So apparently there is a new story in the Kali series and we are following a whole new MC (hopefully she is smarter than Amala) and whole different set of Doobays (hopefully they are not super grimey).
I did not finish the first book because I did not get any of the endings. I am curious about this book because at the very very least, the MC will be pretty and the saris will be fire. Not sure if I will read it though.

The birth and resurrection of Buck
Have a meta to tide you over until the episode airs!!!
The imagery that the writers and the crew (and cast but they’re doing what they’re directed to do so I'm not including them here) have been utilising in relation to Buck and Christian symbolism is pretty interesting - and especially in relation to the resurrection of Christ.
We’ve seen so many references to it now that its almost like the universe is screaming at us or something! This is not fully comprehensive as I am sure there is more and I've not got time to do the level of in depth analysis I'd like to (I'm trying to get this out before 6x10 airs!), but this is the major points in relation to Buck and the resurrection. Putting it below the cut because its a bit long 😎
Buck is a saviour baby
We all know Buck was born to save his brother and that has had a profound impact on who he is and how he views himself - he has made saving people his entire personality. In Christianity Jesus was born to save the human race from sin and spent his life saving people through his preaching and miracles etc. Even Bucks name ties him to being a saviour - Evan means 'Gods gift' or 'Gods messenger' playing into the idea that God gave the Buckleys a gift (which they then didn't appreciate) and he then used Buck to spread his message (which we are only now truly getting to see the extent of) which leads me on to;
Travelling Buck
The bible details Jesus travelling preaching and spreading the word of God. These travels are an important part of the story and actually stem back to his birth - Mary and Joseph have to escape from Bethlehem and spend time in Egypt before returning to Nazareth
We see Buck escaping his parents and heading out on his own travels - sending postcards back to Maddie. Bucks travels are an important part of his own story - he didn't use his travels to preach etc in the way jesus did but he did use them to
St Christopher and the tsunami
I have a slightly unorthodox view of the st Christopher and the tsunami connection - but hear me out. So most people refer to Buck as being the embodiment of st Christopher in the tsunami arc because he carried Chris and got him to safety - all totally valid and definitely a legitimate way to read it. I However think there is a second way to view it because yes Buck saved Chris etc etc carrying him like St Christopher carried Jesus, but if you think about it metaphorically, things can look a little different.
Think about it this way - Eddie and Shannon have a baby and name him Christopher - then Shannon gives Eddie the St Christopher necklace - to protect him and remind him he has a family to come home to. Now Eddie carries that necklace around with him like a talisman.
Fast forward to the Tsunami and Christopher is dropped off with buck by Eddie to get him out of his loft - Buck is metaphorically drowning in his depression etc over not being able to return to work etc. The show was blatant in its use of the tsunami as a metaphor for the tidal wave of grief and depression both Buck and Christopher (and Eddie to a certain extent) were experiencing for differing reasons (Buck identifying himself through his job and feeling there is nothing else for him and Christopher the grief of losing his mother) - theres a reason he is they are the only two directly caught up in the wave! Buck directly refers to Christopher saving him - up on the fire truck "we saved each other" and then Eddie tells Buck its time for Christopher to "do the same [save him] for you" and then we get Bucks voiceover about the life raft that gets you home - implying that it is Christopher (and Eddie though his words) carrying Buck home (to safety.
We get to see it in action again in Eddie begins - Eddie is buried in rising water - yet the thought of Christopher (and Buck) leads him to safety - to saving himself. The story of St Christopher talks about the water swelling and rising - much like the Tsunami of course, but also like the rising water Eddie battles through to get back to safety - to his family.
It is this reason that I would argue Christopher is the embodiment of st Christopher, and not Buck, although they are in many respects interchangeable.
While we're on the subject of St Christopher, it is worth mentioning that he is not only the patron saint of travellers, but also of things related to travel and travellers—against lightning and pestilence in particular, obviously we had the pestilence shown through Covid - and the separation of Christopher from Eddie and Buck as a form of protection and now the lightning is coming out to play. I think the fact its Eddie connected to Buck on the ladder is more significant than it just being about Buddie - it also connects into the st Christopher of it all - Eddies necklace forms that direct connection to Christopher, and Eddie is going to be connected to Buck via a rope (I love layers connections like this!) thus connecting him to Christopher as well!
Maddie
Maddie as a name means 'from Magdala' - the place Mary Magdalene is from. Mary Magdalene has had a bad rap over the years - there is very little evidence that she was a prostitute - it is likely that another Mary (the most common name for women of the time) was conflated with Mary Magdalene and thus she becomes known as a prostitute. Mary was considered Jesus's most faithful follower, and the one who understood him best - she is considered to have taken care of him and financially supported his ministry. We could attribute all of these same characteristics to Maddie herself - she is the one who has taken care of Buck, she has supported him - one could say that giving him the Jeep and some cash so he could travel is that same as providing financial support (Bucks ministry being the fact that he needs to travel to find himself and end up in LA, so giving him the jeep sets everything in motion) and Maddie is also the one who understands him best (Eddie is on his way to superseding her but shared childhood trauma edges in her favour right now!) Mary Magdalene is the one who witnesses the empty tomb and the resurrection of Jesus - ergo Maddie being the one at Bucks bedside when he wakes isn’t that much of a reach for us to make.
A couple of other snippets before we get to the resurrection itself;
Jesus was 33 when he died - Buck is 33 (approximately) in Canon at the time of the lightning strike 👀
Jesus was resurrected on the 3rd day - we’ve been getting all the 3’s - literally all of them - this season and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Buck is in a coma for 3 days (and if I'm right about this i'll be flinging myself into the sun over it!)
Also we haven't talked about the Taylor of it all - Taylor is Judas! Let me explain, Judas became Jesus's closest apostle, but he is also separated from the other apostles, through his dislike of the way Jesus went about certain things - he's the only Apostle to question Jesus outright right and he betrayed Jesus - which lead to his crucifixion.
With Taylor she has always had this antagonistic side to her - she questions Buck (without understanding or reason), and she is technically the closest to him (by virtue of dating him not because she is actually the closest person to him) whilst also being separate from everyone else in the show. It is Taylor who betrays Buck and leads to the higher ups semi blacklisting Buck in the aftermath - similar to the way Judas's betrayal of Jesus allowed Pilate to arrest and ultimately kill him. In the same way that it was essentially predetermined that Judas would betray Jesus, it was predetermined on the show that Taylor would ultimately betray Buck (and the 118). Its important to remember that Buck feeling like he's been black listed etc as a result of Taylors actions is a key part of his spiral in season 6 - it is the catalyst for so much of what has happened thus far and part of why he was so determined to prove himself captain material and for his decision to try the age of absolutely and say yes to everything!
As an aside to this Judas is often depicted in Christian imagery with red hair - just like a certain reporter we all know and hate!!
The Resurrection
So we've all been screaming over the imagery of Buck hanging in the air and subsequently being lowered to the ground and into the arms of Bobby and how it fits into Christian imagery of Jesus being removed from the cross Like this one - 'Deposition' by Caravaggio
Tumblr media
Deposition is one of the more famous paintings depicting this moment, but Christs removal from the cross is often depicted with the presence of ladders and the pose they have Buck in is also a commonly used one in the depiction of Christ's removal from the cross
such as this one by Rembrant;
Tumblr media
or this one by Rubens
Tumblr media
in both instances Christ is removed from the cross and into the arms of Joseph of Arimethea and we see the women of Christ (I hate that term but there we go!) both Mary Magdalene and his mother Mary in these paintings. Joseph was granted permission to bury Jesus - a feat normally undertaken by the father of the deceased. The fact that Joseph of Galilee wasn't present (when Mary was) suggests that he was already deceased.
you cannot convince me that this;
Tumblr media
wasn't inspired by the above art! there are a couple of really interesting things about the fact we have Bobby very obviously in the position of Joesph of Arimethea. Joesph of Arimethea is taking on the role of father figure to Christ and we know Bobby has taken on the role of father figure to Buck. I'm also willing to put money on the person we can't see being Hen - thus representing the women. This will also likely be accompanied by Maddie being at Bucks bedside (and we might possibly see Margaret there as well in some capacity even if I start growling!!)
The thing with the crucifixion, deposition and subsequent resurrection is that they are the key turning point in the bible - they are the moment when the work Jesus has undertaken up to this point gains its importance and status - without his sacrifice at that moment, it is very possible Christianity (and Judaism and islam as well for that matter) may not exist!
If we break it down in 911 terms and look at where Buck is at right now and where he is headed it all ties in very interestingly with Jesus.
The pipeline is essentially the same
Jesus; betrayed - crucified - removed from the cross - resurrected.
Buck; Betrayed - crucified - removed from the ladder truck - resurrected (and in a coma before waking up)
We know Buck isn't going to actually die - that wouldn't serve the same purpose for the show that Christs death did in the bible. The outcome is the same though. Buck is going to die - temporarily and its going to land him in a coma, but hes going to die. and that is so important. Buck is at apoint where he needs to shed the 'Evan of it all. the saviour label is so firmly attached to Evan and at this point in time Buck cannot escape its clutches - he even leant into it with the sperm donation. Now though hes discovering leaning into hasn't actually helped or made him feel better.
Buck is still stuck with this saviour label attached to him - only the risk is that now its becoming attached to Buck as well - not just to Evan (Connor knows Buck from before - when he was still Evan remember). Bucks choice to become a sperm donor means the lines are becoming increasingly blurred between Evan and Buck. In order for Buck to learn and grow - for him to be able to move on and essentially become who he wants to be - who Buck is, he needs to not be Evan anymore, so that means some form of rebirth.
This is where the coma storyline is such a great narrative device as a representation of the resurrection - in his coma Buck will get to see who Evan would've been - without the Buck of it all. He'll discover that it's not all its cracked up to be in his head - that thats not who he is, who he wants to be or who he'll ever be and being that won't make him happy. It won't be straightforward, nor will he get there immediately (healing isn't linear but Buck is on that road finally), but he will be carrying that knowledge with him and that will help him figure out that Buck is loved and wanted in a way Evan never has been (with the exception of by Maddie), that he isn't spare parts in the way Evan is and he will be able to be resurrected as Buck.
We need to remember that Christ was resurrected 3 days after his death and then appeared to certain people (in particular the apostles but also to others) during the next 40 days. This is why I'm expecting Buck to be in a coma for 3 days.
This is in no way as coherent as I'd like it to be - I think I'll have to revisit when I'm not feeling quite so insane about the episode tonight!!
I don't think I've written this much on religion since I was in RE classes at school!! I find the use of religious imagery in modern media really interesting and 911 is really going all in with it! Anyway I hope you found it interesting and I'm sure I've left out a lot of stuff, but the important points are all there I think!
feel free to drop thoughts opinions etc in the tags or comments - I can't wait to read everyone else's good thoughts and ideas!

Literally my one and only long post on TTEOTM ending:
Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu really gave stellar performances if they don’t win every award out there especially for Luo Yunxi who played every single nuanced version of sad, depressed, happy, sinister, vengeful, longing, pining and devotion out there like who else could?!
Also like the ending really left big question marks on Ye Qingyu and GYJW and YBC demon you know like???
---
CGI was damn amazing and production etc. was top-tier, but danggg will yall pls fix that ending?! Also a fun note that TTEOTM sold up to 13M RMB worth in merchandise DURING the airing period and broke some records I think
---
BE or OE or HE and does it matter?
Yes appreciating BEs is one thing and BEs are certainly great for certain plots and shows, BUT-
We’ve seen this BE in xianxia and sometimes wuxia/historical as if writers are dumping set BEs in just for fun, it’s almost always the same formula and not every show requires the same treatment? At this point we’re all certain none of the xianxias maybe a bit of the wuxia/historical too are going to end well (Immortal Samsara, Novoland, One and Only although I’d say O&O was perhaps deserved) or we get OEs (Winner is Love, LYX’s previous xianxia), or we get the split-second HEs (omg where do I begin, Eternal Love, CLJ, Pillow Book, The Blue Whisper, omg the list goes on) - I’m almost expecting either full BE or the guy to die and then turn up when the female lead turns around on a street or at home or whatever hundreds of years later cuz he comes back but you may or may not see him on screen
TTJ for one, based on his character and personality, was trying so hard to make things work, to give and give and give to the people he loved and the people who gave to him - sure, the writer wrote it as a BE and i respect that, but they also wrote the HE i.e. it’s canon, and the show not giving us that for whatever reason is depressing because the moral of the story is TTJ suffered so fucking much and led such a tired life just for a few happy moments and still was the sacrificial lamb. Yes he was happy too or whatever, he understood the circumstances, but is it so hard to give the canon HE ending to it and giving him the ending he truly deserves for all that he’s done?!
Also it was a strangely cut ending for a BE/OE whatever that was, like three stitched frames that faded out into each other, like I don’t know what the editors were doing but oomph an undeserved ending is one thing, and undeserved AND weirdly cut ending is another thing
And yeah if we read it as him being in the clam then yes it’s a mild HE but leaning towards an OE, and if we count the audio drama snippet sure HE, but no that don’t count!!!!
I feel pretty calm after the initial confusion since we already knew it was likely going to be BE BUT this calm is at the expense of watching TTJ suffer 10,000 times in the past 40 episodes we’ve been desensitized for the last death like don’t tell me yall aren’t tired of this show as much as you love it I AM EXHAUSTED MENTALLY - the “ok” i feel probably isn’t because it’s really ok because if we chose, we’d probably think he deserves his rest and happiness after 500+ years of suffering with happy days he can probably count on one hand
---
Read the novel for the HEs: This is literally the only thing that’ll save you unless Youku gives us a good video cut tomorrow or end of the week you know?! You’ll truly see what TTJ deserved and we know he didn’t deserve this because WE DON’t EVEN HAVE TO WRITE THE FIX-IT OURSELVES IT LITERALLY EXISTS?!?!?!
But TBF, personally, I have slightly different feelings on the novel because Susu didn’t seem to love him as much at the end as she did in the drama, the drama did that beautifully
---
TL;DR Tantai Jin deserved better, and the us who suffered with TTJ deserved better just on principle!!!

Breaking down the comics: Who tells the story (Issue 27)
Moon Knight, Issue #27: Cop Killer!
Tumblr media
Opening strong here. I adore any time they do a sky type view down on the city and the characters.
So opening on Moon Knight watching Jake drive his cab at night is just wonderful.
Tumblr media
....Does that sign on the side say Steven Grant is the writer?
Let's see what Mr. Grant is writing.
"August in New York. I hate it. Mostly I hate the heat. That sticky, damp heat that soaks you to the bone and oozes back out your pores. Some August nighs, murder is just another way for people to forget the heat.
This was going to be one of those nights.
On each of the last six muggy nights, a cop had been killed. Same M.O. in each case. Same markings on the bullets. Too bad no one could find the gun--or any other clues.
It was a sure bet that the killing hadn't stopped. I --Or rather, cabbie Jake Lockley--was wondering if we couldn't find a way to stop it.
Oh yeah. They call me Steven Grant. Me and Lockley, we're Moon Knight."
HOLY SHIT PEOPLE WE HAVE A GRANT STORY TEAM UP WITH JAKE.
(And let's not forget that Steven later goes on to become a director for Spetor studios in Lemier's run. I am excited people.)
"One Edge Lockley has over me or Moon Knight--When we need information, he's got the connections."
Why Steven, you are being generous today.
We see Jake in his cab pull up to a taxi waiting zone.
A cop named Richardson is there waiting and Jake calls out to him with corney jokes.
"Hey! Richardson! What's the going price for a cop these days?"
"Two years we've known each other, Lockley, two years you've been using that same lousy Joke."
That's my boy Jake alright.
Richardson is reading the paper with the headlines about a cop killer being on the loose.
Jake doesn't like that the cop killer is getting so much press. Neither does Richardson, but the commissioner is making noise to get the killer caught before the copycats start in.
Jake remarks that it's funny how the killer only picks out the Plain clothed cops and not the ones in uniform.
"You'd think he'd find easier targets, like uniforms. Must make you nervous, huh?" Jake jabs, considering Richardson is in plain clothes.
Richardson agrees that it does bother him quite a lot.
"Like...How the heck does he spot a plain clothes cop? F'r'instance, who could tell from looking which of us was the crimefighter?"
Tumblr media
"Boy! Nobody, I'd think. Maybe you got something there, Richarson."
Ah, comic humor.
Richardson heads back to work, telling Jake to be careful out there too. It's dangerous being a cabbie.
"Richardson had tried to not tell Lockley anything, but he told him enough. It was clear the cops knew more than we did. I wondered what Moon Knight could do with their information."
GUNFIRE!
"The shot came from just around the corner. Richardson had gone that way."
Jake runs towards the sound.
"In my gut, the part of us that was Marc Spector, the ex-soldier, knew what had happened. He had known that gut feeling in more wars than he could count.
Spector knew how fate worked. Spector wouldn't have joked about these things. Spector would have known better.
There are times I wish I hadn't put Spector away.
Then again, Spector would have laughed this off. Lockley and I just felt sick.
We shouldn't have left the scene, but the cops would have a field day investigating Lockley. His trail would lead them straight to Moon Knight."
Tumblr media
OKAY. There is a LOT going on right here.
First, Jake makes friends so easily. Everyone is first and foremost a buddy. He’s the friendly man of New York and he knows how to get people chatting.
Second, they talk about how Moon Knight might know how to use the information Lockley gathers. Another key indicator that Moon Knight is seen as his own separate person now.
Jake, Steven, and Moon Knight seem to have come to an understanding and are starting to actually work as a functional system. This is pretty big news!
It also shows that they have sorted out roles.
Finally, we can’t overlook the way Steven talks about Marc. He addresses the fact that Marc knows how things like this work. Marc expects death and ill-fate. He also addresses that Marc has faced a LOT of death and loss. So much so that he not only expects it, but he has learned to laugh it off as a defense mechanism.
And the BIGGEST thing here: There are times I wish I hadn't put Spector away.
I’m standing in a room pointing at this and screaming. Steven has accepted the role as gatekeeper. He has also deemed Marc not fit to run the body and ‘put him away’. Time and time again they try to remove Marc from their lives. Marc tries to remove himself from their lives. Steven takes the life from him and refuses to let Marc touch it. Jake will even often fight Marc out of front seat to prevent Marc from doing what Marc does.
At this point, they all feel that Marc is not something they feel is healthy in their lives right now. Marlene hates him. Marc is self destructive. Jake and Steven feel that Marc is too violent and causes them pain and strife. With Moon Knight acting as the one that can fight, Steven keeping watch on the body and life, and Jake acting as an emotional grounder and spiritual guide, Marc is just not something they need right now. Or so they think.
ANYWAYS. Back to the story.
Jake heads home.
"I called the cops from a pay phone, then beat it back to my mansion on Long Island. All the way I could hear Spector begging to get out.
He wanted the killer's blood. Lord help me, I wanted it, too."
Jake’s friend just died. Jake is obviously upset. Marc does not do well when people close to him are hurt. Even if he doesn’t always get along, if something happens to Jake or Steven, Marc is going to want to hurt someone.
The second Jake walks through the door to the mansion, Steven takes charge.
He looks for Marlene, possibly wanting some sort of comfort.
There's a fight going on inside their head and they are in pain.
Marlene: "Well, well. My favorite schizophrenic. Can't be Moon Knight-You're not dressed for it! WHo are you today. Steven? Jake Lockley? Marc Spector?"
(NOTE: I had to grit my teeth SO hard at this part. We have entered the era where the Moon Knight system is often going to be called Schizophrenic. Remember everyone, this was written in 1982. Multiple Personality Disorder didn't get an officially recognized diagnosis until 1980. It was often thought of, along with MANY mental illnesses, to be a form of schizophrenia. Prior to that, in 1968 it was listed under 'hysterical neurosis'. It was often thought of as "making up people". It wasn't till 1980 that the term Dissociative was even considered a class of disorders and not at all hashed out. The term was changed to DID in 1994 but was still not fairly fleshed out and still often thought of as just an amnesiac state of the ego. It wasn't till 2013 when the DSM-5 came out that things got updated to current accepted terms and definitions of dissociation. THERE IS GOING TO BE A LOT OF UNFAIR USE OF THE TERM SCHIZOPHRENIA. THIS HAS BEEN A WARNING. It’s also going to paint Marlene is a REALLY REALLY bad light. I’m going to try to give her the benefit of the doubt but fuck is it going to be hard when she outright starts being abusive towards them at times.)
Marlene takes a playful jab. I don't know... Maybe this is her way of trying? Maybe she's trying to make it a game?
It does not come off well.
Steven is not amused.
"Not Spector! NEVER Spector! This is MY home! I don't want HIM here!"
Keep in mind that Steven admitted that Marc was worked up and wanted blood. Steven has been holding him off since they found their friend dead in the street.
It's honestly probably gotten loud in there. Marc demanding to get out and DO something about it while Jake is in pain and sad about his lost friend.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to yell. A man...A Friend...Was killed tonight. Cop. I was thirty feet away. I couldn't stop it. Didn't even know it was happening until it was over."
Steven is struggling to handle things inside.
Marlene: "What are you going to do about it?"
Steven: "Me? Nothing of course. We know what Spector would do--Grab a machine gun and start cutting down suspects until he found the right one!"
Marlene: "Moon Knight?"
Steven: "Moon Knight."
He tells Frenchie to get ready. He wants Moon Knight out there doing something.
Moon Knight heads to the police precinct.
It's a hot night in New York and this makes people dangerous. The cops are overworked and understaffed.
We see a chaotic station of cops asking for backup, dangerous criminals starting a fight in the office, and one cop who claims to be a transfer but no one can find his paperwork.
As the Sargent tries to figure out the paperwork on the new guy, Mondnacht, the fight gets serious and he has to run out to help.
The new guy is left alone in the Sargent's office to start looking through files.
Tumblr media
Mondnacht.... Mond-nacht. REALLY? Moon-night.
"'Pt. Mondnacht' had a whole strategy for getting into police headquarters--and didn't need it. Life's like that. Not that it mattered. Moon Knight had what he wanted."
Moon Knight now has a list of the duty roster.
"The plan smacked of Spector, but it was a good one. Find out which cops were handling the case and read their files. The names were on the pilfered duty roster."
Moon Knight heads to the office of the first name on the list.
"The empty station house seemed full of ghosts to Moon Knight. Like he was one of them. A ghost. Or maybe it was the air. You don't get these feelings in the sunlight.
Or maybe it was me, not Moon Knight. Where do I go when Moon Knight takes over? Or Lockley? Or Spector? Maybe WE'RE the ghosts."
Jumping up and down screaming and pointing people. Look. Look. Steven is starting to ask questions.
Moon Knight breaks into the office by picking a lock. "One more skill gleaned from Spector."
Steven wonders where the skills are learned and who can access them. If Marc has a skill and Moon Knight uses it, is it Marc using his skill? How do they share?
Moon Knight digs through the files and makes a discovery. But he's interrupted!
The detective is not happy to have Moon Knight there.
Moon Knight asks him why there are no suspects listed in the case after so many days and so many dead.
The detective tries to arrest him for interfearing and breaking into the office.
Moon Knight tells him that he's on his side.
"Not on THIS case. This is a departmental matter."
This gets his attention.
"I wanted the cop to keep talking --But from somewhere, Spector screamed, 'Jump him!' Moon Knight only heard Spector."
Tumblr media
And there he goes… Jumping out the window again… At least Flint wasn’t there this time. Maybe I should start a ‘jumps out window counter too’.
Moon Knight heads up to the chopter to discuss with Frenchie what he learned.
"Ever hear of the Kingpin?"
Oh shit! We got Wilson Fisk people! Moon Knight has officially made it into the Marvel New York Universe!
"Few people messed with the Kingpin of crime. Fewer lived to talk about it. We had to beat the odds. The files proved that each murdered cop had busted a kingpin operation--and the fat man bore grudges."
You don't just sneak into Kingpin's building. He's got more security than fort knox.
So of course Moon Knight....
Tumblr media
Right through the window…
Well, at least Wilson is blunt about it.
Moon Knight takes out all the goons and demands answers from Fisk.
Fisk tells him that he bought the cops and had the cases they were working on dropped.
Moon Knight is pretty upset, declaring that one of the cops was his friend and couldn't possibly be corrupt.
Fisk doesn't care. He knows where his money goes.
"My reputation for violence is useful....But there are cleaner methods of dealing with people. MOST men have their prices. I can meet most prices. Your friend and his fellow officers had their prices."
And Moon Knight makes a rooky mistake. He lets Kingpin get up close to him.
Everyone always assumes that the fat man is just money and blubber.
Everyone always forgets just how freakishly powerful Kingpin really is.
It takes one solid punch from fisk to knock him out cold.
Luckily, Fisk has more ideas than killing.
He tells his goons to set Moon Knight free up on the roof. He wants his contacts at the station to give Moon Knight everything he needs to solve the case.
The cop killer is killing HIS bought cops and he wants the killings to end.
"Though woozy, Moon Knight heard everything. He feigned unconsciousness as they dragged him up the stairs."
The thugs drag Moon Knight to the roof.
"Spector clicked in. He didn't like being knocked around--And he was ready to take it out on anyone."
He springs up and knocks around the thugs a bit before heading to the copter and taking off.
Meanwhile, the two sargents Moon Knight was looking into have also just seen the Kingpin.
They have their orders and are on their way to carry them out.
As they head out, another car speeds past them at top knotch.
They call for backup as they give chase.
Moon Knight and Frenchie catch their radio signal in the chopper.
Frenchie asks if they should get involved.
"Sounds like routine business. We have better things to do."
Steven: "Moon Knight voiced Spector's thoughts. I wanted to get involved. For all his skill, Spector can be so bloody blind."
We see the Sargents corner the speeding car. They recognize the driver. Just as they are about to ask why he's speeding around so fast, he pulls a gun on them and opens fire.
The suspect yells "I know what you're doing and I know where you've been!" as he fires.
So he has been gunning down the crooked cops working for Kingpin.
One cop is dead, the other frantically calls for help on the radio.
Moon Knight picks up the signal and they rush over in the chopper.
Moon Knight arrives too late to stop it.
Moon Knight arrives as the one cop tries to warn him. He manages to get out “Looey”, but it all sounds like gibberish.
The suspect comes from behind and pulls his gun on Moon Knight.
"I only want the bad ones. Not you. Investigations don't stop them. Commissions don't stop them. When a cop turns bad, nobody's safe! You know what I mean! I never hurt anyone who doesn't deserve it!"
As the man rants, Moon Knight quietly reaches for his truncheon under his cape.
He's too late! When he turns around, the suspect is gone.
"Moon Knight had failed to stop the killer -- And deep inside, we weren't sure now we wanted to."
The killer is going after crooked cops working for kingpin.
Before he can think about it, the police show up. Moon Knight makes a break for it and the cops prepare to open fire.
A Sargent steps in and tells them all to hold their fire.
"He has it on good authority that Moon Knight's not our man!"
And an old partner shows up late, claiming he was stuck in traffic.
Now, if I know my Moon Knight crime comics, I'm willing to bet one of these men is the killer. Let's see if I'm right.
Back at headquarters, we see the old partner returning. He's there to fill out paperwork and Moon Knight follows.
"Don't turn around, De Rais! You gave me a break--and I'm giving you one! I know your secret--and I sympathize. I know what it's like to do evil in the name of good!"
Moon Knight explains that he knew the matters were a departmental matter, leading him to believe it was a cop that was the killer. He also theorizes that Looey meant Lieutenant, which is what De Rais is.
He warns him that Kingpin has a man inside the investigation. Since it isn't him, that leaves the Sargent.
He tells him that the killing must stop. "Stop now, before you're caught -- Or you mke me come after you!"
And Moon Knight leaves him.
Of course the guy figures his next move is to take care of the Sargent and then worry about Moon Knight later.
Steven is...Idealistic.
"That was supposed to be the end of it. Time would pass and people would forget and the case would go unsolved, like the Jack the Ripper killings. It was clear when I returned to my mansion that it wouldn't work that way."
Marlene can't believe that they let the killer go.
"He's not a mad dog, Marlene--And his victims deserved what they got! I found that out!"
"His motives don't matter! He's still a killer!"
"You forget--So am I!"
Tumblr media
Marc is still angry and fighting for a say in it all. Steven puts the reigns back on him, but Marc is still pretty upset.
I find it funny that Steven KNOWS Marc used to box, and when he’s angry and struggling with Marc, he always goes to the punching bag to work out the angry Marc energy.
We see the sargent return to his home across town. It's a lavish apartment that far exceeds a police officer's payrole.
He finds an envelope of cash on his table and gets a phone call. He has orders to take out his partner, permanently.
Sargent calls his old partner, asking to meet him at his place.
Both men are setting a trap.
Steven tries to call De Rais but gets no answer. He worries that De Rais is going after the Sargent.
While looking up the Sargent's number, Marlene takes pause. The Sargent's full name is Louis Fulcanelli. LOOEY!
So is it the Sargent or is it the lieutenant??
Spector wants to go seek out the Sargent's home. Moon Knight decides to head to De Rais's place.
For once, Moon Knight takes the lead.
The two cops meet up and Sargent gets the upper hand, holding De Rais at gun point.
It's all laid out on the table now. Sargent Louie is the cop killer and De Rais is working for Kingpin.
They argue on who is in the right. De Rais gets the upper hand and takes a shot, hitting Sargent in the shoulder.
Tumblr media
Look at that dramatic entrance. He’s always gotta make an entrance and an exit.
Sargent cheers that Moon Knight is on his side.
"We can work together! CLean up the department for good..."
Moon Knight turns to Sargent. He tells him that after a trip to the hospital for the gunshot wound, he's going to jail.
"You're a killer...As Bad in your way as the men you've killed... And I have to be better than that!" Moon Knight kicks away the gun and calls the police.
We jump ahead to a fancy restaurant where Steven is dining with Marlene.
She asks what happened with Sargent.
Steven tells her that he was put away under psychiatric observation, though he believes that in a way he is saner than a lot of people and in a way, a good man.
"You did the right thing, Steven."
"Too bad the right thing isn't always the decent thing. Well, I can live with that. And if Marc Spector would ever accept it--He might become a whole man again."
And we end on glasses of wine clinking.
OKAY. There was a lot in this comic. Like..A LOT.
Steven narrating (And this is big because we don’t get a lot of Steven’s perspective in the old runs, much less in current runs where half the time they forget Steven exists!), Jake being the good buddy he is and losing friends despite it all, and Marc fighting with Steven and Moon Knight.
We get Moon Knight acting on his own, but also under heavy influence from Steven and Marc. Moon Knight is a really special case and I’d need to do more research into alter roles and presentation to really speculate what sort of person he is. He’s his own person, but sometimes he seems to act under heavy direction from the others. And I have my suspicions but I don’t feel it’s my place to do a full call out.
We also have another moral decision on their hands. The choice they were forced to make with Stained Glass Scarlet still weighs heavily on them and not all of them are in agreement that it was the right choice. It haunts them and will continue to do so for a long time.
Being faced with a killer who is trying to clean up a corrupt department of cops, and the corrupt cops…. The system is at odds on what to do.
And Steven Grant chooses what he views as the high road. He strives to be better than Marc Spector. He feels like he and Moon Knight and Jake HAVE to be better than Marc, or it was all for not. Sometimes this leads them to go against Marc just to be contrary. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
We see Marc argue to do things that could have saved some of the cops, but we also see Marc argue to do some things that lead to deaths.
Steven is taking the role of Gate Keeper and in his eyes, this means keeping Marc out. He views Marc as a threat to their very wellbeing. Unfortunately, this is also causing strife in the system and inter-system arguments and fights for control.
We also start to see Steven view Marc as a wounded man that needs to be corrected and healed. He starts to get notions that if Marc can see and start to act in a more just manner without his temper and urge to hurt those that hurt them, then maybe they can heal and become overall a single better person.
We see what is often seen as a huge controversial problem solve of “Final Fusion” when it comes to DID. I’m not going to get into that. I have my own opinions on it, but it isn’t my place to discuss them without someone that actually has any say on it present.
Steven believes that Marc can go away and they can start to live as one man that can act justly. He sees Marc as “THE PROBLEM”. And this is going to cause further issues in their system that is just starting to figure itself out.
We’ll see more of this start to pop up later on.
Pretty excited about this issue! Hope you liked it!

I was gonna structure this better but I think these rants express my point pretty well. (Spoilers ahead for aai games and DD)
Here's something that's been niggling at me since I realised it --
Possibly one of the biggest flaws in the new series writer's finales are that they have 2 climaxes. I think that's Trials and Tribulations' fault (it's ALWAYS T&T'S FAULT) (although T&T is the closest example I can think of as to why this happens), but it's also just an issue and I hope SOJ helped him learn to stop doing that.
Like, in T&T, the whole finale climax is when you exorcise Dahlia. Calling Godot out after that is technically part of the falling action / resolution, but I can see how it can be mistaken for a second climax since like, people care a lot about Godot
(none of the other Shu Takumi AA games do this as far as I can think of. They all have very clear climax points and then everything else is falling action)
Compare to the aai games, DD, and SoJ, all of which have 2 climaxes in their finales. Aai1 has the whole Calisto Yew capture (works as a climax), then the climax of catching the leader of the smuggling ring (can't be called falling action because it takes another goddamn 5 hours to catch this man). Then aai2 has the Sebastian standing up to his dad as the first climax, then the whole mastermind thing as the second climax (same problem as aai1 as well, can't be called falling action because it takes another like 5 hours to get there) (and these are both treated as climax and very much not the same as the whole Maya testimony to catch Godot. Like that is very much falling action and has a different feel than these other two things.)
Like sure the smuggling ring has a whole throughline for the entire game, meanwhile Calisto Yew was only brought up in case 4 of 5, but she actually gets better buildup than the smuggling ring?? Probably because of the emotional investment ties she has not just to Kay, but to Edgeworth and Franziska and Badd as well! (And Gumshoe haha)
It's insane how much more I am invested in Calisto Yew than like, the smuggling ring. Or the Phantom, who has basically the same thing in DD (and with somehow LESS buildup despite being a part of the game's story from the first case!!) (…retroactively since the first case, but y'know. DD is a fucking mess hahaha)
Tangent: I have so many gripes with the Phantom, from taking an actually fun and likeable character (Fulbright) and making him the LEAST INTERESTING THING when he could have been cool (master of disguise!! Seamlessly emulates literally anyone imaginable!! Very little emotions!! That's such a cool concept I can't believe y'all fucking wasted it!!) and never actually building him up so that he's an actual presence
He's technically in the story from the first case, but only because. He's the one that detonated the bomb
If case 5-1 didn't happen in-between 5-4 like it did, then he wouldn't be there until 5-4 and it'd SUCK (okay technically he's there since 5-2 because. Fulbright. But Fulbright is straight up a different character from the Phantom so. I don't want to count it.)
It feels like the Phantom replaces Fulbright in 5-4 because of how little they paid attention to placing any hint that he was the Phantom all along. Ugh. As Verse keeps saying, they should have killed Gumshoe, for real
And it's not like this writer does a bad job at Gumshoe!! Gumshoe is one of the better parts of the aai games!! (He has rocks for brains but he's endearingly stupid XD )
Anyway. Back to the whole two climaxes dilemma.
In DD it's the whole Athena and Blackquill thing as the first Climax, then catching the Phantom is the second. This one is interesting because it's two breakdowns in the same case / trial segment, which does happen in DGS! But in DGS it has more time between them and, again, are treated differently on the story timeline feel. DGS has rising peaks and moments of calm that add to the rising action leading to the climax, whereas in DD these are both treated as bombastic climaxes without much differentiation between them. At least, that's how it feels to me?
And then SoJ just straight up has two separate trials in its finale case (which aren't even like 3-2 or 6-3 in which one trial leads into the other) and does better about having two climaxes, but I think all the peaks in the rising action are oddly paced and it has a satisfying ending but the journey to get there is a bit muddled. It doesn't exactly feel like it has two climaxes at least, showing that there has been improvement here, but it's still very messy.
I really hope the writer for AA7 at least learns from all this so we don't keep having this problem. It's funny how much we take writing fanfiction for granted and then see how much skill it actually takes to write something that feels like someone else's characters.

ARC REVIEW: Good Duke Gone Wild by Bethany Bennett
Tumblr media
3.5/5. Releases 8/20/24.
vibes: writer in disguise, crushes, and learning how to love (and trust) again
Heat Index: 6/10
The Basics:
Dorian, the Duke of Holland, is looking for a new wife after his previous marriage ended in his wife dying after having a torrid affair. This affair is on the brink of getting exposed when Caro, the bookseller he's employed to liquidate his wife's library--the same bookseller he can't get out of his head--discovers secret letters between the late duchess and her lover. As Caro and Dorian hurtle into a mystery together, there's an additional snag--she secretly writes scandalous novels under a pen name. If Dorian finds out and disapproves, he could shut down her family's bookshop. Yet she can't resist going on an adventure with this man--despite the stakes.
The Review:
This is one of those reviews where there really isn't a lot that I can critique about this book on a technical level. It's well-written; the characters are charming; I appreciate the way that Caro and Dorian both have friends and exist beyond their own internal bubbles. I love that Caro isn't a babe in the woods in her early twenties. She's seen some life.
And the actual mystery is pretty intriguing, and I think it will definitely please people who like something somewhere between hardcore mysteries and cozy mysteries. There are stakes, there's emotional complexity--I mean, it's Dorian's wife we're talking about--but it's not to heavy. For me, a mystery is really neither here nor there; it's very dependent on how engaged I am with the rest of the plot and character development.
While I wasn't disengaged with the story--there were things that made me smile and kept me reading--I just wasn't DYING to read more. It's the kind of very pleasant historical romance narrative that I think is popular at the moment. Caro and Dorian like each other very early on, and are honestly pretty aware of the attraction for what it is, too. They're a little too in touch with their own feelings for me; but I'm an angsthound.
I will say--it's not that the idea of a conflict centering on this "secret writer" thing is bad at all. I like it, though I think we can sort of put two and two together about why tradpub likes it for historicals right now. But I do think that the hero being in the dark for a long time can be a little... hard to handle. I can think of at least one book that made it less of a secret, and that worked far better for me.
The Sex:
I did like how the sex scenes in this book were written--they weren't super explicit, but they were fun and chemistry-ful and interesting. Caro takes a bit of charge with Dorian, and he sure does like it.
If you're the type of reader who enjoys a bit of light mystery and leads who are genuinely nice people and besotted pretty early on, I think you'll love this. Me? I need a it more OOMPH. But that's a matter of taste.
Thanks to NetGalley and Forever for providing me with a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

i think one issue is that many people in the 911 fandom are not taking appropriatere expectations into account – for characters and ships and arcs. 911 is not and has never been a show like Fleabag or Ted Lasso or others, where everything is meticulously planned from the very beginning to lead to a specific ending. i know many analyze 911 like it is but... it's simply not written that way.
911 is a show that lives from drama to drama, conflict to conflict, season to season. 911 does not have a specified ending planned for each character that it tries to work towards over a course of a specified amount of seasons. this is why i think people gotta take a look at Grey's Anatomy as a leading example for a drama show and learn a thing or two about how the caracters were used there. the writing is not stellar and the arcs often feel nonsensical and the characters keep learning without truly learning and many decisions feel dumb or OOC at one point or another. things get retconned, details get lost or rewritten, decisions that feel endgame will be suddenly thrown into the trash 5 seasons later for the sake of drama, beloved characters get ruined on the way.
911 is thankfully not as bad with the romance drama specifically, but it deals with the same problems as other shows from the same genre. characters are supposed to hold our interest for as long as possible to bring money. story and character continuity eventually suffer until you do not even recognize the characters anymore because these characters were simply not fully written and developed beforehand. the writers of 911 do not know everything about the characters either yet because they keep expanding on them for every new season. and they probably also don't know where they are going with them yet. because... does anyone really think that they know how long the show will continue? will we get 2 more seasons, or 5, or 7? pretty sure we as just as wise as the showrunners at this point. with drama shows like 911, you can never know because many decisions are not story-driven but money-driven. this is why these shows inevitably just cannibalize themselves at some point because the showrunners keep milking a story for money instead of understanding where the story is at its peak and should be ended. look at how many shows started out strong but then overstayed their welcome and then lost the plot along the way, like Castle and The Walking Dead and many more.
idk i just am sad to see so many people keep being disappointed after every single episode like... i think expectation aren't being managed well. people who want a story with continuity and coherence should not look for that in a drama show like 911. they are not designed for it.
hi!
yeah you're right, and this goes for a lot of shows that i've watched. it's sad really, because there are so many beautiful parallels to use and throw back to, but mostly, i think it's just an accident on the writers part.
i've mostly managed to keep my expectations really low when it comes to buddie, especially in later seasons because it just didn't seem like the show would really go there with them. the back half of season 6 felt different to me, tho, especially the poker episode, and ryan's acting choices in that. not to mention some of the extremely awful queerbaiting some of the crewmembers did in bts stuff. and i think that goes for the majority of the buddie fandom. so i think that's why we got ourselves hyped up, and the let down was even worse.
i'm still holding out hope for monday, but tbh, knowing what i know about the episode so far (spoilers etc), i doubt it'll end with any hint of buddie going canon.

OUAT Thoughts Pt.48--Episodes 9-10
I have watched through S5E10; spoilers DNI. Also, spoiler warning for those further behind than I am.
—Merida was serving some looks in this episode! The coronation dress was *everything* and the battle gear? Sublime. Leather, chain mail, and the clan tartan all put together makes for one gorgeous outfit. Plus, she had some of her hair braided. V cool.
—I can’t believe Mulan hung out with Merida for so long and didn’t become ✨knife wife✨! She has got to find a nice girl to have a happy ending with by the end of the show or I will be terribly disappointed.
—I did not need every Dark One in my life, thank you very much. They can all just shuttle right back to where they came from.
—I can’t believe Merlin’s actually dead. I didn’t expect that.
—Hook and Emma are being incredibly depressing right now. I need some evidence that Hook still loves her way deep down, or I’m gonna cry. And the worst part is that he’s justified in being mad at her, but what she did is understandable. I can’t really blame either of them completely, so I don’t know who do be mad at. I don’t like being confused.
—I guess Lancelot didn’t get cursed. Which is cool, because if he’s not cursed he’s probably also not dead.
—Did I know that his mom is the Lady of the Lake? I can’t remember if that comes from the original Arthurian legends or not, cause I’ve heard several different Lady of the Lake stories and I don’t remember any of them very well.
—Good to know that Rumple can hold his own in a sword fight. And the fact that he didn’t kill Hook, even though he jolly well could’ve, just proves that he’s not bad anymore.
—Now that he’s joined Regina in the ex-bad club, he’s learned that the first thing to happen to someone after going nice is a *major ouchie*. In his case, that would be Belle dumping him.
—I’ve got split feelings on that, tbh. I really really do need Rumple to have a happy ending. But he tried to get that before truly reforming, which is out of the sequential order, and according to Regina’s example the real thing takes a while after going nice. And while I have enjoyed Rumbelle, I’m not sure I could ever believe them together again. I would be quicker to accept their breakup if Belle wasn’t literally the only thing that makes Rumple happy. The thing is, as hard as it is for me to come to grips with, Rumple has been hard on Belle in the past. But he’s finally the person Belle always wanted him to be, and if she doesn’t want to try to make it work now, then she never will. I guess the gist is, I understand why Belle doesn’t want to get back together with him (even if it makes me sad), but what I care about most is Rumple getting a happy ending. And that doesn’t mean I want Belle run over to get it—the reality is, I don’t care who it’s with unless the pairing doesn’t make sense. I just need Rumple to get his happy ending.
—I swear, if the writers’ definition of happy ending is Rumple dying at the end of the show and us getting a five-second long scene of him reuniting with Bae in the afterlife, I will not recover. Ever.
—I love that the sons of the other three clans stood behind Merida during her quest for the helm. It’s fresher and more welcome than if they had tried to plot against her.
—Having Arthur and Zelena working together was painful. They are two of the most annoying characters in the entire show and putting them in the same space only amplifies their obnoxiousness.
—Cool that Red is still alive, I guess. I stopped thinking about her because she basically hasn’t existed for several seasons, so I don’t quite care, but maybe she’ll lead Mulan to her lady love.
—Seriously, I can’t believe it wasn’t Merida. Missed opportunity.
—Is Rumple going to keep Excalibur? I kind of hope so, because if it can’t control Hook, then it’s literally just a symbol of his heroism.
—I love Merida’s mom’s hairstyle. I’m really glad that transferred over, because it’s really pretty.
—In this show, that one clan son is actually pretty handsome. I wanna say Macintosh? Whichever clan is the one with the gorgeous blue paint, that’s the one. Nary a one of those boys was truly handsome in the movie, and Dengwal still isn’t, but both of the other two are actually pretty good-looking.
—Merida should get a bear-fur cloak. That’s the only thing that could make her ensemble cooler.
—Actually, her regular dress is pretty cool on its own. The way the separate pieces, like the forearm and upper arm, and held together with thick threads, but not entirely attached, is very practical for shooting a bow and arrow. Much more give than a solid dress.
—The stuff where the current Dark One can see the past Dark Ones is very Dax-like. Yk, that episode where Joran starts haunting Jadzia. That was one of my favorites.

Hiya owl!
I wanted to reach out because I'm sure you've seen your name come up a few times over all this drama this past weekend. I see your name come up a lot but I'm not sure if anyone has ever come directly to you to ask your perspective. I thought that seemed fair.
The things that seem to come up the most are a racist/xenophobic/prejudiced depiction of Din as a character being portrayed by a Latino man, and a forced heterosexist depiction of Din and Luke's relationship.
I've read some of your fics. I am latinx myself, and I will admit I have been uncomfortable with the way that Din is always portrayed not only as "dominant" but as an aggressor, including in your fics. This has led me to stop reading your fics. Have you ever thought on this before? Have you considered trying to maybe talk to some latinx people outside of your fcircle to make sure that Din isn't being portrayed in a way that makes many latinx people uncomfortable?
And Luke does always seem to be kind of placed into a more submissive role, sort of Grogu's primary caregiver while Din leads and leaves. And he always submits to Din.
I genuinely am trying to ask this graciously, so I'm sorry if any tone comes across as otherwise.
Is this blanket throughout? No. And it's not like it's just your fics. But I thought it was only fair to you to get your perspective.
Hi! Thank you for reaching out to me; you’re actually the first person to reach out directly. I’ve been seeing everything going on, but without someone tagging me or messaging me directly I feel a little weird just shoving myself into the conversation. I do appreciate you reaching out.
I want to put a “spoiler” break here just to make it easier for people scrolling who may or may not want to read further.
I’ve loved dark content for years- not sure what it is about it, if it’s dealing with my own trauma or exploring concepts that I would in no way condone in real life but are still interesting to think about. Probably a pretty even mix, like most other people who read dark content. Like any other trope in fiction, it’s a tool for the brain. In this case, a tool for exploring things that we would have no control over in real life, but in fiction we can.
I understand that fiction does not exist in a vacuum. The stereotypes that western media has put on POC characters, and the impact that has on the real world, won’t just disappear in the blink of an eye. But at the same time I believe in separating the fictional character from the real world person playing them. I would hope most writers would do the same, although I can’t speak for everyone. What I mean by this is when I write fanfic, I’m not thinking of Pedro Pascal the real person. Yes, I might look at other things he’s been in for inspiration, but that’s the same as taking something that a friend said or did and using it as the base for a fictional scene. When I write fanfic, I’m strictly thinking of Din Djarin, fictional character, and putting him into various “what if” scenarios, with certain aspects of the character as he’s written exaggerated. So when I write dark stories, I’m thinking of the part of Din Djarin who cut a man in half when he didn’t need to, who left a man to be eaten alive, who shot at jawas, or who was at least on some level willing to hand Grogu over to an unknown fate for beskar. Those are things he’s done in canon, just as much as him going out of his way to help a village, taking the time to learn the language of the Tuskens in order to safely and respectfully pass through their land, and breaking his creed in order to save Grogu are also things he’s done in canon. Different au settings are going to heighten different aspects of his character. This is true of any and all fictional characters and all that I have written about in the past and probably will in the future.
This is also based on discussion with other people. I have actually shared conversations in regards to this, to go over comfort, tagging, what it is about dark content, and its impact in regards to a character like Din. I have, honestly, only received support.
In the same vein, I have a similar outlook on the dynamic of a relationship. It genuinely is nothing more than “this is how I’m portraying these two characters, and this is the general relationship dynamic that I’m using for this particular story.”
The way that I write characters, no matter which fandom they’re for, is absolutely never intended to be malicious. I never want anyone to be hurt by my stories. It’s why I use as many tags as I do, so that anyone reading can look at the tags, look at the summary, and decide whether or not it’s something they feel comfortable engaging with. I am also always open to hearing what people think of the tagging system as well (one reason I always tag my asks as “owl inbox” so they can be filtered easier).
I am, though, always sorry if my writing has ever been uncomfortable. I do not want that. I know I cannot make everyone happy or comfortable and I am trying to accept that, be happy with what I can provide for my own sanity, and be open for discussion. I hope you continue to do what makes you happy and feel better within this community because, all in all, it is a really positive one. People are so passionate and supportive and protective of each other--it can be easy to see it overwhelming and triggering to anxieties (as I know a massive amount to us has) but I honestly see more good in it than anything negative. I also love seeing the wave of soft and fluffy content coming out and the content of dark/sith/top Luke (even if it’s not for me) because I see that as more for more people.
Honestly, I could go on a bit about everything--my first response was nearly 3k words as I panic and just want to explain and reach out and try to avoid hurting anyone if possible. I still don’t know, and I worry, that my thoughts and everything will be understood. But with help got it cut down in hopes that it helps answer the questions you provided, anon. I don’t know if it helped or cleared anything but I hope it did some.

20 Questions
Based on this request: Can you do a Ketch x Reader where they are stuck in a room during a hunt and they can’t get out so they play 20 questions to get to know each other better and in the end confess their feelings for each other
Here you are, lovelies! *I do not own ANY SPN characters. They belong to the writers/creators of the show.*
Warnings: Trapped Together, fluff-ish?
Pairings: Arthur Ketch x reader
Tumblr media
It was a good thing you didn't hate Ketch. Really it was. Because if you'd hated him, he wouldn't survive the night. He was driving you batty, pacing like a caged tiger. You understood why. You didn't much appreciate being trapped either, but it was that or become a monster's plaything. At least you'd been able to get into a place where you could ward against everything and the horde of demons couldn't get in.
"Ketch! Please just sit down, you're driving me nuts!" He paused long enough to glare at you before resuming his pacing. He didn't like being stuck in one space for too long. That much was obvious. Not to mention you were both exhausted from the hunt followed by the demon chase. They'd come out of nowhere after the two of you had taken out a vampire nest.
"Please. I know you're anxious to get out of here, but could you please settle down? We're safe in here for now and I called the boys. They're sending Jody and Donna to come help us." Ketch hummed before finally sitting in the only other chair in the room. It was then that you noticed the injury to his arm. "Were you bitten?" He shook his head. "No. That was from one of the demons." You hummed in response and then it got quiet again. Normally that didn't bother you, but stuck in one tiny room, the silence was almost stifling.
"Alright, rather than sitting here doing nothing, I think we should get to know each other better. If we're going to be hunting together more often, we may as well." Ketch's eyes flickered over to you for a moment before he asked, "What did you have in mind?" You felt a smile stretch over your lips. At least he was willing. You were certain you were going to have to practically pull teeth to get him to talk. From what you'd seen, Ketch was a pretty closed off man. Not that you blamed him after what he'd gone through.
"20 Questions. It's the easiest way I can think of." Ketch nodded once, his eyes regarding you as you shifted to try and get more comfortable. "Are you going to sit or stand there all night?" He arched a brow at your teasing tone. "Is that one of your questions? I must say, I expected more from you." You rolled your eyes and gave a sarcastic laugh. "Haha. Jokes. Who knew you had it in you? Now rules: once the game starts it doesn't stop until we've both asked 20 questions. The questions can be anything from the most simple to the most deep that require thought. And we must answer truthfully. Ready?" At Ketch's nod, you proceeded to start the game.
"I'll start with a basic question. Favorite color?" A small smirk made its way onto Ketch's lips as he shook his head at you. "Purple." You let out a small noise of surprise. "I would have suspected red or black." It was Ketch's turn to roll his eyes as he replied, "Purple is the color of royalty, darling. Now, I believe it's my turn. What would you be doing if you weren't a hunter?" You laughed lightly and had a feeling it was going to be a long night.
*time skip*
You and Ketch had spent what felt like hours asking questions back and forth. Not that you minded. It was nice getting an inside look into his mind. Although, your heart hurt for all the torture he'd gone through as a child and into his adulthood. By the time you got to the last round of questions, you wanted nothing more than to wrap the man up in a hug. Unfortunately, you were also at your last question.
You glance up into Ketch's eyes and asked the question you'd been avoiding. You weren't sure how he'd react in all honesty, but you were running out of questions at the moment. "Have you ever been in love?" Ketch's small smile faltered a bit. His brows lowered over his eyes as he tried to think. His gaze flickered over to you then back toward the door. For a moment, it didn't look like he was going to answer the question.
"Perhaps." It was your turn to look confused, prompting him to sigh. "Love is considered a…weakness in Kendrick's. It isn't something encouraged. That being said, I am uncertain as to what love feels like. It is possible I've been in love without realizing." His eyes met your again and you swore they were boring into your soul. You swallowed thickly, suddenly feeling the air in the room thicken with the tension he was causing.
"My last question then, is it?" he asked suddenly. The moment between you was broken in an instant. You nodded. You honestly thought you were going to get whiplash at the pace he changed the subject. Ketch stood and placed one hand in his pocket. You'd been around him long enough to know he only did that when he was grabbing a weapon or feeling unsure of himself. No one else had noticed it. They just thought it was a normal mannerism of his.
His eyes met yours again and he asked, "Do you think, after all I've done for the old men, that someone could love me? Help me have the happiness everyone around me seems to desire so much…Could you?" You blinked in surprise. That was not the question you were expecting. Ketch was very, very good at masking his feelings. There were rarely any signs of vulnerability in the man, though you were able to catch them here and there. Your mind was in a state of confusion so you said the first thing you could think of.
"That's two questions." Ketch scoffed lightly, but looked away from you. Even from his profile you could tell he was upset. You rose from your seat and closed the space between you. He turned his head so he could look at you once more. Without taking your eyes off his, you gently took the hand that wasn't in his pocket in your hand. "Truth?" you asked and he nodded. "Those were the rules after all, were they not?"
"I do. I know someone could love you. Someone doeslove you, Ke-Arthur." The only sign that Ketch was caught off guard was the slight tightening of his hand around yours. "Really?" he asked, disbelief lacing his voice. You never heard him sound so insecure before. It was odd. Still, you smiled. "Really." Your free hand moved up to cup his cheek.
You felt your heart hammering in your chest as a smirk replaced his look of disbelief. "I thought so. The sentiment is returned, darling." You wanted to be mad at him. He'd gotten you to admit something that you were petrified to admit. Still, with him so close, it was hard to think about anything other than having him as close as possible.
Just as Ketch's lips were about to meet yours, the doors burst open. The two of you sprang apart like two teenagers being caught making out on the parent's couch. "Oh, um…carry on," Donna's voice came from the doorway. She ushered Jody out, saying, "Nothing to see here, Jody. Move along." You felt your face heat up as Ketch let out a laugh, prompting you to do the same. You knew you'd never hear the end of this from Jody. Ketch took your hand again, placing a kiss to the back of it, before leading you out to the car.
(a/n: I hope you liked it!)

Why c!Dream should (and probably will be) redeemed
Hi! I’m bad with intros. You’ve read the title, so, let’s start with the definitions.
In this essay, we are considering the popularized definition of “redemption” instead of the classical one, which is, as per the Oxford Dictionary, “the act of saving or state of being saved from the power of evil; the act of redeeming.” That’s not however the way the word is used in fandom and media.
/dsmp /rp
The definition of redemption I’ll be working with in this essay is not forgiveness by the people who c!Dream has hurt, nor is it removing himself entirely from his past actions, but moreso the decision to change for the better and abandon destructive mindsets for himself and others.
A “redemption” in a narrative sense would be circumstances and a character arc that would allow that kind of healing and betterment.
I’d like to start this off by the fact that being “irredeemable”, in this sense, also doesn’t exist; redemption is a thing of conditions and choice, not of being allowed by someone else. You can’t gatekeep healing from people who seek it, just to be clear, and that even goes for people who have done terrible things.
Since I understand there is a lot of concern for c!Dream’s past actions, here is a post from people who are much more fit than me to speak on the matter, about the way in which they see a possible c!Dream redemption arc.
Another disclaimer, I am not going to be considering c!Dream only from the perspective of c!Tommy in this essay. c!Dream appears in other people’s perspectives and he himself has his own, unseen perspective. As a character, he is an individual person in his own right rather than just the antagonist of c!Tommy’s story, and so I do not have much concern for their narratives intertwining too much should this writing choice occur.
I’d also like to note that redemption is, in this sense, always a positive thing for everyone involved - someone who’s been prone to doing bad things in the past deciding not to do them anymore and try to change, or just simply heal enough to consider it, isn’t going to have a long-term negative effect in any of the characters, but rather the other way around. Healing is an unlimited resource, and the victims do not have to heal first for the person who hurt them to consider being better.
Here’s a well-written thread on Twitter that elaborates a bit to finish off this point, and let’s move on to actually talking about redemption in the context of the Dream SMP, and c!Dream specifically.
Why a c!Dream redemption arc is not only a good writing choice, but in this case the only good writing choice;
c!Dream, as we all know, has been subject to mental and physical abuse to the point of straight up torture by both c!Sam and c!Quackity (to different extents). He has been in indescribable amounts of suffering for the past 74 days at the time this essay will be published. That is six and something times the duration of the entire exile arc in canon.
Whatever the interpretation of his words in prison is, what is undeniable is first of all the fact his mental stability is absolutely crushed at this point, second that no human being could possibly ever deserve to undergo this, and third, his stay in the prison is showing off his humanity and making him out to be sympathetic.
Now, consider this; how would it feel if c!Tommy died at the end of the exile arc? Empty, there would be no catharsis to such an end, especially because of all of the hurt he’d gone through. Objectively, a bad writing choice.
Let’s compare, narratively of course, this situation to the prison arc. Even though I would never say one of them is “better” or “worse” than the other, since both are terrible and undeserved, c!Dream’s current state checks off all of the boxes that would make his death unsatisfying in the storyline; even if people want him gone, there would still be the dissatisfaction at the current build-up and why they even did it in the first place (it really wasn’t necessary to anyone else’s story to make him out as a victim, and yet they did) if they were planning to kill him off anyways. And since the prison arc is naturally meant to induce sympathy, even from an angst perspective it would simply not make sense within the themes and writing of the plot.
So, c!Dream can’t die, and he also can’t stay in the prison forever - the build-up must lead to something, which is logically a breakout. Great… what now?
Well, the Dream SMP prides itself in accurate representation of trauma and mental instability, specifically cc!Tommy and cc!Dream who have pulled it off incredibly during the exile arc.
Now, undoubtedly, after the prison, c!Dream is going to be just terribly traumatized- considering the writers’ past creative decisions, would it make sense for him to play the role of a dangerous, heartless villain in other people’s stories, while completely ignoring the logical fallout of what he’s been through?
In my mind, no. The most possible result is that cc!Dream is going to rightfully portray someone who’s been hurt so much he is broken, scared and tortured into submissions over months of agony and slowly stripping away of his agency, his dignity, his humanity. And that is… not going to be pretty, nor is he going to be in any way the same as before.
After everything, I’d be surprised if he can properly look at shears without shaking. That’s not villain behaviour, that’s the behaviour of someone who needs help.
Which leads me to another point, which is relatability. Believe me or not, there are people out there who heavily relate to c!Dream because they have been through things that allow them to see themselves in the character - abandonment, mental illness, etc. - or who have had destructive mindsets they have struggled to let go of in the past.
To them, as well as to the viewer, redeeming c!Dream could actually be a very good example, showcasing that anyone who has done bad things or has been hurt in the past can learn that it is possible to be better, to move on, to not be stuck in a loop but to actively seek help and then use that support to find the path to healing.
Making c!Dream a better person, who in a way, wins over his past, over his trauma, over the hurt he’s caused, and manages to actually get better… is inspiring, in a sense. It shows that you can abandon unhealthy mindsets, you can find a support group of people who care about you, you can make your life better simply by deciding to be better and then sticking to that, no matter how difficult the process.
This is why I believe that redeeming c!Dream would not be bad writing, but quite the opposite, and that the prison arc is an obvious set-up. Alright, but how does that work with the character? How could someone so widely hated mentally improve in such a seemingly violent and terrible environment? Would it even make sense within the context of c!Dream’s character so far? Well,
Why c!Dream has the capacity for healing and the Dream SMP the ability to provide it;
First of all, let’s remind ourselves that through c!Dream’s entire spiral he wasn’t ever directly given a chance to change. He was regarded as someone to defeat in order to accomplish a happy ending, or as someone who needed to be removed in order to achieve power on the SMP. Ever since the 16th, which is when the corruption of the character is the most obvious, there have been no attempts to reach out or to help him. I do not blame the characters for this - I am simply pointing out that since it has never happened before, we do not know how he would respond, and that, after everything he’s been through, any bit of kindness or compassion towards him will be a new concept he will have to learn to deal with somehow.
This point is especially driven home by the fact that both c!Quackity and c!Sam would often tell him he is a monster who deserves nothing but to suffer, and that what he’s going through is never going to amount to all the hurt he’s caused - basically removing any possibility for ever getting better (because by this logic, he doesn’t deserve support, and he doesn’t deserve to get better) from his line of sight.
He also hasn’t had a support system since shortly after the 16th, when his friends left him over c!George’s dethronement and made no effort to mend their relationship afterwards. c!Dream isn’t used to having allies and people on his side, but to being hated; again, wouldn’t that mean positive reinforcement could very well be all he needs to make the choice?
His bad mindsets - attachments are weakness, ends always justify the means, people will consider you a bad person no matter what you do - have been continuously proven right by his environment, even in prison. Any kind of subversion, plus an explanation as to why they are wrong, could be of great help to c!Dream.
Just another disclaimer; I do not believe c!Dream would change thanks to the treatment in prison, but rather despite it. His mental stability is non-existent at that point, and in order to get better he needs genuine emotional support from the people around him as well as to heal before he can redeem himself.
Alright, but… c!Dream has hurt a lot of people. Who would be fit to help him?
Let’s start off with the worst option and why it’s impossible the writers would even attempt this; c!Tommy.
c!Tommy has no responsibility to help or ever forgive c!Dream - not to say he could. The two, as it is, would drag each other down instead of helping in any capacity, and only make matters worse. The two of them shouldn’t even interact in the best case scenario - the best thing for both of them would be if they got enough healing and support individually that they could live around each other and not get their trauma or toxic habits triggered when interacting for whatever purpose of the plot.
So, if not c!Tommy (and c!Tubbo neither by extension), who could redeem c!Dream?
Well, he can’t do it on his own for sure. Being in nature with animals is nice, but further isolation from other people would merely help with the prison trauma, not with the state of his tendencies when interacting with others. He, once again, needs positive reinforcement from other people for him to heal properly.
There are two main options for this in my mind, and then there’s a few individuals he could also find comfort in, including people from both groups or those unaligned.
1) Kinoko Kingdom
From the people of this new country, c!Dream has never negatively interacted with c!Karl before, he has never hurt c!George and he hasn’t directly harmed c!Sapnap. Although the relationship with his old friend group could be difficult to rekindle, none of them have grudges against him that are too personal, and they have been canonically close friends since the beginning of the SMP, so it would be very much possible to rebuild burnt bridges. They’d be familiar, and with the addition of c!Karl they could be a good source of comfort for c!Dream after he either breaks out or is released from prison - just gotta convince c!Sapnap not to kill him first.
2) The Syndicate
From the Syndicate, c!Dream has never directly interacted with c!Nikki, and from what I know of her character she never seemed to be very affected by his actions - even doing his work for him when he was planning to burn down the L’Mantree. c!Techno is an ally who doesn’t have anything against him, and as for c!Ranboo, here is why I believe c!Dream being in the Syndicate could be positively influential on his character arc as well;
c!Ranboo and c!Philza have had a conversation about change, during which c!Ranboo made it clear he thinks everyone can change except for c!Dream; who, in his mind, is “too deep down the rabbit hole”. c!Philza replied that he thinks anyone can change if given enough time.
… you see what I’m getting at?
c!Dream has been implied to be an ally to c!Ranboo’s enderwalk state (or the state when he has access to his full memory), and hence would most likely not behave negatively towards him at all. While it might make it more difficult for c!Ranboo to deal with his own issues, it might also give him more motivation to get to the bottom of it as well, especially since he now has access to the person who, presumably, started this all. While this is going on, c!Dream would show himself in a much different light than c!Ranboo sees himin, which could lead to confusion, realization of the flaws in his own logic, and hence, positive character development.
Here’s a great post about why c!Techno as a character could be a great asset in c!Dream’s healing process & redemption, and why there is not much need to worry about him not knowing or finding out about c!Dream’s actions.
Of Kinoko Kingdom and the Syndicate, as far as I know, neither c!Tommy nor c!Tubbo have ever been directly involved with these groups, nor are they planning to.
Another important point to make is that, while c!Tommy needs to be kept away from c!Dream in order to heal properly, the same goes for c!Quackity and c!Sam in c!Dream’s case. While c!Quackity has high chances to interact with either Kinoko Kingdom or the Syndicate in the future, there’s an even higher chance, in that situation, that c!Dream would be offered protection, which is also important; there is no healing from trauma without the knowledge of safety, to some degree.
So, this was an essay as to why I think c!Dream’s recovery and redemption (one needs to come before the other, naturally) is not only extremely possible but also could be pulled off well and have a positive impact on both the characters, and the audience.

Finished Tiny Pretty Things and I was extremely disappointed.
Rape - TW
What is up with writers adding rape into a show like it’s spice and not addressing it? This is the second show I’ve watched that did that.
“No” means no!
And Shane sounding so predatory by saying that Oren liked it, shoving his hands in his pants after he Oren said he wanted to stop like wtf?!
Tf is wrong with people! And ofc they make their gay rep a rapist 🤮 so many stereotypes
Neveah (Race Baiting)
They promoted the show as Neveah being the female lead who was defying things. Damn near every clip was of her dancing. Then what actually happens is they give her all these stereotypes, pushes her whole storyline to the side, and she barely dances...
This reminds me of what John Boyega had said about promoting black people as important but then not treating them as such in the actual storylines.
They did gave her the regular backstory, you know the trauma porn that they love giving black characters. They don’t even wrap up her storyline with her family. They just disappear.
I wanted to see her perform and become the best but all we get is an angry mammy.
Did the white writers really think that would resonate with black viewers? Or was their goal to enforce stereotypes for non black people?
Do they think the only life black people can live is one without their parents and can only get things because white people need a sob story? It was giving Dance monkey dance.
Then Neveah and Oren being pushed together with no build up? Seriously? They really did not give a fuck about her character. The actors had great chemistry, which honestly saved them for me, but they didn’t write for them.
Pedophilla
Stop. Just stop. Writers please! Stop!
All the adults were predators.
I’m happy that Caleb’s relationship with DuBois was addressed. Her saying that Caleb would hate her for doing what she did, regardless if he consented. I’m happy about this because often times this side of the story isn’t told. The story of children looking back on a relationship that they thought they wanted only to realize that the adult had manipulated them.
But then why tf are we supposed to shipping Shane and Dev? I like them together I do. But at the same time, I’m creeped out because Dev is a aware that Shane is a teenager. It’s weird! He is a pedophile!!!
Islamophobia
The fact that Nabil doesn’t get an apology from Caleb after all the bs he put him through because of his religion, but they’re “besties” now 🤮
The shit that’s just brushed under the rug in this show.
They made sure Shane got his apology from Matteo, but not one for Nabil??
White Favoritism
You could tell the writers favored Bette & Cassie which was disgusting because they spent the entire promotion portraying Neveah as the focus.
Out of all the characters the girl in the damn coma and another one, who wasn’t the female lead, had the fleshed out story’s 🙄
They didn’t give a fuck about June’s half assed relationship with Nabil or Neveah and Oren’s, but gave Bette and Matteo so much writing???
They wrote more for Shane and Oren, Bette and Oren, Bette and Ramon, Ramon and Delia more than they did for the WOC. It’s fucked!
They did give June a good backstory, but of course she was constantly at Bette’s side because she’s just a Angel 😇 (not serious) and criminalized the black woman who had June’s back. So fucked.
Then the forced relationship between Bette, June and Neveah. No one ever apologized to Neveah she just forgave everyone and wanted to solve all their problems like the good Mammy she is 🙄
Also Neveah going to visit Cassie???? That didn’t even make any sense. They didn’t know about each other yet she was dreaming of her before she met her???? Gotta squeeze the white girl’s storylines in. Forgo how much sense it makes for the black lead. Who cares about her character? Am I right? :)))
Then also having Nabil worship Cassie who didn’t even treat him right 🤮🤮
Conclusion
I’m saying all these things because I want better. This show really fucked over Neveah.
And shown extreme amount of White Favoritism the entire time.
Constantly, showing the white characters as saints and all the awful shit they do is address for two seconds with no repercussions and not writing for the black woman other than when she’s saving the white characters.
I hope they learn from this and do better. I want a season 2 for Neveah so they can write for her.

This Week in BL
March 2021 Part 4
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
This is a LONG ONE, it’s been A WEEK everyone.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Lovely Writer Ep 5 - a little slow this week, but at least Gene finally flirted back, and very cute flirting it was, too. Also we got Aey’s motivation, background, and love interest. Thank goodness for that.
Brothers Ep 8 - still pants, what can I say? Clearly I am a BL masochist. Very embarrassing for everyone concerned.
1000 Stars Ep 9 - the conflict over Tian’s father was REALLY well done. The plot of this drama is excellent, the leads are great together, and yes I totally cried. What, you didn’t?
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Word of Honor (China) Ep 16-18 - big battle fighty fighty stabby stabby. Ep 17 switches to “this drama isn’t big enough for two chaotic-neutral godlings!” So what do they do? Drink together and bicker... A LOT. Then in Ep 18 we all get the dubious joy of really freaky puppets. (I HATE puppets.) Also how is China letting this be so SO VERY VERY GAY?  Also, I wanna walk through the forest wearing a smanshy purple robe and waving a big fuck-off white fan around simply because I’m a pretentious fuss monger. And frankly, I feel like this is an achievable life goal for me.
We Best Love 2 (Taiwan) Ep 4 - not gonna lie, this is looking to be one of my top 3 BLs of 2021. It’s SO GOOD. Big bonus to this ep for treating stalker behavior like the mental illness it is and not as some dumb representation of enduring love.
The Most Peaceful Place is My Place (Vietnam) Ep 1 - finally dropped (find it under NƠI BÌNH YÊN NHẤT LÀ VỀ BÊN EM on O2′s channel). It’s got actors already comfortable with BL and looks pretty good so far. An angry tsundere uke reunited with his ex, a stoic chef, giving us lots of snap, crackle, and pop out the gate.
Dear Uranus (Taiwan GL) Ep 2 - I want to love it, but it is just moving too fast. There’s not enough character dev and then they’re throwing flashbacks in? It feels like a treatment rather than a show, and a rushed treatment at that. Bummer.
HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 2 (AKA Ep 3-4) - let the cheesy popcorn continue! Idiot remains an idiot; ingenue remains an ice queen; nice gay guy remains nice and gay; obsessive stalker brother is getting ever more whackadoddle. Of course these last two have the best chemistry. (It’s caregiver codependency and the salvation trope. We got us a Leo/Fiat situation going on.) Plus lots of classic BL tropes because OF COURSE there are lots of tropes.
Occasionally, I am tempted to argue that shows like H4 or Cherry Magic or Ossan’s Love aren’t technically BL because of the office setting and age of the protags - but then they all behave like high school students anyway, so *shrug*
Tumblr media
Stand Alones
Cute little Taiwanese micro BL Friend or Lover dropped, about bisexual realization within a friendship group. Normally these are too short for me, but this one did pretty good with its 15 minutes of charm, plus it’s abad boy + shy softy pairing.
Tumblr media
Breaking News - Thai BL
Fish Upon the Sky released its actual trailer. The upside-down kiss is gone, which makes everyone sad, and it seems far less rivals to lovers than the first iteration, which makes ME sad. But it still looks good and a more classic BL than GMMTV has given us in a while. New trailer focused more on the makeover trope and they’ve upped Mix’s role (the object of everyone’s affection) now that he’s proved himself. (Or they are using him more to carry the trailer since he has a fan base form 1k*). Starts April 9 on GMMTV in 1K*’s time slot, probably with a 10 ep run.
2gether the movie is apparently coming April 22 to Thai theaters. F4 Thailand must be having issues or GMMTV just wants to milk the BrightWin cash cow. It’s rumored to be a combination of 2gehter + Still 2gether with some extra scenes and ending. Also, one assumes a lot will be cut out, if it’s movie length.
Call It What You Want released its updated trailer. If anything, it looks more scary than before. What are we in for? April 9th.
Nitiman got a release date, May 7 on One31.
I Told Sunset About You 2 got an updated release date of May 27 on LineTV.
Second Chance the series is coming to LineTV on March 29. I don’t know much about this one. Tons of familiar faces (mostly TharnType side dishes) and some nice looking new talent but a dearth of eng subs. I think it may take on Brothers’ time slot. Line did eng subs for Brothers so maybe they will do 2nd Chance too?
Close Friend the series is coming April 22. This is a combination of 6 couples with 6 story arcs as music videos (maybe)? It’s an epic fan service with familiar faces like OhmFluke (UWMA), MaxNat (LBC also in Y-Destiny), YoonLay (YYY also in Y-Destiny), KimCop (GenY), and JaFirst (TT2).
Y-Destiny starts March 30, and has starting dropping couple’s trailers. I’m still suspicious given the director but it seems like there is plot (or plots) and a theme. Looks to be a series of 7 single ep vignettes (amended, see comments, might be 2 eps each for 14 eps total), different couple each time, some with supernatural elements, all with decent chemistry and acting chops.
Sun MaxNat’s tutor/student arc
Mon jaded rich kid meets poor innocent
Tues sports romance enemies to lovers
Weds the messy realistic actual dating one
Thurs hot ghost boyfriend (sad)
Fri YoonLayPerth coping with loss and finding new love (sad). This one will all rest on Lay's acting so we know it’s in safe hands. Our boy is going to KILL it.
Sat time-slip memory loss reunion romance
I’m thinking we can’t expect any of these to end happy or be classic BL. They’re gonna be more slice of life-ish.
Tumblr media
Gossip - BL Outside of Thailand
Scholar Ryu’s Wedding Ceremony AKA Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korean historical BL) got a legit teaser (eng sub here). @curriculumvtae reports that it’s releasing April 15th on WeTV (Philippines & Thailand) and Idol Romance (South Korea), while Will of Thai Bl says it’ll be on Viki too. It’s a short run of 8 ep built on a fake relationship trope (arranged marriage variant):
Ryu Ho Seon’s (Kang In Soo from You Wish) arranged marriage turns out to be with his expected bride’s brother, Choi Ki Wan (Lee Se Jin from Mr Heart). Ryu tries to undo the marriage, but his ill mother opposes this saying the scandal would be too much. Meanwhile, Kim Tae Hyeong (Jang Eui Soo from Where Your Eyes Linger), a senior at Ryu’s school, comes to congratulate him and falls in love with Choi. Then one day, the original bride disappears.
Okay it seems a bit twisty turny for ONLY 8 EPS, but oh my goodness how excited are we? Our first intentional historical BL out of Korea!
Tumblr media
We already knew Hong Kong was doing a remake of Japan’s Ossan’s Love under the same name (not my favorite Japanese BL but so very popular) but it’s now reported to be coming to Viu in June. Who knows how the CFA will take it. Depends on whether Hong Kong bows before the NO GAY KISSES regs or if they are going to use this as a political nose thumb... things could get cray with this puppy (the original has several kisses and s shower scene). Are we back in Addicted territory only with added comedy and civil unrest?
Speaking of Japan, Absolute BL (AKA Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai vs Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko) dropped sooner than anyone thought, March 27. But being Japanese who knows how/when/if we get subs. Protag finds himself trapped in a world of BL, but being straight he fights against any hot guy that draws near, but the whole world (literally) is conspiring against him. It’s a parody adapted from a yoai.
What with Absolute BL from Japan plus Lovely Writer and Call it What You Want from Thailand, is 2021 the year of BL being ultra self referential? Sure feels like it.
Tumblr media
In Case You Missed It
Faded a gay micro film from Taiwan from 2017 deals with parental acceptance and serves up a ton of BL tropes (piggyback, forehead kiss, etc). I’m pretty sure this was a propaganda piece for legalization of gay marriage, and it’s an interesting nugget of BL history as a result. Yes, it ends happy. It’s cute.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Some shows may be listed a day later than actual air date for accessibility reasons.
Tumblr media
Upcoming 2021 BL master post here.
Links to watch are provided when possible, ask in a comment if I missed something.
Man there’s a lot going on right now! Spring has sprung... I suppose.
Tumblr media
P.S. I cannot believe I missed Absolute BL as a blog name. Numbnuts = me.

She Got The Looks That Kill!
Warnings: Mentions of Drugs. Drug use. Language. Smut. Alcohol.  don’t read if you don’t like these kinds of things.  Be strong and laugh ANNNDD!  SHOUT AT THE DEVIL  1982  It was the year Motley had made their debut album Too Fast For Love. They were already a hit. Selling out their shows and merch pretty fast. The boys got their names around pretty quickly. Nikki was already writing songs for their next album, due to come out the next year. He was busy, writing in his journal when Mick popped in with a red-headed woman. Tommy looked from his drum set and smiled. Vince looked over and smirked. “Well, I be damn. Mick you got yourself a vixen?” The blonde asked. The goth guitarist glared at the blonde, who was wearing pink lipstick. “No.... This... is my sister, Lucey.” He was hesitant but stayed VERY close to her. Especially when she was close to Vince.   The blonde chuckled and went up to her, “I’m Vince. I’m the lead singer of the band.” He stuck his hand out. Lucey nodded and shook his hand. Tommy quickly made his way over. “I’m Tommy Lee! I’m the drummer!” The young 20 year old said in a very excited tone. His curly hair bounced a bit as he nodded his head softly. Lastly, Nikki went over. “And I’m Nikki. I founded the band. The four of us fuckers formed the band together. Your brother came up with the name.” He chuckled. “Yeah, I told her all about you fuckers.” Mick spoke up. “Why hadn’t you introduced us to Lucey before hand?” Vince asked. “I know you fuckers would totally want to touch my sister. As much as I love her. And she loves me, I don’t want anything happening to her. Such as heartbreak.” Mick crossed his arms. Vince rose a brow and placed a hand on his hip, “And who would break her fuckin’ heart?” Mick rolled his blue eyes. “One of you fuckers. You would date her, knock her up. As soon as she gets pregnant, you’ll leave her ass for a hotter chick. That you would end up fucking regardless you got Lucey pregnant or not.” He huffed. Tommy pouted, “Hey! I would never cheat on the woman I am with. Especially if she’s carrying my kid. I’m a hopeless romantic. I would never break Lucey’s heart if she were to be my girl.” He then smiled. Nikki nodded softly, his fluffy black hair bouncing a bit, “And I don’t cheat on a girl I’m being serious with. I wouldn’t break her heart.” He hummed. Vince chuckled, “And well... a girl I’m really in love with, I’ll be loyal.” He shrugged. Mick laughed, “Yeah okay.” He didn’t believe the singer. Vince flipped him off and looked at Lucey.  “So, do you work-?” He asked. “At the pizza shop in my hometown, but my boss is a total dick.” She whined softly. Nikki chuckled, “Ah, I’m sorry. Can you get a better job?” He asked. “I am not really good at anything.. Maybe writing but no body would want to actually read my books.” She hummed. “I’d totally read your books!” Both of the Terror Twins said in unison. Then they looked at each other, exchanging smiles. “Are you single?” Tommy asked with a soft smirk, causing Mick to glare. “Mhm....” She nodded. Tommy snorted, “Killer...” Mick hissed, “Don’t get any ideas, drummer!” He warned. “Man, she’s a grown woman. . . Let her make her own choices.” Vince spoke up. Mick blinked, “I am. But I wouldn’t want one of you jackasses to date my sister.” He huffed.  “Well, I am 22.” She nodded. “Aww. young like Tommy! Only two years older than him and two years younger than Nikki... Funny.” Vince laughed softly and reached to ruffle her red curls. Mick looked at the boys. “Anyway, what’s new with you assholes?” He asked. “Nothin’. Waiting on Sixx to write new material for the new album.” Vince said. “What about you, Drummer?” Mick asked. Tommy shrugged, “Hanging out with Nik.” He said. “And I was just writing some new songs.” Nikki picked up his notebook. “Killer, man! Let’s see what you got!” Tommy walked up next to Nikki. He leaned over to look at the paper. Nikki laughed, “Nothing... much..” Vince then walked up to him as Nikki said that. “Shout at the devil? Nice. That’ll get people’s attention! Let me see those lyrics!” He reached for the piece of paper that had half of Shout At The Devil song written on it. “Sure man, it’s not finished-” Nikki blinked and handing it to the blonde.  “Fuck it. Let’s see how this fucker sounds!” Vince started to read the first verse. While he was doing that, Tommy looked at Nikki, “Did you write anymore?” He asked. “No... I was just got started with that one. Okay maybe I wrote a little bit on the others but... not much...” Nikki rubbed his arms. Mick walked over to the twins. “Really?” He rose his brow. “We got a whole other half of the year, Mars. Give me a bit of time and I’ll get you those songs.” Nikki smirked. He looked over at Lucey who was sitting down on the couch. Tommy started to chat with Mick. Good. A distraction. Nikki hurried his way towards Lucey, without making it obvious. He flopped his ass down on the couch, next to the red head. She whipped her head and saw Nikki.  “Tell me a bit more about yourself.” He was ready to listen to whatever she had to say. “Well... I’m trying to be a really good writer. I have no story to go by.. Only about my life so far.” She twirled her hair. “Yeah? One day I’ll be in that story... Erm, maybe.” He smirked with a little laugh. She giggled softly. “One day. I live in a shit-hole apartment with a puppy named Cleopatra.” She said. “Awwh!!! I love dogs!  Expect for German Shepards... But what kind of dog is Cleo?” He asked. “A Black lab. She’s a few months.” She said. Nikki smiled. But then he looked around. “Say, lets take this conversation to my room.” Since they were at the Motley House, Mick brought her to. Lucey shrugged and nodded. She followed Nikki towards his room. He shut and the door once both of them were in. He sat down on the bed with her.  He looked at her. She wore knee-high boots with a black skirt and a dark purple tang top. Her hair was down, it was just at her shoulders, a few inches longer. She had a beautiful set of blue-eyes and wore bright red lipstick. Nikki’s green eyes sparkled. He never laid his eyes on upon such a beautiful woman. He had to make her his. He placed his hand on her thigh. She looked at him with a soft blush. “Nikki? What are you doing?” She asked. “Well, do you want to something... fun?” He smirked at her. “Yeah... Uhm, but we have to be quiet so Mick doesn’t come in here and kick your ass.” She said, “I know. You stay quiet.” He smirked once more. Lucey smiled softly. Nikki leaned forward and kissed her on the lips softly. She returned the kiss, deepening it. She wrapped her arms around his neck. The two proceeded to make out for a bit before Nikki pulled away. He got up and took off his boots first. Then he started to strip. Lucey proceeded to do the same. Then once they were fully naked, they sat down next to each other.  -- Skipping the smut since I wrote too many in the past and I don’t feel like writing out a whole new one at the moment. Might add one here and there but meh. --  After the two had their scene of fun, the two had messy hair and smelled like sex. Lucey placed her clothes and boots back on. Nikki did the same. He opened the door and let her out first, following behind her. Mick looked at the two and rose a brow. He didn’t question it. At all. Tommy smirked and snorted, already knowing what they did. Vince... he wasn’t paying attention at all.  Nikki looked at Lucey, and whispered in her ear. “Tomorrow I’m picking you up and taking you out on your first date.” He said. She nodded and smiled softly. He kissed her cheek quickly and went over to Vince. Tommy looked at Lucey, giving her a soft smile before going to the other two. Mick blinked, “Ready to go home...?” He asked. She nodded. Though when Mick wasn’t looking, she slipped her phone number into Nikki’s phone book. Then she got up and left with Mick.

passstt can you do your best to explain the ‘universe’ in depth or at least so it’s understandable bc my ass is clueless 🙃
so, this is my dumb brain linking stuff so please please take this all as what it is — my stupid brain's stupid thinking. this is also the first time i've linked it all out in order. so bear with me. this is loooong. in this universe, we have like three parts: mixtape: on track — b me — mixtape: oh. and it deals with tangled romance and the consequences it has on friendships.
MIXTAPE: ON TRACK
so in mixtape: on track, the universe sets off with the boys in high school, final year, i think. minho and hyunjin are the leads in our whole universe. jeongin is like hyunjin's best friend in this au. they are film and art majors (?) and have this project i presume to make a short film (?). chan deals with the sound, jisung with the lights, changbin with the props, hyunjin with the videography, felix is directing and seungmin is the writer. minho is the main lead in this film and jeongin is a side character in this film.
insert female lead. female lead is close friends with both hyunjin and minho. it's pretty evident that minho and hyunjin likes her and hyunjin constantly does feel bad over minho and her getting closer, because well, he likes her. this feeling turns into a distaste soon enough (as seen in how hyunjin feels pathetic after the girl takes both the drinks from them + how minho shoots the goal while playing soccer and like hyunjin and minho have this weird cold gaze exchange. in both these situations, jeongin is around to help hyunjin. i'll get to this soon.) so like our boy minho and her clearly have sparks and hyunjin dislikes it. high school jealousy, if anything.
that's when hyunjin decides to take action and while shooting, when minho has to grab the female lead's hand, he butts in and holds her hand. all because he likes her and he's done being the second lead in this story. the mv ends here.
now, about jeongin, he did mention in one of his vlive that he was like a guardian angel and i do think he's like a friend that really really cares for hyunjin and doesn't ever want him to get hurt. so the whole mv wraps up in this plot of how hyunjin takes action right when minho and the female lead are slowly getting things going for them.
UNVEIL: B ME
and then we get the unveil track of b me, (how i wish they dropped the mv for this rather!). i'll make a list of stuff that happens in b me first and then tell you how my brain linked it up.
felix with the video camera + tape
jeongin distressed with bruised face
the members reminiscing what they once had before chaos struck.
a script that has even a fool knows (alternative title to on track) written (this was my cue to link them both?)
seungmin, chan and technically the whole cast looking distressed
jisung burning the film competition form (?)
changbin in the court sad and playing alone
biker!minho + biker!hyunjin (THIS ISN'T A POINT BUT THEY ARE SO HOT IN THIS AU SHUT UP RUE!!!)
minho meets with an accident + jisung rushes to his side
angry giving up skz moments
ot8 basketball happy memories
i'm going to sit here and draft this out so again, bear with me, soooo,
i presume the hyunjin grabbing the girl's hand, ofc, did not sit right with minho because technically, minho and her were a thing almost. and that ruined the friendship. this also caused the whole film shooting to turn chaotic, i presume because hyunjin's gaze in the on track mv seemed determined so i think he wasn't ready to back off either. the filming team clearly breaks apart because of this. the tension between minho and hyunjin is still very high. the team is frustrated. jisung burns the film competition form because what's the use of joining when there's no team? changbin is sad and angry and has emotions he is frustrated over (just like the other members!!) because they aren't together as a friend circle distinctly because of the feud between hyunjin and minho. they used to play basketball together (the whole of the ending part!) but not anymore.
now, we see how minho meets with an accident. i'm a bit confused with this part (this is why we need the mv for b me, jyp!!!!) but i'll state out everything i think.
a) jisung is to minho as to what jeongin is to hyunjin.
b) the accident could be solely accidental? maybe minho ran off in a fit after an argument with jeongin and hence why jeongin has the bruises and maybe in that heat, minho could have had the accident.
c) i presume jisung rushes to help him because human guardian angel of sorts of a friendship.
anyhow, i think the small clip of video tape that felix pulls out in the beginning is what they watch together. i do not think this has any correlation to the intense story besides adding the fact that they were reaaaaaaally close because they all look super happy in that shot, omg!!
MIXTAPE: OH
and now here we are, mixtape: oh. (watching and pausing the mv to go as detailed as i can with my storytelling.) this, since it was a mv, we get a story as solid as the first one (thank you, jyp. i hate you generally but thank you for this.)
so we have all the members in the drama club room. the same room we saw in the first mv i think. everyone's gathered back there, picking up their stuff because they have graduated, except for changbin and hyunjin who haven't come. jeongin searches and hopes expectantly for hyunjin to come. the blue certificate kinda thingy (I have no idea what it is. i don't read korean either and my google translate couldn't pick that up :((() is something of hyunjin's and i think minho did want hyunjin to come to this sort of reunion because he gets angry and picks up the blue thingy. he's either mad at that, or he is still mad at what happened in the past. i'm not sure. either ways, jisung is worried too as to what minho is going to do and over what he is feeling. oh, also, minho is in a cast, which means it does go exactly in the order i mentioned !!!
we then see hyunjin (shit, i cried again!) and he's painting an eye (is this a relation with some other skz song i will never know) and i think he took up art after dropping from film club so like he could distance himself from the rest of them, because well, he was 1/2 of the reason why this all happened.
we have the members reminiscing again, thinking about the good times and bad ones too. jeongin is in a tunnel (the boy is always in a tunnel. is this again a link to other mvs i do not know) and changbin goes to the drama club room all alone after everyone leaves and like i think he removed the sign of the drama club room and in my head, it's a symbolism for how everything has finally ended. all the memories they have had had finally ended with their graduation, of sorts, in that moment for him. jeongin, who is in the tunnel calls for hyunjin, like a last thread of hope he clings on to, expecting for him to finally meet them and come back to them. hyunjin doesn't pick up the call.
minho is still packing things up and as he looks through stuff he sees a calender with their anniversary date marked and he remembers of the team together once again. everyone really badly misses the old days. we see jeongin who goes to buy that drink again that he stole from hyunjin in the on track mv and he remembers felix in that moment.
felix who is in the library is with a cake. so i presume it is his birthday because he lights the candle on the cake up eventually. i think he did want to celebrate it with the team as a whole but because of the fall he can't. he opens a book and see the quote, "dreams come true to those who really want them," (we see this on the jisung bus stand shot too btw!!) and he goes on to make a wish on his cake and ie think he wished for them all to be together once again, living the happy memories again. hence the beautiful shots in the end I AM IN LOVE.
so i had this sorta ex lmao who told me this beautiful metaphor once when we broke up about how i left him on the bus of our memories and it was only i who got down and that our timings didn't match. and i think my brain instantly correlated those two, oops. so like the bus is a train of thoughts, a passageway for them to remember the happy memories. changbin remembers the happy memories he had as he looks through hsi phone with the basketball in his hand. jisung also enters the bus and remembers the moments they shared. oh, also changbin leaves when jisung enters. the timings don't match.
TIMESKIP. because this is based off kdramas for sure and what are kdramas without timeskips lmao.
minho's arm is healed. (he's also wearing such a pretty fit i want to steal!) minho goes and tried to meet hyunjin at his art studio because he wants to give it a try, this whole friendship again, i think, but hyunjin isn't there. so he leaves him a note and the certificate (??) blue thingy (?? what is it someone help me!) hyunjin comes back to see them both. this is what happens in the mv, in correlation with the other mvs.
they could clearly make another part of them actually getting together. but personally, i think they do and like felix's wish comes true because the directing is such that they end it with felix opening his eyes. (i also don't want to think of a sad alternative where felix opens his eyes only to remember reality is still the same and the feud still exists. i refuse. in my head, the next part has them coming together just like that in the snow!)
but yes, if you've reached till here, thank you for reading my incoherent mess of thoughts. ily and i hope you have a good day! 💕

Your trevor meta is making me realize how weird it is that the writers and cast were so insistent that mickey wasn't coming back, because I don't think theyve ever really known what to do with ian's story without him. They put him in these lukewarm relationships and tell us they're so much better and healthier, but then have ian straight up admit that he still loves mickey and nobody else has made him feel the same way. How do they set that up and then have him go back to trevor? They set up ian moving on with "I'm not that person anymore" and follow up with season 8. It's like okay...who he is now is gay Jesus? Lmao. He's always been the shows forgotten middle child and after they wrote mickey off "for good" they could have taken him in a million directions but they chose one so shitty it basically made cam leave lmao. Sometimes it feels like fan insistence kind of forced mickey back but in actuality, the seasons where he's gone just hammer home that he was always the inevitable end to ian's story. So bizarre how little the showrunners understand their own story sometimes.
Ok. I’m going to be a little more Doylist here than I usually am, because we’re talking about what the writers are thinking. And I’m also going to take this opportunity to share this fascinating article from the AV Club in 2016: When Fan Engagement Goes Wrong. Everyone beware, it contains significant spoilers for The 100. But it’s also largely about Gallavich, the fact that online promotion of Shameless leaned hard into the popularity of the couple, and were up against it when Noel left. I’ll quote:
“[Supervising Producer Shelia] Callaghan’s choice to be honest and straightforward when engaging with fans is admirable, and yet also on some level futile. She can’t tell them exactly why Fisher chose to leave, she is (logically) unwilling to spoil future storylines outright, and she can only speak her own mind as part of a collaborative process over which she holds only some influence. So while many fans respect her effort to maintain the connection to this now marginalized community, others attack, reinforcing that attempting to manage these situations is a full-time job that no one has been properly trained for.”
This article links some tweets and the one I find the most interesting is this one:
“But the actor left.  So...what to do? Have them just break up?? Felt way less true to me than a forced separation!”
That tweet is from Krista Vernoff, who wanted to convey that they tried really hard to come up with what they do with Ian now that he’d lost Mickey. And I’m sure they did try really hard. And.... People hated it. Mostly.
Here’s what I think, based on what I’ve read and the interviews I’ve seen, on deleted tweets and Tumblr rumours and YouTube clips: The show didn’t want Mickey to leave the canvas. At all. Noel wanted more money. The show could not come up with both that money and the money they needed for everyone else. The show let him go. And hoped they could solve the creative problem their budgetary problem had dumped in their lap.
I actually think Ian’s story in season six is decent. I miss Mickey, of course. I find the last scene with him really painful -- but it’s not painful because the show is trying to diminish him. They write and then cut together a scene where Mickey is DEMONSTRATIVELY still deeply in love with Ian. He’s carved his name in his chest. He is looking at Ian like he’s the most beautiful creature ever given breath. And Ian can barely meet his gaze. They tell us Mickey is being sent away for 16 years but when we see the last of Mickey Milkovich in season six I think “God, this is so sad. They love each other so much and this is so fucked up.”
I do NOT think “We are NEVER EVER EVER getting back together.”
The show always knew what it had with Ian and Mickey. They leaned into it promotionally. They gave meaty storylines to the characters, particularly given that Ian was the fourth lead on a family dramedy built around six children. John Wells replaced Aaron Sorkin on The West Wing. He knows how hard it is to follow a phenomenon.
The more I think about it, honestly? I don’t think they tried. I think they knew that they couldn’t bring in Mickey Milkovich, the sequel in season six, so they brought in Caleb. And maybe they meant for him to be a LITTLE more viable than he was... but I think there’s a pretty good chance they were just throwing something at the wall to see if it stuck, while being fully aware that the important storyline in season six was getting Ian from despair to a fulfilling career. Caleb was just there as a catalyst.
Season seven if more interesting, because Trevor is brought on and it’s very much... “Hey, let’s do something new. Let’s bring on a transmasc character and put him into a relationship with Ian and explore those complications.”
“Great! Put it up on the board!”
“Also. Let’s call Noel Fisher’s people and see what we can work out because we can do better with Mickey’s send off and people are yelling at me on the street about it.”
Quite honestly, these are not equal tasks for his writer’s room. You have one story -- Create a whole ass new character. The only thing we know is that he’s trans. Figure out the romance from there. You have six episodes to get them together as an established couple.
Then: Bring back the well-established and beloved character for an epic romantic two-episode arc where he reunites with his true love and they run away together and then ultimately realize it cannot be, and say goodbye and it all feels like I Will Always Love You should be playing in the background. They actors worked together for five years. They have a great professional partnership. They like working together. They have a ton of history so there’s lots of juicy subtext. The longing and sexual tension comes pre-established. See what you can do.
HOW do you make both those things work out so that they are equal? You need lightening to strike. And that already happened on How I Met Your Mother. They squandered their good luck and now there is none left for Shameless. I do not disparage Elliot Fletcher at all when I say that for Trevor and Ian to really work he’d have had to have come with scorching chemistry with Cam, rich material that really gave them a good opportunity to build rapport between the characters, and A wizard standing by to cast spells in the wings. They had SIX episodes, a pretty average connection between the actors, and the “these are the LGBTQ+ people in your neighbourhood” scene.
I just can’t believe that someone with as many years of TV writing under his belt as John Wells has expected that to work. He hoped the Trevor story might be good, and was certainly going to break some ground in terms of telling trans stories. And the Mickey story was going to be the highlight, because he knew people wanted it and he also knew that they’d had something pretty special to start with. Which is why people were yelling at him at Comic-Con. I DO think he hoped it might placate fans a bit. But... he wasn’t going to completely close the door on Mickey this time, either.
So... I don’t really think the show every intended to write Mickey off “for good”. I think they wrote him off “for now, and we’ll see what happens...” -- and they did that with Karen, Shelia, Jody, Steve and Fiona, too. They only brought a few of those people back... They brought Mickey back three times. They ended Gallavich FOUR times. Noel is in ever season except eight. I don’t think they wanted Mickey gone -- but I KNOW the fans also made it pretty hard for them not to know his value, so absolutely I think that played a role. But when you create something people love and you get that lightening in a bottle like they did with this story, I think writers are always going to be excited to get that back. They like praise! They like people to be excited about their show. And Gallavich was always one of the things that got people excited about Shameless.
I think they also wanted Gay Jesus to be a great story. But that’s why the lightening in the bottle is so valuable. You can’t just get it anywhere.
