note: so... another WIP gets added to the list days after i posted a snippet of mystified ch2... thing was... i was supposed to write that fic but my american lit professor sent a neruda poem we can work on for finals and i just snapped and re-read it again like 4 hours ago and here is the product of my neruda obsession (i'm blaming spike and spuffy authors for this)

inspired by pablo neruda's tonight i can write

He lifted her closer in his embrace and whispered lines of poetry in her ear. The words depicted her fortitude and compassion. His prose sang praises of her victories, big and small.

She loved me, sometimes I loved her too. How could one not have loved her great still eyes.

Until he had gone out of words. Until he felt the last embers of her warmth seep away. Elijah could no longer find the words. He simply held her and instead hummed a lost song to occupy the silence. It was an ancient song to lull the children into sleep. Henrik had requested it of him the night before he was found dead, torn up by wolves. Elijah barely remembered the words now, having not spoken the ancient language in many years. He hoped Henrik would find it in himself to sing it to her.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines. To think that I do not have her. To feel that I have lost her. To hear the immense night, still more immense without her. And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.

Six Sentence Sunday

So I've never done this, but I thought it might help with some of the stalled WIPs on my list. Hell, I'm not even including two of them. All Spuffy. No content warnings, except language.

Cavalry -- One-shot sequel to Drive (which I finished posting today, yay!), being written for EF's Monster Mash Event

Masquerade -- Buffy undercover in AtS S5. Being written for EF's April Challenge Event

Title: Cavalry

“We need help.”

Buffy drew in a breath, glancing at Spike to see if he’d heard. He had and was already sitting up on the bed, having switched the television onto mute. “What’s up?” she asked, all nonchalance. Just because this was exactly what she’d been waiting for didn’t mean she was prepared.

Title: Masquerade

“You haven’t given any more thought to reaching out to Buffy Summers, have you?” Spike hadn’t known how to respond that day. Fuck, he still didn’t know how to respond, even now that he had a couple of weeks behind him. Every time she asked, the conclusions he’d thought he’d reached would unravel and he’d find himself at the start again. He wasn’t sure how long he’d stood there that first time she’d caught him unawares, going through it all again without saying a word, but Randi hadn’t pushed, hadn’t urged, had just looked at him with her pretty brown eyes and waited for the answer, and for reasons he couldn’t even pretend to understand, seemed to wilt a little when she had it. Those were the moments he wondered if it was all in his head, and she wasn’t nursing a tender spot for the poor vampire spook after all. ******************************************************

Title: Reclaimed

Hopefully, by tomorrow, she could come up with enough interest in seeing her ex to make the drive—or the bus ride, more likely, considering she was living-dead girl and her hard-won license had definitely expired while she’d been expired—even a little worth it.

But Buffy wasn’t going to hold her breath. And not only because it made her think about those minutes she’d been trapped underground, choking on thinning air and trying to punch her way through the coffin and to freedom that had ended up being just another form of prison.

She didn’t want to see Angel. There was no getting around that. She didn’t want to see him and yet, she was going to anyway.

Title: Fracture

The gold chain, the prongs securing the large jewel to the center, the jewel itself, crystally and gorgeous and deceptive because no one looking at that would think, guess, that it had the power to decimate an entire town, stealing the life of the man who wore it in the process. For months now, she’d seen this thing in her dreams. In her memories. She’d rewritten history a thousand different ways, tried to imagine what her life might look like if she’d just stopped at triggering the other slayers. If Sunnydale would still be standing, if the First would be quiet—the balance tipped back far enough that it lost its momentum and faded again into a specter who could do little but taunt from the sidelines. If she and Spike would have had the conversation they’d danced around there at the end, built on unspoken maybes that she knew now he’d never really believed in.

This is probably a weird and random ask to get / send - BUT you're Rosalie fanfics are my favorite BG3 fanfics I've ever read. Like I have forgotten she is not a canon character. (also the fact that you noted Spuffy in your fic and your user name are other reasons why I knew I would love them so much right away) But I'm actually writing because of Dragon Age - because I had never played a DA game before Veilguard and now that I am playing it I totally understand what you mean by the game completely consuming every waking moment. BG did this too for me and I didn't think I would find another game that did so soon. I finished my first play-through and now I have no idea what to do with myself. (probably start a new one I guess) I know you have previously written DA fic, and I would be lying to say I don't have my fingers crossed to some day see your take your take on some Veilguard fic (and lucanis because dear god there are SO many great things to think about there). Anyway - I don't want this to come across as trying to pressure or begging for fic or anything like that at all - just wanted to say I admire your writing and your takes on characters so much and I like hearing / reading your thoughts on Vielguard / DA now too in addition to BG!

hi! thank you for your kind message :) I'm not going to respond to the part about Veilguard fic. If it happens, it happens - if it doesn't, I have a backlog of multiple DA fics you can read, all completed, and my two current WIPs that are still updating.

my thoughts on Veilguard are that I love it and it is consuming my time, like you say. It's not without flaws - I think this is a game that was rushed out in the wake of BG3 hype, not a game that we've waited 10 years for after Inquisition - but I'm not thinking about them too hard. I also think that some of the criticism comes from comparing a game that has been out 2 weeks, to games we've had 10-20 years to think about and make into something else in our heads.

for right now, I just want to have fun. I think the story and setpieces are good, some quests have been phenomenal. I like the characters, and I'm enjoying gameplay. That's all I require from it tbh. The only thing I come back to is the fact that I am having a weird amount of dissonance between how fucking cool I personally think Rook is, vs. their positioning in the group dynamic - they often feel on the outskirts of their own story. which I think comes from more effort being put into interactions between companions (in comparison to the other games), and protagonist interactions being less frequent than Inquisition. I also think that's the kind of dissonance that provides a rich ground for fic, though.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

Hahahaha ok ok ok I'm scared to look but I will. I have 696,369 words on Ao3. That is...so many. And there are way more unpublished!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

So far, I have only written for Stranger Things, other than my one teaser chapter for a Buffy x Stranger Things crossover I really do hope to return to one day.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments?

Always always always!! Even if people just write a heart or something, I write back. When I get a notification that someone commented, it literally makes my day and I re-read them often as a pick-me-up.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Honestly I don't write angsty endings!! I much prefer the happy ones. Closest I've got to angsty I guess is I'm counting the days to the rapture, depending on whose ending you focus on lol

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh GOSH. Almost all of them end on a sugary sweet note, but I'll link flowers and ink because that whole thing is just fluff fluff fluffy fluff

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not really? And I'm super grateful for that because on the few times I've gotten semi rude feedback, it has totally plagued my brain hahaha. I'm thankful that so far nothing too bad. (Please nobody change that!)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I mean, I have, but I don't have anything 18+ on this account very intentionally.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I would, but I haven't really gotten it to stick! One chapter of my Buffy crossover is out, and I have a TLOU crossover idea in my drafts, and there's of course my nearly completed WIP Eddie Munson vs the World, but that's more of an inspired by and less of a crossover. By the way, everyone read that one because it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever written.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I sure hope not! But it's possible, I suppose.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but AHHH that would be very cool.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes!! I co-wrote a Carrie AU with another fandom friend where Eddie was Carrie and Steve/Chrissy care for him and save him after the prom fiasco. It's on my friend's account, because it's got violence and other explicit content, but it really launched me into taking more risks in my writing!

I also started collabing with my bestie @steviesbicrisis on another fic, but then both of us got super busy. Sorry about that!

Me and @withacapitalp also came up with a banger idea for a collab last night so...we shall see!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Oh gosh, all time???? Oh, man. Steddie makes me feral to write, obviously, but to shake things up I'll add Spuffy and Literati (Rory and Jess from Gilmore Girls) into the mix.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

This is so tough because I have thing this where, if I publish a chapter, I HAVE to finish it. But!! There are many things in my WIP folder I don't think I will ever get to, including my Buffy crossover and the one where Dustin and Erica has a time-traveling daughter.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Just like my friend who tagged me, i think characterization and dialogue are my strong suits. It's what I get positive feedback on the most. I also think I'm funny though! At least, in the fics that are more silly lol.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Probablyyyy ummm descriptions? Yeah, that. I've gotten A LOT better about it, but I usually end up writing a lot of dialogue with minimal action because it's easier for me lol

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Okay, so I've done it, and it's TOUGH. It was for deaf Steve (tagged above, it's my most popular fic). ASL was especially challenging because it can't really be written down, so I had to get creative.

In one fic, any time a character spoke Russian, I just italicized it and made a note at the beginning that mean it wasn't in English canonically. I am not fluent in Russian, so I didn't want to risk relying on Google Translate! Plus, I'd have to write the English part anyway for readers.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I think. Technically. It was...ha ha, nope. I don't even wanna say it.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

This is so hard, they are all my babies and I put so much care into them! I'm gonna give a shoutout to Back to the Future (Hawkins Edition), as I always do. Now that it's been done over a year I can see the flaws in it and what I would have done different, but the amount of planning and thought and research I put in that thing deserves recognition lol. I think my current long project, we can be heroes (aka part 2 of deaf steve!), could take over as the biggest undertaking, though. But so far it's probably about equal lol.

I have a thousand-word essay in me about this which I may sit down to write and post eventually. short version, the role of "other" languages in my own day to day speech is significantly different from how most characters in fics would experience "switching" languages, and my thoughts on this in fic are changing as I think more about that and where the line is between that and Gratuitous Foreign Language TM

He regarded her as if she wasn't his mother, as if she was nothing to him at all. "Joyce."  "William—" She watched his gaze snap over her shoulder and at once, the piercing cold melted into warm fondness as did the trembling tension in his body. "Hello, cutie." "Will!"  Buffy barrelled past her, leaping in his arms and she wasn't afraid, she trusted him to catch her. William staggered a few feet back from the impact, wrapping one arm across her waist and the other held her bottom to prevent her from falling. "You're here. You're really here."  William held Joyce's gaze, a muscle in his jaw twitching as if to dare her to scold him—to remove him once more out of his Buffy's life.  "Never gonna happen, love. I'll be here forever. I promise."  Buffy sighed happily, enjoying the feel of his warmth, his hands on her. Joyce sighed in resignation, turning away from the challenge in his eyes.  "It's cold outside. Come in." At this, William grinned. "Thanks, mum."

Now, all it ever does is haunt her every step and shadow surrounded by men who knew every crevice of her body. They knew her better than she ever did. (It is the face that launched a thousand year curse, damning the girls that carried it. Reduced to nothing but objects in a man’s eyes. Katherine was right. I am always right. She hears her taunting giggle and sees her twin’s knowing smirk. I told you so. Nothing could ever bring more joy to her evil doppelganger than proving that she was right.)

"Okay, 20 questions." "Go." "Who's your favorite?" "Favorite who?" Kol groaned. "Favorite Mikaelson sibling," and looked at her bashfully, like he was expecting her to… say his name? "Rebekah." He yelled out an indignant cry, "What a load of bollocks! You're telling me, after everything we've been through, I'm still—" "You are a favorite," She cut him off.  "Really?" He gaped at her, astonished.  "My least favorite." She bit hard on her tongue, seeing the sheer disappointment and anguish encroaching on his face. And somehow, his voice had gotten louder, belting out at a higher register than Mariah Carey. "I rank lower than even bloody Niklaus?!"

i do hope to be as productive as i was in 2022 when it comes to publishing fics cause i'll really wither and die if i don't manage to publish these four.

Character Ask: Buffy

General opinion/How much I care about them: THAT'S MY GIRL THAT'S MY FAVORITE GIRL THAT'S BUFFY ANNE SUMMERS!!!! she's so funny she's so brave she's got so much love and rage and despair inside of her. She kicks so much ass and suffers so much and cracks so many stupid jokes 💕💕💕

A ship I love: it's Fuffy for me, that can't be a surprise after 100k words of published fic and my entire truly insane tag for them. But yeah. Yeah. I like them a normal amount (<- lying)

A non-romantic relationship that I love: i already talked a little bit about Scooby friendship so for this I'm gonna say Dawn! They're so funny together, when they fight it feels natural, but they love each other SO much and when the show puts their relationship center stage it always works for me

The NOTP: NOTP feels too dramatic for how I feel about Spuffy but ngl it's weird sometimes to be in this fandom experiencing total and complete lesbian immunity from Spike. Literally just over here like 😐. I mean objectively I get it! I see the appeal of his character and that ship! It does absolutely nothing for me, and the only parts I find very compelling are just what that relationship says about Buffy herself. Sorry :/

My biggest headcanon about them: I can't keep just saying "they're bisexual" for this answer I can't I can't (she is tho 💕) - okay but aside from that I really do think guidance counselor would have been a good career for Buffy. I think if you follow comics canon to at least just the establishment of the slayer school, then a lot of the same soft skills she would have employed as a counselor get put use training newbies (outside of a life and death apocalyptic time crunch I really do think she could be good at it)

An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: (if I have none in my WIPs I'll make one up on the spot!) God I have so many fics I wanna write 😭😭😭 I've talked a bit about it before but my Very Ambitious And Intimidating Dream Fic is this season 4/5/6 rewrite that begins with Faith being held captive by the Initiative in s4. In the s5 part of the fic I really, really want to explore how much would be different (and how much sadly the same) for Buffy if she actually had a supportive partner and a backup slayer while dealing with losing her mom and fighting Glory. It makes me crazy to think about it.

Something that makes me think of them: (a song, a character in another fandom, an animal, anything) any time I see a cool axe in media I think "wow, Buffy Summers would have loved this"
