the best kpop songs you've (probably) never heard

the title is there to sound good, if you are an individual with taste who happens to listen to a lot of 2nd gen and nugu 4th gen girl group music then there is a high likelihood you will know many of the songs on this list. also omfg if any of these songs are like globally known smash hits that everyone and their mother knows im sorry lol im just dumb and late to the party apparently. (1) Someone Like U - Dalshabet

On the fateful day that spotify snuck this banger into my queue after my daily five hours of streaming SNSD music, my life was forever altered - something shifted in my cranium, the veil was pulled from over my eyes, and I was introduced to probably thee most underrated 2nd gen banger known to man. I was going to say this is one for the SNSD stans, but to be honest, this one is for the stans of good music. 'Someone Like U' is jazzy, anthemic, and quintessential kpop. And to the OG Dalshabet stans... how does it feel to know you have superior taste xx

(2) UN-NORMAL - Queenz Eye

This is such an if-you-know-you-know type of track, the few people I've talked to on discord or whatever who know of this song are obsessed - you either know it and love it or don't know of it and thus exist in the before times, because there is only before Un-Normal and after Un-Normal. I'm slowly realising that I just really love it when kpop does jazz because this is another banger along those lines. Now that I think about this kind of takes notes from AEAO, and I know for a fact you love that song, so go give this one a stream.

(3) Joker - Dalshabet

Yes, another Dalshabet song, because THEY DESERVE THEIR FLOWERS. Like 'Someone Like U', 'Joker' also has that jazz-meets-girlpop edge that we love but with a little more sass and spirited confidence. In 'Joker' the girls aren't as much calling for the attention of the audience, but implicitly demanding it. What I would've given to have been a kpop stan when dalshabet were making music. What could have been.

(4) Colors - LOONA

(this is the obligatory reminder that there is a boycott going on against LOONA content to protest Blockberry Creative's actions towards the girls - please stream LOONA music via the twelveM account or the loona podcast on spotify, and dont watch official LOONA content on youtube either. thanks xx)

This is your once a post reminder that I am in fact a die hard orbit, and this track from the '[X X]' album lingers in my playlist month after month, so I had to include it. Filled with airy vocals from the members, distorted vocaloid decorating the background of the soundscape, along with all the classic bells and whistles we know and love from this group, 'Colors' is classic, quintessential LOONA. Give her a (boycott friendly of course) stream, and experience rookie era LOONA in all their glory.

(5) Chiyu - tripleS

This song dropped only a couple of months ago with the rest of the '<ASSEMBLE24>' album, and while the tracklist as a whole was stellar, 'Chiyu' is utterly gorgeous. Ethereal and hypnotic, giving this song a listen late at night with headphones is a deeply spiritual experience. tripleS are really the ones to watch in the 5th generation, and 'Chiyu' makes that blatantly clear. You probably heard the title track 'Girls Never Die', and if you ventured into the realm of the b-sides you probably remember the upbeat anthems like '24' and 'Heart Raider', but if you let this one pass you by, I would highly recommend another listen. This is making it onto my 'best of 2024' list for sure.

hi is it possible to tell if there is a spirit attached to an item? I have bought to beautiful porcelean dolls off ebay, one supposedly haunted and the other was just a normal doll that I liked. I have a few other vintage items like a sewing machine and also a chair that my step grandpa had passed away on but again havent experienced anything remotely unusual :/

I had been reading about this and watching videos of youtubers who have "haunted" items, I dont know if I 100% believe it as I havent experienced anything paranormal bar a few times in my younger years but thats about it. Im quite interested in the topic of life after death even if it seems morbid lol. hope ur doing well and thanks in advance if u can reply!

Hmm okay. Let's start from the beginning: do you believe in spirituality? In the existance of a spirit world around you at this moment, guiding you and protecting you and all, or not? Cause it all starts from there imo. What I mean is: there's no really need to think about life after death, if there are already spirits/souls around you at this time in the 5d (which doesn't mean they cannot interact with you in the 3d)... or I am just seeing this differently from you? And I don't mean this in a way "I am wrong you are right" or viceversa, it's just about what you believe inside of you. We have no scientific proofs about this so it all is up to what each one of us believes. And maybe about our personal experiences too, and what reasons we give to those experiences (coincidences, fate, spirits...).

It also depends on your definition of paranormal. What is paranormal to you? Again, I think it depends on each of us and what we believe, that's why I am asking you. For me, a paranormal experience can just be thinking about a song I haven't been listening in ages and then having Spotify suddenly playing it for me; or flickering lights/my computer glitching around me when I channel something or my pendulum moving to give me answers; or smelling something specific... I could give you loads of examples. But maybe for you all this is not paranormal, this is just coincidences or electricity stuff or whatever else, and you only define paranormal an object moving with no one around. Or seeing a ghost, idk.

Now: the fact that you haven't experienced anything paranormal (according on your definition of paranormal -let's suppose is the second-) or only having had a couple of experiences in your life for you means that paranormal is not real or that can it be real anyway? Do you need to experience something (and also something specific like Idk that doll moving her eyes, or seeing your granpa on that chair, eg.) to affirm it can be possible or you can believe it anyway? Do you need to have constant displays or not? And of which kind they need to be (if you need them)?

After having analyzed all this, and decided if according to you there's a chance for spirits to exist at this time and act around you in any way (and what you can define paranormal), then you can go on and ask yourself if you can possibly believe that a spirit may be attached to an item (or if there's a chance for this to happen). I wouldn't trust that much youtubers on this (at least not all), cause you know when it comes to those entertainment platforms, people can make up things just to gain from views. And trust me if I say that many of those people can do anything in order to get as many views as possible and gain from others (and there are tricks too, in case they need to make a point). For what I believe and what I am getting, there's a chance for a spirit or someone's souls to be attached to an item. It doesn't have to be an old item though, it can also be recent. It depends both on the value it had for that soul during their 3d life, and also on if something (or someone) connected them to the item in any way. I personally don't like porcelain dolls, they make me very uncomfortable for the way they look, but it doesn't mean that all of them are haunted or possessed. And as for a way of saying with certainty if an item is possessed or not, it's probably best not to know, even more if it's not your grandpa's chair we're talking about but a random object you decided to buy online. You never know the nature of the spirit attached to them and why it got attached, if it got attached ofc (given that you believe in spirituality and what it is all about, ofc). So yeah, it depends on what you believe and what you want to believe too: nobody can say that you're stupid for believing in life after death or in the fact that a spirit is living in your doll. And just know that if anything is supposed to show up to you, it will anyway. It's just better to not force it.

Last song you listened to: havent been listening to music so much bc ive been playing videos instead but my last.fm has all my spotify listens so itll stay up to date on whatever i listened to last. currently seems to be “please play-bite” by pinocchioP. i often just let spotify play me whatever it recommends anyhow so theres variance. and i only started this account like a few months ago max so its not really a full picture of my music-listening

Last movie (in theaters): its not really a movie, but if it counts, the first ginga nagareboshi gin stageplay (recorded and released in finland in theaters with subs)

ginga was always huge in finland for some reason. idk. the anime is so violent though that i got really afraid of bears for some reason. theres so much blood... i never read the manga either i just knew of the anime and partook in my share of wolf roleplays (dogs were uncool! so i didnt do dog roleplays. iirc that really was my reason).

Last series I watched: trigun stampede. even changed my phone bg into vash... but millions knives is probably my favourite. he just does everything wrong and makes his life worse. and everyone elses life too bc he sucks. but hes multifaceted so hes also my meow meow and whatever. i hope a ford explorer drives over him

if it counts though, ive seen some star trek TOS episodes and movies because my friends have been watching them. im not super into it but its always fun to hang. i also dont watch a lot of stuff. i dont even know what i do. guy who doesnt read or watch things but listens to jerma videos on youtube without actually looking at them while i “draw” and “write”

Craving: food honestly. i should cook something lmfao. i also want soda so bad but i dont have any. id make some tea but its disgustingly warm in my house so i only want cool drinks. could kill for a nice milkshake or a smoothie rn i think

Tea or coffee: tea... im the only finnish person who doesnt drink coffee for real. also got really into loose leaf tea bc i befriended a chinese lady who is really into tea and has a tea shop in the city near where i live

Currently working on: drawing this and trying to think how i want to do it. somehow want to incorporate flat colours and maybe shade his body naturally, and make the blood look realistic instead of flat colours... hmm not sure yet what i want to do

other than that im trying to proofread the chapter of my ryanyuri fanfic i already published because theres a lot of typos and strange sentences in there but its been a chore bc my body breaks down when it gets too warm smfh... not looking forward to when my apt goes over 30 degrees celsius it is unlivable. im also trying to complete a “lookbook” of my tnb sims. but i always start huge projects that take three million years to complete and im really slow lmfao

youtube recs definitely accelerate the fall into kpop LOL normally i would say that yt algorithm could be a negative thing but with kpop it feeds me exactly what it knows i want to see 😂 also me too, i kinda wrote xdh off after their debut bc their debut song wasnt rly my favorite, but i love some of their more recent songs! i liked test me too if u havent heard that one. also i just rly like kbands :D makes me miss day6 haha. p1h is so good, they have some great b-sides in the prev albums that i love too. if you use spotify, what was your #1 on your wrapped? (or yt music or whatever u use) for me it was child by mark and let me tell u i literally looped that song on repeat for days on end LOL

i have listened to a few of ive’s songs and i really liked them too like love dive and eleven!! le sserafim’s no celestial was also rly good on their recent album (i havent listened to all of it though). i also like some of itzy’s songs :)

I miss day6 too, I know they're still doing stuff with music but it's really not the same without Jae. I do use Spotify btw, my top song was scrawny by the wallows and I'm pretty sure my top artist was lemon demon. The first kpop song on the list was aespa's iconic at number six though. And I think you'll be pleased to know I keep listening to xdh lol

I've always had cats, I think six total, including the ones we have now? Scooby is easily the oldest I've ever had though, he's around seventeen. And yeah animals socialize better earlier in life but depending on how you introduce them and the animals individual personality it could easily be done later in life. Scooby was on the streets before we adopted him and so even after we bought him home and he'd get angry when we even just came in smelling like other cats but he's perfectly fine with having other cats in the household. I do think I prefer cats because while they can get just as needy I'm way more used to caring for them compared to dogs. In short don't let your dreams be dreams lol

the pressure of being an artist in the midst of everything around you.

releasing my album queen of misfits and witnessing its reception was probably the biggest turning point. i had released previously love letters: colourless which was met with a very mild response and i thought perhaps i had already peaked somehow. i dont even think its wise to think of art as having apexes now, i've completely abandoned that way of thinking. instead i think that art is just a continuous journey. sometimes ppl love where youre at and sometimes not as much. it's whatever. but upon seeing the reception to colourless, i decided i'd do whatever i felt like instead of being super worried about what people wanted from me. so i made queen of misfits. and THAT is what started this path. this path im talking about is rlly the concept of being seen by people.

prior to queen of misfits, i didn't have a ton of actual pressure. i lived with my family, i was still going to school, and i didn't really have a big following comparatively. it was just a series of trial and error. i found these genre niches that i really loved and that incorporated my inspirations a lot. so things were pretty simple until i got kicked out in mid-2019 and had to quickly adapt. this was while i was working on queen of misfits.

the reception of the rebellious popstar 'trixie is trans' album was so monumental it was overwhelming. suddenly i had a lot more eyes on me than ever before. im a somewhat quiet, introverted kid from the bay area. suddenly having an insane amount of attention was quite daunting. ya i like having brief moments of attention where i spout of something funny on twitter and ppl hate me or love me for it. thats fine. but now having this very dedicated or otherwise very scrutinizing mass of people now watching my every musical move is really really really scary to me. and i say "is", because it still is. i've not left this in the past.

all of this became exponentially so once CUTIEMARKS, which brought attention from all corners of the internet. im grateful for the positive and loving response ive gotten for it, but now. But now????? jesus christ. i'm at almost 40,000 subscribers on youtube. i have roughly 40,000 monthly listeners on spotify. my patreon list wont fit in video descriptions anymore. and what 13,500 followers on Twitter? maybe this is small for some metrics, but to me, im terrified. i try to feign confidence and firebrandedness, but this is getting so scary lol.

fish whisperer is an album that's meant to be musically ambitious, complex, multilayered, and multifaceted. im sure it's going to be received well by the more dedicated music connoisseurs and critics, because it was written to cater to them.

but after that?

this is the weight of the artist. i'm terrified. i wanna go back to making music however i want to. but now i have all these pressures and all these eyes on me. beforehand, it felt like if i released something considered "underwhelming" that its fine bc i just make music for me and this small community of listeners and thats it. now it feels like i require some saving grace mindset. there are lots of people who will be quick to say "be true to yourself" and "do whatever you want, it's your music" and that's all very true. but i'm still so scared. i dont really have an answer right now. i think it's going to take making more music and hearing more opinions to actually discover one. but right now im overwhelmed. i dont know what to do. maybe im overthinking it? gosh i dont know.

but despite all of these things, im humbled, grateful, and lovingly thankful to everyone whos supported me and listened to my music. from the pirates and their codes, to the patrons and their hearts, and the listeners and their voices of encouragement. i always read so much ab what my music has done for other ppl. but you have no idea what listening and supporting does for me. at the end of the day, having so many people love what i do isn't a bad thing.

it's simply a weight. which falls onto my shoulders. like an angel.

HEHEHEHE of course you'd ask for the mans himself- This post wont make sense to anyone but you or me but here we go!!

First of all, you have unlocked a freshly cleaned up playlist. (Though, while it used to just be Wither-Grian, it's now very much in Wither/Watcher/sort of Deity/Headcanon Grian territory lol. It's also in chronological order from the main timeline that we've talked about - best I could manage, at least.)

For more specific songs- I'm not sure if I have any that i associate with only the wither, rather than wither-watcher Grain man, but let's see... 1 - There's Terrible Things by Brick+Mortar, which is mostly about just the Wither and Glitches influencing his mind and worsening during Third Life and Last Life. Those two series specifically because the song mentions things happening in the person's dreams/sleep, and I'm still running with the headcanon where _Life SMP seasons happen while Hermits, Emperors and the others are asleep in Hermitcraft, Empires or whatever their base world is right now. (YouTube link for the song is here if you don't have spotify) 2 - Arsonist's Lullabye by Hozier is about Grian's relationship to his Glitched Wither condition and the destructive powers it wields. If I recall, you actually were the one to suggest me this song for my Grian, and it worked really really well, I do have to say.

4 - Ok this one probably only fully makes sense if you live in my brain but while I was cleaning up the playlist I looked for a song with "ban" in the name and found this song called Banish the Banshee and I just feel it fits Wither!Grian's ban from hermitcraft so much. look the lyrics make sense in my brain ok kfsdkjfh-- oh yeah and in my brain the first part of the song is abt him getting kicked out by the watchers bc he draws a lot of parallels between that and the hc ban in his mind

5 - Animal by The Living Tombstone. I don't think I need to explain this one much. It's him while he's losing control over his wither side and causing bloodshed, as well as drawing parallels to and asking himself if he's become just like Herobrine; "I try to talk to myself, but the voice I hear sounds just like you" // "I have become something new / Or am I turning into you?" Good shit. (YouTube link here if you don't have spotify) 6 - Finally, I wont really comment on why for this one but Sing To Me by MISSIO was the first one I thought of. I imagine this one for the period on Hermitcraft S8, after Last Life, where him and the other Lifers end up distancing themselves from each other and much of the server, Wither!Grian in particular isolating himself pretty badly.

My parents were always freaked out about the internet so never let me get one, and being a good child I never did- plus I was just not interested, so I just... never got around to it in adulthood. AND like whenever I needed to talk to a friend through FB I just used my parents page cause that was their solution, so there was no real need. do you have any pets: SEVERAL AND I LOVE ALL OF MY FURRY CHILDREN! I have an 11yo poodle/terrier mix (mom was a poodle, dad was the terrier next door. Truly a scandal) named Bear and i love my grumpy old man to death; a 2yo boxer/husky mix we rescued that was originally supposed to be a lab which was a total lie named Nutmeg, but it’s okay I love my babe even if i can take her on a 3mi run and she’s still ready to run 3 more; an 8yo wonderfully affectionate and beautiful tabby cat named Willow; a 6 year old (oh my god, she’s 6, it feels like yesterday she was a satellite dish in a collar that meowed) purring machine tabby cat named Sage; and two beautiful girls. My mom was a very spiritual person and I am pretty sure she believed in God in one way or another, but she didn’t follow a religion. She had her own version of faith. My dad just didn’t care about that stuff at all, haha. They were both respectful of people who did follow religion and I felt like they would have been/would be cool with whatever paths my sister and I decided to lead.

She would set up these “shops” where we could “buy” food and trinkets from the country with fake money. We had an EPIC fort we build out of boxes. We celebrated the Chinese New Year and did a ton of origami. I remember her class vividly and fondly. She recently reached out to my sister (who also had her) and I which was a really nice surprise and showed how much she loved her students.
