it could be the sleep deprivation! but it is also possible. that i unironically like space waltz BECAUSE!

it reminds me a lot of red dwarf. WHICH!

isn't to say that it's good like red dwarf is. only that, as a parody of the space exploration/space opera genre, it also manages to be its own thing. you look at, for example, unser traumschiff. it's a one-to-one parody of star trek tos. the characters, set design, costume, even sound effects. when you watch unser traumschiff you are essentially watching Bad, unliscenced Star Trek, on purpose. red dwarf, while a sitcom that parodies, goes out of its way to make New Lore. New Characters. New Motivations. (and is also a pastiche of many scifi works.) when you watch red dwarf, you are just... watching red dwarf.

and that's the weird thing about space waltz. because it strikes a weird balance between an unser traumschiff and a red dwarf. the primary parody is star trek tos, and this is obvious. you have a character standing in for uhura, a character that references sulu (a botanist that also flies the ship), a character that appears to reference both data from TNG and kryten from red dwarf in the form of an android.

but.... the costume design, the sound design, the set design, even the props.... they don't follow the norm for a parody in this genre. you have this weirdly haunting music that plays over most skits. a bright white ship interior that ALSO differs from more modern blockbuster takes of sci-fi, it's like its own... uncanny sort of thing. and then the uniforms are a mashup of navy, pirate, super hero??? reflective tape??? rubber/PVC???

and then we have the characters. the captain isn't there because he's skilled... he's a nepo baby with absolutely no expertise. a māori descendant, weirdly, of the colonizer captain cook. he has a literal pirate ship steering wheel (which... may? or may not? work?) and his first officer, a pāhekā with a te reo name, Rangi. meaning sky/heaven and, as one fanfic author pointed out, one letter away from "ranga" (derogatory slang for a red-haired person). he's a knowitall, spent 6 years at the academy, and resents his inexperienced captain for outranking him. also there's a guy that has kirk and spock "dollies" that he plays with at his station.

then plotwise, the purpose of their mission is specifically to find a planet to evacuate the aoteoroean population to, as rising sea levels have already swallowed the north island and are beginning to swallow the south island. in one skit, the PM says that they are doing this so the kiwis won't have to go to australia. but, paradoxically, we do also see a group of australians in space? and most of australia's population is concentrated on the coastline. so perhaps the australians, too, are in search of land to evacuate to. unclear.

anyway. all of this is like. genuinely kind of compelling to me? which is weird to say because this was made as part of like. an objectively terrible, unfunny, aged-like-milk skit show. the goal of which was to be as LOL RANDOM XD and offensive as possible, apparently. so even though space waltz is undoubtedly the best skit segment, it's still........ well. it's still radiradirah. the premise of one "episode" (collection of related skits?) is that the ship has been infested by tribbles (called "meeple" here) that can only be killed with human farts. the premise of another episode is that captain hemi """gets schizophrenia""" from looking into a black hole (which results in. what you would expect. unfortunately.). and in the same episode, the uhura stand-in character makes a comment that she's worried about being sexually assaulted if first officer Rangi mutinies and takes over the ship. (which like. deeply upsetting to begin with. but also there's no basis at all for the character to do something like that. it, like many other radiradirah skits, chucks in SA as an Edgy Shock Humor Joke).

if you do check out space waltz, i recommend doing so by watching the compilation someone made on youtube. radiradirah itself isn't worth it. i gave up on episode 4. and also... do be aware that it is still radiradirah. and with it comes... well. what it comes with.

now all of that being said. i do kind of want to see a take of space waltz that's more like red dwarf. like, still silly. completely absurd. but also... a little more effort put in. some more lore building. little less trek. really showcase the bits of the world that are actually interesting and new.

like, it's fucking strange that captain hemi talks into a vacuum cleaner hose on his belt to record his captain's log. that's awesome. give me 500 more details like that

alcohol is illegal? why? what happened? prohibition 2? give me the fake earth history

Who picks the cheesy movies for date night? I feel like Derek defaults to letting Erin pick movies because he isn’t exposed to a lot of stuff. She’s still probably in the 1980s-1990s movie wise and they’re working their way up to Tangled slowly. He probably JUST started watching spongebob lol

Who is more likely to feed the other in public? Erin tries to feed Derek because he hardly eats. He’s getting better at it though.

Who gives the other random little compliments? They weirdly flirt with each other so it’s always half-digs more than compliments

Who is always stealing food from the other’s plate? Erin steals from Derek’s plate when it comes to fries, but he orders a larger size so it’s not really stealing. He’s used to her antics when it comes to fries though

Who is more likely to let the other borrow their car? Erin more than Derek. He’s really in love with his car so he probably wouldn’t let her borrow it (sorry Erin)

Who makes the list before they go grocery shopping? Derek is the list maker for sure

Who makes sure the other takes their meds when sick? I think they’re both good on that cause Derek for sure takes his meds regularly and I feel like Erin is good with that too. They’re both good at taking care of each other in that regard. He wouldn’t hesitate to help her and vice versa

Who watches sports and has to teach the other the rules? Tbh I think that no one has to really learn. Erin definitely knows a lot more than she lets on and I wouldn’t be surprised if she taught a thing or two to Derek

Who pulls the other to their feet for a dance in the living room? Erin is pulling him. Derek is a reluctant dancer, but he’s actually not half bad

Who has to keep reminding the other to hurry or they’ll be late? Derek TOTALLY nags Erin because he likes to show up a bit early

Who is the one most likely to get a tattoo with the other’s name? I don’t think either of them will get a name. Derek does have a few tats and he may get one dedicated to her, but not a name. I don’t think Erin would get anyone’s name tatted on her either. Maybe they’d both get matching or pair tattoos. He’d have to be kinda drunk to do that though because he has a lot of tattoos and sworn them off for a bit.

arguments about kiss becoming functionally a tribute band are pretty amusing to me now that I’ve actually seen an old band that’s basically a ship of theseus’d tribute band- The Ventures

Admittedly not a fair comparison to kiss or a lot of other bands that are aging out, since they’ve always been more of a unit than individuals and not showy at all and purely about the music. Like there’s DOZENS of ORIGINAL Ventures albums, they were ridiculously productive and “deep cuts” could be measured like oceanic depths. For the record, their cover of Tiptoe Through the Tulips is one of my favorite Marianas-deep cuts, it’s the single most Spongebob song in existance. The instrumental surf scene is so small now that a solid band is a solid band regardless of what it’s called and those are so criminally rare outside of maybe California that anything is great.

But gotta say if you like the old Ventures albums you’ll be perfectly satisfied, they sound exactly like the originals and even spice up the simpler songs in a lot of nice ways. Apparently they’re even releasing new material and their cover of Fly Me To The Moon is… exactly what you’d imagine that would sound like from the Ventures. Again, with how few surf bands there are, if they did new releases under the Ventures name that were either directly in their early 60s style or even got more experimental like their later albums could get, I’d be delighted!

Kiss is pretty much the opposite in that eh, I’m just not that interested in new releases from them if they’re just going to be same-old, same-old. I always liked them for their questionable attempts at trend-hopping more. I think blatantly kiss-inspired bands are more interesting than tributes, or even just bands that have some traits in common (Here Come the Mummies with their intelligently terrible innuendos and fantastic stage show/masked characters come to mind). I’d probably watch a stage show that was basically like modern kiss concerts with new members, though Paul seems to be VERY hard to get a good dupe of for any tribute band. But if a different/original band had something with a similar appeal I’d honestly be more into that.

just kind of disorganized thinking out loud here I guess. I’m just not someone who’d be that enthralled by an official kiss 2 when there’s newer bands that have taken a lot of their concepts and done more interesting things with them (though I did love the stage show on the EOTR show I saw). That or I’d just be content with regular tribute bands.

also lol if you like instrumental surf rock at all I’d definitely recommend checking out the Ven2res if they come to your area, really can’t overstate that they’re overall a really fun and solid band and not any more expensive than other tribute ones would be. One of the rarer cases where that model works really well imo. If you like Gene’s basslines you’d probably like the Ventures of any era because they tend to have good melodic ones too (the live 30th anniversary version of Telstar is great)

i have a lot of favorite bands asjdjabs. i guess my main one is bastille, who i obviously discovered along with everyone else when "pompeii" became a hit in the US, but then i went on to listen to their full bad blood album (and deluxe all this bad blood edition) and i fell in love instantly. it almost changed my music interests entirely bc for a good period, i was in this bubblegum pop bubble of my own making, being a tween and all. bastille broke me out of that and opened me up to the world of alt rock, which i got into heavily in 2014. i've fallen in love with a lot of other alt groups since, but bastille's been one of my few mainstays ever since i discovered them and though the lyrics to some of their earlier songs went over my head, i love how topical and relevant their music has become and i really wish they were as popular stateside as they once were. (i mean, they still tour here, i think, and have occasional hits, but i feel like "happier" is the only one that ever got to "pompeii" levels of popularity, which is wild to me since it's a collab with another artist. appreciate bastille's originally written/produced music more, please!)

Favorite SpongeBob ships?

Oh boy, I have a lot of ships in the show (some of which are divorced ships or semi-canon ships of the Bikini Bottomites) but I'll just start off with the Main Ones that I ship.

SpongeBobXSandy - Probably one of the Main Ships in both the Show and the Fandom. The Two have a lot of perfect chemistry together and they even have such adorable moments, the two protect each other and even enjoy a lot of fun. They're also very helpful of each other since they're close friends and all, and I like how Sandy is the Badass Girl while SpongeBob's usually the "Goofy Nice Guy". Felt a bit disappointed that their past of how they met was retconned since the Third Movie only for the Spin-Offs like "Kamp Koral" and it was also kinda funny that ship was roasted in one episode of a wedding flashback (Truth or Square).

I sometimes think that SpongeBob has a crush on Her, rather or not it'd be a question, yet, they still support each other.

PatrickXMindy - I'm pretty sure everyone shipped them since the first movie in their own childhoods (including mine). Gotta admit, I always find Patrick's crush on her adorable since they are opposites attract and it's one of those "Royal Heir X Peasant" tropes. It was nice to see that Mindy did had a cameo in the Birthday special. Oh, and I guess Patrick does have a type for Girls; Mermaids (which was hinted in Legends of the Bikini Bottom).

Sherm said that Mindy is 14 and that he assumes that SpongeBob and Patrick are like kids (which makes Me believe that he doesn't know their ages which is why he thinks Mindy is young) maybe SpongeBob and Patrick are somewhat Older Adolescents too since No One really knows much about the Characters' Canon Ages (The Writers would never really know about their true ages based on how old they are).

Personally, in my POV/Headcanon, I see Patrick 17, SpongeBob 18 (based on some theories about his age), and even Sandy 19. (But in most of my AUs, Mindy is 19-21 while Patrick is 22 in some of my AUs, mostly from my Human AU.)

SquidwardXSquilvia - It was nice to see that Squidward finally had a love interest of his own (but sadly, much like Mindy, Squilvia is just a one appearance character even though Mindy did at least came back at the show one time). I felt bad for Squidward being so lonely all the time he couldn't find someone like him who he could love. Personally, I think Squilvia has the same interests that Squidward has, if she could find a Man like Him, then Squidward would find a Woman like Her.

Gotta love on how SpongeBob instantly ships them together since Squidward is honestly the Tsundere type who has feelings for Squilvia. I can see Squilvia having sympathy for Squidward on how rough his life was as she could relate to the same way as him. I think these two would have been perfect as Husband and Wife 💙

Hoping for Squilvia, she might make another appearance in the Modern Episodes.

NeptuneXAmphitrite - Surprise to see that I would instantly brought up Neptune's ship since he's one of my favorite characters? Lmao, thought so 🤭

I know that we barley see them together, especially in "The Clash of Triton" and even though it's unknown on what happened to Amphitrite and Triton in the First Movie, I'd like to think that Neptune and his Wife were separated once.

Even though we haven't gotten a backstory about them, I headcanon that in Ancient Times, they didn't mind at first but when they got to know each other, their romance blossomed into love (but Amphitrite was already in a relationship with Poseidon as Neptune technically stole his Greek Counterpart's Girl and won her heart in a fight).

In their Teen Years, I see that their relationship would be pretty similar to Bambi and Faline from "Bambi" (imagine Neptune and Amphitrite's love scene with the song, "I Bring You A Song"/"Looking for Romance" in the background lol)

I guess Amphitrite was chosen to be Neptune's Queen so they can produce an Heir to the Throne but their feelings do matter for each other since hey, Amphitrite respects her Husband a lot.

Alright, so! Let me explain this request a bit since it's gonna be a bit different then what you might be used to. So this is a Yandere Alphabet that I came up with myself while watching Spongebob (because I was bored Lol), and it's supposed to be a sorta platonicish alphabet. I tried my hardest to make it platonic but it was a bit harder then you think :P What I did was I replaced the word 'darling' with 'loved one' bc I thought it was kinda lame to put 'friend' on there Lol.

He wants to make you feel special and happy as much as can be. If you’re not feeling great, then he tries to make you feel better.

Yes, he does. Whenever you’re feeling sad or scared he tries to calm you down by giving you something like muffins or maybe just some hugs to make you feel better. He’s not really good at relating to you or your problems, but he does try his hardest to make you feel amazing.

Feeling: How does the yandere feel around their loved one?

He mostly just feels shy and sometimes feels the butterflies when someone mentions your name. He has to constantly remind himself that you two are just friends.

Generous: Is the yandere generous towards their loved one?

Of course! Anything that you want of his is automatically yours no question.

Hopeful: Do they have plans for the future?

Not really. He just hopes that you two can remain friends for as long as possible.

Yes, he loves to give you muffins and sometimes buys you stuff that you’ve been wanting for a long time.

Reflections: She got better after Clace concerning tropes

(NB... this is gonna be my last Reflections because I've got uni and shit to take on in September 😗)

Okay, so we know Cassandra Clare uses age-old tropes in her books: enemies-to-lovers, strangers-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, the evil seductress, the fearless warrior, the secret special snowflake, etc. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, becuse it’s sort of impossible to create written media without using any tropes. It’s how you use the tropes that makes written media interesting, and what I’ve noticed is that Cassie has gotten better at using tropes and paragons since TMI in her books by adding little twists and turns to them to avoid them becoming generic.

Starting off with TMI and Clace for example, we see that Clary is the classic “special teen with hidden powers that discovers a new supernatural world”, falling into that category with Bella Swan, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, etc. Jace is the aloof hottie with a Dark Past, and operates like a modern day Achilles if he made it out of Elysium, lmao. He’s pretty akin to Edward Cullen, Peter Mellarke, Dimitri Belikov, etc. Clace and their character arcs especially in the first TMI trilogy were pretty generic, even at the time they were published. (NB but Jace really is Achilles man like he’s *golden*, has the military-type fighting skills and discipline, powerful daddy issues, best of the Shadowhunters kinda like how Achilles was the best of the Greeks, feared and lauded by everyone, believed he’s destined for tragedy).

But looking at TID, for example, Cassie went with the Love Triangle trope that was especially popular around the time that TID was written, and she was like “oh hell no” and then created the greatest thing in the world known as Herongraystairs *Spongebob rainbow gif*. The late 2000s were kind of a mild time, and the rule of thumb was that the the main girl just had to end up picking one man in the triangle but nawww Cassie decided that Tessa Gray (bless her) would get both of her male counterparts at appropriate times, love them equally AND have it happen without any hostility between them. She completely outdid the Love Triangle trope.

I made a post discussing why Jemma is a great ship and a great spin on the Forbidden Lovers trope already, but I also need to say that Julian is an exceptional character. He, without hesitation, takes on the most traditional of feminine roles in the series yet isn’t feminine at all- he’s a very masculine protagonist. Julian’s more masculine roles (being a leader in a political revolution, being a schemer, being a fighter) are perfectly foiled with the traits which often assigned to female YA protagonists (no sexual experience before Emma, raises his siblings and bakes and shit, isn’t the one who’s snarky and quips or gets violent quickly). In having Julian take on the main parent role in TDA, it allowed Cassie to show a YA male lead who’s secure and doesn’t depend on what others make traditional masculinity out to be in order to dictate his behavior.

Now let’s look at TLH lastly. I’m really partial to this series as you all may know *cough*. The trope here is Secrets and Miscommunication (which I know some of you absolutely hate, but I think some of said miscommunication is actually necessary given the social context of the series but alas, I don’t blame yall for hating TLH because of this at all, lol). See, what works about the whole secrets and miscommunication trope tho is that everyone is not what they seem. Like Matthew’s the Wildean Libertine right, but he’s actually managed to use that branding as a shield from the shame of his guilt (Oscar Wilde’s philosophy laudes beauty and love, yet Matthew himself does not believe himself to be worthy of this coveted love - Matthew’s soul has turned Gothic despite his self-branding as an aesthete). Grace is the Evil Seductress, the Femme Fatale who must be eliminated so the Good Girl can get the guy, but in reality, Grace is inquisitive and inventive and loving when she’s not guarded - the one woman who the world thinks is heartless is actually the one who hurts the most and enjoys hurting the least. Then we have the James who’s the Eligible Bachelor - he’s well read, a leader, good at Shadowhunting, polite, handsome, and desired by the ladies of London. Yet at his core runs Belial’s blood and his inevitable ties to literal Hell. James, who should be the classic charming hero, is running from something very unmistakably rotten within him (even though his heritage is beyond his control). So these societal paragons are all tinged with something unexpected that makes them interesting imo.

So yeah, to conclude: yes, Cassie’s writing uses a lot of generic tropes but I’d argue that her writing has improved to make age-old tropes and epithets interesting and novel as TSC progresses. I think we also could all attribute the creation of the Herondale to Cassie: obnoxiously attractive and poetic young male with a bottomless heart and strong opinions on the proclivities and capabilities of ducks? Yeah, that’s a Herondale.

I remember getting that ask, I just didn't have the brain juice for it at the time. I still don't have a lot of thoughts, my creative energy has been pretty sapped lately because. Very negative current events.

I'll try and come up with a few things at least.

Oogie's actually really smart since he built all of those traps himself. He mostly just falters with thinking through possible consequences and when it comes to relationships, taking a hint

Facilier is the smooth-talking type who tends to lean towards subtle flirtation, which means it took an embarrassingly long time for Oogie to figure out he was even into him

Though to be fair to Oogie, he's used to bug flirting methods, which are considerably different. He also may very well have not realized guys could like guys, because he likely figured out his persona by watching humans (headcanon: at a casino)

Oogie didn't actually figure out Facilier fancied him until he admitted he liked the Shadow Man first

"Wait, did you just flirt with me?" "Have been for the past eight months, Oogie, but thanks for noticing."

The other folks are happy for them but at the same time very frustrated because these two are a menace together. They're always pulling pranks on other characters or scaring them or something to that extent

They bring out the worst in each other but not in a supervillain kinda way, more like a "the two kids in the class that aren't allowed to sit next to each other because they will start scheming" way

I keep comparing their antics to more evil versions of SpongeBob and Patrick but it's accurate

"Oogie, I just thought of somethin' even funnier than 24." "What's that, Doc?" "Twenty-five ;)"

They send each other into absolute hysterical laughter with the simplest of jokes

As for Sam

Out of universe, he was named after the pint-sized adorable slasher from Trick 'r Treat. In-universe, his name has the same inspo as that slasher's: Samhain, the festival that later became Halloween

Sam loves bright neon colors because blacklight aesthetic

He's technically a prince because Oogie is considered royalty by bugs. Also Facilier's a royal himself on his mother's side

Sam's a prince the same way Bambi and Simba are. Wouldn't be recognized by Man but critters respect it

This makes him a Disney Prince just like how Carys is a Disney Princess

Sam gets helped in the morning by bugs and spiders and snakes, Carys gets helped in the morning by rats and skeletons and the Gwythaints

Lock, Shock and Barrel see Sam as their little brother despite him now being taller than them, and lord have mercy on anyone who messes with their little brother. That's their job!

The day was going slow. I had the day off work because I had just wanted a day to relax…so, I had decided to watch TV.

Sans was at work; a security guard at the mall. He was amazing at his job, especially that one time he was able to dodge three bullets and then pin the criminal to the ground until police arrived.

I was always super worried about him when he did that. I told him he could get killed. The surface wasn’t as easy to navigate as the underground. He simply gave me that ‘seriously, kid?’ look he has and tousled my hair.

I couldn’t find anything to watch at first, until I flipped through the channels straight to Spongebob. Huh…I had no idea Nickelodeon was still airing that. It seemed too old to be aired…and when I watched it, I realized they definitely had ruined it with the modern traits of kids’ shows nowadays.

I glanced at my phone. Sans would be home in an hour. I sighed to myself and slid further down into the couch cushions. I hated the days I had to wait for the skelebros to get off work. It was usually quite boring and I missed them a lot.

I began to realize I was tired, even though I had done absolutely nothing that day. I rubbed the bridge of my nose and gently shook my head, and before I knew it, I was yawning. ‘No,’ I thought to myself. ‘I have to stay awake for Sans….if not for Sans, then for Spongebob.’

I was able to continue watching the show for a good twenty minutes…however, I could hardly keep my eyes open at that point. I could feel my head start to get heavy, and then…I fell asleep.

I don’t know how long I was out. Ten minutes? Twenty? A half hour or so? I suppose it didn’t matter, but hot damn was that a good nap.

Almost as soon as I remember falling asleep, I heard a deep voice hidden behind the fog of my incoherent and drowsy mind. I dismissed it as part of a dream, as I was still half asleep.

Suddenly, I felt something warm but hard touch my cheek. Needless to say, it woke me up and I opened my eyes to be met with Sans’ own. He was grinning, amused with my sleeping habits.

“Hey,” he mumbled, moving his fingers from my jawline to my hair to brush some strands from my face. “You were sleepin’ good, kiddo. Ya didn’t wake up no matter how many times I said your name.”

“…Sans?” I muttered back. “I, uh…” I trailed off, trying to get my post-sleep thoughts together. And then my consciousness fully came back and I gave him a tired smile. “I must have dozed off.”

“No doubtin’ that.” He chuckled and stood up from the sofa, shrugging. “Wonder what made ya so sleepy. You never nod off watching TV.” He took off his security guard hat and set it on the end table before starting to head upstairs.

“What? Why are you leaving your hat down here? You could just bring it with you.” I scoffed, a brow raised. I should have expected his laziness, but no matter how long we were together, I couldn’t get past it.

“Nah. It told me it wanted to keep ya company,” he replied.

“Oh, did it?” I smirked at him, shaking my head. “You didn’t tell me hats could talk. Is that a monster thing, or..?”

“Well…hats actually can’t speak, so I dunno why you thought they could, sweetheart.” He winked.

“Sans! You were the one to-“ I began, my brows furrowed.

He cut me off, “Gee, ya don’t have to raise your voice about it.”

I huffed at him, but couldn’t help but smile at his silliness. “You changing, then?”

“Unless ya wanna cuddle a sweaty pile of clothes, yeah.”

“Okay. Well, hurry up. I want to ask you about your day.”

“Sure thing, kid.” Sans nodded and continued up the stairs. He soon disappeared behind a door.

I turned off the TV and stretched slightly, appreciating every crack my bones produced. If Sans were downstairs when I did that, he probably would’ve told me to knock it off; he hated hearing joints crack.

After a couple minutes, the comedian made his way back downstairs in his usual apparel: a blue hoodie, basketball shorts, and pink slippers. When I first had met him, I didn’t get his fashion choices, but I learned to accept it with time.

He plopped down next to me on the couch with an exaggerated grunt (he was always looking to get a laugh from me) before glancing at me. “You still tired?” he asked softly.

“…a little, yeah. But I want to talk to you about how today went,” I responded, enthusiastically turning my body towards him so I didn’t have to strain my neck looking sideways at him. “Sleep can wait.”

“Lay down,” he said.

“I told you, I-“

“I mean on me.” He motioned to his legs. “Lay across the sofa and put your head in my lap. I won’t tell you about work if you don’t.” His grin widened, and he was clearly amused with himself.

“I’m fine, I’ll fall asleep if I do that,” I explained, frowning. “Just-“

“Hey, it’s no skin off my back if ya do. Ya obviously need the sleep.” He shrugged. “Lay down ‘n I’ll tell ya all about today. Okay?”

I rolled my eyes and let out a breath. There was no use arguing with him. He usually always won these discussions. He cared about me more than I cared about myself, and it drove me crazy sometimes. Nevertheless, I did as he said and laid across the couch, my head in his lap and my eyes towards the ceiling.

I awkwardly shifted my body, trying to get comfy. All the while, Sans was looking down at me with his usual lazy expression…half lidded eyes and a consistent grin. I finally was okay with my position and nodded at him.

“Okay…so, ya know Jerry?” he started. “Well, he tried to steal some sorta shit from Spencer’s. Just…casually walked out with a hookah, thought I wouldn’t notice. Of course, I did, ‘n I…”

I began to zone out a bit, simply just admiring Sans’ face and voice…everything about him. He knew I spaced out during his usual workday updates, and he was fine with it. We were just happy to be with each other, most days.

I caught words like ‘tackle’, ‘smiled’, and ‘shop’ throughout his ranting, and I reacted accordingly to each of them. With a quick scowl, a smirk, and a nod.

After about twenty minutes, I noticed he wasn’t talking anymore. When had he stopped? I wasn’t sure, but I didn’t continue questioning it. I was used to those zoned-out moments that had me wondering things like that. Sometimes I would be so focused on admiring his face that I wouldn’t notice when he was done speaking.

Now he was staring into space…or maybe he was looking at our reflection on the TV screen? Either way, I gave him a little grin, reaching my arm up his chest and gently hooking my fingers along his shoulder. It took a second, but he glanced down at me.

“Finally with us, again?” he teased, softly chuckling. “I’ve been done talking for an hour. I was getting bored waitin’ for ya to notice.”

“It hasn’t been an hour,” I replied, giggling.

“Yeah, guess you’re right…but it was fun to say it was,” he answered, looking me in the eyes.

It then went super silent. Not an awkward silence, but something soothing and comfortable…something that was mostly likely a bonding moment if you let it be. The kind of silence that made everything in the world feel…right.

After a couple moments, I heard a low sound…almost like a gentle rumbling. It was slightly familiar, but I couldn’t tell where I had heard it before.

I frowned, and looked around. There wasn’t really anything in the room that would be making that noise. I then fixed my gaze to Sans, again.

“What’s up?” he said.

“Do you hear that?”

“Hear what?”

“That rumbling sound?”

“…huh?”

“You don’t hear it?” I raised a brow, and he shook his head.

I scoffed and sat up slightly, only to notice it was louder near his chest. I subtly tilted my head and put an ear to his rib cage.

“What’re ya doin’, sweetheart?” he asked, his own brow also raised.

“Sans, I think you’re…purring,” I replied, noticing I sounded extremely confused. I was. Extremely confused, that is.

“Wh-“ he mumbled. “I…I am?”

“You didn’t know you could do that?” Now I sounded even more puzzled.

“No,” he quickly told me. He paused. “No, no I didn’t.”

The purring began to fade slightly, and I decided to experiment; I sat up and turned so I could see him straight before leaning forward and giving him a soft kiss on his cheek. He blushed. Just as I thought, the purring became a bit louder.

“Ha! You’re purring because of me!” I snapped, excited at this discovery.

“It’s not my fault you’re so pretty,” he responded, almost shyly.

“I didn’t know you could purr.”

“…neither did I.”

“Now we know.”

“Yup.”

“It’s adorable,” I cooed.

His smile widened.

“Guess what?” I questioned.

“What?” he replied.

“I didn’t fall asleep while you were talking.” I giggled.

And with that, he pulled me into a kiss…and I knew that he loved me…and I hoped he knew I loved him, too.

(Voila! I hope you enjoyed this oneshot. Not my best writing, but I had a lot of fun writing it. Sans fluff is my favorite fluff 😊 also there might be grammar mistakes and typos I’ll probably fix later, just so you know if you see one.)

Well you’re sort of right. Captain Barnacles is my favorite character 100%, but the reason why I draw those two together so often is because the show has established that they are really good friends. 

Where ever the Captain is, Kwazii is usually nearby. Kwazii was the only one that knew about the Captains fear, Kwazii is the Octonauts lieutenant, which probably means that they spend a lot time around each other. They share a bed pod, they have had these little interactions that don’t happen with anyone else. Like fist bumps, shoulder pats etc.

They’re even used as an example of symbiosis in the crab and urchin episode! Now, you can interpret that how you’d like, but I believe the show is somewhat subtly trying to push the point that these two are best friends, like family even.

So when ever I draw Captain Barnacles, I always have an incentive to draw Kwazii with him. :}

Honestly by my headcannons, I feel like Kwazii would need it more than anyone else really. But yeah, the Captain could really use me a pick me up. XD

Well I may have needed more time to “relax”, but I just missed you guys too much lol.

Wow! That’s a lot of shows! I don’t recall really watching.. any of them.. any way uh- that aside, there are several shows I used to watch as a kid. Some weren’t meant for kids but were still funny to me.

For one, like I’m sure a lot of people did, I watched SpongeBob.

I also used to watch, of course, Octonauts. Although that was when I was a wee bit older.

I also used to watch The Three Stooges.. this one was for adults I think but it was still hilarious.

I also used to watch Beetle Baily, although this one was kind of like a once a year tradition type thing we did.

There may be one or two more but I don’t recall.. I mean, we did have one episode of speed racer that I watched over and over and over again. Or.. was it a movie? Heh, I uh, cant really recall..

No I don’t ship anyone personally, although I can see how some of their dynamics could be seen like that.

I have watched both Octonauts movies and season 1-3 on Netflix. When it comes to season 4, so far I haven't had much trouble just finding it on YouTube.

When it comes to watching season 4 in order, just go to the episode wiki, find the names in order and keep searching on YouTube until you’re sure you’re on the right episode. Pretty sure you can find basically all the Octonauts episode this way, go ahead and give it a shot! Hope it works!

To keep the fourth wall breaking to a minimum, what would my Transformer OCs think of Octonauts?

Suburban, A.T.Dragster, Green Truck, Escort, Vega, Red Van, Brown Suburban, Miata, AND Honda, most likely wouldn't really be interested and wouldn’t really have an opinion on the show, but they don't make fun of anyone who does watch it. No matter how old. Volvo specifically would respect the educational aspect of the show and most likely wouldn’t pick on anyone for watching it either.

U.M.Dragster would kind’a poke fun at the show and its imperfections. But low key is peeking around the corner wanting to know what the characters do next.

White Truck thinks it pretty cool and kind’a likes to watch it with others, but wont really go out of his way to watch it on his own.

Beluga would probably think its really cute, bet 10 bucks her favorite character is Kwazii.

Ranger would be hooked. She loves everything about Earths water and want’s to learn everything about it. Including the creatures that live in it. She would appreciate the show “dumbing everything down” for her, because she doesn’t know these basic things that kids know. Having everything “dumbed down” makes it easier for her to understand everything.

Jeepy’s driver used to make fun of me for watching it, but now he thinks it neat. So maybe he’d think its silly but eventually come around?

I just haven’t had a good opportunity to draw them yet is all. 

Hmmmm.... let me think.. I feel like my Transformer OCs would mostly like certain aspects of seasonal things, not one season and all of its aesthetics as a whole.

Suburban, Red Van, Escort, Brown Suburban and Green Truck love the bonfire part of colder weather. The warm, bright and surrounded by loved ones aspect of it is what they enjoy. Especially Brown Suburban. He loves bonfires man. The more light and heat the better, that poor mech is freezing his aft off out there in that old manky dark shed all by himself. He just wants to be around his loved ones where its warm and bright.

Miata would probably like pumpkin spice lattes, and just that aspect of fall. Beluga and Honda however would be all over fall and all its traditions. They’d be all over every season really, always up to date with trends and having fun.

The Dragsters are all about summer and its aesthetics. Summer is the prime time for dragstrips and the weather they function most efficiently in so they’re all for it.   

Vega is more about fall. Sure its not really racing weather, but he does like all the pretty colors and the temperature is just right for him.

White Truck would like summer the most. He’d like the attire, the swimming, the warmth, all of it. He’d function a little on the edge I’d think though, he does have a bit of an overheating issue.. but still, I think summers for the win.

Ranger would like summer. Summer = more fish in the water. She loves to look at fish and be out in the water and just explore everything. Summer is when most of the fish are around so she’d really enjoy that. When it comes to seasonal outfits and food? Meh, waters cooler.

Volvo doesn't care for any weather or aesthetics honestly. But would prefer fall for its cooler temperatures. Having so many layers of armor is bound to make you overheat eventually.

Jeepy would like the fall and winter most of all, because of MUD. Going slipin, driftin and slidin with Bash is a real hoot, so he’d really like those seasons. He’s just built for them you know? Plus he’d kill a man for a glass of eggnog so he likes that aspect of cooler seasons too. :}

Bash Buggy likes summer and spring for the temperatures mostly. He also likes winter and fall, but because of the mud, he doesn’t like them for any other reason. Just the mud and goofing around with Jeepy. Everything else about those cold seasons are terrible, and he cant even see all the pretty colors and aesthetics so what does it matter? His body has no insulation anymore so the cold just eats him up, and he cant go outside in the snow because of his blindness and the cold. So he’s stuck shivering indoors while his friends go goof around in the snow without him. Colder seasons suck besides mud, the warmer ones are a win.

I don’t know, it just kind’a makes me uncomfortable. Not all artists are the same, not all artists like that.

It kind of feels like stealing to me in a way, I just don’t like it..

I want to, but I am completely halted by the knowledge that these comics don’t get much traction. They only get a handful of notes when I post them, which just makes them feel like a waste of time.

I’m weird about time. I don't like talking about my interests with others because I know I’m wasting their time and they don’t care anyway.

I am heavily discouraged to draw things online, not just because people steal, but because only a handful of people truly care and get excited about them.

And I mean, a handful of lovely followers, is a handful lovely followers. But you can see how a people pleaser like me would drift towards what people want me to draw instead of what I want to draw.

And when it comes to what people want me to draw? Besides those lovely few, people don’t want to see my comics.

Submitting instead of asking because I cannot express any idea in less than like 500 words lol

So I had been following WayneRadioTV for a while but had only ever seen one of his streams (chimps for charity) and nothing else.. Then one day I get yet another notification he's streaming and on a whim I go, "Sure, let's see what this dude is doing." And that turned out to be the very first hlvrai stream! [Insert meme of spongebob pointing at himself on TV, but it's me pointing at myself in the chat of the HLVRAI streams]  Having no knowledge of any of his similar previous streams or about any of his friends made it an incredibly weird/hilarious/surreal/surprising experience. I think part of the reason I got so into it was because of how blindsided I was by it.

Ironic or serious?

I was absolutely non-ironically hooked by the end of the first stream.

Twitch or Youtube?

Made sure to catch every stream from then on, and then watched the youtube videos when they came out as well. I tuned into the commentary too.

How passionate?

I was extremely obsessed with it for... I dunno, a few months, at least. I'm very passionate in general about the way long-form improv can coalesce into a unique and interesting story, and HLVRAI is no different. It's still my main fandom (or tied for it, at least?) but the super-fun, super-obsessed days are behind me.

Make/engage in fan content?

I drew some and wrote bits and pieces of fic here and there, but I didn't publish anything outside of my small discord until something like a year after the first stream. It's been... a steady but very slow output from me, as is usually the case with any fandom I'm in. I looked at a lot of art and fic for a good few months in the beginning, but mostly stopped eventually because the fandom was/is so horrendous that it wasn't worth putting up with it for the content. :') (Now 95% of the hlvrai content i consume is made by people in my private little discord)

Following content creators?

I followed Wayne on Twitch already, as I mentioned. I didn't know of anyone else in the crew beforehand (although their meme presence was certainly felt far and wide). I followed Gir, Holly, Baaulp, Scorpy, and Log afterward for quite a while, but I don't follow any of them anymore, including Wayne. I still follow Wayne on Tumblr though.

Favorite characters/moments?

My favorite character was always Tommy. Second favorite is probably Bubby. I really love Darnold but I don't think about him much since he has so little screentime. I actually found Benry to be a little annoying and tedious at first. He was definitely the character I was the least interested in. When I saw the emerging popularity of Benry/Gordon, I knew it was only a matter of time before I was Mere-Exposure-Effect'ed into liking him... And I was right, haha. I have to admit I love that sort of ship dynamic.

As for moments.. Gah, There are so many I love that just aren't on the top of my head right now. >_< Benry's monologue at the end is a classic, of course. Also the part with Coomer quietly saying, "None of this is real, is it?" And I love the parts where they're just sitting in a circle and talking.

One of the big reasons I looked forward to the streams was definitely because I wanted to see what would happen with the characters / I just wanted to see more of them in general.

Know anyone IRL?

I introduced my IRL friend to it, and she thought it was hilarious, but she didn't get into it in a fandom sense. Everything else has been online. (And mostly in small private discords.)

Other Stuff

Idk if any of the following would be relevant to the paper at all, but I don't feel like I've completely told My HLVRAI Story without it.

1) I got suuuper into half life through hlvrai. I had actually already played the HL series before, years ago, and it didn't really leave much of an effect on me. But for some reason I LOVE it now. Maybe it's because hlvrai made me think more deeply about the HL universe?

2) Cannot possibly stress enough how negative my experience of the fandom was. At this point I don't actually like seeing most content or even talk of HLVRAI from people I don't already know, because I have this pavlovian response of getting upset. I'm honestly very surprised I'm still into hlvrai with how thoroughly and irreversibly I've managed to connect it to bad experiences in my mind. -_- (That's kind of just what fandom in general is like these days, though... At least in my experience.)

Well... This ended up being way longer than I thought it was going to be, and that's saying something. No hard feelings if you don't wanna post it because of that, or because of the negative bits. ^^;;

I am SO SORRY LOL THIS HAS LITERALLY BEEN SITTING IN MY DRAFTS I have NO IDEA why it wasn’t posted, but better late than never! 

1. how I feel about this character:

I like Sirius less than I like Remus, but more than I like James, but that’s honesty probably because we have like no way of knowing what James was actually like, but Sirius is the closest thing we get. I think he’s honestly a little crazy, but he only uses his heart when it comes to literally every decision he makes so it’s not really insanity, he just has no emotional/coping skills whatsoever. I get really torn when it comes to him because it’s obviously he loves Harry and that he loves James/Lily/Remus, but it does make me angry that he sat in prison for 12 years instead of giving Harry a home. The werewolf incident also raises a lot of questions too, and I think that’s where Sirius and James were fundamentally different. I get the feeling sometimes Sirius might’ve buried a lot of impulses to please James, because James was the Good Guy, and after time, that might’ve stuck. He is one of my favorite characters though, his story is heartbreaking and one of the more compelling because I see a lot of myself in him sometimes. Being controlled by your emotions and wasting parts of your life away because of it is a Big Mood.

2. romantic pairing:

Remus Lupin, Remus Lupin, and uhhhhh Remus Lupin. Sorry, Wolfstar is canon, you can pry this from my cold dead hands.

3. Non-romantic OTP:

Surprise! Remus Lupin. No, I really do love them together, romantic or not. Remus is outwardly so calm and cool and collected and brilliant but on the instead hes that episode of spongebob where all the little spongebobs are running around and everything is on fire. Sirius is outwardly a hot mess express, but I think he does a lot more thinking than he likes to show. I also think Lily and Sirius would totally be bros, but we have no way of knowing since they’re both dead :-)

4. unpopular opinion:

Sirius isn’t as perfect of a character as everyone thinks lol. he had some major character flaws, almost murdered snape (snape did like 10 billion times worse but I’m not going to compare/contrast here) and i’m sorry, but he wallowed in azkaban for 12 years. DUDE, come ON. he’s dramatic and over the top and he should’ve fought more for harry.

5. what do you wish happened?

I wish he hadn’t died for harry’s sake. that death was probably the hardest to read, only because of what happened afterwards. it makes my heart break for remus, too. I also REALLY WISH HE HADN’T SAID “NICE ONE JAMES” BECAUSE WHAT THE FUCK MAN --

I adore Dumbledore. He is the exact shade of fuck-upped I enjoy the most. He is loving, and he believes in that love above all else, but he did/does some fucked up shit despite this. I think the thing I love most about Dumbledore is that it is so apparent that he loves Harry and believes that he will prevail, because Harry carries that love with him. but in the end, Dumbledore is willing to sacrifice him, and while I know it’s controversial, Harry literally had to die or Voldemort was going to take over the world and kill everyone. despite this, I don’t think in his heart of hearts Dumbledore would’ve actually let Harry go through with it unless he knew Harry would come back. I think Dumbledore actually has a reaction when Harry tells him that Voldemort used his blood in the ritual in GoF. and that is SO FUCKED UP, it is SO painful, and my heart hurts for the old guy because he was so lonely in this knowledge.

Alternatively, Dumbledore and Snape. Both each others secret-keepers and probably the person they each trust the most, but still terribly lonely. The dynamic of Snape being like “I want to die” and Dumbledore cheerily chiming in with “Death is but the next great adventure!” is also priceless. the scene when Dumbledore makes Snape pull the Christmas popper gets me every. fucking. time.

he was a genuinely good person who had to make terrible decisions because who the fuck else was going to? he loved harry -- period.

I sound like a broken record but I wish he hadn’t died, I wish he had been way more open with Harry and provided him with some more parental comfort since Sirius couldn’t. It’s a shame they both couldn’t find more comfort in each other.

Uh. Many! I do a lot of one-offs (and/or start long things I never finish) in many different places. My top three fandoms by fics written are RWBY (29), Undertale (25), Gravity Falls/Transcendence AU (4).

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

1. Sweeter Than Honey (Undertale): Taking a Completely unsurprising first place, with over 600 more kudos than the runner-up, the haphazard Underswap fic featuring a post-college self-insert I wrote just after high school! I shake my head some at how overblown and ridiculous the gap between this and all my other stuff is (c’mon, guys, I’ve written way better fics), but this is also the fic which prompted me (and at least one other person!) to start using they/them pronouns. I’ve gotten a lot of really sweet comments about how seen and appreciated it’s made people feel, so I can’t get down too far about it.

2. To Be A Hero (BNHA): I don’t count myself as part of the BNHA fandom, for a number of reasons, but for something that’s arguably the main motivation for the entire plot, Midoriya’s quirklessness is something I’ve never thought has been handled well. This fic marked the first time I (somewhat tentatively) claimed the disability label (thanks again to Sweeter Than for prompting that realization) to hold that lens over canon. It also really shot up my chart, dang! It’s the only thing here I’d consider “recent.”

3. Three-Sentence Shipping (Undertale): Self-explanatory.

4. Brothers Beyond Bonedaries (Undertale): Ah, the way-overcomplicated AU³ I got nowhere close to finishing. One of the things I really like about Undertale is the interface screw, how Toby Fox uses the medium of the video game to pull off crazy things and enhance his game, but most of the fic written for the fandom seems dedicated to explaining it away, grounding it, rather than taking it to the next step and messing with the medium of fanfiction when you keep the story going. I tried to do something cool like that here, playing with questions like narrator and authorship and breaking the fourth wall, even taking the “final boss” fight to a “totally separate” fic reached through the first by link – but, well, then I never finished it, which probably didn’t make anything less confusing for the poor folks who missed the intent.

5. Spirit and Such (Gravity Falls: Transcendence AU): A whole fic written to line out a particular image I had, which, naturally, never made it to the page. I consider it a bit of a cautionary tale for myself when it comes to writing (near-)original content; there’s a lot I look back on and cringe. I still love the characters, though – well, the important ones – and I think just stepping away from the tried-and-true Mizar formula nets it a star sticker here.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

>w>; I try, but a lot of the time I just don’t have anything to say? Like, oh, you liked it? Neat. There’s not much to respond to in comments like that, and then I’m weighing falling down on an ~obligation~ to respond to every message in my inbox vs annoying people with copy-paste fluff responses all down the page. Plus I know I make more of an effort to comment on things that didn’t get the attention I feel they deserve, so if I’m driving up my own comment count with nonsense, am I preventing myself from being in a position to receive more comments later? And then if I do comment, am I being too effusive or running people’s ears off explaining things they don’t actually need to know? Sometimes people just want to express interest or admiration and don’t necessarily want a whole peek and guided tour behind the curtain.

Anyway, I do respond when I can. And I keep most of the comments I’ve gotten to go back and reread. 

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hm, hmm. Lots of stuff in the TQ Nonsense series would probably qualify! I’m thinking of Unfixable, Wolfsong, and Ethanol. And there’s Bursting Through A Blood-Red Sky (I Can Live, I Can Breathe), of course, but that was always intended to have a fix-it epilogue. It’s just that I wrote it in a couple of hours day-of, stared at it, and decided I didn’t wanna just then. But now that’s As Long As You’re Still Burning Bright (I’m Still Awake), and that’s probably the best romance I’ve written, so that one worked out.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve ever written?

Now and then! When the urge strikes. Uhhh, I’ve got a series of Doctor Who x Undertale crossovers I actually made a whole dang verse for that never made it to print. Get a couple great comments on that every few months or so. I think the World Trigger x Undertale crossover is probably weirder, though, by virtue of WT being a very small fandom. My enthusiasm kinda sputtered out on that one.

Mostly I just daydream crossovers with whatever happens to catch my eye at any given moment. I have a lot!!!! Though odds are out on whether I manage to remember any of them once the initial thought’s passed, lol.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Gotten a couple eyebrow-raising comments, but I think mostly I’m just too small a writer to draw that kind of attention.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don’t? think so? Think my tastes are a little niche for most people to bother ^^;

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I had someone apologize once for any language mistakes in their comment cause they had to run it through a translator! That’s not what you asked (the answer is no), but it’s very flattering to think that someone liked my fic enough to read and comment despite the language barrier.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! :D @pidgeonpostal was gracious enough to agree to co-write Five Nights at Denny’s with me off an idea about shoes. This has fulfilled a long-held dream of mine (collabing with someone, not the shoes) and also introduced me to some lovely people.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

Who has time for just one? ;3c Honestly, I care more about the characters and how the relationship – any relationship – between them changes them than I do about ~A Ship~ as a solid, bounded noun-object. I’ve got characters I like more and less and feelings about who does and doesn’t have chemistry in which directions with whom, but finding anything that agrees with those preferences is hard, harder when you take alloromanticism into account. I’ll play in any sandbox with cool toys, especially if other folks have already built sick sandcastles there.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

[kicks every single unfinished fic further under the bed] What nooo no WIPs here, everything on my account is either finished or does not exist

I’ve got a couple extra chapters of Sweeter Than floating around unposted, but 1. that fic’s a mess 2. high school Twixt and post-college Twixt are different people and trying to contort myself into three other me-shapes just cause people Like this fic is not something I’m super interested in 3. it’s headed for an emotional dip and I’d rather leave it where it is than post two chapters, stall out again, and leave folks with a bad end.

As for other fics... it’s looking more and more likely that v7 of my Yellow Brick Road AU will never actually make it out. >w>; I’ve got some really great ideas, but not enough to make me feel like I know what I’m doing, and that’s a big roadblock. Plus trying to engage with RT’s Atlas-Mantle worldbuilding in any serious capacity is... a headache. I can’t recommend the Happy Huntress Cinematic Universe enough, but it leaves some pretty big shoes to follow! And I’ve got small feet. <w<;

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue’s fun, probably as an extension of characterization. I love tearing into what makes people tick, especially against the backdrop of their environment, the story they’re in, and the people they’re up against. Voice is a double-edged sword; I’ve been told my writing is really recognizable and individual, but on the other hand, I’ve been growing frustrated with with the limits of my narrative ability. There’s a strong rhythm I keep when I write (you might notice it here, even) but that leaves me feeling predictable and stale. I’m not sure I’m great at setting as a matter of course, but I’m pretty good at describing setpieces where the need comes up; that comes from my background in poetry, as does the fun I have with sublimating and abstracting complex imagery. And I think I bring some needed nuance to the universal. For good or ill, I don’t do what “everyone else” is doing.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Well, writing, for one thing. If I don’t know how something’s going to go and don’t have the urge to write it, it isn’t getting done, which means there’s a billion things that will never see the page and a few hundred more that are never getting finished. I lose momentum easily and have a hard time getting started, and I put way too much standing on finding a foothold with other people; as critical as I am of my work, I have high expectations for the stuff that passes muster, and it never seems to measure up. I’m also really uncreative. Yeah, I can mix up elements and extrapolate events, but coming up with things wholesale is really hard, which is why I avoid it wherever possible and steal/reskin stuff from other places instead.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Something along the lines of “Hoo boy, I am Not qualified for this but hopefully it’s decent anyway.” Maria’s Spanish lines haven’t been a big deal – I’ve used it sparingly and, as a Latin language, it should be easy for English-speaking audiences to pick up on the gist – but I’ve had a harder time with Tai’s Chinese, both because I have Even Less background there and because it is, of course, an entirely different language system. If I write it out in English or Romanized italics, am I colonizing it or changing the meaning? If I write it out in the presumed-original characters (presumed because it’s Google Translate and who knows if I’m even barking in the right forest), am I confusing or alienating my presumed-majority-English-speaking audience? Where should I put the translations? Should I put the translations? And for Frisk’s sign language, thinking back, are the brackets I used instead of quotes alienating/infantilizing? I like that different characters give the text between a different feel, but I’m not an ASL speaker – and I’m pretty sure the word is “speaker,” which would only reinforce that that demographic would rather I didn’t do that. It’s important for all these characters, I think, that they use non-English language where it makes sense; it’s part of who they are. But as a white monolingual English-speaker, I don’t think I can really weigh in.

What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

Thaaaat’d be Pokémon, followed closely with Sonic the Hedgehog. Whether those fics are still on my ff.net account or not (pretty sure I’ve purged them, but you never know) I’ve still got a couple saved to a folder on my current laptop, ostensibly so I can look back and see how far I’ve come and more practically to allow for the possibility of furthering group cohesion through public shaming.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I still like the idea behind The Man Who Is Atlas, and Burning Bright (Still Awake) gets props for being my current fic, though it’s currently in that spot where I’m excited to get new chapters posted but also quietly marking everything up in red pen. I think Harbinger gets the crown here, at least for now.

When was the last time you went to Wal-Mart? Back in March before the quarantine/lockdown and shit really hit the fan.

Which is worse: Runny nose or stuffy nose? Both are very annoying, but feeling like you can’t breathe is definitely the worst. 

Do you hate how people are quick to judge? i think we all have that tendency, some more than others. It can be an issue when you let that judgment form your whole opinion about a person without even knowing them. Except in extreme cases of course when it a quick judgment could be useful, like if you’re feeling uncomfortable or someone appears to be sketchy. 

Has anyone ever made you feel small? Yes.

Would you rather give your food to a homeless shelter or money to charity? Food to a homeless shelter would be more direct and immediate. When you donate money to a charity you don’t really know when or how it gets used, exactly. And it can take time to be sorted out and distributed. That being said, of course donating to charities is good and important and will help in the long run. I’m just saying, donating food to a homeless shelter would be something they could use immediately and benefit them directly. Does any of this make sense?

Can you tell when your best friend is lying? I think I’m typically pretty good at that.

Would you pay extra money for make up just to make you look prettier? Ha, all the makeup in the world didn’t make a difference for me. Still ugly. I stopped even bothering with it.

Do you like to look at license plates to see where people are from? I don’t pay much attention to that.

Are you more hungry or tired right now? I’m both. My sleep schedule continues to be weird. I fell asleep around 230AM until about 4AM and then fell asleep again shortly after that until like 7:45AM. Now it’s 8:46AM and here I am. Like wtf? And lately I’ve been having a bit more of an appetite, so I’ve been feeling hungrier earlier than usual and actually eating more than just dinner and my late bowl of ramen. My body is such a mess.

Do you follow your head or heart more? It’s a battle.

Are you independent or dependent? Dependent as all hell. I’ll put my foot down on very certain things, but most of the time I prefer hearing input or suggestions from people I trust. I definitely think it’s something I still have to work on because I know I’ll have to be mostly independent at some point.

If you could put your life into a category, where would it go? I feel like this would be easier to answer if you gave a list of categories. I don’t know what kind of insight you’re looking for.

How many animals do you have? I have two, but I call them pets.

Are you popular? Idk and I don’t care. All I know is I don’t actively seek to be so.

What time were you born? 9:11 in the evening.

Have you had any candy this week? Yeah, I had a gummy worm this morning. Mom bought a box of Halloween-themed sweets and there were cupcakes had gummy worms on them alongside marshmallows designed to look like a tombstone.

Are you more afraid of tornadoes or hurricanes? Hurricanes are terrifying, but I’m used to them. We don’t get tornadoes at all so I’ll not only be unprepared for those, but would definitely be more afraid of them too.

What was the last movie you cried at? That Thing Called Tadhana. I had watched it five years ago after my first breakup; I got to go to Sagada shortly after that breakup, so that movie was actually very therapeutic for me at the time because it allowed me to release my feelings the way Mace did, also in Sagada. Now I’m stuck at home and can’t travel and that movie just hurt too much to finish.

What ice cream flavor best describes your personality? I don’t really...pair ice cream flavors with types of personalities.

Would you rather work for a small or large company? Large, because I feel like I’d be challenged more in those and thus learn more. Also it just looks nicer on resumés, if I’m being honest. Smaller companies are ok too but I prefer those that already have a rep for churning excellent results and having a good track record for workplace culture, like the company I’m currently working with.

Where's your favorite place to buy clothes? Ukays. I used to not like them, but my mom and sister did a great job reeling me in and making me see the appeal.

How many languages do you speak? Two.

What was the worst movie you've ever seen? Me Before You was such a waste of my time. Predictable, cheesy, and typical asshole-guy-softens-up-over-time-oh-and-just-as-you-start-to-root-for-him-we’re-gonna-kill-him-off. But idk, I was with friends who were into movies like those and I wanted to support them, so I went along to watch.

What video game have you played the most? Cumulatively, pretty sure it’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

What was your favorite TV show as a child? I was a Nickelodeon girl and Spongebob, Fairly OddParents, and My Life as a Teenage Robot were my top 3, with Jimmy Neutron closely trailing at #4. I loved Disney shows too but wasn’t really able to appreciate them as much until I got a little older and could understand their humor better.

What's your favorite sport? My answer won’t change - if it counts, pro wrestling. If it doesn’t, my next favorite is table tennis.

If you were given a brand new yacht, what would you name it? Nothing creative is coming to me at the moment.

Do you believe there’s life on other planets? Yes. Maybe not the ones in our solar system, but those out in the distant universe for sure.

What was the worst place you ever traveled to? Can’t say I’ve truly disliked a particular place we’ve been to. I will say that Chinese people have a...culture that I’m not used to, and I did not enjoy touring with a bunch of them during my cruise. So Pizza Hut confirms the order, calls me up and says the ETA, so far so good. Around 15 minutes later the doorbell rings and it’s...KFC? With our original orders? Apparently that stupid ass app took our order anyway after repeatedly canceling it, and I never got one fucking notification that our order was received. Tried to cancel Pizza Hut but they said they had already started making the pizzas, so in the end we had to pay for both meals. I had never been so angry.

Not always. $7 or ₱350 is actually pretty reasonable if you wanna see a movie at an upscale mall; people who watch movies in places like that shouldn’t be complaining about movie tickets that cost that much. But all movie theaters are the same anyway - pitch black, freezing, comfy chairs - so I just go to midscale malls where tickets would be like a hundred bucks cheaper since it’s gonna give me the same experience anyway.

Would you like to be a newscast person? For a long time I thought I wanted to be one because that’s what my entire family was rooting me to become. Eventually I realized reading from a teleprompter, interviewing guests, and asking questions to reporters is not a career I want.
