Rules: Pick an OC you'd like to talk about and answer the questions for them! Then tag ten people, or as many as you can. 'Underdeveloped character I adopted' is fine, too! Absolutely no pressure to play, though

Also, if some of it can't apply to your OCs, just answer what would be the answer-- like if they're in a historical setting, they likely can't watch movies, but what is a movie they'd like?

(Also, most people have many ocs, so feel free to retag people and answer as many times as you get tagged! Or get really wild and just answer for as many ocs as you'd like! :D)

1. What is their favorite movie? hmmm ok I’m picking Daesha! I think The Princess and the Frog would be a beloved of hers, as she’d really connect with Tiana! She’d love Mulan, too. She’d also rly like Legally Blonde!

2. What is their favorite season?

She’s an autumn person, I think! It just has her Vibes! She’d really enjoy watching the leaves change, and her caf cantina’s cozy vibes are even more immaculate in autumn!

3. What do they find annoying?

Men.

Just kidding lol. She would definitely make that joke and not mean it…usually. Homegirl has some Stuff to work through in that area. Anyways, she’s annoyed by anyone who messes up her cantina’s vibe. And everything about Twi’lek stereotypes infuriates her. But when it comes to domestic, everyday annoyances…I think she gets frustrated when people pick apart movies. She’s like “it’s my day off I took off w o r k to enjoy this so LET ME ENJOY IT”

4. How would they like to spend their Christmas or equivalent holiday?

She just celebrated Life Day with her parents for a long time, which was really intimate and enough for her. She and her parents are very close, and they’re super proud of her! Daesha loves welcoming people into her caf cantina, but she’s a bit of an introvert when she’s off work, and she’s quite the workaholic. So she doesn’t make a lot of effort socially, besides the customers who eventually become friends and family to her. One in particular…but that’s another story.

5. Do they play an instrument? If so, what? How good are they at it?

Nah, but Daesha does love listening to music! She’s got one headphone in most of the time and gives the BEST music recommendations!

6. What’s their favorite meal to eat?

Daesha’s breakfast is caf, so that one lol!

7. Do they have a favorite video game or board game?

OOH Daesha would play a lot of board/card games with her parents!! I think she’d love Monopoly lol and the card game Spades! She’s very competitive, but in a fun way. When she was a kid she was more fiery about it lol but she’s usually more chill now. Usually. Unless you get her really worked up. Also she’s secretly a gamer on her off days and story video games make her cry like nothing else, especially Undertale

8. Do they celebrate their birthday?

Her parents make her celebrate lol. and they leaked her birthday to her customers so they all join in and every year they bring decorations as soon as the store opens and hang them everywhere and buy way too much caf as a present for Daesha haha

9. What’s their bedtime routine?

she used to SUCK at self-care, but now she’s got a fire skincare routine lol. she always makes a to-do list for the next day before she goes to bed in her super organized planner! she’s an early riser, so she doesn’t stay up super late—unless it’s the night before an off-day, in which case she g a m e s so hard and then falls into bed. also occasionally she gets stuck in the hypnosis that is Brooklyn Nine-Nine and binges too many episodes. she only once in a blue moon, tho. also yes her favorite character is Rosa, closely followed by Amy

10. What’s an OC (or canon character) they like to spend time around? What do they tend to do together?

She and Hera VIBE. they connect for so many reasons and on so many levels! throughout the Rebellion, they don’t rly get to see each other, but afterwards, they reconnect, and they FaceTime/holocall or whatever about once a week! it’s therapeutic for the both of them, and they very occasionally meet up and Daesha makes her caf and they talk for hours. also Daesha loves Jacen so much she thinks he’s the cutest thing and sometimes when Hera’s out doing General Things and no one in the Ghost Crew is available she drops him off on Keothon and he hangs out with Aunt Day for a while and she lets him help out in the caf cantina! he loves being a mini barista and the customers adore him!

overall i’m just. genuinely so, so happy you liked my take on satoru and love, it’s such a huge part of his character even in canon so i try my best to do it justice!! i feel like satoru would just benefit soooo much from a really sweet, gentle, easygoing love bc like you said he’s just. carrying so much weight on his shoulders, and especially after his love w suguru ended so tragically and was so heavy i just think he’d like something light.

to be totally clear im not a "holds comics/specific runs sacred" kind of person either 😭 i have fun with the young justice show (honestly . was the first thing i saw kon in, and how i immediately fell in love with his character) even if i question the way it handled him and megs characters + relationship (i will not spoiler<3)

i absolutely also gravitate towards characters with anger so when i first saw kon in yja i was enamoured with him and i 100% get loving him as a standalone because i did and still do 😭 yja kon is Why i like kon so much now

i was rly approaching ur tags like u weren't familiar with him so im sorry for that assumption off the bat </3 and i was more focusing on how the design was reflective of writing choices that Influenced the show. i will say that comics kon is also a hot head whos dealing with shit esp in his 90s run (sb94 + yj98) and he is just. in general a fun character to read when hes being a little cocky abt it. so i do recommend reading his early stuff if he interests u :] bc hes a fun little guy whos lives in the head no matter what his iteration is

i want to say sorry if it sounded dismissive of Your little guy also 😭 i slapped the bit abt the show kon on the end bc it felt related to the general writing direction hed been going thru in the 00s (which is to say, being spearheaded by a misogynistic homophobe) LOL but to be so honest i do Like him i just have. thoughts and feelings abt the show that i got before i even read anything kon was in. im honestly on season 4 of it rn <3 i wish u luck on your rewatch

<- im a "has fun with the dcamu and video games and other adaptions of the comics and finds worth in them" kind of person anyhow ^_^ i think the fun of dcs bazillion earths and stuff is that many things abt a character can be true at once and people can find what they like in certain iterations and play frankenstein. i like. genuinely wholeheartedly agree that the comic cynicism is soul crushing lmfao 😭

omg so glad you thought the same about twv!! I just finished and so many different parts of the last episode made me so mad, idk if they're trying for a season 6 (even after saying this is the finale) but I'm not going to listen anymore. if you have recs for similar podcasts i would rly love them

I’m so sorry you had to sit through that finale. And baiting a new show just. Doesn’t do anything for me. There are so many ways TWV fell short and didn’t follow through that there is absolutely no way that I believe another show by the same writers will do any better. So handshake through the screen, Anon; I am sharing and understanding your problem.

As for recommendations, I like horror podcasts, but I usually like cosmic horror and folk horror best—which is a slightly different flavor of horror usually? Also a lot of the horror that I like is in book form. But for podcast recs, You’ve probably heard all of the ones I like, but here are some ones that I did enjoy:

-The Silt Verses: folk horror. Only one season is currently out. You get a lot of religious trauma, evil capitalism, and mythology somewhere in between nielman and Old Gods of Appalachia. A lot of old gods and their religions have been banned by the government. Two disciples of one of these illegal gods, a river god, are traveling the river looking for evidence of their god’s miracles and existence. The god itself, like All of the gods in this world, is horrifying and requires human sacrifice, the two disciples are both serial killers; and the state-sanctioned gods and the police sent after these disciples are Even Worse.

-The Magnus Archives: Cosmic horror/horror tragedy. Everyone and their dog seems to have listened to this but yeah. I’ve listened to it at least 3 times through. Very very good at not answering every possible question but knowing what questions need answering and answering those. Favorite. Also, I enjoy that it is and was always intended to be a horror tragedy, but that one character became So Powerful in personality and beliefs that they changed the way the author wrote the end. And capitalism is evil.

-Old Gods of Appalachia: LOVE this one. Cosmic horror/folk horror anthology. Capitalism is Definitely Evil. Really, really good understanding of the people and culture it draws from—which makes it feel kind of like home. Lots of angry and powerful women, lots of nuance, fantastic environment, Yuri Lowenthal was there?

-Alice Isn’t Dead: Surreal horror/cosmic horror. Creepy Americana. A woman thinks her wife is dead and then starts to see her in the background on the news, and then becomes a truck driver for the company the wife worked for in order to search for her. A complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. Good at knowing which questions to answer. Capitalism is evil. Human beings are hard.

-Hello From the Hallowoods: This show is so /comforting/ despite the horrible things that happen in it that it’s almost strange to call it horror. But it still is. It’s just a very kind horror podcast. This is fantasy horror and cosmic horror. The world changed and began to end when a cosmic horror-type god (an Indescribable) who was then killed, introduced a black rain and black water that killed a lot of life and has altered the rest. The dead rarely stay dead; but they come back changed. There are Monsters in the poisoned world. And a lot of the monsters are just people. A lot of the human people are monsters in disguise. The generation that saw the black rain start is in late middle-age and the children were born into this world. There’s a Huge cast, pretty much every character is queer, pretty much every character is nuanced, and there’s So Much Religious Trauma. Also, capitalism is evil; most of North America (at LEAST) was run by a company whose goal is to have all humans become their ‘customers’ whose bodies are protected while their minds exist in a sort of shared-dream world that was heavily marketed even before the world ended. There’s a huge rotating cast (including undead romance, undead robots, demons trying to defect from Hell, a girl trying to rescue her disappeared girlfriend and her kidnapped-by-capitalism mom, an invisible man, a forest-based commune under attack by evolving frogs, and a sentient car). Everything is narrated by an Extremely Invested and extremely comforting Indescribable whose domain is Watching Everything.

-Welcome to Nightvale. Guys, the show has run longer than it should have. It ran into problems when it started to try to answer some of its many long-running questions that shouldn’t have been answered; and the answers were so much less compelling than the questions. It sort of ossified eventually. BUT. The first several years of this show? Were amazing. This is the Foundation of modern narrative podcasts, and the father of queer podcasts. It’s the reason this medium is so much more diverse than others. This is surreal horror/horror comedy. And the first several years give you an Incredible Environment, occasional real fear, and /The/ Narrator (you don’t GET Jon Sims or Nikigkik or even Doug Eiffel without Cecil Palmer! You just Don’t). I think everyone should listen to this show, at least all of the way through the Strex Corp arc. Capitalism is evil, community is everything.

Honorable Mentions go to:

-I am In Eskew: surreal horror/cosmic horror. Sometimes a person just ends up in this incredibly fucked-up city. This isn’t my favorite kind of horror. But. It was well-written, is a complete story, and it was interesting. It raised some questions that I thought were left too open-ended. But the main character’s arc was told so thoroughly and completely, that I’ll forgive it. The confusing and unfinished vibes are confused and unfinished and bigger-than-the-story like Neverwhere*. If Neverwhere was surreal horror about an environment/city/genius locus that wants to just completely break your mind. Capitalism is still evil.

-Wolf 359: Sci-fi horror/thriller. Starts off as an episodic sci-fi comedy with off notes. Becomes a horror-thriller. Not my favorite brand of horror; some of the plot gets a little convoluted for me; but I did really like the character work. Capitalism is still evil.

*Neverwhere is one of my favorite books ever though. So the vibe isn’t what I didn’t love. It’s just the genre

my sister was talking about wizard ghost book with me, and was like ‘I know there’s like 7 gay tragedies, but the most canon ones, the nice ones, (she was meaning wangxian and songxiao) both have the surviving person in the couple become the caretaker for the other one’s kid. And I really like that’

And she’s right. It’s a parallel I hadn’t noticed. You can’t not pay attention to LWJ raising WWX’s child while he’s dead. But Song Lan doesn’t just take the shattered fragments of his partner’s soul. He’s given (as if it’s the most natural thing to do) the shattered fragments of his partner’s kid’s soul too. And his stated goal is to safeguard both of them, take care of both of them, figure out a way to repair both of them get both of them back. He doesn’t have any promise he’s getting either of them; but he takes them both. He knew A-Qing for like 4 minutes before death, but that’s his kid now too.

I don’t know where I was going with this, I just saw that official art with Song Lan and the shadows of XXC and A-Qing and started typing at light speed

hmm tbh i started engaging with the game when i actually started playing so im. hmm

okay this answer might be a bit longer than u were expecting but i hope it’ll be useful!

the way the game works is you have the rhythm game part, and the stories. each unit has a main story, and then there are events, which come out periodically, one after the other. events can be a key story event (about just one unit, focusing on one character from that unit) or mixed unit (so with multiple characters from different units). you can easily follow the story of one group by reading just their main story and then their key stories, but i think it’s all much more enjoyable when you go in order, bc sometimes they reference past mixed events or smth that has happened in another unit’s key story. there’s also the side stories which just add a couple of scenes to an event and those are indeed locked behind actually having the cards related to the event, but you can always find the side stories online, and honestly i dont read them much (unless they involve my faves uwu).

so imo you don’t need to play into the gacha mechanics or even the rhythm game aspect to enjoy the content, you can download the game and just read the stories! they’re all available (like, you dont need to play to unlock them!) and neatly organized (you can even organize them by unit, characters appearing, when they happened etc.) basically, you can treat the app like a free visual novel and pretend the cards dont exist lol you can even play the rhythm game ignoring the gacha system, bc after readind the first chapter of the main story of a certain unit you get the 2* cards of the respective characters, so then u can make a team and play some songs just for fun

but if u rly dont want to get it (i know some people are against gacha games as a principle!) i guess you can check the schedule of past events on the fanwiki and the then google them one by one to see if u can find them online (i know the official project sekai channel is uploading past events, just know they’re quite late lol and that’s on top of the 1 year delay compared to the jp server). i’d still recommend reading them on the actual game tho, or at least i prefer it! you can press to go forward faster if the auto speed feels slow or pull up the log to read back etc.

either way i’d say find a way to read the stories in order, at least the main story of each unit so you get to know the characters and choose your faves! after that you can totally just read the events related to your favourite characters / units. and then you just follow people who post about prsk / create fan content for it and follow some tags (i follow the tags for my favorite prsk ships on my social media uwu)

prsk is quite popular so there is a LOT of fan content out there, on every major social media platform… which is both a blessing and a curse lmao

Most Disappointing Books of 2022

So the worst books aren’t necessarily the most disappointing – some of those I fully expected to hate! And the most disappointing aren’t necessarily the worst (I have a 4-star read in here lol). But there were some books I was really looking forward to that just. Dropped me in the trust fall.

One of these books has a sexual assault scene, but I would have been sufficiently prepared had I checked the content warnings on storygraph 🙃 Aside from that, there may be some spoilers ahead, so if you’re concerned, tread lightly.

And now – my top 10 most disappointing reads of 2022 ranked (read this past year, not necessarily published in 2022).

10. Kill the Farm Boy (⭐️⭐️) by Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne In the tradition of Monty Python, a rag-tag bunch of unlikely heroes adventure to find (or resurrect?) the kingdom’s Chosen One and break a few curses.

Kicking this list off with one that was also on the least favorites list – mainly because I didn’t have enough “worst books” to round out a list of ten. So generally the same applies here. It’s this low on the list because I didn’t expect too much of it, and really only picked it up because I’m interested in the followup book, but the humor rly did not vibe.

9. Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating (⭐️⭐️⭐️) by Adiba Jaigadar Hani needs to “prove” her bisexuality to her friends and Ishu needs to be popular to win votes for head girl; the two agree to a fake relationship despite not liking each other very much.

This one was upsetting because I was really interested in the intersection of the teens’ identities in this one, but I felt like nothing was every explored fully enough. It’s YA and the girls are on the older end of their teens but the authorial voice bordered on middle grade to me. I also felt like it tried to do too much with their story, piling on an adversary to lovers thing on top of the fake dating, while at the same time trying to honor both girls’ personal journeys. I think this would’ve been better as a contemporary novel centering on one main character with some romance flavor, rather than aiming for a romance outright.

8. Ballad (Books of Faerie Duology) (⭐️⭐️) by Maggie Stiefvater When James’s musical talent attracts the faerie Nuala, he finds himself embroiled in a fae war.

This one should be lower on the list due to how much I did not enjoy but in all fairness I really didn’t expect to. I read the first in the duology the previous year and it didn’t have anything special to offer me, which I was upset about, so let’s consider this as an entry for the whole duology. I always say I want more paranormal focusing on celtic myth and tradition, and I know miss maggie can write a book I like, but this just. Didn’t hit, I guess. It did feel very outdated as well, and I know she was rather young when she wrote it, so I can write this off as a sorta stepping stone in her career, I suppose.

7. In Deeper Waters (⭐️⭐️⭐️) by FT Lukens The prince Tal discovers a prisoner on an enemy ship and sets him free; when Tal is kidnapped to start a war, the ex-prisoner returns the favor.

I feel bad that this is even this high on the list, but it’s simply because I had higher hopes than the others. It was a perfectly good story, with interesting politics and fun world-building. However, I had picked it up primarily for the romance and it really left me wanting in that area (despite the OTT ending – iykyk).

6. Rabbits (⭐️⭐️) by Terry Miles There is a game that blurs virtual reality and reality – and K, who has been obsessed with the game since childhood, finally gets a way in.

Yet again, we’ve reached one that double features on the least favorites list. This one’s higher because I don’t think I would’ve read it if I were more familiar with the source podcast or had read more reviews. I picked it up expecting some reality bending philosophy fodder and instead got a very straightforward – and sexist, at certain angles – narrative. Bored to the extent of disappointment.

5. The Bromance Book Club (⭐️⭐️⭐️) by Lyssa Kay Adams MLB player Gavin’s marriage implodes when he learns his wife has been faking her orgasms; his friends use romance novels to coach him through saving his relationship.

The anticipation may have done me dirty with this one. I saw everyone on booktube raving about this for nearly two years before I got my hands on it and it was so. mediocre. And that was upsetting because the premise is so cute!! But it was so. Painfully. Heterosexual. There was no fun. There was no whimsy. There was the heaviness of a marriage falling apart with children involved despite the easy fix of. talking to each other. Both leads’ character journeys made sense and carried weight and the sex scenes were fine but had I known how bland it was, I probably would’ve given it a skip.

4. American Pop (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) by Snowden Wright This sprawling family saga about a fictional soda empire follows the Forsters and their misfortune through the generations.

This was quite a decent book! But I had expected this to be a new favorite of all time. I had hoped that I would experience the passage of US history through the unique perspective of an ensemble cast with the added flavor of an alternate/fictional history. Specifically, I was hoping for something reminiscent of The Vanishing Half by Britt Bennett (one of my 2021 favorites), which I loved so much not necessarily because of the characters’ and their stories, but because of how I saw America develop throughout their lives. This one said very little about America or industry or the passage of time, and mainly focused on a vague “family curse” and the unique despair and misfortune of each family member. It was a fine book, but not what I was expecting when I picked it up.

3. Cytonic (⭐️⭐️⭐️) by Brandon Sanderson Now stranded on the other side of the galaxy, Spensa makes new friends and learns more about the history of the Delvers.

With the third installment, the series slipped into a pattern that I’m not a fan of. I really enjoyed the first book, and I withheld judgement on the second book, hoping it was a brief diversion from a main plotline, but the third solidified the series’s trajectory. Each book thus far follows the concept of Spensa being thrown into a new group of people/strangers/friends, creating a brief found family that readjusts her worldview, then moving on. The first book made me very invested in the planet and the flight class and I’ve been missing them for the majority of the last two books 😔

2. Tell No Tales (⭐️⭐️) by Sam Maggs and Kendra Wells Anne Bonny has a prophetic dream and urges her crew to face the monsters in their pasts.

I feel bad about sticking this on the list because I think the fault is with my expectations, but I was truly so disappointed by this book. I was expecting a YA pirate adventure with some speculative elements but this is ultimately a middle grade historical fiction, emphasis on the historical. The diversity was nice but felt like way too little too late wrt graphic novels for kids. The plot was excessively formulaic and paint by numbers and it offered me. Nothing, basically. When Anne Bonny and her own crew were right there.

1. That Kind of Guy (⭐️⭐️⭐️) by Talia Hibbert Rae needs a fake date for an author’s convention coming up and turns to her best friend Zach, who’s been recently coming to terms with is demisexuality.

This one comes out on top simply because of how excited I was to read it. I love Talia Hibbert, and I love the previous two books in the series. The first (A Girl Like That) was even my first Talia Hibbert! And on top of this, it’s a fake relationship (favorite trope), with a demisexual main character (personal representation), and an older heroine (#feminism) who’s an author (also favorite trope/personal representation)! This sounded made for me. I started the whole series to get to this book. And then. There was nothing all that special about it. I have read much better demisexual characters. The fake relationship ruse dissolved immediately. The sex was just as detailed and graphic – maybe even more so – than Hibbert’s other books. It was a perfectly good book! That let me down so entirely 😅

so he would get it. i don’t really think he would try to push you out of your comfort zone

lets say you guys met in a csgo lobby lol. sapnap was practicing before a stream, playing with strangers, and you popped up

and you didn’t speak for the first like. five rounds. you were AMAZING with last minute clutches but you never spoke so people just kind of assumed you didn’t have ur mic on

except one round, sapnap lost focus and nearly ruined the round, forgetting to call out his location for a cover

luckily you came in with the clutch and shot the enemy before they could get to sapnap, saving the round

and so while in the lobby, sapnap turns on his mic and just “[user], thanks for saving my ass out there.”

and your voice just comes through, a little clipped and very shy, “no problem,” before your mic is muted again

sapnap ends up saving ur gamer tag and inviting you whenever he needs someone to play with or fill a lobby

this turns into playing every day, and you guys become rlly good friends thru the screen. you both keep to yourselves for the most part, a strict csgo relationship if you will

and then sapnap is like. i rlly like them. i want to be their bestie.

so he asks if you want to play with him and his friends sometime, maybe in minecraft or jackbox

and you’re a little overwhelmed bc you know they have a decent online presence. but he’s nice to you and you don’t have many online friends so you say yes :)

chat knows about you bc sapnap always has you on his alt streams to talk and hang out with him. surprisingly, chat is very protective over you and cheer you on even if you’re on a different team than sap

i imagine sapnap gives you his minecraft info and lets you go around the dsmp the same way dream lets drista hang out with his info

just... a stream where he leads you around and just talks to you in vc while you share your screen with him,,, and chat is like. sapnap you are so in love.

you spend your time in the smp making a cottage and a house for yourself. you even tame a cat.

(it’s the first pet on the server that sapnap doesn’t try to kill. that’s how chat knows he’s in too deep.)

you get along with everyone pretty well though, and sapnap fits in with your friends as well

it’s still mostly a long distance relationship, but the two of you are used to it so you make it work

RP EXPERIENCE/HOW LONG (MONTHS / YEARS?): time 2 feel old. my first memory of rping was when i was in third grade on neopets dot com. im gonna be twenty-six this year. jfc.

PLATFORMS YOU’VE USED:  neopets, email, skype, aim messenger (jfc i feel old), anatheria (did i even spell that right?? another Pet Place that a neopets friend rly liked but we had a nasty falling out and i never touched that again and that was late middle school early high school), tumblr, discord... forums galore as well. mostly email up until tumblr/discord happened.

BEST EXPERIENCE: i LOVE many of my tumblr rps and i miss having an active dash comm thing rolling, but funnily my happiest memory is when i was a kid writing on neopets. i rped the happy mask salesman in this super silly crossover fandom rp and he was like a goofy off-kilter father figure dicking around with these other charas. it was ur typical middle school silliness of OMG ROLFZ RAINBOWZ xDDD and the last memory i have of just. rly not caring how my writing was perceived or what i wrote, just whatever was super fun and to go for it.

RP PET PEEVES/DEALBREAKERS:  vague blogging, guilt tripping, a belief that we need to communicate constantly to write/be friends. i will stop talking for days, sometimes weeks, but will generally try to always reach out. i do not expect this of other ppl--reply when u want, exist when u want, idc!! we all got lives!!  likewise, when ppl get obsessive over shipping, upset when ships don’t work out, have an unhealthy expectation of both the relationship of muns and characters... pls im too old.

FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT:  first two Always, third im honestly embarrassed to write smut nowadays. my teenage hormonal horny phase has long passed and now im more into emotional bonding tethered to physical (hand holding, cuddling, tame shit) than sexual. my muses are horny af but i am horny for some Deep Emotional Connections.

PLOTS OR MEMES:  both. i am a winging it kind of gal but i do like spit balling until there is some sort of base idea and then running with it as far as i can.

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES:  every reply i try to keep short ends up long. every reply i try to make long ends up short. life is suffering.

BEST TIME TO WRITE:  the moment the brain activates and until it gives up on me. the latter happens often. the former not so much. but im hoping with summer around the corner i will be more eager to write with classes temporarily out!!

fanfic recommendations

for @kittensocute bc i heard “atsukita” and “iwaoi” in reference to fanfiction and i am There

i took your “i love slow burn or slow build fics... so i like relatively shorter burn fics (20-30k). If its a 10k oneshot slow burn hELL SIGN ME UP” and absolutely ran with it.

i listed my fav iwaoi fics (17) with a longer word count (longest is 80k) that are all mostly either canon compliant or divergent with only two straight up AUs. none of them feature heavy nsfw content and most if not all are tagged as friends to lovers lmao. feel free to read the my thoughts or just go into them blind!! and they’re all in order of how much I absolutely adore them :^)

now atsukita is not a big ship *sobs* but here are some of my favorite fics (7) of them! a lot of them are shorter bc i guess that’s just. what happens when it’s a small ship LOL. 

the formatting in this is fucked if you open it from ur dash but if it’s on my actual blog it should be fine!

Iwaoi

the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle

Word count: 66k

thoughts: my absolute absolute absolute favorite iwaoi fic. the characterization, the fact that oikawa’s a bastard but because he and iwaizumi are older (late 20s i believe), it feels more realistic and sad rather than oikawa being a bitch for the sake of it. spoiler alert it’s slow burn and pining and mostly oikawa not realizing his feelings. this world building is pretty cool bc iwaizumi is the professional player while oikawa is an entomology professor! also i love non-linear narratives bc of This fic. there’s mutual pining in this fic but it’s really really really subtle to the point where you dont even know if oikawa likes iwa. this made me cry like twice.

sunset towns

Word count: 33k

Summary: In the summer of 2020, Oikawa Tooru returns home from his first successful stint as captain of Japan’s national volleyball team. In one hand, he holds the undisputed weight of an Olympic medal, and in the other, his unresolved feelings for a childhood best friend.

thoughts: the tone in this is So similar to the courtship ritual that I liken this as an alternate story even though it’s still oikawa’s pov. professional player oikawa and regular guy iwaizumi and oikawa is just. bumming around at iwaizumi’s place and naturally he messes up but things happen.

thoughts: i looked through literally all the tags i could’ve thought of for this and nearly cried when i found it agian. outsider POV!!

In damp earth my body

Word count: 15k

Summary: Onscreen, the nation’s favorite setter has arranged himself so that he’s bowing, forehead pressed to the court, like he’s thanking everyone for their kindness thus far, like he’s asking for forgiveness. Hajime thinks: shit, it’s really happening

thoughts: oikawa retires and moves in with iwaizumi and they blur the line between roommates/best friends and being fwb. this is an iwaizumi pov and the pining is obvious on his end. as a iwa stan the tone made me feel weird bc it makes it seem like iwa cares more abt oikawa than he cares abt himself but. its a good fic

i grew up, you grew down

word count: 19k

thoughts: this is also SO funny bc basically oikawa retires and moves in with iwaizumi and becomes his stay at home wife and a bunch of shit happens like people think that oikawa is dating ushijima and oikawa basically loses it every time. here’s one of my favorite quotes:

“Oikawa also bought a new ultra-strength vacuum cleaner he’d decided to name Ushiwaka out of sheer spite, because it sucked all the air right out of the room. Iwa-chan didn’t think the joke was that funny when Tooru told him, which was frankly very hurtful and insensitive.”

Mint

thoughts: iwaizumi is moving and oikawa planned a perfect last hangout and it goes to shit featuring matsuhana. oikawa pov where he pines more than iwa which is something i can get behind!! and this was written in 2015 and iwa’s moving bc of a sports medicine program so iwaizumi stans know and love him sm ;;

Almost a Stranger

thoughts: same premise as mint LOL except they’re on a trip together and there’s more non-linear narrative!! this one is a little more mature in tone than mint i would say (funny how people just like splitting them up and throwing them in different countries huh)

Lost in Translation

Word count: 9k

Summary: Because misfortune come in threes, Iwaizumi Hajime starts his Thursday having a screaming fight with Shittykawa, spends his lunch break listening to the UCI women’s volleyball team gossiping about how Ushijima Wakatoshi had gone public about his longtime love affair with Oikawa Tooru, and closes out the day by drunkenly dropping his phone into a sewer grate.

thoughts: so funny. so sososoosso genuinely funny. the tone is so snappy and iwaizumi honestly just sounds like a confused teenager (which he is in this) and it gets extra points for including a lot of american culture that a lot of the other iwaoi college au ones don’t include for like. obvious reasons lol.

Something Borrowed

Word count: 16k

Summary: In which Oikawa and Iwaizumi have always been a foregone conclusion to everyone else, but a massive, unanswered question to one another.

thoughts: iwaoi roommates thats abo but it’s like. mentioned twice. whiny and possessive oikawa makes an appearance in this but it’s done really well

Summary: Oikawa realizes he’s in love with his best friend; it sucks for a while. (But only for a little while.)

thoughts: high school getting together!! my second iwaoi fic ever and this one is just. so sweet. just an unsure oikawa realizing iwaizumi might be more than someone he wants as a best friend. this fic is honestly really really lovely.

Summary: Hajime and Tooru move in together at the start of university. Too bad they’re stuck with the two gremlins that haunt their apartment.

thoughts: ok this fic was so funny. theyre uni roommates and matsuhana just come fuck shit up and they all act like idiots together even though they go to different schools. and this really throws me back to university days.

Thirty Years and Change (the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad)

Word count: 19k

thoughts: pro! oikawa and iwaizumi haven’t been close for a while until oikawa invites iwaizumi to go to the games with him. there’s a lot of frustration and pining and actually talking about feelings (aka iwaizumi losing his mind and getting advice from people like akaashi)

when it starts to rain, they go inside

Word count: 33k

Summary: “Where?” starts Iwaizumi.“ My parent’s old lakehouse, silly, didn’t you hear me the first time?” OR: Oikawa takes Iwaizumi to his lakehouse for two weeks, post-graduation.

thoughts: this was actually my first iwaoi fic which is funny bc the author doesn’t even like oikawa much and i didnt even ship anything in haikyuu before i read this fic and now im in iwaoi hell. oikawa is really frustrating in this in that it’s basically a really good character analysis on how oikawa comes off as a Mean person all the time bc he’s manipulative and there’s some explicit content

thoughts: one of my favorite aus. it’s all from kyoutani’s perspective and it’s almost so au that they’re original characters (if that makes sense). basically iwaoi matsuhana are ex-grifters except iwaoi are estranged and daishou somehow brings everyone back together. excellent world building and reading the pov from someone not involved with the iwaoi drama was refreshing

thoughts: a mythical kings au that’s just. so pretty. iwaizumi ends up becoming oikawa’s servant for some reason and the world building is a+ because you can feel the trust and frustration from both of them build

my second atsukita fic that rly sent me down atskt hell ;; what is essentially post-break up when atsumu gets signed to msby and he’s just Pining and sad for the most part. but the established relationship pre-break up was written really nicely because it just fits my hc of them just being domestic and atsumu being blatantly head over heels
