and you drape your arms over his shoulders and around his neck, just holding him close and enjoying the soothing warmth of the water
After the bath, the two of you curl up together in his bed, taking turns feeding each other the cookies you had set aside, smiling and flirting, exchanging lots of sweet kisses
The Attic Club Sandwich (Beelzebub / Belphegor)
It’s Belphie who has his arms wrapped around you, resting his chin on your shoulder
Since Beel had sports practice today, you decided it would be the perfect opportunity to bake him some cookies as a surprise
Belphie is there to...supervise
He spends most of your baking spree clinging to you or hanging off you in some form
But he does help out occasionally when you ask him to hand you things or put stuff in the oven
You catch him sneaking chunks of cookie dough, “for quality control purposes” he says
You let it go since you’ve already planned on baking a rather large quantity to make sure Beel would get enough to satisfy himself
With the last of the cookies in the oven, you start to clean up and Belphie hoists himself on top of the counter next to the mixing bowl, helping himself to any leftover remnants of cookie dough he can scrape off
Insists he’s helping by “cleaning the dishes”
As you wait for the final batch to cool, you spend some time just cuddling your beloved bratty demon, standing in between his legs while he buries his face in the crook of your neck and holds you close
Beel arrives home around then and heads straight for the kitchen to find out what smells so good
His face lights up when he sees you and Belphie
You see Beel and greet him with a smile, walking over to give him a sample cookie
He lets you feed it to him, blushing like the adorable teddy bear he is
Satisfied that your cookies have been Beel Approved™️, you send Beel away to shower, exchanging a quick peck before he goes, and letting him know y’all will be waiting in the bedroom with the rest of the cookies when he’s done
Happy boi hurries off to take the quickest shower of his life, and you and Belphie head to the twins room
Belphie decides he can be a bit helpful and agrees to carry the rather large box of cookies for you
Which leaves your hands free to loop through his arm and walk with him
While you wait for Beel, you sit in Belphie’s bed and he snuggles up against you, his head resting on your lap and his arms wrapped around your legs
Says he doesn’t need any cookies since he ate enough while helping(?) you
He falls asleep almost instantly, baking(?) cookies is a lot of work for him
It doesn’t take long for Beel to finish washing up and join you on the bed, wearing some comfy lounge pants, wrapping his arm around your shoulders
He lets you feed him cookies for awhile, exchanging lots of sweet chocolate chip flavored kisses in between
He’s so happy and thankful that you thought of him today and prepared something special just for him, you make sure to tell him Belphie helped too and his smile gets even broader
When you start to feel tired, you rest your head on his shoulder and he polishes off the rest of the cookies on his own
Beel then presses a kiss to the top of your head, before snuggling closer to you, hugging you tight
Feeling warm, relaxed, and secure, you drift off to sleep between your two favorite demons

Hi, I love your writing. I really want to make a request where the readers have eating disorder but works in the modeling industries. She is like dating Gerard, but they were in a super big fight because of her eating disorder, as well as her constant traveling for fashion weeks, and at the end, they make up, and Gerard is helping her getting better, and stuff like that. I really love your writing, can you please write one? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Title: Poisons A/N: I actually got two requests for something like these. The endings for both requests were slightly different, but here’s the first one. I didn’t really edit it, just because I haven’t updated much content in forever, but here you go! Pairing: Gerard Way (probably late Black Parade era) x Model!F!Reader Word count: 3,170 Warnings: Eating disorder, swearing, angst, drama, there’s just a lot.
Okay, so this was not what Gerard expected to come home to.
The man expected to go back to his New York apartment, shared with his gorgeous girlfriend, and for everything to be perfect. Well maybe not perfect, but perfect in Gerard’s mind.
He wanted nothing more than to just eat some chips, not having eaten in 16 hours due to his flight and partial distaste to airplane food, and curl up with his girlfriend, hugging every inch of her curves.
Instead he came home to a house that was nearly empty of any food, only a few protein shakes resided in the large fridge. This was already a huge warning sign Gerard looked out for. His mind attempted to justify itself, thinking that maybe he was jumping to the worst of the worst conclusions. No, you were probably just traveling so much that you weren’t at home enough to actually buy food.
He sighed, moving to one of the cabinets he knew the take out menus were hidden in. Opening it up, he picked up one of the cheap paper menus covered in dust, shaking it with his hand to get it off. Great, these hadn’t been touched in months.
After debating mentally between Chinese and Italian, he moved to your bedroom, in hopes to finally see the love of his life after months of being absent on tour. There you were, peacefully sleeping in bed. Jetlag, he knew.
He carefully removed his shoes, moving to his closet to change his airplane clothes to more comfortable ones. Climbing into the warm bed beside you, he placed his hands on your hips as he always had. His initial smile soon turned into a frown.
Even under the large hoodie you were wearing he could feel the painful outlines of your ribs. Grimacing to himself, he heard a small sigh fall from your lips. “Gee?” You coarsely called out.
“Mhm,” He hummed back, kissing the top of your head despite the pure disappointment towards you that coarse through his veins.
“What’re you doing? Weren’t you supposed to be gone for another week?” You asked again, still half asleep.
“The guys and I decided to cancel the last week where we were just supposed to travel, I missed you too much.” He smiled lightly, moving your hair to the side to kiss your neck.
“Mmm,” You hummed quietly, your consciousness growing back. Within seconds realization hit you, your eyes internally going wide, not wanting to show anything to Gerard, and you pulled away from him slightly.
“Babe,” He sighed, “We’re not doing this again.” “Doing what again?” You tried to pretend to not understand what he was saying.
“You’re a gorgeous, talented model,” He began with a soft smile, “But don’t go into acting, you’re not good at it.” “Gee, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You fired back.
“Take off your hoodie,” He insisted, “Now.” “Gerard, what the fuck?” You scoffed, “Take off my hoodie?” “You heard me,” He stated, “Take it off.” “Why would I take it off?” You scrowled.
“So I can confirm that you haven’t been eating like you’re supposed to.”
“Gerard, please-” You begged, now falling off your pedestal of lies. He sighed heavily, rolling his eyes.
“Why haven’t you?” He asked, looking at you, “What has caused you not to eat again? I thought we were over this.”
“I don’t think that’s your problem.” You snapped. You rarely if ever did so, but this was only further confirmation that you hadn’t eaten in a couple of days. You were cranky.
“Damn right it is my problem.” He sat up next to you, his face had gone completely serious. There were traces of anger in his eyes, his pulsing veins along his muscular arms told you all you needed to know. He wasn’t only infuriated with your habit, he was disappointed.
A word you hated. You absolutely hated. The way it sounded, the meaning, how it made you feel. “Please,” You begged him, your once bright eyes gray from the torture you had put yourself through. “Please what?” He asked, his tone still somewhat harsh.
“Just don’t be mad.” You pleaded. You could see his eyes scan over your face, looking for any signs that you were lying. He found none.
Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes to clear his head he nodded lightly. “Alright,” He said barely letting out a breath, “But you need to tell me everything.”
And you did. Most of it at least. You explained how your insecurities resettled themselves in your mind, starting the moment he left for Tour. You talked about how you were getting more gigs and all due to your tinier size. You explained how skin and bones was basically the new trend.
He sat and listened to you. And he believed it, because he knew it was true. But naturally, he also was a human lie detector. Especially with you.
“Okay,” He began, “And what else?” So maybe that one small part your left out was something that you really didn’t want to admit. Gerard had this strong distaste for most of your model “friends”, ya know, the ones who are naturally tiny and eat salads 24/7, never genuinely enjoying a single meal. The one’s who flashed their designer shit everywhere they went, who posted bikini photos every other day and managed to somehow photoshop themselves into complete Barbie dolls. It made Gerard’s blood boil, he never liked you hanging out with them. Because are them you were not Y/N, you couldn’t be. And that made you even more secure.
“There’s nothing else.” You lied. He looked you in the eyes, waiting another moment.
“I’m gonna give you one more chance to tell me the truth,” He sighed, “What else?” “I said nothing.” Your tone was adamant. He rolled his eyes in disbelief.
“You lied to me,” He began, “You just fucking lied to me. We’ve been over this how many times?” “I didn’t fucking lie to you,” You stuck up for yourself, moving further away from him.
“Another lie, damn Y/N.” He sighed, “We’ve been dating for three years, and you still can’t trust me.” “I do trust you, Gerard.” “Then why are you lying to me?” He asked, his tone going to a much harsher pitch.
“Ya know what?” You said, grabbing your pillow violently, getting up from the bed, Gerard looking at you with no emotion. “Fuck you.” You stated.
“Are you seriously gonna leave?” He asked, rolling his eyes, “Immature.” “No, I’m going to the fucking couch where I don’t have to sleep next to a complete dick.” You fired back, going into your closet and grabbing a spare blanket. “You didn’t mean that.” He scoffed.
“Then why the fuck did I say it?” You marched out of the bedroom, flipping him off to which you heard a sarcastic laugh.
This was far from how you had planned his return. You were gonna stock the fridge and pantry, ya know, not give him a chance to think you weren’t eating, and probably have dinner made. You would eat a small portion, making the excuse you had a big lunch with your friends, and bam! Everything would be okay.
But naturally, shit didn’t work out and after numerous insults thrown at each other you found yourself on the couch silently sobbing. You and Gerard had never gone that far, ever. This fight was beyond messy, it was a complete dumpster fire.
You wanted no more than to apologize to him, but you also wanted an apology from him. You should’ve told him everything, that was on you. But he pushed your buttons and he knew what he was doing. It only took 15 minutes, before you heard his soft footsteps coming from the bedroom, and his warm arms wrapping around you, to which his shoulder became one to cry on. His slow and soft coos calming you down, as he began apologizing over and over again, clearly more mad at himself at this point. “Sugar, I’m so so sorry,” He apologized, “I was just really upset.” “I know,” You sniffled, “I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have called you a dick.” You looked up at him. “Well, I was kinda being one.” He lightly smiled, to which you giggled in his chest. “Just promise me, you’ll start eating again.” “Gee-” You were about to make an excuse when you were interrupted.
“Babe, you have to.” He began, “Remember what your manager said last time?” You sighed, remembering. Yep, they would place you right in a psych ward. “So here’s what’s gonna happen. We’re not gonna tell anyone, but I need you to start eating, okay? We’ll go gradually, start small and build up. Together, okay?” You nodded, placing you head on his shoulder.
“I love you,” You smiled, looking up at him. “I love you too.” He smiled right back down.
-Six months later-
"Gee, that’s too much salt!” You scolded as he put a tablespoon of salt not a teaspoon into the cookie dough you were making.
“Oops.” He looked down to which you smiled lightly. You took a chunk of it placing it into your mouth, and he did the same. You couldn’t help but gag at how much salt was in it. “Salty.” He admitted, and you lightly nudged him.
“Yeah, ya dork.” You smiled. “That’s what happens when you add too much salt.” He lightly laughed, wrapping his hands around your waist from behind and placing his head on your shoulder.
“So what’re we gonna do to fix it.” “Nothing,” You said, “We could like, triple the batch, but that would be way too much.”
“Don’t forget we’re seeing the guys tonight,” He smiled, “They’re gonna eat this shit up.” You sighed, nodding.
“Maybe it isn’t such a bad idea after all.” The two of you spent the next half hour adding more of every ingredient, thankful that your apartment was stocked with food to use.
Carefully, you placed as many trays as you could into the oven, closing it and setting the timer. Giving Gerard a quick peck on the lips, he went off to review some emails as you checked your phone. Of course, the group chat was buzzing.
You sighed as you open the text chain reluctantly, scrolling through only to see your name pop up numerous times. “Y/N, where have you been?” “Yeah, fr, we have been out to lunch with you in forever.” “Why are you ignoring us?” “Really? Now you’re being a fake friend.” “Guys, I’m okay.” You simply responded, “Just really busy.”
“Uh huh, you’ve been doing boutique stuff for months.” “Literally nothing even big.” “Not since that Prada show.” “It’s Gerard, isn’t it.”
And just like that, you were about to light these girls up. Gerard was the only one willing, and quite frankly able, to get you out of the huge hole you had dug yourself into. And damn, now these bitches (I hate misogynistic terms against women, but I think it may fit here) were really gonna act like the good guys. “Don’t bring Gerard into this.” You simply responded. “It has to be him.” “He’s not even worth it.” “You could have any guy in the world, and you chose him.” “He’s way out of your league, and you’re still on your knees for him. Smh.” You knew damn well they were trying to get to you. None of these girls had had any true romance, only summer flings with football players, actors, and singers. Granted, Gerard was a singer, but he made good music. He was an artist at his core, singing was just apart of that art. It didn’t take you more than a moment to remove yourself from the group chat, and block all those girls. The real fake friends. The timer went off, which startled you a bit, but placing your phone down with a heavy sigh, you turned it off, to check out the cookies. The top row was done, which you were going to take out. Naturally, the tsunami of inappropriate texts from who you would once call your “girlfriends” was still flooded in your mind, and like a complete idiot, you reached in, touching and grabbing the sheet. With you bare hands.
“Shit!” You yelped, dropping the pan on the open oven and rushing to put your hand under cold water.
“Y/N?” You heard Gerard rush in. You looked up at him, and judging your hand under water, and the cookie sheet which had clearly gone through it, he took a slight sigh, first going to examine your hand. “You alright?” You nodded despite the tears forming in your eyes.
It wasn’t even the burn that hurt. It was the fact that you knew you let those girls get to you so easily, and the just embarrassed yourself in front of Gerard. You knew he didn’t find it embarrassing at all, it was an honest mistake. But still, it embarrassed the shit out of you. “Baby,” He cooed, moving your head up with his fingers under your chin to see the tears that were now slowly cascading down your red cheeks, “It’s okay.” He said lightly. You nodded, placing your head into his chest and sniffling a bit. “What happened.” “I was just distracted,” You admitted, “Forgot the oven mitt.” He nodded, holding you for a moment longer before he knew you were okay, and going to pick up the mess. “Gee, I can clean it up, I made it-” “No, no, please, just worry about your hand, okay, sugar?” You nodded, attending back to it.
The bright red mark across your hand didn’t want to budge, which you were fine with, considering it didn’t hurt as much, just stung a bit. He managed to clean up all the cookies pretty fast, putting them on the stove top to cool, and quickly going back to you. Giving you a kiss on the top of your head, it was his way of messaging he didn’t want to push the topic. But if you wanted to talk he’d be there to listen. It wasn’t but a few hours later that the guys came over. The mistake from earlier was long forgotten, other than the mark on your hand.
The guys were honestly some of your best friends, just like they were Gerard’s. They truly cared about you, just as much if not more than you cared about them. All of them knew about your struggles, and they were honestly your number one cheerleaders.
So the looks on their faces when they saw you healthy again was one that you could not pay for. It was definitely a lot of pride in you for doing it, and it made you feel even better about your decision to get healthy again.
Honestly, you loved the relaxes atmosphere of just hanging out. Sitting next to Gerard with some water, as he drank a Diet Coke, and some of the guys had beers, some opted otherwise. You could theoretically drink as well, but you didn’t want your boyfriend to ever feel alone or strange not drinking alcohol, considering his rough past with it. So you typically opted for a non alcoholic beverage.
It wasn’t until after the guys were gone and you were in the shower that Gerard figured out what was wrong. Your phone kept buzzing, going off constantly. He had never once checked your phone without your permission. There was a huge element of trust in your relationship, and he never felt that there was a reason to. He knew your passcode, you two had openly shared each others in the case one of you needed to use the others phone, but when he picked up yours and saw all those girls name pop up he scoffed.
He knew he probably shouldn’t have done it, but he opened your phone, scrolling through the messages. Some of them you had yet to block, and they were obnoxious. He went into the group chat where the messages were flooding, reading from the beginning of the day until now.
Pissed was an absolute understatement. If it wasn’t for the sound of the shower you were in keeping him aware of his surrounding, he probably would have smashed your phone. Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes, he placed it face down on the counter right where it was, resorting back to your bedroom in some hope of calming down before you got out, not making anything too obvious.
Everything was fine, completely normal. The two of you laying in bed together, doing your typical night time routine of reading a bit, maybe watching something, it really depended. You could feel how tense Gerard was, even by your head just leaning on his shoulder. His muscles flexed together, twisted into tight knots. You weren’t sure what had him so stressed, there wasn’t a need for him to be, right? “Babe?” You asked, to which he quietly hummed, “Are you alright?” You had caught on quickly, like you always had. And now he had cursed himself for looking at those messages. Transparency, he remembered, transparency.
“Honestly,” He sighed putting his book down, “I- I- I saw those messages.” He stumbled on his own words. You gave him a confused look, “The ones the girls sent.” You let out a sigh. Oh shit, he thought, thinking the worst of the worst. “Please don’t listen to them,” You insisted, “You know you’re not the reason for any problem in my life?” “Of course not,” He scoffed, “You’re totally fine. It’s just, how they treated you that bothered me.” “Gee-” “Y/N, we’ve talked about this.” He turned to you, “I’m not a controlling person, I try my hardest not to be. But damn, those girls are complete poisons. They’re hurting you, they’re doing far more harm than good. And I hope that doesn’t make me sound like a manipulator or anything, but even you’ve admitted you’re a lot different around them.” You sighed and nodded.
“I know, I just-” You began, “I’ve spent so many years of my life surrounding myself with people like them that it’s hard for me to know what to do without that, ya know?” He nodded.
“You don’t need a bunch of model friends thought to still be a great model.” You nodded.
“I’ll cut everything off with them in the morning, okay?” “Babe, you don’t need to rush it,” He said, “I mean, sure, the sooner the better, but this is your timing okay?” You nodded.
“Do you think everything will be okay?” You asked him next.
“Well, after they very possibly blame you for everything over text and try to put you down a psychological spiral, because that’s what they do, then yes, everything should be okay.” He smiled to which you nudged him. “You’re making this so much easier.” You sarcastically said, “I don’t even know why I ask you.” “Because you love me.”

Home for Christmas - Criminal Minds Reader Insert (12 Days of Christmas)
Pairing: Hotch x fem!reader, Jack Hotchner x reader (maternal relationship
Warnings: angsty at the beginning, lots of Jack x reader moments, fluff ending!
Word count: 2431
A/N: Y/F/C/M stands for your favorite Christmas Movie and Y/N/N stands for your nickname. I also believe that Aaron is the kind of person who texts with correct grammar, although he may use sentence fragments if he is short on time, so that is incorporated into this one-shot. This one came to me while listening to a Christmas song, called “Home” by Blake Shelton and Michael Bublé (linked below). I really enjoyed the idea of this one (it may have gotten away from me a bit!)
Home by Blake Shelton ft. Michael Bublé
So here it is, hope y’all enjoy it! If you’re looking for another Christmas fic to read, check out my Mini-Series masterlist, where the rest of my Christmas one-shots are.
I know there aren’t any Aaron x Jack moments in the story but this was the GIF I thought fit best :)
“Y/N, it 's Aaron. I, uh, I won’t be making it home in time for Christmas. We have yet to get a break in the case, so it could be another week before I’m home. I know you had a lot planned for Christmas, and I’m sorry I won’t be able to celebrate with you. I’ll try to call, but I can’t promise anything. I love you. Tell Jack I love him.” Aaron’s voice crackles in your ear as you listen to the voicemail he’d left you earlier, as in 3 am, that morning for the eighth time.
It had been the first time you had heard his voice in almost a week and part of you was overjoyed. The other part of you was exasperated. You knew he was dedicated to his work, you had known it since the two of you had started dating, but it still hurt. Every time he worked late and didn’t let you know hurt. Every time a case went longer than expected, it hurt. Every time you went to bed alone, his side of the bed untouched and cold, hurt. And it didn’t hurt any less now, despite your suspicions upon hearing the team had taken another case, so close to Christmas, that he would miss the holiday altogether.
You let out a sigh as you stand up from where you had been sitting on the couch, wrapped in a Christmas throw blanket. You take your empty glass, which had been filled with your favorite holiday drink, into the kitchen and place it in the sink. You double-check the apartment door, making sure it was both deadbolted and locked (something Aaron had ingrained in you to do while he was away), before making your way towards the master bedroom. You stop at the door to Jack’s bedroom, cracking it open and using the light of the hallway to look at him.
Jack was sprawled out in his bed, fast asleep. Tiptoeing into the room so as not to wake him, you reach his bed and pull the discarded comforter up off the floor, placing it on top of Jack and gently tucking him in. “Your daddy loves you Jack, and so do I.” You say softly, pressing a kiss to his forehead, giving him a long look, before making your way back out of his room.
Upon reaching your bedroom, you head to Aaron’s dresser. You find one of his sweatshirts, well-worn and baggy, grab it from the drawer, and pull it on as you climb into bed. You didn’t typically wear his sweatshirts while he was home, but whenever he was away, it helped ease the ache created by his absence. After getting settled underneath the covers with your nose pressed into Aaron’s pillow, you soon fall asleep.
---
You are up early the next morning, quickly climbing out of bed before you realize that you have the next few days off, the 23rd (today) through the 26th for Christmas. You had used a few vacation days to extend your Christmas ‘vacation’, as you and Aaron (who had thought he would have had Christmas case-free) had wanted to spend time with Jack, as a family.
You couldn’t bring yourself to climb back into bed so you head downstairs, the idea of making breakfast for Jack coming to mind. Even though Aaron wouldn’t be home for Christmas, you still wished to make this Christmas special for Jack, just as you had planned to with Aaron. After going through your email and having a cup of your favorite morning beverage, you head into the kitchen. A few minutes of looking and you find your recipe for gingerbread waffles, a favorite from your childhood, and start gathering the ingredients.
Fifteen minutes later and you have your first batch of waffles made, bacon sizzling in a pan on the stove, and orange juice in glasses on the table. Christmas music is playing softly in the background when a small voice has you whipping around.
Jack is standing in the middle of the kitchen, his hair standing up at different angles on his head, and one of his hands sleepily rubbing his eyes. “Good mornin’ mama.” Despite not being his birth mother, Jack had been calling you mama since you had moved in with him and Aaron, over a year ago now. And every time you heard it, you were still overcome by joy.
You pull the boy into your arms, giving him a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek. “Hi bud. How’d you sleep?”
“I slept good mama. What are you making?” He asks curiously, peering around you to look at the stove.
You stand and briskly stride back to the stove to flip the bacon and check on the waffle you had cooking before you turn back to Jack. “Gingerbread waffles and bacon.” You answer, plating one of the waffles and some bacon before bringing it to the table. “Here buddy. Eat up.” You said, placing the plate next to the glass of orange juice. Jack bounces to the table, sitting down and quickly digging in.
---
After breakfast, and a few games of twenty questions, you decide to take Jack to the ice skating rink not too far from the apartment. The two of you bundle up and hail a cab to the rink. You spend the five minute ride to the ice plex with Jack in your arms as the two of you play a game of “I Spy.”
The cab reaches the ice rink, and after paying the driver you and Jack venture inside. You let out a laugh as he exclaims in excitement at all the trophies, fancy ice skates, and photos of skaters in the lobby. You rent a pair of skates for the two of you, before leading jack out to the seating around the rink. It takes you a few minutes to get skates on, and to help Jack with his but a few short minutes later the two of you are out on the ice.
It is apparent that you are out of practice and try as you might, you fall several times. Jack is actually skating better than you and soon he is ‘teaching you’.
“Mama, make sure you aren’t leaning backwards. That might be why you’re falling.” The nine, almost ten, year-old’s advice was helping you to stay on your feet for longer than thirty seconds. You had even started to move cautiously along the edge of the rink, with Jack skating confidently in front of you. The two of you stay out on the ice until Jack tells you he is cold. Admittedly, you were starting to get cold yourself, but you didn’t want to end Jack’s fun early.
After ice skating, the two of you go to Jack’s favorite pizza place, a little Italian place (the boy had developed sophisticated taste buds, thanks to a certain David Rossi), within walking distance from the apartment. The two of you have a lunch filled with cheesy pizza, endless breadsticks (which both you and Jack enjoyed thoroughly), and lots of laughs.
Then, upon returning to the apartment, the two of you cuddle up on the couch and watch Christmas classics. You share with Jack some of the movies you had grown up watching (Y/F/C/M and Y/F/C/M) and he shares some his favorites with you (The Grinch and Santa Buddies).Your movie marathon only stops when you whip up a quick dinner, which the two of you eat in about ten minutes at the table, and when you get up and pop some popcorn for one of the movies. Jack stays up way past his bedtime, but knowing that neither of you have to get up early the next morning has you being more lenient with his bedtime.
The next day passes in much of the same fashion. You and Jack take a walk, intent on finding the best Christmas decorations within walking distance. Although you had found some pretty cool decorations, Jack definitely won when he spotted the house decked out with a 12 Days of Christmas theme. Then the two of you stopped for lunch at one of the sidewalk vendors, something that Aaron probably would frown upon.
After lunch, you and Jack went to a Christmas pop-up village, where you watched the ‘elves’ wrap presents and people take pictures with Santa. The two of you ordered deluxe hot chocolates and sat on a bench, listening to a choir sing Christmas carols. Jack sang along to the ones he knew and he even convinced you to sing along with some too.
You two return to the apartment in late afternoon, shortly after which, the two of you start making Christmas cookies. You roll out the dough, while Jack stamps the cookie cutters into it, creating a variety of Christmas themed cookies. As the several batches of cookies bake, Jack reads to you from the kitchen’s small island as you follow the recipe for a sugar cookie frosting. When the cookies, and the frosting, are finished, you and Jack set to decorating the cookies.
Three hours and an order of takeout later, and you have four dozen frosted cookies scattered across the kitchen counter tops, three bags of mostly eaten takeout, two empty mugs, and one frosting and crumb covered boy fast asleep on the couch.
You can’t help but smile as you look at the plate of cookies Jack decorated, not for Santa, but for Aaron when he returned from the case he was working on.There were several Santas, a Rudolph reindeer, a present, and a Christmas tree. As you cover the plate in plastic wrap, you can’t help but think that you would give just about anything to talk to Aaron for a while. It had been two days since he had left the voicemail, and since then all you had gotten were a few short texts.
“Case progressing. Miss you and Jack.”
“Finally developed a profile. Love you Y/N/N.”
“Thought we had an unsub, but looks like we were wrong.”
“I love you and Jack. Wish I could be holding you both in my arms.”
You heave out a sigh and get to work doing the dishes from dinner and your baking escapade with Jack. The dishes, and tidying up of the kitchen, takes far longer than you want and it’s close to ten before you are gently waking Jack from the couch. You tenderly guide him down the hallway, making a pit stop in the bathroom to help wash some of the frosting off of Jack’s hands and face. After Jack is frosting free, with freshly brushed teeth and clean pajamas, you get him settled in bed. You read him “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” and listen to him sleepily tell you about the gifts he thought might be under the tree, after which you tuck him in and give him a kiss good night.
You take your time getting ready for bed, wishing the entire time that you would be crawling into bed with Aaron, where you would spend the rest of the night in his arms. But, alas, you are greeted with a cold, empty bed, which you reluctantly climb into as you shoot Aaron a quick text, wishing him a happy Christmas Eve and adding a short ‘I love you.’ You try to read a few pages in your latest book, but your mind isn’t into it. Instead you stare at the softly blinking Christmas lights shining in from the hallway, through the small crack between the door and the door jam, letting the rhythmic changing of the lights lull you to sleep.
---
You wake up to what sounds like the heavy apartment door swinging shut and the floorboards creaking, followed by a low thud and a muttering voice, which you can’t quite make out. Your heart is thudding wildly in your chest as you anxiously climb from the bed and tiptoe to the door of the bedroom. You can’t see any figures in the hallway, so you creep across the hall, placing a hand on the doorknob to Jack’s bedroom and noiselessly start to turn it open. You are so focused on opening the door and getting to Jack that you don’t notice the figure coming down the hallway towards you. A soft hand on your shoulder has you whipping around, landing a heavy hit with the heel of your hand to the intruder’s face.
“Son of a-” You immediately recognize the voice as Aaron’s, which makes you gasp in shock.
“Aaron. I didn’t know it was you. I’m so sorry.” You say, as you start to fuss over him. You try to guide him to the bathroom, in hopes that you might be able to help him there, but his hands stop you.
“Y/N, I’ll be alright. All I need is you in my arms.” His words, albeit a bit slurred (probably from the present throbbing in his face) bring a warm, fuzzy feeling into your chest and a cheesy grin to your face. You start to move towards the bedroom, but he pulls you close, scooping you up and easily carrying you back to the bed. The heat created by his body only leaves for a moment as you watch him, in the dull light, strip off his suit jacket and tie, before returning to your side. He pulls you incredibly close, his face in the crook of your neck breathing you in.
You don’t say anything, rather you just take comfort in his presence as you play with the small hairs at the back of his neck. “Gosh, I missed you.” He whispers, pressing a kiss to your collarbone before looking up into your eyes. One of his hands comes to rest on your cheek, his thumb tracing soft circles on your cheekbone.
“Merry Christmas Y/N.” He says, giving you another kiss, this time on the lips. His kiss is slow and tender, as if he wanted to savor the moment and make it last as long as possible.
Once you pull back, and catch your breath, you whisper, “Merry Christmas Aaron.”
He smiles at you, pressing another, much shorter, kiss to your lips. “I think I’ll wait for later in the morning to let Jack know I’m home; let it be a Christmas surprise for him.” He says, tightening his hold on you.
You smile back at him. “I think that’s a wonderful idea. For now, let me just appreciate my Christmas surprise.”

Love Thy Neighbor
Pairing: Iwaizumi Hajime x Fem! Reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1.8K
“No no nononono!” you rush to take out the thing that’s burning in your oven; almost forgetting to put on your mitts and nearly shoving your bare hand into the heat. They’re not on literal fire but you drop the whole baking pan into the sink and drown the charred contents in cold water. You sigh dejectedly at what’s supposed to be heart shaped cookies, but now they’re just scorched up black rocks. How does one mess up simple sugar cookies?? You hang your head in defeat and you have half the mind to dunk your head into the sink with the destroyed confection. They were supposed to be for friends; a nice thank you gift for all the things they’ve done for you and to celebrate Valentine’s Day boyfriend free. Well…
Three loud but quick knocks to your front door breaks you out of your thoughts and you straighten up to wonder who it is. A voice in the back of your mind scoffs since it should be obvious but when you answer the door, you’re surprised to see your neighbor, Iwaizumi Hajime, looking down at you with one eyebrow raised.
“Set your kitchen on fire, again?” he asks teasingly. While there’s amusement in his voice, you can hear the worry that’s laced underneath. You give him an embarrassed pout because one, yes you have set something in your kitchen ablaze before. And two, Iwaizumi is always there helping you fix up whatever disaster you’ve concocted. No matter what time of the day it was, after any failed attempt at cooking or baking that you’d tried to take on, he was there to help clean up and help you try again. It was like this from day one when you first moved into the apartment next to his and tried to cook your first meal with no cooking spray. Having him use the fire extinguisher on your brand-new cooking set was one way to make friends with your new neighbor.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” he chuckles when all he gets is your pout as an answer. He tilts his head at you as if to silently ask if it’s okay to come in and you sidestep to let him enter your apartment. The handsome athletic trainer has been in here so many times, he knows the way to your kitchen like he does his own.
“What is it this time?”
“…. Sugar cookies.”
“Cookies? That’s like, the easiest thing to make!” he replies over his shoulder before stepping in and seeing your sad attempt submerged in the sink. He makes a face that seems to be crossed with disgust and pity. You wring you hands on your apron and your cheeks heat up in slight shame.
“I was also trying to make chocolate pops so… I kinda forgot about the cookies baking,” you explain and motion to the kitchen table with chocolates, lollipop molds, and other stuff strewn about. Iwaizumi looks over and is quite impressed with how some of them are turning out. He even approaches the table to get a better look at them and can see why you had forgotten about the cookies; the heart shaped chocolate pops you had made so far look delicious and cute. He turns to you with a smile that makes you heart flutter in your chest.
“These look great! Making these for a special Valentine?” he inquires with a grin and if the red in your cheeks weren’t noticeable, they had to be now.
“I-I... They’re for friends!” you tell him half the truth because yeah, some of the chocolate pops are for your friends. But the others, especially the ones that come out as perfect as you like, are for the spikey haired man currently standing in your kitchen. Somewhere in between him helping you not set your kitchen on fire for the umpteenth time and the two of you having long and deep discussions while whisking eggs, boiling pasta, and dicing onions, you had fallen in love with Iwaizumi. You fell in love with how caring he was; checking on you whenever he smelt something burnt coming from your apartment or stopping you in the hallway to see how your week has gone. You fell in love with the way he laughs; nice and hearty, especially when you two fought over the flour and ended up getting it all over each other. You fell in love with his smile; the soft ones that he graces you when after the food has been cooked, served, and eaten, he stays over a bit longer to chat with you. The realization of your feelings for your next-door neighbor hit you like an incoming bus when he cancelled a cooking lesson with you for a date. At first, you didn’t understand why you were so upset: Iwaizumi is just your neighbor and he had every right to go out with whoever he pleases. But after talking it out with a friend while you sadly stirred a pathetic looking chicken noodle soup did she give you an epiphany,
“I think you’re in love with him…”
“Well, your friends are lucky to have something as nice as these for Valentine’s Day,” Iwaizumi breaks you out of your thoughts. You blink to see him pick up one of your chocolate pops and inspects them, noticing the tiny hungry glint in his eyes. You feel pride swell in you and you approach him with a little skip.
“Do you want one?” you ask him curiously. He turns to you with hopeful eyes and that makes you giggle; the stern athletic trainer can be so cute at times.
“Would you give me one? Or… Maybe two?” he requests. You hum in reply, pretending to mull it over in your head whether or not to give him some. You grin when he starts to pout and you make a bargain with him,
“How about you help me with the sugar cookies while I make more chocolate pops?”
“Deal!” he accepts almost immediately, and it makes you laugh. Iwaizumi grins at your laughter and you missed the way his cheeks pinken at the pretty sound. He grabs the apron that you have for him whenever he comes over to help you and starts by scrubbing away burnt up cookies from the baking pan. You watch him for a moment, heart content with having him near you, before going back to making the pops. The two of you chit chat as batter is mixed and chocolate is poured. Sometimes a joke or a tease gets tossed in the conversation along with giggles and chuckles. You and Iwaizumi maneuver around the kitchen as if in a dance; you sliding to his side to grab a bottle of spice or him placing a hand on the small of your back to warn you that he’s behind you to grab a utensil. The both of you don’t seem to realize all the small touches and spare glances that passes between the two of you, but this was such a weekly occurrence that has been happening for months now that it just felt natural.
After Iwaizumi gets a few batches of cookies baked and cooled and you have wrapped them along with the chocolate pops in cute little packages, your Valentine’s gifts are ready for tomorrow. You and he put them in the fridge, so they don’t melt except for one. You give it a nervous glance, wondering how to give it to him and if you should confess your feelings as well. In your head, you can hear some of your friends cheering and encouraging you to do so. You stall for time by cleaning up and of course, Iwaizumi helps you with that; not noticing the lone Valentine gift still on the table until,
“Is this one for me?” the handsome athletic trainer inquires once all the goodies are stored and the kitchen is spotless. You turn to see him holding up his own Valentine and your heart leaps in your throat. He’s smiling at you, eyes twinkling and an eager look set upon his face. You would have laughed and found it so sweet any other time, but right now... Your poor heart was trying not to beat itself out of your chest.
“Ummm… Yeah. It’s for you. Happy Valentine’s Day… Hajime…” you say softly. Iwaizumi’s grin widens and he’s about to thank you when he suddenly catches the tone of your voice and the fact you called him by his first name; it was always just Iwaizumi. He looks at you; eyes searching yours for something and hope filling his chest. There’s a reason why he keeps coming over and helping you whenever you mess up in the kitchen. While it took you a good couple of weeks to figure out your feelings, Iwaizumi was sure by the fifth cooking session together that he was in love with you. He fell in love with the way you were so eager to learn; taking in every tip he gives you and listening intently to his words. He fell in love with way you eyes lit up; whether it was from being able to do the recipe without a hiccup or at a joke he entertained you with. He fell in love with your smile; how it bloomed beautifully on your face whenever he saw you. He was so in love with you but scared that you didn’t feel the same way. Iwaizumi had hoped you were when he reluctantly told you he was being forced into a date by his friend and had to cancel a cooking session. He didn’t like how your face fell and how dejected and small you sounded when you told him it was okay; he could feel his own heart breaking.
“Y/N?” he calls out to you while taking a step closer to you. Hope is swirling in his eyes and you’re sure it’s the same with you. You take in a breath before saying,
“I… I’m in love with you Hajime… I… Please, be my V-Valentine?” you wince a bit when you find yourself stuttering, the blush on your cheeks darkening. The two of you stare at each other for a moment before you start to fidget when there is no answer. You are about to open your mouth to apologize or take it back or even both when Iwaizumi closes the distance between the two of you and pull you into a kiss. You let out a gasp but it gets swallowed when he slots his lips against yours. You let your eyes flutter close as you bask in his warmth and the wonderful feeling of his strong arms wrapping around your waist. You share your first kiss with Iwaizumi Hajime in the kitchen where the two of you fell in love and it makes both your hearts bloom with joy. When he pulls away from the kiss, he sighs happily and rests his head against yours. Both of you are smiling widely and a giggle pass between the two of you.
“I’ll be your Valentine from now on… Cuz I’m in love with you too.”

Falling For You -Part 4
December
Pairing-Eventual Dean x Female!Reader
Word count- 6071
Warning- Slight angst, jealousy, one or two swear words, fluff. Slow burn.
A/N- I had an idea for a one shot, and giving a backstory to Dean and the Reader meeting took on a life of its own. This story is AU Thank you to @waywardbeanie and @whatareyousearchingfordean for helping me keep these 2 characters in line and letting me bounce ideas off of you.
Summary- After being burned before you had sworn off finding love for now. Coming home from work one night there is a strange man pounding on your door. Neither of you knew what this meeting would lead to.
Series Masterlist
Your parents Christmas party was two weeks away, but you had a lot of baking to do, and none of it was started. Why did you procrastinate? Oh yeah, not much freezer room here when they are finished, and you had been hanging out with Dean. Coming home from work on Monday, you got a quick workout in before planning to spend the evening in the kitchen.
Recipes out, and ingredients spread on the counter you started working on your first cookie. Tonight you decided, was peanut butter night, which meant making the dough for peanut butter blossoms first, it would sit overnight and cook tomorrow while you were mixing other dough. Santa’s peanut butter cookie bars, and the last item of the night no bakes.
While working on the cookie bars there was a knock on your door which had you pausing to answer it. Hands a little sticky you answered the door as best you could.
“Hey Dean.”
“Hi Y/N, um, you got a little something here, and a here.” He pointed to one side of your face and then your forehead. Wiping it off with your hands you made a bigger mess.
“Moved out almost a week and you forgot where Sam lives already?” You teased him letting him into your apartment.
“No, I came over to see if you would like to grab some food with me. I think you might be a little busy though.”
“Yeah, I’m working on deserts for the Christmas party at my parents in two weeks. Your invitation should be coming any day, I hope you, your brother and Jess can come. I know Cas and Meg will be there too. I was in the middle of baking, but you are welcome to hang out if you want.”
“I got it today actually, I’ll be there. Have you eaten?”
“No, I haven’t thought about it yet.”
“Alright, so let's order a pizza, and I’ll help with quantity control in the kitchen.”
“I won’t have much for you to control tonight, but pizza sounds good.”
While the bar was cooking you got everything ready for the no bakes, deciding to start them after the pizza arrived. Eating at the counter next to Dean, he told you about the shop he was working in. He really liked Bobby, said he was an old grump on the outside but a teddy bear underneath. Bobby’s wife Ellen helped with the book keeping some days, she also owned a bar a little outside of town. He invited you to go with him, Sam and Jess to check it out sometime. Benny and he got along well, he also ran the kitchen at the bar in the evenings.
Santa’s peanut butter bars came out as you were waiting for your no-bake ingredients to boil. Dean went to cut a piece after you had set it down.
“You know that’s going to be extremely hot right?”
“It will cool in a minute, everything is better right out of the oven.” Shaking your head you went back to stirring your pot. “Oh that was good,” came from Dean a few minutes later. “When did you start baking?”
“My mom used to do it all, I’d help with what I could when I was little. Dumping in the ingredients she already measured, or stirring the batter after she mixed it. When you’re a kid you think you are so much help. Then we started doing it together as I got older, I learned from her. Over time I’ve found some of my own recipes to make, or put my spin on others. The last couple of years I’ve taken on most of the party baking, but there are one or two things we will make together for it.”
“You’ve got a real talent for it.”
“Thank you, but you don’t have to humor me.”
Dean wasn’t sure what to say to that, just looking at the back of your head while you were stirring. “It can be a great stress relief too when I’m frustrated with someone or something. It also forces me to find time for the gym.” You continued on not noticing his pause.
You had made a double batch of no-bakes and when they were ready, had talked Dean into helping you spoon them out. As the pot they were in cooled down Dean stuck a finger in the still soft cookie batter before putting it in his mouth.
“Dean, what are you doing?” Trying to keep a stern face as you looked at him.
“Oh, I’m sorry did you want a taste?” He dipped another finger and spread it over your lips before tapping your nose. Neither of you moving, eyes locked on one another before Dean’s ringing phone broke you apart. He went into the living room to take the call, while you wiped off your face and tried to figure out what that was between you. Nothing, right? You guys were just friends, neither of you wanted more, you were seeing things that weren’t there.
“That was Bobby, I have to go. There is a late delivery coming into the shop he was expecting in the morning and he isn’t there to let them in. You um, doing anything this week, or weekend?” He seemed a little more hesitant when he asked that.
“You’re looking at it. Maybe some cleaning and decorating I’m a little behind on it.”
“You need any help?”
“I don’t know about help, but I’ll always take the company if you want.”
“Okay, I’ll see you sometime this week. Night Y/N.”
“Night Dean,” locking up after him you let your thoughts drift to the green eyed man causing you so much confusion. Two months ago you both wanted to avoid relationships, you still didn’t think you were ready to get back out there. You really didn’t want to misread anything from him and scare him away either.
It was Friday night before you saw Dean again, a knock coming just after 5:30. This time he appeared at your door with beer, and burgers.
“Hi, you didn’t have to bring food.”
“Did you eat?”
“No, not yet.”
“Did you have anything here to eat?”
“I probably could have figured out something.”
“Yeah, the burgers were needed. This way more time to work on whatever tonight's project is.”
“Thank you, I appreciate it. Tonight's goal is frosting the sugar cookies I baked yesterday, making the frosting topping for the Cranberry Bliss bar, and the cake for the petit fours.”
“I’m not sure which question to ask first. I’m going to go with what the hell is a petty four?”
Not able to hide a smile and small chuckle you looked at him as you handed him a plate for his burger and fries. “Petit four, ever seen those small cake looking things that are like an inch or smaller, decorated fancy?”
“Maybe? I pay more attention to the pie. Speaking of, are you making any of those?”
“Not exactly, I have cherry pie cookie cups. Petit fours are a type of cake with layers of frosting and I also do a fruit filling in mine too.”
“Sounds complicated, but back to where are these cookie pies? I think I need to check them for you.”
“Sorry, I was out of freezer room here, they already went to my parent’s freezer. And yes, they are complicated. I’ll make the cake today, then it has to cool and slightly freeze, the filling, frosting and glaze will get made this weekend and then put all together.”
“I don’t have that kinda patience. Next question, what are you going to do with all this?”
“It’s a big party, we go through a lot then. It will go back in the freezer after, and the week leading up to Christmas we’ll get it back out and make up trays to give away to friends, business we deal with, and have some left over for Christmas.”
“What does one have to do to get on this list, sweetheart?”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure one will find its way to your door.
“What all is on your party list?”
“The things from Monday, and tonight, buckeyes, cherry cheesecake bar, two different truffles, fudge, cranberry cookies, candies, white chocolate ginger cookies, and choc cherry brownie bites, polar bear faces and some candies.”
“Next week is helping mom clean, with any last minute decorations she hasn’t done, then food Thursday and Friday night. Saturday is the party, Sunday I might not get out of bed.”
Dean laughed at that, “I never said I was joking Winchester.”
“Alright, alright so what are we doing first?”
“You really want to help me? You are welcome to turn on the television and just hang out.”
“Nope, I’m here to bake sweetheart.”
You offered to let him pick something on tv, but he declined so you turned on Hallmark Christmas movies to help you both get in the Christmas spirit. Dean helped you put together the cake for the petit fours, so that could get cooking first. Frosting sugar cookies was next, you had done a few cut outs, but you preferred plain old circles. It saved time and could be decorated any way. The frosting colors were always tied in to that year's decoration colors. This year was blue, white and silver, unfortunately you hadn’t found a silver paste coloring yet. You were going to make three different shades of blues and a simple white. The powdered sugar needed to be shifted still to help keep the frosting smoother. You gave that job to Dean while you got the rest of the ingredients ready.
“Oops,” you heard from behind you. Turning around Dean had put too much powdered sugar in at once then apparently leaned over to see what he was doing. Now he was wearing some on his face and shirt.
“Here,” handing him a wet rag you helped him clean up a little.
“Wouldn’t it be easier to use store bought?”
“Yes, but this recipe tastes better, has a better consistency for decorating with it, and dries so I can stack them without ruining the design.”
“Whatever you say Betty Crocker.”
The two of you both grabbed some cookies and started to decorate, at one point you looked up and had to look away so Dean wouldn't see your smile. The man really likes his sprinkles apparently.
“Wow!” You looked up quickly to see what caused that reaction from Dean.
“What?”
“Your frosting on those, that’s like store bought good.”
Feeling the blush heat up your face you smiled at him, “Thanks, I’ve had a lot of practice over the years. Watched a lot of decorating tips too.”
It was a lot of fun decorating the cookies with Dean, you goofed off a little and tried to “help” each other with the cookie the other was working on at that time. That ended with some, let’s say interesting looking cookies thrown in with the others.
“Hey Dean,” You got his attention while you headed to the sink with the last of the remaining frosting. “I think you got a little something right here,” as you tapped him on the nose with a blue spoon quickly getting out of his reach.
While you were standing at the sink he came up behind you and wiped his frosted nose on the shoulder of your dark green shirt. “Dean!” Neither of you could hold in your laughter.
The last task of the night was the frosting to the Cranberry bars. Dean had snuck a few bits of everything tonight, but you didn’t care. He had earned it. This had been the most fun baking you had had in a long time.
Neither of you had to work tomorrow and retired to the couch to watch a movie when you were all cleaned up. The temperature had dropped this week and despite the heat being on still a little chilly in the apartment. There was a blanket behind Dean he grabbed before sitting next to you and tossing it over you both. You didn’t realize as the movie went on you leaned a little closer in to Dean until he put his arm around your shoulders anchoring you close.
Dean was telling you about his week and how he met the owner’s step daughter, Jo, this week. She had been in everyday to take care of the paper work for Ellen since she had problems at the bar to take care of. According to Dean she was a bit of a talker, and kept coming to the back of the shop where he was working.
Oh you fool, you thought, she’s trying to flirt with you, not just talk. “Was she just there this week?”
“Not sure, I heard her tell Bobby she would be happy to take it over if they wanted her too.”
Of course she would, she wants to see you, went through your head, but all you said “Oh,” You're not looking to date, you have no right to be jealous of her flirting with Dean or hanging out with him at work. Not that he would be interested; he only wants friends right now too, but you found yourself worrying about Dean falling for her.
Dean looked around your apartment as he was walking out, “Not much time for decorating yet?”
“I’m going to work on that tomorrow. What about you? How is your house coming?”
“I only had a few decorations I put up, I won’t be up here anyways.”
“No? Your parents aren’t coming back up?”
“No, we are heading to them. Jess’ parents are going on a cruise that leaves the 26th so Sam and her are heading to see them before Christmas and will meet us in Kansas. I took the week of Christmas off, I’ll drive there either the 20th or 21st and come back here the 27th. Are your parents staying in town for Christmas?
“Yep, we have it at their house every year, and my aunt should be good to travel by then.”
“That’s good, see you tomorrow.”
“What?” He just winked at you and shut the door. Did you have plans you were forgetting?
Late Saturday morning while you were fighting with branches there was a knock at your door. A bright eyed Winchester was waiting to be let in, his coffee in hand.
“I didn’t have plans today, and thought I’d give you some help. Plus I wanted to see how the petty things went together.” He looked at the corner where you had been working, “What is that mess?”
“That’s my tree, thank you very much, and it’s petit four.”
“You know real is the way to go.”
“Says the man with no tree. Maybe it is, except when you live alone, and would have to water it and check it everyday and you have an allergy to the branches making you break out in red itchy spots.”
“Okay, you win.”
Dean helped you get the tree together and put the ornaments up. When you finished with that you got the petit fours out to finish. Dean watched you adding layers to the bottom half of the cake, then put the top half on doing the same, helping when he could.
“Getting the glaze on is the hardest part, mine never look as good as ones you can get in a store.”
“I think they look awesome, if I tried these mine wouldn’t be half as good.”
You had ingredients in your cupboard for pasta so you started that inviting Dean to stay for dinner. The night ended much like the last with the two of you side by side watching a movie on the couch.
The next week was pretty busy for you helping at your parents, it went fairly quickly though. Usually during the week you will talk to Dean a few times and text almost everyday, even if it’s just sending the other a funny picture. This week you hadn’t heard from him at all. Guess he was too busy at work with Jo.
The party had been going on for an hour and you still hadn’t seen Dean yet. Sam, Jess, Cas and Meg had all arrived half an hour ago.
It was thirty minutes later when Dean finally arrived. Finding his brother and friend first he said hello to them before looking for you. Finally spotting you talking to a group of people, he hung out behind you for a few minutes before a woman looked up at him and said hello. This had you turning around.
“Hello Dean, so glad you could finally make it.” Was it chilly in here or just your voice.
“Oh, you’re Dean!” Exclaimed the woman who first spotted him.
“Yeah, that’s me,” he gave her a small smile.
The woman looked to you before going back to Dean, “It’s nice to finally meet you, it seems like my daughter has forgotten her manners. I'll introduce myself, I’m Alicia. It's nice to meet you. Y/N said you had helped her with the baking last week. I have to say you two make a great team, thank you for helping her.” She glanced over at you looking at the floor, “I need to go check the food, I’m sure I’ll see you around, Dean.”
“Sorry I’m late, I got called back into work.”
“The shop closes at one on Saturday’s, it’s 8:30 now. Did you walk home and then here?”
“No, Jo was trying to finish up paperwork for November that had to be sent in today. She called me in to explain some of the notes, and expenses. Bobby and Ellen were out of town today so she couldn’t ask them. It took awhile and she wanted to grab dinner, I told her I had a party to be at, but she kept pushing and I went with her for one drink.”
“It’s fine Dean, nothing said you had to be here when it started, or stay the whole time. Have fun, your brother and Cas are around here somewhere. I need to go check the dessert table.”
Turning and quickly walking away, Dean was too caught off guard by your distance to follow right away. You had never given him the cold shoulder like that, he didn’t like it. By the time he caught up to you again, someone else had pulled you into conversation. Waiting a few minutes for you to finish, finally deciding to go find Sam and the rest of that group when you didn’t. He was fairly certain you were upset with him, and that didn’t sit well at all.
He passed by the food set up in the dining room, and kept going. As much as he was starving when he got here, he seemed to have lost his appetite now. Meg and Jess were gone when he rejoined the guys. He pretended to listen to their conversation, but he wasn’t really there. Why were you so mad, was it because he was late, or did something else happen? Why did you care when he showed up, there were numerous other people here. His original plan was to come early and see if you needed help, but going over paperwork with Jo took much longer than expected. She couldn’t seem to concentrate on her work.
Excusing yourself from the family friend who cornered you , you made your way to your old room. Needing a few minutes of alone time to calm yourself down. You were jealous, but no way would you admit that to anyone else. Your door opened minutes after you shut it, looking up Jess and Meg walked in sitting across from you on the bed.
“Partied out already, or hiding from someone?” Meg gave you a knowing look waiting for your answer. “You do know Dean is downstairs right?”
“Neither, I just needed a minute, too many people down there for me. Yeah, I know he finally showed up, not that I care”
“Liar,” spoke up Jess.
“The two of us are completely sure you being up here has nothing to do with a green eyed bowlegged mechanic you have been looking for all night.”
“Nope, not at all. Why should I care if he spent the evening helping the boss’ daughter do paperwork, or that he took her out for dinner.” Staring at your friends you didn’t say anything else.
“Yep you're just fine,” when you didn’t say anything else Meg continued, “know we are here whenever you want to talk about whatever is going on in your head.”
You all rejoined the party. This was always one of your favorite nights as much as you were looking forward to having Dean here tonight, you weren’t up to seeing him right now. You had caught up with your friends on and off the rest of the night. Mostly when Dean had stepped away. You were ready for the night to be over.
Sunday morning Dean stood outside your apartment door knocking without any answer. The door behind him opened but he didn’t realize it until hearing a voice he knew well.
“You know I live in 43 right?”
“Yes, bitch, I do. Y/N lives in 44. She was off last night and I wanted to talk to her. Picked up breakfast on the way over so she wouldn’t have to make anything. But if she doesn’t open the door I can’t give it to her.”
“Jerk, It’s still a bit early, did you text her?”
“Yeah, but she didn’t respond.”
“You’re welcome to wait for her in here if you want to try again in a bit.” After knocking again, he followed Sam inside.
Rolling over in bed, you reached over petting the dog laying next to you. You missed having a dog around, but your apartment wasn’t pet friendly. Grabbing a sweatshirt you made your way downstairs to see what your parents were up to. You had decided to spend last night in your old room so you would be here to help with any more clean up this morning. It was a good hour later when it finally dawned on you that you hadn’t checked your phone this morning. Picking it you realized the battery died, and you didn’t bring a charger. You were the only one without an iPhone so their chargers wouldn’t work on yours. That will have to wait till I get home later.
Getting off the elevator later that afternoon you ran into Sam. “Hey, Dean was looking for you earlier, but you never answered your door. He waited for awhile, but had to get going.”
“I stayed at my parent’s last night, and didn’t take a charger for my phone. Thank you guys for coming last night.”
“It was fun, thanks for inviting us. When your phone has a charge, text Dean back, he has texted me a few times since he left asking if I’ve seen you.”
“Alright, talk to you later Sam.”
When your phone finally had some life you sent Dean a text apologizing for missing him when you weren’t home.
“Can I come over?” Dean texted back.
You had to debate with yourself whether you wanted him to or not. He had done a lot to help you last week, and been a much needed friend. Did he really deserve the cold shoulder because you were jealous? You texted back ‘If you want.’
Fifteen minutes later there was a knock on the door, putting on a smile you let Dean in. Maybe you could pretend your behavior last night didn’t happen.
“Hi Dean.”
“Hey Y/N, thanks for letting me come over.”
“Not a problem, how was your day?”
“Alright, a little worried my friend is mad at me, and I really want to fix that. I’m sorry I was so late. I was actually going to come early and see if you needed help, I’m sorry work got in the way. I tried to bring you breakfast this morning so you wouldn’t have to get out of bed and mess with anything this morning.”
Guess he wasn’t going to go along with your plan to pretend it didn’t happen. “I’m sorry Dean, I shouldn’t have gotten that upset. You didn’t have to be there right at 7, I was excited to have you there last night and it shouldn’t have mattered when you came. I should have enjoyed having you there when you arrived. I ruined it for both of us, I’m sorry. Sorry, I missed breakfast with you this morning.”
“It’s okay, I just really don’t want to lose my friend. If you really wanted to make it up to me, go shopping with me tomorrow night? I need some help with Jess and Mom, please?” He gave you the best puppy dog eyes he could muster.
“Sure, I still have a bit to do also.” Dean had been the best thing to happen to you in awhile, you didn’t want to lose him either. Hopefully a night at the mall could help things go back to the way they were. “Pick me up after work?”
“I’d be happy to.”
“Have you eaten dinner yet? I have leftovers from the party if you want to stay for dinner?”
“Seriously? Yes, I didn’t end up getting anything last night.”
Both of you worked in the morning, so instead of starting a movie after dinner you just turned a tv show on. Tonight you two didn’t sit as close as you previously did, honestly you missed it. You made small talk, he asked how things were at your parents’ house. You told him everything cleaned up fairly quick, staying there made you miss having your dog around.
Snow was lightly falling on the way to the mall, you were hoping for a white Christmas. Dean asked about your day, not much happened for you at work. He was telling you about a classic car that just came in he was working on. He really enjoyed his job, his green eyes shining as he talked about the different parts that needed restoring.
Arriving at the mall it became clear Dean really didn’t have any ideas on what to get either woman, so you offered various suggestions in the stores you were in. Finally getting Jess done, Dean picked up a scarf you knew she wanted, and some fun picture frames to go on her collage wall. His mom was proving trickier.
“Any hobbies?” you asked, leaving the 6th different store.
Dean thought for a moment, “She does like horror movies.”
“Yeah, I’m coming to realize you are all obsessed with monsters. How about not for Christmas. Any place she mentioned she would want to go?”
He thought for a few minutes “Actually I heard her talking to Jess about a new place that opened up in town.” When Dean finished telling you about you pulled out your phone to see if you could google it. Finding what you needed you explained your idea to Dean and what you could get up here and what he would need to get once he was back in Kansas.
With that accomplished you two wandered around a few more stores looking for items to fill the rest of your lists.
Thursday was the next time you saw Dean, running into him in the apartments’ parking lot. He was on his way to meet Sam for something. Making small talk in the elevator, without thinking you asked something you didn’t really want to know.
“How’s Jo been?”
Dean gave you a funny look, “I don’t really know, she hasn't been in the shop the last couple days.”
“Oh, I thought you might talk to her outside of work.” What are you doing Y/N, do you really want to know this.
“No. I don’t really have a reason to need to talk to the boss’s daughter outside of work.”
“Okay. I have something in my apartment for you, I meant to drop off. If you have time stop over before you leave.”
“Is it pie?”
“Sorry, not this time.”
When you got inside your apartment you went to check and see what ingredients you had in your cupboard. Finding pecans and a pack of crescent rolls you decided to whip up something quick. A little over an hour later you heard a knock at your door. Inviting Dean in you walked back over to the kitchen where the timer was going off.
“Something smells amazing.”
“I didn’t have any fruit to make a regular pie filling, but I did have some pecans I never used for the party, I made you a pecan pie bar, I hope it’s okay.” You could almost see Dean’s mouth start to water. “I’ll get you a fork and plate.”
“I don’t need a plate, the pan is fine.”
While Dean was eating you grabbed the item you picked up for him from the spare room.
“I know you don’t have a tree because you won’t be here for Christmas, but I thought you needed something. Even if it’s not real.” You had picked him up a little prelit tree and decorated it to have in his house.
“It’s great, thanks Y/N. You didn’t have to do that though.” Dean gave you a hug as you set it down next to the pan of bars.
“I know, I wanted to. You can set it on that skinny table you have and set the presents underneath it after you wrap them.”
“Oh, that’s right I have to wrap them. Hey sweetheart, do you think you might come over one night and help me with…”
“Seriously Winchester? How would you ever make it without me, do you even have paper?” Laughing you agreed to come over Saturday and wrap what he had.
“Of course I do.”
Knowing you were just hanging around the house and wrapping presents you put on yoga pants and a baggy sweatshirt to head to Dean’s knowing he would be hanging out in sweats by now too. Sure enough he answered the door in a grey henley and black sweats. The fireplace was on in the living room and with the presents and wrapping paper on the coffee table. Dean ordered pizza and found Die Hard on tv. He was sitting on the couch watching you work, when you looked up at him.
“Are you planning on helping me at all or just watching?”
“Which answer won’t get me in trouble?” The bitch face you sent his way might rival Sam’s. “I was kidding, I was just watching how you do it. Very nice wrapping by the way.” The roll of wrapping paper flying at him barely missed his arm.
Two presents into Dean wrapping, you knew why he wanted help. When the pizza arrived you set him free. Finishing the last gift you leaned back against the couch rolling your shoulders to loosen them up after being hunched over. Dean was sitting up on the couch behind you and leaned down to rub your stiff shoulders.
“Thanks for that.”
“Least I could do for you wrapping those.” Before you left for the night you put the gifts under his tree best you could.
You spent the next week trying to catch up with your own Christmas shopping, get the cards in the mail, and trying to find time to just enjoy the Holidays. Friday night you, Charlie, Meg and Jess donned your best ugly sweaters and leggings, spending the evening at your place vegging out and watching movies.
You woke up early Saturday morning to head to Dean’s house before he left. Knocking on his door he was surprised to see you.
“I just wanted to stop over before you left. I brought you some of the desserts to take to your parents house.” You had given Dean a plate of them the weekend before when you came over to wrap. “I expect those to make it to Kansas so you better put them in the trunk.”
“I don’t know sweetheart, I might need a snack for the road. Eleven hours is a long trip.”
“I figured you would, there is a bag of the cherry pie cookies in there for you.”
“You are too good to me.” Giving you a kiss on the cheek he walked past you to put them in his car while you followed him over.
“Do you need help doing anything before you go?”
“I’m all set, car is loaded, just have to refill the coffee in my travel mug, wash the pot and lock up the house.
Waiting while Dean finished with his coffee you walked out to the car with him. “Have a safe trip, and Merry Christmas. See you when you get back.”
“Thank you sweetheart. Thanks for your help and the cookies. Have a Merry Christmas yourself.” With a hug you walked to your own car watching the Impala drive away.
You were definitely going to miss him this week. A little after one that afternoon you received a text from Dean saying he was in Springfield, Illinois and halfway there, he would text you when he arrived at his parents. Around seven, that text arrived along with a picture of a house you were guessing belonged to John and Mary. The two of you talked a few times over the week, he called later than usual Tuesday night, and seemed to be really down.
On Christmas Eve you went to Mass with your family before heading to your parents house for dinner with your grandparents, some of your parents siblings, and cousins. Games followed and a few hours later the house cleared out. You spent the night there since you would be having Christmas morning there with your dad’s family. Dean had texted you a few times throughout the day, Sam arrived today so you hoped he could help his brother with whatever was going on.
Christmas morning you sent Dean a text before helping your mom with breakfast. Your dad’s family spent the morning at the house before heading elsewhere for the afternoon. Your mom’s family started coming over around 2, they stayed for dinner and games. You loved your family but were glad to have an empty house spending time with your parents when everyone was gone.
That evening you went back to your apartment. Sitting on the couch looking at your Christmas tree you saw a big gift bag Jess had dropped off before leaving town. She told you you couldn’t open it till Christmas, that was now right? Grabbing it you brought it back to the couch with you.
First you pulled out a big oddly wrapped lump, unwrapping it you found a Chocolate Lab plush. He reminded you of your dog you had growing up. The next item was a t-shirt that had you cracking up. In the bottom of the bag was a card.
Y/N,
I think this goes to show what we both already knew, I can’t wrap worth a damn. This guy reminded me of the pictures I have seen in your apartment. He might not be able to follow you around, or bark at strangers, but hopefully he can keep you company. I got a laugh out of the shirt and I hope you do too.
Merry Christmas Sweetheart,
Dean
Dean called you later that evening.
“Hi, Merry Christmas Dean.”
“Merry Christmas to you Y/N. How was your day?”
“It was good. Scooby and I are relaxing back home now.”
“Good, um who’s Scooby?”
“This really cute chocolate lab plush that my good friend got me. Thank you Dean, he’s great.”
“Not a problem Sweetheart. Glad you like him, Scooby?”
“That was my dog's name growing up, I was a big Scooby Doo fan. Still am”
He started laughing, “So was I. Yeah, I wouldn’t rush to change the channel if it was on now either.”
The two of you talked more about your days. He was ready to leave, but Sam and Jess were riding back with him, and he didn’t want to pull them away yet. Something happened while he was home, he didn’t sound like himself. If you had to guess it was why he called you Tuesday night. You wondered if you would find out what that was.

Bake-off - JJ (Outer Banks)
Request: can you write something with jj where the reader bakes a lot :) i understand if not, but i bake a lot (especially pies, i’m rambling sorry!) and thought this would be cute
A/N: So, since it’s JJ the baking had to include weed. 😛
Outer Banks Masterlist
///
The tray of banana nut muffins sat on John B’s table, half eaten. It was long before Big John died that there was ever even a homemade birthday cake in the house, neither men having much luck in the kitchen. But the muffins didn’t belong to John B anyway, they were JJ’s, which was even more peculiar, according to Kiara. If the Routledge men were shit at baking than the Maybank’s had never even turned on an oven.
“They’re a gift.” JJ shrugged, laying across the laz-e-boy on the porch and munching on one.
“A gift?” That was more shocking than their existence. JJ didn’t really get gifts and definitely not baked goods.
“Did you mow someone’s lawn?” Pope asked, reaching for the muffin only to have JJ Flop away from him at the last second.
“You could say that.” He grinned, attempting and failing a wink.
“Ew, JJ.” Kiara groaned and walked back into the living room, emerging a moment later with one, “oh my god they’re edibles.”
“What?” Pope asked.
“There’s weed in them.”
“Yes there is.” JJ grinned, “I ate two last night and was cooked. It’s some good shit.”
“Is it your shit?” Kiara asked, taking a bite.
“Obviously, I said it was good didn’t I? I got the best shit on the island Kie.” He replied.
“I know you didn’t make them so who made them for you?”
-
JJ was a purest, as he dramatically referred to it. He rolled his own joints, dried his own weed for vaping, and he didn’t do edibles. At least he didn’t until one of the guys in the kitchen at the hotel turned 21. A box of cookies sat on the counter in the kitchen, marked Andrew. Double chocolate-chocolate chip, according to Andrew, and packed with a enough weed to “have you cooked after half of it”.
“They’re delicious man, you gotta try one.” Andrew had insisted.
“I don’t do edibles.”
“You’ll regret it.”
And naturally, being told that there was the possibility for regret was a guaranteed way to ensure JJ did something. His bizarre fear of missing out dictated that he have no regrets and so he took one and ate the whole thing right there in the kitchen. And it was good...it was so good it didn’t even taste like weed and he was two seconds from telling Andrew he’d been dupped when he felt the familiar ease settle over him.
“Where’d you get these?” He asked, slipping three into a plastic bag and dropping them in his backpack.
“That girl that works in the kids area.” Andrew shrugged.
You were a glorified babysitter, in charge of occupying people’s toddlers while they went out to play golf or shop or go to the spa. Not the greatest job in the world but the kids were usually easily contained and the parents always tipped well.
JJ knew you to see you, always wandering around with some kid or another attached to your hip, talking about Frozen or Descendants...he’d heard you duet a song from some Disney Channel movie with one of the little girls just last week. It made you seem a bit green honestly. He couldn’t imagine you doing anything less than innocent, especially making your own edibles.
He waited until after his shift to look for you, still wearing his white button up and vest but with his cargo shorts back on. You were outside supervising and participating in a game of soccer with a handful of eight year olds.
“Hey,” he called, waving to you as he walked up. You tossed the soccer ball back into the makeshift field and turned toward JJ, “Andrew said you made him those cookies, for his birthday.”
“Oh yeah,” you nodded, “I know he doesn’t like to smoke so...”
“Could you make me some?”
“Sure, what flavor?” You turned away for a moment to make sure all five of your children were still actively playing soccer and JJ took the opportunity to check you out. Your t-shirt advertised the hotel and hung loose on you. Shorts and a pair of running shoes completed the look and he was appreciative for the view of your legs.
“Chocolate peanut butter.” JJ decided.
-
Chocolate peanut butter cookies, snickerdoodles, brownies, blondies, coffee cake, you and JJ had slowly formed a friendship built on experimental edible recipes. He supplied the weed and you made him whatever baked goods he could think up. He had even downloaded the Tasty app and Pinterest for the sake of finding new desserts for you to tackle.
“So this girl just makes you whatever you want?” Kiara asked the next time a container of cookies appeared at John B’s house. Sugar cookies, with piped on icing that made them look like beach balls.
“It’s business Kie. I supply the weed from my cousin, she makes the edibles. We sell them too, it’s a very lucrative business.” JJ replied, eyes closed, laying in the hammock outside John B’s while he smoked.
Kiara was munching on a sugar cookie. She wasn’t really complaining about the edibles, her mom had been on her lately about the possibility of her smoking and the edibles were easier to hide. Especially because yours didn’t smell half as bad as some she’d had in the past. Mostly she was just curious about this girl that JJ was spending time with. He acted like it was casual but Kiara had known him for a long time and she knew JJ lacked the ability to hang out with a girl casually. Even they toed the line sometimes.
“So when can we meet your esteemed business partner?” Kiara asked.
“What?” JJ rolled his head to the side to look over at her, pushing his sunglasses down his nose. “Why do you wanna meet her?”
“Why don’t you want us to meet her?” She countered.
“I don’t care. You can meet her.” JJ replied, trying to act nonchalant about the whole thing. He couldn’t fool Kiara and he knew that but that didn’t stop him from trying. He didn’t want you to meet his friends, mainly because he liked having you all to himself. It meant your attention wasn’t divided four ways.
-
“These are burnt on the bottom.” You commented, sitting on the kitchen island beside a cooling rack of peanut butter cookies. The peanut butter was JJ’s favorite though you usually didn’t make them because of allergies.
“They’re fine.” JJ replied, munching on a cookie while he scrolled through tiktok. You rolled your eyes at him and held one up, turning it over to inspect the nearly black bottom of the cookie. JJ had sworn that he would keep an eye on them while you left to talk to your mom on the phone but he’d let the buzzer go two minutes before he finally took it out.
“At least you’re the only one eating them.” You remarked, taking a bite of the one in your hands. You scrunched up your nose at the taste of burnt cookie, “the high better be worth it.”
JJ put his phone down, pushing off the counter so that he could come over and stand in front of you. You raised an eyebrow as JJ moved your knees apart so that he could stand between your legs. He opened his mouth, letting out an ‘ahh’ and you rolled your eyes at him as you placed the burnt peanut butter cookie in his mouth.
“It’s burnt.” You reiterated, watching him chew the cookie. You had discovered that JJ could pace himself far better with a blunt than he could a batch of cookies. He’d eat three in a row and get cooked, an unusual occurrence for him. You ran a hand through his hair, brushing it out of his eyes. “Your hair is so greasy it literally stands up on its own.” You teased.
“I washed it!”
“The last time you went in the ocean does not count as a bath.” You replied. You continued to play with his hair as he leaned closer to you, eyes fluttering shut for a moment.
“You have off tomorrow?” JJ asked, still munching on his cookie.
“Yeah but my mom’s home all day.” You replied.
The experimental creating of edibles had led to a friendship and then a something in between. You weren’t quite ready to call JJ your boyfriend but you certainly weren’t entertaining the idea of anyone else. He spent all his time at your house when he wasn’t with his friends or working. Even when your mom was home and there was no baking, he hung around. At work he sought you out throughout the day, more than once crashing whatever activity you were doing with your kids.
“I was thinking you could come out on the boat with us.” JJ said. He was determined, now that he’d told Kiara he would, to introduce you to everyone. It certainly didn’t mean that he was planning on giving up his alone time with you but he’d concede to Kiara this time. “My friends wanna meet you.”
“Okay, I’d like that.” You replied, smiling at the implication that he was introducing you to his friends, “but I’m making them better cookies cause these are burnt.”
“There’s nothing wrong with them.”
“No but there’s something wrong with me for trusting you to watch the oven.” You said.
His eyes opened and he pouted at you. “I’m very responsible.”
“I know babe.”

skz of christmas day 2: handmade presents with felix
member: felix wc: 1.6k genre: fluff, roommates au, preparing for christmas w no plot lmao
the brownies
“Y/N, does two cups of flour make more brownies?”
“Ah, I really do think we should’ve bought more of these chocolate chips!”
“Y/N, can you look at my mix? Does it need more flour? I just think it kinda does.”
“Aah, I still haven’t finished everyone’s amigurumi—“
“Felix? Felix!” Having had enough of your roommate’s incessant worried monologue over your Christmas playlist, you finally rush over to your roommate on the other end of the kitchen island and grab him by his shoulders with a chuckle. Held down in place now, the doe-eyed boy is quick to comply and stares back at you curiously. “Can you slow down a bit? Relax!”
“B-But—“ He fumbles over his words at your sudden comment, raising an eyebrow before rubbing the nape of his neck. “Sorry, I—I’m just—just a bit worried!”
“A bit worried.” You roll your eyes playfully, moving your hands down to his and taking his first batch of brownies. “You should’ve thought more about that when you started promising everyone stuffed toys and food, hm?” You then return the brownie mix back on top of the island. When your gaze naturally glances down on the recipe he’s been trying to adjust, you then continue, “Okay, how about we start with this recipe first? How many did you put in already?”
Felix follows your eyes with a pout, taking a seat on a nearby high stool. “Just the flour and sugar.” He sighs when you take a longer peek at his bowl. “I only managed to put in two cups of flour and half a cup of sugar when it started overflowing.”
“The wet ingredients over there?” You pointed to another bowl on his side, extending your hands out to which he immediately replied by handing you the bowl. “It looks a bit lacking compared to the dry bowl.”
“It’s just one and a half stick of butter and three eggs then I gave up measuring.”
“And how much yield do you want? Compared to the original recipe?”
Felix’s eyes widened at the unfamiliar term before his brows naturally furrowed down in thought. “Huh?” He asks, a gesture that definitely makes you giggle.
“It means your recipe makes 16 brownies in one go so how much are you trying to achieve with more of the ingredients?” You elaborate more in answer, laughing even more as realization dawns on him. “Help me out here, I suck at Math too.”
The boy runs a hand through his blonde hair once with a hum. “A-Ah, well around 60? Or more? Something like that?”
“So four?” You ask next, more to challenge him now with his new knowledge.
“Yeah?” Your roommate slowly nods, still a bit unsure. When you nod back almost teasingly, he then repeats his gesture with more conviction. “Yup.”
With this, you then turn around to the overhead cabinets by your stove, taking out your extra supplies of the same ingredients. “Then we’ll have to add just a bit more in your mixes. Thank God we don’t have to reduce anything or it’ll be a waste.”
Felix is quick to follow you, trailing right behind you like a lost puppy while taking the heavier ingredients from your arms. “And the same goes for the cookies later, right?”
You nod again with a hum. “We’re going to bake for a whole army, Lix!” You joke, returning to the kitchen island once you’ve got everything on hand and placing them next to their respective wet and dry ingredient groups. “Now, we should multiply everything by four in the ingredients list—and maybe take out extra trays for later.”
“Even the fractions?” He frowns, picking up his recipe again.
“Yeah, I guess even the fractions.” You sigh back before giggling at his distressed face. “We might have to call in Changbin from next door later.”
-
the cookies
“You want to what?”
Felix looks up at you with his best puppy eyes, his plastic gloved hands clasped together to his chest as he juts his lower lip down in a seemingly quivering pout. “Trust me on this one, please?” He asks while blinking rapidly.
You swear if he was anyone else, you would’ve smacked him in the arm for trying to look cute. Instead, you rub your temples and tear your gaze away from him to the big lump of cookie dough melting on one of your last kitchen bowls. “I mean, adjusting the brownie and cookie recipes was one thing. Now you want to freestyle the cookies?”
“Yeah, well, it’s just the shapes! I’m sure it’ll still cook the same!” He repeats, pouting even harder and even clinging to your arm this time when you try and turn away. “Please, please, please? Pretty please with all the cherries you want on top?!”
“But Changbin and Hyunjin have cookie cutters next door.” You point out, letting him cling onto you and even rest his chin on top of your shoulder anyway. “I can go and borrow some if you w—”
“But Binnie and Jinnie only have those weird heart-shaped ones! I want to do cookies that look like the Gingerbread man!”
You quirk an amused eyebrow at this. “Then shouldn’t we just stuck to an actual Gingerbread recipe?”
“But I want it to taste like cookies.” He argues back.
“It’s from our Shrek movie night last week, isn’t it?” You stifle a laugh, placing a hand over your mouth when he starts sulking while nodding slowly. “Fine, because you’re cute and Chan will can sense when you’re sad from the next building, we can try one first. Just one!”
Your roommate’s face lighten up once more, clapping his hands in delight. “Yay, thank you!”
“But I’m telling you, it’s gonna be a weird-looking cookie when it comes out.”
“It’s fine, we can just eat it for later!” Felix assures with a dismissive wave, finally letting go of your hand to pick up enough cookie dough for his little experiment. “I’ll make a big one that we can share for crocheting later, okay?”
“Sure, I’ll just go and check the brownies.”
-
the amigurumis
Your little cookie Gingerbread man, comically named Yongbok II when you sent a photo of it to all of your friends, lays on the coffee table with all of his limbs and a chocolate chip button on his button up ‘shirt’ eaten. As you’ve predicted, the big misshapen cookie came out looking weird and feeling crusty but it made Felix smile and laugh anyway.
That’ll have to do with letting your roommate experiment for today.
“Wait, pause!” You exclaim when your work-in-progress stuffed fox starts looking weird on a particular row, holding it in the same hand as your crochet hook before pressing pause on your phone with your freed hand. “Did I miss something?”
Felix tilts his head over to your direction, squinting his eyes playfully as he surveys your work up and down before resting his cheek on your shoulder blade and shrugging nonchalantly. “Looks fine to me.” He huffs, scooting closer to you to press play on your phone. “Why?”
You hold your palm up in between the two of you and place your work on top of it, demonstrating the miniscule defect on the pattern. “It won’t flatten.” You point out, letting him poke the orange and white yarn a few times. “It’s not supposed to close in on itself until the tenth row.”
“Have you tried counting the stitches?” He then asks and when you shake your head with a pout, you hear him chuckle and take your work from your hand gently. “Here, let me.”
“It’s at least a hundred stitches now, I don’t want to start all over again.” You sigh in defeat, leaning back on the couch once Felix starts counting the stitches carefully under his breath. “Not to mention, we still have to do five more stuffed toys for the guys.”
You see Felix wave a dismissive hand to you as he counts, holding the crochet circle so close to his face while his current work, an amigurumi stuffed toy puppy for Seungmin, rests on his lap with its tongue poking out. “I’ll do it for you if you want but just this row!” He assures you. “Only if you do a row of my puppy toy, though.”
“But you’re almost done!”
“And it’s only fair!”
Your roommate then looks up at you with a teasing glare, holding our stare until you scoff and give in. “Fine.”
“Justice.” He sticks his tongue out before his eyes suddenly widen, realizing that he didn’t take note of the last number he was counting on. “Wait, I lost count!”
-
the gift wrappings
“I just think it’s more economical to put them all in the same bags instead of having them separate for each guy.” Felix repeats his argument, eyes darting everywhere on the busy coffee table.
“I’m telling you, Lix, literally putting them in one bag with no divider or anything will spoil the food and get yarn shedding all over it.” You scold him as you continue packing the brownies and cookies in small goodie bags. “Besides, we’ll pair the goodie bags with the stuffed toys in bigger paper bags for each of the guys later. You didn’t have a problem with this a while back so why are you complaining now?”
“Well...” He trails off with a pout, reluctantly going back to wrapping the stuffed toys in red and green Christmas wrapper. “I don’t want to wrap these anymore.”
“You’ve only wrapped Chan’s wolf toy so far.” You roll your eyes. rummaging through the mess of haphazardly cut gift wrappings and old ribbons for the only present he’s wrapped so far. As you find it next to the Tupperware of brownies, only then does a realization dawns upon you and you immediately ask, “Hold on, did you buy the greeting cards?”
“Ah, well, Y/N, you see...”

Author’s Note: Thank you to my friend for their patience with me taking forever to get this prompt fufilled! It wasn't from a lack of inspiration. Hot Sauce era gave me a lot of fuel for Jeno!
--------
If Suyuan could make a dessert to represent her cousin’s bake sale, she’d bake a Keylime Pie. The middle school’s front entrance was lined with thick green grass that glistened in the sunlight. The late spring breeze carried the scent of the lime trees nearby, tingling her nose.
The PTA was throwing a Mountain Retreat Bake Sale to raise funds for a weeklong mountain retreat for the 6th grade class. Fen, Suyuan’s cousin, should have been setting up the baked goods under the tent, but the 12-year-old was having too much fun playing with her friends. They were currently bullying a man who seemed to be related to Fen’s best friend, HaeWon.
He wore black skinny jeans and a loose white and black striped knit sweater. His black hair fell over his eyes as he grimaced a smile. He was trying to dance along to an Itzy song, but the kids were booing him as he refused to do “aeygo”. Suyuan grinned as she recalled how she and her classmates would tease their older cousins to do cute dances to entertain them. It was a circle of life to be forced to do cute dances at various points in one’s life.
“Fen, I think we have to set up the lemonade, too,” Suyuan called out, setting a sign down on the table as she stood up. “Give that guy a break, too! We’re helping you for free, you know. I should have told you to buy me Starbucks.”
“Jeno Lee! Jeno Lee! You can’t dance!” Fen and HaeWon chanted. The main bullies had even started a dance where they sashayed their hips. They stopped once their friends began to retreat back to pick up their tasks.
“Thanks,” Jeno Lee said with a shy smile as he walked away from his red motorbike to join her under the tent. “I’m Jeno.”
“Suyuan,” she replied, waving her hand. “I’m Fen’s cousin. How’d you get roped into this?”
“My aunt and uncle helped me with my bake sale when I was 13,” he replied. He began helping Fen and HaeWon line up trays of cookies on one of the white topped plastic tables. “HaeWon should buy me some Starbucks, too, I think.”
“I don’t even have a credit card,” HaeWon replied, looking over her shoulder to glare at him.
“Suyuan helped me bake these strawberry macarons!” Fen exclaimed, setting the cookies down beside the blueberry jam thumbprint cookies. “My mom and I made the shortbread cookies.”
“Did you have to do this?” Jeno asked as he sat down to help make the signs to indicate the prices of the baked goods.
“No, for our school trip we pitched our trip to family members, Shark Tank-style,” she replied.
“What?” he sounded incredulous as he stopped writing on the white board to stare at her. “Your school turned it into a Economy project?”
“It was fun. I mostly used cute pictures of me in my slides and I kept saying, ‘You’re investing in my future and well being,’ enough to make my parents emotional. It annoyed my siblings and other relatives enough that they handed me at least a couple dollars before I could finish my pitch.”
“Smart,” he said, looking impressed. “Do you know how to write DanPatBbang?”
“My mom made a huge batch!” HaeWon spoke up as she pointed to the golden buns wrapped in clear plastic bags.
“Um, no,” Suyuan replied. “We can write Sweet Red Bean Paste Buns. We’ll find someone to write it the correct way. They look amazing, HaeWon! Your mom told me you made the paste.”
“I also brushed the egg wash on,” she said.
Fen and HaeWon took over all the tasks Suyuan and Jeno started. Soon enough, Jeno and Suyuan were seated behind the pastries and water cooler filled with lemonade, chitchatting. They exchanged war stories about their 6th Grade Mountain Retreat. Jeno’s class were locked in their dorms for a few hours as a family of bears foraged around their camp for food the first day they arrived. It sounded more exciting than what really happened, he claimed.
Jeno seemed captivated as Suyuan told an elaborate story about her group’s river raft ride. Their raft capsized partway through the ride, and her group had to walk their way back to camp with nothing but an old compass as help, all of them soaked to the bone. Suyuan had sprained her ankle, and cried her entire walk back to camp, which had been roughly a half mile walk.
“It’s funny now,” Suyuan said as Jeno chuckled into his fist, “but I was miserable for the rest of the trip.”
“How many days did you have your ankle sprained?” he asked, picking up a sugar cookie and taking a bite.
“That’s a dollar fifty,” she said, holding out her hand. His eyes widened as he stopped midchew.
“All I have is my debit card,” he replied, spitting out crumbs into his fist.
“Don’t talk with your mouth full,” she scolded gently, leaning over to grab a napkin that sat behind him. Her chin bumped into his shoulder and she jumped back immediately.
“Sorry!” they exclaimed in unison. She threw the napkin over his mouth as he spat out more crumbs.
“Let me get you some water,” she said, standing up to walk over to the cooler near a table where HaeWon and Fen were standing. They were talking to some of their classmates, Fen staring at the blue haired kid holding a skateboard. “Can I buy a bottle of water?”
When she returned to Jeno, he was biting into strawberry danish. He thanked her for the water, and gave half of the danish to her.
“I’m going to spend $10, and I’ve eaten $3’s worth of pastries so far,” he reasoned, picking up a scallion pancake Suyuan’s mom made for the bake sale. “These are good. I’d love some kimchi with this.”
“Do you think someone’s auntie brought her own jars of kimchi to sell here?” she asked, sitting up straight to crane her neck around.
“I’d smell it before either of us see it,” he said, pointing to his nose. “Maybe in an hour? It’s good to have people filter in late. My uncle says it keeps the flow going and the food fresh.”
“Your uncle gave you economics lessons anyway,” she said, impressed.
As the day wore on, Fen and HaeWon began whistling Red Velvet’s “Red Flavor” whenever they came around Jeno and Suyuan, to the point that Suyuan had to bribe Fen with $20 in cold hard cash to leave them alone. Jeno was very kind and gentle, but his absentmindedness led to a chaotic energy. Jeno’s card was declined when his aunt showed them how to use electronic transactions on her iPad.
He realized he’d been using his Student credit card’s PIN when the card was declined for a third time. Suyuan poured Jeno a cup of lemonade as he had to call his bank to explain why his card had been declined three times. His face was flushed as he took a sip from the purple straw in the cup she handed him.
“Thank you, yes, I’ve got it,” Jeno said after 15 minutes of transferring to 2 different departments of customer service. “Auntie, I think I’ve solved it. I’m going to buy $10 extra for these pastries.”
“It was that bad?” Suyuan asked as Jeno picked up one of the bao buns Suyuan had made with her aunt and mom. “Those buns are $2.”
“OK,” he said through a mouthful of food.
“You never learn,” she said with a grin, handing him a napkin. “Chew, then speak.”
“These buns are so good, I love the barbecue pork,” he said, staring at the red filling. “This bake sale is probably more legit than the China Town in the city.”
“I haven’t been there in years,” she said. “I heard they opened a Korean patisserie near that tacky karaoke bar.”
“Jeno,” HaeWon called out, waving from the playground behind the tents they’d set up, “how do you shoot from the three-point line?”
Some of the kids had arrived with a basketball, and they watched as Jeno made shot after shot on the basketball court. After making a basket from every angle the kids requested, Jeno handed the basketball back to HaeWon. Despite teasing Jeno earlier, it was obvious that HaeWon looked up to him a lot. She showed it in her own special ways.
“Did you want to go get some boba?” Jeno asked, holding his hand out to Suyuan. “My mom and aunt are relieving me of my duties soon.”
“My mom’s on her way, too,” she replied, taking his hand. “Perfect timing.”
When Suyuan’s mom arrived, she eyed Jeno on his red cruiser motorbike.
“Be safe,” her mom said pointedly before hugging her. “I heard Jeno’s quite polite, but...be safe.”
“Oh, mom, calm down,” Suyuan sighed, giving her mom a grin. “You know Jeno’s parents well enough.”
“A motorbike,” her mom mouthed silently as Fen and HaeWon walked by. She rolled her eyes.
“I’ll text you, mom. Bye, Fen! See you, HaeWon!”
“Don’t kiss him too much,” Fen uttered out and HaeWon laughed as the pair ran off at the sight of Suyuan glaring at them.
Her annoyance disappeared as she saw Jeno sitting against his bike, holding out a helmet to her. His grin made her chest feel like it was growing, and she thanked him in a soft voice as she took the helmet. True to the rumors her mom heard, Jeno politely helped Suyuan secure her helmet on, and checked with her that she felt secure before starting the engine to his motorbike.
She pressed her body close to him as his body warmed her. She smelled the blueberry on his shirt, perhaps due to the slice of blueberry pie he’d accidentally spilled onto the left sleeve of his sweater. It took everything in her not to sit up and kiss his cheek as they stopped at a red light.
Once they reached the boba shop near the church one of her aunts volunteered at, Suyuan slowly slipped her hands away from Jeno’s body. She was afraid to admit to herself that she enjoyed her time on the ride with him. It was better than her time with any significant other she’d ever been with, even her boyfriend of 8 months during her freshman year in college.
The church organ music playing in the distance reminded her to stop her imaginations from going too wild as she watched Jeno brush his hair out of his eyes. As they sat on the picnic table near the boba shop, Suyuan asked Jeno questions about his bike, and how he got into riding motorbikes.
“My Engineering final had me do a group project,” he explained between sips of his watermelon slush. “We refurbished an old Honda Fury. We were docked a grade for turning our Shop project into our Engineering project, too.”
“That’s bullshit,” she said with a grin. He laughed in agreement. “Is it easy to ride a motorbike?”
“Easy enough,” he said with a shrug. “You have to go in without so much doubt and fear, and then you’ll be confident in your riding.”
“You’ll have to teach me,” she said, sidling up close to him. “How were we able to miss each other when we were teens?”
“You traveled in the bookish crowd, and I was with the jocks and gamers,” he replied.
“What does that mean?” she asked, feeling her cheeks turn warm.
“We had Algebra 101 together but you were home sick for the first 3 weeks,” he said. “I had a small crush on you, but I never worked up the courage to talk to you. I wanted to ask you to help me with my homework. I’m not good at math.”
“We went to school together?” she asked, shocked that she had assumed that they were mutual strangers when they met that morning. “I’m sorry. My teen years were my confused queer years. I spent all of high school crushing on girls and boys, and I didn’t know if it meant I was a lesbian or bi...or something else along the queer spectrum.”
“So do you have it figured out?”
“Um,” she grinned at him as he threw his arm over her shoulders, “I’m OK saying I’m bi, but I know that things are never set in stone.”
“I’m glad we spent today together,” he said, resting his hand on her chin, pulling her close to him. He kissed her. “I had to wait for my cousin to tease me for you to notice me.”
She laughed against his lips, kissing him as she rested a hand on his shoulder.
“You wouldn’t have liked angsty me anyways,” she admitted, pulling away from his kiss. She wiped her lipstick stains off his lips with her thumbs. “I wasn’t prepared for a relationship as a high schooler. Did your crush return today?”
“It was when you stood up to my bullies,” he said, his cheeks flushing pink.
“Our cousins?”
She laughed before planting a wet kiss onto his lips. He wrapped his arms around her waist, and requested he take her home.
“For the record,” she said, taking his hand and kissing it quickly, “I think I crushed on you at the same moment. You were putting up with the kids’ bullying so well.”
She held on tight to him, relishing the feel of his back as she pressed her cheek against it, hearing his heartbeat against her ear. His body felt firm, and his sweater was soft, although a bit itchy. Once they reached her apartment complex, she got off the bike and handed his spare helmet back to him.
“Thank you for bringing me home safely,” she said. Before he could respond, she kissed him, pressing her tongue against his lips. He pushed back immediately, his lips capturing hers.
“Can I take you out to dinner tomorrow?” he asked when he broke their kiss. She licked her lips, tasting a hint of sweet red bean paste. “No pressure.”
“Pick me up at 6:00 PM?” she asked. She kissed him, and his hand reached up to touch her cheek.
“It’s a date,” he breathed out as they rested their foreheads together. “I should let you go home. I want to be a gentleman today.”
“I can’t wait to see you tomorrow,” she said before caressing his earlobe. She kissed him. “Text me when you get home?”
He kissed her one last time before they broke apart. As she walked up the stairs to her apartment her mind clouded with thoughts of Jeno’s lips on hers. He was warm, like the bright spring sun. The scent that radiated from him was grassy and refreshing, energizing her in the same way the scent of limes did. Jeno Lee was her perfect Keylime Pie.

Six Notable Attempts at Baking the Best Cookies Ever
Three updates in three days????
@mechanismszine I’m only like nine days late for this one! And more are coming!
AO3
(I totally restructured my entire ao3 organization because of an adhd/caffeine fueled breakdown, so please be patient with me)
The Toy Soldier had a mission.
It was a mission of it’s own choosing. There were no orders associated with this mission, no strings attached or people to please. In all of it’s maybe-existence, this was the first time the Toy Soldier could recall having a mission like that.
It liked the feeling, it thought.
The mission was simple enough in theory, but it had been years now and the Toy Soldier had yet to succeed. It was determined, with all of it’s wooden heart, to make the best damn cookies, ever.
The criteria for what made a cookie the best possible cookie were quite simple. If all of the Mechanisms liked the cookie, it had no option but to be the best. The Toy Soldier’s friends had such differing tastes that if it could make a cookie all of them liked, it had to be good. No, not good. Perfect.
~~~
Re-sequenced spinach cookies had been the first attempt.
According to Nastya, the octokittens liked the re-sequenced spinach. The octokittens were known to eat anything and everything they were fed, but the Toy Soldier decided that would be as good a place as any to start. It found an old recipe book in a back corner of Ivy’s library, and found a sugar cookie recipe that seemed simple enough. To make sure there was enough re-sequenced spinach to be noticeable, the Toy Soldier decided to replace all the sugar in the recipe with powdered re-sequenced spinach.
The cookies glowed when they were done, but so did half of them food on the Aurora on any given day, so the Toy Soldier figured they were fine. When it finally found the rest of the Mechanisms and offered the batch to them, only Raphaella agreed to try one. She seemed rather pleased with the result even if it wasn’t as sweet as she was expecting, but she also died seven seconds after declaring so.
As far as the Toy Soldier knew, that was not normal for cookies.
~~~
Gunpowder cookies had been the second attempt.
Gunpowder was most definitely not fit for human consumption, but neither were gasoline and ethanol and Ashes drank both of those on a semi-regular basis. And the Toy Soldier knew that Gunpowder Tim very much liked gunpowder and other explosives. It extrapolated that he would probably enjoy a cookie that tasted like one of his bombs.
The sugar cookie recipe still seemed like a good starting point, and given what little feedback Raphaella had provided, it decided to leave the sugar in as directed. Instead, it replaced the flour with the gunpowder. There were so many white powders required for cookies, removing one seemed like it would be fine.
Tim had taken one look at the cookies, and walked away without a word. The Toy Soldier thought that was probably very rude, but given that half of the cookies had exploded in the oven and the other half made rather interesting clunking noises when dropped, perhaps not.
~~~
Chocolate chip cookies had been the third attempt.
The Toy Soldier had entered the kitchen on the fourth day in a row (the third day had resulted in a failure that need not be discussed) to find Marius already waiting for it. He was sitting on the counter, flipping through it’s recipe book, humming thoughtfully.
“Hello Marius, Old Chap!”
“Oh, Toy, you’re here, good.”
“You Have My Recipe Book!”
“I do, yeah. I thought I might make a request.”
“Do You Have A Favorite Type Of Cookie? I Can Make It For You!”
“Yes! Well, no, but I might!” Marius hopped off the counter and set the book down, open to a page near the back.
“I Don’t Understand!” the Toy Soldier said, walking over to look at the book over Marius’s shoulder.
“I’ve never actually tried a chocolate chip cookie, but I’ve wanted one for a long time.”
“Oh! That Sounds Like A Very Good Idea Indeed!” The Toy Soldier declared, immediately moving to collect the ingredients. “Do You Have A Specific Flavor You Wanted? Raphaella Says That Re-Sequenced Spinach Cookies Tasted Very Good, And I Imagine Chocolate Would Just Make It Better!”
“Um, just chocolate. You don’t need to add anything else,” Marius said. The Toy Soldier thought he seemed very unsure of himself. “Sometimes, simple flavors work best.”
“Well That Is A Lovely Idea! I Will Make You Plain Chocolate Chip Cookies!”
The cookies had actually turned out very well, it thought. None of them glowed. None of them exploded. None of them melted in it’s hands.
By the time the Toy Soldier had found the rest of the crew and gathered them in the kitchen to try it’s latest attempt, the octokittens had eaten all the cookies that Marius hadn’t. Surprisingly, none of the Mechanisms were disappointed.
~~~
Snickerdoodles had been the fourth attempt.
This attempt was shortly curtailed when the Toy Soldier discovered that there was absolutely no cinnamon anywhere on the Aurora, and there were no planets within eighty five light years that grew cinnamon trees.
According to Ashes, the cinnamon-free cookie dough was still rather tasty, but this only came to light a week after the Toy Soldier had scrapped that attempt and obliterated the dough with obscene amounts of fire. It wasn’t sure what cookie dough Ashes was referring to, but it was somewhat hesitant to ask.
~~~
Peanut butter cookies had been the fifth attempt.
The Toy Soldier was quick to learn that Jonny was quite allergic to peanuts, a fact none of the crew had ever before had reason to discover.
For once, the Toy Soldier thought Jonny had a legitimate reason to attempt to throw it out of the airlock. The problem with Jonny’s revenge attempts was that Jonny couldn’t get within ten meters of the kitchen or the Toy Soldier without going into anaphylactic shock and choking to death.
After a week of distanced rage and declarations of murderous violence, Jonny and the Toy Soldier came to a hesitant truce that involved a very purposeful lack of both airlocks and peanut butter.
~~~
The Toy Soldier was on the verge of giving up.
This was a mission it had given itself. There had never been any orders for it to obey, so it could choose to stop at any time. It knew this. It wanted to stop, but it was this far in. It couldn’t stop now. It was so close! It just needed to try one more recipe, and then everyone would love the cookies and it would have made the perfect cookies and made everyone happy.
Hoisting itself to it’s feet, it spun towards the mixing bowls and came face to face with Ivy, Marius, Raphaella, and Ashes.
“Oh, Hello Friends,” it said, moving around them to get to the counter and begin spreading out the ingredients. “How Are You All Doing?”
“We’re good, Toy Soldier. How are you?” It was Marius who responded, voice hesitant.
“Oh Jolly Good, Jolly Good.” There was a brief, whispered discussion from behind it, before Marius stepped forward into it’s peripheral vision.
“Really? Because it kinda sounds like you’re, you know, not so good.”
“No, I’m Perfectly Fine, Marius.”
“Toy,” Marius spoke gently, bringing his hand up to it’s shoulder. “What’s wrong?”
It paused for a moment, thinking. Something was most definitely wrong, it now realized. It just didn’t know how to explain.
“What Type Of Cookies Do You Like?”
“Toy, that’s really not what we’re talking about,” Raphaella said, stepping up to it’s other side.
“I Know, Raphaella. But I Want To Make You All The Perfect Cookies. I’m So Close To Figuring It Out, I Just Need To Make The One More Batch!” It tried to put on a smile, but despite the permanent one painted on it’s face, it could tell the attempt fell flat.
“Why don’t we help you?” This time it was Ivy who spoke. “I don’t have much baking experience myself, but I know every recipe from every planet we’ve ever visited.”
“I’m really good with an oven,” Ashes added. “I even know how to not blow them up!”
“And I’m pretty good with chemistry. That’s all baking is, when it comes down to it,” Raphaella said with a smile.
“It’s really not, Raph, but that’s what I can be here for,” Marius laughed. “So what do you say, Toy? May we join you?”
This time, the Toy Soldier’s smile was much more genuine, and it nodded.
At some point, Jonny and Nastya entered the kitchen, and ended up making a batch of frosting based on an old Cyberian recipe. Brian wandered in just as the first batch was ready, and ended up being the only one who wanted to take them out of the oven. The Toy Soldier was intrigued by the fact that cookies needed to be removed right at the timer. Waiting until the oven cooled down was evidently not right, and explained many of it’s previously burned batches. It resolved to buy oven mitts the next time they touched down. Tim claimed he could smell them from across the ship, and showed up just in time to get involved in a rather vicious frosting war.
At long last, the cookies were ready.
The Toy Soldier could say with absolute certainty that they were the best damn cookies. Ever.

Starlight: an Unexpected Lesson
Word of the Week: Starlight
Baking was not exactly something that Yen’to counted among his skills, but he felt a little obligated to get into the Starlight spirit and this seemed as good a chance as any. Khan had posted a message saying he was hosting a baking class and that the resulting cookies would be given to some needy orphans. Not sure why he is hosting this, but whatever. At least it will not involve getting shot at by Garleans... I hope.
Yen’to and Fehri arrived nearly simultaneously to the Shroudrose lobby, just in time to witness Khan throwing up into one of the planters. Oh gods... well, we are certainly off to a wonderful start. Kaia at least made her way inside late enough to miss the overly warm greeting, followed immediately by Kiari. Without further ado, Khan led them all to the kitchen to begin the lesson.
Khan pulled out a stack of papers that looked like they had all been licked by a goobbue, moist and barely held together. He declared that it was some sort of goblin recipe. Yen’to idly wondered if it was written by Cloudthoughts, the skipper of Khan’s boat who was also present, for some reason. Khan fumbled about the kitchen cabinets, pulling out some supplies for everyone as he read aloud the initial ingredients. Yellow goop? White and brown... poop? Is that supposed to be butter and sugars?
With their supplies all laid out on the counter, it was time to get to work. Which apparently meant punching the butter into submission with one’s bare fist, if Khan was anything to go by. He followed by pouring in heaps of brown and white sugar without even bothering to measure them. The savage - there are plenty of tools to use! Even if I do not know what half of them are, myself. Yen’to leaned over to glance towards Fehri’s side of the counter, and decided to do his best to copy her since she happened to own an actual bakery. At least someone here is competent, hmph.
Moving on to the next step, Yen’to and the others watched with growing horror as Khan began dumping eggs into his bowl - shells and all. He claimed that they added crunch, but Fehri was having none of that nonsense and scolded him, ordering him to remove the shell bits. Clearly, this “class” is being led by the wrong person. I guess I should be glad he has not tried slipping in fogweed... yet. Yen’to soon began regretting not working next to Fehri, like Kaia was smart enough to do. His and Kiari’s batter were looking a bit on the sad side, but still were in better shape than Khan’s clumpy monstrosity.
Finally, it was time to dole out the batter onto sheets to bake in the oven. Even though the kitchen had a perfectly functional stove, Khan strove to stick to the recipe and had Cloudthoughts bring in a different, more specialized one one. Everyone stopped and stared with a mixture of fascination and disbelief as the goblin brought in a rather animated Bomb in a cage, with a solid piece of metal in top to function as a cooking surface. Is that... a bomb?! I thought those explode when they get too hot! Lady Faye is going to kill us if that explodes and we manage to survive!
Despite the objections from everyone else, Khan insisted on baking his cookies on the bomb stovetop. Yen’to and Kaia opted to give their batter to Fehri to use with the non-exploding oven.; except Kiari, who simply stared at her cookie dough chocolate soup in wonderment. Without warning, Cloudthoughts began insulting the bomb to get it to heat up. All eyes turned to watch as it starting growing rather large and hot; it slowly dawned on them that it was getting a little too hot. Leth and Alyona arrived just in time to observe the unfolding disaster with more than a little bemusement. If I die here, I am killing Khan! ... although the bomb will do that well enough, actually.
Khan promptly advised that they needed to compliment it to get it to cool off. The initial attempts were nearly foiled by Yen’to’s accidental insults, but Kiari managed to get it back down to size by... asking it on a date? Khan’s cookies were burnt to a crisp, but in the meantime Fehri had been dutifully finishing up the other batches. Those looked and smelled like something someone could actually eat. The group made some small talk as Khan went to fetch some chocobos, and before long were off with baskets of cookies to dole out to some lucky(?) orphans.
The trip was much longer than expected, since the orphans that Khan referred to resided in the refugee camp just outside Ul’dah. Gods it is so hot... this is what I get for wearing my Starlight coat. Khan seemed quite familiar with the refugees, and led the group over to several clumpings of ragtag-looking Ala Mhigans. They split up to dole out the cookies amongst the refugees, rapidly earning the attention of a bunch of children. Soon, even adults were crowding around for their share of cookies, a few of which looked like they hadn’t eaten in days. I must admit... it does feel good to be making so many people happy. They probably have not had any such generosity from the Ul’dan citizens.
The giving and mingling was rudely interrupted by an incoming barrage of sandballs. Khan’s group scattered for cover, with varying degrees of success, as a gang of children declared war on them. Yen’to usually disliked children, but perhaps because of the holiday mood he instead took up arms to begin hurling back sandballs of his own instead of angrily berating them. Most of the others followed suit, although there was a brief pause while everyone watched with concern as Fehri’s mammet tased one of the kids with a jolt of electricity. Kiari’s eyes were also glowing dangerously red, but Khan quickly de-escalated the situation by clarifying it was all a game. Even I knew that much!
The pretend war raged on for quite some time, with volleys of sandballs flying back and forth. However, it ended as suddenly as it began when a curmudgeonly old woman emerged from a tent brandishing a sandal in one hand, demanding to know what in the hells was going on. The kids promptly scattered like dust in the wind. Well, that is the end of that. Hm... that was actually kind of fun. Not that I will admit that out loud.
Yen’to glanced around the camp, and the pleasant chatter and happy expressions seemed to indicate that they had done their job well. Khan may be a drunken idiot, but I guess he is not -all- bad. Hard to know if he does something right on purpose or by accident, though. This mission may not have ended with any extra pay, but Yen’to considered the rewards worth it all the same.
Then he paused, and glanced down at his sand covered clothes. ... It is going to take a least three baths to get all this sand off, damn it.

Ramen, Baking and Glitter || l.h
Summary: Luke realizes he loves his best friend while on tour and confronts the feelings when he sees her again.
Word Count: 3.5k
Warnings: possibly a few curse words.
Authors note: The italics are Luke's memories of her! After the asterisks (***) is when they're back in LA and in present tense. I hope the format looks okay, I typed this out on my phone. Also the OC is very special to me (more about that in the tags.) I may write more about her and Luke.
- - -
The band 5 seconds of summer have travelled thousands of miles over the years. They've explored new countries, cities, and towns. They've met new fans, friends, and probably too many flirty humans. Luke enjoys every last bit of it, he thrives on the attention. Yet, no amount of love from fans manages to take his mind off one of his best friends waiting back in LA for him. Everything happens to remind him of Sarah.
When the boys stayed in Japan, Michael had demanded to stop for ‘proper’ ramen before they left the country. Of course, no one had the heart to deny him his love for traditional Japanese food. The four of them had been bantering and talking about plans when the longing had struck Luke. He was mid bite of his chicken ramen and all he can remember is the silly heated debate he and Sarah had before the tour.
Sarah tosses the bright orange bag back at Luke and scrunched her nose in disgust. She hadn't eaten all day and upon arriving at Luke's house, she decided she wanted to fix something easy. So naturally, she rummaged through his cabinets and made Luke reach the ramen shoved on the top shelf. When he handed the orange bag to her with “chicken flavored” printed across the top, she felt like she was going to have a brain hemorrhage. Now she just stares up at the top shelf in disappointment, as if red bags would magically appear instead.
“I want ramen.” Sarah tells him with pouted lips.
“You just threw the ramen at me,” Luke says. He points at the bag on the counter.
“Yeah, because that's disgusting.” She makes sure to enunciate the word disgusting. “It's chicken.”
“What do you have against chicken ramen? You like chicken, we literally just had some last night.” Luke questions.
“Ya, we had grilled chicken. It's the flavoring in the ramen, it's weird.”
“What kind do you like then?”
“Beef.” Sarah says. She gives him a playful smile when he rolls his eyes at her, “It is the only acceptable ramen.”
“It is not!” He argues. “You're just wrong, you monster. Chicken is a classic,”
She fake gags, “I have taste buds, you giant oaf. Now we have to go to the store because you're wrong.”
Luke spent the rest of the Japan trip thinking about Sarah. He thought about how much he missed her randomly dropping by his house and pretending she owned it. He thought about how she would've really enjoyed eating traditional ramen instead of the instant kind, she would never want to leave the foreign country. Lastly, he made a mental note to buy the girl all the beef ramen she could ever want and to find a restaurant that serves the real stuff. He knows something so small would make her whole day and he just wants her to smile.
Japan isn't the only time Luke is reminded of the strong willed girl. They had met a fan in Munich who looked uncannily like Sarah and he hadn't been the only one who noticed. If Luke's being honest, he hadn't been paying much attention to the girl at first. She had won some radio station competition and the whole band had greeted her at once before she turned to talk to Michael first. He had taken more of a notice to her after catching Michael's not so subtle glance at the boys and the first thing he had connected was the hair. The fan had her hair honey blonde hair pulled back into a French braid, so what? It wasn't uncommon to see the almost brown hair color and the style was popular. It's not like he hadn't seen it on anyone other than Sarah, he had. It was just such a common sight around his household that he automatically associated it with her.
When the fan had made it to him and pulled away from the hug, Luke felt bad for not paying attention to anything she said. He wanted to, but he was captivated by how she could be a perfect doppelganger. Dark olive green eyes, freckles spotted across flushed cheeks, and a small button nose. All things that looked eerily similar and one look at the boys showed that they had seen it too.
“Holy shit,” Michael said as soon as she had left “That kid looked exactly like Sarah,”
“It's weird,” Calum added. “I mean, all of the features just matched,”
Ashton had chuckled at their surprise, “They do say everyone has lookalikes,”
“Still so weird, especially after not seeing Sarah in months.” Luke said with a shrug. He tried not to think about it too hard.
Three different shows went by without Luke being reminded of her. He thinks it's because he made more of an effort to facetime her at the end of his nights and fulfill his longing to talk to her. When they stop in Paris, he's proven wrong. Luke wishes he could be cheesy and say it's because he realized he was in love with her while in the city of love. Except he realized his love was more than platonic weeks ago.
Ashton had suggested that they go somewhere local for breakfast. So, the duo set out on an adventure for the best place that served breakfast. They ended up in a bakery, ordering an abundance of baked goods and iced coffee. The savory scent of bread mingling with the sweet scent of pastries and cookies reminded him of none other than the girl that he may or may not be in love with. More often than not, she'd spend her extra time using new recipes to bake cookies, cake, and bread. Most of the time she subjected the boys to taste testing, but none of them seemed to mind. There would be days that Calum would be sad to come over to Luke's and find no treats. It was even sadder on recording days when she couldn't make it to the studio to visit and drop off her baked goods. The best days were always when she stopped by.
“Booooys,” Sarah sing songs, “I made some cookies!”
She sits the plate covered with aluminum foil on the desk and sits next to Michael on the couch. Ashton's listening to the producer play back their latest song while both Luke and Calum are diving for the plate to see who gets a cookie first. The sight just reminds her of how childish they can both be and it makes her laugh.
"What kind are they today?” Michael asks.
Luke sits back and looks at the cookie in his hand while waiting for her to respond with her normal rambles about the recipe. Usually she'll tell them all about how the website lied about the amount of butter or come up with an excuse to why ‘the first batch is bad’. He has to admit that he loves hearing her get so passionate over her baking skills.
“I made two. Can you believe it? TWO!” Sarah excitedly tells him. “I made salted caramel and raspberry with white chocolate chips. AND the caramel is homemade!”
"Wait, you know how to make caramel? This is so good” Calum says while waving around the half eaten cookie.
"It's so easy, it's just cream, sugar, and butter. But it burns if you don't take it off the heat fast enough. I may have ruined a pan,” She explains the last part timidly.
Some time during her explaining how to make caramel, Ashton had also grabbed one of the cookies. He just shakes his head at the girl with a chuckle, “Sarah, you'd be a good baker if you didn't burn everything,”
"Says the man who is on his second cookie,” Sarah says with a glare.
"This is the third time you've burnt something,”
“I'm betting that other bakers have burnt things before!” She argues.
The other three stay quiet as the two go at it, both of them living for the argument. For a minute, Luke thinks that Ashton is enjoying it too much. That is until Sarah's expression softens from the furrowed brow to a relaxed and playful one instead. Sometimes he thinks they're both too argumentative and honest for their own good, but it always ends in good fun. He could never understand why they actually enjoyed arguing and often times egged each other on, but as long as no one ends up in tears, everyone let's them hash it out.
“The cookies are really good, Sarah.” Luke tells her honestly. His insides feel melty and gooey as her eyes light up at the compliment.
"Thank you, Luke!” She thanks him in an overly sweet tone, “You know how to be a GOOD best friend. That's why I love you,”
It's possible that Luke had fallen hopelessly in love, not that he'd admit it. He had spent the entire world tour consumed with thoughts about Sarah, always seeking out bits and pieces of her in every place they visited. He even associated her with ramen out of all things. Ramen. He knew he'd have to deal with the conflicting emotions eventually, but he still opted to push them away to have a clear head for the rest of tour. A mostly clear head. All he knew was that it was a future Luke problem.

“Are you really bringing up the brownies I made in 2017?”
“They were MEMORABLE! Gosh, I remember how bitter they were. It feels like it happened yesterday,”
“Cocoa powder is bitter, you little shit!”
The argument can be heard throughout the hallway leading up to the dressing rooms in the Forum. Luke hadn't been expecting to hear the bright voice until later tonight, so naturally when he hears her, it makes his heart soar. Her words towards Ashton sounds harsh, but he can hear the playful hints in her tone. He isn't even to the door and can already visualize her darkened blonde hair falling past her shoulders, her usual makeup, and a smile tugging at her pink lips. He feels like he might explode with excitement.
Luke is right. He leans against the doorframe and watches two of his favorite people argue. She has half of her hair pulled back in a ponytail, purple glitter tapped onto her cheekbones, and the light catches on her shiny lip gloss. Neither of them acknowledge his presence, but Michael gives him a knowing grin from one of the chairs. He doesn't mind, he's just happy to see her again and admittedly he missed their playful fights. It gives him time to think about how he'd admit his love.
Girls are usually the ones to secretly fall in love with their best friends, at least that's how it's always portrayed in shows. Is it weird for guys to do that? Luke isn't sure how he's supposed to tell her, should there be some grand gesture? Just be straight up with no frilly things? He should've bought her flowers on the way here from their last promo video. He just wants her to feel appreciated whether or not she holds the same feelings towards him.
Luke is brought out of his daze by a smaller body colliding with his and warm arms wrapping around his midsection. He envelopes the smaller girl in his arms and gives her the tight squeeze that he's been waiting months for. She pulls back and he smooths down her frizzy hair with a small smile.
“I missed you so much, Luke.” Sarah smiles brightly up at him. The sight is enough to turn his heart to mush.
He just returns the warm smile, “I missed you more,”
“Now that you're here,’ Sarah turns around dramatically and points a manicured finger at Ashton before continuing, “You can protect me from bullies!”
“What's he bullying you bout’ this time?”
“My brownies! He can never be nice to me. I slaved all night for y'all and he brings up the disaster of 2017. I'm so much better now.” Sarah huffs.
She snatches the Tupperware bowl off of Ashtons lap and twirls around to push it into Luke's hands instead. He takes one out and savors the first bite, Sarah watching his every move for a reaction. She isn't wrong, it's much better than the first time when she forgot to add enough sugar. When he makes a noise of appreciation for the sweet treat, her face lights up and she sticks her tongue out at Ashton with a laugh. Luke swears that he could watch her soft features all evening, but he could settle for a bit of time before the concert. The last concert of the tour. Then he could spend the rest of his days talking to and watching her when she visits.
Sarah points her nose up in a mocking way, “See, Luke agrees that they are good brownies. I'm right. Now if you excuse us, I've got to paint Luke's nails!” .
“Luke's opinion doesn't mean you're right,” Ashton tuts.
"It does too! Accept defeat, Ash.” She calls out while dragging Luke out of the room with her.
Luke almost forgot that he had texted asking her to repaint his nails. Between potentially obsessive thoughts, promo, concerts, and trying to be a real tourist; Luke hadn't found the time to find someone to keep up with his nails. He definitely wants them done for the show, so he doesn't complain about their abrupt departure from the boys. Sarah leads him a few rooms down to one of the unoccupied dressing rooms and points at the lineup of polish bottles on the makeup desk.
"I didn't know what color you wanted this time, so I bought nearly half of my collection with me,” She says.
"You didn't have to bring all this, Sarah. You could've just picked one for me,”
“I wanted to have a choice! I think you should pick something new though. No black or red.”
“You're really going to do that to me?” Luke asks in mock distress.
It makes Sarah let out a giggle and roll her eyes, “I'm so horrible, I know.”
It only takes Luke a moment to narrow down which colors he liked best. He really wanted the sparkly red, but he couldn't ignore her opinion when he valued it so much. She wants something different, so he hands her the pastel pink polish and gives her a sheepish glance. She doesn't react badly though, she just gives him a wide smile with her pretty lips and motions for him to sit in the chair.
Sarah gets to work with painting his nails, making precise strokes to avoid a mess of polish. He admires the patience and steadiness required to do such a simple task, because the last time he tried it looked like a toddlers handy work. After watching three nails being covered in pink, he turns his attention back to taking in her features. Her brows dip down into a tiny furrow as she concentrates and he notices the new freckles dotted around her forehead and nose. He figures that she must've been in the sun recently, he's always known that the spots darken with exposure to sunlight. He likes how it just adds more depth to her complexion.
Luke also enjoys the glitter. She tends to save the bold look for festivals and he wants to tease her about how their show must be important. He just finds himself fascinated by how it looks on her and how it instantly brightens all of her features. Of course he wouldn't tease her about it when he thinks she looks so effortlessly pretty. Although the thought of him being the reason for her flushed cheeks is tempting enough.
When Sarah sets the closed bottle back onto the desk, Luke notices her makeup sitting neatly in the corner, probably so she can freshen up throughout the night. He wonders if the glitter would have the same effect on him. Plus, he just wants her close to him.
“What's going on in that brain of yours?” Sarah waves a hand in front of his face.
“I was just thinking,”
She purses her lips at him, “No shit, sherlock. Elaborate,”
"You know how you do your makeup? I was thinking about if I'd look good in it and if the fans would like it” Luke tells her honestly.
“The fans would love it, lu. And we'd be matching!” She gushes. He can tell she's already visualizing the look on him.
"Can you do mine too then?”
"I don't think you could afford my services,” She answers, while already reaching for her makeup.
There's more steps to the makeup look than Luke had originally anticipated. She explains each and every step to him and somehow listening to her explain bb cream ends up being the softest thing in the world. She promised that it'd only even out the redness and he does like how natural he looks. After contouring and adding blush, she finally moves onto his eyeshadow and glitter. He catches a glance at himself in the mirror as she pulls back his hair into a half ponytail and he likes how pretty he looks. The glitter looks nice on him and he matches Sarah perfectly.
Sarah pulls out the gloss wand with a ‘pop' sound and smiles at the man, “One last thing.”
"Thank you. I almost look as pretty as you,” He tells her. He likes how her face flushes a darker pink at his compliment.
"Oh, stop that. You could rock it better than me any day,”
Luke studies Sarah's expression for a moment while she puts her makeup away and he's never wanted to kiss someone more. He's spent months away and he's been consumed by his newfound romantic love for her. Now that she's in front of him again, he wants to kiss her and take her out for authentic beef ramen like he had planned. He wants to watch her bake and compliment all of her new recipes. He wants to hold her tight and never leave her again. He's just afraid that she'll never see him as anything other than a friend. He'd accept any love over none at all, but he'll never know the difference until he tries.
"Sarah, can I be honest with you?” Luke questions.
She looks up at him with wide eyes, “Always. What's up?”
"I think I love you,” Luke tells her carefully. “Tour gave me a lot of time to think about how I feel about you.”
"Romantically?” Sarah looks at him in awe and points at herself, “Me?”
"Yes, you.”
“I'm really not sure what to say in this situation,”
"You don't have to say anything,” Luke rubs his sweaty palms against his pants, “We can just pretend this never happened.”
"No, I mean…I think I like you too. It's just that you're my best friend and you were gone. So I don't know how I really feel? It's easy to think one thing without the person around. Now you're here and what if I just missed you?”
"We can always wait to talk about this,” He assures her, “I was just going to ask you to go on a date with me after the show,”
She gives him a lopsided smile, “What kind of date?”
“I figured I'd ask you to a Japanese restaurant, but no weird seafood since you hate that. I thought you'd like some traditional ramen. We had it in Japan and it reminded me of you.”
"The real stuff? Michael talks about how good it is all the time!”
Luke smiles at her reaction, “Would you like to go with me?”
"You know what? Yes! It'll be fun.”
The boys are finishing up last second preparations backstage when Sarah joins them. Michael and Calum are talking with each other and she doesn't see Ashton with them yet, so she takes it as a chance to talk to Luke. He's fidgeting with his in-ear monitors when he notices her walking up to him, a sneaky expression across her features.
"Being a troublemaker?” Luke raises an eyebrow at her.
"You know it! I just took a break to wish you luck,”
"I always need that,” He chuckles.
The stage managers are rushing around and one speeds by calling out that they'll be on in one minute. Luke gives her a frown, sad to leave in the middle of a conversation. Sarah on the other hand just smiles instead and motions for him to lean down. When the tall boy does, she stands on her toes and places a soft kiss against his lips. His blue eyes widened at the unexpected kiss, but softened after the initial shock. She pulls her lip gloss out and touches up his gloss that she had messed up, not wanting to ruin his look. Luke didn't expect Sarah to make the first move, yet he's the one blushing.
“I-” He starts.
Sarah doesn't let him get a word in edgewise and pushes him lightly towards their other three friends, “I think you're going on now,”
"You look pretty. I'll see you after!” She adds again with a smile at the shocked man.
Luke is definitely in love with her, there's not a single doubt in his mind. All he can think about through the concert is the fact that he's never been so excited for noodles in his entire life. Noodles and his favorite girl.
