The Significance of Kitty & Minho Bookending Both Season 1 and Season 2 in XO Kitty
Yes, I'm here again with another analysis because why not?
So previously, I mentioned the term bookending. & I just thought that it would be nice to elaborate on that.
So firstly, what is bookending?
It is a storytelling technique where a narrative begins and ends with the same event, character interaction, setting, or theme. It is a method that is often used to create symmetry, reinforce themes, highlight character growth, or foreshadow key relationships.
Storytelling is rarely accidental—especially in romance-driven narratives like XO Kitty. One of the most deliberate yet overlooked narrative choices in both Season 1 and Season 2 is how Kitty and Minho’s relationship is bookended—they are the first and last people she interacts with in both seasons. This framing technique is often used to subtly highlight a relationship’s significance, and in this case, it strongly suggests that Kitty and Minho’s story was always meant to be a slow-burn romance.
When two characters are both the first and last interaction in a season, it’s rarely coincidental. It is to:
Signify that the relationship is central to the protagonist’s journey.
Showcase how much their dynamic has evolved over time.
Foreshadow their long-term importance to each other.
For Kitty and Minho, the fact that this happens in both seasons is a strong indication that their connection is not just a subplot—it’s one of the core emotional arc of the story.
So let us break it down:
Season 1: The Beginning & End with Minho
First Interaction: The first person Kitty physically bumps into at the airport on her way to Korea (signifying the beginning of her journey) is Minho. This is their very first meeting, setting the tone for their playful, sometimes antagonistic, but always high-energy dynamic.
Last Interaction: The season ends with Minho’s confession—a moment that completely shifts their relationship. And instead of rejecting him outright, Kitty smiles. It’s a small but telling reaction—if she truly felt nothing, there would be no hesitation.
& before people come up to say that the smile was only shown in Season 2 when they re-shot the scene...
This is a screenshot from Season 1 where you can see her slight contemplating smile (with About Love by MARINA playing in the background, mind you).
Why It Matters: The fact that Kitty’s first and last interactions in Season 1 are with Minho shows that he was always meant to be a significant part of her story. The show could have ended the season with anyone—Dae, Yuri, or even a solo moment of self-reflection. But instead, they chose to end with Minho’s confession. That’s not an accident—it’s intentional storytelling, subtly planting the seeds for future development.
Season 2: The Pattern Repeats—Minho Comes First & Last Again
First Love Interest She Sees: In Season 2, the first love interest Kitty locks eyes with is Minho. While Dae is technically present (standing right beside Minho), the camera deliberately focuses on Kitty looking at Minho. This is a classic storytelling technique used to subtly emphasize a character’s importance to the protagonist.
Last Interaction: Once again, the season ends with Minho and Kitty. But this time, things are even more emotionally complicated.
Kitty realizes her feelings for Minho, but she’s too scared to confess. She convinces herself that he has moved on, and the fear of rejection holds her back. Meanwhile, Minho is actively repressing his feelings. After his failed relationship with Stella and seeing Kitty’s complicated emotions regarding Yuri, he convinces himself that moving on is the only option. He even goes so far as to swear off relationships entirely.
Why It Matters: The fact that, once again, the season ends with Minho and Kitty means their story is still unfinished. No matter what happens in the middle, the narrative keeps circling back to them.
The Parallel to K-Drama Romance Structure
In K-dramas, the first person the protagonist meets in a new place often represents fate or destiny—and Kitty’s first physical interaction in Korea was with Minho at the airport.
The “first and last” interaction trope is often used to signal who the true endgame is—the person the protagonist starts and ends their journey with is usually their true match.
By structuring both seasons the same way, the show is subtly preparing the audience for their eventual romance.
The Parallels Between Season 1 & Season 2 (Between Minho & Kitty)
While XO Kitty explores multiple love interests, Minho and Kitty have scenes that directly parallel each other from Season 1 to Season 2. These mirroring moments serve as a way to track their emotional development and reinforce their importance to the story.
Season 1: Minho watches Kitty and Dae at the party → Season 2: Kitty watches Minho and Stella dancing at the ball.
In Season 1, Minho was unknowingly affected by seeing Kitty with Dae. In Season 2, Kitty experiences the exact same thing—showing that now she’s the one realizing her feelings.
Season 1: Minho sees Kitty in slow motion, feels attracted to her, then panics when he realizes it's Kitty and screams "NO!" in denial. → Season 2: Kitty sees Minho in slow motion—not once, but twice.
Minho’s slow-motion moment in Season 1 was a comedic way to show his growing attraction, but in Season 2, Kitty has two slow-mo moments of her own—this time, with much more emotional weight, showing her realization.
Season 1: Minho saves Kitty from the fire on her skirt. → Season 2: Kitty saves Minho from his family's reputation being tarnished by Stella's plans.
In Season 1, Minho literally puts out a fire for Kitty, protecting her. In Season 2, Kitty does the same thing metaphorically—protecting Minho from a social firestorm that could have hurt his family. Can I also add that both scenarios happened in similar settings? One is on stage while the other is back stage.
Season 1: Minho confesses, "I think I fell in love with you… a little bit… or a lot." → Season 2: Kitty has an inner monologue, "I have fallen for Minho… a little bit… or a lot."
This is the most important parallel. Minho was the first to confess his feelings in Season 1, but by Season 2, Kitty finally acknowledges her own feelings—mirroring his words exactly. The fact that her confession was internal rather than spoken aloud adds tension for the upcoming Season 3, setting up a major moment where she will have to verbalize it.
The Emotional Progression Between Bookends
Season 1 starts with Minho being dismissive of Kitty → Ends with him realizing his feelings and confessing.
Season 2 starts with Kitty locking eyes with Minho first → Ends with her realizing her own feelings, but being too scared to confess.
Each season follows a clear pattern, showing that their relationship is evolving step by step. The reason it hasn’t happened yet is because both of them have been in denial, not because the connection isn’t there.
Foreshadowing for Season 3
If Season 1 was about Minho realizing his feelings, and Season 2 was about Kitty realizing hers, then Season 3 will likely be about them finally acknowledging their love for each other and acting on it. Their bookended interactions and season-long parallels have been leading toward something bigger, and Season 3 will be the moment they finally break past their fears and come together. I think we can expect a major confession scene from Kitty—one where she has to face her feelings out loud, just like Minho did in Season 1.
In Conclusion
The bookending of their interactions in both seasons, paired with their direct scene parallels, is not a coincidence—it’s a deliberate narrative choice that:
Establishes Minho as a consistent presence in Kitty’s life.
Marks their relationship as a key focus of the series.
Shows their emotional and relational growth.
Foreshadows their eventual romance.
By structuring both seasons the same way—starting and ending with Kitty and Minho—and including multiple mirrored moments between them, the show is subtly telling us that their story isn’t just important, it’s inevitable.
This isn’t a random ship gaining popularity—it was always part of the plan.

So, I decided to take a second and actually analyze the songs from skeleta (the new ghost album)
And while I have many opinions on what the songs mean, I just really wanna talk about cenotaph. (It’s long so be warned)
Cenotaph at first listen for me just sounded like the “uplifting” song of the album. But after a few listens (and smiling like a goof whenever it came on) I realized it was much more than that.
Unlike the other upbeat songs in this album specifically, the joy in cenotaph has a sense of longing, and nostalgia present through the lyrics (“where ever I go, your always there”) and through the music itself. And after doing a bit of research it made sense as to why
Tone wise, it also sounds very playful, like I could see this playing in the back of a brotherly bonding montage- which brings me to my next point!
Brotherhood. After several more listens, the sense of brotherhood, camaraderie, was beaming in my face like the sun. Now I don’t have siblings so I cant really say much on that- but I have seen a few people on tumblr agree with the idea that this could be a song Perpetua might have made with his brother in mind. On that note, unlike Frater imperator, who seems to detest the idea of V in general, Perpetua, if we continue to look at the song from that angle, seems to actually want copia at his side. Perhaps missing and/or reminiscing a childhood they shared together (if the copious videos of children playing are anything to go by, pun intended), and inviting him to share in his triumphs.
(But that’s just a theory. A lore theory.)
However, characters aside, and on a more serious note,
Looking at the combination of the lyrics, and tones used throughout the song, I have reason to believe and say that cenotaph, is the continuation song to life eternal. Big stretch I know,
But let me explain.
After moving past the several ideas of the fraternal twins bonding over a silly song, I decided to actually, read the lyrics to cenotaph. Which lead me to reconsider the lyrics to life eternal. While I’ve seen many people bring up the parallels that the song Excelsis and life enternal have, which I absolutely LOVE (keep em coming), The “odd one out” tone of both cenotaph and life eternal continued to stick out to me. (Neither really talk about fun Satanic imagery, how corrupt the government is, standing up to your struggles, or even just plain ol sex, so they stand out from their respective albums, to me at least. And yes you could argue life eternal follows the “death” motif prequel has but shush.)
As we know, life eternal is about Tobias’s brother. The mourning, and the reluctance to accept and let go of the loss, are key elements in this song, as the singer (Toby) asks if the listener (his brother), is listening to him, as he wonders aloud what it would be like if the listener might’ve had, life eternal. Very sad makes me cry every time- anyways!
Cenotaph, seems like, the singer has finally realized that, the listener has always had life eternal, in the singers mind. He makes the point to ask the listener if he will join him through his triumphs, his accomplishments, taking the time to recognize the memory of them (the singer and the listener) being together through everything, how they used to be. This very clearly keeping the singer going (all through the storm).
(Note: “we all need something to believe in, anything, anyone, any time,” -peacefield)
Bringing that time of sorrow from life eternal , into a sort of somber, yet joyful, close.
The actual definition of a cenotaph, also tying this all together for me in a nice little bow.
A cenotaph, is a monument built in memory of a person, an empty tomb to honor the dead. The tomb in the singers mind now empty, the body gone and resurrected, the tomb only serving as a peaceful memorial.
Which is why I believe cenotaph is the resolution to life eternal.
More could be said about this, but that takes far more brain power that I don’t have at the moment.
Overall, cenotaph, right behind De Profundis Borealis, is one of my favorite songs. The music is great, the lyrics are beautiful, overall 10/10.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk
TLDR: cenotaph is a good song and should be recognized as such

it didn't answer my question but it was delightful to read nonetheless!!!!!
i meant like.. yk how you mentioned that the chain would doubt human reader more bcs theyre human?? then you said a situation when reader would save sky and sky would be like "nope readers got this fym they dont??" like what situations would happen with the others to make them also be like "nvm readers got this"?
(hopefully this makes sense HELP)
-person who asked about the human reader scenario thing
I've had to think about this for a while so I'm that this took me so long to answer. ^.^*
Twilight: Given that he has no problems with humans, Reader's problem would just winning him over as a person. He finds that he adore them just as much when he first introduces Wolfie to them. They gasped and instantly started complimenting and petting him, much to the horror of everyone else. They couldn't resist giving him kisses and telling what a good boy he was- not recognizing him a wolf. Twilight figures that if Reader likes animals, they're not all that bad.
Sky: His opinion was already mentioned when they got separated from the group and he hurt his ankle, unable to move on. Reader picked him up and carried him on his back until they were able to meet up with the group again. Their stamina and determination impressed him. From there he disregarded the other comments and assumptions about Reader, coming to their aid when they needed him to.
Wind: Being in the middle, Wind didn't really have much of an opinion. Not to mention that his age leaves him more vulnerable to going with the crowd and what the majority says. But there's a moment where his age also leaves him vulnerable as any small boy would. Reader finds him rubbing away the tears when the adventure become too much and lets him cry on their shoulder. They don't make a big deal out of it and help to hide the fact that he broke down from the other heroes. Wind's ego was bruised at being caught, but he's glad that Reader took his pride into account, knowing how much he wanted the other boys to view him as a equal. He'll remember that.
Wild: Reader was willing to eat anything Wild threw their way. they weren't picky and even willing to help make new recipes for Wild to make. They cooked together, sharing stories around the cauldron and laughing about how similar they were, even if they were still so different. Wild doesn't know/remember he's part human, but he knows he's different. Reader was always different so Wild doesn't think they'll see him as anything other than himself- and when they manage to choke down the dubious food he playfully tossed their way. He realized that was an invitation for the biggest prank war of the century. This'll be fun.
Legend: This boy near the end is just petty. At first Reader would meet his sass tit for tat. But after a particularly difficult day, Legend tries to get into the verbal sparring before Reader frustratedly tears up, hands clenched into fists and shaking from the restraint they hold over themselves. They yell at Legend, calling him out on his crap and saying that they're sick of his attitude and they don't understand what they did for him to fight them so much. It occurs to Legend that they were not on the same page after all and the verbal sparring was actually Reader attempting to defend themselves against his barrage of attitude. Reader takes off and Legend gives them time to cool down. He feels bad. He's self conscious enough to realize that he's the one at fault here.
Four: I think he's the simplest to be won over. Obviously, Reader has questions about the weapons he'd make in the forge. Even is Reader doesn't necessarily have the knowledge to meet him toe to toe in blacksmithing, they'd no doubt knowing someone who does. They mention techniques and Four was able to go on and on about his love and his passion with someone who actually listened. It doesn't seem like much to Reader but that sort of connection rewired something in Four's brain. Four may have grown up surrounded by bias but he's the fastest to simplify that Reader, at least, isn't defined but what others have told him.
Warrior: Is always watching them like a hawk. If they're up to something he's going to be the first to know. Because of this long time observation sting operation thing he sees all the little things that Reader does when they think no one is looking. Little by little his bias and hate his chipped away and before he knows it, when Reader is threatened, he's sprinting to come to their aid- worry gnawing at his bones on the off chance he doesn't get there in time. It's only after Reader is tended to and no long in any danger that he realizes the implications of his actions. He wants to hold on to what he thought he knew... but he finds that the more he thinks about it, the more he realizes that Reader had already proven a lot of the rumors wrong. He owes them an apology.
Hyrule: As one the least trusting of the group, he would have spent a lot of time avoiding Reader just on principle. But then he gets a bad hit. Sliced right across his abdomen. He's bleeding out. There's a lot of blood loss. He's worried about the curse. The monsters. Hyrule. Reader is suddenly above him, pinning him down, refusing the very concept of him losing more blood. They're covered in the crimson liquid quickly. Despite not able to feel or use magic, they patch him up. They stich him together again. Through sheer force of will they refuse to let him die. They don't take advantage of his weakness. They don't use his blood for anything he would have thought they would. He passes out with his life in their hands and a debt to pay.
Time: Is skeptical of new people as a rule. But he never really believed the rumors of humans anyway. He just never had a personal experience with them and he knew better after everything he's gone through to make that call without have first hand information. There was a moment where they were about to check in to an inn but Reader was denied access. To avoid a fight, they stayed with Epona in the stables for the night. Time was furious with the concept. The next day, after herding them away from the others he asks why they didn't fight back. Why didn't they stand up for themselves? Reader explains that's just how it is between Hylians and humans. They don't expect anything glamorous when dealing with them. They say that being the bigger person comes at a price but they're not willing to sacrifice their head for the sake of someone who doesn't know them and will never see them again. Time isn't happy with this answer. It's not right. And isn't it a hero's job to fix what's wrong?
#pinky replies#human! reader#pinky answers#this took a second for me to get to because i knew it would be longer ^.^*#as per usual#the beginning boys are the shortest because they're the easiest#i swear the answers get longer for each and each boy because *suddenly*#i have a lot to say
