the commodification of friendship is the most annoying thing to come out of the internet in ages. like actually i love to break this to you but you're supposed to help your friends move even if it's hard work. or stay up with them when they're sad even if you're gonna lose sleep. you're supposed to listen to their fears and sorrows even if it means your own mind takes on a little bit of that weight. that's how you know that you care. they will drive you to the airport and then you will make them soup when they're sick. you're supposed to make small sacrifices for them and they are supposed to do that for you. and there's actually gonna be rough patches for both of you where the balance will be uneven and you will still be friends and it will not be unhealthy and they will not be abusive. life is not meant to be an endless prioritization of our own comfort if it was we would literally never get anywhere ever. jesus.

yk whats interesting to me is that people agree aphmau did some problematic things in her past videos (products of their time) but that she is "one of the good ones" regarding kid's minecraft content. i agree

- she makes videos with her real friends and has a real dynamic with them, it's not a "just for content" agreement

- the editing isn't insanely saturated and in your face, and the videos aren't brainrot shorts. they have a premise and a payoff, even if a little cringe

- she makes high quality merch suitable for kids, they can experience bonding over her videos

you know who else does all of that? dream.

and even his "problematic aspects" were on other platforms (mainly twitter). so aphmau, who made actual videos that got massive amounts of views, included real queerbaiting and a racist caricature for a major character, seen by MILLIONS... yeah that's not as bad as *checks notes* getting accused of something on twitter and being annoying. cool!

no hate to aphmau, i think she 110% deserves her platform and is a great channel for kids. it's just important to notice she hasn't always been perfect, but she isn't a bad person for what truly just was normalized at the time, but she majorly added to that normalization. just puts in perspective how stupid dream hate is in comparison. all of his "controversies" weren't even affecting any of his main audience

like how do you even compare having a whole character named "kawaii-chan" play a main role in your videos to "he was raised a republican when he was a 14yo in florida" as anywhere near as impactful 😭😭
