Weekly tag Wednesday! 🏷️
This week we are going to talk about leisure time!  Let’s do some relaxing, shall we?
thanks for tagging me @mybrainismelted @energievie @lingy910y
Name: gigi 🌿
Location: this week i am in twilightland PNW, on a very picturesque island that’s sending unwanted visions of a siren au gallavich fic into my head
Age: 24 years 363 days (almost 25! woohoo brain development)
You have an unexpected extra day off work or school!  What are you going to do? Go out the night before sleep without an alarm and then go to one of the museum exhibitions that are too crowded on the weekend
What is your favorite way to spend a summer day?  At the beach! Or having a picnic in the late afternoon, definetly a rooftop party
What is your favorite way to spend a winter day?  Inside, watching movies for most of the day, but definetly going out for ice skating
What do you do to unwind at the end of the day?  Write fanfic + listen to music or draw + watch TV.
Do you play any sports?  I run daily! it’s amazing for my mental health and mood and just makes me feel very calm and centered. Sometimes i play tennis and i used to play other sports as a kid/teen. Surfing whenever i go home.
Other than fanfic, what is your favorite genre to read?  literary fiction novels mostly, some design theory and history.
What is your comfort movie/tv show?  twin peaks and the x files, ghibli movies, amelie and ratatouille and julie and julia
Do you write or draw?  both! i only started creating fandom about 18 months ago and i really appreciate everyone’s support on here while i’ve been figuring out my voice and style haha
What other arts or crafts do you do? outside of digital fandom art i work in most mediums for my personal practice, except oil painting. I’m an architectural designer irl so that’s an art. And bookbinding!
Describe your perfect breakfast:
eggs in hell with nice fresh bread and a damn fine cup of coffee

10, 20, and 30 for the ask game
10: What do you think of Gerald Gardner?
Without him, my tradition would not exist as it does now. It might not have reached out from the UK over all the way to my corner in the PNW. What would the world of Witches look like without the explosion that he helped cause? I think a lot about that. I've been working on my degree elevation and really contemplating the beliefs and practices, some that are his direct creation. And I have to be honest, as a queer woman, I have a lot of mixed opinions on things. He has had a lot of good influence, a lot of crutial influence. However, it doesn't omit the harm he has done. I've read a lot about him, heard things from a lot of different people (both within and outside traditions that stem from "Gardnerian"), and watched/listened to his interviews. Part of me wants to completely ignore it and certainly witchcraft evolves with the peoples that practice it. That said, I know that would be irresponsible of me to do. I believe, for a faith to remain healthy and relevant, its vital to acknowledge all truths within it. To face questions that don't have a universal answer. Anyone that is turned off from Wicca or "Gardnerian" influenced paths is within their right to. In fact, I can completely understand why.
But here is my opinion, I see him as a human being. He isn't exempt from criticism and consequence just because of his contribution to the modern renaissance of occult and pagan practices. He was a product of his time, but also a prisoner to his own faults and ego. Yet, I understand that there is no way of knowing if he would change his opinions on homosexuality and queerness in general. His death was during a time when the world was a very different place. Despite all this, there is also the chance that a lot of this could be false. Gerald was a figure of controversy and often was a trickster, as described by those close to him. He also had a lot of critics. To elevate or degrade him won't do any good.
He is a good example why you shouldn't idolize people like they're superhuman. And thankfully, no one really does that with Gardner (at least in my circles).
20: Do you research ex-pagans viewpoints with an open mind?
Its not something I've done in a long time, not since I first decided to explore different spiritualities back in my late-teens to early twenties. Part of the reason I took a bit to answer this was to actually research a little.
Its never too late to change yourself, to seek out something different. Its healthy to allow yourself the freedom to explore and educate yourself through experience and study. I am saddened when I read about people leaving due to tramatic experiences within the pagan-sphere. The truth is that there are a lot of inidivuals and groups that act in bad-faith, abusing the trust of seekers. No one belief system is above bigotry and cult fanaticism. Its wonderful to read when people leave because of their own personal choice fueled from their desire to truly explore and understand their faith and spiritual selves. One of my core beliefs is that the spiritual is a journey, so we should question ourselves, our practices and the goodness they bring into our lives. Healthy introspection is they key to a happy and healthy life.
30: What do you think is a scam in witchcraft?
Not really a scam per say, but…I really hate it when some of the more "obscure" occult/pagan publishers don't really do anything to prevent 3rd party sellers from buying their stock in bulk, to resell for insane prices. Its not a good look ¯_(ツ)_/¯

500 words written today and I think? I finally? finished the flashforward? which means I can rearrange the chapter(s) tomorrow? -- well, I started doing it now but that's a quick copy-and-paste job and I don't know if where I broke tonight is where I actually want to break. (reminder: I am splitting one chapter into two for length and pacing reasons.) Plus I need to do edits, but that's just edits and not writing any new scenes. Some of them might be substantial edits, but not too bad, I think. /she says hopefully.
Weird day in general today; staying indoors because we had weather in the teens with a much lower wind chill, which, like, I am from the PNW, so I have had worse, but I'll take an excuse to not go out, you know? Watched The Marvels, made a giant batch of gumbo (I feel like I can never get it right anymore and I don't know what happened), did some reading for class prep and dissertation even though I generally try not to do work at least one weekend day. (Tomorrow won't fly, I teach on Monday.)
Snippet from Of Home Near chapter 13.
“Can we –”  Stark waved an arm at the holograms. “This is ruining the mood, I’m depressed enough already.” “This is ruining the mood?” Rocket muttered as Banner leaned over the table. “Also, what mood?” The holograms flickered out of sight as Banner found the controls.  It left all of them staring at each other, the room suddenly much smaller without the ghosts the holograms promised.  Bucky pressed his palms together, then his thumbs to his forehead, trying to stave off both what had the grim beginnings of a headache and the feeling of being suddenly vulnerable.  It wasn’t as though he wanted or needed the reminder of what they had all lost in Wakanda, but their sudden absence left him feeling vulnerable and exposed. “I realize I’m new here,” Danvers said slowly, “but that’s not supposed to be there, is it?” Bucky looked up. There was a quarter-sized circle of glittering green energy hanging in the air, probably originally concealed by the flickering holograms.  Bucky slid down from the edge of the table he had been perched on, wary and figuring that of all the people in the room, he was probably one of the most likely to survive it if it turned out to be inimical in any way. “Yeah, that’s not supposed to be here,” Rhodes agreed.

Tagged by the fabulous @cauldronofmorning for eight shows to get to know me! Thanks so much for the tag!
1) Twin Peaks. Agreeing with Char on this one. One of my friends calls it “Pacific Northwest Gothic” and I couldn’t agree more, especially as a girl named Laura from the PNW. Thankfully my life is far more blessed than Laura Palmer’s. It’s really one of the most influential shows of all time. All of the procedurals or dramedies that came after, especially ones with weird avant-garde feels to them, might not exist without Twin Peaks. One such show that has Twin Peaks all overs its DNA is:
2) Yellowjackets. It’s a young show that I’ve only recently become obsessed with, but it’s like somebody put all my favorite narrative choices in a blender in a way that doesn’t feel pandering.
3) Succession. It’s pretty enthralling, innit? The comedy-drama line is a very tricky tightrope, and damn if Jesse and co. don’t knock it out of the park every time. We really get under the skin of these terrible, terrible people, and you find yourself empathizing at least once with every major character.
4) Columbo. As for shows that might have influenced Twin Peaks, I wonder if Columbo was one. They have surprisingly similar vibes, at least sometimes. Columbo himself is a more slovenly, seemingly absent-minded precursor to Dale Cooper. They’re both unconventional weirdos with hearts of gold who present the opposite to the standard cynical TV sleuth -- not to mention they wear the same raincoat, only Coop’s is crisp and clean next to Columbo’s...less crisp and clean coat. There’s also that kind of groovy, mellow ‘70s vibe that can get very unsettling very quickly. I never get tired of watching Columbo.
5) Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. I’m grouping them together in one because BCS wouldn’t exist without BrBa, and they both do scratch many of the same itches for me. Magnetic casts and writing that transcend the genre -- again, and this might seem like a stretch, I see the DNA footprints Twin Peaks left behind in that the tropes get flipped upside down. Sometimes you’ll start the show on a little boy capturing a tarantula or a closeup of ants devouring a dropped ice cream cone. Pure Lynch.
6) The Simpsons, I’d say about the first eight seasons. It first aired when I was close to two years old, so I don’t remember a time in my life without it. My dad was at first a little nervous about letting me and my sister watch because of how intense Itchy and Scratchy was, but darn it, he wanted to watch it and he rightly knew we would have been little nightmares to deal with if he didn’t include us. It shaped my sense of humor, while also ruining a lot of good kids fare at the time. If you’re raised on The Simpsons, Sesame Street probably won’t do it for you. I do kind of regret that, I think The Simpsons probably made me a bit of an insufferable kid. I still don’t know who I’d be without it in those formative years, though! Too bad it’s now the bloated corpse of what it once was, and I stopped watching years and years ago. It was a sad day when I realized there are now far more bad seasons than good.
7) Mystery Science Theater 3000. Another one that shaped my humor early in life, although not as consistently as The Simpsons. I actually don’t remember seeing it at all apart from my early years until my teens, when the Sci-Fi channel started airing them. I’ll always be a Crow girl, I am not original in that regard.
8) It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I hate a lot of their choices especially in the early seasons, and I won’t defend those choices. But I do see growth in how they choose to satirize the world without falling into the trap of appearing to endorse it. (Most of the time). It’s the funniest cast on Earth with the funniest writing on Earth. Little green ghouls, man.

Hi! I saw your tags on the poll and I was wondering if you could talk a little bit more about why you dislike living in the PNW? I've been trying to move there so want to get a local's opinion. Ty :)
Oh shit i don't want to do anything to shatter your dreams but be warned this is the one topic i am very bitter and jaded about. Please ask someone else too because while I hate living here other people DO love it and you should make an informed decision!
Being said.... here we go. I've lived in the Seattle adjacent area my whole life. In fact my family has been in the area for six generations and all of us hate it here more than the previous generation as we've watches the area develop. Maybe I just come from a bitter and jaded family. Maybe my specific town or county is the problem. I don't know. I'm not going to break this into bullet points or organize my thoughts or anything I'm just going to ramble.
But as the years go by, everything has gotten more expensive. But despite the raise in sales and property taxes, the area is less and less maintained. The roads are abysmal. The Public works projects such as maintaining shrubbery to ensure sidewalks follow ADA clearance and pedestrians can be seen, have been thrown to the wayside. The schools and other public buildings arent maintained and often just get replaced after they start falling apart. Every year there is less of a welcoming feeling to the area. Every year beloved businesses and entertainment venues are closing down and being replaced with churches and bars. Conservatives are creeping into the area and shutting down YMCAS, qanon maniacs are being voted into mayoral office. I have personally ripped down pro nazi flyers at the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL here. The drug problem is seemingly unstoppable. Regularly there are reports of millions of dollars of coke and fentynal being seized by the feds. People are dying every day in large quantities from the drugs. Ive watched a lot of people i love lose themselves to drug induced psychosis. Thefts and burglaries and violent crime related to drugs are rapidly on the rise. 1/3 of my hometown is unhoused and thats only people who have reported/admitted to it. Not counting couch hoppers and people trading work for housing at hotels. The schools are getting worse by the year. The elder of my two younger brothers graduated because they were giving out answers to end of year exams to boost their graduate stats, probably because of previous drop out rates. 23% of MY graduating class, including myself, dropped out because the quality of the education was so awful they just got GEDs instead. Violent crime is on the rise, especially around notable twilight locations such as Forks and Port Angeles. The numbers vary but in my specific town you need to make a minimum of 27/hour to afford a single bedroom apartment. If you can find a job that pays that much or an apartment. Good luck because it's not very likely. Last summer a woman asked a community page the same thing and specifically asked for info on what the area is like for teens. She ignored a lot of comments about the negatives from teens themselves and moved here anyway. This summer she posted her son has gotten into drugs and run away from home. I hate to say it, I know it's tasteless, but she should have listened. Cause and effect maybe. I hope her kid comes home safe. I also hope she learned a lesson about not ignoring advice when she asks for it.
I stay here because my family is here. My partner's family is here. Our jobs pay decent. But if I were single and impulsive, I'd bail the fuck out of this state as soon as I could.
Yes, it's beautiful here. Yes, there's cool festivals and parks and museums. But the PNW is not the land of dreams or opportunities unless you have a lot of money and resilience to facilitate it.
Make the choice that's best for you, anon. But please don't forget the negatives because you can easily get sucked into a life of drugs and poverty.

Time for my yearly life update that future me will read and look back on. In the past year and a half since my last update, I got a dog! I absolutely adore her, she is quite literally the rock that has kept me sane through even the roughest days. I transferred departments, and now work at our DV shelter. While I loved being able to be deep in the action and navigating crises, it has also become exhausting and draining. I have worked long shifts, and gone days without proper sleep. I love (most) of my team members and have become a vital part of the team but I started exploring other options. This was all thanks to the therapist I’ve been seeing for the past year. While working closer with DV, things from my childhood get brushed by other’s stories and it definitely brings up icky feelings I felt and experienced as a child so therapy was a must. But she also taught me that looking out for myself is not bad so I responded to a recruiter from the IRC and am just not waiting for the job offer. I didn’t decide to leave because of being triggered but because I’m stuck in this weird limbo. I am assistant manager but can’t correct people and my supervisor, I love her sm, struggles with correcting people and the quality of work our shelter does has severely declined. I currently wear three hats under my job and it’s nonprofit so the pay is measly. I can’t in good faith, continue watching clients get shit advocacy from our staff so I believe the best I can do for myself is to step away. No one but my close friends know and I’m terrified of what’s to come. The best thing that has came out of this transfer is my best friend. We have the same taste in music and have gone to so many concerts, I know teen me inside is thriving. We go explore new food places and have just clicked so well. I’ll miss seeing her everyday but we’re adults and can still meet. Anyway, beyond my professional life I also enjoyed the wonders the PNW had to offer. In an attempt to give my dog the best, my fiancé and I did extensive hiking. It was definitely excruciating at times but the views were worth it. Plus the greasy food and ice cold diet cokes after 8+ mile hikes were absolutely worth it haha Look at the cool views we saw!

September '24 reading diary
Trying to wrap up some reading challenges in progress, because I started this month with only a few prompts left! I have the rest of what I need to finish checked out now, so I'm excited.
Started off with The Rainbow Age of Television: An Opinionated History of Queer TV by Shayna Maci Warner. Some things I knew and things I didn't, well-researched, with some very nice interviews.
Finally finished the Witcher series with The Lady of the Lake, which made me cryyyy. This was a satisfying end with a lot of interesting elements, but I've been feeling some "bad things keep happening to Ciri" fatigue and my level of interest in characters when she's not on page is wildly variable, so I feel like I might end up not reading the much more recent prequel? We shall see.
Another Agatha Christie book, Elephants Can Remember. I was a bit "eh" on this one! This one really suffers from using vague unspecified mental illness to scare, and I guessed the solution unusually early. Ariadne Oliver and Hercule Poirot are a favorite of her team-ups for me, though, and there's a really great description of Ariadne being bugged by fans while they try to figure out who shot whom and why in an apparent suicide pact cold case at the request of Ariadne's goddaughter.
I'm trying to read more of the f/f books on my tbr. I like it as much as any other category, but I haven't found as many authors of f/f that I like, and have already read all theirs that I could.
Except, it turns out, that I forgot that Courtney Milan is the author of Mrs. Martin's Incomparable Adventure, which was recommended to me ages ago for having older protagonists. This is a great novella, about women in their 60s and 70s who start a relationship while collaborating to get an abusive man in trouble. I haven't read the rest of this particular Victorian series and didn't need to, but I will--it includes some of Milan's books with mains of color.
I've also gotten into Ashley Herring Blake! I devoured Delilah Green Doesn't Care and it's so great. Delilah is both messy and sympathetic, Claire is darling, and I'm really invested in their friends and family, so I'm excited to see them all again in the sequels. I'm already reading about Delilah's sister in Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail. I'm really glad I tried these, I thought they'd be twee and they're not at all. (I am really distracted by them living in a different Pacific Northwest Bright Falls than the PNW Bright Falls in the Alan Wake horror video games.)
And two very autumnal middle grade books! The Halloween Moon by WTNV cowriter Joseph Fink, about a 13-year-old girl sorting through her feelings about growing up, and about being the only Jewish kid in her school, while she stops the supernatural Queen of Halloween from ruining her favorite holiday by turning it into a sinister eternal night. Lovely.
And Jolly Foul Play, the next Wells & Wong mystery by Robin Stevens that I needed. Hazel and Daisy are back at school, but a school bully has taken advantage of most of the staff being new to get herself appointed as Head Girl, and her friends as prefects. When she dies during a Bonfire Night celebration, Hazel's dorm are the only people who don't believe it's an accident. Great case that fooled me more than once, believable and substantial teen concerns as always, and a really interesting exploration of where the line is to make secrets and gossip harmful. I love these, I have a Christmas one checked out now.

Hello!! I am Finn, an artist and character designer from the PNW!
I am not actually new to tumblr but I stopped using it for a long time. This is my third account or something like that.
Anyways, here is what you will find on my profile!
media relating to Foo Fighters, batman/teen titans/justice league, The Owl House, RHCP, Archer, and my own comic (wip)
my art! I draw furries, humanoids, studies, comic book characters, and I crochet. I also take commissions (which are usually open)
art of my characters! I will probably end up posting a lot of my ocs and reposting art from others.
I am a minor, btw!

I’m not sure what else to say to persuade you to talk to me but first the simplicity of your blog caught my attention and I’m interested in getting to know you more😚
I’m not quite sure what to say! I am a queer teen from a small town in the PNW, this blog is just a little side hobby that gives me something to do in my spare time. You can check out my main blog @mishavacado if you’d like!

please dont be an asshole or a hater on my blog especially racists and anti-lgbtq, please fuck off
[also under 16 tread lightly / mostly dni cuz i talk about wild shit sometimes. plus my fave shows are rated tv-14]
this is my "stuff" blog. just everything i like that i also want to keep aside from my other more focused blogs.
i'm 18. i use she/her pronouns. i am bisexual. i have a masc nb partner of 5 years who is the light of my life. i am mixed white and ojibwe/odawa. i live in the very top of the pnw and love that fresh air. i am autistic and suffer from agoraphobia.
please follow me if u don't meet any of the prior criteria and are into this stuff :
american dad, king of the hill, futurama, bobs burgers, rick and morty, family guy, the simpsons, south park, dan vs., aqua teen hunger force, smiling friends, xavier renegade angel, my name is earl, trailer park boys, it's always sunny in philadelphia, seinfeld
[i do not partake in discourse about any media, my favorite shows can regularly make fun of marginalized groups or concepts and while i understand how harmful it can be and that it will make people uncomfortable - i am also part of some of those marginalized groups and i can still find the humor and/or ignorance within it. i see no reason to police the things that other people watch on tv]
[i take adult animation very seriously, i am deeply attached to american dad (and king of the hill/ family guy but to lesser degrees) and have been since childhood. it is my main special interest. i rewatch episodes literally every day of my life and have for about 4 years. i am in the process of writing my own fan episodes. my favorite characters are haley and roger, but i love the whole smith family.]
my little pony g4, adventure time, amazing world of gumball, craig of the creek, total drama, teen titans and teen titans go, chowder, regular show, victorious, icarly, the garfield show, most pokémon shows
aggretsuko, panty and stocking, mob psycho 100, one punch man, dr. stone. (i was a major anime and manga fan in 2014-2016 - blue exorcist, soul eater, the devil is a part timer, free!, ouran high school host club, food wars, sword art online, fruits basket, tokyo mew mew just to name a few). i have recently gotten into the precure series, with my favorites being tropical rouge, delicious party, and kirakira a la mode.
shopkins, squishmallows, tokidoki, rainbow high dolls , num noms (r.i.p) and other random cute toys and plush
casual to gourmet cooking / gastronomy (big fan of sweets of all kinds)
vampires (i am also a sanguinarian vampire and focus more on that at my blog @sanguinep0wer), gothic literature, gothic fashion genres, gothic horror, kawaii culture, visual kei
the sims 4, world of warcraft, tf2, minecraft, stardew valley, am overwatch 1 veteran, indie horror games. used to be into comic books but only DC (teen titans were my fave)
goth music aka darkwave, post punk, gothic/doom metal. also into numetal, experimental, and spooky sounding electro pop. (aural vampire, the cure, tiamat, to/die/for, cradle of filth, sisters of mercy , insane clown posse, aphex twin etc) some breakcore, and mid to late 2000's rap/pop music, sometimes nightcore'd. (akon, eminem, britney spears, rihanna, etc). i also used to be really really into vocaloid, i am still but much less so. my music taste is kinda all over the place honestly but i like what i like
i am interested in spirituality, specifically law of attraction and manifestation. i also am kinda starting to get back into ritual "witchcraft" worship of Dionysus but im trying to get as close to original/proper sources as possible before officially starting
i am also super into art specifically abstract and surrealism / dreamlike paintings, i use both dark harsh colors and softer pastel colors depending on what i'm trying to convey. i am planning a large project for april or may this year
[if i use improper terminology when talking about my interests pls be kind i am incredibly socially awkward and really don't get the chance to interact with fellow interest community members so i may not be up to date on everything. i am always looking for more friends! thank u for reading this far :) ]
