Friendly reminder that this series is not yet rated. This may change with time! No, this is not shit posting, it is basically an alternate universe fan fiction, however there will be bloopers.
This blog provides upload notifications and behind the scenes lore and headcannons. On this blog and my channel I edited some TDA models for non-profit personal use for the specific reason of making this series, please contact me if you have questions or require a donation for this reason. I do not make models from scratch, further credits are in the links, as well as the author's other downloadable works. I also have ZERO intention of sharing my MMD edits nor do I ever intend to use them for R18 situations. Please understand I do not have a deep understanding of the history of MMD, I am blindly experimenting, so I would appreciate if you go easy on me about how things are done and how I can help you. Thank you. Disclaimers for ALL posts: I am primarily a writer and talkloid tuner and focus on nostalgia. I legally own copies of my voice banks, V4 Editor, SynthV Pro, the tuning work, the raw bass and electric violin sounds, the story writing itself, its Japanese, English, and later Italian translations. I position and edit other people's MMD models to help portray some events and use stock images and any other sounds from Pixabay simply because I do not draw or do my own voice work anymore thanks to A.I.. I create my videos with CaptCut for free and use a legal copy of RPG Maker VX Ace for the subtitles. Most of this is freeware and creativity. That said, I do understand 1,000% enforcement is unreasonable, people will undoubtedly pirate tuning files anyway, so my works that I own will have a high paywall and require credit upon use. Once it's out there, it's out there, the internet will outlive me and I honestly just care for respect while I'm still breathing. Nothing is copyrighted as of yet but that may happen in the future. #5QLS tag
When you get this, list 5 songs from the Asian QL shows that you actually listen to. 🎶They do not have to be custom-made for the series. 🎶Non-western tracks only. Let's support Asian music and languages! 🎶Feel free to tag anyone who may be interested in participating. 🎶Add #5qls tag to your post for others to find the new favourites!
I was tagged by @shannankle, thank you <3
But omg this wasn't easy because I'm a bit allergic to pop ballads, and what genre is the home of about 99,9% of the music in Asian QL? Well... But this was an opportunity to think about what music I've noticed and enjoyed, even though I don't listen to more than one of these with any regularity.
By the way, if anybody knows where the tension theme in Big Dragon is from PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I love that and would like to find out if it's a full song when it's not just trilling sinisterly for eight seconds to set the mood.
The one I actually listen to, quite often:
Jeff Satur - Comedy (from He She It)
youtube
When Jeff Satur does darkness he does it very, very well. Comedy is beautifully haunting. The Tragedy version, too. (Honourable mention to the Big Dragon theme song Dancing With The Devil, which to my knowledge he wrote and which has a gorgeous chorus.)
The one that made me scramble for Soundhound:
Gene Kasidit - Never Gonna Leave You Behind (from Gay OK Bangkok)
youtube
We're counting Gay OK Bangkok as QL-adjacent enough for this list because I say so. It's pretty rare that I prick my ears up when watching QL, but this snagged my attention and made me want to dance. While I don't listen to Gene Kasidit often, he went straight on my favourites list for when I'm in the mood.
The one that sounds like absolutely not my cup of tea but somehow is:
77Ke - Take It Away (from About Youth)
youtube
I like this guy's voice a lot, and there's a feel to this song that sneaks its hand into mine and holds on. While I don't listen to this often, I certainly gave it several extra listens while About Youth was airing.
The one that isn't an actual song:
Theme (from Dirty Laundry)
youtube
I can't even find a proper video or track for it, and the lack of a track is the reason why I don't listen to it as such. Don't care. I danced at the start of every episode and whistle it often.
The one I can't help but sing along to:
Slot Machine - เพียงไว้ใจ/Free Fall (from KinnPorsche The Series)
youtube
I like that the Thai and The English versions have different POVs in the lyrics. Also it's so fucking catchy. I doubt I'd have noticed it all that much if it hadn't been the theme song of a wonderful series, but it is and I did.
I suspect everyone's done this already, but if you've made it all the way to the end of this post you're so tagged.

[ad_1] A Taylor Swift fan “fought really, really, really hard” to overturn the lodging arrangement chaos surrounding the mega pop star’s concert stops. The “Gorgeous” Grammy winner is set to kick off the second North American leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour, which was indispensable in cracking her numbers as a new-ranking billionaire this year. Swift will be enchanting her army of fans in New Orleans this weekend, and thanks to Rebecca Fox, some of her fellow Swifties living outside Louisiana won’t have to run up and down the street, struggling to score a pocket-friendly option for their stay during the weekend concert getaway. Why did the Taylor Swift fan book 191 hotel rooms? After dedicated hard work spanning more than a year, Fox cracked the ingenious, heartwarming formula to help fans of the global pop star, flying in to see the magic happen in New Orleans. According to PEOPLE, the Taylor Swift fan has purchased a block of 191 hotel rooms at a Holiday Inn. Ahead of their favourite singer’s concert stop, fans have also won the opportunity to participate in Fox’s Eras Tour “convention,” which she is now calling Holiday House. The name takes after the lyrical sentimentality of Swift’s folklore track “the last great american dynasty.” Fox was ultimately fuelled by her own experience of seeing Swift’s magic unfold during the world tour to launch this fan-immersive experience. Fans accustomed to the concert-cracking experience must be well aware that securing tickets to a musician’s concert, especially when that artist is Taylor Swift, is only half a step toward finally witnessing them firsthand on stage. Excessive flight and hotel costs add to the gruelling battle leading up to D-Day. In all that hustle and bustle, not everyone wins the opportunity to feel the warmth of the fan community and a sense of belonging with other fellow fans of the same artist. “I didn’t get to trade bracelets. I didn’t get to meet anybody. I didn’t get to take a photo outside the stadium,” Fox told the outlet, considering she boarded a train to Los Angeles and drove a rental car to the event, barely spending a whole day in Phoenix for the only night show. What inspired the New Orleans Swiftie to go down this path? Her own past experience inspired her to create a weekend brimming with events lined up one after the other for Swifties to partake in and be a part of something bigger, something she previously missed out on. “I live in New Orleans. I could very easily just not have spent the money, stayed at my house, and driven back and forth to the [Caesars] Superdome,” she explained. “But it was like, no, I want to have an experience. I want to actually be immersed in this. I want to enjoy every moment of it, for the whole three days that she’s here. How can I do that? I selfishly plan the events that I would want to go to.” Illustrating the impact of the fans’ shared interest in the “Anti-Hero” songstress, Fox also discussed how it had helped her connect with people around the world. “Before this, I literally only knew one other Swiftie in New Orleans, and now I have probably 40 really, really dear friends that live here, and I have thousands all over the world,” she added. Her full-on 191 hotel rooms purchase picked up with only 20 rooms, to begin with at the Hyatt Regency, a venue next to the stadium. Despite the ideal location, that station for the Holiday House weekend was not meant to be. Even though her plan flourished at the initial place, the hotel ultimately turned down her pleas to give her more rooms. Fox finally landed in the Holiday Inn, where she “fought really, really, really hard for every single room and every single person.” She also underscored, “Just so it’s entirely clear, I’ve done this all at cost.” Currently, she’s only charged the convention attendees a $25 deposit, which she will refund after the event closer. Activities planned for the Taylor Swift convention Fox promises that everything at the Holiday House convention is “either Taylor-themed or New Orleans-themed.
” The events will run through the weekend, from October 24 to October 28. The gathering will offer Swifties numerous opportunities to interact through activities such as bracelet-making games, scavenger hunts and more. The report focussing on Rebecca Fox’s Taylor Swift-themed convention came out around the same time as Fox Business sounded the alarm about Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s warning about New Orleans hotel scams. Sharing a video statement to X, formerly Twitter, she said, “Taking advantage of Louisiana residents & tourists visiting our state is wrong…State consumer protection law prohibits unfair and deceptive practices.” “We encourage anyone with a legitimate complaint against a hotel to file a consumer dispute with our office. I hope everyone has a great time at the concert,” she continued. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry also ordered state departments to relocate homeless people before the Eras Tour stop. Gracie Abrams will be joining Taylor Swift at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, from October 25 to 27. [ad_2] Source link

Hey divas! By popular demand (one person expressed an interest) I've got my review of Charli XCX's BRAT here, all in one post. I talked about a couple of the songs already but I've got something to say about all 15 of the original tracks, the three more songs, and the 4 remixes released (so far). I went into this album not exactly being a Charli listener…I had listened to True Romance years ago, and a handful of songs throughout the rest of her discography, but I'm not too familiar with her general musical stylings. I'm basically saying I won't know all the references and won't be the most qualified to talk about the album, just generally. I'm spitballing my thoughts here, and I hope they're if nothing else, entertaining and maybe insightful to another perspective. Let's go!
Track 1 - 360 I remember not being the biggest fan of this song when it first came out. I initially thought it was quite a weak follow-up to Von dutch actually, and I have to say I've done a complete half of this song title (get it? 180?) - 360 is undeniably catchy, with it's looping beat, which when I originally reviewed this album, said "The simple looping beat makes it easier to focus on the lyrics, which outside of the chorus, are a bit whatever." I will say that I wasn't 100% honing in on lyrical analysis when listening to the album in full for the first time, but the lyrics, which are generally simple but accompany the song very well, are not "whatever." In the chorus I head the "So Julia" line as "Social Media," but said in a very strange way, so when I heard and saw people refer to things as "So Julia," I managed to put together that it was in reference to Julia Fox, I still wondered why people were saying So Julia to begin with. This is a lesson in engaging with the lyrics of what you're listening to, basically.
Track 1.1 - The 360 remix with robyn and yung lean I'll start with the positives - I think it's incredible that Charli XCX got Robyn on her remix, that's super cool. Yung Lean I'm a bit less enthused about, if I'm being completely honest, but I've not got enough reason why outside of "The vibes are off." When I first listened to this remix, or rather when I first tried to listen to this remix, I was walking to the bank for work and I said Out Loud "Wow this is terrible" and turned the song off, I think basically as soon as Yung Lean came on. That's not fair. I definitely don't like this version as much as the original, but I do appreciate it as an alternate way to utilise this beat. I enjoy the talk-singing approach, especially from Charli, compared to the original 360 where the approach is more…sing-singing, I guess. Much like the original 360, the lyrics are simple yet effective, expanding on the "It girl" the original establishes, but now with a new setting and added characters, per se. It's taken me a bit of thought for me to understand why exactly I don't like this version as much as the original, and I think it's the chorus - the 360 chorus is just catchier, and doesn't overstay it's welcome the way the 360 remix chorus does, in my opinion.
Track 2 - Club classics I imagine most reading this review already know this, but just in case I'll say it - BRAT had 4 singles released prior to the album; 360, Von dutch, and Club classics / B2b together. Prior to BRAT, I only listened to 2 out of the 4; 360 and Von dutch, so when I listened to this album in full, Club classics (and B2b when we get to it) were blind listens when maybe they probably shouldn't have been. I just don't think I was too bothered when they were released. Tumblr mutuals and anybody else who's visited weirdgirlbymommylonglegs dot tumblr dot com in the past few weeks will know that I've actually already shared by thoughts on this song, the inital ones anyway, in a tag game about what's on my Spotify Repeat (or what was on it at the time). I initially described Club classics as a "RPDR talent show song in the beginning," which I'd don't exactly disagree with but I do't quite stand by anymore. Charli was so real when she said "Play the track fast not slow" - a trend you'll notice is that I tend to like faster and louder songs more than the slower ones, so I intantly enjoyed this song more than 360. Not much to be said on the lyrics again, although I will say the "I wanna dance with SOPHIE" line was the only knowledge I had prior to listening to this song, and I like that. I like that verse as a whole, definitely my favourite part of the song was when Charli was listing off who she wants to dance to (and with). I had to listen to this a few times to really appreciate it, but Club classics has grown to be one of my favourites, with it's warm vocals and euphoric come-up contrasting with the techno-inspired beats to create a multi-dimensional…Club classic, you could say.
Track 3 - Sympathy is a knife I originally described this song, or the intro of it at least, as "reminding me of How I'm Feeling Now and even albums before." A very bold claim, considering the only song I know from how i'm feeling now is i finally understand, and I didn't listen to these "even albus before" bar True Romance. I think I was tryig to find a way to say that "This song reminds me of i finally understand," which after giving that a relisten, I guess I can see where I'm coming from, but I don't agree with it anymore. We get some real and relatable feelings in this song - relationship insecurities and comparison will always be a topic to write about, and it's always going to be a topic I resonate with. And I resonated! Lines like " Don't know if it's real or if I'm spiralling" and "I'm embarrassed to have it, but need the sympathy" make me feel seen as somebody who's insecure in a relationship where I maybe perhaps don't need to. I'd say this is probably the strongest song lyrically.
Track 4 - I might say something stupid I've noticed that a lot of albums will have their first slower or sadder song come in at Track 4. BRAT being an example of this, but it's something I've observed for years. It's a bit of an interlude, "The DJ in the pisser trying to get the negativity out before continuing their set," I said when I first listened to this song. A glimpse of the girl, minus the it-factor. Being invited but never really included. The best lines of this song to me are "I don't feel like nothing special / I snag my tights out on the lawn chair" after the verse about sipping wine and re-entering parties - now I could be reading into the words too much, or maybe I'm what the zoomers call "terminally online," but having the first verse full of easily romanticisable imagery, followed by the second verse opening with something so mundane (and therefore less romanticisable) is a clever reality check for the listener, that these feelings that Charli is having are ultimately just feelings, and not some grand painting that needs to be fawned over. Or that's how I interpreted the lines at least.
Track 5 - Talk talk I really liked this song on the first listen…it reminded me of the house and trance music I grew up listening to because of my mum. I really enjoyed the storytelling of the lyrics, and I think they work well with the beat. Apparently this about Charli XCX meeting her partner in real life for the first time, the aforementioned and elusive "George," drummer of The 1975. I didn't go into this album planning to do extensive research, but I did a quick search on George Daniel and stumbled upon the fact that Talk talk is about their relationship, right down to the following to the bathroom. I on the other hand, listened to these lyrics about not meeting in person (yet) and keeping the interactions a secret, and immediately thought of the "secret gay" trope. You know the one. And for that reason, combined with the bouncy club beat and minimal bass line, this song reminds me of Polo, Glasgow's biggest and most homophobic gay club - I wouldn't be surprised if I heard this song there.
Track 6 - Von dutch We've had a few songs about feelings and vulnerability, this is a mid-album check-in to remind the listener that despite everything, Charli XCX Is That Girl. I guess. While I do like this much more than 360 (on the virtue that it's a bit faster), the two songs thematically and sonically are very similar - looping beat with lyrics talking about how people want to be Charli XCX. Except this time the beat is a bit faster and has a couple more layers. I sound pressed and bitter but this is one of my favourites of the album. Maybe I'm out of the loop of deeping it a bit too much but I think to have the line "Do the dance, without it you'd be nameless" in the song that you go on to remix and feature Tiktokker Addison Rae, is peak shade. And super funny as a result. Speaking of Tiktokker Addison Rae…
Track 6.1 - The Von dutch remix with addison rae and a.g. cook This remix goes crazy. There was a period in May where this was all I was listening to. Then it progressed to this song, Femininominon, SOS by Jordin Sparks, and Karma by Jojo Siwa. I dyed my hair purple and went on holiday in May and became just The Worst Version Of Myself. Anyway this remix is, in my opinion, a marked improvement on the original (still very good) Von dutch, with the tempo increased, peaks and valleys included in the beats (as opposed to the loop of the original), and even a breakdown that terrorised us all on Tiktok. Or in my case, Instagram Reels. Addison Rae's vocals complement Charli XCX's in a oppositional way (UK vs America, cool vs warm) and I think it fits with the overall idea of the song, this public figure vs fan/hater idea, which you don't really get until the closing ad-lib, which if I'm being super honest, was a bit cringe. I don't know who's idea that was. That being said, I don't know how well the song would've worked without it, or what the alternative solution would've been or what. I don't even think objectively the ad-lib was even that bad, just a bit cringe in a way that made my eyes roll upon first listen. Besides that though, phenomenal remix, tough act to follow.
Track 6.2 - The Von dutch remix skream and benga This iteration of Von dutch starts a bit slower, but with more bass and a more established come-up, teasing a drum and bass or dubstep style beat drop. I remember being disappointed that the angle they chose what dubstep instead of dnb, but that comes down to personal preference. The beat drops themselves are nothing to write home about, but they do fit and work with the sounds established in the original Von dutch. Definitely the weaker of the two remixes, but still an enjoyable listen all the same.
Track 7 - Everything is romantic I remember feeling apprehensive listening to the intro of this for the first time, while seeing that this was one of the longest songs on the album so far. I was a bit worried I'd feel a bit bored with this song; worries that would dissipate when Charli starts singing. The talk-singing returns, and the bluntness of it contrasts with the intricate and flowery melody of the intro. The blunt talk-singing in the intro also foreshadows the harsher tone of the song, or the beats of it at least, as after this intro we get treated to some of the hardest beats of the whole album, working in tandem with the blunt vocals. The singing included in the song is minimal, but like the ornate intro, it complements the harsh beats of the song. I think lyrically this is also one of the stronger songs so far, and thinking about Charli singing (talking) about these mundane ideas such as "Bad tattoos on leather-tan skin" and "Lemons on the trees and on the ground," among other statements, makes me think of what I said back in Track 4, I might say something stupid, about how less romanticisable imagery is used to follow up a verse of romantic descriptions. More specifically that I was definitely reading into things too much. Everything really is romantic, huh? The final few seconds, with Charli singing "Everything is" with the beats fading in and out of listenable volume, sums up the song perfectly, to the point where you think that maybe the beat will come back for the next song. Spoiler alert! There's a new beat for Track 8, and it's certainly something!
Track 8 - Rewind You know that tweet that says “When I was recording my album “BRAT” back in 2023/2024, my manager told me I've made a skipless masterpiece, but I remembered I'm an independent powerful woman and I kinda rebelled and added a skip on it.” - Charli xcx on her song “Rewind”? …Yeah. The first thing I noted about this song is that the beat reminded me of the song Faded by Boy Sim and Slayyyter. It was glaring, almost. Not that I'm accusing Charli XCX of stealing or anything, and somebody who listens to more music can deny this claim and say the two songs sound nothing alike, but that's the main thing I got from this song. Again, insecurity's always a good subject to write a song about, and I think it's very interesting that Charli delves into these feelings both as a person but as a popstar. The most interesting part of this song to me however, is the wee breakdown that occurs about two thirds of the way through. Despite this however, I can only really describe the song as "fine." Like it sounds familiar, but in a bad way. I just think as lyrically compelling as it is, sonically it's a bit lacklustre.
Track 9 - So I What can I say about this song that hasn't already been said…the lyrics are powerful, the SOPHIE discussion is beautiful, et cetera et cetera. Here's something new - this is my least favourite song on the album. It's just not for me. I found myself wanting more listening to this song, and the "more" I got at the end of this song was distortion in a way that sounded like Charli was experimenting with Garageband. When I first heard this song I actually said "I suppose a more lowkey song could be made for the sake of getting the listener to pay attention to the lyrics, but frankly when the lyrics don't have anything interesting to say then what's the point?" Which looking back, I find to be super crass and a self-read more than anything else. The lyrics are raw and the most vulnerable on the album so far, and they really do communicate the loss of a friend and a mentor. The song itself just isn't my speed, and I probably wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it in my spare time the way I would with a lot of these other songs.
Track 10 - Girl, so confusing Continuing the theme of unhinged commentaries from my first playthrough of the album, I originally said "This was the song Charli XCX pitched for the Barbie movie, but they rejected it and told her to go back to making songs about cars." I was just joking around obviously, but I hope somebody can at least see where I was coming from. I'd say this is probably my favourite song of the album; it captures my imagination the way the rest of the songs so far haven't really. I also originally said the vocals in the chorus remind me of the Indie Sleaze era, which I'm listening to the chorus and I fully do not understand where I was coming from. Anyway this is a great tempo change, with a compelling narrative that, since I don't really keep up with Charli XCX, didn't initially get that it alluded to Lorde. Not until I saw one of those "If your circle isn't discussing" posts that said "If Girl, so confusing is about Lorde or MARINA." I fully believed that this was just a general "We're girls and we get pitted together so I can't help but feel like we're naturally in competition" song. I saw this line of thinking when I saw Anthony Fantano (who's job I'm planning on stealing) review the remix of this song, which segways to the next song…
Track 10.1 - The girl, so confusing version with lorde When I was scrolling Instagram Reels I saw that Mr Needledrop himself was going to review this song, and I Got Scared. Luckily he didn't say anything too horrible (I've no personal beef with him but I do get flashbacks to the long comment left on his review of Fiona Apple's Fetch The Bolt Cutters. You know the one) and in fact he says that it's impressive (and cute and wholesome, which are not exactly the words I would use but I understand the vision) if this song stems from genuine feelings and events, or if it's Charli XCX and Lorde playing into and rebelling against the industry standard of women competing with one another. I'll be so honest, I nearly cried when I first listened to this song - not because I'm huge into Charli XCX or Lorde, but to hear someone put these sorts of insecurities and misunderstandings to bed. I dunno, maybe I've been too mentally ill to communicate with people in the past and I'm seeking an opportunity to "work it out on the remix," as it were. Lorde's verse of course is poignant and opens a window into her feelings of being Charli's friend, even if they are played up, and it adds a new layer to the song, another side to the coin. My final note is that this is called a "version" instead of a "remix," since it's not a remix, it's the same song with a feature. It's literally not deep at all but the 360 "remix" with robyn and yung lean is similarly, Not A Remix. Same beat, but with added features. I needed to get this out in the open because it's been bothering me since I wrote my 360 reviews. Anyway I love you Girl, so confusing. Both versions.
Track 11 - Apple This song unfortunately has the difficult task of following up Girl, so confusing. And that's ultimately what this song feels like - like if the relationship described in Girl, so confusing hadn't been resolved, it would start to resemble the relationship described in Apple. The premise of the song on it's own is very interesting, but I feel like it maybe could've benefitted from being placed Literally Anywhere Else in the album. I'm being negative but I do honestly quite like this song - it reminds me of video game music, but in a Style Boutique/Style Savvy way. I think Charli XCX should go into making video game music. I think that's what the world needs.
Track 12 - B2b I'd say B2b has the best intro of the whole album. Listening to it got me excited to listen to the song, even though I know in my head I don't actually like this song that much. I don't know, a lot of this song sounds distinctly…not Charli XCX? Not in a way that sounds unrecognisable, but in a way that sounds like any female feature on a house track could've been singing. Like I can hear this song and several others like it on Love Island. Besides that all I can think about when I hear this song is the video of the girl dancing to it. You know the one.
Track 13 - Mean girls I originally described this song as "a self-read or a fandom callout. Maybe both." You know what I mean? If I included every line that reinforces either of these ideas then I'd just be typing out both verses in full. I think the main ones I'd use in an essay would be "Worships Lana Del Rey in her AirPods" from the first verse, and "She's kinda fucked up but she's still in Vogue" from the second. While I'm talking about the lyrics, I think in a similar way to the Addison Rae Von dutch ad-lib, a lot of these lines are personally a bit cringe. Like the "Mean girls" Charli describes, the "coquettish" ones that like to be called anorexic…are just not that you know? Like we're current Tumblr users, we know what these girls are like, and they're nowhere near as charismatic as Charli makes them out to be. They just stew and call themselves "femcels" and reblog gifs of American Beauty. They're barely mean. It just feels a bit out of touch. To me at least. On a more positive note I think this song is one of the most interesting sounding ones on the album, with the shift from hard electronic beats to a piano solo halfway through. I will be honest, I thought the beat from the first chorus would come back on top of the piano, after the solo, and I'll be honest, I was disappointed when it didn't come back until near the end of the song. Besides that though, one of the catchiest songs on the album.
Track 14 - I think about it all the time I predicted this song would be similar to "I might say something stupid" in that it would be one of the more lowkey ones. And I was right, but I like it a lot more that the aforementioned Track 4. I just think it's really interesting conceptually; singing so explicitly about motherhood and family, and whether it's right path at the right time. The beats and melody of this song is probably the most…liquid, I guess would be the right word, of the whole album, and it's an interesting departure from the more solid sounding beats used in most (if not all) of the album. I think on a more meta level, the electronic interferences and the autotuned vocals in the song represent how no matter what Charli does, or how her thought process changes on family (or anything really), her music, and by extension her career will impact and influence these decisions. I'm not sure how obvious that is, or if it's even intentional, but hearing it represented is cool to me.
Track 15 - 365 Similarly to Club classics, I've already shared my initial thoughts on this song, and they have not changed really. 365's got a double meaning - obviously 365 being the number of days in a year, since Miss XCX is a party girl all year round, but as this is essentially a remix or rework of 360, changing the name to 365 implies that this song is going to be a bit different to 360. And Different It Is. The beat drops and it goes so crazy, I'm obsessed. In a similar vein, 360 is the number of degrees in a circle, the shape where the beginning is the end, and on the original BRAT album, this is the final track. The beginning is the end, but since this song is called 365, it implies the circle keeps going, and in 365, the song continues after the 360 beat ends. It's a very clever closing track.
Track 16 - Hello goodbye But wait! There's more! Three days after the original album, Charli XCX brings out the same album, and there's three more songs, so it's not! These three songs are a treat to listen to as a collective, and I think they're all great, but I will say just now that Hello goodbye is my least favourite, but I still think it's a fantastic club track. I honestly feel like this song could've been a B-side for Talk talk, or released alongside it ala Club classics / B2b. Sonically it gives me the same euphoric house and trance vibes that Talk talk does, but lyrically this feels like an elaboration of Talk talk, where Charli XCX goes a bit deeper into her nerves about meeting George for the first time. I reckon it's specifically about her following him to the bathroom, but being too nervous to say anything to him. I've not done the research so I could be talking out of my ass with this, but that's my speculation. Probably the least memorable of the three more songs, but I still enjoy this song more than a considerable chunk of the main album.
Track 17 - Guess In my personal tumblr queue I have this song scheduled to be reblogged at one point in the near future, and in the tags of that post I say that this is my favourite of the three more songs - that's only partially true, in that it's a tie between Guess and Spring breakers, and it changes depending on how I'm feeling. And currently, I'm feeling Spring breakers. Guess is a super fun and raunchy song about underwear. Not the deepest song lyrically but it doesn't need to be. I'd consider the beat to be the most industrial or techno sounding of the whole album; a cold contrast to the warm sounding Hello goodbye. I want to talk about the last line of this song, "You wanna guess if I'm serious about this song." Is Charli XCX being serious about this song, Guess? Absolutely. She would not have alluded to this song being a joke otherwise. A big part of humour in this sort of joke song (unfortunately the only ones that come to mind atm are I Fucked Yr Mom by Sorry Mom and that "I pledge allegiance to girl penis" song by GRLWOOD) is how earnest it is - Charli throwing that last line in to suggest that the song is ironic takes away the comedy of the song because it's now self aware. I dunno, I think there's a better way to describe how I feel about how genuine the song is. That last line is another minor cringe from me, similar to the Von dutch remix ad-lib or a lot of the lyrics of Mean girls, and it's ultimately inoffensive.
Track 18 - Spring breakers Like the movie I haven't seen (yet, but one day). This feels like an appropriate closer both as a final bonus track, but as a final album track. Spring breakers sonically feels a bit like a meeting point between Hello goodbye and Guess, although it definitely shifts more towards Guess with it's harsher sounding noisework. The recurring "Every time we're on" is the Hello goodbye representation. This meeting point is why I feel Spring breakers works as an effective final track out of the three, as it doesn't introduce anything new to the album. I feel Spring breakers works as a closer for the whole album, on the other hand, because the song is ultimately about making an impact. I mean, Charli's singing about setting fire to red carpets and getting arrested - I mean, way to establish yourself. The robotic autotune verse is a fun addition to this song, representing how Charli XCX can "switch on" this nice girl persona for the stage and award shows. I how this album gets awards. I'll be ragin if it doesn't haha. The Vroom Vroom and Boom Clap easter eggs are cute; there might be more that seasoned Charli XCX fans will pick up on. I wasn't sure where else to talk about it so I'll just do it here (because it's tangentially related), but I went back and listened to Charli XCX's Boiler Room set this past weekend (because I didn't make time to listen to it when it first dropped) and it was a fun wee game almost, hearing what songs from BRAT appeared and how they sounded in the set compared to the album. In hindsight I definitely should've listened to the Boiler Room set prior to the album, so that I could hear these Boiler Room tunes in the album for the first time. No matter now.
And that's the album! Apologies for such a long post, I wanted to get my thoughts out. Maybe I'll make this a regular thing? I dunno, are there any albums you want to hear my thoughts on? I want to review GUTS (spilled) since I've not listened to the bonus tracks yet, and I've got other smaller albums that I'd love to share my thoughts on, but let me know! Without any further stalling, here's my final ranking of the songs!

if i listen to brat and it's shit i'm gonna be so mad
#while i reviewed the remixes individually i've grouped them in with the main songs bc i don't think each remix's ranking would place too#wildly different to their original counterparts. if that makes any sense#charli xcx#brat#charli xcx brat#album review#K-Sides#<- trying out a new tag. a music discussion/album review tag if you will. if i ever do another long post like this (which i do plan on#but we'll see how this post is received ig)

So Caro how do you like "butter"?? 😳🤔
i’ll be cranking out my media major, let's review butter stylistically. ✍️ in four aspects — sonically, visually, lyrically, and concept-wise.
sonically: 9/10. here’s an interesting comparison i found, this can be calculated by looking at the stats of a musical piece. if you want to do harmonic mixing with another bts song, seesaw (!) is the most similar to it. with the exception that it’s written in f minor but other than that, the bpm/energy/danceability is uncanny. mindboggling. in other words, two bts songs can have the same anatomy and be entirely different worlds. that’s seriously hard to pull off. talking genre, recalling that namjoon said it's a "super retro disco pop new age acoustic ballad", that description is right on 😂it gets very daft punk after 1:38, groovy, the production is quite proper. especially in the second half, it’s a firework and all transitions VERY well. what i liked less, the voices are quite meddled with and as last time, the pitch gets higher and higher so the baritones need more pressure on the voice to be heard (i salute taehyung, my mezzo would be breaking apart). it’s a miracle that rapline can handle these songs. they put a heavier bassline under yoongi’s and rm’s bars, and separated hoseok toward the end since his tone is higher so, i hear you, someone knows what they’re doing. as for the tenors, looking forward to the live rendition of the mixed register bits and the vocal runs. bts are stable like that and jk’s timbre carries the song effortlessly (as is everyone’s great english pronunciation, these guys work so hard) so they wouldn't need autotune, figure it's been added for artistic effect, the retro vibes. a bonus on the other hand, jin getting his lines, hell yes, the spotlight for him. and the arrangement of their parts in general is quite ingeniously done, that looks like the workings of namjoon’s giant brain.
visually: 9/10. the dancebreak being the highlight — this is the sexiest thing i've ever seen — we get to see some really fancy moves from everybody and the hairstyles are quite a feast. jimin and jk have been much-talked-about so i'll emphasize the extravagance of hobi's 2013 MAMA g-dragonesque neon yellow here. he’s the smooth like butter guy they’re talking about indeed, butter hair, butter attitude, butter on his plat! 😂it’s seriously good thinking to have one member embody the concept with a color so, pretty clever. making him stand out as the ending fairy and then blending in the butter logo is equally smart. they wanted to catch our eye, they achieved it. the couture: yep, fashion youtube will have a good time going through all the outfits. from tae's chanel earrings, jin’s skirt, to white suits to jackets over the shoulder. very stylish. someone put a lot of thought into it, and i'm a sucker for some gnc undertones so very cool stuff. the only (very trivial) minus i noticed, a lot of the tailoring does not exactl fit the boys’ bodies to a t, see jungkook’s or jin’s sleeves, though you can’t expect bts to have a tailor come in and fix so many outfits with so many comebacks at once. the dance, it's a compilation of many classic bts moves. i feel like it could be tiny bit more distinguished with a whopping new complex signature formation that bts is famous for in creating, then again the full dance practice isn't out and the head nodding part is quite a visual anchor. also: i noticed they put yoongi in front row a lot. someone’s shoulder is finally better again, we can prepare for some good stuff.
lyrically: 4/10. the song fulfills its function, it creates the mood, but i’m hard to please in that regard as mentioned before. why: time and again i realize that yoongi, rm, and pdogg spoil us with comforting or on-fire lyrics that hit home and are on brand. same idea as in dynamite here, we're hit with a lotta english catchphrases that we usually wouldn't hear from bangtan. it's party mode, it's the summer hit kinda writing, so yeah it does what it’s supposed to do anyway and anybody can sing along. it’s catchy and solid for sure. the 'smooth criminal/superstar/heartbreaker' idea is carried through as a red string so thematically, it's coherent at least. a lot of lines are downright hilarious with random analogies and i don't know if the writers are serious or not. they could go all the way to make it clearer that humor and braggadocio is the concept here, exaggerate it even more. you can’t always tell if it’s a parody of a ‘yeah i’m the man you all fall for me’ sentiment or if it’s 100% business. in some parts of the song it works, in others it makes less sense. where i’ve seen bts execute this well with their own writing is converse high, that’s the bar. it’s also a personal lesson for me since i write crack often, butter tells you where to put the punchlines and where to keep it neutral. a lot of it is all over the place. on the other hand, it fits right on the beat. and perfectly executed pop so i'm a bit torn. i like the ‘got that heat’ part they gave jimin. 'side step right left to my beat' is a good chorus entry as well. making light of it, every lyric works as a witty gif or tweet tagline and we'll be circulating these phrases to eternity. every line works as a good comeback in any situation of life. yoongi's verse legit made me giggle. TLDR: the lyrics are partially confusing but they blend with the music well.
conceptually: 8/10. hit the bell for that black and white intro, that was a good idea, same with the latest teaser. and: range, darling. only in a bts video could a cotton candy jimin go from a mugshot to being the president to a basket ball court hero to going full saturday night fever to flexing his legs in less than three minutes. jokes aside: it all fits in the universe of boy with luv and dynamite so points for consistency. bts's directors have outlined a new style for sure. the worldbuilding could go even deeper, but lumpens did a good job giving us many different eye candy serves and an innovative theme that hasn’t been tackled before, k-pop and pancakes why not! there are less actual film sets (and the difference shows, e.g. in Fire or Daechwita it really gave it some oomph), but it's not really needed. butter has no requirement for an agust d-ish plotline with historical buildings and the members' looks are in the center of attention. then again, i like those details of hoseok sitting in a retro apartment at the end — cozy, i love — with a radio. once again, they could exaggerate the vintage even more, it wouldn’t take away from the idea and visuals. i wish they would’ve expanded even more on the melting butter aesthetic shots as well, although it’s neatly tied into the song so it makes sense. the lyrics really have been blended with the choreograpy theme (the side step as a central move) so i’m thinking the art direction and choreographer had quite an in-depth discussion how to create a bigger picture. as for my weakness: cuteness melts me like butter, extra points for jungkook and yoongi being adorable in their seats.

The Best Medicine
14.08.2022 CoolHead Brew, Helsinki
Sick leave is no ordinary vacation do-over, when it's a vacation do-over WITH MORE SENPAIIIIIIII than the original. (Coincidence. I bought these tickets ages ago.)
There was some uncertainty over today's schedule; the ticket said that the gate opens at 5 but according to the venue it was actually at 6, so since I got there just before 3, I was definitely there a whole hour too early. I got a drink from the bar and spent my time reading a book and looking around a bit (it's a brewery inside a greenhouse so there are windows to peep inside from).
A little after 4, a couple of groupies showed up and invited me to their table (the same people who waved me over in Tampere). Next, band members started appearing. This meant I hadn't somehow missed the sound check (and I danced to it but it's not like anybody cares) :DD
When they let us in I ran so hard to get to the centre front I almost knocked the railing over lol
The place was kind of interesting, they had set up like a full size stage in the yard but the yard itself was pretty small. Much smaller than at Allas. It's nice for the performers so they're not just watching a massive sea of heads, I suppose. It was a hot day but the sun set behind the stage so we were in the shade and caught some breeze too. Being right in front of the subwoofers made this a bit more... intense an experience than I'm used to ;)
I got hit by the line again. Finger guns were exchanged (again).
Somebody ACTUALLY bought one of the noisemaker horns. (It was the other weird merch besides the 🔍)
(pictures can only capture a fraction of their energy, ok)
-----
I think I found (a) Number 1 Finnish fan (I'm sure there's more than 1). Before the show she talked her way into the back room to get everyone in the band to draw a flower and sign their name on a piece of paper.[1] If I understood correctly, she's getting them tattooed. She also carried a journal/scrapbook with pictures and ticket stubs and so forth. I mean that isn't so different from what I'm writing digitally here. Heini received a portrait from her, so I'm also not the only one giving them fan art, although hers was more lighthearted than my sort of thing.
Number 1 Finnish fan also drew a tattoo design for one of the aforementioned groupies (yeah groupies are a tight-knit, well, group); it's got the notation for the rhythm of a specific song. Now THAT is subtle.
If I were to get a fan tattoo it would probably be of some lyric, because words are my specialty and (if chosen wisely,) the text can still be meaningful even if you later move on from the fandom.[2][3]
-----
I've been eyeing the silver cape ever since I first saw it, and keep talking myself out of buying it but it doesn't make me stop wanting it. I decided that I'll buy it if I got to chat with Senpai. I don't think it really counted last time but today fulfilled that criteria. (It's actually a slightly-yellowish silver. Pearl, I guess?)
"I have nothing for you today." (I gave merch guy Pate a note with some niceties and a couple of merch ideas, though. Nothing sentimental. I didn't want him to feel like just being a messenger all the time.)
"Well, I haven't replied to [the other] yet." (Next Christmas?)
I also told Jepa that I would really like the remainder of the band to sign my banner but I wasn't sure how I could go about that because it's taped to my wall and I can't just bring it everywhere and hope I have the opportunity to get a hold of them. She suggested I could get in touch with them on Instagram and make arrangements.[1] Earlier she (I think it was her) came out from the back room with a sheet of normal people paper with everybody's autographs on it, dated and all, so I guess that's a thing. (I've had ticket stubs signed but most tickets are digital these days.)
-----
Oh, before I forget: same songs as the last.
And superfan couple wasn't there?? Surely they would have hung back as I did if they were there.
__________
[1] But I mean, the band is very approachable. It's just the potentially Very Serious security staff you gotta get past.
[2] I drew an (abstract) tattoo design for myself some 16 years ago and I'm committed to it—it's on a few other personal items—but I don't think I'll ever afford the luxury of getting it done. I wish henna paste was easier to find here, as I drew it on with henna for some special occasions back in the day (it's the correct color too).
[3] It seems like bangles with mottos/affirmations engraved on them are kind of A Thing with the middle-aged crowd? I'm not old enough to be in that demographic yet but it's an alternative to getting inked.

hypmic headcanons
since nobody on my instagram appreciates me, i’m going to put them here, and it’ll be like a master post i can add onto that way anyway (which is convenient for me, because i keep adding on… yeah, it’s bad lmao. my notes document can only take so much) all of it will be under the line so you guys don’t just have a big ass post clogging your feed! to whoever my 4 followers are
starting with fling posse…
---
Ramuda Amemura
He’s trans.
He has a superiority complex to hide his inferiority complex.
He also likely has a little bot of a god complex… Just a tiny bit… Not to the point it’d endanger his life, but to the point he can never admit he’s wrong (I suppose this can also count as the superiority complex).
He also has a little bit of a schoolboy crush on Dice… that has lasted far longer than he’d ever like to admit – not that he’d ever admit it in the first place – and he gets jealous over Dice.
He started his whole thing with girls, whatever it is, as a power trip, which also explains why he likes to cause so much chaos.
Since he used to smoke, he started candy as a way to stop smoking and it slowly replaced his smoking habit (as I have yet to see him smoke otherwise, but keep in mind I’m not far into the manga and mostly I’m going off the ARB story).
---
Gentaro Yumeno
All writers are perfectionists (I’d know as one).
He’s probably very particular about the details and doesn’t like doing things without a plan.
He’s the lyric write for Fling Posse’s raps and does not enjoy making up lyrics on the spot; however he can if he must – This is also why he carries the book everywhere.
I honest to god don’t feel like he’s of this world and whatever his actual form is (irony in his rap name?), it scared Ramuda enough to create Fling Posse, so here they are.
---
now for the dice ones… it’s gonna be long!
---
Dice Arisugawa
He is, unfortunately, very oblivious to romantic approaches – especially from close friends such as his division members, for he’s been with them for so long that he can never imagine them falling in love with him.
He has abandonment issues/a fear of abandonment because his mother left him.
Speaking of his mother, Dice likely knows how to do “noble” things because he was raised by a politician; i.e. how to play piano and stuff like that.
Adding on top of that, I feel like Dice has an accumulation of many different skills from being all over the place – He learned how to do card tricks by watching others, and he probably learned bird calls from spending time with Rio.
He undoubtedly has ADHD (as a person with ADHD myself, you cannot tell me I am wrong)!
He’s well aware that’s he a leech, but he can’t stop himself because the addiction is stronger and he feels terrible about it; it’s why he often begs instead of anything else that would fit his character more.
He’s a very talkative person and often rambles to get his thoughts organized.
He doesn’t like being put into awkward situations or forced into silence because he is used the buzz of a casino and a busy city.
Relating to the ADHD canon, Dice puts his life on line not only for the thrill of it, but to keep his mind off of thoughts, and it’s also why he gambles; so he can focus on one thing.
He is numb to change because he’s a gambler.
He is very good at adapting to a new environment.
He doesn’t like being looked down up and that’s why he started gambling; to prove that he’s worth something.
He uses humor to cope if he can’t get his mind off of things with the thrill of gambling.
---
Extras (Fling Posse all together)
Dice has weird limbs, so clothing fits him weird, and Ramuda started making clothes for them because of that.
Ramuda chased after Dice after he stole his signature parka and the Fling Posse star was embroidered on later by Ramuda after the formation of Fling Posse.
Ramuda likely pulls whatever strings he has access to to make life easier for his division members (not that it stops them from getting into trouble, that is).
Gentaro spends a lot of time away when writing and likely forgets he’s even alive during those periods, so his division members make sure he’s still taking care of himself when he gets like that.
They all piss each other off, but in a platonic love kind of way.
---
moving onto matenrou! my favorite division <3
---
Jakurai Jingui
Oh, my poor man’s so tired. He just needs a long break and a spa day; speaking of this, he likely doesn’t ask for help often – it’s the messiah complex he undoubtedly has.
His hair is too long for him to be taking care of it himself, and it definitely looks in fantastic condition, so he definitely takes good care of it – I just don’t think he takes care of it himself; I think he enlists the help of his division members (as I headcanon that Matenrou is in a poly relationship).
Jakurai’s matureness can sometimes get in the way of other things, such as emotional moments, and he can come off as cold or distant when he doesn’t mean to come off that way.
Unlike the other divisions, Jakurai wanted to really separate from his past, and that’s why he named his division Matenrou instead of reusing something from the past. He also probably doesn’t like talking about the past.
His hair is naturally silver, but the lighter shades that are nearly white underneath was caused by stress.
He gets cold quickly, which is why he always keeps the lab coat on, and it’s also why he wears a turtleneck.
Jakurai does live in the same apartment as Doppo and Hifumi, but he’s always so busy that he often can’t get there, so he ends up sleeping at the hospital; he also has a separate apartment of his own that’s closer to the hospital if he has free time, but he’s not off work/off work but still on call.
---
Doppo Kannonzaka
Man, the first thing I thought when I saw him was that he has a choking kink. Enough said. He also likely has a praise kink.
If he didn’t have social anxiety and wasn’t so busy, he’d also probably be going over to Rio’s camp a lot. I think it’s because he’s so overworked that he doesn’t care about what’s in the food; as long as he gets it.
He’s probably passed out from exhaustion more than once and just got used to it.
Despite all his problems, he definitely wants to be known and he wants his name out there; he wants to be just like the other two and he definitely looks up to them already, but he aspires to be them.
He is so thankful for his divison members and he’s glad that they accepted him.
---
Hifumi Izanami
Hifumi is a classic case of “fake it till you make it”; I really don’t know how he became one of the most popular hosts in Shinjuku, but it’s definitely about the fake confidence and the jacket is a comfort object for him that allows him to have that confidence.
He cooks all the time for his division members and he uses the catches from fish all the time, too. He even brings the lunches to their works for them.
---
Extras
Since Hifumi’s always out so late, the others make sure he has everything he needs for whenever he wakes up and sometimes they wait for him.
They’re all in a poly relationship and I refuse to believe anything else; I mean, have you seen those “my room” dialouge in ARB? Fruity.
They probably all love to cuddle whenever they get the chance because they can’t do it often.
They definitely set up one day of the month for all of them to just be together.
---
buster bros time!
---
Ichiro Yamada
This may just be the Ichiro simp in me, but I think he has a very nice tummy that’d be nice to lay on; like a soft one if that makes any sense to anybody other than me.
He’s a very friendly person and if you’re close friends with him, he’s definitely loyal; he’d be willing to drop anything to help you kind of loyal, like he is to his brothers – all that, except the willing to die part.
I think he gets flustered easily and doesn’t know how to respond to compliments. That’s also probably the Ichiro simp in me.
Although he has to stop his brothers from ripping out each other’s throats all the time, he’s very proud of them and of their achievements, no matter what they are. He’s willing to praise them even for the tiniest things to make up for his absence in their lives.
He probably has a terrible sleeping schedule, but he could probably operate on pretty much anything. Two hours of sleep? That’s not an issue for him; he’s used to it.
He’s likely a cheapskate when it comes to himself, but when it comes to his brothers, he spares no expense if he can.
---
Saburo Yamada
He has a superiority complex. I mean, just look at how he acts with Jiro – that’s enough proof right there.
He got into hacking and all of that computer stuff because it was interesting to him; he’s probably pursuing a career in it, considering just how good he is at it. I feel like he’d make a good white hat hacker that tests your website security, like Alma in Va-11 Hall-A.
Call him a library, because he holds grudges for years.
I think he just likes picking arguments because he think it’s funny and there’s nothing better to do when you’re stuck with your brothers (as somebody with a sibling myself, I can attest to that).
---
Jiro Yamada
Anger issues. Yep, that’s it. That’s the headcanon.
Man probably goes dumpster diving to see what kind of treasures he can find; his room is probably full of that kind of junk.
He probably has greasy hair. It doesn’t matter how much he cleans it, it’s just greasy (as somebody with the same issue, go clean your pillows Jiro).
---
Extras
Ichiro has to hold Jiro back from just punching Saburo all the time.
God, somebody save Ichiro from his siblings; with how much they bicker, he probably has taken so much ibuprofen to stop headaches in his life that he should be considered dead from an overdose.
Despite being assholes to each other, they all help each other out – Saburo helps Jiro with his work, Jiro helps Saburo with whatever he can’t do, and Ichiro takes care of the rest. It’s the only thing keeping their bond together.
---
mad trigger crew, my beloved.
---
Rio Mason Busujima
Rio’s very stoic and that often doesn’t break, so it’s very rare to see a smile on his face. He has different smiles for different things too – there’s the business one; one so he doesn’t look as intimidating, and the actual genuine smile that’s very rare to see, but it happens when somebody appreciates his food.
Rio’s not good at understanding emotions and it takes him awhile to process emotions; he goes quiet in these moments and it can be confusing for those who don’t know him, but once he’s thought everything out, he’s very smart about responding.
He’ll never fully adjust to a life outside of the navy and military.
Opposite to Dice, he finds the buzz of a city to be too distracting for his thoughts and he enjoys his solitude, but he doesn’t mind company at all.
Due to how his unit was broken up, he refuses to abide by H law and keeps his gun on him. Even Rio can be spiteful. However, he mostly uses it for hunting, which is why he’s so far out in the forest.
He definitely has a lot of scars and that’s why he often wears his fatigues; he doesn’t wana come off as off-putting. His cards without the jacket did him so dirty. Of course he’d have scars from fighting in World War 3.
He can come up with strategies on the spot and is a very quick-thinker when it comes to combat.
Despite how ruthless he is when it comes to rap battles and being an ex-navy, he’s actually a very gentle soul.
I feel like he’s asexual, but homoromantic.
---
Samatoki Aohitsugi
He only uses the bad guy persona as a way to be left alone, but he’s actually a very kind person.
Despite being a yakuza, he actually abides to the H law and it’s probably only because of Nemu (however, this is only based off of the anime, so I can’t say for certain, but I haven’t seen anything in the manga disproving otherwise yet).
I just feel like he eats a lot throughout the day. I can’t explain this one, but he has the vibes.
He also knows how to cook quite well himself, and he does it for his division members sometimes.
---
Jyuto Iruma
He’s very cocky because he knows he can get away with things; I mean, he’s the authorties, why wouldn’t he get cocky about what he can do? However, it’s somewhat annoying to Samatoki.
If he wasn’t a gay bastard, Samtoki and Rio probably would’ve been arrested long ago. Thankfully for them, he is a gay bastard.
He likes looking good no matter what; it helps his confidence, so he dresses up to go out anywhere.
His glasses are probably just reading glasses.
He likes spending money on expensive things.
---
Extras
Samatoki and Jyuto are in a relationship. They’re so fruity that I’m sure I don’t have to explain this one.
Samatoki doesn’t approve of Rio dating Dice at all and it’s only because of Jyuto that Dice is still alive.
Rio is pretty much their marriage counselor; he has to constantly deal with them bickering, so of course he is. He’s pretty much the adopted child to save their marriage.

this is an appreciation post for all the cut songs in deh because I feel like they’re not talked about enough
(disclaimer: this definitely isn’t a full list and it’s just the ones I’ve heard lmao)
this’ll be the year: the og opening number! it’s not bad and it sets up a nice hopeful opening. that being said, anybody have a map definitely works more effectively to set up the show. 7.5/10, rachel bay jones CARRIED this number
hiding in your hands: (requiem’s precursor) MALLORY BECHTEL OWNS MY HEART! and this song gives us a really great view of things from zoe’s perspective. 10/10, the song has such a cute vibe which plays off the sorta sad lyrics really well!
infinite island: I’ve only heard a little of this song, but it’s pretty good! I’m really glad they replaced it with waving through a window, though. 7/10, WTAW wouldn’t exist without it!
obvious: such a bop!! my life goal is to make someone think about me when they hear this song. recognizing all the little bits that made it into if I could tell her is so cool! 10/10. also I fucking LOVE taylor trensch
in the bedroom down the hall: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGSGDHHDJHF MY FUCKING HEART if you didn’t cry the first time you heard this song I don’t know what to tell you. 12/10 (two extra points for the fact that it made me cry twice)
a little bit of light: WELL SHIT YALL THOUGHT IN THE BEDROOM DOWN THE HALL WAS SAD?? augh this song does so much to me. hearing cynthia’s perspective on raising connor up until his death is just,,,, ouch my heart. it really does a lot for connor’s characterization as well, just in case anyone in the audience still saw him as a one-dimensional bully. kinda sad they got rid of it, but I also understand why they did. 13/10, I’m still in pain (but like in a good way)
a part of me: ok, nothing is gonna beat you will be found but this song is still really good! I got chills on my first time listening to it. the fact that it shows everyone getting attached to “a tragedy that wasn’t theirs to own” was a super interesting approach! solid 8/10, as much as I love it, YWBF definitely tops this song (also the quote was provided by benj pasek)
going viral: SUBJECTIVELY THE BEST CUT SONG FROM DEH. jared deserved a goddamn song and this is??? such??? a fUCKING BOP???? someone drag will roland down to the studio and make him give us an official recording because holy hell I love this song more than I love myself. 100/10, if it’s not in the movie I’ll fucking riot

GENRE: Fluffy Fluff!
FANDOM: Boku No Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)
TRIGGER WARNINGS: NONE! Today is a fluffy day!
SUMMARY: Kaminari helps out Reader-Chan with their hair for a wash day after they both get off of work! This is a Black!reader insert and trust and believe I’m going to be doing MORE of these types of things as well. I have Kirishima x Black Male reader insert to come soon! I hope you enjoy!
WORD COUNT: 3940
(Headers are mine, but the art inside of them are not! Please don’t steal or repost without credit!)
You and Denki had been together for awhile and everything was everything you thought it’d be and more. He was always so energetic and happy to see you each and every single time you ‘left’ and then came back to him. I swear it was like he was even more in love with you every single time you blinked. And that beautiful smile of his as he looked you over taking in your beautiful auburn skin, almond-y eyes, your wide nose, and your hair. He was oh so infatuated with your hair every single time he saw a style you put your hair into; he had never even seen braids until he got with you. You both had gotten an apartment together- even after going through high school and the UA experience with you, he was still in love with you possibly even more than he was before.
You both had separate closets; your closer mostly full of head scarfs, durags, and the special hair products that you used at like max 1 time a month. Oftentimes you found your boyfriend sifting through everything and trying to name what things were and at this point he was getting pretty good. All of it sounded weird coming from his mouth, but it was the thought that counted. He also looked through all of the products and he had accidentally tried some just to see if his hair would benefit from it.
Needless to say it didn’t.
He also loved looking at your accessories that you’d put in your hair- mostly when they were in braids- all of your brushes and heat protectants and your piks. He LOVED your piks. He would ask you about them all the time and he’d even ask to use them from time to time even though he and you both knew they weren’t for him. You’d gotten him a custom one though- it was yellow with metal rounded tip spokes and the body had his signature lightning bolt with his hero name “Chargebolt” underneath it with pretty letters. You were never too fond of sharing things like that with anyone- even him- and he respected that.
He’d been with you long enough to distinguish between your music as well and at the end of the week he’d always come back home to hear a mix between James Brown, SZA, Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, and others. When you let him sit in on your study sessions and listen to your music he’d always been so surprised with 1) how diverse your music taste was and 2) that there was so many different kinds of music and he’d never heard YOURS prior to getting with you. He absolutely loved it, Drake being one of his favorites though he’d mindlessly mumble some Kendrick lyrics when he heard a familiar beat. Nevertheless, today was no different. He’d gotten home from his patrol to hear SZA playing, the scent of the mix of products in the air bringing a small inkling of pink to his cheeks. He walked in a little more and slicked back his dandelion yellow hair and he walked to the bathroom where he, once again, saw the familiar sight of you hunched over the sink mumbling lyrics while your skilled fingers worked shampoo out of your hair. “This may be the night that my dreams might let me know…” you mumbled under your breath before you jumped feeling Denki’s strong arms wrapping around your waist, his tender lips pressed into the nape of your neck. “BABY!” You feel a surge of happiness run through you before your fingers get caught on a knot and you grumble lowly. “D-Don’t scare me like that,” you whine out softly before you settle on ripping the knot out of your from irritation before you feel his warm hand against yours. “I-I’m sorry,” he said with a soft laugh. “Hey don’t tug at it like that… You’ll hurt your hair,” he said softly before swiftly taking his gloves off and setting them next to the sink, humming softly as he helped you work the knot out of your hair SAFELY. “I’m… Surprised you remember,” you said quietly as he dried his hands off and rested them on your waist, swaying to the music behind you. “Of course I remember! I couldn’t forget something like that…. Uhm.. So can I help with… Conditioning? Please? Pretty please?! I just… I want to learn more so that I can help you! A-And I know you’re gonna braid it! C-Can I watch you do that o-or um… Something? I won’t ask to help because we both know I can’t do that!” He started to laugh softly as he rubbed the back of his neck, scared again that he had talked too much. “S-Sorry..” He mumbled quietly. At this point, you were done with washing your hair so you used your hips to push him back and you threw your head back, the water in your hair flicking all over Denki, who just laughed like usual, before he walked up behind you and took you by the waist again with his head rested on your shoulder not even caring that your hair was dripping on his or his face. He carried that handsome smile as he used one of his slender fingers to trail over your jawline gently with a small laugh. “What’s so funny,” you rose your eyebrow and quirked your lips some as your brown eyes carried a soft golden glow to them. He thought that was the coolest thing ever how your eyes seemed so amazingly dark but could still carry a glow to them, especially one that brought out your features even more. “N-Nothing! You’re just… So damn beautiful,” he said softly as he practically melted looking at your reflection in the mirror. “And all mine… I get to have you and nobody else,” he said softly as he bit his lip and nuzzled into your neck before he caught a whiff of food in the air. His patrol had zapped him (ha! get it?) and he was in the mood for you and food and cuddles. His mouth started to water as he let his hands wash over your hips, duck under your shirt, gently tapping his fingertips against your soft satiny brown skin. “What’s for dinner, love,” he asked quietly as he sniffed your hair and closed his eyes, his heart pounding hard against his rib cage as his flush travelled through his body. He loved how homey anywhere felt with you. Instead of living off of takeout, he was graced with your cooking skills. Instead of sitting around doing nothing, he took a keen interest whenever you did your hair and sometimes when he was gaming you’d lay on top of him and practice different styles in his hair so you could get ideas for your own and honestly he was just fine with that. He had someone like you; and it wasn’t that you were ‘exotic’ looking; as a matter of fact he’d get so pissed off when someone said that about you or your family because it seemed… Out of place to him. Of course, when he laid eyes on you for the first time, he couldn’t think of anything else except how different you looked from anybody he’d ever seen before. How your wider nose brought out your thin dark eyes, how curly your hair was and how it just seemed to define gravity- but in a mere hour and a half would be sleek and braided against your head and stay that way until you took it out. How your white teeth glistened and brightened your nebulous brown eyes with that golden glow that acted as a highlight and how perfectly it fit you. He even noticed how your hips curved a little more, how your shoulders were a little broader, how you always managed to shine and he loved that. Everybody did- but he did more. He always protected you, and you’d let him. After all it was hard moving from one place where everyone seemed to hate you and people that looked just like you to a different place where there was NOBODY that looked like you… No place to get things to care for yourself properly unless you paid a million and half dollars for all of the products that you deemed as necessary. He didn’t mind paying, he didn’t mind protecting you and letting you not be the strong one, he didn’t mind putting people in his place; sometimes he got overzealous with it and you had to explain why certain things were okay and why certain things were. He listened, always, and he seemed to have a grasp on it, however, he forgot sometimes just wanting to protect you and make his home your home as much as he could. He always gifted you with small presents and everything as well, always eager to buy you flowers and call you beautiful and make sure you knew that you weren’t alone even in this new place you called home and the attempt is exactly what you loved about him. All of his questions and asking for certain clarifications. He didn’t make you feel weak when you just couldn’t be strong anymore. He was curious, but he didn’t try to force your boundaries with touching your hair without permission or using your products and wasting them, or complaining about how much you had, or complaining and mocking how you were different from him and people like him, and on the flip side, he didn’t try to take your lingo that you carried over from where you were in America. He didn’t try to copy you because he knew that some things he just shouldn’t say and he just accepted the explanation with a smile and a nod and he made sure he never slipped up again, all while making sure other people didn’t make mistakes either.
“Well… I went to the store today since I had morning shift,” you said quietly as you moved your hair to one side and gently let your fingers glide through his hair. “So I picked up a few things… It’s pretty cold outside so I made chili and cornbread,” you said softly as you look in the mirror at his widened eyes staring at your reflection. “I hope that’s not a… Bad thing?” “No no no no, of course not! It’s a great way to start the weekend… Besides I LOVE your cornbread- it’s like super spongey and stuff and it’s just really good! Thank you,” he said as he nuzzled into your damp neck and you admired him, turning to gently place a kiss on the top of his head. “You’re welcome, my little prince,” you said softly as you grabbed a towel. “You said you wanted to help me with conditioning right? Well come on before my hair gets dry,” you said softly and he followed happily, listening to the chili simmer in the pan, the small ticks of the timer taunting him as he waited for the cornbread to finish. Your guys’s fireplace crackled and added another touch of homeyness to your guys’s den. You sat on the couch and he sat behind you with his legs on either side of you. You giggled softly and handed him the leave in conditioner and tilted your head back. “Okay so, that’s leave in conditioner. It’s different from *shower* conditioner; I don’t have to wash it out. Try and get as close to my scalp as you can,” you say softly as you hear the bottle open. “And don’t use too much at one time! A little goes a long way,” you say softly as a smile broods over your face. He nods with a soft and determined hum and he parted your hair down the middle with his pinkies. You turned on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and giggled softly as he gently pressed his fingertips along the part, slowly but surely spreading the conditioner through your hair. “Jeez, it smells so good,” he said in a soft murmur, grunting softly as he felt your hands on his legs for support. “Your hands are so… Gentle,” you say as more of a soft hum, already almost asleep, your back leaning against his chest. “Well duh,” he hummed back to you quietly as he worked your curly hair through his fingers, taking out any tangle he could gently and quickly, watching how the product weighed your hair down a little bit. “You’re so cute,” you said softly as you tried not to sleep and he noticed so he gently pushed your back and nibbled at your neck. “I finished with the leave in… What’s next?” He whispered softly into your ear causing a flush of your own to blossom and spread over your body as he nibbled your ear. “D-Don’t do things like that,” you whined softly as you gently sifted through your bottles and handed him one of them. “This is to moisturize my hair even more. Focus more on my scalp and the ends of my hair than yknow… The rest of my hair,” you say softly as you close your eyes. Immediately your eyes close and you feel your skin burn as his strong hands go immediately to massaging your scalp. A shudder ripples down your spine and you lean your head back into Kaminari’s hands as you let out soft whines. He blushes a little and clicks his tongue. “Mm? You like that?” He teased you, palming your head as his fingers knead the product into your scalp. “Y-Yeah,” you whine softly as you try harder not to pass out. “J-Just keep going like that,” you whisper under your breath. He let out his soft giggles that sounded just a little squeaky, moving your hair a little so he could kiss the nape of your neck, his plush lips pressed against your soft skin making your eyes flutter a little. “K-Kami,” you whisper softly as you close your eyes and let your body relax completely. He pulled you back into him and gently kissed the side of your neck. “I’m sorry, yuri,” he said softly with a soft smile. “You know I get carried away sometimes,” he said as he gently massaged your shoulders and then you picked up one of your piks and handed it to him after showing him how to hold it. “Here… Hold it from the underside like this… You’ll get a better grip that way,” you say softly as you tilt your head to one side as you felt him gently nibbling and tugging at your skin with his teeth. You let out quiet whimpers and bit your lip before pushing him back a little. “J-Just take the damn pik and do my hair before it dries dummy,” you said as you covered your mouth. He mumbled softly as he started to run his fingers through your hair and pik it out, his eyes glistening as he stretched your curls and let them fluff up and coil again. “You’re so sensitive and it’s so cute,” he said softly as he gasped softly. “Jeez your hair babe… It’s amazing! It’s like… Soft but it still has its like… Texture? Would that be the right word? It’s really cool… It’s different from mine… I honestly love it,” he said softly as he continued to easily pik through your hair. “I don’t know how to braid, but I DO remember how to twist! C-Can I do that? I wa-wanna tie your d-durag today,” he said softly, his voice almost a pleading whine that you found adorable. You reached back and gently tangled your fingers with his hair causing him to whine softly. “Please,” he asked again, almost begging. If he was pleading like this, who were you to say no? “Baby, since it’s the weekend, I will let you… BUT only if you let me teach you again,” you say quietly. You lean back and look up at him and his eyes, as usual, were glittery and beautiful as he held his smile. “Wait REALLY?? Hell yeah!” He pumped his fist and you sat up as you, again, showed him a rat-tailed comb and you flipped it between your fingers. “Watch how I part this, and try to mimic it as best you can, okay?” You whisper quietly as you start to part it from the front of your head. He just watched attentively with pure astonishment as your coils parted and showed your scalp with ease. It was like watching a hot knife cut through butter. “Woah….” He whispered out softly as he watched with his hands on your hips. You laughed quietly and gently pushed the loose hair to one side. Usually you’d be able to move fast, but you were slow just because it felt good when you felt his fingers in your hair. He bit his lip as you twirled the hair skillfully in your fingers, then added a rubber band to the end of your hair to keep the twist in place. “You’re so good at this yuki!” He smiled and gently kissed the side of your neck. “Well I sorta have to be,” you mumble as you hand him the comb. “Now you be sure to be gentle, okay? And… What does yuki mean?”
He took the comb in his hands and gently started to part your hair- admittedly much better than you ever thought he could. They were straight, uniform, clean parts, and that little hum to the music he did when he was focused made it that much better. “Yuki? O-Oh! It means lily in Japanese…. Yknow… Japanese is my native language I just thought it’d be cute to give you a Japanese nickname… I-If you don’t like it I can change it or just say it i-in English,” he said nervously as he tilted your head back and started to twist slowly, making sure that it was tight and secure, but not too tight. “No no no, you’re okay my little prince,” you hum softly as you rub your hands against his legs causing him to chitter and whine softly. “Actually I think it’s quite cute… And it suits you well…” you muse softly to him as he moves on to the next twist, both of you humming to the song, the smell of the chili in the air blanketing the both of you. By the time he got finished with the last twist, dinner was done, the cornbread still in the oven. “Hey…” He said softly as you moved to your closet to grab your durag. “Shhhh I have a surprise for you,” you say quietly as your eyes let off that same golden glow as before. He cocked his head to one side and rose an eyebrow as you emerged with an electric yellow durag in hand, on one side was his signature lightning bolt and on the other was an embroidered icon of him in his signature point-and-shoot pose his glasses carrying a glint to them and by it was his hero name in fancy letters, underneath it was his kanji for his legal name. His eye sparkled even more and his hands quickly became slapped over his mouth. “Yuki,” he whispered softly from behind his hands, his eyes tearing up. You looked it over and then smirked a little as you looked at him. “You like? I figured you would considering how you’re always telling me that I look good in yellow… What better yellow than my husband’s, right?” You crawl back to the bed and in between his legs, gently gifting him with a proper kiss, your hands resting against his face, the durag placed messily atop your head as the strings laid at the sides. He eagerly kissed you back, his body practically trembling as he let a couple of tears fall. “Awww baby,” you say with a soft smile as you gently use your thumbs to swipe his tears away. He gripped your hands and kissed at your palms gently. “That is… Probably one of the most meaningful gifts I have ever seen in my… Entire life… I mean look at it! It looks absolutely AMAZING on you and like… Just… It’s so badass! Like… It’s a little unbelievable actually… It’s ME… I’m a hero now… And I have an amazing little lily at my side to call my own… This is more than I ever could have DREAMED of!” You laugh quietly as he rambles, your eyes gazing lovingly into his as you spread the strings to be completely flat and you gently wrap them around the back of your head and then looked up at him with a soft smile. “This is… More suppose than I could have ever even hoped to have,” he said with his soft vulnerable giggle, gently pressing a kiss into your forehead before taking the strings in his hands, whispering to himself trying to recall how to tie the strings flat. “D-Don’t tell me! I got it… ‘kay.. So I think you…” he trailed off as his breathing deepened and he bit his lip slowly trying to work through the steps. “Okay… So you tied it in the back… So I just need to…” He let one of the strings go and he made the string in his hand flat, guiding it above your ear, wrapping it around your forehead. “And then… Bring it around town,” he whispered softly, causing you to giggle and cover your mouth. You noticed his face flush as he watched the design come to life and he bit his lip to contain his squeals. “So… Then…. Around town,” he said softly as he repeated the same steps on the opposite side. You smiled as he rose himself up a little and you buried your face in his chest with a soft sigh as he gently bound both strings in a bow behind your head before leaning back and giggling with jazz hands. “Ah! It looks so good!” He giggled before gently straightening it out and making sure everything was flat and centered. He did, surprisingly well, taking a picture of you and showing you after setting it as his home screen. “God… I could look at you all day,” he said in a breathy whisper before being tackled into the couch by you, you cuddling him close, burying your face into his neck, his muscular arms wrapping around you and holding you close. “That little ‘around town’ thing was cute, y’know,” you giggled softly as you made him look up at you. His arms rested around your hips as he gave you this beaming grin as the oven alerted the both of you again. “I-It’s how you taught me… It’s the only way I’ll remember it,” he whined quietly as he leaned up and nipped your neck. You giggled softly and pushed him back down on the couch before sliding off of him again. “Wait! I wanna make plates,” he pouted at you and crossed his arms peeking at you from just over the back of the couch. “Aht, lay it back down. I’M taking care of it tonight,” you say quietly as you pop your lips at him and he abides, throwing one of his feet over the back of the couch as he continues to watch the show you put on with a soft smile, occasionally taking peeks at you from the couch with a blush washing over his face. “I could never get tired of this,” he whispered softly to himself.

Hi! Can I request Siren! Bakugo with a Mermaid Reader? Maybe he hears her singing and decides to show her his song? Love your writing btw ^-^
I was actually really excited to start this as soon as I saw it in my box! It’s a really cute and sweet idea, I hope I did it justice!

Siren Bakugo x Mermaid Reader
Bakugo was getting awfully tired of the same routine. His hate for normality only grew during the rise of summer. Warmer waters meant that more of his kind would travel to the usually colder areas he called home. Mating season was coming, and he hated every bit of it.
His parents had gotten on his back when he refused to choose a mate before he left the pod; despite the fact that they themselves went out of their ways to bring him what they thought were suitable partners. It wasn’t his fault they had shit taste in people.
None of the other sirens that approached him were worthy of being called his mate, either. Usually, when a siren wished to court another siren, they would sing a unique hymn in hopes of catching their desired mate’s attention. But all who tried to sing to him failed. None of the songs he heard were even remotely interesting or unique to him, so it wasn’t unusual for him to turn away another wannabe suitor.
He hadn’t approached anybody himself. Happening upon another siren was rare outside of mating season, but no matter how lonely he was drifting through the seas alone months at a time, his feelings never changed. If he had his way, he would remain in solitude till the end of times. If only sirens weren’t so social, then he wouldn’t have to deal with the ache in his chest as he spent another year in silence.
He was spending his day as he usually did, surveying for any passing ships to crash as he sunbathed on an outcrop near the coast. Another sign that mating season was coming was the dwindling number of ships that frequented the area. They knew better than to sail through during this time of year. Only the foolish and inexperienced took that risk.
His gorgeous, streamline orange tail slapped against the rough surface of the outcrop in frustration. He hated lying around all day, preferring to stay active by hunting and patrolling his territory. But he’d be damned if he didn’t sink the one ship that's been giving him hell for the past few weeks. A small fishing vessel taking advantage of the warmer, nutrient rich upwellings of the season to fish the more rare and expensive fish that migrated in. But in doing so, have been clogging the native reef, and his home, with fishing lines and other actions that destroy the reef. He picked this place for a reason damn it.
He was about to dive back under the waves and continue his search when a soft, gentle tune caught his attention. It was relatively close, carried along and amplified by the ocean air that swept through the shore. Intrigued, Bakugo slipped back into the sea quietly, setting out to find the source of the melody.
As he swam through the crystal blue water, the soft sound grew the closer he got to the edge of the coastline. The melody grew clearer, allowing him to appreciate the angelic notes that settled smoothly into the forefront of his mind. He paused behind a large rock as his proximity allowed him to make out lyrics to the enchanting melody.
Each word was sung gracefully; notes strung together fluidly to create the most beautiful noise he’s ever had the pleasure of hearing. He’d be more than happy to relinquish his hold on life if it meant he’d be able to spend the rest of eternity bathed in the heavenly aria that kept him rooted in place.
Finally, he managed to gather enough willpower to peek over the side of the rock, finding an equally captivating sight. The divine figure of a woman rested on a smooth outcrop, back turned to him as she gazed out across the horizon. Her tail was a gorgeous hue; the flowing, graceful shape much different from his own swift and lithe form. She continued to sing, unknowing that she was being watched.
He knew in that moment that she was what he didn’t know he wanted. Who knew that he’d find love in a completely different race. It was unusual for a siren to choose a mermaid, but not unheard of. All he knew is that he’d rather die than let her slip through his fingers.
He patiently listened to the rhythm of her hymn. He didn’t want to be rude and ruin her song by butting in at an impromptu moment.
His tune began low, allowing hers to fade in her throat. As his voice steadily grew, she turned to him in shock, eyes wide with apprehension. From his place before her, he could see the effect his song had on her as her poster relaxed and her eyes became foggy. His song would have a stronger effect on her, considering they're different species, and only sirens have full immunity to another siren's song. As his song continued, he waited patiently for her to leave her perch and join him. He could see the longing to do so in her eyes, the glimmers of yearning to get as close as she could. Yet she remained rooted in place.
Despite her odd behavior, he continued. Taking it upon himself to go to her, his tail pushed him gracefully through the water towards her seated form. His song never paused, lulling the mermaid into relaxing fully in his presence.
As he came closer, he noticed why she remained on the rocks. A yard of fishing nets were tangled around her tail, constricting the beautiful, glimmering fins to her sides. They were hooked and knotted around the sharp edges of the rock face. Judging by the scratch marks and few loose strands, she had been tearing at them for a while.
She began to fidget once he was in arms length, tail jerking against the artificial bindings. Despite his song obviously having the desired effect on her, she was still notably frightened. He felt the fear in her eyes tug painfully at his heartstrings. His chest ached to pull her close and shield her from the horrors that plague the ocean; brushing past the fact this was very out of character for him.
The siren attempted to ease her with a soothing, gentle grasp to her shoulder and a firm look in his eye. He could feel her tremors under his palm. He continued to sing to her, delighted as her shaking dwindled under his gentle hand and soothing song.
Bakugo hummed his tune while he examined the knotted mess trapping her to the rock. With one of his sharp claws, he cut through the mass of netting in one swift movement. He watched her flex her fins, a gentle chirp of appreciation gracing his ears.
After ensuring he'd freed her from the rest of the netting, he motioned for her to join him. The ash blond helped her ease herself into the water with her approval. He could feel nothing but the warmth of her body against his, and the utter jubilation when she made no move to remove herself from his arms.
She gazed up at him with sweet, doe eyes. His heart swelled as he watched her bask in his song with adoration. If he had to pluck every star from the sky to have her continue looking at him like that for even a second more, he'd make sure to snare every constellation for her attention.
He wrapped an arm around her waist, his free hand tangling with one of her own. Upon closer inspection, he noted that she didn't have a mark on her neck near her gills, which usually indicated she had a mate. His findings almost made him break his rhythm with a purr.
They waded there, and as she joined his song, held onto one another amidst the sinking sun and rising tide.
Bakugo continued to sing with his new found love; knowing after he got her comfortable in his- their home, he'd have work to do. No human would sail these waters again, he'd make sure of it.

An in-depth & really interesting review of Head Music’s various - often forgotten but actually brilliant - b-sides. Originally posted on The Vapour Trail London blog on 20 November 2019.
The folklore of early Suede and the B-sides compilation ‘Sci Fi Lullabies’ would lead the casual observer to believe that the band had peaked creatively to the point that post-1997 B-sides would not be worth investigating, however I believe differently and now, thanks to the reissues of ‘Head Music’, these can now be easily accessed for wider reappraisal.
Full article under the cut.
Coincidentally coinciding with the recent release of Brett Anderson’s second memoir ‘Afternoons with the Blinds Drawn’, Suede have issued the 20 year deluxe edition of their fourth album, ‘Head Music’. Their final number one album to date was issued in May of 1999 to much fanfare, following in the footsteps of their classic ‘Coming up’ in 1996, a record that spawned no less than five top ten singles and saw them achieve astronomical fame across Europe and Asia (indeed, Anderson remains a genuine celebrity in parts of Scandinavia as a direct result). Whilst ‘Head Music’ was a hit, its making has gone down in the annals of history as being even more fraught and littered with personal scandal than even that of their second album, ‘Dog Man Star’, the record that infamously served as original guitarist Bernard Butler’s swan song. The chief reason was Anderson’s spiralling addictions to heroin and crack, which in the eyes of the singer served to influence what he and many others deem the patchiness of the record. Indeed, when Suede first reissued their heyday albums back in 2011, Brett would include within the sleeve notes his own rewritten track listings in each, citing Suede’s fervent devotion to ensuring that their B-sides were up to the same quality as their singles and album tracks, thus costing the associated albums some potential improvements. Songs from the album that often raise debate amongst its makers and listeners include ‘Asbestos’, ‘Elephant Man’, and the almost universally-derided title track, a scrappy, crappy exercise in suggestiveness that even producer Steve Osborne initially refused to have anything to do with.
Perhaps due to all of this, the resultant B-sides of the album’s singles have been lost in time somewhat. Whereas the B-sides associated with the first three albums reached legendary status in such a short space of time that the band issued a compilation double album of nearly all of them in 1997, ‘Sci Fi Lullabies’, their 1999 counterparts are rarely spoken of within the same reverent breath. I would argue that this is vastly remiss to the point of sacrilege as, taken in one listenable chunk, they serve to create what on its own would be an incredible record.
But before we investigate further, it’s worth exploring the genesis of Suede’s musical direction at this point. As Brett and the band have noted many times over the years, Suede sought to follow each album with a record almost diametrically opposed to its predecessor stylistically. The kitchen sink gutter glam of their groundbreaking debut was consciously followed by an ambitious, widescreen and darker ‘Dog Man Star’, the pretension and bluster of which was then followed by a strict album of ‘ten singles’ in ‘Coming Up’. Each time, at least one B-side would serve as a blueprint for what would follow; 1993’s ‘High Rising’ and ‘The Big Time’ served very much of signposts for what would follow in 1994, and then again in 1995, Richard Oakes’ sexy glam pop of ‘Together’ would point the band towards ‘Coming Up’ in 1996. Here, they would seek to expand upon the sonic direction of Mat Osman-penned ‘Europe is Our Playground’, a song they so loved they reworked its arrangement live and subsequently re-recorded for the aforementioned B-Sides compilation of 1997. Caked in icy synths and led by a dub-inspired bass line, it signified something cold and electronic, the desolate melancholy of ‘Dog Man Star’ reimagined by Kraftwerk or Berlin-era Bowie. The band promised this new direction in interviews and the public’s appetite was whetted.
Early in 1998, as part of a Pet Shop Boys-curated tribute to Noel Coward’, the band released one of their prime hidden gems, a suitably synthetic and clinical version of the great writer’s ‘Poor Little Rich Girl’. Unfortunately this was shown to the masses on television via a mimed performance that saw an utterly wasted Anderson grinning inanely with zoned out eyes whilst trying not to fall off a chair. This performance distracted from the impressive song (also featuring the highly talented Raissa, who had supported Suede on their Coming Up tour, on vocals) and seemingly left no impression on anybody.
And so to fast forward to the album. The making of the record has been documented extensively not only in Anderson’s second autobiography but also in David Barnett’s authorised biography ‘Love and Poison’ and Mike Christie’s recent documentary set ‘The Insatiable Ones’. If you’re not familiar with the story, it is a jaw dropping tale of decadence, debauchery and depression, the likes of which have seemingly and thankfully been removed from the culture of music making today. Indeed, there’s not a lot of money around now for bands to blow on endless recording sessions fuelled by endless drug abuse. But what emerged was a flawed but often brilliant record that has stood the test of time well and honestly sounds as fresh as the day it was released. The album’s track list can and will continue to be debated but ultimately, had they shaved off two of the more superfluous numbers (I would argue that the title track serves no purpose as does the turgid closing track ‘Crack in the Union Jack’), it would likely be held in the same high regard as the vast portion of their other records. But we won’t dwell on that here.
First single ‘Electricity’ was accompanied by no fewer than five b-sides, all of which carry some merit. ‘Popstar’, a concise lyrical study of the relationship between fan and band, contains the kind of crystalline synths and dubby bass that the band had sought to highlight with their two musical blueprints prior to the album. Richard Oakes’ guitar parts are sparser than ever before but serve the song well, and the chorus is cold and epic in a way that takes the song from good to great. ‘Killer’, complete with a lyric that seems to expand upon the ficitonlised femme fatale of ‘Coming Up’s ‘She’, is more impressive still; a dark, brooding slice of electro-noir that slinks and stalks in the manner suggested by the song’s lyric. It builds and builds to a desperate crescendo and brings to mind the best of Depeche Mode at their ‘Violator’ zenith. ‘See That Girl’, complete with yearning Anderson vocals lamenting ‘this dog shit world’, is less impressive but still good. A real undersung high point of the time is the Neil Codling-written and sang ‘Waterloo’, an electronic folk classic that sees some beautifully melodic guitar lines almost acting as choruses, and a tenderness rarely reached by the band. The fifth and final b-side (it was on the minidisc – yes, minidisc – version of the single), is ‘Implement Yeah!’, an old co-write with Justine Frischmann where Brett parodies Mark E Smith to amusing effect over a gutter-punk thrash that the band premiered with Justine at the 1997 Reading Festival.
‘She’s in Fashion’ followed in 1999 and quickly became one of the band’s better known songs via endless radio play that perhaps contributed to it being their first single since ‘New Generation’ in 1995 not to reach the top ten. Looking back, I imagine the fact that you could walk into any shop at any time during that Summer and be exposed to it as one reason why fewer people bought it than they might otherwise. The B-sides rank among the band’s very best. ‘Bored’ continues where ‘Implement Yeah’ left off with a Stooges-like guitar thrash adorned by sweet synths and a classically anthem Suede chorus. During an interview at the end of 1999, Mat Osman threatened a harder, rockier direction for the next album which never did come to fruition and it’s possible that this would have been one of its blueprints. ‘Pieces Of My Mind’ is better still, and a rehearsal recording of it sounding very different can be found on the new reissue. Taking its cue from ‘Europe is Our Playground’, it is a dreamlike wander through almost psychedelic electronica and its lilting chorus imprints itself on your mind immediately. ‘Jubilee’, a Codling creation, is one of the best of the era and would probably have made for a better first single than ‘Electricity’, a romantic epic that chugs along like ‘Trash’ and bears a dramatic and addictive chorus that would surely have been incredible live. Perhaps the lyric was somewhat off-putting to the band, a blank retread of other songs including the ‘run with me’ hook of the ubiquitous ‘Europe’. If so, this is a shame as if we are to be honest (and Brett has said so numerous times himself), the entire era was marred by some seriously autopilot lyricism that was charming in places in its framing of the Suede lyrical lexicon of language, and just plain boring in others. The single is rounded off by the gorgeous ‘God’s Gift’, a simplistic piano piece aided and abetted by swirling synths and understated bass that had been written by Brett about Justine many years before. As with a few of Suede’s records (most notably the first album), the spectre and influence of Ms Frischmann lurks around the songs of this era but in perhaps a much more positive way; the two had rekindled their friendship prior to the making of the album and it was Justine’s love of new wave that inspired some of the music.
‘Everything Will Flow’, the great lost ballad of the era in the same way as ‘The Wild Ones’ had been five years prior, saw an interesting bag of B-sides attached that differed in style in a far more pronounced way than the two earlier singles. ‘Leaving’, which Brett sees as the ultimate casualty of this period, is prime Suede in its romantic portrait of a girl departing relationship for a new life, although the underlying sentiment is entirely opposite of that of ‘Another No One’ in 1996. Although still featuring synthesised textures, its abundance of gentle guitar and piano is much more organic and not only serves as an appropriate backing to the not dissimilar ‘Flow’ but also as a subtle nod to where the band would go next. ‘Weight of the World’ is entirely a Neil Codling construction as with the earlier ‘Digging a Hole’ on the ‘Lazy’ single of 1997, however here he is eschews piano in favour of nylon strung guitar. Ruminating on the idea of his own demise, the song finds Neil in introspective form and perhaps shows a window into how he must have been feeling at the time, his health suffering significantly during the making of the record resulting in a chronic bout of ME of which he would never fully recover. It is sad and beautiful and at the time I wondered whether he would one day make a solo record. To date, he never has. ‘Seascape’ is up next, an ambient instrumental piece at odds with the majority of Suede’s output (indeed I believe this is Suede’s sole instrumental within their canon). Pleasing and dreamy in a subtly Eno-esque way, it lures you into a false sense of security for what would follow. The final song of the ensemble is the shocking and brilliant ‘Crackhead’. Noted by Q at the time for its outlandish appeal, it remains one of the most captivating songs in Suede’s history. Built around a staccato electronic motif, it lurches and grinds in a manner the band never achieved before or since, as a hoarse Anderson vocal tears apart his own addiction to the ice with suitable ice. At the time, Brett was in recovery, however this sounds like an isolated howl from the depths of dependence. It roars and builds to a final shrieking chorus of ‘you can’t give it up’ which says all that really needed to be said.
The final single of the era, ‘Can’t Get Enough’, another candidate for what should have previewed the album in place of ‘Electricity’, limped to number 24 in the charts but boasted perhaps the greatest array of B-sides of all the singles. In archetypal Suede fashion, ‘Let Go’ cut an honest precursor to the musical way forward, which would culminate in the predominantly folky ‘A New Morning’. Three-layered harmonies and melodic acoustic strum back one of Richard Oakes’ finest guitar performances, chiming and chugging riffery that would be revisited on later single ‘Obsessions’. Brett’s lyrics convey an all-pervaying positivity minus the bland triteness of the single of the same name, capping off an irrestible euphoria that would be deemed suitable for release as an A-side in their commercial home from home that was Sweden. It’s a shame that they were unable to replicate the feeling of the song across the subsequent ‘A New Morning’ album, however upon reflection the fault may lie in the fact that said album would be over-produced to the point of clean-cut nothingness by the otherwise accomplished Stephen Street. Next song ‘Since You Went Away’ is folkier still and retains much of the same charm, with Brett lamenting the feeling of loss felt in the aftermath of a realtionship break-up. Again, this is truly lovely stuff and acts as a further blueprint for album number five that would never quite be capitalised on. Heading over to CD2, ‘Situations’ is powered by a synthesised Eastern motif and ponders the ‘lonely minds’ and ‘vacant stares’ typical of Anderson’s lyrics of the time. While slightly over long, it would have worked on ‘Head Music’ had it been the more darker record the band initially promised, and even to these ears sounds somewhat influential on final Suede single (at the time), 2003’s ‘Attitude’. The very final B-side of this era is the brilliant and biting ‘Read My Mind’. As with ‘Crackhead’, it reveals a starker, harsher sound complimented by the blank words defining a phase of depression, most likely revealing the way the writer was feeling at the time. The chorus harmonies add to the relentlessness of the piece and once it’s over, you’re honestly left wanting more.
So these B-sides make up the lost record of 1999 whilst also pointing towards Suede’s final record of their first run. The rockier record that Osman hinted at was surely influenced by the likes of ‘Bored’, ‘Crackhead’ and ‘Read My Mind’, whilst the likes of ‘Let Go’, ‘Leaving’ and ‘Since You Went Away’ were very definitely influences on what eventually did surface.

Fic Writer Interview Meme
@starvels tagged me in this and I feel very loved.
Name: msermesth, sometimes ms, or erm, or mserm.
Fandoms: Always Marvel, forever Marvel, primarily focusing on comic stuff and the MCU. I discovered the Untamed a few months ago and I've been obsessed ever since. There are a couple of random things in there, and I've recently gone down a RPF rabbit hole I don't want to talk about.
Two-Shots:
1. Won't Stop to Surrender is the only fic I've done that's two chapters. It's a Steve/Tony missing scene fic that goes through CACW, and each chapter is a different POV. I really like this fic! It's really moody, but I really enjoy rereading it.
Most Popular Fics:
1. In Dreams (Everything Makes Sense) is my first posted fic. Oh, god it feels like forever ago. Rereading it gives me a a combo of second hand embarrassment and pride. I do really like a lot of the scenes, though. I've gotten better at titles since then, too
2. Detours in Getting to Yes - or the 'gentrification' fic. I'm pro this fic. It required a lot of research, both canon-wise and housing policy wise.
3. A Proportional Response - President Cap is a cockblock. Finally a conduit for all of my West Wing knowledge. Even the title is a reference.
4. Magnetic North - Did I arbitrarily extend this list just to include this fic? Yes. I am so full of pride for this fic. I love everything about it, right down to the setting. It took up so much of my brain space that once I posted it I couldn't listen to the associated playlist for years.
Actual Worst Part of Writing:
Editing. I'll let something sit indefinitely if it means I can avoid editing it. I'm not good at detail work and am just an awful speller, and yeah, editing. I hate it.
How You Choose Your Titles:
Lots of song lyrics, honestly. I like trying to think of interesting titles that aren't song lyrics, and am proud of Detours in Getting to Yes and Magnetic North for that reason. I really enjoyed when I did that 'Flash Fics for New Comics' thing because I didn't have to title shit unless it sparked joy. That was great.
Do You Outline:
If it's long, somewhat? If it requires keeping an eye on what day of the week it is (In Dreams was like that), then I will. For other long fics I might now write something down, but I have a strong sense of how many scenes they will be and what will happen in them. Sometimes I'll free associate outline when I'm feeling stuck.
Stuff You'd Like to Write, But Are Not Writing:
More not Marvel stuff, honestly. I'm working on some Untamed stuff, so that doesn't really count, but there's a lot of smaller fandoms I wish I would make the effort to dip my toes into. The Americans, for example.
I'd also like to write some smaller ships in Marvel, and more gen type stuff.
What do you got to say to yourself?
You're happier when you're writing you're happier when you're writing you're happier when you're writing. But also don't get to obsessed or tire yourself out. Talk to people! Community is important! And stop it with the compound sentences they really throw off your rhythm.
Best Writing Traits:
Feels? I like the feels I write. I'm proud of most of the porn, too, lol. When I get in a groove, I'm there, and it's great, and so much writing happens.
Tangential Opinion:
The weird, only-you-can-write-it stuff is always going to be your best. Don't be afraid to let your freak flag fly. I don't even mean in a sexy way, just know that those weird quirks your brain is obsessed with is what makes your writing so great to others. And there's always someone with the same quirks.
tagging: I'm going to be that person who doesn't tag anybody. I think most of the people I know have been tagged and also I'm too lazy to see if the rest have either. Just know that if we're mutuals and you see this and want to do it, I WANT YOU TO DO IT. They're really fun to read.
#about me#I feel like I'm not involved enough in fandom to do these things any more#but still#they're fun

OH, TAYLOR! Taylor Swift On Side-Stepping Into Acting, Owning What You Make & Loving The “Weirdness” Of Cats
On a grey London afternoon in late September, Taylor Swift slips quietly through the doors of a north London recording studio. It is an auspicious moment: the queen of confessional pop has come to meet Andrew Lloyd Webber, the king of musical theatre. Together, Swift, who turns 30 this month, and Lloyd Webber, 71, have written “Beautiful Ghosts”, a new song for the soon-to-be-released film adaptation of Cats – Webber’s 1981 extravaganza, which ran in the West End and on Broadway for a combined total of almost 40 years. In it, Swift plays Bombalurina, and like her co-stars – Idris Elba, Judi Dench, Francesca Hayward, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, Rebel Wilson – appears in full, furry CGI glory. Track finished, these two titans of the music industry sit down to talk…
Andrew Lloyd Webber: Well, the first thing we have to clear up is that we both love cats. Taylor Swift: [Laughs] We do! One of the first things you said to me when we met was that you’re president of the Turkish Van Cat Club. ALW: Professionally, there is nowhere I can go to top this, as you can completely understand. TS: I have three cats. How many do you have now? ALW: I have three, too – they are all Turkish Vans. And you’ve got a Scottish Fold I believe. TS: I have two Scottish Folds, we think the third is a Ragdoll mix. ALW: You’re probably never going to talk to me again, but you know I’ve got a puppy? He’s called Mojito. TS: I heard about this! How does he get along in the hierarchy? ALW: Well, he believes he’s a little bear actually. He’s a Havanese dog, which I got because Glenn Close has one. TS: I’ve met that dog, he’s really good. ALW: You come from Pennsylvania. TS: I do. People seem to think I was raised in the south, but I’m from the north – grew up on a Christmas tree farm, then moved to Nashville when I was 14. ALW: And you wanted to move to Nashville for the songwriting or the singing? Or both? TS: Both – I was just obsessed with Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, and the thing they had in common was that they had gotten discovered in Nashville. So I had it in my head that this is a magical place where discoveries are made and people are able to do music as a living. ALW: Was it the storytelling side of country songs that you liked? Absolutely. It reminded me of the ’90s, when you had these amazing female singer-songwriters like Alanis Morissette and Sarah McLachlan; incredible female writers like Melissa Etheridge, Shawn Colvin; and these types of Lilith Fair women. Then you started to hit the 2000s and the only place I could find real confessional storytelling was country music. ALW: Did you know anybody when you got to Nashville? TS: No, we didn’t really. I’d been going there on vacation with my family, and my mom, my little brother and I would stay in a hotel and try to meet people. Eventually, after several trips, I got a development deal – it’s a non-committal record deal, like, “We’ll watch you develop for a year and then we’ll decide if we sign you.” That was grounds enough to move the family. ALW: Presumably you were in school in Nashville as well? TS: Yes, I was going to high school during the day and doing my songwriting sessions at night. It was a double life. I’d be writing notes in class, and my teachers never knew if they were notes for my class or if I’d gotten an idea for a song. ALW: How many songs would you write in a day? TS: Usually, never more than one. I had these sessions every day, and if I didn’t come in with a good idea, I’d get stared at. You’re not inspired every day, as you know, but you have to show up and treat it like a job. That’s where I learned the craft of songwriting. ALW: I’ve never worked like that, because I’m so story driven. What interests me, though, is how Nashville works. How did you get your foot on the performing ladder? TS: It was really writing first. At the same time, I was singing the national anthem every time I could – at festivals and fairs and bars, anywhere I could get up on stage. I was trying to hone both sides of what I was doing, but I’m very well aware that I would not have a career if I hadn’t been a writer. I wouldn’t have just been a singer, it wouldn’t have worked. ALW: I guess that, today, very few people have a major career unless they write. TS: Yeah, I agree. I think it’s really important – also from the side of ownership over what you do and make. Even if you aren’t a natural writer, you should try to involve yourself in the messages you’re sending. ALW: How does a young country artist get their first break? TS: I worked as hard as I could, reached out to as many people as I could to make sure I got meetings with publishing companies and labels. They didn’t come about very easily, but once I got in the room I’d just get out my guitar and play for them. ALW: Do you have to sing in a certain club to get to the next stage? TS: Everyone does it a different way, but the Bluebird Cafe is a place where everyone was discovered – from Garth Brooks to Faith Hill to, arguably, me. I remember being at your house after we’d written a song, and you telling me you’d bought it when you were 24 or something, that’s when I realised just how young you were when you had a vision to be doing this at such a high level. ALW: I was writing for the theatre when I was eight-years-old. I had a little toy theatre and did dreadful musicals on terrible subjects. Then, when I was about 13, I met a boy who wanted to write lyrics, and we did a couple of musicals at school. TS: So from the beginning you would pair up with a lyricist? ALW: One of the things I worked out very early was Lloyd Webber and lyrics are not a good idea. TS: Wow. It is a good alliteration, though. ALW: You were 19, weren’t you, when you had your first big hit? TS: I was about 18 when “Love Story”, a song I’d written alone, was a worldwide hit. I was lucky enough to work my way up in country music, for new artists nowadays, it feels like the trajectory of their career is like being shot out of a canon into a stratosphere they could in no way be prepared for. I got to sort of acclimate to every step of the path I was on, and by the time I had a massive hit I’d been working since I was 14. Moving from country music to pop was a crazy adjustment for me. ALW: And now we’ve written “Beautiful Ghosts” together for Cats. TS: I remember the moment. I went over to your apartment to rehearse “Macavity” and you sat down at the piano and started to play this haunting, beautiful melody, and I think I just started singing to it right away. ALW: You wrote the lyrics more or less then and there – it was fantastic. TS: It’s a different perspective on the song “Memory”, too, and the character of Grizabella [played by Jennifer Hudson], who used to have majestic, glamorous times and doesn’t anymore. On the other side of it, you have this little white cat [Victoria, played by Francesca Hayward] who’s been abandoned – she’s afraid she’ll never have a chance to have beautiful memories. So that’s where she’s singing “Beautiful Ghosts” from, to counter Grizabella’s idea of tragedy. ALW: I’d like to come back to something I thought when I heard your album, Lover – which is really absolutely brilliant. Am I right in thinking you approached its recording just as though you were giving live performances? TS: I did. I was really singing a lot at that point – I’d just come from a stadium tour, and then did Cats, which was all based on live performances – so a lot of that album is nearly whole takes. When you perform live, you’re narrating and you’re getting into the story and you’re making faces that are ugly and you’re putting a different meaning on a song every time you perform it. ALW: That’s the point isn’t it. TS: Yeah. ALW: Does that ever make you feel you want to be an actress? TS: I have no idea. When I was younger, I used to get questions like, “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” I’d try to answer. As I get older, I’m learning that wisdom is learning how dumb you are compared to how much you are going to know. I really had an amazing time with Cats. I think I loved the weirdness of it. I loved how I felt I’d never get another opportunity to be like this in my life. ALW: It’s weird, what I’ve seen of the movie. TS: It’s decidedly weird [they laugh]. ALW: I think Tom [Hooper, the film’s director] has really tried to make something original. And I agree, I think as you get older you do become less sure of yourself and start to question what you can do. Would you consider doing a musical? TS: A musical? Absolutely, absolutely. ALW: Or writing your own? TS: That is way up there on my list of dreams. ALW: You should. TS: Was it really wonderful for you when you got the news that Judi Dench had accepted the role of Old Deuteronomy? ALW: Judi was in the original version in 1981 but she snapped her Achilles tendon and had to withdraw. Then I had this idea, which I ran past Tom, that we could make Old Deuteronomy a woman. Seeing her perform this time was quite an emotional thing for me, because it was a very, very sad day when she had to leave the original show. TS: She’s lovely. I remember being on set, and there is one scene that Idris [Elba, who plays Macavity] and I do with Judi, and someone walked up to me with this kind of gummy candy and I was like, “Oh, I’ve never had this before, this must be British candy, this is amazing.” I was raving about this candy so much, and Judi must have overheard me, because the next day I got to my dressing room and there was a signed photo from Judi and, like, six bags of it [they laugh]. Andrew, we both started young. What do we have in common from our experiences? What do you think was hard about it? And what was great? ALW: I suppose what was hard for me was that I was a fish out of the mainstream water. In the 1960s, to love musicals was as uncool as you could possibly be, and kids in my class at school would laugh at me. TS: I was the same. I loved country music and, where I was in school, the kids were just completely perplexed by that. It’s gotten more mainstream, but when I was a 13-year-old in Pennsylvania, I got similar reactions. Do you feel like you’re glad you were really young when you started? ALW: Yeah, are you? TS: I’m really glad, even though there are challenges to it – like you’re not allowed to make the same mistakes as everyone else because your mistakes are a commodity. ALW: And your mistakes are made in public. But we share something in common, in which we are extremely lucky. We both knew at an early age what we wanted to do, and most people in life don’t have a clue. TS: That’s very true. I think, also, a lot of the time when people see a career that they want it can be results-based. Rather than wanting to write musicals, they want to be a person who has written musicals. But when I see you work, I see you consistently creating and being curious about the next idea. You relish in the process even more than the rewards, which is the advice I would give anyone who wanted to do anything remotely close to this job. It cannot be about the results. ALW: It’s the process isn’t it? TS: It has to be. It’s supposed to be fun!
MEET & GREET: Introducing the faces behind this month’s issue
When it came to interviewing Taylor Swift about her musical-movie debut in Cats, there was only one man for the job: Andrew Lloyd Webber, composer of the original West End and Broadway mega hit. The two colossi of songwriting had plenty to discuss at a recording studio in north London – art, ambition and authenticity, plus what we can expect from the soon-to-be-released film.
Vogue: What was it like to work with Taylor? Andrew Lloyd Webber: She’s supremely professional and very charming with it. In my view, she could go far. Vogue: What was your first impression of her? ALW: She’s a lot taller than me, and a lot more attractive. Vogue: What’s your favourite Swift hit? ALW: “Blank Space” from the album 1989. It’s a great pop song with great lyrics.

My Obikin Playlist Masterpost Part 2
Not that anybody was really waiting for this, but here is the second part of the playlist with an explanation for each song. If you are interested in reading my rant on the first 20 songs, you can check the post I made last week HERE.
Without further ado, I'll leave you to my rant for songs 21 to 40.
☙ ✤ ❧ ☙ ✤ ❧ ☙ ✤ ❧ ☙ ✤ ❧ ☙ ✤ ❧ ☙ ✤ ❧
❧ One in a Million - Midnight to Monaco
Tears fall like acid rain and it burns me through the skin It's taken everything from me, I've lost my innocence The bats brings the night today, watch them turn the sky to black Like a gun that fires that sound again Frightens me until the bitter end I can't keep holding on And I hide away I need it to keep me from breaking down And I'm under Baby I can't carry on, dead and I've been buried on Baby, I was one in a million Even if our love was strong, take me down and let it fall Baby, I was one in a million And I was holding, burning, waking, turning Tasting blood and losing time I want to get a hold of myself Baby, I was one in a million [...] And I need it to keep me from thinking I won't find my wings no more
This entire song is about how someone's life gets absolutely destroyed by drug abuse. Or at least, that's how I always interpreted this. But drug abuse always makes me think about any kind of obsessions doing exactly the same thing. So I love this song for Anakin in particular. That "I was one in a million" giving me this "Chosen One" vibe. Like he got lost on the way to what he was supposed to be, and now that he's fallen he has no clue how to get back to what he was supposed to be, that one in a million.

❧ Losing My Religion - R.E.M.
The lengths that I will go to The distance in your eyes Oh no, I've said too much I set it up That's me in the corner That's me in the spotlight Losing my religion Trying to keep up with you And I don't know if I can do it Oh no, I've said too much I haven't said enough [...] Every whisper, of every waking hour I'm choosing my confessions Trying to keep an eye on you Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool, fool [...] Consider this the hint of the century Consider this the slip That brought me to my knees, failed
Another classic song that is in basically any ships' playlist. And it fits so much with unrequited love (or pining in general). How can I not think of Obi-Wan trying desperately to be a good Jedi while he's well aware of his feelings for Anakin?
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Hurt Me - Lapsley
Can't look at you the same way, anticipatin' heartbreak And I know, and I know, and I know I'm puttin' on a brave face to meet you in the same place And I know, and I know, and I know Gotta let my mind find another space 'Cause I heard these scars never go away And now I'm runnin' out of ways to numb the pain So if you're gonna hurt Why don't you hurt me a little bit more? Just dig a little deeper Push a little harder than before [...] Like breathing underwater, what's the law and order? I don't know, I don't know, I don't know You're sitting in a corner, hiding til it's over And it shows, and it shows, and it shows Buildin' up my walls just to tear them down Tell me that it's love, force me to drown Buildin' up my walls just to tear them down Tell me that it's love And I thought you said you still loved me [...] And I'm counting down the seconds that we have I can see the end in sight, at last So if you're gonna hurt me Why don't you hurt me a little bit more?
This entire song makes me think of one of those situations where both of them are pining and convinced that the other is about to tell them something that would end up breaking their heart. Basically first half is Obi-Wan knowing from the start that they won't work, maybe because he thinks Anakin is in love with Padmé and that's what Anakin wants to talk about; second half is Anakin, sure that Obi-Wan would deny having feelings for him because of how much he loves being a Jedi so he tries to be a better Jedi for the sake of Obi-Wan. Because I love the trope of both of them being too oblivious to realize they are in love.
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ The Shelter of My Love - Astropol
When you have nothing to lose No one dear and no one to care for Non one sees you but I do I'll take you in I won't let you go Oh the middle of the night Black as tar and eager to hold you Just as pretty as my love Just as hungry Just as eternal [...] When you have no bridge to burn No place to go, no place to return to No one loves you like I do I love you [...] When you have nothing to lose And nightfall comes, eager to hold you No one loves you like I do I love you I love you, I love you Oh shelter of my faith All the peril, all the weight Mighty glorious The shelter of my faith Oh shelter of my trust All the longing, all the lust God will help you if you lost the shelter of my trust
I'm perfectly aware that this is a song about faith. It's basically like a call to pray because even when you are lost the one person that will always be there for you is God. BUT, this actually works pretty well for the Jedi Order too. And if we think of how Anakin joined the Jedi, how he felt like the only thing he would lose is his mother, it kinda makes sense with these lyrics. And even Obi-Wan: he was given to the Jedi when he was so young that that's the only life he knows. At the same time, it can be about Anakin and Obi-Wan finding that solace in each other too, because sure, the entire Order is there to support them. But it's almost like it's their last option to them, because when in need the first person they go to is the other.

❧ The Night We Met - Lord Huron
I am not the only traveler Who has not repaid his debt I've been searching for a trail to follow again Take me back to the night we met And then I can tell myself What the hell I'm supposed to do And then I can tell myself Not to ride along with you I had all and then most of you Some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met I don't know what I'm supposed to do Haunted by the ghost of you Oh, take me back to the night we met When the night was full of terrors And your eyes were filled with tears When you had not touched me yet Oh, take me back to the night we met
You should know me by now. If a song that is basically perfect for Obi-Wan post RotS, I'm gonna find it. And this one is just PERFECT! Like, Obi-Wan absolutely feels like he owes something to the universe because he is the one who failed Anakin, who allowed him to fall. So I imagine him wanting a do-over, a chance to stay away from Anakin so that Anakin can be better and his own heart can't be broken in such a terrible way. Basically, this is also perfect for a time traveler Obi-Wan trying to fix things from day 1.
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Danger - JKAY feat Shola Ama
I'm a million reasons in And I'm going out on a limb But I can't, no I can't deny Cause I, I fell in love with danger And I think I found a stranger in you The boy that I knew, left me torn into two And I don't know what to do
Nothing fancy about this one, just Obi-Wan realizing there is a wild side to the cute, totally unable to flirt young teenager he took care of for so long. Basically something to write smut on. You all know you need these kind of songs too. (And I picked the acoustic version because it gives me more soft love-making vibes, but the original one is perfect for a more passionate kind of mood).

❧ Amandoti - Giovanni Lindo Ferretti
Loving you makes me weary, guts my insides (It’s) Something that feels like laughing in tears Loving you makes me weary, it makes me sorrowful What can you do (about it), that’s life That’s life, my (life) [...] Loving you comforts my sleepless nights It’s something that replaces old dead flames Loving you comforts me, it gives me joy What can you do (about it), that’s life But (that) life is my life Love me once more, do it softly One year, one month, one hour (Do it) Hopelessly Love me once more, do it softly Just for an hour But let it be forever
I was forced to put the live version from the original composer in the playlist, but a couple of weeks ago I posted a link to Maneskin's cover of this song (which, isn't on Spotify). You can check it out HERE, with a full translation of the lyrics (yes, Italian songs will always be a thing for this playlist, get over it). Like I said in the tags of that post, this is just another one of those songs that give me post RotS Obi-Wan feels. Just him all alone and heartbroken wishing he could feel Anakin's love just once more. Simply perfection.

❧ Lemon Eyes - Meg Myers
Hush now baby, there's no need to cry Let me wipe away those lemon eyes All your worries, such a waste of time You can't even see how much you're mine You're so bitter, bitter, bitter, yellow Settle, settle, got to settle down, okay Listen, listen, you listen, yellow It's a killer, a killer, a killer jealousy Lemon eyes, you're mine Yellow eyes, all mine I bet you wanna walk away, run away, look away, turn away Honey you can't hide Lemon eyes, all mine
Do I even have to explain this? It's basically perfect for all of Anakin's issues with jealousy, but with what yellow eyes mean in this fandom it could absolutely be about Sith!Anakin. It's just such a fitting song for these two, with Obi-Wan trying to reason with a very unreasonable Anakin... (And I might have anonymously suggested to someone to listen to it as a good song for their fic. *coff coff* @tennessoui *coff coff*)
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ 10 Years - Daði Freyr
We've been together for a decade now Still everyday I'm lovin' you more If I could do it all again I'd probably do it all the same as before I don't wanna know what would've happened If I never had had your love I didn't became myself before I met you I don't wanna know what would've happened If I never had felt you love Everything about you, I like We started out so fast Now we can take it slower Love takes some time Takes a little time, so take a litte time As it ages like wine [...] And just when I thought that my heart was full I found place that I never explored You're so fascinating And I can't remember the last time I was bored [...] How does it keep getting better? Everyday our love finds a new way to grow The time we spend together Simply feels good We got a good thing going
How could I not put this song in this playlist? Like, it can literally be about how in the many years together, their love for each other grew and grew, and changed to get better with time. But it can also be just Anakin and Obi-Wan in an established relationship, since this is technically a song about a ten years anniversary. I just LOVE IT. It's super sweet and we all need fluff sometimes.
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Different Kind Of Love - Kid Runner
It was always you there Dancing towards me Grabbing both my hands like Here we go, here we go again Maybe it was destiny We were so familiar But you caught me staring And I don't know, I don't know, I guess [...] And when you're near me I can't help but be under your spell Can I make you believe you're the only one I need? [...] It must've been something A switch in my brain It kept me in motion It drove me insane It must've been something Something you said You're pulling me under Holding me close Inside my head Oh, it's a different kind of love And when I see your face I know, I know You got me going Oh, and this could be enough I'm dreaming wide awake I know, I know
Classic friends to lovers AU song that works wonders with Anakin's kind of love, all obsessive and stuff. Definitely can picture teen Anakin pining over Obi-Wan to the tune of this, all awkward boners at absolutely inappropriate times and Obi-Wan never truly pointing it out, because he doesn't want to make Anakin even more uncomfortable.
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Ruthless - GIRLI
Home? What's that? I got a doll's house with a few cracks Grew too tall, now I'm poking out the attic My feet are in the basement 'cause I never wanna hack it Life, what's that? Life, what's that? [...] Take my soul, Take me down Take me back to the beginning of this when I was still innocent Me, sorry who? I'm a kid in a grown-up suit Looking in the mirror tryna figure out who's Banging on the glass 'cause they're tryna break through Is it me? Is it you? Think it's me, wish I knew Take me, use me, screw me over Play me like I like losing Trip me, trick me, drug me Say you love me but you like cheating You're the only one to blame You made me this way Guess that's why I'm so damn Ruthless You made me, you made me You made me ruthless You made me, you made me You made me ruthless Only way to do it When you break me and I lose it Oh, you made me You made me so damn fucking ruthless [...] Yeah it's tragic All the bad bits Made me so damn ruthless No, it's not me I don't wanna be Ruthless
Being a woman, I know perfectly that this song is about how sometimes women have to grow up to be mean because of all of the abuse they go throw in their life. But I kind of see Anakin as this person that would absolutely blame everyone else for his fall to the Dark Side and this works so well! Like, the doll house is a metaphor for how the Jedi Order was supposed to be his home, but in the end he felt like he was used, like the Jedi told him they loved him just to trick him into doing whatever they wanted, basically cheating him of a simpler life with his mom. And even the looking in the mirror thing could be when he's already in the Vader suit and he doesn't know if Vader is what he was supposed to be all along or somewhere inside him there's this young innocent child trying to get out. What can I say, most of the times I have Obi-Wan feelings. But every once in a while I find something twisted enough to give me Anakin/Vader feelings too.
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ All or Nothing - Wild Youth
I remember when we were younger We used to stay up late We used to watch the sun go down, the sun go down Yeah at night I, I think about ya How I spent so long living without ya You're all I need, the air I breathe So hold tight, I'm coming 'Cause it's all or nothing I'm a million miles away and I feel so low I've been driving all night just to get back home to you To you See the sunrise, it's a classi break Driving down roads that I used to take with you With you Every streetlight, new horizon Start to wonder if you realise Oh, we were vain, was more than friends So hold tight, I'm coming 'Cause it's all or nothing
Okay, this is kind of perfect for a very specific kind of AU. Like, the "they used to be childhood friends, then got separated by life, but they were always meant for each other, so after meeting once by chance after years separated, they can't go back to their life, they have to stay with the other" kind of specific AU. The song might work with how the Clone Wars kept them separate too, but... yeah. It's kinda specific. Sorry not sorry.

❧ Someone Like You - Noah Kahan feat. Joy Oladokun
Guess I'm a mess now Lost with my head down I haven't heard from you in weeks You must have left town I can't go back now And all that I have now Are those feelings I felt Knowing that no one else can bring them back out And I've been trying to find a silver lining But I can't But I can't Now that I can't hold you I wish that I had tried to Do more not to lose you Now that I can't find you Because the second you left, yeah the voice in my head screamed "What did I do?" Now you're gone and all I want is someone like you
Once again, ignoring that this is a song about a couple breaking up after one of the two cheated because this is also perfect for Anakin confessing his love for Obi-Wan as soon as he's a Knight. He was sure that would make Obi-Wan accept his love and try to get in a relationship, instead Obi-Wan panicked and asked to get sent as far away from Anakin as he could. So of course Anakin is filled with regret about his confession.
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Big Boy - Charlotte Cardin
Maybe if I spell it out Big boy will take me on proper You nailed my heart to your wall You never dusted off after [...] Maybe if I'm a broken wing Big boy in my nest You nailed my heart to your wall And disposed of the rest of me With your push and shove Like what's love ain't love But it's love to me My boy is not a man yet My boy is not a man yet But boy do I love it when you kiss my neck Oh boy last night was perfect You're changing my mind Like what's mine ain't mine Be mine to be Maybe if we try again Big boy we could have it my way You nailed my heart to your wall But it was damaged anyways
Another song to write smut to, but smut with feels. Mainly Obi-Wan's, that maybe feels like Anakin played with him just so that they could sleep together, but never actually tried to put a pin on what their relationship is supposed to be after. And Obi-Wan realizes that part of the reason is that Anakin is still so young and maybe he's the one that made a mistake. Like, he's not even sure that what he feels is real, but he still keeps following what Anakin wants because what is the alternative after all?
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Home with You - Marie Dahlstrom
Happy to be home with you Happy to wake up with you Even after all that you've benne through Happy that you feel the same Hope that I can ease the pain Happy to come by 'Cause you just give me life And I love spending time with you It's easy when I want you like that I don't regret it even if you might think That I've got Plenty other reasons in my head Plenty other questions still unsaid Nobody knows where you'll go but I'm here [...] I don't understand it all Still I will accept your flaws Just the way that you're accepting mine No, I'm not really one to judge We can laugh it off because It's just one life for you and I and I know [...] Feels so good when it's You by my side I could just stay all night I could just stay all night I love the things you do Nobody knows where we'll go but I'm here Baby, whenever you need me Baby come over, baby come over Whenever you need I will always be by your side
This song can honestly fit multiple things. It can absolutely be Obi-Wan accepting that Anakin reaches out for him only in certain situations and him always being open to it, no matter how their relationship isn't really the traditional kind of relationship (like, a friends with benefits kind of deal). But it can also be Obi-Wan and Anakin getting together when Anakin is already Vader, so Obi-Wan is slowly falling to the Dark Side too. You can also just use this as another song to write soft love making too since it's so slow and soft. Or just do whatever you want with it.
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Hands Tied - Beatrich
You got me home sick for your arms The arms that keep me close But you just slip though my fingers Like I'm tryna catch a ghost I'd travel to the moon and back For you and all that you could say is That you didn't ask for that You'd never ask I'd travel to the moon and back For you and all that you could say is That you didn't ask for that You'd never And you stand there Looking at me with my hands tied And how foolish Foolish of me to let this one slide I'm terrified The roots are way too deep And there is no way out You just stand there Looking at me with my hands tied
Huge vibes of Anakin being mad in love with Obi-Wan, and Obi-Wan pushing him away because he sees Anakin as a brother, not as a lover. And there's all kind of pining from Anakin because of the unrequited love and he tries to do crazy stuff for Obi-Wan hoping he will fall in love with him but it fails... Yeah, that's the angst that hurts in the best way! (But, you know, can totally be reversed to Obi-Wan in love with Anakin in a canon scenario with Anakin married to Padmé.)
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Same Bed - Lola Young
I'm too quick to judge, too fast to fuck If we're lonely and I'm No good in love, 'cause the last time I ended up a little dead inside Sorry I lied, I do not want you, no Sorry my pride's a little too high To let you know I cried when you said you had to go, baby [...] (whispered) Fuck then, don't do this to me now Don't say my name when you're talking to me Don't say we're on the same page Don't look away when you walk into me I like the pain, I like the pain I'm making it hard for you to move on And be lonely 'cause I'm So good with words that the last time I broke his heart [...] I got a bit drunk yesterday evening and I Told you some things I didn't mean, oh did I? Hate it, I hate it when I get complacent I love it when you pull that face and we make mistakes Utterly wasted And wake up in the same bed In the same t-shirt I told you I loved you in The same regrets Like wearing the t-shirt I told you I love you in [...] I only like you when you're naked At least, that's what I proved to myself Can't make a fool of myself, baby God, it's so frustrating, making such a fool of myself Gotta make do with myself, baby I only like you when you're naked At least, that's what I proved to myself You make a fool of myself, baby Let's overcomplicate it, maybe just lose ourselves
Back with the complicated relationship and the angst. Can see this in a canon compliant AU with both Anakin and Obi-Wan not really wanting to admit they are in love with each other, but somehow they always end up sleeping together, and telling the other how much they love them just to regret all of it the day after. Basically making things complicated for no reason other than Obi-Wan not wanting to break the rules/his belief that he's meant for infinite sadness, but also because Anakin can't give up on this twisted love despite how much it hurts him and being petty in trying to make Obi-Wan suffer just as much.
❣🅞🅑🅘🅚🅘🅝❣
❧ Ghost - Harper
Not putting lyrics here because this entire song gives me Obi-Wan on Tatooine post-RotS vibes. Like, he's literally on the planet Anakin came from, there to protect Anakin's kids. OF COURSE he sees Anakin's "ghost". Like, he sees so much of Anakin in Luke when he grows up. And it feels kind of fitting as a punishment for Obi-Wan to be slowly going crazy because he keeps being haunted by this image of Anakin around him. Literally this line: "why you gotta make me weak to make me stronger". That's Obi-Wan trying to get over this love for Anakin and realizing that he has to mourn and suffer before he becomes stronger and able to get free from this ghost's hold. (But, you know, Anakin's ghost might even be actually Anakin, in a scenario where Anakin is actually trapped inside of Vader and trying to get free by reaching out to Obi-Wan for help.)

❧ Qualcosa di Grande - Cesare Cremonini
What happened, you changed You are not the same Or are you still the one That grew up with me What happened, you ran away And with you so did my life I searched for it, I searched for it But I found it only in you There's something important between us That you can never change Not even if you want to But there's something important between us That you can never forget Not even if you want to What happened, you fell You fell too low and now you try to climb back up But it's a struggle you don't want [...] What happened, your light Your light is obscured By someone that I know And that took you away from me What happened, your star Your star eclipsed And now (I dare you to) shine from the darkness without me
Yet another song that gives me RotS feels. It's obviously a break up song, a song about regrets and struggling to move on. So of course in it I see Anakin falling to the Dark Side and Obi-Wan trying to remind him of what is between the two of them so that Anakin comes back to him. (If you want to read the complete translation, you can check it out here.)

❧ Dark Side - Phoebe Ryan
At your worst, you're the best Baby I don't want another version, no Hard to love, hard to trust But don't change Don't be a better person for me 'Cuz I'm in love with your dark side I'm in love with your dark side So don't turn on the light [...] Even if it hurts, I want you heart Even at your worst, I love you hard If you wanna keep me, go too far
Another song that is more of a both!Sith AU but also something Vaderwan would work honestly. I like the twisted nature of this kind of love so much in fics. Can absolutely works with any version of Anakin or/and Obi-Wan being the bad guy in the story.
