So okay there's some arguments i hear from people why Home x Wally is not valid ship, so i decided to explain these and try to counterargument them! If you have an argument of your own feel free to write it in the comments :3
1)"This is incest! They like father and son to each other"
Canon of the show is that Wally didn't know Home before the he moved into him and also he like. A Building. If we're going to build on the show's lore Its would be just popular headcanon. Just because you see them as parent and child doesn't meen everyone does ćā ć³ā :ā å½”
Some people are like to thing that Home is a creator of the show/his soul in there. I get it too, this theory KINDA makes sense, but still... We didn't see Wally acting like Home is his creator/getting revenge on Home for make their life hell (you can count worshiping as a sight but evidence is too weak), they are pretty chill with each other! Plus, it doesn't explain why Home is doesn't like humans, and from new update we learn that Welcome home is another world, so this theory is 99,99% is false i think
2) "Home is a building!"
Eah. LIVING building. With emotions and fears. Home is fully aware and sentient, it just so happened to have a different body then the rest of the puppets
3)"Home is abusive/evil!"
I understand why some people see them having Dynamic like this, but honestly I never saw it as inherently abusive? Maybe Wally is actually obsessed with Home, or maybe itās the opposite, or theyāre both crazy about each other, but it could also just that they act the way they do because of their self awareness. I do also think theyāre overprotective of each other as well.
I just canāt see them *not* having any kind of close relationship, I mean Wally literally takes care of her, serenades him, and even blows them kisses and Home does similar gestures back at him! The feeling is mutual here.
3)"Wally is worshiping Home! Its unhealthy"
The only evidence of Home being worshiped by Wally is "so bellow" page.
I know technically it couldāve been used as evidence as Wally worshiping Home as a god but I think there are many other ways to interpret that drawing on the siteā¦ Like, I donāt think Wally is viewing her as some powerful entity, I think Wally is just obsessed with he. Not in a worshipping way but more like in a āyou mean everything to me and I wouldnāt let anyone come between usā way. Also because of how Homeās eyeās are, the drawing couldāve easily been outside just as it couldāve been inside (we canāt really tell since itās all black). And even if it was inside, I donāt think that means Wally canāt leave Home, honestly I donāt even think heād want to anyway. Theyāre both mutually bonded to each other
3)"Wally/Barnaby is canon, so you can't ship Wally with Home"
First. Wally/Barnaby isn't confirmed canon. Yes, there have been many, and I mean MANY, hints at this ship. I personally think that in fact in near future it is going to be canon. Second. Im still allowed to do whatever i want with them. They are my comfort ship, they make me happy and it doesn't hurt anyone.
So, what's conclusion?
People like to think that their personal disliking of the ship is a valid point to bully shippers. They would make TONS AND TONS of excuses just to make others dislike it too. "They like son and father!", "They are abusive!", "This is proship, its gross!' despite not having evidence at all. Idk why ppl so scared to say "I don't personally like Home/Wally, its not for me" and go with their lifes. It much easier then to digging internet searching for art of them two and then show it to others saying: " LOOK HOW GROSS IT IS!!! SHIPPERS OF THIS SHIP IS TOTALLY UNHINGED!!!! How lucky we are not to be this stupid ššš"
It hurts. A little.
Life is so much better when you just not interact with things you donāt like, wish more people realised that tbh. Especially in fandom, because people get so mad over ships and headcanons when they could justā¦. Not interact? The more you seek out the content, the more itāll appear in your feed because itās how a for you page works. The algorithm shows you things it thinks you will like based off previous posts youāve viewedā¦ā¦
Like Iām just shipping these silly little puppets together and making headcanons Iām not hurting anyone š
Thanks to @serillian for helping me with this one -ā įā į“„ā įā -

Hello! A few days ago I was thinking about yoonmin (as I often do hehehe) and I started thinking about jimin and his gender. Now, I'm not sure if he identifies as anything other than male, but it's safe to say that he has struggled with masculinity and toxic expectations when he was younger. There have been some instances in the last few years were there have been some non-bn references, the first ones that come to mind are the fotoshoot with the bigender symbol and taemin's words on suchwita (ājimin also has that gender-neutral charm and also delicateā).
What I wanted to ask you is how do you think gender has impacted yoonmin?
I don't know if you've ever received an anon about this topic but I was curious about your opinion š
Personally, I think Jimin struggled a lot in his early years since he felt the pressure to fullfil this assigned strong masculine roll within the group (when they made him lift his shirt and do things like that). From what he's said in interviews, he later learned to accept himself and I can only think about how reassuring it must have been to have someone as accepting and supportive as yoongi by his side. I feel like yoongi is the kind of person who would encourage him to freely explore his gender (his bestie Halsey uses she/they pronouns by the way) and especially through his art (when face came out some ppl interpreted as Jimin talking about his gender and I found it very interesting).
Anyways, I feel like I'm just rambling haha. To sum up we don't know if he's 100% non-bn, he may still identify as a cis man, but still it's safe to say that he has been exploring his gender in the past.
(We'll probably never get a confirmation if he's actually non-bn, unless things in Korea change A LOT.)
Hi anon! Your question about gender in terms of yoonmin is a good one and something I have wondered about too!
First of all, I agree with you regarding Jimin and his relationship with gender. Weāve gotten many clues (and what I would consider more than clues) about this.
In regards to yoonmin as a pair, one thing Iāve noticed are the types of words Yoongi uses to describe Jimin. Yes, heās called him handsome. But heās also used gender-neutral or even traditionally feminine adjectives to describe him: āsexy,ā āpretty,ā āsmall and cute.ā I think he does this because he knows these are the type of words that Jimin enjoys. Typically, when someone gives a compliment, their words are tailored to fit the person they are complimenting.
Another example: when Yoongi quoted the k-drama line to Jimin backstage in Newark, he quoted the male characterās line thus placing Jimin in the female role in that scenario.
(Likewise, Yoongi seems to be perfectly fine with Jimin referring to him as ācuteā and ābaby,ā which to me shows a level of open mindedness that, unfortunately, many men lack.)
Theyāre both smart people and theyāve been in the entertainment industry long enough to know how fans analyze things. So, even if the female lead in the Like Crazy choreo isnāt Jiminās reflection (although I believe she is), he at least would have known that some people would interpret that wayā¦and he was fine with that. Similarly, by now Yoongi knows what many fans think of his Cypher 3 verse. Yet years later, he included that verse, unchanged, in his D-Day set list.
Iām rambling now, but my point is they have both demonstrated an accepting/progressive attitude toward these issues and have not attempted to āset the record straightā when it comes to gender (or sexual orientation, for that matter).
Obviously, Yoongi and Jimin are individuals and each of them has their own unique feelings about gender. We can see differences in terms of how they present themselves. But I do see commonalities in terms of their way of thinking, their acceptance of themselves and their acceptance of others. I hope that makes sense!
Hereās Jimin playing with the idea of gender roles and putting himself in the feminine role: shocked that heās been caught shirtless, while he places the viewer, who is likely to be female given Armyās demographics, in the role of the voyeur (typically thought of as the masculine role). He seems to love doing this, turning the tables and offering unexpected and non-traditional portrayals of gender roles.
Hereās a video of Jimin talking about how heās changed and grown over the years.
Hereās a video of Jimin showing (again) that heās comfortable playing with the idea of traditional gender roles.
Hereās Yoongi saying in an interview that everyone is equal.
Hereās a photo of Yoongi wearing his pride Vans.
Hereās a really cute video of Yoongi with a male fan. (He is treating the male fan the same way heād treat a female fan, giving the high-five and the cute pout. Like he said in the interview, āeveryone is equal,ā and he treats fans accordingly. I love this video!)
In Yoongiās case, I understand that these are not examples related to gender specifically. I see these as clues to his world view and his inclusivity, and of course Iām sure he extends that way of thinking to Jimin.
I hope this made sense! Thanks for this ask, anon!

I'm curious, do ppl hate Love Never Dies because they think Eristine is problematic and it's made canon in it, or is it due to something else? I havent watched it yet or anything but i like the vibes, lol
Heh... Love Never Dies has always been controversial at the very least? It came out at a time where Erik/Christine was still the most popular ship in the phandom - it still is, by the way. That didn't change despite a clear shift in fandom and ""problematic content"" around 2013, so a good 3 years after the musical came out. If anything, Raoul/Christine shippers have been a minority for most of the phandom's history, and both sides of the debate at some point more or less decided to agree to disagree (I mean, the homophobic slurs Raoul would get at times were starting to REALLY be in poor taste), except on the point that without the love triangle, there wouldn't be much of a story, and there are various ways of interpreting said love triangle. So, quite frankly, I don't understand why some people on either side are trying to restart discourse in the POTO fandom but I digress. And look, if you see people in the tags saying that Erik/Christine is problematic, they're probably new, and not really representative of the phandom at large. Anything having to do with Sierra Boggess is more controversial.
I really don't think the controversy stems from it making Erik and Christine bang and have a love child - I know there are some people who are against the idea of any kind of sequel, in fanfic form or otherwise, for a variety of reasons, but most of them were being responsible adults about it and didn't actively seek fanfic. As I mentioned before, a lot of folks were Erik/Christine shippers and thought that Christine was more into the Phantom than into Raoul, that's nothing new. But a lot of them also had issues with how LND dealt with it, for several reasons. It didn't come from an "anti" sentiment, it was very much them having issues with the material that was presented to them.
Raphael/phantoonsoftheopera (who is a long time fan of POTO) goes into more detail here and I think he sums up a lot of phans' thoughts back in 2010 when LND came out (whether they shipped the Phantom and Christine or not), and I think @musicalhell is another one who was also around at the time (feel free to pop in, and hope I'm not bothering you with the tag).
As for the rest, I wish I could defend ALW's choices here in the same way I'd defend Lana Wachowski for Matrix Resurrections - i.e. you're allowed to not like it but this is this creator's baby and they're allowed to do whatever they want with it, so let's all respect art for the sake of art here. But LND is very much a vanity project, as ALW has proven multiple times, that is mean-spirited to its core in various ways. For my fellow SW fans, it's the TROS to POTO'S TLJ. The cast and crew were treated in a really shitty way back in the original London production days, same with critics of the show, and there was even a case where a journalist and long time phan who provided a critical review of LND was demeaned in an article as some sort of sad housewife who was obsessed with POTO. Mind you, ALW has tried to make LND work FOR YEARS, with various productions and tours opening here and there, but it always underperforms. And mind you, the Eristine crowd is still hanging around, and POTO is doing extremely well whereever it goes to this day. If the Eristine content was good, the crowds would follow, "problƩmatique" posts and tweets or not. They aren't there.

abt your rant on how ppl are weird towards orion pax- no cuz ure so right, seeing those fanarts at first i was like idk maybe some people have a heavy preference on making him be submissive etc? but the way they do it- it goes beyond just artstyle wise and interpretation š its just fetishizing in all the wrong ways, not just that but that one comic of him being blind? it was so weird like they could of just had a diff approach where he doesnt get beaten up or is a crybaby like- wtf
not just orion pax though, for example in tfp optimus is drawn and seen as this uwu twink boy and its so?? like did we see the same series...that is NOT optimus prime that is just an oc that looks like him atp š
anyways, not making this any longer cuz its probs boring- but yeah,i fully agree that some artists are way too weird like borderline problematic about the way they draw orion pax/optimus prime
more ppl need to speak up on this topic tbh
Not at all boring to read lol, I like getting long asks, anyhow...
Yeaaaahhhh, like I'm not trying to say people can't draw or write Optimus or Orion as being more soft or "submissive" or whatever. Do what you want with those characters, I'm not the fandom police, but there's a point where it becomes weird.
Like you're taking a guy, you're taking Optimus fucking Prime and rewriting his character so not only is his agency just gone but his entire being revolves around being the cutesy boyfriend in a ship with a big masc man and nothing else, he's seemingly incapable of doing anything he's proven to be skillful in... despite being a very strong and courageous character...
also yeah I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels very weird about the Orion being blind AU, I'm not against the idea, I think it could be interesting but all they really did (last time I saw it and a bunch of the art for it) was take a character, make them disabled, and suddenly they need to be coddled around and rescued by an abled person from a fight that IN CHARACTER they could've done something about or didn't have to cry like a child about it... like someone in the comments of my post said, it's bordering on ableism, but I don't wanna label anyone.
#ty for ask btw anon#so glad i'm not the only person who feels this way#i just think it should be brought up a bit more lmao#even tho i have no belief that it'll ever change the landscape of fanwork#i just think we should discuss how strange it is sometimes#yeah#transformers#orion pax#optimus prime#megop#rambles#star's asks

HN's lore and fandom are literally broken atm
Every time when something shitty happens with this poor franchise I had the feeling that I should write something about it. And the last AS teaser was like a spit into my face, so here you go. HN has problems, the fandom, the franchise itself. And these problems are huge. We all know that it's a some kind of a milking cow at the moment, it's already a very sad situation. People around me (with whom I hang out and they are/were in HN fandom) liked the way how story went when Nikita was around. It's obvious, that he wasn't involved in modern HN2 and projects that were created after. It may sound stupid to those people, who don't have this feeling, but you just know that he hasn't participated in development. It's like a style, handwriting. You can try to copy it, but it still will be a copy. And his style, his handwriting is nowhere. The last time I felt that HN is HN was when HN2 alpha 2 teasers were seen. I was excited, had high hopes. Felt that special vibe. But later? Nothing. Lore problems. SIGH. Every fucking interpretation of this poor game fails, contradicting each other and original canon. We have the game. The first and original resource of information, everything else should be based on it, not the opposite(!). These books are a cash grab, I have almost all of them, I've read them, but they're a cash grab literally. I can say it as a person who is writing too and who can point out that everyone is freaking OOC in them, including Theodore. And no matter how TB wants to be "an animation studio" or smth, they're GAME PUBLISHERS hiii hellooo hi??? You're supposed to publish games, they spent money on absolutely unnecessary product that can't even give them these money back, as I suppose. You all do know that Ted never freaking ever had a brother. Even the book one had SISTER, but it was just a random fact even and her existence in the lore was... Not important. Lore keeps being overwritten over and over again, it's nowhere HN already. The legacy was destroyed or smth. I won't even say anything about poor HG that had amusing potential! Are u guys really okay with this? Cuz I'm not. It feels at least disrespectful to Nikita, imho. I would be so depressed if my creation was turned into a milking cow for someone else. HN1 had a meaning, morality. It wasn't just a game for fun and giggles, it was a message, it was an art. Like a good movie, like a good book. But a good game. Maybe with bugs, yes. Maybe it wasn't 100% perfect in different aspects, but it had soul. And imho HN could be a russian gamedev savior at some point, cuz russian gamedev is half alive. And old fandom... People who are new to this franchise probably doesn't know a lot of facts, some don't even understand what was HN1 about, even if it's obvious as hell. People are not friendly to each other for some reason, despite they're a part of one community. Stop stabbing the same boat where we all in, you will drown not us, but yourself too. So we should be respectful to each other, we're the one community, no matter if we want it or not. I miss old HN. No fucking mystic, just metaphors and messages. No random flat characters, no 100 boring and unnecessary spin-offs, including a freaking cartoon. And as a conclusion HN = Nikita (and Dynamic Pixels ppl) No Nikita = No HN Text is not systematized as it should, maybe there are even grammar mistakes. But it's an emotional vent.
#hello neighbor#hello neighbor 2#hello guest#This poor fandom doesn't deserve this shit#Nikita save us all pls#Masya text post

Tristan fans DO know Tristan, heās a very well developed character and you thinking that people donāt know that is honestly sad. And Iām sorry that you are so dead focused on cannon that when people want to put a spin on it by making him something different in a FAN FICTION you think people donāt understand him. And I agree with you with people constantly thinking heās some twink, when heās not. But at the same time that shouldnāt stop you from loving and understanding a character just because of the fans. Tristan is strong where it matters and is kind, caring and just an amazing character. People do understand that Tristan is more then a twink, at least I certainly do, but just because someone isnāt talking about how well developed he is doesnāt mean they donāt see that. A true fan can see the pros and cons of a character but just because he isnāt talked about that constantly isnāt a bad thing. And I donāt like when Tristan is constantly perceived as a woman either, heās a strong character with a deep personality. But that doesnāt mean people arenāt allowed to play around with said character. Trust me, the world will keep spinning.
First, just say it without anon it's fine like I don't mind it's cool, second I feel like u took it personally and idk, I think it's obvious that the post was about certain group of people on the Tristan fandom and NOT ALL OF THEM and at the time I didn't thought that I had to really put the "not all of them" cause like it's obvious that not all of them and said group of ppl is on twt that's it, easy peasy, and about the rest of the fans ofc they know him, your whole argument against what i said does not apply to you so there was no reason to yea.
About being dead focused, when in my post i mentioned canon or something hwkskd wait ā and I also don't mind that people lives out of canon when did I said that that was bad and again when did I said that ppl that does fanfiction is wrong or something waiiiitāanddd the way his fandom perceives him doesn't stop me in loving him why would it stop me on loving him and agaaaiiiiin when did I said that it would stop me on loving him, he's my SECOND child I ain't letting go, I will not let him go Nuh uh and to finish all when did I said that ppl should not perceive Tristan like they want to causeee I didn't say that either. And also about being dead focused why were u so mean š I thought we had a family w three kids š so ye no, I think that a dead focused person wouldn't noticed when a character is hypersexualizazed(Jesus gotta take spelling lessons dawwwwg) in the most random situations of said character cause istg I have seen thing.s on where I said I saw them and no ye that that was mean waiit š
The whole thing about my post was about Tristan hypersexualizationĀæ (Idk how to spell that word) And his hyperfemenizationĀæ (Idk how to spell that word EITHER SJKD) andd if you know me or idk at least had a look to my blog or my art blog I. In fact. Do not follow canon with Tristan. I perceive him as a vkei boy so ye no ye. And I also love when oomfs do their own interpretation of Tristan's character cause they awesome I love em mwah and cause I'm not new to this fandom to know that this fandom lives WITH FANON not with canon, canon is an unknown word to us, and that's it idc at all and whatever someone decides to do w Tristan is none of my business cause im not the Tristan police or something. Wait being the Tristan police will be something like "Wait there, that's actually a color that Tristan would never wear, you will go to prison for that" do u guys think my writing is fire yes or no
And yes the world keeps spinning, it never stopped for me, this is just my blog and I have the right to say anything I want and if you don't like that's fine, ppl don't have to agree w me and I don't have to agree w ppl and ppl don't have to change their opinions on something bc I don't think the same and vice versa, that's all š½ and tysm for telling your truth š¬š
#why is this so long#its loong cause i keeped messing around#BUT UTS MY WRITTING FIRE YES OR NO#and remember that i have the āsensitiveā#in my blog intro#which means that keep it down w me#pls muehe#arepita ask#(I HAVEN'T USED THAT TAG IN AGES

yeah i get more what you mean abt constance, i just jumped to what i did bc i see her get characterized incorrectly so often by ppl just ignoring her problems and character and only using her to take care of other people. so its kind of got a bad reputation to call her the mom friend of the group. by the "point of her arc" i mean the arc being that she's not just kind, there's so much more to her and other people need to realize that- calling her smth that stricly revolves around taking care of others it feels kinda oppositional to that. plus a 'mom friend' is usually associated with being the most mature and put together, which she is shown not to be, but OTHER people percieve her that way in-universe. so thats just what i feel abt it, i think it's just a label thing
That's fair, I totally get what you mean. I agree that there are some people who don't quite understand what they were going for with Constance in RTC. Her arc, at least the way I interpret it, is the one I relate to the most in the choir so I don't just see her as being 'the nice one' or just there for the benefit of the choir either.
Those headcanon pages I made are only a fraction of what I think of the characters and are just to give people a very small taste of how I characterize and perceive them. I understand the confusion, but I promise there's more to my thoughts on them than what's been written down so far.
And, like I said in the first response, I think Constance can look out for her friends and want to take care of the people around her while also having more going on. As someone who really relates to having people pleasing tendencies that have backfired and caused a lot of harm and internalized anger, but is still takes pride in being a 'dad friend' for my friends, I really get that. It's something that, like myself, I think Constance is working on so she doesn't cave to everything anyone asks of her and doesn't accept shitty treatment just to please others, but she still has a desire to be there for the people she loves and help them when they need her.
I do understand that there are certain connotations with being a mom or dad friend as well, but for me personally I think it comes down to two things. One, a matter of a person's willingness to jump to help others, and two, just a general vibe around them. I'm a dad friend because I carry Advil and extra cash incase someone forgets lunch and I jump to defend the people I love right away, but I'm also a dad friend because I wear cargo shorts and patterned button up t shirts and primarily listen to bands from the 70s and 80s.
Constance is a mom friend in part because she wants to care about people, and in part because she just has the aura of someone's mom who when you hand her a phone she holds it a foot from her face and peers over the top of her glasses to read the screen. She also won't take anyone's shit anymore and will call them out if they're treating her badly these days which is also very mom energy.
Anyway, I love Constance a lot and much of how I characterize her is based on my own experiences, so I swear it's not as one dimensional as it may come across in those headcanons. Hopefully I'll get out of the artblock armpit soon and get some new RTC art done and make some new stuff about Constance.

(I loved your dead boy detectives game!)
Hey just read your tags and I totally agree with you with youā in every fandom I have been in, thereās at least one major fanon character interpretation that feels like a misinterpretation to me. So that being said, I donāt think itās inherently bad to make a post with different evidence, because thatās what makes fandom fun! It also might be a relief to other people who also werenāt into the earlier meta analysis. I think where it gets hairy are the little comments like āeveryone who disagrees with me is bad/dumb/stupidā that get tacked on at the end, or direct references to people who like other characters or ships all being malicious. Thereās just no need for that, and Iāve seen it a lot in the past few days from some folks. :/
Games and general analysis spread a lot of positivity though! Thatās what keeps fandom alive and makes people feel like theyāre part of the fun. Thanks again for starting that ask game.
Actually, I started that ask game specifically to meet people!
Big fandoms are usually riddled with ppl who annoy one another, so my strategy is usually to *start* in the tag so I can block any blogs that would stop me from having fun with fandom, and whittle it down to a mutuals group so I can eventuality just use my dash instead.
I decided to use a mixture of surface, deep, and canon-irrelevant questions in order for others who use it to see multiple types of answers that blogs might not post otherwise, and realize which blogs they like. I think asking questions someone might not think to make a post on otherwise can be very revealing. Ask engagement is a really fun way to make friends here!
I think there are definitely points where mischaracterization can be malintended or even just accidentally harmful- reducing characters to either just their actions or just their circumstance runs the risk of stereotyping them or romanticizing/demonizing their behaviors, neither of which makes fandom a fun or accommodating form of socializing. Personally I take a non-confrontational approach and try to narrow my interaction, but I really don't know how to make fandom safer in general. I don't want to waste time on people who don't care, but it is hard to tell the difference between people who will and won't listen until you spend time asking!
Part of why it is difficult (for me) to make that distinction is fandom language. "ship" is a big one! When people "ship" a pairing, I don't know whether they mean it is interesting, whether they want it to be canon, whether or not they think it is healthy, whether they think it is already implied, or some other meaning, all of which change how and if I'd interact with them- and making fandom friends is part of why I'm here! I don't really have a solution here either, but it is pretty hard to navigate and pretty easy to get lost 'round these parts.
It's also hard to tell with popular fanon if people *know* it's fanon
Anyways, half of that was totally irrelevant to the ask bc I got into a tangent, but basically thanks for visiting my blog, even if you don't stay long! Have fun with fandom ! <2
(And one last hot tip! I mentioned going into the main tag before finding the blogs y'all like, but character tags, art/fic/meta-specific tags, and ship tags will tailor more to your taste!)

i mean have ur own opinion but tbh most ppl make art for fun/relaxing/as a hobby/to get away from reality. Why would they look into studies and dive deep into research just to write and make art? Most ppl write/draw for themselves as self expression or sharing their stories mostly with their friends (and even more keeping them to themselves). Like we already have a job/school/annoying irl things and just want to turn off our brains with some art and creating, not rack our brain even more with research so we are ādoing it rightā or we ādont push bad stereotypes/interpretationsā. I understand where ur coming from but in reality, most people just createā¦ to create.
sure, agreed, but see now you're using 'im creating art for fun' as another thought terminating clichƩ. you can argue that there's a mutual understanding between an artist and their audience that their work is supposed to be mindless fun, which makes people less likely to criticize it, but thats not the same as the art being uncritiziseable. nothing you've said here would absolve anyone from criticism. thats... kind of why i wrote that as a sentence in my post
sidenote: if creating art for fun means lowering your standards to the point of nonexistence, that sounds empty as fuck to me. 'create to create' well damn, you can open a doc and roll your face across the keyboard for however long you please. bam, youve created something. is that fulfilling? is your approach to art that void of effort? no actual engagement, no thinking about interesting things, no exploration, no catharsis, no value judgements or appreciation of artistic merit and effort, mulling over words or color or expression - nah, you're just there for dull entertainment. what's the point of just sitting there drooling in front of the screen to keep your mind vaguely occupied for a while? i should hope something about art actually moves you in a non-insignificant way often enough that it makes the whole thing worthwhile, and i don't understand why you can't acknowledge that. why do you try to reduce it in this way? just to avoid criticism and quiet down any cognitive dissonance about it? i dunno

all this to say i think it's meant to contrast art's WASPiness. art has a superrr american name, classic easy to market good old money american (which helps his pro career). Patrick being catholic would contrast this pretty interestingly as well tho given the catholic - protestant dynamic.
but with either interpretation, Patrick's first and last name's etymology cement him and his outsider status in the world of tennis, despite his family's wealth since tennis is considered a WASPy game. but he's still a rich white man at the end of the day and is able to float around the pro circuit aimlessly without having to try. unlike Tashi who is seen as the true successor to women's tennis and was able to get there all on her own, no pretenses. she's a low/middle class Black woman and not some rich tennis boarding school kid (like art and patrick). culture, class, and race are just barely explored in this film but it's all very interesting
anon I am kissing you on the mouth, if you're into that kind of thing!!!
I am fascinated by the class aspects of the film but as u say they are lightly touched on & for myself I don't know USA class markers except thru media so I probably miss a lot.
The way class/race/gender plays into Tashi's story is soOooo!!!! Tennis was something she succeeded at in spite of the ways ppl look down on her. It's in her first lines in the film - her competitor was a racist bitch and a sore loser! She's aware how her race influences how ppl treat her on the court and she is not afraid to speak on it.
Typing it now, I wonder if that was a bit of a test for the boys. Like "you seem interested in me. Can you be normal about me experiencing racism? Can you be normal about me being angry about it?" All that as a teenager!
Tennis was a way to force people to see her not just as an equal, but in the sport, as a better. She's better than all of them! She's the best. And then she loses that. Ugh this adds so much more to the "you're not a member of my fan club?" Scene.
Patrick can be both Jewish and irish American! I vote we explore that one. There's so much to say about the conditional nature of the white privilege Jewish ppl can have in the global north - I usually leave that to my Jewish friends to explore but I Have Heard About It! The actor has Jewish & irish heritage fwiw.
Also fascinated with Patrick's relationship with his generational wealth. Like, clearly he has it. Ppl reference it. But he has eschewed it to pursue tennis. His family have decided he can be a rich man or he can be a tennis player (third option=getting a different job. Unexplored). He has made the choice that results in sleeping in his car and not EATING between competitions.
Like that seems like dramatics of a man who has never known true precarity. and yeah partially! But also, have you heard of financial abuse? I had friends in college studying degrees they didn't want for careers they hated the idea of. Because generational wealth meant they didn't qualify for financial support from the state. Leaving them dependent on parents who can withdraw their support at any time if they do something which looks Bad for the Family. The capacity for abuse in these situations is staggering. And yeah, he could get a "real" job. He'd have an easier time doing that than ppl without his class background. But the man would literally rather starve. And he is.
I would love to know what u think of Art's class background! I feel its least explicitly explored of the 3. I saw someone saying he didn't come from money at all and I thought That's Not Right I Saw His Grandmother's Ring. But I really can't say beyond that
#Seriously anon this is exactly the convo I wanted when I posted that....this is some Good Fucking Food#Challengers#challengers 2024#Me Fein#Film

hi carrot . just wnat you to know the finale made me genuinely sob so much i had to get the tissues out and everything
thank you so much for making this game, i remember playing it for the first time a year or two ago and even though it was like 3am i annoyed my brothers about how good it was despite them hating gore. this games impacted me so much in such little ways
genzou and iggy are my entire world btw god i love them . also cannot stop thinking about when genzou wakes up and he looks around he specifically looks at his legs (because arc 4....) oogh and and theyre so adorable..... plz never stop drawing them.....
ALSO confused about the ending a little bit
so when iggy made the wish it flung everybody back in . in time or to a separate timeline ?? where events happened but they handled them better. was the tidbit about remembering things in heart but not mind about the wonderland in general or specifically the time loops arcs? im curious if its like/ a whole separate thing now
plz keep making games like this :[ (no pressure ofc, its your life you do what you want/can in it!)
im probably gonna gk draw the chaeacters now ... thank you :] <3
(SPOILER WARNING FOR THE FINALE)
ahhhh this is incredibly sweet. thank you so much!! i'm really happy that you enjoyed the finale (and also the whole game in general!!!) LOL I DON'T PLAN TO STOP DRAWING THEM AT LEAST FOR NOW š¤£ they are pretty rooted in my brain, so i don't see myself not drawing them any more any time soon. though i have been kinda needing to rest up my drawing chops as i drew so much for the finale and epilogues that it really burnt me out art-wise
re: the ending, it's something i don't ever want to like explain super cut and dry. as i really want people to take away their own responses and interpretation of things. same as the whole rest of the game. it's why i don't like to give a lot of "word of god" type answers that ppl could then use to say "it's this way and that's that" or anything like that. i would much rather people continue to have their own theories and own interpretations of much of what happens in the game and with the chars
but i will say that that part is not really about flinging anyone back or to another timeline or anything like that. iggy destroyed his initial wish (along with all the other wishes). and his wish was what started the loops (and also what influenced every part of his life from that moment on). so when that wish was destroyed, it also destroyed everything that happened after it. which is why it took them back to before iggy had made his first wish
however, they still retain memories of all the past lives / loops in their subconsciouses, which is why they still randomly remember things from time to time and feel such a strong connection to each other
i hope that helps clear it up a bit lakdjfasd but as i said, it's really up to the player and how they also interpret things and come away with their own meanings! nothing in this game was ever really made to be completely set in stone

I feel like something so many ppl just donāt get is itās improv. Iāll see ppl be like āI hate this arcā or āthis dragged onā Iām like?? If you want to watch a curated tight fantasy story with a normal beginning middle and end maybe donāt watch long form improv media? Also maybe Iām just fundamentally misunderstanding what ur post is about. Iāll constantly think and say āitās their gameā not as a ātheyāre above criticismā way but more in a ācmon itās not like this is a script thatās being poured over by ten ppl sitting in a room debating whether this 30 seconds drags or notā. Like I love Play it By Ear from Dropout but Iād never hold it to the same standard as like Six the musical or whatever. Improv/normal media requires a completely different rule set for criticism imo
Hey anon,
So here's the thing - I agree with this in terms of formal, published criticism (Ebert's Law, if you will) where you are, to an extent, grading on a scale; you should be judging on what the work is trying to achieve and not some abstract ideal that applies equally to all works regardless of provenance.
However, for personal discussion (including your own personal Tumblr blog)? This is totally irrelevant. You're allowed to dislike things, whether it's a 30 minute improvised musical or whether it's the Marriage of Figaro, for any reason. It is 100% valid for someone to look at the Mona Lisa and say "eh, doesn't do it for me," and, moreover, it's just as valid for them to say "it doesn't do it for me because I don't care for representative art and prefer abstract, modern works, but Da Vinci's sfumato technique is indeed masterful" as to say "It doesn't do it for me because it's fucking weird to me that she doesn't have eyebrows." People's enjoyment of a work is not necessarily reliant on effort put in or how much the artist cares about - it should be based on how much the art appeals to them.
It's fine if people hate an arc. If they hate it so much that they aren't able to enjoy watching, then I think they should probably stop watching...but that's a choice for them to make, and as someone who loves complaining, I've talked about arcs dragging and had it interpreted by total strangers as "you clearly seem to hate this" when really it was just a case of me...not liking some aspects of a larger whole, and choosing to talk about that because I had things to say. Like, I do think the early Campaign 3 pacing was deeply frustrating, and I do think that this wouldn't be the case if it weren't improv, but there have been many improv actual plays that I felt had great pacing, and also it was still frustrating to me and I wanted to express that.
In fact, what I was getting at in my post is that if you're trying to provide a counterpoint to other people's criticism, you need to focus on the points they're making; and if you're trying to defend something in general, you need to be talking about what you find good that is specific to that thing, rather than making excuses like "the cast likes it" or "it's improv".
To give an example: I love the Aeor arc, which was, to an extent, divisive. Here's two responses I could have:
"I think the Aeor arc built up to a satisfying and emotionally charged final boss fight that was thematically resonant with the Mighty Nein as a group. I think the path there had a good balance of adventure, combat, and RP scenes, especially given its position as the final arc of the campaign and the one in which many of the character romances were realized. Eiselcross was a fun and well-crafted environment that was challenging for a party of their level, and Aeor provided new insight into the Calamity, which at the time had not been explored in depth, while also providing a lot of opportunities to tie into the arcs of the various individual characters, notably Caleb and Caduceus. I also personally am a big fan of exploring fallen technologically advanced civilizations in a fantasy setting as a trope."
2. "Well, it's the cast's table, and it's improvised."
Both are true, but the first one lets people know what I see in that arc and why I love it. The second one ends the conversation, is true of almost everything Critical Role does, probably doesn't address anyone else's complaints, and doesn't even explain why I like it. And for what it's worth I don't think meta needs to address anyone's complaints - you're allowed to look at the Aeor arc and say "cool, I think it took too long and dragged and was too stressful" and we can part ways knowing we are different people with different tastes. But if I were, hypothetically, passionately trying to defend the Aeor arc and were openly resentful towards people who disliked it, the first option is obviously superior to the second option, which makes me look like someone who cannot come up with a single specific reason why this thing I allegedly love is good, and who is whining because I lack the maturity to accept that my opinions are not universally shared by all.

i relate to that bottom/top kyman post so much dude lol. everyone's allowed to have their opinions or whatever but wow i am not a fan of most people's depiction of it. like most sub kyle art just screams fetish-y to me instead of actually being in character - there's no way in hell kyle would let cartman do most of the things he makes him do LMAO
Thanks man š I totally agree, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks this. I don't mean to "yuck someone's yum" because tbf people can do what they want with their own art (including fetish stuff), and I'm not gonna tell anyone to stop making art that makes them happy just because it's not to my personal taste. But it's just SO pervasive that it's got me second-guessing myself like "have I been wrong about this the whole time??"
Another thing that really bothers me about these depictions of submissive Kyle is that a lot of them come across as inherently antisemitic, though tbf I don't think ppl do on purpose. There's a great masterpost about this by @urspopinionsareshit (who's not a kyman shipper). She's gotten beef from the larger fandom in the past for calling out antisemitic portrayals of Kyle, especially in ships like style or kyman, but imo the hate she gets is completely unwarranted because... she's right!! So often you see Kyle in fanworks depicted as weak, submissive, unathletic, sickly, timid, inexperienced, etc. which just screams "stereotypical Jew", but all of these traits are unequivocally not in his character. Kyle is Jewish, but he is also strong, aggressive, sporty, argumentative, and intelligent. Again, I think most ppl don't do this stereotyping on purpose, but it's a really insidious phenomenon that you see everywhere in this fandom.
Ultimately it's all subjective interpretation and maybe I'm just kind of bitter that my own preferences/interpretations are harder to find in the fandom š¤·āāļøš« but wcyd. I'm not gonna go around policing the kind of art ppl want to make. However, and this was mentioned in the replies of my prev post, I would still appreciate if more of it was at least tagged, esp anything with specific fetishes, so I could set up filters for it on twitter or AO3 and curate the fandom space to my own preferences better.

Yesssss š spill the beans
Ok so theres this one hispanic artist on twt called Nico, right? They were already fairly known on hispanic mcyttwt and then got into qsmp and ended up rlly liking the Brazilians, which brought a lot of Brazilians to follow them
Later, Nico also started shipping spiderbit, and started making fanart of them. The thing is, right, they draw Cellbit as this way taller and more muscular guy, while making Roier smaller and more effeminate
THERE'S WHERE SHIT HITS THE FAN a lot of ppl started being like "UGH why is Nico making Roier to be the twinkish more feminine one??? And why is Cellbit so much taller and strong??? This is so heteronormative, it's forcing Roier to be the 'woman' of the relationship"
If you want my opinion, I find it funny as fuck. Nico is literally one of the rare ppl that draw Cellbit this strong and I'm just watching Nico having fun, their art is rlly some of my favorite overall due to the lighting work, the expressions and the poses. I literally don't care that much about the body type, specially since Nico is the exception, not the norm
The thing is that a lot of brs on twt started talking like it was a ship wide problem. Like EVERYONE was drawing spiderbit as One Strong and One Twink when overall i see the fanart be p much balanced
Also, Nico has drew nsfw of QRoier once, and everyone is feeling weirded out by that. All I can remember is Roier chasing after nsfw art of him and ppl blocking him to keep him at bay SHDNSNFN but they're saying like it's a break of ccroiers boundaries
They're also saying that qRoier being effeminate is bad but its a valid interpretation seeing Roier's character. Also. Effeminate ā weak, for fucks sake
Anyway, its blowing all over br qsmptwt, ppl are giving their "hot takes" about the situation, and i cant help but keep laughing and finding it funnier everytime

3 & 8 for the fanartist ask? hope youre well <3
WAH HIII thank uuuu i am doing well ty fr asking <3 <3 <3
3. what sort of compliments do you love hearing?
gJHSG i'm not picky at all tbh any compliments r enough to make my day :'> i read tags like the morning news n if i see something particularly sweet i screenshot it n put it in a lil folder on my desktop to look at when i need a pick-me-up.
I wld be lying if i didn't have favourites tho :'>>> don't get me wrong keysmashes n short and sweet compliments r never unwelcome but whenever people leave extended tags rly explaining what they like about a piece or how they interpret certain details i included,, or if they have a bit of art knowledge themselves and are able to comment on specific technical elements i use...thts the good stuff . i eat tht shit up it is like crack to me
I also get a special kind of thrill when i get ppl crying/telling me they're in my walls/yelling at me threateningly (pos) in the tags of an angsty drawing sdghjfgj ik those r not exactly compliments but it means i have done my job well so it counts :3
8. what inspires your art style?
I mean i'm a fanartist so i think it goes without saying that the themes and look of the media itself will inform how I approach making art for it hjdsfk . like, in my fruits basket era my style definitely leaned cutesier than it did/has for tg/banana fish/jjk. in the same vein, the work of other artists also in those fandoms has always been something that inspires me almost as much as the source material. everyone is so fucking talented sdhjhgfdsj no matter how happy i might be with my own progress at any given moment i'm always looking at other artists and styles I admire and trying to kirby them into my own stuff :)
but as far as parts of my actual /style/ tht transcend whatever fandom i'm working in, I think above all else I'm inspired by things I see in real life and find beauty in
in the past I have spent a lot of time doing more. static (?) fanart where the main focus was often the character's clothes moreso than where they were or what they were doing. ik part of that was definitely because I wasn't comfortable enough in my technical skills to push myself to draw more elaborate scenes, but it was also due to the fact that at that time in my life, I was mainly inspired by fashion and people I found beautiful. lately i've been much more focused on emotions, intimacy, and little pockets of time--i want to draw moments that make you want to hold them between your fingers before they slip away. lately i find myself thinking about what it's like to be loved or left and overall just the nature of time passing, and i think those themes have definitely made themselves known in my work. the light the colours the themes i use,,. it's all hopeful and sad and fleeting and beautiful to me, or at least i try for it to come across that way.
