i feel like this is one of those phrases that gets so overused in media that whenever i see it it just automatically reads as insincere and a lazy way of trying to say something profound, and maybe im biased since i was in a place where i needed to hear it, but this time around it didnt feel like that. might have made me cry even. whos to say. the story is pretty self contained and simple (by yakuza standards) and ichiban is a nice man so it doesnt come across as it talking down to you?? the scene feels very encouraging and the lack of mean spiritedness in how ichiban talks and carries himself is nice??? i still feel like they set some things up and then subsequently did nothing with them but eh. i think most of my complaints about this game actually kinda boil down to how they spent the entirety of it teetering in between making it feel like a "yakuza game" and dealing with the new game mechanics and direction and not really knowing how to do both at the same time. eh.

this entire last scene gutted me actually. i noticed it back when saeko cries at the club but damn the crying in this game feels so visceral and real like- theyre full on ugly crying on screen. i tried looking back at other crying scenes in past games and the only ones that look and feel like this are kiryus reaction to rikiya getting shot and the nishiki forest scene in y0 (i know the animation is a product of its time too but also specifically with women, comparing sayama crying over ryuji and saeko crying over the soapland owner its like night and day. sayama looked pretty and her tears were barely there, not a grimace or wrinkle in SIGHT, saeko at least was allowed to look "ugly" when she cried) i dont think this scene wouldve hit me as hard as it did if they hadnt made ichi look as distraught as he does (also the vocal performance cuz holly shit? holy shit.)

i knew i was gonna like ichiban, look at him how can you NOT like him? but even while playing the game i didnt think he'd end up leaving that big of an impression on me. but here we are. we really do need more media that revolve around "Adulthood" and how different people cope with and adapt to it, i wish LaD had spent more time on those aspects of the story honestly since with each game it feels like the crime drama parts of it keep trying to get pushed to the backburner, but they still suffocate everything else- no, positives, positives-

im not someone who plays a lot of games so before i picked up any yakuza game id been feeling like Something Was Missing and that something was a piece of media. and then i played yakuza 0 and it was like oh. i guess i live here now. i really do need to start playing more videogames because i feel like its one of the phew mediums where we still constantly get adult protagonists dealing with Adult Things aside from romantic relationships or work without it also just being a parody or a comedy? and it taking itself seriously??

i keep thinking about yakuza 3 and how the game had you be with kiryu as he lived a normal life for a while, it felt like a resting point in his life because, well, it was. and how in yakuza 5 we got to go to work with him and i feel like stuff like that was missing from this game. every domestic and "normal" thing ichiban goes through in this game happens off screen, and for a game thats got friendship and the power of community at its center that feels kind of weird?

not sure how the rest of the fandom feels about y5 and the whole taxi substory and the parts of it you had to do for the main story but i really liked being able to see kiryu get somewhat comfortable in his new environment and do "normal" things. and, as flawed as it is, theres no debating the importance the quiet parts of yakuza 3 had on him and the games that came after it. if y3 hadnt had kiryu interact with the kids as much as it did, if it hadnt had us see how HAPPY he is living with them in okinawa, y5 and y6 wouldnt have hit as hard as their supposed to

in y5 you can even send money to the kids through atm's for christmas presents, and every time you do kiryu sends money thinking of a specific kid and he goes on a small tangent thinking about the things they like and how old they are and sending money according to what he thinks theyll want/need and its like- these are HIS KIDS. he knows their interests he knows their birthdays and even though hes not supposed to exist to them anymore he still wants them to have a good christmas because thats what children deserve thats what HIS children deserve-

i went- kiryu tangent. but back to ichiban, my point was that even in those games where they have the crime drama at the center and are extremely action packed, they still took the time to have kiryu do normal things so when he gets ripped from that you feel it. ichiban didnt get any of that, the crime drama isnt really as all-encompassing as it is in the other games and the "normal" bits of it you gotta hunt down around the map or be TOLD they happened

this was uh, this was supposed to be the Positive Thoughts post so ill get back to that rq. despite all of my barely disguised animosity towards how they didnt balanced the action and the character progressions i really did enjoy the game. i think. i adore ichiban so that counts right? im still real confused about why they established how he can get blinded with rage really easily but then didnt. do anything with that? in fact they kind of go back on it and just have him POSITIVE THOUGHTS POST GRAAAFKASFMPJJO

A perspective for 431 and the confession scene, for those who cant even enjoy fanon anymore

Its not a surprise to see many ppl feel hopeless over BNHA after the release of volume 42 in Japan with the confirmation of 431: More, and while a part of the fandom is focusing on the fanon content -enjoying the art, the fics, the head canons, the jokes-, others seems to also be unable to find happiness with these characters, feeling betrayed and lied to their faces. I understand, I was also angry about a dudebro fantasy even if I was able to enjoy fanon content still, and I want to give some thoughts about 431 after rethinking it a little bit, and pointing out the things that made me hate 431's Midoriya Izuku (and how now I can see something interesting in him).

Considering deku is a total oblivious nerd who pictures stereotypical romantic gestures as the way to be romantic... I want to believe izuku thinks it was as simple as him loving everyone and finding them all as special, bc everyone is, but realized thats not the case, things arent that simple, and he needs to actually DO show this instead of just feeling things on his own.

Like he doesnt show others how important they are in his life accidentally, bc he thought it was as simple as him finding everyone as special -like everyone would already understand it as a given-, and in the end, thats not true, ppl cant read his mind... he basically lost his high school best friend BC he thought that was "enough", and from now on he wants to keep talking to her.

"If everyone is special it means nobody is special", this phrase confused him at first, but now... he understands a part of it. Bc he treats everyone as special nobody actually knows nor feels special with him -if everyone is special = he treats everyone the same = everyone thinks they dont matter to him-, and I think this works well with his expression after realizing something while looking at her. It wasn't a loving look but a concerned one, I labelled before as an "oh shit-!" moment instead; him realizing how he actually didnt make the effort to show how he cares about her in these years, how "nobody is special bc everyone is special" means he has to DO show the ppl in his life a particular care too, instead of just assume they know. Bc he doesnt think highly of himself, he didnt even think about ppl feeling like he doesnt care much about them, to the point that Ochako doesnt even feel like she can talk to him even tho they were close in high school. She had to do that work, and once she is too busy he doesnt even think about contacting her first -and thats not fair, bc she is special to him too! She's his friend, not a random person, and these class reunions arent enough to convey that message.

I believe he feels included and cared for in these reunions, and assumes everyone also is able to feel his love for everyone even if he doesnt talk to them -and thats just not the case, he has to do more for his friendships and not just save them when they need it.

It felt weird to me how the phrase in the "confession" went, "I love everyone, and everyone is special, and I thought it was as simple as that, but from now on too I want to talk to you more", bc he doesnt say shes special explicitly and he seems to go into a "different route" -its an interpretation, and you can see it that way ofc-, but Deku isnt the type of person to be vague when actively confessing something. Its not him being embarrassed and afraid to say those words, he is confident in that and doesnt feel shy about it, and only blushes when shes on him all of the sudden, and I just cant see him as a "confident dude about romance who confesses like its nothing without saying the words", nor "had a sudden burst of confidence to confess romantic feelings", bc he didnt. He didnt confess romantic feelings, nor felt shy about what he said.

This is one of the main reasons why I saw him as "Midoriya, the bro version", bc Izuku would never treat romantic feelings like that! If he was actually confessing a romantic love, I think it would make more sense to be shy about it (maybe struggle to look at her at first, and then confess while looking at her in the eye, or saying it loudly with his eyes closed, yk?), especially bc 431 goes out of its way to tell us how Izuku as an adult is STILL oblivious to what other ppl feel about him or wanting to be close to him. He wouldnt be confident about it, bc he would assume Ochako does not like him -and you know what? You can work with that to make a cute romantic and fun scene! It doesnt take away from the romance at all and would explain why he would not think about her in that way previously ("he didnt even think he had a chance in the first place, nor that ochako would be into a guy like him"), but that didnt happen.

Considering he heard Jirou and Kaminari rejecting the idea of them dating, while expressing how it feels comforting to be close, like in high school, and this works as the framework for the last scene... It doesnt feel like Deku thought about forming a romantic connection with Ochako, but instead wanted to express how he does want her in his life instead of fading in the background, bc he cares even if others dont feel cared for. He is trying to change things for the better in his relationships.

This also can work with what he told Katsuki before saying goodbye, inviting him into a special quest lecture about communication -he doesnt need to reconnect with him bc they never accidentally lost it, but still he wants to develop their relationship more by offering that lecture about communication, the thing they struggle with the most (specially Katsuki from his perspective who, for all his triumphs, uses a too cryptic language for Izuku, making him confused when he wants to understand him)-. I think he thinks Katsuki of all ppl knows exactly how Izuku feels about him, as his closest one, but still he wants to understand him more without pressuring him, and expresses this by involving him into his new work/passion (?), without any doubts about it.

In 431 I think we see how they tried to make it look romantic but the actual contents are... pretty platonic. Its a strange mix, and makes me wonder if this was truly something asked by an editor or something, "an izuku and ochako focused chapter as the extra", bc it never actually commits to it. Its hard to tell, specially considering the leakers made us believe they were confessing true love -and even that Katsuki and Tsuyu were being a wingmen!-, that they held hands while shoujo bubbles appeared, that Izuku confessed his love for her... And that wasn't the actual content. Instead, the confession can be understood as completely platonic thanks to the narrative contexts (deku is clueless, jirou and kaminari are not dating and feel comfort with each other, memories of high school, them being made to not talk to each other that much/at all after high school, himiko's love not being exclusively romantic [as in she understands different kinds of love even if she calls them the same; she loved ochako and deku, she loved the league of villains, she loved tsuyu, etc, but they weren't the same types of love]), and the handhold looks more like a promise than a romantic one.

If someone wants to see it as a romantic promise, sure, im nobody to tell them they cant, however I prefer to see it as 3 promises, actually: one to both of them, to keep talking from now on and not lose contact; two izuku to himself, a promise to start showing everyone how special they are to him with his actions; three ochako to himiko, a promise to start living her life and showing her love like she did with the ppl around her (Twice, Dabi, Shigaraki, Spinner, Magne, Tsuyu...). To start having agency and keep the ppl in her life with her, instead of overworking herself and letting others get away from her (she made sure to also express that love and care, being really friendly genuinely and acting to be friends, while Ochako doesnt show that commitment to her friendships like that, as we only see her talking with Tsuyu, who does show up for her always). Promises to make sure they can express the love they feel for others, without being limited by a particular type of love.

I argued previously that both Himiko and Ochako have a theme about pure love, in the way they just love different ppl no matter how weird that is. I think this can work fine, while also making her character conclusion feel less... insulting, tbh, as in Himiko was the one helping her to choose a life with conform and letting herself be close to others, and the first action she does for this is agreeing with deku into talking to each other more from now on -just like kaminari and jirou felt when they saw their agencies would be close to each other. They arent lovers, and at the same time is nostalgic and warm to have the other by their side, their presence being closer than before.

This also works with the choice of closing off the possibility of Denki and Kyouka dating, showing that yeah, its a little embarrassing to think about that option for them, but what matters is their friendship and how its nice to have each other in contact while being a man and a woman. It looks random, but in this context I do get a purpose, while the romantic izuku and ochako interpretation makes it way more sloppy.

Choosing to make heroes disappear and keep the ranking system is the most difficult choice to understand, but I could see it as the whole narrative adapting to focus on what the characters need at the moment: to be closer to the ppl they care about, and express those feelings without the fear of being a burden for your friends. Like the story's world adapts to it in order to become a slice of life lol. The ranking system thing also takes away from the only "positive" quality it had in the story, the competition for Katsuki and Izuku; they cant focus on that, and they dont, so instead Katsuki needs to have a different goal in the story (which honestly... its clear it involves Izuku, textually multiple times expressed), while Izuku has found a new thing to do, start considering how others want to be special in his life, bc he is special. To think more highly of himself.

Katsuki is the character that leaves without a clear way of life for himself after 431, so it would make sense to explore more about his future (but I wont go as far as to say the one shot is going to be about him).

This also explains why Ochako feels weird about talking to him, like shes waiting for him to show an interest in talking to her instead of her being the one interacting first -when he wasn't in the hero field she was able to focus on her goals and thats it, mostly talking to others in a work context, but once he starts using the suit that means she is reminded of how unable she is of actually live her life and stay in contact with the friend she cared about, how she cant express "hey, I want to talk to you more!" like its nothing bc its been years, its not casual anymore. Also, thinking about someone and then all of the sudden they appear saying exactly what you were thinking about (to talk more) while you keep thinking about the cutest girl in the world telling you how she loves you and you should take the chance to live your life and love how you love, yeah, I would also be embarrassed. Her not knowing how to deal with the awkwardness of that conversation feels better to me.

But well, this is just me, I understand this part is also difficult to understand, but I still feel like like its better, to me, than "ochako loved him since she was 15 and never got over it but never thought about him until he got the suit and also doesn't even try to confess just agrees to talk more and himiko is the queer character pushing her to live a hetero life". I think its clear Ochako's issue was far more complex than her not accepting a crush on a boy, but believing her feelings, wants and needs are a burden to everyone, and 429 showed us how it was never about her hiding her crush or whatever the thing that was breaking her. Here she isnt breaking, but is emotional about what Himiko tells her and taking the steps to love like Himiko did -honestly, openly, expressing what she wanted from others clearly and with no doubts-.

What we see in the scene, with her accepting her words and Izuku's idea of reconnecting (which is shown to be open to rejection: this is the state of their friendship, where Izuku also understands Ochako could not want to talk to him more and just stay as old classmates instead; Deku isnt trying to be "subtle" and confess some romance, no with that body language, and instead is reaching out to reconnect their friendship, bc they arent close anymore; Ochako picturing heir moment of being happy together as them in high school also fits into this, along with her narration about her starting to see him more after the suit: they weren't really meeting before, and now they weren't talking, she just saw him more), isnt her wanting to now date him or express her romantic love since high school; for me to believe that, I would add her being "yes, I want to talk to you more from now on, but I want to be clear too: I fell in love with you, and want to date you". Again this could turn into a cute scene, with her having that agency to confess in a way that could fit them and Deku all embarrassed like "huh??!? you l-l-l-l-love m-m-m-me?!?", and laughing about the obliviousness, but instead the act of agency is her agreeing with talking to each other more, and deciding to make the bro hold -she decided to make the promise, and from my perspective, its to herself and Himiko.

This is the end of their relationship in the manga, with a promise that yeah, its to each other, but isnt about romantic feelings; they dont express an explicit romantic interest for their future and instead are made to not really talk to each other in these years during the time skip, making their friendship feel awkward and in need of both of them agreeing to talk to each other more.

I still haven't seen a single post explaining how the romantic interpretation is able to fill these holes (why would Katsuki be not happy and worried, why would they shut down kaminari and jirou as a couple, why would they bring up the villains and living to the fullest, why is izuku acting like that if thats a supposedly love confession from his part, why is he looking at her like that when its supposedly a "romantic look", why do they make a bro hold instead of holding hands in a romantic way, why making ochako and deku not talk in years, being their last nice moment together in high school, why does she only remembers she "loves" him after she sees him with the suit, why doesnt she confess first even after knowing he wants her in her life + himiko tells her to love how she wants, why would deku think katsuki is talking about romantic love, why would katsuki talk about romantic love in that context then, a long etc)

I prefer to think this love isnt romantic love, and while there are still tons of issues with the story at least I can understand why these decisions could fit there -reading the romantic interpretation, nothing made sense to me, and the characters just weren't themselves.

I can find peace with this instead, and I hope others also are able to calm down a little with me too -I have received for months now asks claiming many things, I want to answer them all with patience and care (mostly towards the nice ones/supportive ones/etc), and I dont think its okay for me to be seen as someone who supports the romantic interpretation of 431, when I believe is extremely wrong in so many levels.

I hope more ppl are able to enjoy the characters they love, and if leaving BNHA is the right decision for you, I hope things go well with you too. Just choose what calms your heart more in the long run.

In case you havent, the gist of it is that for a lot of elisatod shippers (and for a lot of the people in charge of the more recent german-language productions) one of the biggest appeals of their dynamic is this idea that death doesnt love anyone except for Elisabeth which makes her special, whereas with todolf its more like. Im having a hard time summarizing it in my own words, I guess i personally would say that its literally just the inverse where todolf shippers think that death has a romantic relationship with everyone (or at least everyone who thinks a lot about death and dying) so the 'specialness' of it doesnt matter/doesnt factor into it, its basically just about their dynamic in a vacuum, but i dont think thats what the post was saying ? Whatever, we're talking about elisatod rn so it really doesnt matter

So, for me the most important thing about the love between Elisabeth and der Tod is that its pretty much unrequited until the moment she dies. Like, we have a brief moment of mutual interest when they first meet and she sings the little Wie Du reprise and (in the 1992 prod) he gives her this suggestive look after shes done, but after that its basically all him pursing her when she clearly does not want that, until Rudolf wo bist du where she is finally ready to give into him, but now he doesnt want her, and then they only really fall in mutual love when she dies and they basically have no other choice. This friction where they can never really be in mutual love because Elisabeth never wants to lose her agency or control over her life until she doesnt and tries to give it up, and Tod only "wants" her when shes clinging on to life and rejecting him, is the core of their relationship.

Now, you'll notice that i put the word 'wants' in quotes when i was talking about Tod and thats because i dont think he, as originally witten in the vienna productions, is capable of wanting anything because hes not a person, hes a reflection of the people around him and because of that, his behaviour in any given scene is determined by the context around him. I know thats kind of a clunky way of phrasing that, but I have to do describe it in such a broad and vague way because his behaviour is really not consistant. For an example of what Im talking about, in Elisabeth mach auf mein Engel, he tells Elisabeth that he loves her but hes only doing that in contrast to Franz Joseph; her husband comes up to her trying to burden her with his own problems when she's feeling bad and in need of comfort herself, meanwhile death is offering her unconditional love. Another example that I like is in Die Schatten werden länger reprise, where he has to start the song because Rudolf is too paralysed by fear to articulate his feelings until he has his support

But the moment of death's behaviour being influenced by the people hes interacting with that I find the most interesting, is his introduction during the prologue where the people he's interacting with are the audience. Because during that part of the song, hes essentially playing into the audience's expectation that Elisabeth and death will be a traditional soft tragic romance, hes talking about her in a very gentle and wistful way and in way that subtly implies that she was the only person he ever loved, but then during the actual story, hes treating her very aggressively and their relationship is honestly pretty unpleasant, and we can clearly see that she was not the only person he ever loved because his and Rudolf's relationship is just as intense in a similar overtly romantic way (and arguably more so because its mutual and requited). But then obviously we got Kein Kommen ohne Gehen which essentially contradicts all of this and severely clashes with the entire rest of the elisatod relatio ship, but its late and if i start complaining about that, Im gonna add another 2 paragraphs to this post

So yeah, these are some of my thoughts about elisatod, i have a lot more but its 2am and i just soent two hours writing this and I can feel my brain turn into mush, so yeabh. please let me know what you think

ok i'll type out my "asriel's castle town" theory properly

i think that asriel created castle town, not necessarily that he made the fountain but that his stuff makes up the actual world of the castle town. castle town is in a storage closet, but unlike the 2 proper dark worlds, it doesnt have anything that's actually themed like a storage closet. really the only things in it are ralsei and his castle (and the other buildings). we know that there is stuff in the storage room, since we're supposed to be getting supplies from it, so why is there no "chalky the stick of chalk" darkner or whatever

i mostly got thinking about it because of these ⬆ flavor texts when you look at asriel's computer. its obviously a reference to undertale, but the phrasing of "never saw the light of day" makes me wonder if it has something to do with the dark worlds.

(if chapter 3 takes place in the whole house and not just the tv, then i guess we'll see) (its also possible that the creature with rainbow wings was spamton neo, but come on its 100x more likely that was from mettaton)

asriel was clearly working on this game in high school, the same school that the castle town dark world is in. and with games, comes art. we know that asriel draws (dragons), so my thinking is that whatever concept art he was drawing at school was left in the storage closet and became the town. (alvin's artwork is also left in the school so this is not out of the question). this would also explain why ralsei behaves so much more like a video game character than the others. hes in a video game within a video game. (i like headband theory as well, but ralsei's name alone is enough to imply that asriel also had a hand in whatever he is)

the way these buildings ⬆ are so paper-like and the fact that one of them is literally marked [?] screams unfinished concept art to me. ralsei lives in an unfinished castle, why ? it's fun from a gameplay perspective to see it grow and develop, so it might not need a lore reason, but it is suspicious. the king of spades and queen both have fully developed castles, with history and everything, despite their dark worlds being created potentially minutes before we enter them. so if ralsei's castle if unfinished, maybe that's because it was created from an unfinished castle (drawing of one). in fact the only thing we ever see in the light world storage room is the papers of the floor. papers of what ?

it might be wishful thinking because i think it would be cool, but it also just makes a lot of sense to me. like of course the gamer and dragon drawer kid would be making sketchy maps in class of medieval castles, and some self insert dark prince equipped with an Ancient Prophecy

(the fact that ralsei seems to be the only one who knows the prophecy makes me wonder how real it even is but i cant think about that now)

chewing gum she shares it (if you have a chewing stim) and thinks its fun/cute when you echo back the pops after she blows a bubble. it causes her to break character when shes trying to be cool in the moment but she doesnt hold it against you.

insults and swearing she has a habit of cursing that she doesnt intent to break and she makes a lot of creative insulting comments during a fight, the kind to taunt her opponents and be cocky when she starts or wins a brawl. so when you echo back a phrase or word she uses she takes it as feedback for either how rediculous she sounded or how good of a line it was. this means she'll occaionally respond with "i'll workshop that one", "alright not my best", "yeah that sounded better in my head", or the ocasional smirk and chuckle. sometimes even feeling encouraged to make more insults to see which ones stick with you when you hear them. though she isnt sure how she feels when she hears you repeating her cursing.

bite of love shes gotten used to you biting her randomly. she'll tease you about it like calling you her little shark. "worried i'll run into trouble sharky?" knows better than to put her arm or hand near your face cuz you will bite her. but also isnt all that surprised if you come up and bite her anyway. if she needs her hand she'll give you a kiss on the head to return the affection.

earbud to earbud shares her headphones and music with you if you need sound input to stim. lets you pick the songs for a trip, probably has a playlist just for the two of you. she'll actually give you her earbuds and sit you down with her phone somewhere so you can have a moment to yourself if you get overstimulated

out of sight out of mind her adhd bounces off yours, something goes missing and you check with each other, you probably find each others things lying around and pick it up only to forget you have it until the other goes looking for it. "have you seen my gloves?" "yeah theyre in my bag" if she sees you get distracted and abandon one task for another she'll drop and forget her task to help with the task you just left out and it circles.

pacing she paces a lot when shes lost in thought so when she sees you pacing her first thought is you might be overthinking and not that youre stimming with movement.

fidgets she probably has fidget toys incase you need one, but also doesnt mind just giving you her hand or something of hers to fidget with. more often than not when youre holding hands youre actually playing with the fingerless gloves shes wearing.

What makes the "non binary" women so annoying is that they don't even do anything gender non conforming. Like I've never met a they/them girl not in a long term relationship with a man. In fact I normally meet them THROUGH completely straight "normie" male friends who are their bfs. And they act like it's self evident they're a they/them. And as I don't remotely buy it I keep getting their pronouns wrong. You know they don't do this stuff at work too 🙄 like do something *actually* gender non confirming other than clothes or using the phrase they/them. I dont get it? In fact, weirdly enough I find totally "normie" straight women straight up dolled up in loads of makeup often are much much more likely to break gender norms in ACTION than they/thems. You know, because they lift up other women (mentoring into leadership roles, hell just being supportive) rather than they thems who insist they're they're women. Often these "normie" women do gender non confirming things all the time but that doesnt count if you own a skirt and have large boobs. The they thems are honestly so alienated from their bodies which is so unhealthy. I feel like I'm on eggshells around they thems. Around "normie" women of all stripes i feel I can often get a shared female moment which is really special, we really do look out for each other, hell sometimes you're the only two women in a room and it's a great convo starter. Random women have always looked out for me and I try to do the same right back. Around they/thems I have to be as aloof as i am with a man (more aloof if anything) you have to pretend they're not a woman or discuss literally anything about biological sex or gender. Which yknow is part of life... and feels super self censoring?! Hell I even sometimes discuss sex and gender issues with men (not like super deeply). It's honestly straining to talk to they thems cos you have to constantly remember they them and use gender neutral terms for everything. And they don't like also if you express any joy related to being a woman (okay you don't like yourself but that's not my problem).

I can say to a guy "I am happy being a woman" and even him, a man won't find fault with it. They thems wear me out. I don't have any interest in being friends with a they/them cos being a woman is a central part of my life. I honestly am so happy i am straight cos even if never date a man for the rest of my life people just take one look at me, know I am obviously not remotely in lgbtq culture in any way whatsoever and that gets me a free pass on not knowing any terminology even though I was literally right there on tumblr seeing it get written in real time. I don't know how I emanate this "don't know lgbt stuff" energy so well cos I don't wear makeup, don't shave, act very dominant and masculine etc. But never ever they themed. That sounds exhausting to have to deal with that many gender ideologues, I'm sorry. Are they really that common? Maybe I haven't encountered as many because of my line of work. Or maybe my age. This stuff was unheard of when I was in school in the 90's and early 00's, we didn't even have a GSA and there were no out LGB people that I knew of personally and I didn't even know what transgender was until after I graduated in 08. I get what you mean about these people not even being gender nonconforming at all, especially wrt actual behavior and gender roles. It's just an abstract concept or aesthetic to them. I've known quite a few and even dated (briefly thank god) a very feminine woman who used she/they pronouns who questioned my gender several times. I once overheard her friends talking about me and asking if I'm a boy because I "look like one" despite me introducing myself as her girlfriend. She also gave me shit about my "genital preference" and said I shouldn't talk about it because it hurts transwomen and said that "not all lesbians" only like vagina. I went off on her about it which led to us breaking up and then she went around telling people at our workplace that I was a "closed-minded, anti-dick" TERF. So that was fun. I still chide myself for not confronting her about it. And you're right lol, most of these types of women are into men, she went back to dating men after me despite claiming she was a lesbian while we dated. Didn't surprise me one bit.

I don't know how you find the patience to humor these people with their pronouns lol, I only do it if I have to like at work or to maintain the peace between me and friends of friends or friends of family. I'm not afraid to be honest with or even disliked by strangers or people I don't care for.

idk about translations or anything like that -but the attempt for Ochako explaining her pain after Himiko died feels so... analytical in English. It feels anticlimactic in comparison to the fan translation by Pikahlua, and it kind of makes a reference to her feelings for Izuku? Which doesnt have to be a bad thing, but it is weird to me to change it like that -idk if the official English translator was thinking about "preparing" the audience or something??

Idk if im just looking into things but when I read it it felt bad to me, so I checked the official Spanish translation to see if it also made a reference to past actions:

Fan translation: That's why... I'll put away even this wound that hurts all the time.

Official English translation: That's why... just like before, I'm dealing with this lasting pain... by shutting it all away.

Official Spanish translation: That's why... I've been repressing it... this wound and its pain...

Im guessing my problem comes from the over explanation that shifts the focus into, what I think is, the wrong thing: the official EN makes you focus on how she shut down her feelings for Izuku and how she is doing it again, while the fan translation and the SP are more about her repressing/pushing away specifically her pain for Himiko represented by her wound.

EDIT: I know she does have more moments where she cries when she's alone or with her parents only, I know, but lets be real, that paired with the shutting it away + Izuku appearing in the end makes you think more of that scene instead.

We understand then that the stab makes her unable to forget her, and thinks about a crying and smiling Toga during her sacrifice, while the official EN kind of forgets about it? It feels less powerful to me by skipping a mention of the wound, and by adding "just like before" it makes it look like her putting away her feelings for Izuku left a "lasting pain" at the same level of Himiko Toga dying, which. That's just wild to me?? As if her not confessing was causing her a lasting pain???? IN THE SAME LEVEL AS GRIEVING??

Under the cut im going to ramble a little more about the meaning of the stab wound:

When Himiko stabbed her, she fundamentally rejected Ochako.She claimed they were built different, and while ppl like her are able to live blessed lives happily, their rules dont allow ppl like Toga to even be close to that, and just get pitied instead. She did it angered and with flashing images of all the people who rejected her and pitied her existence going thru her mind; in that moment she cant see her caring for her genuinely, or even loving her as she "already" rejected her when she didnt understand her phrase "what do you wanna do to me?",too.

Even tho it was an action to get her away and to push her feelings down -her own love for Ochako, and instead focus on a villain like goal even tho all she has wanted is be herself happily- Ochako doesn't see it that way.

So, Himiko stabs her screaming to not be pitied, and Ochako keeps pushing it, going against what she thinks in order to be honest with her own feelings. Ochako's fear and sadness from before is revealed then to be related to not understanding Himiko's genuinely happiness. She finds inspiration in her and, I argue probably also Izuku, to then declare what she loves with her whole face: her lovely smile, and how much she wishes to be able to be like that too. Free like her.

What is that stab for her, when she sees the sacrificing Himiko? Because in that part she explains about loving someone to the point of giving herself her blood instead of taking it, I believe this is the face of pure reciprocal love. I wondered while reading the leaks why not choosing the "you think im cute?" face instead where she has the biggest smile, so my idea is that it represents something different. That moment was about Himiko being loved by Ochako, and the other about Ochako being loved by Himiko, using each other's languages -Ochako offers her blood not because Himiko needs it to survive literally, but because that's the way she can get closer to the other person; when she tells her she is the cutest in the world Himiko finds for the first time the love she always looked for without even asking for it.

Himiko gives her blood because she can't live in a world without her, but also because for Ochako sacrificing yourself for someone else its what she admires and loves. The best part about this is how they both arent doing it because they "have" to, their hearts already wish this and to do something for the other. It's genuine, it's heartwarming, and so bittersweet.

When Ochako feels that pain, she doesn't see an angry Himiko, or a sad Himiko, she sees Himiko doing an act of love for her. And that just hurts even more.
