Well the real question we should be asking now is, how would Sonic handle Nine trying to kill Tails? Tails trying to kill Tails. Sonic would kill to protect Tails but the person who is trying to harm Tails is also Tails(kinda)

Sonic would try to subdue him as non-violently as possible, I think. Try to restrain him, distract him from his objective. He's not going to let him hurt Tails, but at the same time, I don't think he could bring himself to physically harm Nine either. He likes Nine. He might not like how Nine's behaving, but it's not enough to make him stop caring about him. He's still a part of his best friend and little brother, the kid he practically raised, absolutely nothing could shake that.

Tails also wouldn't want to hurt Nine, and wouldn't want Sonic to hurt him either because he knows how much that would hurt his big brother. Nine might think Tails is nothing like him, but Tails can see himself in Nine. He knows where he came from. All the angry and hurt parts of himself that are buried deep inside him are staring him in the face when he looks at him, and it's a part of him he's probably never wanted to look at too closely.

Though that's just part of my theory that the shatterspace versions of them are based on certain traits that have been slightly warped because they're fractured pieces of the whole. Too much of Tails's feral childhood is in Mangey, Sails is directionless without a captain to give his life purpose, and Nine is all his bitterness and resentment and desperate devotion to one person. The one person who cared.

And Tails has been where Nine is, not wanting to share his big brother or become less important in Sonic's eyes. And I think Sonic recognizes that, too. I felt it when watching the third batch of episodes, but I feel like Sonic was treating the situation like his little brother was just having a really big tantrum. A cry for attention dialed up to 100.

Except Nine never learned how to deal with hurt feelings. Tails learned early on that just because Sonic hurt his feelings, it doesn't mean he doesn't still love him. Nine never learned that, and he's old enough and capable enough to lash out in ways that cause massive amounts of damage and put people in danger of actually being killed.

But it's still a tantrum. He's still a kid whose feelings were hurt. And he wants them all to hurt just like him.

I don't even think Sonic would be able to bring himself to break the metal tails to make him less of a threat. They're Nine's inventions.

Tails might try to get close enough to disable them himself, as long as Nine doesn't have any other weapons on him. But even so, Tails would be able to avoid any shots fired his way and Sonic would do his best to shield Tails and give him openings, but even if somehow Nine physically injured Tails... Sonic might grab him and intend to strike him down, but... even spitting and snarling, that's still his little brother's face. Nine isn't Tails, but he's a part of him. Even if he's the worst part of him, it doesn't make him less worthy of love.

This is the direction I want to go for my Prime AU fic, by the way, but it also felt relevant to this scenario because I really don't think Sonic would be the one to stop him. I think it has to be Tails.

Nine shook his head, eyes squeezed shut. “He's gonna leave me for you.” Tails sighed, the guilt crawling up his throat. “If you asked… he'd try and find a way—” “That's not what I want. I don't want to share! I want to be enough. Not just another reminder of—of—!” “I know.” Tails smiled tearfully as angry tears spilled down his alter's cheeks. “I don't want to share him with you either.” Nine blinked. “What?” “I'm not perfect, Nine,” Tails chuckled weakly. “Whatever picture Sonic's painted of me is far from reality. But if I asked him, I know he'd do the same for you.” His smile sharpened. “And that really bites when you want to be special.”

tfw when you write an entire novel with two protagonists that spent the entire plot getting closer to each other, becoming best friends and eventually both of them deciding they would rather die than allow the other to not live a long, fulfilling life, their friendship carrying most of the emotional weight of the entire plot and the emotional climax being one of them sacrificing his life so the other can live and then the other crossing literal universes to find him, a tearful smile in his face as he confesses how much he missed him. which is the scene you wanted to write and show the most because, again, this is the pay off to the slowburn you've been writing in the entire novel and what everything has been building up to since the very first chapter. and then you end the novel by having them share a smile, finally confident they'll be able to have a happy future.

but you also just gotta have one of them marry offscreen because everyone knows you can't be happy if you're not in a het marriage with kids lmao it's whatever it's okay i'm fiNE-

i just saw perfect days and i don't want a smartphone anymore. like, i genuinely don't want this thing anymore. i'm starting to think about all the times i've missed something beautiful existing in front of me because i felt the need to look down at my screen. how much time have i wasted getting quick hits of dopamine instead of getting true enjoyment from something as simple as the sunshine rippling through the trees? i'm wondering when my appreciation for real beauty met its death by way of an addiction to artificial blue light. there's no surprises or moments of amazement when you're constantly attached to the interwebs.

I've reached season 5 on my CSI rewatch and I'm a few episodes past "Swap Meet", where a woman is murdered after attending a swing party with other couples from the neighbourhood. Near the end of the episode there's a moment that made me jump from my seat:

(Grissom walks up to Sara and takes the seat next to her. He's holding two cups. He hands her a cup of tea.)

[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - BRASS' OFFICE]

Erin Brady: Everybody fantasizes about other people. (She glances at Grissom.)

Even you, Mr. Grissom. A neighbor, a friend ... girl at the office.

[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - HALLWAY]

(The door opens. Paul Brady walks out of the hallway. Erin Brady walks out into the hallway. Sara is sitting in the hallway chair watching them. She watches as they meet and kiss.)

(Grissom walks up to Sara and takes the seat next to her. He's holding two culps. He hands her a cup of tea.)

Right after Erin ends her sentence with 'girl at the office', the first time Sara and Grissom meet again, he brings her tea. This might be an innocent interaction but to me it seemed like a nod to this relationship they have where both are into each other, know about the other's feelings, but can't/won't do anything about it (although Sara has kind of given Grissom an ultimatum). I don't know if it was intentional - I'm guessing it is, because I picked it up immediately. I might or might not have squealed in delight.
