A/N I finally wrote something! 🤣 This idea came about last night when replaying Book 3. I always opt to have my MC, Chris, take a photo of just her and Tobias at Ines's wedding reception. Originally, I hoped this scene would open up a romance option with Tobias. Sadly, PB didn't give it to me, LOL, so this is how I wish things had gone down canon wise.

"You look like you could use this."

Chris turned around at the familiar voice. Her eyes darted over how handsome the man before her looked dressed to the nines in his blue suit. Humor lurked in the hazel depths of his eyes as he in turn noticed her taking every inch of him in.

Tobias exaggerated clearing his throat. He held up the two fruity cocktails in his hands and playfully shook one.

Chris smiled in response while reaching for the glass that had cherries and a pineapple spear sitting on the rim.

Tobias lifted it out of her reach.

He clucked his tongue in mock disapproval. "Hold on. You know what you have to do to earn this."

Chris's smile dimmed. She wasn't certain if it was the fact they were guests at Ines's romantic Hawaiian wedding or that her hopeful imagination was getting the better of her again. Something though was different between Tobias and herself. The pair had always bantered back and forth and enjoyed the sharp wit of the other. Somehow along the way, the teasing took on a slight sexual edge.

She couldn't help but think he was attractive. Even when she first deemed him the enemy the year before, she found him incredibly sexy. Now that she was coming to know the type of man he truly was, she knew she was falling hard for Tobias.

She wasn't the only one feeling this way.

Tobias had been playing the long game with Chris. He'd thought her cute the first time he'd seen her at Leland Bloom's home. Going head to head with her and Ethan had been one of more enjoyable aspects of his job. Each time he saw her after that, though she glared at him, made him want to know her even more.

After the attack, her attitude changed towards him. He found himself the recipient of her warm smiles and good natured teasing. Even while fighting for her life, she never lost her sense of humor.

He admired her spirit, her mind, and to no one who knew him's surprise, her body.

The moment he joined Edenbrook's diagnostic team, he was finally able to see if his brief impressions of Chris were accurate. The more time he spent with her, the more he saw why there were a few at Edenbrook with feelings for her. She made it easy to fall head over heels.

Normally, he'd have already made his move. Given their close work relationship and the fact he suspected Ethan and Chris had an interesting past, he held back. When it came to Chris, he didn't want any competition, whether it be a literal person or one of secret pining for said person.

If things were to work out like he thought, he'd want Chris's heart and mind for himself. There would be no other way he could be with her.

It's odd, he thought to himself. Normally I'd be all for having her without any expectations or even caring if she wanted someone else.

But now...

"What do I have to do?" Chris interrupted his thoughts.

A slight blush graced her cheeks from the way he was looking at her.

Tobias pointed towards the photo booth.

One look at his suspicious smile made Chris double over with laughter.

"You found the box of props, didn't you?" She asked between giggles.

"You bet I did." He chuckled. "What do you say we drag Ethan and Harper in there and get a team photo."

"You really think you can get Ethan to don a wig and clown nose?" She asked.

"Nope." He grinned at her. "Even I'm not that persuasive."

"I don't know," she teased. "From my experience, you have quite a way about you."

Her smile grew the longer she looked at him.

"You've already got me agreeing to not only get in that photo booth, but also help you convince our more serious team members to join us."

"Then my charm is finally being used for good." He handed her a cocktail with a wink. "Let's take a dose of liquid courage and make our attack."

"No." Ethan told them. "I prefer to keep my dignity intact."

"Dignity is overrated." Tobias teased.

Harper shook her head over that statement. "I'm all for a team photo, but I would like it to represent us in a more positive, respectful light."

Chris rolled her eyes. "Honestly, I think having such a picture would show our patients we're people too, ones with an excellent sense of humor."

"Our patients don't care about whether or not we have a sense of humor." Ethan argued. "They only want us to make them feel better. Nothing more, nothing less."

"Spoil sports." Tobias muttered. "Well Chris, it's up to me and you to show these two how to have fun."

Harper snorted in amusement. "I'll take my fun with getting another drink."

She waved goodbye on her way to the open bar.

Before he could engage the pair in a conversation, Ethan watched as Tobias grabbed Chris's hand and dragged her into the booth. His brow furrowed when he noticed they'd forgotten to grab props for their fun photo.

Curious about what they were doing behind the closed curtain, he went to watch the line of photos start to appear.

The first photo was of the two of them laughing. The second one had a more normal smile. The third one made him pause. The pair were looking at each other in a way he didn't want to contemplate. In fact, the image showed that Tobias was looking at the young lady beside him as if seeing her for the very first time.

Ethan's feelings for Chris had never died. If anything, they'd gotten stronger over time. He worked hard to keep things professional and continued to keep her at arm's length. It was difficult given how often they were together at work, but he knew it was for the best.

The fourth picture made his heart sink. The two in the booth were closer than before with heads tilted as if they were about to--

"Ethan?"

He spun away from his worst fears developing in the fifth picture. Harper eyed him for a few seconds before moving to see what held his attention.

Her eyes widened over the photograph of Tobias and Chris sharing a passionate kiss.

"Oh!" She exclaimed. "I had no idea they were together."

A muscle spasmed in Ethan's jaw.

"Excuse me." He bit out.

He left the reception with quick strides. The sound of the waves hitting the shore nor the warm breeze blowing did little to calm the emotions roiling within. He wished his curiosity had not gotten the better of him. Tonight could have ended with him simply dreaming about all the things he would have liked to have done with Chris if they'd been a couple.

Ethan briefly closed his eyes. He knew exactly how their night would have gone.

He would have been her date to the wedding. There would have been hints that one day they might like to have a destination wedding like Ines and Angie. They'd have spent the reception basking in the romantic atmosphere. Slow dances would have been shared. Flirting would have led to them slipping away shortly before the cake was cut.

Chris would have teased him that he better make it up to her for missing out on wedding cake. Ethan would have done so with a moon lit walk on the beach followed by retiring to their shared suite. He'd then have spent the entire night making love to her, proving that his heart was fully hers.

Ethan shook himself out of his pointless thoughts. He'd made his choice two years earlier. He could have had everything he wanted if he'd only considered that Chris was different from any other woman he'd known. Now he was left with longing for what might have been.

He eased into the shadows when he heard footsteps combined with Chris's laughter approaching.

"And just where are you taking me, Dr. Carrick?" Chris asked with a flirty lilt to her voice.

"Someplace where we can't be interrupted." Tobias paused to pull her back into his arms.

The two shared a deep kiss.

A moan, Ethan recalled all too well having once in his life caused, slipped out of Chris. That sound was embedded in his mind. He never imagined hearing another man cause it. It hurt worse than he could have imagined, knowing it wasn't because of his own lips touching hers.

"I think I know what's going to happen when we get behind a locked door." She said softly, all teasing gone. "But what happens when the sun rises?"

Ethan winced at the memory of Chris asking him that very question years ago. After a night proving how perfectly they fit together in every single fashion, he responded that they would go back to their lives as if nothing had happened between them.

He couldn't see his former best friend and roommate wanting anything more than a one night stand. Perhaps, Ethan could still hold on to what he longed for most in this world.

Tobias shocked him with his response.

"I will take you out for breakfast." He pressed a tender kiss to her lips. "That way we can talk about our new relationship."

Chris stilled.

"Relationship?" She asked hesitantly.

"I want more than tonight with you." Tobias held her close. "I want you to be mine, no one else's."

Ethan watched Chris's face fill with joy. With a slight gasp, she kissed Tobias with all the love she'd kept for the one who could give her what she wanted.

The new couple hurried into the hotel.

Ethan moved out of the shadows. He couldn't quite wrap his head around all that had occurred within the last hour.

Why didn't I ask Chris to dance earlier? Why didn't I agree to do the asinine picture? Would it have stopped her getting with Tobias?

He knew that Bryce had gone after Chris. Seeing them together hadn't hurt. Bryce was completely different from Ethan. Though they were both doctors, their studies didn't line up. He knew he'd never have Bryce's fun loving swagger. In his eyes, he knew it wasn't a competition between them for Chris's affection.

With Tobias, it was a huge blow to Ethan's ego. The two were too similar. Both were highly intelligent, loved the mystery diagnostics allowed them to pursue, and they had similar temperaments.

"Not anymore." Ethan muttered to himself.

Tobias had changed these last ten years. He still was driven with his love of a good mystery, but he no longer lost his temper as quickly as he once had. There was no need to one-up Ethan over every single thing.

Ethan realized that Tobias had become a man he would actually enjoy being close to again.

How could he now? The man was with the woman he desperately loved.

"There you are!" Harper jogged up the path.

"Looking for me?" Ethan asked.

"I was worried about you." She admitted.

"I'm fine." He replied.

"Ethan." She gently touched his cheek. "It's me. You know you can talk to me. I can see you're upset."

He blinked, stepping away from her.

"I'm not upset." He snapped.

Her eyes narrowed. "I saw you and I saw what happened in that photo booth."

Ethan stiffened after shoving his hands in his pockets. He tried to walk away from someone else confirming his heartache. Harper was having none of it.

She placed a hand on his chest and stepped directly into his path.

"I saw, Ethan." She repeated. "I've seen how you look at Chris. Does she know you're in love with her?"

Ethan averted his eyes. Shaking his head, he heaved a deep sigh.

Harper softened her tone. "Why didn't you tell her?"

"There were many reasons." He muttered. "Though, none of them seem important now."

"You could still tell her." Harper argued. "What we saw was probably nothing more than just two people giving in to the romance of the evening. Tomorrow you can--"

He shook his head, silencing her halfhearted attempt to cheer him up.

"It's too late." He swallowed. "I've uh, I've burned a lot of bridges between me and Chris."

He glanced up at the hotel, wondering which room she was in.

"Someone else came along and gave her what she wanted."

Harper wrapped her arms around him in a comforting hug.

He didn't return it. After a few seconds, he untangled himself from her embrace.

"Ethan? It will get easier."

"Perhaps." He conceded. "For right now, I need to be alone."

He began to walk inside of the hotel. He knew it would be a torturous night in his lonely suite. He anticipated having many miserable nights the next few months since he now possessed front row seats for Chris and Tobias's new relationship. He knew deep down that no matter how much time passed, his heart would never fully heal.

When it came to Chris, it would always hurt.

You literally felt empty. Your whole life was about your three best friends that you grew up with since you were kids, the ones you always sat with at lunch and hang out with after school. Now you spent your days locked in a boring routine; You got up in the morning to go to school, came home for dinner, and slept early until you had to get up again the next morning. Your parents paid little attention to your situation and your only friend had moved to Seattle a few months ago, so you spent your days alone.

Suddenly, a very unexpected news brightened up your days a little; Your mother had gotten a new job so you would all move to Forks and you would leave La Push and your old friends behind. You would finally stop being the pathetic girl in school and town that everyone was giving looks at.

There, in the Forks High School, you met a group of kids who had approached you one morning to invite you to have lunch with them in the cafeteria, and despite wanting to say no, you found yourself accepting their invitation.

Despite not being like you always were with your former best friends, the times you shared with them were strangely pleasant. They were the only ones who had made you laugh in months and now you had even gone on several dates with Christopher, one of the guys in this new group.

At first, dating Christopher was quite awkward, as you noticed that your attraction to him was mainly due to the fact that he was very similar to Embry; he possessed the same charming personality as him, the same shyness as him and even his own sense of humor. Even so, you accepted what destiny was giving you and you gave yourself the chance to love again, but this time without keeping it a secret and giving yourself the opportunity to feel freely.

Now they were all at La Push beach, having decided that they would try surfing and have a picnic afterwards. You were quite nervous to go there and meet your old friends, but the guys quickly dispelled your doubts by convincing you that you would have a lot of fun and you certainly were.

After seeing how several of your friends fell off their boards, Chris asked you if you wanted to take a walk with him on the beautiful beach, so you had been walking by the water's edge while you both talked about whatever thing that came to your mind.

After a while, Chris moved closer to you and as covertly as he could, wrapped his arm around your shoulders. He gave you a nervous look asking if that was okay and you smiled up at him. If only your hands weren't freezing cold, you would have entwined your hand with his, but you recovered by getting closer to him than was humanly possible. The little heat that radiated from his body made you feel more comfortable and happy to be by his side.

You turned your head and noticed that you could no longer see the silhouettes of your friends "Chris, I think we got a little farther away" you said with a laugh. You guys had been so engrossed in each other that you didn't realize how far apart you were from your friends, so you turned around and continued on your way to the place where the picnic was supposed to have started.

You and Chris were talking about what you're going to do when school is over and all of a sudden he starts caressing your cheek and you really couldn't stop your eyes from drifting to his lips, something he clearly noticed and soon copied. You were like that for a few minutes until you both approached to kiss for the first time.

As you got closer you could smell his cologne combined with the sweet aroma of coconut, coming from the wax that they used for the surfboards that morning. You could even see the slight gray spots that his blue irises had, the way his curly hair fell over his face and with that last image in your brain, you closed your eyes ready to welcome something you had been waiting for weeks...

But, he made a loud noise of pain, forcing you to open your eyes and jerk away from the beautiful feeling that had begun to grow in you. He saw him doubled over in pain as he held his stomach with both hands, a football thrown at his feet. You worried and matched his height as you asked if he was alright, his only response being a nod as he gave you a smile more like a grin in an attempt to try and mask his pain, it had been embarrassing for him that just when He was about to kiss you something like that happened to him. You softly kissed the top of his head and took the ball as you looked around to yell at whoever threw it at him.

It's fair to say that seeing the famous "Cult of Sam" was not something you wanted, you had literally all their eyes on you, even from people you didn't know, but the most amazing were your friends. Jacob and Quil looked... guilty. Embry? You had no idea, he just looked at you as if he seemed surprised, what you had no idea. You only held their gazes for a few seconds while your heart and mind filled with pain again. You forced yourself to push those feelings back as you set the ball back on the ground and stood next to Chris to help him walk to where your friends were waiting. Every step away from the boy you loved and the boys you missed the most made your heart break again.

seungmin is mr 'its not like i like you' in the beginning where he's not mean by any means, but he is like hm. farmer :/. kinda like haley? he's nice enough to people he knows super well, but he takes a moment to warm up to new ppl in the valley. tourists? he's polite enough. a random person who moved there out of nowhere? ew. why would you come here? but he warms up to you quickly. he lives w jeongin! sometimes he'll go visit him after he marries you and they just have a friends day. anyway i think his heart events talk about him wanting to be a photographer. maybe you help him get a website together that he continues to maintain into marriage + he'll go off and take pics in the forest on some days. lovingly cooks and waters ur crops for u <3

i.n... lives with seungmin, as mentioned before, and i think he'd work at joja. openly tells you he dislikes it but he's gotta make a living somehow. he mentions that sometimes he'll help minho with teaching the kids if he needs it, but sometimes he'll also tutor any of the kids needing the extra help (minho always recommends him bc he knows jeongin wants the extra money). honestly i feel like he'd probably enjoy married life on the farm where he can explore what he wants to do in life without having to worry too heavily about other things. probably has very sweet heart events where u can really see how mature he is sometimes. one of them involves him tutoring the kids outside one day and u get to impart farmer knowledge on them (which is pulling from one of penny's but shh).

this was during the summer of 2020. the covid-19 pandemic had been raging for approximately three months, and this was the first of many brief quarantine relaxations that would take place in austria over the following year. we were permitted to travel, ride public transportation with a mask, and generally act like jackasses after too many long weeks of laying around in a stupor, doing nothing of consequence but giving ourselves mild alcohol poisoning with cheap, nasty beer and liquor. I actually can't drink rum anymore to this very day due to a separate event in march, but I digress. ed, martha, and I had been quarantining together in ed's apartment in the south of (sketchy-ass) linz near bulgariplatz, and to this very day I consider myself closer to these two people than I am my actual siblings.

but things were beginning to open and we were feeling stir-crazy, so we began tooling around the country together staring from around may. one trip to innsbruck/feldkirch/bregenz/liechtenstein, one trip to hallstadt/gmunden, one trip to bratislava, the works. lots of time spent in vienna because I quite honestly felt twitchy being away for too long but couldn't bear to leave ed and martha and completely shatter my already fragile psyche.

it came to ed's attention that a man whom he'd befriended during a study abroad term in vienna while he was doing his bachelor's, chris, was still in town, so we began hanging out with him, which quickly became one of the more unpleasant and draining aspects of our outings.

chris was an asshole. I can just come out and drop that one from the jump. loud, boorish, needlessly aggressive, had a sophomoric sense of humor, and seemed like he had it out for me in particular. literally everything out of his mouth was some unpleasant dig, usually towards me, and he seemed to think it was really funny to shout "hurry up, cripple!" at me and got all surprised pikachu when I didn't respond positively. I put up with it for ed's sake, as he seemed desperate for social interaction and appropriately embarrassed regarding chris' behavior.

the prater incident, as it has infamously come to be known, occurred during my last meeting with chris (and to my knowledge, anyone else's. I'm pretty sure ed stopped talking to him after this, and good riddance)

so we roll back into vienna and martha has a suitcase in tow because she's about to fly back to the US at like five in the morning, a fact we're all trying not to think about because it's just too brutal. chris comes and grabs us, immediately makes some stupid comment about how I'm dressed like a vampire, and we decide to head down to donauinsel because it's still light out and it's hot as balls

the second we get there, the second we set down our stuff by the water, chris rolls a couple of joints and thankfully shuts up for a minute while we smoke. and then opens his wallet and asks without any leadup "okay, who wants ecstasy."

record scratch moment as I have a terrible premonition of the night ahead. but I open my hand because, like, come on. I'm not not going to do ecstasy.

it takes maybe twenty minutes to start setting in, by which time the other three have started skinny-dipping in the river. I abstained despite chris throwing barbed comments my way because I didn't want to mess up my clothes (a puffy ecru pussybow blouse and an embroidered black velvet vest with silver buttons), I didn't want this jackass to see me naked and have more to comment on, and I was at that moment sitting on a rock and holding onto it for dear life to keep from falling off the side of the planet.

they stumble out after a while, the sun is going down and it's starting to cool off, and while they get dressed it's decided that we're going to prater because we're already on the U1 and where else do you go when you can't get into the club because someone's got a suitcase and you're all on molly.

at some point we consume an entire bottle of jägermeister between the four of us, just standing around at praterstern, which in hindsight was honestly probably not the best idea.

it's at this time that martha decides she doesn't feel like walking.

"I don't wanna," she goes, about to just flop to the ground and making ed and I take one of her arms to keep her upright. we literally have to brace her and drag her along. for the medically concerned reading: she was fine. she literally just didn't feel like it and wanted us to carry her.

we ride bumper cars at some point? ed and I in one car, chris and martha in the other. I drive and ram into them repeatedly. the attendant has to shut the whole ride down at one point to take the last of the jägermeister off of chris, casting us all a knowing, disapproving look before letting us finish our time. he gives it to me personally as we walk off, because I was the least visibly fucked up. I apologize, he just shakes his head.

we transition to pickwick's at schwedenplatz and drink more, not that it's a good idea. chris puts his jacket on me for some reason and tells me I look stupid. I roll my eyes and go out to the canal and smoke one of his cigarettes. In a fit of drunken, drugged pettiness, I literally fling his jacket into the canal and watch it float away. he never notices when I come back in. I never hear about it again. he's so fucked up he won't remember a single thing until we get to the airport.

because that's another thing. all three of these jokers are blackout, and no matter how drunk or high or crossfaded I get, I'm cursed by god to remain perfectly, terribly lucid, no matter how much I beg and pray otherwise.

so that's why I'm the only one to remember later, while we're all standing around at the bridge across the canal:

oh shit. martha has to go to the airport. like. right the fuck now.

martha is honestly lucky to still be in possession of her suitcase. ed is staring off into the middle distance, gently waving back and forth like a reed in the wind. chris is babbling some bullshit about "I just don't want you to hate me", on the verge of tears.

"bit late for that," I say, wrenching his phone from his hands and ordering us an uber from his account. I shove the three of them in the backseat the second we get there, fling martha's suitcase in the trunk, and climb up front with the driver. I proceed to have what was, to that point, the most fluent conversation in german I've ever had in my life while mostly succeeding in appearing normal despite being fucked up beyond all recognition.

the driver's driving like he's running from god. I become aware that while it's certainly not mandatory that I vomit, I very much could at any point in time if I chose to do so. it was just a matter of making that decision.

we get to the airport in the nick of time. martha thinks she lost her phone. "we'll mail it to you," I say, hug her and kiss her on both cheeks, and practically shove her through to security. she later finds it in her back pocket when she sobers up a couple hours into the flight. of course.

ed and chris are starting to come to already, shuffling around in front of the spar by the train station at flughafen wien. we're all just trying to get our bearings, maybe eat something quickly before ed and I run back to linz.

"oh," I say quietly as I spot some airport police, in a voice that sounded like it was coming from very far away. "it's the gendarmerie." I'd just been in paris at the end of last year before the world ended, so the word is still at the forefront of my mind.

chris starts in on me again. "gendarmerie? gendarmerie? god, you're so pretentious, everything out of your mouth is the most ridiculous shit--" and on and on and on.

I look at him. I look him up. I look him down.

I remember that I still have certain options at my disposal.

without warning, I bend right over and vomit all over his shoes.

ed immediately jumps to my side and frog-marches me to the bathroom, going "you'll be alright, you're okay, you're fine, let's go", and leaves me at the sink while he leaves with paper towels.

1. How did they first meet?

Back in 8 ABY, Mando was out on a job in the Outer Rim hunting down a criminal gang leader who had kidnapped an important political figure to sell off into slavery. He managed to hunt down the criminal and the politician, but he discovered there was another prisoner as well, a relatively unknown smuggler and gambler with a rather impressive bounty on her head in the underworld, so he thought it would be a great idea to bring her in. She wasn't all too happy about it and after leaving a literal dent in his chestplate from a simple punch, they agreed that she'll work with him until her bounty is paid off.

2. What was their first impression of each other?

Less than great. Din thought she was some unlucky hotshot upstart that pissed off the wrong people at the wrong time, while Sarai thought he was yet another bounty hunter who has taken one too many cues from Boba Fett. Basically, they weren't impressed.

3. Did any of their friends or family want them to get together?

Oh yeah. OH YEAH. The people they encountered (such as Greef, Cara, Cobb, and Kuiil) saw how well they worked together as a pair and how they protected the kid with their lives. Some even already thought they were a pair and were just really good at hiding it.

4. Who felt romantic feelings first?

I gotta say, it was definitely Mando. This guy discovered that he has a weakness for kids and good treatment of kids when he saw how motherly Sarai acted towards Grogu since day 1. That, and her kindness towards people also turned from an annoyance to a trait he admired.

6. If you had told one of them that the other would be their soulmate, what would they think?

Mando would've just walked away and Sarai would've laughed in your face.

7. What would their lives be like if they had never met?

For Mando it's easier to say bc...... The show events would happen as usual

For Sarai I believe the galaxy would've given a very different path of life - she'd most likely rejoin the New Republic as a Rebel fighter, running jobs as Ghost Storm once again. And I don't think she would've become a Jedi Knight.

Dom x Carlos

1. If they get married, who proposes?

Oh, Carlos absolutely. Man has been whipped since Racoon City.

2. What’s the wedding like? Who attends?

The wedding happens in 2004, and it's very very private in a courthouse, where only the closest of their friends attended. Those two didn't want any attention, so only Chris, Jill, and Dom's close friend from RPD Regina were the witnesses. Afterwards they had a quick photoshoot, a lunch, and called it a day.

3. How many kids do they have, if any? What are they like?

Three kids + one adopted from the Dimitrescu castle! Their youngest is a very curious bean that doesn't know bounds and is always getting involved in some activities with her parents or her sisters. The middle one is the more artistic child who joins a musical school. She's also the one who has the biggest opinion of things, much to the surprise of her parents. The oldest one is the negotiator and daddy's daughter, she has Carlos wrapped around her little fingers. Contrary to popular belief, she's not the "serious" one or anything, that's the youngest kid. This one has a silver tongue and a wicked sense of humor.

Their adoptive daughter Alona is a former maid of Alcina who survives the horrors of the village and gets adopted into the Oliveira family after everything. She's rather shy and more closed off, used to a completely different lifestyle, but she does take a liking to the family, especially the kids. Dominique and Carlos fought hard to keep her happy and safe from the hostile world.

4. Do they have any pets?

Nope! Though they sometimes wish they do. They tried to raise some less maintenance requiring pets to teach some responsibility into their kids, but their lifestyle didn't leave much room for that.

5. Who’s the stricter parent?

Definitely Dominique. Carlos is the one who goes easy and gives in much easily if his girls blink those pretty brown eyes, coupled with some tears, whereas Dominique sees right through them. She recognizes those patterns and she won't be fooled so easily. Carlos, if he could, would spoil them rotten, especially considering his own upbringing. Dom is a little different.

6. Who worries the most?

I'd say also Dominique? She's used to holding all four corners of the house, keeping tabs on everything, so long-term assignments that take her away from home are always stress-inducing for her. She fully trusts Carlos and knows he will do the right thing, but that's just who she is.

7. Who kills the bugs in the house?

Both of them!

8. How do they celebrate holidays?

They always try to create a memorable experience each year for their kids, no matter the circumstances. They also make it a rule to always invite their friends and always have a day off, especially on Christmas. Other holidays are more flexible, but Christmas? You better be ready for that invite, it's sacred to them.

9. Who’s more likely to convince the other to come back to sleep in the morning?

Carlos. Dominique is used to the early bird regime, and her marriage with Sam didn't change much, considering they were both police officers. Carlos is the type of person to stay in a little longer in the morning, and he'll make sure his lovely wife is right there by his side, because she deserves the extra rest after everything she does for the world.

10. Who’s the better cook?

Dominique! Girl is used to making food for herself and others, this doesn't change in this relationship as well. Carlos acts as the support by helping with side tasks and little jokes that make the process much more fun.

11. Who likes to dance?

CARLOS. Look at that man and tell me he doesn't like to dance. Don't get me wrong, Dom has the moves too, but Carlos lives for that stuff. One of the kids' best memories are secretly watching their parents dancing to Frank Sinatra in the middle of the living room as Carlos sang to Dominique.

No sense burying the lede:

One month shy of four years after joining up, and with something like 570 columns, features, blog posts, and blurbs in the rear-view, today's my last day at The Ringer. Barring some unforeseen Friday afternoon news, my final piece will have been about the Knicks' best-laid plans not quite panning out the way they intended. Let it never be said that the basketball content gods don't have a sense of humor.

I'm grateful to have spent four years sharing a masthead with some of the best writers on the Internet, and to have carved out a niche on what I've felt was, pound-for-pound, the best NBA team in the business. I'm grateful I got to co-host a podcast with two great friends for a while, to everyone who took the time to listen to it, and to everyone who said (and still says!) nice things about it. I'm grateful to have gotten the chance to be part of the Ringer Union, and to have played a small role in trying to make a company I loved a little more fair and equitable.

I'm grateful to have gotten the opportunity to grow and develop as both a writer and analyst. I feel like I'm better at this job than I used to be, thanks in no small part to the freedom and support I've enjoyed. I'm grateful to everyone, past and present, who has made The Ringer the sort of place where someone like me could level up.

I'll still be writing about the NBA on the Internet. (And talking about it into a microphone again, too.) I'll say more about that soon. Right now, the only thing I want to say is: thank you.

And then Lila starts explaining the situation in Paris. Of course, she adds a few stories about how she was akumas’ target or how she helped Chat Noir (weirdly she doesn’t talk much about Ladybug). It’s that one of really rare times she’s not lying (well, not that much). And how Damian reacts to it?

Damian, Done with Lies™: Do you ever stop lying? Because this, all of this, is absolutely and utterly ridiculous.

Cue Lila wishing she didn’t bullshit as much as she did Damian was just a little more gullible

Anyway.

I don’t know if you remember, but in the first part I said Damian ditched Lila for Marinette (but let’s be honest, wouldn’t we all?).

To clear things up, I kinda wanted the GA students to accompany their penpals throughout their time at school. It’d be nice, right?

So the scene is:

The principal has just announced that GA students have to keep company their penpals while they’re at the GA establishment. Lila’s feeling victorious, this is her chance to get her claws in Damian and his money- I mean, to get to know her lovely penpal. Yeah...

Lila, walking up to Damian, while trying to appear sexy and shy at the same time, and failing at both: So, shall we?

Damian, ostentatiously glancing at her before going to Marinette: Bye

Now, to spice things up, I decided imma get them caught up in a rouge attack/attacked by a rouge.

So somewhere a week in their stay, akuma class is held hostage by one of the Gotham’s criminals.

Because this is Gotham, y’all. You can’t be in Gotham and NOT get attacked some way or another. It’s impossible.

[Choose your villain. I have badass Marinette though, so we all know the winner here]

The moment it starts, Damian slips away and changes into Robin.

Meanwhile:

The class is screaming and panicking.

Lila is probably in the middle of a panic attack.

Marinette’s assessing the situation before striking.

The moment Robin arrives, he gets to witness Marinette, the sweet cinnamon roll Marinette, kicking ass and taking names. Adorable. He thinks he’s in love (and he so is).

Bats come. And they’re met with the dude dealt with and trembling in fear of a petite girl with pigtails, who’s standing next to him and a lovestruck Robin staring at said girl.

A sight to behold, truly.

Also, what if Damian accidentally texts Lila instead of Marinette after the attack? And Lila is so happy, because she thinks her plan’s finally working. But ohoho, does Damian have surprise for her.

Damian: Are you sure you’re okay? The attack was really dangerous, You’re sure you’re fine?

Lila, thinking ‘yes, fucking finally. Almost thought you have no feelings’ : Oh, it was so scary !!!!!! 😱😰😨😨😨 [just hella lot of emojis. She seems like that kind to me] I was absolutely terrified!!!! I’m just glad that it’s all over. After the attack Robin came up to check up on me. He even flirted with me, i think he likes me... Too bad I already like someone else 😘😘😘😘😘😘

Lila: But don’t worry, dami!!!! I’m a little shaken up, but overall okay.  But if you want to we can facetime so you can make sure I’m not injured ;*

Damian, having to physically restrain himself fro throwing his phone against the wall: ...

Lila is not stupid in this, okay? A pathological liar and a manipulator, yes, but for that you need brain and she has one. Much to Damian’s surprise. And yeah, sometimes she lets her imagination get the best of her, but she’s cautious enough and has proof to often back her up. 

She knows she screwed up. Her penpal doesn’t believe her and isn’t scared to call her out.

Due to him bluntly uncovering her lies, some of the classmates see through the blinds she’d put on their eyes and get suspicious of her.

If you have mercy on them, make them come to Marinette and apologize.

Sealab 2021 #46: “Butchslap” | March 14, 2005 – 12:15AM | S05E02

Sealab has reached a saturation point where all of it now feels like it’s just rehashing/retreading old gags. Debbie goes through a Chickmate-esque transformation but this time she wants to stop being a slut and start being religious. There’s a subplot where Sparks finds out that Marco used to be in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids, the band from the eponymous TV show from the 70s. It’s a show Sealab has already mined once before for the decent “Swimming in Oblivion” and the pathetically awful “Return to Oblivion”. So, the characters previously identified as Adam Reed and Matt Thompson, the creative duo behind Sealab 2021 are just playing their original 70s’s Hanna Barbera Show selves. To muddle things even more, they bring in the tentacled producer from those episodes to do some light meta humor involving the Cartoon Network. And, in yet another callback, this episode is credited to mcheshpants420 among other writers.

Neither story resolves in a satisfying way and just serve as a vessel for mostly pathetic jokes. They aren’t THE WORST jokes Sealab ever did, but literally nothing is good here. The only thing that I sorta liked was Tornado Shanks unceremoniously dropping his Southern accent, and it being referenced in the episode. It’s not that funny of a joke but I guess I prefer it to them just quietly changing the character. I don’t know WHY, though. I think my brain might be dying, and sometimes I suspect that we are all living in hell.

The Brak Show – Volume 1 DVD (February 1, 2005)

It is extremely weird to me how hard it is sometimes to find high-quality cover images for DVDs. Like Amazon just gets rid of the high-quality JPG when a DVD goes out of print now I guess and just waits for a customer image to get uploaded instead? You know what I’m talking about? We need to get the lost media wiki on this. We need a hi-res product imagery archive. Sell them as NFTs. I don’t fucking care.

Anyway, this is a really good release as far as adult swim DVDs go. Decent extras. A handful of Cartoon Planet and Brak Presents the Brak Show Starring Brak, and Brak Does the News bits, and fun commentaries and stuff. I appreciate they put a little effort to make a fun thing Brak fans would like. Also, the DVD has an alternate version of one of the episodes presenting the American Mom in an episode that originally aired with the British Mom instead. That’s because they put the episodes in--what else? production. order. I would elaborate on this more but I did it somewhere else and... I’m so tired.

Good fuckin' news. On the 27th, Adult Swim will finally be able to air Futurama again!! With them losing Family Guy, it's awesome to see them regain another Fox toon they helped save to fill the gaps! King of the Hill came back last month, too.

I actually just learned this today and that IS great news. You see that weird clip where the McDonalds logo is in the corner instead of [adult swim]? What is going on with that? Has [adult swim] started just turning into every other network now with voice-overs on the credits and obnoxious bugs and whatnot? I should probably keep up with stuff like that.

Some Robot Chicken tidbits for you: The Armageddon sketch was indeed written for Harrison Ford but they couldn't get him, I know because of a bump from the time that SKEWERED Harrison Ford for his supposedly high standards. Why they didn't just change it to a celebrity they could get, or to Bruce Willis or someone that would actually make sense in an Armageddon parody, that I don't know. Chicken tidbit #2: The live-action nerd was played by Greg the Bunny himself, Dan Milano.

WOW! I remember at first thinking this was MC Chris, but the delivery drifts too far out of his orbit so I knew it wasn’t him. Who doesn’t Seth Green know? Also, the fact that it isn’t Harrison Ford doing the voice baffles me. It’s such a bad performance, I figured it must be him. According to the Robot Chicken wiki it’s Mark Hamill, so if he’s on purpose doing a bad performance AS Harrison Ford that’s actually pretty brilliant of him.

Selena: The Series

I binged the show in a day and these are my thoughts. Fair warning, this is long.

The Good: After originally being disappointed to hear that they weren’t going to be using Selena’s vocals, I’m glad that turned out not to be the case. It wouldn’t make any sense otherwise. I really liked that they showcased some of her earlier songs, the ones that aren’t very mainstream and would only really be known to those who have digged into Selena’s discography. Like Sukiyaki, Amame, Besitos and Ven Conmigo.

The wardrobe department. I guess the outfits had to be on point because the hair was not. We’ve seen many recreations of Selena’s iconic outfits, but not really any from her early years and I thought that was cool. I did like that they showcased Selena’s teen years and how she grew up in the industry, as well as how they showed her humorous side.

Hunter Reese Peña. Out of the entire cast, I feel like his casting as Ricky Vela was the best. I did also like the connection of Seidy Lopez playing Marcella and also being the friend with Selena at the mall in the 1997 movie - though I wouldn’t say she was perfectly casted.

The Bad: I feel like most longtime Selena fans unanimously agree that the casting is not the best. The actors are lighter and thinner than their real life counterparts and it’s super disappointing to see. While Christian Serratos is of Mexican heritage, she is very light skinned compared to Selena. I once watched an interview with Suzette where she said Selena resonated with the Mexican-American community because we could see ourselves in her and because she “wasn’t a guerita” or light skinned. And even as someone who is a guerita and lighter than Christian, that’s still a statement that rings true for me, and this casting choice does not reflect that. So I can only imagine the hurt and disappointment felt by our brown and darker skinned brothers and sisters in our community.

This ”Chris” and “Selena” was not believable as a couple imo. I’m really supposed to believe that these two people are secretly in love? Compare Christian Serratos and Jesse Posey portraying the relationship to Jennifer Lopez and Jon Seda’s and try to tell me there isn’t a stark difference. I completely believed the 1997 version of Chris and Selena were very much in love and would move heaven and earth to be with one another. 2020 Chris and Selena? It feels forced and more like an awkward high school relationship.

Okay. I did like that we got some family backstory and got to know Los Dinos a little more. And I understand that it’s a family band, but when “Selena” feels like a secondary character in a show called Selena: The Series, there’s a big problem. There was far too much focus on Abraham and AB. A lot of it could’ve been condensed or cut down and I think we still would’ve gotten the gist of it anyway.

No pizza. Like seriously, there was not one slice of pizza in the whole show. I would have loved to see a scene where Chris and Selena first said “I love you” in a Pizza Hut like he described in his book. However, this Chris and Selena ain’t it AND I’m also bitter that her family can apparently use his name and their love story for a profit but Chris got sued when he tried to do it himself.

The (Really) Ugly: Those wigs. Were. Terrible. The wig for Chris in particular. Literally WHO thought that looked good?? Why not have the actor grow his hair out or just cast someone who already has long hair? Burn it. Toss it in a fire.

Overall, this feels more like Selena: For Mainstream White America. For those who have maybe caught the movie on tv once in a while but that was it, or heard “Como La Flor” once or twice in passing. Casual fans. Then there are those of us who are old enough to remember hearing when she passed, who have watched her performances countless times over the years. The ones that Selena means so much to and who remember and see her as a person and performer and not as a character on a tv screen. Don’t get me wrong, I love spreading her music to a newer generation but it could’ve been done so much better.

6. Does your character have recurring themes in their dreams?

Basil doesn’t remember a lot of his dreams (the nightmares thanks to the taint are a lot more prevalent anyway, so maybe it’s better if he can’t remember), but if there’s one commonality, it’s a tendency to be in vast, open spaces.

11. In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been?

During the battle at Adamant, the moments following his decision to stay in the Fade to hold off the Nightmare so everyone else could escape. At the time he felt like it was absolutely the right decision, but once it was defeated and it was just him there, alone, trapped, it started to sink in what he’d chosen and he started to freak out (and that got… no better from there until he managed to get back out). So I guess really… the entire Fade experience. He’d take his first trip to the Fade over that one any time.

12. In what situation was your character the most calm they’ve ever been?

Some time after the above experience, standing on the battlements at Skyhold, gazing out at the scenery, Blackwall’s arms wrapped snuggly around him. The world is not yet saved, Corypheus is still out there, but in that moment, there is peace. Everything lately has been feeling a lot more manageable and doable for Basil, despite there still being a world in crisis. He keeps getting through all these other massively shitty events, he can do this too.

17. What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?

A stuffed halla! It was a pretty crude, handmade thing, but he loved it to pieces (rather literally, ha). Basil was always obsessed with real halal as a wee bab, and so someone in his clan made it for him as a gift (also to hopefully encourage to stop running off to chase them if he ‘had one of his own’ lmao).

21. If something tragic or negative happens to your character, do they believe they may have caused or deserved it, or are they quick to blame others?

If it really is his fault that something happened, Basil has no problem taking the blame for something, he wouldn’t try to put in on anyone else. He’s fairly honest, though maybe a little harder on himself than he should be when it comes to ‘blame’ (and that likely stems from feeling at least partly to blame for what happens with Tamlen and the eluvian…). But he’s also not the type of person to think that bad things are what he ‘deserves’ for choices he makes/has made.

22. What does your character like in other people?

Just to pick a couple… Ambition, even if the persons goal seems small or silly—he likes people who want to do something and therefore go out and do it. A sense of humor, people who don’t take themselves too seriously.

23. What does your character dislike in other people?

Again, stick to a couple. Constant negativity, people who seem determined to see the worst in everything. Dishonesty, seeing no problem with lying by omission (NO ONE @ him about his love interest lmfao).

26. How does your character behave around children?

Children tend to really like Basil. He’s goofy and fun, and doesn’t make them feel lesser just because they’re small. He’s not necessarily the best with babies because what are you supposed to with those, but he likes to roughhouse with older children, and always does the voices when he reads them stories. He’s that ‘cool uncle’ persona, haha(insert that pic of chris hemsworth holding his child up by the ankle).

28. How quick or slow is your character to resort to physical violence in a confrontation?

Pretty quick, lmao. Basil is not known for being a diplomat. It’s not necessarily his first course of action, he’ll give talking it out a chance, but if it seems like things are gonna come to blows, he doesn’t see the point in delaying it, and it’s better to strike first.

30. What does your character find repulsive or disgusting?

He’s mostly being dramatic, but Basil claims that a lot of Fereldan food looks like sludge and doesn’t taste much better—or taste like much of anything, really. Secondary dramatic answer is Blackwall without a beard lmfaoo.

33. In the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve?

Willing to improve, though that’s something that developed over time. He was a bit of a wild child, so he didn’t always take being reprimanded well, but having the uh, huge responsibility of, ya know… having to stop the Blight then thrust upon his shoulders shaped him up real good, real fast. Because go figure, he doesn’t know everything and he’s not invincible (contrary to what every young person tends to believe lmao), and if he wants to stay alive/save the world, he can’t continue on in the way he has been. He’s open to suggestion.
