idk if i told you guys but i got a laptop. this is my first time using a personal desktop computer since 2019
#my last one took an insane amount of water damage! and then i spent £300 getting it repaired only for the repair guys to break the keyboard#it struggled to turn on after going to sleep so i had it playing music 24/7 to keep it on#it ruined my spotify wrapped that year#the album was by Im a Robot and Im Proud if you're curious#anyway that was a mac and now i have a gaming laptop#its so luxurious#no more writing on my phone#i feel like the world makes sense to me at last#now that i have Lap Top

Got my Macintosh IIsi running today on an original apple color monitor, so satisfying to see. It even has Photoshop 2 on it as well as Illustrator 1988 (the first version of illustrator was released in ‘87!), this thing is a real gem. Now I need to work on my Performa 6300cd (just to the left)

#maan it took me like 2 hours to take this dell laptop completely apart#and reassembling it back into a new chassis only to find out the chassis i got doesnt have the keyboard light slot for the ribbon cable#thats on me to not paying attention or taking apart my dell laptop to compare the parts#but in the end it works just as new#not only did i change out the chassis but i even put in a new screen 😭#i had to remove so many small screws all different sizes and positions#take the mother board and move it to the new chassis 😭#made a couple mistakes but nothing too serious#it was my first time doing this without any real guide ahahaha#bruh it was task no cap#but at least the laptop looks and feels completely new#next up is adding a 2nd ram stick#then figuring out how to remove this firecuda from this heatsink so i can move it jnto the laptop and run a virtual box#just for the chance i get a virus i can just delete the partition from the hard drive and not have to reset my whole laptop completely#then i could probably run some emulators for ps2 or 3 games#i needed this windows laptop for the off chance i need to use windows for certain applications and i can finally stop using my mac#to virtual machine windows on it to use windows taking up half of my ram cpu cores and storage LMAO#i now freed that up#next up is waiting for my soldering machine to get here so i can fix this ps5 controllers with halo affect analog sticks#which would mean never having to worry about stick drift any longer#i now patiently wait#personal#about me

will say, the one good thing about my laptop being kaputz is that my brother has apparently taken pity on me and is loaning me his very nice, very fancy PC and I will perhaps do something wildly inadvisable while I have this PC at my disposal (try and play through all of bg3 between now and whenever I get my Mac back)
#LIKE don’t get me wrong#my mac got the job done she did so well she made it though the whole game#but a fancy pc???#I could have it all. I could do the whole game with no weird buffering or egregious graphics glitches#this is a one in a lifetime opportunity to use a good computer I might just have to do it#if you’re wondering why I can game on this pc but it doesn’t fix my writing issues#it’s because I only have scrivener on mac and ios#so we’re still tethered to my ipad and Roger the Bluetooth Keyboard for that

working from home today
on account of the giant snowstorm barreling down on us, and while it was nice for a change that I got to sleep late and didn't have to drive to campus and can wear pajamas and have TNG on in the background while I work, I wish to complain about the complete inadequacy of my workspace at home. Even setting aside the parts of my job that I physically cannot do outside the office, I really, really miss having a second monitor or even a big screen. I'm doing a collections analysis that involves multiple spreadsheets and my little laptop screen is not cutting it.
#it is nice that i can use the mac keyboard shortcuts again though#my work computer is a pc#the giant storm and impending sub-sub-zero windchills also mean i don't have to go up to michigan until after christmas#which is actually kind of nice#all i want for christmas is some me time

i need a new computer. i know i need a new computer. i have the money and the resources to get a new computer right now. i know exactly what kind of computer i want. and yet i Will Not Buy A New Computer
#I don't want to leave MacOS Mojave :(#i want my 32 bit apps! I want to play my little bird game :( :( :(#my current MacBook is 7 years old and it's starting to have keyboard problems and flexgate stage lights#and Mojave is no longer supported by Apple or by anybody else#so like... I KNOW I need to upgrade. I KNOW#but then I'd have to get used to a New Computer#where things aren't exactly how I like them#and the design of the OS is Very Slightly Different#my current computer has 4 thunderbolt ports so you can charge it from either side!#the newer Macbooks only have 2 thunderbolt ports on ONE SIDE!#like all of these changes are so very minor but I know they're going to drive me bonkers#besides I've been meaning to get around to playing Songbird Symphony for *checks notes* five years#and I can't do that on a newer Mac#like it doesn't matter but I WANT THAT OPTION#I guess I could buy a Windows machine but then I'd have to get used to Windows which would be even harder#and I want to take advantage of the Apple trade in and education discount deals#ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i hate technology i hate technology#why can't I have one (1) computer For Ever And Ever

worst thing about doing digital art is seeing it on another monitor
#okay so like my set up is my desktop that i use for art which has its regular monitor and the tablet monitor#and then when i have the tablet monitor in front of the desktop i have my keyboard pushed off to the side#so then i have this macbook i had to buy for online classes like 9 years ago on this folding table to the other side so i can search#for reference and/or procrastinate#and the mac makes things look soooo bad
