Why such a strict no spoiler policy btw? It's not like it's gonna change whether or not people know the song and/or like it? Not complaining just curious for your reasoning
Because the point of this poll blog is to listen to the music with an open mind and no prejudice against the artist/song/genre/language/decade it's from etc, and just press like or dislike based on the song clip itself after actually have given it a listen. :) That's why the clip is so short, because if it appeals to you you'll be wanting to listen to the whole thing, if not, then at least you heard some of it and move on.
Also for people to have some whimsy in their lives. Poll #600 seems to have been a delightful surprise for many who didn't know what they pressed play for :D 💖
See it as me presenting you with a little gift, maybe not wrapped up in the prettiest way but you still get to unwrap it and discover the surprise by yourself. 🎁 Everybody likes unwrapping gifts :D
There are so many great music poll blogs out there on tumblr that lets you know straight away what it is. This one was created specifically just about listening to unnamed songs. Because the other option would be to just post a youtube vid/spotify link but it wouldn't appeal to me to make a poll blog just like that. Reading peoples thoughts and opinions about the song whether they know it or not is what makes this even more fun to keep up with. :) (even when the opinions from some of you are WRONG! 🤣 lol j/k)
Spoiling the songs here in reblogs takes away the curiosity/surprise/whimsy people might have about an unmarked little clip (and they might already have negative or positive feels about the song so why not just a youtube vid right away)
And lastly I get so sad to see spoilers because of all the time spent to actually do these polls. This blog does take a lot of time to keep up with, more than some of you might think. And just with making the polls themselves, getting the audio if i don't already have it, listen through the songs I might dislike to get a good clip, try to post it as audio, get frustrated when tumblr won't let me, turn it into a video, upload the video.....and then see people name it straight away is just... 😐 so, yeah. i see people bitching about me bitching about spoilers, but if passing on a little whimsy gift to others isn't your thing, there are other music blogs. :) 💖

Do you have any recommendations on how to proceed or start to make a psychosis plan? Maybe especially for religious people?
I do! This post will be lengthy, but if you want to be prepared for the real possibility of psychosis, I think it's all important.
First of all, something that I believe ALL people should have, regardless of their risk factors, is a psychiatric advance directive (PAD). Think of it as a living will, but specifically for mental health treatment. In the USA, in many places it is legally binding, and protects you from coercive or forceful psychiatric treatment, particularly treatments that you might be pressured to consent to while you're vulnerable.
Second, talk to someone you trust (a family member, close friend, or life partner) about how you would like them to respond in the case of a psychiatric emergency. Designate at least one person to take point on helping you receive treatment in a psychiatric emergency. Psychosis not only makes it difficult to make decisions for yourself, but it also makes other people (including mental healthcare professionals) not trust or respect the decisions you do make. Find someone who you trust to treat you with respect.
Third, do research ahead of time about the psychosis programs in your area! If there's a First Episode program nearby, then make sure you know how to get in touch with them. These programs can really make a difference, and in about a third of cases they're able to help patients never have a psychotic episode again. However, a lot of primary care doctors and even therapists don't know about them, or don't think to refer you to them. If you have designated someone to help you in case of psychosis, ask them to fight like hell for you to get into the First Episode program. It's life changing.
For a religious person, I really recommend making a personal creed or list of beliefs you hold, and keeping it close and accessible. I have one on my phone. It helps to know what you believe, because psychosis, particularly religious psychosis, can really get that mixed up. An extremely common symptom of psychosis is confusion, and in religious psychosis that can make your religious beliefs get confused as well, and that can be really difficult. Also, it's just fun and comforting to have a creed, I actually just recommend that whether or not you're making a psychosis plan.
Another rec for religious people: identify prayers you find calming and comforting and write them down. I like finding prayers from the saints. Specifically avoid anything that invites mysticism. I know there are a lot of mystics on this site but I'm actually very serious, mysticism is very close to psychosis in the brain and it can be a trigger for increased symptoms. This definitely includes the Jesus prayer.
Above all, I think the best preparation for psychosis is working on the stigma you probably have absorbed regarding psychosis and its effects. Even in neurodiversity affirming spaces, there can be a lot of stigmatizing language used about people with psychosis! You should read personal accounts of psychosis and recovery. Talk to people who are in psychosis, or have been in psychosis, about their lives and experiences. In my country, there is currently a rise in psychotic episodes and conditions due to use of certain substances, and yet there remains a huge stigma against talking about it. Make sure you learn and internalize that psychosis is not life-ruining, it does not define a person, and it doesn't make someone "one of the bad ones." Psychosis is just another facet of the human condition, and it's not by definition the worst case scenario. If you do end up experience psychosis, you are still valuable, still worthy, and still loved! Always keep that in mind.
This post is kind of long, but I hope it's helpful. I feel very passionately about this topic because I have been in a treatment program for psychosis for several years, and through that I have met a lot of people who wish they had made a plan ahead of time. Best of luck to you!

Hello lotf fandom guess whos gonna rant abt something again!! Warning this rant is going to be about the pig scene so tw for mentions of sa and also religious trauma cuz thats what im gonna talk abt because i have a slight feeling it could also kinda slight be showing stuff bt that and not JUST how they veiw women (before i rant i want to make it clear that ik the main context/meaning behind the scene is that its meant to show how women are seen/treated this is just somthing i kinda got from it based of personal experience and hearing from other ppl)
Okay, so why do i get this feeling? Honestly, it's mainly due to the fact that this scene is all of the hunters/ choir boys who obviously due to the crosses on their clokes went to some type of religious, most likely Catholic school. Even Simon, who was also in the choir while he doesn't participate in the murder of the sow, he does watch it all. Also the fact that i don't think personally that children act that way without having reason to think it's okay. If you can't tell by other post i have i personally think that when the nature nurture convo is brought up, nurture is the reason why people act the way they do more, especially for children because their brains aren't fully developed yet and cant really properly make their own decisions and opinions which is why so many people have completely different veiws then they did as children. So my main concern is why the boys all thought this was so okay. And back on this scene all being the choir boy's while not all churches are bad you cant dismiss the fact that a lot of people have been sexually abused by people in the church who had power over them. Especially during the time period this takes place. Simon veiwing all of this, but just watching and not speaking up under this context can symbolize 2 things. 1: A child in the church knowing/seeing another child be abused in this way but not saying anything out of fear or because they think it's normal or 2: other members of the church ignoring the signs of abue like this happening because the person doing it has power over them. Idk if any of this makese sense but it does in my head and honestly reading it with this idea just made me feel even more uncomfortable with this scene like dude who taught you that was okay whos ur damn parents and what have you seen because that is in no way normal child behavior i am concerned 💔
I would like to hear otehrs thoughts on this idea because im kinda attached to it because I've been through stuff like that. i just can't get the idea of this being hinted out of my head 💔💔💔

Okay, so I shouldn't likely take the bait on this but I will this once to say something in case someone comes across this and it does the bad thing of embedding into the back part of your mind: You are allowed to leave a relationship at any time at all. Three days. Five years. Twenty years. It doesn't matter. Sometimes there's nothing even wrong necessarily except that you grew apart from each other. People can (and do!) love their partners and end up needing different things in a relationship. It's okay if you have come to that point and you realize that the sacrifice for the relationship won't make you happier than leaving it. It will hurt, but not as much as growing resentful of them for giving something you really wanted up when they couldn't make up the deficit in the end. That isn't a failing, it's just life.
As to the second post in this: if someone has a structured timeline for the events in your life like this, run. This isn't funny, this is the biggest of red flags. Your relationships are personal and if they are going to be meaningful and healthy, you shouldn't be forced to throttle them with an imposed timeline that makes you feel pressured into decisions about them. In the grand scheme of a marriage, especially if you are being pressured to marry young, a year is no time at all. There's plenty you will not know about a person in only a single year. Six months is nothing. Some people are going to be running full speed into this kind of relationship with enthusiasm and it's not up to anyone but the participants to decide if that's going to work for them or not. But impositions like the one in the second post present clear indications on specific expectations and almost certainly, in a case where someone is expecting to be married by such a tight deadline, there will be other expectations. These are going to include what you can or can't do with your body. How many children you will be expected to have. What kind of role you will have in your own home. When someone sets out a clear and non-negotiable timeline for when you should be making a decision about what ought to be a pretty large change in your life, it's never for your benefit. Healthy relationships aren't like that and this is how people end up in abusive places that become difficult if not impossible to escape.
As always, you are the one to make these decisions and I hope you will think about them as much as you feel you need to. Even if you do, it's possible to make mistakes. Just don't let someone else force you into one. Take the time you need. Talk a lot. Walk away if it's time. Do not give up your autonomy or be pressured into a decision because someone told you that time is running out. You have a whole lifetime to figure out living.

Seeing arguments around your atheism post, i find it really fascinating how atheism is portrayed on both sides… It really seems like people (including some atheists) see atheists as all having similar relationships with religion, or spirituality, or even with science! Almost like seeing atheism as at least a common *framework* of a belief system, when it is solely the LACK of a belief in god. There are many people who will jump to say “Well atheists believe in SCIENCE”, and sure there are many atheists who say their beliefs are in fact rooted in science… but even without personally knowing anyone like this, i am fairly certain there are people who are atheist, who are also not scientifically literate at all. Im atheist simply because i was not raised with any religion, and there was never anything that made me think i SHOULD believe in god. Nothing about that is inherently incompatible with also being like, an antivaxxer or something.
But then there are also people who say “well atheists THINK they believe in science but are just CLOSE MINDED”. And while again, atheism =/= science… we really cant make the standard “if you cant definitively prove this is false, then you cant be confident it is”, because its just actually impossible to prove that something does NOT exist - There is no definitive proof anyone can give me that I, personally, am not secretly capable of levitating things with my mind and just choose not to do so, but if you’re confident that I cant, I wouldnt say thats close-minded of you…
It’s interesting to me honestly that theres debate around it at all, given that your post was essentially “isnt it bad how this group isnt *supposed* to hold their beliefs with conviction, but others can?”, and I do not think that’s unreasonable
Don't have much to say here but I think it deserves to be posted.

seen a couple posts talking about the ending of the drv3 chapter 5 trial so here's my personal take:
shuichi and kaito didn't "ruin" kokichi's plan, because it never would have worked in the first place. monokuma had too much control over the whole situation. i think monokuma threatening to kill everyone and kaito stepping out of the exisal was the only way that trial could have ended, regardless of what shuichi did.
it's partially because of kaito's nature and partially tsumugi's as the mastermind. we know tsumugi will do ANYTHING to keep the game going, including breaking the rules, so if there was an unsolvable murder i guarantee she would bend the truth to make it solvable. she's not going down that easy.
kaito didn't completely understand kokichi's plan- he was only doing it as a favor from one dying kid to another. the second it looked like his friends would get killed because of it, he jumped ship. kaito cares too much about others, and not enough about himself, and he would never have risked his friends being executed.
if kokichi's plan DID work, and they voted kokichi as the blackened, i don't think THIS monokuma would have let it slide. it would still be an incorrect vote, and tsumugi clearly doesn't care about the rules the way junko did. she'd kill all of them and have kaito "graduate." i don't think kaito would let that happen, and i don't think he even had enough faith in the plan to GET that far, especially if monokuma started pushing him to reveal himself the way he does in canon. he didn't care about "tricking the mastermind" the way kokichi definitely did- he just cared about making sure everyone made it out alive.
that isn't to say that kokichi DIDN'T care about everyone else (clearly he very much did), moreso that he cared a lot about fucking with the game itself. he hated the game, and he hated the audience, and i think, crucially, he hated the killing. his view on it was different than kaito's, and while they both wanted to "end" the game, that meant different things for each of them.
kaito is headstrong and easy to anger, and extremely loyal. kaito made the conscious decision to murder kokichi, and he did it to save maki. there was, of course, the element of wanting to "end" the game, but i really don't think that was his main goal. it was a killing game, and he chose to kill, even if it was for someone else. kokichi gave kaito a reason to kill him, but kaito still chose to commit murder. i think the guilt of that was eating at his pride, and that's partially why he showed himself at the end.
kokichi and kaito are both flawed people, and they made bad decisions. kokichi's crazy ass plan was a shot in the dark, and it was desperate, and both of them were dying. shuichi did the best he could with what kokichi gave him, and i don't think enough people give him credit for that. he even tries to backtrack when he realized kokichi's actual goal!!!! the plan was just so flawed from the beginning, because kokichi still had no idea who the mastermind was, and he didn't trust anyone enough to ask them for help (you could argue he DID trust them with the plan after his death, in his own convoluted way, but it's behind so many layers of distrust that it was doomed to fail.)
i think we all too readily believed the idea that, if it worked, this plan would end the killing game and everyone would live happily ever after. MAYBE in a junko-run killing game, like ch6 of trigger happy havoc, but not with tsumugi. if they voted kokichi, i think monokuma would have smoked kaito out and then killed everyone. it wouldn't have been a checkmate.

Hiiiii, omg it soooo nice to see new people writing for One Piece, specially that write for that many characters, because I was gonna ask just for some strawhats, but then I saw you write for so many other of my faves that I couldn't stop thinking (sorry I'm rambling). I would reaaaally like some Beckman, Mihawk, Katakuri, Kinemon and Rayleigh (I would prefer if it wasn't poly for Kin and Rayleigh, not that I dislike Tsurujo or Shakky they r great, super badass, I'm just being extremely gay right now) with a male or gn reader, that keeps calling them not just handsome and hot but also cute and pretty and beautiful (I did that with my boyfriend and its really cute when more manly people get soft compliments, that just don't expect them). If you want of course, but thank you either way.
OLDER MEN POST (you picked out some yummy men especially the last two)
Beckman shakes his head at you everytime you do it. Beckman isn’t really used to “softer” compliments as he’s typically been in superficial relationships that are purely sexual in nature so when complimenting him like this he doesn’t mind it, just isn’t used to it and is probably kinda flustered and flattered by it (secretly, you probably have no idea tbh since he hides it well). Secretly likes it but probably won’t admit it. He usually will give an amused smile and then tease you with something you knows may fluster you instead, (like a compliment or a nickname)
Mihawks expression will not change but his face almost looks… brighter somehow.. when you say such things about him. He’ll usually reply with a compliment of his own with a straight face. Though he treats your compliments as if you’re stating a fact, since that’s what he does. So he’s just like, confused when you call him cute. “I certainly hope I’m not.” Is typically his response.
Katakuri is far more… flustered by this. I’m gonna be honest I can see him being like a nearly 50 year old (yes he’s that old) virgin. (Oh my god why is he 48). Katakuri typically gets red in the face by being called cute but will typically say “im not cute..” while the tips of his ears burn crimson. He’s just not used to compliments unless it’s related to his strength and how cool he is. And yeah perhaps girls have come onto him and have called him attractive but never something like this.. like just seeing him as a person capable of being soft, cute. Katakuri sometimes gives you a shy “thank you” cause his brain can’t form any other response.
Kinemon is so flustered oh my goshhhh what a nerd. Anytime you give him any kind of compliment, whether it’s calling him sexy or adorable, his entire face goes beet red and smoke steams out of his ears. He’ll probably stutter something about how you need to stop embarrassing him so much with your lovely words, he truly isn’t worthy!
Rayleigh (happy late bday btw) loves it. Though certainly not something he’s ever received before (besides maybe Shakky… or Roger as a joke and perhaps because Roger is just a flirt like that) he welcomes it. Will return the compliments in full but Rayleigh has a habit of making it dirty really fast (low key a perv sorry) but he’s always romantic about it. Truly a man that can make you swoon. He’s a man that is praised by pirates, he’s a man that even in his “retirement” is feared. So like, just kinda nice you just give him soft compliments like that.

I just had the most lightning-strike-my-brain realization
(extreme SPOILERS for the entirety of Clair Obscur, do not click on this post)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Think about it, oh my god....
To put it into words rather than a couple images - this game tried and succeeded to include and then deeply humanize every type of antagonist it could. Each member of the Dessendre family is a different type of Sympathetic Villain, to the point of them becoming Sympathetic Antagonists. Because they are ALL antagonists in some way, and they are all humanized, the player of the game's mind whirls and sorts them all in the "character" category instead of the "villain" or "antagonist" category.
What was brilliant while playing was that whenever you thought you had come across a character who was purely a villain - surely Renoir, who kills Gustave right in front of you, surely he's just a villain? You were wrong. And there were like 5 different types of these characters. Renoir - the archetype of shitty wizard villain who is Killing Everyone for Love, and Killing Everyone Also For Very Good Reasons Beyond Love, who would suffer and wait and plot and kill for thousands of years if it meant his family would be safe and whole again, who must Kill His Love To Get His Love Back, who is an extremely reasonable man but is in an extremely hard position where his back is to the wall and he must make sacrifices of others. The Emet-Selch type
Verso - the archetype of shitty wizard villain who is a tortured good man who must join a party of heroes and then lie to them about his purpose and his past and his true identity, even falling in love with those he is lying to, in order to Kill Everyone and Destroy the World to protect a true world and its true inhabitants. He also wants an end to his personal suffering, but doesn't see a way. The Solas type
Maelle/Alicia - the archetype of shitty wizard villain who is very understandably trying to escape from the real world and her real self and her real problems, even if she must hurt others, or torture and puppeteer the dead to do it, refusing to part with them. This is the type of villain that Batman holds hands with and comforts.
Aline - the archetype of shitty wizard villain who is so caught up in the throes of grief that she does not realize who she is hurting or the devastation she is causing in her grief (This is the type of enemy like when you fight a crazed wounded dragon as an antagonist or something, a pitiable enemy.)
Clea - the archetype of shitty wizard villain who is impatient and uncompromising, and willing to do whatever she needs to keep herself and her family alive, even if it means creating a horde of monsters and dismissively letting them roam with no oversight and kill people just to get a little bit of an edge, or a sliver of time advantage. The unconcerned antagonist in her secret lab who does things coldly but for good reason.
And the best part is Clair Obscur took all of these ideas and all of these kinds of antagonists, and not only did it humanize all of them extremely well, it gave each one of them a melancholy but happy ending TOGETHER. It's simply amazing. They all lived. They all won.
The real problem was all the shitty wizards being sad. It's literally the perfect story.
So no wonder all the reversals come out of nowhere, and no wonder that no matter how much foreshadowing they slather on Verso, you can't seem to mistrust him, because there are SO many other humanized villains and antagonists in this story (even the monsters are humanized and speak to you!) that you can't believe that there will be another one. You can't believe it. And it makes the writing keep striking in a really unexpected way.
It's so smart because these are all usually the fan favorite characters, so for a game to say, why not have the majority of the characters be like this kind of cool and reasonable but very dangerous nefarious wizard character? The answer is, why don't people do this ALL THE TIME

things are coalescing in my mind.... ( hopefully yall don't mind being tagged! if u do just lmk and i'll remove it <3 )
@nists art and its statement about solas being a desiring and willing partner to elgar'nan...
@charamei's meta about elgar'nan as a spirit of faith...
all the voice lines from the fight, including the data-mined (and voiced!) lines that @flowersforthemachines posted here....
the dialogue between solas and cassandra during inquisition, such as:
Solas: You seem troubled, Seeker. Still plagued by thoughts of your order?
Cassandra: I... am reminded of what I was told following my vigil. They said my abilities were a gift from the Maker, a reward for my faith and dedication. But it was a trick, wasn't it? A ritual no different that the Harrowing, simply magic...
Solas: Do you know how rare spirits of faith are? How difficult it is to draw them to this world? You should be proud, having accomplished something so remarkable, not ashamed it was not what you thought.
Cassandra: Thank you, Solas. That... does make me feel better.
Solas: Your faith does you credit, Cassandra. I hope your Maker is worthy.
and cole:
Cole: I am sorry your friend died, Solas.
Solas: Thank you, Cole.
Cole: I didn't know there were spirits of wisdom.
Solas: There are few. Spirits form as a reflection of this world and its passions.
Solas: We will never lack for spirits of rage, or hunger, or desire. The world gives them plenty to mirror.
Solas: The gentler spirits are far more rare. We can ill afford the loss of even one spirit of wisdom, or faith...
Solas: Or compassion.
Cole: I will try not to die.
Solas: Do that, please.
and this banter, also with cassandra, which does not directly touch on the subject but does give us some insight into solas and his concept of faith, and specifically how he does not really have faith as such, but believes in people - perhaps a change from believing in faith (Faith) once
Cassandra: Solas, if you do not mind me asking, what do you believe in?
Solas: Cause and effect. Wisdom as its own reward, and the inherent right of all free willed people to exist.
Cassandra: That is not what I meant.
Solas: I know. I believe the elven gods existed, as did the old gods of Tevinter. But I do not think any of them were gods, unless you expand the definition of the word to the point of absurdity. I appreciate the idea of your Maker, a god that does not need to prove his power. I wish more such gods felt the same.
Cassandra: You have seen much sadness in your journeys, Solas. Following the Maker might offer some hope.
Solas: I have people, Seeker. The greatest triumphs and tragedies this world has known can all be traced to people.
and i am connecting the fucking dots here
(okay i am actually open to many interpretations and hold multiple interpretations of things simultaneously, but this is giving me a very compelling angle to explore)
elgar'nan as faith. solas as wisdom+pride (bc i do think he was tapping into both aspects regularly). solas asked to take form to help quell elgar'nan, perhaps because mythal could see the corruption beginning to take root, or perhaps because of the titans more than elgar'nan; nonetheless, he took form and walked amongst the evanuris for so long
somewhere in that span of time, approached by elgar'nan or approaching him, discussing things at length. conversations that lasted days, weeks. debates that were heated but never angry. faith and wisdom+pride pushing each other, but never maliciously. a rigorous scholarly exercise
and then. the beginning of the end. elgar'nan growing a little colder, a little sharper. making more demands of those who followed him - willingly. the wars taking their toll. fewer debates. more arguments, or more condescension. solas, bitter and hurt, retreating to mythal... much later regretting this (not because of mythal tho) since he is convinced that he could have reached elgar'nan at this stage, could have made him see what he was becoming
solas being disappointed to see a spirit of faith being corrupted, trying to stem the tide (alongside mythal, in my view!), but eventually losing the battle. the deep regret of that; of, one, having someone you care for slip away, become someone - something - else; and, two, having that someone else become a tyrant. believing that you had a chance to turn them from that path if you had only done it right. the weight of that regret... and how solas is so shaped by his regrets...
different angle on solar'nan and i am Thinking About It 👀
i also want to include this bit of solas and cassandra banter, because i feel like it touches on solas' view of the evanuris, of course, and arlathan, and organizations - very possibly including his own rebellion - but can also be looped back to more broadly referencing the corruption of, in this case, elgar'nan and how that was the beginning of the end for an arlathan he remembers fondly:
Cassandra: I noticed, Solas, that you did not seem surprised by what I uncovered about the Seekers.
Solas: No? They are an organization.
Cassandra: You think organizations to be inherently corrupt?
Solas: Given enough time, yes. To survive, an organization must devote resources to maintaining itself. Those resources inevitably accumulate until the original purpose, however pure, is all but lost.
Cassandra: You make the Seekers sound like a mindless beast.
Solas: A beast, no matter how mindless, will die and give way to a successor. An organization is eternal. There are always corrupt men who hoard power for their own gain and there are always honorable men who hoard power to fight them.
side note, i absolutely love his "No?" the question mark. solas the man u are.

I often see posts like this and get to asking myself: "what IS body horror?"
Like, if you don't count ideas such as disability or disfigurement then what does count. What is body horror? Is it the idea of using our own biology to create fear? Are gore filled meat hallways body horror? They most certainly have aspects of a person (that being the whole flesh meat thing) but I feel like that tries to create a general feel of discomfort via a scenario with terrible implications that couldn't possibly happen to you.
Why don't disabilities count as body horror? At what point can a disability be effective body horror, if at all? Having a disability can in many ways be a scary concept (we live in a society that allows people to be worse off due to circumstances outside of their control, which is a kinda scary conversation to me) but that only really applies when the disability itself is used rather than the disabled person. What if I had been born "wrong"? Is it scary to think about the possibility that that suffering could happen to anyone? That it could happen to you?
If the point of body horror is to create fear, then how can you be afraid of your own body? How can you be afraid of your own being? It's you, you've lived in the body horror all your life, for most people, it'll never hurt them. Maybe that's the idea? That your flesh prison can betray you? Is getting old body horror? Amputations? Is the idea that your own body isn't necessarily safe inherently scary? It's just a human, we all know that our bodies can fail us? Is there a disconnect between what we understand to be true and how we feel? That seems likely, that we would feel invincible despite knowing otherwise? In that case a disability could be quite terrifying by bringing our fragile state fully into mine. Is the idea of "disabilities aren't body horror" more about fighting oppression than actual fear? If that's the case I understand, the idea that a person simply being disabled makes that person scary is foolish. A person with a disability isn't inherently scary, the disability itself is scary in a way. Maybe the idea behind these representations would be to try and play on inherent human discomfort around people that are different from us, discomfort isn't fear though, in the same way a hard plastic chair isn't scary neither are disabled people. Disabilities are far more complex than chairs (shocking I know) but is one scary while the other is not? There are scary things about a plastic chair, ecological damage, possible exploitation, maybe the idea of being for ed to sit in one. There are scary things surrounding disability as well, oppression, discrimination, prejudice, alienation. I think the issue comes from the fact that people are the mechanism by which a disability must be delivered, historically the disability has been ignored and the person given all the attention, they aren't scary, their condition is.
...are wounds body horror? What am I even talking about? I'm confused and curious and I've basically forgotten what I was trying to talk about.
Tumblr media
I think that there's a very meaningful criticism to be made wrt body horror and how it often can handle disability or disfigurement in an extremely reactionary and prejudiced fashion but I feel like you've lost the plot if you can sincerely say shit like "cancer isn't body horror" like I dont know I think its pretty scary to have cancer. I dont feel like we need to defend the role of cancer as a natural process of the body. Like that's not comparable to people acting like a cleft lip or a guy in a wheelchair are spooky. Pregnancy is pretty scary too like even before the question of forced birth and other such social violence surrounding it are involved. I think you're sort of dancing around the fact that the human body does frightening things to us all the time and the question of what is "natural" should in of itself be actively questioned because sometimes "natural" things are... bad!

Making A Buddie Post on the Buddie Circle Jerk, I Mean, "9-1-1" Reddit
Here's the post I'm about to post. I'm ready for the nutjobs to come out and downvote me to oblivion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~POST~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm ready to be downvoted into oblivion and have my post removed because the mods are psycho Buddie fans, because I know this isn't actually a 9-1-1 sub, but a Buddie sub. So, even though I have strong feelings about how much I've come to dislike Buddie over the years, I've actually tried to not be a dick about it.
I'm going to start this by saying, I used to be a Buddie fan. But two things happened that snapped me out of that delusion. One, fanon is not canon. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a fanon ship. I love many fanon ships that I know, or at least assume will never and have never been canon. I don't let that stop me from enjoying them. And two, the behavior of so many Buddie fans has almost ruined my 9-1-1 fandom experience for me, and I've been watching the show since literally a few days after the season 1 finale. (This does not mean that all Buddie fans are horrible assholes. I know they aren't, and I know some BT fans have been assholes, too. I'm not excusing any of it. We all need to do better. I'm just talking about my experience in the 9-1-1 fandom over the last several years.) I've just spent the last two hours scrolling this sub and trying to decide if I was going to join, but all the circle jerk around Buddie has made me roll my eyes. Like what you like, but claiming Buck and Eddie are soulmates, that they're going to kiss and confess their love to each other in the season finale, when both Ryan the actor, and Eddie the character, have said Eddie is straight, is just leaving yourself open to disappointment.
They've had almost 7 full seasons to put them together and they haven't. This isn't some slow burn friends to lovers crap. These two guys are literally best friends. The actors and people in charge of the show aren't going to tell you that it's never going to happen because they assume the Buddie fandom is bigger than it actually is, and they want to keep stringing you along like they have been all this time.
If they tell you that Buddie isn't going to happen, they're going to lose a few thousand people in the 9-1-1 fanbase and while I wouldn't give a shit, they care more than they should. I'm just going to say, I don't know what's going to happen in the season finale. I haven't watched any previews or seen any stills. But I'd be pretty surprised if they went the route of Buddie after all this time.
If they don't actually do anything romantic with them in the finale, please don't crash out like you all do every time they never get together. I would think after almost 8 years of them just being friends, and family, that you'd take the hint that the writer's just want them to be friends, and there's nothing wrong with that. What you guys, and what I used to want to see, is stuff they threw in to just keep stringing you along.
I'm sorry it hasn't happened so far, but at this point, I doubt it's ever going to happen. They don't seem interested in going there.
[cue the 'and another thing' meme]
There are so many instances of Colin being smart that gets glossed over in favor of the whole 'clueless'/'loveable idiot' thing the fandom often pins on him. I think it's a shame we don't get more of his journals, but there's a fragment that was posted a while back of another piece of it
Tumblr media
"Another day in paradise but things are truly starting to loose their luster. The libraries are beginning to look like a graveyard, with old books and ancient things scattered around the room. The lights are dimming(?). It is not that i am not keeping delightful company because I am but I miss my family now more than ever. After my travels last year when I wrote so much and received very few replies. I am trying out a new personality. A new way of seeing the world and interacting with others. I want to be less needy, less insecure, while still maintaining the core of my vulnerability that makes me who I am. For I am a Bridgerton man."
And this is such an introspective viewpoint he has. It's logical, but it's also tender. (and it breaks my heart, it really does) Colin wrote so much, didn't get much back, and felt it deeply. He saw how he was being rejected by others and internalized it, and decided that he needed to change to have better relationships. To be accepted. That's deeply emotionally intelligent. It's an intelligence of the self and an intelligence of the people around you.
To charm itself is a highly intelligent act. It requires an understanding of the people around you, the dynamics that are at play in the given moment, how to subtly discern people's feelings. Colin being able to change for the sake of fitting in and then accomplishing it is a feat of intellect. He has listened to what those in his society have said, he has emulated the men of his society in efforts to be more well liked, and then he is.
Then has the spine to turn around and reject it.
Also, his writing itself- The libraries are beginning to look like a graveyard, with old books and ancient things scattered around the room.
Colin uses wordplay, puns. He's fast on his feet. He has a response quickly, like the have you ever visited a farm? and to take our sticks out! exchange. We shall gallop along. He strategizes, like when he knocks Kate and Anthony's Pall Mall Balls into the woods.
Colin quotes mythology, waxes poetic! Leander swam Abydos to Sestos every single night in complete darkness to see his love
He literally geeks out with Philip and drops the scientific name for golden buttons during their discussion. "Oh, these are coronopifolia. I saw so many of those in Paxos."
Even his travels are part of his formal education. He's going on a grand tour. To study. Art and literature and culture.
He's a nerd.
Like. That's very much part of why Penelope likes him. They can have good conversations and riff with each other about Byron and be cheeky together with their if the host gets fussy, do you think we all have to leave? and their you're just soooo smart flirting.
"The weight of the crown is heavy. The queen might seek to prove herself still significant and equal to the task.' 'Is that not the pursuit of all mankind?' 'I believe it is!'
and
'One must make a name for oneself if this life is to mean anything at all' 'A noble pursuit' 'Thank you, Pen'
They were flirting. They were nerd flirting. They were flerding!!!
Justice for my boy.
When They're Sick
Ever since I did the post about Bo and Vincent with a sick S/O I've wanted to do how the characters act when sick so. Enjoy.
CW: Murder mention, drug mention, very brief sex mention
Characters: Luigi Largo, Amber Sweet, Blind Mag, Nathan Wallace, Otis Driftwood, Baby Firefly, RJ Firefly, Bo Sinclair, Vincent Sinclair
Luigi Largo
Doesn't get sick very often
The Luigi in my brain does not like germs
And was also a sickly ass child
So he's very careful about illness
Insists that when he IS sick, he's very manly about it
I do think he'd push through a headache or some small symptom (though several GENterns do not make it through, such is life)
But when he gets sick sick?
Oh BROTHER
Man baby alert clean up aisle GeneCo
Very grumpy and insisting this is the WORST ailment in the history of ailments
He has the common cold
Demands nursing but is a pain in the ass about it
No he doesn't need you to feed him soup but since you're already here...
I don't think he'd let many people see him like that tbh
Which mostly just means that as his partner you should be prepared to handle the brunt of it
Good luck catching it!
Amber Sweet
Probably doesn't know she's sick tbh
She's lounging about high off her ass
Nothing is different from a normal day
Does need pampering but it's the normal amount
Tbh I think she's toughing it out better than Luigi
I don't think she's often sick either
If you ask she'll tell you she can't remember the last time she was sick
Could have the bubonic plague and be treating it like mere allergies
This one is short uhhhh Amber Sweet is more of a badass than she gets credit for pass it on
Blind Mag
Sick the normal amount for a person
Very graceful about it
Like she feels like shit but she's not really mean
Does take a day or two to recuperate
Bring her soup but she's going to worry about you catching it
Not very chatty, because she doesn't want to risk her vocal chords
Might take some convincing but yes, she would like some cuddles
Reciprocates if/when you catch it
Or if you're sick at all
Remember when ppl really wanted tuberculosis bc they thought it was romantic? Mag embodies that
She has the flu but she still manages to look stunning all pale and sickly
The author's barely disguised love for Mag
Nathan Wallace
I KNOW I DON'T LIKE HIM BUT
In his defense
He's a parent
He is absolutely trucking through it
Unless he is literally unable to stand he's not acknowledging that he's sick
"But Vee, isn't he a doctor?" That doesn't mean he follows his own advice
Gets through cold with a pack of cough drops and a prayer
Any partner of his would have to really wrestle to get him to take a break
I think how often he gets sick directly correlates to Shiloh's age
Little children are illness machines
Toddler Shiloh definitely wreaked havoc on that man's immune system
"She was locked away from the world how would she get sick" Never underestimate a toddler's ability to bring sickness upon a household
Otis Driftwood
Never sick
That guy has an immune system of STEEL
Bacteria tell their children about him to keep them from misbehaving
Otis Driftwood is a germ
BUT IF HE WAS
He's not admitting it
He is acting it
On his death bed talking about 'I'm fine'
Does still get pissy if you don't dote on him
Another guy you have to just accept catching the illness from
Still trying to fuck
Don't get too tender about it or he'll be mean
He'll be mean either way actually
Baby Firefly
I don't think she's sick a lot either
She's subjected to just as many germs as Otis
Fairly normal? For her anyway
She wants your attention about it
But she's not mean like Otis
Will admit that she's sick and just go lay down
But she wants you to come cuddle her
I'm getting very 'sick day when you were a kid' vibes
Watching TV and drinking 7-Up kinda deal
Like she's not exactly stoic but she's not being a giant baby
Naps through it
Still cracking jokes when she is awake
Generally not a bad time
RJ Firefly
See Otis and Baby
Stoic
He's everything Otis thinks he's being
He clears his throat like. Double the amount he usually does
Probably you have no clue he's sick until you get sick
Then he's like "oh my bad"
Doesn't actually say it like that
I don't have much to say here
I want to nurse him back to health
He would never let me
Someone write a fic where he's sick and someone takes care of him
Bo Sinclair
Sick an average amount I imagine
Probably has allergies real bad
Like anyone in the US South I feel
MAN BABY MAN BABY
On his death bed with the common cold poor thing
Very resistant to any kind of help
"I don't need you babyin' me"
Yes he does
Keep at it long enough and he will give in I feel
This guy has mommy issues in his deepest darkest heart of hearts he wants to be taken care of
He just also has daddy issues and will refuse to accept being taken care of
He didn't know you were supposed to dilute those cans of soup with water
You can change his life with a single can of Campbell's chicken noodle prepared correctly
Another guy who tries to get horny with it
Less aggressive about it than Otis
Because he really just wants to take a nap
Lowkey annoyed when you inevitably catch it
Vincent Sinclair
Also sick a normal amount
What can I say the Sinclairs fall pretty close to the 'just a normal ass guy' end of the Guy to Freak spectrum for me
Less of a man baby
Will admit that he's sick, but is also capable of realizing a sniffle won't kill him
Will BECOME a man baby if you're not very, very careful
Open to being taken care of
Probably really sweet if you bring him something, squeezing your hand or kissing your fingers
But if you're too good at it he starts milking it a little
He's like a cat when they learn you give them extra attention when they limp a little and suddenly they have a mysterious injured paw
Let him tbh he deserves it
You down for fever cuddles? Better get down with them
I agree with the spine of this post, viscerally. Also, I apologize in advance for being excessively verbose.
We absolutely need to be asking why does psychiatry pathologize certain clusters of behavior as moral failure? what is the function of calling a personality "disordered"? Who benefits from the idea that some people are just simply bad by virtue of their diagnosis-- especially when a lot of those traits are adaptations to trauma, survival mechanisms, and/or shaped by systemic abuse?
psychiatry is and will always be political. It reflects the values of the systems that it was born in (white supremacy, colonialism, class hierarchy, ableism, misogyny, etc) and it has historically been weaponized to disappear dissent, deviance, "madness", and non-normative ways of relating.
That said,
I think calling NPD or ASPD "Bad Person Disorders", even satirically, is missing the mark a bit in a way that's worth pointing out. It reduces the conversation to a binary which accidentally reinforces the very stigma it's trying to critique.
It's not just that the DSM slaps a moral judgement onto survival traits. It's also that these traits can and do cause real harm, often repeatedly, especially in intimate contexts. And we don't do anyone favors (disordered or not) by pretending otherwise. We should not excuse that harm by saying, "Oh, but they're just traumatized," nor should we dehumanize people by saying, "they're just evil manipulators."
Both takes ultimately strip people who have these disorders of agency, nuance, and the ability to be held accountable without being discarded.
The reality is far more messy:
People with NPD and ASPD are often profoundly traumatized.
Their behaviors do hurt people.
They're often dehumanized to justify mistreatment.
They're also sometimes shielded from the consequences of their actions under the guise of destigmatization.
We need a better framework. One that lets us be messy, be human. We need a framework that allows us to say "This behavior is harmful" and "This person is still a person" and "The system that defined this behavior is wrong" and "None of this excuses abuse or cruelty" all at the same time.
I will admit here: My reaction to posts like this is partially knee-jerk. It's not just an intellectual disagreement, it is a wound flinching.
I've been abused by multiple people with NPD and ASPD. Diagnosed, confirmed, one of them was even in treatment.
I keep seeing this cycle play out where survivor voices are either ignored, downplayed, or dismissed as ableism the moment we try to speak about the very real, very patterned abuse we've endured from people who have been given these labels. That does not sit right with me.
When I see posts that seem to wholeheartedly reject even the possibility that people who have been labeled with these disorders might have specific inclinations towards certain kinds of harm, it feels invalidation-- Not just to me, but to so many others in survivor communities. Speaking for myself, it feels like the pain of my abusers is being prioritized over the pain they have caused. It feels like survivors are being told to sit down and shut up for the sake of someone else's liberation.
This is what I keep coming back to though. If we're serious about dismantling the system of psychiatry, there has to be a meeting point. The reality is diagnoses like NPD and ASPD are inherently steeped in racism, carcerality, and social control. They have been used to brutalize people, especially people who are already marginalized and trying to fight for themselves. That is real. That is important. That matters.
But so does the other side of this: countless survivors have been profoundly harmed by people given those same exact labels. The violence endured by survivors isn't a political abstraction but our lives. When survivors speak on this, we need to be heard rather than dismissed as "reactionary" or "ableist" when, by and large, we are simply using the only language we have available to make sense of their experiences.
But it is not going to be possible to get free without each other. I really do not think it is. The only way forward is together, and that is going to mean grappling with the messy reality of holding multiple truths at once and dealing with the painful overlap between them.
No excusing of harm done to anyone. Naming all of it, and trying to figure out what healing might look like if we stop pretending anyone has a monopoly on pain.
On the question of ASPD and NPD I honestly wish the debate would be less about "you can have Bad Person Disorder without being a Bad Person actually" (true) and more so "why is there a Bad Person Disorder and what political purpose does it serve". Like the fact that we are literally and officially diagnosing people as Inherently Bad™️, usually due to trauma reactions, and treating them accordingly should elicit a lot more criticism than it does
As a kid, I read in a crafts book how eggshells could be used to make chalk. Have people done that with the pea eggshells? I’d like to think of the pea hens seeing a boundary drawn in chalk and then crossing over it with no care.
I don't know of anyone that has done that! Most people who have backyard birds either throw the shells away after hatching, compost them, or feed them back to the birds (after cleaning and baking and crushing them). Some people blow the shells out and paint or carve them, or do other crafts, but I don't know anyone else that does it for peafowl. I posted the cache of empty shells I had prepared for artists, and peafowl people got VERY upset that I was not trying to hatch or personally eat every single egg my birds produced, without a care at all for if I had the space and money to care for that many babies, or if the eggs were even fertile, and without asking if I even COULD eat the innards (like on infertile eggs the birds had sat on for a couple weeks.... no one wants to eat that...). I can't imagine any of them thinking far enough outside the box to make chalk.
The peahen would not walk over it without a care.... she would probably try to eat it lol
