me when the trope is two characters who want so badly for it to work out but know it just won’t because they have different aspirations and understand it’s unreasonable to compromise their dreams and futures for something as ephemeral as another person

people are so quick to laugh at other people for taking extremely loaded and upsetting representation in media ~too seriously~, but also conflate the words of some of the most powerless marginalized people with censorship by the FUCKING US GOVERNMENT. it’s so disingenuous it’s so silencing it’s so fucking shitty
it also very much feels like the cultural moment we’re in right now, where bringing up issues rooted in deep irl power structures is automatically written off as oversensitive and reactionary. it’s just media, until it’s an example from real life—then it’s just not that serious, or it’s childish to draw those connections, or it’s censorship to bring it up in the first place. allusions to irl violence are chump change but irl violence is always an isolated incident. and no one cares that this attitude magically seems to exclusively benefit the extremely conservative worldview that holds power
like lmfao no i don’t think it’s your right or anyone’s right to cover your eyes to obviously shitty offensive media writing laden with cultural baggage…. so that you can ~just enjoy it~! does this say nothing about you when you jump to silence the critiques of folks who noticed the harmful shit that went over your head? hot take… media is actually made and consumed by human beings who live in a society

in similar bitching, theres a horror post floating around that i'd LOVE to reblog except one of the fucking memes on there is just bitching about "elevated horror" that i swear does SO much worse. like, yeah, sure! just casually imply that fucking CRONENBERG movies have no themes to them! theres no deeper meaning to the thing! clearly nightmare on elm street has no deeper meaning going on beneath the surface and youre clearly stupid for pretending so!

Would regimen Tord make Tom watch anime as a torture method? What's Tom general opinion on anime anyway? In your opinion ofc
This is so fking funny oh my god.
Canon: No
Non-canonical: Not as a torture method, hes a fking weeb so it would be his idea of a date.
Tom’s thoughts: Not his scene but he doesn’t mind the cool ones that he comes across sometimes. Doesn’t actively look for it though.
Tom’s thoughts while on this cursed fucking date with Tord: He needs someone to shoot him or something RIGHT NOW because Tord just lined up a week’s marathon worth of GENERIC ISEKAI if there is a god please oh god someone kill him RIGHT NOW-

It’s 04:35 in Amsterdam and I’m way jet lagged but the rage is real tonight. I don’t get how every other character got such a more realistic and realistic exit in the OC universe except for Jay.

I'm bringing this back because this applies to fic writers too, by the way. The commodification of our writing, the entitlement in our comment sections, the vague posts about our plots and headcanons in ship tags—it is burning us out.
If you want to continue to have fics and art for your fandom, you need to take a moment to seriously ask yourself what you're doing to support the creators in your spaces.
And if you are someone who criticizes the creative labour of people who create for ships or characters you don't enjoy: YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. You are the problem. And no amount of having "correct" opinions excuses your behavior.
I have such big feelings right now about how this fandom treats artists. This is the one hill I am willing to die on: all fandom artists deserve respect regardless of what ships they create art for.
Listen to me. Traditional fandom is dying. AI art is cropping up everywhere in fandom spaces, stealing work from real artists while getting twice as much recognition.
Meanwhile, the artists who are clawing and fighting to stay in these spaces are subject to constant criticism and harassment. They are taking hours to work on pieces that they share with us for free only to be bombarded with ungrateful comments. And on top of that, their work is constantly being stolen and reposted on other platforms without proper credit.
Fandom artists are fighting for their lives right now and the least that we can do is pay them the basic decency of shutting our mouths if we don't have anything nice to say.
If you are not paying the artist, then you are not entitled to art of your favorite ship.
If you are not paying the artist, then you are not entitled to art that fits into your specific interpretion of a ship.
If you want fandom artists to keep creating content that they share with us for free out of the kindness of their hearts, then you better learn to start supporting them.
Fandom artists are part of our community, and they SEE YOU making these negative comments. You may think that you're only putting down one specific artist, but they all see you. And they feel discouraged, and they feel angry, and they feel unwelcome, and many of them leave.
If you wonder why so many artists are putting their work behind patreon and withdrawing from fandom spaces, it's because of the way we treat them. Do better.

remind me to write some analysis post about chujin and some shit about how my dislike of him partially stems from him being a man because male characters are generally allowed to be more distant to their spouses and are allowed to endanger their children "for the greater good" while still being viewed as devoted loving husbands and good fathers while a woman doing the same thing would be seen as cold and heartless.

one of my absolute favourite tropes is “degenerative morality swops”
but specifically where character a is introduced as the “straight laced rule following law abiding character who believes in sacrifice for the greater good and will attempt to save the world over significant others and themselves” and character b is introduced as “troublemaker, rule breaker, full of chaos, does what they think is right whether it follows the law or not and will self sacrifice but will also judge whether the world or their significant other is worth saving more”
and then -> character a falls in love with character b and suddenly nothing else matters except character b’s safety and happiness, and the entire world can burn as long as character b is safe. EXCEPT, character b has fallen into some kind of evil/dark power and is slowly losing their own morality, but character a is protecting them and so by extension also losing their morality
ITS JUST SO GOOD!
like here’s the upstanding character falling in love (already an horrific act) with someone who plays jump rope with every moral action that makes a perosn respectable. and the love doesn’t make either of them better. no they both descend into some sort of madness. LET ME EAT THAT UP.
