ES21 japanese volumes - part 1/??

Sooooo I recently got my hands on the complete Eyeshield 21 manga series in Japanese and as someone who's only ever read the story through fan-translations on dodgy websites online, I wanted to go through and "live" blog about it, so to speak. I thought it would be interesting to see the changes between the languages and where the fan-translations likely fail with mistranslations. (No shade btw, I think fan-translations are great both as a hobby and the fact that they're doing their work for free, but it's also a reality that the vast majority of fan-translators are amateurs, many of whom don't fluently speak the language they're translating, so there's bound to be mistakes!) Also, I wanna know what they're originally saying because I’m nosey <3

I know the official English translation by VIS is allegedly pretty decent, bar the toning down of some things (like Hiruma's language lol) so if you've had the chance to read the official version, feel free to chime in on differences with the fan-translation that I'll be referencing, or potential differences between the Japanese version too!

And finally, while I am half Japanese and grew up there, tragically my language skills are imperfect. I speak it, but my vocabulary isn't very robust, so I do look up the definitions for a lot of words and kanji, as well as more nuanced connotations or references that may go over my head. Bilingual problems <3 But again, it's good practice for me and I think it'll be kind of fun!

Right off the bat, this page. What it’s saying is essentially, “You better come out and play (in the) American Football match!” But because Japanese syntax is different from English, it’s structured like “American Football Match you better play!!” The translator was confused by the final line, because in Japanese a way to say ‘participating in a match’ is by using 出る which means to ‘go out’— sort of like ‘go out (into) the match’. Maybe a better option would have been ‘get the fuck out and play!!” or just “you better fucking play!!”. It still keeps the overall sentence structure which sounds awkward in English, but at least it gets the meaning across.

(I’m not gonna get into every little mistranslation btw, because that would take forever, but I felt that was a good way to explain how frequently there are little mistakes like this.)

Look at our boy <3 So as you know, we start our story with Sena Kobayakawa timidly seeing if he passed his high school entrance exam into Deimon High School, with his childhood friend/older sister figure, Mamori Anezaki lending moral support.

In the third panel, what Sena says is actually “I feel like I’ve been praised for the first time in 10 years—” (maybe they changed it because that was too pathetic 😭) Then in the fourth panel, what Mamori says is more along the lines of “And to think you were a total mess in math and English… It’s all thanks to Mamori-sensei!”

Also I want to point out that Mamori is a little cheekier in the first few chapters. Like obviously still kind and nurturing in personality (her name is literally ‘to protect’), but she teases Sena and feels more like an older sister than like, an overprotective mom lol. Miss that for her 😔

Then along comes our kind senpai to accost our clueless protag...

There’s no mistranslation, but I just wanted to mention that the way Hiruma talks in Japanese is so funny? Like in panel 1, he’s speaking with a dramatic affect, he sounds like some sort of npc in a jrpg giving the protag a quest. And then in panel 2, his ‘of course!’ is this shortened, slang version of the word that sounds almost cute and very modern after the previous line. Hiruma uses a lot of slang in general, though I can’t say if any of it is like, common or used by teenagers (of the time, anyway) or if it’s just Hiruma-isms.

I can’t believe Hiruma managed to physically emulate the experience of contracting some shady internet virus…..

Something that’s done with Hiruma’s dialogue a lot (it’s done w/ other characters too, but most often with Hiruma) is where there’ll be a word/term in kanji that means one thing and pronounced in a certain way, but then the furigana (so the phonetic pronounciation, basically) next to it says something different. Now, in some stories (like Berserk for my pals out there), this is used to create poignant, layered meanings in the text. In ES21 however, it’s mostly used for sports manga flavor. For example, in the above page in Hiruma’s spam fax message, he uses the word 作戦, which means tactics or strategy, and is pronounced: “sa - ku - se - nn�� さ-く-せ-ん. But the furigana next to that word reads タクティクス which is quite literally just the English word ‘tactics’ spelled phonetically in Japanese lol (aka a loanword).

He does this A LOT, most frequently with sports terminology, where the kanji are pretty dense, technical terms, and the furigana a loanword version of the same meaning. (though now that I think about it, it might also be because while パワー (power) and スピード (speed) are frequently used and well known loanwords to the average Japanese person, タクティクス (tactics) might be more obscure, so the kanji is there to like, clarify the meaning? 🤔)

Also I love all the early 2000’s tech we see in the early chapters— flip phones and fax machines galore! Even within the later segments of the series, the flip phones start to magically get more advanced, but in my heart ES21 takes place in like, 2003. If they ever do a remake of the anime (which is unlikely to say the least) I’d want them to maintain the early 00’s vibes. It just wouldn’t be the same if everyone had smart phones.

Skipping ahead a few pages, I remember this bit never really made sense, but I got enough of the general gist that I kind of shrugged and moved along. But!! the translation is just making stuff up here?

So for context: it’s Sena’s first day at Deimon, and Mamori (who’s a grade above him) advises him to make proper friends this year, since he has a history of only ‘hanging out’ with shitty bullies who used him as an errand boy.

In the English translation, Sena seems to get a text from a mystery number, telling him to pay up for a bet we never saw happening. He goes to meet up with the texter, who we assume at this point is a previous aquaintence, since he had Sena's number? Maybe one of those bullies that Sena hung out with from middle school? They make Sena go and get them an unspecified thing, but because Sena ran there and back so quickly, they don't believe that Sena actually went, and is lying when he says they were sold out. They drag Sena to a small shed to beat him up, and in the last panel of the third page, Sena says that he's been their errand boy since kindergarden?

So for a number of years I was under the impression that the Ha-ha brothers knew Sena from before the series, even though that never seemed to come up in the rest of the story.

But in the original version, Sena is actually getting a text from Mamori-- which makes sense because it was established earlier that his cell phone is brand new and he only has Mamori's number in his contacts. Mamori's text says: "If someone tries to make you run their errands, tell them 'let's decide by rock-paper-scissors!'" Sena is understandably kind of embarrassed by this, and mutters to himself that he's not a kid anymore.

Then it cuts to Sena being picked on to be an errand boy lmao. Presumably this is because Sena just looks like an easy target to bullies, not because of any previous aquaintence rip. The blond bully tells Sena to go buy them bread (which might sound weird, but Japan has a lot of tasty snack breads that they sell everywhere). In panels 2+3 of the second page, Sena timidly tries to bring up the rock-paper-scissors thing, but is intimidated into giving up and just doing what he's told.

Again, they don't believe that Sena actually went all the way to the school store and back with how quick he was, so they decide to beat him up in the shed. As he's being dragged, Sena says, "It really was sold out! I've gotten used to being an errand boy since kindergarden, so I've just gotten fast--!"

So yeah, if there were any other people who've only read fan-translations and were confused by this bit, there you go.

There he is!! Our boy Kurita!! I do miss when he occassionally had like, more human features lol. As much as I love his big ol' smiley face, it does rub me the wrong way when the fat characters (because Komusubi falls into this too) are the only ones with anpanman faces.

Aw look at Sena feeling inspired! Honestly I really love how Kurita is Sena's first friend he makes in the series, and that vibe in the early chapters where it's just Sena, Kurita and Hiruma is so much fun <3

(P1: Kurita: "Way to go Sena!" Imaginary Coach: "It's thanks to you that we could participate in the Christmas Bowl!" Mamori: "You're so cool Sena!"

P2: Mamori: "You have to make the first move!" Sena: "U-um!"

P3: Sena: "Can I... be the team shumu*?" Kurita: "WHAAATT!? O-OF-OF COURSE!")

*Ok soooo I don't fully understand what a shumu is lol, or how you'd translate it to English. The word itself apparently means 'person in charge' so? The fan-translation just calls it the manager, but based on something Hiruma says later, I get the impression that the shumu and the manager are technically different roles? But when Mamori becomes the manager later, she takes on a lot of what are allegedly 'shumu tasks', along with Hiruma, so idk. If anyone's read the official VIS translation, feel free to chime in on how they did it, because I'd be curious to know!

That being said, adorable of Sena to think he could have handled that responsiblity at all 😂 our boy has many talents, but being smart and organized is not among them.

Ok fun feelings are over, it's time for pain.

(Sena looking at his contact list, having just added Kurita's number, then wham D: )

The three bullies from before were waiting to get revenge. The dialogue is a bit different in the original. Juumonji (the blond one) actually says: "That fatso a friend of yours, Sena? Tell me his contact info-- if you do that, we'll let you go." To which Sena timidly and reluctantly agrees. Then Kuroki (the dark haired one) says: "But do you think one bat will be enough? With that brute strength..." In the final panel, Juumonji says: "It's better with just one, since we're gonna call the police beforehand." Togano (with the glasses): "The police?"

Juumonji: "As long as we get him wrapped up in the fight, it'll be fine. We'll say we got these wounds from being assaulted by the fatso with the bat -- We'll get him disqualified from the American Football tournament." One of the others: "Ooohh, smart!"

I guess the overall sentiment isn't that different, but knowing that the initial demand was for Sena to hand over Kurita's contact info with the promise that they would spare him if he obeyed-- and that at first he agreed-- makes his change of heart feel even more significant.

(Sena: "IF YOU'RE GONNA HIT ME, THEN HIT ME!!! I'LL NEVER TELL YOU (Kurita's info)!!!")

Tell 'em Sena!! A part of me sort of wishes the story maintained this serious story beat instead of undercutting it with humor in the next panel (not shown here) but at the same time, ES21 is overall a more lighthearted, comedic story which I love it for, so I don't think I'd like it getting too angsty. I'll always have Berserk in my corner if I want some actual angst lol.

Lol I do love the little details Murata included, like Kuroki taking a swing at Sena as he's biting Juumonji's hand but then totally missing in the fourth panel because Sena's so fast. Also I'm always on the lookout for the kinds of stuff Hiruma buys, snack wise. We know he loves sugarless gum, obv, and drinks coke based on that one time he bought some for himself, Kurita & Sena, but what else are in those bags? I want to know!!

I've been having so much fun recently just manifesting stuff to make my life easier lol? I wanted to share some cool things I manifested super recently.

1 - Not needing a lockdown browser when taking a college exam: so I was scheduled to take an exam on my laptop/iPad for my class and the thing is, I have a Chromebook laptop. I didn't want to have to go to the campus library to take the tes because my Chromebook didn't support the lockdown browser AND my setting up the lockdown browser app on the iPad was sketchy and frustrating as hell. So before the test was announced I affirmed like a few times and visualized my teacher saying smth like "you won't need the lockdown browser for the test btw"...anyways that same morning the teacher let us know that we did need the lockdown browser, which went against my visualization, and it made me panic, BUT I managed to quickly calm myself and just reassured that I'd be fine for the exam. The day of the exam, I downloaded the app on my iPad and was basically shitting myself cus I was scared that it would all fuck up...but guess what?? The exam launched WITHOUT the lockdown starting, and it processed perfectly!? I also visualized my desired score range for the exam before I submitted it (canvas auto-grading) and I also got that manifestation as well!! It just goes to show that even if the manifestation seems fucked up in the moment, if you want it then it'll happen lol!

2 - Better health / not being sick: Basically my sister spread her germs all around me and one night I literally FELT my throat start to hurt and I panicked (I have been hospitalized before for a cold and I am traumatized fr) and so that night I reassured myself that I wouldn't get sick and that my throat doesn't hurt. I slept well that night but the morning after I woke up stuffy and the normal cold symptoms showed up. Again I was scared that I had just failed the manifestation and wallowed all day...but I do remember slightly just telling myself that I was not sick. Anyways, today is the day after that, and I am perfectly FINE. No nose stuffiness, no cough, I feel completely normal. This is so spooky to me cus I've never healed from a cold so fast.

3 - Package from AliExpress coming wayyyyy early: If you've ever ordered from there you know the shipping can lag a ton if you choose a store with minimal reviews...and I did that. However, I just affirmed that the package would get here quick. 5 Days later and it's here!! It arrived today lmaooooo 😭😭

Hopefully this post finds people who like some more slice of life "average" manifestation stories lmao. I manifest shit daily and so easily, it really is just a matter of practice. (⁠ ⁠ꈍ⁠ᴗ⁠ꈍ⁠)

(pt 2) YES, brotherssss!!! Oh, the fact that Andrés is so selfish and narcissistic otherwise just makes the hermanos bond even more special to me?? it hits different than if they'd just been relatively normal/good characters, idk. And yes that's such older brother behaviour of him!! I will tell you some happier observations of mine this time. One of my favourite "older bro" things Andrés does in the series, when he and Sergio sit down to drink together, he ALWAYS pours wine for Sergio first. In the bella ciao scene, his wedding scene in s4, even s3 he literally wakes up Sergio to come have breakfast with them, which means he didn't even allow either Martin or Tatiana to start without his hermanito lol. It's a very sweet minor detail that melts my heart. I can totally imagine them in the Toledo house, pretending they don't know each other but then andrés does little things like these, serving Sergio first or preparing coffee for his brother just the way he likes it before making his own cup :') OH, the feels. Yes, I agree, I definitely think the Bella Ciao lyrics are foreshadowing, and that is exactly what happened in the end. (I have been struck by that thought too, more than once 🥲 it's heartbreaking isn't it? especially when you consider that oslo/moscow had their loved ones with them when they died + a funeral. nairobi had a funeral too. tokio had rio with her before she died. but andrés had none of that, sergio was miles away and then ofc they had to escape leaving him behind... don't think about the guantanamera scene lyrics in this context too. Poor Sergio :( (pt 3) Btw sorry for how long this got!! Please feel free to put everything under a cut if you want 😅 I'm just out here rambling like there's no tmrw. Back to the happier note (omg we really just keep switching between angst and joy) I love that idea!! Yeah, I can definitely see them having that as an inside joke, something that only they share from their childhood memories, it's very sweet! Sergio "I don't dance" Marquina WILL dance if his big bro requires, and it makes me a puddle everytime. Somehow he has the most stiff yet adorable dance moves ever, I loved those moments we got. Andrés mirroring Sergio's moves in the guantanamera scene never fails to bring a smile to my face. Unironically, I used to watch that scene so many times during the pandemic days. I was not doing too well but those few seconds seeing them smile and laugh and dance despite everything used to give me such comfort :D I was glad to see your reply (and once again, completely understand, hope you're taking care of yourself <3) Thank you for putting up (and being so kind) about my rambles, glad you like them! Poor Sergio, he really is in denial at the beginning, huh, insisting Andrés should get into the tunnel... and that's another thing that gets me, because truly there was no time, waiting for Andrés and not blowing up the tunnel basically meant getting captured, and yet Sergio who's usually so cautious and always aware of every risk just refuses to see it. Andrés must get into the tunnel and to safety! And then he gets more and more desperate when it really becomes apparent that it isn't going to happen :(

Oh, I definitely agree! Part of the appeal of big brother Andrés and of their bond imo is the contrast between their usual demeanor and how they behave around each other. When they're together they're a big brother and a little brother, you know 🥺🥺 OOOH thanks for sharing! I don't know if I ever noticed that (if I did I forgot) it really is sweet! I'm smiling a bit at the thought of Andrés not allowing Martín and Tatiana to have breakfast because the most precious hermanito in the world is not there yet! I love that thought! And Andrés mirroring his moves makes me smile so much!! It truly is a comfort scene and I'm glad it helped you through those times (man, it was surreal).

Btw, I've made more progress, as in finished Operation Starfall and Path of Legends storylines! Spoilers under the cut thou!

So, I REALLY enjoyed both storylines, and while Penny being Cassiopeia was well... easy to predict, I still enjoyed learning her motives and all. She just wanted to save her friends from getting expelled. Despite never letting them see her before. That's... such a nice story. And Clavell is such a good school director, oh man why did people suspect him of being a bad guy, such a good guy ;V;

And Arven, MY BOY, he is precious and wonderful and I love him and I love his doggo I still need to learn to remember the name of, Mabostiff? Maybe. But it was so wonderful and I actually cried. Gently, as I didn't want my sis to hear me :D IT'S SPOILERS TO HEAR ME CRY OK-

And god. I am mad at Sada. So mad. She hears Arven's voice for the first time in years AND SHE DOESN'T CARE????? To be fair, she somehow felt robotic in that call as well so like, either it's a plotpoint, or time ran out to polish out that cutscene. Why does she need the Scarlet Book thou, there's nothing that she'd need from it really... does it? I need to check the book again I guess.

Koraidon's fully upgraded outside of battling now and I LOVE THE TRAVERSING SO MUCH NOW AAAAAAAAAH THE FUN BEGINS- ahem!

I also did the final exams at school and well... I failed Math the first time around, at 3/5 points lol. I am so so embarrased, but then again, the statistic type of info of Pokémon moves and such isn't exactly my strongest knowledge so... I guess it was inevitable for me to fail it. I passed it second time around thou, with 4/5.

Rest, outside of Art exam, which ALSO was 4/5, went with perfect scores :D First round was the same, so I'm happy about that! Esp. with history, I was sooooo interested in the lore and I'm so glad I managed to answer the questions right. WITHOUT any cheat. I relied on memory :D

Corals Monthly Update #3

HOHOHO!! FIRST BLOG POST OF 2023 AND I’M NEARLY 2 WEEKS LATE!!! Super sorry about the long wait! I’ve had tests recently and only got off of school like a few days ago haha! So! Welcome back to my monthly update on what I get up to in my life! Now, before we get into January, I, for the final time, have to tap back into the previous month. Curse past me for thinking the 21st was a good day to start doing these!!! ANYHOW! The rest of December and early January were a BLAST! But lemmie talk about what happened after I made the last update. CHRISTMAS!! I had a great time with my family and I got a bunch of fluffy things cuz that’s apparently the easiest thing to get me now. We also had dinner on Christmas day with my Grandparents like every year. Over-all that day was very fun! I even got drunk playing Minecraft which was funny for everyone in VC. The next few days weren’t anything exciting, however my brother Finn had a bunch of his friends over for his birthday which was chaotic. But the excitement picks back up on the 28th! BECAUSE SKYE AND VI CAME OVER FOR NEW YEARS!! We’ve been planning this since like, June, so it was awesome seeing them again! We did all kinds of stuff from shopping to playing some awesome games! (I am now chronically addicted to Ultra Kill thanks guys)

We even did some baking! Here is our glorious creation I dubbed, “The Jimothy”. 

Overall the rest of December was awesome! I’m glad I got to celebrate New Years with my besties! Overall, I’ll give it a 10/10! Best way to end 2022 >:D Here’s a few more misc photos hehehhehe

NOW! FOR JANUARY!! January started off still vibing with the guys. However they would then go home on the 4th which sucks. But before that, both Skye and I spent a lot of money on consoles that are almost as old as ourselves. They bought a fucking PS Vita and I got a motherfucking Wii. We both had fun with em and I even helped Skye homebrew their Vita since I wanted to put PebbleCD on it (I failed but shut uuup) But yea, sadly the guys had to go and it sucked! But I still had a great time. There’s a bit of a gap here right up until the 12th, where finally, the big event happened. CAREY IN THE HOUSE WENT LIVE!! I had finished it a few days prior but figured I’d build up hype by posting it on that Friday. AND IT SURE WORKED! The video blew up faster than any of my videos before it! I am so happy the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I also love how the only main complaint that was common amongst people was that Careys exaggerated accent was annoying which, yea can’t argue against. THERE’S ALSO THE FACT THAT MR WULF AND I WERE ABLE TO ARCHIVE THE ORIGINAL EDDSWORLD BANG BOOM SPLAT PROJECT FILE!!

This all started because Wulf wanted to edit the credits for his arcade BBS build since I was helping him out and since I said SWF modding is hard he just casually asked Psycosis and after seeing his WIP cabinet, gave Wulf the FLA! So a current “BBS arcade version” is in the works by yours truly thanks to both the generosity of Psycosis and the fact that Mr Wulf is a fucking mad man who could stop global warming in a month if he wanted to LOL! For those outside of Ireland or have a different name for em, Mock exams are, well, exams that act like a practice run for your finals. They’re always harder than the actual finals and are usually graded stricter too! Why? Who knows! The Irish education system is a joke. I feel like I did somewhat ok in them anyway? Some were definitely worse than others but overall it was more of an inconvenience. I did get this really cool art piece out of it however.

Exams would later spill over into February and like I said at the start, I finished and got off school a few days ago. Overall, this month was about a 7/10. It was pretty good, especially in the Eddsworld department, but mocks and other personal tid bits I didn’t mention here dragged it down for me. Since February seems to be mostly me being off school, I hope this month will be better haha! Only time will tell! Thank you for reading! And I hope to see you next month!! OOf tysm! But i couldn't help but cackle when you mentioned dark academia cuz you are talking to someone who had never read or seen harry potter until their last year in high school TvT . I just chose this name cuz I wanted to be the library keeper for that castle library in beauty and the beast :3 I used to love reading books and during my break time I used to go to the school library to read. After the pandemic I haven't been able to read much due to my school reopening so I try to read fics on tumblr and ao3 to satisfy my brain.

Anyways!! I don't mind walking at all if it means I get to give you a hug.

I am about to graduate soon and last year didn't really treat me kindly cuz once my grades started slipping everything started going to hell and a lot of things happened that easily made it the worst year of my life and my upcoming exams are drowning me in anxiety. I had never failed in my life until now so facing my own failure was one of the hardest things I had to do and my relationship with my parents and my self esteem was at rock bottom. It was a very hard thing to try and bring myself out of my depressive headspace , but I am doing better now mentally and trying to do better academically! Your fics, blurbs, random posts everything made me smile and laugh through some of the hardest days of my life so thank you so much for helping me this way.

I am so so sorry for trauma dumping on you all of a sudden but this is something I have been wanting to say for a long time but I have felt kinda hesitant yk?

And it's all good!! I'm so glad to hear you're doing better now, and I'm happy my fics were there for you in some of your toughest times!! Failure is one of the worst things in the world, it strips you of so many integral pieces of your self-identity. I really admire you for picking yourself up and trying to come back from all of that.

For me, horrible as it is, I think failure is one of the most important experiences a person can have. It teaches you so much about who you are, how you think, and what matters most to you--and it becomes a touchpoint for building back a better self.

When I started in the BNHA fandom, I was a Bakugirlie for specifically this reason--I identify super strongly with his arc, where, high off his own success, he comes to UA and experiences a chain of failures and shortcomings each more horrible than the next. But he never spirals--he lets those things become lessons and builds on top of them and grows into arguably the most heroic character we have in the series right now.

So this is all very Bakugou Katsuki of you lol, and I hope you come back just as strong as he does!! Lol. Sending you all of my best vibes!! ✨✨✨

a random tuesday night but i think i owe you one for updating regarding my quick rant last wednesday. I think i passed my quiz, not that you asked, but yeah. luckily it was just about the first lesson which i studied a week earlier (should've focused on that one tho)

later that day, i went to go see my boyfriend. he bought me a happy meal with the posion ivy toy and it was the cutest. we spent the weekend up until today, together. kinda miss him already or is it just because i am attached with the idea of him being around for a few days.. idk

right now, i am trying to study about tissues.. good thing the professor already told us how the exam would be.. better use it to my advantage..

anyway.. with the ranting part

i saw a few of my batchmates who are already almost done with their life in college and here i am trying to get through another exam with the professor that failed me last year. i am 3 semesters behind and i want to get over this already. maybe this is the universe's way of giving me back my karma for being mean in other ways, maybe i deserve it.

i just hope this setback would still lead me in fulfillment. i just want success in whatever shape, way or form it may be. i want to grant my purpose in life.

i don't know if it's the right time to deactivate social media for my own well-being or what..

one thing's for sure though, i am certain i will get there.. if by any chance, i am not then i suppose i died earlier..

Oh this is a big question for a boring adult, I think if I'm wealthy enough to not have a job would be the best hahaha

In HK we have this job title called daughter/son which we most envy of, it means they have rich rich parents so they don't need to work or just have a very simple job, they don't ever need to worry about money. I have the same surname as the richest man in HK I wish I'm his long lost granddaughter lol

I used to dream of a lively, challenging job with a nice office is amazing but I've tried it and I hate it, mostly because they don't pay me enough and I never have enough sleep to perform my work perfectly, I can't handle the stress anymore. Besides who cares about how nice looking the office is, it's just a job.

the exclusivity/less content thing worked pretty well for YG during 2nd gen and we all know how YG can’t let go of their 2nd gen heyday. from the style of music they make to the way they market their idols, nothing has changed. that’s a big problem as we’re now moving into 5th gen and they’re just doomed to fail unless they adapt. they NEED to start putting out content, whether that’s music or variety show appearances or youtube. the kpop audience has changed as well and they now expect different things to 2nd gen. why would new fans choose a group that has no content vs one that uploads 3x 20 min videos weekly? i’ve seen SO many people say that the reason they don’t stan bp is bcs they rarely release music and have long hiatuses. their current strategy is literally turning away potential fans yet they refuse to change

yeah i do think it worked for bp in a way bcs i think it made them stand out in a time where the kpop industry is sooo saturated, so i kinda see one upside to it. i think a less content/releases strategy *can* work nowadays if it’s done (somewhat) well and with a bit of effort (i think it’s a good fit for aespa and sm doesn’t do it too badly), but i think it would not work for a yg group bcs a) yg don’t know how to do well lol they think it’s enough to hardly ever release content and are not smart about when they do release content, and b) i don’t think it would fly for a new group bcs that would make them resemble bp too much in the eyes of the gp, which is definitely not good (it was fine for bp bcs 2ne1 were not active/big when they debuted) 🤷🏻‍♀️ and ngl i don’t think it affects them that negatively bcs even though yes, some ppl might be put off by it, i also think it indirectly contributed to bp’s rise to fame so although i hate it and think they should stop, i also cannot lie and say it didn’t do them any good

sebastian for the headcanon thing (because what else would i choose??)

I was hoping his name would come up in my inbox LOL I'm glad that my reputation of being a Sebastian Fan Blog is still going strong!!!

Headcanon A: realistic

Due to his father's 'involvement' in his education, Sebastian has to retake the bar exam (even if he didn't technically have to/it couldn't be proven that blaise tweaked his bar exam passing, sebastian would still retake it). So, after he brushes up on his education (aka graduating from law school for real this time) he takes the bar exam...and fails it. So he has to take it again. I feel like this is 100% realistic and that many other fans have this headcanon too, given Sebastian's mindset at the end of aai2 and the fact that it's normal for people to have failed the bar exam like. Multiple times and still succeed in their careers. I looked it up and apparently in Japan the limit for taking the bar exam is 5 times, but I like to think Sebastian passed within 2-3 attempts :)

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

Listen the only reason this is unrealistic is because capcom will never ever mention Sebastian and Klavier in the same statement but I firmly believe they knew each other at Themis and Sebastian was not a fan of the Gavinners music At All. I am also a Gavinners Sebastian truther btw (read aquilamage's gavinners sebastian au and you will understand) and the fact that Sebastian dislikes the Gavinners music while still actively participating in the band is so funny to me

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

When Sebastian goes back to school he has a hard time trusting his teachers because all of his old ones accepted bribes from his father. Even while Blaise is in jail Sebastian struggles to believe that his teachers are being genuine towards him, to the point where his suspicion develops from just grade-focused to judging their attitudes in general. Every comment a teacher makes towards Sebastian has him overanalyzing & second-guessing. Honestly when Sebastian goes back to school it's a bit of a disaster at first, because of how determined he is to become a prosecutor he jumps into it rather quickly without fully processing his school & father related trauma. His first year of school is the absolute worst and he struggles a lot and he debates dropping out etc etc...the whole "do you really think you can survive without me" bs Blaise had told him really hits hard at that time ( but he perseveres!! And he does become a prosecutor eventually!!! See it's a happy ending :') )

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own

Yes I am aware that Sebastian and Badd have never met before in canon. Yes I still think that they are Family and have a very nice father-son dynamic. It's canon to me :')
