i have decided to randomly infodump about my lab rats as a way to motivate myself to: 1) revamp existing characters old refs and 2) DRAW THE GD REFERENCES OF THE REST OF THE BITCHES (this will probably take me ages still. alas), more rambly details abt the story and characters under the cut

the main characters: Dr. Kitty Whisker and her twin sibling Happy(tbd), Dr. Brainworms, Gummi (comic relief character mostly), Prof. Fuzzybottom(tbd) and Prof. Snakebite (previously known as prof. pinky, i need to redesign him more heavily)

the side characters (these guys may have side stories of their own but theyre mostly just an excuse for me to design more weird lab rats): Prof. Smartypants - ref to be finished, ferret with a brain of a human, she is my 'authors blatant self insert' into my own story lol; Fishsticks (drawn, a dissected mouse/frog stitched together), (the rest of these dont have names yet) a rat/chick hybrid with funy lil chicken legs, a rat/gator/shark hybrid she is punk and goth and she Bites, a mouse/cat dna mix with a surprisingly tragic backstory that im still working out, more tba

each lab rat represents usually an amalgamation of different experiments as the lab they are in is 'cheap' with their test subjects and likes to Repurpose old, usually failed experiments and do other stuff to them! honestly even if theyre a success they still end up getting experimented on more lol but they are still unimportant enough and the lab big enough where they can hide themselves away and have their own space w/o being actively searched for. ofc the world of the setting is based on our own reality but way more Hyperreal, i dont aim to represent logical feats of science bc a lot of these guys would defs be revolutionary (and impossible) irl lol. i will briefly run down what each main character is a result of but ideally id like to go into more detail when i actually. make the story more visual in whatever format i decide to do (probably experimental and non linear snippets, i dont think im smart enough for a full comic)

Dr. Kitty and Happy are twins! they were the result of an experiment where the scientists were testing if one species of rodent could gestate a different species of rodent just thru a little genetic modification. and that was Happy! he is actually a bunny born from a rat mother and with all rat siblings (one of them being Kitty) hes a bit smaller in stature than a usual bunny being more rat sized but other than that just a bnuuy! further experiments on them was how well skin grafting would work between different yet similar species. it worked for Kitty (hence the bunny ear) but not so much for Happy... both of them had separate experiments done on them also, altho Kitty was more rebellious of the two earning her the shock collar. Happy also had experiments on his fur to make it color changing like a chameleon, as well as some experiments to his eye (tbd)

Dr. Brainworms is actually a sapient amoeba/bacteria type thing, attached to a host body(that happens to be a hairless rat), this host body is her most compatible one as she Can overtake and control other bodies but they start to decay pretty quickly. her history is something she herself is trying to find out as her host body is its own mystery.. is she just an amoeba that gainted sentience? is her mind really her own? was this body maybe always hers? who knows!

Gummi is a jelly belly gummy rat candy brought to life, pretty self explanatory... but shes got a few mysteries of her own! like, why was she even created, for what purpose, i mean who could even do such advanced science anyway to bring an inorganic candy to life, and Why does she keep talking abt a scientist with green gloves when there arent any scientists like that around?

Prof. Fuzzybottom is a rabbit! she used to be just used for breeding new test subjects which left her pretty traumatized not being able to keep any of her children, she became infertile from the stress so she was repurposed for other experiments, like trying to turn her fur to naturally be an unnatural color, and to be more synthetic like faux fur (aka a living plush) she was also blind so they replaced her eyes with a plushy sleeping mask that actually has LEDs inside that are hooked up to her brain to see if they could restore vision thru cybernetics. in her original iteration she was even supposed to be half rat half bunny buut i felt it too much, might still reuse the idea tho! tbh i just wanted a bunny with cute rat hands :3

Prof. Snakebite is not even a lab rat originally, he was simply a pinky rat used to feed the lab snakes, but due to freak circumstances he was actually still alive and after being bitten by a venomous snake, the stress hormones in his little body make him develop rapidly especially in brain power. as he was still very tiny and fragile, he wasnt the best subject to experiment on, but he was fitted with a brain chip originally just to read and analyze his brain development as he was much more advanced in mind than in body (of an almost newborn). after escaping he would upgrade his brain chip to help him utilize more brain power but also lessen the burden on his tiny body that could not handle the strain. he and prof. fuzzybottom are always hanging around each other, fuzzy very often babying him or just helping him out by carrying him and helping him reach places or handle objects, while he begrudgingly tolerates her as she is useful to his needs. also cant admit he appreciates her actually awww

the rest of the side characters are pretty self explanatory, theyre mostly just various animal hybrids and crossbreeds and splices! smh only the main characters get cool powers and shit -_- aside from Prof. Smartypants, after having a ferrets body fitted with a human mind(who doesnt remember the human part almost at all. its just the advanced intellect from it) tries to figure out the weird body dysmorphia with Science Potions aka chemisty. but thats mostly just to give another one of my sonas shapeshifting ablities (go figure) so yah if u read this so far Waow o_o Thank U and also Pls Send me asks abt this. if u want <3 can be questions or just ur thoughts ig!! id love feedback pleas please plea

good news:

today marks exactly 1 year since i came out!

(ALMOST) everybody used my correct name and pronouns the whole day

thats about it

bad news:

my mother deadnamed me and misgendered me the whole day (and was the only person to do so)

afterwards she went on her usual spiel about how "horribly hard it is for her and dificult to use my proper name" and how "its something so difficult that everybody in the family is struggling with immensly!" (no it isnt) (literaly everybody else got it right the whole time) (including my 90 year old grandma with memory loss) (also everybody else found out about my prefered name TODAY and instantly started using it and actualy thanked me for telling them) (my mother is the only one who knew about my name before)

also thanksgiving so i ate too much and am now hating myself for it

ended up going on a slight cutting spree on my shoulder (it was kinda funny because i didnt check how much gauze we had before hand and it turned out we were OUT and i had to scramble to make a makeshift bandage) (dont worry the final result was very hygenic and nothing to worry about, i dont fuck around with first aid) (i dont even know why. i dont care about my life i just NEED to do it right) (although it was unfortunant because i was in such a frenzy when i was cutting myself that all the cuts were really surface level and barely enough to draw blood, and nowhere near as deep as i deserve) (im usualy much better at hurting myself this just passively stings if i had done it right it would be SO MUCH more painful)

• the point of thanksgiving is to hate yourself afterwards I think. I dunno I don't eat at all really during thanksgiving BC all of the foods are things I really don't like- some to the point of throwing it up later. And we have thanksgiving leftovers for a few nights afterwards so I just have to sneak snacks or I don't eat (we can only eat leftovers until all the thanksgiving food is gone or else its a waste)

• fuckkk girliepop, Red, rule 2 of cutting is always having the stuff to clean up near you o you're gonna do it. (Rule 1 is getting a support system and talking to ppl u trust about it, which you're doing wonderfully.) At least the cuts were shallow and you may think 'but Atlas! That's bad. Now they don't hurt as much' and I say good if they get too deep you might get nerve damage and then it won't hurt at all and it would make everything worse trust me. 'But Atlas! I deserve pain and semi to fully permanent nerve damage!! I'm a bad person! :((' and to that I say where is your proof? Where is the proof of these alleged bad things because right now I haven't seen any and you are not the judge in this court of law you are both the prosecuted and the defendant. Both of whom have shown no evidence to the jury.

GOOD STUFF

• was able to sneak off before the political argument happened

• a YouTuber I like posted a video after a year of silence

• I wrote three paragraphs of fanfiction!!

• was able to sneak some soda my cousin brought when my mom wasnt looking (im not allowed soda)

BAD STUFF

• Didn't eat a lot cause of stuff already said

• had to misgender my bother and sister in front of family (all of us are out to everyone but the family)

• was having a masc day and got misgendered all day but eh comes with being gender fluid ig lol.

• nearly threw up the food I did eat bc its food I have a hard time eating, not a pleasant sensation I'll tell you.

• had to deep clean the entire house twice (abt 6 hrs of work total, once before everyone arrived (4hrs) and once after (2hrs) I can be lazier after BC my mom is drunk

• mom was being a clingy drunk and hugged me and I want to rip off my skin and clean the meat under it with bleach and vinegar before getting new skin.

That's all!!! It was pretty much a normal day in terms of bad stuff except the eating thing which is only sometimes but now its a lot more intense. In terms of good day it was more than usual!!! Yes!!!

Flat-front is the hardest, I think, I almost never do that. 4. I dont know how furry artists survive. I draw like Diagrams of weight distribution and stuff to make myself believe that the characters are comfortable to walk and do other fun activities. Also shoes. How do you do shoes when the character has paws. 19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.) I like to draw small objects with watercolor and colored pencils. Tiny bottles, candies, shelled nuts, small fruit, floss boxes, ets. It is very satisfying. 20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy Hands. Learning sign language gives a great advantage on that. 27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with I just accept that the first 20% of drawing session might be wonkier and I might have to re-do it later. It pisses me off a little to do meaningless things? For exercise? Sometimes when I dont feel like doing much, I get colored pencils and sketch poses from reference, but it's not a warm-up. Maybe it will ease me in, maybe not, no obligation.

I draw using Procreate 99.9% of the time. But I also have Sketchbook, Pixel Studio, Rough Animator, and FlipaClip on my iPad. On my computer I have Paint Tool SAI and Krita.

2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)

Forward 100%, but left is easier then right.

3. What ideas come from when you were little

Animations, of any kind. I was really into animation memes back when I really was drawing and drew a shit ton, and I got a lot of inspo from that!

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

My Avali character, she's so pretty and smol but she is a PAIN to draw...

5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself

On here I only really post stuff with Zee I think ? But I usually post all serious art (so excluding doodles unless I'm really proud of them)

I don't know, I guess my dreams? Well I don't dream a lot, it's mostly nightmares, but sometimes I'll still get inspo. Also a lot of my older characters were based on my issues, such as self esteem issues, imposters syndrome, depression, etc etc.

7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate

Painting. I sometimes paint, only really for crafts though. It's not really my thing, but god some people are FANTASTIC.

8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in

I've planned lots of little games I wanted to do with my OCs. I wouldn't really say I lost interest in the long term. I'd like to still do them someday, but right now I don't know. But I have a whole game with a mechanic thats based on karma and doing right and wrong..? I'm kinda excited, maybe in the future it will be good!

I don't draw on my computer often, but usually its just '(character name)' and then a number, or a quick thing of the scene. But I have most OC art on my computer, properly sorted into files.

10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw

Scarves, which I only really learned drawing Zee (and one fanart I drew of Shin ljkdf). Also earrings if that counts

11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what

Youtube is usually what I listen to. My favorite is horror games.

Also my iPad recently got a crack on the screen (it fell off the music stand at band D: ) and when I took art class last semester I broke a bit of smaller stuff like charcoal and pastels...

Flowers. I suck at them, but they're fun to draw! And galaxies, I've painted them before and they were fun.

I kinda enjoy backgrounds? I'm picky and lazy but when I have the motivation I do enjoy it, and trying to make the actual focus of the art fit in the background.

I love how San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk by Monet looks. In fact, I recreated it for an art project (we had to use pastels and only 3 colors plus black and white to recreate a famous painting. It was a lot of fun) and I just love the texture on it.

i thiiink i have a license for clip studio paint that came with my old wacom tablet but i never rly used it. also used to have krita installed for the longest time but just always felt off to me idk why. don't currently have it installed anymore tho

to their right is a bit easier i think. not smth i consciously notice, mostly i'm just thinking abt when im doodling on the margins of stuff they usually are looking to the left of the page

"particularly juvenile character, innocent in her attitude towards friendships and grudges" she doesnt fucking play when it comes to friendships or grudges and takes a rather black and white stance on it. hence how much she targetted marsh over the santa thing in season 1 and how quick she was to being really clingy towards her in season 2. shes so shit at reading another's feelings because She Just Doesnt Get It and shes also occupied more with what she thinks others preconceptions of her are (more than always negative shes on edge about it. even worse for actually reading the room)

"her ambition towards proving her value to others" is such a nice way of saying shes that painful of a people pleaser and needs the approval of others lest she kills herself. girl you are sick in the head, terminal killing herself disorder and falls for the "they didnt easily accept my frantic attempts at closeness with these crayon drawings because they inched away from me a bit" trick in the book of unwellness. im particularly fond of the "spiral of confusion and bitterness" part when her pleasing acts fails, the wording really encapsulates a brief timeline of her emotions when such occurs. like imagining her train of thought and inner emotions going from "? that wasnt a good reaction... but why what does this mean this doesnt make any sense why didnt it go right did i mess up did i do something wrong but i did everything right then why are they not be happy about it why are they here then [spirals into self deprecation and resentment]". you know this was triggered to something more intense and depressed-like after her second elimination like im sure this was already her before (although more persistant in trying/blind in knowing others' emotions, far before that more expression of harshness) so shes insanely frantic about doing it right especially the first time and if it fails either she'll do it again desperately or just give up entirely. its interesting, if you took how i perceive her pre-ii2 self to be, her sensitivty, low self esteem, abandonment/attachment issues, and how she handles that evolves wildly. i wouldnt be surprised there to be any form of Self issues regarding identity. making matters even "worse" she lives off of every drop of reciprocated sentiment she puts into these acts of closeness or regular old appreciation. imagine, the very self and image being that of how others think of you. not that no one experiences this, but with apple it can really make or break her identity enough to have her be absolutely elated like nothing could go wrong or be extremely depressed and having an inner battle of her self hatred and how to approach it (attack others, herself, or remain static). i dont think every one of these gestures are a need for love and validation, shes generally a bit of a sweet doof who loves to be with others and to have fun and for others to as well. but theres always that core of her that drive in her to prevent cases of abandonment even if shes not aware of it (she never is) or if its her top motive for the day

speaking of, im forever a fan of how literally canon it is that shes insane i mean neurodivergent. ive always liked to think that idiotic island didnt neccessarily kickstart her abandonment issues, but rather ignited by the thousands enough for that to sorta override how she approached her sensitivity previously (which like i mentioned before, was with more anger and crass towards others then internally psychologically herself). like not only was she left alone for much longer than anyone else on idiotic island, she was hardly really given a whole lot of kindness from the others (besides marsh, paintbrush maybe because of marsh, and pickle). not to say shes innocent, she was a bitch to marsh and targetted her a whole lot to definitely have affected her in ways more than one, but id imagine she probably came onto the show not for an entirely huge motive but at least with some hope to befriend others and have some fun. i mean, THAT long of a time was enough to self reflect somehow uknowingly to have instantly changed her approach to these situations. she wasnt direct towards herself like looking at the reflection of herself in the water but moreso something clicked, or rather shifted. sure she still did come across as a bit of a cunt to others, shes naturally immature (<3) but i think a lot of it went more over to defending those who are good in her book (like marsh). if she wasnt on good terms with herself before idiotic island then she for sure wasnt afterwards. the move from one approach to another basically, and it just kept changing slowly til her second elimimation came. and by that point a lot of that initial sensitivity had been most likely gone i think, or at the least suppressed into something more inwards to herself. she was DISTRAUGHT when marsh was outright saying to her she didnt want her around anymore, and every other act of dissapproval. throughout that whole episode apple was at best awkward questioning the difference in marsh's attitude to her and at worst being upfront to her asking for reassurance or attempting at assuring herself everything is fine (self made statements about them two). its just crazy how much of that incident can really lead to a domino effect in apple's psyche and self. id love to write it out a lot more detailed with evidence and my own headcanons someday in a much better articulated form, take my ramble boy

I'll be honest,if the weasley kids had a tv show I would have percy as my favourite. Bill aand charlie arent in it so I wouldnt have an opinion (they're obviously hinted at but never there) Arthur's gonna annoy me kinda, molly is really nice but she always compares her kids. Percy is the kinda dude I'd identify with, I hate how his family shames him alot. Sure hes ambitious but at the same time I hate when they bully him for his pride in his prefect badge and his head boy badge, like CMON! Gryffindor traits??? PRIDEFUL like yeah hes gonna be happy because he feels accomplished. I remember getting into model un and I talked about it at dinner time,my siblings got kinda annoyed but did they insult me abt it? Oops I dont have my passport" regular happy sibling stuff. You dont insult your brothers pride and joy, it's obvious hes so happy about it.

If there's gonna be a show on the Weasley family, the only interestee Weasley I would be watching is for Percy. Now let's go through every Weasley.

Arthur- at work, never home, if at home in shed exploring muggle things instead of probably bonding with his children.

Molly-would do chores, help children and maybe chat with next door neigbour. A slight chance of bonding with kids. Not very entertaining really.

Bill and Charlie- I mean depends whether they're even there or gone. If they're there they'd probably argue with each other. Maybe we'll get the Bill earring story and Charlie dragon obsession. Other than that maybe sibling bonding which is always good.

Twins- I cannot emphasize enough as to why I wouldn't watch the twins, if there was such a tv show. Each episode they'll probably prank someone most probably Ron and Percy. And then these pranks would get violent and physical and they would still be the saints and Percy the villain.

I mean the twins cause Ron's phobia, almost make him take the Unbreakable Vow (Ron was 5!) and then beat his Puffskein to death.

AND PUFFSKEIN IS AN ANIMAL.

And that's only Ron. If I start on Percy the jokes are endless but let's just end with the twins tried to locked Percy in a pyramid( God knows how old!). Enough said.

Ron- We already have Ron content in the book. Do we really need more? Yes we do but not if it's Ron insulting Percy. And if this show was before Harry and Hogwarts then Ron would be a young child like 9-10 years old and I personally wouldn't be interested. I love Ron but he loses absolutely no moment to insult or bitch about his brother. Plus Ron is whiny. Sometimes.

Ginny- They'll probably make her a Mary Sue who can do no wrong. They would seriously do that and make her a female version of the twins. Sorry not interested in watching her.

When we come to Percy there are so many things we can do. We can see bonding with Bill or Charlie. Percy being a good older brother and helping with nightmares. Percy being his mother's support system. Percy helping Arthur with his work. Percy teaching Ron chess. Percy planning a prank with twins. Percy playing dolls with Ginny.

With Percy you can relate him to everyone in some way or another. We know Molly loves Percy and probably considers him her favorite. Probably. Arthur with the Ministry so Percy and Ministry. Percy going to Bill with help for studies. Percy helping Charlie research about dragons.(Percy telling Charlie his dormmate is crazy about quidditch and asking if Charlie could give him tips and an autograph)

Percy playing chess with Ron. We know Percy is protective over Ron and Ginny. So we can assume that Percy teaches Ron chess and helps him read. Percy reading to Ginny about Harry Potter.(Really though who else would have? Molly would be busy and Bill and Charlie wouldn't)

Or we can have Percy writing stuff. Short stories and articles. Percy being a writer. Percy singing , dancing or drawing. Percy sneaking to Muggle town and talking to them.

Percy finding Scabbers.

Percy going to the Lovegood residence and talking with Luna's mother because she is such an amazing person.

(And taking her death the hardest)

Also Percy bonding with Luna.

Percy bonding with Uncle Billius or Great Aunt Muriel. Also reminsing time with Uncle Gideon and Fabian.

Percy having babysitter called Lily Potter who looked just like him but with bright green eyes. She reads to him about adventure stories and tells him she loves him very much and once brought her husband with her(who's an animagus!)

(While his brothers rejoiced the fall of You Know Who, Percy cried because Miss Lily and Mr James were dead. That was the time Percy realised that bad things happen to good people)

Well to put it in short there are so many angles with Percy which makes him interesting in my opinion.

If they do make let's hope they don't screw Percy over like they did with him in that damn game.

Percy is the only Weasley who I can relate to which makes me love him more. I am an elder sibling, have been constantly insulted by family and friends for following rules and very rarely been put down for being excited for something.

I feel that as Percy fans we love him because he is complicated. He isn't like the rest of the Weasleys. He isn't charming or funny. He's just a normal guy trying to do better and Percy fans get it because it's relatable. We can relate to being ordinary. He doesn't have earrings or pranks or a saviour best friend. He's just a guy who follows rules and wants to be successful. Who wouldn't relate with that?

And maybe some of us have been ridiculed just like Percy so we understand. We also understand that this is Harry's biased view and all he has been told about Percy is usually by Ron or the twins who insult him on a regular basis. And Harry is no better! He uses words like pompously like he understands how a person talks pompously?

So I love Percy a lot because I relate to him and I would never in my life apologise for loving such a complicated character.
