ONE.
The sun has started to dip, gold strokes across the pearly white decor. Around you are guests and heightened murmurs. Of course they're excited: it's Max Verstappen's wedding. A world champion among the greats.
You're still standing there, left by a few guests who wanted to offer their thoughts on your music. Their words were kind and well-meaning, but all they did was remind you of how queer it was. That you were at Max and Kelly's wedding. Sweat beads pile on your forehead, threatening to ruin your makeup; the dress feels heavy, too heavy. It might suffocate you. You straighten your back and take a deep breath. Breathe in, breathe out.
"You came."
Max's voice is low and hesitant, but it easily breaks through your train of thought. His words are just placed out there, like he's not sure if he has a right to say them at all. They sit there in front of you, an ache, a question.
There's a knot in your stomach. This was a bad idea.
"Kelly invited me." Your voice is steady, yet it sounds distant. Like someone else is speaking your lines for you, making things alright. You don't want to be here anymore. Not like this. "What did you expect? That I wouldn't show up?"
Max's hand trembles. He wants to step closer, you think. But he can't. Not like this. Not now.
"I didn't know if...you'd want to see me," he stammers.
You stiffen at his words, remembering the clear boundaries between the two of you. The paparazzi aren't here: it's a private event, at his insistence. But there are others, others who are watching and listening Max Verstappen talk to the girl who wrote an album of songs about the love she could not return him.
A sharp breath escapes your lips. You don't want to deal with this. Not now, when you're both standing on the brink of something final.
"Max, this is Kelly's wedding." Your voice hardens. "Your wedding. She’s about to marry you. So whatever you think this is—whatever it was—it doesn’t matter anymore."
Max looks at you, his jaw tightening. An old habit, you remember, as he chews back the words he can't say aloud. A part of you wants to reach out to touch his face.
It's up to you, as it always has been. He wants to say something, to reach for the words that will make you understand, but he knows it’s too late for that. The realization dawns on his eyes. The past is too tangled, too complicated. And Kelly is waiting for him to be by her side.
"I never meant for things to end like this." His voice cracks slightly, and it’s clear that the weight of your history is crushing him. He takes another step forward, almost against his will. "I asked for too much. I'm sorry I hurt you."
The silence between you two feels thick, stretching longer than it should. Max’s eyes soften at your words, but you can see the hesitation in him, the part of him that wishes he could do more, be more for you. Enough.
And it hurts in a way that you don’t want to admit. Not here, not now.
You should walk away. This conversation isn’t for this moment. But you can’t move. Your feet are cemented to the ground, and Max is standing too close.
"I just... I miss you," he whispers, his voice breaking under the weight of the noose he's never fully escaped.
A shiver runs down your spine at how raw his voice is. Your chest tightens.
There it is. That thing you’d been trying to ignore. You miss him too. In ways that make no sense when you look at him, standing there, about to tie his life to someone else.
You wish things were different. You wish that you could let yourself feel what he’s offering. You’ve wondered, countless times, if you made the wrong choice. If you had let yourself fall, would it have been easier? Or would it have just destroyed you both in the end?
Max shifts his weight, his gaze never leaving yours, and you can see the uncertainty in his eyes, the hope flickering there like it might ignite. It almost makes you want to step forward.
Almost.
But you know better. You can't.
"I..." You swallow, your voice rough. The words scatch in your throat. "I can’t do this, Max. Not now."
His face falls.
You hate that you’re creating this distance, but you have to. It’s the only way to stop both of you from falling back into this mess you've never cleaned up. Writing your songs was supposed to help and it only worsened your what-ifs.
You force yourself to breathe again. "You're about to marry Kelly. You can’t look back at me now, Max."
A long silence hangs between you two. Max opens his mouth, but nothing comes out. You know the truth. Sure, you've asked yourself if your intuition was right. But you know. You’ve always known.
You can barely hear him when he lands the last blow. "I never stopped loving you."
It's too real. He's struggling and you can hear it in his voice. This was a bad idea. This is his wedding. You can feel your walls crumbling at his words, the things you’ve buried beneath the surface shaking loose, but you push it all back down. You have to.
"Don't," your voice cracks. You can't hear anything but your own words and your heartbeat. "Please don't."
The two of you stand there. Life keeps moving forward, people laughing, and you think the piano is going to start soon. It's going to mark Kelly's entrance. And Kelly's entrance it is, into Max's life. For good.
For good.
You have to walk away.
And you take that first step back, away from your first friend. The first thing in your life that fit like it was made for you; never to be broken apart.
It still doesn’t stop the ache in your chest, but it's the right thing.
Max breathes in behind you, such a staggered sound it could be a plea for help.
You move toward your seat, hoping he will not look upon this moment too badly. That one day, in the future, his anger will have left him and he will realize this was your last act of love: to help him, even when it means breaking his heart a little bit more.

f1gossipofficial: Lewis Hamilton was spotted this weekend in Monaco hanging out with Y/N L/N. They collaborated on Y/N's debut album, even sharing a kiss in the music video for "toxic to the end." Is a romance brewing? And how does Max Verstappen feel about all this?

Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet calling it quits.
You might call me insane. You might say nothing official is out, but I think this might be true. As of October 2025:
Kelly unpinned both the pregnancy and the marriage announcement on her account. This is odd: she's had both up there since she made the posts. It probably isn't a matter of her clearing her feed or anything, because her Vogue shoot is still pinned. I looked for the post on her account and it was GONE. I looked for the pregnancy post on Max's account and she was no longer listed as a collaborator. Max was never a collaborator on the marriage announcement.
She's been posting a lot with P and the young 'un, but Max isn't in any of them. In his Team Redline streams, Max is always alone. Neither of his kids has appeared. Judging from the locations on her posts, she and her kids are on vacation in Europe.
Kelly wasn't at the last two Grand Prixes. She posted a story of her watching one on the couch but that was it. Neither of her kids were there, either.
Max has been posting more recently and he's been spending time with friends over family. Lando has him in a few dumps: playing paddle, Max even holding a guitar. Who plays guitar? Y/N L/N but that's not the point. Max is learning new hobbies and spending alone time.
I think I'm right. And if DeuxMoi has anything to say about a famous athlete/model couple filing for divorce, I'm placing my bets on Max and Kelly. Thoughts?
dannyric03: I don't want to believe it. He's so happy with the kids. Fatherhood suits him well.
↳ AppleBiter12: But fatherhood and marriage are different things. I thought maybe they got married because they thought the child would bring them closer. And it didn't.
hamiltons8th: I don't know. It seems debatable. Maybe they're just taking a break. It has been a stressful season so far.
↳ FantasyFox719: Right. But Max loves his kids, of course he'd want to spend time with him. I can't think of why he wouldn't spend his time between races (as he normally does) with his family instead of colleagues. ↳ hamiltons8th: @/FantasyFox719 Well him and Lando are best mates, something like that. I do think it's odd he's not with his kids. Maybe Kelly suggested it.
PeacockJazz450: Unrelated but did you see the news about Y/N and Lewis?
↳ hemsworthss: I did, actually. I think they're a very cute couple (if they're dating) that complement each other's personalies and goals very well. Lewis is very career-focused and so is Y/N. Love both of them lots. Even if they're friends I'm sure it's a great relationship. ↳ PeacockJazz450: @/hemsworthss Lol. I agree. Maybe Max crashed out after seeing that and decided he needed a break too 😂 There was this one tweet going around that was like "Imagine winning in Abu Dhabi 21 but losing the love of your life to the man you beat." ↳ hemsworthss: @/PeacockJazz450 Oh that's diabolical. Celebrity drama is bad enough but so many of the drivers are bops and their dating life is mildly concerning. Very interesting though. ↳ PeacockJazz450: @/hemsworthss At least Y/N hasn't dated anyone that we know of. I hope it folds out well.
ApplestoApples: if it's true that's such a shame. they've only been married for a year or so.
↳ 5_vettel: Agreed. But celebrity relationships never seem very stable.

TWO.
The crowd is still screaming as you scramble down the stairs, face flushed and out of breath. Sweat clings to your skin and your chest rises and falls, the adrenaline still coursing through you. Everything feels infinite, all the love shown out there drowning out your doubts and your past.
"Hell of a show you put out there, rockstar."
Lewis Hamilton leans against the table with your glass of water on it. His arms are crossed, an easy grin on his lips. He's dressed like he belongs here—which, admittedly, he now does.
He already knew about the concert: you couldn't wait to tell him when Bruno. Mars. Called. You. It wasn't exactly good timing, him just finishing the Mexico City Grand Prix the day before, but he came anyway. And dressed impeccably, at that.
You let out a breathy laugh, grabbing the glass. "You're just saying that because you got backstage treatment."
Lewis chuckles. "You know I mean it. You were unreal. When's the album coming out?"
"Hold on, hold on. Don't rush me. Give me a podium celebration first, will you?"
He tilts his head and you can't quite breathe. He says you were unreal but he's unreal. It still shakes you, sometime, how such a wonderful and caring and completely perfect man picked you to be his...friend.
You keep it at that word for now, but appreciate how good he looks with shades pushed back into his braids.
"Depends. You up for a champagne shower?"
Nothing flusters you like Lewis's quick wit.
You take a moment to gather your thoughts. "Not in this dress, I’m not."
Lewis chuckles, his gaze lingering on you for half a second longer than necessary. "Shame. Would’ve been a pretty memorable moment. We'll have to reschedule."
You're aware of how close he is. How the conversation feels lighter than it should. How his presence is grounding in a way you don’t often get anymore. Your thoughts are wandering again, eyes tracing the curve of his mouth and—
The air shifts.
It’s subtle, like a drop in temperature. Like something's pressing against your ribs. You feel the presence and you know exactly what it is.
(Or maybe it's the fact that your team has gone completely silent. No more hurried congratulations and squeals in the background.)
Max.
He’s standing just a few steps away, lacking his usual Red Bull gear. His hair is all messed up, as if he got off a plane and came straight here. His jaw is set, his hands shoved into his pockets, his eyes flicking between you and Lewis. There’s something there—something simmering behind that calculated look of his.
Your grip tightens on the water bottle.
"Didn’t expect to see you here, Max." Your voice is even, but it takes effort.
He exhales sharply, shifting his weight. "You think I'd miss this?"
The words are simple, but the matter is not.
Lewis, ever observant, stays exactly where he is—relaxed but present. "Didn’t know you were a fan of good music, mate." His voice is smooth. Yet deliberate. You can't do this right now. Why does he have to show up whenever things in your life are getting good?
Max’s gaze flickers to Lewis, and for a second, something almost like amusement tugs at the corner of his mouth before disappearing just as quickly. "I've been listening for years."
It lands heavier than it should. Your pulse jumps and both of them are probably aware of it. Max isn't talking about the music.
Max’s eyes stay on you, searching. "You didn't think I'd come, did you?"
You exhale carefully. "I didn't...invite you."
Max’s jaw tightens. "Well. Here I am."
It's too much. The weight of his words, the way Lewis is next to you—grounding, solid, present—and Max is just there looking like he's trying to figure out how everything slipped through his fingers.
The air between the three of you stretches, taut and fragile. Max’s words still hang there—Well. Here I am.
You shift under Max’s stare, your grip tightening on the water bottle still in your hand. Your throat feels dry.
"What do you want me to say, Max? That I expected you to come? That I thought about it?"
Max exhales sharply. It pierces you like a knife. "I don’t know. Maybe." His voice is lower now, almost bitter. "You never wanted to talk about it."
His voice is rough when he speaks again. "Tell me you don’t think about it."
You are acutely aware of Lewis's presence, but Max is slowly taking over your thoughts.
You inhale sharply. It's all you can do. "Max—"
"Tell me you don’t wonder."
Your throat tightens.
You do. You have.
Some nights when the lights are off and the city finally shuts itself up, you let yourself think about it. About him and the moment he kissed you. The way his voice cracked when he said your name.
But you also remember the fear. The way you couldn't have let yourself fold—not then.
And now?
Now, Lewis is here. Steady and patient in ways Max never was. Lewis, who has never asked you for anything more than what you could give, who doesn’t need you to be anything other than what you already are. Lewis, who will let himself be just a friend. Lewis...
You glance at Lewis instinctively. His expression is unreadable, but there’s something softer in the way he looks at you. He understands.
This, Max notices.
His jaw clenches, the vein in his neck jumping. His hands curl into fists at his sides and then relax so fast you could've missed it. Is it for show, all of this? Does he want you to think he cares or not? He exhales, looking away for a brief second. Just enough to compose himself. When he looks back, something about him is more guarded.
"Right," Max says, much quieter. He nods, more to himself than to you. "I get it."
But the problem is that you don’t think he does.
Despite everything, despite Lewis, despite the way you had chosen to walk away.
You still...
Max lets out a sharp laugh, shaking his head. "Right. Because it’s never the time, is it?"
Not this. You flinch, because he's right. You don't want to talk about it. How he kissed you, drunk but so eerily sober in the way all his thoughts came out at once. The weight of everything in between the two of you spilled over, something you weren't ready for. About how, even now, sometimes you catch yourself missing him before you remind yourself why you had to leave.
The fear is back.
Your whole life had began to shift, focusing on you. Y/N L/N, rising actress. People talked about you...and your friendship with Max. What it was. And if you had let yourself feel something for him—if you had let yourself fall—what would have been left of you?
"There was nothing to talk about," you say. It's hollow, like another word could crush it into smithereens.
Max's mouth purses into a thin line. "That’s bullshit. You know it."
You're too aware of the people in the room, again. The way Lewis is still there, watching but not interrupting, not yet. The way Max is standing too close, and yet not close enough.
You shake your head, only able to reiterate all the things you've already told him. "This isn't the time for this."
Lewis shifts beside you then, speaking for the first time in minutes. He's had enough. His voice is calm, smooth, but there’s something sharper beneath it. Water over rocks, threatening to split the waves any minute. "If you're looking for something from her, maybe you should ask yourself why you didn’t do it when it actually mattered."
Max turns to Lewis, his posture stiffening. There's a respect between the two, but spite typically taints it. Now? No malice—just frustration, just regret. Just something ugly and old between all of you.
You close your eyes for half a second, steadying yourself. When you open them, Max is looking at you again, waiting.
But he’s always been waiting, hasn't he?
And you?
You’ve always been running. From what? you wonder now. From something real?
Something has changed. Now you're not sure if you're tired of running or just afraid of what happens when you stop.

THREE.
The coffee shop is cozy, the kind of place you go when you want to be alone with your thoughts. You're sitting at a corner table, flipping through your phone. Doomscrolling, they call it.
It’s been a while since you last saw Max—months, maybe. His divorce from Kelly was all over the media, and yet, here you are, sitting in the same coffee shop as him. The silence is louder than any of the questions you had when the news first broke.
You didn’t expect to run into him today.
You'd also thought you were over all of it. Buried, deep down. But when his voice meets your ears, it's all coming back.
"You still like this place, huh?" Max sounds like he's been thinking about his question for a while.
Glancing up, surprise flickers across your face. "Max...didn't expect to see you here."
He stands there for a moment, hands stuffed in the pockets of his jacket. You feel the awkward tension rising like steam from your mug.
“You’re hard to avoid these days,” Max says, his words coming out almost casually. "Guess we keep bumping into each other."
You raise an eyebrow, setting your phone down. “We never really bumped into each other before.”
Max’s lips tighten for a moment. Caught. “No. I guess we haven't."
Neither of you move. Then, Max steps forward, hesitating just slightly before sitting across from you.
“Nice seeing you. Didn't expect it to be here."
You nod slowly, unsure of how to respond. "Yeah...well, things change."
Vulnerably flickers in his eyes. You haven't seen that in a while. "They do," he agrees.
It's unfinished, this mess between you.
"I know things got complicated," Max continues. "I shouldn't have pushed you. I didn't mean to make it worse but I did."
You want to say something—anything. But the words are stuck. Everything: the kiss, the distance, all the memories you've shared. They're all under the surface, waiting for someone to make sense of it all.
Instead, you try to find your footing. "Max...what are we even doing here?"
Something like the Max you used to know. He's less guarded, less distant. "I don't know. But I don't want things to be like this. No forever."
You swallow hard. You want to respond, but there's too much going on in your head.
Max breaks the silence. Again. This time, he's more quiet. "So, what about him? Lewis?"
The way he says it makes you wonder. Jealousy? Not that, he's past that. But it's a question wrapped in old pain. He wants to know. He always has.
You lean back in your chair, letting out a soft sigh. "What about him?"
Max’s eyes are searching. "You're...close. Do you, I don't know, care about him?"
The answer isn't as simple as either of you would like it to be. There's a part of you that wants to spill out all the feelings. That you don't know. Still don't.
"He's good to me. I don't know what else you want me to say."
It's not the answer he wants to hear, but he nods anyway. "Yeah, I get it."
The past is complicated, and the present is no less so. There's a peace with Lewis. But Max...Max has a way of making everything feel unresolved.
You bite your lip, unsure if you should talk more. You want to say something that makes sense, that will give both of you the closure you need. The truth is, there's too much unsaid. Unresolved. It's sitting there, loose strings and all.
"Maybe we never had the chance to figure it out. It wasn't just about what we felt, Max. It was everything else too."
His expression tightens. Like the words aren't forming right. The old ache is there in his words, in his face. They never healed. "I was an idiot, wasn't I?" he mutters.
You shake your head, not wanting to dwell on that when he's already beat himself up for half a decade. "We were both...confused. We had different things to figure out."
You can't place the look in his eyes. "Maybe. But I was never just confused about you. I was scared of losing it all. Of losing what we could've had."
It hits you in the chest. Then, the words come out before you can stop them. "Max...we shouldn't leave it like this. I don't want to leave it. Again."
"So what does that mean?" His voice is hopeful, though he has his doubts.
It won't be the same. That's impossible.
"I don't know. We'll have to figure it out." You hesitate before taking out your phone. "Maybe we can...talk more. Not lose touch again."
A smile breaks across his face, though he tries to hide it. "That sounds good. I'd like that."
── ⟢ ・⸝⸝
did you like this? i wanna make a part three. it's like...closure but not completely, you know? there's still a lot for them to deal with and also lewis! beautiful beautiful lewis! messy max or lovely lewis ? 🤨

I put this in the tags of something I reblogged recently, but I'm going to say it again: it is my firm opinion that fix-it fics where Jin Guangyao dies don't actually solve every problem, and therefore cannot be ideal fix-its.
It's explicitly stated in the novel (and at least implied in the live-action; I'm still only about three-quarters done with my rewatch so I can't say I remember everything 100 percent) that the jianghu was better off when JGY was the Chief Cultivator than it was before or after. No matter what you believe his motivations were, he demonstrably improved the lives of the common people, especially peasants and non-cultivators, assisted smaller sects who had few resources, and ushered in a golden age of peace and prosperity in the jianghu. Once Jin Guangshan died, JGY got rid of the demonic cultivators that his father had sponsored, cut down on corruption in the sect, and ruled in a benevolent and generous way, despite the prejudice against him due to the circumstances of his birth. It's pretty clear to me that JGY is the best option here. Plus, it gives the other characters the freedom to do what they want instead of shoving them into a role that's not suited to their personality or how they want to live their lives.
In a fix-it that's actually interested in creating a good outcome for everyone, JGY stays alive, but is not put into the situations he faces in canon where the only options are "do something horrible, or die." He doesn't want to be a bad guy - he just wants to be safe. A true fix-it gives him different choices, ones that don't result in danger or destruction; he's allowed to make decisions that end well for him and for everyone else involved.
Some things, I think, can't be avoided - at least, not without making a drastic change. It's extremely difficult, for example, to give NMJ a long life; he would have to be a totally different person, the lore around the Nie cultivation would have to be completely redone, or he would have to go through some kind of life-changing event that made him give up cultivation forever in order for that to happen. But the bad things that JGY does in canon, he only does because he feels like he has no other choice. He doesn't need to die in order to prevent him from doing those things - he just needs better options.

→ PAIRING : Med Student!Hoseok x F!Reader (Brother’s Best Friend AU)
→ RATING: Mature, 18+, suggestive tones.
→ DATE POSTED: January 30, 2025.
→ NARRATED AUDIO:
→ SUMMARY: You’ve spent four years convincing yourself that your brother’s best friend is just being nice when he remembers your coffee order, quizzes you on neuroanatomy, or lets his touch linger a second too long. Because there’s no way that the golden boy of Seoul National’s medical program might actually be flirting with you. Especially when he keeps saying things that could be perfectly innocent… if only he didn’t say them in that voice.
→ TAGS: second person perspective, female reader, medical school au, brother’s best friend trope, age gap (4 years), pining, touch starved, overthinking reader, confident hoseok, gentle dom hoseok, medical terminology as flirting (lmao), study sessions, domestic moments, innocent (but not really), plausible deniability king hoseok, anxiety, internal monologue, guilty crushes, subtle teasing, emotional edging, gentle manipulation, praise kink undertones, intellectual attraction, competency kink, hand fixation, voice kink, medical intern hoseok, first year med student reader, home setting, casual intimacy, unresolved sexual tension (for now), secret attraction, nervous rambling, self-doubt, intrusive thoughts, anatomy lessons with ulterior motives, competent hoseok, flustered reader, close proximity, accidental touches that aren’t accidents.
→ MASTERLIST | TAGLIST REQ | WORDCOUNT: 2.6k
→ A/N: So. Listen. I was out there, freezing my ass off at the bus stop, cursing my life choices because why am I even going to the gym at ungodly hours??? And then—THEN—the bus just had the audacity to drive right past me. Love that. Amazing. Naturally, I did what any rational person would do: opened my notes app and started writing instead of using those 45 minutes to, idk, reconsider my entire existence. And thus, Off-Labels was born. This drabble? It’s about the kind of man who is dangerous in the most insidious way—intelligent, competent, and hiding behind a veneer of plausible deniability like it’s a damn art form. You know he knows what he’s doing to you. You know he’s aware of the effect he has. But can you prove it? No. Because he’s just so nice. So helpful. So unintentionally devastating to your nervous system. It’s honestly sick and twisted and exactly my type. Am I a menace? Absolutely. First installment in what might become a series because apparently I can't stop writing about competent men in medical settings using anatomical terms as foreplay. Will I be taking criticism? Absolutely not. ❤️‍🩹🩺
Tumblr media
You don’t believe in stories like in books.
Sure, you like to read them—disappear into them, let them pull you under like a riptide until you forget about deadlines and midterms and the existential dread of being a twenty-something who still doesn’t know what they’re doing.
But that’s all they are.
Stories.
Fantasies about tragic, fated loves and brooding billionaires and dangerous men with wings. You like them because they’re not real. Because it’s fun to pretend, for a little while, that you’re the kind of girl who’s got a winged fae warrior at her feet. Or a CEO husband who calls her darling in an office with floor-to-ceiling windows. Or—God forbid—her hot math teacher, who lets her stay after class for extra lessons.
Or your brother’s best friend’s secret hookup.
Not that you’re thinking about that one.
Not that it would even be your case.
You shift on the couch, burying yourself deeper into the cocoon of your brother’s old hoodie. It’s massive on you, the sleeves swallowing your hands, the faded fabric smelling like dust and detergent.
Perfect. The ideal uniform for an evening of doing absolutely nothing.
Your e-reader is dead, so you’ve resorted to flipping through some random paperback you found wedged under the coffee table, something with an aggressively shirtless man on the cover. You’re only half-paying attention, your eyes skimming over the words without really absorbing them.
Caleb should be home soon. Probably. He has class—or he says he has class, but you’re not entirely convinced. He’s in that phase of university where it’s mostly networking and group projects and going out more than actually studying.
Not that you care. He does his thing, you do yours.
A sharp knock at the door pulls you out of your haze.
You ignore it. Caleb has keys. If he forgot them, that’s his problem.
The knock comes again. Then the doorbell rings.
You groan, untangling yourself from the blanket and shuffling toward the door with all the grace of a sleep-deprived goblin. Your hair is a mess, your socks don’t match, and you’re fairly certain you have crumbs on your face from earlier. Good. Whoever’s on the other side can suffer.
Except—
It’s not Caleb.
It’s Hoseok.
Oh.
You freeze, hand still gripping the doorknob, brain buffering at the sight of him standing there, all easy confidence and warm eyes and—why does he always look so put together? It’s unfair. He’s in jeans and a hoodie, nothing special, but it fits him just right, and his hair is slightly tousled, like he just ran a hand through it, and—
Stop.
You force yourself to blink, to breathe, to act like a normal human person.
“Uh,” you say, which is a stellar start.
Hoseok smiles. “Hey.”
He has the kind of voice that makes people listen, rich and smooth, the kind that carries even when he’s speaking softly. Which he is now, like he knows you spook easily.
“Caleb’s not here,” you blurt out.
He tilts his head, amused. “Yeah, I figured.”
Right. Obviously. Because if Caleb were here, he’d be the one answering the door.
You scramble for something else to say, but your brain is blank, completely derailed by the fact that he’s here. In your doorway. Looking at you. And you must look insane—your hair sticking up in weird directions, drowning in a hoodie that is definitely not yours.
And he’s still smiling. Patient. Like he has all the time in the world.
You clear your throat, gripping the edge of the door. “Um. Did you—need something?”
Hoseok shifts, rocking back on his heels. “I was in the area. Thought I’d stop by, see if Caleb was around.” A pause. “And you, too.”
Your brain does an emergency reboot.
You, too.
You, too.
You swallow. “Oh. Right. Cool. That’s—cool.”
His smile twitches, like he’s holding back a laugh.
You want to throw yourself into traffic.
“Mind if I come in?” he asks, ever-polite, ever-easygoing.
You should say no. Caleb’s not here, and even though Hoseok is Caleb’s best friend—and a genuinely nice person, thoughtful and reliable and the kind of guy who remembers your favorite coffee order—something about being alone with him makes your stomach twist.
But saying no would be weird.
So you step back. “Yeah, uh, sure.”
He steps inside, and suddenly the room feels smaller. Or maybe you’re just too aware of him—his presence, the faint scent of clean laundry and something warmer, something mellow. He’s always been like this, always drawn your attention whether you wanted him to or not.
You watch as he shrugs off his jacket, draping it over the back of a chair like he’s been here a hundred times before. And he has, technically, but not like this. Not without Caleb.
Hoseok glances at the book on the coffee table. “Good?”
You stare at it, momentarily forgetting what book it even is. “Uh. Yeah.”
His eyes flick to the cover. His smile turns amused.
Heat floods your face.
"Interesting choice.”
You freeze. A slow, creeping horror slithers up your spine. Because you didn’t even look at the book before picking it up—you just grabbed whatever you had lying around, assuming it was something boring, something safe—
And now Hoseok is holding a novel titled My Professor’s Secret Temptation.
Oh.
Oh, you actually might be sick.
You scramble for something—anything—to say, but the words wedge themselves somewhere between your throat and your rapidly spiraling embarrassment.
Hoseok flips the book over, scanning the back cover with a curious hum. “Didn’t take you for the forbidden romance type.”
You want the ground to open up. You want to disintegrate.
“I—I didn’t even read it!” you blurt out, a little too fast, a little too desperate. “I wasn’t paying attention, I just grabbed something random, and—and it’s not—”
Hoseok glances at you, amused but not in a mean way, just…interested? "Oh, yeah?”
You nod. Aggressively. “Yes.”
His mouth presses into something thoughtful, like he believes you, but there’s still a flicker of amusement in his expression, like he doesn’t quite know what to do with this new information.
“Huh.” He flips through a few pages idly, head tilting. “He’s pretty bold, huh?”
Your stomach drops. “Who?”
“The professor.”
Your soul leaves your body.
You stare at him, mouth opening and closing, incapable of forming a coherent thought.
Hoseok just nods, easy, unbothered. “Some of these lines are intense,” he muses, flipping another page. “Do real professors talk like this?”
You are going to die. Right here. On the floor.
“I—” Your voice cracks. “I don’t know.”
He hums again, like he’s genuinely considering it, then—just as casually as everything else—he looks up and says, “You think he’s hot?”
Your heart stops.
Not in a teasing way. Not in a mean way. Just…like it’s a normal question. Like this is just an easy, natural conversation between two people who absolutely do not need to be having this conversation.
Your mouth opens. Nothing comes out.
Hoseok’s lips twitch, but it’s not a smirk, not a knowing smile—just quiet amusement, like this whole situation is genuinely kind of funny, and he doesn’t think it’s a big deal at all.
“Relax,” he says, closing the book with a soft thump. “I won’t tell Caleb.”
It’s so casual. So reassuring.
Like he really, really isn’t trying to mess with you.
Which somehow makes it worse.
Hoseok sets the book down with deliberate care, spine aligned parallel to the edge of the coffee table like he’s arranging museum artifacts. Your traitorous eyes track the flex of tendons in his wrist—medical intern hands, steady and precise, the kind that’ve probably held beating hearts in ORs. You bite the inside of your cheek until copper blooms.
He glances at the sofa.
You glance at the sofa.
Three cushions. Two throw pillows. Seventy-two inches of fabric that suddenly feels like the Grand Canyon between acceptable and catastrophic.
“Mind if I…?” He gestures to the spot beside your abandoned blanket nest, already moving before you nod.
The springs creak faintly as he sinks into the middle cushion, thighs spreading in that effortless way men do—knees wide, elbows propped, phone balanced on his lap. You sit next to him—two cushions away—and watch his thumb scroll through messages, the screen’s blue light catching the silver ring he always wears on his index finger. Surgical steel, he’d told you once when you’d asked. Sterile. Practical.
Practical.
Practical like the way his left knee now brushes the edge of your blanket. Practical like the faint cedar-and-disinfectant scent of his cologne. Practical like the half-inch of skin exposed when his hoodie rides up as he stretches his arms behind his head.
Don’t look.
You look.
Stop looking.
He shifts, a subtle roll of his hips that has no business being this distracting. The movement pulls the denim taut across his thighs, and you try—really, genuinely try—to keep your eyes anywhere else. The ceiling. The floor. The stack of medical textbooks by the TV. Anything but the way his thumb now absently traces the inner seam of his jeans.
“Told Caleb I’d wait,” he says, tilting his head toward you. The motion makes his throat work—Adam’s apple bobbing, chin catching gold in the lamplight. “Movie night. You’re welcome to join, if you want.”
Your tongue feels like it’s been replaced with felt. “I—I have… readings.”
“Readings.” His mouth shapes the word like it’s fascinating.
“For… neuroanatomy.” You gesture vaguely toward your backpack slumped by the TV stand, half-buried under a sweatshirt you’ve been using as a pillow. “Midterm next week.”
He hums, low and considering. “Limbic system?”
“Hippocampus. Amygdala. All the… emotional bits.”
“Ah.” His smile softens, crinkling the corners of his eyes. “The parts that make you want to throw textbooks at walls.”
You blink. “You… remember?”
“Your first-year meltdown over the cranial nerves? Yeah.” He chuckles, warm and rasping. “You called them ‘twelve little traitors’ and threatened to switch to art history.”
Heat crawls up your neck. You’d forgotten he’d been there that night—Caleb dragging him along for a pizza run, finding you knee-deep in flashcards and tears. Hoseok had quietly made tea while Caleb joked about selling your cadaver lab notes on eBay.
“Still think about it sometimes,” you mutter, picking at a loose thread on the blanket. “Art history sounds peaceful. No one dies in art history.”
“No,” he agrees. “But you’d miss this.”
“Miss what? The sleep deprivation? The existential dread?”
“The way your nose scrunches when you’re trying to memorize Brodmann areas.”
Your hands freeze.
He’s looking at you now—not the performative eye contact of someone making conversation, but the kind that pins you in place. Clinical. Observant. Like he’s cataloging your reaction.
“I don’t… scrunch,” you say weakly.
“You do.” His knee nudges the blanket again. Accidentally. Probably. “It’s cute.”
The air conditioner kicks on. You count the vents in the ceiling. Eight. Eight is a safe number. Eight is not the number of times you’ve imagined him saying that word in different contexts.
Cute.
Cute.
Cute.
Your lungs forget how to oxygenate.
Hoseok’s phone buzzes. He glances at the screen, then sighs. “Caleb’s running late. Some study group thing.”
“Oh.”
“You hungry?”
“What?”
He’s already standing, rolling his shoulders in a stretch that pulls his hoodie taut across his chest. “I’ll make ramyeon. You like the kimchi kind, right?”
You stare.
He’s in your kitchen now, rummaging through cabinets with the ease of someone who’s done this a hundred times. Which he has—game nights, birthday parties, that one time Caleb got food poisoning and Hoseok stayed over to make sure he didn’t choke on his own vomit.
But this is different.
This is him pulling two bowls from the shelf you can’t reach without a step stool. This is him filling the kettle with exactly 500ml of water because he knows your stove runs hot. This is him glancing over his shoulder to ask, “Soft or firm noodles?” like it’s a question that matters.
“Soft,” you croak.
He nods, turning back to the counter. You watch his hands—capable, unhurried—tearing seasoning packets with his teeth. The steam fogs his glasses when he leans over the pot, and he pushes them up into his hair, revealing the faint scar bisecting his left eyebrow.
Bike accident, he’d said when you’d asked. Twelve years old. Thought he could jump the curb like X-Games.
You’d dreamed about that scar for weeks afterward.
“Here.” He sets the bowl in front of you, chopsticks balanced across the rim. “Careful, it’s hot.”
You murmur thanks, staring at the swirling red broth. He sits closer this time—one cushion away instead of two. His knee brushes yours when he leans forward to blow on his noodles.
Accident, you tell yourself. Always accidents.
The TV murmurs in the background, some nature documentary about deep-sea creatures. Hoseok asks about your classes, and you answer in staccato sentences, hyper-aware of the way his sleeve brushes your arm when he reaches for the water glass.
“—and Dr. Park’s lectures are killing me,” you hear yourself say, chopsticks hovering over uneaten noodles. “She goes so fast, and the diagrams…”
“Want me to quiz you?”
Your head snaps up. “What?”
He shrugs, but there’s a glint in his eye—the same one he gets when Caleb challenges him to Mario Kart. “I aced neuro last year. Could walk you through the basal ganglia.”
“You’re… busy.”
“Not really.” He sets his bowl aside, rolling up his sleeves. Your pulse thrums at the reveal of his forearms—dusting of dark hair, veins mapping paths you shouldn’t be tracing. “C’mon. Hit me with your worst.”
It’s a mistake.
You know it’s a mistake even as you fetch your notes, even as he pats the space beside him. Even as his shoulder presses against yours, radiating heat through three layers of fabric.
“Okay.” He scans your color-coded flashcards. “First question. What structure connects the hippocampus to the mammillary bodies?”
“F-fornix,” you stammer.
“Good.” His finger taps the next card. “Main neurotransmitter in the substantia nigra?”
“Dopamine.”
“And loss of dopamine here causes…”
“Parkinson’s.”
“Nice.” He shifts, knee pressing into yours. “Now point to your amygdala.”
You freeze. “What?”
“On your head. Show me where it is.”
“I—it’s—it’s medial temporal lobe, so…” You hover a hand near your right temple, acutely aware of his gaze tracking the movement. “Here? Ish?”
His chuckle vibrates through the couch. “Ish.”
“Shut up, I’m trying.”
“Try harder.”
You glare at him. He grins back, all white teeth and crinkled eyes, and something in your chest cracks open.
“Medial,” he says softly, reaching over to adjust your hand. His fingers graze your wrist—brief, clinical, devastating. “Deeper. Protected.”
You stop breathing.
The documentary narrator drones on about bioluminescent jellyfish. Hoseok’s thumb brushes your pulse point.
Accident.
Always accidents.
Then his phone rings.
You jerk back like you’ve been shocked. Hoseok answers with a calm, “Yeah?” while you stare at your knees, pretending your entire nervous system isn’t short-circuiting.
“Caleb’s downstairs,” he says, standing. “Forgot his keys again.”
“Oh.”
“You okay?”
“Fine.”
He pauses, head tilted. For a horrifying moment, you think he’ll call you out—on the shaking hands, the flushed cheeks, the way you’re clinging to a pillow like it’s a life raft.
But he just smiles. Gentle. Endless. “Thanks for keeping me company.”
The door clicks shut behind him.
You collapse sideways onto the couch, pressing your face into the cushion that still holds the warmth of him. Somewhere in the hallway, the elevator dings. Laughter floats up from the parking lot.
Four years.
Four years of this.
Four years of almosts and maybes and don’t be stupid, he’s just being nice.
Your phone buzzes. A text from Caleb:
𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫: 𝙷𝚘𝚜𝚎𝚘𝚔 𝚜𝚊𝚢𝚜 𝚢𝚘𝚞’𝚛𝚎 𝚜𝚝𝚞𝚍𝚢𝚒𝚗𝚐?? 𝙽𝚎𝚛𝚍. 𝚆𝚎’𝚛𝚎 𝚐𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚙𝚒𝚣𝚣𝚊. 𝚆𝚊𝚗𝚝 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎?
You type no with trembling fingers.
The couch creaks as you curl into yourself, knees to chest, forehead pressed against the spot where his ring had left a faint indentation in the upholstery.
Deeper.
Protected.
Somewhere in your medial temporal lobe, dopamine fires for all the wrong reasons.

Charmed! 2025 (A Community Recap)
Charmed 2025 happened this past weekend, the 10th anniversary. My con recaps of years past desperately tried to fit in as much detail and information of each day, play-by-plays as I tagged everyone I could remember, talked about all the classes I'd been to, the people I'd met. Nowadays, I'm content to just do a general overview.
I spent a lot of time pensive and thinking about my time spent in the community and during cons. The 10th anniversary for Charmed meant that marked 9 years since I'd come out to my very first one. Longer in the community when I was still only online. How does the time fly by so quickly? It doesn't feel real. I still feel very new, and yet when I look around I'm surrounded by unfamiliar faces, cons growing too large and too quickly for me to recognize every face like I used to at the beginning. This sentiment is far from unique, and I had several conversations during the con with people who echoed similar feelings. At one point, I found myself in a group of people who all predated me in the con-going circuit - a rarity as more and more time goes on. We talked about the growth of cons, my first one. Though I'd spent a lot of the day feeling listless without realizing why, I found myself feeling comforted by the company, and realizing I had been lonely.
It's not at all a bad thing, and I'm genuinely happy that more and more people are finding community at these events - god knows I did. It's an adjustment is all, an ever-shifting growth of my own. It's plain to see from my blog activity over the years that I withdrew from talking as often. Not good, not bad, but also for good, and for bad. It's probably good that I don't reveal as much about myself at the drop of a hat. It's probably bad that I'm more avoidant now than I'd like to be. I'd remarked to a friend a while back that I didn't miss the old MMO that we met each other on and spent our days playing, but that I missed the period of time in my life that it defined. Similarly, I think I was going through a huge shift in life and perspective at the time I was first finding my feet at these events, these gatherings of people that taught me that it was worth it to seek my own happiness, that *I* was worth it. I know this inherently now, but it was much more of an impact back then for obvious reasons. I suppose it's like the honeymoon period of a relationship vs. settling into its stability. I suppose you could say I'm in a long-term relationship with myself! And it's some of the healthiest it's ever been. And now that I'm doing better and more stable these days, I should try to push myself to be out there more often.
Every time someone tells me that I've grown so much, I can't help but tear up and cry. (I'm doing it now as I type this.) And wouldn't you believe it, that happened to me like FOUR TIMES during Charmed!! Come on y'all!! What the hell. There's nothing that solves feeling stagnated in life like hearing that from someone else. I resolved myself at the beginning of this post not to feel like I had to document every interaction and tag every person, but it's difficult to fight the urge to yell it from the rooftops, how each interaction genuinely touched me, how they were the highlights of my con. How I miss them again, and how I can't wait to see them again. It couldn't come soon enough. Thank you to those who have watched my journey and always encouraged me. (I feel like I say this often, but, please know that I mean it every time. Except this time like triple it. That's how much it means to me.)
Charmed changed my life. I will say it to my dying breath and I will always be forever grateful for it. I learned people could be happy. I learned I could be happy. The connections I made at the first Charmed and subsequent years have changed my life beyond what a 2015 version of me could ever imagine. Tangibly, too -- beyond just a shift in perspective and mentality and wanting better for myself, I wouldn't have been able to move out without the chain of events that started at this first con. So- thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much.
I challenge myself not to document every interaction because in the past, that was how I had to live. Every post was proof I had experienced hardship (and lived). Every con meant a new lease on life and I had to memorize every single one and struggle to do hours long voice recordings about each day of the event to remember as much as I could because, that was all I could bring back. And I don't need to anymore - not because I don't want to remember, but because I'm in a better place now. These aren't the desperate emergency infusions of care I didn't know I could have; now, they are cherished moments with friends old and new, a drop in the bucket of happy memories. And part of life is to forget and talk about old stories and remember them again with good company.
Until the next one, and the one after that, and the many more after that.
-- Ari

I love TGCF fics with the tag "different/alternate third meeting." These are basically fics where Hualian meet up during Xie Lian's second banishment or sometimes right when Xie Lian ascends for the third time before the Bridegroom mission. These are always really fun, but I also find the tag funny because it's not really accurate? Like in a way it is if we're counting each of Hua Cheng's persona as one meeting (Hong'er, Wu Ming, San Lang/Hua Cheng), but that still leaves out the unnamed soldier and ghost fire meetings. And Hong'er met Xie Lian at least three times himself (granted, I'm not sure if Xie Lian realized the boy at the temple was Hong'er).
Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing authors who use the tag. It's good short had for pre third ascension meetings. I just find it funny that the reason it is used is probably because the fandom can't agree how many times Hualian has met. Like does each "first" meeting count as one? If not should we count Qi Rong dragging Hong'er and the spirits attacking Hong'er as two, since Xie Lian briefly leaves Hong'er alone (If I'm remember correctly)? Should Wu Ming and the ghost fire be two different meetings? Like their history is so messy! I don't even know if Xie Lian realized that the ghost fire was Wu Ming before the Cave of Ten Thousand Gods. Like, I know three meetings isn't accurate, but I have no idea what the correct number would be so three works well enough!

note: this is a blurb i wanted to write using a prompt from the winter wonderland sleepover because i wanted to add rooster to my masterlist.
prompt: “Don’t you ever do that again!”
warnings: not proofread, basically a rewrite of one of the scenes in top gun maverick but reader is taking maverick's place
❀ masterlist ❀
Tumblr media
you first thought it was bad when rooster ran out of flares and you had to swoop in to cover him with your own. you then realized it got worse when you felt the impact of the missile slamming into your engine. it only continued to go downhill from there.
now, you were running through the snowy forest trying to get to rooster. you thought you'd lost him for a second earlier and your efforts had been for nothing when his fighter took a hit. however, relief soon found you when you saw his parachute. when you laid eyes on him, he was pulling off his parachute and beginning to bury it.
one second, you were filled with concern for him.
"are you okay?" you shouted as you ran closer to him.
"yeah, i'll manage."
the next second, you were angry.
your body showed no signs of slowing and you ran right into him with purpose, pushing him down.
he took off his helmet and looked at you incredulously. "what the hell?"
"what are you doing here?" you asked, your anger clear in your tone.
rooster had never felt more confused. "what am i doing here?"
"yes, what are you doing here? i didn't take that missile for you to be down here with me. you should be back on the carrier by now!" your eyes held a blazing fire that rooster had never seen before.
his brows dropped to a furrow as he tilted his head down a bit more to be at your eye level. "i saved your life."
"i saved your life," you challenged loudly, taking a step closer to him. "what the hell were you thinking?"
rooster inched closer as well, very much invading your personal space, but neither of you cared. "mav told us not to think!"
"i know!" you cried out, "why do you think i did that?!"
"i don't know, but don't you ever do that again!"
there was an intense moment between the two of you as you stared one another down. your breaths mingled together due to your proximity and your chests rose and fell quickly with them. both your eyes and his bounced between the others, each of you waiting for the other to do or say something.
it was ultimately you who broke the staring match.
it was like your body was acting before your brain could tell it what to do. you stepped the last little bit closer and wrapped your arms around his neck, letting out a sigh you hadn't realized you were holding in.
rooster wasted no time in circling his arms around your waist.
"you scared the shit out of me," you whispered, squeezing him a little tighter.
rooster's light chuckle made you feel a little bit better. "you scared the shit out of me first," he uttered before pulling back ever so slightly to look you in the eyes. "are you okay?"
"yeah," you tell him, trying to inspire confidence, though your voice doesn't match your intentions. you're scared and you know he is too, but you can't be scared right now. you both need to get back to the carrier. "so, any ideas on how to get out of here?"
"i was kind of hoping you had something," rooster commented, a small grin on his lips, "there's a reason your callsign is murdock. you're our daredevil. one of your crazy plans would be great right now."
a light laugh fell from your lips as you both pulled away fully from each other. your eyes search the trees around you while you wait for inspiration to strike. then, it hits you.
"if a crazy plan is what you want," you preface, reaching for rooster's arm to pull him in the direction you were going, "then a crazy plan is what you will get."

wip yeah yeah whatever it's never wednesday
I've been tagged by a few folks and I'm having trouble remembering because I've had a shitty ass day but I love you. And I miss you. And I need you.
So I'm tagging all my usual boos back. K thanksss. @aldisobey @heylittleriotact @thepalehorsevictoria @caffeinatedmunchkin @xxnashiraxx @jainydoe
I honestly don't really have anything in particular cooking, so this is just something from the next chapter of Aftertaste, the stupid sugar daddy AU I can't stop having fun with. It's one of the most cursed things I've written lmao
****
She tousles her hair. Bites her lips raw, like some tragic heroine wasting away in a garret. Paces the apartment for the most flattering light—nature’s filter, since she has standards—and extends one arm to the heavens, the other tugging at the neckline of her shirt. Nothing too obscene; wouldn’t want to inconvenience some tragically repressed colleague of his with a crisis of conscience. Then again—why not?
Let them suffer. Let them swallow around the dryness in their throat, let them grip their pens a little tighter. A whisper of lace, just enough to suggest that yes, she owns lingerie, and no, it is not because she enjoys spending $80 on machine-washable disappointments.
Let him imagine her breasts—imagine that they exist, that they could, theoretically, be his to touch, that perhaps, if he’s really exceptionally well-behaved, he might even get to slide his cock between them. Not that there’s much to work with—more symbolism than substance, more spiritual journey than actual grip—but hey, she suspects he’s the kind of man who would whimper at the mere suggestion of friction. The type to shudder through it, clutch at her shoulders afterward like she’s just guided him through some kind of sacred, transcendent experience—one that leaves him dazed, vulnerable, and in dire need of a therapist with very strong professional boundaries.
Maybe, just maybe, if fate is kind and the gods of dignity finally decide to smile upon him, next time he spills onto her face or neck, it will be on purpose. A deliberate choice rather than an unfortunate trajectory issue. Perhaps even with a plan this time, some semblance of aim, a fraction of control. And afterward, he’ll do the gentlemanly thing: wipe the tear tracks from his face, mumble something about how he’s never felt this way before (bless his heart), and take out his wallet to buy her a pearl necklace—the kind that actually comes in a box, not the kind she has to scrub off in the shower.
It wouldn’t be a hardship. She finds, to her mild surprise, that she actually likes the man. At least as a human being, which is more than she can say for most.
Click. Send.
She knows he sees it because he is the kind of technologically inept buffoon who never figured out how to disable his read receipts. A man living in blissful ignorance of his own transparency. How cute.
A pause.
Dot. Dot. Dot.
Nothing.
Dot. Dot. Dot.
A great, yawning chasm of nothing.
She sighs and plops her ass on the bed.
Dot. Dot. Dot.
Perhaps he has died.
Perhaps the mere implication of cleavage has sent him into full cardiac arrest, right there at his desk. Emmrich Volkarin, well into his fifth-or-whatever decade, struck down—not by time, not by fate, but by the revolutionary concept of boobs. Maybe he hit his head on a stack of his own pretentious books—some dusty, 800-page discourse on moral decay—and perished instantly, a martyr to propriety. Mr. Professor, defeated by décolletage. Tragic.
Ah. Something.
A ha-ha reaction, skittish and accidental, yanked back almost immediately, and replaced with the trembling penitence of a heart.
And still. No. Words.
She rolls her eyes, sends him a photo of the most aesthetically offensive thing in her apartment.
That’s my monstera
This time, a response. Still criminally slow, but at least they've moved past Morse code levels of hesitation.
Emmrich, miracle of miracles, finally sends a photo back.
It’s a dog. Poorly cropped. Enthusiastically blurry. A dog in spirit, certainly, but in form? A vague collection of fur and misplaced limbs. The man takes photos like a cryptid spotter. But hey, at least the pup looks happy.
This is my Manfred.
Manfred.
What an absolute catastrophe of a name for a dog.

Migraine pains
I wrote this a bit ago for Ao3 and wanted to post it here! This is my first time posting fanfiction on Tumblr so please forgive me if I make any mistakes :] Enjoy!
Tags: Sickfic, headaches & migraines, married Miles Edgeworth/Phoenix Wright, fluff
Discription: Phoenix Wright, who is set to be the defense in a high-stakes murder trial, is suddenly struck down with a migraine. Having never had a migraine before, he is forced to overcome a deep rooted trauma to get rid of the pain.
Wordcount: 1,3k
Again I wrote this a bit ago so there might be some mistakes as I was sick myself when writing lmao.
Wright?
A voice. A distant, but familiar voice sounded in his head.
Wright!
The voice raised, scaring the lawyer wide awake. He was laying on the small sofa in the defendant lobby, staring his opponent in the eyes.
"Finally!" Edgeworth, the stern man he was, leaned over Phoenix like a hawk. His clothing strayed from his usual courtroom attire, sporting a black button up with a dark magenta vest, topped off with a tie of the same color. On top of it all was a long, but formal coat to protect against the freezing cold. His hair was still the same as always, neat and well styled.
"Mi- Miles…" Phoenix said, sitting upright. "...You look different."
"Now is not the time to be discussing my appearance!" He pushed his glasses up. "There are 11 minutes left till court and you look like… that."
Phoenix looked at the clock, then himself, and then back at Edgeworth, trying his goddamn best to process the event that transpired before this.
"Well…" He was slightly taken aback by his partner's comment. Jesus, no need to call me out like that… I thought you loved me.
"Come with me, I'll fix you up in no time." Edgeworth reached his hand out, all but dragging Wright towards the bathroom.
"Wait! What- where"s Maya? Which trial is this? Why-" He jumped up off the sofa, trying to keep up with Edgeworths pace. The prosecutor swiftly turned around, staring into Wright"s eyes with utter confusion.
"You don't know which trial this is?"
"Eh, not really…"
They held eye contact for a few seconds, until Edgeworth continued his journey to the bathroom. He pushed Wright in front of the mirror, and began trying to make some sense of the man's un-natural hair.
"How can you not remember? You were there when the victim got shot!"
Phoenix stared at his reflection. Messy hair, messy clothes, messy… everything! He looked around, noticing a strange spot in his vision. He brushed it off as an effect of staying up late (which he did the night before), and readjusted his collar and tie.
However, no matter what he did, the spot didn"t go away. If anything, it was growing. An unsettling feeling plagued his mind. He tried not to think about it too much, and focused on Edgeworths rambling instead.
"Well." Edgeworth said. "You look… presentable."
He stepped in front of his partner, making the last adjustments before placing a gentle kiss on his cheek.
"Hey, Miles?" Phoenix asked. "Do you ever have like a… weird, rainbow spot in your vision?"
"Do elaborate… I'm a bit confused on what you mean."
Phoenix sighed. Not out of frustration or exhaustion, but out of a growing anxiety that something was wrong. Very wrong. "There's a spot in my vision, and I… I can't see through it."
"Oh-" He inhaled sharply through his teeth. "Like a migraine."
"A what-now?"
Edgeworth sighed. "You… don't know what a migraine is?"
"Well- I kinda do, but I"ve never had one." Phoenix said. "The only thing I know is that it's a big headache."
"Lucky bastard…" He mumbled to himself. "Anyway, you can"t go to court like this… it's only going to get worse from here."
Phoenix gasped. "Wait- what? Worse?" He strongly blinked a few times, getting more and more worried as the spot grew. "I have to do this case… I wont be able to pay my rent if I don"t!"
"Phoenix, I know." He placed his hands on his partner's arms. "But trust me, in the state you are in right now…"
"What, I'll get a headache? I've had those before, you know."
Edgeworth was getting frustrated now. Migraines were common for him, especially after the many sleepless nights he so often experienced. He knew there was nothing to be done about them, but that certain things would at least help. Being the defense on a high stakes murder trial was certainly not one of those things.
"Phoenix, I have had more than enough experience with this.” He held the door open with one hand, and reached out to Phoenix with the other. “Let's just go home. I won't let you go to court sick.”
Phoenix sighed in defeat, knowing damn well that trying to formulate a counter argument would only result in failure. Besides, he was getting a bit of a headache…
-
The pair stood in the garage of the prosecutor's office. Edgeworth was clearing some things from the passenger seat. Wright could make out some loose paper, a thick, messy case file, and a chinese take-out box. He had been given Miles’s coat, as he (stupidly) didn't bother bringing one with him despite the frigid temperatures.
“You can come in now.” Edgeworth gestured towards the door.
Phoenix stepped inside with less grace than a drunk walrus, but he couldn't care less. The looming headache and anxiety were worse than before.
“Thanks.” He mumbled. “What are we gonna do about the trial?”
“Ah, I'll call the courthouse when we get home.” He got into the driver's seat and started the car. “Don't worry about it.” A warm, comforting smile appeared on his face. Phoenix felt a firm hand on his shoulder, and couldn't keep his obvious blush hidden.
The first 5 minutes out of the 17 they had to drive were pretty uneventful. Normally they would have filled the whole trip up with stories and complaints about work, but it was completely silent this time.
After a bit, Phoenix suddenly let out a painful whimper and dropped his head in his hands.
“Phoenix?” Miles pulls over into a random parking spot. “Phoenix- Are you alright?”
“I… mh-” He barely gets his words out. “Pain.”
“Headache?”
He nods, albeit rather pathetically.
“Right.” Miles started driving again, maybe just a bit over the speed limit. “We have medicine at home-”
“No.”
Miles looked at Phoenix, more confused than concerned.
“What do you mean, no?” He said.
Phoenix leaned back, eyes pressed shut. “I'm not… I'm not taking the medicine. Not after what happened with her.”
Miles sighed. He knew what was coming, and he knew he either had to wrestle the medicine into the man himself, or just leave him in pain. And his heart was not ready to accept option two.
“Phoenix, I understand, but… do you really want to live in pain for the rest of the day?” He said. “The medicine isn't even cold medicine. Completely different brand.”
“I-” Phoenix hesitated.
“Do you not trust me not to poison you?”
Phoenix inhaled sharply, being nearly brought to tears by the comment. Miles immediately regretted what he said.
-
Miles unlocked the door, and Phoenix nearly crashed through it. He stumbled to the couch and fell face first, not bothering to take his shoes off.
“Do you want to eat anything?” Miles asked.
Phoenix shook his head, far too tired for any degree of verbal communication. His eyes were heavy and useless, and his head screamed at him in pain.
“Do you want to watch tv?” Phoenix looked confused. “You're not supposed to look at the screen when you have a headache, right?” He thought to himself. Miles noticed his concerned expression. “As a distraction, of course. Listening to something always helps me get my mind off of what's happening to me.”
“Eh, I don't know…”
Miles chuckled. “You could also listen to me ramble about the Steel Samurai, but I doubt that would bring you any joy.”
“Just… do something…” He stared at a little bottle of pills in contemplation. “And…”
“And what?”
“Get me some painkillers…”
Miles tried to hide his best to hide his excitement, but as he looked over at his partner and noticed a devious grin plastered on his face, he knew he had lost.

michelle's buddie fic recs: week 5!
i won't lie folks, these rec lists are the only reason i know what week it is. but hey, every week brings us closer to the return of 911! in the meantime, enjoy these fics <3
this is a mix of fics with all ratings, so some include NSFW content. please take a look at both the ratings and the fic tags before reading! some might also contain spoilers for season 8.
if you come across something you like in this list, remember to show some love to the author by leaving kudos and a comment!
am i who you think about in bed? | rarakiplin/@hoediaz | 6.8k | M
eddie sleeps with men that aren't buck until, well, you know. eddie's hoe phase is something so very dear to me <3 i love how this fic captures him (and that phase lol) so much!! and That Moment in the bar... unmatched
and if someone asked me if i love you (i'd lie) | forgetmyname/@kingmieczyslaw | 10.3k | E
Eddie has a concussion. Suddenly he can't lie. It would be fine if he wasn't trying his best to not confess his undying love for Buck. this is such a fun fic <3 i love the firefam's reactions to eddie's predicament!!
and longingly i long | effervescentwolf/@effervescentwolf | 14k | M
Asking for what you want is asking too much of Buck, except it isn’t really. Not when it’s Eddie. i read this fic, immediately clicked the little back to the top button, and still have it open in a tab to reread asap, that's how good this is. the hurt/comfort hits so so hard, truly marvellous!!
bobby versus buddie | songbvrd/@songbvrd | 10.4k | M
Five times Bobby tried to gently hold Buddie's hands and tell them they were in love, and one time they got the picture. i adore how this fic captures bobby and athena and bobby's relationship with buck and eddie and also buddie <3 just a delight to read!!
buck, bothered and bewitched | bellabrady | 5.8k | not rated
Buck gets turned into a Golden Retriever. SUCH a fun fic. i really do think that animal transformation-esque fics are an untapped market... this is a brilliant example of just how good they can be!!
give me a call if you ever get lonely. | dylaesthetics | 7.7k | E
Now that Eddie’s come out as gay, Buck helps him explore his kinks and fetishes. Not in the way you think. And later, exactly in the way you think. truly what a brilliant fic concept... hot and fun and cute <3
i just wanna tell you how i'm feeling | calvingseason | 7.7k | T
healing through shitty memes sure is cathartic. i do love a good crack treated seriously fic <3 eddie in this one genuinely had me laughing out loud!
if you say it with your hands | hammersmiths/@henwilsons | 9.9k | T
Eddie starts casually falling asleep against Buck, and Buck is very normal about it. oh the joy of the literal sleeping together tag!! this is soft and cute and just perfect <3 one of my favourites to reread!
leave the light on (i'll be coming home) | HMSLusitania/@hmslusitania | 44.4k | M
An accident on a call leaves Buck with custody of Chris after Eddie is... missing presumed. While they navigate their new family circumstances -- and fight to stay together, despite Eddie's parents' best efforts -- a John Doe wakes up in a coma ward with no memory of his own life beyond the knowledge he has a son named Christopher and, somehow, he needs to get home. i've been waiting to be in the right mood to read this one - since joining the fandom last year, it's probably the most recced fic i've seen! and, well, having read it, i totally get that. a wonderfully written fic, i loved the OCs but also adored buck and christopher here <3
let me know you (bedhead and morning breath) | burnthatbridge/@burnthatbridge | 6.2k | E
Buck hasn't gotten off since the lightning strike. Eddie watches him do something about it. THIS FIC. holy shit this fic. so good, so hot, so fun, so them!!
love me most | EiraLloyd/@unlifeira | 11.3k | T
Eddie’s not impressed that Buck and Tommy’s first date was supposed to be dinner and a movie. He thinks he can come up with something more creative, and he takes Buck on a date to prove his point. It’s a fake date, obviously. It’s not like he’s in love with Buck or anything.) i'm obsessed with eddie's behaviour in this fic <3 such a wonderful buddie dynamic!!
no takebacks | ever_yours/@ever-yours118 | 4.5k | M
In which Buck accidentally sends a confession to Eddie, lingers in the bargaining stage of grief, and maybe doesn’t end up regretting it so much, after all. love love love buck here, so true to character!! such a fun fic <3
PTA "coup d'état" | Bookworm0303/@insertlovelyperson | 26.5k | T
Buck attends some PTA meetings for Eddie. It goes about as well as you'd expect. this fic has so many funny moments, i can't even count how many times i had to put my phone down just to laugh. i especially loved ravi!! oh, the pta shenanigans... delightful fic!!

glen (@godisaknife) sexually harassed me after being told to stop
tw: persistent sexual harassment, parasocial behavior, suicidal thoughts. tumblr will not even let me use tw or cw to trigger tag this
a few months ago, i received a kinky ask after i had been sharing some thoughts about wanting a dom who was intense but caring. i received an anonymous message along these lines and at first i was interested and consented to the interactions, but i wasn’t too comfortable with the anonymous part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
while asking these questions, i was speaking with a mutual about them and how i was getting uncomfortable. he had replied on anon that he was an older mutual, and that’s when i knew it was glen; he had been liking my posts at the time of sending asks, he had a very particular typing style, he’s into that BDSM kind of stuff. i never thought of glen in a romantic/attractive way, and the fact that he’s younger than me, has a very “uwu” personality (something he literally types out), and often posts very distressing mental health/suicidal ideation to the point where i filtered his URL instead of unfollowing because i was worried that might trigger him. he sent a couple more asks, which i ignored and hoped he’d get the memo.
in one ask, he gave another clue “daddy G”
Tumblr media
(note: please remember this is the type of ask/fantasy i had consented to at this point.)
i told the “anon” i wasn’t interested.
Tumblr media
glen replied with the most obvious “clues” telling me who he was, and continued to use kinky language that i had no longer consented to.
Tumblr media
(note the “ILY” after i told him to stop and calling me “his boy”)
i shouldn’t have to explain myself in why i didn’t block him then, so i won’t.
some time went by and i received a new ask, this time again with dead ringer texting style than i knew was glen. i tried to put him off in the plainest way possible, again attempting to not make him feel awful because i have a bleeding heart/savior complex personality even though i can barely manage my mental health.
Tumblr media
(here’s another instance of him using “fren”)
Tumblr media
glen did NOT get the memo somehow and persisted further, telling me this:
Tumblr media
that’s when i had completely had it. this ask finally gave me the clarity and drive that i needed to message him to directly tell him he’d cross the line and that i was blocking him. i proceeded to block him everywhere else i knew him from.
i never considered glen and i very close. we both have severe and similar mental health issues that i knew weren’t good for each other so i didn’t message him often. i looked back on what messages i did send, and realized how many times he referred to be as “my beloved” and such. now of course i realize that’s weird, especially because the only thing i know about him is that he lives in italy, he’s 25, he likes horror and hannibal, and like me, he’s mentally unstable (something we have in common and im not pointing out to demonize him)
hopefully people can learn from me that if someone is upsetting you to the point where you avoid them, just cut the ties now. there’s no merit or benefit of trying to be the savior/helper when if affects YOUR mental health too.
do not go to glen’s profile and send asks/messages. block him, please. he’s in a lot of my mutual circles and i don’t want to see him around anymore. his actions led to a sleepless night, a panic attack, and paranoia. i needed others to know and avoid him and it’s taken all my energy today to post this.
additionally, and i can't believe i have to say this:
trying to discredit someone's sexual harassment allegations by saying that the harasser "wasn't TRYING to be malicious" or "lacked social cues" or "didn't threaten anything" are all victim-blaming mentalities that side with the oppressor. i can't believe i have to explain this in 2025 but lack of intent to harm does not equal a lack of harm. i do not think that glen is purposefully harmful but he still harassed me and that's what matters.

This was so fun but also really hard! Some comparisons are more surface-level while others are more intricate.
Thank you for the tag, Omi! I always love doing these 🥰 Tagging some LADS mutuals + anyone who wants to play! @feelymeely @megandg @venomaniyah @deepspacenova @comatosebunny09
Caleb Eldest sibling syndrome. We both hide our pain behind humor and often put other's needs (specifically emotional needs) before our own. As a result we have a very difficult time opening up and expressing our negative emotions with other people because we don't want to be responsible for bringing down the vibe or putting our emotional baggage onto others even though we constantly feel like we're drowning.
Rafayel Kind of bratty and easily annoyed. We both want instant gratification but must suffer under the expectation of patience. I've also had a soft-spot for mermaids for as long as I can remember, so there's a connection there as well.
Sylus Wants to appear like Big Bad Scary Confident Baddie on the outside but it's a defense mechanism because we're actually Soft Self-conscious Cinnamon Roll Babies on the inside. We want our favorite people to thrive and be the versions of themselves that they will be the most proud of.
Xavier We never want to leave our house because staying home with take out and our favorite (books, movies, games) is the place we feel most comfortable and like ourselves. We hate being perceived.
Zayne I also have a sweet tooth that can't be satisfied. Sugar will be our downfall, I fear. That's really it though. I think the thing I love most about Zayne is that he is the complete opposite of me as a person. We would balance one another.
so let's play another game
Tell something you have in common with your favorite (s) LI(s) then tag someone else
Me and Zayne are both lightweight. Y'all I can't drink alchohol to save my lips 🤚💀 without ending up tipsy just a glass of wine is enough to make my head spin .
Me and Rafayel are both dramatic but only with people we care about , I like to get on my friends and family's nerve (that how I show my love 😔)

what are your thoughts abot how Damian and Tim's relationship is portrayed in most fanfics?
personally, although I like the angst part of their relationship I wish there was more fanfics where they're closer and have real siblings dynamic (like u know they 'hate' eachother but they would destroy anyone who would want to hurt their brother)
oh, boy, do i have a lot to say about this one. buckle in, folks.
i feel like a lot of the time, if they're in a fic together and the fic author doesn't like one of them, the other is going to be mischaracterized to hell and back. sometimes... both are mischaracterized.
i'm all for a fanon interpretation of a character- obviously, because i have fanon interpretations in my fic too at least a wee bit- but sometimes it goes too far and it no longer feels like we're reading about the same character
let's talk about Tim.
Tim doesn't have a good view of himself or his standing in any emotional aspect. which is often misconstrued about him believing that he was Jason's replacement (neither he nor Bruce thought this, but it was Bruce's fear), or that his worth as Robin wasn't enough. that's not true at all. i'll say it again here: Jason didn't nearly kill Tim at Titan's Tower, nor did he go there to kill Tim. and Tim fought him back. he even told Jason to his face:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"you can't be that good" "I am."
he knows he's a damn good Robin! he trained with the best, he helps lead the YJ! he doesn't doubt that he was the best person for the job. but when it comes to the emotional aspect of Robin, i think this is where Tim stutters
this is because of how Tim's parents showed their affection.
i think canon neglects that aspect of his trauma, which is why so many people hang onto it. in the comics, Tim is shown to have a lot of friends both in and out of suit. he's abrasive and isn't afraid to ask the hard questions. but he is riddled with self worth issues. his parents were barely around him, they didn't know him well at all. and they loved him, but from a distance.
Tim now sees himself as someone that can receive love from a distance. he is incredibly self reliant, and has been from a young age. he sees all of his accomplishments as obligations. he does well at school because he had to. he takes care of himself because he had to. and in his mind, taking up Robin was partly another obligation. he does his job well because he has to, and he might doubt this sometimes like anyone else, but at the end of the day he is confident in his ability to get shit done.
now, the emotional part of Batman and Robin is where i believe i enjoy a fanon interpretation more. he actually does have a good relationship with Dick, but I'm not too sure about Bruce at this point. this topic is nuanced because Batman writers make him so diabolical at times to the point that i would consider it ooc. but other times they're very close and Bruce admits this. so i replace it in my head with a more stable and realistic version that i've seen written by fic authors very well.
Tim views himself as someone who is there for a job: help Batman. but there is a lot of wonder and awe there. his favorite Robin was Dick. (I'll say this again so everyone hears me: his favorite Robin was Dick. yes you are allowed to have nuance and put Jason in there as someone he looked up to as well, please do. but put some respect on Dick's name!) now that he's working with Dick Grayson, someone he admires so much, as well as getting the honor to wear the Robin suit, he feels more like himself than he has in years. he's good at this, and it's also fun. he meets so many people and he gets to make a difference in the world. yes, it's a job, but it's also very freeing
he never did this be Bruce's son, or to replace Jason. his relationship with Bruce started off extremely rocky, with Tim forcing himself into his life in some way because he believed that Batman was going to get himself killed or get someone else killed, or Batman would cross the line. and Gotham would lose the only person who had such unwavering optimism for them. he and Bruce come to an understanding of being partners but not father and son. Bruce doesn't want to open himself up to that hurt again. but we all know Bruce, and that's not what ended up happening. Bruce would never be the same person he was before, but he is not incapable of love.
Tim would not understand that change. I'd get more into this but i don't want this post too long and i wanna save it for when i'm not supposed to be sleeping and when i'm writing one of my Tim fics for once. all we really need to know is that Tim's emotional intelligence is dogshit, and him coming to see Bruce as a father, and Bruce seeing him as a son, would baffle him. because his parents love him... at a distance. and Bruce sees him every day. that's not how it's supposed to work, right?
so.
sometimes, Tim is treated like a porcelain doll who can do no wrong. many aspects of his canon has been altered by fanon to be "worse" than it is. his neglect by his parents did, indeed, happen, and it affects him deeply. but his parents weren't like. beating him, or leaving him without food or shelter or supervision. Tim was clever enough to get around that supervision all on his own. which is why they should have been there in the first place. (they should have been there regardless). and emotional neglect is still a very real issue??? no one has to make it "worse" by making the Drakes out to be monsters. i think Jack often emotionally manipulated Tim when he was around, and I don't know if Jack was even aware that he did so. (which is why i can see some people delving into that nonexistent relationship that DC gave us, and finally giving those implications more depth. there are a lot of good fics that go over this)
often it's hard to read a fic for Tim because they go too hard into making Tim an anxious shy ball of sunshine. Tim is weird, and he stalked the Bats, he stalked Nightwing, he broke into Titan's Tower before he even became Robin. he's a weirdo. he fits right in with the Bats for that reason. some people make him out to be the victim or some kind of damsel in distress, and sometimes we get to see a phenomena where other characters talk like a book about emotional intelligence that their therapist gave them. which is... fine, if you're just writing to write it, maybe helping yourself. but let's take a step back and see Tim is not like that. he is a very capable person, and his not some "uwu, woe is me, i'm so shitty at everything and if you even look at me wrong i'll cry." i honestly believe that Tim is the type of character to hate crying in front of someone and even if he was actively dying he'd be holding back those tears.
whereas Damian? gets the opposite treatment??
granted, i don't actually know too much about Damian, but i at least try to understand him and his background
he's the youngest of them, and i think many people forget that Damian isn't a reader of the comics like we are. he wasn't going into that family with the emotional connections to these characters and their backstories like we did. he was taught about these people, the idea of them. like how we could be taught in class about people from a long time ago. and i can ensure you that Damian was not taught proper emotional intelligence, nor would he have the best grasp of it himself when he was younger than 9 years old. imagine all of your teachers and also your mother told you about these people and their accomplishments, and then told you that the person all of them look up to is your father. the person that you want nothing more than to know, to see, because the people around you talk about him so highly. someone you haven't gotten to meet yet, because you aren't "worthy." can you imagine being told all your life that you are not worthy to see your father yet? and not knowing if he believes that too?
but one day, you are going to be by his side as his son. i don't want to get too into the culture of the Al Ghul family because i don't actually know that much (i'm sure someone would know more about this, feel free to add on if you want to), but this is important to Damian. it's important to his mom. it's important to his grandfather, the leader of an extensive organization that stretches hundreds of years.
then he gets dropped off in a different country, culture, language, and family and he finds that things are not as he had been told his entire life. his father has many flaws, they do not believe the same importance of a blood tie as his family back home does. they question his entire upbringing to his face many times, they question his mother who he loves deeply. he's nine years old. imagine yourself in that position. you don't know yet what role you're playing in an adult's life, but you want to. desperately. you want to know where you stand. you want a hug. not to mention that Damian actually is a very emotional kid. he was taught to shove that deep, deep down, and not let that out.
too many people write Damian as if he was a "feral" kid which is kind of not something to put on him? i don't like it both because he wasn't feral, he was an asshole. there's a difference. and because it feels like a microaggression?? at times?? because once again... the culture that he is from... is important.
they have been racially profiled for many many years... and yes, everything that you read is political whether you want it to be or not. the act of reading is political. you should definitely be aware of what a writer's goal is when they were giving something to you. you should be reading deeper. again, i'm not from his culture and i can't say if it is an insult/insensitive joke or not, nor am i saying everyone who's made the joke before is a bad person. i have made jokes about Tim being a feral kid before and whatnot. i'm saying that no matter who you are, it is your responsibility to think critically about your media and kindly about other people. it feels uncomfortable to me because i know how wrongly the Al Ghuls (specifically Talia) have been treated by writers in the past. and Damian is an extension of that bias. just look at how many times they try to push Ian Wayne on us. or how they'll pull back on Damian's character development when talking about the Al Ghul family.
this probably isn't my topic to write about, at least not before i learn more about it. but since i get a fair amount of viewership, maybe someone will listen to me that won't listen to someone of color that has already pointed this out many times. with the comics fandom, and Batman fandom specifically sometimes, people don't care to think further about why the characters of color are so often and conveniently left out or forced into an archetype. take that as you will
so! he has spent his entire life believing he had to live up to two great legacies, both of which are VERY different. the intricacies of the Al Ghul family are often boiled down to pure evil by both fanon and canon writers, which dulls Damian's resolve and reasoning for what he had done, or makes it hard to connect to him. he has since learned more about who he wants to be and has come to respect his family in many ways. excuse me if i'm wrong, but i think part of why Damian came so hard for Tim was because Tim had everything Damian wanted. he had a place by Batman's side as both his son and his partner, and was very well respected by Batman and Nightwing both. he's older, more mature, he has stature in both this society Damian now has to fit into and within the family dynamic. considering Damian grew up in an assassin cult that solved threats to their dynamics or positions in power by murder, it wasn't a far leap for a child from that environment to make. he was modelling what he had been taught his entire life.
think about the mistakes that you made as a kid. and i don't mean something silly or funny now, i'm talking something that makes you feel ashamed. embarrassed. hurt. something that perhaps now as an adult, you reflect on as being totally uncool. and i want you to think about if maybe your environment had a role to play in that. maybe you made an insensitive joke that your mom or dad would have found funny, and someone pointed it out and reasonably made you feel like a jerk. shit happens. but you hopefully grew from that.
now imagine that mistake was you hurting someone.
yes, he was annoying. he was bratty, at times. he could be a little calculating shit. he hurt people with both his words and his weapons. Tim obviously had many many many reasons to be upset about his treatment- but I fear that most of his anger ended up directed at the older people in their lives that were supposed to be the ones to do something about it!
and though i hate that Tim went back to being Robin (it feels redundant), i have seen panels that show that the two of them working side by side after Damian and Tim both went through some life and perspective altering events both together and alone, has made Tim see Damian as his little brother, and vice versa. Damian has grown so much and many people just... don't care. no matter their reasoning for hating Damian, it's unfair to not look further than those cutting words written decades ago, or to bring up his mistakes every time you want to be mad at him. and i think it does a disservice to Tim to make him a bleeding heart about this when he has clearly forgiven Damian and cares about him. he rags on Damian like any older brother would, and Damian makes remarks like a younger brother would. personally, i think the two of them are doing pretty good right now
the development of their characters is actually so interesting within the canon aspect, even if they can fumble the ball every now and then. and the mischaracterization takes away the value that their canon relationship has. i personally love reading fics that have Damian and Tim teaming up. in aus where one thing changes and Tim and Damian become brothers later, i think it's actually so silly and fun when Damian respects Tim or thinks he's cool. or even without the au aspect! just like, a fic where the two of them are working together and it's either silly or serious, Damian having a begrudging respect for Tim and Tim being protective over Damian, etc etc, is sooooo much fun
