HI. HELLO. I said a while ago that I REALLY wanted to compare up my favourite shows cuz they're both SOOO undderated and here that is

A COMPARISON BETWEEN MILO MURPHY'S LAW AND STRANGE HILL HIGH

First.. I feel I need to introduce both shows

MML

If you didn't know.. it's made by the creators of and takes place in the same universe as phineas and ferb (it has a crossover too !!).. but as its own show, its SO unique. It follows a boy called milo who suffers from a family curse called Murphy's Law (anything that can go wrong, will go wrong) and his adventures with his friends !! Most of the episodes are just like general shenanigans that follow milo but it does have a plot that is introduced later on :) Also, because its made by the creators of pnf, its got the same humour .. it's really funny

CHARACTERS

The main trio are milo murphy, zack underwood and Melissa chase (in that order on the picture below) and they have a ... pretty standard TV trio dynamic, BUT all of the characters are SO fun and likeable!! Like, for instance, zack was in a regionally famous boyband and other fun things like that :)

Remember how I said there's a plot introduced later.. yeah, well it's basically created by these geezers (dakota and Cavendish, in that order on the photo below) who are introduced as time travellers set out to save pistachios. They're really funny and also voiced by the shows creators (or the same vas as doofenshmirtz and major monogram). They also REALLY remind me of me and my best friend, which means like ... nothing if you aren't us, but if you have a similar dynamic, it's SO fun to see

I dont want to spoil the plot much at all but the first season is about time traveland the second is space travel. If I'm honest the 2nd season.. isn't great cuz they made doofenshmirtz a main character but plot wise its still fun (season 1 is amazing tho still nothing tops it to me) so here's a picture from missing milo (one of the main plot episodes in s1)

I'm gonna be so fr.. I've watched this show since release but have like 0 fandom interactions with it (thats a lie actually i have like 10 but thats not the point) so idk how much introducing it needs (still any is too little to me. imo this show should be standard watching for everyone) so anyway... the show doesn't rlly have a PLOT like all the episodes are stand alone, buutt it does mostly follow Mitchell as he starts at strange hill high and all the insane things that happen there (idk how to explain it cuz of how different every epiosde is but its SO good pls trust me). Its also fully posted on YouTube cuz it's like.. old and cancelled or smth so that's always good (not the cancelled bit tho lol)

CHARACTERS

Just like mml, shh also follows a main trio and has a great side cast. It's trio is becky butters, Templeton and Mitchell tanner (in that order below) and again have a .. pretty standard trio dynamic BUT more like the kind of British TV drama dynamic (.. cuz its set in a british secondary school). I LOVE these geezers SO much and they're just that kind of cast that to this day, I still don't know which one I'm more like

Because its not got a plot to vaguely explain, I'm going to tell you about my favourite episode 99 things to do with a time machine. It's one of my FAVOURITE episodes from any show ever. I love it. (I think it was also the first shh episode i watched cuz i watched it live on tv first before like.. downloading the whole show in 4 different places). The premise of the episode is that the gang is late for school so Mitchell decides to change the school clock so it doesn't LOOK like they're late. This actually turns back time and they abuse the hell out of this. Here's an image.

NOW TO THE COMPARISON!!

Ahhh.. this is like the MAIN bit but for 2 shows that are like permanently engraved in my brain its actually challenging me sm to compare them up like this. Why? No clue. Getting people to watch both is literally what I set out to to lmao

Shenanigans

Like I said, most of mml and ALL of shh basically revolve around whatever shenanigans the trio are doing. In mml they're very much unintentional cuz of murphy's law and the episode normally involves doing whatever to overcome the damage. This is more like the opposite for shh. The trio normally end up discovering smth wild going on in their school and mess about with whatever it is. Two examples I chose for this is mmls athledecamathalon, where the pitch gets destroyed and milo helps his sport team win, and sshs first episode, king Mitchell, where the gang discover a Knight who serves mitchell

These aren't exactly the CLOSEST comparisons I could make .. but you get the idea. VIBE wise they are VERY similar

SETTING

I also want to talk about the setting. Mml takes place all round danville (at different time periods too) and then a planet called octalia by the end of s2. Shh takes place EXCLUSIVELY in the school .. cuz it's puppetry and yk theyd have to actually BUILD a set

CONCLUSION

Ngl tumblr ate the rest of my essay. Twice. (Probably served me right for not having a backup but oh well) and it's kinda annoyed me. I promise you they're so similar is vibe PLEASE watch them both they're great

Since tumblr is going to be a jerk and not let me post my cosplay, I'll go ahead and write down my review for the movie.

I'm writing this a couple days out, so sorry (and correct me, i love discussing this movie :3)if something's not correct. I was also writing this in-between breaks at work lol.

There will be spoilers, so you know the deal. I will tag it as such but you have been warned. :3

I'm also putting a read more divider cause it is looooong lol.

My fiancée and I went to go see the dub. He hasn't seen the series since s1 and I made him watch the recap but I felt the recap didn't explain everything to really get a full understanding of the importance of this movie and the characters, but I do appreciate having it. (I think I'll use it in the future for explaining to those I talk to that haven't seen the series, cause have you ever had to explain the series to someone that has never watched it before? Lol)

So we'll start with The Dub

I was favor of the dub in the beginning. I don't mind either sub or dub, but dub is easier for me sometimes when I'm drawing or doing a craft and don't have my eyes always on the screen. I was happy to see that all the original cast came back for this, as I know through their dvd commentaries that they have a real passion for the series. The start of the movie felt a little awkward to me, almost like the VAs were trying to find their way back into their voices. Frederica's voice I think was a little off, a little quieter and softer than I would have imagined hers to be. I know a few people don't like Kate Oxley's voice for Akane but I think she did an excellent job at Akane's break down in the end. It felt very raw and believable.

Plot

Overall I was very pleased with the plot of the movie. After getting context for everything in the movie after reading spoilers from Japanese only showings with no subtitles, I felt that the movie went way deeper than my first impressions. It was a nice surprise to have what feels like a less all over plot that we have gotten in recent years. My fiancée throughly enjoyed it even though he didn't know most of the backstory and I had to fill him in on a few things. His comment for Shindo after the wedding was "nooooo, he kills himself?" Which I replied "yep". There was foreshadowing for both Saiga's and Shindo's deaths but I felt that it was done right. Not too obvious, but enough that it wasn't overdone and you could pick up on it. One piece of context that was filled in for me that I found interesting is that Shindo was an upperclassmen to Saiga, and Saiga warns I think Akane? About Shindo and how he uses people and in sometimes dangerous ways, and that Saiga wonders if one day he'll end up getting hurt from it. And then guess what happens!! I know Saiga warns Akane about Shindo because of his shady methods to get what he wants, and I can't remember when in the timeline, but she asks Mika to do a background check on him.

As for Shindo's foreshadowing, he has a conversation with Akane and invites her to Kei's and Mai's wedding, where he gives that weird speech lol. Sadly I can't remember too many details but I know the way he has his last talk with Akane made me pick up that his suicide was soon, a product of sibyl supplying him with a gun and making him accept responsibility for all he tried to do. You couldn't wait until maybe a day or two after the wedding?? Lol.

I liked that Saiga and Kogami got to talk again. One of the only remnants of shinkane in this film (yeah there wasn't a lot sadly :() comes from Saiga telling Kogami that he shoukd apologize to Akane (which leads to that awkward phone call where it seems like he kinda? tries and fails as they made him a stoic and manly pride type of personality. I don't really like how cold he is at the start of the film either but I almost see a little bit of it as maybe he's been away and around so much violence for so long that this is the only, in his weird Kogami way for him to act. I do think it's no excuse tho for erasing any trace of the shinkane we have, as that relationship is special to many of us and not always for romantic reasons.) I did have a laugh at later when Saiga asks him if he did apologize to which he replies "I don't know what you are talking about". Come on Kogami! You know he can tell you are lying!

I did like that our bad guys had a more religious and cult like approach this time. I feel that's a topic that hadn't been touched in the series yet and finally the movie's title Providence made sense. These guys are dangerous enough to pose a threat, and our heroes get hurt several times. Plus they were a special group for SAD that went rouge, which is so interesting to me. Tonami is the leader of this group and aims to get the Stonskaya documents that can predict wars before they happen or can escalate them to one's favor. He also either helped develop or came across an ai (can't remember details) that he found could pose as a God and he controls his soldiers with a chip(?) in their heads that he can turn on and off at will. Kei's brother Akira is part of this group but is revealed later that he was a double agent( I was surprised at that!) And that he burned his face so he would not be recognized. Shindo sadly kills him later as he fights control for his body from Tonami.

(Trying to finish up here, god this review is long, thank to those that are still with me lol)

I'm gonna try to jump ahead to the end. The scene of Akane's unspeakable deed (lol) was very well done. You have Sibyl forcing her to take Shindo's position, which I got the impression that she didn't want it. And yet it was another Sibyl covering up something bad, sweeping it under the rug and trying to silence Akane more. Akane's whole thing through this movie is that there still needs to be laws, cause Sibyl will and has failed to protect people. So she realizes that she has to do the unthinkable and show that Sibyl is not as invincible as people are pushing for it. Her letter to Kogami was a great scene, with him realizing at the last minute what she was going to do and that he couldn't do anything to stop it as he was locked up. My fiancée was so surprised and it was great to hear his reaction, as he hadn't seen s3 and didn't have the context clues that we all have had lol.

Overall, I thought it was a very good film and great tie in to some pieces missing. I'm still not sure why Sugo and Gino joined SAD tho? That part might have gotten lost on me.

Shinkane

Sadly there wasn't much. I could say that was my only disappointment, along with Kogami's character towards Akane. As other's have said, it seems that he realizes too late. Like maybe he was trying to keep his distance so he can continue to think that she's the same pure inspector he's always known. I love Saiga's quote to him that "she's not God or Budda" so hopefully moving forward there will be something (despite what the writers say!!) as he greats her so warmly at the end of s3. As he swears to get her out and then he's not the one who does it! He might have some competition lol.

I also want to point out that I loved the soundtrack! I was happy to see Ling Tosite Sigure and Egoist back, cause I feel like it's not fully Psycho Pass without them. But! I was listening to the Providence soundtrack before I saw the movie and it's soooo beautiful, so give it a listen if you have always loved the soundtrack like me. :3

So those are some of my thoughts. I will gladly discuss them with anyone if they want. Also to correct anything I got wrong lol.

So yeah s1 and so far a LOT of positive things to say! The characters are super endearing, the story, while not what I expected, is cool and My GOD THE ENGLISH DUB IS SO GOOD???????? LIKE OMG IT'S /SO/ GOOD. I did not find a french dub yet but I'm p sure it exists but also like the english vas are excellent. Mob is perfect, so is Reigen, Dimple, blond bitch, ritsu. Yeah this is great. Also I rly like the style! more simple than most animes but I actually prefer that!

Indonesian dub Gomens blablabla ramble

The Indonesian dub has a much better translation than the Indonesian sub. There were a lot of translation mistakes in the sub and it erases some of the more crucial clues, it's kinda jarring especially when the sub did a really great job in s1. Although, there is one mistake in the dub tho; the moment where Jim remembers what Metatron said to him before deciding to erase his memory but I think the translators were given the text without a context beforehand and had to work chronologically without knowing the ending.

Other than that the dub is pretty awkward like any other Indonesian dub in local channels but for that standard it's still considerably satisfying to listen to. I really like what Crowley's VA did and I felt like some delivery became sorta funnier in Indonesian. Saying something like "teman bugil Bapak yang tadi apa kabar?" instead of "how's your naked friend?" is just much much funnier. Also, as someone who grew up with Indonesian religious texts, the bible lore becomes much much nonsensical if not already.

I love the fact that the whole time Nina and Maggie refer to Azi as "Bapak", even replacing the second person pronoun with just "Bapak". For context, we call an adult man "Bapak" as a sign of respect to indicate that he is either higher in status (someone with a high position in an institution, a community leader, a professor, etc.) or simply much older and it gives a nice touch. I think it's consistent with the original English where they call him "Mr. Fell", it just enhance it a bit. I just think it's nice that it means Azi is a much older and respected member in their neighborhood and if someone like him exist here, we will surely address him as "Bapak".

This also might be a controversial opinion, but do know this opinion comes from a very genderqueer perspective (since fuck gender, what's that even, I ditched it a long time ago) -- I wouldn't expect to change the "Lord" in "Lord Beelzebub" to our equivalent of "Lady" can be much..... more captivating??? Well at least that's the only decent word I can find to describe it. Nobody uses "Nona" to refer to someone anymore unless it's to fill in official documents indicating that you are an unmarried (usually young) female identifying person. It's almost considered archaic. While the equivalent of "Lord"; "Tuan" is also rarely used, the connotation with "Tuan" immediately indicates a royal or a higher up. With "Tuan" there's an expectancy for you to lead and be important, but not with "Nona". So the idea of this being referred by an honorifc that is meant to refer an unmarried and young female identifying human having a really high status in hell, commanding the entire hell and have demons cower over them and enact their demands or else is just WHOOEEE 🥵💦 THE SHEER POWER ON THAT CONCEPT. A mere "Nona" TO HOLD THAT MUCH POWER. It's really hard to explain but I really dig it, especially with the dub changing every second person pronoun to Bee from the demons as "Nona" as well. I will be honest that if in English "Lord Beelzebub" was "Lady Beelzebub", it still wouldn't give the same impact the way "Nona Beelzebub" does. Either way, I really like that. While I personally would still prefer to refer Bee with their masculine title of Prince/Duke of Hell, I consider this translation a nod and a yes.

The title Prince/Duke of Hell is translated as "adipati" and it's gender neutral so that's neat as well (luckily a lot of Indonesian terms are gender neutral such as "pacar"/"pasangan" etc).

Although, with Bee's dub, I still prefer the Japanese version since it's just so wild to me HOW COMPLETELY CHANGED they are when interacting with Gabriel. It's amazing.

Hi! I loved the trailer! I couldn't help but notice though how the art style looks a bit different? And the frame rate looks lower but that could also be from the trailer. still looks good tho! I wonder if it'll remain like that the whole time or if they went for a slight change due to the arc being in the past. iunno I kinda wish Gojo's eyes were as insane looking as they were in s1 and the movie tho 😭 At least detail them a bit more in closeup shots y'know?

Besides that, does anyone know if they changed Getou's VA? I really couldn't tell if it sounded different or not but like With the controversy I'm unsure what they're gonna do Ok besides besides that, I don't actually hate Toji i find his character interesting (but an asshole). ANYWAY. I've wanted to do my own little thing for GL S2. Yes the actual one we got. Just my little mini analysis of it, if you could call it that.

This post talks about all of the characters and what I liked/disliked from them this season. It will be under the cut. It will be long. It will be every character. Enjoy if you decide to read <3.

Let's start off with our main besties. Our main kiddos

Chase: Okay. I will say I didn't hate. A LOT of what he did in season 2. Also kinda feel he shouldn't have had his big sacrifice from s1 (giving up his physical body) be fixed just like that yeah idk. It CAN happen but that was waaay too short a time.

Now, this is all based on the last time I actively watched all of season 2, which was technically the first time. And the last. There's probably scenes with him that I really hate but straight up don't remember.

Yaz: What did you even do this season. We got your backstory (which was retconned from freaking s1) and then I feel like you didn't get to do anything. But be sad. I'd be sad too. You deserve so much better, as does literally everyone else on the freaking character list.

Also your backstory was Fine. If it didn't retcon season one, it would've been aight.

Kazu: Well! At least you died! Didn't have to deal with the Everything that Happened after your death.

Why were they doing you like that. They took your confusion, but willingness to learn and not judge from s1, and turned it to *gestures* that. It could've been INTERESTING. it was not.

Cammie: Well, let's just be grateful that they didn't do anything worse since she was technically 18 with the time skip!

Would've loved to see you repurpose the Union's tech but ok. Ig suicide and become nano. IDK.

In S1, the Spy's brain gets fried. We see this on screen. We are shown different reactions, from horrified to 'glad that's over'. It actually you know sets the stage. And you know. *Gestures at Chase and the rest of his team*.

Not Miranda randomly deciding to fire on (? I don't remember the context) both Polity and Nemesis Units (That was probably the context) alike, killing Jodie in the process because MARIN TELLS HER TO.

MARIN WOULD NEVER. BARK BARK.

Also Miranda would never but obv.

Jodie literally wasn't a bad character. He just didn't get to do ANYTHING.

Miranda: *Holds her gently* Okay. Not entirely. Bad. They still hurt you Bad. Not as bad as Marin. But Bad.

I did like the scenes of her and Dri tho :) What little I remember.

Marin: Her character was assassinated the most out of every other character. SURE. I'LL BELIEVE THAT MISS "You're making soldiers out of these children!" Would immediately stoop to these incredible lows. That directly affects said children.

I like the Polity not being exactly the good guys. And I like the Union also being the bad guys.

Should've freaked out when Cammie 'ascended' imo. I mean. IDK. Or you know. When Kazu DIED.

Caliban: They could never make me hate u Caliban. I do wonder why your inner you was a child though. I sure wish we got more of you being you. Boy howdy can't wait to explore how all of Weller's grief in his past absolutely went into how he created Caliban. And how Caliban has all his memories, but chooses to block out the ones that he deems unimportant, both good and bad. Like a Cammie choosing not to delete her memories of her head being ripped off, but instead of deleting them, Caliban just absolutely shuts them off unless he determines that they hold some kind of use.

Idk, they should've done more with you, Mr. Omega Protocol.

alright i have now finished s16b and well. obligatory thoughts post about it

it was definitely .. interesting! gotta be honest i love garmadon's role here he was so very funny (i now ship garmadon x vinny this is not a debate) and i'm glad he's getting better :)

how the whole season went was... well,,,,,,,,, we were definitely robbed of villain lloyd jkfdhgkjhdfg i know we were all theorizing it, from the concept art and everything, and it would have been SO FUN but i guess i'll take the 5 seconds of his oni form :/

speaking of lloyd i uh. really didn't like him this season? like yea i get that he doesn't wanna be like garmadon, but he knew garmadon when he was good too!!!!! he can't have just forgotten everything s3-5 garm did for us! lloyd your father LOVED you even during s1 and 2!!!!!! why are you treating him like he was always emperor garmadon??? it makes no fucking sense to me

ive seen a lot of ppl say how crystallized feels more like a normal season than a finale and i'm not sure i agree. it did have a finale vibe, but i definitely don't think the story is over. judging from how the writers have put extra content in comics and stories, i wouldn't be surprised if we got extra content about the aftermath. again, i'd really love to see harumi getting better, but she actually needs to fucking work for it

Kurt Glee Rewatch: Pilot

Can I just start by saying damn, what a pilot. Like, establishes all the characters, has an arc, but also lets us know right away that this show is gonna be Chaotic AF. Not much Kurt here but still... what a time. 

Here we go:

Kay, not Kurt but can I just talk about this opening. Iconic. ANd Sue? Perfection. I lovee that the villain is a cheerleading coach. Lowkey I love media about things like ballet or cheerleading etc that are ‘girly’ sports but go into how hella intense and difficult they are. And also omg the ‘Cheerios’ so iconic. (also lol where’s Quinn?)

Aww look at lil baby face Kurt! I already have my whole fashion analysis thing but I’ll say it again, a lot of his outfits are pretty lowkey? Ooh a turtleneck? A jacket that’s... a colour?? Like obvs he looks great, but still. Def an Ohio during 200s thing bc can only wear flannel and jeans, idk (I should point out I’m not american and know nothing lol).

Also, what an intro to Kurt. Interesting how we only see fear in his eyes when Will approaches? To his bullies he’s all defiant/calm. Maybe he knows if they get in trouble, he’s in more trouble? And damn, Will, how can you be so dumb. I just- oof. And like, he knows Kurt’s name (in 2009 we see that Emma didn’t know him) so surely Will knows this is anything but friendly?

And lowkey I love the jacket scene. Kurt is v resigned to his fate. We learn later that he was in a dark place at this time, but hell if he lets any of it show. S1 is def Kurt at his most ‘emotional’ but even still he has it locked up.

Gonna move on from this scene, but also love the intro to Finn here? He let’s Kurt take off jacket, he watches but doesn’t do actual dumpster tossing, and there’s that lingering shot on his face that he def has guilt.

The Icon. 

First off, love his audition, great song choice (thank you Mercedes for the help). I know it was also Chris’ audition which makes it even better. And what I love is how it’s so Kurt but still not? The sass, the hair flip, perfect. But also, we know what Kurt will become, with the costumes and props and the hip swivels. Here, he’s legit just standing and singing bc he’s still baby Kurt and he’s not quite confident yet and this might be his first real ‘performance’ in front of someone. 

And omg how young he is and you can hear that he has the range, but he’s def not trained so it’ll be nice to track his progress as Chris practices more, gets more comfortable singing.

Lowkey, I would’ve loved to have Kurt s3-6 sing this song again. Just to see how much he’s grown and I’m so curious how a better trained Kurt would perform it. This is sang v sassily, but based on how the og song was intended, it would be interesting to hear him sing this with that fed up/frustrated intensity, like Rose’s Turn.

Lol I love this so much. Later on Kurt is just such a performer it’s fun to see him at the start, as the awkward and nervous lil bean. And we see the start of how he’s just so not down for close contact with people.

Jokes aside tho, they do sound pretty good during the song? Would love a full version of the song tbh.

Barely 10 min in and Kurt is already done with the Rachel drama lol. He’s def not as snarky this ep, prob trying to figure out the vibes of glee club, see what everyone’s deal is.

Omg Rachel don’t touch the hair.  Also, this scene is the first “Hell to the no” love it.

I’ve already discussed this... outfit, but anyway. I do find it interesting how Kurt barely speaks for most of the ep. He’s still in the shy, awkward mode and as we learn later this is like, his first time attempting to make friends since who knows when. Considering how snarky he becomes, it’s fun to see this softer, sweeter version. But we know he’s so much more.

Also, love how background of dialogue Rachel is legit just staring at Finn intensely the whole time omg

Yeah, Kurt, that’s be my reaction to VA too. Apparently the VA dancers would always get injuries and... i believe it. Tbh, if ND had faced them at their prime, even in s3, not sure they really would’ve won bc. Omg. I just love this show and how it’s a Musical but also chaotic and dramatic and so far the only thing that’s come close to filling the void is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Imagine being Kurt, forced by your dad to join a club, you find one with singing yay! But club has Rachel in it. and the competition is a bunch of showchoir robots. and then the teacher quits. Like no, Kurt doesn’t have another club/team to join!

Also, love how emotional Will is when he’s known these kids maybe a week and taught them nothing. It’s very clear this is all about him reliving his glory days, living vicariously through Finn. Ugh. Anyway...

And sassy!Kurt has entered the chat! I think by now, him and Mercedes have started to click so we’ll see him get more comfortable. No more shy, sweet Kurt. I mean, he’s still sweet, but he’s also a lil shit lol. 

I love s1 Kurt having zero patience for Rachel and oof, Kurtcedes was so amazing and I’m so sad it faded out later.

And this scene like. We know Kurt was already crushing on Finn by this point, but still he calls him out on the shit he pulled. I do need the story about nailing furniture to the roof bc what? How? When? How did Burt not know??? And pee balloons.. the logistics... gonna casually ignore that.

Also remember when Mercedes made her own outfits and was in charge of costumes hahaha. Also, Finn gives tasks to Artie, Mercedes, Rachel, even acknowledges Tina. What about Kurt?? Could’ve at least done a “Kurt, Mercedes, can you do costumes?” Idk just... wow, Finn

Ah, Don’t Stop Believing. Version 1.

Yeah it’s cute, it’s sweet. It’s the pilot, first learning how to perform. I will say, I like later versions better? I just prefer group numbers where they all get to sing, showing off all the voices. Esp in showchoir where there’s a group of people singing, instead of just backup for the Finchel show. 

But anyway, still great, Kurt breaks out the shoulder shimmy very early on, wow. And so ends an amazing pilot. I legit love all these characters (even Rachel tbh. Later plotlines I’ll discuss later, but here I kinda like how she’s the worst but the second she sees finn she’s all moony eyed omg)

And tension high with Puck and Sue watching, just. Excited for more...

s8, sons of garmadon, is when the animation change happens as well as lloyd’s va change and it’s off putting at first, but the change in voice was necessary and i love both jillian and sam as lloyd!

s10, march of the oni, is a four episode season, episode three “the fall” (aka episode 97 of the entire show) will hurt you. i still cry when i watch it.

s11, secrets of the forbidden spinjitzu, marks the start of the “new series” where ninjago episodes are now split into eleven minute episodes! it’s really weird and tbh s11 isn’t my favorite season either, but s12, prime empire, is INCREDIBLE! definitely one of my favorite seasons, actually! oh and s11 is also split in two chapters: fire and ice!

Sasha: Dead or Alive?

So I know I’m not a big figure of TMA theories, not even close, but I’d like to put my thoughts in one place and if you feel like reading a bit of narrative analysis of a very well written series then please, suit yourself. And of course, Spoilers ahead.

So, Sasha. With all that’s been happening in this season one gets the feeling that not only is her memory that is getting a lot of narrative attention but also her position. Now, I’m aware and even participated in theories regarding the possibility of characters in our story coming and going, knowingly or not, in and out of different universes and I’m sure that will have it’s own narrative pay off. But I want to focus a bit more on what we have right here and now. So I’m going to name all the points I think the story and narrative has given us thus far to believe our dear Almost Archivist could be either dead or alive. Bear in mind I am not that good at checking the many little details and much of this could be more gut feeling than precise data, but I’m listening to the podcast for the third time now and I feel like I have enough points to make a statement(pun very much intended) on the case. But if you want to provide more evidence feel free to do so! I am very much inviting discourse on the matter. Without further adieu, let's get to the point/s.

Alive:

Sasha’s initial role was a bit more heavy in the story. However given that her VA couldn’t keep working due to her own schedule they resorted to giving said role to Tim. You can see this change in narrative in the fact that Tim’s VA had to adapt a bit. Not only is he a producer of the show but now a very important character who was originally going to be the first tragic Death of the series, and now has to adapt his acting to a character that is scarred by the events that haunt him. Which he did marvelously btw. And with the tape presented in the second episode of this season you can see how they're adjusting the narrative to fit his tragic past and Sasha’s importance to the Archive. Hell when I was listening to S1 ending I was convinced Tim or Martin were going to be the victims of the attack. Narratively it all pointed to Sasha being the powerhose of the group. Which made it all the more hurtful when she was taken.

Speaking of said tape, in there she talks about how who you are is what you do and what you show to other people. She specially mentions Masks. Which if you paid attention to MAG 165 is kind of the whole theme. Faces being changed and with that memories, people, personalities. Maybe, as it’s been pointed out, she was not killed but was robbed of her face and she’s been wondering about, without even knowing who she is.

And on THAT regard we can look at what Not!Sasha said. She took her life. If you were to take this at face value (again, pun intended) it would mean literally killing her. But let’s think about that for a second. What the Not!Them does is take the lives of the people they attack. They put themselves in their place and change enough of R E A L I TY to fit themselves in. Photographs, memories, clothes, everything adapts to them, save for a few things, enough to make someone paranoid and afraid of them. Even Gertrude herself mentions how it is that they always seem to miss someone but I think it is rather the point that they do. If no one is aware of this supernatural identity theft then who is left to scare? Going back to our original point, what if Not!Them doesn’t kill their victims but instead take their lives? As in, everything else except killing them. There is also this proposal that every entity or at least many of them have their own dimension or pocket dimension. The Lonely has its misty shore, The Vast literally just casts you into an endless sky or the void of space, The Spiral has The Distortion trapping people inside of their halls, you get it. This leads to our next point.

This strange carrousel that appears as the Nightmare of many people fearing The Stranger gave us three very interesting bits of information to chew on: One, it shows what many people have theorized would be The Stranger’s or at least Not!Them's dimension. People who do not know who they are and are desperately trying to find out, even stealing other peoples faces, memories, names...their lives. Two, not only that but the creature that is controlling this IS Not!Them, Martin even calls them “It’s Goddess”, and mentions how it must have full control over it. Third, Jon rode one of these a few years ago. No this is not important to our conversation (I think) but I WILL chew on it because I love this adorable man and I wish I was as brave as him to get on a carousel at my age (25) because I’d love it. Anyway, going back to our second bit of info: Not!Them is dead. In a delicious moment of revenge Jon destroyed them and Martin asks what would happen to this place without them? Well, maybe the people that were inside were freed, at least for a moment, maybe with enough time to remember or search for who they were?

This all could mean that not only is Sasha alive, granted having been in a horrifying Nightmare for YEARS now but it may also mean that she is also finally free. There’s still the theory of other universes and I like to play with it because not only would resolve some stuff that looks to be narratively incoherent(tho nothing definitive there) but it would also explain a lot regarding Jon’s shifting memories of the events of the series. Again I am not that versed in this topic to bring it into question.

Finally it would seem that the story is focusing a lot on Sasha as an important entity(yes, still intended) not just as a deceased character with a potential role but as one that still can and will bring change to the story.

So, we seem to have a lot of reasons given to us by the story and how it is being told to believe that yes, Sasha is alive and important to the story. And here comes the dreaded buts/s.

Dead:

The most important fact that I want to point out in this regard is that The Magnus Archives takes death very seriously. Not only death in the real world, brought by cruel beings and people, supernatural creatures and evil systems that send people to die and be killed by the interest of others. But as probably many of you know the writers and producers of the show want death to be important, to have weight in the story. Both Jon and Alex have said so in QAs and you can tell just by listening to the show. When a character dies, they stay dead. Death is final and even people that “cheat death” must pay a high price, usually living miserable “lives” killing other people or regretting their so called luck in avoiding their final destination. Death makes every character aware of the danger they are in and when it is granted so easily it is shown as the result of corrupted, sadistic people and monsters (cough police cough acab cough). Therefore, bringing back a character from the dead would feel cheap, it would take the weight out of the story. That is not to say they haven’t faked deaths before, Trevor is a good example, and you have an Avatar of The End very much alive-ish after having a Satellite dropped on him (Man I love this podcast) but the key difference, to me at least, is that Sasha was The First. The important character that we were sure either wouldn’t die because of plot armor or the aforementioned narrative importance she was given. But no, everybody can die, and that makes everyone afraid and wary of their actions.

It would also make Not!Them less scary, less imposing which would rob them of their position as a horrifying monster. We either knew or suspected that they had killed and surely replaced Sasha, now we feared for what might happen to the rest of the team. In the end, they were not only very much dangerous but also yes, they killed Sasha in a gruesome way, now maybe even do the same to Jon. You could argue that being trapped in that hellscape of The Stranger is an equally fearsome destiny, but at this point we´ve seen Jon disregard said dangers and literally rescue TWO people from TWO different nightmarish dimensions. Yes it is stated as the almost miracle that it is and it is important to show Jon’s improvement and growth but it also robs them of their weight. Not completely of course, but as long as Jon is around they aren’t that scary anymore, and given that he is our protagonist well, he is always around. There is also that beautiful scene in which he gets a very much earned revenge. If Sasha was not dead then it kind of loses its value.

Now I am going to cheat a little bit because here I am going to take our previous points and turn them on their heads inserting an “Alive” point here. You could argue that of course it still has value. They don’t know that Sasha is alive and technically neither do we, killing Sasha or not this monster definitely tortured our crew and this is a well earned punishment. Plus it is very well written and presented. You could even make a point that, with the death of Not!Sasha comes the revival of Actual!Sasha. And getting this far after so many real deaths it could even make sense to have one narrative rebirth of a character that was robbed of her chance of glory. Which can fit in this established narrative of:”She could have been The Archivist! The Protagonist”.

And here comes the but: What if this is not about Sasha but instead Other!Sasha? Remember when I said I wasn’t going to take into consideration theories regarding parallel universes? Well I might have lied a little bit. You see, from the moment Jon played Gertrude’s tape regarding her successor I began to have this thought:”This is a theme of what ifs, of potential possibilities and different timelines”. Now, I have to say again that I’m not an expert on this topic, this is more of an analysis of what I think or feel I’m seeing the narrative of this season is heading towards. Maybe there is an alternative reality, with a different crew. One that might sound like our dear Archival Buddies but are actually very much different. On the surface, their masks if you will, they are our Sasha, our Tim, our Martin, but once we get to know them, to know about them, they are different people. There is this theory that the house cleaner that got trapped by the house on Hilltop Road is an alternative version of the nurse that worked close to said house. She mentions how her friends are different, how they almost don’t recognize her. But I mean, they didn’t reject her, they even helped her and recommended her that she make a statement at The Magnus Institute. What if there is another Sasha, but not quite the one we’d want. And even if Sasha was alive, if we disregarded all of this, what kind of person would she be after everything that's happened to her?

I’m not sure I can give you a conclusion here. We are after all barely in episode five of this 40 episode season and this might all be proven wrong next chapter, or the next, or all 35 that come after that, but I’ve seen many people talking about how they are completely sure that Sasha is definitely alive and kicking, and while I agree in many points I also have seen a lot of evidence, especially when it comes to the narrative, that would point to the contrary. It honestly crushes my heart to think that we have more than thirty weeks of content ahead of us and many people will keep the hope that this amazing character is still alive but would end up having said hopes utterly crushed by the end of it. But I can also see where you’re all coming from and can see why you would think that way, so I wanted to present what evidence and conjectures of my own I had on the topic. As always, I’m watching from the perspective of someone who has read the manga and webcomic. 

Right where we left off. Again I love the music. I’m just like, really calm right now actually. hhhhhhhhhhhokay. OOF oh god all the crunching sound effects oh no, this is already so weird watching Garou get his ass handed to him since he’s pretty much curb stomped every other hero in battle thus far, or at the VERY LEAST avoided taking so many hits. I.. I’m kind of at a loss for words. I’m. That’s it, huh? It’s really over. It doesn’t FEEL over. There’s so much unfinished business. Well, the only way to really neatly wrap everything up as neatly as S1 did would have been to get ALL THE WAY through the Garou arc, which obviously wasn’t going to happen, but this is not a great spot to leave off if we’re going to endure another few years hiatus. My hope is that, with biweekley manga updates, we should wrap up the Monster Association/Garou stuff (assuming it doesn’t diverge from the web comic too much) some time next year, and I’m HOPING that s3 is already being planned accordingly along side manga publications. So MAYBE it will at least be announced around that time 2020. That’s my wishful thinking at least. I don’t think I can survive 3 years. anyway

You could really tell JC Staff poured their hearts and souls into these last 2 episodes. Absolutely gorgeous, paced well, so completely satisfying and making every second of s2 worth while. For me, at least. I’ve already seen people still complaining and I’m just sorry they didn’t have as much fun as I did. 

Seriously, thank each and every one of you guys. This has been a wild ride, I’ve barely had this blog a few weeks before season 2 started airing (and honestly just got into opm maybe a month before that?), so I owe a lot of the success on the blog to the anime I bet. This was the first series I’ve never tried live bogging, and I honestly can’t believe that they were as popular as they were? Especially since I never have any idea what I’m doing but yall listen to me ramble anyway?? Yall are crazy thank you so so so much. Now my tuesdays are gonna feel really empty… next week is gonna be weird as hell. Though I’m gonna get mad nostalgic good vibes rewatching this season in the future in no small part from sharing my experience with everyone who's stuck around. I can’t say see yall next week this time, but, see you next season whenever it may be for sure.
