Ida meets Ney in Russia
I dimly remember that somebody (Cadmus?) mentioned they wanted to read more from Ida. So hereâs a brief snippet of Ida â for once â getting in trouble with her hero, of Ney scolding her and ⊠being jealous of EugĂšne?
The meeting takes place somewhen in late 1812 or early 1813, as much as itâs possible to tell from Idaâs chronological rollercoaster ride. In any case, after or at the end of the Russian retreat. Because of course Ida had joined the Russian campaign as well.
And not only she. If any tumblerinas here plan on learning how to time travel and want to go back to see the Grande ArmĂ©e march towards Moscow, they donât need to worry about incognitos. Most likely they would barely be noticed, as apparently there were wagonloads of groupies following their heroes around.
Okay: four. But thatâs only those ladies Ida travelled with. Plus, two of them died on the way back.
Ida was particularly fond of a Polish-Lithuanian girl named Nidia, as madly in love with general Montbrun as Ida was in love with Ney. Not that either of the two got to see their idol much during the march. As a matter of fact, the first thing Nidia learned before entering Moscow was that Montbrun had been killed at the battle of Borodino. Other than that, Ida claims to have had a bad feeling about this city from the start:
As we entered Moscow, occupied at last by our troops, this immense city seemed to us like a vast tomb; its empty streets, deserted buildings and solemnity of destruction were heartbreaking. Despite the pomp of victory, I felt struck by I don't know what new kind of melancholy when I saw it; the flags seemed to me gloomy and almost surrounded by funeral crĂȘpes and black forebodings. We were staying in Rue Saint-PĂ©tersbourg, near the Miomonoff palace, which was soon occupied by Prince EugĂšne. The sight of this young hero and the cheers of the soldiers, who adored him, gave us back all the illusions of victory.
Okay, so I just added this because itâs so rare to see EugĂšne receive some praise. (I should also mention that the adored young hero was growing bald at an alarming rate and that his bad teeth were killing him.)
As a matter of fact, Ida claims that Nidia was especially interested in EugĂšne because he was rumoured to maybe become king of Poland (yes, another candidate). These rumours did really exist, EugĂšne mentions them in a letter to his wife before the campaign started. (And he also makes it pretty clear that these are just rumours and that he has not the slightest ambition to stay in this country. He may have used different vocabulary than Lannes but he didnât like the region any better.)
The following night, Ida and Nidia wake up to a burning Moscow and are saved by soldiers of 4th corps. On the retreat, they seem to have followed headquarters as closely as possible, which was their safest bet to stay alive (because where the emperor is, thereâs food and firewood and a resemblance of order) but still witness horrible tragedies. After the crossing of the Berezina, they apparently followed the remnants of EugĂšneâs 4th corps to Marienwerder, before Nidia says goodbye and goes back to defending Poland.
But before, on the way, at Valutina (?), Ida finally sees Ney again
At this point, after the retreat, Ida at least starts to question her decision to follow the Grande Armée around. Or something like that.
I have just recounted my fatigue, my difficulties and my perils in a war beyond human endurance, because of the new aspects it seemed to give to destruction and death. A powerful feeling made me undertake everything and endure everything. Why was I going to face the hazards of a campaign? Why was I going to expose the weakness of a woman to the rigours of a climate of iron? In order to obtain yet another glance from the one whose smile had always paid me for my military errands. This look was always like a world offered to my hopes; the dream alone of this reward had made possible all the impossibilities of time, distance, sex and fortune. My life was thus burnt for a few hours, still uncertain. I was giving up everything for a moment in space. Alas! this time, how I was going to regret this moment that had cost me so much to conquer! I had just gambled my existence for a flash of happiness, and this flash, the quickest of my life, became the cruelest.
I had to spend three fatal hours in a miserable shack on the outskirts of Volutina. My dress was so horrible that it was a real disguise. In a person dressed like that, one could hardly suspect a woman. Ney, however, only had to look my way to recognise me. To have been seen was enough to have been discovered. I was about to rush to the front of this first happiness; I was about to testify to the soul of my life how proud I was of this divination of friendship, of this perspicacity of memory, when words of an energy which was far from that of the feeling of which I was possessed, intimated to me the order of the most positive dismissal: "What are you doing here? What do you want? Go away quickly." With this address and a few short, curt rebukes about my reckless rage and my fury at following him everywhere, I only had the strength to reply: "It is a rage, indeed, but it is not at least the rage of pleasure or vanity," pointing to my coarse clothes and my face burnt by the sun and faded by fatigue. He took no notice of either the harangue or the costume. He was off and running. His displeasure at seeing me there was so great; he let it out so vividly that I thought he was going to push me back to the opposite bank of the Dniéper in his anger. Stunned by the reception, struck by lightning, I remained motionless for more than an hour, staring at him, thinking I saw him; he had disappeared without paying any more attention to me or worrying about me.
From which we can deduct that Ney was not a reader of Jane Austen novels. Otherwise he would have known that whenever you have behaved in a way that made a woman fall in love with you thatâs f-ing your fault, monsieur!
In 1813, when I recalled to Marshal Ney this scene of such violent fury, followed by such cruel silence and abandonment, he told me that he had been so mortally frightened by the extravagance which had pushed me into the midst of so many perils and the licentiousness of an army, that he had even been tempted to beat me. Truth requires me to admit that the temptation had been so strong that he had, I believe, yielded to it a little; it was without his knowing it, for the great passions know neither all they want nor all they do. Anger is therefore still love, since it is as blind as fury.
Girl, get help. Seriously.
When we crossed the DniĂ©per at Serokodia, I could have had another word with him. A new laurel had just hidden his wrongs and healed my wound. I could have, I wanted to say to him: You have just added to your immortal glory here; you alone have just saved Frenchmen lost in deserts of ice; I would have liked to express to him what all parties repeat today, what posterity will proclaim on the ashes of the brave... But I stuck to the joy of hearing the distant cheers. There was then a little fear in my delirium for him, and I almost have the idea that I idolised him even more by fearing him in that wayâŠ
Did I mention the thing about getting help?
Yes, even the reproach was appreciated by my heart, and still seemed to me a tender interest. I found I don't know what pleasure in hearing myself scolded later for my association with Nidia, my marches and counter-marches with the Viceroy's troops. No matter how many times I told the Marshal that EugÚne's protection had been focused exclusively on the young Lithuanian girl, and that I had slipped unnoticed into this benevolence, he took it into his head to believe nothing of these sincere protestations. To make him reconsider such a strongly conceived idea would have meant exposing myself to a repeat of the Dniéper order and military correction. I had no intention of trying the same pleasure twice. Finally, he saw the evidence of my attachment, and he found the generosity to prove this belated but strong conviction to me [...]
By calling her his brother-in-arms, by the way. And this, I believe, really meant a lot to Ida.

This is a post of gratitude. Maybe tumblr isn't the most appropriate place for this, maybe it sounds silly and needlessly pretentious coming from a little nobody that I am. Regardless, I have long felt the need to write about it. News about the Leopard tanks from Poland might be a good enough occasion to finally say it.
DziÄki, aÄiĆ«, thank you, people of Poland, Lithuania, UK, US and every country that has consistently supported Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion.
Maybe we, Ukrainians, don't say it enough, but we know that we owe our lives not only to our defenders, but to all of you, citizens of countries that didn't abandoned us in these dark times.
Every day on the battlefield my country loses its best men. People who were teachers, doctors, architects and actors, parents, sons and daughters are sacrificing their lives in the name of our survival, our future. Hopefully, with the support of your countries, their sacrifices won't be in vain. Thank you for giving us a chance for the future. Thank you for not leaving us alone in this.
War puts everything into perspective like probably nothing else and it teaches you how to be truly grateful. Only earlier today I wanted to complain that due to the destruction of our infrastructure and emergency power outages, in my apartment it is so cold that I can't even hold the phone in my hands for long - my fingers are freezing. But then I quickly remembered that our fighters in Bakhmut and Soledar are losing their fingers due to the frostbite. I am alive and have a roof over my head thanks to these heroes.
What does this have to do with the topic of this post? Well, the same way I often want to complain about the injustice in this world, I want to write something angry about how russia is not punished enough for the crimes it commits. But then I stop myself, because had the world did not help us throughout these 10 months, had the world just let it slide like it did in 2014, I would likely be homeless, imprisoned or dead, along with millions other Ukrainians. Ukraine could no longer exist by now. Because this is a war of extinction, cultural as much as physical.
Which is why I want to say thank you. Not only for the weapons provided by your countries, but for giving us hope, especially in hard times like these, when the enemy on the eastern front is literally bombarding our troops with cannon fodder in unlimited quantities, turning cities into ruins and meat grinders.
Thank you for helping us to overcome this senseless evil. This post may be cringy and poorly written, but my gratitude is sincere.

the witch's heart: a story about the giantess angrboda, whose union with loki produces three unnatural children: the wolf who will swallow the sun and moon, fenrir; the world serpent, jormungandr; and the keeper of the realm of the dead, hel. they live their life at the edge of the world, away from prying eyes, in domestic idyll bliss...until angrbodaâs visions plague her, and she sees her children responsible for a large part of the destruction that ragnarokâthe end of timesâwill bring about. are her children monsters? how far does a mother's love go to protect her unnatural children destined for destruction? these are the questions at the heart of the book and they really truly tugged at my heartstrings. i wasn't prepared for how emotional this book made me feel. at its heart it is a story about family, about motherhood most of all. my budding interest in norse mythology also greatly upped my enjoyment of this book. i'm definitely going to keep an eye out for more books by this author in the future. i can't believe this is her debut!
these feathered flames: inspired by russian folklore, twins asya and izaveta are thrust apart by two separate destinies: asya trains to become the firebird that keeps magic in check in the realm, and izaveta trains to be the next queen. however, tragedy brings them back together: the death of the queen. suddenly izaveta is crowned the new queen, and asya prematurely must take on the role of the firebird. tensions rise between the sisters, who not only have not seen each other in years, but whose new positions have never really worked in tandem with each other before. the sisters must navigate growing political tensions as well as try to figure out whatâor whoâkilled their mother.
in my personal opinion this book promised more than it delivered, and i think if the execution were a little sharper I'd have enjoyed it more. i wanted to get more of a feel for the characters. it was there, but i wanted more. i admit i enjoyed izaveta's parts more than asya'sâi think i have a thing for ice queens trying to navigate their new roles (god....not to bring up frozen, but i was so excited for elsa's character and....they just didn't do anything with her). izaveta reminds me of what elsa would be like. also, i'm sorry, but...the f/f enemies to lovers romance that was a big part of this bookâs hype absolutely failed to do anything for me. i so wanted to like it, but unfortunately i couldn't care for it. and i know it's because i didn't care enough about the characters that i couldn't get invested in their romance. if i can't care about them as individuals, how can i care about them together? also, the pacing of their relationship was just not it. i also expected this book to be steeped in russian folklore and culture the way the bear and the nightingale wasâwith that book, i felt like i had truly stepped in medieval russia; it was dripping with culture. but with these feathered flames, it felt like just a little dip into what should have been a richer world. yes, there is russian food and clothing and names, but i still felt the impression i was reading about some vague european setting rather than a fully established russian one. all in all, it wasn't terrible, but it didn't really do much for me. i give it a generous 3.5/5. i might pick up the sequel.
ariadne: ariadne and her sister phaedra are princesses of crete, who have grown up hearing the thunderous bellows of their brother, the minotaur, in the massive labyrinth underneath the palace. every year fourteen tributes are brought over from athens to be sacrificed to the beast. until one year, one of the tributes turns out to be the legendary theseus, who vows to defeat the minotaur and end this cycle of violence and bloodshed (yes! suzanne collins was inspired by the myth of theseus and the minotaur). ariadne falls in love with theseus and aids him in killing her brother. but what does this mean for herâis this betrayal worth it?
i enjoyed this book. i think by now i have a soft spot for mythology retellings (thank you madeline miller đ€), and the writing in these kinds of books is close to my own style, so i love that. i had originally thought the entire book was going to be about the maze and the minotaur, but it's just the first part! i won't say what happens, but...things happen. like all mythology retellings, this story too takes place over the course of the subject's life, so there's a sense of the passing of time. i must say that the writing is gorgeous and so expressive. it was a real treat to read. i think the overall reason i don't Love this book though is because 1) the ending was rather abrupt, and 2) the main theme, to me, really just boiled down to 'men ain't shit'. which....yeah, valid, but also i sort of wish it was a little more substantial than that. i wish it had something more to say too. i remember sometime around the middle of the book i just paused and was like, âokay but what's the point? what is this book trying to say?â but regardless, i really and truly sympathized with the women in these book, mortal and immortal alike. they had it rough....we still have it rough....the universal timeless experience of being a woman.
the poppy war: *shrieks* i'm so glad i gave this book another chance. i could not put this down. it's the better 'orphan goes to boarding school' story. in fact, the first part tricks you into thinking it's going to be cutesy boarding school antics. but holy shit....no. no. this is a horrific story about war.
the poppy war is a historical military epic inspired by the second sino-japanese war and overall chinaâs bloody twentieth century. knowing a bit about east asian history myself i could actually recognize some of what was going on in this book. main character rin aces the keju, a nationwide exam that seeks to root out only the most talented youthâand is accepted into the most prestigious military academy, sinegard. however, tensions are fraught just across the sea as the federation prepares to make its move against nikan, her home. rin soon realizes she has an affinity for shamanism, a mythical power that calls upon the gods, and which might just be the key for winning this war and saving her people. but is this great power worth the even greater cost?
the best way i can describe the writing in the poppy war: it's a shounen anime come to life. the action is so amazingly written and explosive, from the swords to the magic, especially the way it's interspersed with the emotional moments. the way everything is written, i can see everything happening so clearly in my mind's eye. it's such a visceral experience. the writing just flows.
but this book is about war, first and foremost, and all the horrors that come with it, down to every last garish detail. it takes a lot for a book to unnerve me, but this one did and more. it made me uncomfortable and disturbed and horrified. this book delves into war intimately, not a small dip but rather a full submersion. there's a section detailing carnage in a city that's just going to stay with me forver. it's like that scene in mulan where they abruptly fall silent as they reach the massacred village, except every inch of that carnage is described in full intimate detail. it's not for the faint of heart. at one time i clapped my hand over my mouth because i couldn't believe what i was reading.
and it asks questions about war, too. who's right, who's wrong? is any of this justified? is vengeance the way to go? and the thing is....it's not. duh. venegance is Not the way to go. we all know this. but oh my god the way r. f. kuang writes, you want Nothing more than pain and death for rin's enemies. you want to see them suffer in the worst way possible. like rin, you want to get back at them in the worst possible way. and it's like...yes venegance is not the answer but you want her enemies to hurt So Badly. you start thinking, maybe it's okay, because they're so horrible and vile and inhumane, retaliation is the only possibly course. vengeance Must be served. but then.....what does that make you? what is the cost of vengeance? can you pay it? can you ever? is it worth it?
this book is insane and epic in the best way possible. i'm so glad i gave it another chance. the world building is so rich and lavish and the cast of characters is huge and i care for each and every one of them and i'm just. So Invested in what's going to happen next. SO MUCH happened in this first book, i'm still reeling, i feel like i've read two books in one sitting. i can't even predict what's waiting for me in the next book, which is a whopping 650 pages....i'm going to be fed so well.
also, here is a list of triggers. please exercise caution going into this book as it deals with some very dark themes:

A larger-than-life bust of Lenin sits in a tucked-away park in the southeastern city of Kotka â but since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the monument is suddenly at the centre of national debate.
The sculpture was received as a gift in 1979 from Kotka's Estonian twin city Tallinn, which was at the time part of the Soviet Union. Since then, the statue has been the target of vandals and protesters.
At the onset of the Winter War in 1939, Kotka was one of the first areas bombed by the Soviet Union. The city's Lenin bust sits near a building where civillians were bombed by Soviet planes. The municipality has already received requests to remove the statue and put it into a regional museum, rather than destroying it outright.
Kotka sociology professor Juhani Pekkola has wanted the Lenin statue removed from the city centre for some time.
"The bombing of civilians is a war crime. A monument like this is in the wrong place. Instead of the aggressor, we should remember the people from Kotka that died in the bombing, the heroes of the war, the children of the war, and the war orphans," Pekkola told Yle.
Two-thirds of respondents in an online survey by local newspaper Kymen Sanomat said they would like to remove the Lenin statue from the park.
Finland has a complicated history with the founder of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin. Lenin spent time in Finland during the turn of the century and was the Soviet leader who signed the documents granting Finland independence in 1917.
That history was prominent during the Cold War, when Moscow had a strong influence over Finnish society and Lenin was promoted as a friend of Finland despite his role in Russia's wars and the Red Terror around the foundation of the Soviet Union.
In 1946 the first Lenin Museum outside the Soviet Union was opened in Tampere, where it is still operates today. Besides Lenin busts, the Soviets also gifted other statues in communities across the country as a means of spreading influence within Finland.
However, after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Finland's Lenin statues have come under greater scrutiny. Critics have argued that the sculptures insult those who died at the hands of the Soviet Union, while proponents have argued the pieces are tied into the history of Finland itself and should be considered works of art.
In mid-April, Turku decided to remove its own Lenin statue from the downtown due to the controversy surrounding it. Turku received it as a gift in 1977 from the city then bearing the name of the revolutionary, Leningrad â or, modern-day St Petersburg.
Preserving history
Russian and propaganda researcher Reeta Kangas, from the University of Turku, has considered these statues to be historical monuments. As an art historian, she would like to save monuments that may occupy an uncomfortable place in the public conscience. Kangas said she thinks the monument can take on a new meaning through open discussion.
"You can talk about things and not just cart statues off to one of the art museum's warehouses to collect dust. It is difficult to see the monument actually glorifying Lenin anymore, but it has remained a document of the past," Kangas explained.
Kangas questioned the rationale behind Turku's decision to remove the city's Lenin statue. In her view there is a political reason behind it â Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"I don't understand the logic. After all, there is a statue of Alexander I in Turku, and no one responded to that statue, even though it symbolises the same great power that Putin has," Kangas pointed out.
Lenin Museum weighs in
The director of Tampere's Lenin Museum, Kalle Kallio, also sees no connection between Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the Lenin statues. The Lenin Museum is the only surviving museum dedicated to the revolutionary outside Russia and is in a former workers' hall where Vladimir Lenin and eventual longtime Soviet leader Josef Stalin first met in 1905.
Kallio agreed with Kangas, citing an inconsistency in the removal of statues
"Helsinki's Senate Square has a statue of Czar Alexander II. In our history, he is the 'good czar' who allowed the use of the Finnish language and during which time the markka [Finland's then-currency] came. If we do not accept Lenin, then why do we accept Alexander II?" Kallio asked.
Statue's future?
The Kotka Municipal Council is still deliberating over what to do with the statue.
Some council members are opposed to its removal.
Councillor Leena Griinari (Green) said she would like to see the statue of Lenin remain at its current location but considered an explanatory sign necessary. Griinari said she sees the statue as a work of art by sculptor Matti Varik, the Estonian artist that was commissioned to create it in 1979.
"Here is the irony of the artist that Lenin only has one hand, and it isn't his left. One can wonder whether it is a certain kind of subtle statement or not," Griinari pondered.
In 1995, a sculpture of Lenin's missing arm was unveiled near the statue as part of an art exhibition.
"I think this whole thing is full of symbolism. Of course, it is worth preserving it on the basis of art history, but also on historical grounds," explained Griinari.
The removal of the statue raises the question of forgetting or changing history. Kallio from the Lenin Museum treats these statues as merely statues, and he does not think that the perception of the past is altered whether a statue is indoors or outdoors.
He referred to the statue controversy in the United States, where there has been a desire to remove monuments that glorify the legacy of the Confederacy. Supporters of segregation built the majority (siirryt toiseen palveluun) of these statues in the United States as a response to the civil rights movement throughout the 1900s.
"If the people of Kotka decide that Lenin's place is no longer outside, then it would be possible to remove the statue. But you have to be consistent. There may be other things that could no longer be on display anymore if we painted these issues so broadly," reminded Kallio.

'Meeting friends' : New chapter for "Redemption in a Spirit in a Cold War" is out !
"Meeting friends"
Chapter Summary : As Yirina has discovered that Zasha was still alive and the mysterious source helping the MI5, it's time for Park to meet Yirina's friend......
To read it on AO3, click here !
Words : +3300
-------------------------------------------------------------------
It was Zasha all along......Zasha....my best friend, still alive after all these times, three years that I didn't see them as the last time I saw them was before I left them going away while me, I had to return back either to Russia or somewhere else as maybe asked by Perseus. Three years that I wasn't able to fullfill my promisi to protect them because an asshole decided it was better to left me in an lost place in the north of the USSR for dead instead of letting me live my life but fate....has changed almost everything today.
Realizing the day of my birthday that Zasha was in fact the mysterious MI5 source they called R. was something I never actually expected to happen, believing at first that it could have been anyone else from Perseus but it was my code that was used....a code that only me, Zasha & Portnova know well and if it was the MI5 who received the transmissions, it could have only been Zasha themselves since I know that they were going into England to join Dedov.....that never actually left the USSR....captured by Perseus and that letter in that memory where I recomfort Zed....it was an fake one. I have to fullfill my promise I kept years ago : protect my friends from Perseus.
I know it was going to be hard for me to see them again but I had no choice but to bring them back with me at my side to fight against Perseus. There's things that we couldn't have done together, things that I wasn't able to do too and it was time to catch up the lost time now that we found each other again.
"So, what now ?" Zasha asked as we both stepped out of the apartment complex in the street, with them behind me, still holding their personal bag where they have taken everything that they need and we need too.
"We're gonna join my friend and then, we're maybe gonna go back to West-Berlin." I replied, stopping myself to look at the direction where Park was awaiting for us to come back "You're sure that you want to go back there ?" They nodded to me at my question.
"By the irony, you're going to bring me back to the same city where you helped me escape." They added as we both start to walk on the sideway before getting next to an crosswalk, awaiting for the redlight to show up and to let us walk through the street. "Has the city changed in three years ?"
"Still the same." I scoffed about it, looking at the redlight. "I really want that someday, I will finally leave this city behind me and not going back." I added, making a little breath as the light goes to green, allowing us to walk on the crosswalk. "The MI6 safehouse we live in for the moment....it's the only good place there."
"Let's hope I will like it." Zasha exclaimed as we arrived on the other sidewalk from the street, next to the parking Park is waiting.
"They're making good coffee, I told you." I joked, making them laugh about it again before we had our feets on the parking and I could see Park standing next to the car, her door opened. "Park." I waved at her.
"Yirina." She said, staying at her position, smiling at me and also waving at me.
"I wasn't too long, right ?" She nodded to me as we were approaching the car, Zasha behind me and I could see that they were a little bit stressed to meet someone they didn't know. "Oh, Zasha, she's Helen Park, my partner." I looked at them as the two shook hands, winking at Park in an lovely way. It was like an slow and discreet way to show Zasha that me & Park is something.
"You must be the Zasha Smirnov that Yirina talked a lot about." Park presumed as the two finished to shake hands.
"Uhm....yes....miss Park..." They breathed, losing a little bit of their voice along the way. "It's a pleasure to meet you too."
"Oh, you can call me just Park." She expressed, smiling at them, to reassure them of her good intentions. "I think that's my turn to meet your friends, Yirina." She told me, referring that now, she was the one to meet my friends like I met hers more than a week ago.
"My friends....are your friends." I affirmed to her as she was passing her hand through the hair that was on her face before I start to walk behind the car with Zasha, opening the trunk for them. "So, where are we going now ?" I asked.
"I need to grab something at Century House and then, on our way to get to West-Berlin." She responded, moving to look at us as I was grabbing Zasha's bag to put it inside. "We should be arriving in the evening...maybe the beginning of the night." She then looked around us. "MI5 is going to call off the surveillance they put on Zasha."
"MI5 was watching me ?" Zasha raised an eyebrow at me, looking confused.
"Well, you didn't give your transmission in the usual way and with that, they were going to move to arrest 'Remi Baker'." I replied, making an silent laugh about it as it allowed me to see them again and to discover it was them behind that mysterious source. "By the way, thanks you for celebrating my birthday."Â I then closed the trunk, looking at Zasha with an big smile, making an little tap on their shoulder.
"It was some sort of an tribute to you in case you were still alive." They explained as they moved to open the backdoor behind me.
"And finding you again....let's say it's like an big birthday present." I exclaimed as we got ourselves installed in our respectives seats : Park driving and me & Zasha at the passenger seats. "And to say that the day isn't finished." I whispered, looking at Park, smirking, causing her to laugh silently.
"You're right." She admitted before putting her seatbelt on. "Let's get going then." She started the car's engine and we were on our way back to Century House with Zasha.
It wasn't so far, like at almost 800 meters between Zasha's apartment in London and the MI6 headquarters in Century House and for that, we only had 2 minutes of driving to get at our destination. We arrived in the same underground parking like always but this time, Park decided to go alone at her office to retrieve what she needed and we didn't objected about it as she leave us alone, me & Zasha in the car, waiting for her to come back. I wasn't nervous anymore as I know that behind me, it was Zasha.
"Zed ?" I started after I could see Park in the elevator as its doors closed, talking in a low voice that they could hear.
"Yes ?" They said, having their attention, seeing them from the mirror.
"You remember that I told you that I did lose my memories for an while and I'm recovering them back ?" I asked and I saw them nodding through the mirror. "All of this happened because of an man called Russell Adler." I added.
"Wait." They redressed themselves to get their arms posed on my & Park's seats. "You said Russell Adler, right ?" At hearing them, I looked at them fully, surprised that they know that name.
"You know him ?" I questioned them, giving them an confused look.
"Yeah, an CIA agent that has been tracking Perseus since 1968 as far I can remember." They responded and by that, I was sort of jaw-dropped. "We saw his name in some documents that we decrypted at the end of the year 1978." They added with me, raising an eyebrow.
"Seriously ?" I whispered, not believing that I have discovered with Zasha, Adler's existence. "And....and did I have an opinion on him ?"
"To be honest, you were very curious and disgusted by the man by what he did." They continued, unwillingly describing my whole opinion on Russell Adler himself. "We did saw him in some operations that we had in the USSR back in our old Perseus days." My eyes went wide at hearing this.....did Adler knew me before all of this shit that happened to me ? "To maybe reassure you, he never saw us from upclose." I was now more looking relieved but still curious about if Adler knew about me.
"You may have learned that Stitch got his hands on him recently." I exclaimed, looking at them, having my arms on the seat. "And I'm trying to save the man who fucked my life....well, in fact, not for us for the moment."
"Really ?" They asked and honestly, I couldn't know if they were saying it on Adler's capture, the fact that we were trying to save him and the fact that we weren't going to work on him. "You really have to save the guy who put you in an come ?" It was about saving Adler......
"Honestly, I would have let him like that....." I started, biting my lips and looking away from them. "But the only positive thing I can say about him is that if we don't have him, we all can start to speak fully russian." I added, sounding low about talking positively of Adler. "Even if we're both ex-Perseus, we can't actually fight alone."
"Yeah, I see what you mean." Zasha said, having their left hand on their chin, in an thinking mood "He's like the only man that can bring the fight to Perseus."
"Can say that." I breathed, joining my hands together and looking outside at the elevator. "For the moment, I'm working with Park to bring down Harry Stone."
"The ex-SAS soldier..." Zasha whispered. "You know, I have my eyes on him since some times." They added, revealing unintentionally to me that it was thanks to Zasha that we got the first mission on that warehouse that Stone had on West-Berlin. "I know that he was working with Perseus since a very long time and that the MI6 put her focus back on him."
"Yes, we're tracking him down and his arms trafficking since almost 2 weeks." I told them, looking at the mirror again before taking an deep breath, thinking od something important. "Listen...." I started, turning around to face Zasha. "Park has an long story....an very complicated one with Stone, he was her friend before and since she discovered the truth, Park is hating him so much." I bit the left part of my lips as I redressed myself, still facing Zasha. "There's things that you shouldn't talk with her.....only me can do it."
"I think I can't know ?" I shook my head to them.
"No and it's better, trust me." I affirmed to them as I finally looked in front of me again. "There's only one thing I can tell you." I started to smile, willing to talk about what I was thinking. "Me & Park, we're together in an romantic way." I could see them throught the mirror with wide eyes as I was keeping an smile on my way
"No way !" They peaked their head between the two seats, still with their wide eyes, looking at me. "You're telling me that you're in love."
"Why not ? Park is someone I can count on my life." I affirmed, proud of it as I saw the elevator's door getting opened, revealing Park with an little box in her hands. "She's the best I have met in my life." I added before Park arrived at her door, opening it.
"Wasn't too long ?" She asked as she handed me the box that I put behind my seat.
"Not at all." I replied, having finished as she was getting herself installed back on her seat before I decided to make a move, kissing her right on the left cheek and once I was done, I could see the blushing on her face and Zasha looking surprised.
"Been cheeky, are you, Yiri ?" She looked at me with big lovely eyes before she looked at Zasha, watching the whole scene. "Oh....you....well, I think she told you."
"No, Zed figured it out by themselves." I said, giving an wink to Zasha, smiling, knowing that now, everybody in the car know.
"Well...." Park started to said, still blushing from my little kiss. "Time for us to go to West-Berlin." She started the car engine and before driving away, she put her eyes on Zasha. "You're ready, Zed ?" She asked and they nodded in approval before we drove off the place.
Frankly, I didn't expect that the feeling of having Park meeting Zasha was going to go very well and for me, it was so much good to see that happening : it was like my old world getting mixed with her own world and now, I was wondering about how it will happen in the future with Zasha in the team and how Garrett & Greta will see Zasha...hopefully good, I prefer. We left Century House to join the airport, taking an plane and going back to West-Berlin.
During the flight that lasted approximatively two hours, we didn't talk too much except about ourselves with Park learning more about my friendship with Zasha, talking about the memories I got back in my head and having their point of view on the spoken events as Park wasn't so willing to talk too much about herself, something I told Zasha about. It went quite well and it was very friendly with of course, me & Park exchanging lovely gazes to each other.
We arrived at West-Berlin in the evening, still at the Tempelhof Airport and each time I was going out of an plane in that place, I was like reseeing myself getting breathless during Park's rescue and we quickly got away from the airport with me, finally driving thanks to Park to the safehouse....because I know the path very well for that. We got there, at the safehouse 20 minutes after we stepped on the Berlinese soil.
"Zed, welcome to West-Berlin !" I exclaimed as I was walking with Zasha, their bag in their hands while Park was awaiting for us at the door. "It's time for us to get to work." I added as we arrived near Park who opened the front door.
"Garrett, Greta, we're here." Park almost said loudly as we entered the safehouse before we got into the living room. "Here you are !" She added as we were seeing Garrett & Greta having ordered some 'Burger Town' for themselves but also for us.
"Oh, Park, didn't hear you." Garrett scoffed about not having hear us, getting up from his couch to greet us. "Uhm....who are they ?" They asked, curious, seeing Zasha staying next to me.
"Garrett, they are my friend : Zasha Smirnov." I replied as Zasha was trembling, offering their hand to him. "They are going to work with us for the future." I added before the two finally shook hands, still seeing Zasha a bit nervous.
"Oh, well, the friends of my friends are my friends." He proclaimed, retaking the same words Garcia told me two days ago in Cuba, causing also Zasha to smile a little from it.
"It's a pleasure, sir !" Zasha breathed as I took their bags in my hands to put it at the place where we were putting ours before I could see Greta moving from her couch to walk to Zasha to shook hands as well.
"Hi, I'm Greta Keller, BND." Greta presented herself to Zasha, shaking hands with them.
"You can call me Garrett by the way and you can call her Greta." Garrett intervened with an smile, already seeing Zasha as an friend and frankly, it was good to see Zasha been accepted by Park's friends.
"Ok then." Zasha whispered to them before we all got installed in the couchs.
"So, now that you have returned, what's the next move ?" Greta asked to the three of us but mainly me & Park.
"Well....we're going to wait one more day until we can go to Moscow to try to talk with Portnova herself." I responded, looking at Zasha when I mentioned Portnova's name, seeing them having their eyes, sort of ashamed. "Unless we got something that will delay our travel here."
"About that..." Zasha started, resisting the urge to got up already from their seats. "I have something for us : have you heard of Sonya Kuzmin, an relative to Stitch ?" They asked to us and hearing that name, my eyes went wide and Zasha know that very well.
"Wait, they're in town ?" They nodded to me.
"Apparently, they are here to work with some Perseus contacts and maybe also Stone ones." They replied, crossing their arms as they started to look at the dashboard. "They're maybe an person of interest for us."
"So you think that we need to capture them before we got to Moscow ?" Garrett suggested and Zasha nodded slowly. "Mmhm, you got an point then, Zasha." He added with an smile.
"But it's kinda late to get ourselves to work...." Greta looked at her watch before putting her eyes back to us "Maybe we can start tomorrow, if you all want." We all nodded to her, apparently just wanting to have some rest now before we finally start to eat.
Park contacted them before she came back from her office, realizing why Garrett & Greta have bought more food than ever for them. Of course, the two didn't forget my birthday and decided to wish me happy birthday by surprise as I was drinking the soda they took for me, almost choking myself with it and I thanked them....not for almost having killed me with that of course.....
An hour passed and we were finished to eat where Zasha could finally verify my claim about the fact that the MI6 is having an lot of coffee in that safehouse and also that Park was making the best coffee and to say, Zasha was loving it by an lot. Garrett & Greta were the first one to go to sleep, having been trying to find any intels on Stone's operations in West-Berlin all day while us....well, we got an birthday to celebrate with Park and I found Zasha again.
"Aw shit..." Zasha yawned, putting their hands in front of their mouth as they were sit on the couch where Garrett & Greta were before while me & Park were together in our cocuh. "It has been an long day." They affirmed as they got up, stretching their arms.
"You're surely want to have some sleep, Zasha." Park exclaimed.
"Yeah, I might need that." They looked at us with an smile "Well, I guess that you two might need some private times together." They said, smirking.
"Oh....you're right." I told them with an big smile on my face, looking at Park, putting my hands on her lap "We have something that we couldn't finish today." I added, winking at Park again.
"If you wonder, there's an empty bedroom for you next to Greta's one just at the right of the top stairs." Park explained to Zasha as we're both got up from our couch.
"Thanks." Zasha smiled before they started to walk with their bag out of the living room. "Good night, Park.....good night, Yirina."
"Good night, Zasha !" Me & Park said in unison before they were out of the room, starting to get up the stairs.
"So...." Park started, getting her hand below my shirt and getting closer to me, having her right arm around my waist. "Where are we taking this ?" She asked me, referring to continue our little move that we start in her office
"Uhm...what if we took it in the car ?" I proposed to her, wanting to be alone and not to disturb the others with maybe our groans and our cries.
"Oh, follow me then !" She breathed, taking my hand as she start to walk away from the room with me as well, taking the car keys with her before we left the house to get to the car. We got inside, installing ourselves in the backseats and then, at the second we got in, that we jumped in each other for an kiss. "Yiri !" Park whispered to me as we broke the kiss to take some air.
"Who's the one cheeky one ?" I questioned her in a seducing tone as I passed my hand through her hair, having my arm around her.
"Since it's your birthday, I'm the one cheeky !" She teased, blushing as she got herself on her back, getting on top. We couldn't stop in our moves as we continued to kiss each other, slowly removing each button of her shirt until we stopped, looking at each other.....
"Mmhm, it's time for you to have your big present that you highly deserve, Yiri !"

"Express the joy of the situation and the joy to play this music, to sing this music, itâs really fantastic.â (St. Cecilia. Patron saint of musicians).
"While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, Jesus said, âAll that you see hereâthe days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.â
Then they asked him, âTeacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?â
Jesus answered, âSee that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, âI am he,â and âThe time has come.â Do not follow them!
"When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.â
"Then he said to them, âNation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.â (Luke 21: 5 - 11).
Tuesday 22nd November 2022 of the 34th Week in Ordinary Time is the feast of St Cecilia. Italian. (+ 3rd century). Virgin and Martyr. Cecilia came from a noble Roman family. She was betrothed to Valerian, a noble Roman gentleman. Cecilia convinced Valerian to respect her perpetual vow of chastity. She also led Valerian to embrace Christ and Christianity. Valerian gave his life to Christ as a martyr. St Cecilia was tortured and left to die slowly. St Cecilia is the patron saint of music and musicians. Her name is mentioned in the Roman Canon. Music plays a central role in the worship and liturgy of the Church. St Augustine says that to sing is to pray twice. Let us thank God for the gift of music.
"While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, Jesus said, âAll that you see hereâthe days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.â
From time to time, I walk through the downtown on my way to the noon Mass. There are always many shiny glass and steel constructions going up and up. I frequently stop at the sidewalk to stretch my neck and gaze at the towering skyscrapers. I remember Christ's warning in today's Gospel. âAll that you see hereâthe days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.â
Can this prophecy of Jesus be applied to our era? Rome was destroyed. Berlin was leveled to the ground. Moscow was burnt down by Napoleon. Russia is destroying Ukraine one city at a time. Of course the prophecy in the Gospel of today is specific to Jerusalem. Jerusalem met its nemesis in 70 AD when Emperor Vespatian and his son Titus executed God's judgment on Jerusalem.
What is the meaning of the prophecy for us today?
Don't take too seriously what is going on in this nation and the world today. Watch rather the signs of the End Times. The End is near. Watch and pray that you may not succumb to vile temptations.

Dust Tomorrow will be late
I've been a bit distracted this week, as many have. And I'm going to do what I do best and word vomit the reason why here- because I fuckin can. And because I have stood on Alaskan ground and looked at Russian ground (Just not from the Sarah Palin's home in Wasilla, Alaska...) so I've got some fuckin feelings.
You see, I grew up in Alaska. Part of growing up in Alaska is having friends from all over the world- not because of the glorious power of the internet (though the internet has certainly done wonders to expand our global social networks) but because Alaska was and continues to be where many people from many places settle. We have a rich Eastern Asian community. There are vibrant communities of Pacific Islanders.
And there is a long history with Eastern Europeans. With RussiaGrowing up in Alaska means knowing that Russia is only 55 miles away at its closest point. Growing up in Alaska means knowing that the closest not Alaska places (Including other states...) are Canada (we share a boarder) and Russia. You *can* swim to Russia across the Bering straight. See below where Russia and Alaska are reaching out for each other- no not that chain of islands that make up Alaska's beard though if I remember right the last like four of those are Russian but no one lives on most of those especially the ones off in the ocean- they're tiny rocks that get battered by storms so we don't count those. Also, not all of Alaska is pictured- there's a whole bottom handle that goes off to the lower right but some of Canada made it into the shot- Hi Canada!
Speaking of Russia being so close to Alaska you can see it- 160ish years ago, Russia actually OWNED Alaska. They sold it to America. The man spearheading this sale was William Seward (He even has a little town in Alaska named after him!) who got endless crap. The deal was known as Seward's Folly and Alaska was known as Seward's Icebox- many people thought the USA just wasted a bunch of money on useless land- it's arctic, the weather kinda sucks most of the year and the top third of the state almost never thaws but is technically a desert because it gets so little snow too.
There was the gold rush (and no lie, we're still mining gold. This bitch has been there, done that) and they found oil. YAY oil.
A lot of generational Alaskans are descended from Russians. My bio mom's ex husband is Russian- from a town like 350ish miles from that small stretch of the Bering Sea that separates us from them, actually. For scale, it is 364 miles from Anchorage, Alaska where I grew up to Fairbanks, Alaska where my daughter was born. This is not even half the height of the state of Alaska.
His mother is in Russia still. His father was Ukrainian. His father's family is in Ukraine now, still. Well, most of them, some have left the country. Others are fighting.
I have friends who are Russian and their families are still in Russia. I have friends in Russia- three of which have been arrested for protesting this week. The ruble has gone from being worth around $18USD to being worth less than a penny. I worry about how my friends will afford food and goods in the long term as sanctions batter their county.
I have friends who are Ukrainian and whom still have family in Ukraine. I have friends in Ukraine now- one of which hasn't touched base with anyone in almost 48 hours. I have friends who are fighting, who's family has members fighting.
Many Alaskans are like me and have connections to one or both countries either directly or through friends.
Never mind the fact that the USA maintains multiple military bases in Alaska and if *we (usa)* piss off the dictator, it's well understood that there will be problems. In Anchorage, the largest city, there is a joint Air force and Army base. North of the second largest city is the other Airforce base.
It's lowkey known that these are staffed and manned pretty much as punishment for people that piss their bosses off (They get paid for being "abroad" without any of the cool travel- many don't like it lol) their purpose is to be easy striking distance to Russia and less but still easy striking distance to North Korea.
So not only am I worried about my friends and my sorta family in both Russia and Ukraine, my bio mother lives in Anchorage and my adoptive mother lives in Fairbanks. If the USA gets *involved* in this (which many want them to do- it's probably the first time in a long time there's been *conflict* and we haven't stuck our military into it), there is a solid risk that Russia will make an example out of Alaska. Oh and we're massive oil producers so Russia could also bomb the North Slope or if they wanted to be a little more chill, just bomb a segment of the TransAlaska Pipeline (that long ass tube that goes from the tippity top of Alaska to the bottom and brings oil down)
It's very unlikely that Russia will strike Alaska unless things deteriorate and NATO nations receive any aggression- forcing this to become a world war.
But we're very much aware. We are scared for our international friends and family.

7, 8, 11, 17, 24, 29, 32, 39, 40 for 'talk about' if you don't mind and that's not too much
7:Â Talk about your biggest insecurity.
Hahaha where do I start. Well, considering that the finals are coming, I guess naming my intelligence would be about time. Iâm an A-student, and many people actually consider me really smart, but tbh I donât feel that way and Iâm really insecure about how Iâm going to pass my finals (which is, like, a HUGE deal in Russia, far bigger than you can imagine). I used to be pretty certain of my abilities, but facing the exams Iâm not. So I really just want it to be over already.
8:Â Talk about the thing you are most proud of.
That is probably going to sound incredibly stupid but⊠The first thing to come to my mind was the impact I had on the Russian Haikyuu!! fandom. Iâm kind of its administrator, cause the majority of the fandom hangs out in one place, which is really convenient, and in 2.5 years that I have been working with them Iâve done quite many things for them and, welp, earned their love, you could even say that. I try my best to help them purchase official goods from time to time to support the creators, too, and sometimes buy some on my own money to give as presents for quizzes and stuff like that. And Russian HQ fans are these kind of people whom you want to give to, who make you actually feel appreciated, which is incredibly nice. We even have meet-ups when I go to other cities in Russia! So guwaah itâs incredibly cool.
11:Â Talk about the best dream youâve ever had.
OKAY that is also a difficult one, I had a few dreams that Iâve really enjoyed, but one sprung to my mind instantly, so letâs just roll with it. The dream was kinda short, I donât even remember that much, but basically Hinata was sick at first, and I think Kageyama was worried about him, and then, for some unknown reason, Hinata was stabbed, twice (once in the abdomen, and once in his back), and yup he was dying. It was snowing when I woke up, and I remember feeling so⊠immensely good? As if I have the healthiest body, positive thoughts. My choushi was just really good after that dream.Â
Yes, angst is my life force.
Last night I dreamt of sad and desperate Kageyama (thanks go to @nimbus-cloud for her recent Haisute reports), and that felt really good too (hmm, it was actually also winter in my dream. Interesting. Oh, and also I really enjoyed the one where Kimura Tatsunari (stage play Kageyama) was for some reason in my apartment lol. I spoke Japanese, and I was actually amazed just how decent I acted as a fan when I woke up lol.
17: Talk about someone you want to be friends with.
Oh. To be honest, thereâs one person that I guess Iâm friends with, but we havenât been in touch properly for so long that itâs really frustrating, and I donât know what to think. Theyâre incredible, gorgeous, funny, and just the epitome of sunshine, in anyoneâs life, and we used to chat and Skype lots, even met a few times (weâre from different countries of course). Itâs not the same now, and it makes me feel really miserable sometimes.
24: Talk about something someone told you that meant a lot.
I donât think I can remember any incredibly meaningful things that have changed my life somehow, but I can tell you that Furudate Haruichi told me many important things in Haikyuu!!. It changed my outlook in a way, changed my hobbies, but mostly my attitude (cue Oikawa Tooru). That is something I am really grateful for.
29: Talk about what turns you on.
Angst, hurt/comfort, fictional injuries, well-written character death, amazing soundtracks, cute girls, some cute boys (in that particular order).
32: Talk about a place you remember from your childhood.
I still live where I spent my childhood, unfortunately, and as for a place⊠You know, I just remembered a cave in my childrenâs garden. We had this cave in the big room, which a bridge and some other shit, and there were cushions inside, it was pretty dark and kinda cool, especially for a 4-year-old me. And what I donât actually remember, but my friend apparently does, is that I used to sit in that cave with a few other children and read out loud for them, cause I was the earliest to learn how to lol.
39:Â Talk about things you wish youâd known earlier.
That starting your exam preparations in advance actually helps a lot. That Haikyuu!! existed. That I couldâve started working earlier a freelance translator. That some people whom you pour your soul into might just disappear.
40: Talk about the end of something in your life. Â
School would be the obvious answer. Itâs ending pretty soon, and Iâm mostly happy with that, I really want to move on. Also I canât wait for the period of my life when Iâm still living with my parents to end, cause I seriously need a breather. Like, a few years long breather. The end I canât even clearly imagine is the end of Haikyuu!!, cause just n o. As much as I understand that a well timed ending is necessary, and I do want it to happen, I just canât imagine it, haha.
Thank you very much for your questions, it was lots of fun!

Inside Your Vehicle
When playing the game, with any vehicle, if you keep roaming through your camera positions , before you get to the one where it shows you no part of the car, press pause, and you will be able to see inside your vehicle. Itâs tricky but keep trying , you will get it!!

2 Secret Tokens In North America
Token 1: Look on the map of North America in the instructions. See the big lake? If you do, then follow the lake all the way down (In your car) until a waterfall. The token is just a little under the top of the waterfall (In the air, not the water.) All you need to do is fall off the fall (A little on the left side) and you should get it. Make sure to fall with some speed. Now, if you still don't understand me, then here is another way to find it. From the start (In Joyridin') continue down the cliff you start out on toward town. Keep on going untill you see a river, follow the river down to an intersection in the road with a house almost in it. Go under the bridge near the intersection and stay in the river. Go toward where you came untill a waterfall is in sight. Go to the left of the fall over the hill on a path and you should be at the top part of the falls. Then follow the first instructions to get it.Token 2: Follow the 2nd instructions to token 1. But at the road intersection instead of going under the bridge go over the hill behind the house that is near the intersection. You should be on a rail road track. Follow the tracks until you see a pretty steep hill on the left and right side. Then go up the right hill, and try to get up it. When you do stay on the top and look around. If you see a place where you can go lower, but still high up, go on it. A token is waiting!!
Getting âGreatâ Ratings
While there is no easy way to get a âgreatâ rating on a mission, here are some tips:
1. Concentrate more on taking care of your cargo than getting the mission done fast. Money matters more than time.2. Try different vehicles if you get stuck. You never know what will work.3. Don't always take the obvious path. Do what you have to to avoid the cops. (Remember, time is not of utmost importance.)4. Some missions, however, require a fast time. (Destroying enemy vehicles, etc.) The Granadier is probably the best destroyer.5. If all else fails, use the infinite countermeasures code. It makes things much easier.6. Be persistent. I had to try some missions 20+ times before I got a "great" rating. Good luck!
Second Token In Russian Winter
Ride west (to the left on the map) until you find the burned out village with smoking craters. A secret token is in one of them.
First Secret Token In Russia
Drive south until you reach the large body of water. A token sits on the biggest island, near the eastern part.
Second Secret Token In Russia
Find the village on the side of the hill. Drive down the hill to the river. The token is above the river, accessible by jumping off one of the riverbanks.
Second Secret Token In E. Europe
Drive northwest until you come tho the glacier. The token is around the edge of the glacier; somewhere in midair. You have to catch air off of a hill to nab it. (Use the ATV and speed boost.)
Second Secret Token In Vietnam
Drive up the river until you come to a small log bridge surrounded by rocks and weeds. The token is behind one of the rocks.
First Secret Token In N. America
