pictured here is a comment i got on a post i made on one of my sideblogs. now this actually kinda motivated me to go and look into something for no other reason than “yeah sure why the hell not.”

and thus i went down a mini rabbit hole.

this is referring to a post about smt 4, but i think they just mistyped smtv instead of iv—

the picture in question shown is this concept art for blasted tokyo:

now this pic mirrors that of where jonathan is in all the little dream/vision/whatever you wanna call them sequences prior to choosing a route. however…

the head of what i believe is supposed to be the statue of aquila or some other structure is different. blasted tokyo is full of rubble on the surface but none match the head from what i can remember (i may be wrong). even then, the guy pictured isn’t jonathan. next thing to question is “what if it’s jonathan’s beta design?” or if any other art for blasted tokyo matched the mystery man.

to the left is beta jonathan and to the right ends up being for the remaining underground districts and for pluto castle (home of the best boss in the game) + weird shadowy figures. again nothing matches up. there’s a really cool exterior shot that i don’t think is ever in the game tho. closest other character i could think of is kiyoharu.

originally though he was intended to wear the same outfit everyone else does (which contextually makes more sense and is something they should’ve stuck with).

so who is this guy? the answer is god knows. best guess i have at this point is an original design for either 1. a law hero similar to 1 and 2, since 4 was a bit back to basics compared to the previous two mainline entries or 2. one of the original concept designs for flynn/the mc. in a lot of the concept artwork displaying what represented the player, they mostly never resemble flynn. some end up just being random designs meant for npcs, armor, or were scraped concepts altogether. a good portion of them are just area concepts. 4 has a ton of world building and i would argue is more based in that than any of the other games.

in just the concepts for tokyo alone that’s the case. mikado concept art isn’t any different.

a lot of background concept art (such as for the weapons dealer, exterior shots of a few dungeons, rooms with npcs in them, etc) end up getting used for locations you can’t walk around in, since the free roam stuff is 3d modeled save for a couple assets. there’s no rough sketches available for most of the areas even in the art book, and that can definitely be the case for character concepts too. sometimes it’s easy to forget that an entire team works on art and not just a couple people, especially in 4’s case given how there’s a few guest artists. there are likely many concepts and pieces of art that have never been seen or are completely lost. any unnamed unknown character shown in these bits of art were likely meant to exist at some point and yet never did.

though gonna be honest this was just the perfect excuse to go looking through concept art again. (quick shoutout to veskscans since she’s uploaded scans of 4’s art book to a google drive (which is linked on her blog). many of the area concept artwork and early character designs are easy to find but smaller scale scenery not so much. she’s a goddamn hero.)

What is self portrait?

In this assessment, self-portrait means everything that can express me. It can be my own image, or it can be my favourite animal, favourite object, favourite place, favourite character, etc.

The goal of this assessment is to portray me as I express myself using Gravity Sketch.

How can I show Me?

I wanted to make it immediately recognisable that it was me when someone saw my self-portrait, but I also wanted to add some hidden meaning. So I decided to characterise myself and then make various things that express me around it.

Me.

I wore a purple hoodie because I like purple and I like to wear comfortable clothes. I characterised myself in a very simple style, but I tried to make myself recognised by adding my characteristics.

The Pukeko.

Pukeko is one of the things that expresses me, even though I'm not myself. I thought I'd put a bird in my self-portrait because it's my favourite animal, but I wanted to put a little more meaning into it. I lived in Korea and came to New Zealand, and I thought it would be fun to express this as a characteristic bird that can be seen often in New Zealand and a characteristic bird that can be seen often in Korea, so I made Pukeko in my self-portrait.

The magpie.

If the bird meaning New Zealand was Pukeko, the bird meaning Korea is Magpie. There are various kinds of magpies in the world, and the magpies found in New Zealand and the magpies found in Korea are different. I thought that this point could mean that my appearance in Korea and my appearance in New Zealand are different, so I made a magpie in my self-portrait.

The Blue-and-yellow macaw.

The last thing I made was a blue and yellow macaw. This macaw is my favourite bird. That's why I thought I had to put it in the self-portrait, and I put it on my head, which is the centre of the self-portrait and, above all, symbolises me the best.

Since it is a self-portrait drawn in virtual 3D space, the picture can be three-dimensional without being broken in any direction. The bird was placed spread out around me, making it possible to see me, see the bird on the floor, and see the bird on top while walking around the space. It's a character and a world of virtual reality, but I also wanted to make it feel real, so I made the height of the character's eyes the same as mine when I used VR.

What did I experience?

The most interesting thing was that image references could be left in the air. It is a method of uploading the image I want to refer to in advance to the Landing Pad and then loading it from Gravity Sketch. It was very convenient to put the image in the desired size in the desired location.

The more difficult thing that I expected was making the desired shape properly. When making a 3D shape, I can only see the front, but I have to draw not only the front but also the top and bottom; this was another difficult thing.

It was a fascinating and interesting experience because, through VR, I made 3D objects directly in virtual reality and felt their size, shape, and location in real time, so I felt like I was creating a space rather than drawing.

You can merge faces and use gene sliders to make unique AI generated faces that can look real or like a painting. There are also anime and furry versions but they don't work as well.

Vroid runs on both android and desktop but the desktop version is very in-depth, you can edit textures and sculpt hair so the options are infinite. If you have a little knowledge on blender and unity you can upload your models to vrchat and let your headmates walk around and socialize without appearance dysphoria (I've done this myself it's super fun.) I recommend Argama witch's tutorials if you have never made a model before.

This is a cute anime style 3d modeler app, it's similar to the android version of vroid but as far as I'm aware you can't upload these to vrchat. There is a face tracking option meant for vtubing though. You can create both male and female characters.

Game, Semi-realistic - realistic

I don't recommend getting this game just for the "create a sim" as the unmodded base game doesn't have too much variety. You can build houses too. (Link)

Gonna be risky business and not only upload all of these caps the way I screenshot them--which has just SO MANY poorly CGI’d butts but also gonna do it on the Tumblr Drafts folder, which I have been assured works now.

I’m so worried about so many things, but considering all the fears I have about like...everything else in the world right now...I guess I’ll take a risk on tumblr.

Edit: I cannot believe that I had 8ish episodes of Kaiba’s tall dueling tower get flagged but not this movie. I just....wow I cannot.

So anyway, last we left off, General Hakuro stepped in and was like “Hi guys, you like my wily plans that no one in their right mind would have ever guessed???”

Yo remember this part of the anime? Where the bodies drop from the ceiling and it’s a hunk out of the final arc--it’s here. In this movie. This movie that can’t possibly afford to do that. Lets get some CGI animated bodies in here ASAP.

It’s like a Monet, as the Mean Girls say, because far away and shrinked to 500 pixels this looks kinda neat. They sort of look more like those slime ball that grow in the back of your throat rather than human bodies, but they still look pretty gross hanging up there.

But then.....we zoom in. Remember again that this was full screen on my computer, and at one point was on a freakin movie screen. This level of 3d...was on a movie theater screen.

The mind boggles. The mind boggles!

Like as you know, I am an artist, and I’ve dabbled in...basically everything in my pursuit to make a dollar...and I have taken about 2 years of classes in 3D art with Maya and all those. I’m not thaaat great at it--I’m much more an illustrator/painter--but I feel like I have that reference point. Can I just say--the model is...fine...you can do a lot with layers of bump maps so you don’t need a truly detailed model (not like they did that, because they didn’t do that, but I can figure that maybe they had an intention to do that and forgot?)

But, there’s no connection of the wires to bodies. They just kinda float? The bodies are also all the same shiny-ness? To the point that it looks like a copy paste? (I don’t think it is, the wires are slightly different on a few of them) There’s just not much in the way of a texture map or a bump map. It just...there’s also something missing from the skin.

Skin is actually kind of rough to render, so when I did it back in the day, I followed like a checklist to make sure I had all the layers and steps to make someone look...clammy. Some things are kinda translucent, they reflect light a different way...especially white skin like this wouldn’t be just...white like putty. Dunno if you ever saw a white person, but we got so many veins...there was so much potential to make something really gross and fleshy.

Instead we got silly putty. It’s fine. I’m fine.

So General Hakuro decides to just...kill everyone right now.

This makes no sense to me.

That means that the whole thing of Lust killing Hughes was completely unrelated to General Hakuro. All Hakuro needed was Shou Tucker, who has been in prison for...I assume months since Ed shipped him off. And Shou was only released today? Just now? Just now when Hughes was shot?

So this all just happened at the same time by accident?

I mean the General sent us to the wrong lab initially, so he didn’t actually want us to be here, and now that we are here, he’s going to set off an entire army as a reaction to three people walking in and going “oops”?

So, lets get a look at our army.

Oh it was so disappointing, this reveal. Not just the eyeball that has a bounce light coming from below the top lip there (how did that even happen???) but also when it opened it’s mouth, it had a flat animation of skin breaking--it wasn’t actually rendered 3d skin, it was like a jpg wrapped around it or something (or at least that was the illusion I got. That is fine for a video game or a TV show, but this is a movie. This is shot so that it can be displayed in a size bigger than your own house.

What happened to the animation team on this one? Not saying I can do better, cuz no, I can’t, that 3d chapter in my life was a while back, but I’m just one guy. This was an entire animation studio and they just...didn’t render 3d face ripping (which is their entire job, to work in 3d) and then they kinda just turned on the stock physics dynamics and dropped em instead of animating them.

The way they fell was like fish from a bucket--the same amount of speed, too. they all ragdolled like a 3D shooter, their rigs just hanging on for dear life (and yes, you could see the deforming happen on the joints of these models.) I’m fine with having a computer program render something out with a physics engine...but there is a balance.

You do have to still go in there and finangle it back because...real life is hella stupid. Real physics? So stupid. It was hilarious how nonthreatening it was, too because they’re like...the size of shrimps in that zoom out image. The scale is just so wild!

It was like one bored guy in a sound booth and they multiplied his voice three times. Golden. Absolutely golden.

So these guys stride over, all of them with the same amount of speed (leading me to think it was probably a recorded walk cycle they all share with slight alterations between all of em) and they kinda just...pile on eachother in a weird way.

I will give them this: I was happy to see something that wasn’t physics or procedural. They mo-capped and animated that part for sure. It had the touch of an artist’s hand. It was also a very funny way for Hakuro to die because this guy was on screen for like 5 minutes, and maybe 7 minutes of this whole movie.

Youknow...I think it really says a lot about your nude 3d models if they’re not disturbingly human enough to trigger the tumblr filter, youknow?

Anyway, Envy looks on.

And then Gluttony saves the city.

Meanwhile, they decide to bust out the fire effects and Mustang becomes the most useful person in this entire movie. Like honestly this movie was poorly named, because it should have just been “Mustang saves the FullMetal Alchemist’s Entire Ass.”

The next part seems like I forgot a cap, or maybe missed something. I swear to you, I did not.

First off, Al becomes fullmetal and makes this happen without an alchemy circle. The show doesn’t really care to talk about that though, it’s just a thing he can do now, and you’d only notice it if you were writing a Tumblr post about it.

I swear to you, Winry is just inside of Al and there is no explanation.

And then when you think they might have a moment, Ed’s like.

Damn.

For reals what the hell was that entire scene except for a way for Ed to get his arm stitched back on in like 2 minutes?

Outside, Envy and Lust are just strolling around the back-alley of this red brick building we have seen used for this entire movie.

And like...it’s so funny to me because they weren’t trying to run or hide. It makes complete sense why they got shot. This is what happens when you just...walk away when the whole military guard wants to kill you.

Now lets go see how Hawkeye is faring.

Luckily, all of the ambling bodies have decided to walk slowly through this one weird grass section between extremely long buildings.

And Hawkeye tells everyone “You have to shoot their heads off” and I want you to look at that scene and tell me how many of those bodies still have heads.

Oh, all of them. Don’t worry about it.

Kinda hard to see, but Ed shows up to give Mustang a hand, which was fully unnecessary but we’ll get to that in a bit.

This movie is such a gem.

Ed goes big brain and realizes that Envy is still burned up, and thus is about to pass on.

And whatever, I’ll take it. It’s not like the movie has told us that they are made out of 1000000 lives, for all we know, in the movie universe, they really are only 4 lives. Like half a cat. Maybe Father only killed half a cat instead of an entire city.

Yugi Muto would be so freakin proud of Envy for how often this guy gets hit square in the chest with fire balls. It’s basically every scene where Envy and Mustang share screen time.

And don’t worry, I don’t think Envy died? But they sure made it look like he did, which I’m sure everyone everywhere was really happy to see, since Envy’s death was one of the climaxes of the whole series. Like people used to make these lists of “top 10 saddest anime deaths” and how many people had Envy on there? Like everyone? People freakin love Envy and they did him so much dirty in this movie.

Again I have no explanation for Winry.

So Mustang is like, Ed, you make sure Winry doesn’t biff it in that corner, and I’ll do my actual job over here on this side. And yo, he did.

And so then that’s it, Lust is dead, and now we have a Sorcerer’s stone.

Man it looks delicious, right?

I’d eat the hell out of that.

Anyway, we only have one more update and we’re done with this movie!

I know! They only have 10-15 minutes to resolve pretty much everything, and that’s assuming that the credits don’t take up a heap of that. Hell, I might only have 3 caps next episode if that’s all credits. I honestly don’t remember.

In the effort of creating more unique and meaningful experiences, most of Nicholas Baker’s objects emerge from reflection upon an object’s familiar user experience and its integration into a novel and incongruous object and interaction.

Nicholas Baker is also known on Instagram for designing in virtual reality as well as for his playful and inquiring relationship with everyday objects.

DesignWanted interviewed Nicholas Baker to find out more about him. Let’s take a closer look.

Who is Nicholas Baker? What got you into design in the first place?

Nicholas Baker: “I’m an industrial designer based out of Brooklyn, New York. Currently, I run a small studio and design for a range of clients. I’ve designed pet products, neural interface tech, houseware, and am currently working on furniture and medical products.

I grew up always drawing and making things. I remember being a kid and visiting my grandfather who was an architect. He’d take me into his woodshop and we would sketch out a car or a plane and build it together. I discovered industrial design later on in high school and have been hooked ever since.“

What other designers, styles, fields, and inputs outside of the design world are you inspired or influenced by?

Nicholas Baker: “I’m always fascinated by the mundane interactions of everyday life, whether that’s turning a doorknob or pushing down the lever on a toaster. There’s something so familiar and natural about those interactions.

I really enjoy the work of Naoto Fukasawa and Jasper Morrison. Both of them touch on this idea of celebrating the mundane, as well as rethinking how these interactions can be combined in other circumstances.”

From conceptualization to sketching, to prototyping, do you have a favorite part of the design process?

Nicholas Baker: “I have two favorite parts. I love the idea phase. It’s so satisfying to come up with a clever idea. You get that burst of energy to jump right into the project.

The other part I love is the final execution, whether that’s building a polished prototype or getting a sample from a factory. Getting to hold a physical thing that was once a concept in your head is a magical experience.“

When did you start VR sketching and why can it be a great tool for designers?

Nicholas Baker: “I’ve been exploring VR in my design process for around 3 years now. It’s an incredible tool. One of the most valuable areas I’ve found is the ability to iterate on ideas.

Creating forms in VR is significantly faster than with pen and paper, and the output is a 3D model that can be evaluated from any angle or rendered in realistic materials.

I’ve also started to experiment with presenting concepts to my clients in VR. It’s a rapidly evolving technology and I’m excited to see where it goes.“

In 2017 you launched “almost object”, focusing on experience. What is the main idea behind every “almost object” experiment?

Nicholas Baker: “I started “almost object” as a way to produce designs that were too experimental for most houseware brands. It’s about riding that fine line between questioning what an object could be while also staying functional and economical.

There are plenty of brands that create beautiful objects, and there are plenty of designers that create conceptual designs. But, It’s rare to see experimental and conceptual products that are accessible to the consumer. Currently I self fund and ship the products myself, but I would love to expand and collaborate with other designers in the future.”

Could you elaborate on your awareness of the design and objects all around us?

Nicholas Baker: “I think the idea stems from my inspiration of the mundane interactions of life. Posting on Instagram is a great way to catalog those little compositions of everyday life that often go unnoticed.

I think all designers have this constant curiosity to question why something is the way it is. I often find it a fun exercise to zoom in on small details that I find while walking around the city.

It’s fun to discover a new form by looking at the corner of a railing or find a new mechanism by looking at a door hinge.”

Which are the main values, core concepts or style inclinations that, above all, will always represent yourself?

Nicholas Baker: “I always strive to add just a hint of value in every design I do. I think that great designs balance a perfectly executed product with just a touch of thoughtfulness or cleverness.

It doesn’t take much, and it’s very easy to cross the line of cleverness into kitsch. I’ve been practicing restraint in my designs lately, really trying to distill down a design to its essence.

At the end of the day, as long as I can bring a smile to the user, I count it as a success.“

Nicholas Baker: “Oh, this is a tough question. My first thought is to redesign a transportation system. It would be amazing to have such a great impact on a large population.

But I also have a fun answer, a dream project of mine would be to design a mini-golf course. I would love to design 18 holes with all kinds of clever and crazy mechanisms. Most mini golf courses are themed, but I think I would design mine to be really clean and modern.“

Surprise! I decided to make a rough massing model of the D’ni city (by which I mean the City Proper, not Ae’gura - you can see the latter off in the distance in this shot). There’s a lot of explorable area here (probably a fair bit more than in Uru’s Ae’gura), but it doesn’t feel like it’s too enormous to traverse on foot (and Nexus terminals will eventually help cut travel times even more). It honestly feels pretty incredible to walk around in it, even if it’s just a bunch of gray boxes right now. No joke, I actually got lost at one point, and I’ve spent the last week solid doing pretty much nothing but work on this. Some sign-posts and landmarks are definitely going to be in order. 

Here’s a better view of the whole scene, prior to the addition of the rest of the terrain:

This is the product of about 2.5 weeks of work in Unity. I used ProBuilder to create all of the buildings, walkways, and staircases, and I used rock assets from the Big Environment Pack to kitbash together a rough approximation of the terrain. I still have a few more holes to fill, and I also have to get occlusion culling set up (because boy howdy is kitbashing inefficient), but it was finished enough last night that I decided to go for a stroll, and wanted to share what it looks like from eye level. The view up top is taken from the western upper harbor area, about 240 feet above the water line, and maybe 200 feet west of the line of the Great Zero (which runs straight through the center of the circular boardwalk area below).

The layout of the city is built on this overhead plan originally created by Mark Engberg (yeah, I know). Surprisingly, with the exception of a couple of staircases being way shorter than they needed to be, the plan translates into 3D with basically no modifications needed. The dimensions/layout of the cavern and the position/size of Ae’gura are inferred from information in the novels, Aitrus’s map of the Descent, this map of Ae’gura (which the Unwritten map of Ae’gura is largely based on), the map of the cavern on the floor of the Great Zero in Uru, other old Cyan concept art of the cavern that’s posted on Chiso, and a heaping helping of "that looks about right”. Depending on how Ae’gura itself comes together, it may change size in the future. Also, I know that Ae’gura itself looks a little... weird, but that’s because I just banged out something extremely rough to get a sense of its distance and scale.

There’s a lot more area on the cavern wall that still needs to be mapped out and designed from scratch. I’m not an architect or a city planner, and the terrain in the cavern is wacky enough that even if I were, this would be a pretty unique challenge. I think what I’m ultimately going to have to do is figure out what the lay of the land is like, and then work from there to design the habitable spaces. Figuring out where to put landmarks that have only been established in writing is also complicated by Cyan’s infuriating insistence on using “the city” to mean both “the city on the cavern wall” and “the island of Ae’gura” (this is not just a Wingrovism; Uru does it too).

As far as fleshing out this particular area more completely, I’m at a bit of a loss. There aren’t really a whole lot of examples of D’ni architecture to work from, especially not the really old stuff that would have been built around this original harbor point. I keep finding myself falling down rabbit holes trying to figure out what sort of evolutionary paths D’ni’s architectural design took, how residential structures might have looked (since we’ve never really seen any), which areas of the city reflect certain eras of construction, and how much those areas were renovated or rebuilt at later dates. There are whole fields of discussion to be had about how D’ni culture, religion, and philosophy influenced their architecture at different periods, in everything from proportions to ornament to layout, location, and orientation (@mcmansionhell​‘s recent History of Architectural Theory series has been particularly “helpful” in driving me to look at the bigger picture, depending on how you want to define “helpful” ;)). How does an intense devotion to Yahvo, or a desire to please the divine, translate into architectural design? What did the D’ni find aesthetically pleasing, and did that change over time as they transitioned from being a bunch of surface-dwelling Ronay refugees to a civilization that knew of no other home but the cavern? What sort of buildings got an exception to the “only religious buildings go on the Great Zero line” rule, and when? These are all things that I think ought to be explored and defined in order to bring a greater sense of place to the city, but I’m also not sure I have the sort of expertise (or the strongheadedness) to start building my own fanon bible of this stuff on my own. So for now, massing models it is, I guess.

(Fun side story about the layout plan: I forget exactly how I came across it originally, but a couple years ago I found the website for the architecture design firm that Mark Engberg works for now, and they have several pieces of concept art that were done for Uru listed on this page. The thing is, because the site is built on WordPress, their image uploads are all stored in predictable locations that by default don’t have index lockouts. I’ve found REALLY MASSIVE versions of about 20 pieces of Uru concept art in the upload directories - including several that aren’t even shown on the website - because apparently they just uploaded the source files and relied on WordPress’s image resizing features to generate web-friendly versions. One of these pieces is a version of the city plan I linked to above that’s almost 7,000 pixels wide, so the elevations are all perfectly legible. I’ll leave it to intrepid web crawlers to find these assets themselves, because I’m not entirely sure whether Cyan or Colab are actually okay with them being public.)

Along the way I realized I was a.) really bad at numbering episodes, and b.) reaaaaally bad at spelling Kaiba at the start of this series, really cringey how I used to spell everyone’s name, I can’t really look back there.

Anyway, in case you are curious, the 100th episode was the “Pharaoh turns Karibo into a rainbow for some reason” episode. So, unfortunately it wasn’t that extraordinary. I forgot to write down which episode was 69, which is a colossal failure on my part.

So that being said, this is the last episode of this arc! Honestly, this arc could’ve been a lot shorter because at this point the only resolution left is for Noah to be a decent person once in his life and for Kaiba Sr. to die (which he’s already done, so...mission already accomplished)

Noah recently came on the PA system to inform us that he accidentally decided to kill everyone (congrats, recently reformed Noah), and so he’s going to do the decent thing and let them know where the exit is without actually doing a damn thing to make a portal to get them to said exit.

Guess where the exit is?

I don’t know why the hell this show keeps going back to the local Dave and Busters where Tea got attacked on a dance machine.

At this moment, Gozaburo decided to turn into some sort of giant red ghost devil.

Yes. Exactly what it sounds like.

Apparently this was a thing he could just do this entire arc.

The fact that Seto’s Dad can just morph into a giant red demon is like...not even a problem for anyone on this cast. He literally goes back to his side of the field and goes right back to playing cards. Cuz youknow. Cards.

It’s basically a "Anyone with a millennium item can shoot lasers but never actually does” but demon format. Gozaburo *could* turn into the hulk but like...why?

Meanwhile the rest of the cast are playing cards against the card monsters, that are really just 3D models that Gozaburo had on file. He could have used...literally anything to throw at these people and he went with cards. He could have just dropped a boat on them but...I dunno, maybe he didn’t know where the boat folder was.

Yugi trying really hard to not acknowledge the annoying as hell Joey face and give it any more attention than it already has.

Tea and Serenity scramble to the exit largely unscathed, dragging Tristan with them because he is too small to hold a card hologram and is too monkey to be at all useful back on the front lines.

And they just wake up. Just like that. Just like they woke up from a simple nap or something.

And voila, Tristan is no longer a monkey, his brain is back to normal, the writers were like “we really have to focus on Noah right now, please forgive us if we just pretend line all that brain damage Tristan went through, his brain being 5 DIFFERENT PEOPLE at the same time, having his brainwaves turned into an actual monkey, and then back again within the space of a few hours- just pretend he’s fine now. 

It’s fine. Tristan’s fine.

Tristan wasn’t really...all that bright to begin with so...he’s fine.

And so, as our B team is getting back into the real world, Noah sees this little post-it note on the side of his computer that says “PS, Yugi is a main character and must be present for the finale although he will serve little purpose there” and so Noah pressed that intercom mic button to say:

And it’s at this point that Noah says “I’ll just make you a portal and warp you right there” and then I guess everyone standing around Noah kind of looked at eachother and was like “NOW you do that? NOW? AFTER the chase through the monster copy-paste factory?”

The show is desperately trying to convince me that Noah is now fully a good brother but ehhhhh he’s not. Like, I’ll be honest, they give him the best send off they could have possibly given to such an irredeemably evil character. Like, Seto himself is such a bag of pistachios that you really have to stretch Noah pretty far into evil territory to make Seto look like the good guy in comparison, and it sort of made me not really buy this whole Noah redemption arc.

It’s more like a prequel to a redemption arc that apparently won’t even happen in this series of Yugioh. He comes back at some point, and I only know that because I had to do a google image search of this kid for some reason and it was like ah, yeah, this is definitely a screen cap of a later, glossier looking Yugioh. But, for now, I’d say that Noah’s arc isn’t so much about him coming closer to his family or turning towards the ‘light’, as Pharaoh put it last episode. It’s more about Noah finally letting go of his Father, which should have been the arc of Seto Kaiba.

Instead, Seto did absolutely nothing to let go of his Dad, to the point that Seto is now fighting a computer that just kind of looks like his Dad during a missile strike aimed at Seto’s own face, and Seto did not stop till he won, because of his own damn pride.

Like I think I mentioned this in the last recap, but if they wanted to have Seto show any changes in this arc (which he hasn’t done) then he should have walked away. Instead, he’s very clearly still using his past trauma to fuel the obsessive reasons why he’s playing cards in the present.

Oh, and PS, Yugi’s here, I don’t know why he is, but it does make for some good scenery shots for the commercials so you know, why not.

Gozaburo decides it’s about time to turn into a 50 ft rage monster, and he pushes them to a ledge. Ah, dangerous ledge trope, it’s been a while.

And, finally, as was hinted basically since S1, Yugi gets Seto to jump directly off a ledge of a very tall structure. It finally happened.

Don’t think about it.

And into a portal? That gets them to the exit? Like y’all...this is a kid’s show and all so I shouldn’t question any very convenient plot devices but like...what?

Anyways, they’re fine now, don’t worry about it.

And so, now for a brother pow-wow between Mokuba, who is either still very, very much in Stockholm Syndrome Territory or maybe just doesn’t know that Noah dropped a rocket on his face while Moki was AFK.

And so Noah walks off into the fog cloud because he is the only person on this entire show who would rather die than share a brain (and you know Moki would’ve been down. Moki/Noah as the next Yugi/Pharaoh could’ve been a great thing but youknow, also very much way too complicated for this already complicated show).

It was very melodramatic.

And TBH, I will miss Noah a little bit, he had a fun, insane sort of snobby sass, but I can understand why they might not want to keep even more villains around on this show that is already like...dozens of villains, just so many villains.

Anyway, remember that they woke up in a lab and not in a blimp, so they still have to like...get off this damn boat.

Lol nearly forgot this was an anime. Glad Noah got a magic girl moment before he kicked it.

Also, I’m pretty sure it was shirtless Noah in this glowing yellow farmer’s tan that got this episode flagged for Adult Content when it was still in my drafts folder. Tumblr’s bot got super excited to shut this one way down lol.

And then what follows is like one of the best animated loops in Yugioh. One so good that you bet your ass I clipped it to view for my own leisure.

Mokuba, sensing he’s slowing down for no reason makes the mistake of telling his brother “I’m not going to make it” and so, as an unsuspecting Duke Devlin reaches out and says “grab my hand,” Kaiba does...THIS

Like he could have easily picked up Mokuba but youknow, any chance to throw a kid at Duke Devlin’s face shoe-first, I guess.

Maybe this is why Moki wears a puffy vest?

And so it was here, as the flames encroach on my wonderful blimp baby that I was getting ready to say goodbye, but guess what, she ain’t dead because...of a completely insane reason we’ll get to in a bit.

Oh, and PS Kaiba’s Dad is a flame monster now. Because of...technology?

It’s probably supposed to be metaphorical flames but youknow, apparently Kaiba had the foresight that someone at some point would become a flame demon and try to devour his entire blimp, and so he made a feature you can add onto what ever blimp you decide to buy from him just so you can outrun fire people attacks.

And it turns out Blimp was the real Magical Girl all along.

And then everyone collectively decided that Noah WASN’T DEAD. It was very unhealthy! Thanks 4Kids!

The irony about this exchange is that it is Bakura who is the one who’s uploaded to a flash drive, not Noah--Bakura is on a flash drive around Yugi’s neck but they have never discussed this. Like I’m pretty sure no one even has still picked up that Bakura died and that’s going to be the thing I look forward to the most next episode. If they even address it. Which they might not.

And so, Kaiba looks at the wreckage and the rocket parts that he now has to explain to the UN (and probably not for the first time) and he says:

And thus ends the Kaiba’s Kojima-esque War Crimes arc.

Oh man, next time we get to go back to Marik.

Building With The Beck Group: Upgrade Your Construction Workflow With Drones

Daily meetings start with Skycatch maps.

Communication and collaboration is critical on every construction site. From the initial design to the final product, communication between the trades, the supers, and the engineers needs to be constant and easily understood.

  We talked to Grant Hagen, VDC Manager and drone pilot for The Beck Group to get the inside story on how The Beck Group seamlessly integrates Skycatch 2D and 3D data into their existing construction workflows. Now armed with a never-before-seen bird's eye and 3D model view of the project, drone data has significantly improved how everyone on the project throughout different departments communicate with each other. This enhanced communication enabled Beck to identify issues before they became major problems, resulting in a 25% reduction in rework from change orders and saving 5 hours a week on unnecessary meetings.

  Beck's project is an integrated job, meaning they are in charge of the architecture design, as well as being the general contractor for the construction. Read on to find out how they synthesize old-fashioned hard work with drone data and their 3D models to drastically improve jobsite efficiency.

  Using the Skycatch Flight App for Repeatable Missions

  Beck made the decision to use drone data from the very beginning of the project, so they needed an easy way to fly the same site again and again. Grant also wanted to fly manually and get great video to show stakeholders. He picked up a DJI Phantom 4 because of its flight time, high resolution camera, and the assurance of obstacle avoidance. The next step was to find a compatible flight app, and immediately found value in the Skycatch flight app. With saved missions pilots never need to go through the hassle of planning the same flight over and over again. This makes it effortless to capture a visual history of your project, flying the exact same area every time.

  “The Skycatch flight app made it extremely easy to repeat the same mission on a bi-monthly basis. It saves the flight path so we can easily re-fly without having to plan over and over. Currently, I'm flying at 6 sites every month, about two or three a week, so it's plan once, then rinse and repeat,” says Grant. “When it's all done, the processing time is incredibly fast, and allows us to get the data to project teams in the same day, so they can collaborate efficiently. That means that the teams can catch problems when they're still small, and take action right away.”

  Tracking Progress with Overlays and Photo Documentation

  After Grant flies the site with the app and uploads the data, one of the first people to access the data is Shella Chainaranont , Senior Project Engineer. One of Shella's many jobs is to help the superintendents by producing a concrete pour sequencing plan. In a few clicks, she imports the pour plan into Skycatch with the Overlay feature and places the plan on the 2D map, allowing her to very precisely communicate where and when the work needs to be done. We asked Shella to walk us through this process:

  “After processing, I log in to Skycatch and use the 2D map as photo documentation to track progress against the sequencing plan, so we know exactly what was done and where we fell behind, and can immediately update team schedules to make up for any delays or mistakes. The sooner we discover variance from the plan, the easier those variances are to correct. This is why quick turnaround on the drone imagery has made such a large improvement on our project schedule.

“We also used the Overlay feature to overlay the sequencing plan on top of the 2D map. It's really easy to say, 'We're gonna finish grade B and C7 through C9,' but a lot of the guys don't really know where that is. So when you're overlaying it and assigning the actual grid lines to the 2D map, you can measure production very easily, and share the map with our guys that go out into the field.

  “The way it used to work, you'd have to call the guys in to the office for a meeting, print out the plan and do a lot of pointing and drawing, with lots of room for interpretation and error. That used to take at least a few hours a week. With Skycatch, there's no hand holding. There's an exact snapshot of where they are and where they're supposed to be, so they know exactly what they need to do to hit their schedule, saving us at least a few hours a week just in communicating the work that needs to be done.

  “Recovering from setbacks was much easier as well. We fell behind almost 3-4 weeks due to weather, but Skycatch allowed us to make up that extra time and provide accurate handoffs for the next stage of the project.”

  Preventing Problems from Happening: Validating Construction with 3D Point Clouds & Navisworks

  The Site Superintendent, Nathan Hernandez, works closely with Shella and uses the Skycatch-generated 2D maps and 3D point clouds to compare progress with their 2D and 3D site plans. In their daily meetings, they project the Skycatch map onto a whiteboard for the other trades and contractors to easily see and comment on. Shella will combine the most recent Skycatch point cloud with the 3D model of the site in Navisworks and hand it off to Nathan, who can make a detailed assessment of the progress and notice if anything is holding construction back.

  “We had a situation where our drywall contractor noticed in one of our planning models that there were wing walls on top of this one area of our roof. We took a look at the Skycatch capture and saw that we didn't have any framing out there. We were able to determine that those the wingwalls were supposed to be there, so we went through the RFI process to get the engineering for that to happen.

“Having that birds eye view, next to our original models, allowed us to have that perspective. Who knows when we would have caught that. In the past, it could have been upon final completion walk or when the architect comes and gives final signoff on the building. That would have been way more costly and way past when we would have needed to be framing and installing the actual wall. With Skycatch constantly giving us crystal clear updates of progress as the project is being built, we're saving tens of thousands of dollars in rework.”

“We're only paid to build the building once. The correct interpretation, having all these visual aids, allows everyone to be on the same page. To have the same internal image in their mind as to what it should look like. The sooner we can do that, the better off we'll be.”

  “When people are actually able to see and compare what they saw in their mind, this is where I'm going and this is where I want to be. The other trade will say, wait a minute, you can't go there yet, I need to have this and this ready for you. Before you do that, I need to be sure that this is done. That line of communication opens up conversation that we wouldn't have had otherwise. It's incalculable what the value of this communication is. At a minimum it's saving us hours per day per team that uses the data. Summing that across every day and every team here totals a very, very large savings for the project in cost, schedule and risk - it hits our most important KPIs.”

  Making the Customer Happy: Progress Reports with Embedded 2D and 3D Models

  At the end of the day, Grant says, it's about meeting the customer's goals and building something you're proud of. Grant puts together the bi-monthly progress reports that go out to the client and managers at Beck to keep everyone up to date. In addition to drone footage Grant shoots with his DJI Phantom 4, he uses the shareable link feature that embeds the 2D and 3D maps into the progress emails, enabling clients and executives to experience the reality of the site directly.

    “Keeping our clients fully informed and happy is a no-brainer in this industry, and I can't think of a better way to do that than what we've been able to do with Skycatch. You just can't paint a better picture than when you have a drone flyover of a site and the ability to share and embed the Skycatch maps and models with my progress report. The customer has an accurate, close up look at the progress of their site, and they don't even have to leave their office to do so. Before drone data, you just had drawings, or maybe satellite or plane photos, which were always out of date and hugely expensive. For a fraction of the cost of satellite/helicopter photos, our clients get up to date progress reports without having to visit the site. This value is immeasurable to the client.”

Aug 2021 BTO Analysis: Queen’s Arc

One of the seven BTOs launched for Aug 2021, Queen’s Arc at Queenstown may not be located next to an MRT station, but it is surrounded by a slew of F&B options and is within a short walking distance to IKEA Alexandra. If you are making a flat selection in this development, we consider what your best options are.

The site

Queen’s Arc Site

The surrounds of the BTO site were bustling during our site visit. Traffic was heavy along Queensway in the afternoon and will likely become busier with the expansion of Alexandra Hospital on the adjacent site beside Queen’s Arc. The redevelopment for the hospital is scheduled for completion in 2030.

While the BTO isn’t located next to an MRT station—Queenstown MRT on the East-West line is situated more than a 10-min walk away—there are a lot of buses (around 11!) that service the bus stops along Queensway in front of the BTO. These can take you to the CBD and most major neighbourhoods in Singapore.

There are no big shopping malls nearby, but you do get IKEA Alexandra within a short walking distance away. In terms of food options, you have the option of hawker fare at popular hawker centres Alexandra Village and ABC Brickworks as well as fast food eateries and restaurants located at Alexandra Central and Anchorpoint Shopping Centre. The Queen’s Arc site itself will also see a coffee shop.

For supermarkets, the nearest ones are at NTUC Fairprice along Stirling Road and the Cold Storage within Anchorpoint Shopping Centre. Within the BTO site, there will be a minimart as well.

Which unit should you pick for Queen’s Arc?

3-room flats

Most of the stacks here are 4-room units. If you are thinking of getting a 3-room flat, you only have stacks 129 and 131 to choose from. There isn’t a huge difference in these two stacks.

Both stacks are likely to get some afternoon sun, coming in from the northwest direction from March to September. The consolation is that because they are north-south facing, you are likely to experience some decent breeze.

The 3-room stacks are also facing the drop-off point, so you will want to avoid units on the lower floors if you don’t want to be disturbed by drop-off activities e.g. loading and unloading of goods, passenger pick-ups, etc.

The stacks are located relatively near the lifts. Consider investing in privacy screens near your front entrance to maintain more privacy in your apartment.

4-room flats

Afternoon sun: For 4-room stacks, stacks 105, 107, 133 and 135 are the ones to consider if you want to get less of the afternoon sun. Both these stacks will get some afternoon sun coming from the southwest direction from September to March, but the heat will be slightly alleviated as they are partially blocked by the stack before them.

Privacy: If you don’t want neighbours looking in through your front door when they walk by, look to stacks 107, 113, 127 and 133. However, depending on the design of the BTO, they might be able to see through your service yard as they walk along the common corridors. Check HDB’s 3D model for Queen’s Arc for more information.

Traffic noise: Traffic noise is likely going to a problem for stacks 101, 103, 117 and 119, which are facing a road junction and arterial road Queensway.

Car park: Don’t want to be subjected to fumes and the revving of engines? Avoid stacks near the car park if you are picking a unit on the lower floors (the car park has 6 storeys). Stacks 135 and 137 have their service yards looking into the car park, while stacks 105, 107, 109 and 111 have the main areas of the home looking into the car park.

Human activity zones: Because of the higher concentration of human activity in zones like the pavilions, playgrounds and fitness corners, you are likely going to get some noise disturbance if your stack is facing them. These are the stacks most likely affected: 109, 111, 121, 123, 133, 135, 137 and 139.

What’s in the box?

MK06 is Rikomagic’s latest introduction into the crowded android TV box market of devices based on the new and popular Amlogic S905 CPU.

The content of the box is quite standard, with the customary HDMI 2.0 cable, USB-USB OTG cable (for firmware flashing and connection to PC), power adapter, IR remote control, and a quick guide – on top of the MK06 box itself.

Looks and feel

The design is what we’ve come to expect – a black plastic box, not as thin as the Tronsmart S95 Vega Telos, but with plenty of USB ports, and quite light. It carries the SPDIF port, LAN port, an internal antenna, and no physical On/Off button.

Specifications

Benchmarks and Testing

All benchmarks have been repeated 3 times and results have been averaged to give a more accurate reading:

Antutu Benchmark

The Antutu benchmark tests single core performance over multi-core as it is a better indication of the performance of one device over others in most situations.

GPU Mark Benchmark

GPU Mark tests 3d gaming performance and also provides a normalized score according to the used screen resolution (for a more accurate result). The test is quite short and should be taken as a supporting result to that of the more serious 3D Mark benchmark.

A1 SD Benchmark

A1 SD Benchmark tests RAM and flash memory speeds. As can be seen in the provided graphs, RAM is much faster (by a factor of about 40) than flash memory – that is why it’s in smaller amount and is also volatile (does not keep its contents after a reboot).

PC Mark Benchmark

PC Mark test suite shows a mid-rating which may be due to a slow storage/controller. The tests did not go smoothly at first, and needed to be run more than 3 times.

3D Mark Benchmark

3D Mark is a labor intensive 3D animation and gaming Benchmark. It runs a series of 3d heavy game and video animations.

And here is a look at the inside of the MK06 – showing the RAM chips (Samsung), Storage (Hynix), and the cooling of S905 CPU:

Issues and Bugs

Kodi does not work well in multi-tasking – meaning, there may be buffering and/or jerkiness in playback if updating is taking place in the background.

Antutu crashes to the desktop (app list) after test completion, and when trying to do comparisons to some models in latest 6.1.1 version

Kodi cannot write/rename files to USB/external SD card even though it sees them correctly. ES explorer allows it after getting permission.

TS file playback is not consistent. Two 10bit samples were tested, one crashed Kodi almost always, while the other played fine.

Sound bug was manifested in two out of the three games tested (Angry Birds 2 and Walking War Robots).

720p and 1080p over LAN video playback was inconsistent. Sometimes it would play smoothly straight through, but many times it would buffer several times through the file. Regardless if over WiFi or Wired connection.

4k / Ultra HD playback (over LAN) is very problematic. Lots of buffering, audio loss, stutter, and even Kodi crashes on a few occasions.

Network performance

Network performance has been tested using Speedtest.net Internet speed measuring app, in WiFi and in Wired mode. My Internet connection is 200 Mbit Synchronous Fibre connection. Surprisingly, WiFi performance in this box surpasses the Wired performance. (Both in download and upload speeds)

It is worth mentioning, that at first the MK06 arrived pre-installed with Kodi 15.2 which was a little problematic with 4K content (no smooth playback under most conditions, and no TS 10 bit playback at all). After a few days I got a firmware flash update and with it came Kodi 16.1 RC (*). It definitely improved performance, but some issues persisted. As can be seen in both tables, Local playback was quite good (from a fast Micro-SD card). However, when streaming over the network I encountered too many instances of buffering and heavy 4K content did not play well in most cases.

With that in mind, HD ready (720p) and Full HD (1080p) played very well 98% of the time and the box got one of the highest scores in Antutu Video:

Gaming performance

Rooting is pre-installed in the MK06, and so Frame rate and resource usage can be measured:

Asphalt 8 Airborne – a 3d graphic intensive racing game.

GameBench crashed upon logging into the game. The game itself crashed several times while trying to log into Google Play Games (google’s game tracking app). It seems to do with the device’s difficulties with multi-tasking. However, once I started the game without GameBench, it was able to load and play correctly, and quite smoothly.

Angry Birds 2 – a popular 2d action game.

GameBench crashed upon logging into the game. And even though the game managed to start and even allow some game play, a sound bug started even on the initial game level choice screen and into the play screen. Upon completing first level, it also crashed out. Other than that, game play was quite smooth.

Walking War Robots – an online robot warfare game that requires a game-pad (I don’t have a game-pad).

Even though the game managed to start and allowed game play, a sound bug started from the log-in screen and persisted (same as in Angry Birds 2), which made the game annoying to play. other than that, it played quite smoothly, though as on all other TV boxes tested, the robot turret could not be turned, and exiting the game is only possible via the remote “Home” button.

MK06 Conclusions

Did I like it? At first. But as testing progressed, too many bugs and issues were found. This box needs a serious software optimization for it to become a real contender. Rikomagic does listen and make changes, but there are quite a few more to be made.

Would I recommend it? To those with lots of patience, or those who plays directly from add-ons (playback from those is quite good), or from locally connected USB/SD storage. Playback over LAN is still not smooth enough.

Fact is- we all need video editing solutions from time to time. The most ideal type to use, however, is a different thing altogether.

You see, there has been an unending debate about paid and free video editors. While most people would overwhelmingly prefer free, it turns out that the real features are hoarded by the paid versions.

Think about it. Although you might be able to mention numerous free options, most of them pretty much end up being useless. They commonly provide very limited features, which are usually incapable of consistently generating decently edited videos.

And right when you assume that you’ve luckily stumbled on a different one with impressive features, you suddenly discover that you’re permanently stuck with watermarks and the likes. Then to make the situation worse, they probably also throw in a couple of annoying ads.

From limited trial periods to incomplete video outputs, you name it- I’ve tried it all out when it comes to free editors. And frankly, I’ve repeatedly given up on finding a solid one on many occasions.

So, I have to admit that I was not really excited about the VSDC Free Video Editor when I came across it. I thought it would end up being the same old tale with a different title. But surprisingly, things turned out contrary to my expectations…

VSDC Free Video Editor Review: Overview

Developed by Flash-Integro LLC, VSDC Free Video Editor is essentially a nonlinear video editing solution for video, audio, and images.

What does this mean?

Well, if you’ve tried out several standard video editors, you must have noticed the same old framework of placing media in a linear pattern for editing. But VSDC, on the other hand, uses a different non-linear approach. You’re allowed to set any combination or sequence as you work on your videos.

For instance, you can put videos directly opposite each other for a side-by-side outlook, or stack one over the other for a picture-in-picture setup. And that’s not all. There are numerous additional parameters you’re allowed to adjust- like media shape and position.

But, here’s the best thing about it. It’s completely free. The system will not lock you out after some time to force an upgrade.

Now, let’s be honest.  We’ve seen numerous “free” video editing tools hiding behind that fact only to hit you with a caveat after installation. They usually paste ugly watermarks on your media output to market their brands. Or perhaps force you to install secondary apps they’ve partnered with.

Thankfully, VSDC free video editor doesn’t come with either. It doesn’t announce itself to the world with watermarks or introduce extra applications. You basically get what you see.

And speaking of which, it looks and feels like a genuinely professional tool. The interface is packed with a myriad of editing components that allow you to merge, split, cut, rotate, zoom, crop, and much more. You also get to do things like adding subtitles and shapes, hiding elements, blending, correcting colors, blurring, plus placing Instagram-like filters.

All these are possible on a wide array of video formats and codecs- including mainstream ones like AVI and MP4, plus unconventional versions like SWF and RM. The subsequent output options are also extensive, and you can even choose to produce a DVD video from its disc burner feature.

That said, VSDC is not only about free software. There’s an option of upgrading to a PRO version, which costs $19.99 per year.

But that would only be necessary if you need masking, subpixel accuracy, and video stabilization features, plus hardware acceleration to produce videos much faster. Our principal interest at the moment is the free version.

So, is VSDC free video editing software capable of living up to our expectations? How powerful are its features? And how does it even generate revenue if it’s actually free to use?

Well, let’s find out. This VSDC free video editor review covers all the critical matters- its features, editing tools, monetization model, plus its overall suitability.

VSDC Free Video Editor Review: Features

System Requirements

Admittedly, the biggest problem with video editors is the fact that they all require insanely extensive PC resources to run. You pretty much cannot edit a solid HD video without gaming rig-like PC components.

So, of course, I was extremely curious about the system requirements for VSDC free video editor. And it turns out that the minimum you need to run the software without issues is:

Microsoft DirectX 9.0c or later versions

50 MB disk space for installation

256 MB RAM

1024 × 768 pixels display with 16-bit color

Intel or AMD chipset with a clock rate of at least 1.5 GHz

Windows OS (XP SP3 or later versions)

Now hang on a minute. Does this mean you can edit videos on your old PC? Interestingly, yes- a standard PC can comfortably host and run this software. As a matter of fact, it only takes up 200MB of space in your local disk.

And when it comes operating systems, these are the supported ones:

Windows 10

Windows 8

Windows 7

Windows Vista

Windows XP SP3

Sadly, sorry Mac users. You might have to check later if they’ve released a compatible version. Let’s hope they ultimately do.

As for Windows users, let’s see how it actually performs on your PC…

User Friendliness

Once you run the application, you’ll notice that the primary interface is dark with clear labels on the tools. And to help you get the hang of it all, the system greets you with a pop-up that essentially walks you through the process of opening a new project, starting the editing stage, and exporting a project.

However, you don’t have to go through all that. I found the overall interface surprisingly simple and straightforward.

Starting a project, for instance, is as simple as choosing either screen capture, video capture, import content, create a slideshow, or blank project. You’ll see all these options from a projects tab that kicks in after the pop-up tutorial.

In case you need additional help, you can access the “Get To Know Top Feature” option at the bottom. It contains additional pointers about elements like:

3D pro charts

Multimedia combiner

Waveform

Chroma key

UHD and HD

Blending

Video effects

Now, let’s face it. It might take a beginner some time to get used to everything here. But, I guess that’s something we should expect on a software solution laden with such an array of tools. At least the learning curve is not as steep as we’ve seen with Adobe’s Premiere.

When it comes to the actual editing process, I admit that I haven’t experienced any issue so far. The progress has been smooth all along. However, it’s worth noting that the software’s overall performance depends on your PC’s hardware resources.

The rendering speed, for example, increases slightly as you upgrade the hardware components. It’s not the fastest we’ve seen, but it’s satisfyingly good for a free tool. Only Pro users get optimized speeds thanks to the hardware acceleration feature that VSDC unlocks after an upgrade.

Fortunately, that variation doesn’t affect the video quality at all. I was impressed that the VSDC free video editor can support both HD and UHD output resolutions. In fact, it can produce even H265/HEVC, which is a popular codec that compresses the file size without compromising the quality.

Editing Features

Video Capturing Tool

The video capturing tool connects VSDC with all cameras linked to your computer. You can shoot a video directly through IP cameras and webcams, then save or tweak them with the editor.

Screen Capturing Tool

The screen capturing tool comes in handy when you need to prepare solid video tutorials showing your PC display. It essentially prepares a footage of your activities on the computer monitor. You can then capitalize on the editor to adjust the resultant video accordingly.

DVD Burning Tool

Perhaps you’d like to catch up with your videos on a DVD player. Well, this is basically what you use.

The DVD burning tool allows you to save a DVD version of your video directly to a compatible disc in your PC’s optical drive.

Video Converter Tool

The video converter tool controls the conversion process, allowing you to transform a video file from one format to another. In addition to that, you can use it to merge clips into a single file, or split one into several videos.

Export Video to Social Networks

It goes without saying that YouTube is, by far, the biggest video directory on the web. So, of course, it makes sense to provide a tool that basically connects the app directly with YouTube to help you effortlessly upload a video immediately after editing.

Apart from that, you can also export and publish videos on Vimeo, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Create 3D Charts

VSDC free video editor goes beyond typical video editing to help users enhance their professional presentation videos. You can capitalize on the 3D charts feature to create a funnel, point, pyramid, scatter line, pie stacked bar, general bar, and much more- as part of your final video.

Blending Modes and Instagram-Like Filters

By now, you’ve probably tried out color blending on photos. Well, it turns out that you can also play around with this function as you edit your videos on VSDC. In fact, it also offers effects that are as powerful as Instagram filters- one click alone can adjust the temperature, contrast, or grayscale levels.

Sadly, most of the free video editing software available on the web provide extremely basic features that would only be ideal for small beginner projects. VSDC Free Video Editor, however, is one of the few ones that provide the entire stack of features without substantial limitations. It’s pretty solid for a tool that won’t ask you to pay anything or embed watermarks on your videos.

That said, anyone can use this software- from beginners to established professionals in the graphic design space. However, I bet the bulk of its user-base is made of people who regularly post videos on social media. They would certainly appreciate a free editor that combines unlimited 4K video editing with social media uploaders.
