✨ Spooky Recs✨

I read a lot of fanfictions... More than I am proud of. I thought I should recommend as I go before I lose sight of their existence among the sea of my favorites.

Since past few days I have been craving for some creepy, unnerving fanfics that will keep me restless and awake at night. I remembered my favorites and wanted to read more of the kind so I looked up, patiently going through each story that sounded compelling. I also revisited old stories for nostalgia's sake.

Of course, rare as they are, in Naruto fandom no less, it's even harder to find a horror and mystery fic that is well written, not dropped under 2 chapters, and really keeps your attention.

I've rated 4 aspects of the work -

Writing – I don't judge writing based solely on the grammar and vocabulary. I also consider how the author expands upon a subject, if they are consistent with the facts, if they are able to keep the attention of the readers regardless of their creative writing skills.

Characters – If the characters are well-developed, in their given character, if OCs have any real significance to the story.

Plot – How gripping is the storyline, if the story sticks to its original plot, the structure of the story, plot holes.

Flow – Mother-of-slow-burn, slow-but-steady, steady, fast, I-am-speed

When one of the greatest medical-nin in the world goes missing in what should have been a simple delivery to the Land of Spring’s Hidden Snow Village, the rest of Team 7 must reunite to find her. But even the most powerful team of shinobi will find themselves challenged in a battle against the supernatural. With Sasuke's return, vengeful ghosts of the past will test him and his love.

My thoughts : One of the best stories I've read in a while, and top tier SS stories. I read this in one sitting. I never listen to music while reading, preferring silence, but for this one, I suggest you do as the author says. Also, keep some tissues and food with you. This story is major in mystery and minor in horror but otherwise full of SS fluff.

Flow: Steady, if a bit confusing (but that's why it's mystery)

“Oh,” says Naruto, “well, its sort of like that. Except in this village, the story has a way more darker ending – it basically goes like this: the girl and the guy plan to run away together. The guy steals a bunch of treasure, and stashes it away. But then, when he goes to get the girl at her village, he kills her and decides to run away with all that money. But then he is killed by the guards of the girls village and now they're both dead and the treasure is hidden away somewhere”. Sasuke stares blankly at the blond, “that story makes no sense”.

My thoughts : I know you must be thinking the same thing as Sasuke – "makes no sense". I did too, but it's a pretty cool short story. It lies on the funny, creepy side that slowly starts to lose its funny touch. SS makes stupid mistakes later on but it could be because they are MCs. The ending is very ambiguous. It's not my favorite mystery but it is something. Enjoyable read but not something I will pick again.

Kakashi is suspicious of many things about Haruno Sakura. Too many things about her don't make sense, with too many incongruous explanations.

My thoughts : Author of this story just summarised Pre-Shippuden in less than 4k words and made some tiny changes to it. Not much though. One of my favorite gen fics yet. Read it if you haven't yet. You'll feel more sad than thrilled tbh. But worth it.

Flow: I-am-Speed

Breath mints : silver_shot || T || AO3 || SasuSaku || Comedy-Mystery || Post-Canon || Ongoing (maybe)

Their home no longer exists with the life it once had – in fact no settlement thrives anymore; they exist only in a snapshot that contradicts time itself. Families within their own homes sleep in a slumber that they cannot wake from. Those that were chatting on the street prior to the event simply drop their heads and remain unresponsive.

My thoughts : I picked it up for Mystery but I stayed for Comedy. But of course that's not to say supernatural elements in this story is not it, but it sure pales in comparison to effortless humor in this story. Lee and Kiba pair is something you don't see often but they get along too well here. Charactisation is on point as well. SS angst! + NS angst (but it's downplayed)

The Curse : sincerelyLen || T || FFN || SasuSaku || Horror || Post-Canon || Ongoing

Team 7 is unexpectedly assigned an S-Ranked Mission involving an unsolved mystery of 10 years. An eerie adventure that will test their teamwork, strengths, and greatest fears. Do you believe in Curses?

My thoughts : My all-time favourite horror Naruto fanfiction. To me, this sets the standard of how mystery and horror elements should be handled. I have never been able to get this story out of my mind even it's been years. Perfect charactisation of Team 7 with Smart-yet-Stupid!Sakura, I-can-fight-aliens-and-reanimated-corpses-but-keep-ghosts-away-from-me!Naruto and I-dont-get-paid-enough-for-this!Sasuke. I especially love OCs here. They kinda reminds me of Pillars from KnY. You must read this story, loosely based on Zombie apocalypse + curse concept.

Silent High : Istoria || T || FFN || Gen || Mystery || Post-Canon || Complete

A bit of the Silent Hill series mixed in with Naruto. Trapped in an illusion whose rules are unknown, they struggle to find answers before darkness consumes them.

My thoughts : One of the best mystery fanfictions I've read. I especially loved how this story handled Genjutsu in the best possible way it could without it turning into some cliche, ghost story. Though really, this story has shown what my greatest fear actually is. I will never be able to leave my back open to a wheelchair. This story has simple writing yet it gives you creeps with the twists and turns. A must read one because it is unlike any other in this list.

Silence of the Damned : Daystar Clarion || T || FFN || Gen || Psychological Horror, Mystery(?) || Pre-Shippuden || One-Shot

When Naruto wakes up to a dead body in his bathroom, he begins a quick spiral into madness.

My thoughts : Listen to Halsey's Control while reading this. Quite chilling, deals with mental issues and morbid but in a fascinating way. It gives a new meaning to Dark!Naruto, but one that actually makes sense. I never saw the ending coming... I had something else in mind and I was convinced it would be, but nope. Here's a sequel to this One-Shot (Uzumaki's War) which I never picked up.

To the Victor : Letta || T || FFN || NaruSaku || Psychological Horror || Shippuden || One-Shot

Naruto loses the fight and Sakura is a trophy of war.

My thoughts : A very twisted NS, if you squint. It's not horror but it might as well be... it is still a disturbing story to see from the eyes of Sakura. Quite chilling to be in Sakura's shoes. But I love this because it is one shot and I loved the ending.

Your actions don't make you a monster. Your reasons do.

My thoughts : There's a reason why Shino is my favourite team 8 member. In my opinion, Shino is also one of the strongest Shinobi of his generation. His clan techniques are just that horrifying. This story is testament to that. He is so terrible.

She gave him names to kill, in order not to be killed herself. But having blood on her hands was turning out to be much worse than dying. "…There's still round 2…3…4…" When does this game end? She asked. "Don't you see, Sakura?" He said, "It never does."

My thoughts : I read this story a long time ago and have read this twice. Personally, it has the most interesting concept of all stories in the list. It reminds me of Vocaloid series, "Bookmark of the end". Kind of. To those who are thinking of picking this up, go ahead! It's a great book and has one of the best suspense I've read in Fandom. BUT, it has been stopped in mother-of-all-cliffhangers and Author is MIA for 4 years now. But, all things considered, it remains to be one of the best stories I've read.

Everything ends, eventually. Eight years after the war, Sakura's unhinged and Sasuke's obsessed. The fields are filled with corpses.

My thoughts : I read this story right after "The Curse", my favourite. From what I remember, Sakura and Sasuke are both mentally deranged, in different ways. Lots of death and gore to stomach, so not for weak readers. There's no speak of fluff in this one. Zero, Zilch, Nada. I wouldn't call it your classic 'Horror', but it is very disturbing, so psychological horror is more like it. Don't eat food while reading this one. Did I mention how Sakura is mentally disturbed beyond help in this one? And Sasuke is obsessed. If these suit your tastes, go ahead.

what i thought about fear street 1666 (TW! Spoilers)

I loved the 1666, but the 1978 is still the best. Besides, a quick question, I don't know if I didn't get everything right because I only watched 1666 twice so far, but if Nick had already delivered the current generation's serial killer (Ryan Torres), why did he name Sam? because you see, Ziggy wasn't possessed, she of course lived scared to death, traumatized and all, but she didn't become a serial killer, her name didn't end in the cave rocks, after all, she was “free”. Why Nick would conjure Sam's name so early when no one would question after Kate and Simon died and took the blame from everything that happened? Why send a note saying "it's happening again" to Christine when he was the reason it was happening? Other than that, Nick didn't deliver much as a villain lol. I don't think it's the actor because he was well as a Soloman, I think it's because we don't see his villainization(is that a word?)? Like, I've been suspicious of him since 1994, but it doesn't show him being actively evil in any of the movies, just that scene of him conjuring the names and the ending a few minutes before his death with Deena, but I couldn't worry or be scared, you know? I expected him to try to justify himself or something until the cave scene, I didn't feel vilification(again, is that a word?) in the character and i think I should because he's literally responsible for everyone's deaths, he’s the big bad wolf, the true monster under the bed.From 1994 to 1666 I could guess he was shady af but it gave me more “anti hero thats gonna sacrifice himself in the end/// doesn’t want to be a part of this////is a puppet and has no idea what’s actually going on” and what I got was “Good is Evil or whatever” like even when he was talking abt his family, which wasn’t much he should have talked about that, his character should have appeared more, I think it would have been nice if maybe a moralization of the character in that scene where he's chasing Deena, like "Oh, my family has been doing this for years, my brother and mother are important to me, my blood is sealed to the devil since I was a baby Sunnyvale's safety is the most important thing, I do this for peace" very lunatic and a tyrannical even, wich does not in any way justify his actions, but who adds content to him as a villain, especially in a trilogy that had two great movies with horrifying killers and deaths. It just fell flat to me, for the big bad guy to barely even have good action, scarry scenes.

Even his relationship with Ziggy was a bit thrown, the importance he gave her was there for no particular reason, just to make the audience think he's nice and in love and surprise us in the end, which didn't work and it's a tactic I hate, the old trick of wanting to outsmart the audience, something Gossip Girl, Game of Thrones and Pretty Little Liars made me completely despise. I 1000000% prefer a structured and predictable outcome than something that will blow my mind for its lack of sense and meaning. ALSO I wouldnt be bothered if Nick was just evil to the core with no debpt whatsoever. Hell, most Sunnyvalers are! But the thing is that, by trying to outsmart the audience and try to lead us into believing Nick is a good guy, the writer (s) ruled that possibility out. You show him puking at seeing kids dying, him confessing how he didn’t want the “Goode” burden to fall of his back but he had no choice, putting Ziggy’s life over his well being, bringing Christine back to life, warning her about the monsters he’s sending to her town and even showing emotion when seeing her after a long time. NOTHING I said would make Nick any less of a monster who should rot in hell, but it clearly shows several colors and divergency on his way of thinking. And like I said, the writers could have given us evil Nick that played Ziggy’s heart and the entire Shadyside, but it doesn’t add up with all of that, at the same time all of that also don’t add up with the Nick we saw on 1666. If this movies were shot in different periods of time and not at once like it was I would say it was because the writers didn’t know who the bad guy truly was.

I won’t get into this, but someone important should’ve died. Like, bring the nurse back to avenge her daughter. Kill Ziggy (the idea of sacrificing Ziggy and Nick at the end ugh the waste). Kill somebody. This is a horror movie, nobody died. Yall could kill black and asian extras. Yall killed my sister Cindy, but couldn’t kill Ziggy? It made sense, she’d reunite with her sister!

Anyway, I know it sounded like I hated the movie but I REALLY LOVED IT. The actors were all great, the chemistry was there, and although I wish we’d seen more of Sam than just her “ghrghrghrhr” until the very end, I loved how both queer main characters were alive in the end, and how they paid respect for Kate and Simon and how Sara was considered the very first Shadysider (although it was pastor Miller sksks). I loved seeing Simon and Kate’s face there again although it wasn’t really them. I loved that Sarah wasn’t the big bad wolf although I saw it coming and would love to see female rage (like that scene where she was like “If they want a witch, they’ll get a witch gave me chills) but like I said, I prefer prediction than disappointment and I wasn’t (disappointed)with that.

THE END SCENE GOT ME EXCITED I HOPE THEY MAKE MORE OF THOSE BUT AT A DIFFERENT TIME SINCE LIKE THE BOOK WAS STOLEN. Also Cindy is my favorite character she legit showed up on flashbacks once and I cried.

My ranking, for now:

1. fear street 1978 (the best 2021 movie i fear i watched the entire week and made everyone i know watch it too)

2. fear street 1994

3. fear street 1666

i dont this there’s any bad movie on this trilogy btw. all great.

What advice would you give someone who wants to play Pathologic but is also terrified of screwing up really badly because I've played just enough of it to feel like there's no way I can succeed without looking stuff up but I don't want to do that! Just basic tips and/or reassurances if you have any?

Updated: Feb. 27 2021 (since I've finished and am replaying P2)

See, the thing about Pathologic is that it’s not possible to “succeed” like you do in other video games. There’s no happy ending for everyone. In the same sense, you can’t really fail. The game accommodates a wide variety of deaths and mistakes—even in Pathologic Classic HD, you can get a character's ending if you hoard enough medicine by the end of the 12 days, no matter how many people get sick or die. In Pathologic 2, everyone can die, but you’ll still be able to get an ending. Even some of the "bad" endings are fun in their own right. Sometimes, the game will reward you with more content because you failed in the first place.

All that being said, I totally relate to your fears. I’ll start by talking about Pathologic 2 first, since I’m more familiar with it. Then there will be some tips on playing Pathologic Classic HD.

Pathologic 2 is incredibly punishing, both emotionally and mechanically. I’ve seen people adapt to this through 3 different playstyles. I’ll rank them in terms of “least close to the intended gaming experience” to “most close”.

1. Just cheat.

“wrt cheating, as a notorious cheater, id recommend trying to do the game as legitimately as possible regardless! if there are some aspects that you absolutely do not vibe with, even with reduced difficulty (for me that's hunger mechanics), i would say that you can load in items to mitigate this aspect. and, tying in with the second point, if you complete a run this way you can always go back and try it legitimately since you've (sort of) gotten an understanding of the mechanic.” - Onion

If you have really bad anxiety, or just dont have the time available to do the other playstyles, cheating is a way to engage with Pathologic 2′s excellent story. Fiddling with the difficulty controls is allowed. Spawning in endless food for yourself is possible. I can even get you in touch with someone who uses cheat codes in the game regularly to get game assets. If changing the game is what it takes for you to get through it, I think it’s better than nothing. But I’d personally at least encourage you to try an Imago playthrough first. Decide if it’s too difficult for you after that. And again: Pathologic 2 is constantly trying to trip you up. It’s meant to be difficult. Sometimes you’ll fail and the game won’t tell you if you could have prevented it. Just keep going. But like Onion said, cheating works as a supplement.

2. Replay, replay, and replay, until you get it right.

“You can always replay. You have more time than they do. Also save states are your friend.” - Alex

“reload as much as possible, do NOT look things up. your first playthru WILL be bad, and thats good!!! experience it fully yourself first. [and] “reload as much as possible” meaning like: [it] isnt a crime, you can do it as many times as possible. but dont get stressed about doing everything perfectly. its an experience!!!” - Zee

There’s no penalty for using your save states. If you get stuck in a death loop, go back as far as you need to in order to get things right. Hopefully this means starting a day over and using your time more effectively. Personally, I got to Day 7 before realizing I had to restart from Day 1, because I was doing that badly. Trust me, if you’ve gotten one miracle cure and 10 bottles of water by then, you’ll be doing better than I was. My friend Bee had trouble too, and took 92 hours to finish their first playthrough. A replay playstyle takes a LOT of time. But Pathologic 2 is so rich in content that replaying isn’t even as annoying as it could be. And this is also the best way to complete as many quests and save as many people as you want. Whenever you’re scared, just remember: you can always go back on your choices! (Other than the theatre’s death penalties. But nothing can help you with those.)

3. Just go through it.

Again. You’re not supposed to succeed in Pathologic. In the words of the lead translator Kevin Snow, “…I know [Pathologic 2’s] script and this is different from other games: there’s so much story locked behind failure and death. You’ll die, and you can’t save everyone. That doesn’t gate you from story; it gives you more. Resist, survive, but continue.” It’s only when you’re suffering that you experience the story so viscerally. That’s when the choices mean something. Sacrificing your own health or the health of others–saving tinctures for yourself, breaking into houses, killing people, choosing not to help people because you just don’t have time–these are impactful because you’re experiencing the mechanical repercussions of your actions. You are not a removed arbiter of the Town’s suffering. Everyone in Pathologic is having the worst 12 days of their life, and you’re dying right alongside them. Spoilers for Day 4, but I don’t think visiting the Rod and seeing the Tragedians would have affected me so deeply if I wasn’t actively starving for the entire sequence. It served as a reminder that I wasn’t the only one in pain; it was heart-breaking and heart-warming. Which I think is Pathologic at its core.

Try to see your failures in the game as another form of success. You’re experiencing the game as it’s meant to be played. And when you feel bad about all the people you’ve failed, remember that this is all a play. The game knows it’s artificial. You can replay the game after you finish–and feel free to use cheats or lowered difficulties on a replay–in order to get everything right. Your mistakes aren’t permanent! But on a first playthrough, try to tough through the hardships. You’ll have a more fulfilling time.

Other tips

You can use these 3 playstyles in combination if you need to. I let myself die when I feel like I deserved the punishment, or reload when I feel like I don’t. Bee managed to finish Day 11 by lowering the game difficulty in the final stretch. Just approximate the intended gaming experience as much as you can.

As for gameplay guides, I don’t think anyone I’ve met recommends it (at least for Pathologic 2). The game does interesting things with when and where it reveals information to you, often in ways that are deliberately inconveniencing. You want to experience that on your own. I also think Pathologic 2 is relatively good at telegraphing mechanics or quests. compared to Patho Classic. That said, I do have tips that I wish I knew before playing:

Sprint everywhere. I know the town is beautiful. But you’re on a hell of a time crunch. If you finish your quests early you can forage or trade for more resources, or just bottom out your exhaustion bar. Sprinting does not make your exhaustion go up faster, and water is plentiful in the first few days. Just do it! Save your own time!

Save a lot. Even if you’re not gonna die on your way in and out of the Broken Heart, this game is chock-full of choices, down to the resource management. If you waste a swig of twyrine, you’ll want a good save point to reload at. You can load any save point in your timeline, so save as often as you want. Keep track of where clocks are on the map--the game tags these in the building descriptions. (For that matter, keep track of where beds are. I didn’t realize I could sleep at Vlad Sr.’s place, which made me waste SO much time travelling between the Shelter and the Lair.)

Learn the trading economy. Everyone holds items at different values. Even the kids value certain nuts over others. There are also some interesting conversion rates between items, like peanuts to soap to pemmican. Make the most of the items you’re bartering. And for that matter, try to build up a cache of items valuable to little girls, in case you find one with a schmowder. The kid’s caches are valuable for trading too: twyrine can show you the locations.

This is also a good spoiler-free guide to Pathologic 2′s mechanics.

For Pathologic Classic HD, I haven’t personally played it, but I’m under the impression that it’s easier than Pathologic 2 because there are less character perma-deaths and no death penalties. The advice about reloading still applies. Here’s what Ally says:

“id recommend using a spoiler free guide (Bachelor, Haruspex, and Changeling guides) but other than that read the diary and letters carefully and try to keep track of npcs that could be affiliated with quests. also! some quests have different options for endings so there could be multiple ways to complete them. stock up on food on the earlier days, and after the inquisitor arrives because the prices drop. try to stealth kill with melee weapons when you can, and also reserve your bullets. …also make sure to trade with the children a lot! hold onto objects like the hooks and flowers [to get schmowders. Like I said before, to win the game you only need enough cures to heal the Bound.] …another tip is to keep a pen and paper around to take notes. like when i got the tincture recipes instead of keeping them in my inventory i just wrote them down.”

i mean klaus got choked by Luther and thrown and just all round disrespected, BUT he was awful to Luther (who has little to NO social skills) after finding him with the girl. I think what people most zero on this scene is Klaus saying he doesn’t remember his first time bc he was high/drunk, while ignoring Luther who also doesn’t/barely remembers HIS first time bc he was high/drunk. I actually really LOVE this scene in terms of character development (1/2)

this scene and the ‘I want to be u’ scene too, bc it shows how awful their relationship is and how reginald trained them to compete with each other and put each other down, to ‘win’ so to speak, and how the way they were treated and how they treated each other manifests in this bitterness and mockery. specially Klaus who must feel angry no one takes his struggles seriously. bc in healthy siblings dynamics they don’t treat each other that way. but..... yeah it’s awful and sad 😔 (2/2) i’d like to thank you, anon, for sending asks on this topic that have some good points and aren’t dickish. it is greatly appreciated and you are an angel <3 i’m going to try and respond and explain my feelings on this the best i can but.. no promises on quality lmfao it’s almost 3AM and i’m three (3) drinks in so IMMA DO MY BEST

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [[just a heads up also that i am NOT re-reading this before posting. i do not have the energy for that so it’s just gonna be what it’s gonna be]] Luther (who has little to NO social skills) - I think what people most zero on this scene is Klaus saying he doesn’t remember his first time bc he was high/drunk, while ignoring Luther who also doesn’t/barely remembers HIS first time bc he was high/drunk. the thing is, and this seems to depend entirely on the perspective and personal experiences of the person watching, klaus wasn’t awful to luther. he wasn’t mocking. he was doing what siblings do - they tease. as for ignoring luther who doesn’t really remember his first time for the same reasons klaus doesn’t remember his: i dont think it was ignoring so much as it was klaus wouldn’t consider it a big deal - it wouldn’t occur to him to think of it that way - because it wasn’t for him. and even when you know that your sibling doesn’t have much for social skills, it’s probably not something that’s going to stay at the forefront of your mind and direct every interaction you have with them - especially in regards to a sibling you haven’t seen in 13 years - so it would make sense for klaus to not interact with luther in more of a way people would find acceptable. perfect sibling interactions dont happen i mean klaus got choked by Luther and thrown and just all round disrespected, BUT there is no but there - some teasing (or mocking, depending on how you see it) is nowhere near the same thing as choking someone, throwing them across a room, AND consistently being genuinely rude and disrespectful. i’m not saying klaus can’t be mean or a jackass - he absolutely can - but to say he was awful or horrible to luther ESPECIALLY post!rave is bananas. klaus tried to cheer luther up, offered to try summoning reginald even though that’s the last thing he’s ever want to do, tried to stop luther from drinking more, tried to convince luther that drugs and alcohol weren’t the way to go, tried to stop luther from venturing out on his own, went after him when he didn’t listen - and yeah, he wanted to stop part way in because of withdrawals, but he didn’t. and it’s not just because ben tried to guilt him - ben does not control the klaus. if klaus didn’t want to keep looking for luther he wouldn’t have. so he finds him. he goes into the worst possible place for someone who is trying to get sober because his inexperienced brother is there, he tries to get luther to leave with him and while he’s struggling so horribly the whole time - because of the immediate access to drugs and the ptsd episode - he tried to protect luther and gets killed for it. and then never brings any of this up to luther after the dude is sober. he could have - he could have been petty and cruel about it, because if luther knew i dont doubt he would feel horrible and it would weigh on him so much, both as a brother and as the leader, but klaus never did. and maybe that was because he didnt think anyone would believe him but i think part of it was not wanting to hurt luther because he knows what drugs and alcohol do to a person - he knows very fucking well - he knows the lack of control and awareness and he isnt going to hold it against luther the way we all know everyone holds everything against klaus - the things he did while mentally on another planet. AT MOST klaus teases him when he goes to wake luther up for a family meeting - in a manner that comes off silly but not - imo - cruel. simply ridiculous, as klaus often is. but he pours luther a cup of coffee and they talk about his conversation with their dad and that’s that their only other interactions after that are when klaus, diego, and five go to the bar to get luther - and that isnt even an interaction because they dont talk. and then in the car on the way to leonard’s cabin.. where they dont talk. and then at the cabin klaus has his hand on luther’s shoulder, providing a small act of comfort while also devastated because literally everyone knows luther and allison. they’re in the infirmary when allison needs blood but again - they dont talk. and then in the scene where vanya is bringing down the academy - brief, and they dont talk. and then it’s the bowling alley - where klaus tries to be honest with everyone, expresses a quiet offer of help that nobody takes seriously, and then okay yes - he snaps back at luther when luther is a dick to him. but its nothing actually cruel and he immediately tries to backtrack. after that moment the only time they talk is when luther is asking klaus if ben is in agreement on time traveling at the end of episode 10 so where in there was klaus cruel and awful and horrible?? i mean i guess those things can depend, again, on a person’s perspective and experiences - and maybe people have different takes on what those words mean (and the extent they cover) and yknow what?? gotta say - that’s valid. nobody can control how someone else takes in the show - we cant even control how we take it in ourselves. but for me this specific line of takes is absolutely noodles. do i think klaus was flawless? fuck no. i wouldnt love him so much if he was. but i dont think any of his interactions with luther can be considered horrible on his end. i dont see this awful person in those moments that apparently other people do Klaus who must feel angry no one takes his struggles seriously. this though. t h i s t h o u g h. i’m not gonna get super into it because this response is already kind of a lot BUT yes. whether klaus knows it or not, acknowledges it or not, he probably is so angry and hurt that nobody takes his struggles seriously. nobody ever has - i mean ben has followed him around for the last 13 years, has seen some of what he’s been through and has learned about the rest, and he STILL digs into klaus and acts like he doesn’t have a reason to be the way he is. if not even ben can take his trauma seriously, and he - at least pre!death - seemed to be the kindest, then how would anyone else?? they wouldn’t and It Shows. and, of course, that includes luther - who i agree, was in a way separated from the others - not physically but like.. ranking and power wise, by reginald and his constant push of luther being number one and that meaning Everything. and klaus - well we all know what reginald thought of klaus and i dont doubt he filled luther’s head with his opinions which luther would internalize as Facts - because reginald had a hold on luther that he didn’t quite have on any of the others. (i mean he totally had a hold on all of them, they’re all fucked up, but luther stayed there because reginald had him so convinced of the academy’s mission and luther’s importance to him) SO. if klaus WERE to verbally be aggressive with luther or anyone i personally would understand - why should he take other people’s trauma seriously, expend the heart and energy to care and to do what he can to cheer them up, when they can’t even take a moment to listen to him - or see what’s right in front of their eyes. i’d be fucking pissed. tbh i think klaus handles things pretty fucking well from the funeral on considering the Everyfuckingthing. he’s sassy - yeah. he can be jackass and he has the potential to be cruel - hell yeah. but he expresses more care for each of his siblings in s1 than any of them do for him (except maybe diego) and idk, man, i have seen the first season somewhere beyond 15 times (i stopped counting) and i’ve never taken any of klaus’s words or actions towards luther to be genuinely cruel or horrible. it just doesnt read that way for me and i honestly struggle to see how people CAN see it that way.. so here i am. annoyed. but on my own tumblr bc i have no desire to @, fight, or argue with anyone over opinions but sometimes a little bastard just has to vent yknow?? yknow.

Dear Alternative Community Gatekeepers, Stop

Alternative is not a label which you can give to one 'group' of people. alternatives are non conformists who have no social group. you cant recognise an alternative person by what they wear or look like, so dont try to. they dont all wear the same clothes (like moshers, chavs, goths, indies or any other group of people who try to be individual but all seem to like the same stuff, wear the same clothes and only listen to music which their friends like). alternative people enjoy listening to whatever the hell they like, because they dont just like one type of music, they may just enjoy music on a whole, or it may just depend what kind of a mood they are in to what kind of music they listen too at that time. although this term is based around mysic it also applys to clothes as i said above many groups try to all wear the same stuff in order to fit in, alternatives wear whatever they like, if its designer, and they like it, they will wear it. if its got the name of a band on, and they like it, they will wear it. if there is a song which is by slipnot, and they like it, they will listen to it. if there is a song, which is by eminem, they will listen too it. Punk is not about a certain hair colour, style, or music, although music does take a large part in most punks lives. Punk is about liking what you like, being yourself, saying what you think and FUCK ALL THE REST. You don't need a two foot high red mohawk to be a punk, although that is wicked cool. You don't need sleeves, a backpiece, or any tattoos at all to be punk. You don't need a Misfits, Casualties, Sex Pistols or any band like that jacket to be punk. You don't need anything to be punk except for awareness, self respect, respect for others and an open mind. A Goth is someone who sees beauty in the dark side of life. Today's society is focused on negating darkness because it is associated with evil. Think about it - in almost every fairy tale, who is the antagonist? The brunette. Who is the protagonist? The blonde. Dark is evil, evil is bad, and therefore we should wipe all trace of it from our lives. Unfortunately, that's simply not possible. No matter how hard society tries, people still die. Day turns into night. Love becomes loss. It's a fact of life. So while everyone else is denying an entire half of life, the Goths embrace ALL of life, good and bad. Goths understand that the best and most lasting joy is tinged with a little sadness, and that all love is bittersweet. Goths understand that not everybody has to be happy 24/7, and that the way to succeed is not by pretending you are. Sunlit skies are beautiful, yes, but so are dark cloudy ones. What is white without black? What is a rose without thorns? Thus, by embracing the shadows as well as the sun, Goths are, in many cases, actually more emotionally healthy than those in mainstream society. Emo is an emotional person. They are not depressed all the time and some are acually very happy at times. They do smile, they don't sit in a corner crying all day. Some are actually quite popular and laugh and joke around lots. NB: Emo does not mean the person cuts themselves, they might but that is not why they're emo. The word "scene" coves a large spectrum throughout recent history, but its most modern definition is used to describe certian subcultures and movements. The most notoriously famous and targeted is the alternative music scene, or more specifically, branches of the alternative music scene such as hardcore, indie, fashoionxcore, etc. A breed of scenesters (people on the scene) has begun to come to the forefront. These scenesters are usually very music-savvy and loyal to a few specific genres (typically hardcore, metal, indie, retro, 80's new wave, classic rock, etc. to name a few), of which they dress to exemplify. It is hard to pin down a style for a scene male or female, considering the trends amongst them vary from coast to coast, and certian fads come in and out within their ranks. Typically, though, many scene kids will have facial piercings, tattoos, and longer hair. It is not unusual to see teased hair with long bangs on males, or short fauxhawks (a mohawk without the sides shaved, a fashion-friendly version) on females. It is almost a throwback to the revolution of Britian's glam era, very androgynous and fresh. Scenesters take a lot of pride in their overall image, and often they appreciate shock value. Oftentimes they are thrifty, employing their abilities as bargian-hunters and do-it-yourself gurus to do something unique with their style. Large vintage sunglasses, retro patterns, tight jeans, classic metal/band tees, plastic jewelry, and heavy eye makeup are just some of the incorperations into scene style for either sex. This style and showmanship is at its height during shows (concerts), where often scene kids will meet their friends and size up strangers who visit their turf. There indeed is competition among scenesters...sometimes friendly, sometimes not. Shows are in fact not just concerts, but often a means of socialization for those on the scene. Those people who partake in scene lifestyle often choose to date/socialize only with those like them, which can cause bitterness or rejection to outsiders. The music scene is often associated with other areas that scenesters are interested in, which is liekely, art, photography, creative writing, poetry, tattoos & piercings, civil rights, animal rights, etc. Many scene kids have strong beliefs about these things and consider those who do not to be "posers." They feel that their scene style is not only a fashion statement, but an all-encompassing lifestyle. Many scene kids incorperate their future plans into their lifestyle, going into careers such as journalism, photography, artistry, piercing, tattooing, working for magazines, being musicians, hairstylists, running venues and/or coffee shops, etc. This tends to cause scene kids to congregate, visit, or even move to big cities to find opportunities to meet other scenesters, find jobs that suit them, or to live where they have a plethora of activities that they enjoy readily at their disposal. Recently internet revolutions like myspace.com have provided a new means for the ideas of scene culture to be spead, for scenesters to find new friends, bands, and activities. Scensters design stylish and graphic profile pages to both draw attention to themselves and to find others like them, and many people have joined up with the scene fad due to internet advertising. The downside of many scene atmospheres is that some scene kids tend to develop a superior mentality. Some who are especially popular and affluent can make it harder for the younger, yet-aspiring scenesters to join in with the subculture. This is not always the case, however. Different areas breed different demographics of scene kids. Perhaps part of their attitude comes from the problem that scenesters have begun to feel threatened about their culture being jeopardized because of a sort of trickle down effect. The internet is permitting easy access for anyone who would want to don scene-esque style and jump right in to a culture that scenesters feel they have built from the ground up and developed into a complex lifestyle. However, this lends many to get caught up in popularity contests in local areas as well as on the world wide web. Unfortunately, this can also lead to rifts in scenes. Groups of hardcore scenesters start "crews," often characterized by fierce brotherhood to the point of violence against others who are unlike them or who are in other crews. The scene is dividing amongst itself, due to purists who feel the scene is about music only, and those who have taken the scene fashion to be almost, if not equally, as important as the music itself. Some of the fashionable scenesters stick to their musical roots, but often due to the aforementioned trickle-down effect, there are people joining the scene who are not interested in the music, but are only in it for the attention. Thus, the scene will continue to divide. Whether they will admit it or not, kids interested in this lifestyle of excitement, concerts, body modification, fashion, and overall alluringly unusual aesthetics will continually be labeled as "scene." They chose an alternative path because they wanted to find acceptance elsewhere. Now, they face a community just like any other: one of all different types of people, who have different opinions and standards. It has its pros and cons, ups and downs, just like any lifestyle does. A metalhead is somebody who loves heavy metal. Don't always have the "look". And it's not even necessary to listen to just the classic metal bands, you can listen to the subgenres. You just have to appreciate the genre as a whole. The term: Short for independent rock. In terms of music it would be independent of major labels/mainstream stuff. History: grew out from 60s garage, 70s punk, and 80s post punk it started in the mid 80s as alternative/college radio music. Once nirvana hit big the alternative genre split: the popular side was just alternative(Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, No Doubt, etc.) and the other half that wasn't mainstream(by choice or not) became indie rock(Pavement, Sebadoh, Built To Spill, etc). Some bands have signed to major labels but are still considered indie(Modest Mouse, etc.). Go figure. Sound: In the begining indie sounded like alternative(because it was) but it grew more experimental and weird. In Britain indie has more of a typical sound like Radiohead, Muse, etc. rather than a definition based on 'the scene.' The scene: if you really think all indie kids do is try to be cooler than other people then... well.. you're mostly right.

oh shit really? uhh idk if i can do that but... i mean i gotta say siyeon right? her voice *is* dreamcatcher to me. her voice defines their sound more than anything else, even more than their rock concept. like for real, her voice is more integral to the feel of a dreamcatcher song than the guitars or sort of dark vibe. well, her voice brings the dark vibe a lot of the time, honestly. after that i’d say jiu cause her voice is the total opposite, she has the voice you would least associate with a concept like this, but that serves to add a lot of range to their sound too. her voice is so vividly bright and cheerful... so, dreamcatcher’s dark concepts are defined by siyeon for me, and dreamcatcher’s lively personality and energy onstage and offstage are defined by jiu for me. those first lines of “wake up”? iconic, full of energy, aaaaaa i love her. after that i guess i’d say yoohyeon cause she’s the lead vocalist lol. and then... about the same for the rest. i dont have an order from then on. they’re one of the groups where i think it’s the easiest to tell which member is singing just from audio alone, all seven of them have distinct vocal characters. the only two that i sometimes mix up (again, just based on audio only) are sua and gahyeon. or dami when she sings lol

sua - hmmm.... im having trouble remembering which eras were which for certain members... i know she had reddish purplish hair for piri right? i cant remember some of them though... like she didnt have as many drastically different looks as someone like siyeon or dami. maybe i’ll say good night though, purely because of her rap haha. EDIT: oh shit i looked at photos from the eras after all, and oh my god i forgot about you and i... nevermind lol scratch that, it’s you and i. those designs she had in her hair were super cool

siyeon - deja vu, specifically the part where she had short blue hair. amazing. flawless. legendary. stories will be told of those days

handong - her ‘what’ era is probably her most popular, but actually im gonna say deja vu. i liked her short blonde hair, it looks really good on her. the first thing that came to mind is her with that hair and those purple/black deja vu outfits... im thinking of some photos from some fansigns... yeah.

yoohyeon - deja vu again lol, sorry about the recency bias haha. this is the era she viciously and savagely bias wrecked me. especially during those fanmeetings where she had a ponytail and was wearing a suit... oh my god lol she knew exactly what she was doing. they all know exactly how good they look in suits and they subject us to it as often as they can lol. her grey hair during you and i is iconic too, and the red she had during good night... but i think im gonna stick with my answer

What do you hope to see on their albums in the future?

what do you mean? like in terms of types of songs? uhhh.. idk.. most of the stuff i would say to this is stuff that i have no doubt will actually come. i want more bangers like piri and what, i want more edm stuff like sleepwalking and silent night, but yeah i’m sure we’ll get that. i guess what i’ll say is... more songs with involvement from the members. either in terms of composition or even just lyrics. though i like the composers and lyricists they have a lot! i’ll also say if nothing else, then a song choreographed at least in part by the members would be amazing. idk if it’ll happen for a title track, but if sua choreographs one of their edm bsides or something, and they perform it live on music shows, fuck...

What would you say to each member if you didn't have to worry about a time limit?

each member individually??? that’s too time consuming woirjgeoiwrgew but i do have individual answers for all of them probably lol. especially yoohyeon, i wanna talk to her about languages. i’ll just say to all of them how much i appreciate them and how they arent boxed in by typical idol conventions, but they also arent boxed in as outside them either. like, they’re not an anti-kpop-group, they’re not the complete antithesis, they like being a kpop group and they like other kpop groups so they would never want to be that. i like how much fun they have, i like how close they are, i like how they treat their fans, i think if the fandom did something really awful or went too far i like to think they would feel comfortable letting us know. hopefully, anyway. more than most other kpop groups i’m aware of, it’s easy to find them in videos and vlives and stuff not being totally in idol-mode and just being people, and friends with their members. im not criticizing other groups, cause if i was in their position, i think i would have a hard time not being “on” when on camera, even if it’s just a vlive. maybe it’s because they’ve known each other for a lot longer than a lot of other current-gen groups, and they’re older than many of their current-gen peers too. they feel very earnest, they’re not trying to hide. im sure there are aspects to them that we dont know about and will never know about, and i hope that’s the case cause i hope they’re able to maintain some privacy in this job, but it’s not hard to tell when someone is being genuine and when someone isn’t, and i get a very genuine vibe from them a lot of the time. i’m glad they are who they are, they’re really influential and inspirational to me. i.... also might wanna mention their support for lgbt people, though i would want to talk to them about that in private because it’s personal for me and risky for them and i know how shitty that situation is, especially since i know that they care and would be a lot more vocal if they could be. and they’re one of the most vocal groups about it already! i just want to thank them.

Prequel okay now we’re getting somewhere.... Wake Up or Sleepwalking.... fuck.... Sleepwalking is actually probably the song that really converted me into a fan cause its the first time i really heard their range. after listening to Piri and You and I and maybe Chase Me, i decided to just watch all their music videos in order, and the playlist i used included the special clip mvs too, so hearing Sleepwalking for the first time right after Fly High was wild, it blew me away and i listened to it like 8 times in a row haha. A/N : right, I will forever apologize for the lateness of everything! But its finished! well kind of, This will be a two-part series cuz its long and … yeah! Also I'm terrible with fight scenes, forgive me T_T wait for the next part, which will be possibly done soon…. :’)

Hanzo x reader - fight me

Being a new recruit was never easy. You were treated as the underling from the lack of experience you had, much unlike your peers who seem to come from a military background. With only sports as your background experience, you went through more rigorous training than the other trainees. You wished to show your supervisors, in this case, was the head of overwatch Jack Morrison, that you were more than a pretty face. Spending numerous hours in the training suit, you managed to work yourself to death trying to develop your physical strength with sheer fortitude.

“Agent [l/n], you’ve exceeded your latest physical combat and endurance examination with an impeccable score. It is most impressive, good work soldier” The older male said, his lips formed a small smile of approval.

“Thank you, sir” you said as you tried to contain your heavy breathing. The firm gaze the Commander had on you was intimidating yet you did not wither under his scrutiny.

“However, in order to truly improve yourself and rank up, you must be faced with a more advanced opponent” Jack continued. You wondered whether the commander himself would spare with you, though it was a daunting task. You cocked your head in confusion, silently prompting him to continue. The commander chuckled lightly at your uncertain look.

“I’m assigning you to work with Hanzo Shimada from the recon squad. His skill is admirable in both combat and on the battlefield, so I feel you will greatly benefit from this, agent” Jack said as he placed a hand on your shoulder as a sign of reassurance.

“I…yes sir, thank you for this opportunity!” You say, a little too loud and excitedly. The other trainees look in your direction and you cower a little from the attention. An embarrassed blush forms as you fidget.

“Tomorrow at 0700 sharp, come to the training grounds and I will introduce you.”

“Don’t take it easy yet Agent, I assure you Hanzo will not be an easy opponent” The commander chuckled as he walked away, leaving you to soak in his words.

As you watched Jack form disappearing, you heaved a deep sigh you’ve been holding in. You then stretched, feeling your bones crack and ‘pop’ in certain joints released the built-up tension you’ve been building up.

‘Mann, I just wanna rest all week, my bones are gonna break any day’ you thought as you let out another sigh then headed back to your room for a shower. The day went on without another hitch. A couple of scouting lessons and then dinner.

Your mind wandered to the oncoming task, you realised you haven’t once met the mentioned male. Sure, you’ve heard of Hanzo, a renowned archer for his unprecedented skill with the bow, and how he caused a form of anxiety amongst the trainees due to his background and impressive status. Though you have yet to meet the man in question, it didn’t deter your determination as you had confidence in your combating skills.

It was evening, in time for dinner. You were a naturally reserved individual yet you made acquaintances with a couple of members from the other squads. Swiftly, you finished your dinner and decided to head back to your bedroom.

After a while of wandering through the white pristine halls, your anxious mind kept thinking of the possible outcomes tomorrow. With a sigh, you headed out toward the garden, behind the building. Stepping out into the cool air of the night, you felt revitalised from the comforting cold breeze.

“it is a fine night, would you not agree?” A voice said behind you, catching you off guard. You yelped a little as you flinched at the sudden voice. You turn, coming face to face with the owner of the voice. A hint of a smile was present on the male’s features.

“My apologies for my unannounced presence” The male said. You glanced up, taking in his unusual choice of clothing yet admired his silky locks and intricate sleeve of tattoo that covered his arm and chest.

“I-It’s no problem, I was just …a little surprised that’s all” you nervously chuckled. The male cracked a small smile as he looked over your figure. You felt small under his gaze, you looked away and out at the sky.

Unbeknownst to you, Hanzo found you ethereal in the moonlight. He couldn’t help himself when he began approaching you from behind, his heart seems to have controlled his movements when he found himself speaking to you. Watching you flinch, caused a warm swelling in his usual cold being, you were causing a mystical change to the older Shimada.

“Sorry, I don’t think I introduced myself. I’m [y/n] [l/n]” you smiled as you stretched your hand out toward the male. He gladly accepted with a hint of a smile. His firm grip caused excited flutters in your

Before you could interject, the unnamed male took his leave. You felt a little foolish for not getting the handsome Asians name and mentally scolded yourself.

‘What the heck [y/n]??! You didn’t even get his name, you fool!” you screamed in your head, your hands tangled in your hair in frustration.

With a sigh, you calmed yourself down and headed to your room, getting ready for tomorrows task.

Hanzo’s POV.

Hanzo left you outside with a feeling of minimal satisfaction. Earlier, the strike commander approached the archer to request a friendly sparring with another agent, you. Whilst slightly reluctant he still accepted the proposal given by Jack. Jack had mentioned you were easily climbing your way up the ranks with your combat and intellectual skills and Hanzo wanted to get a first-hand impression of the so-called ‘advanced trainee’.

The Japanese male was meditating in his room, mentally preparing for tomorrow’s sparring when thoughts of you entered his once calm mind. After he saw you, his heart began hammering at an alarming rate, severely confusing the male. Emotions like these were never enticed before and this was an odd sensation he welcomed.

With a ‘tut’, a sly smirk began forming at the corners of his firm lips as he remembered what he had told you.

“Our paths will certainly cross more than once, my dear [y/n]” he said to himself, a humorless chuckle followed.

Time Skip

The day had arrived of the fated combat. Despite it being labeled as ‘friendly sparring against talented agents’ you took it much more personal. The strike commander himself was testing your abilities and if you won, you were promised an advancement in your ranks.

The passing of breakfast and an early morning run was quick and you left for the training room, where a number of trainees gathered along with Jack. As you opened the door, all eyes immediately shifter toward your approaching form. The golden commander looked back and greeted you.

“Morning agent, glad to see you didn’t chicken out” Morrison chuckled, his eyes glinting with anticipation for the days’ event.

“This is my only opportunity to prove myself, of course, I wouldn’t flee that easily” you say with a grin, excitement and adrenaline filling your veins.

A sly grin makes its appearance on his face as he commends you for your determined attitude.

“Now then, just to wait- never mind he’s here” Jack began before being interrupted by the door once more. Everyone including you turned toward the door to see your opponent.

In that instant, you felt your heart flip in a million different directions. The same attractive male from yesterday! A flaming blush began forming as you gaped at the sight of him.

“I-it’s… You!” you yelled accusingly as you pointed at the figure.

“Did I not tell you, our paths would cross sooner than you anticipated” He said, a hint of smugness noticeable in his words.

“Well, I sense some familiarity here, but let me give a proper introduction. [y/n], this is Hanzo Shimada, a respectable archer from the Shimada clan located in Hanamura, Japan. Hanzo, this is –“Before the commander could finish, Hanzo interjected.

“I am familiar with agent [y/n] [l/n], thank you” He said, a monotonous manner.

You rolled your eyes at his manner, despite his handsome looks, his smug demeanor seemed to irritate you.

“Let get this over with!” you say, a little too loud for your own liking. Both Hanzo and Jack looked at you.

A smile formed on the commander’s lips as he clapped to get everyone’s attention.

“Ya heard the girl, get to positions!” with an authoritative voice, everyone moved aside and let you and Hanzo in the middle of the room.

Your intent gaze met the dark pairs of Hanzo’s soulful eyes.

“I will not take it easy on you, dear [y/n]” Hanzo spoke to you, a slight smile visible.

“I wouldn’t wish for it” you smirk and stand in position.

Jack stood between you two, to commence the fight.

“Ready? Start!” with that, you launched yourself at the male.

You began with a solid punch toward his handsome face. In a swift manner, his hand countered your punch. Then in a split second, you retrieve your hand and move out the way for his oncoming blow. You missed his leg trying to swipe under you and fell with a thud. With a groan look up and see Hanzo’s fist coming to strike you for which you fluidly grab it and pull him close enough to head-but the smug male. You took advantage of his dazed state, as you grabbed his arm and attempted to twist it behind his back. It was as if he snapped back to reality and foresaw your endeavor. Hanzo lifted his leg and with full force drove it in your gut. You staggered back, coughing in the process. Before you knew it, you were being held down by the more experienced Japanese male. You struggled against his hold but that only prompted him to further drive to dig you into the ground with his weight and grasp tightening on your arm.

“That’s enough Hanzo” upon hearing that, Hanzo promptly got off you. You got up, refusing his outstretched arm and glared at him.

You stood aback from Hanzo and watched with fire in your eyes. How could you let him win?!

“It was a fair fight but seemed like Hanzo had the upper hand” Jack concluded.

Hanzo watched your glare with apologetic eyes. He felt a tinge of regret and frustration, he must’ve hurt you in the process he thought. But, he couldn’t help but admire the way you held your form in battle. With such grace and force, you were an ideal partner for both sparrings and on the battlefield. A warmth had spread through his being as he watched you squirm beneath him, filling his mind with indecent thoughts.

“Looks like you’ve got a bit to work on there agent [y/n]” Jack said before telling the other trainees to go for their next session. Jack left with the others, leaving you alone with Hanzo.

“I apologize if I have caused you any discomfort [y/n]” He said sincerely, with no trace of mocking.

You scoffed and walked away.

“You’re obviously a much better fighter than me, there’s no need for such familiarity” you spoke coldly.

“But [y/n], I wish to indulge in a mutual friendship with you, if you would allow” He pleaded for you to give him a chance.

You were being slightly unreasonably cold to the male for winning against you, yet this was the only obstacle in your way of further advancing in the next ranks. However, it was an order from the commander for which he could not disobey, nor would you have been satisfied if he was to purposely lose against you. It was a rather uncomfortable predicament you’ve landed into.

“I wish to be nothing more than opponents, agent Shimada. So… please don’t try to incite something more” you softly trailed away, feeling disappointed in yourself and looking toward the ground for some form of comfort.

You waited a moment, hoping for him to try and stop you again. The air was filled with a tense silence. You sighed and left the room with more on your mind than disappointment and frustration.

Hanzo stood there and watched your retrieving form disappear through the doors. He had noticed the change in your demeanor yet he kept it to himself. He saw the feeling of dismay took over you as your head hung low and your feet lightly dragging on the ground as you left. Hanzo clutched his chest as it felt like his heart dropped at that moment. He cursed himself for doing this, though he was not given a choice.

‘This cannot go on. I must make amends with [y/n], perhaps then will I feel at ease’

He needed you to acknowledge his regret and these mysterious build-ups of emotions he had not experienced before. He wished to experience them with you and you only. Hanzo pledged to himself gain your trust and perhaps something more along the way.

ESSAY TIME I love a ship please come hang out w/ me on this dinghy or like. dont because fates is awful and I can’t blame u for dodging that bullet but i just wanna scream because i love them and they’re the fixation rn so 321 GO

i cant blame anyone for not really seeing this because their support is. Ok. Its alright. Not amazing, it’s serviceable, better options are out there in fates I'll concede. Corrin has like. At least 3 other love interests who feel more canon LMAO but this isn’t about them

It's more from elsewhere in their characterization that really made me adore them and, as I mentioned in tags, a lot of this comes from how I write them which. Is largely filed under rp stuff right now but more ramble time on how i write them i guess dont forget to mark your free bingo space for throwing out large swaths of fates canon and writing. Also we're scooting their canon support gently to the side because it’s ok it’s not the most offensive writing this nightmare scrap heap of canon has to offer but a massive missed opportunity.

PART 1- One (1) Corn, With a Side of Emotional Neglect

*makes vague gesture at Disney's Rapunzel* Corrin would have been so much better recieved if the devs just took some notes from you instead of writing such a flat character i swear.

Corrin in particular with how I write her is getting a pretty massive rework in the emotionally stable department because honestly I don’t believe she would be. like. She's not dumb, but she is naive, important distinction, and it ends up coloring her views a lot and I have a ramble on that over here on the inverse graph that is Corrin’s confidence but to dissect where her attitudes came from:

Her family was limited to visits, and she has been directly/implicitly blamed for this for roughly a decade and a half, at least a decade, by not being an insane king's definition of strong enough to be with them. Bad memory makes her frail, swordsmanship isn’t up to par, doesn’t seem to offer much else in terms of skills unlike Xander, a Certified Badass(tm), Magic-oriented Leo and Elise, and Magically gifted but just plain ruthless Camilla. She’s held at arm’s length from her family, and while her siblings may have always loved her and expressed that love as often as they could, they’re not always there or a good yardstick to measure her progress with, and she had to always watch them go and likely wonder when they would come back, or if they even would.

As for our beloved butler and maids, being surrounded by servants was probably her most constant and consistent source of contact, and she does love them, but it can be very easy to wonder if they love her because they do or because it's their job to.

Corrin's faith in everyone around her and unwavering trust is there because any sort of doubt is basically redirected to. her. Because she is the dumbass who's still figuring the world out. She's hyper aware she's still learning and making naive decisions and she overcompensates that with "well what do I know" and not feeling really all that worthy to be Special Protagonist. She doubts herself before almost everything else.

Brief mention of Dragon arc because fates was dumb and neglected an entire arc for dragon feelings beyond chapter 5 and foreshadowing for Dad(tm) but I also write in an arc of the Dragon Is A Metaphor For Loving Yourself Faults And Trauma And All Love Yourself And You Can Control Yourself Dammit.

The way I write Corrin is not nearly as put together and confident as Canon™️ Corrin is, at least for a good chunk of the plot. She fakes it till she makes it because she is a leader and being mopey will not get things done but she’s also very self critical and mopey on the inside and quite paranoid that people don’t actually like being around her and just. ball of stress and anxious hidden under Many a uwu that she doesn’t want to talk about because why should she complain her childhood wasn’t That Bad and if she’s mopey how can she set a good example and people don’t like debbie downers and look its fine its fine lmao

PART 2- Mr. Perfect

As for Mr. Subaki he puts a lot of time and effort into looking perfect. I emphasize that because he may very well have natural talent, but honestly it feels like a large amount of his perfection is just. Stressing himself out by planning for and rehearsing everything possible! God this anxious idiot I love him!!! He's sociable and agreeable, but I think with basically everyone it’s. Skin deep. He’s charismatic Enough, and he digs a bit into the other’s history and personality if he’s interested, but he never really lets the other reciprocate like a magician never revealing his fraudulent secrets.

Biggest problem with that is he can't open up and vent because that is to admit a flaw and no no cant have that we cannot have that so he's just. Not sure who to turn to and has trouble being emotionally honest- even to himself. He just! Doesnt let himself have fun or relax; all perfect all the time baby. There’s basically no one who he could consider a close and trusted friend who can love him flaws and all. The closest would be Sakura and Hana and welp. gotta keep things professional and it’s not like Hana really expresses a sense of understanding and patience when they’re fiercely competitive with each other.

There’s probably a lot of muttering to his pegasus while he’s cleaning her hooves or braiding her mane, or staying up late thinking about how narrowly disaster was and wasn’t avoided that day but he. Also doesn’t really vent and also feels that imposter syndrome of “I’m honestly awful how did I even make it here.”

and it stinks because I think at his core he is a very sweet and caring guy and a massive dork, but he just plops himself on the edge of a pedestal and gives himself no room to be himself or anything less than perfect and is likely on the cusp of impending burnout.

PART 3- (Patrick Warburton impression) “Oh yeah, it’s all coming together.”

So our characters and stage are set. We got FE Fates (I’ll default to Rev), we got my views when writing these two, so what next? What is the general plot I imagine since we’ve gently scooted aside the canon support chain?

The dumbasses-to-be think they’re out of each other’s league.

For Subaki, it is plot-irrelevant background character falling in love with the protagonist, which yields the exact sort of pining you’d imagine: man you are super cool and hit all my standards but I’d be dreaming if you felt the same about me. She’s sweet, she takes charge, she can fight for herself well enough, has he mentioned she’s sweet? He can actually relax a bit around her which is really odd but I guess that’s what happens when your personal skill is literally called “Supportive”. Oh yeah and also his Lady’s older sister which oof. Sakura? In law???? Hinoka in law???? Takumi in law?????????? ryoma in law oh gods.

For Corrin, it’s Mr. Prince Charming right there and he’s very nice and Sakura is saying so many nice things about him but wow she’s. a princess from a country that has consistently terrorized his and on top of that might a well have been raised under a rock!!! And she picks up details and nuances in people remarkably well, but she overthinks them. She can pick up that Subaki- while very polite and friendly -isn’t being entirely forthcoming about what he’s thinking or feeling, but she can’t pin down exactly what it is, and makes the educated guess that he's just being nice because she’s Sakura’s sister or something.

And they’re friendly. They help each other out a bit. There’s tension, sure, but no one really comments on it (except for everyone making bets in the bg). They don’t really yield on their internal messes because Corrin knows she’s a leader and can’t really do that and distracts herself with believing in everyone around her, Subaki just flat out would rather do literally anything besides admit he’s messed up anywhere or open up. So feeling are put on a low simmer for awhile.

Of course they fall in love, and it almost gets messed up because when Subaki requests to talk with her in private to confess, she immediately assumes he’s going to tell her that he’s not interested. Her simmer roars into a boil because she’s been under Protagonist Stress ON TOP OF having a crush she’s confident won’t be reciprocated, so she snaps quite a bit because that has all been shoved in a bottle and she just wants to get the mess over with if he’s just going to tell her very nicely that her company is lovely but hes not interested it hurts a lot to think that but its fine you don’t have to settle.

But the thing is being emotionally vulnerable like that, pointing out she’s scared too of always not being enough and living up to expectations, to finally get that off her chest, spurs him into it, too. Because she gets it. She honest to god gets it even if she bought into the lie he’s perfect she understands. Oh, yeah, she also reciprocates feelings that’s really excellent too. Like Subaki probably makes a lot of fuss about a bunch of ultimately meaningless details and having “standards” and yadda yadda gods help whatever poor soul asks him to pull out the list of traits of his ideal partner, but I think at the end of the day if he’s looking for love most of all, like a lot of people he just wants someone who he can just. be himself around. Who likes it when he’s being himself!

And they both learn that yeah maybe they’re more flawed than they’ve been lead to believe, but it starts to not matter at all because they still try really hard and everyone makes mistakes. They’re both here to say it’s ok your best is enough, YOU are enough. They both think they’re amazing regardless of their mistakes and love to see each other smiling and succeeding and just make. a nice little bubble of comfort. They’re stubborn and supportive, they learn how to poke and prod the bad moods away be it making a nice cup of matcha and talking it out or laughing at a tiny, meaningless mistake and repeating it to keep that feeling of dread away. Also they both spoil their partners regardless of who they end up with you can’t @ me on that they both do it which means guess what mega spoil time. And long hair on both just means they can braid each other’s hair no problem... waaaaaa.... Also early rise Subaki and late rise Corrin so there’s always a sleepy fight in the morning because UGH this is early you keep saying i’ll get used to it but im not i need a kiss first if you want me to be up this early. Does the economy do better under Democrats or Republicans?

Overall, 57% of Americans say current economic conditions are excellent or good, but these views vary across demographic groups: older people, those with higher incomes, men and whites are particularly likely to say the economy is in good shape, while these views are less widely shared among younger people, those with lower incomes, women, blacks and Hispanics.

These demographic gaps are little changed over the course of the last few years. Americans ages 65 and over are the most positive in their evaluations of the economy, with 70% saying it is in excellent or good shape. By comparison, about half of 18-29 year olds say the same. And while more than six-in-ten white people offer positive evaluations of the economy, that compares with roughly half of Hispanic people and just a third of black Americans .

There is a 12 percentage-point gender gap in these views: 64% of men say the economy is doing well, compared with 52% of women. And while 64% of college graduates say economic conditions are excellent or good, 54% of those without a college degree say the same.

Views of the economy also differ starkly by income. Among those with annual family incomes of $100,000 or more, 72% have positive views of the economy, with one-quarter rating it as excellent. Roughly two-thirds of those who make $75,000-$99,999 and $50,000-$74,999 rate the economy as excellent or good.

For example, a recent Pew Research Poll of registered voters found that 49 percent of voters trusted Republicans to handle the economy better, while 40 percent trusted Democrats. This post seeks to answer a simple question is this perception true when it comes to the presidency? Do Republican presidents have better economies?

To answer the question, I looked at a variety of measures. These included measures of economic performance, like Gross Domestic Product or the change in the unemployment rate. I also looked at some areas of criticism for Democrats that their policies lead to debt and inflation. Then, I looked at President Trumps favorite measure of performance the stock market. Finally, because this blog is about inequality, I examined how a measure of inequality did under Republican presidents and Democrats.

The results are presented in all their glory below, but let me summarize it for you. If you are going to vote for a Republican presidential candidate based on their economic performance, think again. The perception that Republican presidents get better economic performance is wrong. Across most of the measures I will present, if anything, Republicans do worse. And you dont have to believe me. Has the economy fared better under Democratic presidents or Republican presidents over the past century? The sensible answer might seem to be: Its probably been similar.

Presidents, after all, have only limited control over the economy. They dont have much influence over the millions of decisions every day, made by consumers and business executives, that shape economic growth, jobs, incomes and stock prices. Over the course of a century, it seems logical that the economy would have performed similarly under Democrats and Republicans.

But it hasnt.

The economy has fared far better under Democrats. The gap, as one academic paper puts it, is startlingly large. Here are the headline numbers:

The gap exists not only for G.D.P. and jobs but also for incomes, productivity and stock prices. The gap also exists if you assume that a presidents policies affect the economy with a lag and dont start his economic clock until months after he takes office. Virtually any reasonable look at the data shows a big Democratic advantage.

My colleague Yaryna Serkez and I have just documenting the pattern and the potential reasons. A few possibilities are easy to reject. Its not about congressional control, nor is it about Democrats running up larger budget deficits.

Republican presidents have been slow to respond to recessions and other crises Donald Trump and both George Bushes being examples.

The Economy Does Better Under Democrats

Republicans have managed to create and maintain the myth that their party is best for the American economy. The facts say something different.

But the facts are not on the Republicans side. Historically, the American economy has performed measurably better when Democrats are in charge.

Here are some quick stats you can use when to support your assertions about the economy:

1) Since 1947, when official GDP calculations were introduced, GDP growth under Democratic administrations has consistently outpaced that of Republican administrations. This is true even when major crises like the Great Recession and the COVID-19 pandemic are factored out.

A similar study by Princeton economists found that from Truman to Obama, growth was 1.8 percent higher under Democratic administrations than their Republican counterparts.

2) On average, stock market growth is stronger under Democrats. Again comparing the period since 1947, data shows that markets grew an average of 10.8 percent under Democratic presidents, compared to 5.6 percent for under Republican presidents.

3) Democratic administrations create more jobs.

Since the 1960s, when the party holding the presidency began to fluctuate regularly, Democrats have, on average, outperformed Republicans in terms of job growth. Republican President Regan is an outlier, as he did post impressive job numbers. Here is a comparison:

Many analyses look at which party is best for the economy. A study from the National Bureau of Economic Research found that Democratic presidents since World War II have performed much better than Republicans. On average, Democratic presidents grew the economy 4.4% each year versus 2.5% for Republicans.

A study by Princeton University economists Alan Blinder and Mark Watson found that the economy performs better when the president is a Democrat. They report that by many measures, the performance gap is startlingly large. Between Truman and Obama, growth was 1.8% higher under Democrats than Republicans.

A Hudson Institute study found that the six years with the best growth were evenly split between Republican and Democrat presidents.

Most of these evaluations measure growth during the presidents term in office. But no president has control over the growth added during his first year. The budget for that fiscal year was already set by the previous president, so you should compare the gross domestic product at the end of the presidents last budget to the end of his predecessors last budget.

For Obama, that would be the fiscal year from October 1, 2009, to September 30, 2018. Thats FY 2010 through FY 2017. During that time, GDP increased from $15.6 trillion to $17.7 trillion, or by 14%. Thats 1.7% a year.

how aquamarines and lapis lazulis might be related: a theory

so, if youve been following me for a while, you probably know that lapis lazuli is my favorite steven universe character (heck, considering my url, im guessing even people who DONT know me can figure that out)

being someone who cares WAY too much about lapis, i couldn’t help but notice that yeah, alright, there are a LOT of similarities between her and aquamarine. and these similarities seem to go deeper than appearance, too! so im thinking theres no way these two gem types ARENT related. since (as im writing this) its 5:30 AM and i have nothing better to do, lets talk about some THEORIES, under a cut of course.

at first, lapis lazulis similarities to aquamarine confused me. there is no reason for these two gems to be so similar. why? because in steven universe, they take their gem facts VERY seriously. gem characters who are this similar in appearance (I.E. jasper and amethyst), in addition to having some related in-universe role, usually also have some correlation in real-life, such as jaspers and amethysts both being quartzes IRL and both being super-soldiers in the show.

lapis lazuli is a semiprecious metamorphic rock, composed mostly of lazurite, lazulite, pyrite, and calcite. aquamarine is a blue variation of beryl, with a composition mostly of beryllium aluminum cyclosilicate. so in other words, not at ALL like lapis lazuli. so it makes no sense, right? aside from color, these two stones are nothing alike, so their counterpart gem characters shouldn’t be so similar.

BUT THEN, i realized something. and this is where we get into the theories.

PART 1: Aquamarine is an Era 2 Gem

you might remember in “Too Short To Ride”, we learned that peridot is an era 2 gem, meaning she is newer than the crystal gems. going off of what is stated in other episodes, its safe to assume that era 2 started sometime after the crystal gem rebellion.

pearl knows about topazes and aquamarines, which means they have been around since era 1, but i think the two we know (and love?) are era 2 variants of them.

era 2 gems don’t care about the rebellion, the crystal gems, or anything related to that. this is likely due to the fact that none of them were present for it, so it lacks personal value to them. you can tell this by comparing jasper’s reaction to seeing stevens shield (which very clearly has rose’s symbol on it) to aquamarine’s reaction:

jasper, a known era 1 gem and participant in the war, is shocked, immediately recognizing the symbol for whose it is and what it stands for. aquamarine doesn’t mention the shield at all, merely acting annoyed that steven is trying to interfere with her mission (*cough* a lot like some OTHER era 2 gem we know). lack of reaction from topaz (who for sure saw the shield multiple times) can lead us to assume she is era 2 as well.

seems to be that era 2 gems are small. okay, topaz is pretty big, but shes a fusion AND (probably) a soldier, so she gets exempt from this rule due to having probable cause for being big. there is a reason for this, leading to the next part.

PART 2: Homeworld is Running Out of Resources

this one is more (as peridot would say) objective fact than theory, since its outright stated, but bear with me here. homeworld is running out of resources to make gems. which means it makes sense that era 2 gems, on average, are smaller than era 1 gems. additionally, it also gives reasoning for any gem who doesn’t have reason to be big (such as soldiers or bodyguards, like topaz) to be made small, to save those precious resources.

peridot, who is an era 2 gem, is hilariously short (the same size as a “defective” era 1 gem, amethyst), but has technological enhancements to make her appear to be average gem height, as well as help her perform her role of technician. this furthers the idea that aquamarine is an era 2 gem: man she is absolutely TINY. and you wanna know what ELSE she has?

BOOM. tractor beam wand. tiny size and a technological enhancement to help her perform her role, she seems for sure to be a product of era 2′s lack of resources. speaking of which, what IS her role? we know she is a high-ranking gem (her attitude, outfit, and seemingly personal connection with the diamonds certainly gives her this impression), but what on earth is she meant to do? a look at lapis lazulis might help answer this question...

Part 3: Lapis Lazulis are Probably Really Wasteful to Resources

as mentioned before, the stone lapis lazuli itself has a hopelessly complex composition: it takes FOUR different minerals (each of which could probably be considered their own gem) just to make this dang thing.

Peridot’s monologue in “Too Short To Ride” implies that gems with powers are taxing on resources to make. this would explain why era 1 gems seem to have a whole pantheon of superpowers, while era 2 gems get just one or two if they’re lucky. so, what we’re getting from this is stronger / more powers = takes a lot of resources to make.

lapis lazulis, as stated in the diamonds’ song in “That Will Be All” are terraformers. this means, a single lapis lazuli has enough hydrokinetic power to reshape entire worlds, because that’s their role in gem society. lapis’ debut in mirror/ocean gem sure seems to support this, she forms the entire ocean into a space elevator, with a cracked gem. if we go based on the more powers = more expensive idea, then lapis lazulis would for sure cost more than a pretty penny’s worth of resources to make for this reason alone (not even factoring other lapis abilities, like the memories and the water wings).

judging that in “The Answer”, we see what appears to be our very own lapis in Blue Diamond’s court, possibly with other lapises, we can figure that lapis lazulis’ tremendous powers rank them pretty high in the homeworld hierarchy. maybe to keep them complacent, so they wont use their terraforming power against the diamonds? who knows....

Part 4: Okay, but what does all this mean?

so, to recap: we know that both aquamarine and lapis lazuli are high ranking blue gems with water wings, close connections to the diamonds, and a deceivingly innocent or dainty appearance. one gem type has only thus far shown era 1 variants, and is decidedly wasteful to resources that started to run out in era 2. the other gem type, or at least the era 2 variation of them we are familiar with, is more economic to produce, and has a technological enhancement that allows them to easily lift and move large objects.

lift and move extremely large objects, you say? like, objects up to the size of a five-gem fusion? you know, like, a task you would probably need to carry out while reshaping a planet to fit the will of the diamonds? but this power isnt built in to your being, so it could easily be revoked in the case of disobedience? all wrapped up in a tiny, resource-efficient package?

oh yeah, thats what i mean by all this: there are no era 2 lapis lazulis, they got axed from the kindergartens at the end of era 1 for being wasteful and their role is instead filled by the repurposed era 2 aquamarines.

there are still probably a good handful of lapises and era 1 aquamarines around, of course, and the similarities between these two, if any, are yet to be seen. i might be totally wrong about this since aquamarine is such a new character (and lapis is still pretty mysterious despite being one of the first introduced gems), but whatever the case may be, im excited to hopefully learn more about gems and homeworld in the upcoming Wanted event!

BLOG 3: KNOW THYSELF

Who am I? That is one of the most important questions, not to mention one of the hardest, that one has to answer in order to get through life. In getting to know thyself, an individual may be able to obtain answers through realizations from experiences or simply through personality tests. Although results from personality tests are not guaranteed to be accurate all the time, it is fun to try and it may sometimes be surprising when there are revelations about oneself one has not noticed before.

Do you agree or disagree with your test results?

I have taken this test numerous times already in the past, and I'd always have the same result. I take the test again not because I disagree with the result, rather because I want confirmation; I truly relate to almost all description given to my personality type. I am truly an ISFJ-A. I am introverted but I can work with people; I am observant as I take strength in practicality; my feeling nature enables me to be more sensitive towards others; my judging tactics allows me to be prepared for any circumstances that may happen; and I am assertive for I keep moving forward. My test result says that my personality type is somehow peculiar as my traits contradict each other; I am strong at the same time I am emotional. My weakness lies in allowing people take advantage of me. It sounds too good to be true but the more I think about it, the more I realize it's true. I own up to my peculiar trait and I am proud to be an ISFJ-A.

Do the recommended careers appeal to you?

Not at all. I agree that my nurturing nature is appropriate for the recommended careers but even if I'm not comfortable being under the spotlight, I like challenging myself and putting myself out there because I know I can or at least I can try. I like growing and I don't like limiting myself to where I'm most comfortable. I know I can use my strengths in many other careers and develop further it in the process. I believe I can be more than what's prescribed or where I may enjoy the most. I will maximize my personality traits in whatever career path I'll be taking. Uncertainties may arise because of possible mismatch but there's not much harm done in trying. I like exploring as much as I enjoy familiarity.

How will the knowledge of your personality type help you to become a successful business leader?

I know who I am as a person but I cannot fully interpret it into words. In taking the personality test, my personality becomes more defined and I begin noticing those little quirks I don't usually see before. This knowledge helps me in becoming a successful business leader as now I know more about my strengths and weaknesses; I know what I can work with and work on. With the summary of results, I have more grasps on who I am which will assist me in identifying what environment I should expose myself in and which people I work best with. Having awareness of who I am will make it easier for me to make sound decisions when it comes to business, leadership, or any other aspect of my life.

My MBTI results show 74% introversion while my Big 5 results show that I have 6% score percentile on extroversion. Given these results, I believe they are consistent in showing that I am an introverted person and that I prefer being alone or working with small groups. It is easier to interpret the MBTI results as it directly gives the result whereas the Big 5 leaves it up to the assessor to determine the trait description.

Based on the definition of each trait, how would you describe yourself?

Factor I: Extroversion | Score Percentile: 6 I am an Introvert.

Factor II: Emotional Stability | Score Percentile: 62 I am Emotionally Stable, although given that my score percentile is in the middle, I may have my tendencies wherein I would express Negative Emotionality.

Factor III: Agreeableness | Score Percentile: 67 I am friendly and optimistic more often than critical and aggressive.

Factor IV: Conscientiousness | Score Percentile: 84 I am careful and diligent.

In your view, are the results of your MBTI and Big 5 Test consistent?

Yes, the results of the Myers and Briggs Type Indicator and the Big 5 personality tests results match. Both results reflect my introverted but warm nature, as well as my pragmatism and preparedness.

With regard the Social aspect, yes I do like being there for people in a sense that they can rely on me not that I am an extroverted person nor be the life of the party. If I were to rank my R-I-A-S-E-C, it would be: R - 13 I - 14 A - 6 S - 20 E - 30 C - 26

Do any of the suggested jobs fitting your R-I-A-S-E-C profile interest you? which of the suggested jobs do you think you are capable of doing, based on the level of preparation prescribed in the O*Net profiler?

For extensive job preparation, most Jobs recommended were in relation to education and teaching which I dont see myself doing anytime in the future. Although another recommended job is Chief Executives which is one of my goals. For high job preparation, it matched to to those of an accountant and auditor which I initially planned to take up but eventually realized that It isnt for me. For medium job preparation, those in relation to administrative services and banking positions were suggested and I dont mind being assigned to those positions as I my begin my career path. The other preparation zones I gave little attention to because I put in effort in attaining enough preparation for my career as I aim to be assigned in higher management positions. In the slide guideline provided, there are also Personality-Job Fit Theory. I believe that those given matches are appropriate but I dont think one should be limited by it. I would like to think that the R-I-A-S-E-C test should be taken as a whole and not just solely base your career choices on what best fits the personality that you got the highest score in. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Do you think you will have a fulfilling career if you take one of the suggested jobs for your profile?

Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be a successful businesswoman, I am glad that my results reflected this. However, another career path I want to take is that of Law and that was not reflected in the results. I do not think the test will be able to dictate or predict what field I will prosper in but does serve as a good assurance. A fulfilling career will be obtained in whatever job I will work hard in and prepare for regardless of the job matches suggested by R-I-A-S-E-C.

Do you agree with the comparison between your level of introversion/extroversion to your R-I-A-S-E-C profile?

No. I am an introvert (as shown in the first two personality tests as well). Maybe the reason behind the extroverted result in the R-I-A-S-E-C profile is because I enjoy lending a helping hand or lending a listening ear to others; I enjoy being of service to other people especially those who are in need of emotional support, because of this I make myself as approachable as possible.

Evaluation is a must in order to determine whether task done is successful or not and to identify areas to improve on in order for the project to be better. The 360 assessment follows an effective system of self-evaluation and evaluation from others, how ratings are integrated is commendable as it is easy to understand as it is very clear.

This assessment will be able to help me become a better leader as I am able to reconcile how I view myself with how people perceive me, therefore knowing what areas I can improve on and traits I can maximize. Often I do permit individuals to publish their songs developed with my free beats to Social Media.

But if I want to take the tune down for no reason. It’ll be taken down within minutes.

Yes, I can do that. Do not tinker complimentary beats!

It’s amusing because there is in fact no such thing as a FREE BEAT. If you are going to ask for something for free, request for a totally free LICENSE.

If you’re using a beat for which you have not gotten a license agreement in writing from the producer. You’re unauthorized to utilize it. And you might get in severe trouble.

As you can see, the statutory damages for copyright infringement are extremely high. Trust me, you don’t wish to mess with that.

Buying beats online– How does it work?

By acquiring a beat, you are acquiring audio files that are copyrighted by the producer. In return for your payment, the producer grants you a number of rights to use the beat.

This is what we call the License Agreement. There is a difference between:

Non-exclusive licenses Unique licenses.

The biggest distinction is that a non-exclusive license for one beat can be offered to a number of artists.

Yet, a special license can only be offered once and to one artist just.

In this article, I will just address the topic of non-exclusive licensing.

Various licensing alternatives– Which one to pick?

Online producers use various licensing options. In my case, I have 3 options.

Fundamental Premium Limitless

Some producers call them MP3 Lease, WAV Lease or Requirement Lease but it pretty much works the same.

The more costly your license, the more rights you get from the producer.

Also, the more costly your license, the much better quality audio files you will receive.

So, what is the best option?

I am not gon na lie. The majority of people that are buying beats online choose the less expensive licenses. One that includes less user-rights and low-grade audio files The user-rights granted in those cheaper licenses might be enough for them.

Yet, more significantly are the quality of the audio files.

If you’re aiming to develop quality music or at least wish to make music the proper way. Then ensure you get the Tracked Out files.

If possible, always go for a license that features Tracked Out Files. In my case, that would be the Premium or Endless license.

When I buy a beat– Do I own any copyright?

As soon as you write your lyrics and tape-record it over the beat, you will own the copyright to your lyrics just. And what you will develop with the beat is a New Song, also known as a “Derivative Work.”

This implies that you will own and control 50% of the so-called “Author’s Share.”

The producer will own and manage the other 50% of writer’s share.

You do not own the master or the sound recording rights because New Tune.

You have been licensed the right to utilize the beat and commercially exploit the song you make with it. Based upon the conditions of the license arrangement you have actually acquired.

The producer will stay the sole owner and holder of all right, title, and interest in the Beat. Including all copyrights to and in the sound recording. And the underlying musical compositions, written and made up by the producer.

What if I buy a non-exclusive license, then another person purchases the exclusive license for that same beat?

When it concerns purchasing beats online, you’re granted the rights that you got when you acquired the beat.

So, when somebody else acquires the exclusive rights, it will not (right away) affect you.

But there are some things you require to know …

In the old days, you were approved the user rights in the non-exclusive licenses for life. And the majority of producers still run by doing this.

Nowadays, some producers offer licenses that end after 2-4 years. In my case, my licenses expire after 4 years.

This implies that you will have to buy a brand-new license after that term.

If someone acquired the exclusive rights during your term. That will just mean that you will no longer have the ability to restore your license. After your term is due.

Producers don’t constantly show this info in their licensing tables. Make sure you check that prior to you make the purchase.

Another thing!

I have actually seen just recently that some producers install a brand-new term in their license contract.

One that approves the producer the right to end your license agreement even before your term is due.

The producer consists of in their agreements that they’re enabled to terminate the license arrangement upon written notice to you.

In return, they will pay you double or triple of what you’ve initially spent for the beat.

These music gamers have instant shipment after checkout.

After you have actually made the payment, you will be rerouted to a download area. And you’ll also receive an order verification by e-mail.

If you’re not exactly sure if a producer is connected with one of these platforms. Go to the BeatStars or Airbit website and search for the producers’ name.

If they are on it, you can make the purchase from BeatStars’ or Airbit’s Marketplace, simply to be safe.

If they’re not on these platforms, reach out to the producer with any issues you have. They’ll respond when you tell them that you have an interest in purchasing beats from them.

Before you connect; Make sure you’ve inspected the website for a FAQ section. If you’re asking concerns for which the answers are right in front of you, they do not constantly respond.

Bear in mind … On platforms like BeatStars and Airbit, producers still create their own license contracts. They operate on their own terms.

Before you purchase a beat, always examine the complete license contracts or licensing terms.

Like I said, those flashy rates tables don’t always reveal you everything!.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Another Hero King (Shadows of Valentia) Impressions

***No Story or Character Spoilers***

I dont speak or read a word of Japanese so I couldnt give my thoughts on the characters or story even if I wanted to. In addition to missing out on the story and character development I also only scratched the surface of the skill(tech) system as well as the sidequest system. All of that is enough to make me not want to call this a review; I need to play it in English and do the postgame content to have a complete opinion on the game, but as it stands I still have a lot of thoughts about the game after one complete playthrough. So...here are those thoughts:

Presentation: I dont think I can praise the presentation highly enough. Its always been the case with Fire Emblems on the same console that they look slightly better than the one before it, and thats no exception here. The music, color palate, animations, menus, character and weapon designs are all among the best in the entire franchise. Even though I couldnt understand the words, it was incredible to play a Fire Emblem game with full voice acting. It really elevates the experience and I’m very pleased we have finally gotten to that point. No idea if the localization will have good voice acting to make it work, but what we have heard so far has been great and generally speaking I think the 3DS games have done a good job in the area of localizations so I am not too concerned. If I have one gripe about the presentation its in the fully animated CG cutscenes. They still look very nice but the animation is a step down from what we saw in Awakening and Fates.

Gameplay other than combat: Fire Emblem Echoes, like Gaiden, is as different from any other Fire Emblem game as it could possibly be while still having that Fire Emblem feel. There are a lot of things that work together to make the game feel so unique. In addition to the world map that was in the original Gaiden and brought back in Sacred Stones and Awakening we also have towns and dungeons. Now, towns and dungeons were a thing in Gaiden but they were the definition of minimal. Towns consisted of one or two buildings where you talked to everyone and they either joined the party or warned you of a tough enemy coming up, and once in a while there was a chest as well. Now towns are 4 or 5 screens with many more npcs to talk to and more items to find, as well as a blacksmith (who in Echoes is a cool buff lady instead of the normal gruff guy in most FE games!) in most of the towns. It must be said that in the original game you could walk freely around the towns and now they are split up into screens and function more like a visual novel. Some people are upset by this change, but I personally dont really care either way. Being able to walk around would be slightly more immersive and the visual novel style is slightly more efficient and makes it easier to not miss any items, and I think both those things are valuable.

Dungeons, on the other hand, are just a straight upgrade. In Gaiden you walked down a hall and did a fight, sometimes thats repeated x2 or 3 times. It got a little more complicated near the end in Celicas route and then again at the end of the game, but not much more complicated. Now they are actually dungeons with secret passages and breakable objects and treasure and enemies that you can ambush or can ambush you. All the dungeons have a really great atmosphere and feel unique from one another. I admittedly dont play a lot of dungeon crawler type games, so I dont have a huge frame of reference here, but to me it felt like it was on the simpler side of dungeon crawlers, but not too simple that it wasnt enjoyable. Aside from the lost woods which is a maze with a lot of signs that I couldnt read, I liked all of the dungeons in the game, and I expect that I wont have any problems with the lost woods once I can understand them better. The fights themselves are simple and much easier than what you face in the main battles, so its overall just a fun atmospheric break from the main game where you win some easy fights, collect items, and maybe grab a promotion if anyone is ready.

Oh, I almost forgot, fatigue is a mechanic in dungeons. But just barely. At no point was fatigue ever more than the most extremely minor inconvenience. I really cant understand why they put it in the game. It usually only even sets in if you stick around in a dungeon longer than normal to grind, so I assume its meant to penalize grinding, but that doesnt make a ton of sense because 1) dungeons are there for you to grind and 2) its not even a big punishment because its so easy to get around via just leaving the dungeon or using one of the ample foodstuffs to cure it. So basically, its a bad mechanic that was poorly thought out and executed, but it barely matters so its easy to ignore and forget about.

I dont know what it is about finding weapons in a dungeon or picking it up from a castle you gained access to after a hard battle on the map, but it really makes them feel incredibly precious to me. That feeling is made even stronger by multiple design elements: first, like Gaiden and Fates before it, weapons are unbreakable, so you can keep using them as long as you want and get more attached. Second, as your characters use the weapons they unlock techniques that they can use if they have those weapons equipped. Last, forging has been added to the game and it uses a tiered system where you keep upgrading until you reach max level and then can upgrade it to an even better weapon entirely, letting you stay with your weapons throughout the game. And unlike Fates which added a bunch of drawbacks to the S rank weapons to offset their power and infinite durability, the legendary weapons in Echoes are just great. I think its an amazing system. I didnt fully understand the rings or shields, though I did use them as well, I got more out of having weapons equipped in general, but rings all have big descriptions as to their effects so I will have more to say when the game releases in English.

I also didnt get a ton out of the skill system. Since most skills dont double, I dont think youll be using them much on your mercenaries, pegs, or fast cavaliers, meaning typically worse off units like knights and archers might benefit from it. I mainly used two skills in my playthrough: A very strong double attack from Alm’s personal weapon and a super accurate attack with Atlas using an iron bow which in conjunction with his massive attack stat meant big chip damage. Ill have more to say about this later, but I am tentatively pretty excited about this system.

Battles in Echoes: The actual combat in Echoes is significantly different than any other FE game. Three major things really work together to make that true: Theres no Weapon Triangle, Growths are pretty low across the board, and when you promote you are brought up to the class baseline in stats. These things in conjunction with each other make it so that classes have a far stronger identity than ever before. Every class is well suited to fighting certain other classes, and you really dont want to send one of your units up against an enemy type that is good against them. This means that juggernauting is mostly out of the game as you really need to fight with your whole army to be able to deal with all enemy types. And thats right, I said the whole army. There are no deployment limits other than in dungeon battles. This is a pretty big deal and really makes the gameplay different than other Fire Emblems. The only other main game with no deployment limits is Genealogy of the Holy War, however in that game I almost always found myself either not fielding a few of the units or fielding them and then they never made it to the fighting because of low movement. In Echoes, I always wanted to use everyone and they almost all were useful in some small way. This hugely changes the feel of the game for me. I know a lot of people were concerned about there being no pair-up and how that would diminish the feeling of bonds between units, but this game gave me a stronger feeling of togetherness between my army than any other FE game prior has done and it wasnt even in a language I understood! It was just the game mechanics working to tell that story. I always had to keep my army in a tight bunch, both to try and keep them all within their three tile support range and to be close by to attack the enemies who attacked their friends. It feels really great to fight with my whole team, even my armor knights, for the first time.

Compared to Gaiden: I am already a big fan of Gaiden so inevitably I couldnt help but to compare it with the original while I played. Some of these things might not even be noticeable for anyone who didnt play Gaiden but they mattered to me and I want to point them out in any case. First the biggest thing to Gaiden fans: all the buffing and nerfing. Generally, I didnt really notice a lot of the buffs. Clair and Mae were both a lot better units than previously but otherwise I couldnt tell you off the top of my head who else was improved and how. Nerfs were a lot more noticeable: Falcoknights and Dread Fighters, while still amazing, are much less impressive than they used to be. I suppose it makes sense but I cant help but feel disappointed. Gaiden/Echoes pushes rpg elements and is generally a game that seems to encourage grinding, letting the player have overpowered things at endgame seems like it compliments those design decisions. Similarly, they nerfed mummies in a major way. Before they appeared in big groups near the end of both routes for the player to easily grind up the entire party in a very short amount of time if they wanted to do so. Now they appear randomly, run away from you, and when/if you do get to kill them they barely give any exp unless you are extremely underleveled. Its a game where grinding could actually be fun but they dont include any way to level up past level 12 or so without it taking a miserably long time. On the opposite end of things, I really approve of the nerf to warp. Before you could warp any unit to anywhere on the map and it really lent itself to letting Alm’s half become an Alm solo. With it now having a much shorter range, its more encouraging to use your entire army and not just Alm, and I think thats a good thing.

My One Big Fear: This goes hand in hand with my big complaint from last section, but I think this game might just have the scummiest dlc practice of any Nintendo game. The original Gaiden gave players easy access to endgame grinding to level up all their units to max very quickly and easily if they so desired. Echoes changed it so that those enemies now give an insignificant amount of exp and they are selling a new way to grind easily as DLC. That really sucks. Theres nothing else to say than cutting something out of a remake and selling it separately is a really really shitty thing to do. I hope enough people become aware of what they did and protest. DLC practices have gotten progressively worse since Awakening but this is the worst of the bunch, and I really hope this trend doesnt keep going into the Switch FE era. I also am very worried about the money in this game. I did not have nearly enough money to do all the forging that I wanted to do and I am aware that a gold farming dlc is planned. This would be just as shitty of a practice as with exp if the money situation is as bad as it immediately seems because giving everyone forged weapons would make the game more fun, and that fun is blocked by a paywall. That being said, I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now because I didnt do many sidequests, and its possible that theres a lot of money to be earned there or elsewhere and I didnt know it. If in-game gold is actually as rare as it seems and buying a dlc to getit more easily is heavily encouraged then I will be very disappointed.

In conclusion: Theres some seriously troubling aspects of monetization that actually hamper enjoyment of the game, and fatigue and food seem to largely be a waste of time, but that aside Echoes is a fantastic game and a real treat to Gaiden fans and Fire Emblem fans and video game fans in general. Its all around an enormously fun experience that I know will get even better once I get to play it in English.
