Any tips for getting better at drawing?
Oooooh that is a very broad topic.
If I’m being honest I find it hard to put my art journey (that I am still pretty young in) into words. It all depends on so many things- experience, medium, your ability to understand anatomy, objects in a 3D space, colour theory, how joints work, lineart, comprehensive understanding of form etc etc. There is a lot of stuff involved with art and it would be hard to just compile it all into one topic. But I’m gonna assume you mean drawing as in pencil, paper (or the digital equivalent) and an idea.
My main tip, which you’ve probably seen over and over and over again is just practice. It’s disheartening to hear the same thing repeated until your ears are bleeding but from personal experience, it’s how I improved my understanding of form/linework. But don’t just practice the same thing. Go on Google or Pinterest, find reference photos of real people, trace over the human skeleton, divide complicated structures into easy to understand shapes. There is no wrong way to study art, do whatever works for you!
Another one is to look at other people’s art, see what about it you like and you dislike, and how you can apply that to your own work. Someone use a particular brush for outlines that you like? Try it out! Do you like the fluidity/connectedness of colours within a particular piece? Have a go at it!
And not everything you draw will be amazing, or even good. I’ve been sat feeling frustrated with myself because I couldn’t get a face right, or the way I was drawing a hand looked weird a squiggly, and that’s completely normal! No one posts the fucked up looking pieces of warmup art that they abandoned because they couldn’t find the right angle to draw a character’s cheek bones at (Cough cough). Trust me, everyone that draws has art they will never post.
Finally, progress takes time. It’s a long, frustrating, gruelling process that has massive highs and lows where you feel like the worst artist in the world or the fucking reincarnation of Picasso. It depends on the weather.
For example, my art at the start of 2023 looked like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now it looks like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It took my two years to get that far, and fuck knows what my art will look like at the end of 2025.
Your art journey never stops, it only becomes less confusing and frustrating as time goes by. To everyone that feels like they’re in the art trenches right now, you got this, I believe in you and I promise that one day you will crawl out from the mud and filth with a clear understanding of the colour wheel (because fuck me I do hope I get out of that trench soon)

UPDATE
Hello, dear watchers!
I'm here to give an update regarding the status of PLAYER!Tale AU.
Don't worry! The comic is still being made, but it may take a while. I plan to complete chapters 6-9 before posting and continuing with 10 and 11.
Below the cut is the reason why the comic is taking so long to be posted.
I have already drafted pages for 6-9 and started to lineart Chapter 6. It takes a while because of a few factors;
My test (Is finally finished! Hooray! I hope I pass (ㅅ´ ˘ `) )
My parents came over during the month of my exam, so I couldn't draw much.
Apparently, my college yeet me to work at a company a week after my exams, so I'm now working on a 2 years contract. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
The company requires me to work 6 days a week, with my days off being inconsistent. (it could be any day of the week.)
Health.... I'm not really gonna elaborate on that,
UNDYNE!!!!!! (HER ARMOR IS HARD TO DRAW (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ ) )
I may or may not have created 3 new AUs, ehehehe, pls don't bonk me
My stylus broke so I'm waiting for the shipment to arrive, for now, I'm actually drawing with my fingers aha-
I'll show a tiny progress for chapter 6. Just to show I'm not actually abandoning it (⊃ ˃̣̣̥ ᴖ ˂̣̣̥ ⊂)
Tumblr media
About 130+ pages were drafted (I think...... I'm not sure....)
Also,
Here's Sans! Hello, Sans! ヾ(˶ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ˶)
Tumblr media
I'm showing him because he will only appear twice in Chapter 6 and the whole of Chapter 7 before being gone for the rest of Act I. lmao
That's all for now! I wish to post more, but I don't want to spoil the story and I'm just posting just to give a heads-up of what's happening and not just let all of you think I just up and leave this series. (It's been two months, I'm sorry!)
I'm okay, just work giving me a difficult time. My only savior is milk tea, but the doctor said I can't drink too much now, so that's sad...
(。•́︿•̀。)
Tumblr media
Also, meet Daleth, my personal pessimistic friend, lol. He's gonna appear with my persona, from now on. I'm still debating whether to make him an undertale character or not.
Anyways! Thank you for following this series, I really appreciate all of you for being interested in this silly AU. We've reached 400+ followers now! Yay!!! ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ

Very old drawing! ...and unfortunately I don't like it very much 😭
After finishing Hollow Knight I started looking through what I still had unfinished and along with other Pokemon I found this. This drawing given me several problems the first time: after coloring the background the Unown didn't come out as I wanted. I tried to delete it or fix it and after I abandoned it. I decided to redo Unown separately and glued it on paper on "3D" style; I still don't like it, I overdid it, but definitely better than before. Taking a decent photo and getting the right color and shade was titanic, but it's finished even if prettier in person cwc 🤍
I see I still have one Lapras, one Chimchar, some Detective Conan's drawing... I have two more in mind, actually completely different, I don't know what to choose but I have the lineart ready 😎

Man idk. I haven’t painted in like *checks calendar* eight or so years so I’m really rusty at it. Anyway….. my usual art style hasn’t brought me any joy lately so I’m thinking of doing a complete 180. I don’t think I’ll ever abandon my art style cause it is so recognizably ‘my’ art, but I haven’t had genuine fun with drawing in so long. So I tried painting. And honestly, it felt soooo good and relaxing to just slap around colors without having to care about crisp lineart and such. We’ll see how it goes.

Hi, i hope this question doesn't bothers you, do you have any videos of your process?, im currently starting to learn how to do digital art and have trouble knowing where to start and what to do (im always like, should i start drawing this part first?, is it better to do clean lineart or just paint over the sketch?, do i work on the lights first or the shadows?, etc)
I can probs make you a video on this at some point based on something I'm currently working on, although I have a few on my tiktok already (@ xephia) if that helps!
My process is a bit messier than many other artists - I alternate between stages of sketch and colour before I even think about ‘final colour’. I’ll start with a sketch like the ones below, then slap some rough colour on. This is because IMO colour is an important part of the composition so I want to see what works before I line. They’re not meant to be pretty or social media ready. This stage can look super messy or tidy depending on how I feel or how complicated it is. And they can look wildly different; here’s some examples:
Tumblr media
That stage also helps me decide if I want to finish the piece or if I should abandon it (I abandon a lot). Sometimes this stage takes 15min, sometimes 2 hours, it really depends on the piece. But for me personally, it’s crucial because otherwise I find it very hard to envision how it will look later, or forget what I was planning.
Then, I do at least one more layer of ‘sketch line art’, which is basically a first layer of line art to see what works and what needs changing. I colour the important bits relatively cleanly (usually character/s) and add might some subtle shadows/gradients and/or lighting to get a feel of what it will look like finished. Sometimes I repeat this process a couple of times if I’m not happy with how the first iteration looked. This stage usually looks a little like this character sheet I’m working on, and this slice from a Kiki delivery service sketch:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s usually not until I’ve done all that, that I go over and do the final lineart, making it thicker, colouring the lines, redoing the flat colours, tidying it up, and adjusting where needed. Essentially I don’t start ‘finishing’ a piece until I’m happy with where everything sits and what colours I’ve picked. It’s only at this point I feel like the sketch is ready to line, and lining and final colouring can actually take less time for me than all those layers of planning somehow haha.
At this point I keep tidying, cleaning, lining, colouring, until the piece feels complete. Sometimes complete for one piece is tidier than complete for another, it really depends.
Tumblr media
I’ll also use Procreate’s push tool to adjust things as I go in all steps - it saves a lot of time and isn’t cheating.
Although as you can probably tell from my examples, I do change this procress up a lot depending on the piece! Sometimes I’ll even paint over parts of my final piece like I did in this magical girl street. I think find whatever works for you, everyone will work differently and things like mood, energy levels, how patient you feel, how stressed you are, if you have any hand pain or shaking, and how much free time you have that day to draw can all affect your process day to day, week to week.
Some days it will be easier and more comfortable to sketch messily, other days tidier. Some days you will draw well, other days not well at all. At least for me, I find consistency almost impossible.
So I think there's no right or wrong order to do things and it's great to switch it up and keep things interesting for yourself, and different processes work for different people. Hope this helps!

I just, I LOVE your art, your grasp on anatomy is just so?????¿¿¿¿¿¿ AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS??? Your art is mystical and wonderful and silly and soft like gummy worms idk how to describe it . . .
And seeing you draw other people’s farmers has been so fun! Sorry I’m done gushing, anyways, sorry to be so typical and lame, but do you have any tips on learning anatomy and whatnot?? in the midst of trying to learn myself and I’m certainly having a time.
hiiiiiiiii tyy!! ur so sweet I love a gummy worm vibe 🥺 on my knees for u tysm 😫😫
personally I feel like my anatomy is still very much lacking🧍‍♂️I think im a bad person to ask for advice bc I HATEEEE doing studies and stuff like that. im just soooooo . lazy. and don’t want to do it at all 😋 here r a handful of v general art things that I found most helpful:
1. I abandoned lineart completely bc I feel like it sucked the life out of my sketches ! if I want a more polished look (which I rarely do) ill just clean up the sketch a bit but I never ever do line art 🙅‍♀️ never feel like ur obligated to do a set in stone art process (ig sketch lineart color shading blah blah) ,, maybe that’s bad advice but letting all that go rlly helped me. similarly I don’t like using body guidelines/face guidelines when I draw bc I feel like it makes poses stiff!!! i kind of just dive right in (which is y i think my anatomy suffers a bit whoopsie)
2. I love references 😋 I basically doom scroll Pinterest to get inspo, and don’t feel limited by “art specific” guides and whatnot. other people’s art/regular pics of people just like standing around r so helpful too . like im suchhhhh a proponent of just straight up redrawing someone’s art that u love in private for ur own benefit and learning (without posting it obvi/posting with credit)!!
3. related to references, i usually start every drawing session (?) w very little and quick croquis of fashion pics on Pinterest! I try to make them mini so that it forces me to not go into detail and just focus on overall body shapes and curves .. that can help take a little pressure off each individual part, and it’ll help make ur stuff look more natural 🧑‍🍳
that’s kind of it .. once again omg please don’t take this as professional/good advice bc I know my process can be improved a lot 😭😭😭 this is just coming from a lazy girl that has absolutely no patience for doing muscle studies/light studies or anything else so I still have work to do!!!! but def if u want to know more abt a part of the process (or specifically abt anatomy/muscles bc i feel like I didn’t have much to offer….) more specifically feel free to reach out again !! privately or thru my inbox, either works!

27 and 30 for the artist ask!
~harley
27. do you ever have multiple wips going at once?
Mmn nah, unless it's fanfic. If it's a drawing I complete it before moving onto the next, or it gets abandoned has a doodle sketch.
30. whats something you're proud of about your artstyle?
I gotta say my coloring! Though, Lineart is a nice second since I have tremors so every time something comes out nice and not shakey, it makes me happy.

Your art is very good, but it seems that you make it quite fast(I could be wrong though, sorry for assuming). How do you do that? What does your usual uncleaned sketch look like and how do you achieve such clean and beautiful lines?
hi! thank you so much! ❤ and you're correct, i do draw quite fast. it's a mixture of being hyperfocused on it, and the 10 or so years of digital art experience. the downside is that i have to really get in the mood to draw something, otherwise i pretty much abandon it and never return to it. because of that, doing something in one sitting is the best option for me, though there are some drawings that i spent multiple days on, either because they were complicated (such as the painting pinned on my blog) or because they involved a lot of individual drawings (the grimm cloak doodle page is a good example of this). most of my "lower effort" drawings usually take me a few hours max, so i can do them in one go quite easily
i will say that i did have some conflicting thoughts about for a while, as in, i was worried that my art might appear as "fast food quality" - low effort, fast produced and same-y. i still sometimes worry about it, especially since they do seem a bit repetitive, at least from my perspective, but at the same time, there's no point in forcing myself to spend a longer time on art if there's nothing i can add to it. and i am happy with my current style for those quicker drawings, it's relatively easy to do and i like the final result, so why worry, right? yeah...
as for the process, it depends. sometimes it only takes a quick sketch i'm happy with and i can go straight to lineart, other times it takes me a lot of sketching to get the result i want (since i have aphantasia, it's almost like carving a good looking sketch out of the incoherent mess using a vague idea of what i want it to look like, rather than trying to replicate what i see in my head, if that makes sense). so as a result, a lot of the sketches look messy. in those cases, i make another sketch layer, one that's a bit cleaner and easier to work with. i usually delete the early sketch layer so it doesn't clutter the layers list, but one of my recent drawings still has it so i can illustrate what i mean
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(turning myself in to the art police and admitting that i used a stock image of a couch in place of the base sketch, that's why it looks a lot cleaner in both screenshots hahah)
the second sketch layer isn't "final" either, i often end up making a lot of corrections while doing the lineart. the brush you see in my drawings is the basic mechanical pencil brush in clip studio paint, and i use it for both the sketch and the lines. so in a way, it's almost like a third sketch layer, with the most detail put into it. if you look closely, there are some imperfections, it's not completely clean, but i think it adds to the pencil-like effect so i'm usually not too bothered by it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
then at the end i color some of the inner lines to finish it up and make the outlines pop a bit more, and it's more or less done
i hope this was what you were looking for, i'm pretty bad at explaining things, but hopefully you find it helpful!

hihihi !! came across your tumblr while looking at hermitcraft/life series art (your art is lovely by the way, definitely going into my cool people with cool art collection) , and saw that you use/used krita !! as a krita user, i would love to know your main brushes and canvas sizes, and art process too :D would love to get into things like illustration but no clue where to start ,,
hello! since i get asked about stuff like that relatively often and i'm usually too lazy to answer properly everytime i'll use this ask to answer all of those in one big post :D
Brushes
Tumblr media
i don't think i have main brushes? i jump from style to style quite frequently and i love love love trying out new stuff so the set of brushes i'm using for any given drawing can change drastically but there're a few that came to my mind
Tumblr media
i've been vibing with the first brush the most lately! it's kinda has spray paint feel to it?? but not really? idk but it's fun to make messy sketches with :D 2nd and 3rd are probably the brushes i find myself coming back to most often bc they're just really basic lol
all of the brushes ^ are default krita brushes bc i dont like downloading brushes from the internet so if you wanna find cool non default krita brushes you'll need to ask sm1 else sorry
(btw my advice: don't care about brushes. limiting oneself to a certain set of brushes can also limit the creativity so don't do that)
Canvas Size
Tumblr media
my default canvas size is 2000 x 2000 px and it usually goes up from that if i need other proportions for a piece - basically that means that the shortest side of (almost) any of my drawings is minimum 2000px (2000 x 3000, 2500 x 2000, etc). for pixel art it's the same rules but for minimum of 200px!
social media eats the quality of images really hard so i usually don't see the point of drawing on bigger canvases than that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Art Process
Tumblr media
there isn't much to say about the art process for me bc i'm sure my process is not too different from everyone else's process lol for lineart stuff it's the usual:
super messy, super quick sketch
cleaner sketch (depending on the art style and the vibe i'm going for this step can be skipped)
messy colouring (also can be skipped sometimes; this step is just for myself to find the colour palette i wanna use and to determine whether i like the drawing so far or not so i can change the idea or completely abandon the piece)
clean lineart
flat colouring + shading
adding small details, colouring the lineart, making lighting prettier, etc. (this one cannot be properly described bc for me it's usually a mess of tweaking everything and nothing until i like the final product)
Tumblr media
for lineless stuff i don't have a process - i put pretty colours on the canvas and just,, Pray for the best or smth lmao
it most likely won’t be helpful but i do have youtube channel where i (once in a blue moon) post speedpaints! they might help in understanding what my art process is
and that's it i think? i hope this was useful at least in some way :D it's not the best idea to ask me about any of art related things bc my approach to art can be summarised with throwing stuff at the wall until smth sticks lmao

Can i ask how u do lineart so well,, it looks so smooth,,
I've always been very big on keeping my lineart clean and smooth! :) I'm very inspired by comic and graphic novel illustration, so naturally, I try to take notes from that sort of aesthetic in a lot of my art.
The short answer is that I just have a lot of practice, and am very picky about how my lineart looks. So, I'll often spend a long time making sure it looks just how I'd like it, before moving on, even if the lines aren't necessarily going to be the focus of the final drawing.
The longer answer kinda depends on what lineart you're asking about! The style of my lineart tends to change to fit whatever mood I'm going for, so I have a lot of different line styles with varying levels of smooth-ness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the super-smooth end of the spectrum, we have these bubbly, cartoony lines! These are a pain to draw, to be honest. But they really contribute to giving that cute look :) For these, I used the Clip Studio Paint G-Pen, with some minor adjustments to the settings, mainly so that there's not too much line width variation. The uniform, thick lines are important for this look! :) Drawing in this style really just a lot of trial and error. Usually when doing lineart, I'll erase away at lines to get them to the right thickness, or even just clean up a sketch and call that lineart, rather than doing lines on a new layer. But, that's a lot harder to do when the line thickness has to stay consistent. So, I end up just drawing the same line 7 times over, un-doing my work and re-doing it until i'm satisfied. Again, it's a pain! I used to draw like this a lot more frequently, but I stopped because I found that other approaches are often a lot more satisfying and rewarding. This is still great, for that cutesy look, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, we have what I would affectionately call my ref sheet lines. As much as it's probably a bad idea, I have a habit of just kinda skipping the lining stage of art. I'll just take my sketch, and tidy it up until it's clean enough. But for a drawing where there's only going to be flat colors, that sort of roughness can look sloppy, In my opinion. So, particularly when doing ref sheets, or other art which I don't intend to render, I will actually go through the effort of fully sketching out my idea and lining on a separate layer. The result is a lot cleaner and more deliberate, and looks a lot nicer when colored! Especially if I take the time to color the lineart :) I also really like doing small details with thin lines, particularly body/facial hair, elastic cuffs on clothing, and the seams of clothes, too. I like drawing those little details a lot, and I think they shine the most in my cleaner line style :D
For this, and for most of my lineart, I use these brushes which you can find on the Clip Studio Asset Store:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll bounce back and fourth between these, and Kozmo's Scratchy Scribbler brush, which you can find on Ko-fi!
Additionally, I have a modified G-Pen with a pencil texture that I think I made myself? I don't remember making it, but I also don't know where it came from! So i guess I did, lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A little more messy than my ref-sheet lines, we have the line style which you probably see most often on my page. As mentioned before, I usually kinda skip the sketch step for these? I don't encourage that, it's a bad habit of mine. But I make it work! I feel like the best way to explain my process with this is to just offer you a timelapse of my lineart process:
I just kinda... go. and it works out! most of the time. lots of cleanup and tweaking, and as you can see with Bdubs and Etho here, sometimes I do actually just. do a sketch and then line over it. So maybe I have no idea what my own process even is, LOL.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, to completely abandon your original question here's how i don't do smooth lineart! :D In this style, for the most part, I ignore the cleanliness of my lines, only really erasing with the lasso fill tool, when lines get too cluttered to actually read. Usually I'll only go for this when I'm already planning on painting over the lines. Because sometimes an idea doesn't need or want clean lines, and sometimes I just want to paint some values or slap some colors together and call it a day. Love my clean lines, but scratchy, messy lines are fun too! :)
Not sure if any of this really explained how i do smooth lineart, but I sure did talk about lineart for a while. I hope you could find something interesting or insightful in here! :) thanks for the ask, and I hope you have a great day <3

EXUL WINS (7 votes to 3)
And now we're on to the next chunk of the tournament, and the final batch of the preliminaries! Leading it off with...
M'rai Scourgemaw (she/her) is a gnoll barbarian (wildsoul, formerly berserker), and an ex-soldier. M'rai was trained from childhood as part of an allied force called Blood Battalion that was sent from Sorbekke to aid the Drakonia Imperium in the Three Scar War. As the Strike Commander, she led them in combat throughout the war against their primary targets: magic-users. Then, during one fateful battle something went wrong and she was caught in a magical fallout. She woke up to find herself in a tiny town, severely injured, apparently left behind. It took her nearly two years to heal, during which time the war ended. The Battalion never returned for her. Seemingly abandoned, she began working odd jobs and taking mercenary work, attempting to build a life for herself while she dealt with the grief of losing the only family and friends she'd ever had, and the realization of her disposable nature in the politics of war. Eventually she was arrested for killing a bandit leader who turned out to be the bored son of a local noble, survived a dragon attack, found out she was a literal magical wellspring, and helped stop a coup that would have restarted the war. And she met the remainder of the Battalion and reconnected! Turns out they thought she was dead, as the field hospital they'd actually left her at was completely destroyed!
Braith Moor (he/him) is a shifter from a clan of shifters who were gifted the ability to transform by the archfey in exchange for their services during the Wild Hunt. Braith is albino, and his birth was heralded as an omen, but of what nobody could quite tell. His status made him an outcast, as most of the clan avoided him to keep away bad luck or to avoid making him angry at them or a million other reasons they came up with to justify it. He took to exploring the woods on his own, which led to a meeting with the archfey Arcturius, the Lord of the Wild Hunt. Taking pity on the kid, Arcturius brought Braith under his protection and granted him power and, what Braith wanted more, attention. Braith became like a son to Arcturius and also a loyal hunter for him, the lead of the archfey's hunting dogs whenever the Wild Hunt was on. Eventually Arcturius started sending Braith farther out into the world for him, after dangerous and fascinating prey, and Braith did so with excitement. Also he got a pubby!
Pictures below~

the take
notes from the class:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the take the standard structure of it is the anticipation, the action, and the reaction.
For my take, the animation is set in a haunted / abandoned house and the character will see various creepy things, before getting a big scare from a shadow that grows and then it ends up being just a little mouse with a top hat that comes through the door.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is the rough / thumbnails for the animation. I am completing this animation on toonboom harmony at 24 fps, I will be animating most of this on 2s and 4s, using 1s when necessary for quick actions.
In this animation, I want to try making use of some dramatic lighting and using the torch and the light from the doorway to create a nice effect with it.
After recieving some feedback on the various shots in the animation I have adjusted the timing and order of some of the shots for the take and am now happy with the thumbnails and will start sketching the animation out now.
Tumblr media
I reduced the amount the camera zooms in the first shot of the house, and moved the spider so it was the reason he turns around and not just after he looks at the dripping tap. I also changed the camera angle a bit so you just see him holding the torch when looking at the door making the camera seem closer to him instead of having the over-the-shoulder shot.
Once I got the thumbnails for the animation and my ideas sorted I then worked on the character's design and made a few little reference sheets to look back at while animating.
Tumblr media
i went through a couple design ideas - testing if it should be either a boy or a girl. I ended up deciding to go with the boy. i did think these original designs reminded me of the characters in a game called papas cupcakeria, so I ended up changing them a bit further and ended up with this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-----------
My toonboom files ended up corrupting and I had to start again working from the video I had with the thumbnails, I ended up importing the movie to a new Toonboom file and then tracing over the sketch to create the background.
Tumblr media
After drawing the line-art for the background it looked like this.
Tumblr media
I then did the lineart for the face, starting with the key poses and then doing the in-betweens.
Tumblr media
then after animating the head, I did the same process for the hat and the hair, putting in the keyframes and breakdowns first and then doing the in-betweens.
Tumblr media
And then doing the same process for the body again.
Tumblr media
I then did the lineart for the hands, and then filled with flat colours. i also used nodes to set one of the layers to an 'add' blend mode and then used a softer airbrush for the torch shine.
Using the nodes, I also set the shadow coming out the door to a multiply layer.
Then finally to finish it off i created new layers for shading each section that my animation was split into and adding shading using multiply nodes on the layers and using cutting noted so they only affected the colour of the animation.
Tumblr media
then after finishing the shading i had one layer over the background set to multiply to darken the background and then one layer over the top of the whole animation set to overlay to give it all a cooler tone.
I also added lightning using the same method as the torch light and adding them as an add layer.
I animated the lightning as straight ahead.
Tumblr media
This was my node setup once the animation was finished.
Then finally added the sound effects to the correct places. I got all my sound effects from pixelbay.com .
and this was my final animation:

The Furies Master OC Index
Tumblr media
Created This to keep track of all my OC and published volumes
Vol 1 | Vol 2 | Vol 3 | vol 4 | Vol 5 | Vol 6 | Vol 7 | Vol 8
The Furies is an ever expanding series, with no true end in sight. I started this series while in High School. At first, the series only had Kida. In the end, we decided to add the character Gilgamesh, and then history was made. In this series, my brother helped me quite a bit. I drew the linearts, and I pitched some of the raw dialogue. When the drawings where finished, they where scanned and made into perfect line arts in the photoshop. With that concluded, he puts the shading and the dialogue boxes. It is a bit of a bother to always try to do dialogues boxes on the manga. I feel that it distracts from the overall composition. The first version of The Furies manga was like a complete mess. We had to go back to square one, and start all over. Even when the new Volume 1 was completed, we had to go back and add more pages. Mainly, I added the origin story of both Gilgamesh and this Kida. I also added how Gilgamesh ran into Brahma, or Krishna. When I got to University, I took a bunch of religious classes. Of all the Gods I studied, I developed an affinity for Krishna. He just seemed like a fun, yogurt loving type of God. Since I also like Yogurt, I ended up putting him on the Manga as a supporting character. Krishna has played a supportive role in a lot of Hindu legends. So, the role fits him like a shoe. Aside from Kida, there are 3 other furies as well. They start by being a bother to Gil, and eventually the manga focuses on Kida more. The manga has a huge cast that rivals that of One Piece. I try not to have too many folks on the same page, at the same time. Still, I acknowledge that they exist from time to time. For those that do not know, The Furies are a revenge type of Goddesses. They are known as the Kindly Ones. The represent the past order. They are what life was all about, before the Jury system was implemented in Greece. In their titular story, Orestes committed matricide. Gil killed his father, and did not get punished because he was royalty. It is for this reason that the Furies started bothering Gilgamesh. When I say Gilgamesh, you must take his name with a grain of salt. It is like being named Jesus or something. This Gilgamesh happens to have a friend named Enkiku, which is very close to the name Enkidu. From a normal type of setting, Gilgamesh and Kida get into some crazy adventures in their fight against the Abandons. The human leader of the Abandons is a man named, Gates. He steals the suns from Solar Systems. This makes him a step more evil than Galactus. I can empathize with Galactus. When I get hungry, I feel like I could eat a whole planet. Have you ever been that hungry? I certainly have. Anyhow, the core of the show is the relationship between Gilgamesh and Kida, as it grows as the manga progresses. Before you think this is a sappy romance manga, let me assure it is not. I don’t even think I remember drawing them kissing. The show is an action, comedy. As the manga progresses, I lean more towards comedy, but I am not afraid to throw a bit of action in the mix just for giggles. I also do musical numbers. Every so often, I do little song parodies, or reference songs that nobody seems to remember. I am just trying to keep it fresh as all. If you are not having fun drawing the manga, then how can you expect for the reader to have fun while reading it? Aside from the music, I have like a bunch of paintings and art references. You need to be an art historian to catch all the references I make. I should have marked them when I was making the manga. I eventually forgot most of the names of the works I referenced. Paintings are just easy for arranging scenes in the manga. For now, there is about 11 volumes of the manga. Depending on when you are reading this, there might be more out there. It takes time to publish. I hope you have as much reading the Furies as I had drawing it.

That's how comics work.
I am not trying to be condescending here, but I know you are young and used to stuff like Webtoons, Tapas, etc. Sides that churn out whole Chapter a week. But these comics have a team of people working on them full time. Most of them have even separate people for writing, lineart, color, renderning, typesetting and editing. And sometimes it is just one or two poor artists being overworked to death with minimal pay.
Normal webcomics take years to complete because people have jobs, and aren't doing this full-time. There are multiple webcomics that started in 2018 and have been abandoned by their writers/artists BECAUSE it takes so much times, discipline and passion for art.
The fact that Rusty is still working on her comic diligently, for 6 years now (Leasebound was first posted in July 2018 and turned 6 years old this July), is pretty remarkable. She is fully committed to it, even though she decided for it to be a slow-burn. There are a lot of artists who have abandoned projects years ago who wished they could get back to them and regret not continuing.
It shows her passion for her art. Regardless if you like her comic or not.
I know it must be hard for you to imagine starting a project you love 6 years ago and still doing and loving it now, 6 years later. That's because 6 years ago, you were 12. So I understand not getting what an impressive thing that actually is. And I really don't mean that in a bad way. I am not holding that against you.
You seem to have a good head on your shoulders so I think you are smart enough to already know all of that. But you just want to pretend like its lame to be dedicated to their Art because you are biased against Rusty and want her to stop drawing. So at this point you come off as disingenuous. Your "takes" come from a place of bad faith so you seem blinded by your bias. Which is sad. You seem to like Art and you show a appreciation for good writing (from the little I've seen from you so far), which is why I am still interacting with your posts.
If you are really this passionate about comics and good writing, I would love to see you work on a project of your own. You think Rusty's politic takes and the themes of her comic aren't written the way you want to see them written? You have another POV to offer? Then write it. Make a comic too. If you really think its easy then add your Art into the mix.
At least I promise you, as an artist, that if you ever create something (comic, etc), I would give it a chance if I thought it sounded interesting, regardless of what I think of you personally.
Holy shit.
I just realized.
It's October. Only 3 more months left and it'll be 2025.
Meaning Leasebound will be like- 8 years old by that point.
8 years of this comic. And the main couple still haven't gotten together, and the actual conflict of the story that'll break the doomed couple apart still hasn't taken place.
Jesus Christ.
Leasebound is the Yandere Simulator of webcomics.
