this ship is my number one favorite ship of ALL TIME. their relationship is so beautifully written. from shoyo and tobio not having a team to creating a lifelong rivalry that will last forever. i talk about them so often, and i don't see that stopping anytime soon. the love i have for them knows no bounds; i genuinely believe they are soulmates. the bond they share, their growth, and the overall relationship between them is perfection. i really don't think there's another ship like them for me!

they have grown on me SO MUCH this year. not only is skip and loafer one of my favorite pieces of media ever, shima & mitsumi's relationship is one of the best things ever to me. whether they are together romantically or platonically, there's no denying that these two characters mean so much to one another. they impact each other, they make each other so happy, and in turn, it makes ME happy!! i am just so in love with this ship. whenever i see them together, i just start to smile so big!!

hakyona

they are so nostalgic for me & finally reading akayona and seeing them become even more special to each other was just amazing. my favorite shoujo couple ever. they just love each other so profoundly & would do anything to protect their other half. i can’t get enough of them! hakyona is so beautifully written, and i could not imagine a more perfect example of peak shoujo slow burn.

killugon

i recently watched hunter x hunter this year, and i have been infected with the killugon virus. they grew on me so much in such a short amount of time. watching gon and killua become so close and special to each other was so amazing to see. there's no denying that killugon means the world to each other. they are written so beautifully. discovering killugon was the highlight of this year for me. THEY ARE JUST SO SWEET AND MAKE ME SO HAPPY.

i will be honest, bakudeku was not a fav of mine when i first got into mha but after i finally read the manga for the first time, i can now say i am on the bakudeku train. katsuki and izuku are both favorite characters of mine, and they were written so well as individuals and as a ship. they mean so much to each other. they serve as fuel to accomplish their goals, as a friend they can count on, and as a duo that can take on the world. bakudeku is very special to me!!!

i find them so warm and gentle. tohru was finally able to be vulnerable with kyo and kyo finally knows what it's like to be loved. they went through so much as kids, and i just love knowing that they will always have each other no matter what. they are my favorite part of fruits basket!!! just such a beautiful couple!!

koutaba

ao haru ride is SO special to me. it was one of the first shoujos i ever watched, and i recently have been obsessed with them. kou is such an amazingly written character, and i love how futaba was the one who "saved" him. they were middle school sweethearts who found their way back to each other. they have so much love for one another, and i'm so happy they got their ending.

I see kagehina in everything, lord help me!!

I saw a Twitter discussion about how both Kagehina are stupid about their own feelings for each other, at least, pre-timeskip. And I couldn't agree more!

I think Hinata was the first to notice, mostly because he's less clueless than Kageyama when it comes to heart stuff.

Speaking of clueless, every time I watch "Clueless" and the "I love Josh!" scene plays, I can't help but think that's exactly how Hinata would figure out he's in love with Kageyama.

I think it would've definitely happened during the Brazil arc. Hinata would see some volleyball fans talking about "hot setters" and Kageyama being one of them, and he'd be like, "Huh, what do people see in Kageyama anyway?"

At first, he'd list all the negative traits he could think of.

but then he'd ask himself, "what am I even stressing about??"

"I mean... it's Kageyama!" His setter and pattern, his best friend and rival, someone he lives to achieve, someone who's always been there for him, someone who believes in him... In the end, it's totally understandable why people like Kageyama! So why does he care so much that people find Kageyama attractive?

That's bc, he thought, it bothered him that Kageyama wouldn't even look at these people. Kageyama only cares about volleyball, and if he were to date someone, it would probably be someone who's as obsessed with volleyball as he is. Someone who would stay with him on the court, someone who can handle his crazy sets, someone who understands him and his routine and will push him to his full potential, someone who can read his mind and understand his limits, and knows how to pull him out of his lows, someone who... loves him completely and fully understands what volleyball means to him.

Hinata realized that this someone is almost unattainable. Who would have all these traits and be involved that deeply with Kageyama?

Who, right?

*Silence in the room for 5 seconds as Hinata tries to connect the dots.*

Then something clicks: what he sees as the ideal romantic partner for Tobio... is himself. He's done all these things he says someone who loves Tobio would do.

What is he even doing in Brazil, anyway? If it isn't for their promise? To get better, beat Kageyama, and stay on the court longer!

Everything he does now is for volleyball and Kageyama. He's given his all, his body, mind, and even his dreams belong to this guy.

Because he's majorly, totally but crazy in love with Kageyama!! Hinata error 404!

He'd obviously deny it at first, but after a few days, he couldn't deny it anymore: he loves Kageyama and misses him. He feels... saudades!

Well! That's my analysis! What do you guys think? I wish I had time to analyze more scenes in romantic movies and connect them with Kagehina haha!

I'm the previous haikyuu anon. And it's totally fine if u don't post anything new! I meant that just every once in a while I think aw man I'm missing haikyuu, or i need to see why i love this series so much and I suddenly remember oh this one blogger cud save me lol and it's revisiting most of ur old ones. Oh dw, I didn't think that you were pressuring me to write more or anything, I just have a tendency to overexplain myself and I've been thinking regardless that I haven't posted hq in a while.

re: tumblrs preservation system, yeah for sure, I love that tumblr keeps old posts circulating the way it does. I do this sometimes even on my own blog where I'll click on a random post and then go through the recommended posts to remember stuff I totally forgot about writing.

Even though haikyuu's really popular, hq in a meta and analysis way isn't as common nowadays, and because the chunk of fandom thar writes and reads meta is far smaller than the overall fandom, it sometimes takes a lot of digging to find. I remember painstakingly going through all the reblogs of various posts and then combing through all those blogs to try and find more.

If you read Ao Ashi, please come into my inbox or dms to talk about it! I'm suffering so much brain rot from this manga. I'm not too familiar with Adachi just because I don't actually read a lot of manga like that but I have heard of slow step, which he's written.

Totally understand that feeling of not wanting to lose the novelty of haikyuu because I feel the exact same way. I can feel it like slipping away a little bit, you know, and I hate it. I think it's been like 4-5 years since I got obsessed with hq and even now, I don't really want to let it go. Irs just so perfect and so fun in a way that I've never seen any other story be. Like I'm always talking about it but it's soooo cool! That you can look at a character or a theme or a dynamic and know for sure that there'll be some payoff, that the author kept note of it and remembered it and it wouldn't just be a one-off thing. And the characters themselves have also just entrenched themselves into my heart permanently. (tangent but i have a hinata perfume from this Instagram shop and it's one of my favorites, I will repurchase it until they close this business- I also have daichi and kageyama perfumes which are also great, and a daichi funko pop, and like so much other hq merch, like karasuno is plastered over our bedroom wall and never leaving)

Also, I am so deeply flattered that you share my posts with your mutuals and that they like it too. Like that's mind-boggling to me. You just made my whole year. It's going to take me like 3-5 business days to even wrap my head around that concept

One Bed. [Haikyuu!! - Kagehina]

Kageyama and Hinata realize that they have to share a bed during training camp one weekend.

“WHAAAAAAAA?!”

Hinata and Kageyama cried out in unison the moment they opened the door to their overnight room. Their outburst attracted the attention of their team captain, along with Karasuno’s third year setter.

“What are you two hollering about?” Daichi implored as he passed by, Sugawara following closely at his side. “Is something wrong?” 

In truth, nothing was particularly off about their assigned sleeping quarters, except for...

“THERE’S ONLY ONE BED!” The two underclassmen shouted in a chaotic harmonization, pointing their fingers in disbelief at the setup before them.

The third years looked at one another before looking back at their juniors in shared confusion.

“What’s the big deal? Sugawara and I only have one bed in our rooms, too.”

“Wait, what?!” The color drained from Hinata’s face hearing Daichi say something like that so matter-of-factly. He looked over at his now-roommate and saw him donning his typical frown. The aspiring ace paused for a moment, lost in thought as he imagined his team captain and the third year setter snuggling up together as if it were a normal, everyday thing. He wondered if Kageyama and him would end up doing the same...

He felt his cheeks grow warm, but shook it off before anyone else could notice.

“It happens every once in a while,” Sugawara said with a sheepish chuckle as he scratched the back of his head. “Sometimes the training venue is short on rooms, so some of us have to cozy up with someone else. If it’s an issue then one of you can just sleep on the floor.”

“But… but…” Kageyama started to protest, his own mouth agape with shock, but was shut down promptly by his superior.

“It’s only for the weekend,” Daichi cut him off, his displeasure increasing as the conversation went on. “If you can’t manage this, I don’t know how you’ll be able to work together when the tournaments begin. Maybe we made a mistake letting you first years on the team. You said you could work together, so prove it.”

His guilt trip was the final nail in the coffin. Hearing him suggest he regretted his decision, even if it was just a threat, felt like a spear to the heart for both of them. The two boys sighed in resignation as their next complaints faded away into nothing. Daichi and Sugawara walked away, looking over their shoulders 

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Sugawara whispered when they were out of sight. “They’re still getting used to one another. I’m worried they’ll argue themselves to death before our first practice game. Maybe I could switch with one of them?”

“They formulated their fast attack together. I think they can handle sharing a room for two nights,” Daichi replied. Although he spoke with confidence, deep down he was still a bit concerned for his younger classmates. 

He silently prayed for them to make it through the first night without killing each other.

The sound of rapid, heavy stomps reverberated down the hallway in the late evening, starting from the bathroom and moving past the shared dorms, sending fear through the hearts of the resting Karasuno players.

Nishinoya peeked his head out from behind a door to see what was the cause of the ruckus and almost lost his nose when two determined athletes rushed past him. He watched as they continued blazing their trail, still feeling the afterwind from their movement all the way down the hall. Tanaka opened his own door and barely caught a flash of black and orange hair disappearing around the corner.

“What the hell are they doing?” the bald student asked the libero. 

Nishinoya shrugged, just as oblivious to their shenanigans as he was.

In the meantime, Kageyama and Hinata were neck and neck as they raced to their shared room, the latter with a small lead due to his superhuman agility. Their focus was on one thing and one thing only, and neither dared to break their concentration with stakes as high as these. When they reached the door, they pushed and shoved one another until they nudged themselves in the door frame, neither of them able to move an inch.

“I wanna sleep in the bed tonight!” Hinata whined as he tried pushing off Kageyama’s hand, which was pressed into his left cheek.

“Hell no! I called it first!” Kageyama yelled back, grunting after Hinata stepped on his foot.

“Well, I’m older than you, so I have superiority!”

“Well, I’m taller! I need the space!”

Their bickering grew in volume, echoing off the walls and down the quiet hallway until their scuffle was interrupted by a loud, booming voice that shook them to their cores.

“ENOOOOOUGH! Stop arguing and go to sleep already!”

The captain glowered at them from around the corner, putting a stop to the fighting at once. The two younger boys froze up before slapping their hands at their sides and bowing meekly.

“Yes, Daichi-senpai!!”

And that was the end of that. Daichi disappeared once more, and the duo glanced at each other before turning their attention back to the full sized bed. Somehow, it seemed like it was waiting for them.

“Well… maybe we could both… squeeze onto it?” Hinata suggested in a meek, quiet voice. Kageyama moved forward with a dissatisfied expression.

“Whatever. Just stay on your own side.”

“Huh?”

The setter said nothing more. He plopped down on the edge of the bed and sighed in exhaustion before rolling over to face the wall. Hinata watched him curl up into a fetal position, his long legs still almost reaching the edge despite his adjustments, and suddenly felt a little embarrassed. It already looked pretty uncomfortable for the taller boy, and he was sure it’d be even worse for him if he took up the remaining space. Maybe he should’ve just let Kageyama have the bed, after all…

“Uh, Kageyama, I…”

“It’s not a big deal. Just lay down and shut up. I’m tired.”

He realized that was Kageyama’s way to say “it’s okay” without sounding like too much of a sap. With that, Hinata hopped over and flopped down on his side, causing the mattress to shake and Kageyama to bounce a bit as he lay there. There was plenty of room at the end for his legs to stretch out, so it wasn’t too bad all things considered. He realized there was more space than he originally thought at first glance; if he didn’t stretch out his arms too much, he basically had a good chunk of it to himself.

The only problem was not stretching out.

He tried his best to stay still, he really did, but the habit of fidgeting in bed to tire himself out was impossible to break in a single night. An hour had passed since the captain called for lights out, and both athletes were still wide awake. Every time Kageyama felt himself drifting off, he’d be awakened by an accidental backhand to the face or an unwelcome knee to his side. Hinata was proving to be an extremely restless sleeper, and it was starting to get on his nerves.

“Stop moving around so much!” He barked out after Hinata elbowed him in the ribs for the seventh time. He rolled over to face his orange-haired teammate, who seemed just as frustrated by the predicament.

“I can’t help it!! I can’t get comfortable…”

“How do you think I feel with you hitting me every five seconds?! And get your feet off me!”

“I’m not even touching you right now!!”

“Yes you are!”

“Am not!!”

Kageyama mumbled something that sounded like a curse under his breath, then turned around to face the wall again. The truth was, Hinata wasn’t lying; he had curled his limbs back into himself after the last accidental bump, so truly no part of him was touching his crotchety teammate. Seeking revenge for being yelled at (while also experiencing a streak of somewhat uncharacteristic mischief), he took the opportunity to tease his taller classmate.

“I’m not touching youuuu…” he taunted in a childish sing-songy voice, one finger hovering right next to Kageyama’s side.

“Leave me alone, Hinata.”

“But I’m not even doing anything…”

A wave of misguided bravery suddenly overcame Karasuno’s greatest decoy. He moved in closer until his hand was right next to his companion’s side.

And then he poked him.

At first, Kageyama just flinched. He arched his back, tension spewing throughout his body, and the sound of a stifled squeal rang out through the quiet, darkened room. In a flash, Kageyama rolled over once again to face his former middle school rival.

“Hinata! You - AAAGK!”

This time, Hinata really caught him off guard by poking his side again. The setter’s arms immediately went to his sides, hugging himself in protection. The decoy’s eyes widened once he understood what was happening.

“No way! Kageyama, you’re-!”

He was silenced by two strong hands gripping both of his wrists in midair and one single, ominous word of warning.

“Don’t.”

Still unfazed, Hinata kept pressing him. A devious smirk was slowly creeping across his round face.

“Don’t what? Don’t do this?”

He slipped one hand out of his grasp somehow and pinched his side again, but this time Kageyama let out a small yelp before flinching away. He tried grabbing Hinata’s hand, but the decoy had learned from the first time and slid away before he could be caught. He tickled every spot he could reach, seeking out unprotected areas. Skittering on his sides, poking into his ribs, clawing all five fingers on his belly, he was always one step ahead of the setter.

As his tickle attack continued, he noticed Kageyama was having a harder time holding back his laughter. For the most part, it was still fairly controlled, but hearing some little tittered giggles break through every few seconds was satisfying enough.

“Nghh! Mmmph! Hhh… ha…! … Hinata…! Sto - aha! -op!”

Kageyama’s struggles became more determined and purposeful, and soon the tables were completely turned. After a brief struggle with all four limbs involved, Hinata found himself pinned to the mattress with both wrists above his head and a very cross Kageyama glaring down at him.

“Hey, wait!! Kageyama, please!!”

“You shouldn’t mess with people who are bigger and stronger than you.”

In one swift, fluid movement, Kageyama took hold of both Hinata’s wrists in one hand. No matter how hard the underclassman pulled, he couldn’t break free from his iron grip. He wasn’t exaggerating when he said he was much stronger. It was a terrible time to learn such a fact; Hinata had made a grave mistake letting himself get stuck like this.

He was laughing frantically before Kageyama even touched him, and his laughter only grew in pitch once his free hand started kneading his ribs.

“Wait, wait, wahahahait! Nononononononono-OHOHOHO!!”

Unlike Kageyama, Hinata didn’t have the willpower to hold back whatsoever. His giggles floated through the air freely, like musical notes from a singing choir. And it seemed like everywhere the setter touched garnered an intense, over the top reaction. Worming into his underarms made Hinata howl with laughter. Wisping gently over the now-exposed skin on his stomach after his T-shirt rode up his torso made him squeal like a little kid. And digging into his sides made him cackle like he’d heard the most hilarious joke ever told. On top of that, he was thrashing around as if being poked with hot coals. Even with Kagayama pinning most of his body down with his own large frame, he was still wiggling around quite frantically.

Kageyama’s lips twitched upward in amusement, only adding on to Hinata’s torment.

“KAGEYAHAHAHAHAMA!! Pleheeheeheease no mohohore!!”

“Nope. You started this. Now I’m finishing it.”

“Gahaahahaha! Noooooo! Pleaseimbeggingyouimgonnadie!!!”

Yet, Kageyama did not stop, making sure to hit every one of Hinata’s weak spots and tickling it until he was satisfied. He was proving to be one giant tickle button, screeching with wild laughter no matter where he touched. 

“Shorties like you should learn when to shut up and listen,” Kageyama gave him one last piece of advice before finally letting up on the ruthless tickling. His hand still held Hinata’s wrists down, but with a bit less pressure. His teammate’s involuntary spasms ceased, although a few leftover giggles still fell from his lips.

“You might... be taller…” Hinata gasped, doing his best to swallow as much as possible during his little break. “But I’m... faster!!”

Kageyama had let his guard down thinking he’d tired him out, forgetting about his high level of endurance, and Hinata took full advantage of that by yanking his wrists free and immediately clamping his hands in Kageyama’s underarms. He took him by surprise this time, which made the setter burst out into unrestrained laughter. He crashed down onto the mattress, causing them both to bounce as he tried shaking off the decoy’s hands. Hinata had to laugh along with him; he rarely saw his teammate show any sign of joy, let alone a full blown belly laugh, and he planned to soak it up as long as he could while he still had the chance. 

Kageyama attempted to squirm away, flailing each of his limbs aimlessly in an unsuccessful attempt to kick him off, but came face first with the wall and found himself stuck with nowhere else to go. Again, Hinata tortured him by leaping from spot to spot, relentlessly tickling all of his most sensitive areas without mercy.

“Nahahahahaoooo! Hinataahahahahaha!! I’ll kill you!”

“Take that! And that!! And this too!!”

Their little game went on for a few more minutes, Kageyama spluttering out empty threats through forced giggles as Hinata began to throw in a few “tikitiki” sounds while tickling the absolute snot out of him. However, their fun was soon interrupted by their less-than-pleased team captain, who practically knocked down their door aflame with rage.

“What the hell are you two doing?! You woke up the entire floor!”

Both underclassmen stopped dead in their tracks, mortified at the fact that others had overheard them. Fear struck through their hearts upon seeing Daichi’s irate expression. Dark circles lined his eyes, an unpleasant accessory to match his deep scowl.

“Uh…”

“Stop playing around and go to sleep!” He commanded in a disciplinary tone. “We’ve got practice games tomorrow!”

“Sorry senpai!! It won’t happen again!!” The two shouted simultaneously, once again bowing their heads in shame.

Daichi grumbled under his breath before making his leave.  When the door closed, the two of them collapsed back onto the mattress. Kageyama, still winded and out of breath, took a few seconds to calm himself while Hinata replayed the last few minutes in his mind over and over again. They sat there in awkward silence, neither one willing to speak of what had just happened.

“Sooo…”

“Not another word,” Kageyama silenced him swiftly, turning over to face the wall yet again. Suddenly, Hinata felt a bit lonely, twiddling his thumbs in silence for a little while longer before piping up one last time.

“So, you’re ticklish.”

“I said not another word.”

Kageyama’s order was final, but he sensed the shorter boy shuffling next to him and braced himself for yet another awkward conversation.

“Can I say one more thing?”

“Will you shut up if I say yes?”

Hinata sat up beside him, and as he spoke Kageyama could hear the smile in his voice. It made his next few words all the more flustering.

“You should really smile more often. It suits you better than a frown.”

The setter’s breath caught in his throat and made him choke, causing him to let out a few weak coughs as if he’d been kicked in the stomach. He felt a warm flush over his cheeks and thanked whatever deity was watching over him that Hinata couldn’t see. He clutched the blanket next to him and pulled it over his head, signaling that he was done for the night.

“Goodnight, Hinata.”

A few seconds passed, then he felt Hinata lay down beside him. He made a few more adjustments before finally settling down into a comfortable spot. Kageyama felt his eyes fluttering shut, but before he drifted to sleep he heard a small voice cut through the silence.

“Night, Kageyama.”

When he woke up in the morning with sunlight in his face, Kageyama stirred a bit before realizing there was an arm wrapped around his waist. He glanced over and saw Hinata sleeping peacefully, his tiny body curled up into his own. Shocked at first, his initial discomfort settled down when he noticed his own body relaxing at the unexpected display of affection. It was a cute gesture, one that made his cheeks flush with warmth and his stomach erupt into a flurry of butterflies.

He knew that it was almost time for them to get up for practice, but he figured laying in bed for a few more moments wouldn’t hurt.

"Everything on this planet is pink, looks the same, and Kageyama got us lost because he—"

Hinata's voice cuts off into a wheeze, presumably due to being tackled by Kageyama. The sounds of Kageyama swearing loudly while Hinata screeches carry on for a few more seconds, before the whole thing cuts off entirely.

Captain Oikawa and First Officer Iwaizumi look, with a certain mix of exasperation and dull amusement, first down at the PDR, then at each other, and then, finally, at the other two occupants of the med bay.

Second Officer Kageyama and Second Second Officer (once removed) Hinata, do not meet their eyes. The two of them stand there, stark naked, hands clasped in front of their bodies to preserve whatever slight shred of modesty they may have remaining. Oikawa doesn't see the point.

"I knew sending them there was a mistake," Iwaizumi says. He seems mostly exasperated. “Can you... explain... what happened on the planet?”

"It would have been fine if they'd read the handbook," Oikawa says. He's definitely amused.

Hinata blinks at him. "What handbook?"

"This," Kageyama says, "this is why you aren't an officer."

Caryophyllaceae is a class L planet, which means the atmosphere supports human life and the air can be breathed outside of an extraterrestrial environment suit, but the planet still remains unsuitable for human population. Oftentimes, this is due to the flora and fauna inhabiting the planet. Though Kageyama has read the handbook (he still has trouble with the name), he knows that nearly every species of plant on the entire planet is poisonous.

Hinata, unsurprisingly, has not read the handbook. Hinata is an engineer, and strictly speaking should not be allowed to accompany Kageyama on a mission to scout a new planet as it is. But Oikawa has taken a liking to him, ever since Hinata managed to save the ship from almost certain destruction at the hands of some less than friendly intergalactic visitors while the rest of the crew was captured (Kageyama helped, but repairing damaged spacecraft is not his forte).

Oikawa calls Hinata "chibi-chan", and apparently thinks they make a good team. Kageyama disagrees, nevermind the fact that he and Hinata have been sleeping together for going on four months now (if fucking in the engine room can count as sleeping together). Oikawa is almost definitely aware of it. Kageyama is only becoming more sure letting Hinata tag along was a mistake, after two hours of exploratory overtures.

So far, Hinata has succeeded in nothing aside from being annoying, interrupting Kageyama's ship's logs, and blaming Kageyama for getting lost (not Kageyama's fault). He also will not shut up about how pink everything is, because he's never been planetside anywhere but Earth, so an alien landscape is blowing his already easily blown mind.

Caryophyllaceae is definitely pink. In the early days of the planet's rotation around the sun, before it was knocked into a different orbit, most likely by a small meteor, it had developed a very specific hue across the board for all living things upon its surface. All the plants, the trees, the spongy vegetation below their feet, the occasional insects and small reptilian species Kageyama has spotted—everything is colored in bright, candy-coated shades of pink. It's so lurid it all seems unnatural, but on this planet, the color is nature itself, like green and blue on Earth. Even the sky above has not entirely escaped, a pale, milky color reminiscent of strawberry milk. It makes Kageyama instinctively thirsty.

Hinata has been gawking openly, ooh-ing and aah-ing over every single weed as though each is a masterpiece previously undiscovered. This leaves Kageyama to do all the actual work, like collecting samples and documenting his findings, which is another reason he resents Hinata being given leave to come along. He's useless.

Possibly more than useless. Kageyama hears him utter another delighted squawk, turns, and shouts, "HINATA!"

Hinata has stuck his face deep within the blossoms of an enormous, Valentine's-day-pink hanging flower—the stalk is taller than he is, the bud is bigger than his whole head. He pulls back, and Kageyama sees his nose and mouth are covered in hot pink pollen.

"Kageyama!" he yelps, "It smells like—"

Kageyama doesn't get to find out what it smells like, because Hinata, without warning, pitches straight forward onto his face, like a freshly pollinated, and probably very poisoned, pancake.

Fuck. Kageyama lets out a yell of frustration. He rapidly transmits a distress signal to the bridge of the Apex, before rushing forward, crouching to roll Hinata over onto his back.

"Hinata? Hinata!"  

Hinata is still awake, but barely. He is, however, smiling, and when he sees Kageyama hovering over him, the loopy grin he's wearing only widens.

"Ka-ge-ya-maaaa," he babbles, and then yanks Kageyama down by the front of his shirt and kisses him.

Kageyama is not prepared for it. He thinks, in the back of his mind, that he should be better at intercepting these surprise attacks—because even when not under the influence of whatever toxin is currently in his system, Hinata is prone to randomly sticking his tongue in Kageyama's mouth at every available opportunity. But Kageyama was not prepared, and now, they must pay the price.

It's like… the sensation of a large, overstressed bubble bursting in the back of Kageyama's mind—a sudden and rounded pop that unleashes a tidal wave of warmth across all his senses, like standing under a low power showerhead when its first turned on. He feels light and heavy at the same time, a little bit sweet—the flavor, not the disposition, if it is possible to feel like a flavor. He supposes Tsukishima is salty all the time, and Oikawa is pretty bitter, so maybe it is possible after all.

Following on the heels of the sweetness is a sudden ambush of lethargy—not exhaustion, but contentedness, the kind that makes it a happy occurrence to laze about with nothing to do and nowhere to be because life is good. Kageyama rarely, if ever, feels this way, and it is this second sensation that puts him back on his guard.

"H'nata," he mumbles, "Na… ta… we—we need—back to the Apex—"

"Nooo," Hinata moans, from somewhere underneath him. Dimly, Kageyama realizes that he has also fallen, right on top of the engineer.

"We're… poisoned…" Kageyama tells him. And then, to punctuate this urgent and shocking statement, he yawns.

"Whatever," Hinata responds, "we gotta have sex."

This at first makes no sense to Kageyama's sleep-addled mind, until very suddenly, it does. In multiple ways.

The first way is that, as soon as Hinata says this, Kageyama realizes that he does have a very urgent need to put his cock in, on, or around Hinata, at least once, but probably more like a lot. The second way is that he is now acutely aware of the fact that he is harder than a diamond, with Hinata's soft… softness squeezed up under him, and he groans because the thought makes him ache. This leads to the third way it makes sense—he feels like he's been blue-balled for hours, maybe days, with the level of agony he's in, just thinking about sinking his dick into all of Hinata's heat—Hinata always feels so good around him, so tight and hot, hole sucking him in so needily—

"The—poison—" Kageyama gasps, "it's making us—"

"IgottacomeorI'mgonnadie—" Hinata says all in one breath, and yes, that is probably a very realistic assessment of their current situation.

But Kageyama is so sleepy.

"H-help," he mumbles, trying to rub his face against Hinata's face, his chin, his neck. Everything feels so good but it's not enough. "Hinata… clothes…"

With their uniforms in the way, he can't feel Hinata properly, but it's all that he can do to weakly squirm around on top of him while fighting off falling into some kind of forced slumber. Hinata, who probably inhaled more of the pollen than he did, is even worse off. He just lies there looking absolutely silly, expression utterly blissed out, a tiny, rapturous smile on his face as Kageyama painstakingly peels them both out of their clothes. They're both sweating like they've got high fevers—actually, maybe they do, Kageyama realizes, when he splats his body on top of Hinata's and feels the way he's absolutely burning.

"Mmm," Hinata sighs, slowly starfishing his arms and legs out at his sides like he's trying to make a foliage angel in the soft pink moss beneath him. "Mmm, naked Kageyama… makes me so happy…" He keeps tossing his head lazily from side to side, laughing at random intervals, stretching his arms out above his head as he starts to roll his hips. His hair has fanned out under him against the moss, clashing terribly.

If the poison doesn't kill Kageyama, Hinata might.

"You are such—an idiot—" he says, "f-ffff-fuck—"

It feels like he is discovering heaven as he writhes, stupidly and slowly and sweatily all over Hinata's slick body underneath him. But maybe Hinata is the angel, sent to him amidst this obscenely rosy hell—his whole body matches at any rate, thighs flushing, nipples like rose petals, stomach and chest turning a darker shade of red.

"I really… want you inside me…" Hinata mumbles into the air, almost too soft for Kageyama to hear.

"No," Kageyama gasps, "no lube—"

"Then later," Hinata whines, "when we get back—"

This is an optimistic statement, considering Hinata has just poisoned them both, which renders both his bargaining leverage and possibly their chances of survival rather low. But Hinata is ever the optimist.

"I was really excited," he sighs, as Kageyama reaches down to palm his balls, before slipping a finger against his entrance, rubbing it lightly. Hinata keens and Kageyama can feel the way the ring of tight muscle quivers at his touch. "It's m-my—my first time on a mission. I w-wanted to… nnhh… wanted to celebrate with you… oh—I—was gonna ride you… so hard…"

Kageyama feels like he blasts his brains out through his cock when he comes, metaphorically suckerpunched by Hinata's revelation of his plans. It's like the unbearable heat is rushing out of him through his dick, taking some of the pink-hazed fog in his brain with it, and then he’s moaning, splattering Hinata’s stomach in a truly ridiculous amount of cum.

When he finally manages to blink his eyes open and look at Hinata again, it’s to see that Hinata has actually managed to fall asleep while Kageyama was busy orgasming.

“Hinata,” he says. Hinata doesn’t stir. Kageyama hopes he isn’t dead, and starts rapidly smacking him lightly, on his cheeks, then his stomach. Hinata jerks awake very suddenly, and keeps talking, like he’d never stopped in the first place.

"I wanna," he whispers, very slowly and painstakingly raising his hand so he can smear his sweaty fingers aimlessly all over Kageyama's face. Kageyama refuses to find this adorable. "Wanna ride you like a rocket…"

"You're the worst," Kageyama tells him, and Hinata's eyes roll back into his head.

Kageyama is momentarily terrified that he's actually finally succumbing to the poison, as his whole body heaves up and he arches his back like a cupid's bow—but then Hinata comes in a hot, sticky rush that seems to last forever, while he shakes like a leaf in a gale, pulling up whole handfuls of moss in his ecstasy. The whole time he cries out, wordless bliss, except for the few times Kageyama manages to make out his own name.

When he's done, he slumps back against the ground, breathing evening out, eyes shut. Kageyama leans in closer—he's starting to feel a little bit back to normal, but Hinata has again passed out cold. Unsurprisingly—the toxin was probably a shock to his system. Neither of them is dead, though.

As Kageyama thinks this, he notices something strange. The cum on their stomachs, instead of drying, or doing any other normal, cum-like things, seems to be—evaporating. It ghosts upwards into the air, turning cloudy and buoyant, before being whisked away on the breeze.

"What the fuck…" he mutters, right before swirling blue lights surround their two bodies, and he realizes, they're about to be teleported. Frantically, he starts grabbing for their clothes, his data findings, the PDR. "Shit, wait, wait—"

They disappear.

"Sex pollination," Oikawa informs them with an air of superiority, having now been told the story (sans most of the finer details). "The plant induces the urges, and once the act is completed, the resulting fluids act as both fertilizer and a way for it to spread its pollen to the surrounding area."

"Basically, you two are bees," Iwaizumi explains.

"Ohhh," Hinata says. "Cool!"

"It is not cool," Kageyama hisses. "What if we'd died from—from—our dicks exploding, or something?!"

"Crass," Oikawa sniffs. "And unlikely. The symptoms probably would have just faded after several hours. Poison doesn't always lead to death, Tobio; you should really do some further studying."

"Can we be dismissed?" Kageyama demands. He is entirely ready to end this debriefing, and put on some pants.

"I suppose so," Oikawa agrees, "if only because I don’t want to be present when the second wave hits."

Kageyama blinks. "Second wave?"

"You have to flush all the toxins from your body, obviously," Oikawa says, and then smirks. "I doubt you'll get much rest tonight, but make no mistake, you will still be expected for your morning shift on the bridge."

"I'll be there," Kageyama vows, then spins on his heel. "Come on, Hinata."

Hinata bounces along after him readily. Other parts of Hinata also bounce in turn, rather distractingly, and Kageyama wonders if the second wave Oikawa was talking about is hitting, or if this is just a normal reaction to Hinata in the nude. Either way, they need to grab their clothes and get out of there, fast.

"Where are we going?" Hinata asks.

"My… quarters," Kageyama grunts. "I need you to help me flush out the rest of this shit."

Hinata's face lights up. "Yes! I still get to celebrate!" he cheers, and Kageyama feels himself start to burn.  

The captain and first officer watch them go.

"When do you think they'll figure out there's no second wave?" Iwaizumi wonders.

"Honestly," Oikawa says, "I'm not sure they will. But I am looking forward to seeing how grumpy Tobio will be tomorrow morning."

They're a lot smarter than Hinata and Kageyama and they go for walks and practice in the mornings. Asanoya: why??? is noya???? the calm one now??!?! Asahi is losing his mind, the anxiety of watching the whole world go to pieces has him in a constant state of terror. Noya bans the news, he distracts Asahi with kisses and arts and crafts and other stuff😏

Daisuga: Suga goes full crackhead! "No responsibility, let's dye my hair and eat our weight in ice cream! Daichi, I miss our kouhai!" Daichi keeps Suga's impulses under control for the most part, but he does help Suga color his hair a dusky pink, and winds up LOVING it and Suga even more.

IwaiOi: "Iwachan~lets watch conspiracies!" Oikawa is soft, his hair is damp and he smells like his lavender body wash, Iwaizumi will never say it out loud, but this is his favorite Tooru. In the end, he doesn't need to say it, Oikawa knows it when Iwaizumi pulls him into his lap as Oiks hits play on a Shane Dawson video.

Kuroken: they literally play video games for the first week until kenma of all people finally calls it off and after a trip to the store kuroo is helping kenma rebleach his hair, he likes washing Kenma's hair too much, almost as much as kenma likes him washing his hair

Bokuaka: Bokuto learns how to knit, Akaashi is slightly embarrassed but he wears the terrible hole infested socks and barely together sweaters his boyfriend worked so hard on anyway. He himself passes the time by actually doing his homework unlike almost everybody else.

Kyoutani/Yahaba: Their whole quarantine is NSFW with brief intermissions to hydrate and eat. Oikawa once had to hang up a video call and try to forget the trauma of what he had seen. Also Yahaba has not stopped bumping Lana Del Rey's entire discography since all of this started, that and a copious amount of wine and kyoutani calm his nerves.

LevYaku: this is cute, yaku just spends the whole time rubbing his giant russian's back and watching Tiger King, Lev sleeps with his head in Yaku's lap and learns how to bake until he almost burns down the house and then yaku takes over.

Ukatake: these two aren't together yet but they will be by the end of this quarantine. Takeda moves in with ukai for the quarantine when Ukai mentions that he has nothing but beer, microwaveable corndogs, and cigarettes in his house. Takeda buys good food and Ukai falls in love with soft Takeda while they get beer drunk for two weeks straight.

Hiiiii midnight it’s been a while! I’ve been pretty the air at school is pretty chill rn and I haven’t been as stressed as normal! Anyways I just finished reading the haikyuu manga and none of my irl friends are going to read it so I’m DYING to talk to someone about it while it’s still fresh on my mind (also I remember you saying you read the manga but if you didn’t don’t continue reading for spoilers!) well ANYWAYS the nekoma match took YEARS of my life let me tell you and the cage metaphors and tsukki and kuroo’s battle of the blockers it was probably one of my favorite matches. And KENMA at the end actually having fun ahahah I loved loved loved this match.

And then fukorodani’s match with akaashi was hard to read but the “we are the protagonists/stars of the world” made my bokuaka heart go places but akaashi just breaking was so surprising to see and the fact that they don’t even win nationals makes me sooo sad I wanted at least one team I knew to win nations also

AND THEN THE NEXT MATCH HINATAA the day that scene gets animated is the day I combust someone give HINATA a hug he just couldn’t play for w h a t and then they losttt and he was crying alone and coach ukai and takeda were absolute kings in this scene. Buuuuttt we did get to meet the tiny giant and I thkught he’d look real intimidating and scary but he actually seems pretty cool! AND THEN KAGAYAMA unpopular opinion I actually can’t STAND him sometimes he really went I win while hinata is really cryingg and I know it’s for plot but hsjajsjs

The time skip omggg okay yachi saying that date tech went to finals and the Miya twins beat karasuno actually made my heart really happy. I do wish when they were third years they could if won but getting third is also really incredible and YAMAGUCHI WAS CAPTAIN I really need the crew as their years fics. The beach part was so fun to read I loved meeting them new people and OIKAWA I never though hinata and oikawa would get to the point of being good friends but I loved seeing it

AND THEN RHE MATCH BETWEEN HINATA AND KAGEYAMA okay kags backstory was sad but the “one day you’ll okay with someone who is even better then you” and that someone being hinata he finally beat kagayama it makes me sooo happy. Also bokuto making everyone clap for him I love it AND THE NEXT PART WITH OIKAWA ahahshd I don’t even want to know the outcome of the match but I was sooo sad it ended (and is it weird that I want a spinoff with natsu hinata playing volleyball that would be so cool)

I don't know what's with Tumblr not giving me notifications (also I haven't checked it much) so I'm late at seeing this but I AM SOO HAPPY U READ THE MANGA BECAUSE WE CAN NOW SCREAM AT EACH OTHER! I actually read the manga then went back and rewatched the series and started rereading the manga till the end of nekoma match then a week of exams happened and I became antisocial.

Like I was so pumped up for the nekoma match when I realized that was not yet animated and reading the first few pages of the manga was hard cuz my dumbass brain didn't wanna read right to left and interpret instead went rushing through the panels ( hence the re read to savour the storyline and characters) . But once I got into it the match was soo good? Like Kenma really went I don't care you're my friend I'm gonna tear u from limb to limb and did so calmly? I agree with the cage metaphor when he broke through it I was so giddy and I remember Suguru ( Nohebi's captain) commenting how he didn't like Tsukki's vibes and realising that it was same as Kuroo's and hating them both :)

The Fukorodani's match fed my bokuaka heart and was a precursor to Bokuto's 'im a normal ace' part. The tiny giant was kind of a disappointment but that's life for you.. and the kamomedai match man the battle of the little giants - I was so rooting for Hinata but when he collapsed I didn't get it at first but then it hit me and takeda's talk about taking care of body being a part of volleyball and all made me cry. Also Kenma coming to check up on Hinata? Soft. Heart breaking. Cue waterworks.

Somewhere deep inside I always expected Karasuno to win the nationals but they lost and I wasn't even bothered by it at the end

So.. unpopular opinion I kind of don't like Kageyama? He is always being insensitive and a dick to Hinata and when says I'm going forwards or some shit when Hinata collapses really made me dislike him very much. I don't really think their dynamic is healthy so kagehina became a big no-no for me.

But post time skip I loved that they could settle it and work together as equals. But Brazil?! My god, little Hinata become so accomplished-Ninja Shoyou- and the bit abt Kenma sponsoring him, Oikawa meeting him and becoming friends, seeing all these great high school players in the same team- let me tell you Atsumo and Sakusa on the same team with their competitive vibes with Bokuto - man I laughed like crazy at the Bokuto Beam, its so dorky and utterly him- and Hinata was perfect. Is it weird I want spinoff of the MSBY jackals and their shenanigans? I loved how they showed every ones career and Tsukki still playing 🏐 after saying it's just a game - he must have been more hooked than he let on-

My haikyuu phase doesn't seem to end soon but it's just that I can't get into the head space for ATLA and I feel so guilty for it, I have so many updates from fics I've subscribed and I can't muster any interest in checking them out.

On another note it's so funny in a show where the only confirmed couples seem to be Tanaka and Kiyoko yet I ship so many of them!? In my mind they are all gay and I ship them. My fav ships are probably- iwaoi, daisuga, BOKUAKA, kuroken, and weirdly enough I was kinda obsessed with sakuhina, atsuhina, oh and sakuatsu. I. Just. Think. They're. Neat.

grepre or fkbu? grepre!!! the characters and arcs and dynamics are so well-done, and overall, as much as i love love love and adore fkbu, grepre was more unique and interesting!!! the premise, everything. i loved seeing all develop. i watched the case 1, 2 and 3 in one sitting, and the first one had me hooked from beginning to end. but every single case has SOMETHING to it. like watching abby thrive and grow was amazing, watching both cynthia and laurent’s backstory was mindblowing. and i just. love abby and cynthia and dorothy so goddamn much. all the main characters tbh yES

Part two of the fantasy-royalty AU because yes, I have indeed fallen down a rabbit hole of this and I’m now way way way too emotionally invested in this, please deal with me for the next few, well, let’s see how long this obsessions lasts but this is mostly going to be exactly what happens after they get there

- Akaashi is the oldest prince and most likely to succeed the throne

- Bokuto is his energetic bodyguard-knight who’s incredibly talented, hardworking, passionate and painfully pining over the prince

- Karasuno gang first meets the two of them and every other important person at the welcome dinner, it’s a small thing, just the royal family and the Karasuno gang (I’ll just be referring to all of them ad that now) meeting up with the preparation for it being as chaotic as you can imagine

- They’re first greeted and given a welcome tour around the palace by Yachi, who’s the princess though she certainly doesn’t act like one (her bodyguard’s Kiyoko, I initially forgot to give a bodyguard but well, since she’s a princess it doesn’t really make sense for her to not have a bodyguard. And I ended up going with Kiyoko cause it didn’t really make sense for anyone else and I felt like it kinda fits)

- More on her though, she studies magic under Shimada, illusion magic to be specific

- That’s how she met Yamaguchi (she has more proper and set classes at fixed timings and stuff while Yams more of just follows Shimada around and helps out and picks stuff up like that, they have classes after each day at night though but they’re a lot less fixed and set and stuff) and they sorta just met through magic and Shimada and hit it off quite well and became rather good friends

- The welcome tour turns out surprisingly uneventful given the Karasuno gang. Well, somewhat. Suga exchanges some small talk with Yachi, Suga and Kiyoko keep Yachi blissfully unaware of the chaos going on behind her, Kagehina bicker, Daichi is dragged in more times than he should be, Tsukishima makes very unhelpful and most certainly not asked for side comments that add to the chaos but otherwise remains amused and quiet, it eventually gets boring for him and he literally straight up tells them to their face that “you’re getting boring. If you guys are going to bicker, at least make it entertaining for the rest of us. A little worried you’re losing your entertainment value now” (cursing and yelling and a “we’re not the court jesters!” “Pft, are you sure? You certainly act like them”)

- But anyway the tour ends with Yachi telling them that they’ll have clothes for the welcome dinner specially brought up for them that was provided by Fukurodani (yes I’ve finally decided to name them, yeah it’s not very original but it works?) for them to wear to the dinner and that it’s rather fashionable amongst the Fukurodani nobles (to give a sense of the time, it’s around 1-2 pm and the dinner will begin at 7)

- They return to their chambers and off their separate ways though Daisuga ask for them to go to Suga’s room two hours before the dinner to prepare

- Kageyama goes to take a nap, Hinata goes to wander around the town, Suga writes a letter back to the kingdom, Daichi’s there with Suga and Tsukishima disappears off to god knows where

- Two hours later, a groggy Kageyama appears in Suga’s room. Half an hour later, Hinata appears after having gotten lost in town and Tsukishima remains absent. They basically go through proper etiquette, politeness, all that stuff and well, given Hinata’s never actually learnt all that stuff, it’s... an interesting process

- They try to teach our dear Kageyama how to smile and even a royalty-fantasy AU cannot change the fact that Kageyama is not good at smiling

- Tsukishima finally appears to prepare like half an hour before the event, after low key having given Daichi a heart attack because he was more concerned about it then Suga was (he knows enough about the prince to know that he wouldn’t ditch entirely and that he’d show up on time or at least be able to attend the event on time and in proper attire) and he actually doesn’t need the etiquette lessons since he has actually retained them in his brain, he just makes a very conscious decision to not use them around Kageyama (he also says this to his face)

- There’s practically chaos up until the minute they decide to finally leave

- They meet Bokuaka at the dinner and Bokuto immediately clicks with Hinata, yeah Hinata’s lessons all went flying out his brain the moment he met Bokuto

- The dinner is generally a rather formal event but nothing really important is discussed and it’s more of a introduction for both of them since this is the first time Fukurodani and Karasuno have set down to discuss and talk about an alliance and what not since the one generations ago talking about how the two parties weren’t going to fight against each other. Basically, this whole trip is about a cultural exchange and forming good nation relationships and they’ll be sorting through a ton of important things when starting to form a good relationship too

- The plan is for them to stay there for six months at least

- Okay this dinner is honestly just a welcome dinner and to get to sort of know each other

- The dinner ends with the promise to well, discuss business the next day

- A couple of things happen that night though

- Daichi and Suga sit down to kinda talk and Suga confesses that he’s worried and stuff and Daichi says that he can’t promise that everything will turn out alright but he can promise that he’ll be there for him (okay apparently I’m good at thinking up sappy stuff) and all that stuff and they talk more and they both end up falling asleep in Suga’s bed (they’re not romantically together in here, not yet at least)

- Yachi and Yamaguchi meet after the dinner in the owlery and they kinda talk and feed the owls snacks (and Bokuto is still wondering why his favourite owls are growing fatter) (side note, they get fed way too many snacks)

- Kagehina end up accidentally arranging for them to go to town the next day (Kageyama made a snide comment on how Hinata was late because he got lost and Hinata said that he wouldn’t fare much better either (in terms of not getting lost) and it basically ended in them agreeing to go to the town together the next day

- Bokuaka kinda talk to each about the Karasuno gang and their impressions of them while Akaashi writes and Bokuto feeds the ducks (they’re by the pond) and Bokuto gets Akaashi to feed the ducks too before he walks him back to his room

Okay yeah, I think this definitely goes without saying, this is most definitely getting more parts. (Again, I am way too deep in at this point) I’m actually resisting the urge to write a whole fic from this and I’m really surprised people like this au! Thank you so much to everyone who said you liked it!! It’s really nice to hear that (it really made me happy to see that you guys liked it so thanks!) and I hope this part 2 isn’t too disappointing (I wanted to add Bokuto in for the canon Bokuto and Hinata relationship) and that you hopefully liked this one too! for the ask game: Haikyuu!

Just a fair headsup but I am super behind on this fandom! Last chapter I read was somewhere around the beginning of the spring high nationals, so my answers might be a bit outdated.

My all-time favourite character:

Bokuto Koutarou: He’s a babe and I love him with all my heart. I love his upbeat attitude and how unapologetically himself he is at all times. I love that he’s always willing to help others with volleyball, even when those others are technically his rivals.

A character I didn’t used to like but now do:

Tsukishima Kei - he was originally a pretty big dick, but as the series progressed and we got to see more of his character, I came to adore him. He goes through a lot of character development and I seriously love that, especially during the training camp with Fukurodani and Nekoma, as well as during the game against Shiratorizawa.

A character I used to like but now don’t:

Honestly, the only person in Haikyuu that I actively dislike right now is Oikawa, and I’ve despised him since the very beginning, so I don’t really have an answer to this. That being said, Nishinoya used to be my favourite character before Bo showed up, so now Noya’s my second favourite. I guess that’s the closest I can get to answering the question lmao.

A character I’m indifferent about:

Iwaizumi Hajime - I know he’s popular in the fandom but I don’t really care for him either way.

A character who deserved better:

Michimiya Yui - I wish her and the rest of the girls volleyball club could’ve gotten some more screentime. I’m sad that they lost and didn’t get very far in their tournament.

A ship I’ve never been able to get into:

KuroTsukki - Never really saw the appeal to this ship tbh. I preferr KuroKen and TsukkiYama. I prefer Tsukki and Kuroo’s relationship as kind of a senpai/kouhai relationship rather than a romantic one.

A ship I’ve never been able to get over:

Kagehina - they’re total otp and absolutely adorable, I love them to death! I’ve always loved the ships where they’re always bickering and fighting but have each other’s backs through thick and thin. Though not gonna lie, DaiSuga comes in at a very very very very close second they’re total goals.

A cute, low-key ship:

KiyoYachi - they’re adorable and I love them together. Yachi is totally a lesbian this isn’t even a debate we got a peek into her head the first time she met Kiyoko and literally all she could think about was how sexy Kiyoko was. Also, how she seemed really obsessed with Saeko’s boobs that one time.

An unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it:

Ukai/Saeko - Listen, don’t @ me. I just think they’re really cute together okay?

A ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened:

OiKage - I was seriously depressed when I found out that this was a thing that people actually shipped. The relationship between Oikawa and Kageyama is pretty toxic and Oikawa needs to stay 293454382302143857 feet away from Kags.

My favourite storyline/moment:

When Karasuno finally beat Shiratorizawa! It was so emotional and beautifully written. I also loved the visuals of Ushiwaka suppressing Hinata and Tsukki, but the third years coming to back up their kouhai. It was an amazing emotional payoff.

A storyline that never should have been written:

Honestly, I hate everything about Kageyama and Oikawa’s backstory.

My first thoughts on the show:

Really well-written, over all very likable cast of characters, can’t wait to see where it goes.
