The Wip ask game

🤡 Eleven wips in all, out of which three are abandoned.

The ones I'm actively working on include Lucky, Deal with the Devil (but it's getting a bit hard to write), Levi's Adventures in Wonderland, a special fic that I'm working on and really wanna post soon, a fic where levihan are kids and it's kinda based on my personal experience lol, a multichap fic I started long ago and intend to continue once some of the wips are posted, a prompt that i received and it'll be a little levihan one shot or drabble, and a fic where one of Hange's experiments go wrong in the most hilarious way

The ones I've (probably) abandoned are,

Restless Spirits - I'm out of willpower to write this even though i had the whole plotline written out and it was kinda good. But i can't continue it for some time at least.

Then an unnamed fic that's from a different fandom than snk. I wanna write this, i just can't get around to doing it. It'll be a long time before i do manage to finish it so it might as well be dead.

And then there was a little idea i had of a fic where Levi and Hange make each other tea under different circumstances that I later gave up on

tbh i don't really do angsty endings bc i want the ending to be happy lol

like i said, all my fics have a happy ending but i think lucky is probably the most like extra-fluffy happy ending. and then tell me something i don't know is probably the most cathartic happy ending purely for the dramatic 100k+ buildup lol.

at this point im not sure i will ever come back to i wanna tell you (but i don't know how) … it's an owl house fic that i started during season 3 but the direction i had planned doesn't feel very relevant anymore now that the show is over

i think dialogue bc i really enjoy writing it and it typically comes most easily to me! i would consider humor a strength too bc i have a very good time being silly

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

big one is speed. I'm just very slow 😔 the writing process is fairly painstaking for me, and it takes a lot of time and effort even to write things that are pretty short and simple! agonies

for the writing itself, i consider myself a pretty simple writer with a pretty simple writing style—which works well for me most of the time, especially since I tend to lean toward humor. but sometimes it feels like a weakness when i read a story with really rich, beautiful prose and i wish i could emulate that a bit more! when i'm trying for something with a more serious tone it takes a lot more effort for me to convey the appropriate level of depth I'm going for and i worry about going overboard and coming off as overwrought or cheesy sounding lol. along the same vein i feel sometimes that my characterization is a bit two-dimensional and i find myself wishing i could add more levels and depth to the characters. there's just a lot i try to balance in my writing and i don't feel like im quite striking that balance every time. which is fine because no one's perfect ofc! i hope this is all stuff i can learn to be better at.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i generally prefer keeping everything in english since im writing in english. it just feels a bit smoother for the POV if there would be no distinction for the character, and i don't want people to be pulled out of the story if they need to google something

Hello! First I would like to say I ADORE your art and the story building around your character and how they interact with Astarion it makes me feel so inspired to keep writing my own stuff!

I did have a couple of questions about your writing process Do you outline, plot, and plan your chapters or do you just write as you go? How do you personally get better at describing within your stories?

I have been struggling not to compare myself to others' writing, but it feels so hard when I look at my own writing, and it feels inadequate in comparison. I wonder if you ever felt like this and how you overcame it.

Thank you! My writing process depends. For the bg3 fics I'm doing, I kind of have a general idea of certain beats I want to hit so I'm kind of just generally following that. The reason I haven't done a proper multichapter for bg3 and am just doing a series of loosely connected one-shots is because the game is so big and I haven't wanted to commit to anything and I'm still developing my oc so it's subject to change (I kinda wanna rewrite some of my earlier oneshots too lol)

For other fics I've written (like the multichap fics I have for dmc) I've gone in for most of them with a general outline, so like a Google doc where i just have shittily written bullet points of the plot beats i want to hit. Even if i don't quite know how it's going to go or if I haven't figured out the ending yet, I generally start from an emotional "hook" I know will be the kernel of the story that i will eventually end up resolving. This is just my approach but I actually don't really like going in with every little detail planned out. I find it really overwhelming and restricting, especially when a lot of really good plot points actually tend to reveal themselves WHILE I'm writing. I know you can risk writing yourself into a corner this way, but I find if i trust my "hook" I can usually have plot holes to resolve themselves. A lot of times I've actually written foreshadowing into my work without even realizing it.

As for descriptions... i feel like my prose still tends to drag out as much as i try to keep things concise... hence why I'm always complaining I end up with an 8k word fics when i mean to write something half that length. Idk it's mostly just preference when it comes to prose. You just kind of develop your own voice for it as you go. I do end up comparing my writing to others too, it's just a thing that happens with any art form i feel. I wouldn't worry about it.

Uhhh im also not a professional writer or anything, I just do it for fun, so take this all with a grain of salt idk if it's good advice lol

I'm intrigued in this SebAgni idea! I was wondering how mute is Seb? Is he completely (no sounds) or just non-speaking? Is it physical or due to mental/emotional reasons? How do they meet each other? Also cause of sinday, any naughty headcanons? I don't know how much you have for this AU yet, but I'm just really excited! 💖💖💖

First of all I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to get this ask!! I mention mute Seb and most people are just like 🤷🏻. 😂 As far as I know, there are only 2 fics on AO3 with a mute Seb!! 😭

(I think I’ll go ahead and answer this ask in 2 parts, so this one will cover the mute Seb ask and the next will cover the sin.day one.)

So I recently read an old Kuro fic I had never read before that had a mute Seb, and it reminded me of an old abandoned OW WIP of mine with a mute character I loved. I re-read the chapters I had written and knew I wanted to resurrect it somehow.

The more I thought about it, the more I saw Sebagni in it, and once that happened, I was like “omg I wanna read this!!” (Followed by the realization that I have to write it first. 😅)

How mute is Seb?

So I’m changing a lot from the original, but this Seb is mute due to an accident that caused his vocal chords to be paralyzed on one side. This means he can’t make any sounds with them, and it also affects his ability to eat and cough (and thus, his breathing if he isn’t careful).

As of right now, I’m thinking he was injured about 10 years ago, so he was born hearing and speaking but now can’t talk. I think he’s probably gonna be like 26-28 in the present of the story, so he was around 16 when he was hurt.

Since then, he’s adjusted—he communicates with ASL, pre-made cards with key words/phrases he always carries with him, pen and paper, or texting/email. He also has an app on his phone that will speak the text he writes, but that isn’t is preferred method. When necessary, he uses video relay for phone calls (he signs and an interpreter voices for him for the other person), but he avoids that as much as possible.

Though he’s “silent,” he can make sounds without his vocal chords, like clicking his tongue, clapping or snapping his fingers. His breathing can also sometimes be a little “loud” since his chords don’t work right, so it can sometimes make people think he’s asthmatic when he’s not.

He’s become very expressive (he already was before he was hurt and now even more so).

He only eats liquids bc he can manage swallowing them easier, but it also means he’s shy about eating around other people/going out to eat with others bc his diet and how he has to swallow (he has to tuck his chin to his chest) are so different from everyone else.

How do they meet?

As of now, Agni is a CODA (someone whose parents were Deaf, and used sign language as their primary means of communication) and an interpreter, so he travels all over the city interpreting for various Deaf people in different situations, and is very active in the Deaf community. He’s very outgoing and amiable so everyone knows him and likes him.

Seb is new to the area (it will likely be set in Houston but I’m not sure yet) and decides that he needs to meet people he can easily communicate with so he goes to a Deaf social, and that’s where he meets Agni, who immediately recognizes him as a newbie and introduces himself.

I think that Seb (who works in IT) will end up doing some work for the agency/relay operator where Agni works, and Agni ends up inviting him to his house for a game night, sort of forcing Seb to accept. (It helps that Agni is hot af and Seb has been lonely for awhile, for reasons...)

So they’re both a little dorky... Seb is probably gonna be very “adorkable” in this story bc I love characters/people like that, lol.

Anyway, I hope that answers your questions!!! My hope is to make this a short multichap around 9-15 chapters and actually pre-plan the basic story skeleton before I start (though I just wanna get to writing). That’s not how I usually work and I haven’t had much success with it before but I’m also tired of having a ton of half finished novels that I’m not sure how to finish!

If anyone else has any questions about this story, I would love to hear them!

I know this is an obscure idea and a ship that isn’t super popular at that, but I’m very excited about this and I would love to answer more questions as I start fleshing the story out!

well, december was....a very busy month. had kind of a hellish start to the month what with a health-related thing (not covid, don’t worry i’m fine dkfjdl) so that kinda sapped my energy for about a week. then ofc there was the holidays and everything. aaand on top of that i had like four writing deadlines (although like....two of them were postponed so that was good haha). 

but anyway! i did at least manage to finish a couple of things––mainly my sylvix christmas fic (“where the love light gleams”), finishing/submitting my “long live” zine piece, FINALLY finishing the altea rising recap summary ... and also finishing one secret thing that is not published yet, but it’s for a fandom i’ve never written before and i’ll be very excited to publish it once i can!

other than that, i mostly worked on the sylvix dreamscape fic and on a secret santa exchange fic that i still have not finished (we extended the deadline to end of january bc like...no one in the group had finished by end of december lol). 

i didn’t quite reach my goal of 250k words for the year, but i mean my initial goal was 150k and i only ended up being about 200 words shy of 250k SO i still think that’s a big win lol. 

as for what i’ll be working on next: top priority is finishing the secret santa fic. but i also hope to keep working on the sylvix dreamscape fic. aaand hoping to edit/publish the klance hotel au by the end of january maybe, since uh i finished a draft of it in november and STILL have not finished editing that so OOPS. and mayyybe will finally delve into finishing the last few chapters of altea rising, and maybe at least start editing chapter 15 but that’s pretty optimistic of me lmao.

all in all, a very productive year! there were some yearly goals i did not reach (i.e. finishing my old klance multichaps.....rip) but i mean, i also ended up getting involved in (and writing fic for) several other fandoms, so i couldn’t really have anticipated that at the beginning of the year. i’m really happy with the two sylvix fics i’ve published so far, and i hope to write a lot more for them this year! 

so yeah... i have a few big projects i want to tackle in 2021. firstly the sylvix dreamscape fic is...already over 30k and i’m estimating it’ll probably end up being a total of somewhere around 50k-60k so uh yeah that’s gonna be a big commitment lol. but i think i’m gonna do the same thing i did with “cover my skin...” and make it a chaptered fic. not sure when i will start posting it but i’m hoping ideally sometime in like late february or early march, depending on a few things. 

i have a few other sylvix fics i also hope to at least start writing sometime this year. one in particular i have had fully planned out for months but ironically have not started it yet even though it was the first sylvix fic idea i came up with... but yeah i might start that one after the dreamscape fic is done. i also have a couple aus that i might tackle, but they both need a lot more fleshing out before i even begin writing them so hmm we shall see. 

besides that... i do really honestly want to finish my klance multichaps even tho it’s been...over a year since i updated either of them and idk if anyone even gives a shit anymore but i’m a completionist at heart and just wanna see them through sooo yEAH. i have at least finished writing up a (very long) summary of everything i’ve written of altea rising so far, mostly to recap myself to make sure i tie up all the loose ends in the last few chapters. i did work a bit on actually writing it in 2020 although tbh i like kinda fell off the rails once i fell into fe3h/sylvix hell BUT i still intend to get back to it because i do still have a soft spot for it and want to finish it. and long story short, i’ve decided to divide up what i’ve written of the last part into like...5-ish chapters so yeah, hopefully i can start posting those at some point in the near future. ....and uhh i don’t think i worked on red skies at all in 2020 which makes me sad bc i still love that fic dearly and want to complete it as well, it just may take me a few months to get back to it but hey if i’m able to update it at all in 2021 that would be great haha.  another thing i’m hoping is to possibly open commissions in 2021, something i said i would do in 2020 and never did but....kinda wanna give it a try, especially because i am funemployed once again. :’) AND LASTLY...i’ve been planning an original wlw YA sci-fi novel for like two years and i would really love to start at least the first draft of it this year....that would be neat. 

so yeah this post is starting to get insanely long but i’ll just wrap up with my 2021 goals and january goals, and...yeah. 2020 sure was a weird year, here’s hoping 2021 is (at least..slightly...??) better.

Fandoms: primarily Star Wars right now! Of course there’s been others I’ve dabbled in over the years, but Star Wars is my steadfast ride or die lol.

Where you post: I post my longer, more involved fics to ao3, and my short stuff from prompts on tumblr. I feel like I consider my ao3 as a portfolio of the fics I put the most time and effort into, and tumblr is just for fun and fulfilling prompts.

Most popular oneshot: Shelter!

Which cracks me up, because while I totally loved writing it, it’s so self-indulgent and kind of plotless lol—basically some classic sickfic, where Obi-Wan and Anakin are trapped in the briefing room while Obi-Wan has a migraine. I’m glad people like it!

Most popular multichap: Roots is my only multichapter fic lol, so it’s the most popular by default. But yikes there are some things about Roots that make me bigtime cringe now (mostly my misguided thoughts about what ‘attachment’ was before I got on tumblr lol, and my stilted pacing and clunky metaphors), even though it’s only been a few months since I wrote it—but hey, such is growth lol

Favorite story you’ve written: Ooh probably In Memoriam. It was the hardest one to write I think, and I remember having to really work for the pacing because there’s so much tension—like how Anakin gets more and more upset, and Obi-Wan is feeling sick but also wants to keep it together to figure out what’s bothering Anakin, etc etc. So trying to figure out the peaks and valleys and all that was a fun challenge.

I also have a lot of love for the fics @katierosefun and I wrote together, like loose stitches—that’s just been such an awesome thing to do, and they all have a special place in my heart!

Fic you were nervous to post: Some Things You Just Can’t Speak About! I’d never written Bail Organa before so I was worried about getting his voice right, and I was worried the Council scene was gonna be flat and boring, and I was scared of making Obi-Wan come across as too fragile, or the Council as cold and unfeeling.

How you choose your titles: they usually come from a line in the fic that points to the theme somehow. I almost always “find” my title as I’m writing—like there’s usually a moment where I write a line and go OH there it is—there’s the title! Either that, or an appropriate Taylor swift lyric lol.

Do you outline? Yup, almost always! I find it helps me beat writer’s block—my outlines are often almost like a really shitty first draft, like the whole story is there in detail, dialogue and all, it’s just super poorly written lol. But somehow it’s a loophole to my perfectionism, cause my brain goes “ah! It’s bullet points! So we’re allowed to write trash!” But gOD FORBID I try to write the first draft without bullet points or brain shuts off and threatens to never let me write anything ever again—

Complete: I have 27 fics on ao3, and I’ve posted somewhere around 24 just on tumblr. So technically 51 total, since I started posting stuff in April. (There’s also the tomb of my unpublished fic from before this year, when I just wrote for myself and didn’t share it, but I feel like those don’t count lol)

In progress: i just started working on a post-Geonosis fic where Obi-Wan as Anakin are both grieving in different ways and over different things. Anakin is helping Obi-Wan cut his hair when it turns into an argument which turns into a breakdown, which turns into some comfort and hugs and happier things :))) I’m also doing some requests, and a fic where Obi-Wan is having dizzy spells, but doesn’t tell anyone about them until everyone finds out in the most dramatic way possible lol

Coming soon/not yet started: waaaaay too many. I have a doc called “sw brainstorm and ideas” and it’s 15 pages of nothing but fic ideas lol. But the few I’ll probably get to soonest are here in this post :)

Prompts: I love taking prompts! Rn I have sooooooo many unanswered in my inbox. I was trying to write 2 per day this week, but I kinda got thrown off yesterday—things just got a little messier in the mental health department, and I needed to take a break from them to help myself feel better. I’m hoping to get back to them soon when I’m feeling a bit more myself, which I’m definitely starting to :)

How do you choose your titles: Slowly and painfully.  The Castlevania fic title came from a quote from the show; the fic of doom’s title is a Dan Wilson song lyric.  The fic of death has a working title but I was too impatient so I posted it anyway -- I still haven’t decided what I actually wanna call it but it sure isn’t “Zombie”.  The whumptoberfic title is the name of a tarot card.  The uppers fic title is a lyric from Parting Glass, which was stuck in my head THE WHOLE TIME I was high on antidepressants and writing the first draft (lol)

Do you outline: When I need to.  I’ve written and lost multiple outlines for the fic of death.  I started that story a solid 3 computers ago so almost all of my drafts are gone.  All I really have is what’s on AO3.

Complete: All the oneshots, the shenko series (fic of doom being the crown jewel thereof), and that one abortive little series I did for Femslash Yuletide in like 2014.

In progress: Oh god, fucking everything else.  I have two Dishonored WIPs that I’m actively writing (the whumptoberfic and the uppers fic), and then I have two 4+ year old Mass Effect fics (the fic of death and my fshenkara control ending magnum opus yeah babyyyyy) that I don’t consider abandoned.  I just... haven’t written anything for either of them since 2016.  Ha ha.  Whoops.

Coming soon/not yet started: I have A LOT of ideas for massively expanding this charming lil tidbit into a giant kidfic epic/political drama spanning DH1, DH2, and the time in between, but that is 99.95% daydreams at this point.  I honestly don’t know if I’ll ever write it.  It’s kind of a big project.

Fandoms: Currently writing fallout since like its still holding strong as a hyperfixation and I made a fallout sideblog SO- let’s go with that. I’ve written for other fandoms, but shit comes and goes man lol.

Where you post: AO3, and very rarely here mostly because I love italics and tumblr does not. The amount of times I’ve had to manually edit in my italics... basically, I’m stubborn and don’t want to look through a wall of text I’ve already stared at for x amount of time just to like post it with no idea if people will actually see it why should I spend 20mins - an hour making sure I got all the spots with italics?

Most Popular One-shot: Not surprised its uh, the one crossover ship fic I wrote back in 2014. So it has age and also rarity in making it the perfect storm lol I don’t wanna talk about it. Good on past me for writing it, but its old writing and I can’t stand it tbh. I’m glad people like and enjoy it. I’m keeping it around for all yall.

I really love the “series” [Echoes of You] I’m writing. While I am jumping around a bit, it feels good and I’m honestly enjoying writing it. Its...definitely self indulgent for a few reasons. I love the paranormal and sprinkling in spooky shit, also taking and repurposing canon that had a lot of potential but fell flat lol

Fic you were nervous to post: Most of my fics I’m nervous to post for varying degree of reasons. Lately tho, I’ve reach the point of saying “Fuck it.” and posting. I’m ya’lls problem now!

How do you choose your titles: Sometimes I use the single word prompt that lead to the fic being created. Other times I just use song titles that relate to said fic in some shape or form.

Do you outline: LOOOOOL not really haha. I mostly have like a general idea that’s written down. Very rarely is shit like outlined...that’s mainly because of like if my brain learns the ending of things then it’s like “oh okay cool we’re done!” and then just walk out the door when shit is nowhere near close to being done. Its that adhd.

my ALL TIME, dearest headcanon is adhd josh. i just. i love my boy so much. i love my impulsive, ridiculously-sensitive-to-perceived-rejection, loud, hyperfixated boy so much. i don’t know everything about adhd, but from what i know josh is TEXTBOOK. or at least he’s a lot like me! and i’m reasonably sure i have adhd. so. i’m REALLY, REALLY into that headcanon and everything about it. (i actually wrote a fic in which i wrote him the way i see his adhd presenting, because i love him so much. hmm, i should write a fic about josh being adhd. what kind of stims would josh like??)

i love and adore josh/donna, like many many other people. i like zoey/charlie, just because i think they make each other happy and both of them deserve that. i... like cj/danny? sorta? i think they’re adorable, and they have some REALLY good moments (no spoilers but. oh my god. danny really out here chugging his respect women juice and i love him for it). but also i am EXTREMELY ATTACHED to cj/toby and more specifically cj/toby/andy.

HEAR ME OUT. cj has EXTREME wlw energy and cj and toby have A LOT of married energy but then toby and andy... love each other so much, it’s so clear, in literally everything they do, i don’t know if you’ve gotten to the end of s5 yet but i cry. so like?? obviously, because i am who i am, polyamory is the answer! basically the rundown is: andy and toby are a typical couple except that they fight a lot. cj is kinda in the middle. if gay marriage had been legal / socially acceptable in the 80s (because god knows this ot3 has been thinking about optics since they graduated college), cj and andy would’ve gotten married and toby would’ve come and gone depending on who he’d pissed off recently, and everything would’ve been perfect. instead, andy and toby got married and it didn’t work because they really just couldn’t function as a unit, especially since their getting married meant that cj isolated herself a bit more. definitely cj and toby have a couple of SCREAMING arguments about the whole relationship. idk.

but just like. imagine with me, if you will, cj and toby... not dating, while working in the white house, but being exes. friendly exes. friendly exes who are still in love with each other and know it. please imagine that and then think about “i love you desperately / i know” and “you wanna make out with me right now, don’t you? / well, when don’t i?” and “we had it good there for a while / yeah, we did” and then join me in the pit of sadness.

(sidenote i have a sense8 au for the west wing and the second story is just me being emotional about their cluster for 5k. i have another story vaguely planned that i’ll probably never write about the development of the ot3 and about their cluster and how it functions. but don’t read that story until you finish... the first half of s7? or thereabouts? actually probably you should finish the show before you read the sense8 au in general if you’re avoiding spoilers.)

(when i say “i’ll probably never write”, i mean “until the next time i get obsessed with the west wing”. which will probably be years from now. oh, well, we can all hope the muse actually does something efficient for once.)

so yeah. those are my ships. i know a lot of people shipped josh/sam, but i don’t really see it? sam always seemed Way Too Straight for that to work lol, although i DO like the idea of sam pining tragically for josh for years just like donna does. (can you tell i read such a winter’s day a few days ago? it’s amazing. i haven’t left a review yet because i have not been a human being recently, but go read it!! it’s awesome!!)

also, i love the idea of bartlet/abbey/leo, although i can’t really visualize it lol. but there’s some amazing fic for them out there. maybe one day my stupid brain will realize the angst potential and actually let me write something for them, hopefully within the sense8 au. (sam also has a cluster! and i would love to write about them! .....but my brain doesn’t do what i tell it to. ever.)

my favorite arc.... i don’t know. i really loved the early seasons, which were a little more episodic, but ALSO i actually really liked the tone after aaron sorkin left after s4? it takes some getting used to, but it’s WAY more emotional, and i am ALL HERE FOR THAT. i definitely have a least favoite arc, or at least a least-favorite way-that-they-handled-a-storyline (spoiler alert: i hated how they handled the end of bartlet’s presidency in the white house. like. SHE’S ALL ALONE IN THERE- anyways. trying not to give detailed spoilers!)

favorite episodes: hmm. i love the thanksgiving episodes. i loved any episode with the ainsley-and-sam dynamic. noel is a phenomenal episode. 26 could make anyone weep. the flashbacks are the best. the fucking- the fucking what’s next motif.

honestly, probably i’d have to say my favorite episode is either 4x20 (evidence of things not seen, for “stupidly noble cluster” reasons and cj/toby reasons and bartlet & charlie reasons. also i feel like there’s some good josh/donna there too but i can’t remember exactly?) or 7x21 (institutional memory, because i’m pretty sure the writers reached into my id and pulled out EXACTLY what i needed from them to be okay with the show ending. jesus CHRIST i have never felt so satisfied after an episode. literally everything i ever could have wanted happened in that episode. i’m STILL reeling. it’s a perfect episode.)

my favorite characters are... literally everyone? i know that’s cheating but i love them all SO MUCH (except mandy and amy, of course). josh is my favorite, always and forever, but i love cj more than words and sometimes i can’t breathe for love of toby. leo and bartlet and charlie and sam and donna- here i was thinking i was gonna resent will forever but i LOVE will. ainsley is an amazing woman. abbey is such a good character, god, talk about a flawed woman who’s allowed to be a good person.

AND THEN THEY MADE ME ROOT FOR A REPUBLICAN. again, i doubt you’ve gotten to s7, but the republican nominee in the last election... jesus christ. i love that man so much. arguably, i’m very biased, but also how D A R E they expect me to root against him. how DARE.

(i swear this will make more sense once you meet him. i just love the actor a lot, okay?)

How do you choose titles: lol agonize over it for a week, go through tons of song lyrics, cry a little, and then pick one random line from a song that kinda sorta might fit? (that is quite an accurate description)

Do you outline: yeah in a messy bunch of bullet-notes and random thoughts that i add to whenever i figure some bit out. so not anything detailed and clever, but kind of a list to make sure i won’t forget something i already thought about.

How many of your stories are complete:  lmao okay so in the current fandom 14 completed and posted stories. overall? if we’re counting all oneshots, even the really short ones, it’s almost 300.

How many of your stories are in progress: five! if we’re only counting the ones i’ve properly actually started and that aren’t just in my idea-file with random disjointed thoughts typed down lmao.

Answer these questions and then either tag five writers you admire or send this ask to them.

What was the biggest challenge you encountered while writing one of your fics?

I guess my two biggest challenges are consistency and confidence.  If what comes out on the Google doc isn’t as majestic and beautiful and natural as I imagine the plot, I tend to want to abandon fics (currently how I’m feeling with Ramble On, but I’m SO CLOSE TO DONE).  And it’s such a blessing to have so many lovely writers to look up to, but sometimes I second-guess myself because my writing will go days/weeks/months without a single comment and some folks get tons of comments and kudos in the first hour since publication.  I’m selfish in wanting a little glory, but it’s something I’m working on.  Fanfic is not a competition, and I need to learn to let go of wanting to always be the very best at what I do.

What fic or fics are you most proud of? Why?

Believe it or not, I’m really proud of don’t you wanna save this dirty little damsel; this was my first multichap fic I’ve EVER completed and felt satisfied with.  I’m also really proud of no fires to light, no holly to tie because that fic is really starting to feel like me coming into my own as a writer.  Also, the fics I did for Kinktober (in particular, Might Just, Red Rum Melody, Moonlight, and Alone).  I’d never done anything like that before, and while it’s frustrating to have to figure out a bunch of different ways to write smut, I had a lot of fun.

What is the longest fic you have ever written?

So far, Ramble On.  If I could only FUCKING FINISH IT.

Is there any fic you’d make changes to? What are those changes?

I would have made Ramble On more of an actual slow burn, built up the plot, added filler chapters that give us more of the daily stuff with Frank and Karen.  But the ending as I’ve been planning it for the last two years is about as angsty as I could’ve hoped for.

What is one thing you wish people knew about your writing process?

LOL, that I have no actual idea what I’m doing?  I can’t physically outline to save my life, so I just end up writing.  I’ve never had an official beta, outside of a time that @catrinasl helped me with some concept work, but I do try to meet every couple of months with some IRL writer friends.  I miss creative writing classes because my favorite instructor would give us these fantastic pieces to incorporate one or two ideas into our own works.  I guess, if there’s one takeaway from my writing, it’s that if I can have no fucking idea what I’m doing and still win a poetry prize or two from a local literary journal, it’s that your writing can climb mountains.

hi! im writing a reader insert character study combo (its multichap, and i dont usually write r-insert multichap fics!). im super excited to be writing it, but i had a question on backstory. so in my fic the reader is zuko/azulas sister, and (without spoiling too much) has a really complicated past. she ran away to kyoshi island around the tile her mother disappeared, ozai was physically abusive and negligent (though i never describe the abuse in detail bc this is set during book 1 on), and she basically had to brave the world at the ripe old age of 11 (sarcastic, she deserved better).

anyway, i was wondering how you typically structure backstory. im the kind of writer that likes revealing backstory as you go, but ive never done that with a r-insert before, so im not sure how jarring it would be to use dreams, references in dialogue, and thoughts to reveal history rather than writing it at the beginning.

i really love your writing, and you do a great job with characters, so even if you don’t answer this, thank you!

hi!! first of all im so honored that you came to me to ask about this, and second of all your idea sounds really interesting!! if u decide to post it on tumblr then pls tag me

backstory is kinda hard, but i think the way that you're going about it is a pretty good idea. i dont think anyone really likes info dumps by characters about backstory, especially at the beginning, so lil bits and pieces here and there in the early story works better. for example, in the first chapter of ehfar there's little hints to what y/n is there for, but the reason is spilled when zuko annoys it out of her (lol) it's a natural way for that information to come out, not just writing it all out for no reason.

when you have a situation like yours where you wanna keep most her backstory secret to both the reader and the other characters in the story (which i assume is ur case), i think it helps to write down her whole backstory so you know what you're working with it, and then subtly let parts of it slip in throughout the actual story before the big reveal. if you're going to reveal parts in dialogue, try your best to make it natural and not just an infodump. if you're going to reveal parts in dreams, try and make them more abstract since that's usually how dreams are.

i have no idea if this actually makes sense or if it'll help you at all, but i hope it does lol. long fics are hard because of how much of a commitment they are and how much you have to keep consistent, so your best bet is planning it all out so you can keep that consistency and work up to whatever reveal you're trying to do with the backstory. i don't plan shit out and that's why everything i do is such a mess. don't be like me lmao

"Misty Mauve" was the very first of your works that I've ever read and the first fic I've ever downloaded and I'm very happy about that. I love rereading it and crying/laughing over my favourite dum-dums: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11.

Oh gosh, I'm so surprised that a handful of people remember this fic even. I kinda cringe to recall it now, since it was my first GO multichap ever and I wrote it before I began to do more research on 19th Century England the way I do now with my regency fics. I've actually lately considered revamping the whole fic and reposting it... Anyway haha 1: What inspired you to write the fic this way? I had just done a re-watch of the North and South 2004 mini-series and got obsessed with it all over again so I read the novel and I thought it would be so fun to make a Good Omens AU fic based on the premise of N&S - and this was before I even knew what a "fusion" fic was lol 3: What’s your favorite line of narration? Seated across from each other in the dim coach, Aziraphale can fully appreciate Crowley’s profile. He liked this new look on him so much that Aziraphale was giddy with the sight of it—of Crowley, his best friend whom he missed so much and thought of every single day since he left Milton. For the past two months, he felt he had been ever so slowly drifting to sleep. Now his soul was wide awake, waiting intensely on each second that passed by. 4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue? I'm extremely fond of the chaotic love confession/proposal scene in this fic, it was very difficult to choose just one tbh :)) but this line from Aziraphale: ��You can undo me with a single word you say, a single action you do. I can think of nothing else but how and where you are and every so often I think of how far away from you I am and I get sad. Crowley, I-I have made a grave mistake.” 5: What part was hardest to write? I remember having a really difficult time with the first two chapters because I haven't written much at that time and it was hard to set up the whole premise of the story. The first chapter is probably my least favorite in the fic, cause I can see now how very long and clunky the paragraphs are, and how much unnecessary information has been shoved in there. Present me probably would want to make that bit more concise and streamlined 6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics? It's my first GO multichapter AND my first historical au fic. I read a primer book on Victorian era life and then just went wild with this even though I still got so much stuff wrong lmaoo

7: Where did the title come from? I had no idea what title to give this fic so I took the title from the song I mostly listened to at the time, which was Tatsuro Yamashita's 'Misty Mauve' 10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story? [Joker Game]. A parody fic that is set in the modern world. It has many pairings, but I remember I also include my Amari x OC ship here lol. I’ve never imagined people really like this? I’ve forgotten the ending thus it’s incomplete *sweating* 3. Auf Wiedersehen [Joker Game]. Sakuma/Miyoshi. Oh yeah, I’ll never forget this. At that time, I was taking the elevator to reach my class, and these two guys came in AND ONE OF THEM SUDDENLY CORNERED HIS FRIEND AND MADE A SMUG SMILE. I was standing beside them and couldn’t process what the fck is happening LOLOLOLOL XD 5. Pernah Denger Nggak? - [Joker Game] OH YES!!!! ... actually I’ve forgotten which fic has the angst ending lol. I’m more into angst with happy ending since I mostly only write about my OTP ((c’mon my otp already suffering in canon, they deserve a happy ending in my fics /stop)).

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Hmmmmm since I adore angst with happy ending and most of them haven’t completed yet, I think the happiest ending gonna be “there’s gold inside a pile of old dust” :>

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve ever written?

I’ve only written one this far. It’s about my three otps (I called it my crossover otps) from different series: Banana Fish, Joker Game, and D.Gray-man. So, the semes actually were voiced by Morikawa Toshiyuki and yes, I made three of them meet in some room (idk too why lol, I just wanna see them together and talk about themselves and realize how similar they are XD). But I’ve been thinking about another crossover au for these crossover otps in a more serious fanfic. I can’t wait to write them XD

Have you ever recieved hate on a fic?

I.... don’t have any memory about this. But, I think I received a very confusing review back then in FFn.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Hmmmmmm I write two kinds of smut: the pwp and the one with a complex plot HAHAHAHAHA XD it’s actually because I was pissed off since many people was “oh, you write smut? eeww. that must be horrible like w*ttp*d piece”. then I was just, “oh yeah? watch me.” then proceed to write 15k words smut with complex and detail plot lol XD But I also write short one like pwp. The last pwp I’ve written didn’t even reach 1k words. It’s Tyki and Lavi having sex in the corner of their classroom (yes, it’s based on Vocaloid song titled “Butterfly on Your Right Shoulder” lol).

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes, I have. But it’s quite a long ago when I’m still active in FFn. The worst part? The one who stole my fic is actually someone I’ve recognized who’s often giving my fic fav + follow. They literally stole my 5k words fic, split it into some chapters, and published in different fandom lol :“)) I still save the screenshot of it. They deleted the fic tho, after my friend left their fic pretending she’s been in the fandom and left a review in the plagiarized fic. I bet they deleted it because they thought nobody knew it was a plagiarized fic, but after they received my friend’s review, they suddenly deleted it.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I almost said no, but then I remembered about my Lucky pairing fic about Valentine’s Day that I’ve translated from Indonesian to English akdhaidhaidhaidhai lord I’m still shaking whenever I remember that fic. I still want to delete it but still haven’t get a heart to click delete button orzzzzz

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I’ve tried collaborating with some of my friends in the past. But the piece that ended up successfully was the Katekyou Hitman Reborn! fic about cloning :D ((lol I really like to make a complex fic haha XD))

What’s your all-time favourite ship?

You don’t want to ask me that, I’m serious. I will give you a long answer like De Grote Postweg. Just, don’t. When I ship something, I ship hard. I’ll post about that ship for 24/7 and will last for years. Just that. But recently I’ve been shipping Lucky Pairing (Tyki x Lavi) from D.Gray-man and still attached to my Amari x OC ship (I call it AmaOC lol)

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

DON’T MAKE ME WRITE MORE AFTER YOU ASKED MY FAVOURITE SHIP AKHDAIDHIADHIAA- But, there’s two fic ideas for Lucky pairing that I’ve been dying to write about. One is about historical fanfic and will take time during Portuguese-Japanese trade. The last one is about smut fic lol.

What are your writing strengths?

Hmmmmm. I’m quite good at making dialogues. Many of my friends and readers mention it a lot. And, I think I’m quite good at describing/making allegory (something about abstract things).

What are your writing weaknesses?

Latar tempat, demi Gusti nu Agung gua tolol bat di latar aaaaaaaaakkkkkkk kok orang bisa sih bikin latar tempat rinci gua jeles aaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkkk orzzzzz

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

THE MOST ENJOYABLE PART!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

*sigh* lord, it’s from 07-Ghost, reincarnation!AU, and the pairing is Frau x Teito x Ayanami HAHA XD

What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

OKAY THIS IS GONNA BE MY LAST CONFESSION I SWEAR ADHAIDHIAIDA. I have plenty of satisfying fics actually. 1) there’s gold inside a pile of old dust [D.Gray-man]. Tyki x Lavi. Historian!Lavi, Noble!Tyki, a bit heavy theme since it’s about the history of Portuguese nobles but also inaccurate. I could say it's my proudest work today. I’ve collected general information about Portugal’s history, and changed many aspects before posting it in AO3 :’DD it took me a year to finish that. No wonder it also became my longest oneshot work with 29k words. 2) agathokakological [Joker Game]. Many pairings. Psyco-Pass!AU. Like I’ve said, I like to make complex plot story lol, so this fic was complex and need a lot of brainstorming sessions XD
