Robots can have different operating systems with different code and different layouts and different purposes just like human brains. Robots can have automamtic responses either coded into them or learned over time just like humans.

Humans can be stuck in feedback loops with others and in internal loops with themselves just like robots. Humans can have certian traits and thoughts and actions hard wired into them just like robots.

It's all in da brain babey....... we're both computers, just different flavors. we're both man-made at the end of the day

Cosmology blurb

Mulling over ideas for a fanfic series set in the Celestial Realm and realizing I may need to make some educated guesses about how things work. I figure I’d share my observations. Spoilers ahead.

I’m thinking the realms aren’t sandwiched/stratified on top of each other but are arranged more like this...

... if Lilith didn’t have to fall through the human realm to get to the Devildom and if the heavenly gates are accessible from the Devildom (implied when MC is transported there from the Devildom). There are obviously Celestial-Human and Devildom-Human access points in the story, too.

Traditionally, Heaven is upstairs and Hell is downstairs. But, while clearly inspired by these places, the Devildom is not actually Hell and the Celestial Realm is not actually Heaven. I mean, they’re not even named that.

They each have their own seperate skies with different constellations/celestial bodies (Devildom doesn’t have a sun and the other two realms do, and they have Belphie’s/Beel’s stars). Clearly the act of falling from the Celestial Realm to the Devildom is at least a metaphorical thing, but it’s implied to be literal, too.

I don’t think it matters a whole heckuvalot, but it’s interesting to think about.

Angel versus Devil society

Looking at what small details we have, the way these two realms have evolved and currently function is also very interesting.

The Devildom is a monarchy while the Celestial Realm may be an autocracy with a caste system (I think the Devildom probably does, too, just by the nature of feudalism but it may not be officially acknowledged). Previous Demon Kings have lived and died (there’s a tomb and a line of succession) while the Celestial Realm presumably remained ruled by the same entity throughout time. 

That’s pretty interesting, too. Demon Kings are not immortal. Diavolo, however, is likely stronger than Lucifer -- it makes sense that he has to be if he’s actually meant to replace his father.

The Celestial Realm’s caste system has Luke at the lowest rank, some kind of middle or multiple ranks, and Michael at the top rank. Lucifer used to occupy the same rank alongside him.

Christian angelology has multiple very detailed and convoluted hierarchies regarding angels, and for that reason it's probably much more simplified in the game. It already deviates from the typical choir arrangement by having archangels be the top rank when they're normally near the bottom, and giving them the six wings of the seraphim (the top choir).

We're not given much insight as to whether or not angels are born into these ranks or if they ascend them through good works and valor in battle or something. Lucifer being so utterly flawless seems to suggest he was born with it, but Luke complaining about being in the lowest rank suggests that there may be some way for him to change that arrangement and it may simply be a consequence of his (lack of) age and experience. Simeon also mentioning Michael may be of higher rank but he's still "a normal angel" may also allude to that. It could be a variation, where everyone starts at the same level but Lucifer and Michael were specifically given a greater share of angelic power so they were meant to get to the top and that inevitably happened. Or maybe angels gain xp and levels in fights with the demons and they managed to become head and shoulders above the rest by being better gamers.

Also, the legion of angels. 

A legion is a military or semimilitary unit. That is an interesting term to call what may also double as your governing body outside of daddy. The game mentions Michael was in charge of Mammon’s “training” before he was handed over to Lucifer, and well...

Michael is usually depicted and referred to as a protector and the leader of the army of God against the forces of evil, and it seems he reprises that role in this universe. Lucifer once did, too.

A fundamental part of “angel training” may revolve around warfare and training for it. We know the angels and demons have had a long, bloody history, but fighting doesn’t seem to be a part of RAD’s curriculum. The Celestial Realm may have changed it’s course now that they’ve entered a period of relative peace, but I’m not entirely sure.

So far the only in-game lore detail we have related to the actual fighting is the colosseum being destroyed in a battle before the creation of RAD, but it’s proof that the angels have invaded the Devildom at some point. It might have went vice-versa, too, and we simply haven’t observed it because we haven’t been in the Celestial Realm for more than two minutes. 

In spite of all this, it doesn’t seem like angel society is wholly bad. It’s likely rigid and hierarchical, but it is also strangely communal. The brothers have all fostered close bonds with each other within the Celestial Realm -- not the Devildom -- and the angels in the story seem to maintain their positive opinion of Lucifer and his brothers in spite of him sparking a civil war and them now being demons. How the angels treat each other is also noteworthy: Simeon and Luke clearly love each other and have a healthy relationship, by all accounts Michael wholeheartedly supports Luke and gives him positive feedback, and in spite of Luke’s obvious (though changing) prejudice towards all things demon they’re comparatively even-keeled. They generally operate on the assumption that they should help each other and others and that’s a good thing.

They also seem to be onboard with the intent behind exchange program. Luke isn’t sent there to be a spy like Simeon probably was, because he’s pretty terrible at subterfuge. 

A tacit admission that Luke’s perspective is one commonly held by the denizens of the Celestial Realm. Simeon points out that it’s not entirely bad, and I’m inclined to agree.

And also an acknowledgement that the thinking is flawed and they’re willing to make an effort to expand their horizons (considered a good thing). So something has changed, and it’s probably connected to... well... Lucifer and his brothers falling. Or the Celestial Realm just isn’t a monolith and there’s competing viewpoints even with how their society is structured. It’d be interesting to hear what the brothers thought about demons before they became demons themselves, and how they adjusted to that transformation (we get insight on how Lucifer viewed them via Glory Days, but that’s it.)

The Devildom, in contrast, uh... still has problems in this area outside of Diavolo.

This is disregarding all the soul devouring, torture, and casual murder that goes on between demons -- including the brothers. Diavolo is well regarded, but he’s also been unofficially in charge for quite awhile and it doesn’t appear he thinks this is a problem, even though he himself doesn’t treat his subjects poorly (as far as I know, anyway).

Which brings me to this...

There’s a reason he doesn’t really have any close bonds beyond Barbatos and Lucifer, in spite of being universally beloved. And I’m not sure how well he knows Barbatos, honestly. He’s isolated, and it’s not entirely related to his position; Lucifer has been in a high status position in both realms and doesn’t have this problem and never really did in spite of being prickly and anal-retentive af. There’s been quite a bit of commentary in these lessons about how he’s changed and may be reverting back to his angelic tendencies, with Barbatos implying that while it may be good for him and his family, it may not be what’s best for the Devildom... and I think that’s a mindset carried over from his tenure serving under Diavolo’s dad and helping enforce the current state of the Devildom for a specific purpose. MC somehow turning Lucifer and his brothers back into good people (or better people, at least), and Diavolo being envious of their closeness, may interfere with that: the demons around them may start getting ideas, and Diavolo may make more changes.

So not all is well in the Devildom, either, and Diavolo may not be cognizant of how or why. While the Celestial Realm may be a militant society with authoritarian impulses and bigotry, the Devildom sounds like a corrupt monarchy with a dog-eat-dog world underneath that makes trust and love liabilities to survival and keeps the peasants where they are forever. It’s simply another brand of dysfunction.

Hoomans and MC

The Human Realm is probably meant to be some kind of middleground in the dark/bad - light/good spectrum, with its inhabitants having no impulses skewed one way or the other and thus possessing the ability to slide back and forth. 

Demons interact with the human world via being summoned, pacts, or simply travelling there. Manipulating them and preying on them involves magical speechcraft. The angels aren’t allowed to reveal their angel forms to humans, travel there without permission (though it seems the punishment for this wasn’t enough to deter Belphie/Beel/Lilith/Mammon), or magically extend their lifespans -- it seems they prefer to meddle in their affairs indirectly, and revolves around shepherding them towards certain (presumably good) decisions. Ironically enough, Michael himself seems to violate these tenets with Solomon, who is evidently aware of who gave him the demon-controlling ring and was invited to chill with him in the Celestial Realm. It’s do as I say but not as I do, apparently.  

The game seems to imply that it’s possible that MC inherited Lilith’s angelic tendencies/abilities/memories/whatever after the big reveal, which makes me think she may not have turned into a demon before she was reborn. There’s no reason to think she would have retained her angelic abilities as a demon when her brothers haven’t -- she presumably would have lost them before being reborn, if she was turned into a demon first. Diavolo might have just skipped that step altogether for simplicity’s sake.

But she did technically fall, so ???? Maybe it’s just literally falling from the sky.

tl;dr version: they’re all fucked up and the exchange program is a good way for them to try to get their shit together. And I like how it’s set up.

Laat doesn't tend to get jealous at all. Jealousy, as an emotion, conveys a fear of loss, and of identifying with having something to lose. Laat doesn't really identify with the concept of ownership, in the sense that they are so subconsciously afraid of losing everything, so certain of it as an inevitability, that they view everything and everyone in their life as temporary things that will be taken from them eventually, and completely beyond their control. Laataazin, historically, hasn't really had the option to really "own" anything or exert power over any aspect of their life. Their first memories are waking up in a cart bound for execution, with a body whose story they don't know, for crimes they don't remember, and it gave them the sense of continuing a life that isn't actually theirs. There's very much a disassociation in Laat between themselves and the rest of the world. Studying with the Greybeards only widens this mental gap that Laat has, the sense of their actual self as completely separate from any physical interaction and completely powerless against the whims of fate, others, and time.

Even their wife they didn't "get" of their own choice, they simply woke up one day and made the best of it. A running theme for Laat. They don't live with Moira, or indeed, see her for long periods of time, as they both have very busy and separate lives.

Ik I talk about Laat's relationship with Miraak literally all the time but in this case it is actually supremely relevant, as Laat does get the chance to develop a sense of protectiveness, possessiveness, and an actual fear of loss, over him. Laat does quite often feel protective instead of jealous or possessive, over dragons, for example, but it rarely has the chance to actually develop into a strong connection since Laat tends to associate wholly with people capable of defending themselves very ably, who do not need Laat's protectiveness, or with people that they simply help and then move on.

Miraak, however, who in Laat's "canon" where they both make it out of Apocrypha, takes a few years of recovery from having a tentacle to the back. Whenever I answer these questions, I always answer in this canon, where Laat saves Miraak from Apocrypha and he lives for a few years at the Chantry of Auri-El with Gelebor, Aranea, and Venfokest, and, intermittently, Laat. Miraak is never able to walk unassisted for longer than a couple of paces again, and uses mobility aids like a wheelchair or crutches depending on his pain, and requires skilled care. He, of course, flourishes as the already extremely capable mage and Dragonborn he is, but while he recovers, Laat is given the chance to actually protect someone (temporarily) weaker than themselves who doesn't have their own life in which Laat only awkwardly fits into, that they nonetheless view completely as a peer.

Miraak is incredibly accessible for Laat, and they truly develop a sense of possessive protectiveness over him. Whilst Laat only initially saved him because they had the power to avoid his death, the novel experience of having someone consistent in their life who is reliant on them yet also extremely powerful and capable in his own right, begins to make them feel quite comfortable that they won't lose him, enough that they actually start becoming jealous and protective. It reaches a point, actually, where Laat becomes actively reluctant to let him go into the outside world, and it's a bit of a battle of wills that ends with Miraak getting quite close to kicking Laat's ass in a fight and then them agreeing to going together anyway.

Even then though, they aren't sexually jealous of Miraak - Laat is much more likely to suggest sharing.

Laat doesn't actively seek connections of any kind. They don't, as a whole, socialise with anyone else beyond the requirements of their quests, and as such, largely don't have friends or personal relationships with people. They don't really consider the people they meet who become friendly with them after they help them as friends, because frankly, Laat just doesn't really consider them at all. They help them because they have the power to, and because they may as well make a positive difference in the world whilst they're out there, as a form of penance for some of the things they have done they regret. Laat only ends up in two romantic relationships in any given canon, one with Moira, one with Miraak, and both of those are special cases that rather fall into their lap. Seperate from their disconnection from people, I wouldn't say they were very given to romantic feelings at all.

Hi still Losing My Mind over spn. Specifically transwoman sam. More specifically, transfemme nb sam.

I have a playlist I made and I'm like. Holy Shit.

So I think Sam is initially like Oh I'm A Woman so that means that she Has To Be 100% woman. Anything else would mean that's she's not genuine, right? Thinking of herself as the Exception To The Rule that is nb/other queer identities. If she's not Absolutely and One Hundred Percent a woman then she's clearly like. Messed up even more than she thought. Right? Right??

Obviously not from our view, but like. Sam SERIOUSLY second-guessing herself. Thinking she has to perform feminity as is typical in order to be considered a Real Trans Person(tm). But she knows she CANT perform typical feminity--her height and her broad shoulders and everything ELSE she hates about herself--so at first, she thinks she is faking it somehow. It takes a long time before she's comfortable basically changing nothing about herself except some light makeup, long skirts on occasion, growing out her hair, she/her pronouns in-house, etc. Eventually, she's fine with that. It's enough, and shes happier now.

Until Dean realizes he's trans, too.

Dean is...complicated. being wholly seperated from your own personhood leaves him with this sickening disparity between his performed masculinity and his Actual Gender (masc obviously, but performed and Felt are very different). Having Gender Talks around and eventually WITH dean makes them all come to some revelations. (Cas is more or less Unfazed, but very supportive. He has never lived by the binary and doesn't really Get their need to confirm to it, it really doesn't matter That much but if they care, he cares)

Sam is forced to confront some issues about herself through this. Dean is very masc, but with a lot of femme-coded things he enjoys a lot! Nail polish and cooking for the family, the color pink, taylor swift etc etc. Sam...isn't sure how to think. Because once dean starts actually finding gender euphoria and ENJOYING IT, sam starts to realize she could be...happier. Like that. Not holding herself hostage in here own brain for not being The Perfect Woman 100% Of The Time.

So she starts, instead of feeling guilt and self-hate for not conforming to binary womanhood, allowing herself to enjoy the things she Actually Enjoys. And if that looks like an oversized carhartt jacket? Well, who cares!

I want to point out that very little happens externally, here. Sam has already Acted like this for a while, but has never let herself Enjoy things that make her gender euphoric. There's a MONUMENTAL difference in doing something because you feel like you have no other choice, and CHOOSING to do something that you actively enjoy/allowing yourself to enjoy it without self-guilt.

Dean's Trans Revelation really brings her feelings to the forefront and forces her to confront them. Also I think she knows perfectly well that other queer identities exist--the difference is that she never thought that she would "count". That her own gender experiences proved that she was somehow still Wrong, not that she could very simply be nb/gnc AND a woman. (yes I know those aren't interchangeable identities. I just think that those are two things sam has to acknowledge in herself, which is relevant.)

Anyway I love sam and she's amazing. She's also a lesbian and gets married to eileen. She drops the Winchester name. After long talks and introspection, she can finally accept herself and is SO HAPPY!!!!

So i have seen smidgens of this on tumblr but just havent had time to do anything about it

and jesus christ Callie Jade is so horrifyingly creepy, and you know the things she’s narrating the characters can also hear which is also hilarious, it just reminds me of that comic about how “yeah sure there’s a giant ominous red floating eyeball in your kitchen, constantly staring, constantly judging, but can you be sure that’s a bad thing?”

and then someone tries to talk to it, but it doesn’t answer and the person goes “fine be an asshole i dont give a fuck”

thats exactly the dynamic happening with Callie Jade right now

This line from Roxy makes sense, as a person wholly ensconced in the idea of their own self and always being in control of themselves and their own mind and faculties they would hate anything at all that causes that iron mental grip to slip

That’s probably why Dirk avoided sleep even when his dreamself was awake, even sleeping and dreaming was considered a form of himself losing control over himself that he couldn’t integrate the idea himself and his dreamself were the same person rather than two identical people and also I remember that the Jujupop didn’t affect him either

Later on Dirk in the narrative will say something about his own trauma, but not really go into what it is, but if I had to hazard a guess (and really it’s not much of a guess at this point)

Dirk probably has memories of a version of himself being under the mental influence of another, Lil Cal, LE, Doc Scratch etc what have you, So Narrative Dirk may actually be a version of Dirk who’s not quite yet poisoned into being a version of those 3, but his words also hinted that just because he’s aware of a certain way that he’s acting doesn’t make him more likely to stop it

Like he’s equating that you can be aware of the influence something else is having on you and in the exact ways it is influencing you without being able to stop, the exact thing he is traumatized and afraid of being most likely

So his one driving fear, is he does not want to lose control of his own soul, his own being, his own way of life and existing, to something else, something other. Even though he most likely is fully aware of the things and mannerisms of the other that have slipped into himself? Like he’s probably fully aware of the similarities between himself and those mentioned above, but maybe the thing that he’s hinging on is that instead of those guys poisoning him into being like them, instead perhaps he can convince himself that it’s his own self influencing others to act like himself instead. His influence reaching out and expanding instead of shrinking as he fears it

Anyway, Dave and Kanaya have a cute moment, I really like that

We get a nice shot of them in shadows against a backdrop of stars and Kanaya starts talking about a story Rose would once tell so that’s story is already gonna be dripping in metaphorical potential

So obviously Dirk and Rose

Dirk has Rose with him, discovers an actual genuine connection with her, likely because he already viewed her as an equal, despite his manipulations of her, and chapter 4 spoilers but he genuinely wants to play a game with her when there really isn’t any reason for it, so he is actually curious to see who comes out on top of it, Him or Her, so Dirk is probably in some way desperate to have an actual equal partner in some way instead of drowning in himself all the time, not surprising. But Rose, obviously, will leave and reject him, likely when the manipulation comes around and is revealed/Kanaya and all them reach her/that part of the story

But then the story tinges onto a romantic nature and is framing Dirk trying to get her back as a romantic quest to save his partner/friend something something love and friendship, “no distance can separate them” yeah that doesn’t sound like obsession with the first person you’ve ever truly seen as an equal/a real person, 

yeah “A Garden calling to Mind an engagement once declared there” definitely sounds like the garden of eden/adam and eve paradise fantasy that Dirk has been trying  for some reason, to setup on the new planet

Really begs the question for why Dirk cares at all to do all of this? Except we now the answer is already its not the thing itself he cares about, its the value hes putting into the story as something that generates interest in the audience

He doesn’t care about actually making a society or being gods or whatever, he just knows thats what the audience wants to see and cares about so therefore he does it

and the reason he does all of THAT is because is ties into his trauma of his sense of self eroding away becoming a person he’s unfamiliar with

I wonder how he’s going to handle how much he’s going to change in order to fit the role of the story he’s writing when all is said and done

the Dirk at the end of this is going to be very different than the Dirk that started in Homestuck, despite all of his fears and intentions, and that he could not say all of it wasnt his own doing because of the iron control he made sure to have from the very beginning, I honestly think that will be kind of a shock for him if a meeting like that ever one day happened

Specifically for the fact that he seems to be aware of the romantic in nature tropes hes writing himself and Rose into and for now still seems to be avoiding them, not having gone that far, but, well

Maybe this is where we’ll start to see where Doc Scratch’s odd tendencies starting coming from

You know he was always really weird with Rose and Vriska (Maybe because he sees Light players all as extensions of Rose herself?)

Anyway yeah this is def the story metaphor I think we’re going to see in this, but Kanaya doesn’t fully get it, she thinks the story refers to herself and Rose

DAVE: that seems kind of wack for a kids story

Basically the idea that your experiences of a person and your memories of them shape who they become as well, the boundary between you and I is controlled by both of us, so each has an effect of the personality Heart of the other through our own decisions and Mind

like the way people tend to mimic those they like and want to be close to, or the way they actively try to distance themselves and what they are like from those they hate

But that at all seems to be more about Mind in general than referring to anything specifically Terezi

though it is exactly that understanding of Mind versus Heart and how one affects the other that could make Dirk realize that in the question of the self he’s only had half the picture the whole time, he’s only had the understanding of Heart and has thus far not been able to understand how Mind plays a role in the sustaining of the self, how what other people do to help you to be you, which is his entire philosophical conundrum

Maybe its Jade Callie that’s influencing them this way not Gamzee, to scribble strange things on the walls and not come out, but it’s the same fear of the other regardless manifesting and changing the self.

It is a very oddly non social thing for Our Calliope to do, when the point of different between the two Callie’s was how social Calliope was versus how antisocial Jade Callie is. Worries me ): but at least they’re here I guess

The juicy tantalizing forbidden red fruit that when you bit into it you suddenly understand and know things you did not before and you’re eyes are opened, I wonder if that’s enough to just make Apples a solid Symbol of Light in Homestuck’s context? Most of it’s association with knowledge is external to Homestuck, just referenced symbolically, it’s not actually used in any cirumstances pertaining to knowledge, but more as the metaphor of it being the gate to leave the garden of eden, more like a teleporter, Rapture and Revelation in general rather than just Knowledge itself

This movie was just kind of bah, had some especially dumb moments but some stuff I can agree with so it’s perfectly…meh, for this channel.

writing has always been so nurturing for me. a safe haven, a place to just dump all these thoughts that run around in circles, run full-speed back-and-forth to then bounce off the walls and wound themselves (full blown adhd). the conflicting beliefs... i can’t help it. here, i strip the ego, face the vulnerability, and thankfully (though only sometimes) gain some clarity. what is it to truly organise thoughts? it is to pen them. sweat sits phat on my now-eccentric nose as i concentrate. and also my palms, to reveal the inner-most angels and demons that lay inside of me. the alter-selves, the multi-faceted natures of all of us; who am i? not afraid of this as i live it everyday, though nothing and all at once.

sometimes i disassociate and think nothing at all. i seperate. perhaps the higher self within me also needs to recharge from my human narrative sometimes. 

i woke up this morning okay. i wake up dreadful most days; an impending doom of anxieties. what will the day entail? aside from the routine that i ironically simultaneously find mundane though need for survival, coping, self-care... the intricate weaving of purpose, passion, play and pay into my daily... what now?

the hardest parts of the days are people. thankful that my circle is one of two and blood, exclusively mine. though solitude is kind to me. my smile is not; i look back at this creation that has matured into a young woman. how am i a ray of sunshine to people? what bubbliness? perhaps the expression of my personality is kinder than the wiltered spirit that is tethered to it. who am i? not afraid of this as i live it everyday, though nothing and all at once. 

i have always loved showers. they always reveal to me how i truly feel. i don’t really always comprehend how i feel, even though it consumes me so wholly. so, without hesitation, i will put on music that is uplifting in all facets, whether it be lyrically, to the beat, etc. my fun me!
