Casting and show aside, the promo run for season 3 brought to light that people still want costars to date in real life and why some actors do pr stunts with their costars or directors still to this day. Luke showing up with a gf got so many fans so mad because they want him to date Nicola in real life. Fans are being so mean to him assuming Nicola or him ever had feelings for eachother. Just because they had great chemistry during promo and on set. I saw fans even complaining about him liking skinny women and thats why he is not brave enough to date Nicola and how that is a red flag. Just a couple of pictures did a flip in their perception of him.

Not to get into it but, personally, I’m more interested in the timing of it. Was it just a miscalculation? Did they think it would get buried by the good press from part 2? What was the purpose? Who was meant to benefit? Because even a lay person would’ve seen that backfiring for him, particularly, a mile away.

I haven’t followed them for very long and I try to keep out of the nitty-gritty of their personal lives (friends, exes, etc.) but Luke generally seems like a real sweetheart — if maybe a man going through a hot boy summer and struggling to marry that with the realities of fame for the first time — but I can’t see him intentionally sabotaging/undermining his and Nic’s hard work like that. And Nicola genuinely seems to adore him (I can’t see her going out of her way to defend him and do damage control if she didn’t) and I trust her, so I do have a hard time believing all these sinister assumptions people are suddenly making about him.

More to the point though, I’m so uncomfortable with people just accepting this narrative that Nic wants him so bad and that he rejected her. Like, why are we so comfortable leaning into the trope that she must be the one that’s into him, because he fits the societal conventions of beauty more? Why are people acting like she must just be happy to be there? Like she’s not the literal prize?

I think people are taking the pap pictures personally for multiple reasons (they wanted to live in the fantasy a little longer, it’s hard to believe that kind of natural chemistry might not translate into real romance, etc.) but a lot, I think, are taking it personally because they wanted to see a woman like Nic win and get The Guy, which I totally get.

Except that she is winning, and maybe she doesn’t want The (or this) Guy. She said herself, “Never be afraid to walk away because the right person will chase you.” She’s fine. Better than fine. She has oodles of options and opportunities for romance if she wants them. So, if people are hurting because she represents them, I get that. But if you zoom out, she’s doing so well — she’s beloved and desired and very clearly happy, and if you’re going to use her as an example for yourself then use that part of it.

She’s doing the choosing, and very likely, this situation (whatever it is) is of her own choosing.

Full Moon kinda sucked :/ (Another HB Rant - Spoilers for Full Moon)

I hate to say this but I think Vivziepop has finally lost me. Now I'm not saying I'm no longer an HB fan, JMI was geneticlly enginered to get me addicted to whatever he's in meaning I could'nt stop watching HB even if I tried. However I am starting to doubt Vivziepops talents. I have no idea what happened between the first half of Season 2 and the second half but this kind of seasonal rot has to be studied in a fucking lab.

I want to like the episodes after "The Circus," I really do. I don't even hate Cherubs, but aside from Oops and the Mid-Special, every episode following The Circus has ranged from disapointing to awful compared to S1.

It's not even like I hate the episodes after The Circus either. Seeing Stars was okay for the most part, Exes and Oohs tried to do something, even Unhappy Campers introduced a potentally intresting character (and thats it). But these episodes have so many glaring flaws in my book that it's hard to grasp.

In my opinion, Helluva Boss was at its best during the balk half of season 1/The beginning of Season 2 (Truth Seekers-The Circus) and the decline in writing quality started at around Seeing Stars.

I made a long post that explains what about Truth Seekers I like so if you care even a little bit about my opinions, you can suffer through that rant, but to shorten it here, Truth Seekers is my favorite episode of the series because it balances the comedy and the drama expertly imo. Truth Seekers feels like Helluva Boss had finally stuck the landing at what kind of show it wanted to be. It showcased how Blitzo felt about his past relationships and his current one, it gave Moxxie a chance to be heard outside of his flaws (before the show decided they wanted to retread the same fucking plotpoint a couple more times), and it was pretty funny (comedy is subjective tho so feel free to ignore my feelings on comedy from here on out).

Ozzies is a good episode because, well, Asmodeus, but also it does more for Blitzo's character. It contrasts with Truth Seekers via two of the three halucinations calling him out on his shit, and it starts to build upon how he views his relationship with Stolas.

While I don't really like The Circus, what it did at the end for Stolas and overall how it setup the relationship for him and Blitzo was genuinly good imo. How it started with Blitzo initiating the one sidedness of their relationship and whatnot.

Notice how I'm talking almost exclusively about Blitzo as my reasons for enjoying these episodes more than others. And thats because Helluva Boss is at its best when it treats Blitzo as its main character. Even from the beginning he was the real star. Obviously you have characters like Stolas and Moxxie also getting focous, but even in those episodes, Blitzo still gets development, because Blitzo is the main driving force for the show. He's the Helluva Boss. He's the center, the emotional core. HB should be about HIM and HIS relationships to others.

Some of the worst episodes are the ones where Blitzo isn't really the main focous, I'm not saying that Blitzo automaticlly makes the show good or that he should be the only one get focus, but when you pull back and look at the series, almost every beloved episode have him (or him and Stolas) at its emotional center.

To keep this already long post from being absurdly long, I'll skip ahead to why I really didnt like the newest episode, Full Moon.

SPOILERS AHEAD

First things first, the Cherubs and Dhorks fucking suck ass as antagonists. They're annoying, they're not funny, and just like Crimson and Striker in Oops, they serve zero narritve purpose outside of being glorified cardboard cutouts for the main characters to fight. They are everything wrong with B-plots in media. Their only existence is to create artifical narritve throughlines that makes artifical suspence to keep the audience engaged like babies watching those baby sensory videos. "Oooo look its the Cherubs from the most nothing burger episode of Season 1. Oooo it's the Dhorks that are easily the most forgetable aspect of Truth Seekers. OOOhhh isnt it sooooo fucking hilarous how the Dhorks killed a bunch of children? Ohhh aren't you so invested to see these characters that mean absolutely nothing to the plot that Vivziepop is trying to sell the show with? DONT YOU JUST LOVE THESE KEY JINGLING ASS CHARACTERS YOU FUCKING BABY-"

I got a little carries away there, but my point is that Dhorks and the Cherubs are worthless slop that should be removed from the plot entirely.

Usually I wouldn't even care since 2/3 instances where useless villans show up to be useless, the main plot not involving them is really good (Refering to Oops and Truth Seekers).

But the main-plot in this episode is just as bad, if not WORSE than the B-plot.

Regarding my previous rant again, I was an avid defender of Stolitz up until maybe Western Energy, although in that case with the aftermath of Ozzies being handled mostly offscreen is more me being skeptical about Vivs pacing and writibg style. I didn't have a problem with the actual idea of Stolitz yet, just with the execution.

In actuality, my problem with the writing started in The Full Moon.

Even with me being an avid defender of Stolitz, even with me analyizng and disecting Blitzo's mentality and reasonings and emotional trauma, even with me trying to justify BOTH sides of this toxic relationship with no real abuser,

THIS does NOT come off as Blitzo begging to keep Stolas in his life because he cares about him and wants to be with him. I'm sure theres some of that in there and I still have faith that Viv try to put more of that into the execution going forward. But no matter how many times I watch this ending scene and the scenes before it, no matter how long I sit and think and think and think about this dynamic, this scene does NOT feel that way to me.

To me, this scene looks like a lower class citizen begging on his knees to the person whos essentaily employing them to let him keep his job to be able to feed his family and keep his colluges/close friends in work.

This feels like a man whos society is stacked against him trying to keep the one thing he has afloat.

I don't feel this way towards the entire scene. When Blitzo tries to avoid the whole conversation by trying to keep the transaction going, thats when I see more of the emotional side, but it still doesn't sit right with me how the dynamic is being represented.

Stolas explains it pretty well in the moments after. He says "This transactional thing we have, its not right anymore. It hasn't been. It never was. And now, all I can see is how wrong it is to be teathered to someone in such an unfair way. And not know how they feel."

To me, this finally feels like Stolas coming to his senses and realizing that he and Blitzo's relationship is unbalanced. He sees that Blitzo's reliance on him is unfair, so he works to end it.

My problems start to arise again when Stolas reacts to Blitzo trying to play it off again as Roleplay.

I can understand his side of the coin, how he feels that Blitzo only wanted him for sex and nothing more, or how he believes that Blitzo doesnt really care for his feelings and only stays for the book, and when giving Blitzo the option, he chooses to ignore it.

But I still cannot get over how icky this scene makes me feel. Blitzo has made it clear how he thinks Stolas feels about their relationship. In the Just Look My Way music video it seems that Stolas somewhat realizes that Blitzo is hurting in some capacity. When Blitzo vents his frustraitions, Stolas says "I didn't know you thought so lowly of me" which doesnt make any fucking sense in response to what Blitzo is saying.

Again, its that image of a person mistreated by society begging someone who is privlaged to let him keep his job. I cant stomach this idea that Stolas got his fucking feelings hurt over someone he indirectly played with for his own pleasure and to escape his marrige venting their frustraitions about how THEY feel about it. HE HIMSELF admitted that the relationship was unfair, so when Blitzo says "You treat me poorly and expect me to believe when you suddenly express your feelings for me? Can I get a minute to actually process what you said," its litteraly just parroting what Stolas was saying.

Stolas knows how Blitzo feels. He knows Blitzo is hurting. And yeah past relationship trauma isnt an excuse to be shitty, but it's not like Stolas made it very obvious that he did actually care about Blitzo's emotions.

Up until this point the relationship has been one sided on both sides. Both parties think the other doesnt care or that the other is just using them for something. Both sides caught feelings and didnt want to admit it, and Stolas was the bigger person for trying to initiate that discussion. But with the ending line Stolas says and all the promotional matreal being released for the upcoming seasons, the show feels like its going to make Blitzo out to be the one in the wrong when he isnt. Blitzo did the same fucking things Stolas did, so why does it feel like the next few episodes are just going to be "Blitzo sucks and we hate him." Like are you fucking serious??

Maybe I'm reading the whole thing wrong, who knows at this point.

Clone Martial Arts HCs!!!

Now that the poll has ended and I’ve done my own further research I wanted to share my headcannons for what Martial Arts I think Commander Cody and by extension the other Clones prefer. Keep in mind Im not an expert by any means so if this shits inaccurate thats my b

Now, The clones as a whole I think would be trained in as many martial arts as possible due to the obvious reasons.

Cody

For my beloved Commander Cody, I genuinely believe, while he utilizes many techniques from different disciplines and also makes shit up as he goes bc he truly is a feral overachiever, in my heart and soul i think Cody favors Muay Thai for personal use.

I know the poll said Taekwondo, however, while i think he has trained in it, he’s way more punchy than we give him credit for and i think he would prefer a more versatile art. While Taekwondo does have a focus on kicks and punches(depending on the ruleset apparently), Muay Thai utilizes punches, kicks, elbows, knees, and more. Muay Thai is also more effective in self defense due to the range being closer in comparison to TKD

I also think clinching, throws, and sweeps are all things Cody would utilize in his preferred art

I’ve always headcanoned Cody as boxing in his freetime for a while now and Muay Thai is just the specific form of boxing ive decided, followed closely by kickboxing.

Im also a sucker for any fic where Jango trains Cody personally so by extension I think Jango also prefers Muay Thai and Cody hangs onto that.

Rex

From here forward I didn’t plan on involving any more of the clones so be warned. I do think Cody is one of the only clones where his hobby is specifically training in a martial art but the rest probably have their favs too.

For Rex, I think japanese Jiu Jitsu is his style being designed for samurai and the battlefield. The specification is important to me. He’s tired of fighting all the time so its purely out of practicality and doesnt really pick up a martial art the way Cody does to blow off steam.

Rex is also a little unhinged, due to working under Anakin and Ahsoka of all people, so i do think he has some unconventionality to his fighting the same as Cody.

Wolffe

Wolffe strikes me as a Krav Maga guy. Thats just his vibe i guess. I think he would have picked it up after his encounter with Ventress becasue of its efficiency for self defense, practically, and because of the weapons defense.

Does this translate well to lightsabers? Idk does any of this translate to star wars? Theyre usually fighting droids so i dont really care. None of these actually exist in a Galaxy Far Far Away.

Fox

Fox I decided was Jeet Kune Do guy. JKD was conceived by Bruce Lee to be simple and direct and free which speaks very Fox to me, yknow?

Its all about intercepting the opponents attacks, responding or countering incoming attacks, and conserving movement and energy. Its a practical self defense technique and the principles are designed to help practitioners to make snap decisions, among other things. It all just screams Fox imo

Bly

Bly is into Hapkido. Specifically the deflecting attacks and using that against the opponent for joint locks and takedowns while also being more aggressive in comparison to Aikido. Im a big fan of fighting styles that use the opponents against themselves and i get the vibe that Bly is the kinda fighter who would favor that in a martial art.

I do think Bly also dabbles in Aikido as well. He definitely shows off to Aayla.

Ponds

Ponds is a hard one but im slapping TKD on him. Is it practical for war? Not really. I think the emphasis on the self discipline, respect, and mentality would make him a great pair to Mace Windu tho. I think he practices for the mental level of it all rather than the physical.

UMMM I'll hold ur hand when I say this but Qatar definitely wasn't an outlier, prolly the most egregious showing since the sprint in Brazil, but F1 always has like 4 races in every season where u kinda wonder if ur watching a sport 😐 This gonna get long but theres some important context I think ur asking for here also I kinda lose it at the end I'm sorry but yuh.

Saur after Vegas everybody was like omfg daddy Marques is here to save us, he addressed some basic track issues and nobody got fucking paralyzed by a pothole exploding thru their ass hurray, so there was hope that maybe Marques was off to a better start than his predecessors and wud maybe give the fans a better ending to the season. But putting Qatar after Vegas is like quizzing somebody on shapes and then asking them to solve a rubriks cube or whtvr.

Qatar was originally built for motogp so the whole thing is designed to be quick and relentless. That means lots of medium to high speed corners, long straights basically 2 hours of edging ur braking. Most drivers consider it a cool track, very demanding sure but fun to drive. For us fans, though, its an odd 1 because theres no reference points so it can be hard to follow. Think of it as the opposite of tracks like Miami or Monaco. RC did a particularly heinous job here because Qatar was Marques' first taste of a track where u either plug the first leak in record time or the whole thing goes to shit. Like, his job.

A lil lesser known fact is that they had Marques on double duty that weekend because the person who replaced him to direct the F2 heat got the boot before her plane even landed and they had NO one else to do it. So Marques had to direct both the f1 AND the f2 Qatar races the same weekend. And thats not all. Just before his inaugural run in Vegas he had just been at the helm of the iconic Macau GP that saw 12 red flags in 40 minutes of qualifying. I wont even tell u how many SC were deployed but only 12 out of 27 drivers finished the race. Ugo my most beloved won so this has nothing to do wid Qatar and Macau and the way its used by the FIA in terms of junior development is a can of worms I cant open rn but like just to show u thats the type of shit Marques had been dealing wid on a weekly basis once we got to Qatar. So truly bro never stood a chance.

When Alexs mirror fell on track the only possible course of action is to get it OFF. Idc if u wanna do VSC or a full SC u need to clear that track NOWWWWW. 3 cars caught strays from that mf before a SC was even deployed. To fuck up that badly that early in the race just showed exhaustion, it showed immaturity and frankly it showed incompetence. Its unacceptable. Wud a different RD have reacted earlier? who tf knows tbh, because these 'mistakes' always happen and they're always dismissed as 'one of those crazy ones' in the season and nothing ever gets done to improve the standards of the personnel ((theres no personnel left btw)).

Then u got the long awaited return of the stop and go and drive thru pens which was super forced and made no sense and immediately showed why those bitches been sat in a corner catching dust because theres literally always better alternatives and they almost never serve actual officiating purposes. 'Precedence' means fuck all if u also have the 'precedence' of not fucking doing that and being way more consistent and delivering better racing. But ohhhh he had to stop in the pits and THEN he had to go back out ohhh he had to go thru an area of the track thats not the right one and lose a bunch of time and become essentially worthless in the race we love when competitive cars do that. Sorry this isnt directed at u I just have a very particular beef wid fans who act like drive thrus and stop and go's are these celestial artifacts that are gonna restore balance in the universe like the harder u throw the book at these drivers the better the product will become. I cud live 200 lives and not have enough time to explain how thats the actual furthest thing from the truth but ur innocent and ily so lets regroup. ❤️ My actual conclusion to ur q is that this is how things have always been and no they're not likely to improve. FIA been circulating a bunch of changes to their rules that are prolly gonna be approved at their general assembly in about 10 days. These 'new statutes' include 1) changing the governing bodys ethics rules so that Sulayem can in fact talk to drivers however the fuck he wants and THEY will be held in contempt for criticizing him 2) the 'compliance officer' responsible for overseeing Sulayems spending cannot report to an independent committee and propose an investigation unless directly asked by the Senate President who .. and ur not gonna believe this .. is appointed directly by Sulayem. 3) yes u understood it correctly FIA will prolly become a system where the FIA president and the president of the senate that he chose decide each other's fate in any ethics inquiry.

Sulayem is up for re-election and its becoming more and more likely that hes gonna run unopposed. A sporting director, a technical director, multiple heads of mobility, communications, legal affairs, the women in motorsport commission, several race directors, stewards, a compliance officer, deputy directors. All fired under his watch. Dozens of others quit.

Stewarding has become so abysmal Max received a one place grid drop AND a penalty point as a mitigating punishment for something he literally didnt do under circumstances that didnt warrant any type of punishment let alone a mitigating one like the document literally says that 'unusually, neither car was on a push lap' because if they had been on a push lap max wud have received a 3 place grid drop but 1 and 63 were not on push laps so naturally we have to give Max a one place grid drop and a penalty point for not doing the thing that he would've been punished for had he done it. After several attempts and even more exclamations along the lines of "come on" and "so close!", the can finally landed upright.

You and Jeremy turned to each other excitedly, and he practically lifted you off your seat in a hug.

He tried to act cool after that, insisting it wasn't hard, and decided to top off his act by leaning his hip against the table and popping the can open.

And then it exploded in his face.

You immediately burst into laughter. Jeremy coudln't even protest, because your laughter was too contageous that he started laughing too.

The drink made a mess on the table and the floor and y'all are laughing. Good for you.

Batting

You saw him swinging his baseball bat in the air outside.

He wasn't playing with anyone and there wasn't a baseball in sight. You assumed he was just trying to get out the zoomies.

He seemed so focused.

You realised you'd never been able to scare him before.

You decided to sneak up on him, maybe surprise him with a hug from behind. Maybe just tackle him and see how he'd react.

You got closer. Good, he hadn't noticed.

But as he swung back too fast, it hit your head with a THONK

You stumbled backward, reaching for your head.

Jeremy turned around, eyes widening in shock, partly because he didn't expect you there, and partly because "holy shit are you okay?"

You started laughing at yourself. In hindsight, sneaking up behind someone with a metal baseball bat wasn't a good idea.

But as much as your boyfriend was worried, every damn time he saw you laugh he just can't help but start laughing too.

But the laughter came with proclamations of concern.

He was so worried.

You and Jeremy were standing on opposite sides of the room, repeatedly flinging his hat back and forth.

The goal was to try and get it to land on his head.

Whenever you missed, he'd throw it right back.

The time he taught you how to shoot his scattergun.

It made him so happy to see you take an interest in his favourite gun.

He insisted to try and teach you through doing, partly because he wasn't entirely sure how to explain it purely with words, but also since he was just too eager to show you.

His instruction wasn't so clear, but he was more than happy to fix your errors.

Sometimes when you pulled the lever to eject the empty shell, Jeremy would have to stop you and pull it again.

He explained you had to pull it all the way or it could get jammed. You felt a little silly, but he kept praising you whenver you did something right, so the feeling didn't stay for long.

He stood behind you and kept his hands on yours to make sure they were in the right position.

Sometimes he'd move a hand to your shoulder or hip to fix your posture

He kept his chest firm against your back.

He said he was worried you might lose your balance and fall backwards when you shot.

Which was unlikely considering your stance.

Maybe he just wanted to be close to you.

Train ride

You both needed to take a train together, but it was too crowded for either of you to get a seat.

You were looking for one of the hand grip things to hold, when the train started to move, making you tumble right into Jeremy's shoulders.

He caught you and grinned like a doofus.

"I guess you fell for me."

All you could do was laugh and roll your eyes.

He did make sure to stand close to you to catch you if you ever fell again.

But he didnt wanna admit that he wished you DID fall again so he could catch you again.

is it just me or have i just grown bored of the new x-men 97 show? its just the same all over again with the 90s cartoon, just a few elements changed and ANNOYING cameos. like ffs these cameos are such beloved characters and they sideline them so much.

im a huge polaris fan and the injustice she gets done in TV is just idk-

i dont want lorna to be treated as a side character anymore, she deserves to be a main character for once, especially in the mcu. Its so hard finding people out there who like lorna. they always ask "who is that?“ "oh is that the green wanda?“ or something like that.

in wolverine and the x-men she was just potrayed as this naive little girl. and just deserved so much more screentime.

currently just disliking how they choose to ignore lorna as if she isnt a big part of magnetos story.

I'm responding to your inbox as I read it, so I might say something and then find out you talked about it or it doesn't apply when I get to the next part.

Honestly, I have enough experience now with Marvelthink (since 2009) that I know when they're hyping up a 90s connection like this, it means it's going to be mired in too much nostalgia. So I didn't plan on watching X-Men 97 even before it was announced. That doesn't mean they couldn't have swayed me to change my mind and watch it - I originally avoided Wolverine and the X-Men for overemphasizing Wolverine but came around to it because of good work for Lorna - but I expected bad things and they've proven me right so far.

Lorna's in a better position overall today than she was when I found out about her. It might not seem like it, but more people do know she exists. And before Wanda became more popular and gained more awareness, the more common derogatory comparison was "Magneto with boobs."

I was alright with WatXM. Mainly because a) it was an AU version of her that was younger (I think even younger than when she was introduced in the comics), and b) it hit on the most important character moments and developments for her. She was part of Genosha, she's a survivor of the genocide, she's also Magneto's daughter alongside the twins, etc. I feel she would've had really good development in the seasons to follow if they had happened.

Comparing that to X-Men 97, which is so obsessed with nostalgia and regressive attitudes (even while claiming the mantle of progressive) that they refuse to respect Lorna's character and development beyond that framework. Beau DeMayo and his people on the show made it very clear that they see Lorna primarily as a supporting character for Havok on X-Factor. Which is quite frankly also mired in sexism even if they tell themselves they can't be sexist, "I treated this other female character well so I can't be sexist," etc.

Another person I chatted with elsewhere mentioned that since Beau DeMayo was fired before the cartoon started airing, maybe the new showrunner will fix the damage Beau did and do things right. It's a possibility, but I only see it really working out if the cartoon acknowledges Lorna as a survivor of the Genoshan genocide by middle of season 2 AND gives that story a lot more space than it would've had if they had simply acknowledged it in season 1. My comparison point is Barb from Stranger Things. The Stranger Things showrunners didn't realize how much people would care about Barb, and committed to giving her more respect in the second season.

Overall, I think X-Men 97 is run by people who have their heads stuck in the past, willing to exploit newer material like the Genoshan genocide to get more buzz but not actually respect its weight and dimensions in any truly substantial way.

Which, on that note, another common thing people often say to try to defend shit like what X-Men 97 pulled is to tell themselves and others that what was done in that depiction is the best it could've been done. The reality in cases like this is it could've been done a hell of a lot better, but being an uncritical fan puts blinders on a person. Don't wanna end up in a position where they have to critically think about the content beyond absorbing and loving it, don't have to understand why other people would have a problem with how things were done.

I think that's all I've got for now. Hopefully the new showrunner doesn't suck ass like Beau, and hopefully the MCU cares more about quality and care where Lorna can come into it than about feeding nostalgia boners of people who don't want to move past where their heads were at 30 years ago.

it is august of 2018 — no actually. our story begins in september of 2017. voltron: legendary defender is released by netflix to widespread acclaim. a community forms on tumblr, and then immediately shoots itself in the foot face and ass as horny people move to make suggestive content of this preteen space lion show. the community not only splits, but implodes and descends into rabid frenzy. in the year that follows, and as the quality of the source content declines, death threats and callouts and blacklists become not only ordinary, but daily. but, as einstein or some other guy said, matter and energy cannot be destroyed and this rabid energy of hundreds of annoying gay teenagers must be redirected — somewhere close, and quick.

enter me. one of them. not doing great in college. yes, academically i was excelling but socially isolated. lonely. i needed some distraction. netflix releases a teaser for an upcoming animated show. the look of it — dramatic set pieces, colorful magic use, armored knights — piques my interest. i haven't had any good medieval content since kalots's release in 2017. the teaser is short, provides only a taste of whats to come in the approaching season. some words, some characters.

one character specifically grabs my interest: the king. i look online, searching for a name to the beautiful face. i find none. not quite discouraged, but rather engaged, i decide he will be my favorite. the other characters are children, and this man is beautiful. i cannot resist the allure. i find like minded individuals. we are all love the unnamed dragon prince king. and this is where i must remind you of the reformed voltron gays. we'd been slighted. we'd been hurt. netflix cartoon had already broken our minds spirits and sanity once, but this was a different netflix cartoon, different animation studio, different creative team. in fact, it was the child show of the men who created avatar: the last airbender, which i had not watched, but which i know was beloved. i had faith. i had trust! surely, this unnamed king would be given grace and dimension! surely, they would not waste such a great design with shallow writing and a cold hard future in the fridge! <- this is what we in show business call foreshadowing.

days pass without a name for the king. not unexpected, netflix puts out only minimal effort in promoting a series. its usually up to whoever created it to hype it up. in this case, the offender is wonderstorm, who quickly realizes there is a large, jilted audience in their target demographic (teens and teens adjacent) itching for a new series to latch onto, like eels being given a pizza. they get to work, setting up both a twitter and tumblr account. here is their best work, and arguably the peak of the entirety of the dragon prince experience: the hype harvested by the dragonprinceofficial account before the release of the show.

see, they'd done their homework, learned from the blunder misstep and nuclear detonation of voltron's more than lacking, downright insulting pr team. dpo baited. dpo waited. they released bits and pieces. hints and riddles. they were tuned into the biggest memes of the moment. they capitalized. and i was not immune. at the time, it was fun. thats the first tragedy, i think. the pre-show era was actually fun, while the show itself became such a slog, a heavy weight on the experience when it should have been the reward it was promised to be. but, im getting ahead of myself. show release is still a few paragraphs out. we finally get a name for the face: king harrow. a frantic google search for the etymology of the word harrow leaves us worrying for this guy. the king, the father, associated with such a negative connotation.

nonetheless, we stan. edits and art and even some fics — mind you, we still only have the name and a brief teaser, nothing in the way of actual characterization — sprout. hype builds. the first episode is screened at a convention and i turned into fucking sherlock holmes finding posts and tidbits about it. about my beloved harrow. i am able to sleuth. the man has promise — a king who made a mistake so grave it'll send him to his. in this day and age we'd call him doomed by the narrative. its wonderful. im latched and hooked and pack bonded. and in this looking around, i find something else that's interesting: a character by the name of viren. someone we haven't seen, but who has an important dynamic with the king. im 👁👁 because the only thing better than a good character is a pair of them.

anticipation continues to build. the delirium only deepens. news about the show is promising, engagement with dpo is rewarding. golden age. the good old days. the official trailer comes out, and, to put it biblically, i go batshit. here, finally, more harrow. some viren! drama! call me a tick, call me a feral cat shown kindness because babey i form some unhealthy unbreakable unshakable bonds. i turn into wonderstorm's bitch. "the king is in danger" some promo material warns, but do i miss the red flags? baby, i miss the entire red dawn. my faith is will be rewarded. there is no doubt in my mind: harrow will be fine. he's a good father, great man. the power of love or friendship or some other adolescent bullshit will save him.

i have hope.

and then, right on time at 12:00am PST, Friday, September 9th, 2018, the series is released.

google, look up synonyms for disappointment. no, that's not fair. disappointment is too mild a term, too mild a feeling for the experience. it was brutal, gutting, a crucible of fire and blood that only made me worse. i stayed up until 4am, swallowing as much of the show as i could stomach. i didn't even finish that night. i could have, but i was feeling the effects of sleep deprivation and, much worse, the pain and embarrassment of being so completely and utterly wrong.

in the nine episodes of wonderstorm's the dragon prince season one, harrow is in three of them. technically, his lifeless corpse is in the fourth, but exists only to be desecrated and disrespected by his white friend.

harrow is a frustrating character — given the illusion of depth, but given little to do with it. he's more plot device than person, here to die to kick off the story, to launch character arcs, to be the big sad tragedy that everyone brings up every other episode. he becomes an abstraction, his death used as motive and purpose. he dies to showcase that this isnt your dad's animated series! suck our dick nickolodeon! see we have depth!

but, despite this, his death feels temporary. there is ambiguity, shadows, a fade to black that leaves us with a wink and promise. he dies, but we're told he dies, never shown final moments, never confirming it for ourselves. like yesterday's leftovers, he's shoved in the fridge.

to give a name to the tactic, i'd call it shrodinger's representation. its the writers putting a foot in two doors. we didnt kill the kind black father, they say, because he isn't dead! but at the same time, frustratingly, we're told there isnt a way to bring the dead back to life. viren rushes to cremate the body, and you think ah there is more afoot but there is nothing afoot. there is no mystery to solve. in the same breath that they ask us to look more into harrow's death, they also say, without question, that he is dead. he has to be dead for the story to work sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ nevermind that several, MOST other characters cheat death. the writers ask, beg, and whine for you to pay no mind to these future instances. harrow is dead.

harrow dies less than sixty minutes into the saga, and my interest in the show hould have been taken out into a patch of quiet woods and killed as well, but it isnt. having nothing else do to, i engage in behavior that can only be described as Bitchless. which nets me two thousand followers and a callout post but hey. i have my fun in the month after the show is released. making gifs making theories getting into scraps in the tag. its a different kind of experience than before. i may have lost the rosy film, the romantic lens with which i viewed the show before it was released, but nothings so broken it cant be fixed. tdp would get another season, there was a plan, there was the chirpening theory, there was angst to write. viren was a weak, confusing character, but i could fix him. i could take out the interesting bits, polish them until they shined.

i was promised everything, and given nothing, but that didnt stop me. because im a dumbass.

months pass. s2 looms as a threat. i try to move onto other things but its only a few, short months before the new season is released. i go in knowing harrow is dead, but, unfortunately i also go in knowing there will be flashbacks with him.

even worse: flashbacks with him and his wife.

queen sarai. i must at this point remind you i am a lesbian so you see the kind of strain i was under. trapped between a beautiful man and his epic wife. i never stood a chance. and she was [unintelligible gibberish]. another of tdp's weak characters with some interesting attributes. her relationship with her husband was at points stupid, but they loved each other and Did I Mention I Was Lonely. throw viren into the mix and baby. unhealthy coping mechanisms thy name is quinn daggerons. it was at this point i divorced canon for the most part. i took these three characters, all the characterization that tickled my brain, and just went hog wild with aus. second golden age. sure, sarai was dead, harrow was dead, and viren was [unintelligible gibberish, sounds of violence] but that didnt matter. here on tumblr dot hell they were alive and well and i wrote a 20,000 word, four part au where they were the main characters of the series. next level brainrot. multidimensional brainrot, even. embarrassing.

anyways.

by the time season two's ending credits rolled, i had given up on the show. another season or four was something that was going to happen, but not happen to me. and mix in some Controversy: a fun little case of bury your gays, some elements that felt racially insensitive, white men showrunners behaving like white men and i was ✌️ checked out. i would keep these characters, thank you very much, but i would not say anything nice to the people who made them.

s3 unfortunately, eventually came out. more of the same. viren was.... doing Something. what? i didnt care. harrow was still dead. someone told me there were some flashbacks with him, again, and i was like good on luc roderique getting that netflix money. genuinely hope he has good luck with other projects, he was too good for this show.

but i sat my ass down and watched said flashbacks. they were alright. thanks for giving us harrow depressed about the death of his wife. im gonna hit you with my car aaron ehasz. viren's fun time war crimes happen. it sucks knowing the thing that will eventually get harrow killed wasn't even something he wanted to do. it was something he agreed to only after having his grief for his dead wife exploited by his white friend. i giffed my beloved man one last time. and blurred out viren because it was funny.

so, to answer your question, dear friend. what happened to the hot king? he lived, he served cunt, he died, and then his corpse was dragged around for the rest of the show.

“just tired,” king says. it’s hard to look at the collector straight-on. the thoughts that surround him are a messy array, and barely any of them are his, the way they are for anybody else: it’s a weird conglomerate of old thoughts like those that drift through the sky, but so packed together he can’t make anything out. it’s a beach of golden sand the collector runs through, leaving kicked-up grit in his awake.

“naw, c’mon,” they needle, landing right in front of him. “you’ve been tired forever. be fun!”

he misses his family so bad he’s sure it’s a wound spilling out of him. how can’t the collector see that?

laughed even harder when she took in luz. you’re an apprentice, kid, eda had told her, and the girl had squealed, and her daemon had sat there on her shoulder with her tiny chest puffed out, and something in eda knew this was going to be a permanent thing.

for the first one: oh! hey! this one is relevant to for the future which im writing right NOW! ive been thinking a lot recently about how kings gonna be Doing in that entire like, 2-3 months he's basically on his own with the collector, because i'll be expanding out from what was shown in the show, and just...god. poor kid.

its terrifying! im a collector lover but even i'll admit he is Not great with king, especilly towards the start, and thats not going anywhere--king misses his family and the collector has been on his own for so LONG, and has this sense of entitlement to kings time + space. why does everyone else get a lifelong friend with them since birth? the collector wants that! and if they werent born with it they'll find a friend then! like KING!

its just a LOT. it makes for fun writing though kdnfkgdfg king doesnt hate the collector but oh boy is he not actually friends with them.

Hi, I’m new to TW (I know WAY LATE), but I’m pretty sure I’m now a diehard Sterek fan. Do you feel that one of the guys is favored over the other? I’m not sure if that’s worded right, I know they’re both loved as they should be, but is one more popular? Like, who has the most ships outside of Sterek? Who are most fics centered on? Also, I just saw another ship I follow discussing Barbenheimer, and I could totally see Stiles all excited and dressed in pink, dyed hair like Ken, for Barbie, while Derek readies for Oppenheimer by reading up on it, wanting to know the history, etc.

i dont think one is more favoured but i do think Stiles is the more “mainstream” character of the show? he’s more generally liked i think. but also its hard for me to be objective because i’ve been into the Sterek fandom exclusively for so long, i haven’t witnessed much from the mainstream teen wolf fandom in ages. but over the years that was my impression. but i know Derek is very much beloved too just not in the same way.

all in all, i can’t really help you on the questions about the fandom outside of Sterek 😅 i haven’t bothered with it in too long. but i do know a lot of ships from the show were hella popular, i even enjoyed some of them and still do when i read Sterek fics but none were ever as popular as Sterek and frankly thats all that matters (to me lol).

on takao's grandpa being the only responsible adult, it's like... ok i don't know how to describe it other than a certain quote from my favorite series of snapcube streams ever, "i feel like all of the weird, like, child abuse in this show is gonna be like, really recontextualized if i ever decide to do a rewatch" except it's just, specifically takao's grandpa and the surprising amount of times he's attacked his grandson. like it's one of those things where you're not supposed to think too hard about it but also he is definitely not responsible

come to think of it i think "most responsible adult" probably goes to max's dad, which makes sense considering he's not really involved in the plot (i mean takao's grandpa isn't either but, y'know)

also in regards to daitenji, i feel like above all else probably the worst thing he did was just.. recruiting a bunch of teenagers into fighting borg without telling them what was actually going on, particularly in regards to rei. like idk how to explain it but.. even if daitenji isn't malicious, taking this homeless kid in and then getting them involved in All Of That is kind of a shitty thing to do, y'know?

that's a fair point but like, a couple of times grandpa did break tyson's thick skull you know? like times when his head was unclear (couple of times in the first two seasons and few times in grev) and his inputs actually helped. i do respect him a lot because he single handedly raised tyson (the kid has barely got any family). sure, he can abusive at times but you know, not useless (unlike hiro who really thought he helped his bro).

in case of dickenson a similar thing happened in vforce; both kenny and him were aware of zeo's situation and it was his decision to not inform the bladebreakers about it. i dont know if thats a good or a bad thing because

tyson being emotionally unstable and moody implies that he could react in any way possible, but for the most part, realistically he'd be spending days trying to comprehend what happened and would basically be very confused and lost. this could either make him better or worse. ofc he'd definitely come down to a respectful decision like he did in the anime and encourage him but...he would be on a high time crisis (anndddd followed by more beloved grev circumstances of betrayal and trust).

the fact that it happened during the battle was abrupt as hell (vforce's writings..) and i kinda feel bad that tyson just didnt know and could barely think at that point- again idk if thats good or bad. i mean we're talking about vforce end where tyson was NOT doing mentally okay and all he had on his mind was zeo.

bro not to bring my bleach world building gripes onto my main but how the fuck does the soul society economy work.

there is clearly poverty so that means there has to be the opposite. there are shops so clearly there is a currency. we know shinigami need to eat so that means there has to be food. so thats means there has to be farmers, butchers and fishers. but kubo says there is a seperate realm for beasts. that cant make sense since animals have to exist in their realm otherwise there is no food. its one thing if it was only farming but they have meat AND ganju also had a boar. so the answer has to be that either the realm of beasts is simply connected to soul society or theres no such thing and animals spirits simply end up in the soul society as well. and even if you had the idea that the realm of beasts was a seperate realm for more sapient animals, it also makes no sense bc that level is not quantifiable in that way for it to work. bro. bro help me why do i like these worlds so much theyre so busted

it really goes to show that a cool concept can pull you very far bc all of whats unexplored stuff is super interesting to me. but its so busted LMAO

but who is working those jobs. it has to be normal people/souls. so is the only way to escape abject afterlife poverty to become a shinigami OR find a job serving shinigami in the seireitei. its literally a FEUDAL SOCIETY HUEAAAGH.

like its great that non shinigami dont need to eat or drink. thats cool. so at least you dont have to worry about that aspect. but it also begs the question. can you get sick? does soul society have pathogens and viruses? bacteria? are they like special spirit sicknesses?

but what about souls with spiritual powers? the only way to get ahead is to join the military, be a servant, or get lucky enough to be born into a rich family. in the rescue rukia arc the whole concept of the wall between rukongai and the seireitei was a huge deal. and kubo specifically made it clear that there was animosity between people in rukongai and the shinigami.

i could keep going on and on and on about this. and its like. how do you even fix society like that. its run by nobles, who control the massive military bc the nobles are also apart of the military. and when your just a little soul peasant theres nothing you can even do

you cant fight back bc even if rukongai is 10x the size of your military, your miltary have superpowers and could overpower them instantaneously. you cant even communicate with them bc they overall just dont care about you enough. no voting no democracy. OH AND ALSO THE SHINIGAMI CAN JUST KILL SOULS WHENEVWR THEY WANT? BC THAAT SENDS THEIR SOULS BACK TO THE LIVING WORLD AND CONTINUES THE CYCLE OF LIFE AND DEQT. bwuh bwah uagh. imagine having a horrible shit life and you die and you either turn into a horrible monster or are sentenced to Super Poverty. and then as super peasant you finally make a family on the crusty fucked up afterlife only to die and lose them too. but also time is different there so u could be like over hundreds of years old living your little peasant life.

but remember when the whole rescue rukia arc was all about how the system was clearly corrupt. you see how poorly rukongai is treated. rukias sentence is clearly wrong and corrupt. and its only because shes connected to one of the main Noble families that the whole concept is brought into question (and by only a few people). and aizens whole plan is literally to take advantage of that corruption to manipulate for his own means

but instead of being like 'Oh my god clearly our system is so messed up if he was able to get away with something like this' they were like Ah yes Aizen is the source of every problem weve ever had. this is our problem. okay everyone lets work together to kill aizen and not examine anything else that is the issue. and ichigo was like. Sick. thats tight i will retain nothing from this (i give him a break tho hes like 15 and doesnt deserve any of this)

but its cool!! everyone is friends and wow i love my totalitarian military friends wahoo!!!!! no one learns anything, we never have to examine our fucked up world if we keep having new villains manifesting from nowhere. bankai brother!!!!

ps i actually love bleach. and im absolutely a shounen head. i love the genre bc sometimes u just wanna see cool fights and not think too hard about things beyond surface level conflict. world building has never been bleach's strong suit. kubos skill lies in very cool concepts, awesome and memorable character designs and awesome artwork.

but sometimes you look beneath the surface of something like this and its funny bc youre like WHOA this is busted WKFKKSKFRS

i will say though, without a shadow of a doubt. the Tybw is my least favorite piece of bleach ever. i. i couldnt even finish it. i had to skip through it when it was first being released bc i loathed is so much. just so much new stuff without ever touching upon the inital problem. its so fundementally pointless and is followed by an ending that is worse than naruto's. and it SUCKS. bc theres a lot of neat concepts and interesting characters that come out of it! but its so bad. so bad.

Part lll - Wolfkiller

It was still dark when I woke up next morning. Always an early raiser, since I remember as a kid, I am always the first one to get up and the last one to go to sleep.

I opened my eyes and I saw that familiar fur next to me. My beloved dogs sleeping by my side, providing that warmth and company. For someone that has dogs or cats living with them surely this will sound familiar.

I have trained and fed these dogs since they were pups, a male and female. So strong jaws, strong legs, muscular body...I have never weighted them, I had not scales and the only ones I was aware of, were for spices and food. But I do believe their weighed around 120–140 lbs.

I just laid there for a few minutes, spread on my straw mattress under a blanket and old sheets, one arm over the male’s body length and the female was laying on my back. Listening to them while they slept. Memories from years ago when I went down to the breeder and held them in my arms. Days and afternoons training them. It made me smile. It made me feel warm inside. I thought I did good with them, I was their friend and showed them how to do good and they returned their gratitude with their comfort, helping when hunting, company at nights and love.

I took a deep breath from all these thoughts that started to annoy me for some reason and I finally got up. I looked at the window, Snowing. Perfect. That winter was horrible cold and snowing mostly everyday, which was no good becasue there was basically nothing to hunt. nothing to provide, nothing to eat but vegetable broth if any vegetables survived the snow, or to re use that old bone to cook more broth.

My clothes where spread everywhere. I remembered then, I had company last night. The castle gates, the wine, the cheese, the tavern servant... where the hell she was? I looked around , she wasn't there, I was certainly sure about that. Maybe she left while I was asleep. I gave no importance and I continued getting dressed.

What I thought about while I was getting dressed? nothing. I have my mind clear. I just felt frustrated. I felt alone. I felt nothing had importance. That was the everyday feeling there. I was there, I was live, I was just one living in these walls, thats all.

The dogs were awake now, still laying on the bed but on alert for my sign to follow me.

My side table, the one by the window and fireplace, had a basin with water, it was horribly cold. I splashed my face with it and I looked at my self on that old almost faded mirror. Messy hair and my old reflection. Good enough to go hunting. Not gave importance on anything I saw. But let me tell you something. Every time I looked at myself in a mirror, I stared at my own eyes. And it seemed I talked to myself without moving my lips. Own support, own courage. Nothing else than that.

I gave the sign for my dogs to follow me.

Now let go hunt the pups.

The castle was still sleeping minus the servants already working on the kitchen.

Went to the kitchen hoping to find something to eat prior my hunting day. Maybe something for the dogs as well.

It was warm in there, always with that giant fireplace that once served these horrendous medieval wars and they celebrated their triumphs. Now just for whatever I provided and broth. But I am not a history listener as you know so all I knew is all i have heard from far away.

Cheese in the pantry. Loaf of bread, leftovers from last night dinner. It was hard but it was something. Unfortunately there was nothing for the dogs and I felt bad. Surely I will hunt something and they could eat that. The wolf perhaps. That thought made me chuckle. Eat the damned wolf.

The main servant walked in the kitchen and saw me eating.

“Good Morning Lord” she said

“Don’t call me that” I replied while eating and looking at her. She raised me basically. Duties from the royalty. Servant will take care of their Lords kids.

She side smiled becasue she knew I always hated that Lord signature.

“Going hunting early today” she said while cutting some carrots

My eyes where on her, while I still stood, leaning to the table that was in the middle of the room, legs crossed and my dogs by my side. How I looked like?

“Hmm yes. I have to find these pups”

“Pups?” she looked at me “ Lestat, these are no pups but wolves, they killed the villager sheeps and cows”

“Yes and thats all. Since when a wolf attacked a man? They are just hungry ......like we are” I said the last words with venom on my lips.

She looked at me in silence and then returned to cut more vegetables. She murmured something I could not understand or gave a prayer. I looked at her and I lifted my brow. I had enough of that conversation and I walked towards that old medieval room where we had these old armor and medieval weapons. I looked around. What to choose. Three flintlock guns, a flintlock rifle, my muskets and my father's sword. A very large mace spiked club and also an iron ball attached to a chain that could be swung with immense force at an attacker. Many tips back and forth to the barn and prepare my worse with all that arsenal. The hell I needed all of that? oh well. Might no need it but there I was packing it all. Just before leaving the castle, I added to this little arsenal one or two ancient weapons that I'd never bothered with before.

There I went up hill, for a long time. It was all quiet and still snowing. Dogs by my side. I had my mind clear but I was unhappy and ferocious as I rode up the mountain. I wanted to kill them all, I was ready. I needed it. It was something inside of me that needed that fight.
