#i don’t want to be mean

I always wondered why Katniss factored marriage and children into the equation when it came to reciprocating Peeta’s feelings for her. It’s a rather large leap, especially when Peeta himself never expresses wanting children at any point in the story. He uses children as a tool to persuade Katniss and the Capital to save her life, but the only time we see him express any desire/feelings of having one of his own is when he’s crying after the baby bomb. But we never hear his real thoughts.

But you wanna know who does express wanting children? Gale.

It’s one of the first thing he mentions in chapter one. And it pisses her off so much.

(I also want to add that Gale reframes/establishes the dynamic of Katniss and him caring for their siblings from something that is sibling-sibling to parent-sibling. And he is not wrong. Katniss doesn’t refute him. Both Katniss and Gale are surrogate parents to their siblings. Which is also why Katniss love and affection of Prim, is not just sisterly. I’ve seen people say Katniss is only sisterly to Prim- but she’s not. She’s parentified their relationship to the point she subconsciously see Prim as her child, which makes this a tragedy because she’ll loose her first child no matter what she does by the end of the story.)

But Gale’s phrasing here elevates himself as a potential suitor to Katniss by placing them both as the parental roles to these children. (Which irritates her a lot ). Which is why she brings the topic up with her relationship with Peeta. Because she’s subconsciously aware of Gale’s efforts and knows it will be a point of contention between them. It hangs over her head in a way.

With Gale, children are extra mouths to feed. (But Gale will do fine. He can work. He can hunt.) It’s all framed with calculated survival in mind. But it’s also not something she had planned in the future at any point.

But Peeta’s children? Oh they deserve to be born because Peeta deserves to be a father. He would be such a good father. They deserve to exist in a world where they can be safe and happy. (Even if it’s not with her.)

This is also why I think she subconsciously sees Peeta’s baby as her own. And I don’t think of it as a cruel/heartless thing, it’s just you’d be more protective of your own child compared to someone else’s. Katniss sees Gale as a reliable person who’s equipped to look after a kid. She doesn’t express the same kind of maternal instinct/yearning for the Baby Hawthrone’s safety as she does with the idea of Baby Mellark, because she doesn’t think of Gale’s child as her own. She never hopes for a better future for them, but she does with Peeta because he and that baby gives her hope. And she loves him that much.

I’ve still been getting drawing requests even when I asked them to stop in this post

Now, most of them say things like ‘I know you’re not taking requests but-‘ or ‘you don’t have to do this but-‘

And I appreciate that you guys aren’t blatantly ignoring my request to stop. I really do appreciate it. But even saying something like ‘you don’t have to do it’ makes me feel like I have to.

And then there’s a few (or maybe just one idk they’re anonymous) that are just asking me to do requests. I don’t know if you just haven’t seen the post or what, but please… Stop.

I’ve been thinking of turning off asks entirely. And I don’t want to do that because I love seeing headcannons and art of different people’s characters (or mine). I might at least turn off anonymous for a while cuz that’s what the majority of the requests are coming from. I don’t want to have to do that… I like giving you guys the option… But idk, I might have to.

See, even if I’m not doing requests at the moment, getting asks about them just adds on to the stress of not doing them, if that makes any sense. Not only that, but I’ve got my own family issues that I don’t nor do I want to talk about on here and I’ll be starting a new job soon ON TOP of just not having a lot of time to drawings at all.

So just please… Please… Stop with the requests. I will try to get to the requests I can at some point. I don’t know when that will be, but it probably won’t happen any time soon.

A few years ago, I started a student organization. I recruited a couple officers, but then interest died off a bit. This year, after meeting with the officers and coming up with a plan, I was the only one who did any of my work. Fine, these things happen. I decided to continue working on it as much as I felt up to it. I emailed everyone today about a project I’ve been working on and need help with, and someone I’ve never spoken to emailed me back saying she and an officer have some ideas of their own and they would like to meet with me but I haven’t been responding. This is interesting because:

- I have no emails from them. I searched my inbox to make sure I hadn’t missed anything.

- I have never met this person before.

- this person is not an officer

The email went on to tell me about what “makes a student group most successful,” and essentially accuses me of purposefully ignoring them and not contributing enough to the group. I’m feeling incredibly pissed off about this. The fucking audacity to lecture me on working hard and having a team when I have done the most work and been the most communicative.

I did agree to meet with them, but I’m very tempted to tell them this email was out of line.

They have a point though? Part of being a good writer is being concise. You can’t just write massive blobs of text. You’re not Hemingway; you don’t get paid per word. Just like a run-on sentence, you can have a run-on paragraph or a run-on chapter too. You have to know how to properly break things up. This is a basic writing skill.

Also… you’re writing for an audience. If your audience gets bored because you have 4 pages of context between 2 lines of dialogue, you’ve done a bad job. That’s not a controversial thing to say. That’s freshman fucking English.

I think that as a culture we’ve gotten way too comfortable pretending like celebrities are our friends. They’re not. That musician you like who is “so relatable” is not your friend. That actor on your favorite show is not your friend. You don’t know them and some of you need to learn really fast not to take fandom into someone else’s personal life. Learn to appreciate your favorite celebrity’s art while keeping in mind that they’re allowed to exist in this world without performing for you all the time.

Trans guys and transmascs have an especially high rate of self-harm and suicidal ideation, and with certain fearmongering you may have heard around our community by certain groups specifically, that may be much worse right now.
