Chloe rolled the egg back up in its wrappings and handed it to Nadine. “Guard this, babe.”

Nadine’s mouth twitched into a shy smile. “With my life.”

“C’mon, you’re worth a lot more than that thing…guard it up to the point of seriously maiming, that sounds about right.” Chloe playfully tapped Nadine on the shoulder with her fist.

Wait a minute…

Georgia’s eyes darted back and forth between them, she wouldn’t be surprised if the others could actually hear the cogs turning in her brain.

Is there a little something between those 2? Why hadn’t I noticed before?

Sam interrupted her reverie. “So we’re agreed? In the morning, after we’re all caffeinated, we’ve gotta figure out a plan to deal with Volkova, and where the Romanov egg leads us to next. Which, let’s face it, is probably St. Petersburg.”

“Sounds good to me. Alright, campers. Bedtime!” Chloe announced, clapping her palms together. “Let’s try and get a few hours at least or we’ll be no good for anything.”

Cutter started at the noise, already looking like he was dozing off while sitting at the table.

“Wait, wait wait. What are we doin’ here?” Sam asked.

“Whatever do you mean, oh smokey one?”

“Well, uh-“ Sam’s eyes flicked to Georgia. “What’s the situation?”

Chloe gave him an exasperated look. “Girls in one room, boys in another. Same as we’ve been doing so far.”

When he answered, Sam sounded as if Chloe had just told him she was confiscating his cigarettes, but managed to keep up the bravado, just barely. “Yeah, sure. Makes sense I guess…”

“Ja, as much as I like you, Cutter-“ Nadine started. “I’m not sharing a bed with you so Drake can…do his thing. I’d rather sleep on the floor. Outside. In the hall. Maybe even on the roof, in the snow, hey?”

God, this is embarrassing. Why’d Sam have to bring that up? Nobody even checked I was ok with the “situation”. I mean, I’m fine sharing a bed with 2 other women…that I barely know…that seem to have a thing going on…bloody hell, as if Chloe needed another reason to wish I wasn’t here…now Nadine will wish for the same…

“Yeah, scram. If you really must hang out of the window to have a smoke, please don’t fall. One casualty per job is more than enough.” Chloe bundled the two men out of the door with a hurried “G’night!”. Georgia tried to at least wave at Sam and Cutter as they left, but they didn’t see her.

I’m not going to be alone with him anytime soon. She was reaching the point where she just really wanted to be held. Screw that, needed it. Needed everything else to go away just for a few moments. Sam was good at that. She didn’t even know how to begin processing everything that had happened since she left Venice.

As soon as the door was shut Chloe turned to Georgia. “Right. Tell me you’ve got a spare toothbrush hidden inside one of those pockets in your jeans?”

A few minutes later, Nadine and Georgia were sitting on the bed, and so far neither of them had said a word to the other since Sam and Cutter had left. She wondered what Sam was doing, probably fast asleep already. Lucky bugger.

Chloe was in the bathroom, running the shower. Georgia could hear her humming a tune from through the door. She swayed, unsure what to do. Should she just get under the covers, or what? She wanted to make sure Nadine would be in the middle. Nadine, who had taken her scrunchie out and was teasing her hair from the shape it had been stuck in all day, piece by piece. It was hypnotic.

Screw it, I’m asking, I can’t take much more of this.

“Nadine?”

She looked around at Georgia, busy hands pausing for a moment. “Ja?”

“Chloe hates me, doesn’t she?” It seemed terribly schoolgirl of her to say so, but Georgia needed to let it out.

Nadine sighed, and set her scrunchie down on the bedside table, pondering her answer. “She doesn’t hate you, but she is a bit of a prick. Actually, she’s a massive prick. You’re new, unfamiliar. And she’d never say it out loud, but she’s very protective of the Drake brothers. God knows why.”

“She thinks I’ll hurt Sam?”

“She just doesn’t know if she can trust you yet. Best to err on the side of caution these days. We’ve been burned before, both of us. We’re even more careful now.”

“And what do you think of me?” She hoped Nadine would just give her a straight answer, no bullshit.

Nadine’s eyes softened. “You’re alright. You’re smart, I’ll give you that. And you’ve complained a lot less than I thought you would. I’m actually judging you for something else entirely.”

“What’s that?”

“I still can’t believe you slept with Sam Drake. I mean, what were you thinking?”

Georgia stomach dropped before she saw the corners of Nadine’s eyes crinkle and they both smiled, laughing nervously. The South African was tough as hell, but the moments where she broke character and the tough façade fell away made her so likeable.

“I don’t know, really. I just- yeah. It just happened.” She tripped over her answer.

“We all make mistakes. Speaking of which, you…uhm-“ Nadine looked distinctly uncomfortable. “You were careful, right?”

“…eh?”

“You…aw, hell-“ she coughed. “Shit, Chapman, don’t make me spell it out!”

The penny dropped. “Oh, right! God no, I mean yes! Yes, I was careful. Very careful.”

Christ on a bike, does everyone need to know everything I get up to?!

“Alright.” Nadine looked relieved. “Well done.”

In a way it was nice, that she cared enough to ask. Georgia looked at her from under her eyelashes, Nadine was busy with her hair again, before popping the million-dollar question.

“So how do I get Chloe to like me?”

Nadine didn’t seem annoyed, thankfully. “Just give her time. She isn’t going to come around to you overnight. Took me a good long while.”

Not the most helpful.

“It’s just-“ Nadine tried to find the words. “Okay, here it is. It’s honestly hard to watch someone who didn’t have to lead this life, who actually has it pretty good at home, get caught up in all this. You’re not running away from anything. There’s consequences to living the way we do. A price to pay.”

“A price?” Georgia’s forehead wrinkled in confusion.

“If you don’t know what your price is yet, I daresay you’ll find out soon enough.”

Georgia wondered what Nadine’s price had been. And how all of them, Chloe especially, bought it from her. The 2 women couldn’t hide that there was something between them, something more than friendship or a business deal.

How come its alright for them to mix business and pleasure and not for me?

“So, you’re a librarian, hey?”

“In training. I’m doing my dissertation.”

“Shit, you’re that young?” Nadine’s eyes widened. “I might be having a word with Sam after all…”

“Is a word slang for threats of violence?”

Nadine smiled. “For him, most of the time, yes. My house, my rules.”

House…home…shit, my parents…

“Shit! I, ah-…look, my phones gone, but my parents, I need to call home-“

“We’ll sort it out in the morning. I’ll make sure you can contact them, Chapman. Don’t worry about it.” Nadine’s eyes were warm. “I won’t hold it against you that your family isn’t completely messed up.”

She breathed a sigh of relief, nodding. “Yes, I get the feeling I’m the odd one out here.”

“It’s not something we have to worry about usually, checking in with parents.”

“I know-“

They became aware the humming from behind the bathroom door had stopped and Chloe emerged abruptly in a cloud of steam.

She looked back and forth between them, sitting closer together than when she’d left. “What are you 2 chatting about?”

“The stock market.” Nadine covered for them both, not even looking at Georgia. “Dipped again today.”

“O-kay? Want me to leave the light on so you can read more of that textbook?”’

“Nah, I’m good. Tired.”

“Well, at least it’ll be warmer tonight. Trust Cutter to get a hotel whose heating switches off after 11 in winter. Oh yes-“ she turned to look at Georgia. “It’s going to get even colder in here. Are you the big spoon or the little one?”

Although it was warm, it was quiet. Too quiet, Georgia was even trying to breathe without making too much noise. All of them still awake.

It was a funny situation, she had to admit. The 3 of them in the same bed and nobody knew what to do with themselves apart from lie there rigidly. It was bizarre, like they’d been thrown into the plot of a film poorly written by men.

“Are we in Sam’s dream?” Georgia blurted out in the darkness, trying to break the uncomfortable silence.

Nadine let out a single ”ha!” and Georgia could have sworn that under it she heard Chloe snort quietly. Some of the tension left her body.

Better than nothing.

Oh jee, okay I will share my opinion, may I highlight for those who are ready to come at me with pitchforks, my personal opinion.

First of all, I don’t ‘hate’ tlou2. I don’t go out of my way dedicating my life to talk about how much I dislike it, let’s just get that clear lol. TGA was the peak of me talking about it because I don’t think it deserved the awards. Other than that, I have no interest to discuss it, frankly, I’d be fine if we collectively forgot it exists.

Now for why I dislike it (to note: I didn’t play tlou2 myself, watched it on YouTube, which ofc now makes my opinion irrelevant, right? lol). I should point out that I am not exactly a fan of the original game either. I thought it was okay and I could understand the appeal of a father-daughter dynamic, however, I found the story to be quite mediocre (relying on shock value ofc) and the gameplay to be kind of boring and not my thing. The characters were good though.

Tlou2 has gone in a similar fashion, except Neil Dickman seems to have gotten cockier and decided oh yeah, let’s add more shock value, that’s good writing! It isn’t. You may disagree, but there’s nothing revolutionary about the writing. And the whole ending with no payoff made the entire game kind of pointless, I think a lot of people talked about it and I have to agree with them. I think the story is wack, let’s just leave it at that.

Also, I think a lot of us can agree that what made Tlou1 good was the two protagonists. And that’s what tlou2 absolutely ruined. Dickman gets told he’s ‘brave’ because of it, but I don’t see how. Making false faked trailers and killing off your main character in the beginning of the game, then forcing you to play as his killer, I guess is one hell of a move. But I can’t blame people for being really mad about it. That wasn’t needed. The story could’ve been done a million different ways and much better.

Gameplay. I personally think it’s outdated for a 2020 game. Apparently has the stupidest AI as well. If you’re a fan of such gameplay, by all means, glad you enjoy it. I personally don’t and the fact that they didn’t even improve it is a red flag for me.

The rest of my disliking goes to ND and its treatment of employees, which I won’t get into, there’s plenty of articles you can find on google about it, plus Neil Dickman being, well, as I changed his last name, a dick. I genuinely can’t believe the man put himself as an easter egg in his own game... But anyway, I despise him and his massive ego and the way he handles things. Despite enjoying Uncharted 4 for the most part, when Dickman took over, you can tell how different the story is. Shock value, way more drama than the games had before, but as this isn’t about U4, I won’t get into that. I simply don’t think he deserves the praise. His writing is cheap in my opinion.

Finally, a lot of the fans really irk me. They’re so blindly obsessed with ND like it’s a god or something that they can’t even take a step back and realize the game is not in fact perfect. And ND isn’t your friend. If you enjoyed it, that’s fine. But there are a lot of people, and i’m not talking about trolls or whatever, who didn’t like it and there’s many reasons for it that are very understandable. And it doesn’t involve Abby, Joel dying or Ellie being gay or anything. But this is internet after all, so I guess no surprise that both sides have people who get worked up about it in worst ways possible.

That about covers it, I probably am forgetting some bits, but yeah. I don’t hate the game as I said. But I think from all the nominees in TGA, it deserved the awards the least.

can you tell facts about yourself? reading your tags make me curious

this ask has been in my ask box for quite some time now, sorry. I don't know what kind of facts you expect but since I'm deep in my gaming mood with the blizzcon i guess I'll just share with you some gaming facts (mostly):

- I never played Mass Effect as F!Shep. I know that it's the version that is considered Canon within the ME community (and I respect it) but -bless Jennifer Hale nevertheless- to me the only default Shepard will always be its male version. And I swear it's not because of the Shakarian bromance.

- I hate Nintendo and I just want it to disappear and burn in hell, like Disney. And I hate myself even more for buying their consoles for my sister and some of their games (okay that's only Fire Emblem and a few Mario games but it pains me to even give them 1€, they fucking don't deserve it).

- While I always scream about how much I love Hien in FF XIV, my fave character is and will forever be Alphinaud. My dear son.

- I have a lot of controversial opinions, like Dead Space 3 and Resident 6 are two of my favorite games. Or the DmC reboot was a good game.

- I own more than 1000 games,if not a lot more. But I'm a cheater, there's a huge number of games that I own on various supports. Like RE4 that I bought.... 5 times. Or the whole ME trilogy that I bought on every support. Or RE6 that I own 3 times. Don't ask me why I do this, I don't know.

- Emet Selch is the best FF antagonist. Screw Sephiroth and Kuja (i still love you guys).

- I'm mainly playing on PlayStation consoles. But I play on everything. Consoles (both Microsoft/PlayStation or even Nintendo... At my biggest demise), pc and smartphone.

- I used to be a very competitive player back in my Uncharted 3 multi-player days. Did lots of world tournaments with my team and it's probably the greatest memory I have. I was also ranked 93th in the world ranking on tekken 6 on x360 like a millenia ago. Lili rocked 👍🏻

- Two out of my three tattoos are video games related. I have Sic Parvis Magna (a quote from the Uncharted series) written on my left arm and Ashe's tattoo from Overwatch on my right one.

- Black Flag was the best Assassin's Creed and the series died with it. Though ironically my fave assassins were the Frye twins.

- I don't think I've ever told anyone but I used to be addicted to video games to a serious degree when I was in middle school. I won't go into details because that's not the point here but despite my addiction that nearly got the best of my mental state back in the days, video games are what saved me, literally. I'm very dedicated to the topics about video game addiction because as a former addict, I know what it feels like because I've been through this and if I can help people in need, I will do it. I would like to add also something important: video games helped me to control my anger and violent behavior.

- I cry a lot over fictional characters. But who doesn't?

- When I was younger, I built a shrine in my room for dead characters. It all started because of Zack Fair. Bless that man. It was mostly a box with dead characters names written on paper near candles, and I prayed to them but I don't remember when specifically. I think I had decided different dates but I'm not sure.

- While I can understand why people are against it, I'm actually all for remasters and remakes.

- My first video game crush was Juto from MC II. A character that obviously no one knows.

- I hate what Naughty Dog has become. I miss the days when Amy Hennig and Christophe Balestra were still here. Everything changed because of Druckman and well... I don't like it. While he did excellent work on TLOU1 and U4, I just can't stand the guy.

- I once finished a game without actually looking at the screen, not even once (okay that's a lie, maybe 10 minutes). Context: I was trying to play Layers of Fear 1 but that shit was so scary that I couldn't even play the game without shaking like hell. So I asked my little sister to guide me through the game while I was controlling the character, as I was hiding in my blanket. That was a funny experience tho, we laughed a lot (I know you won't ever see this but love you, baby sis, you're the best)

“Are you busy? Can I ask a favor?” 

Tony almost didn’t bother to look up. Was he busy? Didn’t he look busy? He was tapping on his laptop and sometimes consulting his phone while he ran down a few loose ends on the design specs for the latest iteration of the Stark Seeder/Weeder drone system.

But the question seemed to have some urgency attached to it, and he looked up.

The man standing there had a tray with two coffees. And a messenger bag over his shoulder.

“Black, right? Single shot of blueberry?” He looked at Tony’s empty cup. Tony didn’t remember emptying his cup, but that tended to happen.

“Yeeees?” Tony asked.

“Yeah, sorry, I was doing my homework,” the guy said, using his chin to indicate the two top near the window. Tony vaguely remembered seeing him earlier when he got his order. “Happened to hear you. Can I sit?”

Tony debated; it wasn’t a long debate. His brain worked a lot faster than most people’s. Cons: someone was talking to him that he didn’t know, which probably meant the guy wanted something. Pro: more coffee. Pro: the guy was pretty good looking, missing arm and all.

“Sit.”

“Thanks.” The guy picked the chair next to Tony, rather than across, which was getting into Tony’s personal space, but still--

“You have until I finish drinking this to tell me what you want,” Tony said. He took a gulp, then looked back at his tablet.

“Would you pretend to be my date, for like fifteen minutes?”

Tony almost spit out the coffee, which would have been a shame. As it was, he swallowed too fast and had to suck air to cool his burning gums. “What?”

“My ex is on his way here, and-- okay, so I didn’t tell my roommate before I left that me and Brock broke up last week, he’s been working an opposite shift, so Clint told me that Brock was on his way here, and I just need to not look single and desperate.”

“There’s a lot to unpack there,” Tony said, mildly.

“Yeah, I know. But it’s Brock, and I’m-- look, he said that no one else would ever want to date me, and even if that’s true--” He gestured with his arm to the stump, indicating some lack of datability that only people who read fashion magazines probably believed.

“It’s probably not, but go on,” Tony said.

“I don’t deserve to be treated the way he treats me.”

“And you want to prove you can get a date, so that he’ll stop what? Being smug? Or trying to get you back?”

“Either. Or talk to me at all, really. I’m sorry, I’m just not very good at confrontation, especially not now. I hate people starin’ at me, and Brock’ll make a scene.”

What a dick. Yeah, even if the guy wasn’t good looking, and it didn’t sound like fun, Tony might agree. Pissing off assholes was always a pleasure.

“Sure, great, stay here a bit, this’ll be fun,” Tony said. “But you have to promise me two things. Tell your roommate right now, so this never happens again.”

The guy whipped out his phone, put it on the table, and started tapping it slowly. Tony watched him for a moment, thinking there had to be a better way for him to do that. Some sort of eye-capture software, and that was an idea. He tapped his own phone, accessing a notes application. Accessibility changes were always a good idea.

“Done,” he said. “What’s the other thing?”

“Tell me your name.”

“Oh,” the man said, then smiled. “It’s uh. It’s Bucky.”

“Great. My name’s Tony.”

“It’s nice to meet you.”

“My pleasure,” he said, watching Bucky’s face grow slightly concerned, the eyebrows furrowing as he looked over Tony’s shoulder. “That the ex?”

“Yep.”

“Okay. Look at me, now,” Tony said, reaching for Bucky’s hand. “I’m adorable and funny, look at me, smile, there you go.” 

“You are adorable,” Bucky admitted. Tony found himself oddly captivated by Bucky’s smile, the way his fingers felt under Tony’s hand. “It’s almost too bad--”

Tony only barely noticed when the ex came in, scoffed, and left again. It wasn’t important.

“It doesn’t have to be a pretend date,” Tony pointed out. “We’re in a coffee shop, just getting to know each other. Seems like we could just have a date. Date. Thing.”

“I’d like that.”

“Me, too.”

This one’s a doozy, I hope you know what you’re getting into anon

First impression: hated him lmao. Maybe not right away but for sure when I found out he lied and what I had to play through in his prison escape was fake. Now when I replay the game I just roll my eyes when I get to that part

Impression now: he’s not won me over. He is manipulative to me so that’s very hard to get past. I do not like people who pretend to be loyal while lying the whole time to get you to do what they want. He keeps on Nate cuz Sam is convinced this is really what Nate wants, he wants this adventure but Nate just has a lot to lose now and he wouldn’t risk it unless.... Sam’s life was on the line. I don’t respect how he went about it. Especially when he meets Elena for the first time and he does that cowardly wave to her.... yeah he knows and he’s guilty but still continues on. If there was a time to come clean it was then and I would’ve respected him for it. I do not hate him anymore tho. He just disappoints me now

Favorite moment: when you meet up with him near the end and he asks “did you find my lighter?” Idk lol Sam is mostly bad vibes to me but I laughed at that cause the thing was empty

Idea for a story: he quits smoking but I think he does that by the epilogue.

Or he goes on the Avery treasure hunt with Charlie Cutter like Nate was gonna set that up😂

Unpopular opinion: easy. I don’t sympathize with him as much as I should lol

Favorite relationship: him and crystal lololo probably him and Nate, the brothers Drake because that’s important. He does love Nate he just was very selfish about his own desires not thinking about the life Nate had grown for himself because he was stuck in prison

Favorite headcanon: not sure I have one...

To end more positively I do think he is a good complex character in U4
