i know probably nobody gives a shit about it anymore, but i'm high key so fucking glad that Queen showed up in Ch2 perfectly alive, finally putting to rest all those fucking "died in childbirth" headcanons that were rampant back in the Ch1 days to explain where Lancer's mother could've gone if she wasn't present.

somehow that was like the only explanation people seemed to care about, which made absolutely no sense if they were going off of Jevil's "THE QUEEN RETURNS" line.

i have several drafts from back in january comparing some of my old man yaoi ™️ ships which i decided against posting at the time because, quite frankly, they were thoughts no one would appreciate but me. two of the ships i know have some overlap, but the third didn't fit. a different genre. too niche.

but, with a new deadpool movie out and other ppl seeing the buggy parallels, i might as well get this off my chest:

we have an occasionally slapstick murderclown with obvious issues about the unusual way he looks, who presents himself as only having selfish motives but is (sometimes) lying about that, is very hard to kill, is disliked by ppl who have to work with him and popular with and beloved by ppl who don't both in-universe and out!

and his ex-bestie, a massively overpowered would-be martyr who is missing a flesh arm, has three scars over one eye, whose continued fondness for the murderclown post-breakup baffles everyone around him (murderclown included), and who refuses to elaborate on his motives for doing shady shit (including manipulating our beloved murderclown) except that he's doing everything for the sake of the future

His strike was so weak, so powerless that Wei WuXian didn’t even flinch, “Hit me. As long as you’ll feel better.”

I should kneel down and cry in gratitude, shouldn’t I?” Hearing the mocking tone that lacked any courtesy, Lan WangJi’s face grew cold. Jin Ling saw the displeased expression and immediately stood in front of Jiang Cheng, scared that Lan WangJi would kill him with one strike, “Uncle!” Wei WuXian’s expression worsened as well. He never expected Jiang Cheng to make up with him after he found out the truth, but he didn’t think his tone would be as unkind as ever, either. With a moment of silence, he replied, voice muffled, “I never asked you to thank me.”

But for dadmare… hmmmmmmm

It’s… I have complicated feelings about this trope

Like on one hand, I love the exploration of dadmare as a concept and would genuinely love for it to be explored in a deep meaningful way

On the other hand… the fandom never actually explores it in a deep meaningful way so everytime I come across dadmare a part of me dies inside

Like the fandom immediately settles for “tired generic dad trying to control his rowdy kids” and i’m here like :’)

Like i’d love for dadmare to actually be explored in depth, like the shift for Nightmare from being a bitch to being “dadmare” how does Nightmare deal with MTT in a dadmare way while staying true to his character

How did Nightmare develop and change and how does he feel about being “dadmare”, does he struggle to face the consequences of the abuse he put MTT through and how does he make it up to them? but like also for the love of god you can explore this trope without having MTT act like children, they’re literally +30 old men and you don’t have to infantilize them for the trope to work

Also hot take but everytime MTT call Nightmare “dad” unironically an angel loses its wings, it just ruins the vibes for me, like dadmare is a trope yet people genuinely take it too literally, which again just plays into the infantilization of adult characters

Hell, relationships aren’t one sided, how does MTT feel about Nightmare’s shift, do they trust him or do they take it as an opportunity to escape, do they hate Nightmare but warm up to him or do they not care for his change of heart

Like here’s an example, when people write dadmare, they write his ability to absorb MTT’s negativity to relieve them of their pain right? Ok cool, I LOVE THAT! What I hate tho is the fact every single person in the gang seems to “trust” Nightmare with their life and how all of them react the same way

Basically the MTT are reduced to cardboard cutouts that are literally just duplicates of each other, they all have the exact same reaction to anything Nightmare does, like you’re actually gonna sit here and tell me that Killer trusts Nightmare with his soul????? What did Nightmare do to earn that trust, and Killer isn’t a trusting person to begin with

Hell what did Nightmare do in the first place? Even when the interpretation of Nightmare is that he’s kind from the beginning and that he “saved them”, do you honestly believe that Murder would genuinely feel saved? Are you gonna tell me Horror is gonna stay and live with Nightmare by his own volition and abandon his brother where he only goes back to “visit” him? Since when has Nightmare become more important to Horror than Papyrus?

Hell since when can Murder, Killer and Horror communicate well?? Since when were they super close to each other and since when was Murder ok with Killer’s existence considering his very dangerous Determination and Chara-like nature?

Since when was Killer super emotional in stage 2 and since when was his other stages completely forgotten to fit the perfectly happy and healthy family that the fandom is trying to force onto these obviously unhealthy characters with unhealthy relationships and destructive behaviors

Like don’t get me wrong, people are obviously allowed to explore their fave characters however they like, but my point is, I can’t enjoy the trope of Dadmare even tho i want to, cause the fandom just settles for very straight forward answers to every problem, every little problem is immediately resolved with a snap of a finger

Everything is happy and rainbows and roses and any problems the MTT have they just go to dadmare and suddenly they’re no longer self destructive cause dadmare immediately saves them cause he always has the answer!!!

And i’m here still waiting for an interpretation of dadmare that actually pulls me in and actually interests me like

In anticipation of the next chapter with Leather, his deranged brothers, Jammy and Hitch.

Ok so, Leathers brothers are the ones i had the most fun with. I especially had fun with Hitch. Think I had the most freedom when designing these two because there's little to know indication of what they look like. the most to be inferred was "similar to Leather" and "farmers"

I just realized I gave them similar poses lol

Honestly, a lot of my interpretations of the brothers is very loose. From what I can gather, they are based on the Sawyer family, pretty obviously with Leather being a sexy Leatherface. But aside from that, I believe that Hitch takes inspiration from Nubbins Sawyer, who's known as the Hitchhiker and the most deranged; I mean we get dialogue from the Mc About how much we hate Hitch. I'm not too sure about Jammy; Its possible he could be the cook but that's a reach.

I took a lot of liberties with how Hitch and Jammy could be interpreted. Like, Leather feels like he's got a lot of older sibling energy, there's no way Hitch ISN'T a middle child, and Jammy feels like a youngest child. We get little info on their individual personalities outside of a few minute, easy to miss moments, based on vibes.

We hear about Jammy first; Leather comments that Jammy slacks off and in a later chapter, we have the option to tease Leather about Jammy fooling around with girls and from the way Leather reacts: he doesn't rule this out as a possiblity. So its likely he might have lured people to kill. Buts that's a headcanon tbh. But we do know the most about his personality, especially compared to his brother. Minus the blood and if he tried not to look like a shifty bastard, he'd come off as a simple farmer

Then we see Hitch in a later chapter, but he's unnamed until Leathers mask off episode. We don't get much info on him, it feels like he lurks in the background until its time to kill, so I reflected it in how his hat obscures his eyes. Whatever personality we can glean from him, i think we can also draw from Nubbins from TCM; psychotic and mentally deranged with erratic behavior. He might be the most bloodthirsty or confrontational, as evidenced by the fact he's the one hunting us down the most in Leathers mask off chapter.

It's pretty obvious that Hitch and Jammy are closer to each other than they are to Leather, as evidenced by the way they talk about him. From what I know about toxic family dynamics especially among siblings, it honestly feels like they might have been turned against him at some point. One could guess they somewhat cared for each other, but their hatred of witches and outsider overrode that. Their family is generally pretty fucked and we might get more info on them outside of the witch stuff. I hope so at least.

Obi-Wan Kenobi's tragedy is that he was the white knight of all white knights, the most 'by the book' Jedi of the Jedi Order, who served the Order loyally for the sake of the 'Greater Good'....only for the Order to fall and the 'Greater Good' to be (seemingly) lost anyway. He did everything according to the 'rules' (often at great cost to himself and to those who cared about him) and yet still he failed. Some see Obi-Wan as without flaw, not realising that it’s his very obedience to the Order that is the issue in the first place. Especially because he was willing to overlook or even sacrifice the well-being of individuals in service to the Order’s idea of ‘the Greater Good’. Maybe, just maybe, that should give some people pause before trying to frame him as this unerring figure who never did a single thing wrong. Obi-Wan's character has been established as less-than-perfect since the Original Trilogy (since ESB and RotJ at the very least). That's over forty years ago, people! We've known him to be a 'collection of half-truths and hyperbole' for all that time. And the way Obi-Wan's character was portrayed in the Prequels may have rendered him more tragic, yes, but it didn't go against what the OT had established. In fact, it showed us clearly that he DID fail Anakin (something he himself admits on-screen). I would also agree that he failed Padme by putting her directly in harm's way—something fandom realllly likes to overlook in favour of the much-preferred pasttime of hating solely on Anakin. In RotS, the lines 'I will do what I must' and 'do what must be done' are purposefully juxtaposed as an indictment of BOTH Obi-Wan and Anakin.

The next step of Obi-Wan's tragedy is that after this catastrophic failure, he learns the wrong lessons. He doubles down, thinking that he was the one who must have strayed from 'Yoda's way' and the Order's teachings (by caring ‘too much’ about Anakin despite himself, perhaps?), and that if only he'd been even more 'by the book', maybe Anakin wouldn't have fallen. Yoda and Obi-Wan's problem was that they were always trying to mold Anakin into the Jedi they wanted him to be (because they feared his 'clouded' and 'uncertain' future), instead of understanding his natural strengths and abilities (the fact he cared about saving people over adhering to abstract principles), and trying to encourage those instead. So when Anakin fell, they took it as a sign that their fears were right, instead of realising that while fear might indeed be 'a path to the dark side'....it wasn't just Anakin's fear. It was theirs, too.

Fans can love Obi-Wan all they want (believe it or not, I actually love him too, I just prefer to understand him as flawed!), but it would be nice if they would stop trying to claim that he's the 'real main character' of Star Wars. This is the Skywalker saga, not the Kenobi saga, in case they haven't noticed. And yet the amount of SW fans these days who seem think the story is 'about' him blows my mind. The fact Disney happened to make a big-budget fanfic about a character doesn't change said character's long-established role in the original story. As noted above, Obi-Wan is the failed mentor figure of the main characters. He's not the perfect, long-suffering saint who is 'always right' in the way so many insist on portraying him. The PT x OT narrative itself proves him wrong. He's tragic, yes, but his ‘certain point of view’ is absolutely not vindicated by the story. Luke going his own way and loving his 'monstrous' father in direct rejection of what Yoda and Obi-Wan tell him is the only thing that truly provides salvation to all the characters.

I wish fandom would understand that they can enjoy Obi-Wan without willfully misinterpreting his entire role in the story simply to suit an over-idealised view of him.

A Very Controversial Opinion…

But I honestly do not get the complete and utter support for Obi-Wan while people trash others who have dared to challenge him and his opinions such as Qui-Gon and Anakin. Obi-Wan is not perfect and I don’t get why people are trying to pretend he is. He’s actually got serious flaws too.

Obi-Wan is a good character, yes, but he has his shortcomings too. Watching Episode I as an adult these days only made me notice that Obi-Wan is not nice to Anakin from the moment they met despite having no reason to be mean and only takes him on as a Padawan because Qui-Gon asked him to. Hell, I think the very first time he calls Anakin by his name and not “the boy” is at the end of the movie. The Council had decided Anakin had the potential to be dangerous despite only being nine-years-old so Obi-Wan didn’t question, and just followed their word, even getting mad at Qui-Gon for not listening too at one point. He tries to rebuke his own MASTER! But Qui-Gon never treated him the way Obi-Wan treats Anakin.

I also don’t stick with the headcanon floating around that Qui-Gon “just threw Obi-Wan to the wolves” so he could train Anakin instead. Qui-Gon is no fool and its clear that Obi-Wan WAS ready for the trials. He killed a freaking Sith who was very strong(and a badass) not long after that meeting for god’s sake. Granted, it seems he had to use his anger to do so, but he did even though using anger like that is something he scolds Anakin for regularly. Qui-Gon was not “trying to ditch him” and the fact that Maul actually survived doesn’t matter. Obi-Wan still beat him.

I’ll argue that Obi-Wan had numerous chances to prevent Anakin’s Fall but he didn’t listen most of the time, preached the Code at him despite breaking it himself, and even broke Anakin’s trust FIRST. He is too much of a stickler for rules and didn’t try to understand Anakin’s issues which resulted from his background as a slave when he also had to leave his mother behind at only nine years old. Anakin also implies that worse than that happened but he got NO help from anyone, including Obi-Wan in dealing with it. It’s not even just Obi-Wan really, it can be argued that the entire Jedi Order let Anakin down, starting with NO ONE questioning Palpatine’s interest in him and stopping their meetings. It took 13 years of conditioning and manipulation for Palpatine to finally push Anakin over the edge, but before this happened, Anakin had gone to Obi-Wan, Padme and even YODA but was brushed off by ALL THREE. Yet Padme and Obi-Wan get the support. They both claim to love him but both either couldn’t see or refused to see that he was struggling. All they saw was the Hero and Face of the Republic army. (Question: has Obi-Wan ever told Anakin he loved him to his FACE before the Mustafar fight? Could’ve made a difference if not. Probably.)

A bit dramatic, but if you think about it, the Jedi were treating Anakin as much of a slave as he was on Tatooine. Without the bomb of course but one could make the argument that Qui-Gon took him from one form of slavery to another. I know we all love the Ani-Obi brotherhood but the fact is, Obi-Wan has let him down several times, and yes the opposite happened too, and the light side lost the war against the Sith long before Episode III. They lost as soon as Qui-Gon was killed by Maul. Obi-Wan is not necessarily guilty of THIS, he’s just ignorant to the shortcomings of the Order as a whole.

One of the biggest things that bothers me really is that in Episode III, Obi-Wan maims Anakin to win the fight, YES he did warn him, but he did this and then just left him there to suffer a horrible death by burning alive made even worse when he didn’t actually die. Obi-Wan makes excuses for this, and even in Episode IV, still doesn’t take responsibility. No wonder Vader is so pissed off especially if one takes into account the rumor that Palpatine had rigged Vader’s surgery to keep him in perpetual pain and therefore below Palpatine in power. Not that Vader was trying to get away but still.

In comparison to that last, in the Episode IV Death Star confrontation, Vader actually grants Obi-Wan a much swifter end with a single swing of his lightsaber. Vader is a Sith but of the two, he gave the more humane end and to someone who he saw as an enemy, not to mention that Obi-Wan actually used this to manipulate Luke against Vader because he only stopped fighting after he saw Luke watching. At least Luke calls him out on this in Episode VI after he finds out the truth about Vader. I can argue the possibility that Padme may have gotten through to Anakin on Mustafar but we won’t ever know because Obi-Wan essentially betrayed her trust too by secretly stowing away on her ship, which is what caused Vader to turn on her. 

Excuse my rant, but this is something in the fandom that bugs the ever loving heck out of me. It isn’t anti-ANYONE(except Palpatine), but some have their flaws and bad decisions glossed over and are made to look like perfect saints while others are made to look like horrid horrid people for daring to not agree with Obi-Wan and his decisions/opinions. Anakin was attacked since the prequels were made and I don’t agree with most of what people say, but I don’t understand where the sudden Qui-Gon bashing came from. Even several posts made “to remember Padme” are just covers to bash Anakin instead. 

Off topic now, but some of the bashing of Anakin is getting out of hand. I found one where someone created a photoshop of Owen’s (deserved) remark against Obi-Wan in “Kenobi” and warping it to him making it against Anakin about not saving Shmi and someone else in the comments declared that it “was deserved! lol!!” Um no. It wasn’t and if anyone was to blame for that aside from the Tuskan Raiders, it was technically Cliegg Lars for letting her go out alone. But I digress.

maybe it's just me but i never found something overly wrong or wrong in general about the way Mel went about being an advisor/investor in hextech? Jayce ASKED for an investor and got one, but was surprised she called them investments as if that's not what they were? It's crazy to me how he forgot she was the reason Jayce was even able to continue making their inventions too. I get he was confused wtvr but his anger was soo misplaced during that scene.

Mel was nothing but open tbh and it took years for them to even finally get together so ppl trying to say she groomed him (grown ass man, mind you) is so insane. Ntm the blatant mischaracterization from both fans and even one of the writers. It's crazy how ppl interpreted her character in s1 to be this "evil corrupt politician," but she never once gave off evil energy, cunning/clever at most honestly. Like Amanda Overtons' evil ass saying she wanted Mel to be this "evil witch"?? and saying she wrote their romance storyline "boring" to push her own agenda..like why are we flaunting hating them as if you didn't fall for blatant propaganda/bad writing against the couple. 💀

And last thing I hate when ppl say she "hated" Viktor because she spoke directly to Jayce when about making the weapons as if Jayce wasn't always the front runner of hextech who had the final say out of everyone. She obviously cared for him like she literally told Jayce "he'll come back to us" after he got sick. That's not there for no reason !!

what are your thoughts on the hyuga siblings and their relationship

OOF now thats one of my favorite naruto dynamics lmao. i think neji and hinata have a very interesting relationship and i say that as someone who really didn't (and tbh still doesn't) love how that relationship developed in canon

i really like the hyuga fight in the chunin exams because the way it's perceived is sooo interesting to me.. neji comes off as an outright bully and i don't even blame the kids for calling him an asshole after all of that, but from reader's perspective it's really obvious that his animosity only exists because of a larger issue...

neji shouldn't treat hinata the way he does, but he does so because of her unique position as a scorned heir. she still benefits from everything that makes his life awful - her life is still valued more than his - but hiashi hates her enough that he won't care if neji dishes out verbal abuse on her. it's an awful dynamic and definitely contributes to hinata's terrible self-worth, but it's a symptom of the life they have been forced into by the man who the manga is intent on letting escape all of the blame for this situation lmao

(hiashi himself can be a really fascinating case honestly. i think he fully means everything he says, which is what makes him so grating but fun to me LOL. his apology to neji is entirely sincere AND it completely misses the point of all of the issues, but neji is young and deprived of acknowledgement enough that he accepts it wholeheartedly. hiashi thinks he's the best uncle of all time.)

hinata herself has so little belief in her own worth that she just sits there and takes whatever abuse people throw at her... i don't actually think neji's anger towards her was a constant - i think some people interpret it that way - rather i feel like it was something that came up whenever he was pushed too far. in more normal circumstances where he's not being made to fight her directly, he was likely more detached than anything. he wanted nothing to do with her.

in one of the filler mini arcs ive mentioned before (i think. the one that focuses on hanabi and hinata) there's a scene that rang very true to me (and im gonna recount this without rewatching it atm so sorry if i get details wrong,): neji was being made to train with hinata, asked to be allowed to leave because he felt his time was being wasted and correctly noted that it doesn't have to be him here, was told no by hiashi and then he started getting vicious and violent. towards hinata, of course, not hiashi. he then got horribly punished for it LOL i think that's the general dynamic they were living in, neji reaches a limit of disrespect that he can take and explodes on the nearest most acceptable target (we loove a boy with no emotional regulation <3), goes too far and suffers the consequence of it while nothing else changes. to him interacting with hinata at all is just asking for pain, either emotional or straight up physical

But, for hinata, she saw herself and neji as similar (the black sheep of the family i suppose), and would have liked to bond over that fact; theyve known each other since they were very little and she outright refers to him as a brother. it's clear to me she's always cared a lot about neji and imo feels responsible for what happened to his father (something that hiashi doesn't help with. Dad of the year), so she saw their match in the exams as a chance to close the distance between them and get neji to see her as a person, an equal instead of a symbol to lash out on.

but, you know, she was 12 LMAO so she ended up pressing all of his buttons instead and it led to his famous outburst, which led to the famous moment of Every Single Jonin (other than asuma.) coming to stop him and further cementing his belief that her life is seen as special. i think (and this is a mix of Shit I Made up, and Me trying to make sense of the manga's insane mishandling of their plotline) that despite her trying her hardest to reach neji she didn't really grasp the horror of his situation. that's the tragedy of neji's life really LMAO, no one really tries to grapple with the severity of what having that curse mark does to a person. she thought of his fatalism as more of a psychological, metaphorical way of dealing with hurt and not like... "my life literally does not belong to me no matter how much i try to fight it"

i think hiashi-hizashi were hoping that the cousins could have had a better relationship than they did... letting them hang out often and stuff, introducing them early, hizashi not discouraging neji from being friendly with her, to me it all reads as very "ok well this didn't work for Us, but what if it works out for them... even though literally nothing has changed". they were proper family once and hizashi wanted to die for his brother, not his leader, so that just makes sense to me.

i do nautttt like the naruto vs neji fight so to keep the post positive i will gloss over it <3 but hinata and neji's relationship post-chunin exams to me is peak like. God i wish this was done better because it could have been soooo good

neji realizes that his anger is consuming him and adjusts his behavior accordingly, getting a lot of his kindness back, and he becomes intent on fixing his relationship with hinata... i don't hate that premise at all, it's just the way it's executed that bothers me!

the impression i got (and i could be mistaken im in the process of rewatching the anime + rereading the manga) is that their relationship getting better is done exclusively through like. neji repenting for being mean to her. which, don't get me wrong, he SHOULD apologize (AND THAT WOULDVE BEEN A COOL THING TO SEE ONSCREEN, BTW) but you CANNOT divorce his behavior from the hyuga system in general. from the way they act after the exams you would think their issues were born solely from neji being a bully for no reason, and not, like... him lashing out on her because his uncle is literally the devil.

i don't think hinata has the power to change a lot in her clan on short notice (she did get disowned. did that un-happen offscreen? we will never know. Hiashi gets to be a grandfather to her children btw.) but i certainly would have liked to see her standing up for branch members and in the stuff i draw that's the story i have in mind LMAO. like, her gaining a deeper understanding of neji's situation and trying to work against her father trying to make her cousin's life better? i think that would have been really sweet and even show her gaining more confidence in herself and her beliefs. you can still have neji fussing over her and being protective because he feels bad for how they used to be, i actually really like that because neji IS a very sweet person, i just reject the idea that it's his sole Moral Obligation to put everything aside and make things better by the power of I Will Die For You Now, But This Time, For The Right Reasons

as for hanabi i wish she had more screentime soooo bad because i'm obsessed with how she gives off Haunted Child vibes lmfao. talking abt her requires me to expose myself a little bit and have to admit hiashi is kind of a blorbo to me because of how much he sucks ass, but like. Essentially his insane resentment of hinata was born when hizashi died, it doesnt matter it wasn't really her fault, he needed someone to blame and he would never blame himself, at least not outwardly lol. hiashi did genuinely love his brother, it just didn't stop him from being a monster to him, and he is certainly not gonna grapple with that now that he's dead!

(and, you know, the whole "sorry we sent a guy to kidnap an heir. you do need to die for killing him though" thing is really dumb but if we stop at every single stupid thing in naruto we will be here all day.)

with all that being said i think hiashi tries his best to make hanabi everything hinata isn't, and he has very little interest in having her and hinata have any bond at all. he just left neji and hinata to fester in that god-awful dynamic with no supervising, and took hanabi as the best direction for the clan to head towards. but, you know, father of the year is very demanding and doesn't seem to be very fatherly to her at all from the little we see of them. she's just like. a good soldier, and that's what he needs.

i think hanabi growing to resent her sister for the situation she's been put into (if hinata weren't 'weak' she wouldn't have so much responsibility) is very interesting! by the time we meet her i think she's learned that the best thing to do wrt her sister is to just ignore that she exists. as for neji he barely registers as a presence to her; neji has no reason to interact with her and hiashi has no reason to incentivize it. it's very fun to me!

in general i really like all of their dynamics can be used to explore how hurt and trauma drive people apart, i could talk about them for hourssss LMAO i love the suna family for the same reason!

I know you ain’t that stupid!” Despite taking notice of that intensifying snarl lurking in the Cy-bug’s chest, Vanellope didn’t let it stop her. “You had to have known how dangerous that was! Why the heck would somebody so crazy full-of-himself ever do something like that? Throwin’ your life away like that?! You coulda died!” “I may as well have!” He regretted snapping back the second those words left his mouth. The second he saw how Vanellope’s expression had changed from a face of disturbed confusion to something else entirely. Something far more shocked, yet with hints of a look he knew all too well on her. That look of pity that he oh, so hated.

Finally getting into #TheRoadblastersIncident.... The Roadblasters backstory in the movie was honestly one of my biggest pieces of inspiration for Kill Switch as a whole. I won't ramble on about it here, as I explain my view of it in more depth at the end chapter notes, but I hope y'all can still enjoy this chapter for what it is, even if my interpretation of events may not line up with how others might see it. okay well ACTUALLY i will elaborate on my Whirl feelings. fandom tends to parse 'I want my hands back' as Whirl very specifically being upset he has claws, because they are assumed to be less functional, and broadly that he wants a body which is not empurata'd again. but as I said in this post, we know people who underwent empurata can get new hands and faces- perfectly good ones. tarn used to be damus and damus was a victim of it too, and they got the guy a whole new body! there's no way that with ratchet as autobot CMO, he would not be insistent that they make time and find resources for any empuratee who wants new hands or a new face at SOME point throughout the war. let alone now it's over.

but they would be new ones. the point is that when whirl says 'i want my hands back' he doesn't (just) literally mean 'i want hands again instead of claws', or even 'i want the original hands i was forged with back'. i would argue he means he wants to go back to the person he used to be before the shit he went through beat him into a new shape he hates. (because whirl reeeeally hates himself. we are literally introduced to him during a suicide attempt as his defining character moment, i mean…) but he can't, because that's not possible, and getting new hands won't magically make him the person he was when he was a watchmaker even if it'd make it easier to make watches again.

and that's why whirl doesn't get new hands or a new face! because it's scary to admit that doing so doesn't make him the person he once was again, and if he did it and was still the same damn person, it would be that ultimate proof that nothing he does will ever acheive this. it's safer to remain as he is in a body he hates than to change it and not actually have solved the underlying issue.

it's also why he rejects the offer of ratchet's hands in LL #25. at that point, he has been able to accept the person he now is and will always be going forward, so they no longer carry the same symbolism. sure, that means he could choose to take them without fear, but it also means he can reject them as not really necessary anymore, and i think it makes the most sense for whirl's arc that he chooses the latter, tbh.

(sidenote: especially worth noting we never actually see if whirl can't make watches with his claws. he can at least make clocks! i've seen people suggest you can interpret it as him actually being perfectly capable with his current frame and he doesn't want to admit it and learn a new way because *points at above*, and honestly, intentional reading or not, i fully buy this. i like to imagine post-canon, he's perfectly good at making them with his current hands, because now he's not so hung up on all that baggage that teaching himself the necessary new techniques is unbearable to consider like it was before. this also has the bonus of mitigating some of the comic's uhhh. confusing? messaging around forged/constructed stuff and disability, so i'll take it.)

if it's not too much, can i ask how you headcanon the murder time trio? since they're not exactly "canon" to any of the stories from their respective original artists, it's interesting to see how different people interpret them :)) tbh, i do feel like, from nightmare's pov, having more personal henchmen seems... risky in a way, as that means exposing killer to other outside influences that he can't fully control. like, what if killer starts to have ideas (organizing a henchmen union for example lol) - new people are interesting, something new for sure? does nightmare have to provide for these new henchmen now too?? so many factors to consider! unless these henchmen are more part-time than full-time lol.

i also think that, individually, the murder time trio might not get along with each other at all. they are (or were?) all sanses, but they have developed different moralities that canonically can clash with each other. the only way i think they can work well together is if they don't know each other's backstories. they function well with a wet blanket of mysteries, and i headcanon that's how nightmare is able to control them. he has all the cards, and he can play their emotions well, either to make them get along with each other, or to sow distrust among each other as well.

To me personally, i take my interpretation by looking at each of the Trio individually with their stories and then try and string together how they’d act around each other

Killer just honestly wouldn’t care about the others’ stories or past or anything like that, so when it comes to Murder or Horror, Killer he has no problem with them and would get along with them pretty well

Aside him being an absolute bitch to them at times, Killer wouldn’t hold much hostility towards them, and any harsh or offensive comments he makes towards them would only be because he felt like it, Killer has no reason for doing what he does, he just does it cause he can

However, Killer is definitely the type to value his privacy, and any questions or comments that might disrespect said privacy, would definitely escalate to Killer fighting whoever pressed him about matters they don’t understand or have the right to know, he simply doesn’t like to be pushed around, and he’s one with a lot of secrets, and he wouldn’t let Horror or Murder get their nonexistent noses into his business, like know how people always portray Nightmare to always be like “my room is off limits”?? Take that and actually apply it to Killer, Killer’s room, belongings (especially his weapons), and thoughts/personal life are all off limits

Ironically, Killer doesn’t hold that same respect of privacy when it comes to the other two, he’d definitely and especially not respect their personal spaces and would probably be super touchy with them, Murder and Horror hate to be touched but Killer does it anyway (Murder and Horror don’t realize Killer does that not just to be annoying but because he’s reassuring himself that they’re real, that they are indeed in front of him and not just another figment of his fucked up mind, not that he’d ever tell them that tho)

Murder on the other hand, definitely hates being on Nightmare’s team, he has no interest in serving Nightmare, he only cares about his own AU, so i can see him be the quiet loner who just doesn’t engage much with Killer or Horror

However, I can still see Murder feeling ok with Horror, but definitely not liking Killer in the slightest, cause while Murder is deluded to think that he killed everyone in his AU cause he “had to” to get his LV higher to be able to Kill the human and supposedly save everyone from resets, to him, Killer only had done the same thing but only for fun, that Killer is no better than the human, so I can see Murder treading carefully around Killer and just overall being cautious around him, especially with the amount of Determination Killer holds, it’s much greater than his and that fact downright disgusts him, cause how many times has Killer killed those in his AU to have his very soul deformed like that, not that Murder would be outwardly hostile towards Killer, but mucv like Killer, simply passive aggressive

I feel like Murder is the one that would always pry into Killer’s “off limits” area, he’s not curious or interested, he just simply hates Killer for being a monster with many faces (Can Murder even call him a monster when his soul doesn’t represent that of a monster?)

But i feel like Murder would be in for a surprise as he talks with his Papyrus only for Killer to say something along the lines of “it seems I’m not the only one who sees my Papyrus”

I can actually see Papyrus be the only point in which Murder and Killer actually agree about something

I feel like Horror is on the same boat as Murder but to a much smaller scale, so he’s fine with Murder but would break Killer’s skull if he could, he’s still a lot less hostile towards Killer than Murder tho, he’d just engage with Killer as he’d engage with everyone else, but Killer definitely gets on his nerves with his very nonchalant yet passive aggressive attitude

I would lie if I said I don’t think Horror would feel a bit disgusted by both Killer and Murder for murdering their Papyruses, cause how could they? Papyrus is the only one they were tasked to take care of and they just Kill him off? And I can see Horror actually commenting on it, only to get a comment back from Killer about how he’s not any better than them, how he literally fed his Papyrus human meat, Horror is baffled by how on earth did Killer even manage to know that, only for Killer to be his usual secretive self and simply states that he has “his ways”

I can still see Horror forming a good friendship with Murder tho, and even forming some sorta alliance where him and Murder go “you scratch my back, i scratch yours”, very beneficial when you’re working under Nightmare

Killer is unfortunately on his own tho, especially with the fact Nightmare seems to have his eye on him 24/7, Horror and Murder try and stay away as to not end up catching Nightmare’s interest too, they don’t know why Killer seems to catch Nightmare’s fancy, but they’re glad they haven’t met the same fate and they’re not about to change that by getting closer to Killer, not only that, but I feel like Horror and Murder would definitely see Killer as the “pet” to Nightmare, his favorite “toy”, and with how Killer’s the closest to Nightmare, what’s to stop Killer from spelling their secrets or thoughts for Nightmare’s ears to hear??

It makes Killer a bit if an outcast, but Killer doesn’t really care

Not only that, I feel like Killer would definitely creep Horror and Murder out by his vast knowledge in the Metaverse and Players, and while Killer doesn’t make such creepy comments about how none of them have any true free will often, they still get to the other two to an extent

I can still see the Trio becoming friends still, but not in the same sense that is the star sanses are friends, more like the Trio are the kinda friends to try and kill each other as a form of showing affection, they’re always really mean to each other, and are definitely a bit distant, but they’re also in the same shitty circumstances under the same shitty roof under the same shitty boss, and none of them would admit it, but all of them find a bit of solace in each other’s company, cause it always means they’re not alone whenever Nightmare breaks their bones, even if the two who survived Nightmare’s wrath would only make fun of the poor bitch who faced it head on

I can also see them finding common grounds in surprising places

Horror is actually surprised to know that Killer doesn’t eat, that Killer has a problem with food just like he does

Murder is actually extremely surprised Killer seems to hate the human (at least to an extent) like he does

Killer is a bit relieved to know he isn’t the only one to killed everyone in his AU, that he isn’t the only one to gained Determination cause of it (even if he’s more severely affected by it)

The three are all relieved (not that any of them would admit it) they’re not the only one with fucked up mental health

As for Nightmare, I feel like he’d definitely have some sorta plan before he actually hires anybody, Killer isn’t hard to contain, just keep him at stage 2 and crush any hope he may have of any fantasy of him finding a better life for himself and he’d stay in line

Horror? Just threaten him with killing his brother, problem solved, he wouldn’t dare get out of line

Murder is the one i feel would be hardest for Nightmare to control, in fact, i fully believe Murder is always trying to run away to find his way back home, and so i feel like Nightmare would put Killer on babysitting duty, Killer is tasked with always watching Murder and making sure he stays in line, and while Nightmare never explicitly states it, Murder is fully aware that Killer’s watching him

It complicates things for Murder and i can imagine him actually succeeding in getting away a few times, only for Killer to find him and bring him back kicking to Nightmare’s feet

I actually like to think Nightmare’s lenient to an extent when it comes to the Murder Trio visiting their homes as long as they get back immediately once they finish whatever business they wanted taken care of, and it doesn’t get in the way of their missions, hell he’d even let them go for days at a time (Murder, however, is always dragged back by Killer, and it makes Nightmare think of how much of an ungrateful bastard Murder is)

Here’s the twist tho, Nightmare doesn’t allow them to go home out of the goodness of his heart, Nightmare simply allows it as a bit of a fancy manipulation tactic in which it would make it seem like he isn’t “too bad” (he’s so damn bad) and it would just give Horror and Murder less of a reason to plan any sort of treason against him (Killer’s too unfeeling in stage 2 to care enough to form an alliance) not that Nightmare’s worried about it, he’s more than capable to put them in their places had they dared, he simply doesn’t want to deal with such hassle when it can be easily prevented (i mean he really isn’t in the mood to find another Horror and Murder)

That however, doesn’t make any of the Trio any less expendable to Nightmare, especially Horror and Murder, Nightmare tries to always keep the same Killer around cause he just isn’t in the mood to condition whatever new Killer he gets to play by his rules again, but he definitely had a few different Killers over the years

Murder as well, he definitely was replaced with another Murder so many times (he’s the one who gets replaced the most)

I like to think Horror is the only one who never got replaced by another version of himself, cause Horror always tries his damn hardest to stay in line and keep on Nightmare’s good side, and whenever he goes on missions he’s always so very careful about how much damage he takes as to not be deemed useless by Nightmare, all motivated by his love and fear of leaving his brother behind by himself had Nightmare decided to kill him

It’s always surreal for Horror to see the Murder he formed a good friendship with to be killed off by Nightmare like he never mattered, only for Horror to be introduced to another Murder in the next morning like the presence of the previous Murder meant nothing at all, and it’s even more surreal for him to introduce himself to a new Killer or a new Murder like he never met them before, all back to square one

Killer might’ve served Nightmare the longest cause he was the first to be recruited, but Horror had always been the one to actually last the longest

my Irene headcanons below cuz someone asked <3

According to the voicelines she’s drugged and hypnotized by her husband and most of the time is just a very obedient trad wife. But they also mentioned she would argue with Easterman and wants to leave him after discovering he’s been drugging her. So in my headcanon her mental state is very unstable, she’s drifting in and out of the drugs effects, she’s not entirely lost and is constantly fighting against the manipulation of her husband.

But as the time settings is in the 1960s so the general environment is pretty misogynistic. She’s confused about the social role of a woman that she often questions wether this abusive marriage is expected to be normal or she’s going insane. (That’s when Avellanos comes in and change her entire worldview with lesbians sex)

As for the self harm wounds that’s solely because Easterman loves to have power over ppl so he makes her harm herself under drugs or hypnosis. (according to his conversation with Wernicke I assume he’s repulsed at hetero sex, probably because of his own gender dysphoria. So yes that misogynistic freak gets off to her pain is hardly a surprise) Irene usually doesn’t remember the process, so she mistaken those are because of her own alcoholism and depression. She hates herself and those wounds, would use bandages to hide them.

I headcanon she comes from a decent wealthy family, provided her with enough sense of self and knowledge but not enough to let her see beyond the social gender discipline. She met Easterman and his brother Stanley in high school, their relationship is kind of like the langermanns and Jessica situation in O2. Stanley secretly had a crush on her but unfortunately Irene only views him as a friend back then, too blinded by the feigned maturity of Hendrick and her family probably favors Hendrick over Stanley’s soft and pessimistic personality anyway. Both of the brothers are not mentally stable as they both grow up in an abusive household, unlike Hendrick who is good at hiding his fucked up mentality Stanley is very aware of his inability to provide her with a healthy relationship, but still he cares for Irene deeply. She later developed some feelings for Stanley after she’s stuck in the terrible marriage.

But then again we know too little about the brothers, the whole Easterman family is a giant mess. To elaborate on my headcanons on Easterman’s family will take another wall of text so I will skip that here, but I’m also very interested in that topic.

Anyway we know what happened to Stanley next(actually we don’t) Irene is absolutely devastated, would often see him in her dreams and drugs induced hallucinations. Sometimes Stanley appears to her in an unspeakable way(my explanation for the uniform kink, that police line is irrelevant to me idc), she’s terrified of her own infidelity but it’s a comfort to her nonetheless. She’d see him appearing as a corpse sometimes but he’d never been scary to her. Everything about Stanley is a comfort compared to her reality.

Her feelings regarding her husband is mixed. Deep down she hates his guts but the environment around her is making it impossible for her to leave, so her mind would probably develop a self protect mechanism that’s build around the fond memories with him before marriage, which leads to her thinking she still loves her husband. Also the drugs and hypnosis aren’t helping.

In conclusion she’s not a blank trad wife character to me, and I don’t think that’s what red barrels wanted her to be either.

You loved Todd in every way, in every color, in every possible form. But sometimes, loving him hurt. Every time his eyes followed the popular, beautiful girls in the hallways, or when he made casual remarks about someone in a movie, a cruel tightness took over your chest. Like you couldn’t breathe, like something inside you was drowning. Your fingers clung to anything nearby, searching for something solid to keep from falling apart.

Walking home with him was suffocating on days when he talked about his romantic interests. Todd never actually got with anyone, and somehow, that made things worse. He remained untouched, unreachable, like he lived in a world of his own where no one had ever left a mark on him. His fresh scent lingered in the air—warm, inviting, calming. It felt like it had been made just for him, and you feared the day someone else would break that harmony.

You took another deep breath as you followed him up the stairs. The moment you stepped into his room, his scent became stronger, enveloping you like a greenhouse, intoxicating and inescapable.

"Look at that poster. I got it online yesterday." He grinned, his face lighting up with excitement as he pointed to his newest addition on the wall. An Evanescence poster, carefully placed among other bands he loved. "Amy Lee is so beautiful. She has an appeal, so attractive."

Your chest tightened, your fingers curling around the hem of your shirt.

"Am I attractive too?" The words slipped out before you could stop them, low and uncertain. You hadn’t even meant to say them, but exhaustion had loosened your restraint.

Todd blinked, his eyebrows pulling together slightly.

"You?" He echoed, as if making sure he heard you right. A faint flush crept up his cheeks as he cleared his throat, his gaze flickering away for a second before returning to you. "Well... you probably already know that. You don’t need me to say it. Why?"

"I don’t know why I asked." You lied, looking away, your words rushing out as if trying to hide something that had already spilled over. "Forget it. I… it doesn’t make sense."

"What doesn’t make sense?" He turned to you fully now, his expression shifting, growing serious. He took a step closer, his body warmth closing the space between you. His fingers brushed against your arms, firm yet gentle. Less oxygen, more cologne, more of him.

"I hate this thing between us." The words burst out of you, as if the weight of everything was caving in on your lungs. Your skin burned under his subtle touch as his fingers traced lightly up your back.

"I’m sorry." Todd murmured, his voice thick with guilt, even though he didn’t understand why. He always apologized. Always tried to fix things, even when he didn’t know what was broken. "I don’t know what I did to hurt you, but if it was something I said—"

"Would you kiss me?" Your voice trembled, your throat tightening. The posters on the wall seemed to close in, suffocating you. "Would you be with me the way you say you’d be with those girls? Because I know I don’t compare to any of them."

Your eyes welled up with tears before you could stop them. The makeup you had carefully applied that afternoon, hoping he would notice, began to smudge, dripping like a cruel reminder of your failed attempts.

Todd froze. The arms that had been around you slowly dropped to his sides. His eyes flickered over your face, uncertainty clouding his expression.

"I’d do so much more than that." His voice finally broke the silence, and his words crashed into you like a wave, washing away the ache inside you. Your breath caught in your throat. Todd gave a small, awkward smile, like the words felt foreign coming from his lips. "I just… I didn’t want to ruin our friendship because of it."

Your lips trembled, and before you knew it, your arms were wrapped around him, holding him tightly. His heartbeat pounded against your ear, fast and uneven, and it hit you—you had never imagined you could make him feel this way. That sound, that rhythm, was now burned into your memory.

Todd hugged you back, his lips brushing your cheek. A familiar gesture—he always did that. But the next one wasn’t.

His lips barely ghosted over your neck, so faint you almost thought you imagined it, but the shiver that shot through your body told you otherwise. A spark ran down your spine, leaving your skin buzzing.

Todd took a deep breath against your neck, hesitating for just a moment before pressing a firmer kiss there. His hands slid down to your waist, pulling you even closer.

"You’re beautiful." He whispered against your skin, then pulled back just enough to press a kiss to your forehead. His voice was steady now, like he needed you to believe it as much as he did. "And so damn attractive. I just don’t know how you never noticed."

You closed your eyes for a moment, letting his words sink in.

"Kiss my neck again. Please." Your voice was soft, but thick with a longing that had been waiting too long.

Todd didn’t hesitate. How could he deny something he wanted just as much? His lips found your neck once more, and in that moment, you knew—there was no turning back. You were the first to break the notes of his cologne.
