So if you change the romanization to Murus Fregit, you get something which seems directly translatable from Latin.  The wall has shattered.

Fancy and kinda dark academia aesthetic but is definitely not readable to most of us.

It's in cursive of course cause he's archaic.

And he's pretty lazy, he like barely holds his pen.

He mostly writes in Latin that way none of his brothers understand but sometimes he writes in his demon language.

Although with all the tech now he literally does the voice audio type or anything he needs to write down.

It's so rare to see this lazy ass with a pencil in his hand lol.

Its crazy but in cursive it is beautiful, like great penmanship.

But in print, Reiji shows a completely different side of himself.

He never writes in print because he finds that people may think he's vulnerable.

Reiji only writes his most personal thoughts in print and its because he never shares with anyone and can't be himself except for on paper.

So only sadness and angry are written in print.

It is canon that he once held a diary when he was younger so it wouldn't be surprising if he writes his feelings in print. I mean he's stressed.

If he had a lover he writes in print because he wants her to know this side.

Cursive is what he uses when he's doing chemistry or a grocery list.

The left is how he writes in his demon language its more secretive and mysterious. He hardly uses it tbh.

It's not super fancy or plain.

He probably does write in his free time, and honestly, he writes a lot. I bet he has so many journals that are filled over the years about his life as a vampire.

It's honestly fascinating but no one can read them.

If he is writing a very formal letter to someone important he uses the writing on the left.

If he is writing for himself or to his brother he uses the writing on the right.

Either way, no one can deny that he has good penmanship.

His signature is also really elegant.

He has his own signature style in cursive.

Like his brother it is in cursive and very fancy.

The left is how he writes in a more formal setting because it is easier to read.

He always writes really neatly surprisingly, it's the founder prince in him.

It's always in a steady line too, you'd think he'd measure where he wanted to put the handwriting.

The right is his more loose and less legible writing. He uses this if his letter is informal and it is to someone he is comfortable with or has known for a while.

He doesn't really write in print unless its for school and he wants to blend in.

Because he's supposed to be a British exchange student it doesn't surprise me if most of his notes are in shorthand.

I think once he learned that no one uses cursive he decided to not use it that much and stuck to print.

The mirror has taken many forms and currently is a vanity brought to Townsville by a bratty girl no longer with us (rip Princess I love you but your death is plot important). The mirror finds its way to this shed, no one knows why, but I know it’s because the vanity has had multiple owners since and was moved to the preschool shed for storage as a favor in return for a favor, and so forth and so forth.

Putting your blood on the surface brings you in contact with HIM, who allows you to really look into the depth of your soul and find the answer you’re seeking. There’s a price, though. That price is 1) you never know exactly what you’re seeking 2) your mirror-self is desperately trying to break out of the mirror. If they get you, they take your body and HIM gets your soul, which he consumes for power. So, basically, you’re forced to fight your inner mirror self as you attempt to piece together some sort of enlightenment (because, you know, HIM likes a good puzzle and nothing’s scarier then self reflection.)

But this piece of information sort of gets lost over time. Like, instead of working on yourself, HIM’s basically offering to fix your inner demons for you, but you have to figure out what needs to be fixed, but no one ever survives, so that little piece of information—that you need to be fixing yourself—is never shared between owners, which is all fine and dandy with HIM. He becomes a phantom akin to Bloody Mary. Ppl do the ritual for fun and then get stuck in this terrifying self-led therapy session

But does that even make sense?? I’ll flesh it obviously, but is it lame?? Also, I was thinking that you’re only stuck in the mirror world from 12-4, which encompasses the general witching hours, but idk why. I think maybe because the realms between the shadow world and the real realm are weakest then. But idk maybe that’s too short of a time period. I think four hours every night would suck tho so idk idk. I want their time in the shadow/mirror realm to affect their sleep.

Other fun magic things — light portals for quick travel that Bubbles is only able to adequately transverse. She’s got the “sight”

Brick understands what the mirror people are saying. To everyone else, it’s just pig Latin.

Healing is quicker in the mirror/shadow world because you’re not really physically there unless something is damaged beyond repair. So if you get cut in the beginning of your time, by the time you wake up, what may be left on you is only a faint bruise—like what happens sometimes with active sleepers.

Because you’re not physically there, stuff isn’t really physically there either, so if you move a car in the shadow realm, the physical car isn’t moved. But if you total the car, the car in the real world is destroyed. So locals think there’s some unexplainable crime/ghost problem.

Character focused:

Despite being a grade above Brick and Boomer, Blossom is the youngest of the group. She skipped a grade.

Boomer has a crush on Bubbles, but doesn’t end up with her. She’s not interested in him because she’s almost seventeen and is def not interested in dating a freshman. Sorry blue-lovers, but I promise it’s still a fulfilling relationship and there may be someone else for lil Boomer 😉

Mitch is actually plot important. He’s a prick but he ends up redeemed.

The Professor is VERY VERY plot important but isn’t anyone’s father. Mojo is equally as important — and a good foster parent (🤫)

Bubbles is raised by her grandparents, Mayor and Ms. Mayor. Her parents died in a car crash. Blossom is a test tube baby. Her mother is Bellum, who ends up marrying Sedusa, or here, strictly Ima Goodlady, who Blossom considers her annoying, gold-digging step-monster. Buttercup is raised by her mom, Ms. Keane. She has a father, but he’s not in the picture. He never remarried, but has a long term partner, who’s about 15 years older than Buttercup, and recently had a son named Ken. Buttercup’s never had the pleasure of meeting her brother and she doesn’t like talking about it.

Brick was abandoned as a baby. Butch’s parents could no longer take care of him (in prison/addiction issues), so he was taken in by the state. He’s in contact with them, but it hurts him a lot. Boomer was also taken in by the state, but his mother wasn’t a good woman, so they are no longer in contact. He doesn’t talk about it at all. And if you pry, you now have beef with brick and butch

Buttercup has a crush on Butch pretty much instantly. Butch doesn’t acknowledge her romantically until later on in the story, so yes, slow-burn. He’s too busy adjusting to the craziness.

Both trios are co-dependent. You don’t get Bubbles if Blossom and Buttercup can’t come.

Overall thoughts:

I really liked the finale! Some of the changes made sense, some did not. It feels like a lot happened, pacing was a bit weird. The father son reunion could have gone better, but could have been worse to. Might have been better as two eps but eh. Sally and Annabeth were great, Percy was adorable, I was so scared for him when Zeus nearly killed him. He was really going off tho, good for him I really liked Luke this ep. It was a lot of good set up and foreshadowing. I like that Chiron caught on that well Luke isn't entirely wrong and Percy would be very dangerous if he worked with Kronos.

I really want a season 2. I loved Sea of Monsters, and I'm exited for Tyson! He's one of the best characters. I also really like Clarisse so that will be good. Not to mention Thalia's revival!

I've seen a few comments about how the kids are just figuring everything out, and I kind of agree. I would like to see them bamboozled a bit more like with Clarisse as the thief. I also would have preferred if their disabilities were a bigger part of the story/plot/characterization. It was a big part of the books, and it was why they were written in the first place, so I wish it was touched on more

Overall, there were some good part and some not so good parts. I'm still hoping for a season 2. Hopefully they can tighten up the pacing a bit, and work on some more tension in the plot.

I am so hoping we get all 5 seasons, and maybe more but I doubt it. I really want season 3 and the di Angelo siblings.

Just finished reading the book cemetery boys. Part of me is sad, knowing that the translation to my language lost many things since it is not the original text, jokes, methaphors, language uses exclusive to the english language, and even emotions in some part. Part of me is happy, knowing that even tho the text isn't the same, it's still enjoyable. It feels weird, because I do have acess to the original copy (It would be a annoying process, but it isn't impossible to get the english version in my hands). Different to lets say, an old latin tale that has lost its meaning. I wonder how the original Illiad was, or some Kafka text that I cant read because I don't speak the language, I will never have acess to the original text in some cases, and that is just sad. Translations are weird and yet necessary.

Some lyrics make sense and some others are very confusing.

Here is my interpretation so far:

This a song about Shibusawa;

First 2 lines -> the ‘tail’ might be a reference to the draconic form of his power. This defines him as a foul character and we learn how ‘his’ death changed him.

Next 4 lines -> I couldn’t find neither a translation for crestortia nor words that would sound similar so I left it this way. “For a long time he wandered alone, but life isn’t eternal”. (I don’t know how these relate to Shibusawa. It could be about these years he roamed alone while looking for “the one”).

Next 6 lines -> (the translation was a nightmare to work on here so take it with a big grain of salt) “guardian who clothes the beast” could be refering to 2 things. 

Case 1: the guardian is Shibusawa and the Beast is Atsushi

In this case it would refer to when Shibusawa forced the White Tiger out of Atsushi when he was young; “to cloth” could mean the method employed to this end

Case 2: the guardian is Shibusawa and the Beast is his power

Here the guardian means how Shibusawa remembers how he used to be; this memory is what allows him to hide (clothe) his real form (no longer human ;p )

I don’t know what “the horn” refers to. The only one I can think of is the one on Shibusawa’s head at the end of DA (in his true form). “into pieces” = when Shibusawa met his end. These lines are probably mistranslated, which is why i have some troubles interpreting them ^^’.

Next 4 lines -> (I really like that part; it’s the only part of the song that is sung with a soft voice, compared to the opera diva singing the rest; almost as if to tell a secret, which is an amplification of the whisper previously heard ^^) 3 lines about the author (originator) being dead as a way to illustrate Shibusawa realizing that he is dead, and the last one to transition to the next part

Next 4 lines -> there are people in the city trying to stop him (the ADA). Not sure what the “mind pleading” refers to.

“Why now” -> I think that ‘why’ could be a reference to the memory of his death

Next 3 lines -> Not sure what “nestiio/nestoii” means. Ggl translated it as a “nest” but it isn’t the correct latin word.

Sorry if this is Super vague but I've just finished the book I've been reading for multiple months and was interested in reading the name of the rose now - but I do tend to take a long time to get through a book so I like really knowing what I'm in for. I was wondering if you had any particular thoughts abt approaching it/ what it's like to read?? Thx!!

hi sophie <3 yes i can talk a bit about it ! putting it under a read more bc it got a little long lol

first of all even tho i read it in a couple days i think this is a good book to take your time with and i honestly wish i'd slowed down a bit when reading it. in the postscript, eco says that "in narrative, the breathing is derived not from the sentences but from broader units, from the scansion of events. some novels breathe like gazelles, others like whales or elephants. harmony lies not in the length of the breath but in its regularity. ” the name of the rose is def a whale/elephant book, but even tho it's long, it has an extremely regular structure . the novel is split into seven days, and each day is split into the different times of day as the monks would have distinguished them - prime, terce, matins, etc. and these are given as the headings of each chapter so you always sort of know where you are in the day and the week, and as a result where you are in the story.

this makes the novel sound really clear-cut but i think it's more that the rigid structure provides a solid container for all of the labyrinths that are within - both the literal labyrinth in the abbey's library but also the confusing discussions of theology, the pages-long descriptions of art and architecture, and the emotional development of our teenage narrator. it is a book where it feels safe to be confused because you can feel that everything, while chaotic, remains contained; everything that happens takes place within the walls of the abbey and you can sense that the seemingly senseless events of the plot are slowly but surely heading towards an ultimate conclusion . above all, i would say it helps to keep in mind that while the name of the rose is many things, at the end of the day it's a thriller and a detective story. if you forget the particulars of the theology or miss some of the allusions, it doesn't really matter as long as you're developing and testing theories about what is going on in the abbey and why . which you will naturally be doing as you read !

as a note re: the latin, eco says this: “latin was and still is fundamental in giving the story its monastic flavor and providing evidence that certain references to ideas of the time are reliable and authentic; there again i am always anxious to submit my reader to a little punishing discipline. but i was disturbed when several people told me they felt obliged to go to a latin dictionary to look up certain phrases. that was too much, they were losing the flow of the story. i wasn’t worried then—nor am I now—whether the latin references are understood, especially when they are simply the titles of books; they are there to give the feeling of historical distance." this made me feel a lot better about not looking up stuff i didn't understand, which obv you can and should do if you want, but you can also rest assured that if you really need to know something it will rephrased in english.

i will also say as an addendum that several people have said good things to me about the audiobook so that could also be an option or a good supplement to reading a paper copy ! i think i might go back and listen now that i've read it once through to get a better handle on the story.

Ah yeah there's a bit of a bias there I guess with esl speakers as... they're people who are good at languages anyway. They are good enough and have practiced and worked enough to master at least 2 languages to even get to a position to discuss English punctuation with me lol.

I'm pretty familiar with the schooling in a few English speaking countries as I've got close family, several of which are young kids, in multiple countries and I'm always outstanded by the differences in what they are teaching, even year by year in the same country. My English classes pretty much entirely skipped a lot of what was considered at the time to be 'old fashioned' but which turned out to be pretty integral lol and yeah a lot of formal grammatical terms I learnt in French class not English. Computers were becoming a thing and everyone was a little taken aback by the potential of spellcheck which led to quite a lot of what they were teaching to be pretty inconsistent year on year (they'd decide we'd never need something and then a year later go back on that)

I was raised in a pretty big multigen family all of them very in to reading and words in general (tho no-one with a formal education) so it's always been pretty obvious when things have changed in the teaching year on year as there will be bizarre gaps in different generations knowledge. Which actually... thinking of it, I wonder how much of a difference how long ppl are in school for from country to country?

In the UK you start school at 4, but formal schooling ends the year of your 16th birthday, after that you chose what/ how you study. I haven't had an English class since I was 15 and that's pretty common here, I went in to sciences instead, so while I continued my education, there were no more chances for grammar lessons! It's my understanding that in America, they have a basic curriculum including stuff like that well in to university? What they did have time to teach me, is considered to be pretty advanced amongst other English ppl (at least in working/ middle class workplaces. I've always been the person ppl go to for help with formal writing in the offices I've worked in.) But I wonder if that would be the case if we all had a few more years of English class???

Adult literacy is...a bit of a problem here tbh. I used to work in finance and one of our biggest projects was trying to work with legal to make documents simpler because so many people being unable to read their paperwork was such an issue. There's a big class gap here, with private schools doing far better with language teaching, and teaching very differently (a lot of them still teach Latin for example), which really muddies the water when trying to compare these kinds of things as the education state schools are giving is supplemented by private education for those that can afford it (its very common for middle class families to use tutors and most kids that get in to selective state schools are middle class too). There's probably quite a lot of factors that come in to it thinking about it, interesting to consider.

I just recently saw a post that made me wonder if it's a fanfic thing or if a lot of books have them (I haven't read a lot of original novels by the way, they're too expensive to get a lot of). So, are em dashes mostly a fanfic wiritng thing? I read and write a lot of fanfic so it's normal for me to keep seeing it used but I've seen funny post saying it's not usually used and fic writers just won't let go of it and would use it.

It's a real piece of punctuation, certainly. Offhand, I think I've seen more of them in convoluted 19thC novels than in modern things.

The real reason they're so popular in amateur writing is that most people don't actually know how to use a comma, a semicolon, or a colon. M-dashes have easy rules, or at least people think they do.

· he has many forms, whether the 'human' one is his true one or not is still a mystery, seeing as those he may not be showing his true capabilities or if he has another twisted form that is a lot more powerful

· he may be a rival of kondraki and they hate each other's guts, but he still respects him a lot. clef even met draven (kondraki's son) and admires how konny is a good dad, so he only gives kondraki a hard time and doesn't actually dislike him (clef 🤝 kondraki: good dads and clef finds it cute)

· more than anything, he wants to take meri out on a dad and daughter day. go to the movies, the mall, buy her anything she likes, etcetc. he thinks she deserves to be spoiled rotten (and she does!!)

· but he really dislikes how his daughter is super christian, so if she ever finds out he may be the devil or even states he could be anything satanic or sinful, it wont be pretty on her side

· his face isnt that comprehendible until u personally get closer to him. if ur a complete stranger to him, its impossible to directly look at his face without some sort of problem. it'll seem like static or as if nothing is there, and itll make u want to look away since its too much for ur brain to handle (can make people have headaches or their eyes sore). if ur a pal or a well known enemy of his, you'll see some features like his sharp and terrifying grin, and sometimes his 3rd eye (which will make anybody be in distress)

· he, surprisingly, has a great voice. what makes up for his lack of face or any horrifying features is his voice. sometimes you'll hear him hum a melody or quietly sing a song in his office, he sings more calming songs than anything energetic. if ur lucky enough he'll hop his ukulele out and start singing a wonderful and peaceful song

· he loves guns, but not in a weird way. back to my first headcanon, once he entered this reality and had a somewhat stable form, the minute he found out theres metal shiny things you can hold that make loud kaboom sounds and have many varieties hes like "holy shit!?!? that is so cool!!!!!!!" and its really his comfort item. he usually goes to any open range and practices bc it is a great distraction and he loves holdin em (like a stim!). he cleans em regularly, like a hobby of some sorts

· he's made his own songs before, but he keeps em in private. he may sing em for his daughter though!

· hes more in touch with anomalous beings then regular humans, cause every anomaly thats been locked up by the foundation can relate on something

· "hm. this small anomalous child has no (good) parental figure in their life? well that is clearly my child now. i am their new dad"

· he is very intelligent, you can never prank, trick, or pull any game on him. he can read gestures and cues very easily, and can pick up any weird vibes or feelins within his area

· hes definitely an anarchist, i dont make the rules

· he sometimes wishes he can live a normal life ina suburb home with an amazing s/o and his beautiful daughter and they live happily ever after. then he proceeds with "well where the hell is the fun in that?"

· he has yet to comprehend human emotions, mental illnesses or neurodivergency, he may be able to trick and mess with someone in their head, but being able to fully comprehend human feelings and such is far out of his abilities. maybe one day though

· mess with his friends or family? hes already at ur house bud. there's no saving ur miserable life now

· the infamous 'dr clef can't be affected by anomalous things or properties' still holds very true. he can be affected by 166's powers tho!

· he speaks 4-ish other languages: old greek/latin, german and french. he can gladly try and take up more languages tho, they amaze him!

Extended thoughts on the Dark Fortress preview pages [spoilers at link]

(Would I be an MJ if I did not do this? This post is under a cut due to spoilers.)

I like the preview pages a lot, I’m excited for release - roll on March 31. There’s a lot packed into just these limited pages, so I’m looking forwards to seeing the issue and its contents in their entirety. 

A flashback to the Battle of Ostagar all those years ago is the last thing I was expecting when coming to this comic and it hit me with a one-two of feelings and nostalgia. Up there just off-screen, the Hero of Ferelden and Alistair have just lit the beacon in the Tower of Ishal. In these panels, the rain, the lighting, the atmosphere - it’s surreal (not in a bad way) seeing these fateful events again, back where it all kinda began really, and that page does a good job of replicating that cutscene and the heavy feel of it in a different medium. It’s a nice touch seeing surprise/unsureness and even conflict on some of the soldiers’ faces as Loghain gives the order to retreat. A couple of them even seen disconcerted as they walk away (looking at one another in askance). I like this take on Ser Cauthrien, and I wonder if Aaron ever encountered Aveline, Wynne, Carver or non-mage Hawke at Ostagar before the battle...?

Loghain’s words “He must do what his honor compels him to do” almost feel like a bit of metacommentary, i.e. on Loghain’s character in addition to obviously being about Ser Aaron.

In-universe before now, there have been varying accounts of Ser Aaron’s experience at Ostagar. Did he miss the fight, did he kill two ogres, etc. Now we see the truth of the matter is exactly as he told Vaea, which speaks of the trust and close relationship between the two. I’m not going to lie, the “I am coming my king” and subsequent panels make me cry on this re-read. Aaron reaching out for Cailan in his sleep with his other fist clenched, jerking awake from a nightmare in a cold sweat.. Aaron is so brave, he was the sole or one of the few soldiers in Loghain’s company to make this kind of stand (and you can see that there was a moment when he did turn to leave and considered it before turning back), and these panels convey the extent of the trauma that he experienced on the field of battle that day. I’m positive that in panel 2 here, it’s the exact moment when he sees Cailan die. It also hurts to think that not far from there, Duncan is seeing the same thing. They’ve done a good job integrating the new characters’ pasts with previous canon events with things like these. It’s like, expanding on things, but without anything conflicting.

When Aaron reaches for his alcohol skin I’m pretty sure his hand is shaking. Vaea is so tender and understanding/supportive at this part and it’s a really poignant and soft moment for them.. Aaron’s nightmares are a regular occurrence it seems. I love her and their relationship so much.. keeping watch over him while he sleeps a bit away from the others and the fire. ;; Also Autumn’s ears here, she’s lying down but still listening to what’s going on with and between her people. ;;

Brief pause here: I always appreciate getting a good sense where different events are taking place in the additional media. Also we now have in-universe confirmation that in the timeline we’ve now reached 9:45, as opposed to only external word-of-god. Do you guys ever think about your Wardens and how it’s been 15 years for them?

Aaron is like a father to Vaea 😭

Fenris has two daggers now in addition to his twohanded sword. The better for ending Danarius’ bloodline my dear 🔪

Have they tweaked Fenris’ hairstyle a bit, compared to Blue Wraith? Possibly also his skintone and eyebrows, compared to Blue Wraith? (I find this kind of thing hard to tell. If I’m incorrect here please feel free to correct me.) He looks good in this preview.

Poor Francesca. Tessa is really kind at this part and it’s nice to see more moments like these between female characters (women supporting one another). It reminds me of the moment in a previous issue where Vaea hugs Francesca on the ground. Tessa makes a great point here that true strength isn’t necessarily being stoic and unemotional, it’s standing up for what you believe in and for the greater good, even at great personal cost. It’s not 'not crying' and hiding your sadness. That’s a nice message, and again, Fran has really grown on me.

I also think it speaks well of Fenris and his character development after all these years in-universe that he was looking for a way to help Aaron, then immediately thought to go speak to Francesca when she was upset to see if he could help her in turn.

hhh brooding silent Marius staring broodily and silently into the flames and not responding to Fenris’ attempt at making conversation tho, the gentle lampshading..  That’s so true to his character. These might be my favorite panels in the whole preview. Fenris’ dry wit and facial expressions, the general composition, Fenris peacing out like “ok bye ig” lmao. You also get the sense that Fenris is reeling a bit and feeling abandoned since Hawke and co split up. After trying to do something to help both Aaron and Fran above, he then tries to make conversation with Marius. He’s trying to lighten the mood but also to connect after being alone for some time. He has missed having a group around him, and I suspect this group with its varying troubles and issues reminds him a lot of Hawke and co. That both the humor aspect and this characterization comes through in these 3 panels is pretty brilliant.

We reach the titular dark fortress! If ever there was a fortress for a bad guy, huh? x) The narrow exposed causeway being the only approach is a smart line of defense, strategically. Also, the realization that this is where Fenris lived while he was a slave of Danarius’ :| It’s a horrible-looking place and will be full of bad memories for him.

If this is how stormy the Nocen Sea gets in places - well, it reminds me of the lore that in Thedas naval exploration beyond the known map has been historically limited by different factors like pirates, Qunari dreadnoughts, stormy seas and sea creatures etc.

Characters speaking their native languages in places is always a nice touch. Now we’ve heard “By the Maker!” in Orlesian.

Aspects of the style and architecture of the Tevinter buildings in this preview, like the window shapes and the red lights and stuff, echo or remind me of what we’ve seen of Minrathous in the most recent trailer and some of the recent pieces of concept art for the next game. Neat.

We have our name and identity for the mage on the cover! Tractus Danarius, bastard son of Danarius. Danarius fucked around huh. “Tractus” has a Latin root, fittingly for a Tevinter name. Its different meanings are quite interesting: being dragged, extracted, plundered, an anthem sung in some masses, an elongated area or abnormal passage... I wonder if one of them will come into play somehow, the name possibly having been chosen for a reason? I also wonder how young Tractus is relative to Fenris, and if their paths have ever crossed in the past.

Tractus makes his entrance with two elven slaves or servants in tow. Like on the cover, his eyes are red. The head of his staff is a red sphere, also. Can we assume a connection to red lyrium, then, given these factors and the villains’ interest in using red lyrium to power the sarcophagus? I would guess that as normal magic was required to make it work with blue lyrium, the thing required to make it work with red lyrium is blood magic? A blood magic ritual. My guess is that the thing Tractus shows Marquette and Nenealeus is probably a chained up dragon or similar, which they plan to sacrifice and use the blood/power derived from that to fuel the magic/ritual. This is considering blood as a theme in this setting, blood as a source of power mechanically and the dragon-like beast on one of the covers which has clearly at one point been shackled and collared. (Here’s some previous speculation about Dark Fortress based on the covers.)

Although Tractus’ relative youth and inexperience compared to Nenealeus comes across in these pages, I get the feeling that Nenealeus will regret talking down in this manner to Tractus later in the comic.

It seems Tractus paints his nails dark. His commitment to aesthetic I give 5/5 stars

Remember the fall of Ventus/Qarinus to the Antaam invasion in TN? The Antaam must be progressing through Tevinter if people fear that Neromenian may soon fall also.

I appreciate that everyone’s horse is different! It’s a nice touch. A lot of the time in media groups of people ride identical horses like they’re clones or automatons as opposed to actual creatures.

Tractus’ smile when he’s asking if they’re going to wait for Qintara to arrive is slightly manic, lol, he’s giving off “Are we there yet?” car journey energy here. The doorway in this panel - is that a portcullis-style door? It seems like it has spikes at the bottom which would sink into the floor, and that there’s some kind of mechanism running along the floor towards it. Presumably to contain the [dragon?]?

I forgot Nenealeus has a sword - I guess then he knows magic artforms similar to those of a Knight-Enchanter or Arcane Warrior. Also here, Marquette echoes the Executor in TN, with the sentiment that Qintara fell with Ventus. Nenealeus is then referencing Gaius, the impersonator Qintara, right? That’s interesting; Gaius’ true master was Fen’Harel, on whose behalf he accessed important information about the world. This means then [?] that some of the time when Gaius believed himself to be working on behalf of Fen’Harel, he was really being manipulated by Nenealeus. Poor Gaius, at different points Fen’Harel and Nenealeus were pulling his strings. Does Nenealeus’ manipulation refer to Gaius trading it away to House Danarius for information?

Marquette references the red lyrium idol, and suddenly my Dragon Age 4 ears are pricking the way Autumn’s do. x) He mentions that it makes weapons, referencing I assume Meredith’s lyrium sword, Certainty and the ritual blade that pops out from the base of the idol during The Dread Wolf Take You. I wonder when the events of this comic take place in relation to the stories related at the spy meeting in TDWTY? Is this before or after the events of the Mortalitasi’s tale? At any rate, Marquette voices something we’ve been obsessing over: what else can and does the idol do specifically, beyond just making weapons and being Ominous and Powerful? Because whatever it is, it’s key to Solas’ ongoing plans, and Solas obviously knows.

So it seems that the villains’ plan is to use the red lyrium idol’s sword part with the sarcophagus, red lyrium, a ritual and [the thing Tractus shows them in that panel - the dragon?] in order to transform Shirallas into, essentially, a Red Wraith, a Red Lyrium Fenris. And then to arm him, under Nenealeus’ control, with the sword.

Does Shirallas still have his vallaslin - is it just the lighting and the angle in that panel? Also, that panel with Shirallas and Nenealeus looks so ominous and foreboding 😭 .. (and reminds me somehow of Fenris and Danarius when Fenris was still his slave and bodyguard) Shirallas, we really are in it now 😭 This is a really cool panel btw, like the composition, the lighting, the dramatic-ness. 

Nenealeus is motivated by a desire to route the Antaam from Tevinter (like the mage in the Mortalitasi’s tale in TDWTY) and reconquer lost lands in order to restore the glory of the Imperium (which reminds me in a way of of Aurelian Titus, who also wanted to restore the Imperium to greatness). Classically Tevinter here.

“Danarius the Lesser” is a sick burn. I’d guess Tractus’ life thus far, as a bastard, has had themes and struggles with inferiority and consequent lack of power but desire for it (being disrespected, but craving respect, being connected to a certain world but not really part of it, in fact rejected by it). Venatori connection confirmed. That the Venatori had to be convinced to accept someone as a Danarius - implications for the role of the Venatori remnants and their role in Tevinter and things in general going forwards? Lightning flashes overhead as Tractus and Nenealeus have this face-off in that panel, emphasizing the tension between the two. I wonder what the magic in the fortress and in the courtyard can do? It’d have been no mean feat to escape from this place as a slave, it seems, especially bearing in mind there’s only one proper way out, that causeway (passage not included). Tractus’ staff-head lights up when he’s making a threat (uh-oh), and then wow! Shirallas moves so quickly, in the blink of an eye suddenly appearing out of nowhere and startling the guard-mage onlookers. He’s fast and formidable.

I wonder about Tractus. Is he a “half blood” because he’s a bastard and his mother wasn’t an Altus, or even wasn’t a mage, or because he’s a bastard and his mother was an elf? Or both?

Will we see a face-off between perrepataes (Marius and Shirallas)? Will Marius face-off against his former master, Nenealeus? Perhaps a showdown between the Blue Wraith and the “Red Wraith” is on the cards?

Back to our team in the tavern! There’s a looot of great character content packed into these pages, which is really cool. Each brief character interaction conveys a lot, and in general this sequence is just well-executed imo. How troubled and tired Aaron looks at the bar (my heart.. it hurts); Fran worrying for Aaron; Vaea knowing that she can’t pressure him too much because that’s just not how it works when it comes to folks who struggle with issues like these; Vaea asking after Fran’s wellbeing; Fran struggling to come to terms with what happened to her father; Fenris watching the door waiting for news (he’s so vigilant isn’t he? safety, an escape-route..); Marius Broods Harder; Vaea’s [relative] pacifism being highlighted; Vaea engaging Marius looking for reassurance; and the choice of having Marius break his silence now is meaningful and impactful in that it shows what happens when one becomes ‘numb’ to the constant murderizing of people, so to speak. Fenris then rightfully points out that becoming numb to killing and violence isn’t really a good thing and is worse, really, than being ‘soft’ or uncomfortable with it. I wonder if he’s speaking from experience here, given the hundreds of people Hawke and co kill their way through during the Kirkwall years, for example. Then Vaea’s concern for Aaron and his state of mind, and Fenris’ uncanny insight into that, of a man he’s only recently met.

Tessa looks so cute when she comes in the door! I love Vaea’s lil “:D” face when she sees her, and I wonder what the tavern food on the table is.

Those two panels, when Fenris talks about Hawke and Leandra, are the biggest emotional gut-punch in the preview pages 😭 omg.. I’m not strong enough for this.. bls... bruh... This is then compounded by (hitting me when I’m down!!) the look of sheer... fear, fury, alarm, upset, shock - that appears on Fenris’ face as soon as he hears “I found Danarius”. Seriously, look at his eyes here. He (understandably) still has a trauma-response associated with the name/man.

I have to say, it’s very Metal of Fenris that not only did he kill Danarius in DA2 (in those universes), but he has also been going around Tevinter since then killing all of Danarius’ [adult] heirs, and that his response to learning there’s still one remaining is to grab his sword and go to march off with the aim of ending the bloodline a second time. Very metal

I love the final panels in the preview as well! Vaea’s sense/smarts and how she wasn’t afraid to tell Fenris no, Autumn’s giant ears, how Autumn also moves with Vaea to step in front of Fenris to stop him (SHE! HELPED!!!), Autumn’s Happy Face and furiously wagging tail and agreement with Aaron, and Proud Dad Aaron rising from his slump to praise Vaea with the most Proudest Daddest expression that you ever did see...  ( ´•̥̥̥ω•̥̥̥` )

how to deal with feeling that you don`t want to read bible at all?

Read something else!!

For real, if you dread opening the Bible and get nothing out of it, it’s okay to leave it aside for a while and read (or watch, or listen to, etc.) other things. You have your whole life to dig back into it, if you ever feel called to do so at all. In the meantime, there is wonderful wisdom to be found in other sources too -- many of which, but not all, point back to scripture. I believe God would rather you be exploring those such works and actually gaining wisdom and connection to the Divine, than see you slogging through scripture as a chore and getting nothing but boredom or frustration out of it. 

You might, for instance, read books that are about the Bible in the hopes that they can help you learn what there is to love in the Bible.

I most highly recommend Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again by Rachel Held Evans. Read that and you’ll find a beautiful framework for reading scripture faithfully and critically, with advice on how to approach the more disturbing texts.

Or maybe you don’t want a book that’s about the Bible at all, but is spiritually rich -- finding a good devotional is what you’ll want to do then. 

My personal faves are, like, anything written by Barbara Brown Taylor (An Altar in the World, for instance), A Tree Full of Angels by Sister Macrina Wiederkehr, Native by Kaitlin B. Curtice (not a devotional, actually a memoir, but so so rich). 

If you like shorter stuff than a full book, check out the Our Bible App for so many incredible devotionals, including ones by and for BIPOC, LGBT/queer folks, disabled folks, and more. 

Or maybe you want some quality spiritual poetry!

If books aren’t your speed in general, you might prefer a good podcast -- some of my favorite “spiritual” type ones include 

Bible Bash (it is SUCH a fun podcast that looks at Bible passages from a queer/trans lens, or sometimes from an environmentalist lens); 

Everything Happens with Kate Bowler (which explores life after or in the midst of suffering, from chronic illness to a loved one’s death)

my own podcast (lmao i’m sorry, i’m that kind of person), Blessed Are the Binary Breakers, where I interview trans and/or nonbinary people of all sorts of religious backgrounds about their experiences with faith, gender, and life in general

So. Yeah. It’s okay to take a break from the Bible and explore other ways of connecting to the Divine, humanity, and all of Creation for a time. You’re okay. The Bible will be waiting for you, its pages as alive as ever, whenever you’re ready to try again.

You absolutely want to know the history behind why any given Bible text was written. You try to read one of the prophets without knowing about the Exile? you’re gonna be bored. You might be disturbed. Ya gotta know the history!! Having a Bible with good commentary will help with that! 

I also recommend The Bible Project on Youtube’s videos for good historical context -- even tho I don’t agree with all of their theology, their history is sound and they have a wonderful concise engaging video on every single book of the Bible for you to watch. (Don’t like videos? Check out their website instead for info on each book in text format)

Know you don’t have to read from Genesis through Revelation all in order. You can pick the books of the Bible that most call to you. Some of my faves include Genesis, Exodus, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel (but i’m weird that way haha, you’ll want lotssss of good commentary for those), Amos, Joel, Micah, Mark and Luke, and 1 Corinthians.

It’s also cool to read a book or passage of scripture while engaging with a variety of interpretations on that same text at the same time! 

When I want to ~Resonate~ with what I’m reading, I seek out queer/trans and disabled theologies. 

When I want to be challenged to love my neighbor better and catch glimpses of God I (as a white, middle class, US citizen, etc.) would never catch on my own, I check out works by Black theologians, Dalit theologians, stuff from Mujeristas and Womanists and Latin American liberation theologians and on and on.

Find suggestions for such commentaries here in my recs tag. 

Or, if you’ve been taught how to read academic articles, you can visit academia.edu to search for free scholarly texts on any Bible passage you can think of, and see if there are any good ones from a perspective you’re interested in. (Example: if you search for “Isaiah 56″ and “disability” on there, you should find some gooooood stuff).

And if you’re ever reading a passage from the Bible and think “oooh I bet there are disabled/trans/Black/Indigenous/feminist/etc. theologians who’ve said some amazing stuff about this bit but I have No Clue how to find their writings on my own -- message me!!! I would LOVE to help!! Let me put my seminary Masters of Divinity to use and infodump about cool theology PLEASE
