The Rick and Morty anime is insufferable

Now, just to be clear, I am NOT making fun of anyone who likes the anime! If you like it, that's great! I'm glad that you are able to like it, everyone has different tastes, and I won't hate on you for liking something that doesn't hurt anyone…butttttt that being said, I am going to be VERY harsh towards the anime, so if you like the anime, this probablyyyy isn't the post for you, now if you want to kindly and respectfully disagree with me, then that's completely fine! Now, for everyone that wants to see me hating on this anime, all of my problems and reasons for disliking it under the cut!

Okkkk first off, I am going to say the things I actually like about it!

I like the art style! It feels weird seeing Morty with a neck lol. I like how they kept his big ass head though. The proportions are a little weird, but I feel like it adds to the charm of it in a way

Guys…I FUCKING LOVE THE THEME SONG OH MY GODDDD! I'm ashamed to admit I like it more than the show's theme song. It's just so fucking good and it always gets me hyped even if I know the episode will be bad!

I really like the fluidity of the Tammy and Space Beth fight scene! Like it was fucking awesome! The way it was animated is really good, it made the 2nd episode my favorite actually even if the 2nd episode is still…still not good.

On that note, I feel like they improved Space Beth's character, I mean I didn't really like her in the show, she kinda just felt like Beth (Ik the point she's mean to be like Beth but shush) with no noticable differences besides being ruder. Her getting with domestic Beth is also weird af so I'm glad they ignored that plotline.

And uhm…uhm…I uh…baby Morty was cute andddddd uh…..well….uh….okay onto the cons!

There's like no humor, and even the like, 2 jokes in the first episode weren't funny (The joke about the galactic federation using sex toys as torture toys for clone Rick came off as more uncomfortable than funny to me) and the joke (I think it was a joke?) about Morty clutching his vr helment and crying about how he'll never find love again in the 2nd episode just made me mad, they turned Morty into some pathetic crying helpless baby, but more on that later. Like ik it's meant to be different from the show, but if you're gonna to make an anime verison of a comedy show…it should be funny..even the jokes they do make just…aren't funny.

Too much fan service, ok, ok, ok, before anyone says anything YES I do know that the original show is no stranger to fan service, like in season 6, yes, they did show Rick in a suit, and yes, they did show Rick with 6 packs, but in the show's defense, if you're a show with 71 episodes so far, it's completely fair to have some fan service, but in 4 episodes, their seems to be too much, I mean they show Rick naked twice in the span of 4 episodes, and Morty constantly calling Rick Grandpa (Even with a Rick that didn't want to be called Grandpa) feels a lot like fan service.

Rick and Morty not interacting, this is a big one for me, Rick and Morty are the heart of the show, their dynamic is a huge part of what makes the show great, I mean the show is literally called RICK AND MORTY but they don't interact at all, they did interact in season 4, but it's literally just a few sentences and that's it. I was hoping they would get their own episode but nope! It should be called Morty and Elle because so far they are the only ones that interact a lot. And hohohoh…don't worry….I was absolutely talk about Elle…now again, with the show, Rick and Morty don't interact every episode, and they don't have to, obviously, but if it's a Rick and Morty show, you should set up their dynamic as soon as possible. Even when you see a little bit of their dynamic, it's really bad…literally the best thing about their dynamic is that Rick loves Morty but is scared to show it, but literally in the first minute where they ACTUALLY interact Rick says "Worst case scenario, I just need a strand of your hair to make a clone" ??? WHAT!? I hate that line soooo much. Rick couldn't handle it if Morty died, but here he doesn't care when Morty's life is in danger??? DID THEY EVEN WATCH THE SHOW?? Did they watch a Rickle In Time??? Where Rick literally SACRIFICED HIMSELF FOR MORTY!? Ughhhh I fucking hate that lineeee.

The tone is off. It lacks the energy the original show has, whether you like or dislike the show, you can't deny that it has an unmistakable energy put into it, even with the worst episode, cough RICKDEPEDENCE SPRAY cough there's still a certain energy to it. Like for example, the energy in Rickfending Your Mort always cheers me up when I'm having a day, hyped me up or makes me happier on a good day, but the anime feels so soulless. It lacks the energy. It just feels so tired if that even makes sense. Maybe it the colors or the voices or something, but it lacks the soul and energy that the original show has, like with the show, you can tell that love was put into it, but with the anime, it feels so bland.

It doesn't have to be a Rick and Morty property, now, if this was just some random sci-fi anime, I probably wouldn't care about it, hell, I probably wouldn't even watch it, and that's the point, I feel like the director knew nobody would watch this if it was a random sci-fi anime, but an easy way to get viewers is to use an already popular sci-fi property, that's where Rick and Morty comes in, it doesn't have anything specific that makes it HAVE to be Rick and Morty, like I know the galactic federation is there, and the infinite universe thing, but other than that, there's not a lot of specifically Rick and Morty things it does, I mean nobody's in character, Rick and Morty's dynamic isn't correct, there's no side characters from the original show, hell, I don't think Rick even makes a portal, I don't think we ever saw his portal gun, it could've just been a normal sci-fi anime, it would've still been bad, but it wouldn't be shitting on a show that means so much to me that I love, it doesn't feel like they wanted to make it out of love for the original show, it feels like they wanted to make a sci-fi anime, and wanted a quick way to gain viewers.

The relationships are built very unnaturally, 3 words, show don't tell, that's the main rule in storytelling, I'm just gonna be honest, the relationships in the anime are the prime example of tell don't show, again sorry for comparing it to the show so much, but I just want to show where it fails where the show succeeds, even if I wasn't comparing it to the show, these are still issues if the show wasn't connected to Rick and Morty, it's not bad just in the context of it being a Rick and Morty show, it's bad in general, good? Good. Ok let's move on, in the show, Rick and Morty's dynamic and them caring about each other is built in a very human and natural way, but in the anime, none of the characters have any chemistry, and, an example being Morty and Elle (Fuck you Elle) they tell us Morty feels comfortable and safe Elle, it tells us that Morty and Elle love each other, but it doesn't show it through their interactions, they feel more like friends when they aren't kissing or anything, Elle also kissed Morty without his consent so fuck you Elle!

It doesn't feel like they watched the show. Along with nobody being in character, besides like, maybe Jerry, it doesn't do anything that makes you feel like they watched the show, it's hard to explain, but for example like with Rick and Morty animatics, you can tell they watched the show, but the anime just doesn't have the feel, humor, characters, or really anything to make you feel like they watched and understood the show. Again, I know it's the anime, it's not going to be exactly the same, but it wouldn't hurt for them to make it clear that they watched the show.

The character assassination. Whew this part is gonna be long, buckle in, I'm only going to talk about Rick and Morty, Elle will have her own section (I hate her so fucking much you have no idea)

Rick and Morty are the worst character assassination in the anime. Not all of the characters were assassinated, but they massacred my boys and I will not stand for that.

Rick isn't likable. I'll just say it right here. Rick is amazingly likable in the show and is actually my favorite character. But in the anime, he's just unlikable. Not only does he casually state that he'll just make a clone of his grandson if he dies, but he's an asshole, not in a lovable way, he's so boring, he lacks the chaotic energy that makes Rick entertaining. The thing is, I think he's actually a nihilist which uhm..isn't interesting to watch. He isn't funny, interesting, complex, he doesn't get called out, he doesn't have character development, he's not pathetic, he's no charismatic, he doesn't seem to have a heart, literally everything I like about the original character is gone. They absolutely massacred him.

Morty…oh nooooo! LOOK AT HOW THEY MASSACRED MY BOY! They literally just make him into a pathetic shivering fragile sensitive baby and that's not who he is. It's pathetic. They also make him into a helpless baby who always need someone to hold their hand, mainly Elle, and that's just not who he is. Sure he needs help at times, and of course he cries sometimes, but he isn't just a helpless crying baby who always needs people to do things for him, they try so hard to make him a cute kid, they call him "Grandpa" so many times, even when long-haired Rick didn't want to call him Grandpa, it's just so unnatural.

I FUCKING HATE ELLE OHHH MY GOOOODDD! She makes the animes feel like a self-insert fanfic. Everyone loves her, everyone trusts her, she's strong, pretty, smart, like COME THE FUCK ON! She is a weird mix between a self-insert and mary-sue. There's nothing wrong with her, she's pretty, people love her, she gives the characters the advice they need, she saved Rick and Morty's lives, she's very important to the story, she's the worst of all worlds, she sucks, I HATE HER! She's so annoying, she's actually infuriating. She turns the show into a self-insert fanfic. Actually ALL of the characters feel like they are from a bad fanfic, but I believe that's totally Elle's fault. FUCK ELLE!

Now, I know I'm really harsh towards the anime, but that's because I love Rick and Morty and I want the anime to be great, and I believe it can be great, and I really hope it improves before the seasons ends!

The Sonic X dub was not as bad as people said it was.

When I see that people hating on Sonic X, they have the number one reason why they hate the show: the English dub by 4kids is what made people hate the show. The 4kids dub of Sonic X is considered by many to be the worst things to have ever happen to the Sonic fandom because the dub had a lot of censorship, whacky voice acting, major plot rewrites, and replacement music. Because of that, people hold it as the reason why people hate Sonic X. However, I grew up with the up since i was six in 2009 and upon rewatch, it still holds up and it was not the unholy entity that people said it was. I am going to give you the reasons why the Sonic X dub is still worth watching despite and looking past the censorship and plot rewrites.

The first thing that made me fell in love with the dub is the wonderful voice acting that the dub has given us to lend the voices of the characters. Jason Griffith was phenominal as both Sonic and Shadow which he distincts himself with both Sonic and Shadow with his voice. Dan Green made Knuckles sounds so belivable compared to the other voice actors for the character. Lisa Ortiz gave Amy Rose the perfect spunk and fiery spirit while also giving her caring and friendly personality. Amy Palant as Tails was the most natural boy sounding voice that make the character sound so youthful and natural at the same time. I know that many people will hate me for this, but Kathleen Delany has to be the perfect choice for Rouge the Bat. She makes Rouge sound so unique and natural despite sounding older. Suzanne Goldish as Chris makes the character sound natural and tolerable for the audience. And finally, the main star of the dub voice cast is Mike Pollock as Dr. Ivo Eggman Robitnik. Pollock gave Eggman the balance of humor, compassion, and devious sides that other voice actors couldn't match. Yet, this is my first reason why I defend the Sonic X dub.

The second reason why I like the dub is the awesome dub opening titled "Gotta Go Fast", with the lyrics written by Norman J Grossfeld and it was sung by Russell Velazquez. The theme song literally captured the spirit of the franchise and the show as a whole. The theme song is peak 2000s pop-punk rock themed music that was coming out from that decade and the song reflected the decade's style.

So in conclusion, the 4kids dub of Sonic X is still a watchable dub if people look past the censorship and plot rewrites that the dub did. Sonic X is still one of the most influential sonic series of all time and the 4kids dub made it popular in the US while it had low ratings in Japan. Please give the dub a chance and look past the censorship to see that it was not bad as people claimed it to be.

Warnings: arguments, but that's basically it I think.

[For the opening scene, we see a woman with messy, black hair and brown eyes. She wears a red sweater, casual leggings, and a black jacket, open. She seems to notice the viewers' presence, addressing us as if we were actually there.]

OLIVIA GUBBERSON: Oh, I almost didn't see you there!

[She chuckles, pulling on the neck of her sweater.]

OLIVIA GUBBERSON: Today we're going to be learning all about friendshi-

[Suddenly, a crash and a yell is heard from the other room. Olivia's expression suddenly changes to one of concern.]

OLIVIA GUBBERSON: Oh no...I'd better go and check that out.

The Mood of Humanz

And here’s the other Gorillaz album I’ve listened to the most. Same deal as the last one, just sort of felt like… talking about how each song makes me feel. Uh I didn’t include the interludes, since they’re just interludes. I also didn’t include any of the Super Deluxe tracks since I’ve only heard most of those once (except Garage Palace which is awesome) and wouldn’t have a ton to say. Read it or don’t, it’s fine with me.

1: Ascension: The beginning of a climactic party or protest concert. Here to hype you the hell up and make you excited and angry and happy.

2: Strobelite: You walked into a party that’s somehow chill and absolutely bumping at the same time. People are friendly and non-judgmental and the dance floor is open and there’s plenty to eat and drink.

3: Saturnz Barz: Feels like a cool, space themed retro video game that was made by someone from a different country that had an incredibly hard life. You don’t know what they’ve gone through from your place of privilege but you respect the hell out of them and what they’ve managed to do.

4: Momentz: Feels like you met a guy who’s way cooler than you to dance and hang around with at a party. He tells you about a one night stand with a girl, but by the end of the night you feel like he’s actually pretty sad and lonely.

5: Submission: This is a weird one, bear with me. This one feels like you’re in a poly relationship with a girl and a guy. You’re constantly depressed out of nowhere. Your girlfriend is sweet and patient and constantly there to support you, and she’s getting worried about your mental health. The guy doesn’t input much, maybe because he’s busy or he has his own demons, until one night when he just snaps and rants at you about how he can’t come to your pity party every day and you need to do something to help yourself. They’re both helpful and unhelpful in their own way.

6: Charger: This one is another tricky one. I think a YouTube comment I found about it sounding like a scene where a supervillain gets their powers describes it better than I ever could. It definitely sounds dark and menacing, but in, like, an awesome way.

7: Andromeda: Not a whole lot to say about this one. Feels like a big dance around a huge neon planet, maybe with some stars on the ceiling. Definitely a sort of “big finale” feeling to a party, or like the biggest budget dance event.

8: Busted and Blue: This one is easy. A bad depressive episode. Like, lay on your floor and stare at the ceiling while wishing you weren’t born, depressed. Feeling like a waste of skin, an irredeemable piece of scum depressed. Your loved ones secretly hate you and have hated you for years, depressed.

9: Carnival: Feels like a scary and kind of intentionally grotesque theme park. There’s stuff to do and games to play, but the guests around you seem nervous and the entertainers are way too into their job, or keep mumbling about how the system is manipulating you.

10: Let Me Out: Things are bad and they’ve gotten worse. They need to change or there won’t be a future for anyone. Some people are screwed just because they’re not part of the ruling race. It ain’t getting better, but you shouldn’t give up.

11: Sex Murder Party: Feels like the middle of a party (duh) but you spot a really ugly argument going on between a couple. One of them is sky high and acting reckless and the other is sitting in the corner, seething. They might do something crazy. You should probably go somewhere else.

12: She’s My Collar: A snapshot of a really sexually satisfying but unhealthy relationship. It���s not good for you, but it’s what you need right now, so you keep your mouth shut and enjoy it.

13: Hallelujah Money: A rich person you really don’t like is on tv somewhere in public, so you can’t turn the tv off. They’re bragging about another accomplishment they don’t deserve, and you have to listen to them. This song is kind of like peeling back the mask and showing exactly what kind of greed and arrogance this person is vomiting out without the veneer of kindness.

14: We Got The Power: A pretty simple motivational song. Feels sort of artificial, which may or may not be the point.

15: The Apprentice: Kind of like watching someone you used to like become cruel and incredibly pompous when they’re offered a fat paycheck. Reminds me of trash streamers.

16: Halfway to The Halfway House: Feels like a splitting headache that suddenly hits you in the middle of a party, so you have to lay down somewhere and ride it out while you watch people around you have fun and get wasted.

17: Out of Body: You’re not really fitting in at the party, until you find a girl that persuades you to try something different and kinda crazy. Drugs? A real satanic ritual? She’s nice and talks you through it but why are her eyes glowing? You have an incredible time, but she disappears after everything is over.

18: Ticker Tape: Getting home from a party and relaxing by yourself. You don’t feel amazing, but you’re content at least. It’s getting cold so you can see your breath on the way home. Peaceful.

19: Circle of Friendz: Throwing empty beer bottles at a brick wall while you and your friends sit around and do nothing. You guys have been friends for ages and can spend time together and get nothing interesting done and still be satisfying. It’s a waste of time, but a pleasant one.

The WIP im gonna talk about is uh. well it doesnt really have a name i just call it "that game i want to finish eventually" or "the survival horror game idea" lol, I'm bad with names so itll prob remain that way for a while

What's the First Part of Your WIP that You Created?

I can't recall exactly when this was, but I remember I was specifically listening to this video which, judging by its age, would've been around 2 years ago now. Something about the black and red blair witch game art used as the cover (which, i... totally legally... played that game out of curiosity later on, wasnt big on it as a blair witch fan or a horror fan in general, but you will see one little element from it as one of a few inspiration points for whats kind of becoming a major mechanic in my game at this point lol) mixed with the music itself gave me this mental image of someone driving on a road through the woods with that very black and red lighting, and i had this feeling that they were looking for someone. That's technically the very vague basis that sprouted into my game idea, which has changed a lot since then, and now I don't think a scene like that will even happen. Aside from that, my first concept that's actually stuck around, is the protag looking for their sibling (usually my brain leans sister so i may go that route, but i tend to imagine characters w/out gender in mind til later lol) and sorta ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time as a result. I have some more stuff in mind of course, but a lot of stuff is still pretty vague lol

If Your Story Was a TV Show, What Would the Theme Song/Intro Be?

Oh man this is such a fun thing to think about conceptually, I feel like the WIP is almost too much of a WIP to be sure... But it'd probably have to feel very 2000s, maybe have some kind of industrial edge? Something to capture the idea of an ordinary person descending into something they couldn't possibly be prepared for i guess loll Those things aren't necessary, but the setting is mainly going to be in this as yet unnamed city during the mid-late 2000s? I haven't settled on the exact year yet so that may not be fully accurate lol. The game probably will get some kind of intro style thing, because I absolutely LOVE that in the silent hill games (and also twilight princess had something like that!! which is very nostaglic for me lol) so I think it would be awesome to do in mine lol I feel like the closest I've heard to the vibe I imagine are like. 1. Into to The Mine from Lost in Vivo 2. Broken ALSO from Lost in Vivo (i swear something abt the music in this game just has the vibes) 3. Theme Of... by Drackfreeee I guess it makes sense because it's a silent hill inspired song that you can even hear bits from the game's intros in there but. man. it's got a dreamlike quality that fits the more surreal elements i have in mind well, plus i can totally imagine it playing in an intro thing showing a bunch of scenes from the game and setting that scene of descent When i get to that point in making the game, ill probably look back at songs like these for ideas on what'll work

What Are Your Favourite Characters You Made, and Why?

Since this thing is still so much a WIP, I don't have a tonnn figured out about the characters, so it's kinda hard to pick. But I can talk a little about what I DO have figured out! As I said previously, the protag is gonna be looking for their sibling. The basic idea being that they're visiting their sibling in this new city they've never been to before, and things go all wacky sideways real fast. I feel like I'm either gonna love 'em or hate 'em because due to the unintentionally personal nature of this story that I've been embracing more as time went on, they're probably gonna be the most like me out of the cast. I'm hoping to make them an enjoyable protagonist to play as tho, not annoying but not TOO bland or anything. The sibling is probably gonna end up reflecting a lot of my sister, cause, as i said, accidentally personal story that I'm kinda just embracing at this point lol. I wanna not make any of the characters 100% like a single person I know, so I'll probably mix in traits from other people I like lmaooo. but we'll see what they're like by the end. One thing i already DO know is I really wanna circumvent the idea of the person you're trying to find/save being this "damsel in distress" type, so I think it'd be great if when you finally reunite, they're dealing with the whole situation way better than you LMAO. or at least on par. The hardest part about that tho... Is I'll probably have to make a half-decently competent partner NPC for that part of the game... I've also had this idea for a guy based on a dream I had. I think they will be playing a part but I'm not sure yet, as stuff is still very vague at this point. The idea is of someone who is "helping" you for part of the game, only to fuck you over later on because, what can I say, I love the heartbreak of getting totally screwed over by a character you trusted sometimes :3 The idea being you'd make remote contact early on and they'd promise to help lead you to your sibling but in reality either A) they've just been trying to lead you to your death subtly lmaooo or B) more likely option, theyre tricking you into helping them instead, and then will leave you for dead once you actually help them. I feel like it'd be fun to write a guy who is a total opportunist and probably a smug asshole, idk lol There will probably be other characters? but these are the only ones I have in mind so far, and as you can tell, they arent very fleshed out at all yet

What Other Pieces of Media do You Think Your Fanbase Would Share?

Jeez, the idea of garnering any kind of fanbase in and of itself is kind of cool but scary lol I figure they'd probably like a lot of the stuff that's inspiring me in the first place, like Silent Hill (duh), Cry of Fear, Jacob's Ladder, a bit o' Twin Peaks... Basically if you like some guy going through some weird fuckin' psychological shit lmaoo More specifically, i want the vibes of stuff like. standing in a subway station at a weird hour, feeling like the only person left on the planet. Opening a door into a room that shouldn't logically connect. Cryptic phone calls and texts that don't seem like a person would make them. Desperately trying to reach someone, to find the answers, but it seems like the place itself is fighting against you. Stuff like that, I guess

What Has Been Your Biggest Struggle With Your WIP?

Man, what hasn't? I don't have much experience making games so I'm learning a lot mechanically as I go, but I also have never properly finished an entire original story before. I think the main thing, is like... I'm scared whatever I create will feel too derivative of the works that inspired me, that the thing I create will ultimately fade into the shadow of other things that did it better. So every time I have a new idea, I worry about if it'll come off too much like [x thing] and that's been making the process even slower loll Aside from that, I know the character's primary goal, and I have certain locations I think would be cool to include, but I don't know SHIT about any of the details of getting from the start to the end and what will fall in-between, which does make it tricky lol. I need to really consider what kind of path I want them to follow, and what will happen after they reach their goal, stuff like that. It's all just very vague right now and trying to work out the details is almost intimidating even tho thats the main part of making a story.

Are There any Animals in Your Story? Talk About Them!

At the moment? Not that I'm aware of. There may likely be enemies with animal-like appearances, though. I could see that being a thing I do. But I haven't really gotten into monster design just yet.

How do Your Characters Travel/Get Around?

At the moment I'm suspecting primarily on foot, however my concept for the intro of the game involves the protag taking the subway. So there may be some subway shenanigans too, idk.

What Part of Your WIP Are You Working on Right Now?

I'd say the main reason the story is still so vague, is I've been trying to get the main technical/mechanical elements set up before I get too much into the details. Or maybe I'm just stalling. So, I'd say I'm mainly working on stuff surrounding the non-story parts of the game. But in terms of the story, I want to flesh out the protag and the sibling more into proper characters first and foremost, I'd say.

What Aspects (Tropes, Maybe?) do You Think Will Draw Your Audience in?

I'll be real I got no idea but... I guess if I think about it from the perspective of what I think would draw me in from an outside view...

Use of classic survival horror stuff like fixed camera angles (plus I'm going to have both tank and analog controls so more people can enjoy it :])

Putting a guy in A Situation

The general atmosphere and setting (as I sorta said, mid-late 2000s urban enviro with weird illogical stuff happening and potentially kind of dream-like elements, i hesitate to say liminal but maybe a bit liminal? I also want to go for a ps2-ish graphics quality cause i feel like its criminally underrated lol and some people may feel like me on that part and like that)

Vaguely queer protag? like i said i dont have much fleshed out but if they're gonna be based on me at all u KNOW that bitch aint gonna feel cis or straight i'm sorry it's simply fact (also admittedly I've been wanting to make them like some kinda genderqueer or somethin because its my video game and i can do what i want, and seeing human protags that are nonbinary in some way gives me life)

What Are Your Hopes For Your WIP?

Honestly I just hope I make something that I feel proud of. I wanna make something that makes someone feel the same way that stuff like Silent Hill, Cry of Fear, Lost in Vivo, Twilight Princess, hell, UNDERTALE did, where that shit changes you. Where you can feel the love for the genre or medium it's based upon. But at the very least, I just hope at least one person likes it, I guess That'd be enough for me

I beat Splatoon 3: Side Order

I hate Splatoon multiplayer. I'm not great at it, and it gets me very heated, so I essentially avoid it after the first couple months, I make myself a character, all good to go.

I LOVE Splatoon singleplayer. So so so so so so much. Splatoon is essentially a singleplayer experience for me, and I am ok and content with that. I also love roguelikes! So when the DLC is a roguelike (with best idols as the feature), it's peak. Ignore the fact it took me a while to beat it that's how ADHD works. Anyways, I have a format that I think I've made now, so I'm going to do said format

Gameplay

Roguelike :)))))) I love these! I already said this! There's not much to say other than it certainly is a tower where I get more upgrades and create silly broken builds and I love that! Drone and Lucky Combo was my favorite cause I could just make inkstrike and special and bomb spam and nobody could stand a chance against me, it was super fun. Roller was my favorite weapon for this reason too (I also beat the tower with roller first so that might be part of it). The game def takes a few runs to really get going but like, I can't hold that against it?? That's what the genre is. You start to unlock shit and it starts to ramp up and that's the fun. I got frustrated at times on certain levels, and especially the rigorous ones on earlier runs get very very exhausting (I had to take a lot of breathers cause my hands would get sore), but that's not really like... a bad thing. I expect this genre to make me work. When I was going through with all of the different weapons, it was nice that each felt different enough, especially with the color biases, to make each run for 100% fresh (HA) feeling.

Murch was NOT cooking with his loadout though how the fuck does that dude play irl it took me so much fire speed up chips and changing his whole loadout to make that feel ANY good

Characters

Pearl and Marina :)))))))) They're my favorite idols. They're the best ones. I get more of them and even more Marina backstory and I'm not upset about it. Dedf1sh/Acht was a really cool addition and I'm glad they're expanding on characters that were previously just musicians. I found their whole shtick of "Thank god you're here Eight otherwise these two might just start making out in front of me and I can't handle that". It was funny. Order was a very cool force, and even as Smollusk with his stwupid wittle baby voice (DISCLAIMER: I ENJOYED IT) was a neat little character, just a program doing what it's supposed to do.

Story

The best part of this DLC's story is its worldbuilding and continuity from the last DLC expansion from 2. Seeing them acknowledge the Octoling society exodus, AND all of the sanitized people??? That's super cool! Marina showing off more of the skill they talk about constantly with her creating this whole program and working to fight against it is awesome. I appreciate how they tied the gameplay being constant runs into the story, each complete run giving you more and more details on what created Order, why everything is the way it is. Of course, that is also what makes it a little frustrating at the start, because you want to see the story but you have to play the game more to really get it going. It's what happens, so like, whatever, but I do wish for the story's sake alone I could have sped my progress up A LITTLE (the solution is to git gud).

Music

It's fucking Splatoon. Of course the music is peak. I loved the empty sounding songs, the evil printer techno, the super hype club beats while you are dying, it's hype! My favorite song was Parallel Canon :)

Everything Else

Part of the reason I love Splatoon is the ocean theming, I love sea creatures. I thought it was really cool how they made irl dying coral reefs into the theme, combining it with the digital and technology aspect of grayscaling, it's such a cool combination of theming that only Splatoon can do. Speaking of, the attention to detail in this DLC (and really the series as a whole) is INCREDIBLE. The app icons, the programs Marina using being actually recognizable as real programs, the demonstrations showing off character with the silly little anime eyes, there's just so much to look at in every point. The text and writing has also always been a strength of Splatoon, and Side Order just continues to deliver. I loved all the enemy names being musical terms, the puns are always great, the extra dialogue in the menus as you unlock and kill enemies, and even Overlorder's title changing as you do more runs??? It's so cool and it all gives you more motivation to continue to play more. This game is a charming joy with one of the most unique settings I've seen, and the DLC just gives me more of what I love.

10/10. Continued supply of Splatoon and Roguelike goodness with a jelle-ton of charm (I'm funny!)

vincent and the doctor <3 it's just such a warm aesthetic and it has a lot of what i love about doctor who. curtis' writing is just so great and i think the whole last act is just wonderful. it's also got some gorgeous visuals.

oh man. rose tyler has so many great moments but i love her monologue in the s1 finale where she says "it was a better life and i don't mean aliens and spaceships and stuff that don't matter. the doctor showed me a better way of living your life. you don't just give u;. that you don't just let things happen. you make a stand you say no!! you have the guts to do what's right when everyone else just runs away and i can't --" all of that was from memory btw that's how much i luv her. and that's the ep she becomes the bad wolf so it's great for that reason too!

Best episode/scene for my favorite ship

ohhhh man. im pretty obsessed with nine's regeneration scene for him and rose, and i really love tenrose's last scene in end of time it's so gorgeous. and as sad as it is, doomsday is really a great episode for doctorrose.

so martha doesn't really count since she's for real a main character but.... human nature/family of blood is a GREAT storyline for her

Doesn't think highly of herself, is actually pretty insecure and in middle school, despite hating Zoey she felt so oddly envious of her. Everything she had. Zoey - she also got into Olivia rodrigo lately and constantly talk abt how raw,real and girlbossy her music is while also kindaaa missing the point and emotional meaning of some of her songs. her family always make her feel extremely out of control and hopeless and theyre pretty abusive but zoey doesnt have the right language to explain it and she calls herself girlboss, puts herself above everyone else, cares a ton about her status and wants to be both loves and feared and even goes so far as to cheat on her cuz she has a messed up idea of what actual love is - and that is the way she gains control and the feeling of love, which she has a superficial idea of. and she feels Lesser at home but makes up for it at school. shes obviously popular but most people are just genuinely afraid of what shed do if they opposed her or if she didnt like them. though she still upholds a pretty great reputation and has many friends that love her and treat her like a goddess, at least thats what she thinks. might have NPD? but she aint diagnosed w anything. genuinely cares abt people and loves them but doesnt really Know.? extremely rambly post dawntrail thoughts. mega spoilers. I sound like such a hater, but i promise i'm not <3

90-95(ish)

For the most part I enjoyed the beginning half of the expansion, in all honesty there were (many) times that it all felt a bit naive and twee, someone referred to it as feeling a bit like an afterschool special and I couldn't agree more. For an expansion coming of the back of Endwalker and how it engaged with difficult subject matter in (in my opinion) a very thoughtful and meaningful way, Dawntrail felt a bit shallow in comparison. Which would not be a problem, I am in no way saying every expac has to have the same depth and Endwalker (far from it, that would be exhausting), but Dawntrail constantly feels like it's trying so very hard to be deep. A message is all well and good, but please don't expect me to be impressed with "don't hurt others ^_^ ever. ^_^" I realize also that the vibe was very likely exentuated to be 'subverted' (not really) in the second half of the story, but that didn't stop it from feeling patronizing and trite for the first chunk. I realize this sounds soo hatery and I really did enjoy the story, going into it i expected a lighter 'fun-adventure' vibe which we definitely got, However (😖) i thinkk the writing team is coming up against the one piece problem, mainly, there are too many characters and they don't know what to do with them. Frankly, it feels extremely weird to have the scions parsled out piece by piece into the msq, I realize in order to tell more stories other characters need to be introduced, which in turn can make the characters we know redundant. But, having estinien show up for literally what feels like about 5 total minutes of the expansion is baffling. Personally, I think the solution to this is more character moments, we got a couple with wuk lamat and company, but to me some of the best moments in endwalker were when we just get to hang out with our buddies, something like that could have gone a looong way for me to feel like they were actually part of the story. honestly, even having G'raha just be on continent would have been something, just have him bum around the city i don't know.. let me get skewers with estinien, let me go tidepooling with urianger, little character moments go a long way for making a story feel lived in, and i think dawntrail was slightly lacking in that regard. In the final cutscene erenville says the whole city partied for 3 days and 3 nights, let me go! let me get wine-drunk with y'shtola and have a taco eating contest with Alisaie. there was even a perfect break built in before the dawnservant ceremony, let me hang out with my pixelated friendsss orz...

In terms of the second half of the expansion, I enjoyed it as well, the general consensus seems to be that the second half is the stronger one, and I don't think I disagree. The theming is cool (r.i.p. to the people that hated the recent pvp gear...) and I'm glad soken has started to embrace his gift for making incredible techno music. But on the topic of music... what the hell is that theme man. I love ffxiv music, truly truly I do but, I cannot come up with anything but 'bad' to describe that fucking song. I've heard it described as disney, and like a song from a political ralley, i'll dare to combine the two and say it sounds like disney produced the campaign song for kamala harris 2028. When it first crops up during the coronation ceremony i was like "wow thats not good at all.." but during the train montage it literally made me laugh out loud, and during the ending credits i was just kinda bummed. The expansion theme itself (from the trailer) is fucking awesome though, no notes 👌

gulool ja- I truly truly adore him, i don't care if he's a marketable moeblob, that's my baby nephew, I do however have some thoughts.. First of all, I was honestly hoping for a failed/discarded clone reveal, personally that makes more sense to me considering Alexandria's technology instead of some random Mamool Ja woman also being stuck there deciding to bone down on zoraal ja, unless he can do asexual reproduction, in which case, slay. But I think a clone angle could have been an interesting entry point on a discussion of nature vs nurture, would zoraal ja raised away from the burden of expectation of the miracle son grow into the despot that he did? I do think it was insane that he just, stayed the boy king, literally a terrible idea considering it's heavily implied the burden of his father's legacy is what caused zoraal ja to break bad but okay... AND he shoulda moved to tural and gotten to play with the other mamool ja kids dammit 😣

the issue of Zoraal Ja- For all the knowledge we have he was ostensibly raised with a loving family, gulool ja ja seemed to be a good father on most if not all accounts, so why did Zoraal ja turn out like he did? was it an instance of that slimy advisor dude raising him like namikka did for wuk lamat? I think in general Zoraal ja wasn't afforded a lot of grace as a character, and generally treated as pretty wholly evil until his death-floor speech. I, personally don't find that very compelling, or even that it makes much sense. You never get an insight really as to *Why* he's doing what he's doing, 'he wants to surpass his father' ok, but why is world domination the only way he can think to do so? I had thought for a bit near the beginning of the expac that he'd have a similar character to Koana, on that while he may be outwardly cold towards his siblings, he'd still love and care for them, but those thoughts went out the window after the cook-off. I think he was underdeveloped and could have used a little more consideration when creating his motivation and personality. Or at least more of a backstory, a lot of Koana's personal beliefs were formed by his studying in sharlayan, did zoraal ja have a similar experience that shaped his worldview? give me something... anything...

I have heard a lot of criticism surrounding the villain of the expac (store brand metion) a lot of which I think is fair, but whats kind of funny to me is seemingly she didn't really do anything too heinous in my opinion... Sure, she participated in the initial invasion of tural, but that was absolutely gonna happen anyway, and her grand fusion plan didn't work (as near as I can tell) in the end anyway. I saw someone pissed that she got 'redeemed' but honestly, I don't think she had anything she needed to been redeemed for. In terms of her motivation, I personally found her interesting, But, I also realize that I find her interesting because of how I characterize my wol, instead of how she's actually written, so I don't think that can be used in her favor (sorry sphene, I don't think it should be a requirement to have 30k+ words of oc lore to enjoy a villain) But she really did feel like a knock-off metion, which really only was to her detriment. I think the expac hot of the heels of Endwalker (my favorite expac) should be doing all it can to avoid direct comparison between the two, and Sphene as a whole invites that.

but it was goood, right now I'd rank it at a solid #3

18: Most traumatic experience

hmm,, maybe just the entirety of year 9? i became the laughing stock of not only my class but my entire year, bullying was ramped up to an 11 and my only friends regularly hit me lol. i went into a bit of s slump, didn't talk to anyone. i was lowkey emo for a while (plus i was obsessed with the "help" animatic on youtube skfjdkjf). it was straight out of lockdown and i spent like every day not wanting to be in school even though i like learning. but! i got moved out of my sucky class into one with my friend (the one who did most of the hitting, but hey what can ya do) and after that year everyone matured a lot & people seem to like me now?? perks of being inoffensive and polite ig :]. i still have a few habits from back then, like closing off around people my age and resorting to stilted monotone answers, or feeling a little anxious when people other than my close family brush my hair, but i've gotten a lot better since then! it was less "traumatic" and moreso unpleasant, i have a tendency to overdramatise stuff :"). my life just hasn't been all that traumatising. i have a lovely family, a school piano, and most of my overachieving is solely my fault soooo,,,,,

20: What I hate most about myself

there are a couple of things. i don't like how oversensitive & clingy i can be, or how attention-seeking. i want to help people but sometimes that means i don't know when to back off a little. i wind people up when i'm bored to get a reaction. and i'm absolutely terrible at holding my ground around people my own age. i give people sheets of paper from my notebooks & let them borrow my highlighters, i'm nice to the people who used to make fun of me relentlessly, i'm not good at telling people to back off when i feel uncomfortable, i act like i'm superior just because adults tend to like me. it's not great skdjksjd

23: My relationship with my sibling(s)

i'd say it's really good!! my youngest sister trusts me a lot & i read to her regularly, i don't really get her miraculous gacha craze but she is so incredibly smart & i'm really proud of her. she's sweet when she wants to be and i love her to bits and a lot of the bumps in the road are things she'll grow out of when she's older :). there's also my other younger sister!!! we have spent our entire childhood together, and i wouldn't change a single thing about her. she's hilarious and creative and gifted and i have spent countless hours having fun with her. she can be a little closed-off at times and often considers me an embarrassment, but i love her an insane amount too!! and then there's the lovely jpr!! we've gotten really close over the past few years. she's actually the one who introduced me to ao3 while we were washing plates at a caravan site together! i owe a huge part of my life to her & it's been so awesome over the years having someone to write and chat with :)). we watch kids shows unironically and have a chronic au addiction. ily red <33 can't wait to do that omori cosplay at a theme park together next time u come over and try not to lose my wig on the rollercoasters <333

great!!! they both care about & support me a lot. they've always got good advice and want what's best for me. sometimes they can be a bit shouty and angry when in a bad mood & there is a lotttt of pressure on me to do well but it's all good! we have awesome family holidays together & i love them both a lot. my dad can be very silly, he likes star wars and terrible jokes and repetitive dj music and toblerone chocolate. and my mum is realllyyy organised, idk how she manages it! she likes cats and potato rosti and the colour blue and shania twain songs. they're the most hardworking & intelligent people i know <3

relistening to it, the very first song fucks SO HARD!!!! esp the part where he's trying to argue with the GOD!! and then the next song where he's singing to the infant?????? also I love the song where hes singing with athena and he calles her a badass in the arena, and also the way Athena sings a warrior of the mind!!! also polites and his song?? the cyclops part also is awesome (he just says 'hey there?????") because the cyclops was the first tbit of the odyssey that I read, and I still love it to this day.

all of the cyclops's lines are so good!!!! I love the part in 'survive' when he's killing all he men and the swoop of the music representing his club and odysseus's men are calling out to him.

also the little voices convincing the men to open the bag of winds !!!!and penelope's little musical score is so good!! i love the notes on it!!!

the last song is also so good!!! i love that he ties in lines and themes from the first song into the last one! like the parts wth penelope and telemachus!!!!

"Just a Man" is the second song where he's talking to the infant, and I really want to listen to that and then immediately go into "Monster"(the last song released so far, the finale of Act 1 and the end of the Underworld Saga) I think it could be so cool and also heart wrenching cause it's his intro as a character being im literally just a guy I'm normal and I'm kinda scared if I keep doing this stuff I might be a bad person and I won't know where the line is, AND THEN him DECIDING to be a monster. To turn into a bad person. To be ruthless because ruthlessness is mercy upon the self. Seriously this whole musical so far seems to be telling a very scary message: You have to be ruthless. You can't trust people, whether they are strangers or your own crew, and especially not the gods. I think that can be such a fun message in fiction but I don't think it is a helpful message to be telling to the world right now as a piece of media that people will be consuming and processing and I can't wait and am so scared and so looking forward to the rest of it. I want to listen to act 2. I want to know if the message is going to turn around and show a recovery arc or if Odysseus is just going to be a war hardened traumatized human who believes he needs to be a monster to survive forever. Wow I did not mean to go on that rant

What I actually meant to talk about was how as a character Odysseus' vibe is so crazy cause he's so smart but he's so fucking dumb. Like he will trap the winds of the storm after they've been released to save for another day and then escape from fucking posiden in the middle of the sea but also he's gonna go tell the cyclops he just blinded where to find his family. Like what the fuck that's so stupid. Don't do that. He's just such an overconfident dudebro sometimes. I fuck with it. I would totally hate his guts in real life.

I think the first time I listened Polites was my favorite character, but Eurylochus has grown on me so much. It's also so cool how next to Polites Odysseus seems crazy cautious but next to Eurylochus he seems reckless and wild.

As someone who loves everything caked in glitter and vibrant colors, Rainbow Highs plot of "kids go to a sleek white highschool with no magical or whimsical elements whatsoever" was never interesting to me. That's not really a criticism, this really is just a prime example of It's Not Made For Me. It's also nice to have a doll line more based in reality with realistic clothes, as opposed to a high-concept line like, say, Monster High.

That being said, this is MY POST, and I always wanted Rainbow High to start leaning into fantasy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rainbow High is such a RIPE name concept for some magical costumey dolls and vibrant fantasy theming!!!

So imagine my surprise when Rainbow High starts rolling out ~A Whole New Rebrand~ with a new plotline and magic and a colorful rainbow world that the characters visit via heretofore unseen magic portals that just exist now apparently. It's Fucking Awesome

Even though it's a whole new plot and (technically) a new school, it is DECIDEDLY NOT a reboot. It's not a whole new series, it's season 5 of the original show. Idk what that's about but I kind of like it. I think the Rainbow High show should just go on forever, no matter what reboots or changes they make. Seeing them take the neck-breaking turn from standard highschool drama to Magic Is Real And Also Its A Musical Now is so funny. (Also, it's a musical now. The songs are really, really not great. But I like the idea)

But the monkeys paw has definitely curled. I asked for more colors and whimsy, and Rainbow High was like "Okay, the show will lean more towards that!

But we're also gonna remove the wrist articulation, slather the dolls faces in thick chunky glitter, and also make the worst Amaya you have ever fucking seen". Seriously I'm sorry but I hate every aspect of this little lady ..... the DRESS

Even the show models have the face glitter. I seriously despise it, I think it looks So Bad. It's like they're greasy 24/7, i can't stand it. Sunny looks okay with it tho
