With All The Money in The World, You Could Never Buy This Girl

A/N: This is yandere!prince's introduction!! Had a HUGE case of writers block, and I kept scraping idea after idea, but I finally finished it!

Summary: Auctioning off item after item has been your life for a few years now. But you never expected to be at the receiving end of a bid. Much less from a prince.

"Going once!" Silence filled the room. "Going twice!" A pin drop could be heard from a mile away. "Sold to number 36!" You yell out enthusiastically with a grin on your face. Your eyes scan over the audience: a mixture of low and high ranking nobles from all over the world gathered together to participate in an annual auction where rare, controversial and borderline illegal items are sold to the highest bidder.

Whether its ancient artifacts or deadly weapons, they would be displayed and sold to the highest bidder. Because of the nature of the auction, not just anyone can attend. No. Only those who have been personally invited by the organisers can participate. After all, they can't risk word about their activities to spread to the public. You yourself have been the auctioneer for the last 3, going on 4 years. It's an odd job, but it pays well enough. Plus, it's interesting to see people of high class bid on such strange objects. It's fun seeing people you recognise from newspapers or have actually seen with your own very eyes before.

These auctions seem more like a way for people to flaunt their wealth rather than purchase items they desire. You're not convinced any of these people give more than a second glance at these items after receiving them. They're probably left in an empty closet to collect dust till the owner remembers their existence.

"Our 10th item of the night is..." You ramble on about the item. Its history, relevance, what makes it so unique, and so on. Its your job after all. Make it seem like its actually worth the price you're about to give it.

"The starting bid is 800,000!" Already, you see many paddles with numbers rising up. Each one increasing their bid at an insane pace. You can barely keep up with them as the bid gets to a number that would put you in a coma had you seen it at a market. "... Going once!" You've said those words more times than you can remember. You don't even see a point in it anymore. Nobody ever bids again anyway. "Going twi–"

"500 million"

The room goes silent, and you along with it. Well, that's a first. Usually, people never bid after you already said 'going once'. And 500 million? That's much higher than the amount the previous bidder gave. This person must really want this item–

"For the auctioneer"

You see mouths open and eyes widening. If they're gasping or whispering, you don't hear them, you're too focused on the bid you're sure you must have misheard. You look at the person who just spoke. Dark brown hair, tan skin, dark brown eyes. He looks oddly familiar.

That's when it hits you. He's a prince, and an extremely wealthy one at that. You've heard about his country before. He comes from a rich kingdom that puts other royalty to shame. No wonder he could name such a high price so nonchalantly. It's probably pocket change to him. Though, now that you think about it, you dont know much about him– wait, that's not important right now! You snap back to reality and make eye contact with the prince. He has a wide smile plastered on his face, dimples showing clear as day.

You decide to play off what he said as a joke, it probably was anyway. Nobody would actually pay that much money for you. "Sorry, sir" you chuckle "But I'm not for sale". You look away and instead try to focus on continuing the auction, but before you could even get another word out, he strikes again.

"800 million"

Your eyes widen. Did he just jump by like 300 million? You let out a nervous scoff and try to reason with him. "Sir, I already told you: I'm not for sale." His eyes squint, as if he's only now processing what you're saying. "Hmm..." His voice echoes as the rest of the guests wait to see his response, the item up for grabs long forgotten.

"2 billion?"

Okay, seriously, what is wrong with him? "Sir, once again, I am not for sale–" "They mean yes, of course!" You turn your head at the sound of a gruff voice interrupting you loudly. It's the organiser. Your boss. "They're all yours, your highness!" He bows slightly. His eyes dart towards you, and he gives you a firm stare, like he's threatening to do much worse than whatever the prince has planned.

You gulp, frozen in place as if you're in a trance. People turn and whisper next to each other, with each one growing louder and louder. But you're too shocked to care. You try to calm yourself by breathing in and out, but it's no use as the prince's voice echoes throughout the auction hall. "Wonderful!" His smile ever present on this young face.

He gets up from his chair and starts approaching you, seeming eager to claim his prize. He stands below you as you bring your gaze down to face him. He extends his hand forward to you, beckoning you of the stage. You hold your breath as if you're about to dive, and with shaky, hesitant hands, accept his help down the stage.

His hold is gentle, soft, like the warm summer breeze. It's not aggressive or crushing like you thought it would be. He calmly leads you outside the auction hall. The moon's glow illuminates the many jewels adorning him, rubies as red as blood. He never stops smiling. It feels mocking in a way. While you stress and worry about what's to come, he remains calm and collected. Of course he does. Whatever happens to you will be his doing after all. Even as he leads you to what you assume to be your doom, you can't help but notice how beautiful he is. A seemingly perfect complexion, and brown hair that shines golden...

...

Is that seriously what you're focusing on? This man just bought you, and you're calling him pretty? He's about to make you one of his servants or worse, you should look at him with disgust! And yet, you can't bring yourself to.

Deciding that looking forward instead is better for your mental health, you turn your head and notice a carriage in the distance. You assume it belongs to him. When you finally reach the carriage, you're surprised when he opens the door for you before you can even react. You turn to look at him with confusion, but he simply smiles with his teeth and gestures for you to get inside.

"Well, don't just stand there, go on." You hesitate a bit, turning your gaze back to the inside of the carriage, you enter and sit on the edge of the seat. He closes the door and enters from the other side. When he sits down, you try your best to keep as much distance as you can, but he does not seem to understand what you're doing and slides closer to you. You jump a bit when the carriage starts moving, earning a small chuckle from the prince.

"Are you alright?" His voice sounds so sincere. If you didn't know any better, you'd think he actually cared.

You should watch what you say. This man has much power, and you are completely at his mercy. Any action from here on out should be thought out and careful–

"Interesting thing to say to someone you just bought." Oh wow. That thought didn't last very long, did it? You bite your lip and shut your eyes. God, he's gonna kill you. Probably say something about your attitude first. Then he'll kill you. But instead, you earn yourself another melodic laugh, making you turn to face him once again. "You're funny. You know that?" Okay. Not the reaction you expected, but you'll take it! Silence falls over you both as the carriage continues its trek. It doesn't last long though before the prince breaks the silence.

"What's your name?" You turn and give him an incredulous look. Is he serious? He doesn't even know what your name is? He just fucking kidnapped you in a way, and he never bothered to learn your name first? As if reading your mind, he comes to his own defense. "Hey, don't look at me like that! I know who you are, of course I do...but the auction organisers are very secretive about their workers. I've only ever seen you at some of the auctions." He answers playfully, he really doesn't understand how messed up this situation is, huh?

"Y/N," he repeats. "It's a pretty name. Wanna know mine?" Not really, you wanna say. But you hold yourself back this time. Who knows how patient he'll be. "Sure," you say simply. "Zahir." "Okay." Silence befalls once again. But just like last time, Zahir is quick to strike up another conversation. "Do you have any hobbies?" Okay, this is officially making no sense. First, a prince buys you, and now he's asking about your interests? If he's just planning on making you his servant, he has no reason to be asking. Yet, you decide to humour him for a while.

"Y/N..."

"Yeah, sometimes I..."

It's been a long time since you've spoken so much about yourself to someone. Then you realise. you've spoken so much about yourself. You forgot that he's literal royalty. You've just been going on and on about what you like, what you dislike, your past, your family, how you got your job. You forgot you were even talking. You've most definitely bored or annoyed him by now.

You stop talking and actually take a moment to look back at him. You expect to be greeted with indifference or hate, but instead, you see him looking at you so intently. As if he's hanging onto every word you say. Then, you see him tilt his head as if confused. "Why did you stop?" He seems so baffled. "Well, uhh... I was talking about myself so much." You look down. "And I didn't wanna bore or bother you anymore." You feel a soft, smooth finger lift your chin up, Zahir gazes into your eyes. "I could never get tired of hearing you speak."

You feel a warmth creep up to your face. Why do you feel like this? He's basically your captor. You can't. You have to stay alert. The carriage comes to a halt, and you're quick to back away from the prince's touch. "It seems we've arrived." He tells you to wait a moment as he exits from the door on his right. After a few seconds, the door on your left opens, and opposite you is Zahir. He takes your hand to help you out of the carriage, but he doesn't let go. Instead, he tangles his arm with yours and walks down a path leading to an enormous palace. You can't hide the look of admiration you have over the intricate designs that cover the stone walls. But while you admire the palace, Zahir admires you. He looks at you with such fondness. He'd gladly sell this palace if it meant he got to see a smile on your face.

When you approach the Palace doors, two gaurds are quick to open them before you're even a foot before them. If you thought the outside was impressive, the inside is much more luxurious than you expected. Red and gold accents adorn the white walls all around. A grand staircase in the centre of it all. When Zahir steps inside, dozens of maids and butlers form lines to greet him with a bow. So you'll probably work alongside these people from now on.

"Everyone, listen closely!" You can see the intense looks on everyone's faces.

"I have returned with what I had travelled for. Now, begin the preparations! My and Y/N's wedding shall be a great one!"

You think you just got whiplash from how quickly you turned your head to face him. "What?!"

This can't be happening. It just can't. He leads you up the stairs, but you aren't even paying attention to where you're going. It's the same trance you felt when you first met him. Dear lord. Is this your life now?

"Did I not tell you on the way here?" He asks, but not in his usual playful manner. "You are to be my spouse!" He grabs your hands and presses a kiss on them when he notices the horrified look on your face. "Fret not; I will ensure your happiness for as long as we live." He brings up one hand to caress your cheek, and plants a kiss on your forehead. He turns on his heel to face the stairs. "Shall we?"

Wanted to finally try some new games/ genres while im hiatus-ing. Started playing Pikmin 1 a few days ago. I've played the 4th demo, but as a gamecube kid, I thought starting with those would be more fun. And it has been fun! Slowly figuring things out… losing… so many pikmin… the horrors…

And then I wanted to try a visual novel/ dating sim. Found a cheap one on Switch, used gold points so I only had to pay like 60p (pennies) It uuuhhhh… yeah, yup. Very typical… anime… tropes… right off the bat. I don't know how to feel, but I've rolled my eyes a few times 😂

I wanna see it through though, but ffs I've been so tired and busy… And December is gonna SUCK!!! I have so much cover at work 😭retail sucks.

You know what, fuck it, I have to speak my truth! (this is gonna be a rant, so anyone who actually likes assassin's creed revelations and/or the secret crusade, be warned or maybe don't read this at all)

remember how altaïr talks to king richard at the end of ac1, and richard is like "[humans] come into the world kicking and screaming, violent and unstable. it is what we are. we cannot help ourselves."? and how altaïr answers "no. we are what we choose to be." and how that ACTUALLY has meaning bc he himself was "violent and unstable" at the beginning of the game but he has learned and is now CHOOSING to be a better person who cares about others and humanity at large? remember how his calmness and gentleness was something that he ACQUIRED over the course of the story?

and remember how in revelations they then suddenly had a PRE-AC1 altaïr say about the first of his targets "no man should pass from this world without knowing some kindness." and be all wise and calm and collected during a nice little chat with al mualim, who suddenly acts all fatherly? (like, this is suddenly supposed to be a positive relationship? what??)

also, during the confession the target says to altair: "you put too much faith in the hearts of men, altaïr. [...] humans are weak, base, and petty." and altaïr answers: "no. our creed is evidence to the contrary." KJASJFJDKL???? like, it’s almost insulting how close this exchange is to the one with richard. you know, the one that was actually earned after a whole game of character development. like WTF??? cool congrats now that development means nothing. like, apparently that was just altaïr reverting BACK to being the exemplary assassin who understands and believes in the creed that he was apparently just born as. (i also hate how having a young inexperienced altaïr saying this implies that altaïr's faith in humanity is a sign of naivete instead of a sign of the wisdom he has gained after being confronted with counter arguments for a whole game, and also something that distinguishes the assassins from the templars who use humanity's supposed wickedness to justify controlling them like in AC1, but whatever)

altaïr’s development in AC1 mattered BECAUSE he is not NATURALLY a good person, it actually said something about humanity's capacity for both bad AND good and how humans don't have to be forced to be good through mind control bc they can by their own free will choose to be better when taught how and when allowed the freedom to grow. but no. apparently altaïr has just always been calm, wise and gentle. and he just sort of forgot about that during AC1 bc…. ? bc of adha?? bc of abbas???

oh don’t get me started on the whole abbas thing. (it doesnt even make sense that abbas is so hung up about his father and "his family’s honor", like what about the whole point of al mualim not allowing parents to be close to their children bc it would make them weak? like, my dude, you’re not supposed to HAVE any family aside from the brotherhood)

they used the throwaway character that had like 5 lines and made him into altaïr’s main antagonist in revelations… like, abbas wasn’t supposed to be this ONE dude who had personal beef with altaïr, he was just supposed to show how while altaïr’s revered by many, a lot of his brothers also hate him, bc 1) altaïr is a shitty person at this point and 2) bc there’s no real feeling of community and family in this version of the brotherhood, but just a pervasive sense of competition and jealousy — these assassins don’t care about their goal of safeguarding humanity bc they’re too hung up on petty squabbles and divided by rivalries (you know, the things that made malik hate altaïr even before solomon’s temple and that he overcomes in the end which enables him to forgive and to reconcile with altaïr so they can work together and stop al mualim? (you ever just think about "we are one. as we share the glory of our victories, so too should we share the pain of our defeat. in this way we grow closer. we grow stronger." and cry? bc i do. all the time. malik, the man that you are))

and now abbas is altaïr’s childhood best friend turned lifelong enemy?? like, bowden bent over backwards to come up with an explanation for why altaïr is an arrogant ass at the beginning of AC1, when the explanation is right there: he was raised to kill without asking questions and was constantly praised for how good he is at murder, which resulted in him becoming arrogant and disregarding human life. like, it doesn’t have to be some shakespearean family feud type shit. and guess what, this "simple" explanation actually plays into the story’s themes, who’da thunk!

(like, abbas might not have been a "fleshed out" character in AC1, but he had a specific function and now that function is gone. mr bowden, mr mcdevitt, you know characters are allowed to simply exist to tell us something about their worlds and the systems they live in and sometimes that’s more important and also more interesting than having every single character have a detailed backstory to explain all their behaviors, right?)

with all of this revelations loses all nuance in regards to the levantine brotherhood and also the creed in general. like, altaïr being a master assassin at the beginning despite being a terrible person and not actually understanding the creed is a criticism of the brotherhood and the creed itself. like, it said something about the order that someone like altaïr was able to get that high in rank, simply bc he's good at killing, which also tells us what is considered important in the al mualim era assassin order. when you make altaïr’s arrogance the result of his personal conflicts instead of how we was raised by a brotherhood that only valued one's ability to kill, you lose that characterization of the assassin order itself!

and by suddenly making al mualim a semi good "father figure" you also downplay his manipulation of not only altaïr but all those under his care. (altaïr says something about al mualim being "as a father" to him exactly twice in the codex, but he doesn’t mean by that that he WAS a father to him, what he means is that he was the CLOSEST THING he had bc HE DID NOT HAVE PARENTS, not because his mother died in childbirth and his father was executed when he was young btw, BUT BECAUSE IT WASN’T ALLOWED, like his parents actually lived but weren’t allowed to be close to him, he says he came to view al mualim’s "weak and dishonest" love as enough and even better BECAUSE HE HAD NOTHING ELSE, BECAUSE AL MUALIM ISOLATED HIS ASSASSINS FROM THEIR FAMILIES. al mualim "loved" him bc he was good at killing people for him! hm, i wonder if this could be trying to say anything about cults and indoctrination and the inherent contradiction in fighting for peace and free will by taking children away from their parents and raising them to become killers?? like, altaïr wasn't ~the special orphan boy~ taken in by al mualim bc his father died a hero's death, it was "the way of the order" to have al mualim be the closest thing to a parental figure for everyone to ensure absolute loyalty! altaïr saying al mualim was like his father is not supposed to make you go "oh, he must have actually been a good guy for altaïr to consider him a father", it should make you go "oh that's kinda fucked up that he considers the dude who made him into a killing machine and who manipulated him a sort of father figure"!)

and then in revelations they suddenly portray that relationship as positive and healthy??? like, it would be one thing to give it some nuance by delving into the psychology behind al mualim’s "love" and maybe showing how al mualim did care about altair in a complicated, fraught sort of way (like, you know, there’s a lot of interesting things you could say about al mualim at several points addressing altaïr as "my child" in AC1 and how that parallels Garnier referring to the people he drugged and abused as his "children", and what that says about how the templars view the people who they say they want to save and in whose best interests they supposedly act (in any case, al mualim doesn’t use that phrase because he has any real parental feelings but rather to patronize and to invalidate any objections, like in a "mother knows best" way))

but they even fucking DARE to parallel that relationship with that of altaïr and darim in revelations, by having the reflection in the puddle of darim hugging altaïr showing altaïr hugging al mualim…. like their relationship wasn’t inherently abusive but just tragically cut short because al mualim was just "corrupted by the apple"… like WHAT???? so it’s not the very real problems like grooming, manipulation and indoctrination and the hierarchical structure of the brotherhood itself (all of which are antithetical to the assassin ideology), it was just the evil apple all along. great. that’s DEFINITELY a lot more interesting.

god im sorry i really dont want to spread negativity but this is driving me INSANE. like, somebody please tell me im not crazy bc i feel like somehow most of the fandom is in agreement that revelations and the secret crusade have better storytelling and characterization than ac1.

SPEAKING OF WHICH, can we talk about how, even IF we completely ignore AC1 and treat revelations altaïr as his own character…. the narrative still doesn’t really work?

basically, the whole point of his story in rev is that "he gave his whole life to the brotherhood", this obsession led to him not using his time with his family which has him ending up dying alone in a dark library and this in turn makes ezio reevaluate his life choices…. except. he doesn’t? neglect? his family? or whatever? like, his devotion to the assassins is sort of painted as this tragic flaw that leads to a lonely death bc it supposedly comes at the cost of his family, but… his wife has joined the assassins, (at least) one of his sons is in the brotherhood and even when he goes to protect the assassins against the mongols, he takes his family with him (except for the son who stays behind bc he has a family of his own and who, ironically, ends up dying bc of that)… like, you can’t describe altaïr as a good husband and father in the database and have his son tell him that "everything that is good in me began with you, father" when they say goodbye, and then want to make us believe that he put his family behind the brotherhood and that that is a character flaw that leads to his tragedy.

because you HAVE to have a character’s tragedy be the result of a character flaw. like. that is how tragedies work. otherwise it just becomes tragedy for the sake of tragedy which is… boring bc it has no purpose. and we know it is SUPPOSED to have purpose bc ezIO FUCKING QUITS BEING AN ASSASSIN AFTER WITNESSING IT!

it’s like they want to have their cake and eat it, too — they didn’t want to actually make altaïr a bad husband/father, but still wanted to make his life a tragedy where he loses his family which is why instead they outsource all responsibility to abbas who now has to be the reason for ALL the deaths.

like, they try to make at least maria’s death kind of sort of the result of altaïr’s rashness or whatever but like… these guys KILLED THEIR SON and TOLD HIM THAT ALTAÏR HAD ORDERED HIS DEATH. like, altaïr losing it in response to that is not rash, it’s fucking logical and justified! if anything the scene made me angry at maria for trying to stop him. like, GIRL, he was YOUR son too??? but god forbid we give female characters actual real emotions, she has to fill the role of "voice of reason who dies for altaïr’s man pain" i fucking guess.

like, it’s this weird mix where his tragedy is simultaneously painted as his own fault but also not really bc abbas is the one responsible for all the shit that happens. it just… it just doesn’t really go together.

the only way to make his story make sense narratively and to give it actual purpose is by looking at it in the context of ezio’s story, bc the things he sees in altaïr’s memories are supposed to be a revelation (ha!) to ezio specifically. and i guess that’s maybe the crux of it all — altaïr’s story in revelations was conceived of first and foremost to support ezio’s story and development. which is probably also why many people maybe don’t notice bc, having skipped ac1 and started with ac2, the majority of people mostly care only about ezio and only really appreciate altaïr’s story in as far as it serves to push ezio forward. (tho i’ve also seen a few people say that ezio is also written kind of weird in rev, but i’ve never really been an ezio girly myself so i can’t speak to the truth of that)

like, altaïr dying alone in the library doesn’t really have to make sense for his character, i guess, bc it’s only really supposed to be a cautionary tale for ezio.

so, i guess, for once, they actually had a MAN dying for another man’s character development, which is pretty woke actually. ubisoft, i take everything back jksdsfjhgdsahfhsdhfghfdsgjhsdgjh

I think I've decided that I want Ena to be one of the elves taken during the "plague" in denerim during the first blight. Assuming DAV takes place in 9:49, he would have been 8 or 9 I think I need to check my timeline. He's my Surana's cousin, and the younger brother of one of my other Rook's (Revari isn't rook in my canon worldstate, but they are still a Mercar. They left for Tevinter at around 13 when their magic developed). Anyways him being my Surana's cousin is probably something he himself never actually learns (sadly). He doesn't even really talk about being from Fereldan at all, and I can't really say for certain that he would even remember his last name before he became a crow. Plus, he transitioned (kept his name tho) and so did his only sibling, so the likelihood of them recognizing each other is so painfully low.

Anyways, one of the Tevinter mages in the alienage claimed Ena had the plague, he gets shipped off. I haven't decided whether he was bought by the crows or scouted after somehow escaping (this one is becoming far less likely the more I think on it); either way, he ends up in the crows by the time he's 9. He gets his face scar like right before joining, so the first few months are even worse.

His magic developed not long after, and tbh this is the only reason I think he even survived. He was never really good at fighting in regular combat, but he was pretty good at getting the fuck out of the way when someone was trying to kill him. I think the Crows take better care of their mages (I can't remember if this is canon or a head canon but whatever) because they're a better investment. (Even when they become abominations, as crows are known to do occasionally, I do think generally they receive "kinder" treatment)

He meets Viago somewhere around age 10 (they have around a 8-10 year age gap, so Viago would be 18-20. At least going off of Viago being 34 to 36 in Veilguard. Everyday I pray that bioware will release and actual timeline bc god I am tired of figuring this shit out 😭), and immediately decides that he is going to be loyal to this guy in particular. I don't know why he decides this, but he's like 10 so it was probably some stupid reasoning.

At first Viago is annoyed, but I think after a certain point his brain kicked in and he went "wait having another crow (even one so young) who is insanely loyal to me is an AMAZING investment on my end". Teia isn't around to be his moral compass, so at this time in his life at least 9/10 of his decisions are made to further his own goals. This is around when he starts actually taking an interest in Ena, and keeping him around as an investment. He starts teaching him poisons, and building up Ena's poison resistance. Ena is notoriously loyal as hell and twice as stubborn so Viago 100% plans on using that to his advantage. I think Ena's magic developed not too long after this so he immediately becomes more useful lmao

Depending on when Viago became Talon, I do think it may be possible that Ena was one of the first to become a full crow under his leadership. If Viago is ~30 in Eight Little Talons, he had to have been a Talon for a few years, so he was probably made one in his late 20s I think? Teia is mentioned being one of the younger talons, and she's ~28 in eight little talons I think, and I'm pretty sure she's been a Talon for a few years at this point. Anyways, assuming Viago became a talon between 26-28, Ena could have been one of the first full crows under his command, being made a crow between 16-18. However, timelines like this make my head hurt so this may be completely inaccurate lmao

Somewhere between Viago realizing Ena is a good investment and Ena becoming a full crow, Viago becomes annoyingly fond of his little protege. He ends up bailing him out of trouble FAR more often than he would like. Ena is painfully good at becoming the annoying younger brother figure in anyone's life, and Viago is NOT exempt from that.

the really beautiful landscape/skyscape animation in makoto shinkai's works tends to be the big thing i see focused on and that is understandable and deserved like the weather and lighting effects are unREAL but i do think we should also appreciate how absolute insane the plotlines of his original movies get. at least two movies with in universe catastrophes with major ecological implications. the guns and explosions. theres that one movie i havent seen yet with the guy who turns into a chair (?)

hate to be a hater on the main … but this season of ted lasso excels (once again) at team dynamic and the found family elements and i think the finale absolutely nailed that, i cried, i laughed, it was perfect on that. now as for the individual stories and relationships… yeah, let’s leave it at that

i do prefer to call him hades i will say. in the timeline anyway. being emet has become a defining part of his identity since he lost himself in it for such a long time but its time for him to become his own person again. reconnect with who he truly is. & while he may still go by it here & there (the name may be tarnished by his actions, & obsolete due to his world being long gone, but he can at least try to absolve it of his personal misdeeds done in its name) i think hilde would call him hades. & yknow. with average everyday people he would probably just have them call him aidoneus
