so the first thing to know is that apoc au falls in line with my longstanding polyam bi salqueen hc. they are both in multiple healthy consenting relationships with different dynamics. fran/sal/queen is a thing, mchicks is a thing, etc. theyre all queer and all respectful mature adults, they have a lot of love to give, and theyre having a lot of fun!

-What happened to Sally?

in apoc au tho, sally dies very sadly early on. she survives the blast initially and is coherent enough to say her goodbyes, but her injuries take her within a week or so. 996's have an infamous catostrophic engine failure point and are notorious for blowing up, so her odds werent great. with the entire planet in chaos, its hard to help survivors at all...

-Are there any definite relationships?

the main relationship of apoc au winds up being... lightning/chick. yep. chick is visiting his old 'pal' in radiator springs (lightning and cruz stopped home for some rare downtime during the busy season) when it all goes to hell. everyone dies, and 1 billion metric tons of trauma later, chick and lightning accidentally wind up codependent. (cant blame them!).

so far, lightning has 2 other relationships in apoc au. jackson survives, and decides to not sit on his longtime crush on lightning anymore on account of the world being massively fucked up, and confesses his feelings. i also have an oc in development, a medic named Dr. Amiyah Sparkwright who shares feelings with lightning also. both of them dont appear til later in the story, after the characters start to rebuild. all of them are too traumatized to be super serious though... the angst ;,,)

-What happened to the rest of the townfolk?

the rest of the townfolk died pretty much instantly, save for mack, who also died slower. i guess its sort of like a thanos snap? except the bodies dont vanish. chick, lightning, and cruz bury them when they realize no one is coming to save anyone.

-Do any of the main survivors die later?

and do any of the main cast die... spoilers!! but yes, chick dies about 15-20 years in. initially, in the early-early drafts back in 2019ish, chick died only a few years in. changing this and adding him to the main party has shifted everything- his chaos-loving spirit, tricky resourcefulness, and boundless rude comedy are exactly what the story needed. combine that with the pacifist/optimist cruz and the endlessly loving determination and charm of lightning, and its an incredibly fun dynamic. that, and they're all hardened survivors now- big changes happen to these characters, and part of the fun is exploring that (or, how theyve stayed the same despite the changed world!).

to be fair to chick, hes like, 70 by the time he dies, so he does pretty well. Non has a list of ideas on how chick goes, and i love them all too much to decide, tho i am a big fan of him being murdered on a failed supply run. a few other minor characters will also die, oc's and canon. and i havent decided what happens to cruz and lightning yet, i'm not sure if it matters, they may live to old age!

Hii!! I hope you’re having a great day/night! I’m rereading bbac for the third time (I think this is one of the few select fanfics I have to read every few years just to relive the first time I read it) and I never tire from how in awe I always get with each chapter. When I found out you had turned it into an original story, I was (and still am) ecstatic!! I’ll have to find a way to get my hands on it ><! I hope it’s okay to still bring up bbac after— wow, nearly a decade since it first got published on ao3 O.O

Maybe you had answered a similar or the exact question before, and if you had, please do direct me there! If not, I just wanted to ask: How did you plan this entire story? The plot is so rich in mythology and horror elements, especially from various cultures and countries, and you weaved them so beautifully into a harmonious picture with your own take on magic and witchcraft. I had commented years ago in the middle of my first read that bbac is the reason why I’ve come to enjoy magic/fantasy as a genre in fiction, and I’ve been dipping my toes into them since as a media consumer and artist. However, there’s only so much input and output that could happen and I do get overwhelmed by the info I find. So it boggles my mind whenever I wonder how you wrote bbac because it flows so naturally, especially for readers who are not familiar with such elements (it’s me, I’m readers). It’s literally the perfect example of show, don’t tell without excessive exposition.

Have you always been interested in and inspired by myths, horror and etc? How much research did you do before/as you were writing? If you’re comfortable with sharing your methods, that is.

so waaaaay back when, i started bbac with 3.5 things in mind (spoilers for bbac endgame!): necromancer suga, stop the apocalypse plot, kiyoko being the one responsible for the final god, and ensemble cast. actually, in addition to the ensemble cast (believe it or not i hadn't written multiple subplots like that before!) i did specifically want to NOT spoonfeed information, so i very specifically withheld myself from doing so. and it means i succeeded in the show, don't tell, so yaaaaay

but seriously, as to how a huge project like bbac (and originale, now!) came to be... man. it was a lot of vibes, a lot of "what if XYZ, that'd be funny/cool", and some very cool friends i made along the way. also, alcohol. i don't recommend that part as much as i recommend the others.

it was very much a case of "this is cool!!" and throwing it all into a big mixing pot and shaking it. which is technically what all writing is, i just did it with highly concentrated tropes like "goopy shadow demon" and "angels are monsters, too".

i've always been a fan of fantasy setting with a big, worldwide-feeling scale, plus i was living in america (in several different places) writing fanfic about a japanese creation, so there was already incentive to do grabby hands at all kinds of mythologies. also, like many writers, i'm prone to falling down the research rabbit hole. whoops.

i HAVE always been interested in aesthetic horror, though it was only in the last decade or so that i have been able to actually watch horror movies. (i've been able to read horror forever!) i also enjoyed using lesser-known mythologies and delving further into more widely known ones (I WAS BASICALLY FLUENT IN R'LYEHIAN FOR WAY TOO LONG), but it was very much a case of research as i write. so very, very little was planned out from the start, because i'm not a planner.

bonus fun fact: i also originally thought bbac would be like 100k. ha. ha ha.

bbac was also a case in "what i DON'T want to write" - as an example, i very specifically wanted to NOT write werewolves and vampires! they're ubiquitous in fantasy already and i already wrote my werewolf fic so while i did mentally plot out where/how they'd fit into that world, i wanted to explore other things instead. and i did! for a lot of words!

in reworking the fic into an original series (please partake! ∠( ᐛ 」∠)＿) i did also rework some of the mythologies i dug into. some were minor fixes, some were more major. (for example, there is no longer a skinwalker in originale, as it's not my place to use those and i don't know as much about navajo/dine as i ought to. but now there's 100% more old norse and 50% more lakota!) but the broad strokes of the plot are still the same. there is still a dragon migration. there is still the dreamlands. (HALF OF LOVECRAFT'S STUFF IS PUBLIC DOMAIN COME AT ME) the gods are new but there's still 3 of them. (or are there) there is, somehow, even more french.

in an ideal world, i also rework the notes i've taken into a creature compendium type thing and also publish it, because sometimes writers DO like telling in addition to the showing, haha.

Will they be unhinge? or idk, a normal breakup for what is normal for mafias? Can you give a little description of how unhinge each one of the boys (maybe in the near future for the mc?) Like who gets jealous easily? How do they get jealous? Who's going to be the shoot to kill just cause he got possessive? Or what will happen if (I'm talking when they're all obsessed with her) she just suddenly ghosted them (for fun I guess)?

As for how long it'll be... I'll try to be as vague as I can but it won't be crazy long, but it also won't be all at once, you know. A medium burn, if you will.

The boys are yandere for each other lol. Jungkook's ideal life is MC joining the fray like yesterday. He would never leave them, but he was indeed dead serious when he said he would take his life if they killed MC. It's all or nothing for him. There is no breaking up for them, there's just time and space away and that's it. Their relationship is super out of whack and only open because they were basically broken up without breaking up. Physical connection with other people doesn't matter because they have their emotional connection no matter what. Naturally, MC is going to change all of that big time lol.

I'd say she would be kinda yandere for them yeah, similar to bunny she never experienced love like this, and she already finds Jungkook's attention addictive so they'll have the same effect on her. She's also never been protected before so she will want to return the favor. MC is sensitive but first and foremost she is extremely deadly so lol~

Also I would say nah MC doesn't have the stomach for harming Jungkook, but she likes to think she does. She likes to think she's just as cold and heartless as she was raised, but I think deep down she didn't run at first partially because she knew it would hurt her and Jungkook too much. I cannot stress enough how much he was all she had and I am just waiting for an excuse to write their flashbacks hehe

Also maybe a spoiler but its fun so I'll answer a lil under the cut: heed any and all yandere warnings, they're toxic and crazy and mafia au dudes so they kill. Also the descriptions only apply when they are fully in love with the MC, which not all of them are yet so keep that in mind.

MR fellas yandere types:

Jungkook:

-borderline delusional evidently lmao

-he loves with his whole being and is unapologetic about it

-obviously handles being ghosted extremely poorly, he lasted an afternoon basically before he went insane

-surprisingly the least jealous of them, but mostly because he's enough of a brat to divert attention back to him lmao

-will only kill if asked to or if there is a present threat

-stoic and uncaring on the outside but foaming at the mouth the moment she's out of sight basically

Anyone that's known me for a long time knows that no matter what, I will find a way to make a Pride & Prejudice AU with OCs 😤

This particular iteration is my favorite tho! This time around we have crafted a P&P AU focused on Faith and Rhea ( @captastra ) meeting and falling in love with Max and Felix 👀

I have admittedly been very slow getting around to it, but it has genuinely been one of the biggest things I have been wanting to work on for months. But, you know how it is, not having the time to dedicate to this project was a big factor and it's probably gonna be even longer until I get to it now that I'm moving out and have to get a new desk and set up my workspace.

And, truthfully, I am very very excited about this one and I really want to take my time and put the love into it!! It is 100% absolutely one of the highest things on my to-do list and it's never stopped rotating in my brain.

ANYWAY ON TO WHAT I HAVE PLANNED

Sooooo, I have 4 small illustrations so far that I really want to make :]

Nothing super massive and extravagant right now, just a set I haven't been able to get out of my mind regarding different interactions!

The more fleshed out concepts I have are for a Faith and Rhea interaction and a Max and Felix interaction. Both separate but meant to mirror each other!

For Faith and Rhea I was thinking about them late at night, soft lighting, maybe they're laying in bed together, but they're very excitedly talking about the lads they met and how dashing they are and what the interactions they had with them were like and whether or not some feelings had been sparked, etc etc.

For Max and Felix, the conversation is the same but about the gals! I have a vague idea of the setting I want to draw them in, but I haven't fully decided yet. I really like the idea of Felix head over heels for Rhea and asking Max for advice on how to approach her again. I feel like he just really doesn't want to mess this one up 🥺 I also like the idea of Felix pestering Max on his thoughts about Faith, and Max being very avoidant, not wanting to answer, but also not being able to hide that people noticed he couldn't take his eyes off of her 😌💅

The other two drawings I want to make are obviously some lil Faith/Max and Rhea/Felix illustrations 💖💕 but I haven't fully decided what I want to go with for those! I have a few ideas, but those I really want to discuss and plan out privately 🤭 definitely super excited to work on those!!

And let's be honest.. I kind of want to make even more with P&P AU, but small steps lmao don't want to overwhelm myself. It's always gonna be there to come back to! No promises that I'll dabble in trying to write out some things more eloquently, it's just so much easier for me to express my ideas through visuals! Plus I just really love drawing romance things 😩

There's so many interactions we can explore! But even more exciting! I want to explore different outfits for them because I mean c'mon they are all going to look SO darling!

I think I said so in private but I'm still bouncing back and forth between wanting a strict period setting or if I wanna be loosey goosey and incorporate some space themes to the designs and environments. Both just sound so very fun to me to get to work with.

and my very first piece of silent hill fanart (march 10, 2018) really reflects that, LOL

incredibly, and almost a full year later to the date, i drew and posted this on march 4, 2019. now THIS is actually the closest canon-Harry i've ever drawn. (this was also around the start of the SH RP i was doing with a friend, which then spawned GOOMT lol.)

april 25, 2019. first color piece for any SH art and my first "real" time drawing james. this is also the last time you'll see him with his bangs on the "correct" side LOL.

april 30, 2019. the SH RP is still going on, and this is where i'm starting to get a better handle on what i want them to look like. Harry also gets a maroon sweater. he's also notably thinner here, and still has a lot of Josh Charles vibes.

sept 22, 2019. james sunderland thinnest browns edition. the bangs will be drawn on the right from now on.

(the only reason why they're on the right is because i forgot which way his hair actually parted. oops.)

i'd been very unused to drawing fat people until Harry, and had been struggling up until here with actually drawing a more accurate representation of his body type to the one i saw in my head!

the reason why i made him fat is because it made sense to me that he was. people change, and being a single father changed him a lot. (and also i recognize that the only reason why the Dead Harry model was lean in sh3 was because it was a recycled Dead James model and they were Legit not going to actually put too much thought into it otherwise lmfao)

i actually just forgor what he looked like and didn't ref my art to what he looked like in-game. simple as that! LOL

in the initial RP, James was played by my friend, while i grabbed the reins to Harry, so i naturally preserved some of the base features of what my friend decided for James (lean, Super Sad And Wet, pale af). i slapped on the caterpillar brows (this is also a thing i'm historically known for in character design), did some tweaks, and also let James evolve himself as i became a better artist.

longer coat because Aesthetics that's why LOL. i don't like the short jacket he wears in game-canon and i needed GOOMT james to put his hands in his pockets like how i drew him above. Reasons.

he's also so pale because [REDACTED] and much thinner than his in-game model because he did Not take care of himself very well in those three years during Mary's illness. (it's also in his genetics: Frank is lean, too (however much taller than James, rip dude 😔))

FOR HARRY

switch from blue to maroon: i like maroon/burgundy. (i realize later that the color he wears is more on the side of burgundy but y'all i hate the color spectrum and it can definitely also be called maroon so it's maroon LOL) i also just thought it looked better on him. the only other reason i can think of as to why i changed it was because.. people change. this is a new era in his life. i kept it a (more modest, sh1 harry you whore <3) v-neck sweater as a nod to his game-canon but just.. changed it to maroon. probably just a designator.

he's fat because of reasons detailed above (fatherhood, life on the road, settling down, etc). and also because he's hot and he deserves that. self-indulgent.

hair, nose, elf ears: self-indulgent.

for Harry especially there are a lot of aspects about him that "almost were" but got cut out of his development for one reason or another an really he's better off that way. i really really don't like to force development or force a "look".

the main reason i guess above all else is that Harry looks so different than his game canon is because he's not that Harry anymore. and in sh3, you never see the guy's face: him dead. i can't even recall if i'd seen the dead Harry model in full before trying to hammer out what GOOMT Harry looked like. young GOOMT Harry would look a lot closer to what his game model looks like, tho. i can tell you that much :3 (one day i'll draw a Younger Harry but don't expect it anytime soon unless the inspiration REALLY strikes lmfao)

a lot of their changes are just not that deep, honestly. my vision for them comes from forgetting which way the bangs go (looks James), developign them in my head over time, The Vibes™️, and The Indulgences™️. i'm a creature of habit for sure in the character design department LOL but my world my puddle we play in it.

ye, i have a couple where there are 'permanent' resident workers but are virtually untouchable because the owner of the brothel liked them too much to sell them out from their business but had no qualms about seeing them being...used, so to say. def will get messy if a patron (attempts to) claim them though.

What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?

I'm just gonna shorthand here and say 'anything that requires a more complex plot'. Romance is easy, action is easy, horror is easy -- as long as they're short and tight. But doing things that are going to stretch out and need a plotty spine to hook into for more than about 20k? Oof. I don't want to come up with like a murder mystery or something. Why can't all stories just be 'guy has complex feelings he doesn't want to admit about other guy even as they are boning'. That's my wheelhouse.

What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to?

Ooh I'm super bad at this kind of thing. Like, if I didn't mean to do it how will I notice it's in there. My guess is that it's probably something like -- Dean's essential uncertainty plus Sam's essential confidence? Even in fics that aren't about that (or that subvert those things specifically), I have a very solid hc/conception of each of them that I bet I literally can't write against. (But if anyone's got a diff answer let me know. Maybe I'm accidentally including like Hardees references in every fic.)

Who is your favorite character to write?

Dean. He's just so easy. His narrative voice is fun and easy to tweak into cracky or romantic or deep angst. Sam's a lot harder to make sound distinctly Sam, partly bc he doesn't have as many catchphrases or insane verbal constructions, so while it's a good challenge to try to write his voice -- Dean's more satisfying, haha.

How do you feel about fan art of your stories?

Great! It never happens, but. Great in theory! (Except when v nice people named frauke agree to do an exchange. <3) But like, no need for anyone to ever ask permission. Or even tell me, hell. You do you.

Do you spend much time researching for your stories?

mmmm yes and no. I am definitely one of those people who's googling literal map directions and 'when was the war of 1812 oh wait, right' and what professor someone's likely to take Anthro 202 from, but I find that if you don't let yourself get bogged down in those things they're actually helpful -- the restrictions of reality actually serve as a good goad to creativity as you try to work inside those boundaries. But, like, I'm not going to spend 3 hours figuring out how to make moonshine if the character's making moonshine. That's going to be, 'and then he made moonshine' and we're gonna move on. (Top tip tho it is easy to blow up your house if you do that wrong, so don't have the character accidentally blow up his house.)

What made you start writing?

I wanted a story to exist and no one had written it the way I wanted it, so I had to do it myself. That's always it. If someone else could just deliver exactly what I want the way I want it, I don't think I'd be out here in the word processor mines getting the writing equivalent of the black lung. But I want it how I want it, so. Here I am. [cough cough]

What's the sweetest fic you've created so far?

ummm [pause while I go check my ao3] -- idk, I guess this is probably recency bias but I'll go with my latest heaven coda, feels like rain. It's sweet the way I like sweet, which is comforting and there's definitely sugar but it doesn't make your teeth ache. They'll repaint. <3

What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?

Almost entirely good ol' Microsoft Word. I hate writing inside Google Docs and try to avoid it if at all possible. Dropbox Paper is okay but I prefer it as a note-taking/saving device. I've also used Calmly Writer Online, which has a nice blank-slate vibe (and will auto-generate an m-dash, which is not to be sniffed at), but if I'm remembering right it doesn't save things for you so it's a bit high risk. I have also been known to use pen & paper, but I think faster than that so it's mostly frustrating -- nothing better than literally closing your eyes, setting the music volume to stun, and racing through some sprinty writing in the boring blankness of Word with sans-serif font. :)

I really don't have a clear answer! In my experience I never seen any content for it (before Oblitus Casa at least) aside from people making vague mentions of them being canon in their aus, so I think it was really just the potentional? The idea of Jake helping this person who was just like him- an SSA intern trapped to face off against these disney things from hell- find peace even though he's a reanimated corpse was just super fun to me! I tend to ship them in a more "they met thanks to Treasure Island, didn't know each other at all before this" sense but even then imagine scenarios where they WERE close beforehand is fun too!

Oblitus Casa really reenforced it tho with the Madoka and Homura vibes they got going on here though LMFAJIFTGH

What are your favorite things about the ship?;

The potentiental, comedy and fluff as stated before! There's comedy in the fact out of everyone, Jake, seemingly a normal guy, decided to date the yellow wax(?) corpse/stuffed mickey mouse suit/guy made of scrap pieces he found on the island. Like gah damn. There's also just a lot of fluff stored in them healing post-Treasure Island. Fuck Oblitus Casa's ending I want Henry off that island and learning to readjusted to society w/ Jake and healing and growing and bonding with the one person he thinks he can rely on!

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?;

I don't think so?? Like I said the ship wasn't popular from what I could find when I first shipped it (2018) and nowadays no one's made any wack ass aus or headcanons that makes me think "now what are you doing to them-"

Idk maybe my one preferance is that people don't shove angst relating to this ship down my throat, which hasn't even happened but it's still smth I. Don't want to deal with fghjk god forbid they're happy in my au, yknow? I went to 1. It was pretty fun, it was kinda funny to see everyone wearing super appropriate attire and dancing to songs with nothing explicit in them. My siblings went to a senior prom dance in the public school and oh boy did it sound totally different.

yeah its called a stake. a stake is made up of 10 or so wards, which are like the people you go to church w and generally do activities with and stakes will sometimes get together for activities like dances. nah i never went to the stake dances just bc i didnt really want to, it’s cool that you went and had fun tho, yeah i can see how some people would like those more than school dances. i did go to a dance at a stake youth conference tho so that was similar. every year theres girls' camp for the girls and high adventure camp for the boys but every once and a while we would all get together for youth conference, i went to one ward youth conference which was just a fun camping trip, and the stake youth conference was in the middle of the winter in cabins it was actually a blast and the dance was actually pretty fun. the church may be fucked but at least the camps are fun

how often people wear their garments is an indicator of how committed they are to the faith kinda like the earring thing. some people wear them almost all the time, some only when they're going to church or something. its not a hard and fast rule, but there is the belief that they will protect you from harm, like if you get in a car crash, so they are for your own benefit.

omg i am so glad you asked about baptisms for the dead. ok so there are a series of covenants, which have been described to me as promises made with God that you have to have done in order to get into the highest rung of heaven (the mormon afterlife is. so weird. its so complicated) and if they werent done during life, they can be done on your behalf by someone else. you can get baptized and confirmed (priesthood holders, usually family, lay their hands on your head and given the gift of the Holy Ghost and confirmed a member of the church holy fuck this religion is weird) at the age of 8, and starting the year you turn 12 you can get baptized and confirmed on behalf of people who have passed away. mormon temples are the only place baptisms for the dead can be done but your own baptism can be literally anywhere, there are baptismal fonts in most mormon churches for that.

anyway in order to enter into the temple you have to have a temple recommend which needs to be renewed each year, which you get by interviewing with your bishop (the ward leader) and he asks you if you keep the commandments and believe in the Godhead and Joseph Smith and stuff (very controversial part of the church, i was lucky and always had really nice bishops growing up but i have heard stories of kids straight up being asked if they masturbate ahaha lol) i remember the last few times i went saying like yeah i dont believe in the church :) and then just not having a temple recommend and when my young women's class talked about organizing a trip to the temple i had to be like yeah im not going anyway :)

i did go when i was younger tho and like actually believed in all of this tho, we would go before school on wednesdays which tbh was kinda fun. it was early but the temples are so peaceful. but a little creepy. the temples are mostly worked by older people who are usually very nice, you walk in in sunday dress and show your recommend. mormons are obsessed with family history and genealogy and own FamilySearch, an incredibly extensive library of family history stuff where you can track your family tree back generations. the reason theyre so obsessed w this is because they want you to perform covenants for all your deceased family members so you can be reunited in heaven. the church is INCREDIBLY focused on the family. you can bring family names to the temple or the temple will just give you random ones, usually about 4 or 5. they'll give you clothes for the baptismal font, which are all white jumpsuits, or you can bring your own if you have them. the baptismal fonts in mormon temples are kinda cool tho, the font rests on the back of 12 oxen statues, representing the 12 tribes of Israel which is whole nother can of worms, and the room that theyre in is v beautiful. anyway there are locker rooms to change in, and you'll go wait in a room w a window overlooking the baptismal font room and either do baptisms or confirmations first. the entire process is meant to be very reverent, and they have scriptures and church magazines in the waiting room if you're bored.

baptisms, you'll wait on benches on the side of the font until it's your turn, hand the dude sitting on the side the names as well as a slip of paper with your own name, and walk into the font, he'll display them on a screen where another dude who's gonna be baptizing you (if its a trip w people from your ward like i did when i was younger usually a priesthood holder just from your ward) can see them, there's a very specific way in which you hold onto his arm so he can quickly dip you all the way under, (and you can hold your nose so you dont get water up it) its believed you can only be baptized if youre completely immersed and he'll repeat this prayer for each name that you have: "(Brother or Sister) your name, having been commissioned of Jesus Christ, I baptize you for and in behalf of temple name, who is dead, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen." he would then dip you underwater, and repeat for each name that you had. then go take a shower in the locker rooms. tbh getting ready for the day in there w my friends was kinda fun.

for confirmations it was basically the same, they would take about 5 people into a room and each person would take turns sitting in a chair where usually 3-4 priesthood holders would lay their hands on your head and repeat this prayer for each name you had: "(Brother or Sister) your name, in the name of Jesus Christ, we lay our hands upon your head for and in behalf of temple name, who is dead, and confirm you a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and say unto you: Receive the Holy Ghost. Amen." and again repeat this for each name you had. then shake the hands with all the dudes. the entire process of baptizing and confirming a few people in a group of about 10 people takes less than an hour, and we would go get donuts afterward. looking back this was. weird. other covenants have to be done for the dead too, such as endowment, marriage sealing, and receiving the priesthood for men. (but you have to be older for those so i dont know a whole lot about them) The idea is that people who died without having these done cant move onto the next step in the afterlife until someone on earth does all their covenants for them. this is also a kinda controversial part of the church, as people have performed covenants for the dead on behalf of like. holocaust victims. but it is believed to be a divine mission given by God to baptize and confirm as many people as they possibly can.

temple trips can mean covenants for the dead like i just described, endowment, marriage, family sealings (done when a baby is born or a child is adopted) and tbh the inside of temples is kinda gorgeous. before theyre dedicated, theyre open to the public, and i got to see the provo city center temple before it was dedicated, which is a way cool temple because it was an old tabernacle that almost burned down

hi anon! i'm going to answer these in parts bc i think they're going to take a minute, stay tuned for the second half of your q. i don't feel super comfortable talking abt njpw norms since i'm not familiar w it as a company enough to be critiquing the way that i can be comfy picking at aew. but i can talk a little about aew and maybe try to contrast that way! these are great questions + thank u for asking them <3

blocker talk under the cut! not an analog to hormonal birth control but maybe similar vibes, if that's something you're sensitive to.

first off boring disclaimer: i am a vulgar communist i don't think that ~progress~ can be made under late capitalism and am generally a cynical bitch tm abt aew as a project irl (though it is much better than anything run by v*nce mcm*h*n). so that is the lens i take for any form of ~social change that might be depicted - none of the characters in speculation share this viewpoint, though they range in degrees of cynicism.

blockers are probably, actually, a relatively progressive option allowed by both major companies. (i think in japan maybe they would enforce stricter segregation during heat or rut which might track to their enforced weight classes. don't quote me on it tho.) asking someone to wear blockers is not like, chill or fun, but it is definitely better than not booking them at all. which is absolutely what happens if you have an alpha at the top of the card who doesn't want to wrestle an omega with a distracting scent. theoretically at aew any opponent can request that of any other opponent - blockers are a non invasive and temporary intervention that shouldn't make you a worse wrestler - but it can be weaponised.

realistically who gets blowback for asking for this option matters. when adam is saying page could ask him to - he could and it wouldn't be a problem. (this is also partially because adam has a ~reputation, deserved or undeserved, but adam would never think of himself as contributing to his own circumstances in that way lol.) an alpha asking an omega to wear blockers is considered an acceptable compromise to get the match to happen at all; an omega asking is probably rarely done and if it does happen there is some negative murmuring. (see the killers, below.)

in practice, i think this norm is rarely enforced at aew and it is probably more enforced at wwe. though materially the actual divider is schedule. wwe wrestlers who are omegas are more likely to be using blockers or forms of cycle regulation that are more invasive and have more side effects because they just work more shows. it's way harder to justify taking time off or like, having a sudden heat or whatever when you're supposed to be doing four shows in a row. (aew omegas - and alphas - might for whatever reason also make use of those forms of regulation. but it's more possible for them to make those decisions independently without an employer's input.)

ALSO being allowed to / encouraged to wear blockers / not having to play on tropes of designation is advantageous to both alphas and omegas; using scent to influence your like, feelings or your fighting ability is risky shit and can and does backfire often. (see seth in iff.)

more on the wheeler and danny (and lee moriarty, who also wears blockers due to his friendship with danny) stuff coming up in the next fic (maybe, touch wood). but the difference is generational; it is considered polite among zoomer wrestlers to wear patches if you're unfamiliar with your opponent, because you can manipulate them if you know what you're doing and/or lose your head a bit. as above, in some promotions this is part of the draw (and adam cole is really fucking about it), but for the killers especially, the emphasis is on technical skill and scent is considered to detract from that.

(if you asked lee or wheeler why they wear blockers they would not say "because danny garcia wants me to". despite that, this is absolutely the predominant opinion amongst older wrestlers who are aware of this arrangement.)

i was gonna answer this ask this morning but then i forgot so. <3 i can't believe i'm seeing noa nctzen transformation in real time. nct u is like,,,, a changing subunit and imo the coolest thing about the whole nct concept. like, depending on the theme of the comeback, the nct unit could have different members. misfit, ok!, and 90's love all have different lineups, tho i think mark is the one member that's in all three.

tbh i think nct as a whole is great for people who are fans of concept groups, because nct is sooo flexible yet consistent for that. like, 127's sound isn't unique anymore but they were doing boy group noise music since 2016, back when people were using noise music as an insult for them. wayv has such a consistent sound and concept (and tbh the only nct unit with lore) and nct dream.... used to have a very strong concept but now just makes generic 4th gen boy group music but i digress

also. wayv and 127 are definitely the music units, and wayv is my bias unit. they're having a comeback soon!!! imo all their title tracks are good (except regular chinese version) but my favorites are take off, moonwalk, and turn back time. second tier wayv title tracks would be bad alive and kick back. and.... that's all for wayv.

Actually one of my favorite things to do, as a lot of people I talk to on discord can attest to, is to take songs from my playlists and analyze them/explain why they relate to that story. I might...do a little of that... here.... Not to the extent that I usually do, but some of it.

So the first vibes song that I will share is The Perfect World by Marty Friedman! Just in general the vibes of apathy towards faith and accepting death, and like. Saving yourself and creating our own perfect world instead of relying on external forces... yeah <3 That vibes a lot.

Some lyrics I think are particularly fitting:

Broken people, broken feelings Feeling numb but know they're bleeding Light and darkness bond together "Faith will save you" (Yeah, whatever…)

And then also:

Aside from that, other songs that I think vibe pretty well are Along Came A Spider by Czesław Śpiewa (I know it's a song about World War II but the Vibes..... really feels like a good horror song in general), The Business of Paper Stars by Hawthorne Heights (which is apparently about the education system but I am relating it to my OCs because it's got good vibes <3), aaaaand Bird With a Broken Wing by Owl City (idk how to explain this one but just the vibe of like. the idea that ghosts in A Modern Ghost Story are just sad, lonely, scared people).

OKAY so now I want to share a Roach Song. The Roach song I'm thinking of is one I actually used to associate with a different character, but it's a Roach song now. That song is Kiss Me, Kill Me by Mest!!! Specifically I relate this song to their relationship with a character I've deliberately been kinda quiet about, Vulture!!! He'll be explained a bit more in part two of Vultures are Holy Creatures (the Roach Ramble).

The TL;DR of Roach and Vulture's relationship was that it was super nasty and toxic and codependent and it's the reason behind a lot of Roach's persisting self-esteem issues, and that's the vibe I get from this song </3 I'll share some lyrics I like tho:

I kinda wanna type up a full summary/analysis of Kiss Me, Kill Me and why I think it fits Roach and Vulture, but I'm gonna wait at least until after I finish part two of Vultures are Holy Creatures.

Anyway to round this off, rather than sharing a bunch more Roach songs, I want to share songs that make me think of the other characters. Because I feel bad about how much I latched onto Roach. I won't share lyrics for all of them, I'll just share the song and explain it briefly.

Sydney Ambrose - Toxic Thoughts by Faith Marie (vibes of Syd's struggles to live up to their own expectations and their relationship with themself) (Fun fact this is also a good song for my OC Ink, but he's not in this story, and that's for very different reasons)

Yara Key - I Don't Daydream Anymore by Unlike Pluto (the vibes of this song are kind of wild but they make me think of Yara's desire to live her life to the fullest and enjoy it while she can rather than dwelling on what comes after)

Oliver Cox - It's Alright by Mother Mother (vibes of Oliver struggling a lot with his own mental health but putting off helping himself in favor of helping others, and him struggling with doubt but still trying to stand strong and have confidence in himself)

Vincent Cruz (new guy) - TV Head by Elliot Lee (vibes with Vincent being raised with very strict standards that he couldn't quite live up to and his need to lie to make others think he's something he's not so they'll like him)

Juno London - Dead Girls by Penelope Scott (honestly could vibe with most of the voids, but for Juno I relate this song to Juno's self-hatred that they mask by being an asshole to everyone, as well as the fact that they aren't a very empathetic person but still make the choice to show compassion, even if their methods are unconventional)

Asher King - Cradles by Sub Urban (also a song that applies to most of the voids, but for Asher this makes me think of her desire to mask her true feelings from others and come off as always cool, collected, and competent)

Apollo - Sleepwalk by Forrest Day (this song once again fits all the voids but for Apollo specifically I think this song fits his struggles trusting himself and his own perception of reality)

Man oh man how they get together is a tricky one cause there's always so many possibilities and I can never commit to just one... like does it happen during a mission? At the freedom fighters' hq? Completely alone in a forest or just a room away from Sonic's friends? Is it an instant moment where Scourge just blurts out "hey wanna date" or do they ease into it without even knowing? Have they been flirting for a while or were both of them too distracted to notice their feelings for one another until that very moment? So many possibilities and I love them all

Whatever happens, Scourge is definitely the one who asks Sonic out (or at least clarifies their relationship) bc he's the one with relationship experience, and they probably don't talk about it too much. No big confessions of love bc Sonic doesn't know how tf emotions work and Scourge would never drop the L word before even starting a relationship but he also thinks saying "hey I really like you" is embarrassing. The "I love yous" would have to wait until they're comfortable in their relationship

I like to think they've both been aware of their feelings for a while (as are the rest of the freedom fighters bc they're not fucking subtle) and Scourge (once he gets over the fact that yes, he does like Sonic) at least has been flirting before they get together, but I'm open to other interpretations

My favourite scenario atm is that it just kinda... happens. No plan, the opportunity just presents itself and they take it. They're dicking around, probably play fighting, somewhere in the woods bc they got kicked out by Sonic's friends for being too damn disruptive. They're poking fun at each other and wrestling with each other and then there's a moment of stillness where they're so, so close to each other. Within kissing distance kinda close. And each expects the other to take advantage of their distraction to pull some dirty move to get the upper hand but neither of them do. They both realise oh fuck, I really wanna kiss him, and when Scourge unconsciously leans in he half expects Sonic to pull away bc he's an emotionally stunted bastard, but by some miracle, he doesn't. And hey, that's an encouraging sign, right?

If asked both will claim they initiated the kiss. No one ever actually finds out who actually initiated, and honestly neither of them can remember properly cause they were a lil busy. It's a short kiss, but that doesn't matter. And Scourge, who has known about his feelings for a while now and has been tentatively flirting with Sonic but unsure if Sonic was actually flirting back or just thought they were bantering, finally asks him out

("Wanna go out with me?"

"Do you really think I'd snog someone I don't wanna go out with"

"Don't say snog you asshole you've ruined the fucking mood")

It's not the most romantic response, and makes all of their "how we got together" stories in the future really anticlimactic after such a good build up bc Scourge will never let anyone forget that Sonic lowkey ruined the mood, but it gets the job done, and they're not super romantic anyway so neither of them mind

1. My writing and art skills. This was the easiest to think of. I've put so much work into them throughout my life that I just can't not be proud of it, even if I don't like what I make sometimes.

2. I really like how queer I am tbh. It's taken me so long to really figure out who I am and while it's not always been a fun journey, it's definitely contributed to who I am a lot. So I'm super open about being trans, acearo, etc.

3. My acting skills. I would have been in drama club when I was younger, but I never really got around to extracurricular things. It did come in handy quite often to stay home 'sick' or get out of trouble tho.

4. My fashion sense, sort of? Most of the time I'm just a hoodie and jeans guy, but I can be really good at putting outfits together when I want to. It makes it a lot easier to pick clothes for events and such without being nervous.

5. Recently I've started really liking how my face looks now, since I've been on testosterone for almost two years and it shows. And I've always liked my eyes too, they're a sorta bluish-grey depending on the lighting.
