The library is a great place for many things. You can go there to do whatever your heart desires. To quietly read a book, to imagine yourself within wonderful worlds, or to simply dig deeper into the meaning of this plain of reality and existence called 'life'. However, it was a great place for many other things. For secrets never to be spoken, for whispers never to be heard and for tears never to be seen.
This was a place for many more uses than anyone could imagine, so that is why when one uses it for a purpose, they are surprised to see another using it with a whole different one.
N was happily reading a book about the many different breeds of dogs. It was a book series that Tessa has placed in the library specially for him. Each month a new one appeared, each book focusing on three breeds of dogs and how they were created throughout the years, as such getting to also learn about even more dog breeds under the pretext of learning about the history of just one! How exciting was that?! Truly it was a wonderful experience for N. These four-pawed fluffy creatures were so appealing to him, no matter their size, shape, or form and purpose. He saw them all so unique, perhaps because that is what drones like him were as well. In the eyes of humans, he was just a drone, but in the eyes of a more attentive person he was N, a distinguished person of his own, with his purpose, his role, and his personality. His favorite dog breed was the golden retriever. Therefore he was more than enthusiastic when the newest book had this specific dog breed explained through its pages, but he did not yet get to read about it because he heard soft quiet aggitated sighs, as if someone was hiccuping.
He didn't expect that at all. Who was making these noises? What were the cause for them? He couldn't know until he'd go find out so that is what he did.
V was on her knees, cowering in the furthers corner of this library where everything was covered in dust.
She was softly crying in her palms, hiding from the world, hiding from everyone and everything that could possibly see her in such state.
"V?" A gentle soothening voice called out to her with great worry and concern filling it's soft tender calling, as she felt two pairs of eyes softly brushing her with their gaze, wondering what has brought such pain upon her wonderful heart, and begging for an answer.
V looked up to see N as she quickly turnedh er face around and cleaned her tears immediately. "What's wrong?" N asked with a sadden voice as it pained him greatly to see her in such a state, he couldn't possibly phantom as to why she was in it, and he wanted to help her more than anything. "I-I'm fine N." V said as she sniffed softly, cleaning her tears without taking her glasses into consideration, forgetting the tears that have dropped upon them there.
N gently approached her and slowly placed his hand upon her shoulder in a comforting manner. "If you don't want to talk about it I won't force you." N said with a sadden smile as V looked at him, feeling vulnerable and weak, unsure of what to think or do, but her heart overwhelmed with the sorrow's of her mind and she ended up softly leaning against his touch as N sat down next to her.
V couldn't help it. She felt lost, and even if he was there it felt like he wasn't, as if he couldn't possibly understand what was bothering her heart. "V..." N cooed softly as he gently placed one of his hands upon hers.
"I'm jealous." The girl said without thinking. "Jealous...? Of who?" The boy asked innocently as he couldn't unerstand her words. "The sky and everything within it, the stars and especially the sun. Every book I read they are adored and worshipped and- I don't know, it feels like people only love big things distant and mysterious... it makes me think that... nevermind, it's stupid." The girl said getting up as she shifted away from him, looking at the ground sadly with a heavy heart.
N gave her a symphatetic look and he looked to the side looking at the floor on which the beaming light of the sun laid upon, making it's way through the windows. N suddenly got up and gently picked her off the ground, placing her on her feet as his hands gently traced their soft caring touch on her's until they landed on her palms and parted from her as he continued to give her a charming warm smile as he began to step away backwards.
V looked at him puzled and confused, as a soft blush rested upon her visor, right above her cheeks, being taken off guard by his actions. "N-n?" V asked with pure innocence within her eyes as he continued to get away from her until he reached a window and pulled the covers from the left side over the window. The winodws were so huge that they needed dual curtains, so there was one for the left side of the window, and one for the right side.
"Come one! Help me put these in place!" He said with cheerfully as he took more distance from her, running from her playfully as he signed her to follow him with one hand, looking at her with a beaming smile before fully turning around from her and running down the hallways of the library. "N-N! Wait!" V called out confused as her eyes slightly widen as her blush deepened from his innocently charming smile as she went after him, but not without stopping by each window to close the right curtain, playing the little scheme that he has put into motion.
N was of course faster than her, and V struggled to keep up, soon enough N was lost within the library, as V could only see him via the windows, looking at their curtains, seeing when one closed, as the high bookshelves covered her entire view of where he was and where he could be, as his footsteps echoed into the room. V was startled but she tried to keep up as much as possible.
When all finished V found herself looking left and right trying to see where N was, when she heard footsteps and ran after them. "N!!! Wait up!"
She called out to him, following the noise of his footsteps but before she knew it she was in the middle of the library, where it was pitch black dark and of course she lost track of the clanking sounds his shoes made against the floor. V looked around fearfully and concerned, unsure of what to do.
"Look around." N's voice called out from somewhere behind a bookshelf and V was ready to take a step closer but when she was about to his voice rang again. "Don't move! Stay there!" N said softly as his voice shifted to behind another shelf. How was he doing this? She had no clue, but his instructions were confusing and derutating. What was all of this for?
"Look around you. What do you see?" N asked as his voice cooed out from different spots of the library. His voice was soft and gentle and V looked towards the spot from wherever his voice came from but never moving.
"Darkness." She replied unsure of what sort of game this was. "Look closer." *N spoke out from his current hiding spot as he was constantly changing it, his footsteps being fainly heard from a distance.
V didn't know what to look at as everything was dark, so, she ended up looking at her hands, and she had the surprise that the closer she brought them to her face, the better she could see them, as her visor's light gently shined upon them.
"The stars and the sun are big and bright, but not even they can light up this tiny room. You shine brighter than all of them." N said in a soft gentle tone as he came up from behind V and rested his palms upon hers, as she softly brought them to her chest over her heart, as her head shot up and her eyes widen from surprise, a blush covering her face as she could feel her heartbeat pounding against her chest as while he softly pressed his chest against her back and lovingly held her in his arms.
"Uhm- What...were you reading before all of this?" V asked awkwardly as she tried to break the deafening silence as her heart could no longer take it.
It was too much for her pure innocent soul. N simply smiled and replied joyfully. "I was reading about dogs! I just got to my favourite dog breed! I could read the chapter to you one day!"
*N kept his promise, and he read her the chapter...* "Golden retrivers also have gentle mouths! Awwwwwwwwh! That's why they are so good with kids!"
In this dark stormy night, she was the brightest light within the library, and like the sun that stood still and stiff, he orbited around her, reading to her every single time of the day when he got a break from his duties.
She was his brightest light, even if she couldn't see it herself, even if she was now just as distant as the stars upon the sky was, as she couldn't be reached in the state that she was. Even so, she could hear it all, and when he wasn't around it was like she could also hear his words the day before she ended up like this.

is this actually actual confirmation that “Mirandia” is just an alias of Celebrien…? Not only does mirandia simply translate as “smith”, but the way he compares her likeness to Galadriel, the fact that she absolutley looks like Celeborn & Galadriel´s daughter, and the way she blushess at this compliment/comparisment… (it also makes this whole interaction even more creepy on his part)

accidentally fellasleep again bcuz i dont thjnk the. constant 3 hrs of sleep i keep getting thrlughout the week is truly helping me eprchance… but goddd. i have woken up eith a sort of slight feeling of doom . just a little but i notice it enough to care even in the slightest and jt always appears wheneher ajax is around (god forbid i am happiest with him! distracts me from my real problems and when he is gone i am forced to acknowledge my evil side) but goodness. chat. i do i truly love him sososo much with every inch of me.,,, more than i love myself and anything else in the world . perhappps i love him more than ive loved anythinf at all???? im trying tl think ab earljer today w him again to attempt to lift my spirits i mean it is like. five am. goodness i miss him. i feel so odd and clingy sometimes ., perchance that i talk too much becahse god forbid i ever allow myself to do anything without overthinking it after idk. im juustt often filled with so much joy with him and perhaps i am not doing the best in general and i keep pushing it to the side .,,,??
i just am so truly happy with him i never want to acknowledge it. i will fight it for as long as possiblr but goodness i keep feeling it over and over. that overwhelming feeling of just emptiness. perhaps grief and j feel distraught for no reason in particular. dare i mention i am still truly doomed and feel that way , he judt makes everything feel a little easier?? thay perhaps i do have something to look forward to even though everything sucks rn. but honestly you think ab it nothing is truly going on that should be affecting me so badly its just,, the usual,,??? i have no idea perhaps.
dare i discuss more things on my mjnd tonight since its late and im thinking already. we’ll go positive for now perhaps iii. i keep realizing over and over how fucked and doomed me and jd were even from tje start and how i kept having to just deal with things and be okay eith things even prior to us dating?? i mean my rule was alwasy like. love unconditionally. she is your partner. that sort of thing. eith ajax im realizing i dont have to dp that??? hes just there. everything feels so simple and i feel sort of selfish. he puts up w so much and talks ab so much stuff so easily in ehich i know jd wouldve freaked out. lost her mind and started something about. hes just so okay and understanding ab everything i dont believe jt??? i leep trying to be like,,, well hes literally meeee… to try and console myself into the belief but god i cant. bcuz wdym ur okay w rhat. wdym we can talk ab this. wdym you’re COMMUNICATING with me??? wdym i dont have to tweak and you feel bad when i do????? you ask me if im okay and you care???? god forbid i get back the love i give others and for the first time with the person i trulytrulyTRULY am so in love with like. goodness. he is the only light i see every single day. perhaps preventing me from getting wprse and evil bcuz i know myself. i see myself setting myself ul slightly but i digress. im okay. ots just like. hes so unerstanding i dont get it??? but then agajn i am too and hes literally me??? like ige never had a problem w that sort of thing i just knew jd did which strayed me away from so mych to keep her okay but lord do i feel like maybe i could just be honest w him and be okay an communicate. i jist still feel selfish regardless. god forbid i trust him because i NEED TOOOO i will not let my insecurity consume me and get the best of me. my doubts. bcuz i want tl truly believe he is as good and perfect as he is currently??? please ajax do not lie to me. i am begging you. i dont think id be able to handle it happening again and lrt alone if we fall down the same doomed pipeline and its my fault again i dont think id ever be able to recover. maybe perchance i am the one preventing everything. i lie to a degree but im also honest in a way i am not normally. im just trying truly to be honest ab issues and problems w him but god do i feel ph so selfish cuz it is SOOOO early.
speaking of early. i need freaky kusundei to CALM THE FUCK DOWN? ph goddd because no i do truly likr jt chat. perhaps i loveLOVELPVEEEE freaky ajax but then i recall i am truly all talk. intimacy to a REAL degree is ph so horrifying to me thats why i mentjon the… let me at least be comfortable enough to kiss you and hold you freely first - sort of thing. Alright Friend- Grace is in a poly relation ship with Tech, Hunter, and Crosshair, (no cloneset). Its a soutlmate Au with Crosshair and Hunter being her soulmates, and Tech not having one.
now that back story is out of the way- onwards to questions
32: Your character is in love, do they confess? if not how long do they wait?
When Grace falls in love, she embraces it. She unerstands that as a Jedi her first role will be two the galaxy even with her soulmates.
With Hunter, Hunter is easy to tell him she loves him. Hes' defentily a worlds of affermation kind of man, besides acts of service. So she confesses to him, that she loves him, she wants thier soulmate bond and everything that comes with it. She waited a while to confess though, she is his suppior and she knows his brothers saftey is his top priorty. But Hunter is a romantic at heart and wanted the bond too. There realtship came about the easiest, as they can't exactly hide from each others senses.
With Tech- she fell in love with him by accedient. She spent a lot of time being comferted by him when Crosshair was being crosshair. He was one of the first people to embrace her presence on the ship as well. She waited longer than Hunter to confess, helping him and spending time with him as her way of telling him till she could find the words to help him understand her feelings. Tech of course had noticed her more affectinte touches and small gifts and conversations and actually broached the subject with her.
Crosshair took the longest and hardest to navigate. He's the pull pig tails type and she wasn't putting up with his meaner tendeinces. SHe thought it best to ignore him when he got to pissy, which made him more pissy and round and round they went. But Crosshairs love language is acts of service, words are cheap to him. So when Grace realized she was in love with his idiot- Wrecker helped her put it together- she didn't tell him right away, insteady she started doing things for him, or meiditing in his presence. She sought him out in high grounds, just enjoying company. It raised his hackles at first but they eventually get there.
35. What moment did they realise that they were in love?
Hunter: It was right after combat, she had put away her lightsaber and looked up to see Hunter walking through the smoke, flipping his knife around his fingers and back into his sheth and she felt blindsided "Holy shit I'm in love with this man." Hunter realized it later when they were relaxing and Grace showing Wrecker moving meditation, letting the bigger man learn the breathing and slow movment techinies she used to ground herself. She spoke to his brothers like they were emotional intellegent beings and it hit him like a brick to the face that he was in love with their Jedi.
Tech: I happened in the middle of one of his lecutres/info dumps. He's wavinghis hands and talking, and pushing on his goggles with his fore finger and she just smiles and thinkgs "I love this man." It shocks her less than Hunters does and she kind of blinks a bit to the point Tech pauses and asks her if she is even listening. Tech became aware of his love much more subtle and anazlied the fuck out of it. It oocurd to him when he started occomidating space for the jedi. Clearing out space for her, or picking up tea she liked on a random planet or just spotting something she might find intresting and snapping a holopic of it to show her later. He took a moment to analize it, then embrace and cotinued on. These were his new facts, he would adapt accordingly. It terrfied him really and he had 30 tabs on his data pad open on "How to be in Love"
Crosshair: Crosshair was little things, once he stopped being a brat about the whole soulmate thing...less of a brat. At first he hurt a lot with his rejection/not rejecting and mean nick names like "Nattie" and what not. words designed to hurt...but she can feel him in the force, he projects so hard in the force. So she starts reading it instred of his words, and reacts accordingly. She realizes she loves him when she's temporarly reasiged to another battalin and he gets pissy and calls her "Our medic."
It accord to Crosshair when she started spedning time with him, unintrusive tim. He had pushed her away, what did he need a nat-born jedi soulamate for anyway but hadn't out rejected the bond and then she ignored him and now she was spedning time with him. Then she wanted to leave. They got into an agrument where he accused her of not "needing him when she had the other two." She growled, pushed him up against a tree and kissed him for all she had. "You never understood Crosshair, a Jedi's love is not about need. We love freely, its our way. I love you and will love you always even if you don't love me. But I won't chase someone who doesn't want to be chased." She had walked away before he could responde and he stood there, shocked and angry and confused.
He didn't know how to tell her back so he just started standing at her back, shooting dark looks at people who got to close and only letting his brothers near "Their medic." She seemed to get it without words and one day just simply took his hand while they walked back to the ship. Not saying anything, just holding his hand in front of the others like it was an everyday things and he felt something right click into place.
45. Are they good at comforting one another? Does someone hide their feelings usually?
Being a jedi, they can't hide thier feeling from her very well.
Hunter after a while doesn't try and neither does she. The tried hiding behind professionalism and "jedi maturity" but it both made them misarbile and confused because they could sense the others true feeilings. When Hunter is upset, she'll got to him, offer to sit and let him meditate with her. Walk him through breathing and focusing on grounding himself. She teaches him moving meditation- basically yoga- where you focus on just breathing and moving from one form to the next. When shes hurt or upset, Hunters go to response is to just cuddle it away. Wrap thier smaller jedi up in his embrace in a bunk against the wall with him between her and the world.
Tech: Tech never knows what to do or the right thing to say when Grace is upset. He doesn't always notice right away either. Being a Jedi when ever she is upset, often times she either meditates or seeks comfort in Hunter who is more physically adpated to offer such a thing. Tech, when he does notice, offers it with distractions or simply to sit and just be. When Tech is overwhelmed or upset, Grace will either give him space to work through the emotions on his own as he perfers to do, or will offer him a distracting by simply asking him questions and letting him info dump at her. She noticed he fidgets a lot and will start handing him things to tinker or mess with or fidget with while he does this till he calms down and works thorugh wahtever it was that was bothering him. Then she'll bring it up and talk about it.
Crosshair will over comfort in the form of violence if Grace is upset enough to display it. Grace's upsets have two sides, angry loudly upset or quiet. If its quiet, he sends her off to Hunter or just sits with her while she meditates and reaslises her emotions into the force till shes done with it. If shes angry, he goads her into a fight, throw a punch, trip her up, poke at her buttons untill she snaps. She always yells that he's not a punching bag, and he should't let her treat him like one but he scoffs and says he's not, hes just holding up one so she can realse that angry in a healthy or other such bullshit Jedi nonsense. When crosshair is upset, he hisses and seeths and is mean. Grace can feel him coming a mile away and either braces herself for him to either seek out sex or a fight. If she knows one might solve what ever is bothering him, she may or may not go willing- depending. She pefers fighting over the sex becuse she dosn't enjoy hate sex. But if hes upset and looking for soft touches and comfort he deson't know how to ask for, she coax him into letting her take care of him.
Oof that got long my friend but its good for me to think about these things. Thank you for the ask and I hipe you'd like the glimps into thier messy love life.

(if you think abt it obitos reason for starting the 4th war was completely fucking stupid. because the "love of his life" died when she threw herself onto kakashis attack and obito didnt take the time to find out more all he saw was that kakashi was the one to put the bullet in her head (or chidori through her chest). and he goes off from there deciding that kakashi is the one to blame and hes defined as redeemed because he helped them at the last minute because rin told him to and then (1/2))

He became evil and vengeful and angry and he took it out on the world. Even knowing Rin did that on purpose and Kakashi wasn't at fault for her death at all he continued to blame Kakashi. He followed him, fucked with his missions, messed with him in general, and then had the balls to call Kakashi trash to his face while Kakashi was trying to deal with the fact that the man he had been living his life for was alive all along.
And then Obtio changes back to the good side and helps them fix the mess he helped to create and suddenly all is good? Like...Kakashi straight up juat forgave him even though Obito's actions led to countless deaths
Naruto forgave him even though his actions led to Gaara's death and that had upset and hurt Naruto SO MUCH. Like his care and love for Gaara convinced the old lady to save Gaara's life but now faced with the man who helped make that death happen, Naruto just...forgives him?
If obito had lived he would have faced zero reprecautions (sauske didn't have to deal with any so why would obito) and when he died he died a hero. Everyone forgot the horrid things he had done and treated him like a hero

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: I guess the closer I can get to is Dumbledore, because even though I love his character, I think he’s an awful person, for one very specific reason: no matter the consequences, no matter why you think you should do nothing, you never leave a child live with an abusive family if there’s something you can do about it. Daumbledore could have gotten Harry out of the Dursley’s care when he was a kid, no matter the protection spell, he should have nevet let Harry leave with them. It’s something I didn’t realize when I was a kid, but as an adult, it’s the one thing I can’t forgive him.

favorite moment: (I changed the ask a bit to make it fit) The whole reveal of the many plot twists at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban, when they’re in the Shrieking Shack and they learned about literally EVERYTHING in like 20 pages, I love it!!!! Also, Hinny first kiss after the Quiditch match.
saddest death: it’s a tie between Fred and Sirius, both deaths crushed me completely so I can’t chose but they were awful.

Rocky path of a heroine in a galaxy far far away
Do you have those moments when you have some sort of sensation that you can’t really put your finger on and it keeps nagging at you with its unconceptuability until one day you discover a word that expresses exactly what you’ve been feeling? Like finally finding out the wonder of the word Weltschmerz which suddenly makes your world so much more understandable?
Well, today I had this experience regarding the sequel trilogy when I read this I won’t exactly say great but being definitely a good introduction to the heroine’s journey article and in it saw the word aridity. Oh, yes, isn’t that the word which suits best what it feels like to imagine epix consisting of Rey the maiden of light vanquishing evil Renperor with some straightforward bigger scale pewpewpew in the background. Arid. Infertile. Unproductive. Bringing nothing new into the overall saga. Actually sounding as if it was here only to let the creators shake off the Skywalkers once and for all. Waste of a good heroine.

And aridity is exactly the word used in the article to descibe what for so many is the only obvious way for epix to go. In it are presented following stages of a heroine’s journey, as based on Maureen Murdock’s Woman’s Quest for Wholeness (they are all better descibed in the article, here I give only the desciptions I find most important to the argument):
HEROINE SEPARATES FROM THE FEMININE
IDENTIFICATION WITH THE MASCULINE AND GATHERING OF ALLIES 
ROAD OR TRIALS AND MEETING OGRES AND DRAGONS
EXPERIENCING THE BOON OF SUCCESS by overcoming the obstacles.  This would typically be where the hero’s or “shero’s” (a female protagonist on a hero’s journey) tale ends
HEROINE AWAKENS TO FEELINGS OF SPIRITUAL ARIDITY / DEATH because the new way of life is too limited.  Success in this new way of life is either temporary, illusory, shallow, or requires a betrayal of self over time 
INITIATION AND DESCENT TO THE GODDESS.  The heroine faces a crisis of some sort in which the new way is insufficient and falls into despair.  All of her “masculine” strategies have failed her
HEROINE URGENTLY YEARNS TO RECONNECT WITH THE FEMININE
HEROINE HEALS THE MOTHER/ DAUGHTER SPLIT  
HEROINE HEALS THE WOUNDED MASCULINE WITHIN
HEROINE INTEGRATES THE MASCULINE AND FEMININE to face the world or future with a new understanding of herself and the world/life. Heroine sees through binaries and can interact with a complex world that includes her but is larger than her personal  lifetime or geographical/cultural milie
So, this peaked my interest, considering how only yesterday I was venting out about how I feel there’s something wrong about this trilogy’s doubtlessness, how it doesn’t fit in with the overall symphony. But the prequels were a tragedy, plain and simple, whereas the originals were a hero’s journey. I won’t put here all of Campbell’s hero’s journey stages but basically the hero has more doubts at the beginning (clue in Luke’s I’ll try and You ask the impossibe), then has an apex (facing Palpatine and leading to Anakin’s salvation), followed by overconfidence, “refusal to give up his divinity” (basically creeping up on your nephew at night, reading his mind and igniting a lightsaber because you’re Luke Skywalker) and only recovering peace and purpose when that has been defeated (with an outside help, no less). Tu juxtapose, a heroine has a moment of overconfidence coinciding with what would have been an apex in a hero’s journey, followed by realisation of aridity of her hitherto path and a crisis, leading to healing and reintegration.
What I think is the general belief of the audience - definitely ant*s, but I think also the vast majority who aren’t really against “anything” but just can’t see how “that” could be and a good deal of reylos who read Rey as patiently waiting for her prince to disenchant himself - but more importantly, of Rey herself, is that she has reached her apex, her inner journey is finished, she is now the goddess she was meant to be, saviour of the Resistance and the last Jedi.
And that would be true. If hers was a (s)hero’s journey.
Having the Beast on a leash
There are many great edits paralleling Ben at the end of TLJ with Beast after letting Belle leave the castle, which appears to be point 4 of heroine’s journey. While the separation is important here, the above notion that this stage parallels hero’s apex had me reconsider what is the must, the essence of what happens here. It may sound weird, but I think this is the point where the Beauty “defeats” the Beast, the moment where the power imbalance shifts, where he does what she asks - or is on his knees before her. I think this “defeating” element is the best visible in one of the simplest renditions of BatB, legend of st. Martha and dragon Tarasque that I have a personal sentiment for because I used to resent my first name until I saw a picture of my namesake with a freaking dragon on a leash. There it is heavily underlined that she manages to tame, place in her - or, at least, God’s through her, it is a christian legend - power the beast most valiant heroes couldn’t defeat.
Now, Rey has in fact been in position of power over Kylo Ben twice already in the story - first on Star Killer Base and the second time when she woke up first in the Throne Room - and on both occasions didn’t use that power to finish him. Which is exactly what heroes do in this story but I’ll elaborate on that below. But what is worth noting is that the resident Beast has - or at least hopefully has - a subjective power shift when on his knees on Crait. Whatever he splurted out minutes ago, he now realises he won’t be able to do. Even if he doesn’t understand, he remotely feels his disempowerment.

Journeys  and trope subvertion or why serious reylo duel is actually possible
The fact that the crisis in the heroine’s journey comes after her heroic apex is conceptual expression of the shivers I get whenever I hear Kylo Ben say when the time comes, Rey’ll be the one to turn. Now, it’s tempting to assume he was overconfident and Rey overcame every obstacle but that’s turning a blind eye to the fact that heroine’s crisis is yet to come. As stated, Rey herself thinks she overcame every obstacle but how naive this assessment of facts was is probably best expressed in the smut hut, when she - beautiful as it was - tells Ben it’s not too late for him to turn. Just like Han, she underestimates years of manipulation he’s been through. She’s just been through what should be a sort of nadir for her so if she can go on, he’ll have no problem returning to the light, right? Note, this is something she just believes in, she says that before the force vision.
But again, did she have a nadir? Did she have a moment which challenged all of her previous beliefs the way Luke fidning out Vader is his father did? It’s extremely important Luke finds out in ESB something new whereas Rey is faced with a truth she has been denying. We don’t know how Luke dealt with his vision in the tree on Dagobah, but we know how he reacted to its realisation in action.

Of course, regardless of how hysterical this was, he still did the right thing and epically refused. But he’s shown to accept the fact that Vader is his father and it affects all of his future actions leading to his heroic climax I only later realised how this sounds but I won’t change it.
So, the cave scene. There are quite a few interpretations of what exactly this scene meant. Some intrerpret it as Rey finding out the dark side will give her no answers - which makes little sense as an element of her journey as juxtaposed with Luke on Dagobah. If, however, the cave did give her some answers, either telling her to stop giving f*cks about her parents, making a symbolical expression of their nobodiness or hinting at her future - again, she denies them. When Kylo Ben has her finally face the truth, she seems to take it pretty well - which is good but isn’t good in a heroine’s journey. A journey isn’t from point A to point A, there has to be a percepetion change, the new unerstanding of world/life/self. I bring back the heroine faces a crisis of some sort in which the new (post-apex) way is insufficient and falls into despair.  All of her “masculine” strategies have failed her.
Now, I would prefer to detach Rey’s journey from masculine-feminine categories, mainly because it frustrates me that a woman’s journey should be considered in terms of relative gender ideas rather than more absolute ones. Call it a yin and yang and it definitely has a lot to do with light and dark side. Now, as far Rey’s separation from whatever is concerned, I’m a bit uncertain what to think. Can it be said that TFA and TLJ are about Rey separating herself from her scavenger personality and embracing the jedi knight/resistance saviour one? Which would mean that she’ll later have to reembrace while reinterpreting her tendency to “salvage broken renperors things”? Still, this interpretation is hardly expressed in the movies. Overall, it does make sense, as in TLJ her outward motivation is that of the newly taken title of resident force sensitive on a quest to get Luke Skywalker to save the galaxy the way Reistance knows it’s to be saved. 
Heroines tend to be more dissonant than heroes, though I’d argue it’s mainly due to the fact that their stories tend to be more introspective, character driven, allowing more nuance in their attitudes than the latter, more action oriented (and when I say tend to, I mean tend to, not that it’s a rule). It’s not an inherent trope in heroine’s journey or female literature, though it is bound to the fact that a hero will have his doubts expressed and refuted in the earlier parts of his story. A heroine can feel one way but to the outer world and more importanty, her own consciousness, she’ll frame her motivations in a way more acceptable in the 2-4 stages of her path. So, Christine Daae isn’t fascinated by the mysterious man with a disturbingly sexy voice, she’s taking music lessons. Belle is in Beast’s castle so that her father can be free. Rey only hopes that Ben can be turned because that’s how Luke saved Darth Vader and the galaxy (notice - she aspires to acting like the resident hero, and Luke in the novel and comic repeatedly expresses his fear of how much Rey - a heroine - wants to be him - a hero not that he’s thinking in those latter terms, they’re just deeper implications of structures). Needless to say, Christine wouldn’t be enthusiastic about music lessons with anyone else, Belle starts enjoying her “captivity” without noticing when and Rey has very personal interests in Ben’s brightly illuminated pecs future.

The crucial mistake that’s so easy to commit while analysing a heroine’s journey is to assume she has all figured out by the stage 4. Again, she would have - if she was a hero. A hero let go from his captor’s castle has triumphed, he has nothing to look back to. A heroine will realise - though doesn’t really realise in the moment she’s leaving, usually due to the fact that she has more urgent matters like a sick father or trapped resistance to attend to - that she’s left her heart there. Matters become even more complicated if she appears to have overcome her ultimate trial before leaving that castle. But again - was that an ultimate trial for her? Was it an actual dilemma in which both choices are equally bad or equally good? No, it was a choice between selfishness and altruism, which is a no brainer for a selfless person, regardless of innocent manipulation used. This can suffice as an auspicious switch for a hitherto morally inferior character, but not the morally superior journeying hero/ine. For the latter, real challenge is a choice between altruism and altruism, marry me and then I’ll save your friends, kill your father and become the hero fanbase half thinks Luke is, slay one person to save thousands. Again, Rey has already faced this last dilemma twice - but never time with immediate pressure of highest stakes. But in the end, it appears the only thing that was challenged in TLJ, prior to the apex of her hero’s path, was her hope for Kylo Ben. Her apparent nadir followed by a climb up is her facing the results of her naive hope in the Throne Room and learning to never do that again, overcoming the flaw of overgenerosity.
Yet if a heroine is to progress, she has to stop being a hero. And Rey's symbolic nadir was the cave, only the actual crisis and climb are yet to come. And Rey hasn't been overgenerous towards Ben, her going to him wasn't out of selfless generosity alone.
So, the three matters to adress while thinking about Rey’s journey in epix are
will her crisis come?
how stubborn will she be about her “new path”?
will heroine’s journey be subverted?
As far as point 1 is concerned - well, if they are doing a heroine’s journey then yes, she’ll have some crisis of her beliefs. Lack thereof is basically the “aridness” viewers feel thinking of lack of some tension within the resistance. The question is, how deep will it be. It could simply be a sort of Amidalaesque “what if the republic has become the very evil we promised to fight?”. The problem is, Rey is quite capable of denial. She’s patient, she can clench her teeth and continue doing what’s right, which is a great quality, most of the time. But when a crisis does come, it will be one of lifelong proportions. The point is, she had no time to properly face her axis mundi having been overthrown and I’m not really sure she wants to face it. And in the end, I don’t think the audience wants her to face it. And yet face it she must for real progress to come.

How does a reylo duel fit into this whole rambling? Well, basically it’s the result of wondering how strong a factor will it take for Rey’s crisis of beliefs to come. Would a person who waited for 15 years for people she knew to have sold her avidly oppose the galactic heroes apparent because of their basic aridity? Or would it take a deeper denial of self over time? Again, I’m considering an actual dilemma situation, right choice vs. right choice, high stakes and immediate action. So... yeah. If right circumstances appear at the right point in Rey’s journey a serious reylo duel, at least on Rey’s part, is a very serious possibility.
Now, it should be argued that dragon slaying is a hero’s job and Rey’s a heroine. But there are two “buts”: first of all, if the duel should happen before the crisis, trigger it actually, then Rey would still be in her “hero stage”. Secondly, and that’s probably the most interesting part, the path has to be subverted. Don’t forget, this IS what happened with Luke, the resident journeying hero of originals. As so many viewers refuse to understand but has been true since the 80s, Luke’s heroic climax lies in throwing  away the lightsaber, in refusing to slay the dragon or even dragon’s evil wizard overlord, against common sense, mentors’ advice and contrary to what he’s been doing for two episodes, one might add. If the hero’s journey is made peaceful, it appears symmetrical for the heroine’s to become aggressive, or at least have an aggressive moment. Because obviously, Luke’s peaceful action still led to hero’s finale where the dragon killed the overlord and then himself burned to release the hero’s boon princess daddy. In the same manner, heroine’s eventual healing and integrating could come despite - or even because of - an aggressive action.
What can poor Beast do ‘xcept to sing for rock’n’roll band?
There’s yet another point to be considered while discussing a heroine’s journey in the form of BatB theme - the Beast’s seperate progress. Now, the question of what will renperor be like is one of the most frequent in the fandom and I dare say JJ will manage to surprise most of us anyway. Personally, I sorta stan a not so bad renperor but  that’s more of Henry Fonda in 12 angry men attitude: everyone is sure he’s guilty but I’m not so I’ll say he’s not guilty and wait to be persuaded.

However, there is an argument to be made against a really evil renperor based on BatB theme and heroine’s journey - the fact that her post-hero’s apex progress has to involve rejection of her chosen path’s aridity. On a psychological level it takes more complex forms, but in a space opera it’s likelier to be outward. I’m not exactly saying that it’s even most remotely probable that Rey would defect to FO though if that happens I will open a fortune telling business but her eventual life with Ben cannot be as or even more arid than as... ugh... next republic’s (talk about infertility?) jedi hero, vide in prison or exile. Nope, there’s healing and reintegration for her in store, not keeping her two paths separated.
I guess we all agree that if there’s happily ever after but for reylo, it will be because renperor will screw up, not because resistance will be mean. The most basic story would have Ben be depressed and locked up in his tower, but the simultaneously good and bad news is, it’s not an unalterable must. The Beast can f*ck up the story - to his own and Beauty’s detriment and there’s little the latter can do about it. Vide: Phantom of the Opera, focusing on the book. I’m not bringing this up to conjure any what ifs or legitimize and delegitimize ships, but to analyse a BatB version written to end in tragedy. The point is, Erik does in no way alter his behaviour because of Christine after the first time he lets her go. He continues to strangle opera employees and dropping chandeliers when they’re apart - I’m absolutely sure evil renperor would be force dropping chandeliers - and in the end becomes a completely arid option for Christine, even if she does feel compassion for him and has her sexual awakening because of him. It makes an unsatisfying story and leaves Christine an unfulfilled heroine, yet that’s because her “hero” path was still less arid than the continuation of heroine’s, and only on a meta level because of fin de siecle morals.

Now, the good news is that the above negative example shows passivity isn’t Beast’s obligatory narrative choice, where there’s down, there’s up. I’m far from some sort of dream galaxy saviour visions, but tbh I haven’t been bi*ching for three paragraphs about narrative logic saying epix is to bring moral challenges to pronounce that no morals will be challenged.
Morality that isn't challenged isn't a living messy inner process, only an externalized frozen set of rules called ethics - which can be auxillary in solving uncertain difficult moral dilemmas, but cannot substitute morality. Some change in the Star Wars morals is due and considering the frozen ethics is good rebels-evil empires-one redeemable character, some element has to go, qualitatively change or be added, considering the frozen ethics prequels gave originals was only good republic-evil empire.
So, end of the day, what is to be pronounced that will happen in epix? As always, it’s all speculation that’s a fun way to employ creative powers. TBH, I really think that JJ will surprise almost everyone.

I’m always amazed at how you have so many ‘extras’ in your pictures. How do you have the patience to create or even put them all there?!
that scene took me about 4 days to put together, and the airport about a month to decorate. I enjoyed doing the airport to start with but at the end I was going a bit nuts! I enjoy setting up scenes though. I find it very relaxing.

Being from Australia, I’ve endured several such trips (one was 30 hours +) bc we are so far away from the rest of civilization and yes, it is hell. You can hardly walk when you finally get off the plane!

Workflow & Creative Camera Techniques: Introduction to Visual Exercuse 2 & Visual Exercise 1 Due - Week 3 (01/10/20)
This week we had our introduction to Visual Exercise 2, in which we we will have to do 2 shots of a character performing an action. One of the shots will be handheld and the other will be filmed on a tripod. The purpose of this will be to understand the pros and cons of using both tripods and handheld equipment.
This week I watched Modern Family, which looks at the lives of the people in a ‘modern family’ of today. Something I find very interesting in this series are the establishing shots that are created to establish the setting in which the family members live in. This shots are used to tell the viewer where they are and in which person’s house they are specifically, in this series this includes just an outside shot of the house, which is often the exact same shot as previously used. What I find interesting is that the act of reusing these shots doesn’t take away from the quality of the episodes or programme itself, but is merely used as a device to create unerstanding for the viewer.
Below are both the parts of my Visual Exercise 1 Submission.
Visual Exercise 1 Part 1: Film Analysis of the Death of Maximus Scene from Gladiator by Peer Theilen
This analysis will look at the scene ‘The Death of Maximus’ from Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott (2000). Gladiator follows Roman general Maximus’ journey as he is betrayed into slavery by the emperor’s son Commodus. As a gladiator he fights his way to Rome where he avenges his killed family, killing Commodus and saving Rome from tyranny. In this scene Maximus has killed his nemesis and delivers the last wishes of the true emperor before he dies. The focus of the scene is on Maximus as he leaves the world to go to the afterlife. Lucilla Commodus’ sister speaks to Maximus as he dies telling him to go to his family. After his death everyone else who is left with his victory honours him as their hero. The scene’s cinematography encapsules Maximus’ point of view and shows him entering the afterlife. The costume and setting establish time and place, showing the splendour of the wealthy and the struggle of the poor in the times of ancient Rome. The lighting and editing create the atmosphere in the scene, clearly making Maximus the hero and showing the difference between the world that he leaves and the one that he enters. The soundtrack further enhances the ethereal and empowered atmosphere in the scene and highlights a connection between the two worlds. Finally, it is a thought-provoking piece that creates a sense of connection with the protagonist and addresses the injustice that he faces.
 Through close up shots, point of view shots and camera movement the cinematography tells the story of how Maximus dies showing him leaving one world and entering another. The cuts between both worlds show the transition of Maximus soul from one space to another, blurring the line of realities, demonstrating Maximus is journey to his family. The scene begins and ends with arial and wide shots which establish the setting of the colosseum and the character relations to their setting, specifically Maximus as the hero. Interestingly the angles from above indicate that those in the ring are inferior which typically fits into the culture of colosseums but as the gladiator depicted is a hero it appears to turn this view on its head, questioning the morality of this culture. In the opening shot the camera captures a movement across an entirely silent audience looking in anticipation creating a focal point that is out of the shot. The shot shifts to an arial shot in which a circle of armed soldiers surround 2 people highlighting them as the centre of attention, and what the audience was looking at. A series of medium shots and close ups encapsule Maximus and the people who he talks to, this highlights the importance of his message and aligns the viewers perspective with that of the main character, making it possible to imagine how he feels as he is dying. The entire scene interludes with tracking point of view shots, the movement of which guide the viewer towards the place where Maximus is going, to his family in the afterlife. This is a recurring shot throughout the film in the form of flashbacks, but this time the colour scheme is different, suggesting he is entering a different realm and accurately conveys his point of view to the viewer as he is the only one who can see that other world. Soon he falls to the ground and a series of close ups show him dying talking to princess Lucilla, these shots demonstrate the intimacy between them as he dies. Once he dies the perspective shifts onto Lucilla who appears to now be in charge. Hereafter the shots move further and further away from the characters, this demonstrates the impact Maximus made on those around him.
   Both the costume and the setting establish the time and place. Maximus’ costume is characteristic of a Roman gladiator giving him the social status of someone who is owned but worth more than a common slave but less than someone of the upper or middle class. His hair is sweaty, and his body is blood-soaked and grimy showing his fight to survive without having time to stay clean. Lucilla’s costume conveys her wealth and her beauty, she wears golden drapes and a dress of different patterns and textures and large jewels that further demonstrate her wealth, but these are put together in a complimentary way with her make up being subtle demonstrating her purity. The audience that watches appears clean and well-dressed showing that they would never have to be in the ring below and are there purely for entertainment at others expense. The setting of the colosseum further establishes the time of the Roman empire and is a key feature of the city of Rome, thus establishing setting. The set also indicates exactly what goes on in the arena, people watch as slaves fight to the death, suggesting a power imbalance and a thirst for power in this culture. The set appears realistic and of this world but has clearly been edited as no such building exists in a complete form today.
 The lighting and editing create the atmosphere of the two worlds that are shown in the scene. The late sun creates many long shadows in the scene demonstrating that it is the end of the day. Maximus is the only person who is truly in the light of the sun within the colosseum, this makes him appear as the hero. Although not noticeable upon first glance the shadow shapes change position throughout the scene and this must have been overlooked in editing or shooting, but this will have been hard to plan if shot by daylight, it appears this was the case. The colour pallet in the scene consists of blues reds and yellows, mostly red and yellow in the real world and blue in the ethereal one. There is not a trace of green which could be a signification of the loss of life in the scene as green signifies life. In the shots in which Maximus goes to his family there is a distinct blue filter put over the screen, tinting it making it clearly another realm but in my opinion the filter is too harsh and so does not combine as well as it could with the scene as a whole and although the shots are beautiful I think it would work better if the contrast was more subtle but this will have been an intentional artistic decision rather than a mistake like the shadows were. Although in part the colour pallet is dull the shots are bright and eye catching, perhaps indicating the reality of the world which it shows which is bleak but also beautiful.
 The soundtrack and language in the scene further create a spiritual atmosphere, further emphasizing the connection between the real world and the spiritual world. The soundtrack is eery appearing to be folk or spiritual music. The language of the music sounds Gaelic but is in fact a language that the singer made up as a child to speak to god, which appears fitting as a god is called upon for faith when someone dies. The soundtrack is called Elysium which is a mythological term for the fields in which people especially soldiers would go to in their afterlife, it was their promised paradise. The moments of silence or struggle for words by Maximus show him fighting for life to deliver a final message as he drifts away. The music’s purpose appears to be to show the transition from life to death, demonstrating the importance of serving your civilization in these times. It further directs the viewer’s attention onto Maximus, shaping him as the fallen hero. The language of the film is spoken English as it is a British-American production, but the language that they would be speaking in is Latin or Italian.
 The scene establishes certain reactions and critics certain aspects of the civilisation that it depicts. As a whole the film cues reactions of bewilderment as it is a story of injustice versus justice and ultimately victory. As a standalone the scene cues a sense of loss but also fulfilment. The film encourages these reactions as it shows the injustice that the protagonist faces, making the viewer sympathise with him. And by bringing across his point of view his feelings are brought to the forefront. The film addresses the injustice of slavery and the danger in the lust for power that was found within the Roman empire, thus reflecting on how this is not acceptable. The film appears relatively high budget although the filter for when Maximus is dying seems cheap and the script is not written in a way that people speak, but overall it is a very good production.
 In conclusion this essay has critically analysed the scene ‘the Death of Maximus’ from Gladiator. The scene’s cinematography demonstrates Maximus’ perspective. The costume and setting establish time and place, establishing the power struggle and class injustice of ancient Rome. The lighting and editing create the dynamics in the scene, highlighting two different worlds and the focus onto the protagonist. Additionally, the soundtrack improves the ethereal and empowered undercurrents in the scene emphasizing the beauty of life and the hope for an afterlife. Finally, it effectively addresses the struggle of the protagonist and creates empathy for him.

Here Maximus is shown having killed his arch nemesis, the circle of people around him and the shadows in the rest of the frame clearly mark him as the centre of focus. The rose petals or red confetti on the colosseum floor represent the bloodshed and foreshadow the death that is about to happen.

The cool pallet demonstrates a different atmosphere or even realm. And the fields represent Elysium, the fields of paradise from ancient mythology where honourable people go after death.

Visual Exercise 1 Part 2: Framing
In all 6 of these shots I took a photo of at friend in the same location in different shots and framings, to see how much affect the shot has on the story that it tells. We were going from one place to another, so it was not the ideal location but hopefully they have turned out as planned. Interestingly the colour pallet in my shots mainly consists of green which was the main tone that was missing in my analysis piece.

Wide Shot (Rule of Thirds)
In this shot I positioned the subject at the edge of the first and second thirds. He is still the subject, but the eye is not only drawn to him, with the leading lines of the empty pathways appearing ominous, giving the shot an interesting depth of field. The fact that he is positioned to the side adds to his lonely appearing expression, he seems very alone in this photo with the empty space around him.

Medium Shot (Rule of Thirds)
In this medium shot the subject being on the side with people in the background makes him appear thoughtful, but as he is closer it seems that this is more from his point of view than the previous shot. The headroom give him space to breath or even think and frames him comfortably.

Here the space to the right of the subject gives the frame space to breath allowing for it to evoke another pensive atmosphere. But the cutting off of the top of the head creates an unease and the pursed lip and sidewards glance also indicate sadness.

Here the subject is clearly the centre of attention, with ample space all around him. What might have been a mistake here and in the following shots is that his background is not symmetrical which might be an issue to this type of shot.

Here the subject looks quite happy as he looks directly into the camera half smiling, as he is central he immediately pulls the attention of the viewer and is the unquestionable focal point of the shot.

Here the subject is pictured laughing and the fact that he is pictured so close brings out his emotions even more. He is clearly happy. The space around him is blurry and out of focus, further highlighting him as the key part in the shot.

Here we are with a fairly straightforward week! I know, I’m surprised by my restraint, too! Who could have imagined I’d ever manage a week with less than five comics. My wallet definitely would appreciate if I did so more often. 
Regardless, let’s get right into the bones I have to pick. With one of these entries. Because it’s a bone and a half. And I use a lot of UPPERCASE so uhhh Guess which one gets that treatment!!!

Whooooooooo boy. It’s been a long time since I picked up a new comic at release date and just.... did not have a pleasant experience reading it. Like at all. So this was kind of a disappointing conclusion to what has for the last year been a pretty solid record of maintaining great comic book readership. I don’t know why I’m even a little surprised it’s a Bendis comic.
Here’s the thing, I don’t... aggressively hate BMB as others do. I’m just critical of him on what I feel are pretty logical issues to be critical of someone on and in turn that leads to this dagger’s edge of when his comics are good, they’re really damn good. But when they’re bad? It’s like this collision of all the things in comics possible that work as my personal pet peeves. Which is why, though I genuinely adore Riri Williams as a character, and had been enjoying her book, I moved it to a trade wait status right along with Miles Morales: Spider-Man -- it’s easier to take the good with the bad when it’s not an issue by issue basis. 
And... well. Let’s just say that for being THE guy at Marvel who usually gets all the very best talent to lift up even most of his comics I didn’t personally enjoy? There was not that saving grace this time around. Believe you me. I wish there were. But let’s just jump into the details.
Story: TONY STARK AS THE SORCERER SUPREME. TONY. STARK. SORCERER. SUPREME. Who asked for this. Who wanted this. Who thinks this future makes absolutely any sense whatsoever other than calling what everyone has thought since Tony “died” in Civil War II which is that Marvel doesn’t have the actual guts it takes to permanently kill off a franchise character that isn’t the original Jean Grey? Who thought this was a good idea? Bendis. Basically because Bendis likes to pretend he’s doing Morrison-style shake ups of continuity and bringing things together but rarely delivers it in a way that is either consistent or satisfying. 
The one reason I’ve been giving a good number of these Generations books a chance isn’t because I’m particularly interested in the event itself. Truth be told I have absolutely no idea why it’s happening or why Laura was sent back through time to meet up with Logan in Japan or just... anything. I didn’t catch a single clue of what was going on. And I didn’t really care because I’ve read comics long enough that I just want the issues themselves that center around the characters I care about to make sense and be enjoyable on their own. That, for me, is the most valuable part of an experience comics can grant me. And when it doesn’t, I would hope that at the very least it would be because they were providing me some insight on the event as a whole because it was substituting characterization and plot for the Event. Which happens. 
This comic managed to not only provide neither of those things for me, I would argue that it made me unerstand less about the event and less about Bendis’ own characterizations for Riri and Tony than I had a handle on before. Which is... frankly impressive. Also... what a fucking bland future. Like I appreciate it not being a nightmare dystopia like every other comic book future, ESPECIALLY at Marvel, but..... damn, man. There was exactly no life in the city of mushrooms and LSD of tomorrow. Apparently the only inhabitants of a positive future are.... oh my god I can’t believe I have to type it again, Sorcerer Supreme Tony Stark, and the blandest version of the future Avengers I think I’ve ever seen. Like at that point why even bother. 
Oh and adult Franklin Richards is special. Shocking. YES. FRANKLIN IS AN OMEGA LEVEL MUTANT BUT WHY WOULD STARK GO TO HIM TO FIX TIME TRAVEL SHENANIGANS WHEN IT’S VALERIA WHO IS THE SUPER GENIUS AND WAS THE ONE IN THE PAST RUNS OF FF THAT INVOLVED FUTURE FRANKLIN TIME TRAVELING WHO CREATED THE TECHNOLOGY FOR HIM TO DO SO. BENDIS HAVE YOU NOT BEEN KEEPING UP WITH THE FF FOR THE PAST TWO DECADES OR SOMETHING WHAT THE HELL. Moving on... 
Art: One thing I can usually always count on with Marvel is that they love to match their best artists with the leading talents they have writing, and there’s no one shaping the entirety of the Marvel Universe right now more than Bendis, so usually the art for his comics is easily some of the best to come out in any given week.
....
That’s not.... really the case here??? Is it terrible, no not at all. And there’s definitely nice sequences. The problem arises from the page layouts which, ngl, utterly awful. There were multiple pages in a row where I had to reread the whole page again just so I could follow the dialogue. It was not easy to follow from one panel to the next, and the psychodellic affects just made me wish for 70s comics. Back when they had rulers. 
Characters & Dialogue: Sorcerer. Supreme. Tony. Freaking. Stark. No I’m not over it. Especially since this entire issue was more dedicated to beefing up how awesome and amazing Tony is. Riri’s fine, but her biggest part in this issue is to be Tony’s fan and to learn that she’ll be awesome!!!... in the future. She’s only 15 now! She’ll have to grow up into a more prominent hero in the next 45 real world years. But mostly it was... just really lazy. What’s interested me about Generations is that it’s given an excuse for Legacy characters to team up across timelines with versions of their predecessors that in all honesty would have not made sense in other context. What was great about the Wolverine issue I covered before wasn’t just that we got to see Logan and Laura the way we had back when Logan was alive. We got to see Laura with a version of her father that she had never met before. And to make it even more unique, it was viewing this older, more matured Laura almost entirely through the eyes of the father who didn’t yet know her. It was creative and it added depth for both characters even if it’s not going to be the source of some great shift in the main comics for them, it provides a refreshing look into who they are and even how far they’ve come. This issue? Honestly I can’t even tell you what Bendis’ goal was here. And that cover -- the name of the issue? -- the idea we’d get to see Iron Man and Ironheart team up together and kick ass is apparently just too predictable and lame for an event that is literally advertised as being that exact premise. 
I’m so annoyed with this comic. But I’m really more annoyed with myself for expecting something more interesting and paying Marvel’s outrageous and nearly unethical price gouging of their comics. $4.99 for this comic. I’m never getting that $4.99 back. That’s... That’s like five bags of chips from the vending machine at work. That’s a Hot & Ready pizza at Little Ceaser’s. I spent it on this comic. What’s wrong with me. What did I expect???
Dark Horse’s Usagi Yojimbo (1984-present) #161 Stan Sakai, Tom Luth

Why are the best comics always the most difficult to explain in quality? This thing has been going on for thirty years, has never changed writer or artist, has impressed by the hundreds of thousands, and drastically impacted the atmosphere and tone of comics publishing since the 80s right alongside Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, all without truly getting due credit. I would tell anyone who asked to just immediately drop what they’re reading and go catch up on Usagi, but it feels like that should go without saying. 
Instead I’ll say, this issue is the first of a new arc and since you can jump into Usagi Yojimbo comics at any point in continuity and be assured to have a good time and pick up what you need to know along the way, pick up today’s issue and get started.
Story: We see the collision of a few of Usagi’s favorite supporting casts and as always it leads to a lot of ruckus and a lot of fun. Though not specifically fun for Kitsune this time around as she’s been seemingly framed for murder. Fortunately Usagi comes in to vouch for her and due to Ishida’s immense respect for Usagi earned over the years Kitsune gets off relatively lighter than usual. But there’s still a murderer about. 
Now one of my compliments to Usagi Yojimbo and really the genius of Stan Sakai in general is that he’s maintained a high quality solo comic for over thirty years and somehow still makes new stories always keeping hot takes and ideas for characters refreshingly new and refreshingly fun. That remains true of this story, too, since this match up of supporting characters hasn’t exactly been seen yet, but at the same time I’m suspicious of the retread of the idea of Kitsune being framed for a crime other than the one she really did and Usagi having to figure out the mystery. I don’t expect that plot to be repeated beat for beat, especially since Inspector Ishida is here and that almost always develops into a more thickly plotted mystery story. So part of me talking up all that flowery wording on my adoration of these comics is to explain why, despite my usual instincts to be distrusting of a repetitive plot beat in comics, I know to expect more from the upcoming issue continuation and don’t have that fear of disappointment that has been instilled in me for the past two decades. 
Also new to the comic is the addition of a one page sub-story at the end of Chibi Usagi which might be the most adorable idea ever and Stan Sakai truly is the hero we don’t deserve. 
Art: I once read a comic reviewer’s explanation of Usagi Yojimbo’s art as being “deceptively simple” -- the bold lines, the character designs, the adherence to a completely black and white comic -- what is seemingly such a simple comic in theory dazzles with its true complexity and tight control of action sequences and blocking. Stan Sakai uses Japanese patterns and crosshatching as well as detailed background art to turn almost every sequence into an unmistakable landmark that makes every town and prefecture that Usagi travels to feel unique. 
It’s just one of those amazing things you have to see for yourself to truly believe. 
Characters & Dialogue: This section is pretty much purposeless on an Usagi Yojimbo comic because Sakai has been writing these characters so long and giving them all such identifiable traits and voices that they’re just always good. If you enjoy these characters then Sakai meets every heightened expectation along the way.
DC’s Wonder Girl: Adventures of a Teen Titan  John Byrne, Bob Kanigher, Bruno Premiani, Neal Adams, Ross Andru, Bob Haney

One thing I have liked recently that DC’s been doing is these recollections of their properties that for a long time they haven’t capitalized on the most, and there’s probably no better example of that exact thing than the severely underrated Wonder Girl Legacy, which has finally earned a short and cute collection going over all the (three) Wonder Girls over the years and even includes the introduction of SOLSTICE! One of my favorite underutilized characters. 
It’s a super neat collection, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the history of Wonder Girl (which is a bumpy ride to be sure) but it also spans so many generations and so many writers and story arcs that I can’t really summarize it the way I do my usual reviews. I can just say that if you’re curious about the Wonder Girls, it’s a great collection to check out. 
Also as a side note, as someone who was deeply disappointed by the lackluster to downright confused and insulting use of Cassie Sandsmark in the New52, DC is apparently doctoring the character to resemble more of what she was in the preboot because the New52 is utterly ignored in this collection, hilariously enough.
Oh, those tides. How they turn. 
The unsurprising pick of the week is, obviously, Usagi Yojimbo. It’s one of the best comics ever made, it continues to be one of the best comics ever made, and also the competition was thin if only I’m being lenient. But regardless, this comic was a fantastic start to the new storyline and I’m so excited to see what twists and turns shall be weaved.

Hello, I'm the jealous anon with the friend obsession, do you remember? I know I said there were no romantic feels but now I'm so confused because I even crave her attention. I wasn't one to ever have friendships in which I genuinely cared for them so I think that maybe it's because it's one of my rare "real" friendships you know? Also I didn't think I was bisexual? Like I thought that I might be but I thought it was because of my OCD and the same happened with asexuality so i don't even know(1)
What I am anymore. But more importantly, I am so confused because of my friend and I bet she would want to distance herself from me and I don't even want to think about it! My heart always throbs when she gives me attention and I'm always so happy when she gives me more attention than to others. I don't know what this is because I think I neither know what real friendship feels like nor what love feels like. hi love sorry this took ages for me to reply to. it’s a very confusing situation to be in, especially since it could very well be romantic feelings, but then it’s also impossible for me to tell you what you’re feeling, and i’ve been similarly obsessed with friends so i relate, but i couldn’t tell you for sure.
it’s frustrating not knowing your sexuality or your feelings towards a friend, and i absolutely unerstand the fear of losing a friend due to a crush. take your time to discover yourself and try not to stress yourself out about it. it’s okay to be confused and unsure !
give it some time, and if you think you might want a romantic relationship wiht your friend, then you could bring it up with her i guess? i’m not very good at this sort of advice though, so hopefully our followers can help out !

Dead Tony : the eyes collector
On November sixth,2014, I moved into a new apartment with my daughter Melissa. She was seven years old. Everything was going well, we had a pretty house. The house was near a forest,it was supposed to help Melissa with her asthma.
One day she went out to play with her friends,and she hasn't returned in along time. I wadbat home playing with my dog Emily, it was already 9pm, and Melissa still didn't return home. I was worried something might have happened to her, so I wore my coat, took a flashlight and went out to look for Melissa.
After a while I finally found Melissa. She was sitting on a bench, cavering her eyes and crying "What's wrong?!" I asked her. She hugged me tightly and began to explain. "I'm sorry dad, all this time you warned me not talk to strangers, and I didn't listen." She said.
"What happened?" I asked her.
"When my friends went home I continued to play in the playground. And when it started getting darks, a boy with a red hoodie walked towards me, he had red eyes and he was crying. At first I thought he was nice, so I offered him some of my orange juice. He started asking me questions and..."
"What happened?" I asked.
"Nothing happened but when his questions started to become scary, I started crying, He didn,t like that and told me to stop crying. I couldn't stop crying so he threatened to gouge my eyes out. I started running away and i slipped , and then he disappeared."
When we wentt back home I tucked her to bed and sat my computer. I won't call the police yet' i thought to myself . I have to relax. But suddenly i saw something that ran shivers down my spine. On the desktop of my computer a new file appeared called "Dead Tony" , it was a photo . I opened the photo and realised the picture was taken from my computer's webcam! In the picture there wad a boy , and he had red or black eyes , ad if he don't have eyes at all. There was something laying on the couch in the back, it was probably Emily. The picture was taken 20 minutes ago, probably when I went out to look for melissa.
At first i panicked but then my panick was replaced by anger. This kid didn't just mate Melissa cry, he also broke into my house and took a picture of himself. I started looking around the house , but there was no memory left from the kid. He probably wan outside, so I went outside to look for him.
I didn't have to look for along time to find something that was about 30 meters away from the playground. It was a boy that looked around 13 years old with a weird haircut. I walked towards him, but when I was about to call the police , I noticed he was extremely pale, and had red eyes , just like Melissa described him. He had a jar filled with red balls in one hand and a swiss army knife in the other. On second glass , they aren't red balls but human eyes!
Suddenly , he looked at me and asked , "Sir, is there something wrong, that you're staring at me like that?."
"You son of a bitch , I'll beat you up!". I told him i wanted to jump on him but he was quicker than me , and he stabbed me in the hand. Then quickly pulled out the knife and stabbed me again in the stomach. I feel to the ground and he gouged my eye out with hisb hand and said "Don't cry, everything's gonna be fine , I'll callban ambulance . Do you unerstand why I onlu gouged out one eye? So you'll be able to see the surprise waiting for you at home. By the way, my name it Tony, Dead Tony." he placed my eye in his jar , called an ambulance and ran away.
I couldn't move because of the pain. Eventually I lost consciousness.
I woke up in a hospital, and I've been told someone murdered Melissa . I immediately knew who it was, and I wanted to kill him. If you have any information send it tome , because I have no information on Tony expect for this photo

analysing the tri.angle
Remember when people thougt we were getting a “love triangle” in Chapter 4? Well, that didn’t last long. What we did get, though, is far more interesting.
@skuag​ asked me to write about the parallels between Soushitsu and Episode 26 of Digimon Adventure, and so here’s a brief analysis of the Taichi/Sora/Yamato scenes in both of them. Beware of tri. spoilers.
Considering how every moment in tri. or takes us back to Adventure and 02, it’s hardly surprising that a Chapter focusing on Sora should have strong parallels to Sora-centric episodes from the original series, like Episode 26. In fact, both episodes focus on Sora going through a deep emotional crisis, and both include in a new Piyomon evolution. 
However, most crucially for many fans, tri. Chapter 4 also happens to mirror a very famous scene from Episode 26 — which happens one of the most famous moments in Taiorato history. The basic framework is the same: Sora is upset, and Taichi and Yamato try to comfort her, each in his own way. 
Let’s look at the similarities and differences between the scenes in Adventure and tri.
In Episode 26, Sora has an emotional crisis about her mum’s love and her Crest. Taichi and Yamato approach this in radically different ways. Here’s an example:
Taichi: “I don’t unerstand this at all! Man, girls are so much trouble!
Yamato: “Don’t make fun of her, Taichi.”
Taichi: I’m just kidding!
Later, Sora explains what’s going on and breaks down in tears.
Taichi: Hey, don’t cry! H-hey, Yamato… What should I do?
Yamato: If she wants to cry, then let her.
In short, Taichi doesn’t really understand why Sora’s so upset about this, but still tries to convince her PicoDevimon is lying and to cheer her up; on the other hand, Yamato just tells him to let her cry. This makes Agumon and Gabumon point out comment how mature he is (well… in comparison to Taichi). The basic idea is that Yamato is more emotionally attuned than Taichi.
Fans of Taichi/Sora and Yamato/Sora have longed used this scene to show why their favourite ship works better and/or to disprove the other ship. Indeed, the two boys react to Sora’s tears in opposite ways, so it makes sense that many people look at the scene and decide that this shows which of the boys "gets” Sora best — and, ultimately, which couple would be more compatible, romantically. 
Of course, the scene takes place between three 5th graders, so it’s hard to see it as an indication of romantic feelings of any kind. From my (admittedly biased) perspective, the scene mainly serves to indicate the differences between Taichi and Yamato, and to illustrate the different dynamic between each of them and an emotionally complex Sora.  For instance, a Taichi/Sora fan may find Yamato’s aloofness too cold, while a Yamato/Sora fan may read the exact same reaction as proof that he understands her on a deeper level. 
There are many possible, valid readings of this scene — enough to support your own opinions about the Taiorato “triangle”.
In Soushitsu, though, the circumstances are slightly more complicated. 
Now, Taichi, Sora, and Yamato are teenagers, with all the emotional and psychological transformations this implies. They now know each other inside and out. Sora and Yamato may or may not have a bit of a romantic past (at any rate, they’re closer here than in Episode 26: she’s dropped the -kun!). Taichi and Yamato are currently undergoing a bit of a rough patch in their own relationship. 
Even Sora’s reasons to be upset are slightly more reasonable than being angry at her Mum — Piyomon, the one person who puts Sora first, is directly telling her to leave her alone. No room for misunderstandings here. Meanwhile, everyone else is happily reconecting with their partners and blithely ignoring Sora’s suffering.
So, when Sora leaves the group and sits by the water looking gloomy, she has every reason to be sad.

Miraculously enough, Taichi and Yamato notice this, and decide to tackle the problem as a team. Their first approach is a complete failure. Yamato breaks the ice and asks Sora what’s wrong, and she coldly deflects. Since Yamato’s repertoire is probably exhausted at this point, he urges Taichi to try... but he only blurts out something about food. Yamato face palms. Taichi sighs and tries a more gentler approach to ask whats wrong… Sora just says they’re stupid.
Now, you can’t blame Sora for this. Taichi and Yamato are being obtuse as hell for not realising there is something wrong with Piyomon. But hey, to their credit, at least they noticed something — the other kids are fast asleep and don’t seem too bothered that she’s is going through a crisis. Nice friends you got there, Sora!
Which brings us to the second scene. Yeah, Sora is really upset about Piyomon giving her the cold shoulder (wing?). But she’s also upset that no one else seems to notice that this is happening. Everyone was apparently too busy to care about Sora’s issues — even Taichi and Yamato.
Sora: “You two sure can’t read the situation. You guys have bad timing and always fighting. Everyone only thinks about themselves!”
(I can’t help but to feel that this “everyone” is a little jab at the other five, as well. But it’s mostly about these two.)
Essentially, Taichi and Yamato’s attempts to comfort her utterly fail because they really are being selfish and unable to grasp the elephant in the room. Sora interprets this as them not really caring about her and her feelings. Because, if they did, wouldn’t they have gotten what’s really going on between her and Piyomon?
So, Sora is angry, she doesn’t communicate, and both boys are completely lost. And the main difference lies there.
Unlike Episode 26, Sora doesn’t say what’s bothering her. Taichi and Yamato can’t read her mind or the situation, so how can they provide reassurance? Taichi still can’t handle these situations well, but he can’t refute the reasons why she’s sad because he doesn’t know what they are. And Yamato can’t say “let her cry” because… well, now he doesn’t know what she’s crying about, does he? This time, crying may not be as cathartic as it was then. The same approaches may not apply here.
Mind you, the differences Taichi and Yamato’s personalities are still pretty clear — Taichi is more blunt and positive, Yamato is more emphatic but has trouble expressing feelings. And they’re both imperfect idiots.
But they’re all stuck in a rut — because Sora doesn’t come clean and explain, and Taichi and Yamato are totally lost. At this point, asking Takeru for help doesn’t seem a bad idea. Remember, in episode it was Takeru who knew the right thing to say, and he was the one who made Sora feel better.

Similarly, in tri., Takeru is clearly better at expressing emotions than his brother. Heck, maybe Takeru is simply more sensitive and better at handling women people. Maybe Sora kinda needed to hear “I really like you” at that point? But alas, plot gets in the way and nothing gets solved until much later.
The third Taiorato scene in Soushitsu illustrates the crucial difference between these two stories. In tri., Sora gets over her crisis on her own. She doesn’t confess to Taichi and Yamato, and so they don’t help her get over it.
So, when Taichi and Yamato apologise for upsetting her (lbr, at this point they probably still have no idea what’s wrong or what they’re apologising for) … Sora can truthfully say everything’s fine — because now she is fine.

In my opinion, it’s actually a pretty brilliant conclusion because hey, yeah, these two are kinda dumb, but at the same time Sora understands that they do care about her. At least they tried. Anyway, now her problems with Pyokomon are over, so she has that emotional support, which she apparently can’t always get from her childhood best friend and her unclear-it’s-complicated best friend. Sora can stand on her own.
To me, the main difference between these two episodes is clear: in Soushitsu, Sora doesn’t get resolution by opening up to Taichi and Yamato and being comforted by them. She gets there on her own (with a bit of Meiko’s help, because at this point Meiko is the only one who actually seems to understand the Piyomon situation). The situation has parallels with Episode 26, but it develops rather differently. 
If you’re looking at the Taiorato scenes in Soushitsu to find clues about “which of the boys understands Sora better”, you’ll be disappointed. I think the point is that, at this moment, none of them do. It really isn’t about “Taichi / Yamato fits Sora better”. It’s about Sora overcoming an emotional crisis, independently.
Soushitsu shows that both Taichi and Yamato still have a long way to go before they can understand and communicate feelings. And, above all, it shows that they can be pretty self-centered when it comes to Sora. Their intentions are good, and their affection for her is palpable — but man, they do need to grow up and start appreciating her more. 
In the end of the day, I think most fans probably be happy with the shippy implications on both these scenes — sure, the text is super platonic, but it also highlights the appeal of all sides of the Taiorato tri.angle.
