Me, extremely casually, as if I'm describing the weather: Unfortunately, my bio parent has been dead for almost a decade. They passed almost immediately before I was going to meet them and I still have a lot of Feelings about that. I'd love to be able to have a "reaffirming" ""reunion"" story about having met my bio parent in person, to determine how I truly feel about them and the terms I use for them personally in the end, but it's never going to happen and I'm still not sure I even wanted it to. Please leave me be in peace.

Original Poster’s [Mine] Notes: The original entire adoption scene with the original contexts. Koushiro is talking with a soft tone near the beginning. When Mr. Izumi speaks up to say “There is nothing wrong with being into computers!” Masami speaks it in a raised/INSISTENT tone that causes Koushiro surprise.

And, as someone who is NOT biologically related ““by blood”” to one of MY OWN parents, This scene has always been incredibly important to me and I seriously wish this fan-base would consider the importance of this entire scene* (*and NOT picking and choosing lines from it) before they speak on Koushiro Izumi’s character arcs in the WHOLE canon. Because, - Yes, Koushiro counts as canonical Adopted representation; - Yes, Adopted representation and representation of non normative families; is and always will be important.

This post is also not meant to dismiss the U.S. dub’s version and in fact, I think there are things it actually did better for the U.S. audience when it came to localization. This post is already too long, so I am saving that commentary for now. Please do not use this post or my gifs for anti-dub arguments. (I will only hard-block you if you try.)

[Koushiro uses “Arigato[u]” {casual} notably in dialogue or, the TV version’s scripts for the first time here Instead of the more formal “Arigato[u] gozaimas[u]”. In the adoption scene, Koushiro starts out with the latter before hesitantly correcting himself with “A... Arigato[u]”.]

Koushiro is particularly known for using “textbook”-like Somewhat formal (polite) speech in the Japanese version. This is shown (Consistently) all through Adventure, 02, the various post-02 spinoff materials, and yes, even the whole of tri., the mid-tri. (timeline-wise) official stage-play, Kizuna, etc.

[In tri, it was their wedding anniversary.] (It is heavily implied Koushiro is helping to place the order for their meals as they are at a fancy French restauraunt. When the waiter speaks in French; the Izumis {Japanese} don’t seem to understand the French that Koushiro uses on the phone as he speaks to Sora. (Koushiro had begun to study French) Koushiro then takes a moment to order for Koushiro’s mother (while making obvious excuses to Sora).]
