seeing the chappell roan discourse is making me so mad. she is a person who made her boundaries clear as day and yet y'all are hating on her????

"oh but *we* made her famous so she owes us this" NO SHE FUCKING DOESN'T!!! she makes her art and we consume it. we support her and we get art in return. we pay for a concert and she plays a concert. that's the whole trade. if she's just walking down the street and you ask for a photo, there isn't any trade: you're asking her to do something for you when she is off the clock, so essentially something for free. if she takes a photo with you, great! and if she doesn't want to, also great! because she is entitled to her privacy and you, by the great institution of Common Decency, should respect her decision and not demand more. it's a simple concept and you shouldn't be having a problem with it.

"oh but she chose this career, she should face the consequences" i'm going to explain this in very simple terms: she chose be an ARTIST. i know it's not a 9-5 but, at the end of the day, it's literally just a job; she pays her bills with it, she does that for a living, so it's a fucking job. stalkers and creeps SHOULD NOT COME WITH THIS or any other profession. simple as that.

time and time again, we have the same conversation about how we idolize artists to the point of serious endangering behavior – every day people preach about stan culture and how we should stop deifying them. yet when an artist, especially when it comes to female artists, comes forward and sets crystal clear boundaries to avoid this idolization, everyone hates on them and says they are ungrateful. so what do you guys actually want? because chappell humanized herself. she separated herself from her art and she actively went against stan culture by expressing her feelings. she just did EXACTLY what everyone says we should do and yet people are getting mad at her. it's insane to me that people are so defensive of literal criminal behavior as a success byproduct. absolutely insane.

to everyone who got mad at chappell, i urge you to sit down and think about why you are mad. because no one should be mad at someone setting boundaries to live their life without fear, even if said someone is a celebrity. you guys should go frolick in a meadow or something. reconnect with nature idk just touch some grass every once in a while.

We are 9 episodes in on My Stand In and I'm still hissing at my screen every time Sol shows up.

That man was really out here ranting and raving and being all WHY AREN'T YOU GUYS MAD about Ming as if he was the one being wronged like Joe didn't whole ass watch his damn body be cremated the day before. He really thinks he a main character and he's not even the possible second choice love interest.

Like he really dragged Joe away while he was calling for Ming and then told Joe to snap out of it cause Ming doesn't love him. Good to see he's still willing to physically drag Joe away from things he doesn't like, no matter what Joe wants, even in his second life.

He also has the audacity to be out here refusing to read the damn room and see that Joe looks uncomfortable AF anytime he drops a random "I care about you so much" line because it's not needed nor appreciated. He smooth brought Joe into his press conference to call him his boyfriend! And we all know good and damn well Joe wouldn't have agreed to that.

And then he was out here trying to fight Ming at the afterparty saying he doesn't give a fuck knowing good and damn well it would be Joe's ass if a public fight happened because he is the most unknown of the unknowns, while Ming's family is wealthy and Sol is, at the very least, semi-famous.

He's just always talking mad shit about how Ming is terrible and how he wants to save Joe from him and blah blah, but then he's instigating fights with Ming left and right. And personally, if I knew my friend was with a shitty man, I wouldn't keep antagonizing that man knowing my friend is the one who's dealing with the consequences every time. But I would actually want better for my friend because I care about them as a person and not as an ideal image I built in my head of someone I want to date. And that is clearly where Sol and I differ.

Like Ming is a delusional asshole, no argument there, but Sol is a Nice Guy and nah. I want him GONE. Let him go back to Korea and get some dick there. Cause he's not an option for Joe, nor was he ever at any point during this show, yet he really thinks he has relevancy here. Ming is better than me (or more insecure) cause I would have long since told Sol you don't compare when you don't compete.

i have a little, yes. um mostly i just find it deeply confusing what they were going for. her bard backstory just doesn’t tally with her painfully naive dialogue, i don’t really find her compassion convincing so as a “good companion” she just doesn’t land for me, and her faith doesn’t really land either... she never has anything interesting to say about it and it doesn’t feel like the writers really care that much lmao. then there’s the whole baffling thing where they couldn’t decide if morrigan or leliana was the more traditionally feminine one so they commit to neither and both have weird moments jumping between complaining about each other’s gender conformity or lack thereof. there are huge missed opportunities to actually make her relevant to the plot: leliana’s mixed orlesian and ferelden identity could have fixed a massive hole in how dao lands emotionally by making the past conflict with orlais relevant, and yet it’s discussed exclusively in banter with loghain, who most people never recruit. and they cut late game chantry involvement in the landsmeet so that’s nothing

to me frankly it feels like they made up the bard backstory and then decided they had to offer a “nice girl” romance to counter morrigan and just sort of frantically smashed the two together and imo it rarely works. it’s obvious the bard character was something they really wanted to do and they had various thoughts on how to do it, because they put another one in the stolen throne. the lack of real sharpness of characterisation for leliana means that for me when you’re selecting your party she just can’t remotely stand up in dialogue quality to our other available rogue option. leliana needs a really good banter partner to sort of lift her up and i’m always disappointed by her plot comments i’m like... wow... you’re glad we could help some people... again... riveting... could’ve brought Anyone Else... like it’s mesmerising that she has a whole mechanic where you can ask her about locations while you’re walking out and about and she never once has anything really fresh and interesting to say. how are you a bard. as an aside, i really don’t care for the VA work and i’m mesmerised to have just discovered on a google search that the actress is actually french. i was really going to say with my whole chest that maybe she just had to devote all her effort to maintaining the accent but no! wild. it feels deeply unconvincing to have this be the skilled voice of the subtle bard when claudia black is doing her thing thirty feet away
