Jen Tortures Herself With Every Dreamworks Animated Movie Ever: Shrek 2
So I haven't seen this movie in years and having just rewatched it, I can safely say, this movie invented comedy. Hands down.
Seriously though, what can be said about Shrek 2 that hasn't already been said? It's iconic, in every sense of the word, maybe even more of a meme factory than the original Shrek was. And yet even aside from being one of the funniest animated movies ever made (more on that in a bit), it's also just a really good and compelling story that hits all the right spots and really continues building on this world and these characters in an excellent way.
We kick off right after the first movie, with Shrek and Fiona freshly married and heading to Far Far Away to meet Fiona's parents. Throw in some family tension, the deviously delighful (milf) that is Fairy Godmother and her little bitch boy of a son Prince Charming, the ever debonaire Puss in Boots, and you have a movie that's an all time hood classic.
The jokes in this are so raw and so damn funny. Like the union bit and the police brutality joke? This damn movie was ahead of its time oh my god. Even outside of the humor though, the story itself is really good and does a great job helping you connect even more with the characters than the first movie did. Shrek especially, I feel like this one develops him even more, and you get to see just what lengths he'd go to for Fiona. It's honestly really sweet (and human Shrek is jacked wtf).
The rest of the cast is also great. Fiona may not get as much screentime here, but she's still a lot of fun. Donkey is a bit less annoying here than he was in the first movie, and the new additions like Puss in Boots are superb, there's a reason they gave that crazy lil cat his own franchise ya'll.
You also get a pretty interesting redemption arc for Fiona's dad, King Harold, who I just realized is the frog prince??? Like am I stupid or something for never knowing that before now??? Damn. Fairy Godmother is a FANTASTIC villain who gets to headline what may be one of the most epic climaxes in any animated ever (seriously, the I Need a Hero scene is pure HYPE). Speaking of music, the soundtrack is great just like the last movie's, with I Need a Hero being the highlight because oh my god ya'll, she slays it.
The animation definately got a bit more tuned up for this one too. The character models are much stronger and less... plasticy, I suppose is the right word, and the way they move is much more natural and fluid. The world itself is also given a lot more personality. I love how Far Far Away is basically just LA. That's such a fun little inside joke I never got as a kid.
As a whole, Shrek 2 is a fantastic movie. There's this trend we're gonna notice with Dreamworks trilogies where the first movie is great, the second movie is the best thing ever, and the third movie is either still really great (HTTYD3 and Kung Fu Panda 3) or the most confusing, what the fuck happened here thing ever (Shrek the Third). But we'll get to those when we get to those. Just... pray for me ya'll. Cause I gotta watch Shark Tale next. Lord have mercy on my soul.
Overall Rating: 9/10
Verdict: Get some dental insurance
Previous Review (Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas)
Next Review (Shark Tale)

Thank you @dangerliesbeforeyou for tagging me, im mentioning all kinds of media bc I love to rant, I have a lot of love in my heart and I have trouble choosing just 8: (im making this on mobile hope it's readable).
Howl's moving castle (2004)
My first experience of gender envy, gender fascination, gender emulation for Howl, at a time I didn't even know that gender was a thing because I was like idek 7 years old.
Kiss of the rabbit god (2019)
A short movie, stumbled onto it bc of Tumblr. You honour, I simply love it.
Shrek (2001)
I'm not being ironic I'm very serious about this one. My mom used to braid my hair weekly when I was little and I constantly played this one, I know it by heart and I'm not joking. I freaking love this movie. Same goes for Mulan, Beauty and the beast, Charlie and the chocolate factory, and the whole Shrek franchise up to the 3rd one. (Gotta watch Puss in boots 1 and 2 tho.)
V for vendetta (2005)
This is a shout-out to 14 years old me who might have at some point based their personality around this movie or maybe they didn't, who's to say. I'm not sorry. Kinda still like it tho.
Corpse bride (2005)
There is an independent cinema in my hometown and they did run it often over the years. Bestie I don't know how many times I went to see this movie with my mother as a child. Recently learned about the Jewish origins of this myth and im a lil upset about the stolen storyline without the context. But some will say it's a Burton movie and they're right.
Valentine's day (2011)
First movie I went to see alone with my friends, I was like 12yo. Rewatched it again like 2 years ago, yeah it ain't that great but it's the memories right.
Father and soldiers (2022)
The last movie that made me cry. I hate war movies but my friends convinced me to go because it was less than 2 hours and I've been mad at movies being more than two and a half hours lately (looking at u House of Gucci, Doctor Strange 2) yeah, I cried my eyes out. It's not a perfect movie but the message is great and very moving. I don't like the English title because the original/French title directly refers the name of a group of African soldier recruited by France in its colonies during WWI -> "Les Tirailleurs" (if I remember well, the soldiers were recruited in every colonies but they left Africa from the Senegal and so all these soldiers are referred as Senegalese regardless of their actual origins). The English title is more fitting thematically wise I'll give you that.
Fulmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009)
Knew about it, was recommended by a dear mutual of mine on this very hellsite and yeah, ppl keep saying it's good because it just is.
I told sunset about you/ I promised you the moon (2020-2021)
If you read my tags u know how I rant about this show often. Watched it 2 years ago thanks to someone i follow on Tumblr (but im not really sure who it was anyway if you're a mutual thank you sm). My first foray into BL (back when I didn't even know what it was) and I couldn't be happier that I started with this. I don't have enough words to praise it. (currently writing a post about it tho, stay tuned for whenever I get around to finish it (tell me if u wanna know when it's up), big up to Bad Buddy and To My Star too)
Honoured mentions bc I started making a list and had more than 8 and couldn't not mention them:
Other movies: O'brother, Love and Leashes, God's own country, Jackie Brown, The big lebowsky (idek if I like this movie but I needed something to base my personality around when I was 15yo)
The book The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo, I'm gonna keep my rant about how the English title is a misunderstanding of the book locked and not even start it.
Alice isn't dead and The Magnus archives (although they're podcasts and I haven't quite finished them, the first seasons are exquisite)
Welcome to Night Vale, I have a lot of episodes to catch up on (currently working on that) started listening like in 2016 then stopped around idek 2 years ago. Some of these episodes are masterpieces ( some I know by heart: Guidelines for disposal, Love is a shambling thing, What happened at the Smithwick House, If he had lived, and The Pilot ofc)
the ballet Swan Lake (1995, 2012) by Matthew Bourne. I don't have enough words. I'll just say it's on youtube.
.....and many more im not think abt rn
*acts surprised* this became a real long post, real quick
(That's why I take a lot of time to answer those lmao, shout out and thank you to the ppl who tag me in these and then I take a lot of time to answer)
Tagging these people and anyone who wants to do it can mention me: @sherlockig @dontbesoevil @lordmeowdemort @namelessbeing @hairbackc0llarup @comrademichael @johnlockdynamic @lovelywickedsoul @frenchsiren
#tagged#ask game#yeah this could have gone on for a lil while#i have some ive yet to answer but its coming#i have many rants locked if u wanna know about them just ask#thanks for tagging me#platypustalks

💗 Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Spread the self-love! 💗
okay i famously am not a joiner so i don't know that i will reciprocate (but open call to @skyirons my fandom hopping bestie ilu) but thank you for asking!
i think most people on here followed me originally for hacks but i am a bit of a fandom hopper and a rarepair lover so this list will run the gamut:
"Til Sunbeams Find You," Dead to Me. Jen/Judy summer camp counselor AU.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/2526286
I don't love this fic for the writing, but for the fact that someone hopped into the comments and asked me if i was on stan twitter (i was not, but i made a fuckin' account), and thereby introduced me to some of my now very dear friends. Was DTM fandom a hot fucking mess? Yes. Do we ever need to talk about s3 Again? No. Did my DTM standom give me MS? Inconclusive. But this silly show and trying to make these two characters kiss got me through some hard times and i'll always be grateful!
2. "5 Times Mary Jo Shively Almost Kissed Julia Sugarbaker (and One Time She Did)," Designing Women, Mary Jo/Julia (natch)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/21707404
Just what it says on the tin! Someone commented on this fic recently so I reread it (love to never recall anything I've ever written) and it was fun! THE SUBTEXT IS SO STRONG in canon and yet there's not near enough fic imo. Due for a DW rewatch, is what I'm saying. I always enjoy getting to write southern characters as someone who's lived in Appalachia all my life 🫡
(this fic is also one i could show my twin without having to redact the smutty bits lmaooooo)
3. "who's gonna lay in your lonely bed, who's gonna love you like me?" Dragon Age, Bethany/Isabela
https://archiveofourown.org/works/36349606
I'm sure Dreadwolf will get me back into the DA trenches but Bethany/Isabela has gotta be my rarepair otp. I seldom want to read a player character fic for an RPG (with the exception of maybe FemShep); I'm always drawn to pairing off the sidekicks. There's just so much AFFECTION between Isabela and Bethany in the party banter, and Bethany gets such a short end of the stick by the narrative that I really had to let her get her world rocked by the swarthy sailor with a heart of gold.
4. "in the morning i will sing," Baldur's Gate 3, Jaheira/Karlach
https://archiveofourown.org/works/55430185
Most recent fic is always gonna be on the fave fic list, that's just the way it goes. In my first playthrough of bg3 my character pined for Jaheira unrequitedly and in my second I'm romancing Karlach as Shadowheart, so why not combine the two into some smut with a side of party banter! And I clearly have a thing for a bit of an age gap/hero worship dynamic as evidenced by *gestures at ao3 account*
(also tr*cy w*les's chronically online era is not helping my jaheira fixation... love that she ships her with everybody tho we stan an absolute icon)
5. "ring the bells that still can ring," Hacks, Deborah/Ava
https://archiveofourown.org/works/32184166
firstly: i wrote this fic so i could make that shrek/leonard cohen joke. i'm sorry, or you're welcome, as appropriate.
secondly: i wrote this fic before so many things happened! hacks season 2, developing an incurable progressive chronic illness, getting married myself!
my wife rarely reads my fic (they support it fully! including meeting fandom friends on our honeymoon lmaoo luv u [redacted]). but i will occasionally gently ask if they'll take a peek at something, because, well, they're the person that taught me everything i know about love, so it goes into the writing!
it took them a long time to read this fic (or it at least felt like it), but when they did, they sent me a notesapp full of annotated reactions... 6 months later , after a decade together, they proposed in a drivethru.
which is to say: i'm pretty sure this fic is the reason i'm currently married, so it will always be my favorite <3

I just made a hilarous discovery while rewatching Shrek 2
So like a little backup info
In hungarian dubbing, musical numbers sung by characters in movie (like Disney songs) are usually translated and dubbed. As a result Shrek was also new in that it had pop songs with the og english vocals in them.
But in Shrek 2 something weird occurs because you have an in movie character, the fairy godmother sing a pop song...
And they translated it! And before you cringe that it probably lost a lot of its meaning, nope it didn't, the translated lyrics are even better and have a lot of that "this is kinda for adults" vibe Shrek in general does.
A great example, when Jennifer Saunders sings the final line right as Charming is about to kiss Fiona, in english it goes like this:
"He's gotta be strong, he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight!"
The hungarian dub on the other hand-
I'm just gonna mirror translate it:
"Who has the smarts and the bold wishes and hits the spot in the bed too!"
(better translation would be "and doesn't miss in the bed either!")
And this line appears twice in the song, once right at the end and also a bit earlier when Shrek is storming the castle.
And you know the best part? They time it so when "and hits the spot in the bed too" is sung, they're showing Charming make that suggestive face!
Aka hungarian dubbing made Shrek have a very very obvious "adult joke" and I can't believe I didn't notice something was off as a kid.

Songs for Hazbin Hotel Characters (Playlist Series) PART 1
Starting a new series which I will try to update once in a while! Isn’t this exciting? Basically, the idea was to take various songs/music from different artists and those who were used in various pieces of media. Then I shall try to match the best ones to the beloved characters. Might be off but hey, we’re having fun!
Part one is supposed to be quite special, right? Well, what can be more special than an animated movie series that shaped a lot of people? Indeed, we’re talking about Shrek. Okay, 1 and 2 were the OG’s but third had some laughs and fourth was actually nice. So, I’ll be ranking Hazbin crew based on how much they would enjoy Shrek series, plus – a song that would be up to their alley.
ANGEL
This man would love Shrek series so much! You cannot prove otherwise! It would be right up his humor type – funny, yet sometimes suggestive. Guys, can you imagine him with Fairy Godmother’s red dress? Or rocking Prince Charming’s look? Actually, give me a sexy man – boy chauffeur Kyle! Well, at least can Angel be my fairy godmother? That would be fun. You know what, he’ll get two songs!
youtube
This is his morning routine song. Or when he needs to give someone a makeover.
youtube
This just screams to me about how cool Angel really is. Turf war must song!
Favourite character – Doris. A literal icon. Also, he would kin Snow White.
CHARLIE
Upon first time viewing Shrek series, she would find it so fun! In my humble opinion, she would quote or try to incorporate its life lessons into her “How to Get to Heaven” course. Charlie would happily rewatch it time and time again.
youtube
Is this song not about her journey to save a princess, I mean, to save sinners’ souls?
Favourite character – all of them! Just one? How about Donkey? He’s funny!
VAGGIE
The only person who saw Shrek in her live life. I feel like Vaggie would be chill about Shrek. Not a huge fan but still loves it. She would feel so nostalgic while watching the series. Vaggie would enjoy seeing others’ reactions while viewing the films – jokes, twists, music, everything! The only new movie would be “Puss in Boots: The Last wish” which would be incredibly endearing to her.
youtube
This song is just silly enough to be one of her favourites. Vaggie’s and Charlie’s new song!
Favourite character – Fiona. Fighter princess who takes no shit from anyone.
NIFFTY
She would not find Shrek in top of her favourites. I think she would like it only for the romance plot lines. Also, princesses and Far Far Away parts would make her really happy. Humor would be a hit or miss, except for some jokes. She would think that all the animals are really cute, especially Puss in Boots!
youtube
She would vibe to this song, I already feel it!
Favourite character – Prince Charming. She knows that he’s a jerk and everything but she’s gotta admit, that Charming makes her hotter than July.
HUSK
He would only watch Shrek for “the sake of the kids”. Shrek wouldn’t be his cup of tea, I believe. Although! Husk would love slapstick comedy. Also, all the “Poison Apple” tavern scenes and fighting segments.
youtube
His kin song, you have to agree.
Favourite character – Shrek. You would think that it is a basic answer but his actions are the most understandable to Husk. Loneliness besties.
ALASTOR
He would not like Shrek. Like, at all. Just not his taste. He promised to watch all 4 films to Charlie but nothing more – no shorts, no “Puss in Boots”. Alastor only enjoyed the second one for a little bit, mostly for the Fairy Godmother’s scheme.
youtube
If he must choose a song, let it be this one. Least annoying.
Favourite character – Fairy Godmother. The best villain and the best musical number.
That’s my takes and the end of part 1. Hope you had fun reading it and revisited some nostalgic songs! I for sure will be holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night!

"THEEEE GREAT MAMMON???"
"Is he trying to shake me down? Come get your man before I shake HIM down, meet me in a dark alley fool"
"Oh. Ugh, I don't like any of these options." "Yeah you should get used to that. It's a common reoccurance."
"Hi Beel UwU"

"Is your man like, all there?" "Why do you ask?" "He was just laughing about me being able to get a pact and that the demon must be dumb as hell. Dude, YOU'RE the demon, this happed YESTERDAY"
*3rd day playing* "I got a UR card!" "Congratulations, but fuck you"

then do a part 3!
(also wdym pretty crucial scene?)
ok somehow this is still going on so favourite small jake and amy moments, part 3!
here’s the link to the first 2 parts if ure interested:
part 1, part 2
“everything’s fine” scene-
starting off with an emotional scene! when i first watched this scene, i cried SO much. just seeing jake say that with that weak smile, knowing that yes he feels more comforted talking to amy but he still doesn’t know when he’ll actually get to properly see and talk to her :( this broke me and even now if i were to rewatch the scene, i will cry i definitely will.
jake and amy talking about their experience babysitting terry’s kids-
this is basically the first time we hear them talk about kids tgt, so ofc a memorable moment. but something i love about this scene is not just how u can tell they love kids, but jake’s smile while amy talks about kids. he definitely was thinking about the future in which he has kids with her! literally that’s the smile of a man who wants to have kids with her! and amy’s enthusiasm was the absolute cutest my bb 🥺🥺 anyways yea such a cute scene and now they have their own kiddo 🥺
the way jake and amy look at each other before they kiss in the s6 finale-
i mean we can all agree that we were all mad about this scene, cuz we didn’t get to see the kiss. but sometime i love about this scene is how they just look at each other and decide “hey i wanna kiss you rn”. all those mfs gotta do is look into each other’s eyes they really can have a whole convo by just looking at each other. (also amy’s so cute in this 🥰) they had no reason to kiss but they did cuz they just love kissing each other god. (i also understand they most probably kissed cus dan goor wanted to play around with us but im not considering that)
jake putting socks on amy’s feet on the coldest night of the year-
anon reminded me of this scene and i cannot believe i didn’t add this sooner!! it’s always the smallest things that i absolutely love so knowing this small detail just made me so 🥰💝💕💗💞💖💝. and that fool didn’t even take credit for it ifkdjjfjdjd. love these glimpses of domestic peraltiago
when they find out they’re having a boy-
THEIR EXCITEMENT WAS THE ABSOLUTE CUTEST SERIOUSLY TO SEE THE BOTH OF THEM THAT HAPPY MADE MY HEART MELT SERIOUSLY! they’re so cute in this ☹️☹️ they love their little shrek so much and this scene is just proof of how excited they were to meet their little baby (amy went from making the decision to give up trying to finding out she’s having a baby boy in the same room 🥺 so many breakroom parallels can be made)
jake helping amy get up in lights out-
fun fact: when i saw this in the promo, i broke down and cried so much i’m not even joking. it wasn’t even a one second clip but i actually broke down. cuz of the way they smile at each other and how they seem SO IN LOVE! and amy’s baby bump 🥺🥺 so mac is technically in this scene too. whenever i watch the ep i play this scene over and over like at least 10 times it’s a problem. but i’m obsessed with this small scene like if i wanna mention a small peraltiago scene, it’s a must i bring this scene up!
#i could still go on help#i really have that many#do y’all like these though?#i have fun making them!#fav small jake and amy scenes#b99#brooklyn nine nine#jake x amy#peraltiago#amy santiago#jake peralta

Good Stuff: Best of 2020
I don’t need to say much about how this year sucked. What matters is that if you’re reading this, congrats because you made it through and you’ll know that animation in 2020 has certainly made its marks as much this year as it did the last. Effort was still made to provide some of the best entertainment imaginable, and I’m here to provide the TOP TEN BEST entertainment I’ve experienced and loved this year. With that said, let’s get to it…
10. Sonic Rebuilt
I’ll admit, I don’t like the Sonic Movie. It was not a good film to me & while I’m holding out for the sequel, I genuinely never want to see it again. But like Biden to Trump, the people behind Shrek Retold gave us a reanimated telling of the Sonic 1996 OVA. Like Shrek Retold, it offers a compelling new light to the OVA and while the original is much cleaner, and it’s not the most hype thing to come from Sonic overall, the imaginative cauldron of artists that put into this makes it far more rewatchable.
9. Central Park
I knew after watching Bob’s Burgers that creator Loren Bouchard would eventually make a musical cartoon and I’m glad I was right. Central Park is a first for me where it’s an animated musical that isn’t a film or only occasional like Steven Universe or Adventure Time and while it isn’t the best plotwise, the numbers themselves were heartfelt and sometimes catchy. There’s a struggle in being episodic and serialized, and it’s a slow burn to connect with the characters, but this was admirable in its experimentation and I’m interested in the direction season two will go.
8. Interspecies Reviewers
The first horny anime I can safely say was never an off-putting or one-note gag fest; that’s gotta count for something. The momentum of this series never truly dies and even when there were a couple times where I just wasn’t feeling it, they pull me back with something ten-fold entertaining. Fresh variety is what I can describe this series at its best, it knew how to keep things going and growing even when it’s otherwise formulaic. All the while, this series never felt tasteless; it really felt structured and gallantly clear-minded in what it wants to show. Plus, it has Crimveal who next to Steven Universe is the best boy of 2020. Of course this show ain’t for everyone but my god, it does so much right for me upon most ecchi stuff.
7. Primal
I wanna believe this was what Genndy Tartakovsky always wanted to make after Samurai Jack ended (well, the 2nd time). This show really exhibits his many techniques in direction, like you can tell this is his work if you’ve seen his other shows. Primal always feels like the culmination of all that’s he towards as a man of animation. Even with the roars and the harsh sounds of violence, this is the only cartoon that never says anything but conveys everything so vibrantly. This admittedly isn’t my favorite piece from Genndy, but it definitely made it’s way to the top three.
6. Team Fabulous 2 Reanimated/Suponjibobu Anime
We got a tie here because these I especially felt brought people together. Suponjibobu brought people together to celebrate Spongebob Squarepants like never before, making it as legendary this year as Mr. Krabs Overdoses on Ketamine. A beginning to a series long in the making and can hopefully go for more as animation on Youtube has certainly delivered.
The Team Fabulous 2 Collab was where a community came together to honor the creator to one of the most recognized fanworks for a game that has stood the test of time. Like Sonic Rebuilt, it’ll never replace the original but god damn it’s like the stars aligned, especially after we were dealt with another loss this year, where we could appreciate TF2 for the culturally powerful game that it is.
5. Crash Bandicoot, It’s About Time
I’ll say again but this game feels like a dream. A good, fresh looking, fun to play Crash Bandicoot game that feels like the gamiest game this year after all the discourse surrounding Last of Us 2 and plenty other shit surrounding the game industry, Nintendo included. Like, I just gotta appreciate this. It’s by no means the greatest Crash game, the completion journey is horrifying, but my god it was a great game to jump into again and again. It feels like a testament to what Crash can be in the modern era and I certainly want more of it. Bugsnax is objectively game of the year if not Hades, but Crash 4 is my personal GOTY.
4. Glitch Techs
It’s the gamer equivalent to Men in Black, that’s enough of a seller. From the people behind Fanboy & Chum Chum, it’s genius well-animated, realized, and not immediately dated. It’s a mind-boggling crime Nickelodeon isn’t treating this show better because it deserves recognition as an innovative idea. It does a lot right and it’s a worthwhile action series up there with Rise of the TMNT that’s worth the risk to give it more of an audience as opposed to just thinking it’ll be the next Spongebob. If it’s future is anything, I enjoyed this series and there’s nothing like it.
3. Wolfwalkers
This was an animated film with the most personality to me in a long while, with the most memorable look to it, compelling leads, and animation that really made its mark in the moments that mattered. I’ll agree with other reviewers that, outside Mebh who is the greatest and besterest girl of 2020, it's a simple story but it’s effectively simple. Beside the 3rd act which was noticeably long, the moments flow one after another fluently and you really get the struggle between two immediate friends that are shackled with responsibilities their parents didn’t want to put on them. Like Netflix’s Klaus, it all comes together like a beautifully seasonal tapestry. Worth watching and supporting is the best I can tell you for this film.
2. Elinor Wonders Why
This is my most personal of personal choice for the list; like True and the Rainbow Kingdom, it’s the one that helped pick me up after being in a slump for most of this year. I’ve always had an interest in understanding the fundamentals of nature, and this show encourages thinking about the wonders of science, where something as simple as a feather can make you wonder of its many shapes, abilities, and functionality. It appealed to me in the best way that it does more than represents your existence but deep down represents why you are the way you are with your interests and the flexibility of your outlook. I wish it was number one but it did enough to make the top of this list.
1. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken
I mean what else could be number one? This is the most ‘anime’ anime I have ever seen. The story, characters, and world building are at their most realized. I can’t imagine anyone other than Science Saru, with the based Yuasa, animating this with the style it has. Every episode is an engaging puzzle to every 4th episode where it all culminates with the in-universe final product of our Eizouken trio. It’s so compellingly meta it hurts as I could gush about every single detail that went into this series both in universe and the real behind the scenes. But what makes this the greatest is how nothing feels contrived, everything in this anime exists for something and the obstacles our characters face are things you’d definitely face in you were in there shoes. It’s energy is what really carried me through this year and I can safely say this is one of my all time favorites. And it really says don’t give up believing and working for better things to come, because if art like this can be made nearly flawlessly, it’s always worth carrying on to see something just as great if not greater. That’s why this is a masterpiece to me...
Then again...

What's on your TUA3 song wish list??
Okay! This got me excited because I’ve thought about it so much. A lot of the stuff I listen to is like...... perfect for this soundtrack like I Do Not Know new music at all (I sound like a hipster but well I was raised on my hipster dad’s music fghjgfds) so here we go!
1. 100% an ABBA song. I know this is a popular one, but I grew up on ABBA and I love them with all my heart. I’m personally advocating for Voulez Vous because it just fucks so right for a fight scene.
2. California Dreamin’ by The Mamas & The Papas. Kind of a similar vibe to Hotel California but I just love how this one sounds. Could be played over a happy scene or a really fucked up scene and it would somehow still work.
3. The Times They Are A-Changin by Bob Dylan because I love him and it fits with the previous 60′s plot and the whole “wtf did we do to the timeline now” plot for season 3. It is a bit mellow and sad, though, so alternatively:
4. Changes by David Bowie! This could be because I just rewatched Shrek 2 but shhh... I would die if this one made the cut.
5. Different Drum by Stone Poneys. This one would also be so good over a fucked up scene for some reason. Idk I just like it and I like the vibe.
6. Gonna embarrass myself by really sounding like a hipster but White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. This song has been used over and over for trippy scenes / creepy scenes so I think it would work so well with the hotel or perhaps a hallucination.
7. A classical piece! Like maybe some Beethoven, like in season 1 (I’m really thinking of A Clockwork Orange here)
8. The End by The Doors because we need more Jim and I will die on this hill. Could be used in a Vietnam flashback scene (not that we’ll get one but who knows!) or maybe just any Klaus-centric scene. I really love Apocalypse Now, guys. Alternatively: People Are Strange!! (Or Love Her Madly. Honestly any Doors song would make me happy)
9. Magic Man by Heart. They used Barracuda in season 1 and my soul ascended. This one makes me think of Luther or Diego.
10. Roxanne by The Police because it’s just... I love it so much. I know it’s about like, a dude telling a sex worker she shouldn’t do her job, but lyrics aside it kind of makes me think of Lila.
11. The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. Another popular choice, but listen. I love Fleetwood Mac so dearly and when this was used in Guardians of the Galaxy it fucked so hard. I imagine a similar vibe if it were to be used in tua. Like the whole family together, doing some superhero shit. Or maybe the Sparrows!
12. Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce. (Look, I know I’m using another song from a superhero movie BUT) this song has such a Five vibe, I love it. It could work really well for any of the siblings, though, which is why I love it. (Put this song over a slo-mo scene and I’m yours)
13. 99 Luftballoons by Nena. Perfect for apocalyptic stuff. (I only listened to the English version as a kid for some reason? But they both slap anyway)
14. Na Na Na by MCR, obviously! So good for fight scenes or not. Just works either way.
15. If Immigrant Song is not in this soundtrack I’m going to personally fight the writers.
16. Call Me by Blondie. I can’t explain this one. It’s just one you gotta feel. I’m thinking of Allison or Klaus?
17. Cloudbusting by Kate Bush because I’m obsessed with it.
18. Rebel Girl by Bikini Kill. Not so sure about this one but it makes me think of some of the Sparrows and maybe Lila, or Allison being a badass.
19. And I’m hopping on the Rasputin bandwagon because it fucks.
I really wanted to add a Cranberries song and a Queen song and some Jimi Hendrix but I’m drawing a blank for ones that might fit the tone!
#this was so much fun????#and i'm happy with it so i'm tagging it sdfghfds thank you nonnie this was a lot of fun <3333#tua#the umbrella academy#tua season 3

So I finally played The Wolf Among Us
Being the big bad wolf fan that I am, I’d been dying to get my hands on the game after seeing images of Bigby floating around pinterest. Then I found out it was discounted around 50% yesterday and I knew I GOTTA have it.
Here’s a not-so-short rundown of my thoughts since no one’d read my full review anyway. Also, bear in mind that I never read the graphic novels so I’ll be judging the characters and plot solely on the first and (currently) only game. Spoilers under the cut!
The good:
Bigby. God I ENJOYED playing as him. There was great satisfaction being able to play this rough, potentially dangerous character and see him grow into this person that Fabletown finally grows to accept. During my first playthrough, I wasn’t able to play him as a brutal, full blown anti-hero because I need to keep him on the community’s good side. I’m definitely gonna replay the chapters and choose the more violent options and see him go full badass wolf on everyone. Speaking of badass, I constantly kept thinking to myself “Wow, I’d LOVE to play as him in an action game.” That one big fight scene against Bloody Mary made me go “You’re doing great, sweetie! Keep it up!”
The story definitely got me hooked. There wasn’t a time when I wished a speed button was available unlike Hashihime in the Old Book Town where I got bored during a sex scene.
It didn’t remind me of Happily N’ever After and its forced self-awareness that borders on annoying. Mini rant: I love when stories are set in a world where fairy tale characters meet and interact with each other, but that doesn’t mean every work that does it interests me because the handling of the theme may not quite work (for me at least). I haven’t rewatched Shrek, but I never rolled my eyes every time they make a joke about a fairytale character. I never watched Once Upon a Time but I feel it’s gonna be a pretty mixed bag? It’s just weird seeing all these adult characters taking the whole thing seriously and not in an endearingly self-aware kind of way. The Wolf Among Us kinda did it nicely in that yeah, these were fairy tale characters. Let’s see them work their way as poor people living in New York. I like how they take on the poverty angle because it kinda reminds me of my country, sorta.
To my surprise, the fight scenes DID IT for me. It’s satisfying to be able to beat the shit outta people I wanted to punch from the very beginning of the game (the Tweedles and Mary. Boy I wanted to see them banged up real badly). To be honest, I never played these Telltale games and I had my doubts about the combat mechanics. Turns out they were done pretty well. Also, I can’t shut up about the final brawl against Mary because....Big Bad Boi.
The meh:
Most of the character designs didn’t wow me. I could name the characters whose design I liked: Bigby, Georgie, Flycatcher, Bluebeard. The rest? Not so much. Some characters like Nerissa were a hit-or-miss while the rest are predictable (Bufkin, Crane, etc) or completely forgettable (Faith and Vivian’s design. Faith’s was at least memorable because her introduction was). The worst one, to me, was Bloody freakin’ Mary. Her design was simply underwhelming. I absolutely adored her true form, but her glamored form was simply...not there. I understand they don’t want to play the edgy up to eleven which was probably why they didn’t make her tattoo-ed up like Georgie (which is a shame because her emblem has a cool design. Imagine the cool tattoos she could’ve had), but her design was just half-assed (to me anyway). Not gonna lie, I actually was hooked up by her first appearance —a tough looking enemy with big butch energy —and then she opened her mouth and she sounds like fucking Bayonetta. This is probably just my personal taste, but I hate the femme fatale villain trope to death and I hate seeing this masculine lady sounding like a generic seductive villainess. Plus, I didn’t see her much during my playthrough so she ended up NOT coming across a real threat or a worthy opponent to Bigby, just a violent bully I need to get through.
The love interest character’s development was a mixed bag. I didn’t hate Snow White (like some people seem to do), but I was disappointed that she drifted away from Bigby before she gets the chance to solidify herself as his equal and partner. I know she marries him in the graphic novels, but I didn’t quite root for them to be together in the game. Mostly because of the boss-employee dynamic they had towards the end of the game, but it’s also because I also started to see how she didn’t grow to be somebody who understands Bigby and the plight of the non-human characters of Fabletown (case in point being Mr. Toad and TJ). She keeps saying that she does understand what life is like for people like Holly and I did sympathize with her when she talks to Bigby about her wanting to make Fabletown a better place, but the plot cuts her development once she has to act as Deputy Major in Crane’s place. She eventually becomes affixed as a cog in the machine. Sure, she’s needed to keep the system running, but her insisting on going by the (outdated) book just didn’t work I kept getting reminded of Louis from Beastars and how got his character development was. In Louis’ case, he started out as an covert bigot who strongarms his way to obtain authority, thinking he’d be able to make the world a better place. He does make good out of it, but we also see him coming to terms with his vulnerability which leads him to reach out towards other people with the same goals. Simply put, he changed from a know-it-all who wants to change the world so they’d suit his own views better to someone who genuinely wants to make a difference for other people. This....kinda doesn’t happen with Snow White. It’s probably because the POV (who stays on Bigby the entire time) or they’re saving her character development for the sequel; we can’t really tell until Season 2 comes out.
Speaking of which, how does being a giant, fearsome wolf in disguise reflect on Bigby’s relationship with other animal characters like Mr. Toad? I thought there was some potential in contrasting Mr Toad’s inability to afford glamor and Bigby having his lycantrophy knife handed to him by Snow. I imagine the animal townsfolk would take jabs at him having the privilege to remain constantly human without having to constantly return to the 13th floor but it never happened.
The resolution of the Crooked Man’s plot felt rushed and I was disappointed with how they handled the organized crime plot. It was built to be a grand scheme beyond Crane and the murder of the girls, but they resolved it way too quickly. It’s probably just me, but when you have organized crime and financial exploitation by (persumedly) a mafia, do you expect the villain to have their ass handed back to them in two chapters after their buildup?I mean, during Bigby and Crooked Man’s confrontation at the factory, I kept expecting the Crooked Man to make his escape after the battle against Mary — him being immediately dragged to court was anti-climatic. Does it really take that short a time to take down a big, magical mafia boss? Shouldn’t he have other witches at his beck and call (the secret lab at Johann’s place definitely hinted at that!)
I won’t refute if somebody brings up the lack of diversity in the entire cast. As far as I know, there was only one black person and they didn’t do anything with her character. I thought It would be nice if we get to see POC characters like Aladdin or Yeh-Shen (or replace Aladdin with Sinbad or Ali Baba if we want to go for total accuracy). It doesn’t help that the predominantly white characters look generic. Heck, some of the girls could have some variety in body shapes. For example, why not make Holly be a big beautiful woman? If you don’t want to make her morbidly obese, at least make her look heavier. You know, because she’s a troll. No, her wanting to look beautiful by concealing her troll form doesn’t work. Her wanting to be her own kind of beautiful (especially according to Troll standards) can be contrasted nicely to Lily having to wear her human skin because she needs to cater to her clientele, thus further emphasizing her lack of choice in her employment to Guido (and by extent the Crooked Man).
How long has it been since the exodus? Why is the Fabletown government still this terrible? I really want to be able to see the demographic at a bigger scope. For example, I’d like to see more of the dynamic between people like Bluebeard and the people at the Business Office. Also, what’s up with people with various problems going straight up to the Business Office? Do they not have accountants? How do they handle the legal stuff with the mundies? Who’s handling legal? The organization at the Business Office is just...weird. I thought they’d have some sort of higher council since I thought they’d need a bigger power to keep more powerful magic beings (like the witches) in place. Are things done better in the graphic novel?
Some of the animation lagged/look really janky on my Envy 13 laptop. Also, I encountered a bug at the beginning of some chapters where choices show up when they don’t need to, as well as some weird cuts during scene. Had to exit and reboot the game to proceed.
That’s all I can think of now. Feel free to send an ask so we can gush about the husbando material that is Bigby Wolf if you have other opinions!

It looks like no one has done this one yet so Dreamworks for the ask game
Nope, no one has! Thanks for asking! ^o^
the first character i ever fell in love with: ...huh. *blinks slowly* Part of me wants to scream Miguel, but while that is like the oldest DreamWorks movie that I love and thus was probably the first I actually saw, I did not like it when I watched it as a kid and thusly probably did not like him either... the first DreamWorks character I fell in love with may... actually be... Puss in Boots from Shrek?? DreamWorks, while I love their older movies a lot by now, was not something I enjoyed as a kid and only rediscovered later, after Shrek and Madagascar came out
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: don’t think I have anyone on whom I turned in this direction. Only the other way around *chuckles*
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: I suppose Aster and Jack? I shipped them hella hard when I first fell in love with Rise of the Guardians but don’t quite care for it anymore
my ultimate favorite character™: JACKSON OVERLAND FROST
prettiest character: well, prettiest is actually easy. Again Jack Frost
my most hated character: hate is such a strong wo---never mind I just remembered that Valka from How to Train Your Dragon 2 qualifies so like THAT HER YEAH
my OTP: Hiccup Haddock and Jack Frost
my NOTP: like non-crossover, we stay in DreamWorks only, I would say Chel and Tulio. I hate when A Chick gets in the way of A Bromance. Particularly when the chick was actually just retconned in because they chickened out on making them canon gay. Which. Tulio and Miguel were supposed to be. So, it’s kind of resentment on DreamWorks backing out on giving us the first major gay animated children’s movie. And that they then retconned in this incredibly oversexualized character... it... it genuinely makes me uncomfortable? Oversexualized characters in children’s media usually have that effect on me
favorite episode: Rise of the Guardians, hands down. It is the only movie in existence that still, even after over fifty views, gets my full and undivided attention when I turn it on. Most movies don’t even get that on the first view, but when I put that movie on, I can’t write or draw or do anything else I usually do because this is visually so stunning and I still love the story and characters so much that I have to pay attention to it
saddest death: ...Jack Frost? No wait. They killed Stoick. No wait I decided that didn’t happen so like not that. Okay I have decided to keep it Jack Frost *nods*
favorite season: We’re taking that as franchise again, like we did with Disney. Mh. Tough. Like, How to Train Your Dragon probably has to win based on the show, because I love the show. But then the second and third movie are also in it and oooof that drags it down some so... But I guess on the overall, this is my favorite franchise. @ DreamWorks pls make Rise of the Guardians a franchise and finally give me a show I am literally begging you on my knees
least favorite season: least favorite DreamWorks franchise. This is harder. There are so many DreamWorks tie-in shows that I just... genuinely do not care to even try out so I can’t really judge them. Guess I gotta go with The Horse Movie. Because that was just a disaster. Woulda been improved if you had let the horses talk. Like seriously how do you make an animated movie about animals and don’t let them talk???? Who thought that was a good idea? And then it’s about horses...
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: Interesting. Mh. I guess a lot of people find Po from Kung Fu Panda great and like a positive representation, body-wise, but... I loathe that overused carricature of fat people and don’t see anything empowering or charming in him and genuinely couldn’t even finish my rewatch of these movies because I found it too upsetting
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: Megamind. The character. He’s a trash boi but I love him lol
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Again, Jack Frost, who, seriously, deserves more than just one movie!!!
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: I... guess to many that’d be the Aster/Jack ship? Xenophilia that can be read as bestiality, he’s like physically seventeen, he’s also dead so it’s like kinda necrophilia I guess?? But like genuinely also: One is a 300 year old ghost and the other is an alien who happens to look like an oversized bunny so I just truly do not give a fuck.
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: Shrek and Fiona maybe??

i rewatched shrek 2 while i was sewing last night (i rewatch shrek 2 like, maybe twice a year. love that movie) but this time, after watching it i was thinkin abt how strong the beginning and end of the movie are, but some sections in the middle i'm not a fan of.
the two parts i have issue with are the introduction scene of puss in boots, and then later when gingy/three blind mice/pinocchio are breaking shrek & the gang out of jail.
so like: first one. the puss in boots introduction scene. everything up until this part is like, the best ever (i love shrek 2) and i like the motivations going into the scene. the thing that falls flat for me is the shift from puss being an enemy to an ally? it feels too fast or without much reason.
i get that the puss in boots story has him lying about his abilities, so maybe the point here is supposed to be "he is yet again lying, and in this case he lied about his ability to kill an ogre" but like.... he is never established (either prior to this scene or after) to be a liar? the characters at the bar direct the king to puss in boots because they believe he can kill an ogre, after this scene his defining characteristic is that he's like. skilled in combat and other things lmao.
like idk man, he changes his tune cause they saved his life... but like you only saved his life by not killing him when he was defenseless because of a hairball???????? dude, you're a cat. this is like.. normal for you right??? i get that you got in over your head, but your role in the movie is shifting so drastically in such a short span of time, and i'm not feeling like your motivations are shifting to match it.
what makes it worse is that i love everything AROUND this. like a fav scene for me in shrek 2 is the shrek having trouble sleeping section. and then right after this, the transition of goals in remembering the fairy godmother reads so well too! this one just falls sooooo flat for me.
and then the breaking out of jail part. it's another case of character motivations not matching whats happening in the movie. like up until that part it's been well established that shrek is like, defeated to the fact that 'maybe fionna is better off without him'... but then gingy/3 blind mice/pinocchio see him on tv and break them out of jail and shreks like 'jk i need to be with my wife.'
like what makes it worse is that donkey literally is like "wait i thought you thought she's better off without you?" and shreks like "idk i changed my mind :("
LIKE PLEASE.... GIVE ME MORE MOTIVATION ON THIS SHIFT. like he could have changed his mind because of finding out the fairy godmother and prince charming are related (doesn't require any changes in story structure) or he could have been told something that shifted his pov (such as him finding out somehow about fionna's unhappiness with the situation) but instead it's just like.... guys!! we gotta fight at the castle so we can have our Holding Out for a Hero scene!! i've changed my stance accordingly!!
it's just like idk man 😭 i love shrek 2, but it's weird noticing there's this dissonance between where the story is supposed to be going, and how they conveyed the shifts in character motivations moving from scene to scene.

i am incredibly sad that i only have like, 1 extra adderall left (i may have to find somewhere to buy more from, since i only get like, enough for the month with my prescription, the only reason i had extras this month is bc it took a week for me to be able to get my prescription filled, so i literally had to go a week w/o adderall and i don’t wanna do that again, ever, it was hell, esp bc i ran out of sudafed, too, that week) bc holy fucking shit am i awake. i’m getting so much done. i took a shower and then highlighted all of the units in my script, which is usually hard to focus on bc it’s so dull, and i got another 15 units done, so i’ve only got like 30 left and i’m still wide awake and focused AF. like, i’m p sure that colors have smells, but also, like, the world is so intense and amazing. i feel fucking fantastic. i kinda wanna go skydiving, but like, not until i get my hw done, ya know?
but i’ve got 30 more units to do, then i’ve gotta make a graph, but after that, i’m done with the project and can move on. depending on how i feel/what time it is when i get that done (bc if it’s past 3:30/4a, i can’t sleep, i’ve got to stay up bc if not, i won’t wake up in time for class, but also, if i still feel this awake, then there’s rly no point to sleeping bc i won’t be able to, anyway) i might sleep, or i might start working on my playwriting assignment (bc that’s due mon @ 2p and i’ve got to write 6 1-min monologues for my characters) and watch the first 30min of shrek: the musical (bc i gotta have that done by fri @ 9a bc we’re watching it in class and that’s where we’re picking up at since the audio wouldn’t work in class, so it’s hw to watch the first 30 of it, but we can watch all of it, if we want, idk if i will, i’ve got too much to do and if i watch all of it, then there’ll be no point of going to class bc i hate rewatching things bc i’ve got a damn near eidetic memory for movies/books and certain other things, depending on how much i’m paying attention, but almost always books/movies unless i find them boring and don’t care abt them, so it would be stupid to watch all of it and then be bored in class), then maybe read some of after the fall (the script i’m pulling my monologue from for acting i) and do the assignment that goes with that (bc it’s due tues @ 9:30a). after that i should do my therapy hw (we’re still working on stuck points and i’ve got like, 5 more sheets, maybe more, to fill out) bc that’ll be due at my next counselling appt, which i think is next week, i’ll have to call them, but it’ll take abt an hour and it’ll emotionally drain me.
i think that’s abt it for hw, tho, but all of that’ll take roughly 9 hours, which means i def won’t be able to do it all tonight, but i can get most of it done if i don’t sleep, which means i’ll have more time for sleep/writing/literally everything else on the weekend. i might even be lucky enough to be able to get drunk. maybe. i’d have to start drinking at like, 3p and stop at like, 6p for it to all be out of my system so i can get to bed by 2/3a. so that’s a maybe. but a nice maybe.
ofc, i’ve got non hw stuff to do, too. i’ve got to make a list of roommate requirements so i can start looking for a new one (i’ve also got to talk to goldilocks to see when she plans to move out, bc like hell am i moving out, all the bills except her half of the lease are in my name and most of the furniture (aside from her personal stuff and the coffee table) is mine and i don’t want to have to move ALL of it out and into a new place, plus it’s her decision to not be roommates, so it’s on her, not me, and i won’t budge, not this time). then i’ve got to get my study/organization binder made so things’ll be easier to keep track of. i’ve got to do some cleaning (taking out the trash, cleaning up my side of the living room (we didn’t divide it, it’s just where the couches are so we stick to our couches most of the time) and the coffee table). then laundry, gotta do laundry, i’m almost out of socks.
ofc, i might have to start on my part of the second part of the group project. i wanna design costumes for the play, if neither of the others is doing that, which i hope they aren’t, bc i don’t know enough abt any of the other elements of production to do something else. but if i have to, i can try to do sound, maybe, that’s my second choice. so, i may have to start on that this weekend. i’ll talk to hurricane bianca and tim the toolman taylor and see what they’re doing for it probs on fri if not tomorrow at rehearsal. then i can start on my part and get it finished ahead of time to prove i’m capable, when i’ve got my shit together and am not having a breakdown every week. then, after i talk to prof j abt what i’m supposed to do for the show (something with finding times for freeze frames and spotlights, which is fun, but i’m worried my comdic timing isn’t the same as everyone else’s bc i’m autistic, so my sense of humor is a bit skewed, ya know? but anyway, prof j specifically told goldilocks (who is stage manager, i’m one of two assistant stage managers) to have me do it, so i’m afraid i’m being set up to fail bc i know nothing abt theatre, rly, and i’m always paranoid abt these things, but i’m also kinda thinking it might be bc she actually thinks i can do it, which sounds unrealistic, but she’s not a mean person, so i’m willing to bet it’s that one. but i need to ask her what all she needs me to do, bc goldilocks has no clue, which was so fucking helpful, what a great stage manager she is (no, srsly, idk if i bitched abt this earlier or not, but she’s absolutely horrible at this shit so far and i can’t stand working under her bc i hate working under incompetent ppl bc i feel it makes me look incompetent, too, if the job isn’t done right, even if it’s not my fault bc i wasn’t in charge and i’m always, always terrified to look stupid or incapable in the eyes of others). so, i’ve got to ask prof j abt what all i need to do bc i’m p sure the advice given to me by the lighting tech (who is apparently a decent stage manager, tho i doubt it, truly, she doesn’t have the personality for it, she’s too pushy and it makes her hard to work with, but that might just be bc i don’t like her as a person, so i’m reserving judgement until i see her in the position) is wrong bc it makes no sense, is way too hard, doesn’t actually help with anything and gives me a headache (bc mapping out the goddamn blocking is impossible when the actors do diff things every fucking night, wtf??? do the same shit, you assholes! but it’s also useless bc it doesn’t tell anyone where the spotlights/freeze frames should be, and blocking isn’t my job, it’s the other asm’s (who i don’t have a nickname for, but will probs have before the end of rehearsal) so why she’s not doing it, idk???) so i’ll ask tomorrow.
so, i’m looking at 9 hours hw now, then 30 min of cleaning, 3 hours of other paperwork shit, and potentially 4 hours of hw and 2 hours of theatre stuff this weekend. which means i can get at least 10 hours of sleep per night and get some writing done, if i finish most of my hw now. i think that’s worth one sleepless night. it rly is. so, here’s to hoping for at least one day off this week.
but if i don’t sleep, i’ll probs crash after rehearsal tomorrow night, unless i can convince my friends to come over and hang out, since they won’t be here this weekend and i kinda need their help making the roommate requirement list bc otherwise it’s just gonna be like ‘can’t leave time on the microwave after they’re done using it’ and ‘must know how to use headphones when others are studying in the living room’ and ‘must not whine when i want to stay in my room and do work instead of being around them 24/7′ (tho, goldilocks doesn’t spend much time with me anymore, which is fine, i guess, but it’s a complete 180 from what she used to do and honestly, i’m offended bc i caved and started staying in the living room and now it just feels weird not being in the living room and idk what to do abt any of this). i need real things, too, like, big concerns that i’ll forget abt when writing it, and i need to know if my requirements are petty or things that aren’t specific to most ppl, just goldilocks. and it’d be nice to hang out with them and shit.
anyway, this is rly long and rambly, but i rly need to vent all of this shit somewhere, it helps me sort my brain out. i don’t actually expect anyone to read it and you can always blacklist my personal tag ‘iz says stuff’ if you don’t want this shit on your dash. but if you do read them, then you’re always welcome to come to my inbox and be like ‘quit bitching and get back to work, dumbass’ or something.
#text#long post#iz says stuff#i'm gonna get back to work now#after i make a to do list (on paper not on tumblr)#so i can keep track of what i need to do#and then i'm gonna update my planner with what i need to do tomorrow#but then it's back to the units#after i take some fucking ibuprofen for my migraine (idk where my migraine meds are but i might be able to find them tonight)#bc it's coming back with a vengence#i think they're from not sleeping and from stress#i used to get them all the time#some of them were so bad i had to go to the emergency room#i hope they don't get that bad again#it would rly fucking suck bc i don't have a car/can't drive with a migraine anyway and i don't have the money for the emergency room#i think i'll talk to my dr abt it tomorrow#if i can remember to

my personal top 100 influential movies
According to my personal extremely logical and not at all arbitrary rules of selection. Not at all chosen for any measure of quality -- I mean, I think a lot of them are genuinely good movies, but that’s not a criteria I’ve used. These are movies that are part of my internal storytelling repertoire -- a scene, a character, a storyline, a concept, whatever. Some I’ve rewatched loads of times, some only a couple. I don’t think all of these movies have very distinctive cinematographies, but a lot of them do. I like genre way, way more than drama. I like stories and I like movies about storytelling (please note: I consider Blade Runner a movie about storytelling so my definition is possibly somewhat broader than most. Stories are what people tell themselves in order to confirm that they are people). Also I like very stylized violence and bantering!
I watch way too many Hollywood & American movies, but, well. I suspect a lot of these definitely date me. Like, guessing my age based on these is probably entirely possible.
In alphabetical order. I could probably easily go to 150 movies, but I gotta stop somewhere. I got to about 50 movies before I had to think about it, so I guess half of this list is set and half is fluctuating.
Considering doing 100 Books, but that’s way harder.
