some people say george isn't as good as the other "future wdcs" of his generation or he isn't even all that good in general. but don't you ever fucking forget the never ending terrible circumstances that plague his f1 career that he gets up and tries to beat every single damn race weekend. sadly i am also guilty of losing faith in him so as a reminder just some of george's achievements:
even before setting foot in f1, he won gp3 and f2 in his rookie seasons. he STILL holds the record for most points in a single season in one of the most competitive f2 grids ever.
williams in 2019 weren't capable of even getting a single point without 2 dsqs but george STILL out-qualified his teammate in all 20 races as a rookie.
in 2020 george sat down in a car he had never driven, put on shoes that didn't even fit him and STILL almost won the race. he continued his domination over his teammate this year.
george had one of the most impressive qualis in one of the slowest cars and brought williams to a front row start in a time where they were regularly knocked it q1. he earned his mr saturday title, multiple times. if mercedes weren't going to give him the seat, someone else would have.
in 2022 he was finally called up to go up against the most successful f1 driver in history in his team and he did his absolute best. to make it easy to visualise, george beat lewis this year by larger margin then nico rosberg did in 2016.
even in his scrappiest season in 2023, he matched the greatest qualifier in qualifying and in pace. he's one of lewis' closest ever teammates in both. this is lewis hamilton, the greatest of all time. there is literally no one else who could be a greater challenge for someone pulled up from the back marker of the grid.
multiple wdcs, drivers, commentators and tps have spoken about his talent. he continues to push to the limit in every car even if it fucks him over and even if it doesn't end up mattering. does he make mistakes? yes. but they don't at all take away from his skill.
mercedes already has their golden boy but if toto can't see that, then he can shine elsewhere. he has done what others have and more. he has the mentality because he knows what it means to pick yourself up even if you keep getting knocked down. he's a future champion and that's on that, all he needs is a car.

and this is not to take away from oscar at all, but deciding lando is washed over jeddah has never been wise. they tried it last year and we all saw how the remainder of the year proceeded. it is not at all a representative look at his speed or skills. hell, ricciardo did outperform him pretty majorly in the actual race in 2021 - based upon that, you'd think they'd have at least been close the remainder of the year, but no. 2022 it was one of the few tracks ricciardo was right with him at - ricciardo, who was regularly .400/seconds off him in qualifying that year. we all know what happened in qualifying in 2023. so let sky and the haters talk their shit, as a lando fan, i am personally beyond happy with this result based on his usual performance at this specific track.
it's not even just Lando's performance, 5/6 is brilliant when you look at last year, and it's still not a track that suits us AND our car is ass in a straight line
ALPINE are faster in a straight line than we are and they had a double Q1 knock out!!
Oscar had an extra set of soft tyres for quali as well while Lando has another set for the race (though @dizzyduck44 posted more on this, a good little read)
again, not taking anything away from Oscar at all, but fuck me you'd think it was a second and half the way sky and some people on here/f1twt are going on about it
I haven't seen it myself but if anyone is trying to call Lando washed over 0.043 between their final lap times they're just dumb
#saudi arabian gp 2024#jeddah gp 2024#quali#lando norris#again not at all a dig at you anon#this is just so fucking tiring to me#birb speaks

An AMENDED Rundown on the Absolute Chaos That is First Quarto Hamlet
O, gather round me, my dear Shakespeare friends And let me tell to ye a tale of woe. It was a dark and drizzly winter night, When I discovered my life was a lie... This tale is a tragedy, one of Shakespeare sources turned into gardening websites, "misdated" quartos, and failed internet archives. It is also a story of the quarto itself, an early printing of our beloved Danish Prince's play, including an implied Hamlet/Horatio coffee date, weird and extremely short soliloquies, and Gertrude with a hint of motivation and autonomy.
But let us start from the beginning. Long ago, in the year of our lord 2022, I pulled a Christmas Eve all-nighter to bring you this post: https://www.tumblr.com/withasideofshakespeare/704686395278622720/a-rundown-on-the-absolute-chaos-that-is-first?source=share
It was popularish in Shakespeare circles, which is why I am amending it now! I returned to it tonight, only to discover a few problems with my dates and, more importantly, a mystery in which one of my sources miraculously turned into a link to a gardening website...
Anyhow, let us begin with the quarto! TL;DR: Multiple versions of Hamlet were printed between 1603 and 1637 (yes, post-folio) with major character and plot differences between them. The first quarto (aka Q1) is best known for its particular brand of chaos with brief soliloquies, an extra-sad Hamlet, some mother-son bonding, weird early modern spelling, and deleted/adapted scenes with major influences on the plot of the play!
A long rundown is included below the cut, including new and improved sources, lore, direct quotes, and my own interpretations. Skip what bores you! And continue... if thou darest!
What is the First Quarto? Actually, what is a quarto?
Excellent questions, brave Hamlet fan! A quarto is a pamphlet created by printing something onto a large sheet of paper and then folding it to get a smaller pamphlet with more pages per big sheet (1). First Quarto Hamlet was published in 1603 and then promptly lost for an entire two centuries until it was rediscovered in 1823 in the library of Sir Henry Bunbury. Rather than printed from a manuscript of Shakespeare, Q1 seems like it may be a memorial reconstruction of the play by the actor who played Marcellus (imagine being in a movie, memorizing the script to the best of your ability, writing it down, and then selling "your" script off to the print shop), but scholars are still out on this (2).
Are you saying that Hamlet comes with the stageplay equivalent of a “deleted scenes and extra credits” movie disc?
Yep, pretty much! In fact, there are even more of these! Q2 was printed in 1604 and it seems to have made use of Shakespeare's own drafts, and rather than being pirated like Q1, it was probably printed more or less with permission. Three more subsequent quartos were published between 1611 and 1637, but they share much in common with Q2. The First Folio (F1) was published in 1623 and its copy of Hamlet was either based on another (possibly cleaner but likely farther removed from Shakespeare's own text) playhouse manuscript (2, 3). It was an early "collected works" of sorts--although missing a few plays that we now consider canon--and is the main source used today for many of the plays!
The versions of the play that we read usually include elements from both Q2 and F1.
So... Q1? How is it any different from the version we all know (and love, of course)? What do the differences mean for the plot?
We’ll start with minor differences and build up to the big ones.
Names and spellings
Most of the versions of Shakespeare's plays that we read today have updated spellings in modern English, but a true facsimile (a near-exact reprint of a text) maintains the early modern English spellings found in the original text.
For example, here is the second line of the play transcribed from F1:
Francisco: Nay answer me: stand and vnfold your selfe.
For the most part, however, the names of the characters in these later versions (ex: F1) are spelled more or less how we would spell them today. This is not so in Q1.
Laertes is “Leartes”, Ophelia is “Ofelia”, Gertrude is “Gertred” (or sometimes “Gerterd”), Rosencrantz is “Rossencraft”, Guildenstern is “Gilderstone”, and my favorite, Polonius gets a completely different name: Corambis.
(This goes on for minor characters, too. Sentinel Barnardo is “Bernardo”, Prince Fortinbras of Norway is “Fortenbrasse”, Voltemand and Cornelius--the Danish ambassadors to Norway--are “Voltemar” and “Cornelia” (genderbent Cornelius?), Osric doesn’t even get a name- he is called “the Bragart Gentleman”, the Gravediggers are called clowns, and Reynaldo (Polonius’s spy) gets a whole different name--“Montano”.)
2. Stage directions
Some of Q1's stage directions are more detailed and some are simply non-existent. For instance, when Ophelia enters singing, the direction is:
Enter Ofelia playing on a Lute, and her haire downe singing.
But when Horatio is called to assist Hamlet in spying on Claudius during the play, he has no direction to enter, instead opting to just appear magically on stage. Hamlet also doesn't even say his name, so apparently his Hamlet sense was tingling?
3. Act 3 scene reordering
Claudius and Polonius go through with the plan to have Ophelia break up with Hamlet immediately after they make it (typically, the plan is made in early II.ii and gone through with in III.i, with the players showing up and reciting Hecuba between the two events). In this version, the player scene (and Hamlet’s conversation with Polonius) happen after ‘to be or not to be’ and ‘get thee to a nunnery.’ I’m not sure if this makes more or less sense. Either way, it has a relatively minimal impact on the story.
4. Shortened lines and straightforwardness
Many lines, especially after Act 1, are significantly shortened, including some of the play's most famous speeches.
Laertes’ usually long-winded I.iii lecture on love to Ophelia is shortened to just ten lines (as opposed to the typical 40+). Polonius (er... Corambis) is still annoying and incapable of brevity, but less so than usual. His lecture on love is also cut significantly!
Hamlet’s usual assailing of Danish drinking customs (I.iv) is cut off by the ghost’s arrival. He’s still the most talkative character, but his lines are almost entirely different in some monologues, including ‘to be or not to be’! In other spots, however, (ex: get thee to a nunnery!) the lines are near-identical. There doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to where things diverge linguistically, except that when Marcellus speaks, his lines are always correct. Hm...
5. The BIG differences: Gertrude’s promise to aid Hamlet in taking revenge
Act 3, scene 4 goes about the same as usual with one major difference: Hamlet finishes off not with his usual declaration that he’s to be sent for England but with an absolutely heart-wrenching callback to act 1, in which he echoes the ghost’s lines and pleads his mother to aid him in revenge. And she agrees. Here is that scene:
Note that "U"s are sometimes "V"s and there are lots of extra "E"s!
Queene Alas, it is the weakenesse of thy braine, Which makes thy tongue to blazon thy hearts griefe: But as I haue a soule, I sweare by heauen, I neuer knew of this most horride murder: But Hamlet, this is onely fantasie, And for my loue forget these idle fits. Ham. Idle, no mother, my pulse doth beate like yours, It is not madnesse that possesseth Hamlet. O mother, if euer you did my deare father loue, Forbeare the adulterous bed to night, And win your selfe by little as you may, In time it may be you wil lothe him quite: And mother, but assist mee in reuenge, And in his death your infamy shall die. Queene Hamlet, I vow by that maiesty, That knowes our thoughts, and lookes into our hearts, I will conceale, consent, and doe my best, What stratagem soe're thou shalt deuise. Ham. It is enough, mother good night: Come sir, I'le prouide for you a graue, Who was in life a foolish prating knaue. Exit Hamlet with [Corambis/Polonius'] dead body. (Internet Shakespeare, Source #4)
Despite having seemingly major consequences for the plot, this is never discussed again. Gertrude tells Claudius in the next scene that it was Hamlet who killed Polonius (Corambis, whatever!), seemingly betraying her promise.
However, Gertrude’s admission of Hamlet’s guilt (and thus, betrayal) could come down to the circumstance she finds herself in as the next scene begins. There is no stage direction denoting her exit, so the entrance of Claudius in scene 5 may be into her room, where he would find her beside a puddle of blood, evidence of the murder. There’s no talking your way out of that one…
6. The BIGGEST difference: The added scene
After Act 4, Scene 6, (but before 4.7) comes this scene, in which Horatio informs Gertrude that Hamlet was to be executed in England but escaped:
Enter Horatio and the Queene. Hor. Madame, your sonne is safe arriv'de in Denmarke, This letter I euen now receiv'd of him, Whereas he writes how he escap't the danger, And subtle treason that the king had plotted, Being crossed by the contention of the windes, He found the Packet sent to the king of England, Wherein he saw himselfe betray'd to death, As at his next conuersion with your grace, He will relate the circumstance at full. Queene Then I perceiue there's treason in his lookes That seem'd to sugar o're his villanie: But I will soothe and please him for a time, For murderous mindes are alwayes jealous, But know not you Horatio where he is? Hor. Yes Madame, and he hath appoynted me To meete him on the east side of the Cittie To morrow morning. Queene O faile not, good Horatio, and withall, commend me A mothers care to him, bid him a while Be wary of his presence, lest that he Faile in that he goes about. Hor. Madam, neuer make doubt of that: I thinke by this the news be come to court: He is arriv'de, obserue the king, and you shall Quickely finde, Hamlet being here, Things fell not to his minde. Queene But what became of Gilderstone and Rossencraft? Hor. He being set ashore, they went for England, And in the Packet there writ down that doome To be perform'd on them poynted for him: And by great chance he had his fathers Seale, So all was done without discouerie. Queene Thankes be to heauen for blessing of the prince, Horatio once againe I take my leaue, With thowsand mothers blessings to my sonne. Horat. Madam adue. (Internet Shakespeare, Source #4)
First of all, the implication of Hamlet and Horatio's little date in the city is adorable ("Yes Madame, and he hath appoynted me / To meete him on the east side of the Cittie / To morrow morning.") It reads like they're going out for coffee!
And perhaps more plot relevant: if Gertrude knows of Claudius’s treachery ("there's treason in his lookes"), her death at the end of the play does not look like much of an accident. She is aware that Claudius killed her husband and is actively trying to kill her son and she still drinks the wine meant for Hamlet!
Now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for! My thoughts! Yippee! On Gertrude: WOW! I’m convinced that she is done dirty by F1and Q2! She and Hamlet have a much better relationship (Gertrude genuinely worries about his well-being throughout the play.) She has an actual personality that is tied into her role in the story and as a mother. I love Q1 Gertrude even though in the end, there’s nothing she can do to save Hamlet from being found out in the murder of Polonius and eventually dying in the duel. Her drinking the poisoned wine seems like an act of desperation (or sacrifice? she never asks Hamlet to drink!) rather than an accident.
On the language: I think Q1′s biggest shortcoming is its comparatively simplistic language, especially in 'to be or not to be,' which is written like this in the quarto:
Ham. To be, or not to be, I there's the point, To Die, to sleepe, is that all? I all: No, to sleepe, to dreame, I mary there it goes, For in that dreame of death, when wee awake, And borne before an euerlasting Iudge [judge], From whence no passenger euer retur'nd, The vndiscouered country, at whose sight The happy smile, and the accursed damn'd. But for this, the ioyfull hope of this, Whol'd beare the scornes and flattery of the world, Scorned by the right rich, the rich curssed of the poore? The widow being oppressed, the orphan wrong'd, The taste of hunger, or a tirants raigne, And thousand more calamities besides, To grunt and sweate vnder this weary life, When that he may his full Quietus make, With a bare bodkin, who would this indure, But for a hope of something after death? Which pusles [puzzles] the braine, and doth confound the sence, Which makes vs rather beare those euilles we haue, Than flie to others that we know not of. I that, O this conscience makes cowardes of vs all, Lady in thy orizons, be all my sinnes remembred. (Internet Shakespeare, Source #4)
The verse is actually closer to perfect iambic pentameter (meaning more lines have exactly ten syllables and consist entirely of iambs--"da-DUM") than in the Folio, which includes many 11-syllable lines. The result of this, however, is that Hamlet comes across here as considerably less frantic (those too-long verse lines in F1 make it feel like he is shoving words into too short a time, which is so very on-theme for him) and more... sad. Somehow, Q1 Hamlet manages to deserve a hug even MORE than F1 Hamlet!
Nevertheless, this speech doesn't hit the way it does in later printings and I have to say I prefer the Folio here.
On the ending: The ending suffers from the same effect ‘to be or not to be’ does--it is simpler and (imo) lacks some of the emotion that F1 emphasizes. Hamlet’s final speech is significantly cut down and Horatio’s last lines aren’t quite so potent--although they’re still sweet!
Horatio. Content your selues, Ile shew to all, the ground, The first beginning of this Tragedy: Let there a scaffold be rearde vp in the market place, And let the State of the world be there: Where you shall heare such a sad story tolde, That neuer mortall man could more vnfolde. (Internet Shakespeare, Source #4)
Horatio generally is a more active character in Q1 Hamlet. This ending suits this characterization. He will tell Hamlet’s story, tragic as it may be. It reminds me a bit of We Raise Our Cups from Hadestown. I appreciate that this isn't a request but a command: put up a stage, I will tell this story. Closing notes: After over a year, it was due time this post received an update. My main revisions were in regard to source verification. Somehow, in the last year or so, one of my old sources went from linking to a PDF of Q1 to a garden website (???) and some citations were missing from the get-go as a result of this being an independently researched post that involved pulling an all-nighter on Christmas Eve (but no excuses, we need sources!)
I have also corrected some badly worded commentary implying that the Folio's verse is more iambic pentameter-y (it's not; in fact, Q1 tends to "normalize" its verse to make it fit a typical blank verse scheme better than the Folio's does--the lines actually flow better, typically have exactly ten syllables, and use more iambs than Q1's) as well as that the spelling in the Folio is any more modern than those in Q1 (they're both in early modern English; I was mistakenly reading a modernized Folio and assuming it to be a transcription--nice one, 17-year-old Dianthus!) Additionally, I corrected the line breaks in my verse transcriptions and returned the block quotations to their original early modern English, which feels more authentic to what was actually written. A few other details and notes were added here and there, but the majority of the substance is the same.
Overall, if you still haven't read Q1, you absolutely should! Once you struggle through the spelling for a while, you'll get used to it and it'll be just as easy as modern English! If you'd prefer to just start with the modern English, I have also linked a modern translation below (source 5). And finally, my sources! Not up to citation standards but very user-friendly I hope... 1. Oxford English Dictionary 2. Internet Shakespeare, Hamlet, "The Texts", David Bevington (https://internetshakespeare.uvic.ca/doc/Ham_TextIntro/index.html) 3. The Riverside Shakespeare (pub. Houghton Mifflin Company; G.B. Evans, et al.) 4. Internet Shakespeare, First Quarto (facsimile--in early modern English) (https://internetshakespeare.uvic.ca/doc/Ham_Q1/complete/index.html) 5. Internet Shakespeare, First Quarto (modern English) (https://internetshakespeare.uvic.ca/doc/Ham_Q1M/index.html)
And here conclude we our scholarly tale, Of sources, citation, and Christmastime too, Go read the First Quarto! And here, I leave you.

Quarterly Debut Review: Q1 2024
Quarterly Debut Reviews are a supplementary series to my biannual Periodic Rookie Group Reports, which are published quarterly. Each installment covers three rookie groups that debuted over the past three months. For the fifth installment, I covered ALL(H)OURS (January), YDS (February), and Heimish (March).
As always, a full list of rookie groups that have debuted thus far in 2024 is available here: 2024 Rookie Groups Debuts
January / ALL(H)OURS Debut: January 10, 2024 Debut Song: “GOTCHA”
Although I have been tracking rookie groups for over a decade, I am no soothsayer. I cannot predict with any accuracy the number of new groups that will debut in 2024 or if more groups will disband this year than last year. Nor can I tell if the recent reversal of a multi-year decline in the number of boy groups I covered in Periodic Rookie Groups Report No. 22 is permanent or a temporary deviation. At best, what the numbers tell me is. 2024 is not off to a bad start, especially regarding boy groups. The four boy groups that debuted this year in January mirrors the previous year's total. While this may not crack 2019’s record of nine boy groups in January, it is better than 2018's where boy groups' poor performance was foreshadowed by a single debut at the start of the year.
No matter how this year shakes out for boy groups, it cannot be said that boy groups did not try like ALL(H)OURS who was one of the four boy groups to debut. Their name externalizes their ambition signaling, according to Korea JoongAng Daily, their intention to “pour everything it has at all times.” Their debut song doubles down on this message with the chorus, punctuated by a deep bass sound, emphasizing their laser focus on their goal.
Of course, it takes more than focus and hard work for idols to achieve their dreams—or stardom —in the industry. Those are only parts of an equation with multiple variables, many of which idols have no control over, including their image, musical director, or whether a group gets to come back and try again or build on the momentum. But at least ALL(H)OURS are committed to doing what they can do and working with what they have control over.
February / YDS (YeoDongSaeng) Debut: February 21, 2024 Debut Song: “A Fluttering Love”
YDS’s debut single “A Fluttering Love” can claim more so-called ‘firsts’ than your average debut single. The song is the group’s first release under a proper label, as well as, their official debut and first single. Contrarily, it is also the first song in the industry's history to qualify as both a debut and a comeback single, a fact that the marketing has not hidden but highlighted. On a teaser image released to promote the song’s release, above the two members seated back-to-back on a white table, it reads “YDS 7TH DIGITAL SINGLE ALBUM.”
This discrepancy in qualification is a byproduct of YDS’ unorthodox career trajectory. The duo began their career uploading covers of k-pop songs to their YouTube channel, before pivoting to producing their original songs in 2022. They released six singles and built up a small following before according to their December 2023 Instagram post, signing with HO Entertainment. Then as established above, in February they released their seventh single that doubled as their major label debut. In other words, unlike most k-pop groups who debut after being assembled through the industry’s traditional top-down method, YDS debuted in reverse.
While there are tradeoffs for both YDS and HO Entertainment for bypassing this usual path, I see the appeal. For HO Entertainment, in particular, it is a cost-saving measure. A group with a pre-determined lineup eliminates the need to recruit and train future members of a group, a process so expensive that according to the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA)’s 2023 Pop Culture & Arts Industry Survey, most agencies do not even maintain a pool of trainees. They also come with a pre-defined image and sound, which although certainly adjustable, HO Entertainment has left unchanged. Indeed “A Fluttering Love”, features their signature sweet acoustic sound and lyrics about a love confession. This is consistent with their previous releases, only this time it comes with a name attached to it and an accompanying promotional rollout, typical of your average group.
March / Heimish Debut: March 15, 2024 Debut Song: “Golden Hour”
So far, this year has gone according to Rainbow E&M’s plan. That plan, laid out across their 2023 year-end Instagram posts, indicated that they aimed to debut one group per month – a feat they have pulled off. Three months into 2024, they debuted at least one group under the Future Idol Asia banner every month: Flora in January, Bluebell in February, and now Heimish and Pearlys in March.
Practically speaking, these are all new groups in the sense that Future Idol Asia has never debuted a group under these names or with these lineups. Of the four groups that debuted, Flora and Heimish’s lineups are partly a patchwork of members from prior Future Idol Asia groups. In the case of Flora, of the group’s six members, four previously debuted under Redplum and Closer, respectively. As for Heimish, their group is comprised of one new member, two members of Blossom, and one member of Winsome. This is a byproduct of the nature of the project. As I have written before Future Idol Asia groups are not intended to be permanent homes for aspiring idols but a temporary waypoint on their journey. Ideally, a member who debuts as part of a Future Idol Asia group would catch the attention of an entertainment agency scout at a showcase who invites them for further auditioning before inviting them to join their agency. In reality, though not every member gets picked. For example, in the case of Closer, two of whose members re-debuted this year as part of Flora, only one of the ten members in the group was chosen for additional auditions with other agencies.
This poses a conundrum for the Future Idol Asia project, as they are left with groups with gaps in their lineup, although groups like Flora and Heimish point to their solution. Since last year they have been repackaging members from their previous groups into these new groups. That allows the project to pad its numbers, giving the illusion that the project has more recruits than it actually does, especially if recruitment does not meet expectations. More importantly, it also gives those not picked the first time another chance. With a new group, concept, song, choreography, and opportunity to perform at the showcase this time might be the charm.

Find a summary of the Q&A corner below the cut —»»
Q1: To which prefecture would you like to travel together? Wakana would like to go to Shimane prefecture because she received some amazing omiyage from there a while back (Yōkan). Q2: Recent items that have a healing effect on you? Obviously it’s plants for Wakana Q3: Do they buy Year-End Jumbo Lottery tickets? Yes, Wakana does indeed buy them and if she won, she would use the money for her plants Q4: Ways to calm down and work on blood pressure? Concentrate and think about the universe Q5: How would they spend a day if they lived together? They imagine it would be fun. Wakana is ready to do all the laundry because she loves it. Wakana doesn’t eat carbs in the evening so they would have trouble figuring out dinner since Yuuka prefers to eat carbs. Wakana is jealous that Yuuka manages to stay so thin even though she eats a lot of carbs. Wakana warns that she loses a lot of hair so that might be annoying for anyone who lives with her. Q6: If they could change voices, which of their respective song would they like to sing? They pretty much just praise each other’s voice here. Yuuka would love to sing Christmas songs if she had Wakana’s voice because she feels like Wakana’s voice fits these types of songs perfectly. Q7: Someone asks Wakana if she has bought a new microwave (since she mentioned last time that it’s super old and barely working anymore): She didn’t. It’s still working somehow. However, she did buy a bunch of other stuff but more on that later. Q8: Anything they would want as birthday present? Wakana wants a cordless vacuum cleaner (as we know, she bought one for herself at the beginning of the new year) Q9: Recommended cooking method: Wakana talks in detail about a gluten free version of an Okinawa Champuru dish. Q10: Something they like about each other? Here they are supposed to describe a positive character trait about the each other. Then they each react to the other’s thoughts and confirm whether that’s an accurate description of their character. Yuuka describes Wakana as very bright and cheerful. Mainly because she has been talking a lot since the get-go. Wakana is afraid this particular trait of hers might come across as annoying but Yuuka really likes it. She admits tough that she did feel a little overwhelmed at first because she couldn’t explain how someone’s switch was just always turned on, no breaks, no downtime, nothing. Q11: Any recommended instruments for playing and tips how to stay motivated? Wakana tries to play a bit of piano but she hasn’t been very diligent with her practicing so she is really not the right person to provide any type of encouragement or support. Wakana recommends just listening to the sound of instruments and choose what you like best when deciding on what to start playing. Q12: How have they progressed in the past year? Wakana has made some improvements on her neck by doing lots of exercising and stretching. Q13: How to spend Christmas as an adult? Eat chicken and cake. Have some red wine. A good meal is more important to her than presents. Q14: What was the most surprising thing that happened this year? Wakana finally realised that the right combination of air-con and humidifier is the best way to stay warm in winter. In the past she refused to use air-con heating due to the dry air. Q15: How to memorise lyrics for a live? Endless repetition and trying to come up with a simple story that makes it easier to memorise everything. Q16: Ever experienced a time leap or deja vu? Not really. She is often reminded of other stuff or experiences nostalgia but nothing else. One weird thing though: Sometimes she will dream of people contacting her and then they actually end up contacting her soon after. Q17: Have they visited Ghibli Park? Any other such places they would like to visit? No, unfortunately Wakana hasn’t been able to visit yet. But she wants to, especially after seeing everyone’s reports. Q18: Any artist/work (anime, drama, show, etc) that influenced your life a lot? They go off on a tangent and talk about idols. Wakana mentions a group called “Travis Japan”. Seems like she used to be quite obsessed with them. They even were on America’s Got Talent. Q19: The thing you worked hardest on this year? Wakana worked hardest on her music. Basically what she always does. But she also tried to drink more water and focus on skincare. Q20: Recommended Christmas book? She shows a few books

and i took that personally.
I actually was going to use this headline for 2022, but (Taylor’s Version) seemed a better fit at the time, and looking back on ’23, well, I really did take this year personally.
One charge I am not beating is that I quote The Tempest every time I write about the ups and downs of aging: “Nothing ... doth fade, / But doth suffer a sea-change / Into something rich and strange.” However I’ve yet to find something that captures how bizarre life is better than the phrase “rich and strange.” This year was certainly no different. If you couldn’t tell from the abstruse posts about feeling insecure online, I definitely Went Through It (or at least lower case went through it, lest I be too overly dramatic here) with a strange friendship with a semi-notable person this year. It burned bright and fast and like all other normies who come into the orbit of people with a modicum of notoriety, even if you can hang, it hurts to get dropped for a shiny new thing. The best thing for me to do was to step away from Twitter in August and never look back. Sometimes I miss knowing what stupid thing is going on online (#GagCity) however, if I ever get around to finishing my novel, it’s great fodder for plot. (“How do you serve cunt in a roman à clef way?”)
Besides that personal drama, which wasn’t too bad (frankly, I just got caught up in a one-sided friend crush that took up a majority of Qs 2 and 3), the year was filled with so many interesting things: The movies are back, baby! Country music’s revival won me over. I went to Germany, Switzerland, England, Ireland, and I met a special needs Alpaca named Waffles in Litchfield, CT. Succession ended (RIP Kendall I could fix u), and The Bear’s Copenhagen episode made me cry. I read 30 books, and not all of them were garbage (though some of them truly were). I discovered a brown butter buttermilk cake recipe that I can't quit. It felt like live events were properly in the mix again too; I was able to convince more people to go to Cyclones games with me, but I’m still hitting up Lincoln Center solo (don't men know this is a big date flex??). And how could I not brag about seeing my favorite artist, Ed Ruscha, in the flesh at the opening night of his retrospective at MoMA. But I’ll get into all of that and more below.
Since this annual recap is not a tradition I’m willing to step away from and never look back (yet), here are my highlights of 2023:
Books
Thanks to my SAD in the winter, I plowed through the bigger novels in Q1 (e.g., Confederacy of Dunces, I Have Some Questions For You, Birnam Wood). Though the best books I read this year were slimmer like Big Swiss, Cleopatra and Frankenstein, and Trespasses. I believe someone tried to trendcast this, but I think short books have been a thing since ... checks notes ... people started reading? I am still trying to figure out if I cared about The Guest, but I suppose a sense of low-lying dread and hating the narrator meant it worked. I tried to add more urban history into the hold list (NYC, LA, and Palo Alto), but couldn’t get through the latter two before year-end so that’s going on next year’s reading challenge. Seeing as I do LA every January anyway, I’ll save the California books for the West Coast.
I’m a little disappointed that there weren’t many novels I couldn’t put down this year. But I really did focus on contemporary fiction and I think next year I should spend more time on both nonfiction and “canonical” works that I still haven’t gotten around to yet. That is, it may be time to start reading like my dad.
Music
If Spotify is to be believed (it is), I was in.my.feelings. this year (I was). My erstwhile friend crush was a huge Country head, and I am grateful that brief friendship brought more Country--both classic and contemporary--into my life. (I have joked that women will inhale an entire discography/filmography/oeuvre in a weekend for a crush, but honestly show me the lie.) I’ve always been into Americana and bluegrass, but it was good to dig deeper into true country. At the pottery studio I would start with Johnny Cash and just let the algo take it from there for the next 3 - 4 hours. Beyond the musicians I was already listening to a lot (John Prine, Willie Nelson) I listened to more Townes Van Zandt, Nikki Lane, Jess Williamson, and Tyler Childers.
But of course my top artists were the same as every year: Coltrane, Paul Simon, Prokofiev, Steely Dan. Dean Wareham came up huge for me because I think I played “The Last Word” maybe 400 times this year. You get to the 2:53 mark with the sun shining on Memorial Day Weekend? That’s heaven on earth.
Music was my sanity this year more than it usually is. I had my sad playlist (Jeff Buckley, The Smiths, SZA) for the myriad breakup walks; my Drake playlist for running; my jazz playlist for cooking; and my work party afterparty playlist was even dowloaded by the bar for future use because I spent HOURS figuring out the best arrangement of Beyoncé into Fleetwoord into Dua and they got it.
I also spent a lot of time behind the wheel with the windows down listening to prog rock, too. Told you I was going through it.
Movies
As the year progressed, my already incoherent listening habits became very movie-forward. That is, I started putting on more movie soundtracks to work to (Nebraska hive we stay riding!! Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross run me over with a truck!!!) and I basically only ended up listening to podcasts about movies (Big Pic, Blank Check, Rewatchables). But the synergy between music and movies was strong this year, as evidenced by the thrilling re-issue of Stop Making Sense and the Eras/Renaissance films. (As always, I implore you to listen to Wesley Morris about everything, forever.)
After leaving Twitter, Letterboxed became my primary Social Network (lol). Thankfully it’s helping me keep track of what I watched this year. I did a lot of back-list catching up: I watched all the Miyazaki Studio Ghibli films in time to catch The Boy and the Heron the week after I got to The Wind Rises. In no particular order, my favorites: American Fiction, Oppenheimer, No Hard Feelings, Fallen Leaves, Past Lives, Maestro (but that’s because of Lydia Tàr), and because I quite sensibly spent most of this year catching up on Tom Cruise’s entire filmography, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, pt. I. This man will do anything to save cinema! I love it!!!!
The Lawyer Movie Draft match up of Blank Check and Big Pic was one of my favorite podcast episodes of the year. I definitely re-watched The Firm and The Pelican Brief after it. Luv u too, Michael Clayton.
Odds & Ends
My two goals this year were to leave NYC once a month and see a concert/show once a month. I was close to 100% on both, which was nice. If you go to Dublin, be sure to check out Bar 1661. I had an amazing lunch at this Italian place in Bern, Switzerland. If you are in London, I demand you go to Fortitude Bakehouse. As always, the BEC on a croissant at Arethusa is a religious experience. And Zapp’s chips + oysters + wine + this view in Maine = I can die happy.
I saw three live podcast tapings--my second time seeing both Odd Lots and Who? Weekly and my first time seeing How Long Gone (I’m not proud of it, but I love those two bros and John Early was a great guest). Relatedly, Kate Berlant's one woman show lived up to the hype and Just For Us made me laugh enough I told my folks to see it. I finally saw ABT do Romeo & Juliet at the Met, and there were too many classical concerts to count (highlights being: the Made in Berlin string quartet at Lydia Tàr's Berlin Philharmonic, the Emerson String Quartet performing Shostakovich No. 12, and Chamber Music Society presenting the full Brandenburg Concertos).
On the TV front, for what I lost in Succession this year, I look forward to getting back in Industry next year. My "Smooth Brain Award" for best background streaming goes to And Just Like That and Suits for being too dumb to function. A friend has promised to watch The Curse with me, but that has yet to materialize. At some point I'm going to have to get Apple TV back so I can finally watch the new season of Slow Horses, the first two seasons of which I binged in about a week in February.
Since I’m not actively tweeting, I’m going to put my in/out list here. I was actually on the money with some of my predictions from last year (all light yellow everything and bankruptcy is chic again) however none of you fools got on the “friends holding hands in an 1800s novel way” and I didn’t see enough old bay fries at the bar to make me happy. Let’s see if I can improve my trend casting odds for 2024:
IN: robin’s egg blue, Acting Like You've Been There, cassis and soda, Harvey Wallbangers, Meg Ryan's curly hair in When Harry Met Sally, pretending you know how to sail, whistleblowing, marbled paper, voice notes.
OUT: hard seltzer, oversize blazers, Substack, the pop punk revival, calling things “transcendent,” renter’s insurance, engagement announcements on social media (just get married), Reykjavik, Threads.
I’m probably wrong on all fronts! This take on my predictions is likely also my mantra for 2024. Happy New Year, and to the two to three people who read this whole thing, may it bring you peace and prosperity. Praying the world becomes a little easier to be alive in next year, though I’m not sure that’s how things work these days. If I don’t abandon this effort entirely next year, I’ll be sure to recount what rich and strange experiences came about...

Q1: 2022 was a special year for Eunchae. What’s the most memorable scene? It’s hard to choose one for the most memorable moment, but I want to choose my debut showcase! Before the stage LED door opened, I was standing in the back, holding poses nervously. It was when there were only a few seconds left of the moment I had dreamed of so much. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.
Q2: Just by looking at your expression, you can convey the overwhelming emotions at the time (laughs). Today’s pictorial also contains Eunchae’s bright energy, was it fun? I was excited because it was my first solo photoshoot (pictorial). I was excited because it also captured my personality and real appearance as it is. Depending on the pictorial concept, there are times when I become ‘dark’, and there are also times when I burst out laughing and smiling. It’s fun to put it differently every time.
Q3: Even in school, you were full of energy to the extent of participating in the student council and sports club, right? I am the kind of person who couldn’t stand still. I was very cheerful. I like to exercise and run around, so I play soccer with the guys and I think I look forward to PE class the most.
Q4: You were the last trainee to join LE SSERAFIM I remember the exact moment I heard that I was joining the team. Since I didn’t have a long trainee period, I vaguely thought that I would’ve enough time to practice tomorrow or the next day. But the opportunity came so suddenly. I was so grateful but at the same time I was scared. But still, with great luck my dream of debuting came to me, so I made up my mind to do well.
Q5: So your heart became stronger at that moment Starting from joining the team late, and getting used to it, to learning the choreography also recording, it wasn’t an easy job to do as a first timer. Looking back at the times I was running toward my goal of debuting now, it’s really precious and I’m proud of myself for doing well.
Q6: Even though It’s been two months since the tittle track for the 2nd mini album ‘ANTIFRAGILE’ release, it’s getting more and more love right now. What did you worked on the most while preparing for this song? Because I wanted to show more sides of myself that I couldn’t show in the debut song ‘FEARLESS’ and do better, so I had a different mindset for this song. If I started promoting my debut song without knowing anything, it turns out I became more nervous because ‘ANTIFRAGILE’ is my second promotion. The genre was unfamiliar and I was worried whether people would like it or not, but I was surprised and it’s amazing that it’s getting more love than I imagined. It also doesn’t feel real that it got 2nd on ‘Melon TOP 100’!
Q7: Especially on this part “Walk like a majestic lion / eyes glinting with so much desire” we could feel Eunchae’s unique color. It might sounds like you’re singing it lightly, but it sticks in your ears (easy to listen to). I thought it was an attractive part from the moment I heard it in the guide version, turns out that became my part! The vocal teacher said that it would be better to sing it indifferently as if it were annoying, and it fits so well. It’s fun and interesting to see reaction like “it sticks in my ears/catchy” or “it’s strangely addictive”.
Q8: Did you know that the viewers also received a lot of energy from LE SSERAFIM unique moves like walking and kicking choreography? Do you gain strength by doing all of this move? It’s really tough physically, but interestingly, expressing the same movements on stage doubles the energy. It gets more intense than when i was doing it in the practice room, I think LE SSERAFIM has the best stamina (laughs)
Q9: Despite the intense choreography, your expression didn’t get disturb for a moment I went on stage with the mindset of raising my energy as much as possible even for a short time so that I won’t be embarrassed if I see it later, also so that I can show you everything I have. Maybe that’s why?
Q10: The girls who moved forward without fear in ‘FEARLESS’ grew more in ‘ANTIFRAGILE’. Now beyond fearless, they also have become hard enough not to break. Has Eunchae also changed her mindset or attitude just like the message of the song? When we were preparing for our comeback, we had schedules and practice, unlike our debut song. We were busy preparing for end year show performance as well so it was tiring. But, I wanted to be on stage, so I casted a spell on myself to become ‘ANTIFRAGILE’. I was worried with the members as well about whether we would be able to complete this song well and make a comeback, or whether I could pull off this difficult choreography a few times during recording, but in the end it worked. We worked really hard and at some point it was completed. We even said among ourselves, “ it’s really ‘ANTIFRAGILE’ that we went through a setback and completed a stage that’s better” (laughs)
Q11: As soon as you debuted, you received a hot response, it must’ve been a sudden spotlight on the team, but Eunchae is full of confidence as if you’re meant to be on stage. How do you get rid of your nervousness? I started doing this because I liked singing and dancing. I would be nervous or worried that I would make a mistake, but when it came to it and I stood on the stage and heard our song play, I thought “Right, I’ve come all this way to do this” and I felt a boost in my confidence. I’m not really the type of person who gets nervous that much.
Q12: I think I get the reason why the members find Eunchae so cute (laugh). How does it feel to be the maknae who receives all of LE SSERAFIM’s love? I don’t know much about the maknaes of the other teams, but I feel safe because of the four moms, I mean the unnies, that I have with me. There are a few times when it’s a little burdensome or pressuring to have them call me insanely cute even if I say just one thing, but I really enjoy it myself (laugh).
Q13: Each one of these four “moms” has a different character, don’t they? Can you introduce them all one by one through Eunchae’s point of view? I’m someone who can pick up on things really quickly, and Sakura unnie knows that too. One day, she told me this in passing, “You don’t have to be that quick to notice things. The maknae doesn’t need to be so cautious.”. I don’t have to be so aware and I can do whatever I want to do, and that unnie will do all the difficult things for me. Unnie might not remember that, but it really struck a chord in me. For Chaewon unnie, when I had first joined the team I was incredibly shy, and she would ask me if I was having a hard time and if I was okay. Those memories are still fresh in my mind. Yunjin unnie is like my real older sister, when she cuts some fruits up she feeds me a piece, and leaves them in the fridge for me to eat later on. And when I’m sitting still she says “You’re really cute” right away (laugh). Kazuha unnie is really thoughtful and kind-hearted. She’s someone who’s considerate about even the most trivial of things and puts others before herself.
Q.14: You’re all full of affection. So, what do you like best about yourself? My bright personality? I laugh a lot so that’s why the unnies call me cute, but when I’m quiet it’s like the fun gets sucked out of Hong Eunchae. But I just like myself the most when I’m loud, acting like a kid, and laughing a ton. When I’m laughing, all my worries disappear.
Q.15: What do your school friends, who you laugh and chatter around with, now say about how you’re putting yourself out there in the world? Even so, I asked my closest friend about that, but since they know about all of the effort I’ve made even before becoming a trainee they said “I know that you’ve worked hard, so I’m also proud of you”. Maybe it’s because we’re so close that it was a luke-warm response, and instead of seeing me as a celebrity they just always say “Eunchae you looked pretty on TV today” to me (laugh). They said that being around other celebrities was more fascinating than me promoting as one!
Q.16: They waited for you to ask for their response, you really are besties. Deep down, I could feel that they’re proud of me. When we walk together in the streets and our song plays, or when a dance team performs a LE SSERAFIM song for a festival, I feel happy when they say “That’s your song playing!”.
Q.17: You’re turning 17 internationally next year, and you’ll finally get your registration card, what’s the thing that you want to do first and foremost? I don’t really know what I want to do, but I first want to get pretty photos taken for my ID photo. I’ve seen Chaewon unnie’s ID photo and she looks so youthful and beautiful. I think I’ll be in great spirits if I get a pretty photo of me taken.
Q.18: What are lyrics among LE SSERAFIM’s songs that give you strength or you just like in particular? I like the lyrics ‘Even if it’s different from my fancy expectations / looking plain and shoddy / Find the good parts the good parts’ from the song “Good Parts (when the quality is bad but I am)” that’s on our new album. There are times when we make ourselves look great and fancy on the outside, but sometimes we can fail to meet expectations and feel like we don’t look so good. So I think that the message of “I love myself even if I’m lacking” is really cool and I want to have that mindset as well.
Q.19: What part in this line of work do you love? This may come off as being shameless, but hearing the loud cheers when I’m dancing and singing on the stage is just electrifying. I loved dancing so I started this job, and I have a huge desire to perform (laugh). The preparation period may have been really difficult and bleak, but back then just imagining that I could be doing all of this on stage made me feel like there was nothing I couldn’t do no matter how busy or exhausted I was.
Q.20: In the documentary “LE SSERAFIM – The World Is My Oyster” which records your journey to debut, you talked about your modest yet strong aspirations by saying “I want to make myself known to many people…”. Do you think that you have enough courage to “get to that amazing ending” just like the lyrics of “FEARLESS”? I don’t think I can say that I have enough, but I’ve gotten confidence from doing this album’s promotions and the year-end performances. Since now I know that there are so many people from across the world saying that our music and performances are cool!

There is no perfection. There are people whom we let down and vice versa.
I feel guilty towards Evana. No words can describe the feeling. In her perspective, I was not there when she needed me. While it’s true, I was also having mental problems, almost commit the unthinkable.
What is right and what is wrong? There is no answer when emotion and relation are involved. It’s not a simple mathematical problem.
Hurt stays in heart. Takes time to heal. I don’t dare to think Evana would forgive me, although I carry with that hope.
My thought was to keep her safe during that time, I would think it’s the best option for her. But what is best for her in my eyes may not be best for her in her eyes.
She only sees her mom leaves her. Couple with Rawang’s siblings adding fuel to fire. I can’t blame others because others’s action is something I cannot control. It really don’t justify in others’ eyes including Evana.
It’s painful.
If I can turn back time, would I have make a different decision? At that time, it was the best decision.
I miss Evana. Her dad is trying his best to get rid of me in her life. I no longer be able to see her, I couldn’t talk on the phone with her, I couldn’t do anything.
There are still days I get the attack. I’m still not 100% cure but I am more stable now compared to before. But does this matter when Evana didn’t want me in her life anymore?
The initial plan has always been migrating to Au with Evana in Q1 2022 but got delayed due to visa issue. Postponed it to April 2022, but in March 2022, everything changed. In western countries, anxiety attack is the word. In Chinese culture, I am being attacked by unseen entities. Whatever it is, it’s a dark period of my of life. Prior to that, Evana has always been part of the migration plan.
I struggled from March 2022, almost can’t make it for Christmas and hang on that little hope that I will be cured. Chinese medium and western doctor, from drinking “fu” water to eating medication- nothing helps. God knows how much I was struggling, blessed me with Sky as my pillar of support and Amanda to go through the rough ride together.
I then met Marco out of coincident, who helped minimise the attacked, I decided to take a leap of faith and head to Au in Sept 2023 as a journey to recovery and hoping I can sort the visa out to sponsor Evana to Au. That’s if everything is this perfect but how can life be so perfect, it’s not.
I can’t blame Evana from her perspective. She is too young to understand the sickness I was going through and from her view, it did seem like I have abandoned her. Not true.
She’s always in my heart. I just didn’t know how to approach her with that hatred she had towards me. Ironically my 2 nephews love spending time with me but I didn’t get the opportunity to spend it with my own daughter. It’s very sad.
No one, and I sincerely say, no one should ever go through any mental breakdown period. No one can comprehend what’s really happening during mental breakdown period unless they experience it themselves but this is something I wish NO ONE should ever go through, even if they don’t understand, so be it. That said, I rather Evana not understand it than to have her experience the same pain.

The new life for your old AM radio (DIY micro power AM MW transmitter AMT-MW207)
Are you the type of person who likes listening to good ol' radio like I do? Unfortunately, medium-wave broadcasting has decayed in the last few decades. There's nothing in many areas, even at night when medium wavelengths work best. That’s why the radios from our childhood stay unused and collect dust.
Today, we will make a small medium-wave radio transmitter that can help you check and configure AM radio receivers and listen to music through them if you connect an MP3 player or smartphone.
The power of this transmitter is 0.0005 watts, and the range is about 3 feet, so you won't disturb your neighbors or need a license for it. The transmitter is AMT-MW207 and was developed by an enthusiast under the nickname "Radio Lover". The circuit is proven to work perfectly and stays unchanged, but the layout of the PCBs can be different. For example, here is the newest and perhaps most nice-looking version 1.3 revision 2, dated September 15, 2022.
I've assembled ver. 1.2 rev. 7. It has a green board, no frequency scale, and the wavelength adjustment knob is located at the very bottom of the board. I consider these differences to be purely aesthetic. The transmission frequency can be viewed much more accurately on the screen of a separate frequency meter or oscilloscope.
Older versions are less convenient to attach the testing hook of the oscilloscope to, and they have no cutouts in the back of the PCB for winding up excess wire. The differences are generally insignificant; all versions of the transmitter work and sound the same.
The DIY kit was designed and kitted with passion: brass fittings, high-quality AA battery holders, and neat resistor value markings.
The potentiometer volume knob was not forgotten either; they also got me a good 3.5 mm TRS-TRS cable. In fact, this is an important detail. You sure can twist the variable resistor's shaft without a handle. Still, you won’t be able to connect a player or a laptop if there is no connecting cable. You won’t be able to try out a freshly assembled device, which will ruin the mood.
The transmitter circuit is simple yet elegant. Transistors Q1 and Q2 are a long-tailed pair, and Q3 is its current stabilizer.
A transistor current stabilizer is an emitter follower whose load is a resistor R6.
According to Ohm's law, the current through this resistor will be equal to the voltage across it divided by its resistance. The voltage at the emitter of a transistor connected to a circuit with a common collector is similar to the voltage at the base minus Vbe.
Vbe, the voltage between the base and the emitter for a particular transistor, is an almost constant value. Nothing is ideal, so Vbe actually depends on the temperature and base current, but these influences are tiny and can be ignored.
R3 and R4 together are a voltage divider. With a supply voltage of 6 volts, the current through this divider is 6V / (R3 + R4) = 6V / 59.2 kOhm = 101 µA. We neglect the base current of transistor Q3, which is connected in parallel with R4. I will explain why later.
The voltage at R4 is 101 µA * 8.2 kOhm = 828 mV. As Vbe = 0.63 V, resistor R6 gets the remaining 199 mV. Then, the current through it will be 60.3 µA.
The emitter current of transistor Q3 is the sum of its collector and base currents. The collector current is β times the base current, where β is the current gain coefficient of the transistor.
The average value of β for the 9011 transistor is 90. That is, the collector current is 60.3 µA * (β-1)/β = 60.3 µA * 89/90 = 59.63 µA.
The base current is 60.3 µA / β = 0.67 µA, less than 0.7% of the R3R4 divider current. Therefore, the base current can be neglected even in such a microampere case due to the fact that Q3 is connected as an emitter follower.
That is, it has a very high input impedance. It can even be calculated: Rin = Vin / Ib = 199 mV / 0.67 µA = 297 kOhm.
Even if our transistor has twice the current gain, β = 180, then the input resistance of such a stage with a common collector at an emitter current of 60 μA is twice as high and equals 594 kOhm.
So, the base current of Q3 is almost zero, and the collector current is almost equal to the emitter. The emitter follower has a high input impedance and can also serve as a voltage-to-current converter and a stable current generator.
This can be useful in many cases, for example, when powering LEDs. Or for generators of linearly varying voltage, their capacitors are charged with a stabilized current. Hence, the voltage across them increases linearly. In the era of cathode-ray oscilloscopes, such generators were used to deflect the beam horizontally.
In addition to the constant voltage from the divider R3R4, an audio signal is supplied to the base of transistor Q3. Identical resistors R1 and R2 mix stereo down to mono. Capacitors C1 and C2 let alternating current pass through and block direct current.
Potentiometer W regulates the amplitude of the signal. With the same voltage divider as R3R4, only the ratio of the resistances of the upper and lower branches can be changed by turning the knob.
So, transistors Q1 and Q2 form a differential amplifier. The total current of these two transistors, set by the current stabilizer on Q3 and modulated by the incoming audio signal, is redistributed between Q1 and Q2, depending on the voltage difference at their bases.
Collector Q1 is connected to the power supply positive terminal. Thus, the output of the differential amplifier is the collector of Q2, the inverting input is the base of Q2, and the non-inverting input is the base of Q1.
Resistors R7 and R8 set a constant bias for the bases of Q1 and Q2. Let's assume that the input impedance of each of the inputs of the differential amplifier is 100 kOhm.
Then, the current I1 will be twice as high as the current I2. After all, base Q2 is directly connected to the node between R5 and R7, and base Q1 base is connected through resistor R5 with a resistance equal to the input. That is, the base current, and therefore the collector current, for Q1 will be half as low.
We get a system of equations: I2 = I1 * 2; I1 + I2 = I3 = 60 µA.
The solution to the system of equations is I1 * 3 = 60 μA; I1 = 20 µA; I2 = 40 µA. These are precisely the reference current values that the author of the scheme mentioned in his explanations.
Older versions of the board, if you look closely, had jumpers for you to connect a multimeter as a microammeter and adjust the operation modes of transistors with trim potentiometers, which should be soldered in place of R3, R5, and R7.
However, judging by everyone's experience, these transmitters work perfectly with the included resistors and need no tweaking. Therefore, jumpers were removed from the new versions, but the holes for trim pots were left on the PCB.
The load of the differential amplifier is the LC resonant tank L1C4, and the output is connected to the non-inverting input through capacitor C3. The inverting input is grounded for alternating current by capacitor C5.
We have the Colpitts generator, which we've studied in the previous post! The only difference is that it is assembled not on one transistor but on a three-transistor differential amplifier.
C4 is a variable capacitor for adjusting the oscillation frequency, and L1 is a ferrite rod wound coil of the transmitting magnetic antenna.
The L2 coil connects an oscilloscope, frequency meter, or spectrum analyzer. You can also try connecting an external antenna to it to increase the transmission range. This won't help much because the operating currents of our transmitter are only tens of microamps, but it won't hurt either.
youtube
This transmitter sounds high-quality. Of course, you can clearly hear that this is an AM radio because this is indeed a real AM radio! The quality of FM transmission is much higher, which is one of the main reasons that it has replaced good old AM.
The sine wave on the oscilloscope screen looks nice at first glance. But if we look closely, we will see that the upper half-wave is slightly pointed, and the lower one is rounded and even a little flattened.
From an article about a homemade tube amplifier, we already know that such a waveform indicates a significant presence of the second harmonic and a small admixture of the third harmonic. For a powerful transmitter, this would be bad, but for a compact one, it is fine.
By the way, the eight-transistor superheterodyne in the video is also a DIY project. If you are interested, I can write another post on this and my other radios with a detailed description.

top 5 lando races
and
top 5 lando outfits
oooo these are fun and also so difficult
Lando races in no particular order:
1. Austria 2020 - baby boy's first podium, and tbh still in awe of how he closed a gap of about 6.5 seconds to 4.8 across just over a lap and a half to get himself within 5 of Lewis to snatch P3
2. Silverstone 2023 - I mean come on, P2 at his home race? amazing quali, fantastic start to get ahead of Max, opening 4.5 laps all his ~ "and it's Lando Norris who leads the British Grand Prix!" ~ he was so good with his tyre management and his battles with Lewis with the SC restarts and the wheel to wheel? Silvo 23 will ALWAYS be special
3. COTA 2022 - now I am not COTA's biggest fan but 22 was a special one, Lando catching the debris that snapped off one of his front fairings but still a phenomenal performance and his overtakes, add in the last 2 lap battle with Fernando (whose clash with Lance caused said debris) really enjoyed Lando's drive
4. Mexico 2023 - I just love the recovery drive, from getting fucked in quali by a technical issue that saw him out in Q1 unexpectedly, to playing it smart and cleverly strategy wise to make it back to 5th and the overtakes carving through the field (the ones on George and Daniel stand out a lot) and add on despite it probably not being easy he seemed to really enjoy it
5. Imola 2022 - Lando being the only driver not in Red Bull/Ferrari/Merc to get a podium felt so good to watch, especially since the MCL36 was not that bitch
special mentions too because I love all of him: Singapore 23, Monaco 21, Suzuka 23, Austria 23, and as painful as it ended Sochi 21 because that was a mega mega mega quali and drive from him
now onto the outfits, again in no particular order:
1. something about his whole vibe that weekend
2. pls don't ask me just look
3. real soft spot for this one, and I personally love the colour combos
4. Vegas GP? hated it, but this look? mhm mhm
5. GQ did sooooo good
bonus: he's very very cute but if this shirt is extortionate I'm killing him

What happened to Redmi K series in India & POCO F Series??
This blog was originally available on Revue (by Twitter) & was written back in June, 2022 before the launch of Redmi K50i,
As the Revue is getting discontinued, I am making this interesting thread available on Tumblr,
I have tried some alternative platforms to continue my blogs & finally decided to do that on Tumblr. This will be the place, where I will share the details which I can't share on any Community
My Twitter handle will be my primary platform to communicate with everyone & everything that I would do in other platforms will be shared to there.
Many of you must be wondering what Redmi is doing like literally after Redmi K20 Series launch in 2019, they are going to bring back Redmi K series as Redmi K50i in 2022 in India (it’s the renamed version of Redmi Note 11T Pro for India) & why POCO is rebranding original Redmi K phones under POCO F series, right?
Give me a chance, I am explaining what has actually happened in past few years. If you found this article useful, informative & interesting then please share to your friends & family members who might be interested in this.
Why this has happened?
Xiaomi's thinking of flagship market in India: -
Redmi in India always had the plans to bring the successor of Redmi K20 Pro in India, as POCO had for POCO F1’s successor as in form of POCO F2 originally in 2019 (yes, you read it right) In Q1, 2020, we had the Covid outbreak throughout the country. Redmi K30 4G was introduced to India as POCO X2 for POCO’s comeback.
POCO F2 was originally planned
Long before, people had asked the Xiaomi team to bring flagships to Indian market. This had happened till Mi 5. But Xiaomi India wanted to focus on majority share of Indian Smartphone market which is in budget segment (>₹5k - ₹15k), so they established the identity of “M-I” as budget friendly brand & missed the great opportunity for flagship competition with OnePlus in India.
Observing people’s request for flagships priced at aggressive pricing Mi MIX 2 was introduced. But this didn’t set that great impact on the Indian industry. And for this Xiaomi India didn’t bring that much flagships till 2018, later in 2020 with the introduction of Mi 10 in Indian market, this thing got changed.
In 2018, to change the scenario POCO brand was introduced. F1 did that what we all know. Looking at the success of POCO F1, Xiaomi decided to do the same on with Redmi. So, they introduced Redmi as their 2nd sub brand after POCO during the launch event of Redmi Note 7 series in Q1 2019. (Source)
POCO was the reason for the birth of Redmi K
Redmi K series was introduced to walk on the same path of POCO F1. Few guys still don’t know that how “K20” word came up. This actually made up from “Flagship Killer 2.0”.
youtube
POCO's point of view on this: -
Many people must not know that POCO F2 was a thing. Yes, it was planned to be launched back in 2019 in its original form. This was scheduled to happen just after Redmi K20 series India launch/ Mi 9T series global launch. After this device got launched to Global markets, few days later this was planned to be launched as Redmi K20S for Chinese market. But, very sadly this plan was cancelled. If this had happened, we shouldn’t be seeing POCO to be called as “rebranding brand”. We may have seen the alter reality.
I have covered POCO F2 in POCO Community India (Here’s the link of that thread, I have shared the details in here), and after getting the invitation for the beta testing of it, my first ever thread was on POCO F2 (by this I think you guys can get an idea how I am emotionally attached to POCO, I even had made this silly Tweet once, now don’t take this Tweet seriously 🙈🙈)
POCO F2 Black variant Prototype
POCO F2 Green Variant Prototype
POCO was also determined to re-enter the Indian & Global smartphone market.
Redmi in India always had the plans to bring the successor of Redmi K20 Pro in India. In Q1, 2020, we had the Covid outbreak throughout the country. Redmi K30 4G was introduced to India as POCO X2 for POCO’s comeback.
You guys must know that Redmi K30 Pro came to global markets as the POCO F2 Pro. But this wasn’t planned for Indian market. C Manmohan had said POCO F2 Pro won’t be coming to India & this won’t be POCO F1’s successor. (This is the source article confirming my statement. In this article you will see that C Manmohan had addressed this on an interview with Amit Bhawani.)
youtube
During a fan meet-up at this same time, Manu Kumar Jain had said that Redmi K30 Pro was coming to India as Redmi K30 Pro only. The source of this statement is from Techno Ruhez’s Tech news (at that time I didn’t know about Mi FCs & that the people in these FCs get chance to meet/ talk with Xiaomi officials, so after knowing this I joined the Mi FC Kolkata Telegram group actually🙈🙈. And during this time like a normal fellow, I used to watch Tech Youtuber’s contents daily)
Redmi K30 Pro was coming to India as Redmi K30 Pro only
But, as the Covid situations got worse & the lockdowns got extended, launching a ₹40K phone right after Mi 10 was big gamble for them.
In an online meeting on Zoom, Manu Kumar Jain was talking about Redmi K30 Pro (Screenshot taken from YouTube)
youtube
At this time, many people came to online (who weren’t that much active on internet before), online classes, job meetings, more OTT contents consumption happened like never before. So, people preferred budget smartphones for this & it’s the same reason why Android Tablets are back again in the market.
So, observing the industry needs of that, Redmi K30 Pro was dropped for Indian market. Maybe Redmi K30 5G/ Redmi K30i could have been in their plans to bring as non pro version of Redmi K30 Pro in India, I don’t know about this.
Redmi K30 Series was planned to be launched for India
Even Mi Note 10, Note 10 Lite were in their plans for bringing in the Indian market, but this decision was also dropped.
They focused on budget Redmi 9 series & Note 9 series for the demand of public back in that time (and Mi Community India ban also happened by this).
Later Mi 10T series was brought to Indian market as to provide the essence of budget flagship (but it lacked Amoled for which it didn’t receive well response)
In the meantime, POCO originally had the plans to bring F1’s successor to India, introduce M series right after X2’s launch. But, Covid + Lockdown hit their plans. It’s believed that they had the plans for recreating POCO F2 for India. Redmi K30 Ultra was planned to be brought as the “POCO F2”.
But after observing the situation which wasn’t right in that moment, the plan was again dropped. Their main focus was to work on their biggest product for 2020 “POCO X3”. This is why C series was introduced. As the C series was introduced in the 3rd Generation, that’s why it has “POCO C3” naming. (If you guys follow me on Twitter, then you guys should have seen that I have explained their nomenclature & recently discussed about the updated naming scheme in their 4th Generation, I’m sharing the link of that Twitter thread)
C series wasn’t planned in the first place
The things we started seeing from 2021: -
In early February 2021, Redmi K40 series was launched in mainland China. In March 2021, Redmi India introduced Redmi Note 10 Series Globally.
In this year, Xiaomi India had planned to differentiate their products in Xiaomi & Redmi brands.
I can still remember that we had been invited in the “Redmi Note 10 Series Indian launch Event Watch Party” which was happening on over a Zoom Call arranged by Gitansh Anand Sir.
After the Launch Event was done & all of us went wild after watching the prices of Redmi Note 10, Note 10 Pro, Note 10 Pro Max, a Q&A Session on these products was arranged with Raghu Reddy Sir (Ex CBO, Xiaomi India). In that session we were given a hint that “Redmi K40 Series was coming to India”.
Later you all know that Redmi K40 became POCO F3 for Global & Mi 11X for Indian market and Redmi K40 Pro+ became Mi 11i for Global & Mi 11X Pro for Indian market.
Finally, Redmi K40 Gaming got launched in Chinese market & this came to Indian market as POCO F3 GT.
Why rebranding happened?
From 4th generation of K series, Redmi made it as budget flagship with aggressive price point. Since in global markets the og “Xiaomi” phones & various accessories do sell well, that’s why og Xiaomi products work in global markets.
POCO Global introduced F3 as almost at the same price of Pocophone F1, they were able to utilise that opportunity. And POCO India had brought POCO X3 Pro as the successor to POCO F1, but to redefine POCO F, they needed to go with K40G as POCO F3 GT.
In other hand, Indian smartphone Industry has the mammoth share of market in “₹7k - ₹15K”, the >₹20K market has slightly evolved & people who were buying flagships were directly preferring phones >₹40K. Phones at ~₹50k were placed as flagships by Oneplus (iQOO wasn’t in the competition before this). If one was going up >₹55K, then people were preferring Samsung Galaxy S in Android & Apple iphones.
So, bringing actual Xiaomi branded Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro was like a gamble which Xiaomi India understood with Mi 10. So, budget flagships with aggressive pricing were their choice to go with. That’s why, Mi 11X series happened.
This is why we are watching og Redmi products in Indian market with either Xiaomi or POCO branding nowadays.
And for Global markets POCO is launching the Redmi Products with their customizations to bring in aggressive pricing.
POCO-Redmi was planned with POCO F2 - Redmi K20S from 2019
This is why we have now POCO F4 series.
Return of Redmi K in India: -
I have said in this blog that, Redmi India has always tried to bring the K series back to Indian market. But since, Redmi K series is flagship offering from “Redmi” brand, now Redmi in India can’t put the K in their desirable price point, this can become too much expensive & a crazy gamble in 2021 right after lockdowns of 2020.
So, finally in 2022 the Redmi K is coming back to India in the form of “Redmi K5Oi”. Here “i” stands for “India”, i.e., “i = For India”.
Well, this is an unreleased product at the time of my writing, so I should not be talking about it that much, but I can assure that in that price segment where it’s coming in, will be the “most powerfull smartphone” and gamer’s delight. For your kind information Redmi Note 11T Pro which is launched in Global markets as POCO X4 GT & this is coming as Redmi K50i in India.
This was also planned to be launched as POCO X4 GT in India as the successor to POCO X3 Pro’s performance icon, but Redmi needed this device to reboot K series for India.
Hope that you guys liked my blog & understand what has happened in past 3-4 years with POCO F & Redmi K. I also hope that you have understood why this happened. I tried my best to make this in simple language with interesting & informative presentation.
I have one request, if you guys liked & found this blog as helpful, please share this to your friends & family members who are also interested in Xiaomi & POCO.
I personally want all Xiaomi & POCO Fans to know about this Globally. I have explained those topics which used to be unknown/ not understandable to most of the people. Hope that everyone read this blog.

April is here! Time for our big End-of-Q1 Progress Update!
I would like to start off by thanking everyone who auditioned for our casting call and congratulating those who made the cut! We had 184 submissions in the end!! We loved hearing all of your spectacular voices and it was a tough decision. In the end, these are the four who will be bringing these characters to life. Once again, congratulations!
In case you missed it, we now have a TikTok. You may see different types of content on there. We will see how that goes. I don’t think I was meant for TikTok, but I will happily answer any questions that come my way on there. Tumblr will always be my home.
Without further ado, let’s get started. What were our goals for Q1 and how’d we do?
Not bad! I actually went ahead of schedule and the final route is now programmed AND tested as well as written!! The GUI, however, has given us some trouble so we are tabling that for now while we focus on other things. It can be Q3′s problem.
Let’s look at where we are percentage-wise...
Look at that! Two columns completely checked off! Just thinking about how far we’ve come in the past few months alone...wild.
Regarding testing, I am upping the routes to 20% complete because even though all of the assets aren’t in, we made a ton of fixes and changes with that first round of testing. Woohoo! We are coming right along!
Now let’s peer into the future at our 2022 Q2 goals...
Taylor (dat me!): -Program voice clips -Create Steam page -Marketing madness -Video Editing (Credits, Intro, Trailer, etc.)
Alex: -Acquire/trim final voice clips from newly cast VAs -Soundtrack hell The soundtrack is a big one, so that will stretch throughout the whole year. I look forward to sharing a number of Alex’s tracks with you! They’re phenomenal. Seriously, they have all of these built-in motifs and symbolism. Pure art.
*gasp* *gasp* Jeez, this is a long update BUT I’M NOT DONE YET.
Keep an eye out for when Band Camp Boyfriend hits Steam! We’ll be announcing our release window then. With that, I feel people will be able to take us more seriously. I can corner them in abandoned buildings and ask them to wishlist us or stream us or talk about us on their blogs. I am trying to build up the courage to do so because I hate feeling like I’m bothering people! But this is just what comes with making your game known, I guess. And I really want it to be known!!
Lastly, if you are wondering just how long Band Camp Boyfriend is, it is...drumroll, please...
Over 500k words! Which I think amounts to...30 hours of playtime? Probably more since you have to go through the common route a few times over to reach your desired man. I have no concept of time so I am going to ask my 7 deadly beta testers to report back how much time they log playing the game. It will be worth the price of admission, I assure you.
That’s it for me! You deserve an award if you read all that. Have a wonderful week and thanks for sticking with us!

q1 2022 update with seo yuseong !
"go ahead,” he says with a warm smile towards the interviewer. “i’m ready to answer your questions — although i can’t promise that you’ll be getting any juicy details!” the questions are of a more personal nature and while yuseong intends to be as open and frank as possible, there are also types of questions that he naturally will have to censor information for.
how do you choose who you spend your time with?
“hmm…” he hums softly to himself at the question, running through his brain the different people that he has chosen to interact with thus far in his life, but particularly in the past two years that he’s been a trainee. up until this point, all the people he had interacted with had not been people he had chosen to spend time with, but people who had simply been around him in proximity. if he really considers it, the people that he chooses to spend his time with now tend to have characteristics in common. “i guess… it really depends on how they make me feel,” he says slowly, his expression contemplative. “i like to spend time with the people who make me feel happy or safe.”
who is the most important person in your life?
“this is a hard question,” he says with a small pout on his lips that is quickly taken over by a friendly smile. “how am i supposed to pick between the three most important people in my life?” his lips quirk up in a wry smile and he shakes his head slightly, contemplating what his answer would — even should be. “i think it’s changed as i’ve grown up. when i was really young, i would say it was my mom. it changed to my dad as i got a little older and started wanting to emulate him. now? i guess it would have to be nuna.” he pauses for a moment before he grins to himself, suppressing a small chuckle. “to be honest, if you asked my parents, i guess they would always say that it was nuna. i’ve followed her around since i was old enough to walk.”
have you ever felt truly loved by someone else?
“of course i have!” this question startles a smile out of him, one that’s slightly disbelieving and his expression softens as he thinks about the people who have really gone out of their way to show him love, and he thinks that the person who has shown him love endlessly is obvious. “maybe you expected this, given my previous answer,” he says sheepishly, lips quirking up at the corners in playful shame, “but nuna. she’s always been hard on me in the sense that she pushed me to do better. if i did something wrong, she would correct me, but at the same time, she would also always pat my hair and tell me that she believed in me. i think she really showed me how much she loved me because she wasn’t afraid to tell me when i was wrong.”
what’s your idea of romance?
here, he blushes slightly at the question. call him silly, but he has very strong ideas about the topic of romance and exactly how appreciative one should be of the person they’re in love with. he wants it all — dinners by candlelight, walks in the park, quiet mornings and nights spent together, kisses to the forehead, the warm rush of happiness that floods him when he thinks about them — he wants to make his significant other feel loved in every action he does.
unfortunately, being in the trainee life has taught him that the entertainment industry often does not support romantic gestures and relationships in general. saying everything he thinks about romance and how to express love? that might be a bit much for this interview.
“maybe i’m a little silly,” he divulges instead, “but i think there’s something especially soft and special about forehead kisses.” his smile here is a little bit shy, and he can’t help but look away, a faint blush staining his cheeks. “i think that it’s the little things that show romance,” he says without looking directly at the camera. “the little things that let you feel love.”
how do you show someone you care about them?
this question ties in surprisingly well to the previous question, he thinks, even if this new question encompasses more than just romance. "like i mentioned just now,” he starts with a soft smile, “the little things are important. not just in romance, but in friendship, too.” he settles back a little bit in the chair, gesturing vaguely with a hand. “like... remembering the small things people like and dislike. that’s something i think is important.” he pauses for a moment before continuing, “i think listening is another way to show someone that i care... being there for them for the good and the bad.” he shrugs a tiny bit, a helpless little shrug accompanied by a shy smile. “well, those are some of the ways, at least.”

plot call.
hi homies, with the new year upon us a lot of new exciting stuff coming up i figured it was time to make a new plot call, down below i’ll mainly detail what yena’s q1 will look like and all that. please feel free to come annoy me for plotting be it by liking this post, sliding into my ims or hitting me up on d*sc*rd: winter gf goeun#5703 . i do want to preface that i am gearing up for exam season which means i may be a lil all over the place, maybe i’ll be around a lot when i’m evading studying, maybe i’ll mainly be around in very sudden bursts activity, please don’t mind me to much yes? i will try my best to get back to y’all in a timely manner and if i don’t, pls feel free to nudge me!
okay so, hot damn, q1 will be a very ??? quarter from yena
she’s been on a bit of a pink cloud ever since she was informed ab calypso having their first concerts since like the one (1) japan concert they did like a decade ago
and then dimensions decided to burst her bubble and tell her those concerts will p much the only thing they have planned for calypso
yena just straight plunges back to rock bottom, it’s not a pretty sight, she kind of got lulled into a false sense of security with two comebacks back to back and the concerts so the realization that calypso is still very much so a dying group is an Extra bitter pill to swallow
it makes her... a hot mess ngl
alcohol tw // yena will spend even a more concerning amount of time being drunk cuz we love a sexi bitch that lacks healthy coping mechanisms idk man she’s absolutely on the verge of a meltdown but trying real hard to play it off as fun party girl thangs, still, anyone that deals w drunk yena these first months of 2022 can easily tell shes a lot more emotionall volatile and being intoxicated makes her a lot more loose lipped ab how much this stuff is fucking her up
she’s also... a lot bitchier. a lot of her uglier personality traits are bound to surface for a bit, there is a lot of envy towards groups that are better off than her, not limited to dimensions artists, it definitely Hurts to look at say selene/lily/ultraviolet/candy and see how well theyre doing as well, boy groups arent spared, fuck men and how much easier being succesful comes to them
though dimensions ent will DEF feel her jealousy streak as well, esp w/ the one happy family narrative the company is pushing, if she has to film lil dms diaries things w ppl she will probably barely hold it together on camera and immediately turn bitchy/cold/annoyed as soon as they’re done
this is rlly the era for yena to ruin some of her better connections cuz she’s being a bitch okay her insecurities are eating her alive
and then march rolls around and yena is like messy bitch era OVER new phone who dis
no literally she’s giving me emotional whiplash with just how big the change in headspace and general emotional wellbeing will be for here
the second she sees rollin’ climb the charts she will be on top of the world and honestly besties idk when she’s coming back down
ofc a lot of it will be typical yena arrogance, yes she’s the hottest bitch alive, no other group is on their level, calypso relevant icons etc etc etc
but for anyone that has like,,,, an ounce of knowledge ab Actual Yena they’re quick to pick up on the fact she’s, very much in disbelief, kind of feels like she’s in a dream
she has put a lot of work and energy and all that in calypso and for that to finally pay off is HUGE for her, it will also aid in finally stabilizing her some, making her overall less emotionally ????, a very large part of her sense of self relies hinges on this and it finally gives her a turn for the better
idk she’s super excited and just very excited to get to share these things with her friends, it will really show how there is things that have become so common to many of her friends in more succesful groups that she didn’t really get to have as part of calpyso or that if she did were very short lived
on a less positive note, anyone who she really was shitty towards during the first half of the quarter is very much allowed to retaliate and call her out on her shit, yena will try to make amends but well, it’s up to them to decide if they want that or if she broke something she can’t fix
but yes rollin’ going viral and topping the chart and all that really kicks of 2022,,, the year of nam yena,,,, and as much as she claims it’s all about her being in her nation’s it girl era, there is a lot of underlying emotional stuff underneath all of that that will also finally start to look up
things will be good, we just gotta power through the first two months first and well... good luck to anyone that’s dealing with that
#famedcall#✿ — ooc.#//this is less so concrete ideas and more so a lot of me rambling but i hope it might be workable for ppl?#//im gonna be working on some character development and possibly even an open starter in the next week or so but#//i hope this functions as a starting point for 2022 plotting for now?

Additional cast members were also announced:
Yumiri Hanamori (Nadeshiko Kagamihara in Laid-Back Camp) as The Witch of Muddy Darkness:
- An unidentified witch who appears in a scene that Seville, who has lost his memory, can only slightly recall. She has a somewhat otherworldly atmosphere and knows about Seville's past.
Comments by Yumiri Hanamori
Q1. What are your impressions of this anime?
"Albus has grown up, Thirteen is no longer there, and Mercenary is still the same... It's a nostalgic world where things change and the things that don't change are mixed together. I'm sure those who loved Grimoire of Zero will be pleased.
Q2: What is your impression of the character you play and your enthusiasm for the role?
"I never thought that the day would come when I could play Zero (The Witch of Muddy Darkness) again. I'm happy, really happy. Please look forward to seeing what happens to Zero and Mercenary after they finish their big journey!"
Masaaki Yano (Jyaka in I'm Standing on a Million Lives) as Mercenary
- A "beast fallen" mercenary in the service of the witch who rules the village where the special training takes place. He has the features of a huge, white, feline beast, and gives off a strong sense of intimidation to anyone who confronts him.
Comments by Masaaki Yano
Q1. What's your impressions of this anime?
"I was full of excitement, like I want to go! I want to be one! Magic and beastmen are real!!! There were so many things I loved that I couldn't keep up with my emotions. I'm excited to see how the story develops and how the characters bond with each other. Personally, I love beastmen, so this is great!"
Q2: What is your impression of the character you play and your enthusiasm for the role?
"It's fluffy! That was my first honest impression (laughs). But he has a lot of experience in his words, actions, and behavior. I hope I can pick up on that and express it. I will do my best to play the role of a mercenary in my own to be of help to the work and to make everyone who sees it enjoy."
Masaaki Mizunaka (Keisuke Baji in Tokyo Revengers) as Minister:
- A minister who works at the church in the village where the special training takes place. He has lost his eyesight, so he covers both eyes tightly with a belt. Perhaps because of his wariness of witches, he often speaks in a rather harsh manner, and has a somewhat tense atmosphere.
Comments by Masaaki Mizunaka:
Q1. What's your impressions of this anime?
"With magic as the keyword, I found myself getting more and more into the story as I watched each of the characters take action while having their own conflicts. The interactions between Seville, Loux-sensei, Hort, and Kudo are exciting to watch, and it make me watch over them. I'm looking forward to the day when I can see them move and perform magic in animation."
Q2: What is your impression of the character you play and your enthusiasm for the role?
"Minister is a calm and intelligent person. I find it very attractive that he speaks clearly and plainly to others, and that he has an unfathomable and mysterious aura. I am very honored to be able to play such a character, Minister. I will do my best to bring out the best of his charm and make 'The Dawn of the Witch' more exciting together with everyone. We would appreciate your support!"
The previously announced cast is as follows:
Shuichiro Umeda (Izumi in Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie) as Seville;

Crunchyroll announced at Anime NYC that the series will stream for users in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS. Crunchyroll describes the series as below:
I can’t remember. Who am I? What am I? Seville is a student at a magic academy who has no memories of anything from before he joined the school. Not understanding why he’s there, the time he spends at the academy feels hollow and empty. And since he doesn't know how to work hard, his grades are always the lowest in his year. Then, one day, the school headmaster, Albus, orders Seville to participate in a dangerous special training. "I want you to spread the use of magic in an area where they hold witch hunts." It has only been a few years since the war between the church and the witches came to an end—the world has not yet fully accepted witches and their magic. This is the dawn of the age of the witch. This is the story of how a young man, a boy who is no one special, and his companions, who all hold wounds in their hearts, set out and end up finding themselves.
