this probably sounds so strange, but sodapop crashing out is so important to me.

and everything sodapop touches goes. so he tugs at his hair and wants to rip his eyes out and break all the glassware in the house. he finds the stash of old records his dad used to collect and breaks them into tiny little shards. don’t you dare go into his old room because you are guaranteed to step on glass if you don’t watch where you are going. sodapop isn’t scared when he runs into paul holden on the street. the familiar face of his childhood. sodapop is in fact so happy to finally have a proper greaser outlet. so he throws the first punch. and second. and third. and why isn’t paul hitting back? why is sodapop sitting in an expensive car now ruined by the grease of his kind? why is he back at home and where are the beer bottles that he’s been hiding in his dresser drawer?

why is two-bit always with marcia and why is steve never around? why can’t he just snap his fingers and go. why can’t he be with mom and dad and johnny cade and dallas winston. why can’t he just reach into his chest and tear out his heart and squeeze it. because all sodapop wants to do it feel. he just wants to feel something so real that reality questions him. because this can’t really be his reality… can it? no matter which way he looks, the future isn’t in sight. so why is he here. all sodapop wants is to feel.

OH HELL YEAH that's some of my favorite stuff to draw for DBH tbh! There is something so charming about unhinged coworker dynamics... I say this as someone who has been the unhinged coworker and someone who has heard unhinged coworkers.

I will say that while I didn't have the energy to draw it yesterday for Halloween, the idea that I had was them just alternating who got to wear the Ghostface mask. (I have never seen any of the Scream movies but I do know that there's not a Singular Ghostface, but multiple people)

Like someone would walk past Gavin's desk and he's just on his phone not looking up while Chris is making a work call - wearing the mask. Then five minutes later Chris tosses it over saying he needs some air and Gavin wears it. But the fact it was Halloween nobody really clocks the swap at first just "wow I am REALLY tired I thought it was the other one wearing it. I must really need coffee" and then half an hour passes and they've swapped who's wearing it again.

overall: idk about this album. i went in really excited and so maybe thats why i feel so let down... but i feel so let down. this isnt what was marketed, this isnt anything even real for a lot of it. she's all over the place and i dont think its a tight and solid album -- although monetarily it will obviously look like one. there are moments where we get something very her and very real and i think those moments save the album. the production is also a little all over the place, and so very nothing. im not asking her to do anything fresh or new but why would you market it as if it was and not deliver?

i liked florida!!!, loml, and i can do it with a broken heart -- i think clara bow, the alchemy, and some others (you can tell with my notes LOL) will grow on me. and the tortured poets department and my boy only breaks his favorite toys were good songs, but i think i need a few days to actually acknowledge them as such.

also i think lyrically shes done a few very interesting things. it almost feels like debut with how specific it is and the name dropping and everything -- however it is new/rusty for her so that also kind of hurts her overall. i think maybe this is like good practice for a more evolved narrative lyricism in the future, bc her past mo of hazy visuals and thinly connected moments to string into a narrative just doesnt work anymore.

i will say. she did make me experience all 5 stages of grief plus some fun extras. maybe not in the way she wanted, but i did anyway ! its a fun album and i def think ill like it more as time goes on, but this is my opinion without outside influence and within the first day of listening -- i want to see how that changes! im also holding off on album rankings until a week or two passes
