It must have been one of those days; where everything felt off-balance. Levi always saw. He could tell by just a glance your way the morning before.

Another day of feeling as though every sight before you became dull and muted in appearance. Unnoticeable, nearly, while you disassociated. And yet somehow, all at once, the more noticeable everything became, making you paranoid and panicked.

He could figure out your tell-tale signs well enough by now, from his own curious observations over time. Occasionally, after some time of letting you sort it out yourself, he’d talked it over once or twice with you. He’d asked you how exactly you felt on days like these; days where your eyes stayed wide and brows raised in an expression of alertness, even as your jaw clenched and hands shook, your eyes glazed over as you kept yourself in near constant motion. He knew the signs, and what they meant.

You were spiraling again. Sensory overload, dissociation…He hadn’t seen it so bad in you before.

Always moving, always forcing yourself to focus no matter how shallow it made your breath...He hated seeing you in such a state, when you wanted to focus on anything but your own thoughts.

Sometimes these moments lasted a few hours, sometimes even just one. But often, they progressed into days of forced hyper focus and constant activity to draw yourself away from your own mind, busying it with tasks and work.

But this time…this time, it had been weeks.

It hurt him to see you so stressed, no matter the situation.

And so, one such morning, following another rough night, he took the liberty of disengaging your alarm for the morning. The simple press of a button, he hoped, would keep you asleep for just a tad longer. Your mind needed the rest of a couple more hours, he reasoned.

After only a second’s hesitation in which he still held your phone, he also sent a quick email to your employer; some excuse about being unwell enough to not clock in today, and warning about a possible similar hinderance for the following day.

'If you need more information, feel free to message my emergency contact, as he's looking after me today while I recover.'

He sent the email, slightly smirking to himself as he turned your phone off and set it back onto the nightstand.

He would handle it for you, as much as he could.

Pulling the covers up over your shoulder, Levi slid out of the bed soundlessly.

With you still soundly asleep, he went about tidying up what he could around the apartment, keeping any noise to a minimum to ensure you stayed asleep.

'A clean space helps clear the mind,' he'd always believed, and as such he wanted to provide you with such a fresh start today. Whenever you chose to wake up, that is. He wouldn’t enforce it today.

It wasn't until late morning he heard movement from the bedroom, your weight shifting over the creaking bed as you stumbled out in a panic moments later.

"My alarm, I must not have set it-" You'd started, obviously anxious as you raced to throw on a new top and a pair of jeans.

Before you could get to slip anything off, Levi’s hand found your shoulder, softly holding you in place.

"Don't worry about it, love. You have today off. Maybe even tomorrow, unless I get a call."

He mumbled, gently taking a jacket from your shaking hands.

You stared up at him blankly for a moment, completely in disbelief.

"...It's Wednesday. I work a 9-5, babe...I'm not off today; it's not a holiday." You tried to protest weakly, but once again were silenced by a slender finger against your lips.

"I know. I called off for you, though. Besides, the shift started three hours ago, so there's no need to bother going in now. Just take a seat, breakfast is half done."

Still regarding him in complete bewilderment, you hesitantly took a seat on the couch and watched him meander back towards the kitchen, returning his attention back to the stove. It was only then you noticed the array of pans neatly set on the hot surface, and the toaster on the counter already slotted with bread. The smell of frying foods wafting over to you, causing your stomach to protest weakly.

When was the last time you’d focused on a full meal, instead of eating a few small bites here and there throughout the day?

It wasn't long until he'd plated the meal, and brought you a plate with a cup of tea to pair it. Once you were settled in with your plate and utensils, he sat down on the couch beside you with his one of his own. He'd never been fond of eating on the couch, you knew, so this must be a 'special occasion' of sorts.

"...Why?" You eventually mumbled between bites of toast and sips of tea, digging in the moment he’d sat.

He swallowed the bite of scrambled eggs from his own plate before answering, a napkin already in hand to wipe away any invisible cooking greased from his lips.

"You're stressed out, baby. I've seen it for several days now. Relaxing evenings after work weren't doing it, so I wanted to give you a full day's worth, instead."

"...I'm fine. Life is just rough sometimes-"

You'd started, setting down your mug to weakly protest his concerns; but he easily held a hand over your wrist, lowering the warm beverage from your lips.

"Then isn't it my job to try and make life a little less strenuous? One day off won't kill you, and won't impact the income too greatly. We can manage; but your mental health can’t, not like this.”

He sighed, setting your mug down onto the coffee table for you.

“Just relax, yeah? Relax, and let me handle today for you. It’s the least I can do, for all that you always do.”

Huffing quietly in muted amusement, you smiled his way, eyes welling with unshed tears. Tears of silent relief.

“…I haven’t had a work day off in ages, maybe months. Two days a week are nice, but…”

“…But not enough sometimes. I know sweetheart. I know. I can see it in you. So just relax today. We don’t have to be productive every day.” Levi reassured softly, keeping his hand around yours.

“Hell, I’ll bully your boss into giving you another day off-“

“Levi I need this job, you can’t,” you giggled, leaning against his side and curling up onto the couch.

“…But thank you, my love. I think I needed this,” you finished in a whisper, briefly closing your eyes.

“I know you did.” Levi stated calmly, running his free hand’s fingers through your hair.

“Just rest…I’ve got everything else. I’ll deal with it for you.”

what the mech fight between hoeru and kuon alludes

well i'm just gonna say it, it's sexual assault. when tega june is on top of tega sword, kuon is on top of hoeru. tega june forcing herself on tega sword (in a way that can be shown on a children's show) that's kuon forcing himself on hoeru. kuon is just as into the ¨romantic¨ aspect of this fight as tega june is.

this is some insane writing choices for a super sentai show but it's brilliant. i love it. a lot of jpn fans have pointed out the domestic violence themes and in this episode it's heavier than ever. an intense, sensitive topic that miss inoue handles with grace and as much brutality as is needed and allowed.

during the mech fight, i gripped onto my chair so hard that my hands hurt.

i literally paused and screamed and then needed a moment to collect myself

EDIT: i saw some takes on twt that irritated me. saying that this was a poor word choice, some implying that Inoue hadn't thought this through or that it was just for shock value.

I highly disagree. Every uncomfortable thing Kuon has done has a reason behind it. He's obsessed with Hoeru. Hoeru, to Kuon, is the weaknesses that made him experience some sort of trauma (yet to be shown). At the same time Hoeru is Kuon's last way to feel hope and love. He's amazed that Hoeru has remained so kind. He wants to control and protect that, to regain some of the stability and love that he had as a kid.

despite what i've written above, i don't think Kuon is romantically or sexually attracted to Hoeru. I don't think he would literally rape him. as mentioned, domestic violence and abusive relationships are themes in this show. by alluding to sexual assault in the mech fight, Inoue both illustrates how messed up Kuon is and furthers the conversation about these themes.

of course you can hate it and be disgusted by it. obviously you're supposed to be. i just don't want people to think that Kuon is some yandere character meant only to be a hinder and spectacle. you can have other interpretations than me. even argue if you want to if this is appropriate for children (i think it is) but you cannot say that this was a poor word choice.

i am very surprised how much fun i'm having with Kuon. how much i'm looking forward to what he does next. partially because i can't predict it, and because he's a well-written character with well-written taboo subjects (incest, dv, sa). as my friend said, the mech fight is a good jumping off point for parents to talk about consent with their kids.

rn i trust Inoue's vision and i hope i will still be trusting it in 10, 20, 30 episodes from now.

My name is Cory and I'm working on a rewrite/ adaptation for modern audiences (me). Mainly cause I love the world of oz and also because Glinda says she's not going to molest a girl and people keep ejaculating everywhere in the 2nd book.

I also want to make the queer themes and characters more prevalent in a way that'll upset conservative grifters, and adding a bit of cultural diversity into it as well, cause Baum was, ya know.

But besides that its a rather straight forward adaptation that changes up some of the character relationships, and adds some, such as the Wicked Witch of the West (unamed send help) and Mombi being sisters, with Wicky being older,and Wicky and Glinda being exe's who never really broke up (no idk what a wicked is). Also adding a bit more depth to the characters, like ozma having some bitterness towards the wizard, and the wizard being kinda really shitty.

Also mombi and the wizard are like, a thing its funny cause wicky hates it.

Also all the non-ozians are from different times periods

Dorothy is from the 1900's

The wizard is from the 1970s

Button Bright is from the 1940s

Betsy is from the 1990s

Trot is from the 1930s

okay so small rambles about this <3

i really really really like how it turned out first of all. i decided to try and do like a different rendering style between baby 1x and betrayed 1x. I used betrayed rather than regular bald 1x bc i really like betrayed 1x, alsoooo I think they better fit with the themes I tried to get across heeere ^_^

Since baby 1x is in the past and all, he gets a more dreamlike painty rendering, while the real 1x is more solid and present. I just like the idea of 1x mourning his child self, it’s interesting to me. I love 1x and his strange strange relationship with shedletsky/telamon. also i realized ES pretty well fits 1x, adding song that to the ever growing animatic list that i probably will never create

originally it was meant to be like a projected image, but i couldn’t for my life figure out how to make that work. like k actually tried for over an hour to get it right but it wouldn’t. give the effect. it’s whatever, i think i like it better as it is rn anyway. i have several hcs for 1x that are displayed here!!!!! one that, considering baby 1x is essentially a thing made from telamon, he has some features resembling him. hence the head wings! Why does grown hateful 1x not have those wings? removal of certain features that resembled telamon was part of the agreement between him and the Spectre for him to be forsook without fighting [the first few times according to my hcs, he managed to evade the Spectre’s attempts, kinda like Dusekkar as in he was literally too powerful for the Spectre to Forsaken].

Marge from my beach au + au info

STOP LIKING MY OLD BEACH AU POSTS THEYRE SO UGLY OMG😭

AU summary so far:

Beach au is based on the episode about Lisa’s birth and them moving that takes place in 1984, but I changed the timeline to the early 2000s to fit my personal aesthetic. The episode is supposed to be summer themed, but there’s nothing summer about it besides Homer and Marge watching the 1984 Olympics that took place that summer. So I therefore decided to create beach au, which is a completely summer themed timeline.

Backstory:

Because their family is about to expand again, Marge thinks it’s time to move houses. After a long discussion, they decide to relocate to the beach to give their child (and future kids) the childhood they didn’t get. As a kid Marge grew up in a strict conservative household, and the beach vacations her family took were her favorite escape. So why not let her vacation last forever, and let her kids experience what she loved most too.

But this presents problems among the family. Both adults have to switch careers if they’re moving states away. Marge is hesitant especially because she’s expecting, and not many jobs will take her work. Homer is worried because, despite both parents being in work, the power plant gave him most of the income. They used all their money on a house by the ocean, so what’s next for them?

After borrowing money to pay off the house, Marge gets a job as a waitress, and Homer finds similar technician work nearby. But they’re still adjusting to life at the beach. They don’t really know anyone, and their families are so far away. In the end, they find good friends with similarities to them, even if it takes time.

Marge and homers info:

Marjorie Bouvier is 38 years old, she’s like 5 feet tall and French. (Well half French, her dad’s side). She’s married to Homer, has a son named Bart who is one, and is about to have twins (but she doesn’t know it quite yet).

Job-wise,she works at the mall. Despite being almost 40, she wants to go back to college and discover a career that would support her family better. She’s considering pursuing teaching. She was a model throughout her 20s, but is now retired and hates when people bring it up.

She’s French, (on her dad’s side) and it was the first language she learned until she had to learn English to go to school. She has two sisters and a brother and she’s very close with her brother. Her parents aren’t really part of her life tho.

She has several hobbies, including painting and sewing, but she also has a book club she leads along with principal Skinner and she likes going out bowling with her husband and supports his garage band :3

For Marge’s design I like to make her look very 2000s, since that’s when the flashbacks take place. Her hair down and curly suits the 80s stylization of the episodes, and as a personal preference I make her a little chubby since realistically after having a child she would not look like that, plus we need better representation for plus size people. Ngl I think Marge would be naturally ginger love me or hate me.

Homer Simpson is 36, he’s married to Marge Bouvier and works at the power plant still, although it’s further away now. He’s 6ft tall and has a lot of defining scars from his job at the plant. He’s southern bc he grew up on a farm with his family, and he’s kind of a hippie because that’s the only stuff his mom ever really taught him. He’s autistic (as in canon), and is REALLY into music. He has a garage band with a couple of his friends, and he also used to be famous just like his wife before they got married(barbershop quartet).

Homers backstory isn’t much different than in the show, just like Marge he has a bad relationship with his parents, his mother DID abandon him, as seen in canon. He still talks to his brother somewhat though. Homer definitely tries super hard with baby Bart to give him the childhood he didn’t have.

For homers 2000s design, I still keep it simple, but I added a lot more silly patterns and stuff bc it suits him well. He’d wear lots of graphic/band tees and jeans, also polos with shorts. Marge cuts his hair herself and he has a tattoo on his lower back, matching Marge. He doesn’t like it but got it because she didn’t want to do it alone :3. He also has his triple bypass scar from the season 5 episode.

UMMM TAILED BEASTS AND THEIR JINCHIRUKI OK LETS SEE

I've had (and posted about) a few scattered thoughts ab both the tailed beast and their jinchuriki before, so let's see what I remember off the top of my head

I think Utakata is contender for my favorite Jinchiruki— we don't see much of him but what we do intrigues me. I'm a sucker for a man in slutty, slutty robes and his bubble ability is both interesting and cute to me. I wish there was more content for him

Other than him tho, Gaara is ofc, fucking amazing as a character. I think his entire situation is a great example of the lengths people will go for power, and how willing some parents are to destroy their own children in the hopes of power.

Its a theme that fits in very interestingly specifically in the earlier chapters of naruto, when we are seeing the shinobi world from the shiny eyes of children, who think the whole thing is "cool" and treat the many tiny tragedies and traumas of the adults around them as much more lighthearted than they could be read as. Idk, it's fun to think about

I know we all joke about how "oh its stupid of people to have mistreated the jinchuriki, they're literally walking nukes just be nice to them omg ur signing ur own death warrant rn" but it's easy to see in text why people are so scared of them— especially civilians

They're walking nukes! They have demons in them! The propoganda machine works overtime to make people fear jinchuriki, both on purpose (other villages fear mongering) and just due to natural cultural beliefs (literal demons in rural Japan. The fear writes itself.)

I do think there's an interesting middleground there of like. A jinchuriki being treated with kindness literally only out of fear. Which is still better than blatant abuse, but also still fun to think of the ramifications of being raised like that

I think it's also interesting to see the difference of how many jinchuriki were treated in their villages— some for sure got it worse than others, even if there was a solid through line between all of them of different degrees of "people are scared of me and no one fucking likes me"

I do wish we'd gotten more of the jinchuriki's all together, I love fics where they get to come interact together as some sort of messy family.

Similarly, I love the biiju as just. The world's most dysfunctional family. They are so fun as characters, most of them just want to be left the fuck alone but have no issues with flattening humans if they come too close and I love this for them

I think the relationship between biiju and their jinchuriki are so fun, they are both victims here, they are both justified in hating eachother. But if they are able to overcome that hate and get along— its just really interesting to see. That takes some real strength, on both their parts.

A human trusting a demon, a demon trusting a human. Its desperation that got them there. Desperation and exhaustion and a wish to be free.

The tragedy really writes itself

I've read several fics that take an angle of "since the biiju were sealed, the natural balances of the world have been thrown out of wack" where they'll have things like nature getting more violent or common yokai having dissapeared in the years following the biiju's sealing

I think that's super, super fun and I personally like to use the hc of "yeah no, yokai were super common like ~60 years ago but then Hashirama sealed the Biiju and they all just kinda of dissapeared in the following years. Almost like they sensed the absence of the big spirits and went into hiding in response"

Super fun! Instantly adds several fascinating implications about the naruto world and how it works and how the biiju interact with it by just existing

I also love, love, LOVE to think about the initial reactions to the biiju being sealed back in early konoha. Bc like. Ok so you have this culture, this Japanese culture, that largely revolves around the spirits and respecting them in the hopes that they will leave you be. Generations of people raised with the rules of "leave yokai the fuck alone"

And then you go and have your leader seal one of THE biggest yokai inside of his wife.

The bad karma is off the fucking charts. I refuse to believe everyone just nodded and went "wow what a great idea! Nothing bad could possibly come from this!"

No, no, there were for sure different camps of people who were different levels of horrified / disgusted / terrified / etc.

I think maybe the younger, less superstitious, more ambitious and power trippy people might have been some flavor of pleased, while the older more superstitious people just. "Oh god what have you DONE what have you LET INTO OUR HOMES!!??!"

I imagine that in the following year, Hashirama had to work overtime in appeasing people for fear as whispers of "this village was a bad idea, look now we've gone and angered the kyuubi. He will break free and kill us all and we'll deserve it for being such fools as to try and keep him sealed" grew louder

I remember someone told me that in the manga, we got a couple panels of where it looked like the uchiha had made a shrine to the fox after Kurama was sealed? Which just. Fascinates me. Because it shows that there was some sort of effort made to presumably appease him, which, again, oh man the implications

And then ofc Hashirama goes and gives all the other villages the keys to getting their own Biiju. And people start to fucking hunt them.

And then all the yokai are dissapearing and the bad omens are only getting worse and—

Well, you get the picture.

Anyways, yeah. Early Konoha and general shinobi world reactions to the biiju being sealed fascinate and delight me in equal measure. There's so much room there for practically anything ur gay little heart desires

Oh on that topic, I think it's also interesting to think ab like. Maybe at first, the jinchuriki were genuinley revered. Again, like, culturally, most people are gonna see (especially big) spirits and start trying to appease it so it leaves them the fuck alone, right?

So just. Thinking ab how at first, the jinchuriki were treated with largely (terrified) respect. Especially when they were no doubt first put into already respected and powerful people.

And then, yk, time passes.

People get more used to the idea of jinchuriki as more "honored demon containers" and more "demons themselves."

Jinchuriki are placed into children. Jinchuriki are used in the war effort. They're given names. Faces to fear. People who have killed loved ones— put into bingo books besides other shinobi, just another man to fear.

Theyre... human.

(Theyre hated.)

Nost yokai aren't around anymore, and while many still give their respects at shrines and crossroads, its not with the same urgency and genuine belief as before. Many of the new generation pay no respects at all, and the lack of consequence from the still gone yokai does nothing to convince them to start

It becomes easier and easier to let the "terror" to win over "reverence."

Anyways just. The changing of attitude towards jinchuriki as they become more normalized as just another person over the years. Also something that's fun to think about

sooo i decided to TRY and participate in objectober 2024, because these are. good motivators and stuff i guess and good ideas so i dont have to keep cramming ideas in,, thiugh. i do have a lot my heads gonna explode probably…its long so, cut! i missed two whole days already, so i might as well post right now. i think. it hink its okay,, a new prompt everyday is tiring!! so. without a further ado

DAY 1: OBJECTSONA grenade counts, right? i think people would just do whatever oc. anyway, angel grenade!!! i love grenade with religious imagery/themes/whatever!! (again, despite my very love/hate relationship with religion,, eapecially catholicism.) did you know that yesterday, when i drew this, waa guardian angel day?? I DIDNT KNOW THAT?? pretty ironic if you ask me!! can you guys imagine grenade as a guardian angel? whom would they guard? okay ill stop rambling now ALSO NO LINEART!!! all my homies HATE LINEART!!! (really only rei and milly but…)

DAY 2: FAVORITE SHIP okay, i dont really have a favorite ship, but i love these two dearly. theyre shoer underrated. the coloring made it feel like i used crayons,, which. i like drawing with crayons btw bcuz im a loser. mop really loves his boyfriend…hes a bit obvious about it i liked the circle btw. it was a good cricle i wanted to keep it ☹️

DAY 3: RECOLOR i didnt know what to do…this counts, right? i mean, each of rubys sisters is a recolor. sorry if this is wonky, i cant draw limbs if my life depended on it!!

miss mao! i'm so glad you're back~ (also i'm loving the blue and white sakadays theme you have going on... very summery (and almost refreshing?) !!)

i'm not sure if this kind of question is annoying so please ignore it if it is! Recently i've been trying to write more (I began just recently), and i wanted to know how you always write descriptions and metaphors so well? I don't know how to explain it but they feel very revealing of the character's different facets and their motivations. Or like how zero-sum game repeatedly mentions the ways in which u are aventurine's (but with a different nuance/depth each time).

you aren't being rude at all, though tbh I can't really give very good advice because my writing has been a little garbage lately 💀 here are some general tips:

read authors whose styles are close to the vibe you're looking for, and study their works with an analytical eye to see how they're executing their descriptions and characterizations - what you like about them, how you would write something similar. I really like hanya yanagihara, ocean vuong, and I have a complicated relationship with haruki murakami lol (love the style and storytelling but not the stories themselves). margaret atwood has her moments. sometimes I do also study the really standout fanfic authors that I read HAHAHA there is beautiful talent everywhere in this whole wide world

you have to write mindfully, with precise intention. read over every sentence and ask yourself if it reveals something new about the character or situation. read every word and ask yourself if each one is necessary. double check every metaphor and see if it is helping you communicate something meaningful or if it's actually obfuscating details. if you cut out waste and streamline things, then it's easier to arrange your words elegantly imo

(as an aside this is actually why I choose a few central motifs that feel very effective to me and focus only on those. hence my fics tend to have repetition - I return to the same metaphor and elaborate on it more each time.)

I write a disgusting amount lol. a lot of it is not very good HAHAH but it helps most of all to practice and experiment with your words. that way, you can also figure out what you hate about your writing and what you like about it, and improve it accordingly.

I WANNA PREFICE THIS ALL WITH I HOLD RESPECT FOR THE CREATORS OF THIS MUSICAL, ITS NO EASY FEAT TO WRITE LYRICS, COMPOSE MUSIC, GATHER ARTISTS, AND HAVE DO MANY COOL ARTISTS COME TOGETHER TO WORK ON A PROJECT,,,

SPOILERS OFC FOR ‘Stories from Styx’

okay so EUGH WAIT I FEEL REALLY MEAN RN,,,WAIT UH I JUST WANNA SAY IM BEING HONEST AND NOT TRYING TO BE AND ASS OR HATEFUL,,,UH PLZ DONT HATE ME FOR MY OPINIONS PEOPLE D:

personally i feel like the music was lacking overall—-artists who are genuinely talented had their voiced muddled by autotune that clashed with the instrumentals. the storytelling was f i n e

I will say some quotes from the songs were catchy or impactful. The two songs that stuck out to me thr lost being ‘There is no name’ and ‘Crossroads’,,,,, but there were several segments of the musical that was just instrumental and had to be relied on animation to tell the storytelling is,,which isn’t the job of a musical.

however my main issue relies with the over all story

the plot of ‘The Story from Styx’ revolves around Persephone and Hades.

IF U DONT KNOW THE STORY OF PERSEPHONE AND HADES HERES A SHORT VERSION:

Persephone (daughter of Zeus and Demeter) is abducted by Hades (with thr assistance of Zeus) and forces her to be his wife. Demeter, heartbroken, goes through a depression causing crops to perish and famine to rise, to the point even the gods notice and try to get her to restore the harvest. Zeus is able to convince Hades to let Persephone see her mother. Prior to leaving the underworld though Hades feeds Persephone a pomegranate. After Demeter restores the harvest, happy seeing her child again, Hades pulls up and wants to take Persephone back to the underworld. Both Persephone and Demeter are confused and Hades explains by eating the pomegranate, Persephone practically signed a contract forcing her to stay in the underworld for some portion of the year and remain his wife. The months were Persephone is gone her mother lets the crops die. The whole myth basically says explains away Winter and Summer.

in ‘Stories from Styx’ the creator portrays Persephone and Hades relationship as consensual, as something they both want but her mother dislikes, which irks me the wrong way if you will. There’s also the fact that Hades is Persephone’s UNCLE.

I love passion projects, theres something to en said about someone who loves something so much there willing to put time and money and sacrifice for it AND ITS SO COOL when story’s and fables can be told in unique ways—-and i do truly believe this could have been good if the creators did not romanticize Persphone’s abuse.

I wanted to stray away from comparing this musical to epic but i feel like i kinda have to in order to get my point across. Epic derives from thr Odyssey and is about 75% to 80% accurate to the original stories details, all of which being relatively minor things. Both creators started from thr same point of needing to compose their own music/re-tell a myth, higher good singers, and commission artists.

One creator had a theme however, a message—-connections from previous songs and sagas into new ones to tell and over arching story. The other one didn’t

I really wanna like the ‘Stories from Styx’ but i fear i just cannot get behind it, this could have been SUCH A GOOD tragedy but i feel it lacking—-missing feeling and verging on monotone.
