Isekaied as the Yandere Villain!? Pt 2
Part one
It was almost 2 minutes before I realized I was still dragging the crown prince behind me. I quickly dropped his hand and looked at him, not able to hide the embarrassment on my face. Listen- Iâm committed to the bit. I WILL be the crazy jealous fiancĂ©. But⊠Iâm still human ok. I just dragged a full grown man down several halls and a flight of stairs while I spaced out thinking about how Iâm gonna buy my cat premium wet food once I get back home to her.
Itâs fine, Iâm not flustered at spacing out about my cat, my characters just flustered because sheâs been holding the hand of the man sheâs obsessed with, thatâs all!
âWellâŠ. Did you still want to dine and take that walk?â
I expected him to scold me for my mistreatment of Cressida, grow irritated from me dragging him along like this. Instead, he chuckles and threads his arm in mine, and begins escorting me down the hall.
âAbsolutely, have you dined outside by the roses yet? Thereâs this lovely pavilion that I am eager to hear your thoughts on.â
And thatâs how I found myself under an impressive array of roses, all trained up and around a cozy dining area, creating a canopy of green and pink over an intimate tea table. The food was equally impressive, I had to keep reminding myself that the other me is used to this lavish lifestyle, to not gawk at the fancy tiny sandwiches and deserts.
âWell? Is everything to your liking? â
Iâm going off script here, how am I supposed to know how the villainess would react to a romantic scene like this?? If my âevil crazyâ side isnât supposed to be directed at him, and sheâs usually kinda distant and unsure around himâŠ. That means I should probably respond pretty curtly, polite, yet not really engaging. ButâŠ. Iâve already messed that upâŠ. I guess I can be more genuine when itâs the two of us like this. He can think that this version of me is the facade, that Iâm pretending to be pleasant, and then will start to see what a jerk âIâ truly am when Cressidaâs around. BesidesâŠ. I almost feel bad for the villainess. She really just seems like she was shy. Who knows- maybe, if given the opportunity, she really would have opened up more. Itâs clear she loved the prince, and just didnât know how to show it. So, with that thought, I made up my mind.
âItâs breathtaking! Roses are my favorite flower, and Iâve never seen so many kinds in bloom at onceâŠ. Plus the food and company leave little to be desired.â
There you go- slip in some subtle flirting! Iâm not quite sure what time period this is supposed to be, but I get the impression flirting as bit more high class here, and I think I can have some fun with that.
âIâm glad, to be honest I was a bit flustered asking you to dine with me⊠you caught me quite off guard today, but in a good way.â He reaches his hand across the table and places it on my own, âIâd like to do this more often, you and I. I feel like the confines of our current arrangement have left us practically strangers, despite being engaged for several months already. Iâm enjoying just being companionable with you, even if itâs just existing comfortably in the same room.â
Ohhhh, I know Iâm the villain in this story but I canât help but root for him- what a sweetheart! Itâs so obvious heâs been lonely, I canât wait for him and Cressida to fall in love and have a couple of kids that theyâll spoil rotten. And in the meantimeâŠ. Maybe I do have a bit of evil in me, because Iâm going to selfishly enjoy this handsome man treating me to lunches under roses and reading in cozy libraries while I can.
âI know exactly how you feel your highness. Now, you mentioned a walk?â
We spent the afternoon laughing and chatting, and it felt nice to chat without worrying too much about my role. He asked me about that book I picked out earlier, and listened attentively as I caught him up with where Iâm at in the plot. In turn, I asked about what papers heâs been signing, documents heâs been drafting, etc.
The only thing I had to do was send glares to any young ladies we passed, settling my hand on his arm possessively, and I saw their eyes widen and faces disappear behind fans as they whisper to one another. I can picture this illustrated in a manhwa- the nasty princess sinking her claws into the gullible prince⊠hopefully all these ladies will start gossiping and we can really cement this evil persona of mine now that Cressidaâs here.
When we returned to our separate apartments, I explored my rooms a bit until servants came to get me ready for dinner, and I slipped back into the frigid bitch persona. The servant girls dressed me in a slightly stuffy gown, but I had to admit, I looked gorgeous. I sat stiff and straight as they did my hair, forcing myself to be the very picture of cold indifference. I then dismissively thanked them for their help, then sat there awkwardly as they stared at me like I was crazy.
Ohhhh shitâŠ. The original story hadnât prepared me for this. My character was a villain, yes, but a side character for the most part! How was she supposed to act towards her servants? I went over what I knew- the novel showed the villainess alone quite often, usually obsessing over Eric and plotting/stalking. It showed her with Eric, and how distant and awkward their relationship was when together. And then of course the numerous scenes with Cressida where the Villainess did all sorts of heinous things to the sweet girl. But⊠it never depicted her with servants, or even any friends or other nobles. Just⊠Eric and Cressida. Was other me not actually a bitch all the time? Am I being unnecessarily rude right now? Oh god Iâm such an idiot.
The story is told through Cressidaâs point of view- of course thereâs more depth to my own character than I initially thought! The Villianess must be a misunderstood introvert! Unsure of how to act around her crush, sheâs fiercely insecure and jealous of this new girl who doesnât struggle the same way she does. When she notices the prince slipping from her grasp, she acts out against Cressida because she canât bear to lose Eric!
As someoneâs whoâs worked minimum wage jobs and struggled with social anxiety most of my life, I try to be nice to the people just working to survive, but here I am acting like these poor women are the dirt beneath my shoeâŠ. Ok. Um. Well theyâre still standing there in shock, I can fix thisâŠ.
âYou really did a lovely job⊠my hair has never looked so gorgeous, youâre truly talented! And I think the prince will be very pleased with this choice of ribbon!â
There- I was nicer, and I brought it back to Eric, so Iâm still the lovesick fiancĂ© whose entire world is waiting for her in the dining room. I frowned as the servants scuttled out of the room with hurried excuses, all of them looking like they were about to faint. Damn it⊠I canât believe I misread the relationship between us. I probably just ruined their night by being uncharacteristically rude. Iâve gotta learn their names next timeâŠ. Maybe ask them to help me eat some fancy pastries as an apologyâŠ?
I didnât know it, but while I was lamenting how wrong I was about the Villainessâ character, the servants were all gossiping to the others about what had just transpired.
âYouâre telling me she said THANK YOU!?â
âYes!!! And then you should have seen how nervous she got! She just rambled, blurting out such a sweet compliment, and she even tied it back to the prince!â
âI had no idea how precious she was⊠I canât believe I never realized sheâs just shy! In a new place, all alone aside from her new fiancĂ©âŠ. Who I gather sheâs got a bit of a crush on! Poor dear.â
âOhh our sweet girl, Iâm sure it must be hard bonding with the prince, when all you do is sit yards apart and hardly speak âŠâ
âWell I may have some news about that⊠and itâs no wonder she was a bit flustered today, because I saw the two of them in the gardens today! They were both nothing but smiles- absolutely smitten with one another!â
âSuch a lovely girl, and we never knew it all this time!â
Apparently, I had it backwards. The real villainess truly was a 2D, basic character. She was insecure and possessive over the prince, bullying Cressida half to remind her who Eric belonged to, half for the fun of it. But she didnât let on to anyone about the true depth of her love for him. She didnât gossip to her handmaid, didnât ask the servants which dress he would like better. Simply acted as if they did not exist, hardly saying a word to them.
While I thought my blunt âthank youâ was colder than they were used to, and then tried to smooth things overâŠ. It was more words than theyâd heard from me in the whole time Iâd lived in the palace. They lapped it up and declared me their own shy little dove after that.
When I arrived to dinner, I realized why daily dinners werenât exactly a bonding activity for the villainess and Eric. The table was massive, and only held two chairs, one at either end. It felt soâŠ. Cold?
Eric had beat me there, and quickly stood up from his seat, waiting until I sat and a servant pushed in my chair to retake his own seat. He smiled at me and said,
âGood evening, princess.â
He had to project his voice slightly. It wasnât like he was shouting or being loud, it was just the manner of speaking you use when talking to an elderly relative, clearer, and enunciating better so they could hear you.
I replied back, projecting my voice similarly, and found the conversation was, in fact, more awkward than it had been earlier. We ate our food mostly in silence, occasionally one of us would say something and the other would stop moving their utensils on their plate, listening closer as they ask,
âWhatâs that?â
By the time dinner was over and we each went to bed, I felt drained. I could have just been louder I suppose- but itâs so hard to keep up a conversation like that. I know we get along- we had chatted all afternoon after all. But some part of me realized itâs probably good to keep a bit of distance between us, even if Iâve rewritten things to be a bit chummier between the two of us. Cressida needs to swoop in and steal him from me⊠and my job is still to leave that room for her to do so.
Itâs hard trying to be someone else, yet also making sure you lead the plot in the right direction- itâs exhausting! I feel like both director and actress!
Itâs with this in mind that I launch myself into the softest bed Iâd ever felt, and passed out. My first day as princess consort, the Yandere fiancĂ©, complete.
While I was getting acquainted with my feather bed, Eric was speaking with the head waitstaff.
âYes, tomorrow, would you mind adjusting the seating situation? Iâd like for the princess consort and I to be closer together from now on. Yes, and ask my assistant to arrange my schedules like so, Iâve detailed it here. Thank you.â
At the same time, Cressida was recounting her run in with the prince and I to her handmaiden as she finishing unpacking and settling into her familyâs guest apartments. Which, unbeknownst to me⊠was right across the hall.
Aaaa! You survived your first day! And look at you- doing suuuuch a good job staying true to character. Nothing could go wrong⊠right?

,, Love Quest ''
Background character male reader x Protagonist oc
Part 1 Part 2
Tw/s: dub-con at the start, dacryphilia, rough sex, semi-public sex, overstimulation, multiple rounds.
In a world where everyone's assigned a role they have to be, you were one of the many unlucky yet common ones to get the role of a background character. One who couldn't even interact with the protagonist if you wanted. The way it works is through the system. There is a system that essentially controls the world. This system can create scenarios, assign roles, etc. This whole world was built by it. Everyone has to obey it, excluding the protagonist themself, that is. Some even say it's possible for the protagonist to control the system itself but, that's just a rumour.
Of course, the role with the most power is the protagonist. Anyone would dream to have that power. To be the protagonist and have everyone fawn for you, throwing themselves at your feet, worshipping your every step. Not only that, his love interest is the best of the best, the prettiest girl you'd ever be able to lay your eyes on, the one you'd never be able to get with if you weren't the protagonist. Just like any other previous protagonist in this world, the current one is an extrovert, River Sterling. He's a perfect guy in every way. He's very well known due to being the protagonist, but also, he is very talented. It's as if there is nothing he can't do. He's even the top 1 on campus. Very rarely is he seen getting anything under an A+. Despite everyone constantly praising him and falling at his feet, he remained humble.
Just like any other day, you enter the building with books in your hands. You had to return these to the professor after borrowing them for a day. No matter how much you studied, you always remained top 2, and because of that, you were annoyed by River. Of course, it's not his fault that he's the protagonist, but you couldn't help but still feel negatively towards him. Going up the many many stairs, you overhear a girl yelling, maybe at a guy? You're not sure what kind of situation it is, but you guess it is a fight between a couple. "You never even spend time with me! Am I not enough!? Destiny binded us together, and yet here you are, doing nothing to please me, your girlfriend!", it sounded like Aria, the protagonist's main love interest. "Aria, well how would I be able to spend time with you when I feel nothing towards you", River says with a nonchalant tone, shocking you a bit, you've never heard him using that tone before. You stop in your tracks, right in front of the door, where you can hear Aria yelling at him. "Y-you...what!?", you can hear Aria say in disbelief. "H-how is that even possible! I'm who you're supposed to be with, I complete you, I'm your other half!", even without being able to see her, you can tell she's tearing up, probably with a red face. Though despite her crying, you don't hear River comforting her. Which is again, very out of character for him.
Next thing you know, you hear a very loud slap accompanied by running sound towards the door. Before you could even react, the door swings white open, a blonde haired girl running out of the room, knocking you down in the process. You stare at the direction she runs to. "Who are you, why did you eavesdrop", you turn back to River, looking down at you, glaring, even. His once gentle eyes seem to be clouded. You don't even recognize him. "[N-Name]", you gulp, you felt as if the man in front of you was going to eat you whole if you said the wrong thing. "[Name]..? I've heard of you, the top 2, right?", he asks in an almost curious but borderline mocking tone. You remain seated on the floor, books scattered everywhere. "Are you not going to explain yourself?", he raises an eyebrow, walking towards you. Taking this as a sign to get the fuck out of there, you quickly grab the books and try to run off, only to have your shirt grabbed by the tall guy.
"Running off are we?", he looks at you with a questiong expression, why would you avoid him, he wont eat you, will he? With the clock ticking, both of you know that soon, this hall will be packed with students, fortunate for you, unfortunate for him. He doesn't want you to go before he can pry some information out of you.
Thinking of a plan, he quickly drags you to the room, shutting the door behind him so you won't be able to run out without him stopping you mid-way. With his hands crossed, he asks you once more, "Why were you eavesdropping?", his tone even more demanding. "I was on my way to the professor's office, I just overheard some things. Can I go now?", you give a quick explanation, wanting to get out of this situation as quick as possible. Though, he wouldn't allow it. "How much did you hear?", "not much, please let me go now," you walk towards the door, turning the door handle only to see it's locked. It shouldn't be. The door can only be locked from the inside, and by the looks of things, River didn't have time to lock the door.
[System: Love Quest]
In order to proceed, please engange in intercourse.
And just as the system suddenly appeared in their face, a percentage bar appeared in the corner of the room and it stood tall, at 0%. With one look, the both of you knew what it wanted. "What the fuck!?", you yell, looking at the window and then at the protagonist who clearly isn't phased. He only sighs, rolling his eyes, as if he was annoyed by this notification. "This shit again", he whispers, loud enough for you to overhear on accident. He's gone through this before..? is what you were thinking. You've almost never gotten a window from the system, let alone one with any sexual themes. If River wasn't shocked, that means it's probably a common occurrence for him.
The two of you stare at one another for an uncomfortable period of time. As if time stopped for a moment. "This is getting real annoying", he says, sighing and stepping towards you. You back away until your back is pressed on the door making you unable to escape as he grabs your chin, lifting it up and looking at you. "You'll make do", he says before pressing his lips onto yours. Out of shock, you try to push him off, wanting to yell at him. How could he, a protagonist, be kissing someone like you? You're what others would perceive as not worthy of being in his presence let alone be kissing him. Yet here you are, getting your mouth explored by the man himself. Your eyes were opened from shock but you closed it after a few seconds, wanting to savour this moment. His hand made its way to your cheek. He was very gentle with both his hand and lips, making you lean into his touch. Before long, you felt as if you were running out of breath, how long can he even kiss you for!? Fortunately for you, he let go of the kiss, panting and trying to catch his breath after that incredible make out session. "We're not done yet", he says, pointing out the elephant in the room which is the percentage bar which still stands tall at 0%, no progress has been made, making the room inaccessible from the outside. The doors being magically locked also kept anyone from getting out before the goal was met. You knew you had no other choice but to do this in order to get out, as much as you were annoyed by the guy as a student, you couldn't deny his charm, the way his eyes looked into yours, the way his grazed his thumb over your lips. Who wouldn't fall head over heels for him? Anyone would die to be you at this very moment.
Without any hesitation, you managed to gather the courage to pull him into another kiss, you could feel him smiling into the kiss as he reciprocated. Moving his hands to your hips, trailling down to your clothed butt. Gropping and fondling it before he eventually unzips your pants, letting them slide down to your ankles. Leaving your bottoms almost bare if not for your briefs covering your private part. "Ahm...agh", the both of you moaned into the intense kiss before letting go. "You're a good kisser", you comment, gasping for air once more. He smirks, "of course, I'm not the protagonist for nothing", he chuckles a bit. You felt hands slipping into your briefs, making its way to your ass, gripping it even more now. He really seems to be enjoying gropping you. You felt his fingers move closer and closer to your hole before he inserts a finger into you, causing you to grip his arms in shock. "A-agh..!", you let out a surprised moan, his finger wiggling around, trying to get your hole to relax a bit, "you're so tense, [Name], loosen up a little", his inserted another finger, making you unable to keep your composure no matter how much you try to.
You feel his fingers thrusting into you, as if trying to get you to cum from his fingers alone. His long and slender fingers were quite deep in you. It wasn't long before he added another finger. And now that three fingers are going in and out of your hole, you feel as if you're aboit to reach your climax. You close your eyes, moaning loudly. He took notice to this and immediately stopped his fingers as if knowing you were about to cum. You're now puzzled by his actions, why did he stop? "I don't want you cumming from just my fingers, that wouldn't be fun now would it?", you then hear the sound of pants unzipping, realizing it was from him. He pulled his hard cock out of his briefs. You stared at it for a while before he snapped you back to reality, "eyes up here, angel", he teased, giving you a pet name while he was at it. "What? Have you never seen a cock this big?", you definitely haven't. It wasn't just long, just looking at the girth of it made you shiver a bit, how will that even fit. It was befitting of a protagonist, he's perfect in every way, even in his physical attributes. "Enough staring, angel", he says as he suddenly picks your legs up. You instinctively put your arms around him tightly so you don't end up falling, "hey!", you yell, this wasn't a pleasant surprise, you could've fallen, "relax, you're quite light", he is very strong afterall, he's joined almost every single sport available at this point.
You decide to put your trust in him, he's able to hold you up for over a minute now, there's no way he'll suddenly drop you, that'd ruin the moment on top of you getting hurt. After the shock wore off, you notice something poking at your hole, "hm..?", you let out a hum of confusion, turning your head down only to see his cock at your entrance, wanting to be inside you. "Are you ready to be filled up like you've never had before?", the now cocky-like protagonist asks with a slight chuckle at the end. You nod and immediately feel his cock thrust up inside of you, almost halfway in already. He grunts at how tight you are despite him having prepared your sweet little hole for his cock beforehand. Trying his best to get his cock all the way into your hole as you moan out in pain and pleasure, "relax why don't you?", he gives a teasing smile. Leaning in for a kiss, he manages to get you to relax and without another word, thrusts the rest of his cock into you, shocking you once more. You accidentally bite his lip in the process, drawing a bit of blood. "Agh!", he pulls back, tapping his finger on his lip and seeing that blood is coming out of the wound. He focuses on you once more, as if signifying he's about to move. You give a slight nod and he starts to thrust in and out of you, slowly and sensually at first. "You're really warm inside", he comments while thrusting into you, looking into your eyes as you manage to keep them open.
After a while of the sensual and slow fucking, he gets tired of it, wanting to thrust into you quicker. And so, he does as he wants. Thrusting into you quicker this time, rougher. You close your eyes and tighten the grip on his upper back, scratching his skin through his shirt. Your moans are no longer considered quiet, you're full on moaning your head out. That was before you realized the bell had rung, students were on their way to class and they'd pass by this specific room. You bite your lip in order to muffle out the moans, keeping it somewhat quiet in order to not get caught. River on the other hand, didn't like this one bit. He wants to hear your delicious and sweet moans, you should let them out for him to hear. "Stop biting your lip, angel, let me hear you", something in his voice made you want to obey his words, and for some reason, you find yourself no longer biting your lip, now you're just letting it all out, moaning and crying out for him.
The faster he went, the more you felt like you were about to reach your climax. He also seemed to be close. The both of you sweating, moaning, grunting. "I'm, agh, gonna cum...!", he says as he shoots his load all in you, coating your inner walls with his seed, some even dripping out. At that moment, you also came, releasing your juice all over your stomach. With the two of you now panting and gasping for air, River carries you to a nearby table, letting the two of you rest for a while. Just then, the door swings wide open, "Who the fuck was making all that noise!?", a teacher yells into the room, seemingly staring straight at them. The teacher looks around in confusion, "huh...I was so sure there was someone here...", He then turns his heels and walks back out, closing the doors on his way. You who were covering your face due to this, looked in the direction the teacher was in confusion, "did..he not see us..?", you ask River, to which he replies, "the system did that, probably", as if the system heard the man, it dings and the both of you turn your heads towards the bar of percentage now sitting at a solid 30%, "huh? 30%?", you say out loud in even more confusion, "it wants us to have sex and get it up to 100%", River says without missing a beat, "ready for round two?"
âââ
"Agh..! To..oo big, ahghh...", you try to say in-between moans, overstimulated by his cock and the way he bites your nipples. "You're taking me so well", at least he's enjoying it, a lot. You even wonder if he has an infinite stamina, but of course your thoughts were drowned by the time he came in you for the third time. How many rounds has it even been? The bar has been stuck at 99% for so long, when will this end..You're so overstimulated at this point, River's cock has been relentlessly fucking you dumb. You can't even think anymore, nor can you let out any coherent words. It's been at least a couple of hours since the both of you started this, why hasn't it ended. Your cheeks are wet, wet from the tears which had been and are still rolling down your face. He loves witnessing your debauchery. Your clothes have been discarded to the side by now, you don't know where but they're on the floor somewhere. His thrusts get faster and faster, you didn't even know he could go this fast but here he is, fucking you with inhuman speed. "C'mon..ah..come with me, my angel...agh", he moans and grunts while saying this. Then his thrusts stop and you feel even more liquid filling your already over-filled hole, making it impossible to be kept inside and most of it dripping out your hole and onto the floor which has a pool of both yours and his cum. At that very moment, you feel your whole body give out as your vision blurs until you eventually black out.
âââ
What happened in the room stayed in the room. Your life went on as usual, the normal schedule. Though, one thing has definitely changed. That is the fact that you are now dating the protagonist despite still having the role of a 'background character' . Everyone was shocked but learned to accept it. Who are they to defy the protagonist's wishes? One person in particular wasn't happy about this. None other than his ex, Aria. Everyone saw that coming from a mile away, though, so nobody paid her any mind. After that, River took any and every class you took. Science? You'd see him sit there with an empty seat next to him, looking up at you and asking with a big smile, "come! Sit here, angel!", while patting the seat next to him to signal for you to sit. PE? He'd always get you into his team no matter what. No matter how bad the other team wanted you on theirs, they'd never have you as you now belong to River. Being in the same class as you had its advantages. That is, being able to fuck you in class without anyone noticing. To be frank, the both of you found it out on accident. It was during class when the both of you got a new love quest. You thought of leaving the class to finish but the system didn't let you. It wanted the both of you to do it at that very moment. When he took the initiative and pulled your shirt up to bite your nipples, not a single student nor the teacher had any reaction, it was as if the both of you were protected by an invisible bubble that allowed the quest to take place. That, combined with the fact the teacher couldn't see the both of you the first time, confirmed your suspicions that they were indeed unable to see you.
From that day forward, the two of you almost always got a love quest every single day of school. The session would last at least 2 hours, leaving both of you a hot sweaty mess once it was over and done with. You'd always be embarrassed and extra tight during these. The way you felt eyes on you, it was as if they could see you, but in reality, they really can't. You'd tighten up at the thought of them watching you, making River grunt even more due to your tightness. He'd smirk and ram even harder into you once this happens. "Naughty boy, you get off to the thought of people watching, huh?", he'd always tease you. These love quests would be random, though. Despite it happening every day, the two of you could never predict when it'd occur. It could be very early in the morning, in class, or even during an activity. It was always random, so why would you always see River getting hard even before the love quest appear...? It's probably nothing. You're just paranoid.

Apologies for the wait. My schedule's been real hectic lately. This is not proofread, so please excuse the probably many mistakes/typos!

the house of daena was quiet, the air thick with the comforting scent of old books and polished wood; soft chatters among akademiya students drifted through the air, a gentle hum that mingled with the rustling of pages as scholars immersed themselves in their studies.Â
at a corner, you sat cross-legged, surrounded by volumes of scholarly tomes. yet, the real challenge before you wasnât the big words or thick pages âbut a far more irritating one: your shoelaces.
no matter how many times you tried, the laces refused to cooperate. they twisted and knotted themselves in ways that made you feel as if they had a mind of their own. you tugged at them over and over again, your small hands growing clumsy with frustration, making your struggle feel even more monumental.Â
you let out a small, exasperated sigh, your cheeks growing warm with the mounting irritation. who lets a five-year-old wear shoes with laces anyway?
a few feet away, sitting at a low table, was a boy a few years older than you, absorbed in a thick book that looked far too advanced for his age; the dense text and intricate diagrams didnât seem to faze him at all. his expression remained one of calm detachment, his eyes moving over the pages meticulously. though even amidst his immersion in the book's complex diagrams and equations, your struggle still drew his attention.
with a sigh that sounded more out of obligation than concern, he set his book aside with precise care and approached you with a smooth, deliberate stride. his expression remained neutral, his eyes barely meeting yours as he knelt beside you.
âyouâre having trouble with your laces,â he remarked, his tone even and matter-of-fact.
you looked up and nodded at the boy, relief evident in your eyes. âcan you help me?â you asked, your voice wavering slightly with embarrassment.
without a word, he reached for your laces. you watched as he deftly untangled the mess youâd created, his movements precise and unhurried. with a few twists and loops, he had the laces neatly tied in no time. âthere,â he said, standing up and brushing his hands off.Â
âthank you for helping me... umââÂ
âalhaitham,â the boy, who you now knew as alhaitham, spoke in a calm voice.
you smiled in return, relieved. âthank you, alhaitham.â
âit was nothing. iâm glad i could assist.â he said before glancing down at your shoelaces again, his tone as impersonal as ever.Â
you reached into your pocket and pulled out a small, brightly wrapped lollipop, its cheerful wrapping seemed almost too vibrant for his reserved demeanour. nevertheless, you held it out to him, âi want to give you this,â you said earnestly. âas a small token of my appreciation!â
he glanced at the lollipop, then back at you. you simply tilted your head in response. after a brief moment, he accepted it with a slight nod. âthanks,â he said simply before pocketing the sweet.
you smiled, âiâm [name], by the way.â
âiâll remember that,â he replied, his tone softening slightly.Â
with that, you gathered your books, carefully stacking them in your arms as you rose to your feet. âi need to go now. see you around, alhaitham!â you grinned and gave a small wave before turning to leave, your footsteps growing faint as you walked away.
and though little-you didnât know it at the time, that small act of kindness, wrapped in bright paper, would linger in his memory for years to come.
years passed. by now, it was clear that alhaitham was a prodigy, the sharpest of minds among those his age âa teenager admired by many, regardless of age. yet, such exceptional talent often attracts a level of jealousy that goes beyond mere admiration.
however, much like his aloof demeanour, he remained indifferent to the opinions and whispers of displeasure of others, even now, as he stood surrounded by students, their voices dripping with sarcasm and disdain.
"so, alhaitham," one of them jeered, "being a genius must be lonely, huh? too smart to have any real friends?" the others snickered along, clearly revelling in his deliberate silence. they envied the recognition and success he had achieved âthings they could only dream of, and that envy fueled their petty desire to bring him down, even if only for a fleeting moment.
enough was enough.Â
âhey, give it a rest,â you interjected, your tone dripping with sarcasm. âoh, wait âitâs not like you have anything better to do than make fun of someone whoâs actually achieved something, right?â
the laughter from the group began to die down as they turned their attention to you, the tension in the air thickening.Â
you tilted your head in feigned curiosity. âor is it the only thing youâre good at?â
the studentâs face twisted into a scowl, clearly caught off guard by your retort. after a moment of fumbling for words, he muttered defensively, âwhatever. like youâre so perfect yourself.â
you crossed your arms and raised an eyebrow. âseriously? thatâs the best youâve got?âÂ
you met their gazes with a defiant smirk, enjoying the way their bravado faltered under your words. âitâs one thing to have nothing between those ears of yours, but thereâs no need to be a jerk about it.â
they hesitated for a moment, stung by your remarks and clearly feeling their egos take a hit, they found themselves at a loss for words. finally, one of them muttered something under his breath before they all turned and slunk away, embarrassed.
as the last of their footsteps faded, you turned back to alhaitham, who was watching you with a slightly raised eyebrow. "you didnât have to do that," he murmured. you shrugged, offering him a wry smile. "i know. but i wanted to.â
âbesides, someone has to keep those idiots in check."
alhaitham regarded you for a moment longer before the corner of his mouth twitched ever so slightly. "thank you.â you caught the subtle shift in his expression, the faintest hint of a smile playing on his lips. it was rare to see him react this way, and it made your small victory feel all the more rewarding.
you couldnât help but grin.Â
ââyou smiled!â giggling, you leaned in closer to him, as if sharing a secret. âi didnât think iâd ever see that day.â
âno, i did not.â his expression snapped back to its usual deadpan, as if his momentary lapse had never happened.
âno? well, then you should smile more.â you slid into the chair next to him,Â
âwhy?âÂ
you pulled out your book and opened it to the page marked by your bookmark. âyou look good when you smile,â you said casually, your eyes still focused on the material in front of you as you unwrapped a candy and chewed on it, savouring the sweet taste.
alhaitham didnât respond immediately, his gaze fixed intently on the pages in front of him. though when he briefly turned his head to the side, his stoic expression faltered.
a faint smile tugged at the edges of his lips; he angled the book slightly higher, hiding his expression from view, while the subtle curve of his lips remained just barely visible.
it was a fleeting moment ânearly imperceptible, but unmistakably there.
âhappy birthday, [name]!âÂ
you clink your glass with dehyaâs, the sound of the toast ringing out amidst the lively chatter. she grins and downs her drink in one swift motion, her laughter echoing as the others join in, raising their glasses to you.Â
nilou approaches you with a soft smile, her eyes sparkling with excitement. âi have something for you,â she says, holding out a small, intricately wrapped box. you open it to find a delicate bracelet nestled inside.Â
âi hope today brings you as much joy as you bring to us.â you smile and thank her as she helps you fasten the bracelet around your wrist.Â
you glance over to where alhaitham is sitting, only to find him already looking at you; he gives you a slight nod before burying his face back into his book. though you notice that alhaitham's usual noise-cancelling headphones are conspicuously absent, as if choosing to be fully present, especially when you're near.
suddenly, you feel a tap on your shoulder. when you turn around, youâre greeted with kavehâs unmistakable grin, âsurprise!â he exclaims with a flourish, his voice brimming with infectious enthusiasm. he extends a beautifully hand-carved, ornate wooden box to you, âgo on, open it!â he urges, barely containing his excitement.
with a nod, you carefully lift the lid, revealing the contents inside. the box is lined with rich velvet, and nestled within is a tiny, intricately designed music box and a set of miniature sculptures âas expected, his craftsmanship is nothing short of impeccable. you thank him graciously and carefully set the box down on the table beside tighnariâs gift.Â
as the evening unfolds, you notice alhaitham occasionally glancing up from his book, his gaze fixing on you, each glance subtly drawing your attention. his eyes, typically so absorbed in the pages, now linger on you with a soft intensity that speaks volumes.
itâs obvious that the night has come to an end when you glance to your side and canât help but chuckle at the sight of kaveh, completely blackout drunk and slumped over the couch.Â
âdonât worry, weâll handle him,â cyno heads for the door after lifting kaveh over his shoulder with ease; he shares a knowing glance with tighnari. âenjoy the rest of your night!â with a final wave, they disappear out the door, leaving you and alhaitham alone in the cozy tranquillity of your home.Â
âlooks like itâs just us now,â you say, sinking onto the sofa beside him and stifling a yawn, the night clearly taking a toll on you.
âindeed,â alhaitham replies, his gaze softening as he looks over at you. he reaches behind him and holds his hand out towards you with his fist closed.
âhere, a reward for your hard work,â he opens his palm to reveal a small piece of your favourite candy resting on it. âhappy birthday, [name].â
the light from the candles flickers softly, casting a warm glow that dances across the room. it bathes the space in a gentle radiance, highlighting the perfect angles of his face and making him look all the more handsome.
alhaitham had never been a big fan of sweets. to him, they were a trivial indulgence, neither particularly enticing nor off-putting.Â
but for you, he might learn to like it more.Â
after all, if all it takes is a piece of candy to see your smile âsweeter than any treat known to mankind, then maybe there's a reason to enjoy them after all.
as you begin to nod off, he gently strokes your hair and carefully adjusts your position, guiding your head to rest on his chest.
with a soft sigh, he blows out the candles.Â
perhaps rationality has its limits when it comes to matters of the heart, for he canât help but feel that love, in all its irrationality, defies the logic he clings to so fiercely. âloveâ didnât follow the neat, predictable patterns of reason âit was wild, unpredictable, and utterly beyond his control.Â
yet, despite its chaos, or perhaps because of it, he was okay with it âhe was okay with you.
âis it necessary for you to leave?âÂ
âsorry haitham, it's for my research. but iâll be gone for just a few years, and we'll cross paths again before you know it.âÂ
just a few.. years? you mustïżœïżœve really underestimated how long thatâll feel. he lets out a disapproving huff, his brows knitting together. â...where will you be going?â
âfontaine,â you replied, âthe leylines there hold the key to my research, and itâs an opportunity i canât pass up.â you hesitate for a moment before adding softly, âi wish you could come along⊠but with your duties as the acting grand sage, i understand that itâs not possible.â
âi suppose youâve already made up your mind.â
you nodded, trying to muster a reassuring smile. âi have. but iâll make sure to write whenever i can!â he studies your face for a long moment, as if committing every detail to memory, afraid heâll forget the moment you turn your back to him.Â
âjust... promise me youâll take care of yourself,â he finally said, his tone more tender compared to a moment ago. âand donât lose yourself in your research.â
you reach out, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. âi promise, haitham.â you open his palm and place a small candy in the centre before closing his fingers around it. âsomething to remember me by,â you add, your voice barely above a whisper as you look up at him.
his eyes trail your figure, his hands clutching the candy tightly, the wrapping paper crinkling in his fist as you start to walk away. midway, you pause, turning around to look at him once more, you flash him a warm smile before waving goodbye.
this time, unlike the first time you met, he returns the gesture with a wave of his own.
itâs unusual, uncharacteristic for alhaitham to lose his focus so easily.Â
the subtle crease in his brow âa dead giveaway to anyone who knew him well; and being his roommate, kaveh noticed it first.
leaning against the table, he glanced at the open book, then back at alhaitham. "you know, that page wonât read itself," he quipped, a playful smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
alhaitham didnât bother looking up, his finger idly tracing the edge of the page. "iâm well aware." after a moment, he finally turned the page with a slight frown, his mind clearly not on the book.
cyno, sitting across from him, folded his arms and leaned back in his seat. "youâve been staring at that same paragraph for nearly an hour.â he remarks, his tone laced with amusement. tighnari raises his eyebrows, lightly swirling the drink in his cup, âitâs rare to see you this distracted. must be somethingâor someoneâtruly exceptional."
alhaitham finally looks up, meeting their gazes with a flat expression, âyou all certainly have a lot of free time," he remarked dryly.
cyno shrugs, shaking his head. "youâre just making it too easy, alhaitham."
tighnari, however, leans forward slightly, his gaze softening with genuine concern despite the playful edge in his voice just a minute ago. âbut seriously,â he adds, âitâs perfectly fine to admit you miss [name]. we all do, after all, it has been a year.â
alhaitham sighs heavily, closing the book with a soft thud. âiâm perfectly fine."
"sure you are," kaveh drawls, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "itâs not like youâve been more irritable than usual âor, i donât know, distracted by a certain someone whoâs not here."
for once, alhaitham doesnât offer a retort. instead, he quietly unwraps a candy and slips it into his mouth, letting its sweet taste wash over him.
but that is all the answer they need.Â
unbothered from the looks he receives from his friends, he signals the manager over, âboss, a box of macaroons to go, please.âÂ
later that night, alhaitham sits in his room âhe absently reaches for the box of macaroons but his hand lands on the bright candy wrapper crumpled on the table, though it seems out of place amidst the quiet room, it remains a perfect, poignant reminder of you, in his heart.
the notion of your sweetness is tantalising, one that mingles with the lingering taste of the macaroons on his palate, making him yearn for the real experience, to discover if you, too, could leave such a lasting impression.
âand truth to be told, i really missed you too. there's so much more i want to share with you, so many things iâve seen and felt that only you would truly understand. but lucky for us, iâll be at l'encre des marĂ©es in the court of fontaine, for the next few days! haitham, come visit me, will you?
alhaithamâs footsteps echo softly against the cobblestone street as he approaches the address you gave him.
a bookstore, huh. it seems fitting enough.
he folds your letter and slips it into the pocket of his coat; the gentle chime of the bell above the door announces his arrival. the warm, ambient light of the store envelops him âa voice rings out, welcoming him, but he pays it no mind.
he moves silently between the tall bookshelves, his gaze sweeping over the interior, searching for you within the labyrinth of aisles. though with no sign of you in sight, a faint crease forms between his brows, a subtle yet telling sign of his disappointment.
he comes to a stop in front of one of the shelves, the familiar scent of paper and ink wafting around him. might as well get something, he thinks. his hand hovers over the spines, his fingers brushing lightly against them; the choice is almost arbitrary, driven more by habit than intent.Â
the title barely registers in his mind as he turns away from the shelf. with the book in hand, he makes his way towards the counter. he places the book down with a soft thud, and lets his mind drift to you âyour latest letter, the anticipation of seeing you here, the subtle disappointment of your absence; he imagines the sound of your voice, the way you might have greeted him had you been there, the little gestures that are make you, so distinctly, you.Â
the cashierâs voice pulls him back to the present. âthank you for your patronage!â the words are accompanied by the soft rustling of paper as the bag is handed over to him. he reaches out to take it, but just as heâs about to withdraw his hand, something else is pressed into his palm âa small lollipop.
he blinks, momentarily caught off guard. what? is this a⊠fontaine custom? he turns the lollipop over in his hand, the cashierâs voice continues, cheerful and slightly sing-song. âdonât forget to visit us againââ
or is he losing his mind? because the sound of your voice, so clear and familiar, ââalhaitham.â echoes his name as if you were standing right infront of him.
his eyes snap up, eyes widening ever so slightly as he looks at the cashier. and there you are, behind the counter, your gaze meeting his with a familiar warmth. he finds himself staring at you, the very person he had been hoping to see; you smile at him, the same smile he had imagined countless times... and his heart still skips a beat.
âlife here in fontaine has been quite a journey.â you stroll side by side, alhaitham listens quietly, absorbing every detail as you recount your journey. your research, originally projected to take more time, has progressed exceptionally well; the results are promising, and youâre now ahead of schedule, which means that youâll be back in sumeru in less than a weekâs time (much to his pleasure).
as you both turn a corner, you suddenly stop and turn to face him. âiâve been doing all the talking so far,â you smile up at him, âwhat about you?â
ânothing much, things have beenâŠâ he begins, pausing as he searches for the right words. he glances around, just as street lamps flicker to life before continuing, â...rather routine.â
(heâs not lying, no, never to you. âroutineâ as in routinely thinking about you nonstop âyes, thatâs the underlying meaning, though his outward implication is quite⊠mundane.)
though what you didnât quite expect next was for alhaitham to extend his hand towards you, his pinky raised in a gesture like an earnest request for a pinky promise. dumbfounded, you chuckle softly, âwhatâs this for?âÂ
without waiting for an answer, you decide to indulge him, linking your pinky with his. as your thumbs briefly touch, you catch the look in his eyes âserious, yet with a softness that makes your heart skip. âa promise that iâll be by your side as long as sugar tastes sweet,â he says, his voice low and sincere.
he gently turns his hand downward, his fingers sliding smoothly between yours, interlocking them in a firm yet tender grip. slowly, he lifts your hand to his lips, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to the back of it. âso, come back with me, [name].â
his thumb continues to trace lazy circles on your skin, drawing you closer. leaning in, his breath is warm against your cheek, the space between you vanishes as he tilts his head slightly, his lips hovering just a breath away from yours, close enough that you can almost taste the promise in his words.Â
his eyes flicker down to your lips, then back up. you catch his gaze and a small smile starts to form, âyou donât have to ask me twice.â
your eyes flutter shut as his lips brush softly against yours âand he tastes the first bite of a sun-warmed strawberry, a burst of sweetness that lingers on his lips, leaving him craving more. utterly intoxicating, like the scent of honey carried on a warm breeze, filling the air with a fragrance that makes him close his eyes and breathe deeply, savouring the moment.
you taste just like summer âvivid, unforgettable, and leaving him yearning for those endless days and nights, where his world is alive with sparking memories he clings to as the seasons change; so much so that even when autumn's chill begins to settle, he can't help but reach out for the warmth that only your presence can bring.
but most importantly,
you taste unbelievably sweet.
good question google

you're the only one that can tame diluc's anger. reader is called 'lady' but other than that no pronouns are mentioned, fluff, diluc being a softie in this, 1.2k wc.
your husband is notorious for being the stoic, level-headed character that he is. unperturbed by all things so long as mondstadt was safe and at peace, and when the city had someone as diligent as diluc protecting it, there was virtually nothing that ever made him falter. as much as you love and adore his rationality and straightforwardness, there was nothing that you hated more than his unwillingness to compromise in an argument.
his bullheadedness caused you to storm out of the manor, trek through the expansive fields of the winery in order to reach mondstadt. there, you calmed yourself down with a quick bite from good hunter before heading to the library because a quick rant to lisa would generally soothe the anger you felt.Â
however, your original plans of returning to the winery changed when a book that was recently returned caught your eye. noticing your fleeting glance, the electro-user recommends it, detailing its popularity and captivating storyline.
when lisa feels so passionate about something, how could you not be curious? she rarely gets a sentence out without a yawn nowadays so to hear her speak animatedly about a book is bound to get your attention.
without a second thought, you postpone your plans of returning home and find a comfortable couch to sit on before reading.
you must have spent longer than planned, and a favonius soldier barging through the library doors indicates as such, whose expression so panicked you would have thought there was a hillichurl invasion. he takes a quick scan of the room and relief floods his posture when his eyes land on you.
âlady y/n, you must come with me this instant,â the soldier demands after a quick salute.
âwhat is the issue?â you ask, undeniably curious.
âmaster diluc is searching for you and i fear that he is very angry. not even barbara can calm him, some of floraâs flowers have been singed, and he might burn down monstadt next, please come with me before itâs too late!â
you know that the soldier is merely exaggerating because as long as you were in mondstadt, diluc would never dare harm the city. moreover, he would never dare lay a finger on the city he loves, but his anger is nothing to take lightly, and you understand the knightâs fear.
although, you really donât want to meet your husband.
âfine, i suppose i can classify this matter as urgent,â you sigh. âlisa, could you please let me borrow this book? iâll return it in two weeks.â
ânot a problem dear. better run along now before your husband supposedly burns down the city,â the librarian waves her hand, beckoning you to go, so you do.
the knight leads you to the whereabouts of angelâs share and before you could even turn the corner, you hear a mix of kaeya and dilucâs voices.
âi donât know where y/n is, which is why i have my knights running around to find-â exclaims the calvary captain, beginning to sound perplexed at his brotherâs uncharacteristic display of irrationality and franticness.Â
observing the scene, you see your husband right in kaeyaâs face and suddenly you understand why the knight who brought you here was so frightened. the air had risen significantly in temperature and if you were a moment too late, he actually might have drawn out his claymore.
his red eyes glance behind the navy-haired to see you and in the blink of an eye, the red-haired pushes past the knights before storming down the street, right towards you.Â
âwhere have you been?â diluc asks, stopping only two feet before you. the deep frown on his face is evident of his displeasure, but the concern swimming in his eyes tell you that you donât need to be scared.
âi was reading in the library,â you gesture to the book you were holding. âenjoying a peaceful afternoon until i got word that you were creating a ruckus.â
the winery owner visibly relaxes, tension flooding from his shoulders whilst a gloved hand runs through his hair, causing his bangs to fall messily in front of his eyes. âletâs talk about this at home,â he states, tone returning to normal as he takes your book from your hand, his vacant hand finding yours. dilucâs grip is tight and unrelenting, leaving no room for you to slip away as he turns to apologise to the knights of favonius.
then, the two of you leave through the main gates.Â
âare you still upset?â your husband asks and you squeeze his hand.
âa little,â you murmur before a small laugh escapes your lips, âbut i wish you would have seen how terrified that knight was when he found me. it entertained me quite a bit, guess a thank you is in order for that.â
diluc doesnât say anything but the guilt dripping from him is practically tangible, pooling around your feet and reminding you of the unpleasant argument you had earlier. as the sun begins to dip below the horizon and the sky turns a calming shade of orange, you realise just how long you spent away from him. no wonder why he was so frantic about finding you.Â
âthe next time you storm out of the winery, can you at least let me know where you are going?â
you laugh at his proposition, unsure of how to respond but he stops. youâre forced to stop too when his unwavering grip makes you turn and look in the ruby eyes that set ablaze in the gold of the setting sun. dilucâs beauty is truly undeniable, and itâs moment like these that make you feel a little jealous that he was graced with such a gift.Â
âiâm serious, y/n, you worried me to end when you didnât return after three hours. i thought something might have happened to you.â his gaze falls downward with his soft confession. âyour safety is the most important thing to me, even when things between us are rocky, because- well, you knowâŠâ
your heart tightens and the step you take closer to him is instinctual, letting go of his hand to hold his face instead. âiâm sorry, i didnât mean to worry you.â
âno, you have nothing to apologise for, it was my fault for being so unbearable in the first place,â the red-haired shakes his head, his hands finding a home on your waist. âiâm sorry too.â
âi forgive you,â you hover a kiss over his nose, causing it to scrunch at the sensation. when you lean back, the softness in his eyes and smile is unmatched and youâre grateful that youâre the only one with the luxury of seeing him as such. the only person heâs let into his kingdom of concrete walls is you, gifting you a more vulnerable side of him that the rest of the world has not seen in years.Â
âi love you,â you murmur and diluc hums, tapping your waist three times in response. âoh but diluc, you must tell me how worried you were over me, i think i deserve to know.âÂ
the red-haired rolls his eyes before dragging you down the hilly path back home. you are perhaps the only one in mondstadt who could perplex him to no end, but that is just another testament of the love he holds for you.Â

to come home
pairing: zayne x gn!reader
content: fluff and comfort, soft yearning, kissing, suggestive if you squint?, lighthearted, established relationship, unedited
a/n: i just think zayne deserves a quiet life where he can be the little spoon ⥠coming back to writing after so long is scary but hi âĄ
wc: 1.1k
Itâs 11:01, the harsh blue glow of his computer screen illuminates his office, and Zayne is thinking of the comfort of home.Â
Not the physical structure - all concrete and glass, hard walls enclosed around structured spaces that begged for routine, but the warmth that often resided within.
You, curled up on the couch, book in hand and eyes slowly skimming through the words. You, perched on the counter top, sipping a sweet latte and sighing contently. You, watering the plants on his windowsill and whispering little words of encouragement. You, a warm sun that cast light into every room you stepped into, leaving the space a little darker, colder when you left.Â
Itâs 11:05, as Zayne stares at the remnants of a hazelnut latte sitting on the corner of his desk - delivered to him by you several hours earlier. A drawing of a little snowman poking its head over the sleeve of the cup. A small dose of warmth in an otherwise blurry day. He missed you. Not that you hadnât seen each other, but this was different. Rushed, fleeting moments existed â small, sweet treats that left behind a craving. Truthfully, he didnât think he could ever be fully satisfied, not when the treat was gone but the sweetness still lingered on his tongue.
Itâs 11:15, and the soft ping of his phone is notifying him of messages from you with hidden notes tucked tenderly between the letters.
- ping
Have you eaten yet? (I miss you, take care of yourself)
- ping
Let me know when youâre on your way! (I care about you, please come back safely)
He had grown accustomed to these secret words and meanings interwoven into the space that was you and him. With each message, his heart ached a bit more.Â
Itâs 11:27, and the lights of Zayneâs office are off. A cup with a snowman drawing is gently placed in a waste bin. His bag and coat are missing from the coat rack by the door and heâs driving to his home.Â
Itâs interesting how home can be anything. Home can be a house, the things gathered to create a space that belongs to the person living there. It can be a family or a person, the people who hold the hearts of their loved ones close. How odd that Zayne never thought of home before you.Â
Seeing you silhouetted in the ambient light, his cardigan draped on your figure - too big in the shoulders, too long for your frame - the smell of mint tea hanging in the air â this is what it meant to be home. His heart swelled as you turned, that bright smile welcoming him home.Â
âI see someone has found a sweater to their liking.âÂ
âYep,â you quipped, hugging the cardigan closer to your body. âI think it likes me more than its current owner. It wants to live with its friends back in my closet.âÂ
Zayne smiled slightly, stepping into the warm kitchen as you placed two mugs on the counter. âIs that so? Well, I suppose I shouldnât keep it from its true desire.âÂ
His arms circled around your waist, pulling you back securely against him. He tucked his head into the crook of your neck - settling into the warmth and pressing one soft kiss onto the collarbone peeking out from the collar of the cardigan. A contented sigh leaving your lips as you leaned into him, cupping the warm mug in your hands.Â
âThank you for this,â he murmured, attempting to stitch every unspoken feeling along those four words. âCan we stay like this a little longer?â âI want to be with you - always.â âYouâre home to me.â You had a way of weaving these declarations tenderly into your actions and words. Zayne hoped, by closing his eyes, by holding you closer, these unsaid words would flow to you.Â
Gently, you turned in his arm to face him, one hand still clasped around your mug. You gazed up at him, placing your other hand on his chest, feeling the warmth there. âIâm glad youâre home,â you whispered. No hidden meanings - stated so honestly as you smiled.Â
Zayne took the mug from your hand, setting it on the counter behind you, and dropped his forehead to yours. âIf I can be a bitâŠselfish,â he breathed, ghosting his lips over yours. âThereâs one more thing I would ask for.â His hands cupped your face, thumbs brushing against your cheeks, and guided your lips to his. Slowly, his lips moved against yours. His hands, cool on your warm face, moved down your shoulders, dipping underneath the oversized cardigan and caressing your waist. Each movement intentional, as if his fingers had memorized the curve of your body - the feeling of you under his hands grounding him.Â
Again, he rested his forehead against yours, breathing slowly as he released the kiss. His eyes locked on yours, dazed, as his hands tightly held your waist. Words were no longer needed, every movement proclaiming every feeling Zayne had tried to contain. He leaned down to grasp your waist, lifting you onto the counter.Â
âOh-â, you mumbled as you felt the cup behind you. âYour tea!âÂ
âTea,â he said, pressing another kiss to your jaw, âcan wait. Right now - I just need you.â His voice was soft as he slowly trailed his lips up your jawline, punctuating each sentence with a light kiss.Â
Zayne was always so patient, quiet in a collected way. Need was a new word - and your heart ached as his hands pressed in your lower back. Your arms found their way up around his neck, running your fingers up and through his hair. âIâm here,â you whispered, pressing light kisses up his jawline to the shell of his ear. âYou have me.âÂ
Zayne took a deep, controlled breath as he ran his hands up your spine, fingers tracing the arch of your back. âI like it when youâre here,â he murmured. His lips found yours again, savoring the way they melded together â relishing in the small sounds you made as he deepened the kiss and held you as though you were keeping him afloat.Â
He hesitated again, his eyes still closed and hands still pressed against your back. âIt would be even better, if you were here all the time.â He chanced a look at you then, barely opening his eyes.Â
And you were smiling at him, pulling him closer still and cupping his face in your hands. âIs this your subtle way of asking if I would like to move in?â Your lips, still pink from the previous kisses, pressed one small kiss to the tip of his nose - an unspoken answer of âI want to be with you all the time too.â
Zayne looked down, the corners of his mouth slightly turning up. âHow else will I retrieve all my missing sweaters?â He hooked his hands under your thighs, lifting you off the counter. âI think Iâll start with this one.âÂ
Your warm laughter filled the air as he carried you to his room, the mint teas left to cool on the counter.

Concerned (LN)
lando norris x neighbor!reader
Another late night working and you were exhausted. Youâd been on PTO the week before, so now you were playing catch-up and drowning. Trudging back to you apartment, you rounded the corner and ran right into someone else.
âFuck, Iâm sorry,â your neighbor said at the same time you started to apologize. You had met him a couple of times, but he was gone a lot, so it was a pretty standard friendly neighbor relationship.
âYou look horrible.â The words slipped from your lips before you could stop them, and a small, amused smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. His face was haggard, dark circles under his eyes and a weary expression that spoke of sleepless nights. The lines on his forehead deepened as he tried to hide his fatigue, but you couldn't help but notice how drained he looked.
âIâve had trouble sleeping,â he admitted, and you tilted your head, looking for more, but he didnât say anything else.
âOkay, come on,â you said, heading towards your apartment. With a moment's hesitation, he followed behind you into your apartment. The first thing that caught his eye was the unique decor - the walls adorned with scattered pieces of art, each telling its own story. The colors and textures clashed and complemented each other in a chaotic symphony, creating an atmosphere that felt both whimsical and intimate. He couldn't help but feel drawn in, wanting to explore every inch of this quirky space that was a reflection of you.
You sat him down on a barstool in the kitchen before opening a cabinet filled with various powders and ingredients. He watched as you contemplated a bit before picking a couple down and placing them on the counter. Filling the kettle and putting it on the stove, you turned back to him and tried to figure him out.
âYou have a lot of ingredients for tea,â he said, not knowing what to say.
âYeah, I read this book earlier this year about a woman who owned a tea shop and then became fixated on making perfect tea,â you said and he smiled. He felt himself starting to relax around you, appreciative that you hadnât pushed on why he looked so tired even though he knew you probably had a good idea.
The comfortable silence lasted a couple of more minutes before being interrupted by the high scream of the kettle, and you carefully poured it into a cup that would turn it into your favorite tea invention.
âLet it cool for a couple of minutes,â you told him, and he nodded, picked it up, and moved to the couch. You unpacked your bag from work, looking up occasionally to see him sipping and staring out of your grand windows. Deciding he was probably fine by himself, you went to take a shower and change into your pajamas.
As you emerged from the bedroom 20 minutes later, you spotted the familiar mug sitting on the coffee table, and him sprawled out, fast asleep on the couch. A small smile tugged at your lips as you quietly made your way over to him, careful not to wake him. The soft light filtering through the window cast a gentle glow on his sleeping face. You reached for a nearby blanket and draped it over his body, making sure he was warm and comfortable before retreating back to your room.
The next morning you slept in a little later before coming back out into the kitchen. Lando was still snoring softly on the couch and you kept quiet as you made coffee and pulled out eggs for breakfast. You heard him stir and looked over your shoulder to see him sitting up, yawning. He slipped off the couch and made his way towards you.
âI owe you one,â he said and you waved him off. âYou are my favorite neighbor.â
âWhat an honor,â you joked and he smiled.
âWhat can I do to repay you?â
You stood thinking for a second before smirking, âWell Iâd love it if you could get me Carlosâ autograph; heâs my favorite driver.â
He scrunched his eyebrows together disapprovingly, causing deep lines to form on his forehead. You couldn't help but let out a small laugh at his reaction before turning back to the skillet of sizzling eggs.
âIâm going to head out now, but again, thank you for last night. I really needed it,â he said, and you turned, surprising him as you hugged him. His embrace was tight but not suffocating, and his arms felt strong and sturdy around you. When he pulled back, you could feel the weight of his exhaustion in the way his body slumped slightly.
âYou need to take care of yourself,â you said.
âItâs hard,â he replied and you pulled back to see his sad eyes looking back at you. Giving him one last smile, he left you to make breakfast, retreating back to his own place.
âââââââââââââââââââââââ
The rest of your weekend went by quickly and you enjoyed the relaxation of not having to think about work. Sunday afternoon, you were deep cleaning your apartment, casually paying attention to the football games you had in the background. After scrubbing your kitchen, you took a break, pulling out your phone and scrolling through Twitter.
Now, you werenât a big F1 fan; you just tuned in every once in a while mainly because you thought it was cool that you knew a driver, but youâd see tweets on your timeline every once in a while. One caught your attention, and you opened the thread to see some account commenting on a recent stream that Lando had been on with his friends. You watched the video of his friends making fun of him for eating expired food and giggled as they ragged on him.
Thinking back to the other night, you started to actually be concerned about him eating expired food. First of all, it was gross as fuck. Secondly, it could easily make him sick. Having an idea, you grabbed your keys before heading off to the grocery store.
A couple of hours later you were outside Landoâs door, having just knocked on it. He was surprised to see you standing there when he swung open the door.
âI have something for you,â you said, and his eyes flickered down to the bag in your hand before letting you in. Setting it down on the counter, you began pulling out all the Tupperware filled with several different things.
âThis should last you until you have to leave again to race,â you said nonchalantly, turning to look at you. He looked at you wide-eyed, taking in what you did for him.
âYou made me food?â He asked slowly and you nodded.
âI heard that you were eating expired food, which is disgusting,â you said, and a small smile crossed his face. âThat could also kill you, and it would be really irritating to have a bunch of police and noise here to deal with it.â
âMmmhmm,â he said smirking. âSo you did it because you didnât want to be inconvenienced if I poisoned myself?â
âExactly,â you told him. âIf you were my favorite driver, I would say I was doing it because I care about you and want to make sure you are okay.â
âBut Iâm not your favorite,â he said and you nodded. âCorrect.â
He smiled to himself as you bid him goodbye before heading back.
Later that night he hopped on to stream with Max who instantly asked him what he had for dinner.
âA burrito bowl,â he replied and Max perked up.
âDid you order it?â He asked and Lando shook his head.
âNo, my neighbor heard that I was eating expired food so she made me a bunch of meal prepped things to last a couple of weeks.â
âWas it your hot neighbor?â Max asked with a smirk and Lando blushed.
âYes,â he mumbled.
âJust so everyone in the chat knows, Lando has been simping over one of his neighbors for almost a year now, and instead of just talking to her like a normal person, he just stalks her on social media and turns into a lovesick school boy anytime he sees her.â
âThatâs not true,â he complained and Max laughed.
"Remember when you saw her at the little coffee shop by your place? She chatted with you for what, five minutes? You couldn't stop talking about it for weeks," he teased, savoring the memory of his friend's flustered excitement.
âShut up mate,â Lando muttered with a slight grin. Little did he know that you had been tuned into the stream, listening to all of this.

PART 1 HERE
Spencer turned on the seat warmers as soon as he turned on the car, but not too hot - you mentioned a year ago how easily you got warm. He looked over at you before putting the car into reverse, a million thoughts racing through his mind.
He could feel your tension in the air, you were mainly quiet, you sniffled once, you tightened your ponytail. It was a coping mechanism, if you could control the state of your hair, you could control the state of your body.
Leaving the grocery store parking lot, Spencer cleared his throat and started doing what he did best: talking.
âDid you know that your brain is constantly eating itself? Itâs a form of phagocytosis, but it actually isnât harmful. Whatâs more harmful is laughing, many people have actually died from laughing because it can cause loss of oxygen and heart attacks.â
You simply looked at him, eyes slightly wider than before as your cheeks threatened to raise in a smile.
âThank you, but that just kind of made me more stressed,â you looked back onto the road, âTell me more about fruits.â
âYou can never get too much sugar from fruits, the water contents of the fruit slows down your digestion and makes you feel full. Plums, pears, peaches, and apples are all a part of the rose family. Tomatoes have more genes than we do.â
He glanced over to you, to see if you were still listening, which of course you were. You would never interrupt him, you would never stop listening, you would never stop Spencer.
He continued, quieter this time, âYou donât like tomatoes.â
âNo, I donât.â
Spencer opened the door for you and shoved his keys in his pockets, his scent surrounding you as you entered the familiar apartment. It was cozy and cluttered. Stacks of books and papers created tables for lamps and the odd pot plant, the wooden floors creaked in some places and the carpet under the couch had one stain from where you spilt wine that one time.
It smelt clean, and like Spencer. You smiled to yourself, and put your handbag on a side table, looking around what you considered your second home (after your childhood house).
âI always liked your apartment better than mine.â
Spencer swerved around you and placed the grocery bag on the kitchen counter, turning on the warm ceiling light. âWhyâs that?â
He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion as he glanced around his apartment - it didnât seem all that spectacular to him.
You shrugged, sitting on a stool on the other side of the counter, âI donât know, I guess it just⊠feels safe.â
So your apartment doesnât? Spencer bit his tongue, not wanting to bring you any more stress than you were already suppressing.
The tests were still in the bag and they brought your attention like a moth to a light. You stood and joined him on the kitchen side, grabbing a glass (the one with strawberries on it) and filling it with water. Spencer looked at you concerned as you chugged the water in two gulps.
âI gotta pee some how.â
He nodded and clenched his jaw, âYou can change into some of my clothes if you want.â
You thanked him, filled the cup back up and took it into his bedroom, starting your search for comfortable clothes that could maybe ease your tension.
He glanced at his bedroom door anxiously. Spencer was glad that you werenât feeling as nervous, but he knew it wouldnât last for much longer. Especially when your phone suddenly rings on the kitchen counter with âLloydâ on the screen.
âUh, Y/n? Lloydâs calling.â
Your shoulders hiked as you smoothed out one of his purple sweaters over your hips. An audible gulp echoed in your ears, and you yelled back through the door, âYou can answer it.â
"Hello?" Spencer nearly whispered. "Where are you- Spencer?" "Uh, yeah. Hi." "Is Y/n at your apartment? Why is she at your apartment?" Lloydâs voice raised. Spencer glanced into his bedroom, the door closed, the sounds of your shuffling around filling the otherwise silent space. "Yeah, she's at my apartment-" "God, she always at your's, isn't she? Tell her to go home, I need to talk to her. She's going crazy. Says she's pregnant, it's insane." He furrowed his eyebrows and pinched the bridge of his nose, a wave of rage rushing over him. "She feels sick, and she's thought about it. She looks pretty stressed." "When does she not look stressed?" Lloyd hung up, leaving Spencer speechless and shocked. If this is what he says and acts like all the time, no wonder you're acting like you are. When she's with me. She's not stressed, when she's with me.
You emerged from his bedroom and Spencerâs eyes latched onto his purple sweater and some of his sweatpants covering your nervous body.
His heart palpitated.
âWhat did he want?â You took the last sip of your second cup of water and looked at the pregnancy tests on the counter.
âJust wondering where you were.â
You nearly laughed, as if.
âOkay well, Iâm gonna go⊠pee on some sticks.â You sighed and grabbed the boxes, Spencer clenching his jaw and nodding.
âDo you want me to stay here? Or come with you?â He asked softly, treating you like a delicate feather. You looked into his warm and caring eyes and smiled shortly.
âSure. Just close your eyes and ears when I pee.â

From Me, For You
Childe x GN!Reader / Alhaitham x GN!Reader
Summary: You love creating something special for them, it's your love language to say the least, it's the way you show love for them. But at some point, it seems like they stopped caring for the things you make, and in a moment where the stress was getting to them, they even said something so hurtful about your favorite thing to do for them.

Childe
Your relationship with him is... surprising, to say the least.
You're just a baker in Liyue that happened to sell one of the best Shezhnayan pastries that a certain homesick Harbinger was really craving. One thing led to another, and now you're in love and in a relationship with a Fatui Harbinger.
It's not like you didn't try your damn hardest not to fall for his charms, but seeing him eat the pastries you make and jokingly sob about his home, with the pastry's filling staining the corners of his lip, it just touched your heart.
But you forgot for a bit... he's a Harbinger...
He's not always gonna be the Ajax that taste test your baked goods every other day and would give the biggest smile with the usual comment of "Everything is perfect! You're perfect!"
And that's increasingly becoming more prominent.
You looked at the Shezhnayan baking book intently, making sure you follow the way of making a local pastry filling to a T. This is very important to you, your boyfriend's birthday is just around the corner, and you really really wanted to give him a taste of home since he wouldn't be able to make it back to his home nation.
You have to make sure to not screw up, so you're practicing early on.
The sound of your front door opening perked your ears up, making you put down the bowl of filling you were working on and skip on to your living room.
"Jax!" You affectionately called for him before you could even see him clearly.
The sight that greeted you, however, promptly stopped you from jumping at him for a hug.
Blood...
Whether his or someone else's, it mortified you. You were speechless.
"What...?" Childe scoffed at the sight of your shocked expression. "This is what being a Harbinger is." He looked down at his soiled clothes, feeling rather uncomfortable. "You should get used to this, babe."
The usual warmth of his presence in your house changed into an atmosphere that made you sick to the stomach.
"Please..." You started, your heart beating rapidly and your voice laced with disbelief. "Wash up... I..." After such a sight, could you really ask him to taste test one of your many endeavors in baking again?
This man... this Harbinger... he wasn't the Ajax you wished to see. But that's still him, just not the version he made you become privy to.
However, after so many days and nights that he showed up like... that, you got used to it, got used to the slow uprising of a worse version of him, the version of him that didn't give a fuck about what brought you together in the first place, the version of him that no longer accepted welcoming hugs and kisses, the version of him that made you feel so... worthless.
"Are you baking again? I know it's your job and all, but could you like... just not bring it home?" The ginger said that one time, rather hypocritically considering that he brought that terrible attitude from his job to your home.
"I'm working on something important..." You excused his rather hurtful words, you were rather sensitive when someone mentions something negative to you about the hobby that made you so happy. "Can you try it and tell me what you think?"
"Not in the mood." You knew that he was rather tired from taking care of something for his job, but that dismissive tone made your heart ache... and just when you think you've finally perfected his childhood favorite treat.
A moment of silence fills the room before a quiet "Please..." escapes you in a very hesitant tone. You worked so hard... finding an actual Snezhnayan baking book with local recipes, practicing over and over to make it perfect, even making sure to add your own little touch that compliments the taste.
Maybe you shouldn't have said that, otherwise, he wouldn't have stood up from the couch to face your smaller figure holding onto the tray of baked goods, looking up at his looming figure.
"You know, Y/N..." Your breathing already became heavy at the cold call of your name. "There are so many more useful things you could do than bake all day. This..." A gasp escaped your mouth when he grabbed the tray from your hands and threw it down on the kitchen island.
"This is just worthless."
Tears welled up in your eyes at his words, and you could no longer hold in the sob in your throat, as you started crying pathetically right in front of him. You whimpered as you tried to control your falling tears and your harsh breathing.
You couldn't say anything back, your cheeks and nose only reddening at the rapid emotion that's escaping you. No longer being able to handle being right in front of him, you ran up to your room, closing the door and face planting on the bed, muffling your cries with the sheets.
Back downstairs, Childe was still processing everything.
"There's nothing to process, you are a dick." His inner self told him, and he completely agrees as he sighs, dragging his fingers along his ginger hair in frustration in himself.
Why did he do that? Why did he say those hurtful things? Why did he treat you like you were one of his targets that he was assigned to manipulate?
Work got to him, it has been for weeks, but it was no excuse. He brought a monster he couldn't control into your house, and now... you were hurt.
His blue eyes darted to the pastries he haphazardly threw on the counter, most were still on the tray, in a mess and no longer in a firm order in which you like to arranger your treats.
A realization hit him... they look a lot like...
Childe then remembered the look on your face when you whispered a plea. Your eyes were hopeful when he stood up, and then your body shook when you realized he wasn't intending on tasting anything.
A memory flashed in his mind, even intensifying when he picked up a treat and bit into it, a sweet, warm filling coating the inside of his mouth. It was delicious... and just like in your Y/N way, everything you make made him feel better.
His senses getting better meant the pit in his stomach got worse, the regret of going off on you consuming him more and more.
He then hurried up to your room, gently opening your door to not startle you. His heart broke at the sight of you, your face buried into your pillows, your shoulders shaking and indicating that you're crying still. He knows that after what he did, he has no right to even feel hurt at the sight of you... but he loves you! And he knows he hasn't been showing it.
Without a word, without turning around to face him, you spoke. "P-please... L-le-leave me a-alone." Your words were muffled, and you were stuttering due to the sobs you still couldn't control.
"Baby, I... I'm so sorry..." Childe knew that those words could never be enough to make you feel better, but he at least needed a chance to say his piece, even though he may not deserve it. "Work has been... it's been making me like this... but, I know I can't use that as an excuse..."
"I've been a prick..." You didn't respond to him, but your sobs did die down to little sniffles. "And I don't deserve someone like you..."
"You just made the perfect replica of one of my favorite treats, and you probably did so much for this. Archons, babe, you're amazing. And so so caring." Ajax felt tears starting to form, his vision getting cloudy as his eyes water. If you forced him to leave, he would, but he wanted to pour everything in his heart for you out, and finally finally let out the emotion he had to keep in due to his job.
"I love you so much, Y/N... for being such an amazing person that lit up my life." He walked closer to you, prompting to sit on the bed beside you. Still, you give no response. "And the fact that you love me... that... you loved me...."
"I'm so honored that you even let me be your taste tester." The ginger chuckled a bit, reveling in the sweet memory.
"And I can't fucking believe that I just hurt you like that. I'm so s-sorry, Y/N." Finally, the tears in his eyes fell, and his voice broke when he spoke.
He wasn't use to fear, but at that moment, he truly felt the fear of you rejecting him.
After a few seconds, you turned to him, and he felt even more guilty to see your tear-stained cheeks and puffy eyes.
"C-Couch..." You whispered while pointing at him, making the ginger tilt his head in confusion. "S-Sleep on the couch." You stuttered out, and Childe immediately nodded, accepting your statement.
"A-And no more hugs and kisses, no p-pastries either." You firmly stated (as firm as your sniffly state could say at least). "For a month."
"Okay.... Yes, understood!" Childe wiped the tears on his face, answering you with determination. If that's what it took for you to forgive him, he's gonna do it with ease.
"And no coming home with b-blood on you. Please..." He got off the bed to get on his knees in front of you.
"I promise..." With many of his promises, he had an instinct to kiss your forehead as a reassurance, but you avoided his hand before he could hold your head to go in to press a kiss.
"Wait a month." You let out a strained giggle, and he smiled at how sweet it was despite his lips tingling in the anticipation of a kiss.
The whole no hugs and kisses is gonna be hard, and the no pastries means that he's not gonna get a taste of your love for an entire month!
But he will persevere, just for you.
~âą~âą~âą~âą~âą~âą~âą~âą~âą~âą~
Alhaitham
You have a knack for crafting little momentos and preserving memories by creatively incorporating moments into the trinkets that you make.
It's your favorite hobby! And you're rather proud that you can make such cute little things that don't look tacky.
Kaveh was actually pleased the very first time Alhaitham came home with a decor you made, an embroidery of an irritated dendro slime reading a thick book that he can hang on a wall. You presented it to him with all smiles, saying that that was how you saw him the first time you saw him in the House of Deana.
"Finally! You actually got something to hang up that doesn't embody your atrocious taste!" Kaveh was enthusiastic, yet still managed to diss the gray haired scholar while giving out a compliment.
The first thing you ever made for him was that embroidery. And Archon's did your heart flutter and leaped with joy when he actually accepted it. What you were expecting was a comment from him like "I think it's silly to represent me with a slime. I would say that my IQ level is much higher than those elemental lifeforms."
You were both just acquaintances when you gave him that gift, but that sparked something between you. You were smart, creative, and didn't speak to him all stiff and nervous like many of your peers. You make the atmosphere easy to be in, and Alhaitham happens to like it when things are easy for him.
You liked his company just as much, finding his calmness and straightforwardness so tranquil and refreshing, not to mention his funny smarty pants attitude. You liked him so much that you would sit by him in the Akademiya or in the library and do your handy work.
it basically progressed from that. "I enjoy being with you, and you kissed me that one time and I liked it. And I can see that you enjoy being with me too. So we're together now." He stated, and you were in shock, he's always been straightforward, but that was truly unexpected.
"Y-You haven't even... taken me out on a date yet!" That was the first thing that you thought to say, still processing everything.
Alhaitham raised an eyebrow, "You don't call this and our every other meeting a date? We are together and we're doing what we want to do." Damn it, he made a good point.
"B-But..." You stuttered, making him sigh.
"Do you not want to be with me?"
"No! I-I mean... yes... Yes! I do, but you just dropped it all out of nowhere." You argued, seriously having a love-hate relationship with his unapologetic honesty.
He ignored your comment, only choosing to hear that you want to be with him. "Good, you're my partner now."
And then... with you being you, every milestone, every special event in your relationship, you'd make something for him.
First anniversary? A custom picture frame with 12 pictures of both of you in it to remind him of the 12 months you've been together.
His birthday? A crochet little plant in a pot, the plant seemingly just sprouting.
Just a random day? Well, you got something for him anyway. :D
You love him to bits and you wanted to show them in your very own love language, crafting little gifts!
Each one, Alhaitham accepted in an uncharacteristically bashful yet still pleased manner, muttering a "Thank you..." or a "You never fail to impress me." and then you are presented with a great honor of a smile from the scribe.
Making him feel happy and warm inside (though he would never admit that he was, but he really was) by making things for him made you so happy!
You managed to fill his desk with your creations, not just decor, but some useful trinkets too! Like a functional hourglass, a lamp that he can write on, and an organizer for books because you swear that he literally just lets the books litter his office since he reads lots of them on and off, and you needed to do something about it.
The main thing is... he loves your love for creativity.
At least... that's what you thought...
But ever since he became the Acting Grand Sage...
Alhaitham has always been an honest person, never one to beat around the bush or spare anyone's feeling by keeping his opinions to himself.
And he sure has gotten colder, much more poky, probing at the weaknesses and insecurities of many scholars in an attempt to only let researches and works he finds worthy to continue. The rest shall no longer be conducted.
Apparently, that included your work.
"I don't see a use for such an object. I prefer things in my desk to be practical."
"The way you designed it is rather... silly. Far too childish to be of sensible use."
"Decors are not necessary, there's better use of your time."
You took all of his critiques, from then and now, to heart, making sure to reflect on his words to improve. But when he was still the Scribe, he at least commented on how to improve.
Now, it's like... he wants you to stop.
You're currently in the office of the Acting Grand Sage, you brought your crocheting kit with you to pass the time, hoping to just have a quiet afternoon with him while you both do your work, much like what you did in the past.
"Alhaitham, what'cha up to?" You asked innocently, still working on your crochet as you were seated on the floor. He was working on something on his desk, his brows pulled together as he frowned at the report in front of him.
That was what you usually do, ask some questions about each other's business, encourage each other if it's really stressing you out, or jab at how you could never do his work, and he would not have even a quarter of your patience to finish a craft.
This time, however, he does not grace you with a response, preserving the quietness of the room. You got the message, so you opted to keep quiet and keep on crocheting a blanket with a print that you were planning to give him, maybe a fluffy blanket will keep out his cold mood.
A few minutes later though, you don't know exactly what made him snap, you don't know why he suddenly called your name, and you don't know why he looked at you with such a frustrated look.
"Y/N, just drop it." Alhaitham suddenly blurted out to you. Making you jump and pause what you're doing.
"W-What?" You stuttered, confused and worried at the same time.
"I saw that you've been struggling on that thing for hours, can't you just move on to something more useful?" The gray haired man sighed. "You're so creative, and you're wasting your time with that." He said it like so condescendingly, that such a calm sounding comment penetrated your heart more than an actual insult could.
"I mean, look at all this." He motions to his desk. "A bunch of junk that serves no purpose. I really don't see why you need to do all this." Tears started collecting in your eyes, and you heard his words as if you're the junk that serves no purpose.
"B-But... those are all presents for... y-you." Your voice was shaking, and you could only manage to whisper. "I wanted to make them for you."
"Then perhaps it is me that don't want to receive them anymore."
And that's what got to you. What you do to show your love, what you try to do for him, he doesn't even like. So does he even love you at all?
Tears streamed down your face, and what initially started as sniffles turned into sobs that echoed around the large room. You stood up, stuffing your things into your bag before aggressively wiping your tears away, though more seem to fall anyway.
Without another word, you ran to the elevator before rushing out of the Akademiya, running back home with a broken heart. It was a miracle you didn't trip with how cloudy your vision got from the tears.
...
"What are you doing here?" Alhaitham raised a brow, seeing Kaveh in his office, sweeping everything on his desk into a large bag.
The blond architect ignored him, clearing out the desk before heading for the wall with a few of your works filled the space.
"Did Y/N make this?" Kaveh questioned, finally looking at his roommate. Alhaitham merely nodded, though even more confused when the architect took the pieces and shoved them in the bag too.
"What are you doing?"
Kaveh scoffed, shaking his head at the Acting Grand Sage's pathetic ignorance. "You don't deserve these things!" He then proceeded to glare at him. "Saying such mean things at Y/N, they did nothing wrong and you started acting like some obnoxious fucker that just wanna bring people down."
"I mean, I know you like doing that. But to Y/N?" Kaveh questioned in disbelief. "Yeah, you don't deserve any of this."
And so Alhaitham was reminded of his words from yesterday, as well as you're crying face as you ran out of his office. He (rather stupidly) thought that you'd get over the comments, after all, you didn't mind his critiques from before.
"I wanted to make them for you." He remembers what you said, all the things Kaveh had in the large bag were for him. You wanted to make those for him.
You made them because... you love him...
And he fucked up.
Kaveh was done with his sweep, leaving him in a eerily empty room, free of everything that made it a bearable to work in. He hated the office of the Grand Sage, but your presence, the presence of your creations... made it that much better.
He had to fix this.
...
You heard knocking at your door, but after looking at the peephole and seeing a gray haired scholar for the fifth time that day, you didn't bother opening the door.
"Darling?" You ignored the endearment muffled by the wall separating the both of you.
On the other side, Alhaitham sighed before resting his head on your door. He's been trying to talk to you properly for five hours, but he didn't just want to say what he wanted to at your door, risking you not hearing what he has to say for himself.
"Listen, Y/N, I'll just be here... working." He didn't leave just yet. "You can join me, if you want. Just like before."
He sat back down on the bench that was right in front of your house. He brought the work he has to get done with him, and trying to swallow down the guilt yet again, he proceeded to work into the well hours of the night before leaving with yet another unsuccessful day of trying to talk to you.
For many days, it was like that, he stayed outside your home. Whenever you needed to go out, you ignored him, even if he followed you, even if he tried to talk to you, you wouldn't give him the time of day.
"I think this type of yarn would be good for structure." Alhaitham held a roll of yarn in his hand, looking you and anticipating a response.
Though you said nothing, you confirmed that you at least listen when you plucked up another roll of the same yarn and paid for it. He smiled a little, though you didn't wish to humor him further.
Everyday, Alhaitham would be working in front of your house, maybe knocking once in a while to check in on you. It was rather heartbreaking to see, from your window, you saw him sit there, looking like he isn't even getting work done, just staring at the reports and trying to make something of it.
And finally, it was night yet again, a particularly cold one this time around. The cold breeze as the sun sets in for the night sent goosebumps down the Acting Grand Sage's spine, but it was far too early to leave, so he didn't budge.
You don't get it, you don't want to feel sorry for him, he couldn't just say something so harsh yet act so stubborn to force you to forgive him!
But tonight... he does look rather cold, and from what you learned the days before, nothing will make him move from that bench until you let him talk to you properly.
There was a soft warmth that ingulfed Alhaitham as he was busy with his work, from his peripherals he could see the makings of a blanket, effectively shielding him from the cold.
Looking back, he saw you dressed in your pajamas, not bothering to make eye contact with him. "You looked cold." were the only words that you said to him.
Unbeknownst to him, while he was working in front of your house, you joined in on his day, finishing the blanket you were planning to give him before his outburst.
It felt like such a waste to scrap it, especially since you were half done with it already...
He stood up from the bench, looking uncharacteristically enthused at you. "Thanks..." He was looking fondly at you, but you still refused to meet his gaze.
You also noticed from watching him a bit that he wasn't really eating much throughout the day, so before you could stop yourself...
"Would you like to come in for dinner?"
...
You were quiet for most of the meal, but his ears perked at the occasional sniffles you let out, implying that you were trying not to cry. Alhaitham felt shitty for thinking he even had the right to feel bad when he was the one that caused all this.
After dinner, it was still silent, but Alhaitham proceeded to evaluate the blanket you gave him in your living room. It was crochet with, yet again, an irritated dendro slime on top of a building that resembles the Akademiya, you must have observed him and his sour mood from being the Acting Grand Sage.
"Do I get to keep this?" He asked, looking at you expectantly.
You bit your lip, anxiously twiddling your thumbs. "Umm... It's... not of much use." You replied, earning a sigh from him.
With your comment, Alhaitham made his way right in front of you, making it perfectly clear for him see that tears have started to fall from your eyes. "I-I think... it would be best if you g-go now."
You were looking down, still trying to cover your face despite knowing that he knew you were crying.
"Would it be okay if I talk to you properly first?" Something in you wanted him to leave because you thought that he deserved it, but you still wanted answers. Why did he say all those mean things to you? Why did he hate what you make so much? Why was he persistently outside your house all the time to persuade you to finally talk to him?
You didn't answer, but didn't motion at all for him to leave, so he took his chance before it was too late. "There's nothing I love more in the world than you. And to lash out on you for doing something you love was absolutely idiotic of me."
He took your hands in his, "I hated being the Grand Sage, I hated having to deal with the shit I don't care about. That hate just continued to build up, and I... you were the one that unfairly received it all."
"You didn't deserve any of that. And I know I can't use being stressed as an excuse for hurting you, that was my own stupid act. But I am truly sorry."
"I-I would have stopped making things for you if you hated them so much." You finally looked up at him with wet doe eyes, effectively clenching his heart even more.
"No, no, darling... I love what you make, every single one. Because I know that making them makes you happy, and I love seeing you happy." He lets go of one of your hands to wipe your tears away. "I'm so sorry about everything I said, darling. The moment Kaveh took everything from my office, I realized how empty it was... without you..."
"He did that?" You asked in disbelief, your question laced with a strained chuckle. He nodded, a pout forming on his face.
"Yeah, and I realized how terrible it was..."
You laughed, though your cheeks were still stained by dried tears. "Do you like the blanket I made you?" You asked him, and he gave you a rare genuine smile.
"I love it, you're a star for making it for me." He closed the gap between the both of you, guiding your head to rest on his shoulder, his arms wrapping around you in a warm embrace.
"I love everything you gift me. I love you..." He whispered as he hugged you warmly.
"Even the plushie on your desk that doesn't do anything and always falls over?"
"Even that..." Your heart fluttered, your body cuddling with his to receive more of his warmth.
"Okay..." You responded, smiling against him. "You can tell Kaveh to stop keeping my gifts hostage..."
...
"There's somethings missing..." Alhaitham gave Kaveh a pointed look, making his blond roommate scoff.
"Well, everything I took I brought back here! If you lost a few things then that's you're fault!" Kaveh has always been a big fan of your crafts, and Alhaitham has a gut feeling that he liked a few things that he took.
The gray haired scholar merely raised a brow, making Kaveh sigh dramatically.
"Fine! But I'm keeping the plushie!" He left before Alhaitham could argue with him, leaving him only to sigh.
Your giggle occupied the room for a bit. "I'll tell him I can make one for him."
"Alright, but I'll appreciate if his isn't as cute as mine. Thanks." He said, and though you know he's joking, he still had that stoic face that makes you laugh when he says those unserious things.
"I'll keep that in mind."

â
you canât remember when you had told yourself, one more chapter. but apparently itâs been long considering itâs almost three in the morning. the ice in your coffee has melted into a smaller ice cube, so you take a big sip. not wanting the ice to water down the sweet, creamy taste.
coffee late at this hour doesnât affect you no more. you drink it now for the taste more than anything. you can thank school and those tiring days of studying hunched over a table. the amount of energy drinks and coffee youâve consumed should be concerning but you gotta do what you gotta do.
if jungkook was here, he wouldâve had a fit and told you drinking caffeine at this hour is bad for you.
but heâs not. heâs at a late night practice and he told you heâs not sure heâll be able to come over.
you have your two pillows propped up against your headboard, your book nuzzled against your thighs and your stuffed animal under your arm. your bedside lamp creating the perfect lighting for you to see and the perfect atmosphere.
youâre deep into your book, too engrossed in the plot between the love interests that you donât hear keys jingle and a door softly shut and echo in the quiet night of your home.
you still donât hear the soft feet padding towards your bedroom until your door opens, revealing your boyfriend.
he looks as if heâs freshly showered, the ends of his hair are damp and stringy, and his face is bare and cheeks a soft red. thatâs how it looks after he finishes his skincare routine, he must have rushed over here.
he grins when he sees youâre awake and so do you when you see him, placing your bookmark inside and setting it down next to you. you sit up on your knees, eager to touch him and kiss him, realizing again how much you miss him despite seeing him this morning. that was almost 24 hours ago.
but his eyes maneuver to the coffee thatâs condensing, making a puddle on the coaster.
he squints his eyes at you. and it feels almost as if youâve been caught as a child. you lower yourself to sit on the back of your shins.
âhi kookie,â you smile, acting innocent.
âdonât kookie me. how many times have i told you to stop drinking coffee so late, itâs almost three. youâre not gonna sleep.â he tells you again, sternly. reaching behind his neck to take off his crewneck in one swift movement, the shirt underneath scrunches up with the sweater, revealing his abs. and you canât help but ogle while youâre being scolded. you canât blame me.
you frown, âi know, i know. but you know reading and drinking coffee goes hand in hand. i wanted to enjoy reading my book andââ
he moves towards you, placing his knee on the foot of the bed, crawling shortly til he reaches you. his nose brushing yours and his eyes half-lidded. the soft scent of his shampoo and brief smell of mint swallows you, bringing that familiar comfort.
âsweetheart, i know. but caffeine also doesnât mesh well with your anxiety. you know that. itâs fine to drink it once or twice during the day but late at night is a no.â he softly warns, tilting his chin upwards to catch your lips with his.
it was meant to be a quick kiss but your fingers reach to hold his face, tugging him closer to you until youâre lying on your back and heâs on top. his hands placed on both sides of your head, caging you in, straddling you. both your hands trail its way down from his neck down to his chest, stomach and then they find its home at his waist. pulling him down til his front weighs pressure on your sensitive spot.
both of you moan into the kiss, and your sweet sound sends an alert to jungkook. before you both get carried away, he pulls back, kissing you once more before pulling away.
he hums, deliciously. âthough coffee does taste best coming from you.â he gazed at you, eyes shining and lips slightly red. no doubt, you look the same.
âi thought you werenât coming tonight.â you say questioningly, watching him move your book next to your coffee so he can lie underneath the covers with you. once heâs settled in, he has an arm resting behind his head and the other resting around you.
âi wasnât, but i really wanted to sleep with you and i wanna make you breakfast in the morning. i saw a recipe i wanna try.â you hum in response, trying to nuzzle your head deeper into his warmth but his t-shirt is blocking what you want.
you tug at his shirt without saying anything and he understands. he sits up quickly to shrug off the fabric, tossing it across the room to land beside his bag before lying back down, holding you.
he lets out a dramatic sigh, âahh, this is my favorite thing in the world.â turning on his side, you following so youâre both facing each other, legs tangled together.
âi missed you too.â you whispered. he didnât say it but he didnât have to, his answer was enough.
your head nestled underneath his chin and against his chest, you kiss the skin.
âwhat chapter are you on?â he asks, his voice deeper than it was, slumber almost taking over him.
âtwenty-eight, iâm almost done with it.â
he hums. âdid you start the book today?â
he feels you nod. âmy little bookworm.â he coos, scratching your back softly with the tips of his fingers. âgo to sleep, sweetheart.â
and you do.

definitely not old
Aaron Hotchner x Reader
A/N: Did I create an extremely improbable scenario just to suit my need to create another highly improbable scenario? Yes. Do I care that itâs unrealistic? No. Please forgive any typos/ grammatical errors.Â
CW: suggestive content, but not explicit (like 15+?). Use of y/n one time. (Technically this would probably warrant one of those hostile workplace environment seminars like they had for Derek and Penelope. But itâs funny? Idk this isnât serious.) Sassy Hotch. Crack plot tbh.Â
Also I know the timeline doesnât really make sense, because JJ is a profiler and Emily and Rossi exist, but I imagined Season 1 Spencer while writing this! I guess itâs 2005? Btw I do not know how tapes work, so just pretend it makes sense please. This is so unserious.Â
Summary: reader wife and Hotch are private people; the BAU team is nosy. Spencer is just constantly in the right place at the wrong time.Â
Enjoy!
ââââââ
The screen in front of you depicted horror - just not the kind the BAU was used to. The UnSub had confessed to leaving a message in an old tape. He had already been arrested, but you were all hoping it might contain something that might help the conviction stick. Only he was extremely paranoid, so not only had he left the message in a code, but he had spliced it into a tape he thought people were least likely to watch. His p***. It was the last thing to do for the case and everyone was trying to help. You all sit at the round table, and Spencer shifts in his seat, clearly uncomfortable. Derek laughs at his shyness and Emily laughs at the very unrealistic movements. She and JJ tilt their heads at the shape the two on the screen have put themselves into.Â
âThat does not look comfortableâ, JJ mocks.Â
The words are out of your mouth before you think. âTrust me itâs notâ.Â
Everyone at the table snaps their heads to look at you.Â
âDamn Mamaâ, Derek laughs. âWho are you doing these moves with?â
You try to hold back a laugh. You were not ready to share about your sex life with your colleagues, no matter how close you were. Plus youâre pretty sure Aaron would not appreciate it.Â
âThat is inappropriate workplace conversationâ, you say, pausing the video. âAnd youâre going to miss the next series of codeâ, you tell him, trying to get him to revert his attention back to the video. Emily grins at your attempted evasion.
âWe already got all the code. She just doesnât want us to tell Hotch sheâs capable of all that. Doesnât want to make the old man feel badâ.
âHeâs not old. Heâs only 5 years older than youâ, you remind her. She puts a hand on her chest in mock offense like youâve stabbed her. You roll your eyes. âAnd this is still inappropriateâ.
âSo it wasnât Hotchâ, Derek laughs.Â
âYouâre just annoyed because you havenât tried it yourselfâ, you deflect, moving to sit next to Spencer who seems to actually be doing his job.Â
âIâve seen her do yoga and sheâs very flexible, so if she couldnât do it I donât think you canâ, JJ tells Morgan.Â
âOh you have no idea what Iâm capable ofâ, he teases, which earns laughs from around the table. âIâm better than the old man for sureâ. They all start laughing and talking about you and Hotch.Â
You roll your eyes. âWasnât old in bed last nightâ, you mutter under your breath. You startle at the sound of a book hitting the floor and see Spencerâs bright red face. JJ, Derek and Emily look over in curiosity at what they might have missed, but you ignore them, attempting to give Spencer an apology for making him uncomfortable. He moves to drink his coffee in an attempt to avoid more of the conversation. Only he chokes on it because Hotch enters the room.Â
âHave you finished working out the code?â
Everyoneâs heads snap to him - JJ, Emily and Derek wearing matching grins. Hotch eyes you patting a coughing Spencerâs back.
âAre you alright?â, he asks.Â
âYes! Good! Iâm good!â, Spencer squeaks, afraid Hotch is going to ask him why heâs so nervous. Aaron looks to you for some answers but before you can tell him itâs nothing, Spencer suddenly stands up.
âGot the code! Going to call the local PD. DA is waitingâ, he warbles before you all watch him run out of the room. Hotch turns back to the rest of you.Â
âWell then that wraps it up. Go home now, get some restâ, he instructs. Everyone starts packing up. You and Hotch walk towards the door when he realises thereâs only 6 of you in the room.Â
âWhereâs Dave?â, he asks.
Youâre about to tell him Rossi went to the bathroom when the Italian walks back in. Rossi immediately notes the paused video.
âWow that looks uncomfortableâ, he remarks. Everyone smirks in your direction. Hotch snakes an arm around your waist and looks at the screen. Then at you.Â
âIt was, wasnât it?â
He smiles at the jaws dropping to the floor.Â
âGood night everyoneâ.
âââââââââ
A little bonus scene:
In his office later:
âYou heard us talking before you came in the room didnât youâ, you question your husband. He was so private, he wouldnât have said something like that otherwise.Â
âThey called me oldâ, Aaron grumbles, but his tone is amused. âJust wanted to shock them a littleâ.
You make your way over to his side of the desk, pulling him to stand up beside you.Â
âWell Agent Hotchner, I have to tell you, thereâs been some speculation about your performanceâ, you taunt. âCare to prove them wrong?â
âLast night wasnât enough proof?â, he laughs raising an eyebrow. You run your hands up his chest and behind his neck, pulling him close.Â
âThe results were inconclusiveâ, you tease. He grabs your hips and traps you between himself and his desk, his mouth trailing kisses down your jaw.Â
âWell I canât have that kind of speculation going aroundâ, he murmurs into your skin. Your breath hitches from the sensation of his lips on the sensitive spot on your neck. But instead of continuing, he pulls away and meets your eyes in a conspiratorial grin. âWe should do an in house evaluation as soon as possibleâ.
You open your mouth to reply when the door swings open, Spencer finding you sandwiched between Hotchâs thighs and your blouse rumpled. His mouth drops open and suddenly all 187 iq points mean nothing when his brain loses function.
âOh- I- um- sorry!â, he manages before running away. You stare at the slammed door then back at Aaron and burst into giggles. He drops his head to your shoulders and sighs.Â
âI feel like a teenagerâ, he groans.
âAt least you donât feel old.â
âââââââââ
Bonus bonus:Â
Still in the conference room:Â
âI want to go back to 10 minutes ago when I didnât know this informationâ, Emily moans.Â
âI think I need 5 more minutes before I can form a coherent thoughtâ, JJ laughs in disbelief. Spencer walks back in.
âI finished my report. Whereâs Hotch and y/n? Can we go home?â
âProbably doing it in his office for all we knowâ, Derek mutters.
Spencerâs brows furrow in confusion. âDoing what in his office?â
Rossi raises an eyebrow at Emily. âIs this kid serious?â
She shrugs back at him.Â
âSpence, Hotch says we can go home. But you should probably report about what local PD told you before you goâ, JJ tells him.
Spencer nods and makes his way to Hotchâs office. The rest of the team watch him walk away.
âYou think we should have told him to knock before going in?â
âProbably.â
The sound of a high pitch yelp and the slam of an office door echo down the hallway.Â
âOops.â
ââââââ
thank you for reading :)

Hello Kisses
Pairing: poly!marauders x reader
Summary: Sirius loves to give hello kisses to his darlings.
Note: Hi, hello, hey, it's me. I can't believe it took me this long to post something new of my own! Work is eating me alive, you guys. Seriously. Anyways, I really hope you like this!!! Thanks for reading!
Remus loves the lazy afternoons.
More importantly, he loves the lazy afternoons with you.
As the one with the least amount of energy in this relationship, considering his lovely boyfriends of course, you are the most eligible for the afternoon naps or the cuddles with book in hand.
Remus looks down at your peaceful expression as your head rests on his lap, eyes closed as you listen to Remus' gentle voice while he reads. For a moment, he thinks you are asleep with how comfortable you look. Until, of course, you smile without opening your eyes.
"Are you staring at me?" You ask, your playful voice almost imitating Sirius.
Remus smiles instead of pointing that out.
"How'd you know?" He asks quietly, not wanting to disturb the gentle silence in the house.
"You stopped reading, genius." You open your eyes to look at him, which only makes your smile widen as you see Remus peek at you from under the book he is holding.
"Maybe I was trying to create suspense." He replies, although you can see him trying to hide a smile of his own.
"I don't think romance is the right genre for that, love."
He wants to reply with a sarcastic or witty comeback, he really does, but how can he when your smile is lighting up the whole room? He can't quite find it in himself to interrupt it, honestly.
Yet, a moment later, the apartment door opens and interrupts it, and Remus finds himself unreasonably annoyed at it.
"Hello, my darlings." Sirius' voice echoes from the hallway.
And just like that, Remus' annoyance turns to a soft and mushy type of love inside him.
"Hey, Siri." You turn your head towards the hallway, signaling your boyfriend your whereabouts.
The raven-haired boy is quick to find you. Remus finds that the smile Sirius wears when he looks at the two of you, can rival the smile you had a minute ago; lighting up the room and making Remus feel all fuzzy inside.
As Remus puts his book down with a piece of napkin as a bookmark between the pages, Sirius walks up to him and leans in for a kiss.
"Hi." Remus whispers, ever so softly. You see Sirius smile and rather than answering verbally, he kisses Remus gently.
You don't get a chance to tease them about public display of affection between two parties in your living room, because a minute later Sirius leans in to Remus' lap for your kiss.
After he feels satisfied enough with his hello kisses, Sirius stands up straight to look around for your only other boyfriend who isn't present in the living room.
"Where's Jamie?" He asks to the two of you. Remus nods towards the bathroom.
"In the shower."
Remus watches as Sirius' face lights up with a mischievous grin as he stalks to the bathroom, quiet as a mouse. Remus' eyes follow his movements until he hears your soft voice from his lap.
"He'll barge in, won't he?" You sound like you're holding in a sigh but when he looks down at you, he sees the fond smile you always have around them.
"He has to get his kiss." Remus replies, shrugging as he repeats Sirius' usual excuse.
"Maybe I should start doing that." You look up at him with a playful glimmer in your eyes.
"Doing what?" He asks, voice still as quiet as before.
"Demanding kisses."
He smiles down at you, all warm yet playful in his own way.
"Dove, you want a kiss?"
"It doesn't count as demanding if you're offering."
"There's a reason you don't demand kisses." He leans down, his eyes flickering to your lips momentarily before he continues with a whisper. "We always offer."
You meet him halfway for the kiss and Remus feels you smile into it.
"Pads! Oh my fucking God!" James' voice manages to get to the living room.
Remus pulls away, feeling your giggles before they even reach his ears. Your laughter mixes with Sirius'.
"You scared the crap out of me!" Remus shakes his head as he finds himself unable to hold his chuckling at James' continuous exclamations.
"Stop yelling and give me my kiss!" Sirius' voice cuts James', making you laugh even more. Remus thinks it's more of a win-win for him now that the scenery for him rivals even the most beautiful sunsets themselves.
"I'm in the shower!" You hear James' voice turn somewhat bashful, Sirius' affection working on him as much as it is working on Remus and you.
Remus hears some shuffling and some water splashes, and soon enough, Sirius emerges from the bathroom with a playful grin.
"I got all my hello kisses, in case you were wondering."
Remus shakes his head with a fond smile. This may not feel like a lazy afternoon entirely, but he finds himself loving this more.

Subtle change of your scent (established relationship with Azriel, the start of your pregnancy)
After a long, exhausting day of shopping with Feyre, you were curled up on the couch at home, reading a book. The warmth of the fire crackled softly in the hearth, the rhythmic flipping of pages creating a comforting ambiance. You sighed, feeling the contentment of finally being home. Feyre had insisted on spoiling everyone for Solstice, and the day had been filled with laughter, joy, and plenty of gifts. Now, it was time to relax.
Azriel had been out with his brothers, enjoying some time together after a long week of missions. You hadnât heard him come in, so when the front door softly closed, you didnât immediately look up, absorbed in your book.
But Azriel, as always, noticed everything. He stepped into the room, his shadows slipping silently into the corners, but it was the change in the air that stopped him in his tracks. His steps faltered as he paused, his sharp senses picking up something new, something that made his heart skip a beat.
Your scentâit was different. The familiar notes of it, the one he had known for so long and was so intimately connected with, had shifted. It was still you, still the essence that made you *you*, but there was something more now. A new depth, a richness to it. And underneath it all, something faint but undeniableâhis scent, mixed with yours, and a new, blossoming presence.
Azrielâs breath caught in his throat as realization slammed into him. His eyes, usually so composed and guarded, widened, disbelief and hope warring within them. He stood frozen for a moment, the world around him fading as everything zeroed in on this one fact.
You were pregnant.
Your eyes lifted from the book when you sensed him standing there, the quiet intensity of his presence pulling your attention. His gaze locked onto yours, his expression unreadable at first. But then his wings trembled slightly, and you saw something flicker in his eyesâsomething raw, vulnerable, and utterly overwhelmed.
âAz?â you asked softly, setting the book down, confused by the way he was staring at you as if he had never seen you before.
Azriel didnât answer right away. Instead, he moved toward you in slow, deliberate steps, kneeling in front of you on the couch. His large hands, always so steady and sure, reached out to gently grasp your own. He stared at you for a long moment, his breath uneven, his eyes searching yours as if trying to confirm what he was feeling.
âYouâŠâ His voice was hoarse, barely above a whisper. âYour scent⊠itâs changed.â
You blinked, a wave of understanding suddenly dawning on you as the words settled in. Your heart raced as you processed what he meant. You had suspected for a whileâsmall changes, subtle signsâbut to hear it like this, to see the way Azriel was reactingâŠ
âIââ you started, but your voice cracked as emotion welled up in your chest. You squeezed his hands, your own shaking slightly. âI think⊠I think Iâm pregnant.â
Azrielâs breath hitched, and his hands instinctively moved to rest on your stomach, even though it was too early for any visible change. His eyes, normally so shadowed and controlled, filled with tears that he couldnât hold back. His entire body seemed to tremble with the weight of what he was feeling, as if the realization had hit him like a tidal wave.
âYouâre pregnant,â he whispered, his voice filled with awe and disbelief, as if saying it out loud would make it real. Tears spilled down his cheeks, and before you could say another word, he wrapped you in his arms, burying his face in your neck.
âI can feel it,â he murmured against your skin, his voice thick with emotion. âI can feel them⊠our child⊠part of you, part of me.â
You felt a tear slide down your own cheek as you held him close, feeling the way his entire body shook with the intensity of his emotions. Azriel, who had always been so strong, so in control, was now trembling in your arms, overwhelmed by the news that you were carrying his child.
He pulled back slightly to cup your face in his hands, his thumbs gently brushing away your tears. âYouâre carrying our baby,â he whispered again, his eyes full of wonder, as if he couldnât quite believe it.
You nodded, smiling through the tears. âYes, Az,â you whispered back. âWeâre going to have a baby.â
Azriel let out a soft, broken laugh, his wings curling around you protectively as if he could shield you and your child from the world. He kissed you deeply, tenderly, as though trying to pour every ounce of love he felt into that single moment.
When he pulled back, his face was still wet with tears, but there was a smileâa real, unguarded smileâthat lit up his entire face.
âI love you,â he whispered, pressing his forehead against yours. âI love you so much. I didnât know⊠I didnât know I could feel this much.â
You smiled through your tears, your hands resting over his on your stomach. âI love you too, Azriel.â
And in that moment, wrapped in his wings and his love, you knew that this was the beginning of something beautiful. Azriel, who had always been your strength and protector, now had a new roleâa father. And the joy and love that filled the room was almost overwhelming, as the two of you shared the quiet wonder of knowing that soon, you would become a family.

You and Gojo are happily dating until Gojo grows closer to your new friend. WC. 2k
a/n: I wrote this out of boredom so itâs more of a drabble (á”âáŽâ) not proofread and short!!
You and Gojo decide to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon together, starting with a visit to your favorite coffee shop. The place has a cozy, inviting atmosphere, with soft music playing in the background and the gentle hum of conversation creating a comforting buzz.
As you wait in line to place your order, you notice a familiar face at a nearby table. Itâs Hana, the new friend you recently made at a local art class. Sheâs sitting alone, engrossed in a book, with a half-empty cup of coffee in front of her.
A smile spreads across your face as you wave to her. âHana! Hey!â
Hana looks up, her eyes lighting up with recognition and delight. âY/N! Hi!â she replies, closing her book and waving you over.
You glance at Gojo, whoâs busy contemplating the menu. âDo you mind if we join my friend for a bit?â you ask him.
He looks up, smiling warmly. âOf course, lead the way.â
You approach Hanaâs table, Gojo following close behind. âHana, this is my boyfriend, satoru. Satoru, this is Hana. We met at that art class I told you about.â
Gojo extends his hand, his usual confident and charming demeanor on full display. âNice to meet you, Hana.â
Hana shakes his hand, smiling brightly. âNice to meet you too, satoru. Y/N has told me so much about you.â
Gojo raises an eyebrow, casting a playful glance your way. âAll good things, I hope.â
You laugh, rolling your eyes. âOf course. Only the best.â
The three of you sit down together, and the conversation flows effortlessly. Hana and Gojo quickly find common ground, discussing everything from books to travel to the latest movies. Youâre happy to see them getting along so well, and the afternoon passes in a blur of laughter and engaging conversation.
At one point, you excuse yourself to go to the restroom. As you walk away, you canât help but glance back and smile at the sight of Gojo and Hana chatting animatedly. You feel a sense of contentment knowing that your boyfriend and your friend are hitting it off.
When you return, Gojo and Hana are laughing about something you missed, their faces lit up with genuine enjoyment. âWhat did I miss?â you ask, slipping back into your seat.
Gojo grins at you. âJust telling Hana about that time we got lost on our road trip and ended up at that quirky little diner.â
Hana chuckles, shaking her head. âSounds like quite an adventure. You two must have so much fun together.â
You nod, feeling a swell of affection for Gojo. âWe do. Heâs always full of surprises.â
As the afternoon turns into early evening, the three of you eventually decide to leave the coffee shop. Hana has other plans, so you part ways with promises to meet up again soon.
Walking back to your car, you feel Gojoâs arm drape around your shoulders. âHanaâs great,â he says, genuinely impressed. âI can see why you two get along so well.â
You smile up at him. âIâm glad you like her. Itâs nice to have friends who get along with my boyfriend.â
He gives you a squeeze, his expression softening. âAnything that makes you happy makes me happy.â
You lean into him, feeling a sense of contentment and security. Little did you know that this simple meeting would set off a chain of events that would eventually test the strength of your relationship. For now, youâre just grateful to have spent another wonderful day with the person you love.
The initial delight of Hana and Gojo's instant friendship has started to wear thin for you. What once seemed like an innocuous bond now feels like an ever-growing chasm between you and Gojo. You find yourself spending more evenings alone, as Gojo increasingly makes plans with Hana.
Itâs another Friday night, and youâre sitting on the couch, scrolling through your phone absentmindedly. Gojo had promised you a movie night, but heâs late. Again. You glance at the clock, feeling the familiar knot of disappointment in your stomach.
The door finally opens, and Gojo walks in, looking carefree and cheerful. âHey, sorry Iâm late,â he says, not meeting your eyes as he kicks off his shoes. âHana wanted to check out this new cafĂ©, and we lost track of time.â
You force a smile, trying to hide your frustration. âItâs okay. Did you have fun?â
He nods enthusiastically, sitting down next to you. âYeah, it was great. You should come next time!â
You sigh inwardly, knowing that heâs said this before but never actually made it happen. âSure,â you reply, trying to keep the conversation light. âWhat about our movie night?â
Gojoâs face falls slightly, as if heâd forgotten. âOh, right. We can still watch something now if you want.â
You shake your head, the disappointment evident in your voice. âItâs late, Satoru. Iâm actually kind of tired.â
He frowns, sensing the tension but not understanding its depth. âOkay, weâll do it another night then.â
The weeks continue in a similar fashion. Gojo spends more and more time with Hana, and despite his attempts to include you, it never quite works out. You try to communicate your feelings, but every time you bring it up, he brushes it off, assuring you that youâre overthinking things.
Tonight, youâre determined to have a good time. You dress up, hoping to remind Gojo of what you share. The party is in full swing when you arrive, music blasting and people chatting animatedly. You stick close to Gojo at first, but soon heâs drawn away by Hana.
You watch them from across the room, your heart sinking as they laugh together, seemingly lost in their own world. You try to join the conversation, but they seem to share a connection that makes you feel like an outsider.
Eventually, you decide to give them space, hoping that mingling with other friends will lift your spirits. But as the night goes on, you canât shake the uneasy feeling. Your eyes constantly drift back to Gojo and Hana.
Near midnight, you decide to find Gojo and suggest heading home. As you make your way through the crowded house, you freeze at the sight of them in the corner. Gojo leans in, his lips meeting Hanaâs in a kiss thatâs all too intimate.
Your heart shatters. The room seems to close in on you, and the noise fades into a dull roar. You feel a mix of anger, hurt, and betrayal as you watch the person you love with someone else.
Gathering your courage, you step forward. âSatoru!â you call out, your voice trembling.
He pulls back abruptly, his eyes widening in shock and guilt as he sees you. âY/N, itâs not what it looks like,â he starts, but the hurt in your eyes stops him.
Hana looks horrified, realizing the gravity of what just happened. âY/N, Iâm so sorry,â she says, but you canât bear to hear it.
Tears stream down your face as you turn and push through the crowd, desperate to get away. Gojo follows you, calling your name, but you donât stop until youâre outside, the cool night air hitting your face.
âY/N, please,â Gojo pleads, catching up to you. âLet me explain.â
You spin around, the pain and anger boiling over. âExplain what, Satoru? That you kissed my friend? That you made me feel like Iâm not enough?â
He looks stricken, his usually confident demeanor shattered. âIâve been an idiot. I got too close to Hana and I let it get out of hand. But I love you, Y/N. Youâre the one I want to be with.â
You shake your head, your voice breaking. âHow can I believe that after everything? How am I supposed to trust you again?â
Gojo steps closer, his eyes filled with desperation. âIâll do anything to make this right. Iâll cut ties with Hana if thatâs what it takes. Just please, give me a chance to fix this.â
You take a deep breath, trying to steady yourself. âYou think that will fix what youâve done?â
Gojo looks down, his voice trembling. âI... Iâm sorryââ
âThat wonât fix what youâve done, Satoru.â You breathe out, your voice shaky with emotion. âYou threw away our relationship like it was nothing.â
His heart pounds in his chest, a mixture of fear and regret. He reaches out to touch your arm, but you pull away, the pain and anger in your eyes making him flinch. âPlease, Y/N, it wasnât like that. I never meant for any of this to happen. I got caught up, I made a terrible mistake. But I love you. Youâre the one I want.â
You shake your head, tears streaming down your face. âIf you loved me, you wouldnât have kissed her. You wouldnât have neglected me for weeks. Do you have any idea how worthless youâve made me feel?â
Gojoâs face crumples, genuine fear and regret in his eyes. âI know I messed up, but please, donât give up on us. Iâll do anything, just tell me how to fix this.â
You let out a bitter laugh, the sound harsh in the quiet night. âThereâs nothing you can do to fix this, Satoru. The trust is gone. Every time I look at you, all Iâll see is you with her. How am I supposed to move past that?â
He steps back, running a hand through his hair in frustration. âIâll prove to you that I can change. Iâll make it right, I swear.â
âProve it?â you scoff, the hurt turning into anger. âYou should have been proving it all along, not now when itâs too late. You didnât care about us when you were spending all your time with her. Now youâre scared because youâre losing me.â
Gojoâs eyes widen, tears forming as he realizes the truth in your words. âI am scared. Iâm terrified of losing you. Please, just give me a chance.â
You shake your head, the weight of his betrayal pressing down on you. âI canât, Satoru. I canât keep waiting for you to realize what you have until itâs gone.â
He falls silent, the reality of your words sinking in. He looks lost, broken, and you feel a pang of sympathy, but itâs overshadowed by the pain heâs caused.

Hiii!!! If your requests are open could you do an injury fic with Luke and a Persephone reader? Where she gets hurt during capture the flag or smth like that and this man starts stressing even if heâs on the opposite team and didnât know what was going on when she got hurt?
luke castellan x daughter of persephone!reader summary: you get hurt during capture the flag and luke gets worried wc: 885
Luke Castellan is very particular about his capture the flag team, and everyone at camp knew that, which is why it came as a surprise when you and him were on separate teams.
When asked, he would just say that the two of you had decided to have a competition on who could create the better capture the flag strategy, but it was deeper than that. The two of you had a small fight because you felt that he never let you help with the strategy enough, and you felt like he never really let you in on the combat. It was almost like he thought of you as a delicate flower, and when you brought it up, he got irritated, telling you that he wasn't trying to control you, he just didn't want you to get hurt.
You'd gotten mad and stormed out, and now neither of you knew where you stood, and preparing for capture the flag against him wasn't helping at all. The few days leading up to capture the flag were some of the most hostile days each month, and this time was no exception. It may just be a camp war game to some campers, but to others, especially your teammate Clarisse, this was a big deal. Clarisse was always rude and quite hostile towards your boyfriend, but it was worse than ever now.
You and Clarisse were an unexpected duo, but you two had a special connection, considering each other your best friend, so when you told her what happened between you and Luke, she was pissed off, to say the least.
"Thanks for telling me that, I'm gonna hand his ass to him on Friday," she said, running her hand along your arm, trying to comfort you to her best ability.
"Thanks, Clarisse, I can always count on you if I want someone to get beat up," you joked, making her laugh.
The next few days went by quickly, you and Clarisse rigorously training with each other and going over your plan as co-captains. You'd always loved being on the same team as Clarisse before you started dating Luke, and now you finally got to be again.
On the day of capture the flag, you and all the campers headed into the forest, getting into your positions. The game began, and you and Clarisse charged into the other team's territory.
As a daughter of Persephone, you had the ability to manipulate certain plants, which was helpful, especially at camp, because you could control almost all of the plants that were there. Unfortunately, with great power comes a great ego boost, which you fell victim to.
You and Clarisse were basically wiping the floor with your opponents, when you got caught up in your head, confidence overflowing, and tried to create a longer vine, accidentally tripped over it, and fell right into the sword of the camper you were fighting. Luckily, you had managed to move your body so that you didn't get stabbed anywhere fatal, but you did get an incredibly deep cut right under your ribcage, which caught the attention of Clarisse. Seeing you injured fueled Clarisse's rage, and she quickly finished the fight.
Immediately, she picked you up bridal style, rushing you through the woods to the infirmary. She passed by Luke, and at first he ignored it, but then he did a double take after realizing it was Clarisse, and saw you in her arms, blood soaking through your orange Camp Half-Blood shirt. Even though he was in the middle of a fight, he booked it in the direction the two of you were heading, now full of worry.
He finally caught up to the two of you, surprised at how quick Clarisse was. When Clarisse caught sight of him, she cracked her knuckles and gave him the dirtiest look you had even seen in your life. You bit back a laugh.
Luke rushed up to where you were sitting on the bed.
"Baby, are you okay? Please tell me you're okay," he said, voice filled with desperation.
You gave him a pained look, gesturing to the large blood-soaked bandage covering the left side of your abdomen. "Well, I have a near fatal hole going through my side, but other than that, I'm great," you say dryly.
"C'mon, don't be that way. I'm sorry for what happened last week, okay? But see, this is why I'm so protective. I can't let anything happen to you, I don't want to lose anyone else," he whispers, eyes glazed over.
At this point, Clarisse is long gone. Knowing her, she probably left because she couldn't stand to see you and Luke being all 'lovey dovey,' as she calls it.
"Well... yeah. I guess I see your point. But I still think that you should let me help more, please."
"Okay, you're right. I know you're perfectly capable, I'm just scared. I've lost too many people and losing you would be too much to handle, so please be more careful, okay?" He eyes your bandage, giving you a grimace.
You respond by pulling him down to your face by his shirt, and give him a sweet kiss, which he reciprocates almost immediately. It almost made you laugh how quickly he kisses you back, even though it happens every time.

ALL OF MY WORKS ARE 18+ MINORS DNI
You brush past me in the hallway, and you donât think I can see you, do you? Iâve been watchinâ you for ages, and I spend my time trying not to feel itâŠ
Hawkins High, September 1984
Heâs so pretty sometimes that itâs disgusting.
Thatâs really the only thing you think when you watch Steve Harrington sneak up on his girlfriend, Nancy Wheeler, and swoop her off the ground in front of her locker. From across the hall, your locker hangs open, your body turned halfway toward them so that you can pretend that youâre not staring.
You stare a lot.
Itâs not exactly the hair, you think- everyone shits a brick about his hair, for some reason that you donât understand. Yeah, itâs nice⊠but you like everything else about him, too. You like how sweet he looks when he laughs. You like the way that he holds himself and the way that he looks when he puts his hands on his hips and stands around like heâs directing the traffic around him. You like how much of a prince charming he is, really. It would surprise you if he doesnât win prom king at the end of the year. They already call him King Steve, itâs not too far of a stretch.
You close your locker just as Steve kisses Nancy, in front of god and everybody in the C Corridor hallway. Steveâs arms wrap around Nancyâs petite frame and he dips her, like theyâre in some sort of George Peck and Audrey Hepburn movie. Not that the place is much of a cinematic setting, though. Down the hall, the science rooms are doing their dissection units, so the whole place smells like formaldehyde and disinfectant, and you sort of feel like curling up into one of those dissection pans and dying, yourself.Â
That should be me, your brain screams. Me!!
Itâs always been like this. Youâve had a crush on Steve since freshman year- the fact that heâs dating Nancy, whoâs a year younger than him, doesnât escape your jealous mind. Youâve been in classes with him for four years, youâve admired him quietly, youâve hoped and prayed that he somehow noticed you noticing him.
You donât think he knows you exist. Four years- and now youâre both seniors, about to graduate, and he still doesnât notice you. You should really stop caring, or stop trying, or stop⊠pining. Or something.Â
You hike your bag up onto your shoulder and juggle your books in your arms. The bell rings, and quite suddenly the entire hallway erupts into pandemonium (predictable, sure, considering everyone loiters around instead of actually getting to class on time). Kids fly around you in all directions to get to their next classroom. Nancy Wheeler ducks away from Steve Harrington, avoiding yet another kiss.
God, you wish you could kiss him.
Someone slams into your shoulder from behind, muscling past you to get to science lab 5, rat central. Your binder slips out of the stack of books in your arms and clatters loudly to the ground, just as someone walks past and kicks it across the floor.
âFuck,â you spit, chasing after it. The back of your neck feels hot. For the first time in four years, you hope to god that Steve Harrington doesnât notice you.Â
You duck around peopleâs legs, trying to grab at your binder, while not trying to drop any more of the books in your arms. Loose papers are starting to fall out of the binder as it skitters across the floor, and this is becoming more and more of a comedy of errors by the minute.
Your fingers just brush the corner of it before someone kicks it again.Â
âDo you mind?â you snap as they walk away, not even looking in your direction. Crouched close to the floor, you donât matter. Maybe you could count that as a blessing, considering you donât want to be perceived right now.
You finally just throw away all dignity and crawl across the tile floor- disgusting and dirty and covered in sandy grit, as though it hasnât been cleaned all year- to get to your binder.Â
And you come face to face with a pair of white Nikeâs. Ones that you know way too well, because youâve stared at them every time theyâve passed you in the hallway.Â
Nonononono- You clench your jaw and then look up, way up, to find Steve Harrington towering over you.Â
He looks like he was about to just step around you, but then he notices you gazing up at him from all fours, and his hazel eyes lock on yours. You blink at each other for a second before he flushes, a pink blush breaking out on his cheeks and crawling up his neck, and he looks away quickly, but crouches down to grab your binder before your hand can land on it.Â
âSorry,â Steve says quietly, gathering up the couple papers that had started to slide out of the folders inside. You sit back on your heels, your blood rushing in your ears, mortified. His big hands gently poke the papers back into the folder as they should be before he hands it to you. âLooks like youâre gonna be late to class.â
You scoff. âLook whoâs talking.â
Steveâs eyes find yours again, and heâs finally so close to you that you can admire the little bit of green in them. Youâve never been close enough to notice before.
He cracks a lopsided smile, one that he uses to charm people, you know- youâve seen him use it on teachers and cute girls alike. âIâm always late to the party. But I get there, eventually.â
âI hope so.â He cocks his head at you. He doesnât know the real meaning to your words- or, at least, you donât think he does.Â
I hope you donât stay oblivious forever, Steve Harrington. I hope you get there, eventually.
You take your binder from him, but you pull your eyes away from his a bit later than you properly should. âThanks, Steve.â
You get up and take off toward your next class, walking quickly so that you donât come off like youâre lingering too long. But, halfway down the hall, you look over your shoulder at him.
Steve hasnât moved, still crouched down close to the floor, with his head bent like heâs deep in thought. With his back to you, you can still see the pink flush on the back of his neck, peeking out above his collared shirt.
âCause I can see you, waiting down the hall from me, and I can see you up against the wall with me. What would you do? Baby, if you only knew that I can see youâŠ
Hawkins High, April 1985
Prom season sucks. Always has, and always will.Â
Maybe it was your fault for hoping that Logan Sawyer, popular prick extraordinaire, was serious about wanting to take you to prom. He seemed serious enough, stopping by your locker during passing period and leaning over you as he asked you, his mega-watt smile making you blush. Youâd counted yourself lucky- you didnât think anyone was going to ask you, and people arenât allowed to go to prom stag.
It took Logan two weeks to find a prettier girl to go with, though. You donât know why it hurts so much. Maybe itâs because you wanted to believe that you were someoneâs first choice, but it never quite seems to turn out that way.
You wipe your tears in the mirror, scowling at your puffy, bloodshot eyes. The bathroom next to the girlsâ locker room in the sports wing is completely deserted at this time- the boysâ gym class is in session now, and youâre cutting into your lunch time, but you really donât want to have to go and cry at a lunch table, in front of a bunch of your bitchy peers, who will inevitably make fun of you for it.
Sniffling, but slightly more composed, you head out of the bathroom. The sports wing is ridiculously bigger than any other wing of the school (typical of American public schools, to prioritize sports over every other department). The wing boasts weight training rooms, dance rooms, three separate gymnasiums, and a door directly to the football field, with the locker rooms on the farthest end to allow for easy access to the field. Connecting all of these rooms is the longest corridor in the building, which seems to run for half a fucking mile.
Youâll have to walk that half mile, because in order to get to the cafeteria, youâre gonna have to traverse the entire building. You might not get to eat much today, but it was a sacrifice you were willing to make. Maybe Mrs. Marshall will be kind enough to let you snack on a granola bar in your next class period.
Halfway down the long hallway, you feel the angry sting of tears behind your eyes again, and your face screws up in frustration. You stop, turning halfway back toward the girlsâ bathroom, wondering if you should just go back in and allow yourself to cry some more.
Suck it up, you think to yourself, smacking at your tear stained cheeks. Heâs not the guy you really want to ask you to prom, anyways.
You press your fingertips into your eyes to relieve the sting of tears, taking a deep breath. Being in high school is driving you crazy. At this point in the year, the teachers have given up teaching, the students have given up learning, and youâre basically just biding your time in a glorified babysitting service until you can inevitably grab your diploma and get out of here. You canât wait for that time to arrive.Â
A door opens further down the hallway, in the direction of the cafeteria. You wipe your nose once and keep moving in the direction you were going, not wanting to draw attention to yourself, standing in the middle of the hallway having a breakdown.
Moving forwards, you keep your eyes on the ground. Once you hear the door that had been opened slam shut again, you figure that whoever it was has moved on down the hallway, and you lift your eyes again.Â
They have not, in fact, moved on. And you suddenly have the urge to turn and fucking run back into the girlsâ bathroom, because Steve Harrington is bent over at the drinking fountain, directly outside the boysâ weight room.
What the fuck, what the fuck. You suck on your teeth, trying not to falter in your stride. Maybe he hasnât seen you, and you can just pass him up. Itâs fine, he hasnât seen you crying.Â
Your mind backtracks to the beginning of the year, you fumbling your binder all the way across the hallway and ending up right in front of him, crawling toward him. Looking up at him and probably, most definitely, making him really uncomfortable.
You have English class together, where you sit at the desk closest to the door. He comes in late almost every day, so he passes by you every time. Some days he looks at your desk. On good days, he meets your eye. But he hasnât spoken to you since that day in September, and you really shouldnât hold out hope that he will.Â
You definitely donât want him to notice you when youâve been crying, your face is a mess, your hair is limp and you look bedraggled. You just want to fade into the background of your next class with whatever snack you can get from the cafeteria snuck into your bag, so you can stress eat it without any guff from a teacher (like you arenât 18 and capable of deciding when you are and arenât allowed to eat).
You keep your eyes down. If you donât look at him, he doesnât exist.
Except, Steve Harrington always exists, in the back of your mind, and in your periphery. He is impossible not to notice, as per usual. He really just draws the eye like a magnet. Try as you might, your eyes keep flicking up to take stock of him.Â
Heâs wearing a uniform gray P.E. shirt and gym shorts that donât leave a lot to the imagination, and you fixate on his thighs more than you should. He has sweat dripping down his neck, wetting his hair on the sides of his face and the seam of his shirt. It shouldnât be attractive. He shouldnât be attractive. With his face a mess. And his hair limp, and looking bedraggled. Truly, you make a priceless pair, being the only two people in the hallway.
Weâre perfect for each other, a voice says in your head. And you manage, for the first time in an hour, to crack a smile down at your shoes.
He finishes getting his drink at the fountain, and you figure that heâll just go back into the weight room and not see you. But, of course, luck is not on your side.
Steve Harrington looks at you. And you look away, quickly, acting like you hadnât been staring at him. And in your periphery, again, you see him stretch his arms over his head, and then turn and lean against the cinderblock wall beside the door to the weight room, with his hands on his knees as though heâs catching his breath.
Youâve got to be fucking kidding me.
He does it so casually, and with the way heâs sweating and his face is flushed, youâre sure that he probably does just want to take a break before going in and lifting more weights. But something in the back of your mind says that the maneuver was too purposeful, immediately after he laid eyes on you.Â
It could just be wishful thinking on your part. You heard through the grapevine that Steve and Nancy Wheeler broke up in a nasty way just before winter break, and it doesnât seem like heâs been interested in anyone since. He hasnât dated anyone, hasnât flirted with any girls or showed up at any parties. Nancy must have really broken his heart.
You know too well what that feels like, right now.
Nearing where he leans against the wall, you keep your head down and you plan on just passing by without any acknowledgement from him, same as it ever was. If heâs still carrying a torch for Nancy, youâre sure that he doesnât want anything to do with you. Youâve nearly convinced yourself of it.
But then you hear your name called quietly, and it nearly makes you jump. You look over at him, thinking youâre just hearing things, but you look directly into a pair of hazel eyes again, and you feel yourself rocketing back in time to September.
You didnât even think he knew your name.
You slow to a stop. It would be rude not to stop, right? âUh⊠hi, Steve. You good?â
Steve Harrington looks you up and down, while he leans against the wall and breathes a bit heavily, like heâs out of breath. He peers at you through long eyelashes, looking impossibly inviting despite everything; the setting, your appearances, the way that you feel like dissolving into a puddle right in front of him. âYeah, great. You?â
Heâs scrutinizing your face now. You shrug, since heâs already seen you, and thereâs no way to pretend you werenât crying thirty seconds ago. âIâm fine. Just being dramatic, donât worry about me.âÂ
âWhen people say not to worry about them, it usually means that you should,â Steve muses. He looks coy, like heâs speaking from experience.Â
You sigh, stepping forward to get your own drink from the drinking fountain. âLogan Sawyer called off our date for prom.â
âOh.â Steve pauses for a few seconds, watching as you bend down and take your drink, more silent than he usually is. âI mean⊠that really sucks. Iâm sorry. But⊠Logan Sawyer?â Â
âYeah.â You wipe your mouth, and then wet the ends of your fingers and use the cool water to rub at your stinging eyes again. When youâre done, you lean up against the wall beside him, letting your back settle into the cinderblock.
âThe guyâs a fucking douche.â
âTell me about it.â
âNo, I mean it, I think itâs a good thing youâre not going to prom with him. Heâs really shitty to girls.â You look up at Steve, whoâs watching you with his arms crossed, with the most serious expression youâve ever seen him wear. âI mean, the only guy worse than Logan is probably⊠I dunnoâŠâ
âBilly Hargrove?âÂ
Steve laughs. Actually laughs. Youâve wanted to make him laugh like that for four years. His cheeks turn crimson and he grins down at his shoes, snickering like thereâs way more to the joke heâs laughing at than you even know about. âYeah. Yeah, heâs gotta be the worst.â
You chuckle, albeit with a sadder tone than he has. âWell, Iâm not going to prom with either of them. So, I can count my blessings. I guess.â
Steve frowns, and he looks like heâs going to say something else, but youâre already turning away, not wanting to continue the depressing conversation about your lack of dates. Especially not from the one guy who you desperately want to go on a date with.
You get a few steps away before he takes a step after you, saying, âWait. You, uh-â
You stop, and look back at him. He looks dumbfounded, his arm outstretched like he was going to try to grab you if you didnât listen to him. When you frown, he steps back against the wall, bringing his hand up to run through his hair.Â
Oh . Thatâs a nervous tick. You know it, because youâve watched him do it more than once in English, in front of the class during a presentation.
Steve looks down at his shoes, his brow scrunched in thought. He looks like heâs really trying to find the right words to say. In your head, a hopeful part of you imagines what those words could be. âWill you go to prom with me?â
Finally, he looks up at you resolutely. âYouâll find someone to take you to prom. Iâm sure of it.â He nods a little, like heâs reassuring himself that he said the right thing.Â
You canât help the smile that springs onto your face. Itâs incredulous, of course, but he canât know that. Keep trying, baby. Youâll get there, eventually.
âThanks, Steve.â Itâs the second time you thank him in the course of the year.
But what would you do if I went to touch you now? What would you do if they never found us out? What would you do if we never made a sound?
Prom Night, May 1985
The dress youâre wearing is sleek and a lot simpler than some of the more popular styles on the dance floor, but you like it more than you care to admit. Youâd just grabbed it off the rack at Macyâs, and beyond that you didnât want to go all-out for prom. It turns out that your lab partner, Gavin Connelly, needed a date, too. So, youâre here with him, because you knew that if you missed prom, you would probably regret it.
Except, well.
Gavin, stoned out of his fucking mind, is sitting at one of the tables, nursing a cup of punch, looking like heâs two seconds from falling asleep. Youâve taken to making the rounds and saying hi to anyone you can call a âfriend,â because youâre tired of just loitering next to him. Something tells you he didnât want to even be here.
The speakers are playing âTotal Eclipse of the Heart,â and couples are swaying on the dance floor in a Bonnie Tyler-induced haze. At a loss for people to bother, you wander back over to your date to find his head plastered to the white table cloth.Â
You glance to the guy sitting next to him, a kid with glasses who you donât recognize but who seems to know your date, because heâs just patting Gavinâs back. âIs he okay?â
âOh, no, heâs dying.â The kid shoots you a sarcastic smile.Â
You nod, pressing your tongue hard to the roof of your mouth. âWell, if he wakes up, tell him Iâm getting some air.â
Fuck this. Fuck prom. Fuck high school boys.
Your heels, which are killing your feet already, click loudly on the tile hallway floor as you exit the gym. The table where you can check your bag and coat are located at the other end of the hall, where everyone is supposed to enter through the door to the football field.
You can hear voices from the far end of the hall, and Bonnie Tylerâs voice fading out the further you get from the gym. You might never be able to hear that song again without thinking of your ruined slow dance opportunity.
As you pass by, someone coughs off to the left and you turn your head to see Steve Harrington, black tie and all, loitering in the shadows. You stop a few feet from him and squint into the dark.
You canât believe it. He always seems to show up at the worst times. âWhat are you doing, skulking around?âÂ
âIâm not sulking.â
You snort, stepping into the shadows with him. âNo, skulk- like, sneaking around?âÂ
âWell, I didnât mean to sneak-â he looks over his shoulder at the gym entrance. âIâm just getting some air.â
âFunny,â you murmur. âI was just about to do the same thing.â
He eyes you, a lot like he did a few weeks ago in this same hallway, further up toward the other end of it. He takes in your hair, styled painstakingly to âperfection,â or as close as you could approximate it, and your off-the-rack department store dress. You suddenly feel like you arenât as pretty as you thought you were at the beginning of the night.Â
But then he meets your eye, and all those insecurities fade into the back of your mind. Heâs smiling at you, and that can only be a good thing.
âSo, uhâŠâ Steve leans back against the wall, his hands in his pockets, âYou found someone to take you?â
You press your lips into a tight line. You donât really want to think about your date right now, but- âGavin Connelly.â
âWho?â
You laugh, kicking the heel of your shoe against the ground with a soft clack. âYeah. God, I wish I didnât know him right now.â
âWhy, whatâd he do?â Steve sounds perturbed. You look up to find him scowling already.
âOh, he just ate a pot brownie before he picked me up and passed out at one of the tables.â You finish with a tired giggle, shrugging at Steve as he peers at you with an annoyed expression. âWho did you bring?â
âKelly Palmer.âÂ
You know Kelly. She doesnât say much, but sheâs gotten a scholarship to a big art school. âDo you like her?â
âYeah, sheâs nice,â he says mildly. Unconvincingly.
You can understand the subtext. Sheâs not Nancy. When you look at his face, he seems tortured in the low light coming from down the hall.
âGuess Iâm oh-for-two,â Steve adds after a pause. âLast yearâs prom, Nance and I didnât have such a good time, either.â
You nod. It seems like thereâs more he wants to say, but he doesnât. âIâm sorry,â you offer. You donât know the ins-and-outs of Steve and Nancyâs relationship, aside from watching them suck face in the hallway five paces from you for a year and a half. âProm sucks. High school sucks. These canât be the best years of our lives, trust me.â
âYeah, I hope not.âÂ
âI just canât wait to get out of here, you know,â you grumble, allowing your sour mood to come out a little more than normal. It seems like Steve is just really good at getting you to let your guard down. âIâm planning to go to Chicago for college. This is all just⊠you know, itâs just the starting point. What about you, any big plans?â
âDunno. I didnât get accepted to any schools, so Iâll just be getting a job here in town until something better comes along.â Steve shifts, his heel hitting the wall behind him. He looks disappointed when he says, âI think I made too many mistakes.âÂ
You frown, chewing on your lip. âWhat do you mean?â
He gives you a heavy look, like heâs gearing up to say something important, something game changing- and then his gaze softens.Â
âYouâve got an eyelash.â He gestures to his own eye, like itâll make you understand exactly where the loose one is on your face.
âOh.â You falter, lifting your manicured hands and wiping at your undereyes. âDid I get it?â
âNo, uh- here, I can-â Steve tentatively reaches forward, and you step toward him to let him touch your face.Â
Steve Harrington is touching your face. Â
His fingertip brushes your cheekbone, so featherlight you would barely feel it if you werenât hyper aware of everything that he said or did. His touch glides across your cheek and toward your temple, and then he seems to keep it there, his hand hovering just over your skin.
Reflexively, your hand comes up to rest on his shoulder. Youâre inches from Steveâs face, your eyes falling to his lips.
You could kiss him. You could live your fantasy, right now.
Steveâs gaze lingers on your face for a moment, and then he says, âYouâre so beautiful.â
Your heart lurches in your chest. He doesnât say that you look beautiful. He doesnât say it conditionally, like itâs just for tonight. You are beautiful. Even when youâre crawling on all fours after your binder. Even when youâre crying, and your hair is limp, and you look bedraggled.
âSteveâŠâ you whisper, inching closer to him.Â
âSTEVE??!â
You jump away from him like heâs burned you, and peek around the hall corner to see Kelly Palmer standing outside the gym looking up and down the hall, searching for him. She looks lost, and sad, like he must have ditched.
She looks an awful lot like you just did, coming out of that gym.
You feel Steveâs hand where it had fallen to your wrist, dragging your attention gently back to him. You take his hand and squeeze it once, giving him a tight smile.Â
âYou brought her here for a good time,â you say with your bravest smile. âJust donât pass out at one of the tables on her, okay?â
Donât be a douche. Donât be like Logan Sawyer.Â
Steve swallows, and gives you a short nod. You think he finally got there.
You give a soft pat to the lapel of his suit jacket. âGo get âem, tiger.âÂ
He touches your arm one final time before he slips around the corner, just as Kelly turns to go back into the gym. You watch him walk away, and you think to yourself, Thatâs the last time I chase after Steve Harrington.
Wherever there is, itâs not with you.
Steve loops his arms around Kellyâs waist and lifts her, earning a thrilled squeal as the silver taffeta of her dress glints blue in the light from the gym. You wait until theyâve disappeared back into it before you turn and high-tail it toward the coat check table.
And we kept everything professional, but somethingâs changed, itâs something I like. They keep watchful eyes on us, so itâs best if we move fast and keep quietâŠ
Starcourt Mall, June 1985
âCome on, itâs ridiculously hot outside,â your best friend, Shelly, groans as she pulls you along by the wrist. âI canât believe they only have one ice cream place here.â
âIâm sure they have slushies at the-â
âIce. Cream.â You know better than to argue with her.
Scoops Ahoy has a novelty nautical theme that makes you want to both laugh and break down in tears when you see it. The PA is playing a cutesy rendition of Drunken Sailor on accordion, and you think that if you keep looking at the striped wallpaper behind the counter, you might get literally seasick. In the mall. In landlocked Indiana.Â
Or⊠is it landlocked if it fronts Lake Michigan? It doesnât matter. Youâll be in Chicago in two days, anyways.
You let Shelly drag you along until you look towards the front counter, and you see something that nearly makes you trip and face plant into Shellyâs fresh perm.
Even Shelly pauses. âIs that who I think it is?â
Itâs something about the stupid little sailorâs cap and shorts, and that heâs so, so pretty in it, you think. Itâs also something about how you have the perfect vantage point to watch him try and fail to flirt with the girl that approaches the counter to order. Youâre enamored with him. Thereâs no other way to describe it.Â
You have half a mind to run away, after what you promised yourself on prom night over a month ago. Youâd done good, you didnât search for him in the halls, you ignored him in your last couple of class periods with him. Youâd even been in the bathroom when his name was called at graduation.Â
But, here he is. Steve Harrington, absolutely obliterating his chances of getting a date with the girl ordering a sundae ahead of you.Â
Honestly, you donât know what youâre waiting for. Maybe an invitation? A sign from god that todayâs the day that youâll make a move? Or maybe this is just a test of will.
You stop resisting Shellyâs attempts to drag you along, and straighten your spine. You can do this. Four yearsâ worth of pining wonât make a difference in whether or not you order a strawberry ice cream cone.
Heâs even prettier up close, his rosy cheeks framed by sunkissed, wavy hair. When he sees you he stalls, going a bit wide-eyed and then seeming to realize heâs supposed to do his job. He leans heavily against the counter. âAhoy, ladies! Would you like to set sail on this ocean of flavor with me? Iâll be your captain, Steve Harrington.â
âUh-huh.â You stare at each other for a long moment. âHow much do they pay you to recite that script?â
âAbsolutely nothing, I do this for pure enjoyment.â Youâre almost sure that he doesnât. He pauses, a hand poised on his hip. âToo much?â
âIâd dial it back just a smidge. Maybe keep the ahoy and the captain thing and toss the rest.âÂ
âNoted.â He nods slowly, his eyes fixed on you. âI thought you were going to Chicago?â
âI leave the day after tomorrow,â you shrug. âStill time for me to burn the place down, you know.â
âWell, Iâm glad you stopped by,â Steve chuckles. âI could show you where the gas line is, then weâd all be in trouble.â
âOookay.â Shelly gives you a curious side-eye, and then turns back to Steve. âWell, Iâll have a U.S.S. Butterscotch with a chocolate dipped waffle bowl, if you donât mind.â
Steve tears his eyes away from you long enough to grin at Shelly. âComing right up. And for you?â
You freeze, glancing up at the menu. Itâs written in an infuriatingly cutesy code-language that you have to decipher. âUm. Iâm still deciding.â
âAll right, then. Just let me know, when youâre ready.âÂ
Steve slips away to make Shelly her sundae, a heaping pile of ice cream and butterscotch syrup that looks like the fast track to a heart attack. You alternate between trying to comprehend the menu and being distracted by Steve in that stupid sailorâs uniform.
The script on the menu may as well be written in a foreign language. Blackbeardâs Delight. Treasure Island Turtle. U.S.S. Sherbet. The sizes are even harder to understand. Fathom. League. Nautical Mile. You donât have the capacity to decipher it- your eyes are seeing the words, but your mind is traveling back to prom night, and feeling Steveâs finger on your cheek as you gear up to kiss him.
âAre you ready?â
âMhmâŠâ It takes you a second to zone back into the present moment, where Steve is standing in front of you, on the other side of the counter, waiting to take your order. He waits, with a patient smile on his face, while you blink dumbly at him.
What did you say? What did he say?
âI⊠um.â Youâre sure you look completely out of it. Your eyes flick nervously up at the menu, that you still canât fucking read. Shellyâs already gone to sit down with her sundae, the traitor.
âItâs kind of hard to understand, isnât it?â Steve says quietly after a moment, dropping the phony customer service charade. âI hate it. I think we should just be able to say what our favorite ice cream flavor is and be done with it.â
âYeah,â you murmur, still squinting up at the menu. Blackbeardâs Delight: blackberry swirl with blueberry syrup and a gold doubloon. âThe fuck is a doubloon?â
Steve snorts, and reaches under the counter before bringing back a handful of gold foil-covered chocolate coins, which he dumps into your outstretched hand. âYou want more? We get them wholesale.â
âIâm good,â you giggle, juggling the chocolate coins before they go cascading to the floor. âI think⊠I donât⊠I donât understand a thing on that menu.â
âWhatâs your favorite flavor of ice cream?â He leans forward to ask you, like it's a secret. Just between the two of you. His head bent a little to peer at you closely, so close that you can count the freckles on his skin.
You glance over your shoulder. Shelly is seated by the far wall, under a painting of a kraken, giving you an indignant look. When she notices you looking, she mouths an emphatic, âLETâS GO!â
âDonât tell anyone,â you whisper, and Steve affects his gravest expression as he nods. âStrawberry.âÂ
âA classic,â he grins. âFan of sprinkles?âÂ
âI can dig a few sprinkles.â
âPerfect. I think we have something up your alley.â He grabs a scooper out of the bin and twirls it once, just to show off. âSex on the Beach.âÂ
âWhat?â You donât remember seeing anything about that on the menu.
He glances up to smirk at you before shrugging. âItâs strawberry ice cream with peach syrup. Youâll see.â
You keep an eye on his hands behind the glass partition, watching them put two scoops of strawberry into a medium sized carton. Completely unable to rein in your thoughts before they get away from you, youâre thinking about how good they would feel under your shirt. You follow a treasure map of freckles trailing up his arms, disappearing under the blue sailorâs shirt he wears. You want to kiss every single one of them.
You finally reply, âI guess I have to put my faith in your professional ice cream slinging abilities.âÂ
âOh, havenât you heard?â Steve mutters sardonically as he squirts peach syrup across the two scoops of ice cream, giving it a golden sheen. âIâm the king of cream.â
You purse your lips as it takes Steve a second to realize what he just said. When he does, he snaps his head up to meet your eye in horror.Â
He opens his mouth to take it back, but you shake your head, holding back laughter. âDonât ruin it.â
âI think itâs pretty much ruined already.â He turns crimson, blushing down at the half-made sundae as he rapidly shakes yellow sprinkles onto it. âI was doing so good, too.â
âWho says you arenât still?â You give him a cute smile when he looks up through his lashes at you, still arranging toppings on the sundae. Youâre not sure what happened between prom and now to change him so much, but itâs almost as if heâs⊠goofy. Heâs less concerned with appearances, heâs more laid back and willing to make fun of himself.Â
You like it a lot.Â
You watch him plop two maraschinos onto one ice cream mound, and wedge a candied orange slice into the other, inverted, to look like a setting sun. As he passes it over the counter to you, he says, âHere you go, one Sex on the Beach. On the house.â
âWhat? No, I couldnât-â
âI mean it. For overlooking my stupidity,â Steve insists. He gives you a meaningful look when he adds, âA million times over.â
âIâm not overlooking anything when it comes to you, Steve,â you tell him fondly, and drop one of the doubloons into the tip jar. Itâs gaudy, gleaming artificially gold in the middle of the crumpled up dollar bills. âHang onto that. You might be able to cash it in for a kiss someday.â
Steve blinks rapidly, leaning across the counter as you walk away. âAfter you come back from Chicago, right?â
You look over your shoulder, and you wink at him.
When you finally stop in front of Shelly, and you use your plastic spoon to dig into the adorable sundae that Steve crafted for you, you remember that youâd gone up to the counter with every intention of ignoring Steve and acting like you didnât even know him.
You winked at Steve Harrington. You said youâd kiss him. You think back to the girl who was so afraid of Steve even noticing her, almost a year ago, and wonder where she went.
You look down at Shelly. Sheâd graduated a year before you, so she wasnât there to witness every blunderous interaction youâd had with Steve in school. You never told her how in love you were with him.
Now, she looks up at you coyly. âSo. Steve Harrington, huh?â
âShut up,â you grunt, looking up and out at the food court outside of the Scoops Ahoy storefront. âAs if you know everything.â
âAre you gonna try to make something out of thatâŠâ she gestures vaguely with her spoon toward the counter, âbefore school starts?âÂ
âI donât think itâs a good idea,â you say honestly, still poking at your sundae. âAnyways, I leave too soon for anything to really happen. What- I screw him tomorrow and then fuck off forever? Itâs just wishful thinking, probably.â You finally take a bite of the ice cream, just to punctuate your sentence.
âHm. Probably. How is that?â Shelly nods at the ice cream in your hand. âLooks pretty.â
âItâs the best thing Iâve ever tasted.â Youâre being honest. Something about the peach syrup with the strawberry base literally evokes the flavor of a sunset. âThey should give him a raise.â
Humming, Shelly stands and takes her half-eaten sundae. She nudges you in the direction of the door. âCâmon. Weâve gotta eat these before the next showing of The Breakfast Club.â
Steve watches you and your friend leave, with the wistful gaze of someone who just watched their greatest opportunity walk away from them. He never knew that it was possible to hate an entire geographic location, but he really wishes Chicago would get blown off the map in the next 24 hours.Â
The wooden partition doors slam open, and Robinâs head appears in the window to the kitchen. âThe cream king? Do you want me to actually hurl?â
âI said, âthe king of cream,ââ he groans, digging his knuckles into his eye sockets. âKill me, Robin. Load me into the freezer. Bury me at the fairground.â
âYou think youâre valuable enough to displace that much ice cream?â Robin rolls her eyes, and with another loud thwack, her white board appears in the space behind her. âWe donât make anything called Sex on the Beach. This is a family establishment.â
âI made it up.âÂ
Robin coos, âAww. Be still my heart. You love her to the point of invention.âÂ
Steve whirls around. âLove? Who said anything about love?âÂ
âI did.â Robin uncaps her dry-erase marker and draws a tally mark under the side that reads, you rule.
âUh, Robin,â Steve snaps, pointing at the board condescendingly. âI think you put that on the wrong side. I fucked it up.â
âDingus. Please. As much as it makes me gag- and you know I gain immense pleasure from counting how often you screw up- I could practically hear her heart eyes.â She sets the white board down, begrudgingly. âI think you found the only girl alive whoâll find all this-â she waves her hand at him, âendearing. Who was she? Some ex of yours?âÂ
âIf only,â Steve sighs, shaking his head. When he turns back to the counter, his eyes land on the single chocolate coin glinting in the tip jar.
He scoops it up with two fingers and pockets it.
You wonât believe half the things I see inside my head. Wait âtil you see half the things that havenât happened yetâŠ
Family Video, March 1986
The air conditioning nearly blasts you backwards into the parking lot. You donât know why they need it blasting so hard at 7pm, in the middle of March. Itâs not like itâs the height of summer- your spring break takes place earlier than the local schoolâs, but it just means that you get to beat the crowds when you come home to visit your family.
Of course, they love to send you to run errands. You end up picking up the groceries, and the housewares, and, on this occasion, the choices for family movie night.Â
This Family Videoâs selection isnât necessarily as extensive as the ones in Chicago, but itâs good enough. You enter the store, and it dumps you directly in front of a cardboard cutout of Phoebe Cates about to flash you. Family friendly entertainment, and all.
The TV in the corner is running the final scene of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly- Ennio Morriconeâs score plays dramatically into the empty store. Thereâs no one behind the counter currently, so you pull the list of videos your extended family members had all requested. The Breakfast Club. Camelot. The Birds. Pretty general selections for your family, but it seems like youâll have to hunt them up on your own.Â
Youâre wandering down the romance aisle, since The Breakfast Club was nowhere on the new releases or comedy shelves, when someone finally emerges from the back room. You see a flash of a head moving toward the front counter from over the top of a rack, and you take it as your chance to ask for help.
âExcuse me? Do you guys have any copies of The Breakfast Club, or-â
You stop short, choking on your words. Steve Harrington turns around to look at you, carrying a stack of VHS tapes perched under his chin, and holding a folded up piece of paper between his teeth.
You stare each other down for a second, before Steve gracefully spits the paper over his shoulder and onto the counter. âHey, um⊠long time, no see?â
âIâd say.â You tilt your head. Funny how quickly your eyes will hone in on his lips, like searching for a target every time. âWe always seem to run into each other like this. What happened to the ice cream gig?â
âStarcourt burned down,â Steve says, plopping the stack of VHS tapes down on the counter beside the paper he spit out. âRight around the Fourth of July, last summer.â
âSo, right after I last saw you?â
Steve smirks to himself before he turns back to you. âYeah. Like, a week or so after. Did you manage to burn the place down, after all?âÂ
âI wish.âÂ
You pause, taking the time to size him up. Itâs amazing what the better part of a year will do to someone, inside and out. With a striped shirt and green vest, he looks much more relaxed and casual than he had at Scoops Ahoy. His hairâs a little longer, his eyes a little darker as they rake over you, in return.Â
Youâre a little bit desperate to see whatâs going on in his head, if itâs anything like whatâs happening in yours.
You wish you could say that you tried to seek him out when you got back to town- a year ago, maybe you would have. But youâd pretty much given up on the idea of him, moving up to dating college boys who donât string you along, who donât wait until the last minute to finally try their hand at flirting with you. If he ever passed through your mind, it was with the attached hope that heâd found greener pastures than Hawkins, Indiana. Foolishly, you hoped that as long as you told yourself that heâd moved on, it would be true. And then maybe what could have been wouldnât matter anymore.
Youâd stepped back into Hawkins after half a year of college, the graveyard of all hope in your happily ever after, and you hadnât even thought of Steve Harrington. Except, seeing him now, everything comes flooding back. All the days spent pining over him. All the close brushes youâd had with finally getting the ending you wanted.Â
You have to be honest. âYou look good, Steve. You always do.â
Steve chuckles, tilting his chin down as he shoves his hands into the pockets of his light wash jeans. âBetter without the sailor costume, right?â
âAww, I liked the sailor costume.â You step closer so you can whisper, âI thought it was sexy.â
Steve peers down his nose at you, drawing himself up to tower above you at his full height. He tries to look unaffected, but you can see his ears glowing pink beneath wisps of golden highlights. âWatch it. Youâre gonna give me an ego.â
âWe donât want that, do we?â You unfold the list of movies youâre here to collect, holding it up to him between two fingers. âGot any of these movies?âÂ
Steve reads the short list, and nods to himself. âI know we have Camelot, but Iâm not sure about The Breakfast Club. Let me check in the back?âÂ
âIâll be here.â
âAll right- donât get up to any trouble, though. Iâve got my eye on you.â He points at you coolly, feigning an authoritative expression. He tries to hide his smile, but the creases around his eyes give him away.Â
âI hope you do.â You try to appear casual as you breeze past him, but you have to fiddle with your jacket collar to hide their shaking. Still, you feel the sweep of his gaze on you like rays of sun on your skin. It frightens you how easily you can fall back into the old back-and-forth routine you established in high school- how he gets you to say things you never meant to voice, but that live in your head effortlessly.Â
Steve watches you disappear down the drama aisle before he takes in a huge breath of air and bolts toward the back room. Any and all coolness he was performing disappears like so much smoke. Slamming open the door, he nearly shouts, âDo you have a doubloon?!âÂ
Robin startles, swinging around in her seat, looking away from her computer screen. âA what? Why are you yelling?â
âA doubloon, a f-fucking-â Steve looks quickly over his shoulder, out the door, and starts hunching over as he whispers, âa chocolate coin. Like one of those ones we had at Scoops, remember?â
âWhy do you want a chocolate coin?â Robin squints at him. âStop crouching like that, you look like Nosferatu.â
Steve hisses through his teeth, and heâs got a frantic edge to his expression that Robin doesnât like. âOkay- remember that girl, the one who showed up at Scoops that time, and you gave me my one and only âYou Ruleâ tally?âÂ
âNo.â
âGreat. Well, sheâs here, and she told me if I gave her one of those chocolate coins sheâd kiss me.â Steve shoves his hands through his hair, mussing up the already disheveled style. âPlease, Rob, I canât let her get away again. Iâve done it, like, a thousand times already.âÂ
âOkay, Romeo,â Robin humors him, turning around in her seat. âSo youâre saying this babe, who I very much donât remember because you always struck out while we worked at Scoops, told you that if you bribed her with chocolate sheâd kiss you?â
âYes.â
âAnd you donât think she was maybe joking?âÂ
Steve opens and closes his mouth like a fish out of water. Truthfully, he hadnât. Heâd overlooked the idea that, after everything that had happened between you, you might just be joking about kissing him.Â
âYou know you could use your actual charm to get a girl to kiss you?â Robin dips her chin, shaking her head like itâs obvious.
Steve frowns. As if he hasnât already tried that. âDo you have any chocolate coins or not?â
Robin sighs exasperatedly. âI donât think Iâve seen one of those things since we worked at Scoops. Sorry, bud. Youâre out of luck.âÂ
âFUCK!â Steveâs hand smacks the door as he heads out of the back room, making Robin scowl after him. She shakes her head as she turns back to her work.
Back out on the sales floor, the credits to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly have finished, and white noise fills the empty space. Steve turns in a circle by the checkout counter, searching for you among the aisles.
Where did you disappear to, this time? A part of him dreads the answer. He was the one who fucked everything up- he shouldnât have chickened out when he had the chance. He should have asked you to that fucking prom, but he was too scared to commit after what happened with Nancy.Â
If this is his last chance, he needs to make it count.Â
He coughs into the dead air, and says, âLooks like weâre all out of The Breakfast Club.â Thereâs a disconcerting amount of silence that leaves him cold, almost certain that youâve left already, for the last time.
Then, you appear from behind the red curtain to the adult videos section.
Oh. Â
âEverything okay?â you ask sweetly as you approach, holding a couple tapes that you must have picked up while you shopped around. âI heard some yelling back there.âÂ
âOh, yeah. Just, uh⊠shelving issues.â Steve backs his way behind the counter. He repeats, âSorry, I couldnât find the movie for you.â
âI heard. Iâm not worried about it.â You plop the tapes that you did find on the counter. âIt was nice of you to look for me. Thanks, Steve.â
âAlways.â Steve starts scanning your tapes; it looks like you managed to find the other films on your list, along with one for yourself. From the adult section.Â
You watch in amusement as you can see the cogs visibly turning in Steveâs head, while he stares at the front of the porn video you picked. Spring Break Sex Party II. Not that youâd ever seen the first one, but the cover of this one was suggestive enough- a bunch of drunk people naked on a beach, lying in a great big pile. Looks like fun, in your opinion.
You always love seeing Steve blush. The prettiest shade of pink colors his cheeks before he glances up at you. âShould I askâŠ?â
âItâs the closest thing to getting a Sex on the Beach, here.âÂ
Steve chokes, and he scrambles for a response to that. âI- I was gonna ask for an I.D.â
âYou know weâre the same age,â you deadpan.
âY-yeah. I, uh- I know⊠I know that.â He hangs his head and pinches the bridge of his nose, his eyes tightly shut.
You wonder if this is what you looked like to him, that time in the hallway when he loitered by the fountain to talk to you. âBreathe, Steve.â
A blast of laughter leaves his mouth before he can swallow it. If only you knew how hard it actually is, to act like heâs not just fucking melting right in front of you. When he hangs on every word you say, and every other thought he has is about how badly he wants to tell Robin to get lost and take you in the back room. You donât know how much heâs fixating on your curves and how theyâd feel against him, how much he wants to taste every inch of your body. Heâs practically vibrating in place with all his pent up frustration, and youâre here buying porn, like itâs the easiest thing in the world.
Steve clears his throat, shakes his head. Christ. âOkay, well. You know that this is a sale item, itâs not for rent. You can return it within 10 days as long as the packaging hasnât been opened.â
âI know.â
âOkay.â Heâs still nodding as he puts it into the bag with the rest of your rentals.Â
âAre you always this affected by people buying from the adult section?â you ask mildly.Â
âNah, usually I donât care,â he replies without thinking.Â
âGood to know that you care about my taste in pornography,â you tell him with the most shit eating grin on your face, taking the bag from him. âIâm flattered.â
He makes a clumsy noise in the back of his throat, somewhere between a laugh and a grunt. Heâs right back to working at Scoops Ahoy, fumbling every attempt at flirting, losing his cool at the sight of a pretty girl. Itâs⊠humbling.
Heâs sure Robin would say that he can always use more humility.
âIt was good to see you again, Steve.â And just like that, youâre sand slipping through the cracks in his fingers.Â
Desperately, he tries to block the flow, closing his fingers around you in an attempt to keep you in his grasp. âDo you- uh-â He lurches forward, white-knuckling the counter like his life depends on it. You turn back towards him, an eyebrow raised at his sudden outburst.Â
Youâre back in the school hallway, senior year. Crying over Logan Sawyer. Harrington is up against the wall by the drinking fountain. You want him to just say the words and ask you to prom.
âI mean⊠if you have the time, while youâre in town⊠do you want to go for a cup of coffee? With me?â
âOh, Steve.â You sigh, and itâs the most heartbreaking noise heâs ever heard in his life. Soft sand, falling through his fingers, disappearing back the way you came. He already dreads your answer before it comes. âI wish⊠you know, if I had come in here and met you about a week ago, I would have said yes in a heartbeat. But I have to catch the train back to Chicago tomorrow. My breakâs almost up.â You offer him a reassuring smile. âIâm just glad that you didnât completely miss me, at least.â
âRight, of course.â Steve smiles back at you, feeling more like an idiot the longer this drags on. Heâs like Sisyphus rolling that rock up the fucking hill. âI⊠Iâm glad I got to see you, too. Maybe next time.âÂ
Oh, it hurts. It hurts way more than you thought it would, to have to turn Steve down- after all the years pining for him through high school, after the time you turned him away when he would have kissed you. You think about kissing him, now. He would let you do it- heâs asking you out, and he looks so sad that youâre saying no.
You could. But wouldnât it make saying goodbye this time even harder than it already is?
âYeah. Maybe next time,â you tell him. You donât want this to hurt more than it does. You truly hope thereâs a next time, another year down the line when you run into him over winter break. Maybe youâll find him at the Radio Shack.Â
Steve watches you leave, once again. Fumbling his chance, again. When the door swings shut behind you, Steve bends at the waist and drops his head against the countertop.Â
Typical Harrington. Late to the party, miss the girl.
âWell. That was⊠really painful to listen to.â Robin emerges from behind one of the shelves, crossing her arms. Gently, she adds, âOn the bright side, I donât think the chocolate coin would have mattered.â
Steve picks his head up, and he thwacks his forehead back down onto the counter.
And again.
And again.
And I can see you being my addiction, you can see me as a secret mission. Hide away, and I will start behaving myselfâŠ
Sur La Table Restaurant, Chicago, April 1991
You shake your umbrella out as you step into the warm foyer of, quite possibly, the most upscale restaurant youâve ever set foot in. The carpet is deep, blood red, the walls a dark chestnut wood. The white covered tables are each spotlit within the otherwise dark dining room, and the atmosphere is flavored by soft piano and the quiet din of hushed voices.Â
You had been hesitant to accept Theoâs invitation to dinner- he seemed too stuck up for your taste, but when Shelly introduced you to him, you had to admit that the name of the restaurant piqued your interest. Sur La Table. Chicagoâs premiere Michelin Star restaurant.Â
As you hand your umbrella over to the coat check clerk, youâre greeted by a smiling hostess. âWhatâs the name for the reservation?â
âUm⊠Theo Bowman. I believe heâs already here?â
âYes, maâam. Right this way.âÂ
Theo stands as youâre shown to the table. Tall, with dark hair and a wide smile, he reminds you of someone you knew once, but you just canât seem to place it. Then, when he towers over you to shake your hand, standing far closer than necessary, youâre able to pick it out from the recesses of your mind.
Logan Sawyer. Â
âYou look nice,â Theo says pleasantly, and you chalk up your initial comparison to nerves, on your part. You donât often let friends set you up on dates, so youâre a little bit out of your element as it is.
As you go to sit down, you admit, âI was so glad when you picked this place, Iâve always wanted to eat here, since I moved to Chicago.âÂ
âItâs not the nicest place Iâve been,â Theo shrugs, taking the seat across from you.
Your smile falters, for a second. âOh, no?â The water has already been brought to the table, you guess while he was waiting for you. You take a long drink.
âNah, Iâve been to Le Bernardin, in New York. Thatâs fine dining.â Theo waves his hand at the upscale dining room. âThis is⊠okay.â
âI see.â You lift your menu, hoping that heâll do the same.
âYeah, New York is so much nicer than Chicago, in my opinion,â Theo continues, fiddling with his napkin as he talks. âThereâs a lot more to do. Have you ever been?â
You hope this is just his nerves talking. âNo.âÂ
Theo keeps talking as you stare at the menu in front of you, at a loss. Itâs an a la carte menu, clearly, but extensive and all in french. Salade de poires pochĂ©es. Coquilles Saint-Jacques GratineĂ©s. Filet au poivre vert. Youâre scrutinizing the fine print of what all the dishes include when your waiter steps up to the table. You know when it happens, because Theo finally stops blathering about New York.Â
You break your eyes away from the menu to glance at the serverâs waistline, at eye level with you. He wears a crisply pressed suit and tie, his hands clasped in front of his belt.Â
âGood evening sir, maâam,â the server says in a hushed tone, to keep the volume of the dining room down. âWelcome to Sur La Table. Iâm Steven, Iâll be serving you this evening. Before we begin, are there any questions about the menu?â
You peer up into the darkness to try to see Stevenâs face. Heâs standing just outside of the spotlight over the table, only able to be dimly lit from the indirect light reflecting from the tablecloth. Once your eyes adjust, they lock onto a pair of familiar hazel ones.
Oh my fucking god.
Itâs got to be fate, or kismet, or some force of nature that keeps bringing you together like this. Steve Harringtonâs face hasnât changed in five years. Maybe he looks just slightly older, a little more filled out in his suit and tie. His hair is a bit shorter at the back but still that same shade of golden brown, neatly groomed and tidy for the formal atmosphere- but you can see it being tousled on his off days, still flopping across his eyes in waves. And those are the same lips you dreamt about kissing, the same eyes you admired in the school hallway, the same nose that you always wanted to grind o-
âNo, I think weâre ready to order,â Theo announces, louder than necessary. You throw your gaze at him, your eyebrows raising despite your best efforts to remain calm.Â
Is he really going to order for you? Just like that?
âWell, I was going to ask-â you begin, wanting to get a little more specification on how the filet is made, when Theo cuts you off.
âItâs okay, I speak French,â he insists. Not that it makes a difference to what your question was.
You press your lips together in irritation and glance at Steve, who looks back at you stoically. You wonder if he recognizes you like you do him- itâs been long enough, and youâre sure that you look a bit different than you did the last time you saw him. And then you notice the creases around his eyes.
Heâs playing it off well enough, sure. But Steve is doing that same look that he did there in the Family Video five years ago, trying to pretend that heâs not affected by you, swallowing back his smile. He sends you a knowing look that says, What a fucking douchebag, am I right?
Suddenly, this date just got way more entertaining. You give Steve a minute roll of your eyes, only enough for him to notice. Tell me about it.
âWeâll start with the Bordeaux,â Theo is already reciting to Steve as you settle back in your seat. Steve pulls a little notepad out of his jacket pocket and begins writing. âFor an appetizer, the coquilles. Then for the main, Iâll have the canard montmorency, and sheâll have the mignons de veau.âÂ
You watch Steveâs hand pause as heâs writing, and he looks to you. He raises his eyebrow, saying everything he needs to with the one gesture. Is that what you really want? âThe veal?â
âNo,â you say, digging your thumbnail into your palm, where it rests on your lap. âActually, I wanted to ask about the filet. What brandy is the sauce made with?âÂ
Steve smiles, leaning a little bit closer to you. âWe use Courvoisier.â
âGreat. Iâll have that, please.âÂ
Steve nods encouragingly at you. As he jots down the order, he says, âWonderful. Iâll get this to the kitchen for you, but before I can bring you the wine, Iâll just need to see the ladyâs I.D.â
âAre you serious?â Theo snaps.Â
âItâs all right,â you murmur, hiding your face as you dip your head to fish your I.D. out of your clutch. âHeâs just doing his job. Right, Steven?â
Steve meets your eye as he takes the card from your hand. âYou can never be too careful.â You watch him smirk as he looks over your I.D., his eyes lingering on your name for a second before he hands it back to you. If there was any doubt in his mind that you are who he thought, itâs gone now. âInteresting. Weâre the same age.â
You laugh. Probably a little louder than is respectable, but you canât help it. Leave it to Steve Harrington to remind you of the time you bought porn from him, while youâre on a date.Â
You watch Steve write something else on his notepad, and rip the page out before folding it up. He tucks his notepad into his pocket as he says, âIâll get this started for you. I hope you enjoy your evening.â
âThank you, Steven,â you offer just as he starts to walk away.Â
Steve shoots you a sideways glance. âAlways.â
Your heartbeat pounds in your chest as you turn back to your date. Theo looks disgruntled, but he just lifts his water to his lips.
âSo,â you begin, âwhat do you do?â
âMarketing manager,â Theo says, with a click of his tongue. âFor Bowman Wine & Spirits.â
âOh,â you nod. âNo relation, I suppose?â
âMy father owns the company.â
âRight.â God, help me.Â
Across the dining room, Steve watches you over his shoulder. His jaw sets as he sees you, the girl of his literal dreams, sitting across from some idiot who doesnât even know that you donât order for your date without asking her what she wants first, you fucking weasel.Â
Thatâs all right. You seem to have the situation under control, for now. Steve watches you calmly sip your water, staring at your date but not listening to a thing heâs saying.Â
Steve sighs. Heâs never been much of a schemer, but heâll just make sure that you wonât leave with this guy if you donât want to.
His fingers brush the note in his pocket, and he pinches it just as he passes the front of house manager, Taryn. Without breaking stride, he slips the note into her hand, heading toward the back hallway and down to the wine cellar.
As Steve passes by, Taryn unfolds the note he slips her, and raises one eyebrow at the request heâs written.
I can see you in your suit and your necktie, pass me a note saying, âMeet me tonight.â Then we kissed and you know I wonât ever tellâŠ
Overall, you enjoy Sur La Table immensely. The restaurant itself, anyways. The wine is wonderful. The atmosphere is great. The food is exquisite.Â
Youâre about to jump the waiterâs bones.Â
Theo got his second wind sometime after the scallops arrived, and you think he hasnât paused for breath since. Youâve been calmly eating your food, while Theo tells you literally everything about himself. Itâs the best case scenario you can see happening on this date. You enjoy the food, mumble a non-committal acknowledgement now and then, and Theo entertains himself with his own voice the rest of the time.Â
Youâre gonna kill Shelly for setting you up with him, but thatâs tomorrowâs problem.Â
Right now, youâre focused on finishing your glass of wine while he talks about camping, of all things.Â
âSo we got up into the Rockies,â heâs telling you, gesturing with his hands like itâll make you more engaged. âWe ended up freezing our keisters off. No joke, I have frostbite scars.â
âThatâs, um⊠that sounds like fun.â
âNo, are you listening? I mean, it was terrible. We couldnât move for, like, two days. And when the snow stopped we were so tired and cold, we almost died.â Â
You knock back the rest of your wine with one gulp, and say with a sticky voice, âWow. A near death experience must have been really scary, Iâm sorry.â
Theo frowns. âNo- I mean⊠It wasnât⊠it wasnât near death-â
âYou just said-â
âIt was more like a serious inconvenience, you know. But we pulled through. I wasnât scared. A little snow isnât gonna kill me,â he laughs incredulously. âIt was just-â
Theo stops as Steve approaches the table. You catch him giving the back of Theoâs head the most murderous look imaginable before slowing to a stop and plastering an easy customer service smile in its place. âHow did you find everything this evening?â
âIt was fine.â
âThe food was wonderful,â you tell Steve reassuringly. Your date, on the other handâŠ
âYeeeah, could we get the check, please?â Theo asks, finally looking up at Steve.Â
You watch Steveâs brow twitch, such a small movement you could have imagined it. âCertainly. But first-â from behind his back, he reveals two white gift boxes and places them on the table in front of you and your date, respectively. âWe like to give each of our customers a signature chocolate truffle, as a token of our appreciation.â
Everything in you aches. âOh, thatâs nice. Thank you so much.â You look down at the box in adoration, thinking for a second that it might be the only time in your life that Steve Harrington gives you something similar to a ring box.Â
âIâll be sure to have our hostess come through with the check,â Steve adds delicately, making a gracious exit. His finger just slightly brushes your arm as he passes by- a dangerous move, but one that nearly electrifies your entire body at the single touch. You shiver as he says, âHave a lovely night.â
You watch Steve walk away from you, and your heart sinks into your stomach. You want to chase after him. The 18 year old you, who almost kissed him on prom night, is trying to claw its way out of your skin and bolt after him.Â
When Steve disappears from view, you have nowhere to look but at your date. Theo opens the white box in front of him and pops a neapolitan colored truffle into his mouth. âWell, that was underwhelming.â
You donât want to watch him chewing anymore, like a cow gnawing on grass. You sigh, running a frustrated hand across your forehead, and flip open the box in front of you. The top of it rears up like a clam shell, and you freeze, your fingertips suddenly sticking to the sweat beading on your brow.
You donât have a neapolitan truffle- you have a single golden chocolate coin. You stare at it in shock for a second before you even notice the note pasted to the lid of the box.Â
Meet me outside- the door past the bathrooms.Â
âArenât you gonna eat yours?â Theo asks suddenly, as the hostess approaches holding the check.Â
Your eyes snap up just as your heart shoots back up into your chest. âI think Iâm gonna save it for later.â You flash him a smile as you close the box swiftly and shove it into your clutch. âDo you mind if I hit the bathroom real quick?â
âNo, go ahead. Iâve got it.â Honestly, itâs the kindest thing heâs done for you all night. You might have to thank him some day.Â
Once youâre out of your seat, you chase after Steve like a shot. Around a block of tables and into a tiled corridor, you walk past the kitchen doorway just as another server comes backing out, carrying a tray of dishes.Â
Thereâs a door at the end of the hall, labeled exit. You never actually thought youâd be escaping a bad date through the back door; the notion was too clichĂ©ed, you thought that sort of thing only happened in movies. But you find yourself nearly running past the menâs and womenâs bathrooms, until your hands slam down on the bar of the back door and thrust it open into the wind.Â
The rain has picked up, more of a downpour than a light drizzle now. In your haste, youâd left your umbrella and coat with the coat check. Not that it would have been at all discrete if youâd gone to collect it before running towards the bathrooms.Â
The door clicks shut behind you, and you gaze around in the dark. The alley behind the restaurant is only partially lit by a yellow street lamp, making it even more difficult to find him than it was in the dining room. âSteve?â Â
You catch movement in the corner of your eye, and turn in the direction of the street lamp. Steve stands up from where heâd been sitting on an overturned crate- apparently the only accommodations the restaurant staff gets during a smoke break. The rain has already soaked into his hair, messing up the tidy style and turning it stringy, falling across his forehead, shining gold in the yellow light. He takes one last puff of the cigarette in his mouth before tossing it into the gutter, and he looks at you.Â
He sees you. And itâs all youâve wanted since the day he first walked into your geography class, freshman year of high school. Thereâs been some kind of a magnetic pull between you two for years. Something keeps bringing you together, itâs just never been the right time. Until now.Â
Finally, youâre running towards him, and Steveâs arms finally come around you, pulling you against his body. Your hands find the back of his neck just in time for his lips to crash against yours.Â
You had lost count of the amount of times you watched him kiss other girls in the hallway in high school- not just Nancy, but any and every girl he attached himself to (for a while, it seemed like he couldnât make up his mind who he was dating at any given moment). All you knew was that it was never you, and you wanted it to be so desperately that it consumed your mind half the time. He looked like a good kisser, and you fantasized about going up to him and testing that theory for yourself.
But you never expected that his lips would slide over yours with an urgency that you could feel through to your very core, probably even more desperate for your kiss than you are for his. Steveâs fingertips press into your body through the thin fabric of your dress, holding you firmly to him like heâs afraid you might disappear on him again if he doesnât absorb you completely. Your mouth opens with a soft gasp, and Steveâs tongue against yours tastes like tobacco.Â
It happens so fast that you canât even think- and you donât really want to. Youâre tired of thinking everything through, finding reasons upon reasons why itâs not a good time, why itâs a bad idea, why it wonât work. He moans into you, grabbing the side of your face as he stumbles with you to the wall, pressing you up against the side of the brick building.Â
You meet his moan with a whimper of your own as his hand slides down over the curve of your ass, and he hikes up the skirt of your dress to grab at your skin with abandon. Thereâs a ferocity in Steveâs kiss that you donât know what to do with, like heâs trying to stake a claim to you right there in the rain, with no one around to see it happen but the moths in the street light overhead. Not that he needs to- heâs already got you. You already chose him.Â
Steve gives you room to breathe with a soft sigh, his forehead resting against yours. âBeen wanting to do that since high school,â he admits, just loud enough for you to hear, before pressing a featherlight kiss just beside your mouth, and again to your cheek.
âY-you fffucking-?â you gasp when he latches his lips around a sweet spot on your neck and sucks. âI had such a huge crush on you, Steve.â
âI know. I- I should have- I shouldâŠâ Steve drops his head against your shoulder and groans when your nails rake against his scalp. âFuck.â Â
He grinds his hips up against yours, biting your lip as the hard length of his cock presses up against your core. âGonna fuck me in this alleyway, Harrington?âÂ
âIâm seriously considering it,â he growls into your ear. His lips find yours again with a passion, his hand holding your jaw still. A hot breath escapes him, pouring over your skin and making you shiver. Youâre lightheaded, so close to just letting him do it, too, when the back door of the restaurant swings open.Â
Steve still takes a second to pull away, a little too absorbed in kissing you to really care who sees him do it. If he had his way, heâd have everyone see that youâre his- that you belong with him, and have for a long time. He finally glances over his shoulder to see one of the cooks, Liam, walking off in the direction of the employee parking lot.
âWhere did you get the fucking doubloon?â you whisper into his ear, sounding so fucking adorable that Steve canât help the lovesick look he gives you.Â
He brushes his nose against yours. âI sent my manager on a treasure hunt.â You giggle, pressing your forehead up against his, and he canât help but chuckle along with you. âI wanted to give you one at Family Video, that time.â
âI know,â you say, and he pulls back to look at your face. âI heard you yelling at your coworker in the back room.âÂ
Steve snickers and turns red with embarrassment, hiding his face in the crook of your neck. You run your fingers through his rain-soaked hair, a content smile on your face as you feel him grin against your skin and shake with laughter. âTake me home, Steve.â
You donât have to ask him twice.
What would you do, baby, if you only knew? That I can see you throw your jacket on the floor, I can see you make me want you even moreâŠ
The drive to Steveâs apartment downtown is made with light conversation and the heavy, heavy weight of his hand on your thigh, creeping up further with each mile. But aside from the implication of sex hanging in the air, itâs as easy as breathing, chatting about the night with him. Shitting on Theo.
âDid you notice the way he said coquilles,â Steve murmurs to you at a red light. âI thought he was gagging on something. He was just trying to impress you, you know.â
You grunt. Couldâve tried a little harder. âHe didnât even like them. He said he didnât like shellfish,â you laugh in return as you lace your fingers through Steveâs. âWhy the fuck would you order scallops, then?â
âThe price.â
âThe price.â Â
Itâs sweet, talking to him all the way to his apartment building, just catching up like old friends. He tells you that heâs going to culinary school now, and heâs been working at the restaurant for a little over a year, just to pay the bills.
âCulinary school? Really?â you say, with a note of awe in your voice.Â
âTurns out Iâm really fucking good at cooking,â Steve chuckles. âWhoâd have thought? Maybe someday Iâll stop waiting tables and work back there in the kitchen.â
âI can see it,â you tell him softly. âI can see you being the worldâs best chef. Three stars and everything.â
He scoffs, but a pink blush creeps up the back of his neck. âYou have too much faith in me.âÂ
âThose are fighting words, Harrington.â You wag your finger at him. âThrowing down the gauntlet?â
âYou just want me to cook you something,â Steve tuts.
âAbsolutely, I do.â You consider him for a moment, in the passing light of a streetlamp. âAm I that transparent?â
Steve tilts his head to eye you meaningfully, and he smirks. âAlways have been, honey.â His thumb rubs a little circle on your thigh that has you squirming in your seat.
The first thing you see of Steveâs apartment is the kitchen, and beyond that the dormant living room, but you donât get that far before youâre sidetracked. Steve throws his keys onto a drop station by the door, and pins you up against the refrigerator before you can even think to ask where to put your shoes.
Your clothes are still damp, your hair still pasted to your clammy skin. Steveâs lips are attacking yours and his hands are grabbing at everything he can touch, but itâs still not enough. Heâs not able to feel all of you at once, and itâs driving him insane with every passing moment.
Steve roughly yanks his suit jacket off, throwing it onto the tile floor beside the kitchen island. âLay down.âÂ
âWhat?â you whisper to him as he kisses your neck, guiding you away from the side of the fridge. âHere?âÂ
âRight here,â Steve states, not joking in the slightest. You wobble on your feet as you kick off your heels, but his hands on your hips keep you steady. âBeen waiting too long for this- canât wait anymore.â
âI- wwhuh-?â you gasp as Steve kneels in front of you, and your knees buckle involuntarily as he lays you down across his discarded jacket. Your hands grab his shoulders as you tumble backward, taking him with you.Â
He face-plants into your stomach with a noisy, âOof.â Cackling, you run your fingers through his damp hair, as he laughs and shoves his blushing face further against your torso. Steve litters your stomach with kisses, giggling against you with a note of nervous energy. Heâs adorable.
You pet your fingers down the side of his face and he leans into the touch. âCanât even wait long enough to take me to the bedroom?â
âWell, I would have fucked you in the alley,â Steve points out as his fingers breach the hem of your skirt and find your panties. He tugs as he says, âBe thankful I even got you home.âÂ
Your cheeks burn hot. You fidget, trying to press your thighs together to abate the throbbing ache between them. âCareful, baby. Youâre starting to sound desperate.â
Steve pauses, his hazel eyes lighting up when they lock on yours. âCall me that again,â he requests, pressing a kiss to your ankle as he pulls your panties off your feet. He tosses them over his shoulder, but you donât see where they land as he continues peppering kisses down your calf.
You hold his gaze. âBaby?â His eyes flutter, his lips parting as they drag up toward your knee. âYou like when I call you that?â
âI like when you call me anything,â Steve admits. âBut as long as you call me that, it means Iâm yours.â
Your breath stutters in your chest. Steve Harrington is yours. It doesnât matter if itâs just for tonight- what matters is that you have him now, and he wants you just as badly.
âYouâre mine, arenât you?â he murmurs quietly against your skin, his voice crackling with brimming need. Heâs flushed, his cheeks pink and his hair drying in tousled waves over his forehead the longer he drags this out.Â
Nodding your head, you reach down to lace your fingers through his, where theyâre bunching your skirt up around your hips. âYes, Steve.â Always have been. Â
He turns his head and sucks a spot on your calf, just below your knee, resting your ankle over his shoulder. Still, despite your desperation, you nervously keep your thighs pinched together.
Steve tuts, âCâmon, baby, youâve gotta spread your legs for me. You wanna let me see that pretty pussy, right?âÂ
Still clammy and cold with rain, the air on your exposed skin makes you shiver almost as much as his sweeping hands do when they gently part your thighs. You let go, let him take control as you still and keep your eyes focused on his face, because looking anywhere else would remind you that this is real, and not a dream.
Steve sighs, âThere she is. Yâgonna let me taste you, sweetheart?â He bats his pretty eyes at you in a way that makes your heart stop dead in your chest. He canât keep his mouth off of you, even for a moment, his lips and slight stubble dragging across your skin as he says, âBeen wanting to forever, you wonât even believe-â
âPlease, Steve,â you start to beg before he even finishes his sentence. âPlease, my god, I- I just- I just want you so much-â
âSh-sh-sh-shh.â His tongue licks wet and hot against your inner thigh before he whispers, âIâve got you, baby. Mânot going anywhere, Iâm staying right here âtil you cum.â
Youâre instantly hot all over, your blood fucking boiling beneath your skin and your wet dinner dress. Steveâs fingers dig into the meat of your thighs as he yanks you toward his face, the fabric of his jacket beneath you audibly zipping along the kitchen floor.Â
Steve dips his head, and his mouth closes over your cunt right at the same moment that yours falls open with a moan that wonât come out, because youâve suddenly forgotten how to breathe. The noise stalls right at the beginning- your lungs stop working and you canât seem to get them to start again, because Steveâs tongue is everywhere, dripping wet and gentle on skin thatâs way too sensitive to handle it right now. Your hips try to jerk away from him in resistance, but he slams his hand down on them, holding you hard and still against the tile floor, his shoulders pushed up against the backs of your thighs to keep them open.Â
Steve takes a break just long enough to grin evilly up at you, because heâs been waiting for five years to tell you to, âBreathe, sweetheart.â
âFffffuck,â you manage to spit out finally, your voice cracking on the word like it didnât even really want to put in the work to make it happen. Your breath comes back into your lungs all at once, rapid firing with a dozen moans for punctuation. Steveâs lips quirk against you, and he rumbles a noise of satisfaction against your pussy that makes you jolt in his hold again. âSteveâŠâ
He pulls off of you with a slow, slow stroke of his tongue over your clit, making you whimper high and tight in your throat. âThatâs it, baby,â Steve whispers, his breath fanning across your slick cunt, his left hand leaving your hip so that he can drag his knuckles teasingly through your swollen folds. âFeels good, doesnât it? Feels so right.â
Two long fingers sink into you with ease, stirring the need in you to have him just simply destroy you. You moan loud, your hand shooting out and wrapping around the leg of a bar stool for the kitchen island beside you.Â
âPoor thingâs just so sensitive, huh?â Your head arches backwards against the floor, your pussy clenching tight around his fingers as he curves them with practiced accuracy. Steveâs voice is a deep murmur, distant thunder rolling over your nerves, âRelax for me, honey. Youâve waited long enough, just let it happen. Let me give you what you want.â
His lips shine when you look down at him, your hand reaching to run through his hair. Stifling a whine that threatens to come out when he kisses your clit and bends his fingers within you, you stutter out, âJ-just want⊠I- ha-ah! Just want you.â Â
Steve purrs. âI know.â The crisp white fabric of his shirt scrapes against your thighs, almost rough in comparison to his tongue flat on your pussy. You can hear the wet, salacious sound of his fingers pumping into you, pulling you toward the edge of oblivion. He hisses through his teeth, shaking his head slightly. âGod, Iâm so fuckinâ lucky.â
âY-you-?â you manage a laugh, scraping your nails along his scalp lightly. âYouâre lucky? You have n-no⊠fffucking idea-â You cut off with a sob when Steve wraps his lips around your clit, sucking long and hard enough that your leg twitches, your heel dragging up the back of his pristine white blouse. Your breathing picks up just as all your muscles lock down tight. âJesus Christ-â Â
âThere you go,â Steve praises as your orgasm shakes your body, your hand gripping his hair so hard that he groans softly into your damp skin. He doesnât stop moving his fingers, lewd wet noises picking up and echoing through the quiet kitchen. âThatâs a good girl. Mmm , felt so nice to let go, didnât it?â
You donât know if he really wants you to answer that- youâre still twitching, coming down from your high as he pulls his fingers from your spasming cunt and sucks them into his mouth. The pause gives you a gentle reprieve, sinking back onto his suit jacket beneath you. Then, his mouth finds your pussy again, his tongue delving deep into your entrance and laving up to your sensitive clit.Â
You gasp, throwing your hands down into his hair. âSteve-?!â
He moans in response. âJust needed to taste you some more, honey. Taste so fuckinâ sweet, I canât get enough.â Steve relents, crawling up your body to hover his face over yours. âStill wanna see the bedroom?â
You nod excitedly, your hands finding his smiling face and stroking the hair away from his eyes. With a gentle kiss of his wet lips to yours, Steve gathers your still-wrecked body into his arms and carries you into his bedroom.Â
Heâs struck by how blissful you are as he sets you down on his bed, so soft and inviting. He encourages your arms up, his hands finding the zipper of your wet dress and finally, finally, pulling it over your head so that he can see you. All your curves and edges on display for him, after all this time imagining what he couldnât see with the naked eye.Â
âYouâre so beautiful.â Steve repeats what he told you all those years ago at prom- he meant it then, and he means it now. Maybe even more this time, now that heâs not a stupid teenager, now that he finally has his head on his shoulders.Â
You shiver against him when he unclips your bra- black lace that matches the underwear sitting in his entryway. A possessive part of him rears up, knowing that youâd worn them to a date with some asshole who couldnât treat you right, even for one hour of the guyâs miserable life. Steve dips his head and kisses your breast, so much softer now than he was before, feeling your heartbeat against his lips.
âHey.â You gently tug him by his tie, loosening it and his collar. You look into his eyes, and his heart melts. âWhereâd you go just now, sailor?â
Steve blushes, his eyes flicking down as you remove his tie and start unbuttoning his blouse. âJust thinking...â he trails off, eyeing you thoughtfully. âJust thinking I could have missed you again if I wasnât careful.â
âMmm,â you hum, your hands smoothing up his chest and over his shoulders to get his shirt off of him. It drops to the floor with a whisper. âI donât think so. I think this was meant to happen, eventually.â
âYeah?â
âYeah.â You scrunch your nose cutely, in a way that makes Steveâs pants tighten even more uncomfortably across his hips. âWeâve run into each other too many fuckinâ times, baby. Karmaâs on our side.â
He laughs. âKarma.â He shakes his head as he undoes his belt.
You quirk your brow at him as your hands fiddle with the fly of his suit pants. âDonât believe me?âÂ
Steve grunts, shifting to lean over you. âIâll believe anything you say when youâre taking my pants off, honey. Iâm easy that way.â
Your nails rake through the hair on his chest- you canât keep your hands off of him now that theyâve got him. You trace over two blotchy scars, one on either side of his torso that mirror each other. âWhat happened here?â
He blows a puff of air out of his mouth, rounding his cheeks as he shrugs. âSome⊠animals decided I looked really tasty, at one point. I know, they arenât very pretty.â
Steveâs brushing over it like itâs nothing. You search his face, and you decide to do the same. âActually, I think itâs kind of hot.â You drag your hand up to lay flat over his chest. You whisper conspiratorially, âPlus, I think you look really tasty, too.â
Steve quirks an eyebrow. âYâgonna bite me about it?â
âProbably.â You wink. âMost likely.â
Your gaze falls indiscreetly to his cock, hard and flushed, glistening with precum and curving up toward his stomach. Girls talk, especially when theyâre all trying to one-up each other; you knew that he was big. Youâd heard the rumors. Youâd seen him wearing those tight fucking jeans all the time, and you didnât have to have much of an imagination to figure it out.
Still. Itâs⊠a little overwhelming. You reach out a tentative hand, lightly wrapping your fingers around his base. They barely meet. Jesus Christ.
He groans, and kisses you until you canât speak, resting his weight on top of you until you sink gleefully into the mattress. Thereâs a smile on your lips that transfers onto his, happiness and ease still flowing between you even as he grinds his hips up against yours.Â
âReady?â Steve murmurs softly into your mouth, stealing your breath when you feel his cock slide through your folds, hot and fat. Â
âDunno,â you tell him teasingly, but thereâs an edge of reason to your words. Your hips squirm and you feel him even worse, slippery with your arousal. You whine. âI think you might kill me with that thing, Harrington.â
âIâll go slow,â he whispers, hoarse in the back of his throat, his voice already shaking. âIâll make sure you feel every bit of it, yeah?â
âYeah,â you agree as you reach to line him up properly. âIâm all yours.â
Steve gives a relieved sigh as he slides into you, his head falling heavily to your shoulder. His cock aches, his torso shaking as he tries to steady himself. âOh my god.â
âBaby,â you coo, choking on a moan when he bottoms out. Heâs so thick- your nails dig into his shoulder blades as you try to remember how to breathe. Itâs certainly a big stretch to try to fit him, but you canât help wanting more just as soon as he comes to a stop. You can feel him trying to hold steady, holding himself back as though itâs the hardest thing in the world for him to do.Â
Because it is. You canât see it, the way that his brow is furrowed in concentration, his eyes screwed shut. He didnât know it would be like this- that heâd be in danger of blowing it just as soon as he started.Â
Your heel digs into his ass, and he doesnât know if you do it purposefully, but he almost whimpers. Â
You take a shuddering breath. âPlease- please move, Steve, I canât take it.â
Oh, you canât take it? âYou know what,â Steve says with a hint of strain in his voice, picking his head up to nuzzle his nose with yours, âI think you like me.â
You snort, and kiss him lightly. âWhat gave you that impression?â
âYâso fucking cute.â Steve hums and sloooowly pulls his hips back, dragging his cock through your walls so deliciously that your toes curl. âCould be all those times you stared at me in class-â He watches your face as he pushes forward, until his hips are flush with yours and your head arches backwards against his sheets. âCould be when you nearly let me kiss you at prom-â Out. In. Steve runs his tongue up the length of your throat, and bites at your earlobe. He whispers, âCould be that you came on my tongue ten minutes ago.â
He picks up his pace, just a bit. Just enough to have the bed creaking under you with the rhythm, to have you moaning in tandem with him- needy and high pitched, leaping from your throat into the hot, sex-charged air. Â
Steveâs lips latch onto your neck, and he sucks hard. He eases up after just a couple seconds, dragging his tongue over the sensitive spot, but you know what heâs just done- heâs marked you, right where you wonât be able to hide it in the morning.Â
You want him to do it all over your body.
Your jaw goes slack and youâre losing all integrity. Heâs even better than you imagined- sleepless nights wanting, hoping endlessly that youâd find yourself here, under him, couldnât have prepared you for how perfect it feels. His hand finds yours and laces your fingers together, pinning it to the mattress beside your head, squeezing with every slow and purposeful thrust of his hips.Â
Steveâs cock finds your g-spot like itâs nothing, like heâs known your body for ages. He barely even has to try before youâre whimpering, raking your nails up his back and leaving long red trails behind.Â
Your teeth latch onto his shoulder and you bite, probably harder than you should, but you just canât refuse the urge to mark him the way that heâs left his mark on you. He moans, a deep and boyish sound in your ear, as you drag your tongue along his shoulder, soothing the bite, tasting his sweat. The salt and the sweetness of his skin, mixed with the heady smell of sex in the room, have you losing yourself in him.
âBiter.â You hear him chuckle dangerously, rumbling along your skin while his nose skirts your jawline.Â
âYouâre so good, Stevie-â you whine, hot pleasure rearing up in you like a tidal wave. âOh, you feel so fucking good, I love- love how you feel inside me.â
Steve groans loudly into your shoulder, his teeth grazing your collarbone. You think he has a mind to bite you back- maybe heâd do it harder. You can see Steve drawing blood, when the mood suits him.Â
But his hand squeezes yours, his other sweeping broadly up your thigh and hitching your leg up further over his hip. âYeah?â His voice is rough, bordering on a growl, âWhatâdâya say we stay like this forever, huh? Just like this?âÂ
His pelvis grinds up against yours, his pubes crushing against your clit making you gasp. Everythingâs wet- your skin, his skin, the sheets. Sweaty bodies sticking and sliding against each other, your hips meeting his in the middle.
âLike this?â you gasp, your head reeling. His forehead presses against yours, and itâs just about the only thing bringing you back into focus. Steve doesnât falter, keeping the same pace and rhythm while he watches you try to form a coherent reply. âMm- I- I, hhuh-â
âCâmon, babygirl,â he breathes against your damp skin, âyou can do better than that. You love my cock so much, you wanna keep it warm all the time? Wanna stay in bed with me forever, is that it?â
You nod fervently, your hands grabbing at his neck, his hair, his shoulder- anywhere you can touch. âYes, yes. God, Steve, I- youâre gonna make me cum, shit-â Â
âI know it,â Steve murmurs, tugging your lip between his teeth and making you whine again. Your cunt pulses around him, and he hisses, his hand slipping on your thigh. âLove seeinâ you all drunk on my cock- shit, youâre so gorgeous like this.â He pauses to kiss you, making you lightheaded, making you tug at his hair. âYâlook so pretty under me, baby. Pussy feels so good, I wanna stay here, too. I can see us doinâ this for the rest of our lives, huh? Howâs that sound?âÂ
How does it sound? You and Steve Harrington, together forever? Intertwined, knotted up with no way to lose each other, no disappearing and then reappearing years down the line?
âSâthat a challenge?â you whimper shakily at him. âThrowing down the gauntlet?âÂ
âI donât think I could let you go, now,â Steve tells you firmly, his hand leaving your thigh so that he can grab your jaw possessively, his tongue darting out to trace gently across your bottom lip. âIâm never gonna let you go, baby.â
You wrap your legs around his waist. âI donât want you to.â
âI hope so,â he whispers, his breath mingling with yours.
Steve kisses you long and slow when you cum. You swallow his moans when he does.
What would you? Baby, if you only knew that I can see you, oh, I can see youâŠ
You almost think itâs a dream. When you rouse in the morning, you feel like you imagined it. But youâre surrounded by the scent of Steve, of musky cologne and sweat and sex, and maybe just a little bit of hair gel stuck to his pillows.Â
You flop over and stare at the ceiling. Youâre alone in a king size bed, fitted with gray sheets and a few too many pillows. The other side of the bed is still warm, but your paramour is nowhere to be found. His bedroom is fairly stark, with a few little things arranged on the dresser top and clothes thrown around the floor. It doesnât feel like a room he spends much time in, aside from sleeping and dressing in the morning.
You immediately think about what this all means for you. Whether he really meant what he said in the heat of the moment, if he really wants this to be a long-term thing or if it was just pillow talk. It doesnât take you long to determine which one you want it to be.
Thereâs commotion on the other side of the closed door. You lean over the side of the bed, searching for something to put on before you just waltz out there naked. Ultimately, you pull on his blouse from last night.
You emerge from the bedroom squinting against the light in the room. The blinds in the living room are open, casting bright sunlight across the room and into the kitchen. You find Steve in front of the stove.
âHey, there she is!â he announces happily. âJust in time for breakfast.â
Steve looks so comfortable in the kitchen, moving around quickly and efficiently, whereas you tend to blunder about. When you wander over to the island, you notice heâs already picked up his suit jacket, and laid it across the bar stool next to the one you choose.Â
Your underwear is nowhere to be seen.
You grin at his back, plopping down onto the bar stool. The metal is cold against your bare ass, nearly making you squeal and jump back up. âIs it a Sex on the Beach?â
He laughs gleefully. âNah, if only. How was that, by the way?âÂ
âThe ice cream, or the porn?â
He turns to grin at you over his shoulder. âBoth.â
Heâs wearing glasses. Round wire frames that complement his face perfectly, making him look distinguished in his gray sweats and black t-shirt. Just like that, youâre spiraling. Suddenly, youâre picturing yourself being here, with him cooking breakfast in his glasses and PJâs every morning, on and on into the future. Doing domestic shit, grocery shopping, dancing around in the kitchen at 3 am, kissing in the rain- well, youâve already done that one. Â
But you can see it. That future, with him by your side, itâs right there. You just donât know if itâs the one that he wants. You donât really know how deep this runs for him.
Funny what just an accessory can do to your train of thought.
âUm.â You swallow. What was the question? âThe ice cream was great. Still the best sundae Iâve ever had, by the way. The porn was bullshit, I didnât get through twenty minutes. I just wanted to make you blush.â
âBrat.â He spins around, and plates an omelet right in front of you. You watch his face, tracing the easy smile he wears. âI hope you like it- but if you donât, you better not say anything. I donât think I could handle the pain of your rejection.â He looks up at you, hazel eyes shining gold in the sunlight. âYouâre staring.â
âI-â you blink at him. You donât fucking say. You open your mouth to ask- you want to ask what this is, what he feels, did he mean it. Do you want to do this again? Is this serious for you? Because it is for me, if you want it. You just donât get that far.
âYouâve been staring since we were fourteen,â he chuckles, sliding you a fork.Â
That startles you. âWell,â you click your tongue. âI didnât realize you were looking so closely.â
âOh,â Steve shrugs, turning to place the pan in the sink. âJust since freshman year. When you read Julietâs monologue in English class. Remember?â
You tilt your head. Vaguely. It was just a class project, where each person had to choose a Shakespearean monologue to recite in front of the class. You thought he only even became aware of you senior year.
Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name which is no part of thee, Take all myself.Â
âAre you telling me,â you say, palms flat on the counter as you peer at him incredulously, âyouâve liked me just as long as Iâve liked you?â
âTold you Iâd get there, eventually.â
Your brain refuses to compute. You stare at his back, his tousled hair, and want to yank him toward you and squeeze him like one of those fucking squeaky toys that you get at the pet store. The ones the eyes pop out of.
Steve turns to you with a smirk, leaning across the counter to mirror you. He reaches forward to trace the mark he made on your neck, still tender, while mocking your pout back at you. His eyes crease at the corners, like they always do when heâs trying to be coy.
âEat your breakfast, baby. Weâve got a lot to talk about.â
(I see you, I see you, baby.)
