I’m really confused where all the doom for 818 came from? I’m confused as to why people think Buck is going to be the only character that doesn’t get his personal storyline resolved? Like every other character will have their own moment but Buck? Yes we have the emergency, Madney baby, Athena and the house, Henren and Mara, Eddie and Chris moving back however where is Buck in all of this? Who has been apart of his personal storyline this season? I’m just so confused? I understand managing expectations, I’m not expecting Tommy to be in most of the finale but I would be very shocked if he wasn’t in it at all either to have a short reconciliation or leave a hint that it’s up in the air.

I was really confused on Friday, to be honest. Especially because, if you look at my blog, I had already been saying Tommy wouldn't be in 817. And at this point, I was not expecting to 1. have them move the relationship along if Tommy wasn't in it, and 2. I didn't think they'd revisit the relationship until after the 118 was in a better place/they'd moved on from losing Bobby. Perhaps not moved on, but accepted it more. So the reaction to 817 took me by surprise.

Now, with perspective, I sort of get it? I don't share the opinion, but I get it. I just think a lot of that doom and gloom came from people not wanting to have any sort of their hopes up, and they would rather not expect much in order to not be let down. And I fully can understand that.

Now, we don't know what will happen just yet. We know what the show has been presenting us, and the narrative that we can see and that is not based on nothing, or on theories that stand only if you suspend disbelief. Matter of fact is that the last BT interaction we've had in canon was of Tommy telling Buck he'd (partly) stolen a helicopter for him (and Buck looking at him with the biggest heart eyes known to humankind), and of Tommy watching Buck break down with tears running down his face (which directly paralleled Bathena in their last moments together). Just based on this, it isn't crazy to think we could have something in 818. We have yet to see if the narrative follows logic this time around, or if 911 has played a very bizarre game all 8b, and randomly decided to drop the ball.

That being said... I don't understand the argument of time, because every single season finale has served to close on the characters' storylines. And before someone says Season 7 - all the storylines for the season were indeed closed. The show just happened to introduce the first ones for Season 8 in the last episode of 7, but the ones for 7? Yeah, they were done. This show loves to have its storylines tied with a pretty ribbon at the end of the season, and we've seen how they'll cram up an episode and rush through it to make it happen almost every single season finale. So I don't think that believing they could do it this time around, too, is crazy.

I am expecting Tommy, and if I am delulu for doing so, I can live with that. Granted, I don't expect him to have a lot of screentime with everything they have to do, but I don't think it's crazy to think he could be there, and BT could have their happy ending.

There is Minori sexuality discourse on twitter again with people arguing whether headcanoning Minori as bi is lesbophobic or that there is no implications that Minori is a lesbian in the game and that being against bi Minori is being biphobic. People are arguing about whether Minori having so far pretty much only shown interest in woman is actually implying that she is a lesbian or just her being implied sapphic. I was wondering what your opinion on this is with you being a fan of other rhythm gacha games and knowing a lot of information about project sekai.

as a general rule of thumb just assume sexualities will never be confirmed as any sexuality unless the game is called D4DJ Groovy Mix. as far as i'm aware staying silent on the matter for this genre of franchise is common as way of pleasing all fans, if you never confirm anything then no one gets angry (100% the reason for mizuki's gender marker not changing after hands covered in wounds). that said, it's not like they never very very strongly bordering on textually state anything related to relationships, prsk itself has literally confirmed that kohane thought an confessed to her before because an said something that was easily misinterpreted, and it has shown minori fantasise about marrying haruka. but if they never say in the text "minori is a lesbian and has a crush on haruka" then it's not real. even if minori has said she's in love with haruka before the language could still be interpreted platonically even if context clues suggest otherwise.

on the topic of minori specifically, i personally view her as a lesbian. she's very clearly crushing on haruka (again. daydreams about married life with haruka), and has shown/stated her attraction to other women as well. meanwhile, she doesn't show any interest/attraction to men. the main argument people bring up is her being blinded by len/kaito's idol smiles, but she's like a huge idol fan so isn't that just... normal fangirling? i think because the shiny idol smile effect is often used to show attraction (eg: an->kohane in blue sky, haruka->kohane in bfst), especially in earlier stories it was used almost exclusively for this, people have associated it with attraction when it can be used for other things too. for example in the 2024 april fools event luka has it when she's interacting with akito and rui because she's so much more reliable and mature than their lukas. there's no indication that either of them are attracted to her, idols are just meant to have a sort of "aura" about them.

like i really don't think she's interested in men, but someone else could interpret those interactions with kaito and len differently. it's a very difficult thing to say what side is right because there is no word of god on the situation and never will be, all we know is that she's romantically interested in a woman, which confirms her as sapphic but nothing more specific. again, i think she's pretty clearly a lesbian, but my views are not reflective of other people's interpretations nor the writers'. honestly i doubt the writers gaf they won't even confirm mizuki as a trans woman.

I’m aware that MC doesn’t seem to have a lot of experience at the beginning of the game. That’s fine. It’s normal to be unsure and awkward when you first start having sex. But as time goes on, MC gains tons of experience. At some point, they’ve slept with all seven demon Kings many many times, and lots of nobles as well. Eventually, MC should become more acclimatized to Hell and comfortable/confident with sex. I would like to see that reflected in their character more often. It’s perfectly okay if you don’t. We’re all allowed to have opinions.

Now, the majority of my posts have no negativity at all, so I’m not sure where you got that I spend all day every day hating on the game.

I like WHB. I like the worldbuilding, setting, the normalcy of sexuality, its weirdness, and most of the characters. But there are times where I’m personally not a fan of what’s happening, and I want to talk about it. Liking something and criticizing parts of it aren’t mutually exclusive. Fandom isn’t required to be a completely positive space, where any sort of negativity bans you from participating.

Everyone is responsible for their own experience in fandom, especially in an environment like Tumblr which allows for customization to your specific likes and dislikes.

Write them as excited and confident, ‘Hell yeah, look at me, I’m hot as fuck, all the devils want me and wish they had me’.

My issues with the MC are exacerbated by the conflicting way they’re characterized. The story hammers home that the MC is a pervert, basically a degenerate sex fiend, and yet most of the time they act meek and inexperienced, hesitant and almost virginal. I just wish they would pick one or the other.

Anyways I would love for more MC dom content, but that doesn’t seem to be the route the devs want to go, which I personally find very disappointing.

i can guarantee i don't, but the honor is much appreciated nonetheless! i really enjoy the way toby fox weaves humor and thematic meaning together to create strongly written and vivid characters, and so i'm happy the influence he has on my work shows! making stories that build on the foundation he's set, whether i think they've got a chance of actually being canon or not, is a grounds that's always very rich for storytelling opportunities as well, and i'll likely hold on to and keep building on many of these stories long after we've got the full game. the "canon divergence as of this point" tag gets a lot of love from me.

as for rouxls, i think it's safe to say that he's a fascinating character to me. there's a lot you can do with him – rouxlster was a fun concept to play with in tvland, even though i super don't think it'd be canon, because it's such a well-known theory and the contrast between how sinister rouxlster is and how ridiculous canon rouxls is made a lot of the beats we wanted to write hit the way we wanted them to for the audience. there's a certain level of "not THIS fucking guy" you get whenever he pops up, amplified by rouxls-as-gaster being a concept we knew most of the audience would already react to like that. and it's characterful; you have this shakespearean actor who has a monikaesque habit of almost always facing toward the camera, and he's the same guy as this scientist who's obsessed with having the attention of the audience and makes a child for the express purpose of appealing to them.

and kaard kingdom is similar. the "how" isn't fully-formed, as i've never quite settled on one concept; sometimes a new fountain is made in the same location, sometimes the knight takes our trio through the great door and into the kingdom's ruins, susie is occasionally involved. but the general gist of the part of it that involves rouxls' character is largely the same – he's tagged along on every adventure so far, trying to get in good with whoever the route boss is and be their lackey. given the knight seems like an important boss in the game, there's a solid chance it'll end with rouxls trying to do the same to them, which opens up another thematic avenue given that the knight's a lightner and by that point in the story we'll be knees-deep in grappling with the darkners' fates. and since rouxls is a recurring opponent, his strength will no doubt scale with ours as we continue, opening up a gameplay avenue in seeing him grow from a weak miniboss into a genuine threat. combine these two things with a cavalcade of puns and lots of characters for him to play off of and you have what could make for an excellent penultimate chapter idea (at least in my opinion!)

Sorry, but I'm going to have to (at least partially) side with your dad here. Effie is absolutely complicit in the Games... In Sunrise, Effie herself expresses how much she believes in the Games' necessity. Yes, it's because of propoganda, but that doesn't negate her part in everything. She "stumbled into the job" because of her experience and expertise and because she wanted to help her sister. To Capital citizens this is a big deal! A huge career opportunity! While her intentions were not bad, she did not take the job to help save the lives of district kids. She is not an inherently evil person, and is very lovable, and she absolutely changes by the end of the series. However, to say she is not complicit is kind of naive. To use your analogy, she is a small, well meaning cog in the Hunger Games machine, but that cog is one reason the machine runs so smoothly.

I love Effie! But don't take away her agency by pretending she was not part of the problem and had some major learning to do to get to where she is in Mockingjay.

Perhaps I should've specified; I don't think Effie is completely innocent, but my dad is of the opinion District 13 should've executed her lmao.

The reasons I give Effie some grace is because my interpretation of her character is that, at best, she's uncomfortable with the games (like some characters in tbosas), and I think this shows in the way she treats the tributes. I compare her to Drusilla quite a lot; she could show disdain for the tributes, treat them like dogs like Drusilla, but she (in her own propaganda, capitol-esque way) tries to do as right as she can by her tributes. In sotr she mentions that there's problems associated with being a Trinket due to her family's history, so I'm sure she did jump on the escort position! It was a way to drag her family out of the hole they were in, but she could've just treated it like a job. She could've been power hungry, and used it as a way to the top, but she continuously did things that weren't really in her job description, or at least not in the extent she did. She didn't need to support Haymitch when he was in the launch room. She didn't need to treat Haymitch with kindness when he was spiraling after the games (she could've gone a less sloppy Magno route). She didn't need to comfort Katniss when she did. (Albeit this was more pronounced in the movies, but) she didn't need to treat her, Haymitch, Katniss and Peeta as a team, and she certainly didn't need to get emotionally attached to any of them. But she did.

Additionally, yes she does make a few comments in sotr and thg about the games necessity, but I always read those scenes as a result of nearby cameras. As shown in tbosas, even capitol citizens are not safe to talk down about the games and (if my memory serves) most/all of her talking about the games' necessity is a quick addition after showing sympathy for Katniss/Haymitch or saying something that could be construed as anti-capitol/the hunger games. I think Effie is much smarter than many give her credit for, and through some of her actions I think she was not fully on board with the child murder games, but she's not allowed to vocalize any of those ideas. I don't remember if in sotr it said her grandparents were executed for being rebel sympathizers, but that was always the assumption I made, and that would put you on edge.

And at the end of Mockingjay when Katniss describes Effie as having 'empty eyes' after her imprisonment? I know they don't go into detail about what exactly happened to her, but given how animated and lively Effie was, I have a feeling the implication is that some pretty heinous shit was done to her- and, as a result, crushed any remaining soft feelings she may have had for the capitol.

I'm not trying to remove her agency and say she was a capitol rebel on the level of, say, Plutarch, but I think people tend to be harsh on their view of her. I think that similarly to the prep team and some citizens of the capitol, they were cogs that helped the machine run smoothly, but I also think that- to an extent- two/three generations of mind-numbing propaganda, an inability to speak out without threat to your life, and an inability to make a livelihood without helping the machine run will leave you with your hands tied and your mouth stitched shut. Is she complicit? Yes. Can I necessarily blame her for it, or wish her ill because of it? Not really, personally.

A lot of this is personal interpretation tho, which is part of why I like these books so much; the characters are complicated and it leaves a LOT of room for personal interpretation!! I also did not mean to write an essay lmao, I just have MANYMANY thoughts on all the characters XD

So am I the only person, or are Snow and Katniss a lot alike? Katniss, after Peeta tossed her the bread, felt as she "owed" Peeta. I don't think it was ever specifically said, but it's implied Snow felt the same about Tigris practically raising him. They both have a hard time trusting people and hiding stuff about family. Snow doesn't trust telling anyone about his family's damaged reputation. Katniss had to pretend her mother was okay because she didn't trust anyone and not express her disdain for the games to not make her or Prim a target. They both also lost their parent(s). The thing that sets them apart the most is the reason for their motivations. Katniss's reason for everything is loyalty and protecting those she loves. That's why she volunteered for Prim. Snow is motivated by his ambition and need for power. That's part of the reason (in my opinion) why Lucy and Snow never would've worked.

he's just got to the end of the legendary chapter 5 trial!! that thing is like crack cocaine to me and i lowkey wish i could erase my memory of it and re-experience it for the first time, so watching my poor confused little brother go through it is about the closest i could get to that.

(though that being said, i also think it's one of the few chapters which is made even better when you already know the insane 4D chess solution.) ANYWAY, AS USUAL, HIS REACTIONS!

when he saw the flashback light with all the hope's peak stuff he was immediately like *rolling eyes* "ugh THIS again?? i thought this game was supposed to be unconnected from all that!" which was funnily enough my exact same reaction the first time. towards the end of the second game he had got so sick of the hope/despair stuff that he didn't even watch the anime lmaoooooo, so it's not really a surprise

i am, naturally, extremely looking forward to seeing his reaction to the "haha that was a lie, it was all just mr beast squid games" ambiguous reveal in the next chapter...

we've made such a running joke of kokichi saying "USO DA YO!!" we use it for literally everything now. like i know "lie" is just "uso" but like, kokichi would say something and then i'd turn to my brother and go "do you think he's telling the truth or was it uso da yo?" and my brother would be like "hmm, i think he's uso da yo-ing..."

we also have a running joke that kaede somehow caused all the murders before her death. the rube goldberg machine is still going. a shot put ball landed on the buttons and pressed them so kokichi got squished. somehow.

honestly most of his reactions were pretty much what you'd expect (he found the chapter awesome, he thought the plan was insane, etc) so i'll try and think of funny stuff he did or said

he literally gasped aloud when the monokubs got resurrected. apparently he had "forgotten about them".

when kokichi's clothes were found in the toilet, he suggested kokichi died by being flushed down the toilet

through the whole game he had been saying stuff like "do you think kokichi finds monokuma adorable and wants to hug him?" and especially said it a lot when he thought kokichi was the mastermind, so he couldn't stop laughing when himiko ended up being the one to express those opinions during the trial

it's funny that the flashback light worked on him, too. he jumped straight to "oh i get it, kokichi must be a remnant of despair!" before the characters even thought it. like... no, lmao. get flashback lighted idiot.

he thinks keebo has been acting quite makoto-like. next chapter will be fun.

when i pointed out that we technically still can't be 100% sure that kokichi didn't die of poison like a millisecond before getting crushed (unless he was idk screaming in agony as he died or smth), so it truly is unsolvable and maybe no one knows the answer, he was like "just like how we'll never truly know if kokichi was lying about hating the killing game or not!" idk i get the feeling he understands kokichi even better than i do. which you achieve by not understanding him at all, of course

he fully guessed that kaito's execution would be similar to the headteacher from the first game. he loves how angry monokuma is that it failed haha

him: "how did kaito manage to survive drilling through the whole earth before getting to space though?" me: "because he's awesome" him: "oh yeah good point"

he had picked up on maki's crush on kaito ages ago but he was surprised she actually admitted it. (not that it really changed anything lol, but at least she's more open about her feelings now) (i am a very unhinged maki stan so i'm stopping myself there before i start gushing about her amazing character development and all that)

he knows many people don't like chapter 6 so he's trying to guess what's going on. first he suggested that maybe some of humanity escaped to mars or something, and are watching the killing game there. then he got crazier with his ideas and said maybe they've all gone to a parallel universe somehow. and in the next trial there'll be a hangman gambit "HALF A PRESS".

we also realised the whole gopher backstory thing is just the plot of splatoon 3 alterna??? omg monokuma is mr grizz...

i feel like there was definitely more, but i'm too distracted to remember. i said this trial is like crack cocaine to me, right? all of it but especially near the end. OUGH. i feel like i've just had about ten espressos.

i've been slowly showing my brother the danganronpa games and he's on chapter 1 of v3, and in my spare time i have also been replaying v3 and i'm on chapter 6, and let me tell you -- experiencing those two chapters almost simultaneously is making me feel physically ill

I didn't like every map in Inquisition, but the elven ruins were some of the best parts of it. Sometimes I think about how Suledin Keep was laid out where you're running through this kind of mazelike environment and then you can glance up at one point and there's this GIANT dread wolf statue watching you from the mountains. that was neat. Arlathan has giant statues too but imo they aren't framed in a very fantastic way where you can get startled like that. and where are the elven prayer puzzles. why can we not show our obeisance to the Evanuris with logic and whimsy :<

I loved Suledin Keep as well!

Especially since, by that point, you've fought your way through red templar camps and the giant behemoths to get to the *heart* of the operation at Suldein. There are red templars, rifts, the people/quarry operation, and then you get to the Keep and, like you said, there's that cool moment where you look up and the Dread Wolf is just LOOMING over you (like Solas in the story!).

Something that really appealed to me with this world was the tangible sense of the past, the consequences of decisions made ages ago, looming over you - the Blights, the Ancient Elves, the Dwarven Empire, Tevinter...the world never let you forget it.

And that's the whole game of DAI - wherever you go there's always traces of the people that came before you, unable to swept away by time or conquerors...and sometimes those people claw their way back to the present like Corypheous or Solas. In Ferelden you find traces of the Avaar and Chasind, In Orlais you find the remnants of the Elves, the Western Approach is dotted with Old Tevinter outposts and the Wardens, and the Hissing Wastes/Storm Coast with the dwarven ruins on the surface! I loved discovering every inch of those maps (large as they were lmao) and it added so much to the world. It made the world feel large! It added to the idea that this world had so much mystery to it - so much lost history.

And Arlathan?

It's a maze, not in a good way, but because parts are cut off only to be opened 'when allowed', and not like in Inquisition where there was a rock-slide or you needed a bridge etc... You're boxed in with glowing doors that tell you 'not now come back later' or water that instantly drowns you, and it's hard to not be taken out of the experience when the game is so very upfront with you that you are not supposed to explore until we say you can.

This game doesn't reward exploration, it has fast travel spots all over the place that seem to discourage it once you find an area. Camps in Inquisition were spread out over large maps but sparingly used in comparison - it still made certain that you explored the world to find new things on your journey from a to b. The quests train you to fast travel, to get to where you need to go - kill, talk, repeat. The game teaches you to look out for crap to break and so my eyes are rooted firmly on the ground because of it. The game can look gorgeous at times, but it doesn't feel like it wants me to look at it too hard, like it will break the illusion of this game lmao.

It's a personal opinion, of course, but my experience with this game was that it made the world smaller, less interesting, and devoid of that mystery and reverence that made this series so compelling. Like you said, there are some cool visuals like those giant statues in Arlathan, but everything else in the map is so condensed and twisting on each other that it's hard to notice them naturally while playing the game.

That would be so cool! I can get Andruil's alter having a hunting test - like with the Vir Tanadhal (the way of three trees), which is a hunting philosophy the Dalish have relating to Andruil who is the Goddess of the Hunt. That makes sense - you show deference to her by hunting according to her way.

...but for all of them?

It's a game design choice, I get that -> make it simple, keep it the same...it goes with the repetitive combat and exploration loop of this game. But they really lost out on showing us how the Evanuris differ to each other - how each of them had their own little 'aspect' they had dominion over in accordance to their lore. Why not have a little puzzle for June, God of the Craft? A riddle for Dirthamen, God of Secrets? Have some sort of brazier lighting puzzle for Sylaise, the Hearthkeeper, who gave the elven people fire?

From what we learn in DAI with the veilfire and temple of Mythal we know that they were massively egotistical assholes for the most part, some way more than most. They had their own temples, their own valaslin, their own mythology/legends...giving them all the same prayer puzzle is pretty dull when you consider how different they all are and the efforts they went to to distinguish them. Not that you'd really know in this game - for a game about the 'Elven Gods' there's very little discussion about the rest of them.

But, yeah, to sum it all up: Elven ruins in Inquisition were gorgeous, encouraged you to explore and interact with the lore with veilfire runes, and gave you some gorgeous set pieces like with the giant Dread Wolf statue in Suledin. Inquisition may not have been everyones cup of tea, totally get that, but for me it really captured the wonder of Thedas - the depth of its history...datv unfortunately did not.

(I have never seen any of the Scream movies but I do know that there's not a Singular Ghostface, but multiple people)

Like someone would walk past Gavin's desk and he's just on his phone not looking up while Chris is making a work call - wearing the mask. Then five minutes later Chris tosses it over saying he needs some air and Gavin wears it. But the fact it was Halloween nobody really clocks the swap at first just "wow I am REALLY tired I thought it was the other one wearing it. I must really need coffee" and then half an hour passes and they've swapped who's wearing it again.

there are games that i enjoy playing more and there are games i enjoy thinking about more. sometimes the overall story and themes and blorbos are delightful but actually playing it is a little annoying so i just rotate it in my mind instead. sometimes i get absolutely sucked into the gameplay and the world and the experience for dozens or hundreds of hours and i enjoy listening to the soundtrack but it has little to no lasting impact on me as a person bc something in the story just failed to hit and that’s ok. both are good both are beloved. obviously the ideal piece of media is one i both enjoy actively consuming and thinking about but my mindset is that if a piece of media has any single good thing in it it’s a good piece of media. give me literally anything to work with and i’ll extract joy out of it. i’ve literally never played a game i didn’t like btw
