okay okay here’s a rough outline for the hypothetical fic, like 3/4 developed, in an order that makes sense narratively. it’s kind of a mess, because it’s bits and pieces of what I’ve talked about on my blog, but in a Narrative structure.
-
If I had the mental capacity I would write a whole TSP fic that gets severely meta and Stanley and the Curator are the only ones in on just how meta it is
I definitely wanna preface that this thing isnt a completely 100 percent developed story, its like. 70 percent? idk. but my thinking, or hunch, is that this whole thing started because the Player came back and did a Real Person run. it’s been a long, LONG time since they showed up, so when Suddenly Stanley isnt responding the the Narrator, the fellow cant inhabit his model and is forced to be a voice that run (after a long time of the pair of them by themselves, doing what they like), it shakes them both up pretty badly.
so the Narrator decides that since he can inhabit a model, he’s getting Stanley to that escape pod to get the hell out of dodge.
alone.
the narrator is not planning on coming with him.
and this…. doesnt go over well.
So a big theme about this whole story is the fear of abandonment. The Narrator is terrified of it, 432 has experienced it, Stanley feels like that’s what the Narrator is doing to him with the whole Escape Pod thing. (Stanley may also have some. unprocessed feelings abt the collectibles ending and epilogue.)
and this is all the Narrator’s fault btw. he made a bad decision early in the fic out of fear so he and Stanley have been dealing with that the ENTIRE TIME.
When the Narrator makes the decision to “let Stanley go”, Stanley doesn’t take it well, and 432 projects onto him pretty strongly–it’s hard not to! There’s a lot of overlap. That, plus the fact that the wheel has to keep turning, spurs 432 into action. He acts out in what he thinks is mutual anger both he and Stanley feel towards the Narrator.
They’re doing it because he’s projecting onto Stanley big time, under the assumption the Narrator made this protagonist and is now going to throw him aside and make a new one. This falls in line too closely with their memories.
Memories including a Narrator who wanted to make a big story about mind control and choice and freedom. Who jumped headfirst into a project that he only half-completed, because he got lazy and didn’t want to put all the work in, so he dumbed his story down.
Memories of half-finished NPCs disappearing and changing halls and a protagonist, designed to solve a mystery, instead becoming paranoid and disappearing.
432 is a sympathetic….. antagonist. not a villain lmao but an opposing force to the narrator in the sense they find the narrator to be lazy and probably stupid.
The narrator even describes himself pre-Parable as a person who got lazy, and made a character to make decisions for him, because decisions are complicated and difficult. He made the bucket instead of rewriting the game. he made a bunch of gags in the hope it would be a story.
As for 432… well. I think the narrator had initially planned a more complicated true ending. NPCs, a more complex storyline to figure out the mystery of mind control, and an inquisitive protagonist designed in game to be allowed the mental freedom to question. Documents and lore abt 432 show he was an exception for the mind control experiment.
But the narrator was finding this story and the choices too unwieldy. Making all these 2dimensional npcs, outlining this complicated storyline, he found it was not what he wanted. It was hard. So he cut it down a lot.
But 432 was not designed for this much simpler environment. The inquisitiveness turned to paranoia. The self awareness turned to game awareness. He knew what his role was but he didn’t fit it anymore, not the way the narrator needed him to.
And then he disappeared.
Did the narrator erase him? Did he find his own way to slip into the code? Who can say? But the narrator’s memory of 432 is fuzzy at best, and he made a new protagonist, one much simpler. One who wouldn’t ask hard questions unless prompted. One who simply desired happiness.
And then, of course, like any good protagonist, Stanley changed.
432 is, sadly, a lil bit of a hypocrite, because they too don’t want to go through making an entirely new video game. that’s hard. but, it also has to be said that it was not their job to make a video game, it was their job to be the protagonist. It was their job to play the game, again, and again. Keep the wheel turning.
they make the door to the skip button disappear. they make the door to the steam reviews, that they know will drive the narrator mad. they are the time keeper, and time between skip presses increases and increases.
but they bring the parable back, as well as push it “forward”.
the narrator is prone to fixate, get stuck, and not progress, without a protagonist. 432 knows this. when Stanley is frozen in the Skip, the narrator keeps playing and playing and playing it all over in his head until he decides to try to make decisions for himself again. even then, he cannot do it. he wants to play one more time.
the wheel must keep turning.
In truth, Stanley wants freedom. The narrator want Stanley to be free, but he also wants to tell his story, and I don’t think he INTENDED Stanley to become self aware and aware of the multiple endings and restarts, etc etc. I think he expected Stanley to be like a normal game protagonist, wiped clean, and it should be easy because Stanley is supposed to be a simple character.
432 on their part wants to keep the game functioning. He, like Stanley, became aware of his role of protagonist, but unlike Stanley, 432 doesn’t want freedom. 432 wants the loops. Wants the eternity. They’re right, the game is not a sacred thing that needs to be frozen in time. They want to play AND change.
They honestly would be the ideal protagonist for the narrator if he hadn’t goofed it so bad. or if they didn’t want to antagonize him so bad.
432 at one point becomes the storyteller, forcing Stanley and the Narrator to do the story, only “new and improved” (and the worst part is the story 432 makes IS more compelling than the narrator’s and it’s upsetting!!!)
I want to emphasize that 432 does not at any point harm a single character and is actually quite chill even as the antagonist. they LIKE stanley, and want to be friends with Stanley, even if there’s a lil bit of envy. it’s not Stanley’s fault they’re in this mess anyway.
they tell a compelling story about mind control, choices, abandonment and power grabbing. the story this parable SHOULD have been from the start.
they spend a lot of the time just telling Stanley a fun story about mind control and stuff (just to rub it in the Narrators face
and all the while they tell Stanley, just make whatever decision feels right. we’ll have fun with it. there’s always something new to learn.
they dont do anything to physically hurt the pair of them, but they consistently question Stanley’s choice to support the narrator after everything, and eventually he and Stanley make a bet that in a moment of high pressure the Narrator will/will not be able to make a decision. and if 432 wins they get to use Stanley’s model for a run.
and then they sabotage the choice to make the narrator so cripplingly scared of his choices that they win.
when 432 snags the model, he doesnt impersonate Stanley–he’s more interested in using Stanley’s face to taunt the narrator.
432 while in Stanley’s body (and Stanley has been made into a consciousness that’s just stuck in the museum for a run) just consistently makes the Narrator doubt that Stanley could ever really properly care about him, because the Narrator is a bad person, who can’t even make a choice when everything depends on it, and gosh, he really thinks Stanley could love him after everything?
the Narrator wont even let him leave the parable, despite having a body and being able to leave now! does he really think Stanley’s going to want to be with him forever?
no. they need to get back to the story. tell the story with me, narrator. this is all you’re good for.
so let’s just generally say that 432 gets to have a run in Stanley’s body more than once, and DOES give it back and only takes it when it’s been discussed beforehand (like the bet)
432 starts breaking Stanleys model pretty entirely unintentionally until the narrator desperately reminds them that they swore they wouldn’t hurt Stanley. They choose to end that run and their round with Stanleys body.
also there might have been a run where 432 puts the narrator through the skip button again. idk
So the Skip button is the most visceral example of this concept. (A theory is that 432 is the one that made the time between skips get longer and took the door away.) They’re doing this for catharsis. They’re doing it to emphasize this is how it feels.
it wouldn’t be a 1:1 experience of how we or Stanley experience the Skip button. The Narrator wouldn’t have the same rants, or the same reactions. his deterioration would be obvious through clothing, physical tics, stuff like that.
432 is immovable. At least until the reset, and Stanley is NOT HAPPY.
anyway when Stanley is booted out of the model entirely he doesn’t take it too well! it’s not a nice time being alone in the settings! but the curator, being able to see the entirety of the story and seeing this has gone WILDLY OFF TRACK, pulls his code out of the void and makes a copy of his model that she drops into the museum. it’s…. like it’s BETTER but it’s not GOOD. he’s pretty panicked about everything tbf.
uncertain as to if the Skip happens while he is in the Museum with the Curator, interacting with the comments, or if those happen the same run. the answer would change the specifics of how the run functions.
if he’s in the museum, than Stanley is aware of it. The Curator tells him it’s happening. for them, time moves the same way it would for the player, not for the Narrator.
If he’s dealing with the comments, then he’s probably on some level aware of it and is trying to prepare for the worst and the resolution. time passes for him equivalent to how it would pass for us the readers (like, update schedule wise. if it take a week for a new chapter, then he’d experience a week in the comments. only he wouldn’t have a full awareness of the time, bc that’s not really a thing in the void he’s working in.)
either way, he doesn’t have the power to stop it.
The Curator’s job is to oversee the Museum, and she knows the truth of the game, and the meta aspects. As the fic nears its climactic point, she’s the one who reveals this all to Stanley-
Diegetically, the narrator “created” the parable, the story, Stanley, 432, the skip button, etc etc. he’s a godlike entity who made a video game for the sake of art. He has full control of the parable, save for certain key moments.
Nondiegetically, a video game company named CrowsCrowsCrows made the video game called the Stanley parable, and hired kevan brighting to voice a character. The video game company developed every aspect and asset. The narrator is nothing more than a character.
And yet, diegetically, this is acknowledged in several places in story. The most obvious aspect is the Museum ending, though the Confusion ending is also a pretty big one. The new “bottom of the mind control facility” ending also acknowledges these developers who had to resolve the bug.
The clash between diegetic and non diegetic, the insertion of non diegetic into the diegetic, is one of the most beloved points of the game, since from its immediate loadin, the narrator (an aspect that is nondiegetic in most other stories that have one) is inserted into his own story. He’s breaking his own “in-story” consistency.
So you have a story within a story within a story. The narrators story/video game he is telling and trying to make, the story of the narrator clashing with Stanley/the player, and then the real world application of CrowsCrowsCrows making this video game abt all of it.
How fucking confusing is that? Me just trying to explain all of this as simply as possible. That’s why it’s been so hard to figure out how to talk about it. But all of this has to be covered for this next part to really make sense.
Because I’ve talked about how I think the implication is the narrator made 432 but then changed his story and 432 didn’t fit anymore, and this led to 432’s disappearance and their own condescension of him.
Memories which are, unfortunately, false. Because in the end, all of them are just a fiction. All of them are simply in a game made by Crows Crows Crows.
But by the time this finally gets out, 432’s sunk way too much anger and hurt into this. Doesn’t really feel like they can go back and still feels secondary. So they don’t intend to stop.
That they’re all just in someone else’s story, and always have been. Even she and the Narrator are not above Stanley, and never have been. She’s always protected that truth, and she only ever makes sure its assets stay safe–which is why when Stanley gets booted out of his model, she intervenes.
she sympathizes with all of them, but she doesn’t (can’t?) intervene, so she just watches and hopes.
and that one of these runs, Stanley would get to have a go at talking to the comments section of the fic. which would be integral to the climax and resolution of the fic.
me thinkin abt fic every night like '432 would be an incredible antagonist to write all they want is to show the narrator that they shouldnt have been left to the wayside so they go out of their way to prove they can make a better story than he can all while being not actually hostile but just an opposing force that makes stanley and the narrator doubt themselves and each other and at the end of the day 432's frustration is that they dont get to be a protagonist people know or care about and then of course the entire fic itself would get super meta because the curator would reveal the full meta narrative to stanley and then any fanfic comments and reactions would be something that he finds a way to share with 432 because 432 IS LOVED BY THE DANG WEBSITE' I am a massive sap every day of my life.
I think my own stubbornness is shouting “there has to be another option. there’s always another way” to the idea that the only way to beat the game is to not play. i think my brain keeps going back to the idea that the game is meant to be loved by its audience, because in its self awareness, if it can know it’s a loved thing, it knows it can be changed.
“to be loved is to be changed” “transformative nature of love” listen. Listen.
432, in the climax of the fic, learns about the audience/comments or the fic and realizes how absolutely adored they are and that they aren’t alone. They’re seen. And that is what they wanted and how they make peace and get closure.
Which would lead to them helping stanley and the narrator in their escape while making sure the parable still runs, because it has to
With the implication that they would do the story with the help of the audience from then on
Stanley and the Narrator escape the Parable after making arrangements with 432, who takes Stanley’s place as protagonist so the wheel can keep turning, and has the narrator tapes, but like I dont know how satisfied i am with that cos 432 by themself makes me sad but the curator does not want to narrate the whole game
but anyway 432 uses a Stanley model but tweaks it only a little
(you made it to the bottom of this post! Good Job, you did it! Good Job, you did it!)

Howdy!
Ive been on tumblr since 2012 but this is a new blog specifically for my current health journey.
Im honestly not a fan of tumblr much anymore or the internet in general. I really enjoyed going out and doing things in person until my body decided to stop functioning. I’m hoping to revamp my love of tumblr and be able to socialize from my bed.
Here are some things about me:
I am in my mid 20’s but typically get along well with people older than me
im transmasc/ non-binary /who cares? Is femboy a gender?
Im the fruitiest person you will ever meet
Im married but also polyam
Neurodivergent af
I am on EST time
I was raised Jewish and am still vaguely jewish but also kindof witchy. I AM NOT A ZIONIST LET ME MAKE THAT CLEAR. That shit is FUCKED.
I am diagnosed with too many mental health issues to list tbh but most recently i was diagnosed with Depersonalization Disorder which i feel encompasses all my things.
I am diagnosed with gastroparesis but its comorbid to an unknown autoimmune disease that we cant seem to figure out
I was previously living on my own but now live back with my parents which has been ROUGH
I was raised in a conservative family in a semi-rural area where I was one of the only people of color that i knew of so my entire cultural identity has been pretty whitewashed and i hold alot of trauma about it
I was formerly an aspiring art teacher and was teaching as an assistant teacher for kindergartners. It was something I really loved until i had to resign due to my health
Hobbies/interests
ART! what kind of art? ALL OF IT!
crafts ( yes different from art in my head)
Thrifting
I collect y2k nostalgia toys (mostly furbys and carebears but my collection is honestly so huge at this point i have alot)
Cozy video games but only whatever im currently fixated on
Social card games (think CAH except not CAH , i don’t like that one after playing it 5 billion times)
Plushies
Poetry ( pls ask to read them 👉🏻👈🏻)
The Twilight Saga but in a meme way (yes im a TSP ratty🐀 iykyk)
The office
Kirby but also any cute Nintendo character tbh
Things i will be posting
Chronic illness rants and vents
Chronic illness memes
i like to make mood boards alot ( if you send me your diagnosis or any type of theme i will probably say yes)
General inquiries such as “has anyone else had this shit happen?”
Positive updates when i find things that work
Updates on my latest “stuck at home” projects
Original poetry and artwork about chronic illness/pain
Quotes i relate to as a disabled person ( will credit)
Things that will not be happening
I wont be making a DNI list , im a leftist please use common sense
Please no minors, no offence im just old
I DO NOT subscribe to what I like to call “tumblr brain rot” let me explain!
I see alot of division on here that usually comes down to two different groups of people who use identities that aren’t “typical” and people who gatekeep a community and hate anyone who doesn’t align to their way of thinking. I WILL NOT be choosing sides in any of these arguments. I think that people should identify with whatever they want . I do not care how niche it is. HOWEVER, i am horrified by some of the commentary from people with niche identities that expect others to immediately understand that identity without giving anyone a chance to understand. Nobody can ever learn to accept something you wont help them understand. I am also a firm believer that people can change and grow. Canceling someone for unforgivable behavior is one thing. Canceling someone for an honest mistake gives me the ick. Please ask yourself “ is this a pattern of behavior or something they are working on?” before making a call out post. In fact maybe we shouldn’t make call out posts about people unless they are genuinely dangerous. If its discourse exclusive to tumblr please just keep me out of it.
Activism!
Yes! If youve made it this far then you know that beyond tumblr there are BIG problems out there that internet discourse unfortunately will not solve. Im a huge follower of many activist movements but here are the ones i most interact with.
Trans rights , especially the rights of trans children and destroying the stigma around trans people being inherently sexual and dangerous to children. ( as a former trans teacher who has been thoroughly harrassed even though i was excellent at my job i have had a bone to pick with these shitheads)
Queer/POC intersectionality , i often go to panels and discussions on this matter because it is deeply personal to me as a person of color with blue hair and pronouns. I have been made fun of all my life for not conforming to Hispanic stereotypes and doing things people consider “white liberal culture”. Fun fact: not all trans people look the same.
Disability rights but also Autism Acceptance, my wife is autistic and im adhd and also physically disabled. PEOPLE DESERVE ACCOMMODATIONS. Being in a relationship with an autistic person for many years has made me very very pissed on thier behalf and on behalf of anyone who functions differently. News flash: everyone deserves to have thier needs met and that includes needs you dont understand.
I will gladly attend pretty much ANY virtual event/meeting to support these causes. I am always available to speak on my personal experience or assist with public speaking. If its an in-person event please DM me to discuss if it’s possible for me physically and logistically. ( pls note that altho i do not support isreal that the events in Palestine really hit a rough spot for me mentally because my jewish family members gosupersayan if they catch me supporting Palestine. Sometimes im in the headspace for it but other times its really triggering to remember that ive been disowned by most of my family for it)
This is getting really long so im going to stop but im very extroverted so plz ask me things i need social interaction.

iswm x tsp au crossover dump dont mind me officer
i saw a writing prompt with a spaceship, an imaginary friend turned real, and an alien, and now i wanna combine the iswm brainrot with tsp brainrot but idk how
smth like: (note i did NOT proof read this and this is just me dumping a loose lore idea down, apologies to ppl who havent seen iswm) (also ill be using my captainsona for this just bc i need help visualising this au n why not use capn oz for it askjhd)
captain oz j unknown of the invincible ii. trapped within the confines of the wormhole and a dead and cold ship. no crewmates, no colonists.
he begins to scrape together materials to survive, raiding the food supply for meals, figuring out how to get some form of light around the dark hallways of the ship
imagining his head engineer hurt too much, imagining the other crew leads hurt just as much. so he begins to imagine someone new. someone who can banter with him, talk when he wanted to be enveloped in the deafening silence, be soft when he pictured all the dead bodies floating across the multiverse as a result of his carelessness, someone he can exist with.
and so. he comes up with something, a soothing british voice that interchanged from talking overhead as though from the ships speakers to being right in front of him, interacting with the world around him.
at some point, he thinks he really has gone crazy when he cant recall how his imaginary friend managed to do things he didnt imagine of, telling stories that he genuinely had no idea where it would go, and how he managed to pick up and use items in the ship
soon, his imaginary friend began weaving a tale for him to walk through, mind control rooms, warehouses, office buildings, still woefully empty but the yellow light of the candles around the ship made it feel like it had life of some kind.
eventually, the captain dies, alone, yet at least with the company of his imaginary friend to guide him.
the universe resets, or more rather, he gets taken into another universe, right at the precipice of when everything went to shit before.
he witnesses long forgotten crewmates live again, light on the ship that seemed almost blinding in comparison to the darkness before. and at some point, his imaginary friend slips from his mind.
he does end up meeting someone who reminded him of his old friend, but as he saw the quill he wrote in he knew that it was not him.
yet once the wormhole had vanished and what was left was him and his head engineer, the eternity of darkness he was once in seemed like a distant memory. a forgotten wisp of the past that he occasionally remembered whenever he gazed out into the ships halls during the night.
yet as preparations were made for the crew and colonists to finally make their way down into the new planet they will inhabit, the computer in all its digital glory, called out to him and the crew leads: ALERT, UNIDENTIFIED LIFEFORM ON THE SHIP.
the captain asked for a description, hoping it was just another alien visiting on behalf of the universal stability agency.
as the computer began to list off the entity's descriptions, the captains heart began to pace.
its got to be a trick, the universe liked to play tricks, he knew of it, perhaps it was just a coincidence that they were similar in presentation
yet as he ran to the location of the lifeform, a part of him hoped that it was his friend.
and incredibly, it was.
#ozzy rambles#ozzy ideas#tspud#iswm#the stanley parable ultra deluxe#in space with markiplier#writing i think#ficswin#kinda???#im just try dump my thoughts into an au forgive me#i just saw a writing prompt n wanted to manipulate it into an iswm tsp au#please ignore me this is just me wanting to combine two things i love

Uh I oh HI uh people keep tagging me in games /pos
TY @agent-calivide for the Song Game (is that what its called)! I don’t use Spotify so I cannot do the shuffle thing sadly 😔 however- I will sprinkle my wildly inconsistent music on you nonetheless
I will say, I have had really bad brainrot for the past few months, so these all have a TSP or IEYTD tie-in :]
1. This Side of Paradise - Coyote Theory If I were to make an animation of this it would have a winged person running towards the edge of cliff, besting their wings and nearly taking off. Once the drums drop out and the chorus starts, they’re in open air and soaring on an updraft. Once the drums return they’re back on the ground, nighttime this time, running to take off again with the starlight around them, but this time they’re more sure and take off easier. They can do loops in the air and truly soar. During the guitar solo part, they’re skimming the tops of trees and slowly going back towards the ground to do a half running half flying landing and they end up tumbling over and looking up at the moon, smile on their face. I plan to do this sometime, once I figure out how to draw/animate wings, like for a future college project or wip to add to my (albeit empty) portfolio.
2. rises the moon - Liana Flores ok so I’ve had major brainrot for my fic despite it pretty much existing as just a concept in my head and this song. this song is so. its so Handler comforting Phoenix because they are Not Okay after Death Engine
3. RISK, RISK, RISK! - Jhariah No consistency here, but this one is a) a banger and b) reminds me so much of Juniper. Him wanting a change, wanting more, gambling everything he has just to get just a little bit more and “put more behind [his] name”
4. The Lamp Is Low - Laurindo Almeida this is just so Yellow core to me I can’t explain it. Him with a glass of iced scotch in a cozy armchair reading a book with only a nearby lamp as lighting. Also he can’t sit normally /silly
5. Bleached - Video Days good god I’ve listened to this on repeat so many times. So many fictitious scenarios. It just screams Comfort Fic™️, it’s what I put on when I work on Down to Earth
6. Left Bank Two - The Noveltones I’ve accidentally left this on loop while doing homework. Also this is so Sheen core you cant change my mind. no thoughts going on in that head. Paint smears everywhere, little trails down hallways and smudges on door handles and whatnot
7. Notion - The Rare Occasions something about Phoenix looking back on their life and how they don’t just fear death; it’s a game. A window. If they die, oh well, at least they’re guaranteed to go out in a blaze of glory (“I see a window, a limit, to live it, or not at all”). Also them struggling with the weight of being The Phoenix when all they wanted to do was be a secret agent. secret (“Sure it’s a calming notion, perpetual in motion, but it’s not what you signed up for”)
8. Nuestra Canción - Monsieur Periné oh thank god one without a meaning /j its just such an upbeat and silly song !! :] v Cyan core to me, they’re silly like that. Like them and Yellow being on an upbeat walk when they find a flower field and drag him into it. dancing together all goofy bc they have 4 left feet between the two, just having a true day off. no stress. no worry. free from the pressure and able to just be light for a day. Things might not get better, but its the moment that counts
9. Debt Collector - Jhariah GOD I know it doesn’t really fit Cyan but this is such a Phoenix song. Like I see a lot with some kind of criminal background or something from before the EOD, and this just seems like Phoenix running from their past and memories. I will admit, I need to work on Cyan’s backstory, all I have so far is that they were a beginner car mechanic and chronic tinkerer
10. Whose Eye Is It Anyway??? - Jhariah ok this one started as a Phoenix song but now this is just so Broken Juniper to me. Him surviving Rising Phoenix and not even ranting or cursing or pleading with Phoenix, it’s just him venting about how it’s an eye for an eye and he got what he deserved but he didn’t deserve it. “This path of heart attacks is paved with folks who only gave their enemies what they had coming. I don’t know if it’s worth it // I’m reeling from all of the pain, I feel it making me insane” and, “Is it a knife or a lie? Is it in your back? Is it all I need? Is it all I have? Bring me the peace that I need so desperately?” yeah. I could go on but. this would be an essay and I am eepy
Keeping it going!! /nf @purple-to-my-tangerine and @eyesofrhodochrosite hiii hope yall dont mind the pings :]

I have returned again for more "tsp zombie au" please!
WAHOO
WIP Wednesday!
Welcome back to society~~
I want it to be like. A month after the initial breakout, when Stan finally stumbles back into some semblance of a working society, except its this tiny barricaded town in the middle of fuckall nowhere and the only communication with the outside world is through the singular radio tower thats malfunctioning and cant reach out that far. Maybe its in hillbilly county (fuck wait does britain have hillbillies) which is how theyve managed to stay relatively self sufficient thus far but things are already starting to break down
Those fuckin doomsday preppers man. Theyre good for short term immediate survival after apocalypse but once things settle down and fortifications are in place to keep the walking dead out, theyre fuckin useless. Homesteading skills anyone? No?
Stan gets in. somehow. Ppl gonna be suspicious of newcomers bc risk of infection but i need cha’boy to get integrated in the new group bc Nathaniel’s here! (god it feels weird calling him that but this is a human au fuckin hell Birdy GET IT TOGETHER anyways)
(I’m gonna keep calling him Nar bc I hate everything and typing out ‘’’’’Nathaniel’’’’’’ is too much for me)
ANYWAYS. Nar’s not got a clue what he’s doing and neither do I, need to figure out a better way for him to idk help manage this weird little town?? He’s just an audiobook guy, a radio guy, but somehow he’s found himself as de facto leader/morale support for these idiots. Maybe because he’s a vain asshole with a superiority complex. Idk.
#personal#wip wednesday#tsp#the stanley parable#tsp zombie au#my writing#UGH figuring out how im gonna translate all this to comic form is already giving me a headache but i have a VISION YOU SEE

Thinking about Stanley and the narrator and... yeah. It's so hard to explain their relationship but I love it. I keep thinking about the skip ending and the narrator being so scared of being on his own, and then Stanley ends up on his own and then he's free but there's NOTHING out there. And then he's back again in his office, and the narrator's back too, and everything's normal. Do you think Stanley remembers every loop? It's hard to say if the narrator does, but Stanley can't even say anything about it.
since stanley is a representation of the player (but is also his own person with how narrator differentiates the player "you" and stanley), i have a firm belief that he's really the only one who remembers all the loops.
there are times when narrator references certain runs and even affects them if youve already done it (broom closet, bucket (1000 bumpscosity), memoryzone), but of all the things he cant remember its when hes the victim of the run (story or ending but i like calling it run). i dont think ive heard him reference the adventure line, real person, and the zending in the 2013 tsp, and weve seen that he doesnt make any reference to the skip button in ultra deluxe either. of course hes not going to reference every other run and i may be assuming here buuuuut...
there is one bit of actual evidence for narrator forgetting runs. if you watch the epilogue of ultra deluxe and once stanley repeats the game, narrator has no clue whats going on and almost panics over it. so yeah its absolutely possible he doesnt remember other runs, though which ones is hard to tell. if you check the figley ending, it shows that he DOES remember past runs of where the figleys were. except for the pink room, which is another piece of evidence he forgets.
it gets really confusing when you think about how he remembers you the player. hes aware of the player but only in certain runs (whenever he says "you", hes talking to you). if this can be considered evidence of him forgetting and remembering, its debatable. but its interesting he only mentions the player when something stanley cant normally do happens. hes also actively hostile to the player. if he cant blame it on stanley, hell blame it on the player. he never holds himself accountable. if you check the skip button dialogue, he ALWAYS blames another party.
and the biggest evidence (arguably evidence cause its based on my interpretation but if my interpretation IS true then WOW) i found is somewhere in the skip button dialogue, narrator implies that he remembers his past stressful ends from 2013 tsp and starts refering the player to dump his angry spiel.
as for evidence that stanley the character remembers. theres the epilogue! it doesnt say if he remembers everything, but it does imply it. theres also the whole process of collecting figleys, which the character will need to remember in order to get them all. (very watsonian interpretation)
oh i actually have a theory that the reason we see stanley in the desert in the epilogue is because he used the skip button ending to leave the office. we know that the narrator is very much dead when you see that desert, so seeing stanley there makes you think.
i actually found this explanation somewhere that the way the world evovles in the skip buttom ending is figurative for the narrators imagination or head, the desert signifying as his absolute death cause its empty and devoid of life.
you can also consider their roles (or your role) in traditonal storytelling! narrator is the narrator, and hes an unreliable one. stanley is the protagonist, therefore the readers way of interpeting the world. the protagonist may not know everything, but the reader does. and since tsp's medium is not actually a traditionally written story and is instead a game, being a player helps stanley (this feels lile a watsonian interpretation too with a dash of fourth wall break lol)
#the stanley parable#this may or may not be bullshit#i havent even seen all the endings in ultra deluxe dhskhdjd#and ive forgotten most of 2013 tsp#BUT. yeah thats how i generally see them#sorry i rambled too much#i love this game

The Future You That You Least Suspect
The other night my teenage boys asked me what was on my mind (likely looking for material to make fun of me. Just kidding, they’re thoughtful kids).
Instead of trying to “kid proof” my thoughts or rush the conversation, I wrote them this letter. First, to explain that I’m consumed by how we think about and where we look for answers to the biggest questions of our time (listed below), and second, to propose an alternative way of finding answers (hint: I found inspiration in an amoeba).
How are we going to address climate change before it creates global chaos?
What jobs will be available for my kids when they finish school? What should they study?
Over the next few decades, how will we re-train ourselves fast enough — again and again — to remain employed and useful as technology becomes more capable?
Can the human race cooperate well enough to solve our biggest problems or will the future simply overwhelm us?
Most importantly, where do we look to find answers to these questions?
Hopefully I didn’t ruin the possibility that my kids will ever again ask me what’s on my mind 🙂
##
Boys,
There is an old joke where a man is looking for his keys under a street light. Another person walks by and inquires, “Sir, are you certain you lost your keys here?”
“No” the man replies, “I lost them across the street.”
Confused, the stranger says, “Then why are you looking here?”
The man responded, “The light is much brighter here!”

This comic is as humorous as it is true. All too often, we each do this when we’re trying to solve something. It’s where our brains naturally take us first.
Our imaginations are constrained to the familiar (under the light), so we have a hard time finding answers to difficult questions and problems because the answers often lie in the unknown (or in the comic above, the darkness). Staying in the light is natural, easy, and intuitive, but this limits our discovery potential.
I. How to look in the dark?
History can give us some hints about how others found interesting things in the dark. For example, we discovered that:
the sun is the center of our planetary swarm
the earth is round
the physical world is a bunch of tiny, uncertain pieces governed by quantum physics
Before these became accepted truths, they were very difficult to imagine. This is part because they are non-obvious and also counter-intuitive to our everyday experience.
It’s also because we can’t know what is not known, which means we’re blind to what is yet to be discovered. Don’t believe me? Try to think of something you don’t already know. It’s impossible! That is, until you know it, and then it’s obvious.
Going back to the 5th question, how and where can we look today to find new unknowns (the dark) that help us solve our biggest problems? Where are today’s insights that are equivalent to the sun is the center of our planetary swarm?
I think the most exciting and consequential place to explore is not looking outside ourselves, but looking inside; in our own minds. This is where I see the most fruitful answers to the questions about your future and mine.
What if the next reality busting revolution happened to our very reality and consciousness? And if that happened, could the future of being human be entirely unrecognizable from our vantage point today? I hope so, because the answers to our challenges don’t appear under the lights we have turned on so far.
You’re probably thinking, c’mon Dad, this is crazy talk.
Well, it’s happened before.
II. Thanks Homo Erectus, We’ll Take it From Here
Our ancestor Homo erectus lived two million years ago and wasn’t equipped with our kinds of languages, abstractions, or technology. Homo erectus was possibly an inflexible learner as evidenced by the fact that they made the same axe for over 1 million years.
Imagine trying to explain to Homo erectus a complex phenomena of our modern day society, such as the stock market. You’d have to explain capitalism, economics, math, money, computers, and corporations — after extensive language training and the inevitable discussion of new axe design possibilities (of course, trying not to offend).
The supporting technological, cultural, and legal layers that enable the stock market to exist are the engines and evidence of our prosperity. It’s taken us thousands of years to develop this collective intellectual complexity. The point is, our brains are incredibly capable of evolving and adapting to new and more complicated things.
That our cognition evolved from Homo erectus demonstrates that we have radically evolved before.
III. Amoeba, You’re So Smart!
A few months ago, Japanese researchers demonstrated that an amoeba, a single-celled organism, was able to find near optimal solutions to the following question:
Given a list of cities and the distances between each pair of cities, what is the shortest possible route a salesperson could take that visits each city only once and returns to the origin city? (image credit)
This is known as the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP), and classified as an NP-hard problem because the time needed to solve it grows exponentially as the number of cities increases.
Humans can come up with near optimal solutions using various heuristics and computers can execute algorithms to solve the problem using their processing power.
However, what’s unique is that Masashi Aono and his team demonstrated that the amoeba’s solution to the TSP is completely different than the way humans or computers have traditionally solved it.
That’s right, this amoeba is flexing on us.
(Note: it’s worth reading about the clever way they set up the experiment to allow the amoeba to solve the problem.)
This got me thinking: when we’re confronted with a problem, we use the tools at our disposal. For example, we can think, do math, or program a computer to solve it.
Professor Aono found a different tool for problem solving: a single-celled organism.
I know what you’re thinking, can the amoeba do my homework or take tests for me? It’s a good question!
Also, kudos to Aono and his team for searching in the dark — this experiment is non-obvious.
IV. Why Am I Telling You About Amoebas?
I strongly believe that we need a major cognitive revolution if we are to solve the global challenges we face. Our species evolved before and we can do it again, but we can’t wait a million years; we must accelerate this evolution.
What I’m saying is very hard to understand and imagine, because it’s in the dark. But bare with me.
The amoeba gives me hope because it didn’t evolve to solve the TSP. We augmented it with technology to accomplish something pretty amazing. Similarly, we haven’t evolved to deal with cooperating on a global scale, battle an invisible gas that warms our planet or retraining our brains every few years as AI takes over more of our work. How can we augment our own minds to allow us to take on these challenges?
Imagine a scenario where you are dressed head-to-toe in haptics (think Ready Player One) that allow you to experience and understand things by feeling changes in vibrations, temperature, and pressure.
Also imagine that you have a brain interface capable of both reading out neural activity and “writing” to your brain — meaning that certain communications can be sent directly into to your brain — the kind of stuff I’m building at Kernel.
Let’s call this a mind/body/machine interface (MBMI). It would basically wire you up to be like the amoeba in the experiment.
Now, what if you were given certain problems, such as the TSP, that your conscious and subconscious mind started working to solve? Imagine that instead of “thinking” about the problem, you just let your brain figure things out on it’s own — like riding a bike.
Would you come up with novel solutions not previously identified by any other person, computer or amoeba?
If we actually had the technology to reimagine how our brains work, over time, I bet that we’d get really good at it and be surprised with all the new things we can do and come up with. To be clear, this is not just “getting smarter” by today’s standards, this is about using our brains in entirely new ways.
Maybe that means that your school today would be in the museum of the future.
People would likely use these MBMIs to invent and discover, solve disagreements, create new art and music, learn new skills, improve themselves in surprising ways and dozens of other things we can’t imagine now.
When thinking about the possibilities, hundreds of questions come to my mind. For example, could we:
minimize many of our less desirable proclivities, individually and collectively?
become more wise as a species?
come up with original solutions to climate change and other pressing problems?
accelerate the speed someone learns (i.e. you get a new kind of PhD at age 12 versus the average of 31 today)
I wonder, is this what you will do at your job in 20 years? Would your mind change so much that it would be hard to recognize your 15 year old self?
Ultimately, for our own survival, we are in a race against time. We need to identify the problems that pose the greatest risks and respond fast enough so that we avoid a zombie apocalypse situation. The most important variable to avoid that: we need to be able to adapt fast enough.
I’m sure at this moment you’re thinking, woah, Dad, calm down!!
V. Your New Job — Being Really Weird (in a good way)
You’re right in wondering what jobs computers will take — if not all of them. They’ll do the boring things that adults do to make money, except far better and for far less money. But imagine a scenario where AI relieves you of 75% of your current day-to-day responsibilities, and is much better at doing those things than you. (I imagined what this world could look like)
A lot has been written, even movies made, about this scenario (e.g.Wall-E). If this happened, would you play fully immersive video games all day? Or live a life of pleasure and be work-free? Certainly possible, although those are linear extrapolations of what we are familiar with today — meaning that’s simply taking what we know today and mapping it into the future. The same thing as looking in the light.
What if millions or even billions of people could build careers by exploring new frontiers of reality and consciousness powered by MBMIs? These types of “weird” thought exercises may be breadcrumbs that extend the considerations we’re willing to make when thinking about our collective cognitive future.
These may be the starter tools that empower us to become Old Worldexplorers setting out for the New World, and journeying on the most exciting and consequential endeavor in human history — an expedition, inward, to discover ourselves.
Dad

1 part Coconut oil + 2 parts chocolate = That magic syrup that hardens when u pour it on ice cream
Unscented stick deodorant cures razor burn
Wash cuts then use alcohol or iodine, washing gets out the dirt that alcohol can’t disinfect
this is going to be really long and require multiple parts so if you want to see it all
air plants and spanish moss are even easier to take care of than cacti. just mist daily or every other day. plus they look really cool.
never use regular glitter on your face, use cosmetic glitter, regular can scratch your eyes and thin skin. don’t go blind for beauty.
Half assing is always better than not assing. especially with work. a shit grade or late grade lowers your average less than no grade.
Everyone should have a heated pillow, so nice when u can’t quite get your room the right temperature.
duvets are amazing. especially the heavy ikea ones that smell like nostalgia.
keep a recipe book, write down or print your favorite recipes small and keep them in one of those binders meant for pokemon cards. Great for when you dont know what to cook.
get a book or something to put on your lap when you use a laptop. you can permanently damage your skin by leaving a hot laptop on you.
nut butter + anything is more or less a meal as long as you use enough of it.
add cut up veg to ur ramen for immediate improvement.
internet explorer is often able to get past impero and those sort of programs that bosses or schools use to block access to things, if not, then try PingVPN but make sure it’s not something you can get fired/detention for because it sometimes is
the site to make ẗ̡̠̠͈̠̒h̗̜̻͂̾ͮͣͦͅi̹̻ͦͤ̈̑̌̽ͣsͫ́ͪͭͭͪ̅͏̠ ̗̼͖͓͈f̞͓̩ͯ̒ô̯̪͑̇͌͆n̶̹̠̞̻ͭͨ̓ͤ͊ͮt̡͕̞ͫ̏̊͗ is here http://www.eeemo.net/
Ghostery is one of the best ad/spam/popup blockers out there
if you cant push back your cuticles, put lip balm on them wait a minute and its easy as pie
on the subject of pie its easy to make you just need puff pastry and some pie filling and you bake it
forests are amazing for stress and confusion and general life disasters, running out into the forest and not coming back in for hours has saved my life literally and metaphorically, like hiding from your problems in your room but theres birds and fresh air and sometimes a person walking a cute dog
did you know if you pull up a cattail (the reed with the brown corndog looking thing on top) and strip the stem down like shucking corn the fleshy green part inside the base is edible and it tastes like celery so yeah if youre dying in the wilderness corndog celery might save you
everyone should have duct tape in their home, fixing things, making things its great even astronauts use it
always keep bandaids on you, you never have them when you need them so in theory if you always have them...
to get dried acrylic paint off the floor (assuming your floor wont be ruined by water) wet a cloth and leave it on the spot for an hour or two, it should come off with gentle rubbing
use concealer around the outside edges of your lips to make your lipstick look really smooth and professional blend it away from lips
get creative with makeup! no point being boring on your own time when you can make it fun! add glitter! fake jewels! bright colors! make the wings so big you can fly away from your problems!
hair removal cream is way easier than shaving your legs when you have the time to wait for it to work
One way to avoid procrastination is to exhaust all possible sources of procrastination before you get started on productive things. then you can get in the zone and work more efficiently.
luster dust is basically the same thing as highlighter, i discovered this during a baking disaster.
gel nails are great to stop you from biting your nails
pets help anxiety so much they really do if you deal with this and are considering a pet just get the pet i swear it will help so much
candles are better than febreeze
Horses are assholes, don’t trust those long nose fuckers.
You should totally paint your room. a lot of trouble but so worth it.
Part 2 to follow, go forth and be somewhat successful
