I think part of the reason I can't ship zhongli/childe is cause way back when in 1.0 and 1.1 mind you people hyped this ship up to the max and I went into the liyue archon quest expecting some serious yaoi and the only thing i came out of it was damn "childe and the traveler have serious tension" and i dont even ship the traveler/childe like I WAS LED ON WITH THE EXPECTATION OF YAOI?
for example before I watched code geass I saw a billion and one people talking about lelouch/suzaku and i was like yeah okay how gay is this shit and I was pleasantly surprised because the fans were right this is some golden standard shonen yaoi. like lelouch and suzaku were gay and toxic and beloved friends and their dynamic and relationship was everything and also devastating i enjoyed it even though i also came out of code geass not shipping suzululu because its beyond my paygrade.
longstory short after i played the archon quest which is zhongli and childe's only interaction and still is for more than 2 years, I felt very lied to i was expecting yaoi greatness and got nothing
however i do think their relationship is funny i would love to see how they became friends like i appreciate their dynamic as weirdo friends than any romantic interpretation

ok ok but jayroytim😏
this feels especially funny if brudick happens in the background and oliver hates the fact he's now in-laws with bruce
so i have to regretfully admit i'm not really a fan of JayRoy, or at least i'm not a fan of the popular version of JayRoy. i think JayRoy could work and would be a lot of fun! but i have *zero* interest in New-52!JayRoy (or New-52!Roy in general) or rlly any version of Jason and Roy on the Outlaws together. both bc i'm a pre-Flashpoint stan at heart. usually i can stand newer content for ship fodder but for these two oh man it grinds my gears how badly Roy got fucked over-
BUT BUT. that doesn't mean i think the ship has *no* merit. because Jason and Roy *do* have some fodder in pre-Flashpoint. they meet briefly when Jason is Robin, and then again when Jason is Red Hood during that Outsiders arc where Black Lightning is in prison. so! there's definitely material to work with. especially playing into the more fucked up nature of Roy knowing Jason when he was Robin. i think it's cute if Jason had a childhood crush on Roy. and maybe Roy even thought Jason was kind of cute, a spunky kid with a lot of energy and passion. then with Jason as Red Hood, Roy openly doesn't trust him and doesn't like that they're working with him. Jason is just a run-of-the-mill villain with a nasty kill count. and sure, Roy's got a record of tangling with people more on the villain side of things, but even going near the Red Hood feels like a step too far.
adding Tim to the mix is really fun. bc honestly it gives Roy some kind of a fetish for guys who have been Robin and i find that to be delightful. like, even if Roy just sees Jason as the Red Hood, he can't *quite* let go of the image of Jason as Robin. like it just won't get out of Roy's system ever since Jason came back. i think, if i were to write these three together, i'd have Roy and Tim get together first of all people, just because Roy is trying really hard to stop thinking about Jason as Robin, especially now that Jason is older and a little meaner. he's full of guilt about it, and he can't talk to Dick because he's still not sure where Dick's feelings fall about the whole Jason thing so. he goes to Tim instead, thinking if he fucks a different Robin, maybe he'll get it out of his system. Tim's pretty and he's just old enough that it's not *too* morally questionable for Roy to seek him out. it takes a while for Roy to work up the nerves because he and Tim aren't particularly close, so how do you even approach that conversation to make it look organic. it's awkward and Tim can definitely tell something is up but hey, who's going to say no to Roy Harper offering sex? one of Dick's best friends? especially if we put this right after Kon and Bart's death where Tim is just. sort of lonely and seeking companionship. in some ways,, Roy would remind him of Kon, just a little. that sort of cocky attitude and snarky smile.
i would add Jason in by having JayTim happen alongside RoyTim. it's not like Roy and Tim are serious enough to be exclusive and Tim knows Roy is sleeping around, so Tim ends up in a weird hatefucking situation with Jason, which definitely was not supposed to happen. Jason just has a damning way of getting under Tim's skin and won't stop bothering Tim until he gets some kind of attention from Tim. and somehow Jason is interesting enough for Tim to cave. and he doesn't even think about the two relationships he's balancing until he happens to sleep with Jason after being with Roy the night before and there are still marks all over him and Jason does *not* like sharing. so when he interrogates Tim and gets nothing, he does the reasonable thing of stalking Tim to figure out who it is. and it just happens to be the guy Jason had a crush on as a kid.
i think Roy finding out he tried so hard to avoid Jason that he accidentally ended up with the same fuck buddy as Jason would be the funniest thing in the world. like it's not something he can run from anymore and he has to accept that. he tries to awkwardly ask what Tim even sees in the guy bc well, Jason's a killer and not known for being mentally stable. but he's also the guy who exonerated Black Lightning with no real motive besides just helping out. he's complicated and Roy doesn't know how to react. Tim just sort of shrugs bc how do you even explain Jason Todd and well, one thing leads to another and Tim ends up in the middle of the most emotionally charged threesome he's ever been in. love the idea of Jason and Roy using Tim as a toy while they work out their feelings for each other. to me that's the peak dynamic. Jason and Roy are pissed about liking each other and somehow, Tim got roped into things. their relationship is not healthy or normal whatsoever, but somehow, they end up balancing each other out nicely.
background BruDick is also hilarious tho. bc there is no one who hates Bruce more than Oliver and he'd be so annoyed that not only did Roy get tangled up with the Bats, but now everything is so weird their families are pretty tangled together and Oliver has to deal with Bruce a lot more than he wants to. and he's glaring daggers about it the whole time.

why does everybody hate mcu clint so much??? i’ve read his comics but i still love jeremy renner’s portrayal of him and stuff :(
like i can understand being disappointed in some ways about how the character was changed for the movies, but i can’t understood all the hate for him
for me, personally, it's not that mcu clint is a bad character per se, it's really just the fact that he doesn't feel like clint barton. give him any other name and he's a fine character, but compare him to comic clint and they're in NO WAY the same person.
on one hand you have that responsible, serious husband and well adjusted father of three, who cracks a joke here and there but takes everything pretty serious most of the time, who has his life under control, while everyone else on the team is a mess. he doesn't have that much of a personality, no weird habits or (dis)likes, he really fades in comparison to other team members like tony, who's lines are always on point and who gets a back story and everything.
on the other hand there's this 6'3" disaster of a human being, who lives for coffee, dogs, tv shows and nothing else, is obsessed with purple for no reason at all, grew up in a circus after he escaped his abusive dad, can't take anything seriously and cracks the funniest joke all the fucking time, even makes fun of captain america on a regular basis (at least in the early avengers comics), runs away from himself and responsibility, fucks up nearly all of his relationships because he really sucks at emotions, but then forms those really precious bonds with people like kate, and who's just kind of an asshole really, but simultaneously a fucking ray of sunshine. plus he's deaf and we always love some representation. oh, and mcu clint is like the straightest guy ever, and then there's comic clint who is just so easy to headcanon as this bisexual disaster, and we all know how much fandom loves a queer coded character.
so, the mcu basically took away every fun part of the awesome character that is clint barton and it SUCKS. i really don't hate movie clint as his own character, i just hate hate HATE the fact that he's supposed to be THE clint barton because he IS NOT, and he'll never be. i'm sorry, but jeremy renner just can't pull it off, i'll never understand how they saw bigger-than-steve, blond-mess, purple-loving, coffee-addict comic clint and where like: "oh yeah, let's cast 5' 9" jeremy renner and give his character a huge, healthy family, and no mental health problems, that's just perfect😍"
it's just so sad to be aware of the awesomeness of comic clint and then watch the movies because you're constantly thinking "oh what could've been..." if they did comic accurate movie clint, he'd definitely be a fan-favourite and we'd have tons of edits, and ships, and merchandise, but NO, most mcu fans just forget about him or don't find him special or entertaining (bc his mcu version really really isn't) and he gets left out of all the casual merchandise you can find in random shops (i literally have an album on my phone that's dedicated to photos i took of cheap avengers merchandise with the "o6" avengers sans clint lmao)
you're obviously allowed to love movie clint and jeremy's portrayal, that's great!!! i was an mcu fan way before i even knew just how different comic clint was, and i loved mcu clint so much back then! but after reading the comics and thousands of fanfiction, i'm just really really angry that there isn't a good live action on screen representation of my all time favourite fictional character, and i think many people feel the same :(
okay, i think i'm done lmao.
anyways, shout out to avengers assemble clint, my one true love <3 the mcu should take notes.

First Line Analysis
Rules: post the first lines of up to 10 of your last fics/chapters posted on AO3 or your WIPs and try to draw some conclusions.
Thanks @joeyalohadream for the tag! I was tempted to do the first 10 chapters of Such Stuff but I wanted this thing to have some more variety so here we are!
Love at second sight
The first time Bucky falls in love he’s five years old and he’s running around in his front yard when his mother comes up to him and introduces him to the new neighbors’ daughter, a little girl with blue eyes and blond hair tied up in the most pullable pigtails he’s even seen.
As the world caves in
Bucky is shipping out tomorrow and Gale doesn’t exactly know how he feels about it.
I dont know why I bite
Bucky dreams of home every night.
Nothing but blue skies from now on
It's been years but the war still lurks in the back of Buck's mind, jumping at him when he's most vulnerable, when he's asleep.
With shortness of breath you explained the infinite/No grave can hold my body down (I'll crawl home to him)
On a morning in the spring of 1961, Bucky wakes up feeling funny.
Such stuff as dreams are made on
An algebra class at first period is something Gale wouldn’t wish upon his worst enemy.
Courage, to make's love known
John wakes slowly, rubbing his face on the pillow and blinking a few times, blearily taking in his surroundings before remembering where he is; in the New York apartment where he's going to spend the next six weeks of shows.
Let the brokenness be felt 'til you reach the other side
I left him behind.
I think the love I bear you should make you not to die (Timelines AU, WIP)
In every timeline, they’re destined to meet.
I'll set the table, you can make the fire (WIP)
They see their men again at Benny's wedding, and it's just as strange as they'd thought.
Weird enough I have come to some conclusions! For instance, even if I write from Gale's POV 90% of the time, I start with John's name more often than not.
I also never start with a dialogue, apparently.
I tend to have short first lines - which is weird because I do not possess the gift of brevity.
I have two fics that start with the exact same line, being one the alternate version of the other! And it's my favorite opening line ever.
Such stuff's opening line is the funniest.
But most of all, I realized I need to change the opening line for the Timelines AU because it sounds like the tagline for one of those summer blockbusters with superheroes or some shit 😭😭 I promise you it's something more philosophical than that 😅
Tagging @alienoresimagines and @ranger-elizabeth if y'all want 😎

5 for eene obv, 7 for ed and may, 12, 23, and then 25 for eddy!
Thanks for the ask!
5. Out of all your EENE fanworks, which is your favourite?
It’s weird I feel like I’ve had two distinct eras of eene fandom, you know? But I’d probably have to go with my magnum opus like me still. It’s been one of the most ambitious and challenging creative projects I’ve ever attempted for the show, and it’s honestly connected me with so many more amazing fans 🥰
7. Is there a piece of clothing you think ED/MAY is particularly fond of/that you imagine them wearing a lot or like to draw them in?
I’d love to figure out a way for Ed to repurpose his green jacket when he inevitably grows out of it. Maybe he makes a bunch of patches from it that he sticks on other stuff. I also had this idea for my adult AU where he only owns one pair of shoes and they are the most tattered blundstones you’ve ever seen. Idk I associate Ed with art handler fashion and memes (sorry this is probably a ridiculous niche thing).
May is a tricky one! I’m not sure I’ve nailed down her aesthetic 100% yet. Some mix of cottage-witch and millennial that was once an emo/scene kid but hasn’t really grown out of it. I think May really likes lounge clothes - massively oversized sweatpants she had to cut cropped because they dragged, worn in t-shirt she cant let go of even if it’s getting holes, fuzzy socks. I just think it’s cute.
12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
I’ve definitely thought of some stupid shit, mostly through absurd crossovers. This would have been over 10 years ago now but I’d whipped up a RuPaul’s Drag Race AU where they were all contestants (in this version it was inclusive of all drag, not just queens). I truly hope nobody finds this thing lol.
23. Has your favourite character/ship changed over time?
I just genuinely love the three eds equally. I have an extra soft spot for Ed and always have. And eddeddy has been THE otp for over a decade. No change there.
25. What's your least favourite thing EDDY said or did?
I usually support Eddy’s many wrongs but I guess I was disappointed in how unsympathetic he was to Ed in Little Ed Blue. Like that’s your best bud, you’re not a little worried? Don’t get me wrong, it’s extremely in character and says a lot about his (and even Edd’s) upbringing and overall the episode is fucking hilarious “look at me, I’m a chicken. How bout I lay an egg?” I love this little jerk. I’m sure there are objectively worse things but that’s the first one that came to mind.

Hello Kita~ 1, 20 and 30 for Flash? (ohoho I'm so evil I'm giving you an opportunity to talk about the character you like. oh the mischief. oh the wickedness)
Oh, you know, why not? Why not talk forever and ever about one of my most favorite characters in the world
My first impression of them. For Flash, I honestly... don't remember? I know I took a liking to him pretty quickly, since I didn't have any real attachment to any version of Flash outside 616. Sure he existed in the films, but I didn't.. like.. pay attention to them. And even less so for any cartoons.
Predictably, perhaps unfortunately, my first real exposure to Flash was in the Remender/Bunn Venom run, and then Venom: Space Knight. I read both of these in like late 2016-early 2017. I think my favorite thing about him was his dedication to protecting Andi Benton late in his Agent Venom days. I loved that he was a teacher, and that he super cared about kids (similarly to the other Venom I was already at the time very fond of!).
In fact, it kind of got to the point where I liked Flash better than Eddie. But then I learned you really don't have to choose. You can have it all. 😌
20. A weird headcanon Hmm.... I don't know that I have any really weird headcanons for him? I have some super specific ones, like that I think he takes his coffee black (Americano, no muss no fuss). Also half-nabbing this from @softgrungeprophet but I think Flash also potentially has an interesting relationship with gender and sexuality. I think especially after going to space and just like, seeing how HUGE the universe is and how western notions of things like identity might feel kind of trivial after ~6 months of gallivanting among the stars. Not to say necessarily that going to space made him come out of the closet but. I think that would be the funniest possible takeaway.
30. The funniest scene they had? I got this question a couple times, so I'll answer with just one of my favorite funny scenes. I adore his first conversation with the Venom Symbiote in Venom: Space Knight #4 (R. Thompson, Olivetti). The comedic timing is just brilliant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ship promptly getting struck by a beam and crash landing really sells it. Just. They're in the middle of the most meaningful conversation in their whole time bonded to each other and then they just get interrupted by Space Pirates Bullshit. Because of COURSE they do. Because this is COMICS.
also they are really sweet i would die for them 🥺

Persona 3 Reload *SPOILERS*
So, I've let this sit for two weeks now and I think it's time for me to finally dish my thoughts. There will be spoilers for those that either haven't finished Reload or those who haven't played any version of Persona 3 at all. If you haven't done either one, I highly recommend you stop reading and go finish it *now*. This is your only warning at this point.
Have you finished it? OK, good. Let's get started.
Persona 3 Reload is a really, really good game. It makes what was once old new again and playing through P3R gave me the same strong feelings I had back when I first played Persona 3 FES. It was like meeting an old friend again after they got themselves both a makeover and nearly 20 years passed between the last time you saw them in person.
Let me get my nitpicky stuff out of the way before I heap the praise it deserves.
I straight-up did not like them taking away school club choice from us. How dare they?! I wanted to do Kendo and Photography like I did in FES, yet I was stuck with Track and Art? If I had to be stuck with a culture club, music should've been the canon club of choice. Our protagonist literally wears headphones all the time! You can't show me the music room at least thrice and tease me with us seeing it, yet not joining the club.
I hate the name change for Operation Babe Hunt. What's wrong with calling it Operation Babe Hunt? The name was fine! It was the creepy behavior of the boys and the transmisogyny that was the problem in it in the original, not the name!
The AI programming is shit. Look, a majority of folks bitching about not being able to control the characters in the original game and FES are being whiny babies that don't know how to use the tactics menu. It's a nitpick because I know that the game has decidedly gone for direct control, but honestly? I would've loved the sophisticated AI that Persona 3 and 3 FES used to be utilized.
Folks bitching about the High-Cut Bikini honestly just need to calm the fuck down. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. Whatever happened to the "Don't like? Don't use!" mindset? You're not being forced by evoker-point to use it.
The music is a downgrade. Lotus Juice is fine as always, but the new singer had a tough job to take over for Yumi Kawamura and fucking failed. The new songs that Yumi never sang are fine, but the new versions of the original songs? Oof. It is bad. Mass Destruction was whack and the less said about her version of Kimi no Kioku, the better.
So, yeah, those are my main nitpicks. Now onto the praise.
The voice acting is top-tier. And I need to put it in a second post because it would be too long. Just know that the English dub is fantastic and no one misses in it at all.
The extra scenes and hangouts we get with the boys are perfect. It fleshes out the guys in ways I wouldn't have expected. For example, I never knew Akihiko was adopted and has parents until Reload put that in there. Do you want to know where that information was originally known? In an artbook and a drama CD! Thank you, Reload, for giving us this vital information I never knew about.
The animation where there's a fusion accident is the funniest fucking thing they've added to the game. I love it, it's hilarious.
They made Shinjiro's death even sadder than the original. For those who have not played the original/FES, Shinjiro has enough strength to walk off before dropping dead under a streetlight. It was a more surreal, trippy moment for his death than anything else because of the art direction in the original/FES. In Reload? They went with what was shown in the movies, with Shinjiro dying in Akihiko's arms. If I had a nickel for every time the edgier of the two men in the ship die in the other's arms, it'd be two nickels. It's not a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice now. Not to mention the link episodes with Shinjiro are killer. You actually get to see how Shinjiro would look in his school uniform and, fuck, seeing baby Shinjiro, Mitsuru, and Akihiko together is just... it breaks the heart. And that conversation with Mitsuru the day after when you go in Shinjiro's room? Fucking ow! Way to break my heart, Shinjiro.
I'm glad that you *can* save Chidori's life. My Junpei/Chidori heart is so happy about that. And Junpei's second theurgy? Heartbreakingly beautiful, whether Chidori lives or dies.
I am so glad the game allows us to ask why Takaya doesn't wear a shirt. Strega's motivations have always been clear to me from day one. But Takaya, why the fuck do you not wear a shirt?
But yeah, those are my thoughts. It's a good remake. If you're not certain it's for you, try it out on GamePass. Otherwise? Buy it, you won't regret it.

Notes on SU Commentary Tracks
I watched the commentary tracks on the Complete Steven Universe DVD Set and I took some nerd notes.
Tumblr media
The episodes with commentary tracks are “Reunited,” “Change Your Mind,” and “The Future.”
I’ll bold stuff that was maybe bigger news or more surprising for easier reading. And yes, some of this was already known from podcasts, other Q&As, or interviews, but I listed it if they said it again here.
Read on after the jump to read these and other highlights:
Steven’s original wedding speech
Older ideas on dialogue for Lapis when she came back to the beach
Scrapped concepts for the scene that ultimately included Steven communicating with the others in a mindscape
Discussions of earlier concepts for White Diamond having a power to “freeze” Gems into statues to make them perfect and having a gallery of them on Homeworld
Pink Pearl’s original fate
The translation of the writing on Obsidian’s sword
The origin of Pink Steven’s design
What Rebecca did to pitch the “SHE’S GONE” scene
Earlier plans to include Shep in “Change Your Mind”
An unused concept of how Steven feels about Biggs
The inspiration for the Heaven and Earth Beetles’ healed design
How Volleyball/Pink Pearl was almost a mini-villain
Discussion of how they did not get to share the origin of the Diamonds
Jasper’s scrapped participation in the movie
Tumblr media
“Reunited” -
Commentary with Rebecca Sugar, Ben Levin, Matt Burnett, Hilary Florido, Joe Johnston, Ian Jones-Quartey, and Kat Morris.
In 2015, an episode idea called “If You Love Yourself So Much” was discussed but rejected. It included some early ideas that ended up getting incorporated into “Reunited,” most notably Garnet marrying herself and putting rings on both hands.
The idea of the Cluster arm wrestling was planned for a long time. A scrapped idea of Steven banging his fist on a vending machine to get some Chaaaaps was supposed to visually parallel some of that scene, but it was axed.
When they got pushback on the wedding idea, they kept adding more and more “high entertainment value” items like a big musical number so the episode would be absolutely unmissable and appealing to everyone.
The song at the beginning of the episode was meant to check in with the entire cast and sort of remind you they exist and what their state of mind is going into the wedding.
Ian made a comment joking about “All 15 people in Beach City” being in the audience.
Just about everyone on the Crew touched this episode, despite that there are four main storyboarders credited for “Reunited.”
In 2016 Ian Jones-Quartey proposed marriage to Rebecca Sugar. They felt like the characters based on them (Sapphire and Ruby) HAD to get married in the show now because otherwise it wouldn’t be honest. But then their characters got married before they did.
They really love the idea of having characters get married who have known each other for a really long time, versus the fairy tale trope of movies ending with weddings between people who have met very recently.
Steven’s speech as officiator at the wedding used to be longer in its first draft--it was described as being weird and full of jokes, and there would have been a scene with Pearl getting weepy and pulling tissues out of her pearl.
Ian mentions loving a joke Jeff came up with having Greg play one chord to make Steven fall asleep--it’s sort of a “dream” chord you hear in cartoons a lot before a dream sequence.
The Crew discussed what it might be like if someone had never seen the show before and started with this episode.
Ian really wanted Steven’s psychic powers to figure into the episode.
Blue using a sadness wave to attack the Gems was a very old idea they’d planned for a long time. So was Lapis’s arrival.
There was a discussion of having Lisa Hannigan performing her lines as Blue VERY early in the morning.
Ian was happy the sword got broken because it was so momentous but it was just a sword. And later appeared on a shelf in the house as an artifact.
Miki had drawn a torn dress for Garnet at one point so she could be shown fighting and moving around more accurately, and this led to a long discussion of whether Gem clothing can even actually get torn the way human clothes can. They concluded that no, it shouldn’t be torn, so they backed up and gave Garnet an open-front dress from the beginning so the fighting version would make more sense.
Lapis originally might have had a longer speech upon arriving back on the beach. They eventually decided to just have her say “Hey.”
The barn falling on Blue Diamond was an intentional Wizard of Oz reference.
They point out that Steven even once said “drop the barn on the beach” (in a previous episode, “Can’t Go Back,” which was also a Miki episode).
Destroying the house was a big deal, and they always thought they’d end up doing it but backed away from it until “Reunited.” They almost even did it back in “Coach Steven”! But it just ended up with a little damage to the porch.
The Crew thinks Miki is really good at drawing ensemble shots.
Rebecca was always overwhelmed whenever she got to have Patti LuPone record for Yellow.
Originally the giant figures of everyone’s statue bodies in the mindscape were too dark and had to be revamped so they could be seen.
An earlier idea of Steven’s “psychic-ghost-situation” had him as a ghost actually trying to interact with the other characters during fighting action, but it was pulled back to this mindscape so there wouldn’t be as much confusing action to keep track of and more focus on what Steven was doing to encourage his teammates and contact the Diamonds.
Hilary was glad not to have to block out a fight.
Ian mentions loving having Bismuth back in the group.
They originally wanted the “Diamonds sensing Pink’s energy” plot to happen when Steven was in the palace somehow, but everything got moved to this scene--which the Crew all agrees turned out incredible, like how cool it was to have Steven essentially reminding each character why they fight and summing up their whole arc in a sentence.
“Change Your Mind”
Commentary with Rebecca Sugar, Ben Levin, Matt Burnett, Hilary Florido, Joe Johnston, Ian Jones-Quartey, and Kat Morris.
They like to refer to this episode as “The movie before the movie.”
They loved incorporating “princess tropes” into Steven’s time on Homeworld, which is why there were so many references to “mice” (well, Pebbles) making clothes, being locked in a tower, being reminded of his manners, loving animals and freeing imprisoned pets, etc.
Deedee did the voice of the rainbow worm pet. She apparently didn’t find it memorable and was surprised when she was reminded she did the voice.
Rebecca was super excited for the confrontation with Blue.
There was some discussion of how Steven would have died of starvation if he didn’t have someone practical like Connie to remember to bring food.
They love working with the huge scale the Diamonds present.
The Crew always wanted to put someone in Blue’s hair loop. Originally they wanted Blue to tuck Greg in there when she kidnapped him, but they didn’t end up being able to do any hair-loop-carrying until this episode.
The Crew bantered back and forth about what the heck those Pebbles’ names were and how hard it was to track them.
They agreed that Paul draws the best Yellow Diamond, which makes sense since he also drew the first episode with Yellow (and her stink face).
The scene where Yellow asks Blue to stop using her powers on her and then realizing she’s crying on her own was one of Rebecca’s favorite scenes to get to finally.
Steven Sugar thought Gems would spend a lot of time in their own chambers/rooms just not really doing much of anything unless they had to fulfill their purpose.
Some of the Homeworld ideas were based on a Soviet artist’s concepts, Boris Artzybasheff, and also many ideas were inspired by Busby Berkeley regarding how people were objects and furniture.
The mech was an old idea. Once they had the hand ship from “Jailbreak,” they knew there had to be bodies somewhere.
They focused a lot about what could be the coolest and funniest way for something to happen. The concept of the yellow and blue spaceship arms appearing out of the sky to smack the White Diamond mech around was one of those.
Rebecca really wanted things to look more and more cartoony and bizarre as you get deeper into Homeworld.
They spent a very long time trying to decide on characters’ new outfits.
The trash can lid is said to be a reference to “a flying bear cartoon” and they dance around speaking a direct reference because they’re not sure they’re allowed to say its name.
In discussing the powers of the Diamonds, there were debates on what White’s power would be; with Yellow being physicality-based and Blue being emotion-based, they thought White as identity-based made the most sense.
Different ways to express this were played with before settling on the idea that she thinks she’s perfect and others’ colors make them less like her and less perfect. But then she becomes a hostage to her own beliefs about herself because if she does anything that reflects on everyone else, so it’s best to do nothing.
They had some cool earlier ideas of White’s powers making statues out of other Gems and having a gallery full of frozen Gems, frozen by White to make them perfect.
They also weren’t sure what fate befell the original Pink Pearl and discussed whether she might have been destroyed.
Rebecca discussed how creepy it was to have White Pearl speaking in Christine’s voice and not Deedee’s--that we should find it fundamentally disturbing at this point.
Tom Herpich came up with the crack on White Pearl’s face.
In real life, pink diamonds aren’t understood as well as yellows and blues. It’s more known what makes a diamond yellow or blue, and some of those facts Rebecca researched were originally woven into the speech White gave about their “impurities.” But it turned out to be too dry and most of it got cut.
Rebecca loves having Lapis with pants and sandals for easier cosplay.
Ian had to draw the scene where Steven is falling and fusing with inert characters--he wasn’t able to properly explain it to Rebecca so she had him draw it.
They really wanted Rainbow Quartz 2.0 to have a scarf, but they couldn’t figure out how to get that into Pearl’s design. They miss the scarf.
It was really important to have these Fusions display call-forwards of the Gems’ new outfits which we hadn’t yet seen.
Rebecca points out that Sunstone’s design breaks a design rule and she feels like Sunstone should have Garnet’s pant leg colors on their legs, but at the same time she understands the rule of cool and likes it like this.
It’s discussed how none of Steven’s fusion weapons are exclusively offensive weapons either.
Rebecca still really wants a suction cup Sunstone toy.
Sunstone’s ability to transcend reality and break the fourth wall was a joke that exploded in the discussion room among the Crew. As soon as the idea was pitched everyone kept coming up with ideas. Sardonyx’s fourth-wall-breaking is more snarky, but Sunstone’s is helpful.
Rebecca was disappointed that the rule about Steven’s clothes wasn’t always followed with having his clothes appear on Obsidian’s hand, but she was delighted that you could see them in one scene.
They spent a lot of discussion time on making sure Steven-Obsidian was different somehow from Rose-Obsidian. The hair is different.
Old versions of Obsidian were drawn with wrapped-together Twizzlers legs, which sort of is reflected in the present design.
The sword had been planned forever--and it first appeared in “Bubble Buddies.”
Miki worked on the Ninja Turtles show so Rebecca was really excited to see her depictions of Bismuth and Sunstone.
An early plan to have Obsidian draw the sword from their mouth was complicated because fusion weapons should be combinations, so they finally reached the solution of having them combine to make the hilt, then get the blade out of Obsidian’s mouth.
The blade of the sword is thought to say “We’ll always save the day,” but you’d have to ask Steven Sugar.
Another really old idea was climbing into the White Diamond mech eye.
Rebecca was disappointed that some of the merch made of White Diamond did not feature her cape sparkles.
There were many debates early on about where Rose might “actually” be. There were tons of references to this fundamental question throughout the show--introducing Lapis as a Gem trapped in an object, having Pearl ponder pulling Steven’s Gem out as a baby, straight-up wondering what would happen to him in “Bubbled” when Eyeball was trying to take his Gem, etc. They all decided Rose was definitely gone but that the idea of her possibly being inside him should be on his mind a lot, leading to disturbing images like dreaming about coughing up her hair.
Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond both challenged Steven about things he was very confident about, but White’s question of his identity got to him because he in fact is not confident about that.
The black and white eeriness of the fuzzy background and the other characters having their colors washed out helped make the scene in White Diamond’s head so disturbing and creepy.
The split screen showing Steven’s two perspectives was exciting to Rebecca, and was a pretty old idea. And she points out it sort of “breaks the show.”
The Gem Steven, Pink Steven, was represented by a slightly modified version of his model sheet. Everyone laughed when they saw what was getting used.
They decided that an earlier idea of Pink Steven looking angry should be replaced by an emotionless version of him. All the emotion should be with Organic Steven.
In the pitch meeting for this episode, Rebecca herself screamed “SHE’S GONE!!” and shocked the hell out of everyone. She pointed out how no one expected this of her because she’s pretty quiet, but she just wanted to shock everyone the way Steven would in the show.
They point out this is the first appearance of the geometric shield that got so much use in Future.
The fact that Steven is Steven is the ultimate reveal of the show. Usually in fantasy shows there’s some other kind of revelation, but Steven just being amazingly human and amazingly Gem and amazingly himself is wonderful here.
They like having the pilot reference with “What’s your excuse?”
If Rose had somehow still been alive in him, all of this would have been cheapened.
Ian loves that you can faintly hear Sadie’s concert from way out in space as the camera approaches Earth.
They got a lot more use out of the Beach-A-Palooza stage than they thought they would when it had to be designed for “Steven and the Stevens.” There was a joke about how at one of the conventions a real Beach-A-Palooza stage was constructed and they had a thought about how oh good, it’s getting reused.
Sadie having green hair in the finale was a late change but they liked showing her progression.
They had originally kicked around the idea of Sadie already having her new partner Shep at this point, but decided to develop that in Future instead.
They compare White Diamond’s stepping gingerly into the fountain to skeptically getting into a public pool.
Some silliness they didn’t get to use was that Biggs would be “beloved by everyone” except Steven. They never got to cover it, but originally Steven was just going to not really understand why everyone loves her so much and doesn’t personally much care for her.
The Heaven and Earth Beetles are based on the Mothra Ladies.
The healed Gems’ horns are supposed to be side effects of the corruption that they continue to bear in the present.
Larimar and Orange Spodumene ended up different in the ending scene than they became in Future. Many of the designs were retroactively pulled into this scene after being designed for the movie.
Rebecca wrote “Change Your Mind” as a personal song to express her feelings surrounding her fight for the wedding.
“The Future”
Commentary with Rebecca Sugar, Kat Morris, Alonso Ramirez Ramos, Hilary Florido, Joe Johnston, and Ian Jones-Quartey.
The animatic for this episode ran SO long--they’re supposed to be just over 11 minutes but this one was 17 minutes.
Steven’s calisthenics routine, a callback to “Future Vision,” was on the chopping block to make the episode shorter but Rebecca wouldn’t allow it to be cut because she wanted to show that Steven’s been taking care of himself.
They were very excited to get a chance to cover some of the things in Future that they couldn’t squeeze into the original show, like the unbubbled Rose Quartzes, Volleyball, etc.
The new writers on the show also helped bring forward the idea of Steven finally making some of his OWN mistakes to fix.
This also helped construct the idea of Steven essentially being the “final boss” of his own battle.
Usually stories that involve someone being in a fight and winning don’t explore the effect just being in a fight has on a person, regardless of whether you won.
Rebecca really wanted to play Ocarina of Time after beating it so she could go back to all the places and see how people were doing. She wanted this epilogue series to explore that a little too.
Little Homeschool is sort of a Tiny Toons reference--older cartoons teach younger cartoons how to be cartoons, and this is Gems teaching other Gems how to be Gems on Earth.
Lamar came up with the silly joke about receiving that art set with all the different media types in it--the one artists are always getting from a well-meaning relative at holiday time.
A scrapped plot idea involved Volleyball/Pink Pearl as a sort of “mini-villain,” with a focus on her activating the un-activated Pearls.
There’s discussion of how victimization turns people into villains sometimes. But since showing that happening with Volleyball wouldn’t have served the interests of Steven’s arc, they couldn’t fit it in.
There was also a “very specific” Gem origin and Diamond origin story that’s quasi-religious in nature--it’s very cool and complicated. But they do not tell us what it is.
Ian and Joe both really wanted to have Jasper living alone in the woods and stacking rocks. They’re glad they got this series to do that with her.
There was originally an idea for a B-plot involving Jasper in the movie. They don’t discuss the specifics.
There were many ideas they didn’t get to work on because they would have started new arcs and Future was not about kicking new plots into gear.
“Mr. Universe” was the last episode they wrote/finished.
Miki really wanted to include a kiss between Connie and Steven to show their relationship was okay. Among the Crew everyone knew their relationship was basically eternal but Miki wanted to make sure WE knew that.
Steven driving conveyed momentum for Future; in the original show, we always came back to the laundry hand, back to home, but in Future that’s changed and home isn’t what it was.
They were really excited that a gourd family made it to the crowd scene in Future.
Thanks for reading!
Note: The movie had some commentary tracks too, but the one on this DVD set is the same as the one released on the original standalone movie DVD, so I did not outline it here. Here is my post about the DVD commentary from the movie.

For the ask meme! Your top 5 of the funniest moments in Bleach! I hope you don't mind me asking :D Also, if you want to talk about any other top and it hasn't been asked, feel free to add it! ♥♥♥
Ask me for my Top 5/Top 10 of anything!
Thank you for bringing me some laughs with this list! Unfortunately couldn't get gifs for all of these because they didn't turn up in the search/the scene hasn't been adapted yet.
5. Ikkaku's lucky dance
Tumblr media
The first time I saw this, I couldn't stop laughing, and every time I've gone back and rewatched this scene since usually gets a chuckle out of me. It comes right the heck out of nowhere and I love seeing all the reactions from the characters (Ichigo and Ganju are just dumbfounded into silence, and Yumichika is just like 'this again?? Oh God...'
4. Ichigo at Kukaku's
Tumblr media
The animation and voice acting (both original and English dub) really helps with this one. From the moment Ganji and Ichigo recognised each other and screamed, I was laughing. The fight they have, then Kukaku blowing up the house, and Ichigo and Ganji agreeing about how they view Kukaku, it all hilarious. Wheh it turns out later that they're cousins, this scene got even better to rewatch.
3. Ichigo ships Renruki throws Rukia
Tumblr media
It's a classic moment, and one that always makes me smile. I don't know what I find funnier: that Ichigo thought it was a good idea ot throw Rukia, or Rukia's scream as she's flying down to Renji, or Renji catching Rukia and both are sent spinning away, or their reaction after it's all happened. It's all great and makes for one of the most memorable (and funny) moments in the whole series.
2. Of chickens and eyebrows
Tumblr media
Ah, what could have been. From Bazz B pausing the battle just to check if Renji was insulting his mohawk to Renji's little praise of chickens ("What? Don't like chickens? They get up early, lay eggs. They're awesome.") to the glorious moment when Bazz B reveals he actually thought Renji's eyebrows were 'cool razor-sharp' and Renji just basking in that moment while Rukia [after having enough of Renji being sad no likes his eyebrows] just watches on before it all come crashing down and the battle has to continue, it's all comedy gold for me. I refer to this moment and this duo as 'chicken eyebrows', for that reason and I can't help but wonder in some weird alternate universe if these two had gotten along what kind of dorky, dumb nonsense they could have gotten up to. Regardless, I can't wait to see this animated!
1. Recruiting Hitsugaya to be part of the Kendo team
Tumblr media
This moment is just...surreal (heck, the whole episode is, have you seen the faces the characters make throughout?), but it never fails to make me laugh! Just looking at the gif version has me grinning and trying to suppress a laugh.
Where do you start with this scene? At worst it's complete crack and at best it's taking certain traits within Toshiro and cranking them up to 11 for comedic effect. We've got Ikkaku trying to bribe Toshiro (who is already in the Kendo gear) with candy and snacks while on his hands and knees. When this doesn't work, he instead tries bribe him with toys - one of which is a gun... What's even more bizzare to me though is Toshiro, without question it seems, just got into the gear after Ikkaku told him it was urgent. Can you imagine Ikkaku rushing in and telling a captain that he needs to get dressed into this gear right now. It's mentioned the gear belongs to a grade schooler, which makes Toshiro think up this crayoned masterpiece:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why is there a chicken and chicks in the background? Why the heck is there an airplane? Why is he imagining Ikkaku blushing and smiling like that? Just...who came up with this?! Someone or some people had to sit down and draw this. No, they not only had to draw it, they or someone else then had to colour it, fix any errors, and then put it together for animation...On a side note, can someone tell me what it says on his school bag?
After all of this though, you get the actual masterpiece of Toshiro's reaction. How is it so hilarious and threatening at the same time? How is not a meme within the BLEACH community at this point? It might be absolute crack, but I just can't help but laugh at the sheer absurdity and weirdness of the whole thing!
Thanks for sending this in! :D

more rift apart feefees big spoilers!! big big spoilers for the whole thing!!!! don't read until you finish!
emperor nefarious has an actual neck which is so funny to me like is that the secret to your success
the cut where clank comes back from the dimension puzzle to emp. nefarious clutching ratchet by the neck is like. so good I did not see that coming but it makes total sense given how clank seems to experience the puzzles as like a trance state.
I liked the vibe that everyone was constantly helping each other out. I loved the mix-and-match of clank/kit and rivet/ratchet depending on the level. I love that there was a whole damn level breaking ratchet and kit out of jail as rivet and clank (especially because emp. nef was just like "oh yeah you two go in BIG MAXIMUM SECURITY JAIL you could shoot me")
I don't care for talwyn or ship talchet so the fact that she wasn't there at all is a big plus for me lol!
I love that ratchet just meets robots and tries to give them nicknames!! what a fuckin sweetheart I love him so much. I also loved his tendency to use like "real-world" weird self-voice-modulation for some lines (the one where he mentions the underside of a snagglebeast comes to mind as an example) it felt very realistic to me, especially as someone who also will do that same thing in conversation
I loved all the dialogue implications that ratchet and clank are Super Fucking Retired like clank saying to Gary "it's been a long time since I've been a hero" or something like that? oh my heart my sweet boys!!!!
I love the chaos that starts in the last two levels or so when the goons start helping you out and then suddenly you have so many factions and npcs on your side and they're starting prison riots and providing support cover and helping you fight the final boss I love character chaos and it was a nice warm feeling so it was great
the credits are just the four main characters having fun and going on a picnic and shit like yes that's exactly what I want ratchet and clank have nice relatable friends now and live a life of married domestic bliss forever and rivet and kit become friends!
like was it just the video I watched or did ratchet and clank legit stare at each other while "I can't see me loving nobody but you" played on the radio at the beginning of ardolis part 2 clatchet is real
I'll say it again - ratchet and clank both being actively grossed out and horrified by the skeleton versions of regular enemies or "bone goons" as they call them is some of the funniest fucking dialogue in the whole game. the npc line where a nefarious trooper is going on about how "the army of the undead is impeding our progress" also made me laugh out loud. this was a damn funny game.

Anyone from ducktales, 3, 5, 9, 18, 21, 22, 28, 30
You've given me so much power! It's tough to choose, but I think I'm going to go with...Fenton!
3. A song that reminds me of them
I'm so bad at this. Um...let's go with "Holding Out for a Hero" because it's epic and he probably listens to the in-universe version of the song in the shower going "Man, I wish I could be that hero." I can also see Darkwing Duck doing this.
5. My favorite ship of them
Eh. I don't feel super strongly about an Fenton ships. Gandra's fine, and I do like her redemption arc a lot. I wish we'd gotten to see more of that.
9. Your least favorite outfit of them
I guess the suit he wore on his date with Gandra? Fenton + pants are weird...and shoulder pads?
18. How do you think they were as a kid? (Like, were they shy, noisy, wild, etc)
I think Fenton was one of those kids who got fully invested in things (usually making balsa wood models and taking apart appliances) and would not stop talking about them to anyone who would listen. And he also could not take a hint if the person he was talking to did not want to listen. His mamĂĄ was good about doing her best to listen and gently redirecting him when she needed a break.
21. When do you think they were at their happiest?
End of this scene. Or maybe this scene.
22. When do you think they were at their lowest?
Beginning of this scene.
28. The most unnecessary thing they ever did?
Posting Gyro's research on the internet to crowdsource solutions >.<
30. The funniest scene they had?
That bit in Astro B.O.Y.D. where he says "Bla!" to put on only the one Gizmoduck gauntlet 😂
Thank you!!! 😊

Please tell me the plots and songs of the glee episode I need to know
Ok so going in I want to note that I turned off the TV and abandoned Glee when Sarah Jessica Parker showed up because it was a bridge too far, so it’s more of “if Hamilton had come out earlier” than “if Glee had kept going.” I would also like to note that many of these plot points are in very poor taste and problematic, because a lot of Glee was in very poor taste and problematic. I’m not trying to outline a good version of a Hamilton Glee episode, I’m trying to outline a realistic version.
Also this got to a point where it’s so long that it needs a readmore. So if you don’t care you can just scroll on by.
So the A plot is obviously Rachel Berry being pissed off at the Hamilton rules that the main cast be played people of color except for King George, because she would rather die than be out of the spotlight for an hour. Rachel is a terrible person and exactly the kind of terrible person who would be mad at this. She would also be terrible at rapping. A very ripped from the (broadway) headlines conflict, there were a lot of white people in 2016 who were very mad about having one show where they couldn’t audition for the lead roles.
They’re learning about the Revolutionary War in history class and there’s some BS reason that they need to sing songs about history. They’re doing Hamilton instead of 1776 because it’s more hip. Anyways there’s a half-assed debate over whether they’ll follow the same rules as the real show for their production, we have some snappy but stupid dialogue of Kurt asking if being gay counts as being a poc, they decide they will follow the Hamilton guidelines, and Mr. Schue stands up to Rachel for once and says she can’t sing a main song and has to do ensemble, even though she starts to sing a few bars of “Burn” in the middle of class, which is interrupted by the bell. We all know they won’t sing the actual songs but instead a mashup, but it’s decided that the parts of the songs will be doled out appropriately.
Because of this we have our first actual song, which is Rachel performing “Nonstop” in the hallways of McKinley High. It is not good. It is one where if you downloaded the Glee cast album, you would skip it. We have several versions of her in different costumes doing all the roles. It’s too much. She has her hair in a ponytail and a fake goatee to look like Lin Manuel Miranda.
Now in our B plot, Santana and Brittany broke up for some reason. What reason? Doesn’t matter. It’s always Kurt and Blaine or Santana and Brittany breaking up, and I want more Santana solos than Kurt falsetto. Santana is upset about this, and we get an actually awesome version of “Satisfied” as she watches Brittany flirt with someone new. This would be a good enough cover that you would definitely download it.
Back to the A plot. Mercedes, Mike, Unique, Blaine (if Glee acknowledged that Darren Criss is Filipino, I can’t remember if they did or not), and Tina (Santana maybe, she could be somewhere else if needed) are getting annoyed with Rachel for being, well, Rachel, and they channel those feelings into a really good cover of “Burn” mashed up with “My Shot” (”I hope that you buuurn-” “I am not throwing away my shot!”). Rachel overhears this and takes it extremely personally. She runs to have a breakdown in the bathroom. You would download this song as well, it would slap.
In the bathroom, Rachel sings “Hurricane.” The song ends with a toilet flushing, symbolizing the hurricane.
Then Brittany walks in to the bathroom with the B Plot and tries to say something kind of nice because she’s not a totally shitty person and will not be a dick to a crying person when Santana walks in. She yells at Rachel for like 2 minutes for talking to Brittany and also for making everything about herself. The camera frames this in a way where we understand that we’re supposed to feel bad for Rachel. The insults are the funniest part of the episode because Naya Rivera was excellent, may she rest in peace.
They all realize that they need to work together if they want to do this performance right (is it a singing competition? a fundraiser? It does not matter) and we get an ensemble performance of “Guns and Ships” as they get ready and make up.
Our A plot is resolved with whichever guy they had doing the King George part getting food poisoning, it really doesn’t matter who, and Rachel gets to do those parts, which end up taking up way more of the mashup than they deserve to and teaching her nothing. The final number is basically The Hamilton Polka but without the joking noises. If Weird Al had less money they’d copy it straight up, like they did with the Jonathan Coulton version of Baby Got Back.
Now there may be some more songs in there to bulk up the episode but not really add to the plot (Sue Sylvester and Mr. Schue doing “The Farmer Refuted” in the principal’s office could be good),  but these are the main ones. If we could somehow get Mercedes, Tina, and Santana to do “The Schuyler Sisters” that would also be excellent but I can’t quite figure out where it would go. I also can’t find a good place for “Say No to This,” I think it could be either something with Quinn or Mr. Schue being incredibly inappropriate with a student. Maybe with Miss Pillsbury if it’s at a point where that’s a thing? It would be incredibly awkward to see two white kids in Ohio say “Immigrants- We get the job done” but it would happen and there would be essays about it online.
Also if they can afford him, Lin Manuel Miranda has a guest spot as a history teacher. Following the precedent of Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth, they do not acknowledge his part in Hamilton. Jonathan Groff has a prior filming commitment and doesn’t appear in spite of being the original King George.

What's your opinion on different interpretations of Light and L's characters? By saying that i mean how they were portrayed in DN Drama, Musical (let's take Japanese version) and Movies.
Personally I find the most interesting interpretation of Light in the Drama, bc he's more soft and sympathetic. I'm not saying that I would prefer him to animanga!Light (animanga!Light is still the best), but at least it's something new and fresh (also, i absolutely LOVE the scene where Souichiro learns that his son was Kira all along and Light is just split bc he can't decide whether he wants to be Kira or wants his father alive and the scene is absolutely gut-wrenching I would sell my soul for it). If we speak about Japanese musical, I don't get Light's character here? In his first song ("Where's the justice?") he sings about unjust world and how everything is "just law, not law and order, but in the next song ("Hurricane") he already sings that he's the god of brend new world? I mean, his motivation moves from "wants to help innocents" to "wants to be god bc of boredom" kinda quickly? And DN Movies, well.... They certainly made Light darker and i don't like the fact bc it feels they made him darker so he could contrast with softer L.
Speaking of L, again, the best version is animanga version and we all know it 🛐. But I think I love his interpretation in Musical too? I love these songs that show us his thinking process and I love the fact that in Musical L and Light seem to obsess over each other like in canon (yk, bc they always sing about how it would be like to see the world through other's eyes etc.). I find Drama!L to be veeeeeeeery fan-servicy, but he's still entertaining, especially when the show allows him slow scenes where he doesn't have to take his shirt off 50 times during the dialogue, but instead speaks about his ideology or relationships with other people (scenes with Near, Yagami Souichiro, Light (esp the one where he tries to make him confess). As for Movies!L, well... I just don't like him. Neither L nor Light are the embodiment of good or justice but the creators made it seem like Light is absolutely evil and L is absolutely good and this pisses me off. L lets Misa Amane go free after Rem's death even though Misa killed tons of people and he tells Souichiro that he was sorry that he couldn't save Light so I presume that he would have let him go too (even if he wouldn't, it's still dumb, bc he let Misa go). Also fans are like "awww look at him giving a candy to a crying child he would've been such a great father". I mean, I'm not against making characters softer or kinder, but even in the animanga, where L tortured people and sacrificed criminals, there's still a huge L fanbase that sees him as a completely good guy. And by making Light darker and L kinder they as well could have said "yep, we have a villain and a hero, they are complete oopposites". Idk I just don't get it.
Your thoughts?
Hi hello! I have only seen half of the j-drama, watched the anime twice, watched the musical once, and saw the Netflix movie when it first came out. And I never really liked any of them nearly as much as the manga, so that's why I always sound like a broken record about it on this blog 😆 I just think the manga is by far the best-written, funniest, saddest, and prettiest-looking version all at once.
The drama might actually be my favourite alternate version Light as well out of all the things I've seen too, because that adaptation was also funny/entertaining and sometimes sad, and it often surprised me in a good way. And yeah, drama!Light was like an entirely different character, and maybe that's why he was more interesting and sympathetic to me than just a more watered-down/cardboard version of the original complicated manga guy. I find Light often gets turned into a privileged Mikami sort of character in adaptations, rather than the oddly-chill-at-times one with the weird sense of humour he was in the manga to me. And L is just almost always made more cartoony and goofy and/or emo and somehow cast in a heroic light while simultaneously still being a shady dude in everything he does, so I haven't ever really liked L in anything else very much. I do often hear people like musical!L a lot. And I feel like a wet blanket especially when talking about the musical in the fandom, because I just didn't really like it or feel particularly moved by it most of the time. Especially when it came to L and Light and the Lawlight aspect of stuff, which was boring and lacking in chemistry to me. I found most of it too sincere and serious and somber to be entertaining, as DN easily becomes extremely tedious to me when most of the dark/goofy humour and ironic slyness is sucked out of it like that. I feel a lot of adaptations focus so heavily on Lawlight that it actually gets boring to me too, even though it's also my favourite ship. It's a bit hard to explain, but I prefer Lawlight to almost be left as this curious little unspoken background thing going on in addition to all the other interesting stuff, rather than featured as this big, obvious central element of the plot. At least outside of fanmade stuff.
My next favourite version of DN overall after the manga is definitely the anime, simply because the voice acting and soundtrack is so good. But even that is still like "why the heck would you watch the anime when the manga is right there??" to me most of the time... 😆

The Case Study of Vanitas' cast is amazing because it's the only anime I've ever watched where the yaoi, yuri and straight ships are all as adorable as the others.
Jeanne x Vanitas : light and dark, Bourreau and Saviour, ennemies to lovers who's relationship heavily hinges on the desire they have for Jeanne to drink Vanitas' blood because of how good it tastes/feels for both of them, which is basically the vampire version of hate fuck/sex buddies. 10/10, wish we'd see more of this kind of dynamic well done.
Noe x Dominique : childhood friends to lovers with one of them having been in love with the other since they first met and the other being denser than a brick about it, and since they are both vampires, we get the "loves to drink the other's blood" trope x2. Sweet and adorable and pretty hot tbh, 10/10
Dominique x Jeanne : the scene where Dominique tells Jeanne that nothing is more important, in that moment, than to be close to and dance with her to admire and appreciate her beauty instantly sold me to this ship. A Bourreau and a vampire from House de Sade serving the Queen, that's basically commoner x noble and I love this kind of story. 10/10
Noe x Vanitas : honestly didn't see much going for this ship before ep 7 but Noe lamenting about not being the first to taste Vanitas' blood because it smells so good and not realising he's jealous opened up an ocean of possibilities. He's just so dense and Vanitas is a smart little shit who gets confused and angry and flustered and even crazy when his feelings become too much for him to handle and I think their dynamic would be extremely fun, were it to turn romantic. Also the fact that Vanitas isn't interested in someone who would fall in love with him *chef's kiss*. Watch Noe's dense ass head shatter all his barriers and make him accept his love because damn him, Vanitas, this man is going to love you whether you like it or not ! 10/10
I have less thoughts about Jeanne x Noe and Dominique x Vanitas but since it's basically cinnamon roll x cinnamon roll and smart ass little shit x smart ass little shit I'm sure the first would be extremely fluffy and cute while the other would be the funniest thing ever where love rhymes with constant bickering and competing (even in the bedroom).
I don't usually like poly ships because I always have my favourites in the relationships, but in this case ? I'm begging the creator to put these four together. They'd be the most powerful and iconic unit the world has ever seen and also the sweetest and stupidest one since they're all well-meaning morons. This would be hysterical.

Something I just realised about Hazel using light dust :
He showed us that, even in its raw form, light dust makes a shield around him, it's not a technological application of the dust, it's literally its natural power.
Which means that VELVET is the technological genius here, for managing to use light dust in such a different way to its natural form. Making it pick apart the weapons she takes a picture of and replicate them must have been helluva hard.

A. N. : This is totally random, so don’t ask where I got the idea. The only thing I will say is this : Penny Polendina would absolutely ADORE being a mother and she’d be a wonderful one.
Penny, holding a random baby who’s mother asked her to keep an eye on for a second and gently cooing at it, looking like maternity personified : Hello there little love~
Ruby, looking at her with hearts in her eyes : ... You know, I think having one or two kids might not be so bad.
Yang, who’s heard Ruby say she’d never have kids since she was 4 : *spits out her coffee*

Also I feel so much for Winter right now.
In 5 minutes, she just lost both of her little sisters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way her voice breaks while screaming Weiss’ name... I have a sister, an older one instead of a younger one, true, but still a sister, and I can imagine so well the pain Winter was feeling
Tumblr media
The grief is so great she can barely fly herself back on the bridge before collapsing
And now she can barely look her mother and brother in the eye
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She can’t bear the thought of having to announce that Weiss is never coming back
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead she throws herself in the fight, she puts all her energy in doing something other than thinking about what she’s just lost and her grief.
I hope team RWBY+J’s trip doesn’t last for months in Remnant, because I am not sure in what state they will find Winter (and their friends) when they come back if it does.

The Summer Hound theory always seemed just a tad too much to be true, and RT managed to find the exact balance to make it fit perfectly in this point of the story.
Make it true, but with another SEW. Just as horrible, just as terrifying, and it means a big chance to see the Summer Hound later in the story, closer to the final act.
It also means that Ruby and Yang will undoubtedly at least wonder if that’s what happened to their mother and why no one ever found her body.
Now, every time they face a Hound, they’ll wonder “Is this Mom ?”
That’s even worse than if Summer had been the one inside this first Hound.

Maybe your mutuals, who might already be accepting of of ships like thorki, aren't outraged about sylki, but there's a lot of that going on in the wider fandom on Twitter and Tumblr. Apparently it's basically incest (no one tell them about thorki) and also homophobic and can cause a lot of harm to "communities and minorities". It's all fun and games until someone thinks it's morally acceptable to dimension jump and fuck their alternate self. I swear antis can't hear what they sound like lol. 1/2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't remember what I posted to prompt this ask, so I'm sorry if my reply feels a little disjointed! But re: Sylkie - I mean, I can't really speak for my mutuals but the general consensus on my dash has nothing to do with any ~problematic~ elements and everything to do with how cliche and unnecessary the ship is. I'm not really sure how the ship is basically incest?? I mean, I know where the show has landed (that she's a Loki) but interpretation-wise in the fandom, either she is a Loki, or she isn't. If she is, then it would be selfcest, not incest, and if she isn't, then she's basically just some woman he met and fell for. They didn't grow up together, they don't share any genes, they aren't siblings.
Also," the ship is homophobic and can cause harm to communities and minorities" - okay. Lmao. Calling Loki/Sylvie homophobic is, I'm assuming, stemming from outrage that a confirmed bi character would be interested in someone of the opposite sex - but, I mean, what do they think bisexual means? Calling Loki/Sylvie homophobic is actually biphobic af, tbh.
"It's all fun and games until someone thinks it's morally acceptable to dimension jump and fuck their alternate self" should be embroidered on something, bc that is one of the funniest and also "out of context, this would be really fucking weird" comments I've ever seen on this hellsite. Lmao. Bless.
But, yeah. I'm not super here for the ship, but it has nothing to do with any 'cesty reasons. Insofar as it getting in the way of Mobius/Loki - I mean, if you're gonna boycott and hate a ship on behalf of the oppressed, you gotta at least be consistent about it. Mobius/Loki could be (and is, by some) considered an abusive ship. Not only is Mobius verbally abusive to Loki, but Mobius is - and never stops being - in a position of power over Loki. They're not on an even foundation, and furthermore prisoners can't freely and willingly consent to sex/relationships with those holding them prisoner so, congrats, there's your problematic, abusive, r*pe apologist ship, my purity loving friends. Enjoy sitting with those rainbows and candy canes for awhile.
(^^ I don't necessarily see Mobius as abusive toward Loki, for reasons I can't articulate, and I don't feel it's a problematic ship (though the power dynamic actually is a factor), for the record. But this was a fun exercise in critical thinking.)
Anyway, so yeah, I'm not surprised that the purity culture antis are raging, I'm just glad to not be seeing it. Like I said, in my corner of the fandom, the issue with Sylkie is just the context of it - it being cliche, it coming out of nowhere, and it being a plot at all bc Loki didn't need a love interest and Marvel sucks, consistently, at writing good love stories.
I'll probably expand on this in a separate post, but those are basically my issues with the ship as well. I don't really have a problem with it, in theory. I don't disagree that the characters have chemistry, and that they've trauma bonded, in addition to sharing the variant bond that allows them to skip right over a lot of those 'let me slowly trust you and let my guard down as I reveal more and more of myself to you' steps; they get to skip those steps bc each variant already knows them. They know their own walls and protective layers, and they know what's at the core, just by virtue of being two versions of the same person. And in that sense I don't even really have a problem with how quickly it came about, I guess.
But it's like - yeah, this definitely needs its own post, lmao, but basically I feel like it could make sense in theory but doesn't follow in practice. But maybe it will over the next two episodes, who knows.
On that topic, though, I like your speculations. Somewhere between yesterday and today I gave up on my own speculations, though, bc the showrunners confirmed it was romantic and I don't feel like bothering anymore. It would have been cool to see some kind of magic or a plan or even something a little more surface-level than 'I love you bc of reasons,' but, well. Sometimes you order eggs off of the menu and you meant scrambled and you're expecting some fluffy, hot, cooked to near-perfection scrambled eggs and the waiter comes out with a runny sunny-side-up dish and when you're like the fuck is this? they just shrug and say, I don't know, you ordered eggs? And looking at it on the plate - technically not wrong but unappealing, bland, and not what you expected - just leaves you feeling like, oh. Okay. I can plainly see there are no hidden scrambled eggs here, so I guess I'll just eat these.
I'm not longer sure if the ship or the show or both are the wrong eggs, lmao. This shit is why I really enjoyed Loki's love metaphor, even though later interviews w/ the showrunners and Tom framed it as not really being great or profound. Which adds more credence to the possibility that I might just have shit taste in general, but well, there we are.
Thank you for the ask and sorry it took awhile to answer!

When He Sees Me
Pairing: Karmagisa + mentioned Maeiso
So this is basically a sequel of this where Karma meets florist!Nagisa
I was listening to ‘When He Sees Me’ from Waitress when I was writing this so yeah...
Maehara and Fuwa stood behind the counter, completely ignoring their work as they watched Nagisa pace about the shop, their heads moving backwards and forwards in unison as the blunette walked to and fro from one side of the large room to the other, wringing his hands and mumbling under his breath.
“You alright there, Nagisa?” Maehara asked, amber eyes still trained on his frantic-looking coworker slash friend, “you know it’s not that big of a deal, right?”
Nagisa paused, swivelling in place so that he could give the blond an incredulous look. He repeated, hands flying everywhere, “Not a big deal?! This is the biggest deal ever! Karma is coming in ten minutes to take me on a date - a date - and you’re saying that it’s not that big of a deal?!”
“Calm down, Nagisa,” Fuwa said, as if she didn’t transform into a squealing volcano when she found out that the redhead customer that Nagisa had hit it off with that fateful day had asked the petite pigtailed boy on a date to a local sushi chain and then proceeded to glomp said unsuspecting petite pigtailed boy into a hug as she rattled on about how she was ‘so proud of him’ and that ‘all I’m asking for is to be your maid of honour’, “it’s not like he hasn’t asked you out before. I mean the two of you went to see that Sonic Ninja movie the other day.”
“That’s completely different,” Nagisa exclaimed, “we went to a movie theatre - where you sit in the dark for the majority of the time - to watch a movie that we were too immersed in to actually have a conversation. And then we only spoke for about five minutes before I had to leave because mum called. Now we’ll be in a public area where all of his attention will be trained on me.”
“Is that a bad thing?” Maehara inquired, ignoring the quiet hiss of ‘vile madwoman’ that seemed to escape Fuwa’s mouth at the mention of Nagisa’s mother, “I mean speaking to each other and getting to know each other is one of the best parts of dating.”
“You’d know all about dating,” Fuwa smirked, “wouldn’t you, Womaniser?”
“Former Womaniser,” Maehara shot back in offense, “I’ll have you know that since dating Isogai, I have become a changed man.”
“I sure hope so,” Fuwa retorted, pointing a threatening finger at the blond’s face, “I swear to god Maehara, if you hurt that lovely Prince Charming of a barista I will hunt you down and end you in ways so bad that not even Ranpo Edogawa would be able to find your body or discover what happened to you.”
“Fuwa, if I ever do end up hurting Isogai, you have my permission to end me in any way you wish.”
“Guys!” Nagisa yelled, “can we get back to my crisis, please? I mean I’ve never been on a date before so I wouldn’t even know what to expect.”
“But isn’t that exciting?” Fuwa encouraged, her dark and threatening expression had completely been replaced by her usual starry-eyed adoration of anything that remotely resembled one of her beloved shojou mangas, “finding out everything you possibly could about the other, staring into each other’s eyes as you uncover the depths of their soul as you feel yourself falling more and more in love with each other.”
They both looked at her as she began swooning with daze.
Maehara raised an eyebrow, “where do you come up with this stuff?”
Fuwa shrugged, “it’s not my fault that you two happen to have meet-cutes that are literal shojou material. I mean come on: we’re all florists and Maehara’s boyfriend works in a coffee shop. At this point, I just hope that I don’t get dismissed as a mere side character.”
“That makes even less sense.”
“It’s just - just so scary,” Nagisa confessed, head hanging low as he began twiddling with his fingers, “I don’t really know that much about him apart from that he likes the same franchise as me. And that he’s super smart. It’s just so new that I have no idea what to do. I-I like to stick with the things I know, you know, try to minimise the areas where I can make mistakes. When things turn into some big guessing game and you lose control of the situation, things can turn ugly, trust me on that.”
“But it isn’t a complete guessing game,” Fuwa said, “you know that you like him and that he likes you.”
“What if he doesn’t?” Nagisa argued, “what if he only likes whatever version of me that he thought he saw that day we first met? What if tonight, during our date, he realises that he made a terrible mistake and that I’m really not whatever he thought I was that interested him? What if he’s disappointed when he knows what I’m really like?”
“Hey, hey, Nagisa,” Fuwa consoled. In the midst of the male’s anxiety-driven panic, she had walked towards him and now had the palms of her hands laying flat on his shoulders, their firm grips grounding him in an attempt to prevent him from proceeding further with his emotional tangent, “calm down. You’re getting worked up over nothing. Remember he asked you out
“But what if there’s something wrong with him?” Nagisa gasped as a new idea dawned on him, “I mean come on, have you met me? I’m not much of a catch and I’m certainly not that interesting. What if - what if he’s some sadistic psychopath that is only asking me out to lure me away into an abandoned alley and then kill me so that he can sell my organs in the black market or something? He could’ve planned this moment from the first day we saw each other. Oh my god, I knew I was being too reckless.”
“Holy hell, man,” Maehara rolled his eyes, “I can’t believe I’m saying this because you’re like the most chill person I know but you’re acting worse than Fuwa. You really need to reel back on those crime dramas - not everyone’s some crazy unsub from Criminal Minds. He’s a high schooler just like us. I really don’t think he’s planning on killing you.”
“You never know,” Nagisa shot back, “I mean with the TV shows and current media we’ve got nowadays anything’s possible. He could be some sort of heartless sadist. He - he.”
Nagisa cut himself off when his eyes caught onto the bunches of sunflowers that stood proudly next to the pink cala lilies by the window. Walking up to them, he carefully picked one up and gently traced the circumference of the disk florets, his mouth curling upwards at the memory of Karma entering the store the next day.
“I got your bouquet,” he had said, blushing furiously at the wide grin on the other’s face.
“Really?” Karma asked, “I didn’t get a text so I thought it might have been misplaced.”
“I don’t really text people I don’t know that well.”
“Hmm, I see. Well, what if I told you three things about myself? Would that be enough for us to have a textual relationship?”
Nagisa’s blush deepened, both at the redhead’s words and at the way his heart seemed to beat faster. The redhead placed his elbows on the counter and leaned forward, “what kind of three things?”
“Well, one, I want to study Economics in University so that I can become a bureaucrat. Two, I wasn’t kidding about the offer to the movies. Or with maths. Or about those flowers because Asano’s face was the funniest thing I saw all week. And three, I think that you really know your flowers.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“It’s just what I meant when I sent you that bouquet with the forget-me-nots,” Karma smiled, “there’s just something about you that’s pretty unforgettable.”
“He could be the most amazing person I’ve ever met,” Nagisa whispered, “which is weird because I’ve never felt like this about someone. Especially not someone I barely know.”
“But Nagisa,” Fuwa said, “you’re like really good at reading and analysing people so shouldn’t you trust your instincts. They’ve never been wrong before, right?”
“I don’t know. He’s just so amazing and smart and brilliant and he makes me feel things I can’t even explain even though we’ve only known each other for like a week and he’s like a straight A student and I’m just barely passing my tests. I’m not used to not understanding my feelings and I’m just so scared that I’ll drive him away. He’s funny and knows how to make me laugh and I feel like - I don’t know - like I don’t need to be scared. I barely know him but I want to know more and there may be a chance that he does too but what if when he knows more he doesn’t want to know more anymore. When you’re on a date you’re supposed to be open, but what if the only way I can be open is if I get broken and then he realises that I’m a complete mess and by that time it’s too late to put me back together,” he tucked the bright yellow flower back into the basket with the rest of its species, “I always look at things rationally, I try to get as much information as possible but right now everything seems irrational and I don’t know what to do.”
Fuwa walked up to him and pivoted him around so that she could stare right into his eyes, “you be yourself. Your usual kind, loving amazing self that me and Maehara and Sugino and everyone else knows and loves. You go there and you have fun and if Karma suddenly develops insanity and realises that he doesn’t like you - which will not happen by the way - then I will kick his redheaded butt, you hear me. I’ll even steal one of Sugino’s baseball bats so that I can beat him to death, if you want.”
“I’ll help,” Maehara piped up, “so will Isogai and Yada and Kurahashi and everyone else at The Busy Bean.”
“Wait,” Nagisa turned to him, “the coffee shop knows about this?!”
“Yep,” Maehara nodded with no hint of shame, “they were interested in their favourite customer’s love life and I was only too happy to provide. They ship you guys by the way but will kill Karma if he decides to hurt you.”
“You know what,” Nagisa shook his head, “I’m not even going to question it.”
“Just have fun,” Fuwa reiterated, brushing his shoulders, “you’ll be fine.”
“Looks like you calmed down on time,” Maehara quipped, “because I see a little silhouetto of a man.”
Nagisa and Fuwa turned their heads towards the giant transparent double doors to see Karma sauntering up to the store whilst texting on his phone. Readying himself, Nagisa took a few deep breaths before straightening himself and walking towards the front of the counter. With a look behind him so that he could see his coworkers’ thumbs up, he stared straight at the door as he waited for it to open. The bell rang as Karma walked in.
“Hey, Nagisa.”
“Uhh, hi, Karma.”
“So, you ready for dinner?”
“I sure am.”
And so the two of them left the store, side by side.
Fuwa turned to the boy beside her, wiping away a fake tear, “Ahh, they grow up so fast.”
“They sure do.”
“We should go follow them.”
“Fuwa, no.”
“Fuwa, yes.”
